- 0:10What does the nanny do? OK, so we're done.
- 0:13Goodbye. You.
- 0:16Shut it off. Do not twist my words.
- 0:19Do not make me a victim, sweetie.
- 0:21Just look at the mountain. That's what you saw that day.
- 0:25Just the knife in the kidneys over.
- 0:27All these. Years and the sacrifices that I
- 0:31made to love you. Not to alarm anyone, but demons
- 0:51out, it's demons out time. I happen to love when Kody says
- 0:58demons out. So when I saw what was going to
- 1:00happen in this episode, I had some blood flowing to somebody
- 1:04parts and I was very excited it.
- 1:07Was bound to happen during this episode because we are at season
- 1:16Truly is an invasion. That quote was bound to happen
- 1:32Convincing as always.
- 1:33Yes, Season 6, episode 12, we're
- 1:36the cul-de-sac and Kody is going to give us a reminder of them
- 1:40getting into the houses, which, you know, we start so many
- 1:43episodes of the reminder of how we got where we were, as if we
- 1:47haven't already been on this journey plenty of times.
- 1:50We get an aerial shot of the Brown family cul-de-sac and I
- 1:54did note to myself the houses are huge.
- 2:01Lots of harsh corners and large.
- 2:06Harsh corners. I mean, there are corners, yes.
- 2:10I don't know if we've actually
- 2:12really, it's funny, even though we went through the journey of
- 2:14watching the houses being built.
- 2:16I don't know, like I've talked about, I mean, they're big ticky
- 2:21Tan stucco houses that are large in square.
- 2:25And Christine's has stone in the front because she spent her
- 2:28budget on that. And Robbins has a large fountain
- 2:36Of my sister Closet Closet.
- 2:40Well, they're kind of recapping the whole how we got here where
- 2:42we are thing. It was funny because there was a
- 2:44joke about the C word for their properties, which is the
- 2:49compound and kind of a dirty word in the whole polygamist
- 2:54cult world. And they also refer to the Brown
- 2:57family cul-de-sac as the polygdesac.
- 3:00Polygdesac I was like. OK, We're really going there and
- 3:04it was definitely worth noting
- 3:06You're welcome. They're on the couch giving us
- 3:10this little tidbit about how they got there yet again, and
- 3:15Robyn has on this shiny blue top
- 3:23The Blues don't match, not that they would have to.
- 3:27However, the top looks very fancy.
- 3:29It looks like it's made out of
- 3:32homecoming ish dress would be made out of.
- 3:36And there was a huge rhinestone gathering brooch in the middle
- 3:40of the chest. It was a choice.
- 3:44Sounds delightful. It was a choice.
- 3:47She might as well have been wearing a like weird prom dress
- 3:50over a long sleeve shirt. There is something weird when
- 3:53you're wearing the same colors.
- 3:54They either have to match or contrast enough where it's an
- 3:57intentional thing, you know? And Robyn's No, she's not really
- 4:16usual here. Well, we're having these moments
- 4:20and they're having these back and forths.
- 4:22There's also footage of Kody running home to home.
- 4:25You know, he's so happy now that they're at the Plig de SAC.
- 4:29He talks about running back and forth to these homes and how it
- 4:32has been working out his gluteus maximus, which gives him
- 4:36a wonderful opportunity to get up off the couch, bend over and
- 4:40slap his dairy air as the wives are going.
- 4:44No, please stop. No, don't do it.
- 4:46And I was pretty happy about it because, well, I don't know if I
- 4:50It was just a funny moment. Was it funny?
- 4:53It was a moment. Very Kody moment, he says.
- 4:56The Sprint is really developing my gluteus maximus.
- 5:00The Sprint, the. Sprint.
- 5:03OK, developing his gluteus maximus.
- 5:08Yes, and some foreshadowing. He hasn't spent too much time
- 5:10running around his own home because he doesn't know where
- 5:13some of the basic features are
- 5:17in the same space on each one of
- 5:19know, customize a blueprint home, so.
- 5:21And I would argue that one of the things he cannot find later
- 5:24is something that every man in
- 5:29it's at in their house. Oh, are you threatening his
- 5:32status in the manosphere? I appreciate that.
- 5:36He can't grill a steak and he doesn't know where this very
- 5:39important part of the houses. I know where it is in people's
- 5:43homes I don't even live in because I'm just a competent
- 5:46person, but you know. Because God forbid a serial
- 5:49killer come and cut your power
- 5:52You need to know that. You need to know, you need to.
- 5:56There's a voice over over this
- 5:59as we're transitioning into the start of the episode, and
- 6:02Christine says, I thought when
- 6:05would be almost magical Pixie dust and we'd all be happy.
- 6:09I was like, why does it have to be magical Pixie dust?
- 6:12Christine? Why?
- 6:15I just, I'm just getting more and more respect for her every
- 6:18episode. I'm imagining a tiny little
- 6:20piggy piggy fairy flying over the cul-de-sac and glittering it
- 6:25with magical Pixie dust, trying to save them from their own
- 6:29demise. It's very magical, really.
- 6:32Kody talks about the goals of their upcoming family commitment
- 6:35ceremony and cue some flashbacks
- 6:39the last episode. Awkward scenes.
- 6:42And I think you referenced something about how he might not
- 6:46have even been saying commitment
- 6:49He doesn't even come out and say
- 6:52We find out that Sedona, this marriage retreat happened one
- 6:56month ago. So we get a little timeline here
- 7:01and they don't come out and say commitment ceremony.
- 7:06They're being very obtuse about it, which is funny because they
- 7:10ended the tell all very bluntly saying that this was going to
- 7:15happen. And they ended the marriage
- 7:18retreat and went into the marriage retreat by saying it
- 7:21was all leading up to this very important thing for their
- 7:26family, the commitment ceremony.
- 7:27So why they don't come out and just say that again?
- 7:32Weird choice. Yeah, I wonder if there's a tie
- 7:34in to the notion that this was supposed to be a difference.
- 7:37There's something about the Tell Hall in the middle of the
- 7:41season, and why aren't they just saying there's a commitment
- 7:43ceremony coming up? Because we already know it and
- 7:52But that's what he all he says about it because they're going
- 8:01still feel so separate. The adults feel so separate.
- 8:05The kids have acclimated and adjusted to living close again,
- 8:08but not the adults. Yeah, there's a transition from
- 8:12these flashbacks to the marriage retreat, the awkward
- 8:15scenes that took place during this marriage retreat.
- 8:19And then they're on the couch and it's like we are in real
- 8:23time now. We just have been brought to
- 8:25current day. Kody kind of comes hot out the
- 8:32you all even crave each other's company?
- 8:33Was this off of something? Was did I miss something?
- 8:37No, they kind of were just each giving their spiel about how
- 8:41they feel now that they're in the homes.
- 8:44And Christine says she thought magic Pixie dust was going to
- 8:47fix it. Meri says.
- 8:49Well, things just aren't going to change unless we really want
- 8:53it to. Janelle flashback, find being
- 8:57separate, find where I'm at. I'm here, I'm here.
- 9:02And so Kody says, do we crave each other's company?
- 9:07Do we crave being around each other?
- 9:10And Christine says, it makes me really sad.
- 9:14This is not what I wanted. Good Lord.
- 9:17And when she's saying these things in these couch moments,
- 9:25tears, if not tears welling up in her eyes.
- 9:28And this family is so bizarre because they're all just kind
- 9:31of, well, Janelle, of course, is just staring off into the
- 9:34distance like she does, But everyone else is kind of just
- 9:37glancing around, looking like maybe they care a little bit,
- 9:40but no one's saying anything or doing anything.
- 9:43Yet Christine and Robyn have coordinated outfits.
- 9:46Robyn's wearing her blue get up and Christine is wearing a ombre
- 10:14Christine feeling blue? Maybe there's?
- 10:16I don't know if it's maybe they've been trying to do some
- 10:21But I did notice that those two were coordinating.
- 10:25After Christine has this confession about being really
- 10:29sad in her life, Janelle tries to reassure her, I guess by
- 10:33saying the good thing is we're all going to recommit to each
- 10:36other and that's a cool thing. Christine says it's a good goal
- 10:41and while she says it's a good goal, she looks like she's
- 10:45possessed, like the devil and a nut job.
- 10:48Like your youngest son looks at me when I enter a room and he
- 10:51gets this possessed look in his face and it's like, Oh my God,
- 10:57And that was Christine just being like, it's a good go.
- 11:00I'm like, Oh my God, what are you doing?
- 11:02He looks from under his eyebrows just that Chris with this snake
- 11:06eye look. It's so ridiculous and he only
- 11:10Only I don't know what it is. It freaks.
- 11:12Me. He knows it fucks with you.
- 11:14He thinks it's so funny and he's only 2 1/2 and he thinks it's
- 11:18hilarious to mess with you. It is weird 'cause it's like he
- 11:20did it once and I don't know if it was an accident or something
- 11:23and he noticed. It was the reaction.
- 11:25My reaction? I was like, don't lie, like I
- 11:28can't look at him, but then I have to look at him 'cause he's
- 11:30looking at me like he's needs an exorcism.
- 11:32The worst part about this is we've had you take family photos
- 11:36So during the family photos, yeah, it was hard to get him to
- 11:41not do the demon look the entire session, which is just
- 11:45fucking wonderful as a mother. That is funny, Christine tells
- 11:58I do like the term crucial conversations.
- 12:01I suspect I know Christine's a bit of a reader, or at least she
- 12:07more, you know, Pixies and half animal, half humans having sex
- 12:14she's reading, but there is a book that I read because of work
- 12:22It kind of walks you through how to have crucial conversations
- 12:25and how to manage your own ups and downs and feelings as you're
- 12:31So for her to use that, I mean, I say it when I'm talking about
- 12:35crucial conversations. I'm like, this is a crucial
- 12:37conversation because it's important to declare that this
- 12:42was like, she didn't just pull that up out of nowhere, I don't
- 12:44think. Can we copyright that for a
- 12:47future band name? Crucial conversations.
