- 0:00Hello, leap Frogs. I come to you today with sad tidings and some
- 0:05happy tidings that should average out to just tidings. So here are some tidings.
- 0:10I've never said that word so many times before. The bad news is
- 0:14due to some audio technical difficulties, we've lost an entire episode of Gate Sleepers,
- 0:20and due to the nature of this podcast taking a long time to research,
- 0:25to write, to prep, to organize, to record to edit,
- 0:30it's just not possible to put something else together in the timeframe at the level
- 0:36we're at within the podcasting industry. So yeah, I'll say now, it
- 0:41was a Star Wars prequels episode. It featured some of my favorite people,
- 0:47and because of that, it was a lot of fun. And I feel
- 0:50confident saying that to you, even though you're not going to listen to it.
- 0:54It was a good time. Lots of good jokes were made. Just
- 0:57assume all of the prequel references were made and good riffs were made about them.
- 1:02I'm sure sometime next year we'll revisit the Star Wars prequels with different games
- 1:07to play so that it can feel like an organic space again. But if
- 1:11we just went right back to trying to rerecord it. I don't think we'd
- 1:15capture the magic, and I think you'd agree. But the good news is
- 1:19the feed won't be empty this week. We've decided to drop our latest Patreon
- 1:23bonus episode for free here on the main feed, our fandom flashback for February
- 1:30of twenty twenty four. And the reason I'm excited about that is we tried
- 1:34a new format for our fandom flashback for this episode, and I was really
- 1:38pleased with how it turned out. Our bonus episode tends to be a look
- 1:44back at the releases from the previous month, so it's a bit more like
- 1:47a topical version of Gateleapers, but this time I decided to make games being
- 1:52inspired by the headlines and the big news stories and releases, so I think
- 1:57it just makes a more cohesive listen. And yeah, if the job's done
- 2:01correctly, you should feel like myself. Audra and Jason take you back through
- 2:07February of twenty twenty four, all the way back to that time you know
- 2:10that was three weeks ago, and relived twenty nine days worth of content via
- 2:15the classic gate Leapers medium of games and challenges and laughs and fun. And
- 2:21the reason I'm extra excited is we recorded this on leap Day, February twenty
- 2:25ninth, the day for Gate leapers, because that means I only have to
- 2:29think about it once every four years. Thank you so much for your support
- 2:32during this not really difficult time. Much more difficult things are happening in the
- 2:38world. But I appreciate everyone who reached out and was like, I'm sorry
- 2:42you lost an episode. I know that must be stressful. It was for
- 2:46a couple of minutes, but then I spun it into a positive thing and
- 2:49here we are. And if this is your first time listening to one of
- 2:52our fandom flashback episodes in total, and you have a good time with it,
- 2:57we drop one of these on around the first of every month and it
- 3:00comes with supporting us on Patreon for just a few dollars a month and you
- 3:05get this bonus episode as well as access to the video recordings from our regular
- 3:09episodes you know when they turn out. So that's Patreon dot com forward slash
- 3:15gateleepers, if you'd like to support us. Thank you so much to a
- 3:19couple of people who've recently joined at that first tier. It means a whole
- 3:23lot to see people support us, and hopefully this kind of content is the
- 3:28thing you enjoy in return, and because I won't be able to do it.
- 3:31At the end of this episode, thank you to Derek Logan of This
- 3:35Parish for supporting us at the highest tier, the games Master tier at patreon
- 3:40dot com. Forward slash Gatesleepers. It's because of your support that we can
- 3:45make extra content like this, and we have backups when the random chance of
- 3:50technical glitches gets in the way of things. I don't think I'll have anything
- 3:54to say on the other side, so please just sit back and enjoy this
- 3:58fandom flashback for February of twenty twenty four. It's Leap Day. Leap February
- 4:08twenty ninth, the perfect day for this Podcastleepday. Oh yeah, is this
- 4:13our It's this our national holiday. I think it is because that's great because
- 4:16we only have to celebrate it once every years. Yeah, we get four
- 4:19years to prepare for the festivities. Yes, we take turns sleeping on each
- 4:25other. Yeah, that that happens. The leap day leaps we call them,
- 4:29yep, where we leap on each other for the number of years we've
- 4:31were alive or the number of years that gate Leaper has been brought in.
- 4:34Oh, okay, we won't die that way. Yeah. Yeah, I
- 4:39don't know if I can jump twenty seven times, let alone on one of
- 4:42you. But yeah, after we do the leap day leaps, we post
- 4:47a lot on social media. Apparently I did that today. I was like,
- 4:49I woke up going I hate posting on social media. But this day
- 4:54doesn't exist at any other point in time apart from once every four years.
- 4:58I can be a different version me for one day. Yeah, easy,
- 5:01one day every four years? What every four years? Every four years?
- 5:05I'll commit to that. This sounds like a stupid question. I'm gonna ask
- 5:09it out loud because that's content. Babe. Does everyone everyone in the world
- 5:15quote unquote celebrates leap Day? Right? Because everyone follows this crazy calendar I
- 5:20have? Yeah, I think so, Because so how we leap day science
- 5:26time? Oh? Yes, technically in order to move around the sun.
- 5:33Technically it's three hundred and sixty five days and six hours. Oh. I
- 5:41thought it was Greg Gregory being a little weirdo. Maybe he was a little
- 5:46weirdo, but there. I don't know if the science came prior to Gregory
- 5:49being a little weirdo or not. Freaking yeah. The Gregorian calendar. Yeah,
- 5:58is that it was her? Pope? Oh Len Pope Gregory sounds right,
- 6:03doesn't it. Yeah. I think I don't even know anything about him
- 6:08other than the calendar. But I think that I'm pretty safe. Historically speaking,
- 6:12most people can be referred to as like weird little guy. Yeah,
- 6:18yeah, there are a bunch of weird You're a weird little guy. If
- 6:21you have a if you have a me mobile, you know, yeah,
- 6:25we don't have a gate Leapers mobile yet. No, then we'd be weird
- 6:28little guys. Yeah, we would be speaking a weird little guys actually,
- 6:31Jason, Oh yeah, the frogs. We got to talk about the frogs
- 6:33that you've been I love them so much. Thank you, as Drew refers
- 6:40to them, my my little sons. I love that a lot. It's
- 6:44fantastic. There are a good bunch of sons. Thank you, thank you.
- 6:46Yeah, it's been a lot of fun drawing them. I I like
- 6:49their little subtle facial expressions. I'm really embarrassed by how much a literally flipping
- 6:56a frown upside down, like how much joy that gave me? It just
- 7:00looks like a bad It gave me so much joy. Like they look like
- 7:09he just looks it adds words are so hard that that's how much he impacted
- 7:15me. I'm leaving that in okay, but it swapped him not to looking
- 7:23joyous but looking genuinely touched, which is such a more complex emotion for this
- 7:29cartoon frog. Yeah, to keep feeling who is meant to represent fans of
- 7:34this game, showy or just the mascots of each fandom that we cover.
- 7:40That's your choice, depending on if you want to be known as a sad
- 7:43little frog on honestly honor. That's kind of what I'm hoping for. Like,
- 7:50like, we're not when it comes to this stuff. We're we're DIY,
- 7:54we're not professionals. We're doing what we can. Jason and I do
- 7:58put effort into things, though, So we have a brainstorming session and then
- 8:01we had then we had an ideas like creative session, and we basically came
- 8:05up with like, Yeah, we've got to go down the frog groupe because
- 8:07leap frogs, that's that's the nickname We've got gate Leapers, that's that'll be
- 8:11a cute thing on merch. And then we we really got into the minutia
- 8:15of like Okay, but what's this guy like? He is he someone who's
- 8:18super happy? Is he sad? Is he fulfilled? What's his home life
- 8:22like? Does he have a family? We went, oh, too sad?
- 8:24To he needs to be a little bit more bereaved, like like he's
- 8:31kind of a little lonely but has friends. Yeah, he's but hopeful.
- 8:37We went, oh, is it a mister toad mister frog kind of vibe?
- 8:41How do I translate that without being, you know, infringing on copyright?
- 8:43Yeah, we we went into it. It's I've never had people talk
- 8:48about my art so much. I'm really glad it's bringing such an illsted response
- 8:52here. But it really does feel like our collective son when you when you
- 8:56put it in those words. And soon our son will be available on a
- 9:01T shirt, maybe a beanie if we're looking. Yeah, but certainly all
- 9:07across, all across an upcoming website that we'll have by the end of the
- 9:11Yeah. For gate Leapers, please no one take gate leapers dot com.
- 9:15Don't you dare. It's Q three Q three unless you're buying it to give
- 9:20it to us, please don't do it. That's also fine. Yeah,
- 9:24but he'll be be all over that website and also some new podcast dot work
- 9:30coming up as well. So yeah, we're doing a whole rebrand. We're
- 9:33really leaning into this Gate Leepers thing. What did I what did I file?
