- 0:00Speaker 1: We're live at cafe or in Manchester, or we do
- 0:02Speaker 1: a couple of shows here with the Hall of famhead
- 0:05Speaker 1: coach versus son in law.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Here, I have to.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Have a warm welcome with Todd and the gang here
- 0:11Speaker 1: and folks enjoying their dinner, the entire Polo family, it
- 0:14Speaker 1: seems like over here, and they've adopted my wife for
- 0:17Speaker 1: the night here. So there you go taking care of
- 0:19Speaker 1: them guys. Yeah, yeah, I Paul and Michael do all
- 0:22Speaker 1: the time.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Uh gino.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Is it any coincidence at pages? Assists numbers have gone
- 0:29Speaker 1: through the roof, Like the last four or five games.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I mean she could have had a double double. At
- 0:34Speaker 1: Villanova she had nine, then she sat out a game
- 0:36Speaker 1: or two, and then she comes back and I think
- 0:38Speaker 1: I saw seven and nine. She had four on the Saturday.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Is that just coincidence or you know with everybody else
- 0:44Speaker 1: making shots or.
- 0:45Speaker 4: Well yeah, I mean can't get an assist if the
- 0:47Speaker 4: other person doesn't score. So the last two games before Creighton,
- 0:54Speaker 4: you know we scored ninety six and one hundred.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Well that helps.
- 0:57Speaker 4: So the people she was passing the ball to may
- 0:59Speaker 4: chap that's you know, that's easy. Plus the more she
- 1:05Speaker 4: tries to score the more since she gets people don't
- 1:10Speaker 4: I mean, doesn't sound like it should be possible, But
- 1:13Speaker 4: that's what happens, you know, when she's I thought the.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Whole first half, I thought she was like really.
- 1:17Speaker 4: Bad, like she stood around a lot, you know, And
- 1:22Speaker 4: and that's why I think our offense kind of got
- 1:24Speaker 4: staggered a little bit. You know when Pages, when Page
- 1:28Speaker 4: is cutting, she's moving, she's you know, searching for the
- 1:31Speaker 4: ball all the time. The defense is in a real
- 1:34Speaker 4: tough spot because now somebody's got to leave their man
- 1:38Speaker 4: to help her, and the next thing, you know, there's
- 1:39Speaker 4: a guy open. So h in the second half, that's
- 1:42Speaker 4: exactly what happened, you know. But yeah, that's that's that's uh,
- 1:49Speaker 4: that's Page's game.
- 1:50Speaker 1: I think, Okay, if she's not moving as much, does
- 1:53Speaker 1: that does that have an effect on the movement of
- 1:55Speaker 1: the other players.
- 1:56Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, everybody's you know, everybody kind of takes their
- 1:59Speaker 4: cue from Page.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Know.
- 2:02Speaker 4: I want to say, they're like, you know, what are
- 2:06Speaker 4: those animals that just follow each other off the cliff
- 2:08Speaker 4: or whatever they're called. You know, but our guys, like
- 2:11Speaker 4: you know, Page kind of sets the tone a lot
- 2:13Speaker 4: of times and when she's moving, we're moving. And when
- 2:17Speaker 4: you know, when she's attacking, we're attacking.
- 2:19Speaker 3: And when.
- 2:23Speaker 4: She's involved defensively and forcing turnovers, everybody's doing it. So
- 2:29Speaker 4: it's been, uh, it's been great to see the last
- 2:31Speaker 4: three or four games. You know, I don't know, you know,
- 2:36Speaker 4: what uh Creighton did, which I think some other teams are,
- 2:40Speaker 4: but what Creighton did was they just shot the ball
- 2:43Speaker 4: and ran back on defense.
- 2:44Speaker 3: So I don't know.
- 2:45Speaker 4: They may have gotten one offensive rebound, but very rarely
- 2:48Speaker 4: did they go to the offensive boards.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Had six six.
- 2:52Speaker 4: I mean, they missed a lot of shots to only
- 2:53Speaker 4: get six, you know, offensive rebounds. But that's how you
- 2:59Speaker 4: take away people's transition game. And that's kind of the
- 3:04Speaker 4: the biggest strength of our team is the biggest weakness
- 3:08Speaker 4: of every team is their transition defense. And the best
- 3:11Speaker 4: part of our game is our transition offense. So by
- 3:15Speaker 4: them not you know, not offensive rebounding as much, they
- 3:19Speaker 4: were able to get back on d So now they make.
- 3:22Speaker 3: It, walk the ball up the floor and slock.
- 3:25Speaker 4: You know, they're playing like Philadelphia Flyers, Frost Street Bullies hockey.
- 3:31Speaker 4: Just dump it into the corner and four guys run
- 3:34Speaker 4: in there. To go to the hospital and two other
- 3:36Speaker 4: guys come out with.
- 3:37Speaker 1: The buck and they weren't overly aggressive defensively. I mean,
- 3:40Speaker 1: your team that had thirteen steals, they had won the
- 3:42Speaker 1: whole game, and that was not until the fourth quarter.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Sarah obviously had five.
- 3:46Speaker 1: But KK, she's just such a difference maker when she's
- 3:50Speaker 1: out there, and she had a tremendous loose ball scrambled
- 3:53Speaker 1: with Lauren Jeans and then end up as Ann one.
- 3:55Speaker 1: She's just she has really accepted that role that she's
- 3:58Speaker 1: now in this year really really well.