- 12:49Some sort of emo band where I get to be Gwen Stefani like No
- 12:59to say how old you are for our listeners, but I think you might
- 13:06I'm going to ask Christine to be part of my band, Crucial
- 13:12Conversations. You guys are just girls in the
- 13:16God damn, especially you manosphere men.
- 13:19Well, the reason that Christine is talking about crucial
- 13:22conversations is because we are going to be talking about Leon
- 13:32Hot off the heels of the last episode where we were talking
- 13:36about, you know, how is it that you have not been on the same
- 13:40page about this? You have literally 17 children.
- 13:42Let's assume some of them are
- 13:44going to go to college. You're going to have to talk
- 13:47about this. So especially since Leon's
- 13:50tuition is going to be so much
- 13:53far, I thought, you know, Kody, these comments just make you
- 13:56sound so smart. Everyone else is.
- 13:58So far, you only have one kid in
- 14:01If you're just comparing Leon's situation to Aspen, OK, I'll
- 14:04give you some grace. But the way he was phrasing it
- 14:07makes it seem like everyone else
- 14:10expectations for college. And then there's Leon.
- 14:12Out of control, Leon. And it's finally time to discuss
- 14:16this with Leon and Aspen going
- 14:19already have a child in college.
- 14:22Now we're finally discussing it as the tuition is probably
- 14:26coming due. OK.
- 14:29You guys are so smart. Great planning.
- 14:31Meri says that she's been comparing Westminster to UNLV
- 14:37and Westminster is $28,000 per year and UNLV is 7400 a year.
- 14:46With no scholarships, she makes sure to point out and a detail
- 14:53parents, so all the adults have gathered that I don't know if
- 14:57it's Christine's house, I don't know where they are, but they're
- 15:02conversation. And when Meri's talking about
- 15:06reviewing Westminster versus UNLV tuitions, she says, oh, I
- 15:11And I'm like, you were looking last night.
- 15:13We just saw this last episode, how you were almost, I don't
- 15:18know, She was yelling at Kody, talking loudly at Kody, being
- 15:22like, I have been doing these things and blah, blah, blah.
- 15:25And it's like, I hope that when you say you were looking last
- 15:27night, you were looking at UNLV's tuition, which we later
- 15:34Meri's numbers. But who knows?
- 15:35The it's just like, what do you mean you were just looking last
- 15:38night? I thought you were helping Leon
- 15:40with this for, you know, a long time.
- 15:42Yeah, she calls out Kody and says you haven't been here for
- 15:48conversations, talking about Leon and her discussing it
- 15:51together and where's Kody been? And you're just looking last
- 15:56night, right? That's an easy thing to do
- 16:00without scholarships, OK? Leon has a $10,000 scholarship,
- 16:05so $18,000 a year. OK.
- 16:08Do you know if most scholarships are something that you get for
- 16:14It might be a one time thing and you can reapply, I'm not sure.
- 16:26I only received one scholarship when I went to school and it was
- 16:31McDonald's scholarship or something.
- 16:32And it was a one time thing, so I don't.
- 16:35I'm unsure if this $10,000 one is annual and I highly doubt it.
- 16:42I don't think it is. Yeah, Kody says that he will not
- 16:45advocate for any of his children
- 16:50He views it as slavery. We know most graduates will not
- 16:55have a career based on their programs or majors.
- 16:58This is why I will not support
- 17:02They push it like crazy because this is a debt backed society.
- 17:09You know, you can't disagree with all of his points, but I
- 17:14just do not understand what parents think people are going
- 17:17to do to pay for college when they don't have an education.
- 17:20It just doesn't make any sense.
- 17:22Kody says statistically most kids don't get a job in their
- 17:26major or field. OK, statistically, I want to see
- 17:34wrong. He's not.
- 17:35But you know, he hasn't looked this up.
- 17:37You know, he's pulling this out of his ass and using words like
- 17:42statistically and debt based society and your major and field
- 17:52situation. Because Robyn says, well, when
- 17:58And he says, and they gloss over this.
- 18:01He says not if they want support from me.
- 18:04What does not supporting mean What you're currently doing?
- 18:06By not supporting I mean I don't know if he means a gift of
- 18:09money. Like if they're planning on
- 18:11giving some money, it sounds like they might be covering
- 18:15Logan's tuition and housing. Janelle is right now for sure.
- 18:20So I see once again they don't have a plan, so we don't know
- 18:24what The thing is. It gives me vibes of if you get
- 18:27a piercing when you're in college, I'm cutting you off.
- 18:29I'll stop paying for your college except for him.
- 18:32It's if you take out a student loan while I'm helping pay for
- 18:39Make it make sense. They're trying to fund their
- 18:43college education, Sir. Well, This is why I was, I mean
- 18:47asking about Logan's college because Kody asks Janelle what
- 19:00but $6500 for housing and tuition.
- 19:03So when Meri's saying 7400, I'm curious if that's just website
- 19:10number of credits and maybe Logan's taking less credits or
- 19:16winter semester and maybe Meri's quote was for an entire year.
- 19:21So I'm guessing this with housing and his total so far
- 19:27this year is that semester including housing 6500 and a
- 19:33spring semester without housing and total semesters together
- 19:38would be 7400. Does that make sense because
- 19:40it's got to cost extra for the housing?
- 19:42So this is just a portion of the year they're discussing for him?
- 19:49which would probably be a whole year for tuition and housing
- 19:52so. But they're not even clear on
- 19:54it. And we're sitting here and we're
- 20:01deadbeat losers, but intelligent deadbeat losers.
- 20:04Oh, don't You are wearing glasses right now?
- 20:08Maybe, but this is because of your vision.
- 20:09You know you can't really see. God, don't quote me on saying
- 20:16that we're intelligent. Please don't.
- 20:17Please do not do that. But come on, how have you not
- 20:21done this already? It's so simple.
- 20:24I go, I don't. Get it?
- 20:26Unfortunately, there's some conclusions we could draw easily
- 20:32drugged through more conversation.
- 20:33They talk about how Aspen has a car and Leon doesn't currently.
- 20:39And Christine says on campus would Leon need a car?
- 20:44And Meri says, I am not sending Leon to Utah without a car,
- 20:49right? So this conversation's coming
- 20:52up. We haven't spent money on Leon
- 20:56for a car yet. So we have to factor into Leon's
- 20:59tuition a car on top of it. Aspen has a car.
- 21:05So they're trying to parse out
- 21:08here, including car in tuition.
- 21:11Does Leon really need a car in Utah?
- 21:16Probably not. There's a lot of carpooling that
- 21:23getting rides to and from places from your dormitory.
- 21:27I remember my sister doing that freshman year.
- 21:30My sister wasn't even allowed to have a car on campus.
- 21:34You had to live on campus your first year.
- 21:37You couldn't be an off. Student.
- 21:40Housing. Yeah.
- 21:41And I believe a car was one of the things you weren't allowed
- 21:52allowed to have a car their first year at college?
- 21:56Yeah, In high school, you had to
- 21:58in your first year because they allowed priority for people
- 22:01that were in sophomore, sophomore.
- 22:03Junior, Sophomore. Junior.
- 22:06But yeah, like we're. Intelligent.
- 22:07Yeah, this is the one thing I can see about why Meri would
- 22:12want to advocate for it is that it isn't local.
- 22:16So for Leon to be in the northern end of a state, you
- 22:21know, I don't know how many hours of a drive it is, but it's
- 22:26So I don't know if that would mean more flights, you know, if
- 22:29it's close to so I don't know where Westminster is, but if
- 22:32it's close to Salt Lake City, then why wouldn't you fly back
- 22:39we'll find out throughout the show she loves.
- 22:41This bitch has spent so much time in a car it's insane.
- 22:44But it's not unreasonable for a first year college student to go
- 22:54Kody even says I'm not spending an overindulgent amount on
- 22:59Leon's tuition over Aspen, and he doesn't even say on Leon's
- 23:03tuition. He says on Leon over Aspen.
- 23:07So he's already overindulgent the use of that word.
- 23:12Yeah, it aligns with some of our vibes and feels from some recent
- 23:22Remind them they are not the only fucking child, even though
- 23:26they are in Meri's house. Yeah, that leads to the next
- 23:29part of this conversation that gets a little contentious.
- 23:33Kody says that perhaps Meri should take more out of her
- 23:39budget towards Leon's college tuition.
- 23:41This starts to get heated. He says this is a six kids
- 23:50versus one situation and you can tell he's leading with
- 23:54compassion. He doesn't want to bring up the
- 23:57fact that Meri only has one child, but that is the reality
- 24:05nester situation and one versus 6 when it comes to funding a
- 24:11household is just completely different and Meri starts
- 24:15getting defensive immediately. I know that.
- 24:18Robyn even says, I think she knows that, yeah, and stands up
- 24:23for her. This is where Kody says the line
- 24:29if they're going into debt for paying for college.
- 24:31And it's like, OK, well, whatever, Kody.
- 24:34He says we will find a way if our children will start making a
- 24:41Oh, God. And now here comes Robyn.
- 24:44You know what? Robyn's also intelligent.
- 24:46What are the other options? And then she starts putting up
- 24:54Parents funding, school financial aid, scholarships and
- 24:58student loans. Those are the four options.
- 25:02No, Honeywell, you're a detective.
- 25:04What's going on with this list? How can we break it apart?
- 25:08It's so funny to me because if I were to classify this, I would
- 25:16student loans are pretty much kind of one in the same in my
- 25:21mind. And then parents being able to
- 25:28I get where she's coming from here.
- 25:30I can't drag her for it. I really can't.
- 25:34Yeah, I mean, she's doing the noble thing.
- 25:36She's doing the right thing by pointing out there's only so
- 25:39many ways that you can pay for college, unless it's us or
- 25:45scholarships. That means, you know, probably
- 25:52off, particularly her and Kody, Meri and Kody, they are not
- 25:57broke enough to qualify for the financial aid that Robyn's
- 26:00probably pointing out here. You know, Pell grants and other
- 26:03things. I mean, I shouldn't say that
- 26:05they're not. Maybe, you know, they are used
- 26:09Who knows, maybe they could figure it out.