- 9:37Name that? Gabe Leeper sent me some initial PNGs. It was like
- 9:43Gabe liber Gabe Leber feels like he feels like the HR guy at an accountancy.
- 9:54Honestly, as soon as we can start paying staff if your name is
- 9:56Gabe Liber, because yeah, that's this is where you belong. Yes,
- 10:03you'll get your own little frog as well. What are you into? Let
- 10:07us know if your names gave liba get in touch. Oh wait, this
- 10:11one isn't on the public feed. This one is out to the ten people
- 10:13who we know are listening. Hello and welcome to Gatesleaper's fandom flashback. Where
- 10:39Matt that's me, Audra that's me, and Jason I think that's me.
- 10:43Look back at the last month through the lens of pop culture stories, big
- 10:48media releases, and what we've been consuming, like thirsty media elephants, slurping
- 10:54up all that content through our lovely big face noses. Yes, but of
- 10:58course, but of course there's a classic Gates Sleepers twist. The twist is
- 11:07this is a game. It's just like pal World in that we're highly derivative
- 11:11but also very cute guns and we're holding guns. Yes, if you're listening
- 11:18to this, you are a patron, So thank you so much for supporting
- 11:22us here on Patreon. This is your little bonus for the month of February,
- 11:24the shortest of the months, but this time a little bit a little
- 11:28less sure. Sorry, this isn't available to you on Leap Day. It
- 11:33will be the day after. Oh you'll be coming down from your Leap Day
- 11:37revelries and you'll require a bit of a bit of a bit of comfort,
- 11:41a little bit of joy exactly. Yeah, you'll have been lept on for
- 11:46however long your podcast has been running out. I know we've got a couple
- 11:50of patrons who that will be slightly longer than us, So yeah, prepared
- 11:54to get left on. I'm so sorry. Okay, I've read enough for
- 11:56this opening copy. Let's do our fandom flashback for February of twenty twenty four.
- 12:01Round one is our dance across the biggest media releases and pop culture stories
- 12:05from the last month, and it's called so Quotable. I have here a
- 12:09board of six quotes that I'm gesturing to, but they're not actually real.
- 12:13Uh, and Audro and Jason just have to buzz in and say what they
- 12:18think I am referencing. So before we carry on, Captains, og captains,
- 12:24what is your buzzer this month? What word would you like to sum
- 12:28up your February. I'm gonna say legends. Legends. Yeah, so right
- 12:35towards the end there, right towards the end, Pokemon Day happens, and
- 12:39there are some big announcements for Pokemon. I'm starting to get back into it
- 12:43as a hyperfixation, and a new Legends game got announced and I'm very excited.
- 12:48Hell, yes, nice, so Legends it is? Who will Legends
- 12:52be facing? This is cheesy, but it is also the month of Valentine's
- 12:56Day, of course, And I love my friends. I love our patron
- 13:01love love love. And also that makes our team names alliteration, all the
- 13:07ls loves Legends. Yeah, loving Legends. I love it and I legend
- 13:13it. Okay, your first quote of the month is from a TV series,
- 13:20and here's the quote. You will always be my friend Legends. Yes,
- 13:28Jason, is it Avatar? That's your TV show Avatar? Oh,
- 13:33I was like, I watched this so recently. It was like a quote
- 13:37from the first episode. Yes, it's his mentor before he's you know,
- 13:43murdered and genocide it. Yeah. Yeah, he says to Anger, you
- 13:46will always be my friend, which would be a touching moment if the acting
- 13:50from that gentleman was kind of hammy. But the kids are really trying.
- 13:56Well, yeah, okay, all try and I I'll confess we've only watched
- 13:58the first episode. But Jason, you've watched more of it, right,
- 14:00more of it? Yeah, I'm towards last two episodes of this adaptation.
- 14:05All of us here have watched the first season at least of the cartoon.
- 14:07Yes, so we're well armed with what this is adapting. Mm hmmm.
- 14:13Not only the actor could have acted that better. I also felt like maybe
- 14:18I would have cared about this old man a little bit better if I knew
- 14:22who he was, or if he didn't come across as just an older person
- 14:26in Ang's life. You know, he's like, yeah, I'm your friend.
- 14:28Aha, we made a laugh, didn't we. It's like, Okay,
- 14:33I guess this guy died uncle Grandpa, I guess. Yeah. I
- 14:37thought that was quite a dark scene. It was quite a dark I get
- 14:41them opening on the flashback from later in season one to do the chronological or
- 14:45yeah, to do chronological, but I thought that was I mean, maybe
- 14:48it's just because obviously there are genocides happening in the world today. It seemed
- 14:52very like, oh shit, this is a genocide that is being oldered right
- 14:54now. This is doc for a family. Ye, the undertones of this
- 14:58adaptation are quite dark. And that's that's something that this show has had a
- 15:03lout of, is like, there's criticisms towards this adaptation and what it's doing
- 15:07with the story. So I had a lot of criticisms. I had a
- 15:09lot of things where I went, I don't know if I'm fully bought into
- 15:13this or if I like this. I don't. I don't know if I
- 15:16like this or not, and trying to get over my bias and a lot
- 15:20of dumb internet comments that I've seen about criticisms and so and so forth.
- 15:24I can safely say moving forward into episode five, I am on board of
- 15:28this adaptation. And that's I think a very distinct thing that we need to
- 15:31talk about is that it's an adaptation. It's yeah, it's different, it's
- 15:37a different medium, And while the first few episodes are trying to more or
- 15:41less replicate the foundation, it starts becoming its own thing and it needs to
- 15:46be its own thing and people need to think of it as its own thing.
- 15:48Right, That's usually good for adaptation, Yeah, there for sure for
- 15:52adaptations. When you're taking something from one medium to another, the rules are
- 15:58different, Like the rules of things that you can do in cartoons are different
- 16:02from what you can do in live action, like The Last of Us,
- 16:06the amount of killing you can do in a video game versus the amount of
- 16:08killing your main character can do in a TV show live action. There's different
- 16:11rules for different mediums and also different times, so adapting different things about the
- 16:19situation. The point is to tell the story with the types of character arcs
- 16:26and growth in a way that will impact this audience with this medium. And
- 16:32I'm feeling cautiously optimistic. Yeah. Yeah, from the first episode, they
- 16:36seem to be nailing like the heart of the story. I certainly like the
- 16:38moll sort of touching moments between Aang and Katara of like really nailing the things.
- 16:45Oh yeah, we're just kids and now, but we're kids during wartime,
- 16:49So yeah, there's responsibility to be shouldered and we've got a step.
- 16:55I don't know it. They kept the themes there, yeah, for sure,
- 16:57for sure, I wish there was more levity towards it. But the
- 17:00kids are are possibly the best part of the show. Yeah. Maybe it's
- 17:06just because I expect less from younger actors. Yeah, but the adults pissed
- 17:11me off. And there was there was the scene where we get introduced to
- 17:14Zuka and I was like, oh, this this, I mean, he's
- 17:17probably not a kid, the one playing. He's probably early twenties or something.
- 17:21Yeah, yeah, but it's still a young actor. He's really given
- 17:22it everything. He's nailing the like I'm acting like slightly anime exaggerated style but
- 17:27keeping it like grounded and gritty enough. It's like that's awesome. And then
- 17:32the uncle comes in and just flat reads a line like he's in a scrape
- 17:37for you don't And it's like, well, this this kid's he's trying so
- 17:42hard and he's doing so well and you're giving him nothing. Maybe maybe that's
- 17:48also a theme too, is that adults sucking kids rule? Oh yeah,
- 17:52wait a second, di'mond adult. We're not We're not gen z we don't
- 18:00don't know how to slay, will never know how to slay, but you
- 18:03do know how to slay questions, Jason, because you've got a point for
- 18:07that. Thank you. Your next quote is from a film. When you
- 18:11take on the responsibility, great power will come legends. Yes, Jason,
- 18:17I don't watch this movie. You couldn't pay me to watch this movie.
- 18:19It's Madam Web. It's it is, indeed Madam Web, absolutely brutal.
- 18:26Was anyone interested in this? I mean, you know what my answer is
- 18:29gonna do. I wasn't interested in The Good Spider Man. It just sucks
- 18:33too, because it's like they Hollywood does this all the time. They're like,
- 18:37you see, women can't sell anything. There's not a good movie,
- 18:41just the women's But it's like, yep, did you try to make a
- 18:45good movie? I don't think. So they set them up every time,
- 18:47like I suppose not every time because Bobbie has booked the trend. Yeah yeah
- 18:52this year, so last year, so we can we can point to that.