- 4:01Speaker 4: Well, yeah, I don't think she had any choice. I
- 4:04Speaker 4: think that's when you're built like that and you have
- 4:07Speaker 4: that skill set, you really have no other choice.
- 4:10Speaker 3: You have to play like that.
- 4:12Speaker 4: You have to be disruptive, you have to you know,
- 4:15Speaker 4: make the game quicker and play at a pace that
- 4:19Speaker 4: suits who you are and what your skill level is.
- 4:22Speaker 4: So when Kk's being that, she's actually you know, playing
- 4:26Speaker 4: to her strengths and and is also helping us play
- 4:30Speaker 4: to our strengths. So you know, there's not a lot
- 4:35Speaker 4: of guards like her, certainly not like on our team
- 4:38Speaker 4: like her, So she provides a unique perspective for us,
- 4:43Speaker 4: and I just think that's you know, it's great for
- 4:46Speaker 4: her and it's great for.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Us as a whole.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Your sophomore class, what have you thought of their progression
- 4:52Speaker 1: in year two?
- 4:53Speaker 3: I think up and down, you know, I think the.
- 4:57Speaker 4: Part you know, for us to win I gave you
- 5:02Speaker 4: for instance, like last night, how many minutes did ash play?
- 5:06Speaker 2: Ash play twenty four?
- 5:09Speaker 3: Twenty four minutes and she scored two points.
- 5:11Speaker 2: One for three, she had six rebounds.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Okay, and easy played thirty minutes thirty four. Okay, So
- 5:18Speaker 3: thirty four.
- 5:19Speaker 4: And twenty what twenty four? I don't know, but I
- 5:24Speaker 4: think that sounds like fifty eight. That's I checked, and
- 5:28Speaker 4: we got six points out of fifty eight minutes.
- 5:30Speaker 3: And those two.
- 5:31Speaker 4: Guys, so they have to be more productive, meaning they
- 5:36Speaker 4: can't pass up some of the opportunities that they get,
- 5:39Speaker 4: you know, so they've got to be on the offensive end.
- 5:42Speaker 4: They've got to be attacking. They've got to you know,
- 5:44Speaker 4: go in there an offensive rebound, force a turnover move
- 5:48Speaker 4: without the ball, so you get more shots.
- 5:50Speaker 3: And that's when we're at our best.
- 5:52Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, because if you take pages stuff and
- 5:55Speaker 4: then Sarah's stuff, and then you add one or two more,
- 5:59Speaker 4: well it makes this really really hard to play against.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm gonna throw Kaitlyn in there too.
- 6:02Speaker 1: I'm gonna guess that maybe six three pointer attempts in
- 6:05Speaker 1: the game for hers a bit too much.
- 6:08Speaker 4: She was kind of yeah, she was kind of feeling it.
- 6:11Speaker 4: She was kind of feeling it because the game before
- 6:13Speaker 4: she made a bunch. What's a bunch what you make too? Yeah,
- 6:17Speaker 4: so she made a lot the game before. But you know,
- 6:21Speaker 4: that's what teams are gonna start doing now. They're gonna say,
- 6:24Speaker 4: all right, well, when Caitlyn's in the game, we're not
- 6:26Speaker 4: gonna guard her on the three point line. And when
- 6:28Speaker 4: KK is in the game, we're not gonna guard her
- 6:29Speaker 4: either on the three point line.
- 6:31Speaker 3: So the response to that is they.
- 6:33Speaker 4: Have to be confident enough to knock those in. You know,
- 6:38Speaker 4: you can't say, hey, listen, don't shoot them. Then you're
- 6:40Speaker 4: playing five on four. So you know, you say, well, wow,
- 6:44Speaker 4: Caitlyn did a great job of getting open. Yeah, anytime
- 6:47Speaker 4: a player's wide open, there's a good reason for that.
- 6:50Speaker 4: The other team wants you to be What can I
- 6:55Speaker 4: tell you what.
- 6:55Speaker 2: About Caitlyn's defense this year? What do you like about it?
- 6:58Speaker 4: I think she plays hard all the time. You know,
- 7:00Speaker 4: I think we've got a great combination between her and
- 7:03Speaker 4: KK and what we can do. You know, defensively, they're
- 7:07Speaker 4: different offensively. They're different defensively, and I and I think
- 7:11Speaker 4: when we have the both of them out there together,
- 7:13Speaker 4: it's a real problem for the other team. But as
- 7:17Speaker 4: I said, they both have to be, you know, in
- 7:21Speaker 4: that ten to twelve point range, and that makes that
- 7:25Speaker 4: you know, that whole combination really really tough when you've
- 7:28Speaker 4: got those two defensively and then you have to worry
- 7:30Speaker 4: about those two offensively.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, we'll take a quick break, we'll come back,
- 7:34Speaker 1: and I don't have to talk about injuries much, but
- 7:37Speaker 1: we'll bring up a couple of names though.
- 7:38Speaker 2: I mean, it was great to see Caroline.
- 7:40Speaker 3: My back urts a little bit if you want to
- 7:41Speaker 3: talk about that.
- 7:42Speaker 2: My left hurts to talk about that. We've been doing
- 7:45Speaker 2: that for two years.
- 7:46Speaker 4: It's you kind of I've got a lot of people
- 7:48Speaker 4: in this room that look like they have some makes
- 7:50Speaker 4: and pains.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Well, well we'll bring a micro run and then discuss
- 7:53Speaker 1: takes and pains next.
- 7:54Speaker 2: You kind of women's basketball coaches joe On lear Field