- 26:12But I, you know, it looks like there's only so many options
- 26:14here. And and I'm going to give Robyn
- 26:17kudos for backing up Leon here. We talked about this briefly
- 26:23before about how eventually Meri gets a divorce from Kody to
- 26:29adopt Robyn's children and why wasn't it discussed beforehand
- 26:39situation. And it only comes up when it
- 26:42comes and is pertinent to Robyn and her situation and why she
- 26:46needs to be married to him. I don't know.
- 26:49I do find it a little odd that they haven't had this
- 26:53conversation previously, especially with being married to
- 26:59It's just an odd conversation to be having for the first time and
- 27:08that I can think of right now is that Robyn has multiple
- 27:12children. So if Kody marries Robyn, then
- 27:24would be another complication. If it really is a marriage born
- 27:29out of religion and commitment, why does he need to be married
- 27:37Yeah, he could just be divorcing Meri.
- 27:38You're not advocating for him to marry Robyn, Just divorce Meri.
- 27:42Totally.
- 27:43That makes sense. And Kody says again, well,
- 27:46there's another option. A job that pays well, hinting
- 27:51that the child should get a job that pays well while they're in
- 27:54school. And I agree with what Robyn says
- 27:57next. Robyn says that school is your
- 28:00job. When you're a student, school is
- 28:02your job. You should be focused on school.
- 28:05OK. So we're talking about a $28,000
- 28:08tuition base tuition. You're supposed to have a
- 28:12$28,000 cost as an uncollege educated 18 year old.
- 28:17Let's say going out of high out of high school.
- 28:20You're supposed to attend these classes probably full time and
- 28:24have $28,000 in your budget annually for tuition.
- 28:28This is idiotic. I I don't even know what it
- 28:30means. Most people if you made $100,000
- 28:33a year you would have a hard time paying for a $28,000
- 28:36expense. So I don't even know what that
- 28:38means. No college education.
- 28:40So what is Leon's? What's supposed to do here for a
- 28:43job that pays well to put themselves through school?
- 28:48It's just a logical that's why
- 28:51so that they can get a job that pays well.
- 28:53And there's an unfortunately large number of people that
- 28:56don't make a lot of money after going through college.
- 28:58So it's just the logic is lost
- 29:03Yeah. And now we're going to cut to
- 29:05the couch where Christine brings
- 29:09makes sense. And this is where I was jumping
- 29:11to earlier, but we had to go through all this other bullshit
- 29:13first is that they could probably put aside a bit for
- 29:16each child, but then the children need to work and get
- 29:20scholarships for the rest of their 'cause this to me makes
- 29:23sense. So let's say you're looking at
- 29:25someone like Logan and you're saying, OK, this year we know
- 29:27we're going to spend 10 grand on
- 29:30going to gift Logan $10,000 for some reason, whatever.
- 29:33Then when your next child comes up, you give them $10,000.
- 29:37Let's say you can't afford it and you do 5002 thousand.
- 29:39My parents did give me a fucking
- 29:41So, you know, whatever, whatever
- 29:44aside for each child. You give them that money and say
- 29:46the rest is on you. Sorry Bob, you're in the real
- 29:49world now. You're a grown up so you got to
- 29:50figure it out. And you know, hopefully you
- 29:52would approach it with more compassion.
- 29:54And I would argue with Co signing for student loans, but
- 29:58that's my own opinion. You approach each child the same
- 30:01way with a certain gift that you've set aside for each child
- 30:04and that's how you do it. That's what I would do.
- 30:06Yeah, almost like a dowry for a marriage that people set aside
- 30:10for their daughters and marriage.
- 30:11Oh geez. Don't worry, no.
- 30:15Christine says we have 17 kids, you have to work your butt off
- 30:20for scholarships. This is reality.
- 30:23When they turn 18, they're going
- 30:26I'm sorry, but it's true in her Christine way of saying things,
- 30:31and I agree. Should you be having this
- 30:34conversation just when they turn
- 30:36Probably not. Should you be having it their
- 30:39junior year through senior year of high school?
- 30:42Probably preparing them for the reality of the situation.
- 30:46And I do give them props because
- 30:50college courses as a junior in high school.
- 30:54So Mckelty has all of these, to be quite frank, stupid and
- 30:59meaningless classes under her belt that she's not going to
- 31:02have to pay out the ass for in
- 31:05high school for her. These are the things you should
- 31:08have been thinking about ahead
- 31:12children to do. And it's still strange.
- 31:14I know we're stuck on this and
- 31:16going, when are they even going to move on to the next thing?
- 31:19But Logan is already in school.
- 31:22We have a child in college and we are just having these
- 31:26conversations about other children.
- 31:27It's like when Logan went to school, did Janelle just say,
- 31:29oh, it's going to cost this much?
- 31:31And Kody said cool. And they never talked about it
- 31:35trigger to have the conversation?
- 31:36Especially since you have 16 other fucking kids.
- 31:39They push everything off, they do the easy way until they're
- 31:43fucked and have to deal with it head on.
- 31:45Look at the debt. Look at Robyn having to deal
- 31:48with her credit card debt before getting financing.
- 31:50She waited till the last goddamn minute.
- 31:52Two weeks. It was outrageous.
- 31:55So Meri didn't even get her house on time because she didn't
- 31:59Do we expect it to be any different when it comes to their
- 32:05Guess not. They get Leon to come over to
- 32:08the house to join the conversation.
- 32:11So we get a little bit about Leon here and why this is so
- 32:18important to Leon. Meri asks can you explain to us
- 32:24why? Why this is what you need?
- 32:28Leading Leon to tell their sob story and basically give them
- 32:32the guilt trip as to why they need to fund the schooling for
- 32:43want to be by my church and faith.
- 32:47I've been missing out for two years.
- 32:51I want to be in a place where people want sister wives like me
- 32:59I know it's a lot of money, but I, I don't know what to do when
- 33:05Leon arrived in the family room.
- 33:08I think it's important to note
- 33:09Robyn asks, You know, I was wondering, if we can't afford
- 33:13Westminster, would you be open
- 33:17So Robyn's trying to open up this alternative dialogue.
- 33:22And Leon says, I'm not staying
- 33:25And I just think it's important to state that because Leon has
- 33:30this adamacy that this is what
- 33:36alternatives, which is understandable when you think
- 33:40about being a young adult. When I was a senior in high
- 33:42school, I knew what the fuck I
- 33:44what anybody was saying to me.
- 33:46But it's just important to point
- 33:50watching Leon isn't being like, I'm going to sit here and, you
- 33:53know, really lean into what's going on.
- 33:55Leon's being like, this is what I'm doing.
- 33:57And yeah, I'll sit here and tell
- 34:00doing. So prefacing this sob story
- 34:03about wanting to be with their
- 34:07statement, you feel like this is
- 34:11well. There was enough pauses and
- 34:13enough gathering thoughts that I think it backs up their
- 34:18rationale and probably is a part of the picture.
- 34:21But I also think there might be other things happening in Leon's
- 34:29self discovery. I don't like what's going on
- 34:33here, but what's to like? Yeah, this whole spiel and the
- 34:40faith. I've been missing out for two
- 34:43years. It feels performative.
- 34:47Yeah. Especially like you said after
- 34:53Yeah. Yeah, it.
- 34:55You're right. There's.
- 34:55Some spoiled brat thing going on here, which we've experienced
- 34:58over and over again with Leon. But you know, Meri does come to
- 35:02Leon's aid by saying that she's not going to give up on making
- 35:08OK, then she's a mom. That's great.
- 35:10What I love is that Janelle hops right on and agrees and says
- 35:14we're going to do whatever we can to make this happen.
- 35:16And I thought that was great because Janelle does take the
- 35:20option regularly of just sitting there and staring and doing
- 35:24whatever. And I thought it was really
- 35:26great that Janelle, well, you know, she does always support
- 35:28the education like we talked about, at least in her talking
- 35:33Christine says we'll figure it
- 35:35out before you go so you don't
- 35:38you're at school. You only have to stress about
- 35:41your grades. Kody makes some dumb ass comment
- 35:45about how there's a common denominator here.
- 35:48These are all my kids. Really.
- 35:52Yeah, we're all a family. We're all their parents and we
- 35:56will all do whatever is necessary to get them there.
- 36:01Except for cosign on student loans.
- 36:03Yeah. All right.
- 36:05OK, Turkey. Now I'm recognizing I've got a,
- 36:08you know, fair and balanced right over here.
- 36:11It is a lot of people to cosign for loans for.
- 36:14So that is another thing, you know, it's not like he can
- 36:17cosign for 17 people's college, you know, debt.
- 36:21If he was just spiritually and
- 36:25mothers, the moms could cosign
- 36:28There you go. He wouldn't have to worry about
- 36:30it, He. Wouldn't have to sign a damn
- 36:32thing if he didn't want to. If he was really smart.
- 36:35Right, he. Really wanted to work the
- 36:38system. Oh.
- 36:39Kody. I don't think he would even be
- 36:42able to close sign on all the Student Loans.
- 36:44They wouldn't allow it, no. He wouldn't get approved on a
- 36:48certain number of the loans. So, yeah, PLC pays some bills.
- 36:52And then we have a seamless transition to Kody telling us
- 36:55about his four mother in Mothers
- 37:07He says this so many times during the episode and each time
- 37:11I'm cringing. It's like nails on a chalkboard.
- 37:14Mothers in law I. Know I'm going is it incorrect
- 37:18or not because I've never heard of mothers in law.
- 37:22Would it be mother in laws? I I just don't even know how you
- 37:26would phrase it. I've never heard anyone talk
- 37:28about their multiple mother in
- 37:29Well, the mothers would be plural.
- 37:31Yeah, so mothers in law. Mothers in law.
- 37:33I guess it's just weird to hear.
- 37:34It's no Meri, Meri quite contrary or sob, and Robyn does
- 37:38not roll off the tongue. Like Piggy Piggy Tootsie
- 37:43Tootsie's. Clearly, that rolled off my
- 37:46tongue. Oh my.
- 37:50God, Oh no. So of course we talk about each
- 37:52of the wives, mothers. So we get introduced to
- 37:54everyone. Some of them we've been
- 37:56introduced, so we're being reintroduced.