- 18:55But definitely with these franchise things, they they wait until the hype is
- 18:59done in the genre or the scene or the movement, and then they go
- 19:02all right, now it's the ladies turn and it's like putting them out on
- 19:06stage when everyone has left the building. Alright, oh yes, it's like
- 19:10what you do it? Oh wait, you're doing it on purpose. I
- 19:11see yeah, oh yeah, you're demonstrating this to maintain the patriarchy within this
- 19:15money. Very clear, very clever. Yeah, I see what you're doing.
- 19:19Sneaky like a spider. You like that, don you? With all
- 19:22your spider movies? Yeah? I am curious because there is This is from
- 19:27the B movie studio, right, this is Sony. Yeah, this is
- 19:30the this is the Spum, the Sony Pictures, the universe of Marvel Movies,
- 19:36the Spum. I didn't expect there to be two m's with you,
- 19:41sorry Spum, but yeah, no one. This is from the studio that
- 19:48brought you. That's another nail on the coffin for this movie. The wondrous
- 19:52movies you know and love Venom of course, Venom two, of course,
- 19:56amazing Spider Man two. Wait, not that one they do that? They
- 20:00did do that one? Morebius uh? Oh of course? Yeah? And
- 20:03soon also super exciting movie that everyone's super into, Craven the Hunter. Oh
- 20:08yeah, Oka, wait, how many movies have they done now? What's
- 20:11this spum count? How dare you? How many movies? Did I say?
- 20:19Too many? Too many? Too many? Is the answers. It's
- 20:22sorry, I only wanted to say the joke. Yeah, I actually get
- 20:25although I will I'm gonna check because I think what was the last movie they
- 20:29released in this uh this world? Probably Venom. They're also technically responsible for
- 20:33the Spider Verse movies, but that's a fluke. That's also that's Sony Pictures
- 20:37animation, and they feel different. Yeah they're not so, I mean,
- 20:41technically, morbius. Have they had live action characters appear in the any of
- 20:45the animated movies? Yet? Across the Spider Verse they have Donald? But
- 20:52is he a cartoon or is he himself? No, he's himself Donald.
- 20:56It's not Donald Glover, is it No, Danny Glover's who I'm thinking it
- 20:59is, Dono. It is Donald Glover. Donald Glover shows up as a
- 21:02live action version of the problem. Okay, nic Yeah, so but again,
- 21:04that's not anyone's universe. That's just an Easter egg for us. That's
- 21:07just the thing. Yeah that happens. Yeah, so it's not like it's
- 21:11not like Tom Holland's just like hello, there I'm Tom Holland look at it.
- 21:15You're flat. That's weird. Oh no, yeah, it's it.
- 21:22I was just checking out the like what it did at the box office.
- 21:25Awful? Yeah, pretty bad. But I defended the previous ones, like
- 21:29even Mobius at the box office made three times what the budget was, and
- 21:33if something makes twice the amount of the budget, it's considered a success.
- 21:37Yeah. Yeah, so I went you made the money. Yeah, I
- 21:40went to bat for some of these movies that I'm never gonna by saying that.
- 21:44From a business point of view, I see why they're doing this.
- 21:47Yeah, but this one not so much. No, No, it's it's
- 21:49exactly like you said. It's it's you've tainted your brand with subpar products on
- 21:55top of a brand that is already starting to die out. People are tired.
- 22:00All the fans are tired, general audiences are tired with keeping up with
- 22:03a bunch of stuff. It was doomed to fail from the beginning, which
- 22:07is really unfortunate because the concept in itself is not bad. It's superheroes,
- 22:11but it's remember Nicholas Cage next, Remember remember like groundhog Day? Is that
- 22:19it's that? Yeah, will be Sidney Sween remember that it's tough. Man.
- 22:29I can't talk about this movie. Yeah, no, we can move
- 22:32much to talk about. It's on to a new quote from February this again,
- 22:34we're going back to TV series for this one. Okay, here is
- 22:37the quote. We are the ones who live? What TV shows came out
- 22:42this month? Yeah? Who would? Who would need to live? Who
- 22:45would? Who? Would it be a big deal if they if they kept
- 22:48on living? What's a franchise that just for some reason keeps on living and
- 22:55it's just maybe returned some of its major stars to its to its to its
- 22:59screen for its seventh spin off? I know that, I know it.
- 23:03What franchise just won't die even though it's undead? Okay, I'm going to
- 23:11say love, Yes, this is the Walking Dead. It is the Walking
- 23:15Dead came back. And not only that, it's the Walking Dead Colon the
- 23:19Ones who Live. It's terrible because they've brought back Rick Grimes and shown I've
- 23:26been written out like five years ago and now they're back in it. What
- 23:32is the timeline? Okay, hold on, because I didn't know this existed?
- 23:33What is the timeline of this franchise? There was the Walking Dead,
- 23:37wasn't there like a prequel series that may be released. I don't think it's
- 23:41prequel. I think it was just set in a different part of America.
- 23:45Okay, going back to the start of the did that ever release? Is
- 23:48that a real thing that happened? I think that got five seasons. Yeah.
- 23:52Here's the thing. This is why I feel like I need to mention
- 23:56it. Love content, Like I feel like I got to mention it because
- 24:00this stuff is still watched by millions of people. People are hardcore into the
- 24:04Walking Dead fandom. We just don't interact with them a turn. I guess
- 24:08that's true that are we lonely or are they lonely? What's happening here?
- 24:14I feel twenty four everybody is lonely. That's true, but I'm not I
- 24:19think there's more people that watch The Walking Dead. The third or fourth spin
- 24:26off series. I think this is maathly the sixth because they've done what mini
- 24:30series. Some of them are just meant the GERRYLD. Dixon Show. I
- 24:36think that happens. Yeah, yeah, I think that's one of the spin
- 24:37offs that's already happened. This is shown solo series. No, I think
- 24:41it was. It's shown and Rick are like doing a you know, like
- 24:45how Obi Wan was like a series about I think that's that's what it's like,
- 24:49framed as a Rick show, but it's about Rick and Mashon. I
- 24:53tapped out like season seven or so. Yeah. I tapped out of like
- 24:56season two of The Walk against idea. What's going on? Yeah, I
- 25:00just think it's the CSI of our generation. It's just got the the staying
- 25:06power on TV to produce content. Someone just turn it on and just didn't
- 25:10turn it off and now they're stuck. Yeah, that's that's ultimately it.
- 25:12I guess that's okay. What's worse to be a Madam Web or to be
- 25:15a Walking Dad? I mean, philosophic, I think, yeah, it
- 25:22is. It is generally, I think Walking Dead would probably be a more
- 25:26fun set to be on because I imagine they run like a machine. Now
- 25:27it's almost like America's Doctor Who at this point. Yeah, the genre a
- 25:32piece that just keeps on going. I bet you being a zombie is like
- 25:33this generation's being a clown because you gotta go to like zombie school, you
- 25:40know, learn the physicality. There's a lot of zombie media these days.
- 25:44There's probably some barised out in Hollywood. Who's like, you know, I
- 25:47was an extra on The Walking Dead. I would do zombie school and everything.
- 25:49Three zombie certifications are ye? Would you like brains with that? Oh?
- 25:59Man, I had not. I feel like I gotta mention it that
- 26:00franchise is still alive. It's still but good job a recalling. I think
- 26:07if Matt had a gun to my head, I wouldn't have guessed that in
- 26:11a million And that would have been a clue as well, because they do
- 26:15that all the time and all the time you're dropping just alive, I'm dead.
- 26:21That could have said zombies to my face, and I still would guess
- 26:23that Last Last of Us is high are Walking Dead skin down there? It's
- 26:30the difference between like Dune and Star Wars, right, Like, oh yeah,
- 26:33I said, yeah, I am mad at you. The Last of
- 26:37Us is such a good adaptation. I am so upset that you get a
- 26:41great adaptation and I get I'm not gonna say, all right, we'll just
- 26:45we'll just move on to another release and another quote, this time about a
- 26:51video game released in February. Okay, and here's your quote. One of
- 26:55the world's finest heroes snuffed out by this love. Yes, so did the
- 27:03Last of us? Are you putting the last of Us? Know? That
- 27:06was? That was January? That was January? Okay? Uh so no,
- 27:10but I probably no that that wouldn't be a line of dialogue in the
- 27:14last Oh this is a quote from the video It's a quote from the video
- 27:18game. Yes, yes, okay, okay, snuffed up by this.
- 27:22Did a Resident Evil come out? Did a did a Final Fantasy come out?
- 27:25No? Heroes? What hero based video game? Did a Marvel game
- 27:30come out? Not Marvel? Oh? The Legends? Yes, Jason,
- 27:37Oh my god, February just flew by. I forgot this happened. Oh,
- 27:40it's suicide squad killed the Justice League. It is exactly that suicide squads
- 27:45killed the Justice League. Superhero fatigue continuing the video game world, it is,
- 27:52yes, specifically, so the hero that they're mentioning is the last voice
- 27:57role potentially of the late great Kevin Conroy Batman for an entire actually multiple generations.