- 37:57We start with Meri's mother, Bonnie.
- 38:00She's telling Hunter how muscly he's gotten and squeezing
- 38:04Hunter's muscles and giving him the little Gucci goo grandma
- 38:08thing. It's pretty cute and he's
- 38:11blushing and Christine says that whenever they've wanted
- 38:15something out of Kody, they've all gone to Bonnie to get it out
- 38:23wanted. I love it.
- 38:25That was adorable little tidbit. His first mother-in-law, I think
- 38:32read or whatever, you know, he really did have a fondness for
- 38:39They were young, who knows, but her parents were influential in
- 38:43the cult and he really looked up to them.
- 38:46And so it is cute that Bonnie kind of has a little thumb on
- 38:50him or whatever you'd want to say, you know?
- 38:52Yeah. Have you ever had a relationship
- 38:57than the person you're with and it's hard to break up with them
- 39:01because you know you're breaking up with their family
- 39:02too? I have not spent a lot of time
- 39:04with anybody's family that I've been dating, so I haven't
- 39:07haven't had that experience, but
- 39:09happening. I wonder how this plays out for
- 39:12Kody after things start going South because he does seem to
- 39:18have an affinity for Bonnie so
- 39:23out. I have had a few relationships
- 39:26where I was sad to be cut off from the family, but you know,
- 39:32it is what it is. It comes with the territory of
- 39:35loving and hurting and. It's never stopped you from
- 39:37violating A protective order before.
- 39:46Robyn tells us that Bonnie has a
- 39:50marriage and has always been a
- 39:53She's so. Solid in her faith, we get to
- 39:57Janelle's mom and Janelle tells us how her mom has always been
- 40:02the nurse mom of the family. She could always count on her if
- 40:06one of her children was sick or if she needed a remedy for a
- 40:11child. And Cheryl is the nurse mommy of
- 40:14the family. She must have been the one that
- 40:17taught them to, you know, boil
- 40:20honey for when you're sick or something.
- 40:22No, yeah, Cheryl, you dirty dog.
- 40:26We hear a little back story again about how Cheryl married
- 40:39So as an older adult and married Cheryl before Janelle and him
- 40:43got married, right? But they're not siblings, OK?
- 40:47They're trying to call out the fact that they're not siblings.
- 40:52They weren't like young children
- 40:54living together as step siblings
- 40:56Something, Yeah, OK, we we get
- 41:03Moving on. Yeah.
- 41:05Friendly reminder that Cheryl went up to try to convince
- 41:08Janelle to not join the cult, Don't do this and then met Wynn,
- 41:13Kody's dad, and married him. So she went in to try to put a
- 41:18kibosh to it. Which also does not make sense
- 41:20because Janelle was married to
- 41:23So it none of it makes any sense.
- 41:25But the take away we're supposed
- 41:27incestuous at all that Kody married his step sister Janelle.
- 41:32Little bit of a Beauty and the
- 41:35went up there to try to save, save her daughter and look how
- 41:40it turned out and then her. Daughter turned into a hairy
- 41:42beast. Oh no, her daughter was a hairy.
- 41:44Beast and then. Turned into a beautiful Kody
- 41:48looking man Oh God. Speaking of Disney, we've got an
- 41:51update about Christine's mom, Annie.
- 41:54Annie's coming. Janelle tells us that Annie is
- 41:58great to talk to you because she's always uplifting, she's
- 42:01always positive. But unfortunately, Christine has
- 42:05some complicated feelings when
- 42:08and at least a complicated history.
- 42:11She tells us that when she was
- 42:15their cult. Even though Annie did leave, she
- 42:18still supports their family today though, so that's great.
- 42:21We're going to get some more details about that later.
- 42:24Unlike Annie's sister, or well, I don't know if we know which
- 42:27sister, It is Christine's aunt
- 42:30mom's. No, it is her mom's sister.
- 42:32Mom's sister who said that she
- 42:35Kristen. Yes, we haven't heard that
- 42:38language. No, we have not.
- 42:41We get to meet Robyn's beautiful
- 42:45Oh, beautiful. Alice has been a first and a
- 42:50second wife. She left Robyn's bio dad for her
- 42:54new dad who she claims, so she
- 43:00the family as far as dynamics go.
- 43:03Oh, of course. She's so understanding now that
- 43:06she's married to Robyn's step daddy.
- 43:08Uncle, when you said that Alice was beautiful, I agreed with
- 43:13you. Yeah, she's really something.
- 43:16She's a knockout. Stunning.
- 43:18I was stunned by her beauty. This whole introduction to the
- 43:23moms had me thinking, Christine's mom Annie looks
- 43:31amazing compared to these other women and she's the one that
- 43:35got out. Well, she is the one that got
- 43:37out. She's the one that got away,
- 43:39Yeah. She looks the youngest, she
- 43:41looks the hippest, she looks the
- 43:45She does look like the one that spent the most time in a
- 43:48tanning bed. True.
- 43:50But I agree with you overall, she's the one that you would
- 43:53probably gravitate to as like you're a normal person or
- 43:56someone. You're a cool grandma.
- 43:58You're not right. This.
- 44:00Homely looking, quintessential.
- 44:01What you think of when you think of a granny grandma.
- 44:06I don't. From a polygamous cult.
- 44:08Well, right, and I'm not trying to say that super derogatorily
- 44:18cult that they belong to, you know?
- 44:20Yeah, the vibes be vibing, and she's got more of the hippy,
- 44:25dippy, earthy vibes, as Kody would say.
- 44:28Kody would say that. We get introduced to Janelle
- 44:31again. We've met her previously.
- 44:35Janelle has 10 biological children born of her own womb,
- 44:48All the other mothers in law are
- 44:51coming for the weekend, and so
- 44:54And I just wanted to point out
- 44:58even though you're might be struggling with how the hell is
- 45:00that spelled? I believe it's GENIELLEI don't
- 45:05know. It's hard to, you know, decipher
- 45:07what's going on on the screen when you're blinded by Alice's
- 45:10beauty. But there's no whys.
- 45:12And I just wanted to point that out because you might be
- 45:14thinking, how does the why fit
- 45:16There's no whys. There's no whys.
- 45:18Some of these names, when I am
- 45:22write them incorrectly because
- 45:26if I don't write it the way I would imagine it to be written.
- 45:30Yes, I wrote Janelle in at least
- 45:34going to hear, like how many ES?
- 45:35Where are the ES? Yeah, it's a whole thing.
- 45:39Kody lets us know that on Sunday morning he will be making brunch
- 45:48He makes a comment about anyone asking for quiche.
- 45:53He's not sure if they'll get a quiche, but he would try.
- 45:58One of the activities that's going to be happening on this
- 46:02Mother's Day weekend is that Kody is hoping to take his four
- 46:06mothers in law, along with his own mother, Janelle, shopping
- 46:10for gifts for his beautiful wives.
- 46:13Oh God. What I also love about this
- 46:19journey into retail heaven is that Kody talks about how he has
- 46:32So he technically has eight mothers in law.
- 46:36God this plig math is tough take.
- 46:39That as. You I know, right?
- 46:42Ridiculous. OK, so.
- 46:44They're spending it, presumably with their biological children.
- 46:48As well.
- 46:50He makes some tasteless jokes about how he has buddies who
- 46:56hate their one mother-in-law, but he loves all of his equally.
- 47:03No, no, no, he would never tell us if he has a favorite or a
- 47:07least favorite. Never.
- 47:10It wasn't the dumbest thing he's
- 47:12dumb. Cut to Kody and his four mother
- 47:16in law's mothers in law and his mom entering a small scale
- 47:22Hobby Lobby looking store. They love that store.
- 47:27They love the vibes of these kind of stores.
- 47:29We have seen many scenes shot in
- 47:34very store. A tic tac Knick knack type of
- 47:37store. Faddy wack, give a dog a bone.
- 47:39Yeah, it's what you imagine when
- 47:46A lot of wood, a lot of faux barn looking decor and
- 47:53charcuterie. Charcuterie, fake plants, fake
- 47:59every. Just everything is.
- 48:00Yeah, Hobby Lobby meets the corner store.
- 48:04I feel like every small town has
- 48:09not going to lie, when I go to a
- 48:16ass through these stores as well.
- 48:18Yeah, it's a little downtown area.
- 48:20Yeah, yeah, I usually find something I don't fucking need
- 48:33absolutely do or do not get my way so.
- 48:37This was before the days of Joanna Gaines.
- 48:40Now today, it would be like Magnolia RIP off shit
- 48:44everywhere. That's what it would be.
- 48:45That's the vibe. True, true.
- 48:47This is a store of its era. Yes, it probably looks how the
- 48:57that's been donated like this. Yeah, totally.
- 49:00Yeah. Kody says it's a treacherous
- 49:04experience shopping for his wives.
- 49:06He talks about comparison being the killer of joy and giving
- 49:11gifts for his wives. Understandable.
- 49:13If you had four spouses to buy a gift for it, they probably would
- 49:21give it. It is what it is.
- 49:22You've got 4 fucking wives and
- 49:25Day gifts. I'm going to have something to
- 49:26say about that later. Oh.
- 49:28OK. He sees this ugly ass clock that
- 49:34looks like it's supposed to be
- 49:39hanging clock. No no no.
- 49:41It looks like a corner store sign hanging off of a wall.
- 49:46It's got a mount that makes it
- 49:50hang like a sign and it. Reminds me of almost like a
- 49:55light on a post. Like an outdoor light, but
- 49:58instead of there being a light, there's a clock.
- 50:00Is ugly as sin, and he says that
- 50:05He likes it a lot and he's going
- 50:08He is going to pick a wife to give this clock to instead of
- 50:11picking an individual gift for
- 50:15likes this clock so much. So he starts asking each of the
- 50:19mother-in-law mothers in laws.
- 50:23Mothers in law. Would this be something that
- 50:27Christine would like? Would this be something Robyn
- 50:31would like? We're going to move on.
- 50:34This fucking clock comes back up
- 50:36OK, yes it does. So moving on from this ugly ass
- 50:39clock for now, he moves on to his next thing, his next find.
- 50:44Yes. What is it?