- 28:06This video game takes place in the arca verse. So also for a
- 28:08generation like their definitive video game, Batman just gets shot in the face on
- 28:14a park bench by Harley Quinn. Oh yeah, did they by a woman
- 28:18as well? Did the did the in cells complain about it online like they
- 28:21did us? They definitely they'd used Oh my god, the word disrespect was
- 28:26used so much, and it's snowflakes, such a strong word for a narrative
- 28:33choice in a narrative game. The other, the other issue with this video
- 28:38game comes from superhero fatigue and video games. So a lot of video games
- 28:45have tried to become this service based thing. Yeah, live service. Yeah,
- 28:52so fortnight money, they want that Fortnite money, and so they're basically
- 28:56taking grinding game play and making you play same missions over and over again with
- 29:02new skins and new loot with hopes that either you spend hours, like dozens
- 29:07to hundreds of hours on the same thing trying to get a better thing,
- 29:11or just spend the money on it to fast forward the system as it were,
- 29:15okay, with no real multiplayer components, So it's really just for you,
- 29:19I guess. Yeah, it's not great. Yep. Yeah, so
- 29:23we've we've come to that conclusion in about forty five seconds. You think companies
- 29:27would have fucking clung on to that idea. Yeah, yeah, it's happening
- 29:33here. Me and my friends have been looking for four player games as well.
- 29:36We've like my friend's back in the UK video games how we stay in
- 29:38contacts. We recently had so much fun on Boaldus Gate. We've moved on
- 29:41to Divinity two. Another game from hell Divers Too is a new video game,
- 29:45and we've heard great things about hell Divers Too. Killed The Justice League
- 29:49was brought up for like a second until we realized it was barely it's not
- 29:53even four player properly. It's like, oh, really like it or it
- 29:56doesn't work in as many big ways as you'd want it to write. It's
- 30:00a border Lands with money. Yeah that costs money. Yeah. Yeah with
- 30:07the with hell Divers Too, where we just heard that the serve is aren't
- 30:10great and that's tough when you're going from eurof us. So we're gonna wait
- 30:14for the wait for the service, to wait for the die down. Yeah,
- 30:15because there's a lot of great clips online about hell Divers Too. But
- 30:18yeah, it's just it's just snowflakes going like they're also clinging onto continuity is
- 30:23the idea. This Batman is so awesome? How could you kill him?
- 30:26Kill him? One? It's a multiverse story. You really think they're gonna
- 30:30get this the way it is. Yeah, you don't think this is comic
- 30:33books and people. It's just god hate. Also, no one deletes the
- 30:40original thing when an adaptation is made. Yeah, No, like they don't.
- 30:44They don't say we made a live action avatar. Scrub the animated avatar.
- 30:51It's gone glob the people. Yeah, call the people. Scrub it
- 30:53from the internet. It's gone. Send for everyone. We need every single
- 30:59versi of this taken off the internet. For Life of Four Nations lived in
- 31:03harmony until Netflix attacked. Oh my god, brilliant stuff. All right,
- 31:11We've got another quote here at this time for a headline for an event that
- 31:17happened in February, and I'll say specifically, this is a quote from a
- 31:21CEO of a company. We will collaborate on an all new games and entertainment
- 31:26universe that will further expand the reach of our beloved stories and experiences that could
- 31:33be all of them. Is it Disney from my VR is Warner Brothers from
- 31:40my bathtob what's ah An? He guesses, Yes, I am going to
- 31:47go I am you said it as a joke. I am going to say
- 31:51Disney because they said stories and experiences. I think Disney says this about something
- 31:56that they're doing now. For me, this is Disney investing one point five
- 32:01billion dollars to Epic Games, so that they are now treating Fortnite as a
- 32:07franchise that can be added to their theme parks in exchange for them investing money
- 32:15into the development of the Fortniteflike, no, sorry, Disney plus adaptation is
- 32:20going to go wild gang. I can't wait. I mean it will happen.
- 32:23Yeah, it will happen. It's that's that feels like the snake eating
- 32:28itself in a different way. Because Fortnite is such an IP heavy base,
- 32:34and now that Disney is buying it, do they also have access to all
- 32:37those ips? I mean, obviously Mickey Mouse is going to hold a gun.
- 32:40We know he's in the public domain. Now we can do whatever we
- 32:45want with I can't wait to tea bag. John Wick as Pluto, Well,
- 32:52that's the thing, Like, yeah, it's the IP crossover. So
- 32:53is John Wick going to be at Disney parks? Is it the idea of
- 32:58like John Wick is shooting around firing, John Wick is never firing. I
- 33:04can't wait. That's gonna be surreal. Moment you go to Disney Park and
- 33:07you know when like kids line up to see the people in the costumes.
- 33:09Yeah, and it's just like Peely the banana and it's just out there and
- 33:13he's flossing. Kids are like freaking out in one hundred and ten degree California
- 33:17weather. But here's the thing, Like the peak Fortnite was five years ago,
- 33:22and I understand it's like a lifetime brand. People are gonna introduce their
- 33:24kids to the next version of it. All that kind of stuff. Uh,
- 33:28the kids who were into flossing when they were like eight are now thirteen,
- 33:32and by the time they arrive and arrives in Disney Parks, it'll be
- 33:36there'll be like fourteen fifteen. Yeah, the last thing they're gonna want to
- 33:38see is a banana doing a flyos. But you know, Disney's gonna pay
- 33:43some poorschemuck minimum wage, yeah, to floss and hit the glitty in a
- 33:47fucking hot suit. Yeah, in damp ass, fucking damper Florida one hundred
- 33:52percent, and all of a sudden, Jafar won't be the worst costume to
- 33:55wear anything. In terms of hate, it'll be. It'll be but a
- 34:02character he's called Peely. Yeah, Yeah, there's I know a couple.
- 34:07Mister mio stick, he's a buff cat. You'd love him. Some person
- 34:12is going to have to say that they're friends with Peelely. Yeah, Bana,
- 34:17the guy who's yeah, know that if you are the person you are
- 34:22friends with them, that's Oh, I'm friend, I'm friends with Cinderella.
- 34:28I'm friends with yeah. Almost like someone told like he dresses a Santa or
- 34:31the tooth fairy talking about oh, I know the tooth fairy kind of thing.
- 34:36At least make belief characters. I can't. Yes, I have mixed
- 34:39feelings about this. Are we in the worst world? Or are we in
- 34:42the best world. It's a world that honestly doesn't really affect me that much,
- 34:45so that's fair. But I will say at one point five billion steak
- 34:51in something like this is usually a prelude to an all out purchase in several
- 34:54years time. It's a state Oh I just yeah, yeah, I don't
- 34:58think it's a it's an actual just that's happened. But what will be interesting
- 35:01is Disney entering the video game space, because what other billion dollar companies who've
- 35:07done that in the past have wanted to do is come out with their own
- 35:10console and stuff. So I will will the twenty thirties see a Disney console.
- 35:15The epic Mickey games are getting a remaster, so it seems they can
- 35:20load it up with all the epics. Yeah, what a fucking release title,
- 35:27Epic Mickey four, Mickey's Got a Gun. Please buy it? All
- 35:31right? We got one more quote left on the board. One more quote
- 35:35in round one. This time it's from the world of sports. And this
- 35:39quote is just a comment I saw beneath a video. Okay, cook,
- 35:45why did Taylor's boyfriend push that old man? He? Yes, this is
- 35:53when Travis Kelsey yelled at his coach and it became a fucking me also known
- 36:00as the super Bowl. Yeah, at the super Bowl. At the super
- 36:04Bowl, Yeah, I mean it's the Super I felt like I had to
- 36:07mention the super Bowl. Yeah, because it's the biggest thing in sports in
- 36:10America. Therefore it's the biggest sports culture thing. Although just like every I'm
- 36:15like, I failed to see this as a sports game. Everyone online wants
- 36:19to see the hoftime show and the commercials. That's that's what people talk about,
- 36:22especially because the lineup a lot of people were not very excited for.
- 36:27I think Chiefs fans are always die our Chiefs fans and no one wanted to
- 36:30roof for the forty nine ers for some of the yeah but uh no,
- 36:36some memorable moments all featuring Travis Kelsey. I feel he's the star player,
- 36:40isn't He's the star paler? Yeah, him just going absolutely ape shit.
- 36:45I think he lost his brain when he went. I loved the memes of
- 36:52them showing Taylor's face and they're just like, she got the ick. He's
- 36:59really actions at the super Bowl will be the things that Swifties point to when
- 37:02they inevitably break up at somewhere down the line, as like, no,
- 37:06she knew from then. The way he celebrated was so cringe. We cannot
- 37:09deal with that. But also that's kind of the Kelsey brand as well,
- 37:13because did you see his brother Jason Kelcey kind of like tag along with Travis
- 37:19and Taylor afterwards. The man is unhinged. There's a lot of means of
- 37:24like when your custom character walks through the cut scene, because he's like he's
- 37:30decked out in like flames and just like it's the Las Vegas like after party's
- 37:35celebration for them and he's fully decked out in like Mohawks and just chief skeer
- 37:40and just walking behind them like a third wheel toddler with his little tummy out.