- 50:45Kody comes around the corner because of course this place has
- 50:49to have like, rooms slash faux
- 50:52Whatever. There's doorways, so he comes
- 50:54around the corner with a sign in
- 50:58for Janelle, perhaps. So he's glancing at Cheryl and
- 51:02he shows her mom. Look at this sign and it says I
- 51:07kiss better than I cook. Now you would think it should
- 51:11say I kiss better than I cook,
- 51:15THENI cook and I'm going Oh my
- 51:21that made the sign is clever enough for it to be a play on
- 51:24words like you kiss and then you
- 51:27I kiss better than I cook. If there was a comma in there,
- 51:32then I would be like, yeah, that
- 51:33But it just literally looks like
- 51:37seems to notice that this is misspelled.
- 51:40And it is insane to me. I do think that if I ever
- 51:45reproduced I would be like, I need to get them into the best
- 51:47polygamous school I can find because these people are fucking
- 51:51bright. Cheryl goes maybe Kody is like,
- 52:01it's just means I'm complimenting or kissing.
- 52:04I'm not insulting or cooking. I'm just saying her kissing is
- 52:07really good, yeah. It's an affirmation.
- 52:11Cheryl looks uncomfortable. Like I don't even know how to
- 52:16respond to this. Cheryl literally says in a
- 52:19one-on-one moment with the camera I don't feel at ease with
- 52:23the sign. What?
- 52:28I don't feel at ease with the sign.
- 52:31Yeah, she's not feeling at ease,
- 52:34actually knew it was misspelt.
- 52:36going. Kody, you can't be getting the
- 52:38sign because it doesn't make any
- 52:40Everyone is so uncomfortable and
- 52:45hard. It's just shut the fuck up.
- 52:47Yeah, shut up. Yeah, it was a hit and a miss.
- 52:50Nobody likes it, No. Not Kody.
- 52:52We're not smelling what you're stepping in this time.
- 52:54Move on. But this does give us an
- 52:57opportunity to hear from another mother-in-law, Bonnie.
- 52:59She says she's always loved Kody.
- 53:03You know, sure, he makes mistakes, but so do her other
- 53:07son in laws and she still loves them.
- 53:09As this is happening, they transitioned to him showing her
- 53:13a tall photo frame thing. Once again.
- 53:16It's the pieces of wood with word art and then some frames
- 53:20that you can put photos in. It's like 3 feet tall leaning
- 53:23against the wall. And I think it says a smile is
- 53:32best thing you can wear. OK, yeah, it's supposed to be
- 53:36alluding to whoever is reading the sign that their smile is the
- 53:43What a great gift for Meri ushering towards the sign and
- 53:48looking at Bonnie and she's telling us about how everyone
- 53:52makes mistakes but she still loves them.
- 53:54It's. Huge, by the way, it.
- 53:55Is really tall. It's like it it.
- 53:57Would come up to my nipples if I was standing next to it and it's
- 54:06Used barnwood and there's more than one photo frame in it, so
- 54:17Yeah, yeah. No one points out how it's
- 54:20nipple heighted while it's on the floor, but you know, I guess
- 54:26Kody goes back to looking at the fucking clock.
- 54:29It's rearing its ugly face again, the clock face.
- 54:34And Kody says, I think I'm going to get the clock for Robyn.
- 54:39And the moms have a visceral reaction to this.
- 54:43Well, very muted, but visceral. The moms don't think it's fair
- 54:58Only briefly, he says. Are you saying I need to keep
- 55:02equity with all things that I get for my wives?
- 55:05And his mother says, I think you need to be fair.
- 55:10He looks genuinely shocked. He hates when his wives compare
- 55:16things. Yeah.
- 55:17Oh, comparison is the thief of joy or something like that.
- 55:22He says this a lot, how he hates so much that brings out the
- 55:26devil in his wives when they compare things.
- 55:29Yeah. At this point in your marriages,
- 55:47Not when you've seen a clock on the wall that you really like,
- 55:55Well, he's going to be at her house the most, so he'll get to
- 55:58see the clock and it'll be his and.
- 56:00And she'll find the perfect place for it, I'm sure.
- 56:03Where he'll hit his forehead on it every morning when he walks
- 56:09After Janelle says I think you need to be fair, he literally
- 56:14responds with traitor my own mother, which I did think was
- 56:17pretty funny because I was like, oh, that's probably something
- 56:19I'd say to my mom, my own mother.
- 56:21His mom tells a story about how he was being disobedient as a
- 56:27child once and he wasn't listening and he was playing
- 56:31around on the furnace and he ended up burning his hands on
- 56:35the furnace because he was not listening and being disobedient.
- 56:42better now with a smirk. So he's defying his mother in
- 56:47this moment. He says I can't worry about what
- 56:51one wife will think when I'm buying for another wife.
- 56:54That wouldn't be fair to the one
- 56:58Which is just ass backwards compared to what he should
- 57:01really be thinking, right? We're talking about Mother's
- 57:05Day. You have 4 wives that are all
- 57:07mothers. You just gave all four of these
- 57:10wives hideous jewelry that was
- 57:13other. Now it's Mother's Day.
- 57:15How about you pick a theme, you pick a thing and you buy
- 57:18similar things for these wives.
- 57:19It's it's not like it's an anniversary or a birthday.
- 57:22I could see wanting to get something special of course, for
- 57:28your Broads, the broad Broads he got.
- 57:30You know what I mean? Like it just is what it is.
- 57:32Like get something. It's not the right time for him
- 57:35to be going. I'm thinking of something
- 57:37special. It's like you were thinking of
- 57:39That's the only reason you're even wrestling with this, you
- 57:42idiot. I would have turned it in.
- 57:45Let's make it all about me. You and all your wives, what
- 57:47would you have done for them? Thank you, thank you.
- 57:49What I would have done is I would have either asked the moms
- 57:59Be like, these are the two I'm thinking.
- 58:01Which one would you pick? Like, I would have turned it
- 58:04into some sort of activity, but you know, they're only there
- 58:06with a camera crew. They only have producers.
- 58:08This is obviously set up as a thing.
- 58:10Why would you make it fun? Why would you make it
- 58:13interesting? Instead, Kody gets to pick out a
- 58:18It just makes him look so stupid because if he would have done
- 58:21something like what you just said, it would have been cute.
- 58:26differences between the wives and why they're each so special.
- 58:31something that's meaningless to each of them and stupid and
- 58:35then one thing that he likes and try to fit it to one wife.
- 58:39He's so fucking self-centered and it just comes up again and
- 58:43again. And this is yet another example,
- 58:45and it's Mother's Day and you're
- 58:49Your mother's in law about their
- 58:53Buying gifts for It's just he's so he's such a narcissist.
- 58:58Christine's mom gets frustrated with him and she starts trying
- 59:01to force him to decide on what
- 59:06she starts counting down and as she gets down to 0 she goes
- 59:10loser and puts an L on her forehead with the shape of the L
- 59:16on her forehead with her hand and calls him a loser.
- 59:18Yes, after she does this 5 second countdown and 54321 while
- 59:27he's standing there like I don't
- 59:31without a brain. She calls him a loser, calls him
- 59:34a loser again, and then she goes, I'll give you one more
- 59:37chance to get that sign and she goes, we're done.
- 59:41And I actually thought that she was maybe implying that he
- 59:46should just pick the sign. You know, it's a little hard to.
- 59:49We didn't get the back story on this sign, but it just seemed
- 59:52like she was trying to coach him
- 59:56decision and he would not follow.
- 59:57He could not follow he. Stood there dumbly with a blank
- 1:00:00look on his face and this is when we get our favorite quote
- 1:00:08during this moment. You go for it.
- 1:00:10You go for it, darling. I was touched by an Angel in
- 1:00:13this moment. We cut to the couch after this
- 1:00:20God bless you, Annie. Love you, Annie.
- 1:00:22And Kody says I'm like, going crazy.
- 1:00:26Demons out, demons out. Oh God, demons out.
- 1:00:32Shaking his stringy hair to and frost.
- 1:00:36Shaking demons out. Oh, I love it so much.
- 1:00:40We've had demons out at least once in this show at this point,
- 1:00:45And I just love it because he's trying to be silly.
- 1:00:48He's trying to be, oh God, I can't even believe it.
- 1:00:50This is so much. And I'm going, you're literally
- 1:00:54saying demons out like he's possessed by demons.
- 1:00:59I don't. Can't believe I haven't
- 1:01:01incorporated this into my own life.
- 1:01:03It's insane. I need to start saying it at
- 1:01:05work and at the grocery store, just wherever I go.
- 1:01:08Demons out. As we get to the cash register,
- 1:01:14I noticed we've been here before.
- 1:01:17Oh. Is it familiar to you?
- 1:01:21I think I've seen Robyn splayed across this register before
- 1:01:29tackling about some wait, what's that I saw on the register still
- 1:01:39Caramels. The Christmas caramels.
- 1:01:45Oh. God, those Christmas caramels.
- 1:01:52I want to know how much money she has spent here.
- 1:01:55I want to know how much time she has spent here.
- 1:01:58Because this is the caramel shop.
- 1:02:01Not a caramel shop, not a candy shop.
- 1:02:04She just knows that this store has caramels next to the
- 1:02:07register. That's how much this bitch has
- 1:02:11bring up his gifts and say just put it on Robyn's account.
- 1:02:15This poor, unfortunate store. Oh no, because they were hit by
- 1:02:21the Brown family curse. We zoomed in.
- 1:02:24We spied with our little eyes. No, I, I, well, you had to get
- 1:02:30I could see it from the couch. We did.
- 1:02:32I went. We we rolled with my glasses and
- 1:02:38This store was called Rod Works Las Vegas and RIP It went out of
- 1:02:53RIP Rod Works Las Vegas. Brown curse?
- 1:02:56Yes, we can't even blame 2020. We can definitely blame Kody and
- 1:03:05For reals, they're. Like emailing Robyn, they're
- 1:03:09like, we have a client list that's really just emailing
- 1:03:12Robyn. We've got a sale, We've got a
- 1:03:14sale. Oh my.