- 37:44And it's really funny. Now, I love the Kelsey boys. Good.
- 37:49Good on Travis's team because they've pushed him to the moon and he's great.
- 37:52He's a good character. Good on the Chiefs. I know people in
- 37:58Kansas City. I prefer Kansas City to the forty nine ers. That's true,
- 38:06A lovable due for his years and we stand. Yeah, and they're
- 38:08all they'll all wear matching shirts, just like nerds do at conventions. Yeah,
- 38:12as we've said so many times, sports is fandom. Travis Kelsey and
- 38:15his friends, we love them. Yeah, yeah, I think. I
- 38:19think their quarterback, Patrick Mahomes is arguably one of the greatest quarterbacks of all
- 38:22time, but no one talks about it Travis and his friend. Okay,
- 38:30that is the end of round one, and holy shit, guys, you
- 38:32both know February equally well three points apiece, Oh my god. Okay,
- 38:39Now Round two is going to be a little bit different than the past several
- 38:43months that we've been playing this, and so is round three for that for
- 38:45that matter. For that matter of fact, I'm sugar, we had cupcakes.
- 38:52Yeah, it's so, I've made two games for you guys based on
- 38:57headlines from from this past month. And it's less that you need to know
- 39:01things. It more sort of just like links to and then we can play
- 39:05the games. But the best way to play games is play them, right,
- 39:07Let's just get to it. Yeah. Round two is called Josh Brolin's
- 39:12Poetry Corner. Oh, so, I think I think you guys might know
- 39:16what this could be to do with so Dune Part two worms its way into
- 39:21theaters in March. But have you guys been following the Josh brolinan poetry that
- 39:25he's been writing about his Dune co stars. I've been going in spoiler free
- 39:30No it happened, but I haven't read anyone because I want to buy the
- 39:34book. What No, this is? This is perfect. It's it's super
- 39:38earnest, occasionally horny, and apparently he's written poems about everyone on set and
- 39:45so and he's going to release as a as a book alongside it. But
- 39:50I've decided to make a game out of his poetry. So in this game,
- 39:53I will read a line of poetry. All Audra and Jason have to
- 39:57do is decide if it was written by Josh Rolin on me at two am,
- 40:04Sexy Hour. That's great, both guests for each one, so you
- 40:07can either like go say you go for different answers and reflect your points.
- 40:12It's however you feel. I might try doing a Josh Brolin voice because it's
- 40:15just that generic, like American, it's extremely generic. Yeah, Josh Broke,
- 40:22Josh Broke, Josh Brolin, Josh Brolin in June two. Is that
- 40:29is that kind of? It's kind of it's the thing where you're whispering and
- 40:32growling. Give it a little naz wh I think a little a little higher,
- 40:36a little higher, Yeah, a little higher like that? Yeah,
- 40:38yeah, yeah, Josh star of movies, and yeah true? Is it
- 40:43my true? Great? No, I think I'm thinking of someone else.
- 40:47I'm in Marvel. Is he old No country for old men? Yeah?
- 40:52No, maybe that's what I'm Okay, there we go. I was in
- 40:54that movie. But now let me read you some of my poetry that I
- 40:58wrote about some of my co stars. Love them all. These these first
- 41:02poems that come from the poem about Florence Pew, great great actor, great
- 41:07actor. Okay, here we go. Where she looks matters, even with
- 41:13a sparkling veil over her face. Her eyes shine a mischief that's hidden by
- 41:19her soft orange laugh orange. I'm going, Brolin, I think this is
- 41:27real. This is real, Really, Brolin, it is this is I
- 41:31want to get a feel for his voice as well, because I feel like
- 41:35I know your voice in in parody. Yeah, I've tried. I've tried
- 41:38to replicate his voice as much as possible, I mean, in writing better
- 41:43than Yeah. God, it's killing my voice. You don't do it,
- 41:49you don't know. There's only five more of these to go. So here's
- 41:53another one about Florence great Gal. When a star arrives in pure silver light,
- 42:00you can feel her presence shift the balance of a set talent that will
- 42:06take her into a storm. She is already becoming. I like the last
- 42:12line. That's very like amateur poetry. I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go.
- 42:19I'm gonna go browling again. Actually I'm gonna go mad. Okay,
- 42:23split split vote, that's good, that's good. This one was me.
- 42:30This one was me, although I did take like one or two words that
- 42:32he used, but I think he used presence and talked about becoming. Yeah,
- 42:38yeah, nice that's this is good. This is good, and I
- 42:43do one is like Miss Piggy. That's not way for one of the impressions.
- 42:46I do do like a. Do any of us have a Miss Piggy?
- 42:52I think I could do Fazzy Bear Waka Walka, I'm a the Bat.
- 43:06Yeah good, I don't know. I just wanted to say I got
- 43:15one more about Florence Pugh before we'll move on to the main event, the
- 43:20five. There's three Florence Pews the only poems. That's true, that's fair,
- 43:25the only poems that have been released ahead of the buck of the two.
- 43:29One about Florence Pugh, one about Timothy Chalomey. So we've got three
- 43:31about Florence Pugh. Then we got three about Timothy Shallow, and you'll see
- 43:36why Timothy Shallamy is the main event. So here's your final one about Florence
- 43:39Pugh. I think with Josh, I watch a bunch of interviews and really
- 43:45nailed it. But now that we're outside of that space, I'm not that's
- 43:52okay. I think with this character either rubbing off or being incarnate already,
- 43:59she's destined to a lava that nobody eventually will even dare approach. Is this
- 44:05poetry or is this just thinking that it is a style of poetry? Okay,
- 44:08like free verse, incarnate is a strong Incarnate is a strong word.
- 44:13That's Brolin. That's Berlin. You feel that, man, if you if
- 44:19if you brought up incarnate, that's crazy. That's huge place from you.
- 44:22I do know some words. I know if you I'm gonna say this is
- 44:28Brolin. Also, I feel like I feel it you both saying Berlin,
- 44:30It is Brolin. Yeah, this is good stuff. How do you feel
- 44:34about is poetry about Florence per Bear in your mind? The middle one wasn't
- 44:37real? It's poetry is one of those things where when you say a thing,
- 44:44it's like, all right, guy, it sounds it sounds better in
- 44:47your head. I think poetry always does. Like that's one of the weirdest
- 44:51things, because that's the that's the thing is about poetry that people say is
- 44:54like, oh, you have to hear it out loud, And I'm like,
- 44:57do you though, it's never as good when I hear how earnest you
- 45:01are. It's like it's like when some people just speak lyrics without context of
- 45:07music, they sound sound kind of bad, and but at all the music
- 45:12in there and it's great, and it's like this is our fantastic I think
- 45:15poetry is just missing that music. And all I'm doing is shitting on an
- 45:17older art form from pre electric guitar. Let's be fair. We're not shitting
- 45:22on Brolin. It's just the idea of poetry. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 45:24oh yeah, We're not shitting on one specific person that the Internet agrees
- 45:28is kind of average. We're all of poetry. That's how high we are
- 45:34on our horses. Okay, speaking of horses. His his poetry about a
- 45:39proud thoroughbred called me that hr. I can say that about Timothy Shalloway.
- 45:47People can't say that about Yeah, I quit that job. Nice. Okay,
- 45:53here is the first one about shallow May. And remember these are hornier.
- 45:58He's much hornier for Timy. Your juvenile face is etched with a maturity.
- 46:04I cannot resist, no, I fear the age. I have become
- 46:08a hopeful sage to gaze upon your pronounced beauty. That's a lot that's long,
- 46:15that's longer than the others. Hopeful sage is as such a good it's
- 46:22such good imagery. I this is a lot. I'm gonna go with Matt
- 46:29on this one, because I think he's pulled the essence of a lot of
- 46:30these quotes and he's he's turned it up to eleven. Yeah, I just
- 46:36this is maybe this is my bias showing. I do think this is you
- 46:39because I trust you to have come up with something as good as hopeful Sage.
- 46:44Are you both going for me on this one? Yeah? Yeah,
- 46:45it absolutely is me. And again I've pulled that. I've pulled the essence
- 46:51of the lines and changed them around a bit, but hopeful Sage was mine.
- 46:54So I'll take no. I just I like the contrast of that so
- 47:00much. Maybe poetry is good. Hold on, I can do the ode
- 47:06less traveled by Stephen Frye. I will teach you how to write poetry.
- 47:09I haven't finished it the writing poetry either. Okay, here is your next
- 47:16poem about Timothy Shallomey. Your cheekbones jump toward water, youth laden eyes that
- 47:23slide down a prominent nose onto lips of a certain poetry. Sure, it's
- 47:31detailed. This is where we were talking about. Poetry is a lot.