- 1:03:16Gosh. Jesus, I can't believe we didn't
- 1:03:23Not after their exclusive wholesale deal with guilt on
- 1:03:27Silver Lake. Silverton Silverton.
- 1:03:29I love how I can barely even say the name.
- 1:03:34After the mothers in law and Kody experienced this gift of
- 1:03:39retail therapy together, they head over to Market Grill Cafe.
- 1:03:43They're a party of 6 for lunch
- 1:03:46and Market Grill Cafe. If they do have a knack for
- 1:03:49picking up those restaurants that look like it could have
- 1:03:51been a tgi Friday's or a Olive
- 1:03:55they put up another sign and now
- 1:03:57It totally had that vibe. I'm just surprised it's not some
- 1:04:00Americanized Mexican joint. So exactly, we're at a Market
- 1:04:05Grill cafe this time around. Because you want to know why?
- 1:04:08Why these mothers in law probably don't have the knack
- 1:04:12for spicy foods. Oh no, you can't put too much
- 1:04:15spice on anything. Not even too much pepper.
- 1:04:18You know what I would say about Market Grill Cafe?
- 1:04:20It probably has a great club sandwich so high you can't put
- 1:04:25it in your mouth. Like so many layers of bread and
- 1:04:28Turkey and tomato and bacon and lettuce.
- 1:04:31They probably make a good Rachel
- 1:04:34Oh, you know, there's a good Rachel and Reuben there.
- 1:04:37Absolutely. On mixed rye bread.
- 1:04:40I know it's like I can't have my
- 1:04:43Need some rye bread? God.
- 1:04:46As they sit down for this beautiful lunch, this gives the
- 1:04:50mothers in law an opportunity to
- 1:04:53new homes and being closer together.
- 1:04:56Kody says the kids have adjusted quickly, but that his wives are
- 1:05:01still adjusting. They're trying to join their
- 1:05:05ideas together to make a family mission statement.
- 1:05:08We get a little quip sidebar here from Bonnie.
- 1:05:13Bonnie says I don't think people understand the responsibility a
- 1:05:18man takes on in plural marriage.
- 1:05:23Thanks for that, Bonnie. Well, after she fills her head
- 1:05:25with those delusions is the perception of most of the women,
- 1:05:30particularly someone like Bonnie, who has such a strong
- 1:05:33calling to the faith that the men really do have so much.
- 1:05:38Because I'm wondering, you know,
- 1:05:40Brown family, but let's say with
- 1:05:45wife or wives and all of their
- 1:05:49have one sister wife. Based on Kody's previous math,
- 1:05:52does she really feel like her husband has so much work and so
- 1:05:55much obligation more than herself?
- 1:05:58Does she feel as if that is a culturally wide thing that the
- 1:06:01men you know, do, they usually
- 1:06:06than Kody does? The men are supposed to be the
- 1:06:10leader of the family and they're
- 1:06:12another wife unless God tells them that they could handle
- 1:06:16it. And they're supposed to be the
- 1:06:23guiding them and getting them to their celestial place in heaven.
- 1:06:32believe the men are prophets, God like and carry the burden of
- 1:06:38the family and they are there to
- 1:06:41And I think they believe that the man is the keeper of the
- 1:06:47family and Bustin has asked for the family.
- 1:06:50And I think that they truly think that.
- 1:06:55And as we've seen over time, Kody gets out of doing his tasks
- 1:07:01by going house to house. So the wives have to do the
- 1:07:05labor on their own. I think that's probably not the
- 1:07:09case in a lot of households where they can't afford multiple
- 1:07:12homes maybe, or where the women are more subservient.
- 1:07:18And I feel like this is a different dynamic, which is what
- 1:07:23Colleen and the other ex members
- 1:07:30that this is detrimental to people that are still in this
- 1:07:35cult because you're creating this false narrative.
- 1:07:39And that's why they're so against the Browns and being out
- 1:07:43like this, because they're creating this false narrative of
- 1:07:46what is really, truly happening in most of these homes, right?
- 1:07:51You know, they're all delusional.
- 1:07:53So, I mean, I don't know why I'm
- 1:07:55around it. These people are literally all
- 1:07:56delusional. So they're all different sects,
- 1:07:59right? So each sect is slightly
- 1:08:01different. So broad brush strokes.
- 1:08:04Oh, we're broad brushing the Browns and we're broad brushing
- 1:08:07the AUB members. Damn.
- 1:08:09Bonnie also says it's important for them to all be heading in
- 1:08:12the same direction when talking about Kody and his wives.
- 1:08:15That they all need to be going
- 1:08:19I also thought it was funny because Kody says they're
- 1:08:21looking to ratify their family
- 1:08:24upcoming family event. Once again, not saying the
- 1:08:28commitment ceremony, a family event.
- 1:08:31And I have to give him credit for bringing another word into
- 1:08:33my vocabulary in a way that I never thought I could use it as
- 1:08:36ratify, because I'm going to have to ratify my mission
- 1:08:41statements more regularly. Annie starts asking some hard
- 1:08:44hitting questions. Annie asks what's so different,
- 1:08:49Why are things not working? What about the wives and the
- 1:08:52dynamics is not what you were expecting this to be?
- 1:08:57Kody says. We work together, we have a
- 1:09:01business together and we're raising children together and
- 1:09:06yet I still don't feel like we
- 1:09:10Now, honey, the only correction I have for you is that, he
- 1:09:12said. I still don't fill like we're as
- 1:09:18Please use the correct pronunciation of Phil.
- 1:09:21Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry. Annie is the one here that is
- 1:09:26really leading with a line of questions that are probably what
- 1:09:33mission statement and how they are going to move forward and
- 1:09:37what is he expecting? And he's just given some word
- 1:09:40salad, blah, blah, blah. And he continues her line of
- 1:09:44questioning, asking are they not working on things as you
- 1:09:47expected? And what stood out to me in her
- 1:09:51questions she's asking Kody is she's framing up most of the
- 1:09:55questions about the wives and their relationships.
- 1:09:58She's talking about them. And he keeps including himself
- 1:10:07course. Yeah, Annie even says.
- 1:10:09Are they bringing up things that they thought they'd already
- 1:10:12worked through? Right.
- 1:10:14So she's bringing up, I thought that you guys had worked through
- 1:10:29weekend in Sedona? Yeah, they've had.
- 1:10:31And I'm sure Christine, you know, we're only seeing glimpses
- 1:10:37She knows where they are. These are the questions you
- 1:10:40would be asking. She seems to be like Christine
- 1:10:45when it comes to some of this and Christina's shared this and
- 1:10:48she's trying to ask the hard hitting questions and Kody does
- 1:10:52get real in this moment with his answer.
- 1:10:54He says. I don't think we're really
- 1:10:57dealing with our issues. Thank you for enunciating the.
- 1:11:04earlier. So, Siri.
- 1:11:05You don't think you're dealing with your issues?
- 1:11:07Didn't we just watch an entire episode?
- 1:11:09Didn't My Sister Wives podcast just come out with two fucking
- 1:11:16Hello. So there's obviously a
- 1:11:19disconnect here. That's what she's trying to get
- 1:11:21to Kody. He says he's more aware of it
- 1:11:25now with them moving close again.
- 1:11:27But it's always been an issue. I've always felt we aren't as
- 1:11:32close as we should be in Sedona. It became apparent to me that if
- 1:11:40Kody with facts getting real. He continues.
- 1:11:45I would want my wives to stay together, but I can't demand
- 1:11:49that. It has to be based on their own
- 1:11:53relationships. This was one of my favorite
- 1:11:55quotes of the episode and it was so honest.
- 1:11:58Him saying if I was to die I would want them to stay a family
- 1:12:07relationships. Well, it was one of the
- 1:12:09realizations we agreed with in the last episode.
- 1:12:12And he's just stating it here, hot off the heels of Annie
- 1:12:15asking for a little more clarification because she's
- 1:12:18reinstating. But now you live next to each
- 1:12:22other like you're so close. Wasn't this the reason you're
- 1:12:25together to do these things? Are you not putting the pieces
- 1:12:42I think you're slowly working towards that place, it just
- 1:12:50takes time and patience. Slow.
- 1:12:56And she's tearing the the fake crying.
- 1:13:01The fake crying and the slow talking made me think, you know,
- 1:13:10The apple didn't fall far from that tree.
- 1:13:12I love how everyone ignores her. Yes, she says this thing and
- 1:13:16then everything just continues because it makes no sense.
- 1:13:18Just like Robyn. Bonnie moves on and says you
- 1:13:22aren't giving yourself enough credit.
- 1:13:23Yeah, you have a beautiful family, a very beautiful family.
- 1:13:29from Kody where he says that their adult relationships could
- 1:13:33still be better even though he's
- 1:13:38Other than Annie, who's actually, you know, just asking
- 1:13:41normal questions, the other ones
- 1:13:44they're doing great. You know, your family's great,
- 1:13:47you have beautiful children, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:13:50The kind of like surface level
- 1:13:53someone who is questioning their
- 1:13:56place in life. That's the vibes.
- 1:13:58And he's saying, you know, our
- 1:14:02of suck, so at least he's acknowledging that.
- 1:14:04He literally says I'm looking for guidance and I think we can
- 1:14:08do more. And they're not giving him Jack
- 1:14:11shit. Yeah.
- 1:14:12Annie is asking leading questions, trying to get more
- 1:14:16out of him, trying to get him to
- 1:14:20And these other grandma grandmas, Yeah, are grandma,
- 1:14:26grandma ING and just. Oh, you're doing so great.
- 1:14:31Oh, we couldn't ask for more, Bonnie says.
- 1:14:35Oh, you have a united family, the older kids.
- 1:14:40One of the older kids has even
- 1:14:43they are that the young ones are
- 1:14:47what they experienced in Lehigh.
- 1:14:50Just praising him. He's struggling here.
- 1:14:53He's reaching out for help, he's actually being real in this
- 1:14:58moment and saying what he's struggling with, and he's asking
- 1:15:23the God, the whatever, the prophet.
- 1:15:25But then I'm also curious about them being on camera and how
- 1:15:30comfortable they are with that. I kind of feel I got a little
- 1:15:34bit of a vibe of, well, we're acquiescing, we're praising you,
- 1:15:41I'm not sure that most of them
- 1:15:43are really all that comfortable with it at.
- 1:15:44This point, hey, guess what, we better keep sweet.
- 1:15:47Yes, this is it. We're keeping.
- 1:15:48Sweet. So there's cultural blah, blah
- 1:15:51blah on this, but then also I think there's a little
- 1:15:54production weight to it. I also didn't note any of the
- 1:15:58details Bonnie said after this
- 1:16:01younger kids at the plague cul-de-sac.
- 1:16:04But then I thought she might have listed a few shortcomings,
- 1:16:07which I thought was kind of funny, but I don't remember what
- 1:16:09they were. I think she just was saying you
- 1:16:12do have things that you need to work on.
- 1:16:14Everyone has things that they need to work on, but you need to
- 1:16:16be looking at the bigger picture
- 1:16:19and you're doing great. OK, Yeah.
- 1:16:21So she's saying, well, everybody
- 1:16:25on, but when you look at the grand scheme of things you're
- 1:16:28doing wonderful darling, wonderful.
- 1:16:29Even though he's kind of admitting we're kind of failing.
- 1:16:35We're struggling. We're struggling like.
- 1:16:38Yeah, it was an awkward lunch to
- 1:16:41It sure was. We make it to the next day
- 1:16:44finally, and we're at Meri's Kitchen.
- 1:16:48It's a Mother's Day and Kody and
- 1:16:52all of the mothers. Kody admits.
- 1:16:57I am not a cook. I'm the kind of guy that uses a
- 1:17:01microwave. He does say microwave.
- 1:17:07I'll, I'll give him that. They're all making breakfast,
- 1:17:10him and all the kids, and they're going to do a buffet
- 1:17:13style because what else would you do?
- 1:17:16A seated dinner and have your children serve them?
- 1:17:19I'm like, what are you doing here?
- 1:17:21Do it. A buffet.
- 1:17:22Kody is walking around the kitchen looking like an idiot.
- 1:17:26The oldest kids are doing the majority of the work, and
- 1:17:29there's plenty of moments that, you know, production left in
- 1:17:31for us to see of him. Kind of dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt,
- 1:17:33dirt, dirt. And as this activity is
- 1:17:36happening at Meri's house, the
- 1:17:41sitting around having a conversation.
- 1:17:44And he does point out to us that
- 1:17:47thought was interesting. There's nine moms, right?
- 1:17:50So they've got the four sister
- 1:17:53then the four mothers in law. That's a lot of moms to prepare
- 1:17:56some food for. I've never made Mother's Day
- 1:17:59brunch for 9 mothers. I think only a restaurant
- 1:18:03probably has. Going like, I mean, as a gay
- 1:18:06man, I probably would have served quiche.
- 1:18:07So let's be real, that's an easy
- 1:18:11Or you could go egg bacon. Call it quiche.
- 1:18:13You know, half dozen of 1/6 of
- 1:18:16Lots of things going on here, lots of things plugged in.
- 1:18:19We're making waffles, we're making pancakes, we're making
- 1:18:24bacon, sausage, eggs, you name
- 1:18:30the fan when all of a sudden they pull a fuse.
- 1:18:37Fuck. Well, that that's funny because
- 1:18:40in this show, of course, that's not what happened.
- 1:18:42You have Aspen going, Yeah, this
- 1:18:46Not on. This isn't even making anything.
- 1:18:47And Kody's like, he's like unplugging it.
- 1:18:51Look. Oh, we must have blown a fuse.
- 1:18:55And then as he notices, yeah, like, nothing's on and nothing's
- 1:18:57working because he's actually not doing anything.
- 1:18:59It's just all of the kids are doing all of the shit and this
- 1:19:01is what's so. One of the children does
- 1:19:04nonchalantly finds out that the plugins not working and fuse
- 1:19:08has been blown well. Luckily, Kody, an ever leader in
- 1:19:12the manosphere, decides he's going to go correct this
- 1:19:15problem. But where does he go?
- 1:19:17I. Don't know where would one find
- 1:19:18a fuse box. I'm not sure.
- 1:19:20I mean, this is the desert, there's not a basement.
- 1:19:23So I wonder where he starts his journey.
- 1:19:25Does he go to the garage? Does he go to Meri's Wet bar?
- 1:19:30Where do you go to find the fuse
- 1:19:33This bumbling idiot is going room to room looking for the
- 1:19:37fuse box. He does go to the garage where I
- 1:19:41would probably expect it to. Be that's probably the first
- 1:19:44place I would look to if I didn't know where the fuse box
- 1:19:45was in my own home. If you're anybody who owns a
- 1:19:50home, anybody who lives in an apartment, anyone who has
- 1:19:54electricity, yeah, you have to
- 1:19:59Is oh he is so he's so dumb. They toured these homes being
- 1:20:03built. How have you not even just
- 1:20:05casually noticed where your own fucking fuse box is?
- 1:20:09It's insane to me. It's not like it's going to be
- 1:20:11different in each home either.
- 1:20:15plan. They've been here.
- 1:20:16Well, over months, yeah. They moved in in Christmas time
- 1:20:19and now they're going to college.
- 1:20:21Oh, Mother's Day. Oh, May.
- 1:20:23So it's May. They've been here for multiple
- 1:20:25months. They've been here 5 months.
- 1:20:26How do you not know where the fuse box is?
- 1:20:28It's the same in every single one of the homes that you live
- 1:20:30in. He finally finds it outside and
- 1:20:34everything is labeled really well.
- 1:20:36The builders actually wrote down
- 1:20:40doesn't happen a lot of the time.
- 1:20:42To be honest. Our fuse box is a hodgepodge of
- 1:20:46a bunch of shit and sometimes my
- 1:20:50he'll flip something and it's to
- 1:20:53Ours is a fucking train wreck.
- 1:20:56So theirs was labeled very nicely.
- 1:20:59I mean, it is a new build. That is one thing with your
- 1:21:01house that I have actually been on a hunt with your husband to
- 1:21:03try to figure out is where does this pipe even go and where's
- 1:21:07this wiring like it is. Yeah, You know, a lot of people
- 1:21:10did a lot of projects. They sure have.
- 1:21:13Luckily, your husband. Is not continuing that grand
- 1:21:15tradition in your house. Are you sure?
- 1:21:19Oh, we can do it. We can do it like, oh, you can't
- 1:21:22really make it worse. So here we go.
- 1:21:23I haven't threatened during his neck a few times.
- 1:21:26No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 1:21:28He can do it himself, sure. Luckily, Kody is the hero of
- 1:21:32this story. He finds his own fuse box.
- 1:21:34Finally finds the fuse box, he gets that electricity going and
- 1:21:37those waffles are back on track.
- 1:21:39Maddie does have to take a break, though, to come get a
- 1:21:41giant glass of water with ice out of the fridge at Janelle's
- 1:21:45house. So she gets to take a little
- 1:21:46travel path by the bombs and they're all going, oh, what's
- 1:21:49going on over there? How's the brunch coming along?
- 1:21:52And she says it's chaos. They're going well.
- 1:21:56Is it normal chaos or more than chaos?
- 1:21:58And she's like, more than chaos.
- 1:22:00And they go, what is Kody like? What does Kody look like?
- 1:22:03What is our big strongman? Oh, Kody.
- 1:22:06What is he doing? What does his?
- 1:22:09Face look like Christine wants to know exactly what his face is
- 1:22:16Yeah, mimicking Kody's face, and it's funny.
- 1:22:19Yeah, like the eyebrows crooked and the eyes crazy and whatever.
- 1:22:23It's a cute moment. It's funny, we cut back to the
- 1:22:28buffet being set up and we see
- 1:22:33scrumptious and she's using an
- 1:22:40slice of banana and she's putting the whole entire tongs
- 1:22:44inside of her mouth to feed herself the banana.
- 1:22:48She does use an entire black plastic tongue that picks up a
- 1:22:52little piece of banana and shoves the whole tongue in her
- 1:22:55mouth. And then not only does she just
- 1:22:57drop the banana, but she's pulling the tongue out of her
- 1:23:00mouth, letting it slide across
- 1:23:03What's it there? And then, yes, of course, that's
- 1:23:06what everyone's going to get their little banana slices with.
- 1:23:08And it was a beautiful moment,
- 1:23:10Otherwise. I've got truly scrumptious.
- 1:23:13Children are germ factories and everyone is sick all the time
- 1:23:17when they have children. As you may have heard in the
- 1:23:20last episode and this current one, I have been affected by
- 1:23:25something similar by my own children's German germs.
- 1:23:29Little germ factories. They sure are.
- 1:23:32Cut to all of the mothers do venture over to Meri's house
- 1:23:35because they must have been summoned that their brunch was
- 1:23:38ready. Mother's Day brunch is ready. 9
- 1:23:41mothers come on over from Meri's
- 1:23:44And it is funny because when they do the exterior shot
- 1:23:46literally production did a pan
- 1:23:50Janelle's to Meri's and it was
- 1:23:53from one house to another. God bless on the Pligdesac, the
- 1:23:58compound, or as Kody calls it,
- 1:24:03The C word. And after they arrive, you know,
- 1:24:07they can't just dive into breakfast because they are a
- 1:24:09spiritual family. They are a religious family.
- 1:24:12They are a family that believes in what their cult says.
- 1:24:17So Kody is going to lead their
- 1:24:24Not quite sure what it was. It's just Kody talking to the
- 1:24:26family, at the family. Some heartfelt words.
- 1:24:30He starts by saying in our hearts we feel devotion and I
- 1:24:38blacked out because he's crying and all I could see was his
- 1:24:42face just, well he was kind of like tearing up and I'm not
- 1:24:47going to lie, it was sentimental.
- 1:24:49It was actually a really nice moment so I was paying attention
- 1:24:59honey. Yeah, it was a bit odd because
- 1:25:02there was not a lot of room. You could tell around all the
- 1:25:05people gathered around. He's giving this speech, and
- 1:25:07although the home is big, there's a lot of people.
- 1:25:09So the camera angle was not necessarily pleasant.
- 1:25:11It was a little off and down. The sun was coming in on him.