- 47:35It's it's a lot. I feel I am going to reverse my thought process
- 47:40a certain poetry. I do really like as a as like a phrasing,
- 47:46a grouping of words. Yea. But I am going to give this one
- 47:50to Brolin. I do think the famous one is JB. Honestly, I'm
- 47:53also leaning towards that, but just for fun, I'm gonna go with Matt.
- 47:59Respect it is, but it's Brolin this one. Respect. There's something
- 48:06about the succinctness I love. Also, you're like that first one it was
- 48:12a really long one, and that second one you're like, that's short.
- 48:15There's maybe like three words different. I like, that's what poetry does to
- 48:22people, put us in different places. You took me on a journey,
- 48:24you know, Yeah, that's what it was. Okay, we come to
- 48:28the final the final poem is this is this Brolin? Or is this me?
- 48:31Because something in me tells me you are going to offer me something,
- 48:36and for now, I'm not sure it's going to be something I want anymore.
- 48:40Oh that's so vague and simple compared to the other ones. You know,
- 48:47like the other ones are like, oh, if I could jump on
- 48:51a lily pad and smell the history within your eyebirth, that's exactly how I
- 48:53wrote it. But this one's just that was good. It's kind of how
- 49:02Brolin talks about people. All Right, I am that's a hard one.
- 49:09I'm gonna go with Brolin. I think the simplicity of it is just again,
- 49:13it's gonna match the stream of consciousness, consciousness that he his. Let's
- 49:19go Brolin. You're both going Brolin. Yeah, this one's Brolin to finish
- 49:22off, absolutely pure true Brolin. It was simple. Yeah, he talks
- 49:29about his co stars. I wonder what's gonna come out about Stealin's Scarsguard.
- 49:32Is that big creamy barrel. The way you float makes me want to float
- 49:38with you. I did see. I spoiled myself a little bit. I
- 49:45did see. Austin Butler, who's known for voices as replicated Stellin Scars War's
- 49:52voice, and it is haunting performance. He's annoyed me throughout the past few
- 49:58years and impressed to us with his whole Elvis Presley stick and stuff. Yeah,
- 50:02but I'm excited. I think this is good casting. I thought that
- 50:06they were going to get I thought they weren't going to have this character because
- 50:08he is like relevant, like he's introduced in the first half of the book.
- 50:13I was so excited when I was like, fuck yeah, we got
- 50:16fav out the and hey, that's coming up in next month's fandom flashback.
- 50:21I'm sure there's gonna be tons of Dune Part two talk. I'll post pictures
- 50:24on our Instagram when we go to see it. Oh, yes, the
- 50:30bus. We're going to see if we can get one of the dumb fucking
- 50:32buckets. They're so good, you're capitalist dogs. Yeah, okay, it's
- 50:40a fun bucket. Let's look at those scores. Those scores are well,
- 50:44it's all changed for some from some risky plays by Jason, but I respect
- 50:49it. Jason is on seven points, but Audrey is in the lead with
- 50:52nine points. My mastery of verse, you know it, you know,
- 50:59you know the poems get developed in this segment as well. Yeah, I
- 51:01didn't have some emotions. I did not have it before this. This is
- 51:06just a crash course. You might finish that, Stephen bridebuck Now I might.
- 51:10Okay, let's move on to round three. Round three is a game
- 51:14that's called finished projects versus Hollywood. Oh now. This month saw the news
- 51:20of yet another completed film scrapped by Warner Brothers. Chayote versus Acme. Yeah,
- 51:25uh well, I think I would have enjoyed that film, What do
- 51:29you guys think? Honestly, I feel like I didn't miss personally. I
- 51:31didn't miss out on anything with like other films that have recently been scrapped,
- 51:35but John Cena versus Will Forte in a courtroom legal battle with cartoons everywhere.
- 51:40Yeah I heard some talent. Yeah, I heard some talent that was made.
- 51:44It really exciting and it was interesting. So no, oh well,
- 51:47okay, So in this game, we're going to look at other abandoned,
- 51:52fully completed films from history and how much they lost. So how much they
- 51:57supposedly lost the company in terms of how much the budget was to get it
- 52:01right, to get it made, although we say lost the film costs seventy
- 52:07five million dollars to make Coyote versus Acme, that is, but they managed
- 52:10to write off around one hundred and fifteen million dollars in tax in their fourth
- 52:15quarter of twenty twenty three. So depending on how many other projects got scrapped,
- 52:20they may have even profited by not releasing this movie, which is why
- 52:23these things happened. Someone showed somebody high up the producers and they were like,
- 52:30this is great. Why is no one doing this yeah, yeah,
- 52:34pretty much. So now that you guys know that Coyote Versus Acme costs seventy
- 52:38five million dollars, we're going to play a classic game of higher or lower.
- 52:43Okay, So I'm going to read another project that was scrapped in film
- 52:47history, and all you've got to say is whether you think it's higher or
- 52:52lower, as in lost more money or less money than the previous project in
- 52:57the sequence. Okay, So we're beginning with Coyote versus Acme, and your
- 53:00next project is bats Go bats Girl from a couple of years ago as a
- 53:07scrapped DC project from fully finished, fully finished, Yeah, fully finished.
- 53:14Higher Jason saying higher as in lost more money. I'm gonna say, I'm
- 53:20gonna go bold, I'm gonna go lower, say lower, it is higher,
- 53:24it is million. I've adjusted all these for inflation, but I imagine
- 53:30it was ninety million, because now it's ninety five million. Ah. This
- 53:34one is when I followed closely. I heard about this one. Yeah.
- 53:37Yeah. It's the main victim of the DC shift in terms of like changing
- 53:42over from the Snyder era to the James Gunny era, right, yeah,
- 53:45yeah, yeah, because again they didn't know what they were going to do.
- 53:47Michael Keaton has filmed several cameos because they thought he was going to be
- 53:52the Batman going forward. Yes, then they shot it again with Ben Affleck,
- 53:58and then they were like, what do we do put George Clooney in
- 54:00a thing? I don't know? DC has no fucking clue what's going on.
- 54:04It's crazy. Oh yeah, and I guess it just was another thing
- 54:07of it became more expensive, it became more profitable to write this off.
- 54:13Yeah, and just yeah, recoup that money, which is insane. It's
- 54:15with projects like this. It's only really a shame for anyone who's like Star
- 54:20is on the rise and whoever would like lose out on this being a thing
- 54:22because the other thing is and I've heard several people mention this. If let's
- 54:27say, you know, you've done the calculations, and you're like, if
- 54:30we write it off, we make more money than if we ever release it.
- 54:32Why not just release it afterwards? That it's a piece of art that
- 54:36people have put work and time into, And it's like, if you've already
- 54:38major money, just release it for free or leak it or something. There's
- 54:42certainly that argument to be made, and in terms of leaks. That's something
- 54:45that happened with this next project in the list. So ninety six million dollars
- 54:49is your number on the board. This next project is the Fantastic Four,
- 54:52but from nineteen ninety three. Yeah, so this is pre MCU. I
- 54:58don't know this number. I'm gonna go with less and yeah, everything suggested
- 55:04for inflation. I'll say that against Arrested Development did an episode about this movie.
- 55:08Yes, I'm gonna go lower, just because I think since it's pre
- 55:19Superhero Boom, I think they won't have thought to spend fuck off money a
- 55:23super not like if it was a scrapped Fantastic Faull project now, which I
- 55:28believe isn't going It's going ahead, right, they're doing You are both absolutely
- 55:36right, this one is lower even adjusted for inflation. They only spent three
- 55:40million dollars on this, and stan Lee went on to say in the years
- 55:45afterwards that he thinks it was only so that parts of the movie industry could
- 55:50secure trademarks on various Marvel things. So it's not the whole thing was a
- 55:53Ponzi scheme, but it kind of was. It was kind of like,
- 55:55let's pretend we're making a movie, so we can so we can get stand
- 56:00in the Door, Hollywood, so we can get Marvel property in the in
- 56:02the doll There's apparently a fantastic documentary about it that I will watch eventually,
- 56:07because there was a lot of things that happened with people who were hired and
- 56:10gave checks and bonus checks to put like intentionally shell this. And there's even
- 56:16like a testimonial from a producer who when I bought as many copies as I
- 56:21could and I burned them in my backyard. Yeah, which is crazy,
- 56:24Yeah, crazy. I've got to watch that documentary because that really peaked my
- 56:29interest of like, oh that's that's super interesting from a Hollywood business point of
- 56:32view. But yeah, so three million dollars is on the board, and
- 56:37for this one, I'm really going to remind that we are adjusting for inflation.
- 56:42Because your next film comes from nineteen twenty six, whoa and is a
- 56:45film called a Woman of the Sea. Do you want any guesses at which
- 56:51director will have done this in the nineteen twenties, big big name in Hollywood
- 56:53in the in the nineteen twenties, James Cameron lumi Air Guys. One decade
- 57:05after the loomis early American pioneer. Uh, the one that did that Rosebud
- 57:15No, no, not no. But we're in the right era now for
- 57:19sure. Uh. You know he's got a funny little mustache and the top
- 57:24chopping Chaplin. Yeah, Charlie Chaplin. Wow. He did a film called
- 57:30a Woman of the Sea. Now, is this for tax purposes? Yes?
- 57:34And he was the first person to do it. This is the earliest
- 57:37recording recorded example of someone scrapping a film for tax purposes, and he famously
- 57:42also burned all copies of the film a bit in a big party. I
- 57:45think this is going to be higher, higher than three million, adjusted for
- 57:51inflation. My prediction, it's going to be wildly fucking higher, wildly wildly
- 57:58higher, That's what I think, because I think he's gonna have poured everything
- 58:01onto it and been like, we're writing it off. Let's fucking write it
- 58:04up. Yeah. I'm just gonna go lower because I don't know much about
- 58:08films, but I know old films are like man spills a spoon, woman
- 58:15looks at sea. It looks at se five seconds and then the subtitles come
- 58:22up and it's like, wow, that's water. Okay, So we've got
- 58:28higher from Audra, wildly higher from Uldra, not that it matters, and
- 58:31we got a lower from Jason. This is even adjusted for inflation, is
- 58:37actually lower. Whoa, it's two million dollars. It's just simply the films
- 58:43were much cheaper to produce back in the day, partly because they weren't pesky
- 58:46workers. Right, So that's one for Jason there, Yeah, two million
- 58:51dollars. Good job on the lower there. That's crazy. All right,
- 58:54we're gonna we're gonna catch up to the modern day just a little bit.
- 58:58And you know what, for this one, I'm just gonna say the name
- 59:00of the film and see see if anyone remembers it. So it's from twenty
- 59:05seventeen, and the film is Goal. I mean, it's gotta be more
- 59:10right, two million, it's gotta be right. I feel like the Paranormal,
- 59:15like the first Paranormal Activity, I bet you was like two point three
- 59:17million or something like that, even if it was just filmed on iPhones or
- 59:21whatever. Okay, but Gore? Is this Gore? Or is this al
- 59:27Gore? Is this a movie about Al Gore? And it's gonna have been
- 59:32like three hundred thousand because he's saving all the money for the environment. Yeah,
- 59:38three hundred thousand and rescued polar bear. It's what this film? Yes,
- 59:45or Hiro lowdly for twenty seventeen film called Goal Higher. We're going higher
- 59:55like Auldre's voice. Yeah higher, Jason, Yeah higher, Yeah, both
- 1:00:00going both going higher. Yeah, it is higher. You've not followed from
- 1:00:04my trap. I tried to make it sound like it could have been a
- 1:00:06low budget horror movie go, but it was actually an abandoned biopic about gol
- 1:00:10Vidal. Oh you were so you were, you were close with the gore.
- 1:00:16But it's due to the person who was playing Golvidal, oh, Kevin
- 1:00:21spacey seventy. Not just tax purposes, it's just overall. That one had
- 1:00:28to be scrapped because there was no way they could release it. Yeah.
- 1:00:30Yeah, but you both get a point for that one. Nice, all
- 1:00:35right, good one one film left in the sequence. Forty six million was
- 1:00:38how much they lost Netflix lost because of oh, the Golvidal biopic Big Money.
- 1:00:45So forty six million is your number. And your final film is also
- 1:00:49from twenty twenty two, and it is scub Holiday Haunt what. Yeah,
- 1:00:54it was gonna be a sequel to the remember Scoob the animated there was gonna
- 1:00:59be like a holiday sequel to Oh I said there was going to be that
- 1:01:01was fully finished? Wow? Oh man, because it's hard because uh,
- 1:01:07animated films are usually cheaper, but still, like forty six mil is cheap
- 1:01:13in today's world, so like a bit tough to finish. Yeah, I'm
- 1:01:16gonna say higher, higher than forty six mil. Yeah, I'm gonna say
- 1:01:22lower. Just just for dramas, just for the drama, just fucking drama.
- 1:01:30You love Scooby do you wouldn't you have wanted them to splash the cash
- 1:01:32out on Scoob. I want them to splash that cash on a better Scooby
- 1:01:36do you adaptation? Another one with John Cena. Yeah, so we got
- 1:01:43higher from Jason lower from Auldra. Nice intense For the final question of the
- 1:01:45round, Higher or lower than forty six million? Scoob A Holiday Haunt cost
- 1:01:51forty three million to make. That's how much they lost or possibly wrote off
- 1:01:57in text, right, Yeah, possibly profits Scooba Holiday Haunts. That's a
- 1:02:01point for Ordra there. Nice all right, Yeah, that's the end of
- 1:02:05the round. What do you think of the two custom games that are based
- 1:02:07on. I like this a lot, ye, keeping us on our toes.
- 1:02:10Yeah yeah, I like the theme as well. That it's it's based
- 1:02:14off of the headlines that are coming on. Yeah, then just different things
- 1:02:16each time. Yeah, yeah, like a lot. All right, good,
- 1:02:20Oh you both get an extra point compliments. All right, So let's
- 1:02:24check those scores. Jason, still behind on twelve points, Udra's lead not
- 1:02:29so strong. Now only ahead by one thirteen points. Very nice, And
- 1:02:34our final round it's not changed. It's the inventive, the genius, the
- 1:02:38inspired, the world famous audio word cloud. It's the thing that plays.
- 1:02:46So if you are listening to this for the first time, an audio word
- 1:02:51cloud slowly reveals clues to an upcoming media release the world is excited about,
- 1:02:57specifically something that had a major trailer this month. As soon as you know
- 1:03:00the answer, buzz in and say what you think it is. Oh and
- 1:03:05this final question is worth two points, so anyone could win. Wow.
- 1:03:10Here it is this month's audio word cloud game franchise Wrath Shooter, gear Box
- 1:03:23Pandora. Le Yes, Jason, this was a weird one. This is
- 1:03:30the Borderlands movie. Yes, this is the trailer for the action movie adaptation
- 1:03:36of Borderlands, the louter shooter video game series. Have you seen the trailer?
- 1:03:39I have, yes, yeah, several times. Yea, yeah,
- 1:03:43it's it's a weird one. So we've all played Borderlands adra famously within our
- 1:03:49friend group dislikes it. I'm not a fan. Yeah, I get lost
- 1:03:54and I have no aim in video games. Yeah, and so rough time
- 1:03:59for is rough. There's a lot of that world. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:04:02rough game for me to play. I however, I'm a big, big
- 1:04:04fan and there's kind of huge internet hate towards this. Oh yeah, and
- 1:04:11I don't think deserves Yeah. So it's a weird cast. It is that.
- 1:04:15That's the thing that really intrigues me, is that how we at the
- 1:04:17cast is yes, and it's giving me like the D and D movie vibes
- 1:04:23from a couple of years ago, last year, where it's like I'm interested
- 1:04:27in the ensemble and in this world and I'll probably watch it when it hits
- 1:04:30streaming. Yeah, that is where I'm at with it. Who's who's in
- 1:04:34it? May I ask? It's okay? So like, first of all,
- 1:04:38Jack Black's claptrap is inspired because oh Jack Black clap trap. Oh listen
- 1:04:43to how that sounds? Right? That's fantastic. But then isn't it okay,
- 1:04:47isn't it like Kate Blanchette, Yeah, Kate Blanchette is the super stereotypical
- 1:04:55hot game feminine or heroine lil Yes. It's then Kevin Hart, who's the
- 1:05:02also stereotypically hot, super stereotypical hero. And then it's we've got Jamie Lee
- 1:05:10Curtis is in it. Jamie Lee Curtis is Patricia Tannis. Yeah, a
- 1:05:14seventy year old woman playing the crazy scientist character. Arianna Greenblatt is tiny Tina.
- 1:05:21That's fine, she's she's a child actress. Yeah, a lot of
- 1:05:26media now. And then it's a Floridian I don't know his last name,
- 1:05:30I'm sorry, big buff guy from Creed as Creeg the Psycho. Yes,
- 1:05:33he's just a voiceless buff guy in the trailers right now. But the weird
- 1:05:39thing is is that it's a seven year old woman, a like fifties to
- 1:05:44sixties. I think it's fair to say that, like Cate blanchet is fifty
- 1:05:46yeah, yeah, yeah woman. And then it's Kevin Hart, a comedy
- 1:05:50small man who's these stereotypical characters. That feels the most out of place for
- 1:05:56me. That feels most because he's not funny in the trailer at all.
- 1:06:00Yeah, he's not being Kevin Hart at all. But the thing is is
- 1:06:02I like that it's not the fan cast by any means of these characters.
- 1:06:08And I think the big swing I think the appeal of Borderlands is that it's
- 1:06:13mad Max with a touch of sixteen year old humor in it. You know,
- 1:06:17like there's psychos that just yell semen. There's weird missions where you're picking
- 1:06:23up like porny mags and like other random bits for a mechanic who's a product
- 1:06:29of potentially incest and as a Southern accident, anything for his hot mom.
- 1:06:33It's all sorts of weird. Speaking of hot moms, it sounds like that's
- 1:06:36what the cast is for this film, honestly. Yeah. And I think
- 1:06:40a lot of internet game boys are mad because it's not their fan castings.
- 1:06:43But it's like, you can't do stereotypical castings and a serious Borderlands game because
- 1:06:49then you lose your precious comedy that makes the game yeah or world interesting.
- 1:06:55Yeah. So that the overall feel and vibe of the trailer is this is
- 1:06:59guard into the Galaxy because there's something hard definitely in the trailer is with a
- 1:07:04little bit of a weird world, and that's what you want to go for
- 1:07:08as an adaptation, I think, right, yeah, Like we were saying
- 1:07:10at the start with Avatar, it's a similar line of thinking and bothlines is
- 1:07:15a manic series. It's a very manic game, so this is a manic
- 1:07:19cast. This is a manic choice to take. It might just feel like
- 1:07:23your typical action popcorn movie, but hey, isn't it great that it's from
- 1:07:27a brand new franchise that hasn't yet hit the big screen. With's nice,
- 1:07:30Yeah, with a brand new feel like that's what you want from these types
- 1:07:32of movies, because in my opinion, when we talk about adaptations, you
- 1:07:36can't get the feelings across in the same way. The whole point of that
- 1:07:41type of humor, like to randomly play basketball or like shoot a guy in
- 1:07:45the face because he tells you to shoot you in the face, is because
- 1:07:46you spent hours doing regular, normal video game things, right, and you're
- 1:07:51the person who's doing it, So it feels weird that you're shooting a guy
- 1:07:55in the face, but you just watch a guy shoot a guy in the
- 1:07:57face. Randomly. Yeah, it probably is not as fun. No,
- 1:08:00So I think doing a weird cast of a listers is going to get people
- 1:08:04talking, and it's gonna be a hopefully decent popcorn movie like Dungeons and Dragons
- 1:08:09was. It's a fun adventure. Yeah, that's the ultimate goal. Yeah,
- 1:08:13we'll wait to see I mean we want review it in March, partly
- 1:08:15because I think it's out in a few months time, yeah, and also
- 1:08:19because, as I previously said, it's a wait for streaming one. Yeah.
- 1:08:24But hey, we can get excited about doing part two. That literally
- 1:08:27in a few days time we will be going to see together in Imax.
- 1:08:30My first. I don't think I've been in an Imax screen since pre Pandemic,
- 1:08:34pre Pande. What a movie to do it? Yeah? What?
- 1:08:39I want to see those worms. I want to see Timmy Shallowmy write some
- 1:08:42worm. Yeah. I want to see your hand in my worm bucket.
- 1:08:47I won't just be my hand in them, like the look of those teeth.
- 1:08:57All right, Well that's about it from us. Oh wait, I've
- 1:09:00got to read the final scores. Oh Jason, you will thanks fourteen points
- 1:09:06to thirteen. Okay, Well that's about it from us. Thank you for
- 1:09:10supporting us here on Patreon. It means so much that you do so,
- 1:09:13and we hope you've enjoyed our silly little extra offering for this month. I
- 1:09:16know I had a good time. Yeah, we hope you enjoyed our Scott
- 1:09:20Pilgrim and Greek Mythology episodes episodes. Yeah. I love our cast so much.
- 1:09:26It's records are My energy was kind of dying down at the end of
- 1:09:30last year. My energy is right back up there, and I love the
- 1:09:33energy that everyone's bringing. A couple of the recordings have been after like really
- 1:09:39stressful days and it's just really cheered my day up. I just I'm I'm
- 1:09:43loving this year. Thank you to everyone who's recorded with us so far,
- 1:09:45and I hope they cheer your day up too, like these recordings. Oh
- 1:09:49yeah when the regular feed episode drops, yeah, like I hope it's It's
- 1:09:55so much fun and it's been great sharing clips this this month. On talk
- 1:10:00I've used TikTok throughout February. I say it like that I use TikTok in
- 1:10:04such a boom away because I do not have it as an app on my
- 1:10:08phone. Good. I use the browser uploader to upload and edit videos and
- 1:10:15drop them because then I don't have to get sucked into an algorithm. Yeah,
- 1:10:17that I will loathe and get addicted to it at the same time,
- 1:10:20it starts being really nice to just like throw clips up and to It reminds
- 1:10:25me of Twitter, honestly. It reminds me of what Twitter was like about
- 1:10:28ten years ago, where you put a thing out there and the algorithm would
- 1:10:30just put it in the faces of different people. Yeah, and people engaged.
- 1:10:34Like we've there was We've got one video that we got like sixty likes
- 1:10:40on it. No, wait, there's one video that has ninety likes.
- 1:10:43Wow. Wait, I like there's a video that has one hundred and one
- 1:10:45likes because I remember watching it go over one hundred. Wow. So it's
- 1:10:48it's really cool. And then our listenership has gone up, which is great
- 1:10:53to see. So people are checking us out from TikTok. Yeah, obviously
- 1:10:56this is just the just the Patreon, but yeah, it's good to like,
- 1:11:00that's a great note because it's like you guys supporting us on the Patreon,
- 1:11:02Like that really feels things like this, Yes for us to do more
- 1:11:06projects later on as well and expand that out because you guys get this monthly
- 1:11:11goodie, which is great, but also supporting us allows us to do more
- 1:11:15stuff like that. Not only does Matt's energy go up with that, but
- 1:11:18it's like to get engagement like that. That hypes me up so much because
- 1:11:23a like versus a view is so different in the world of TikTok for sure.
- 1:11:27That means a hundred that's crazy. Actually, I want to say this
- 1:11:29out loud. One hundred and one people liked that clip. Yeah, I
- 1:11:31think it was like it was it was viewed by about nine hundred people and
- 1:11:36one hundred and one of I've been really specific. It sounds like I'm being
- 1:11:40really pidantic, but it's like one in nine people. Yeah. And then
- 1:11:43when you check the stats for like who watched the video all the way through,
- 1:11:45it was about one in nine people. So it's like pretty much everyone
- 1:11:48who watched it all the way through likes it. And that's pretty cool.
- 1:11:50That's awesome. Yeah, that's awesome. So yeah, follow us on TikTok
- 1:11:54at gate leap as if you're not already. If that's not your thing,
- 1:11:58I get it because I just talked to us on discord Yeah and all the
- 1:12:00other things. That's fine. Yeah, and in March, we have an
- 1:12:04episode with some brand new players that we've already recorded that's in the fandom of
- 1:12:10PC gaming, which was one of those nice broad ones that we can get
- 1:12:13forward to, very silly, and yeah, yeah, that was a really
- 1:12:15fun episode. And then I think we're gonna revisit a classic fandom towards the
- 1:12:20end of March, one that we haven't touched since season one of gate Leapers
- 1:12:26actually, and we're going to leap into it in a very Gateleapers way.
- 1:12:29But I'm gonna I'm gonna keep that honestly. Yeah. Since, yeah,
- 1:12:31I'm falling on that. I am hyped for this. Yeah, because I
- 1:12:35think it serves as redemption. I think it serves as well. It's going
- 1:12:41to be a versus as well. Well, these are all clues that I
- 1:12:45own, So I want to know what people would think this is. Yeah,
- 1:12:49I mean, let us know in the comments below this on Patreon,
- 1:12:53like what fandom do you think we're revisiting? Not touched it since season one?
- 1:12:57It will be a rematch, And also you two are going to on
- 1:13:00the same team. I thought, again, I thought it's going to be
- 1:13:02a nice place to be in. Yeah, yeah, yes, I'm enjoying
- 1:13:06this cap. It's the Captain's United, It's we win. Any final words
- 1:13:15from you both for the month before we uh, before we sign off?
- 1:13:18You know, always floss, Always remember to clean your belly button and behind
- 1:13:27your ears. Sometimes I forget just good advice. That's just no one's smelling
- 1:13:30behind your ear, but they tell you to do it. Yeah, but
- 1:13:33when you notice that you haven't cleaned behind your owning is, You're like,
- 1:13:36damn, why didn't I do that? Yeah? Disgusting. Yeah, just
- 1:13:41ended on life advice. No, you said any words for the end of
- 1:13:45the month, and I just said disgusting. Yeah. Jovial leap leap,
- 1:13:51leap, leap, leap, leap leap. No, we should have said
- 1:13:55that the most sacretive day. Forget what I said. Leap, leap,