- 1:25:15It was a little weird to watch.
- 1:25:18He's getting emotional, talking about his appreciation for the
- 1:25:29your mother means or blah, blah, blah.
- 1:25:30It was a lot of, you know, fill in the blank.
- 1:25:33But it did feel like he was maybe having a genuine
- 1:25:36appreciation moment for his mother, how his wives are
- 1:25:40mothers to his children. You know, if he was a normal
- 1:25:43human, that's what you'd be thinking.
- 1:25:44And maybe he was. He uses the word devotion and he
- 1:25:52towards God, whatever their being is that they feel devotion
- 1:25:57towards. And he feels devotion towards
- 1:25:59his wives and everything that they have done for him and given
- 1:26:03him. And it was a touching moment.
- 1:26:06And you're right, that light was
- 1:26:11making him look like he was lit from above and within, and he
- 1:26:17was proselytizing and it was magical.
- 1:26:22I would call it overexposed, but
- 1:26:24seem like it was a postcard or once again, another fucking
- 1:26:27Disney thing where the lights coming in and he was touched.
- 1:26:29It was just too bright. But Amen.
- 1:26:32Everyone starts serving themselves this brunch.
- 1:26:34You know they're going through
- 1:26:35Everyone's picking up those truly tongs, picking up things
- 1:26:38with the truly tongs. We go to the couch where we have
- 1:26:43all of the wives and they are essentially talking what some
- 1:26:47might call shit about their husband.
- 1:26:51Yeah, trash in a loving way. Oh.
- 1:26:54Of course. Christine says God bless him,
- 1:26:57he's an idiot. Robyn, are you talking about
- 1:27:01Kody? We can bond over his silliness
- 1:27:05and his ridiculousness. Yes, it's best if we just laugh
- 1:27:09at his antics, don't you know?
- 1:27:15she says your husband should not
- 1:27:21You should not hinge everything and your value on what he
- 1:27:25thinks of you in regards to something her mother must have
- 1:27:29said to her once, long ago, as she looked longingly to her
- 1:27:34father she couldn't claim as her own.
- 1:27:37Yeah. After all, Alice did tell her
- 1:27:42your husband is just a man. Just a man, darling and.
- 1:27:46You can't hang your value on what a man thinks of you.
- 1:27:50It's funny because the advice overall, in a nutshell, is not
- 1:28:00Amen. It's just that it's
- 1:28:03unfortunately, disgustingly wrapped in an Alice and Robyn
- 1:28:07shell and it's just gross. It's just.
- 1:28:09Gross. Like do we believe that that is
- 1:28:11truly what her mother has told her and taught her over time as
- 1:28:15she is constantly manipulating this man to get his affection
- 1:28:19and make him want only her? Do we think that is what she was
- 1:28:28I was thinking, well, that's a great way to wrap up a
- 1:28:31manipulation tactic, but whatever you got to say, Robyn.
- 1:28:34Yeah, well, those children have
- 1:28:36gotten their fill of this brunch
- 1:28:40scurry along on their merry way and go to Kids Town or wherever
- 1:28:44the fuck they go when the adults
- 1:28:47Dusty Backyard They all got their fill of truly's germs and
- 1:28:51now they're off to play in the
- 1:28:53And we have all of the mothers
- 1:29:00they're conversing and they're
- 1:29:02conversation here that is not contrived whatsoever.
- 1:29:06No. And Meri starts by asking what
- 1:29:10each mom has learned by living
- 1:29:14What has helped them grow and be
- 1:29:18Oh, I'm having flashbacks from
- 1:29:21and said we've got questions to answer organically.
- 1:29:24It has a similar vibe. Ringing to the dinner bell
- 1:29:27Questions Questions from our followers.
- 1:29:30And after Meri asked this touching touching question,
- 1:29:35Alice said blah blah blah blah
- 1:29:39blah. I did not give one flying fuck
- 1:29:41what Alice said. Did you care at all what Alice
- 1:29:43said? I I don't know if there was
- 1:29:44anything. She says can you love someone
- 1:29:48who is less than perfect and still love them?
- 1:29:52It's taught me a lot. You have to learn to love
- 1:29:57someone who's less than perfect and continue to love them with
- 1:30:00all of their flaws, just as I have learned to continue to love
- 1:30:05my Robyn after all of her flaws,
- 1:30:08premarital sex. Oh, Alice, you know that pretty
- 1:30:17much is what she said. And that's why I was going blah
- 1:30:19blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.
- 1:30:21And then Bonnie, Bonnie Meri's
- 1:30:24blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.
- 1:30:27Everyone's still an individual
- 1:30:31they're in this type of family
- 1:30:33We're all individuals. Oh yes, that was a good kernel
- 1:30:36to take away from Bonnie. I'm so sorry that I lumped you
- 1:30:39in with Alice in the way that I did your voice, but it was
- 1:30:43along those lines. It was just like ba ba ba ba.
- 1:30:46Well, I hate to break it to our listeners at home and to you,
- 1:30:49honey, but Bonnie's no longer with us, so your apology is felt
- 1:30:52on deaf ears. I mean, if you believe in Sky
- 1:30:55friends, she's all around us and
- 1:30:58We still listening to us. She is don't.
- 1:31:01Haunt me? Yeah, Bonnie.
- 1:31:03Love you, Bonnie. I love you, Bonnie.
- 1:31:06Yeah. I don't know why I'm shortening
- 1:31:07everybody's name. I'm like Bon Rob.
- 1:31:10Hey, hey, hey, we didn't make fun of your thinning hair.
- 1:31:12Please don't haunt us. Thank you for that, honey.
- 1:31:19Sorry. It was beautiful.
- 1:31:21It's really good. It's totally one of those
- 1:31:24moments where you're not bringing up the thing you're not
- 1:31:26bringing up and you're pointing out you're not bringing it up.
- 1:31:28I love that. I love that I.
- 1:31:31Just really don't want to be haunted.
- 1:31:32You've always told me. Well, now let me take that back.
- 1:31:34You recently told me that one of
- 1:31:38haunted by the ghost of Bonnie
- 1:31:42So, you know, we've got a lot of
- 1:31:44It is. There's $1,000,000 studio that
- 1:31:47we're in. I'm going to have to call upon
- 1:31:50my Catholic roots and get a priest up in here, get some sage
- 1:31:54because I brought up something I
- 1:31:57And I'm not even going to say it
- 1:31:59curse on us. Thank you this.
- 1:32:01Will not be our cross to bear Go.
- 1:32:02Hunt those other people that make fun of that.
- 1:32:04Curse on them here. Oh God.
- 1:32:07So as we're going through the mothers in law, right, we had
- 1:32:09Alice saying blah blah blah, Bonnie saying blah blah blah.
- 1:32:11Then we get to Janelle. So I guess I'm not, well,
- 1:32:14mothers in law. Plus mother Janelle talks about
- 1:32:18wanting to live in plural marriage and how she had no idea
- 1:32:23the pain it would create. Which gives an opportunity for
- 1:32:28the camera to pan over to Cheryl, her sister wife, who
- 1:32:31says it was hell. And then kind of chuckles, which
- 1:32:36is a little odd. I'm like, OK, especially because
- 1:32:39Cheryl also looks like she's on the verge of tears while
- 1:32:43chuckling. And then we have a cutaway to a
- 1:32:45moment where Janelle, I think it
- 1:32:49dining room. So I think after this scene,
- 1:32:51they must have pulled everyone
- 1:32:54their one on ones, you know, their confessional moments.
- 1:32:57And so we get a one-on-one moment here with Kody's mom,
- 1:33:00Janelle. Janelle says that Cheryl was
- 1:33:05good at business and she was able to help with the business
- 1:33:10in a way that Janelle was not.
- 1:33:15time with Kody's dad and I was
- 1:33:21jealous. We cut back to Cheryl and Cheryl
- 1:33:26says I really felt that there was not much room for me in the
- 1:33:31family. I wondered why, Gee whiz, why am
- 1:33:37I here? Why was I doing this?
- 1:33:43And a fresh reminder for those
- 1:33:45halfway through the episode, Cheryl is the one who married
- 1:33:50Janelle's husband, Janelle, who is Kody's mom, Cheryl, who is
- 1:33:56Janelle's mom. Our sister wives.
- 1:33:59My God, this family. It's so hard to keep this shit
- 1:34:02together. Cheryl Gee Whiz.
- 1:34:05Gee whiz. Why was I doing this?
- 1:34:08Yeah, Cheryl, Gee whiz. Remember, remember when we
- 1:34:13first, I don't know if it was when we first met Cheryl, it
- 1:34:15might have been, but she was the
- 1:34:17home when we were at the rentals and she was talking about
- 1:34:21something to camera and we were laughing.
- 1:34:23It was when I feel like it was the episode where it was you
- 1:34:27made a joke about Meri giving Janelle CPR or something for
- 1:34:30coming in and it was like she was standing outside and she had
- 1:34:34It was a joke about the caramels and she has some sort of crack.
- 1:34:38I don't remember what it was.
- 1:34:40Sorry you guys. Well, I don't know if I'm the
- 1:34:41greatest at it, but I'll try. I'll try.
- 1:34:45That's what it was and we got a kick out of it, even though
- 1:34:48telling it now it's like, OK. G Wiz, you guys are.
- 1:34:51Cool. They all have this, like,
- 1:34:53glossed over a look where it's
- 1:34:58verge of tears, half tears. In this conversation.
- 1:35:03Shaky voices, Janelle says The
- 1:35:12self centeredness. And I thought plural marriage
- 1:35:16would bring about some perfection.
- 1:35:20What? I don't understand the context
- 1:35:23of that at all. You would, you thought you were
- 1:35:25being selfish and you thought that plural marriage would bring
- 1:35:29about some sort of perfection.
- 1:35:36that you should let go of your
- 1:35:39would allow you to do that and
- 1:35:43heaven? That's what I'm taking away from
- 1:35:46that. It was a very weird statement to
- 1:35:49make. It's backwards to me.
- 1:35:51I would think, gosh, I got into a plural marriage and realized
- 1:35:56I was being self-centered. But she says it backwards, that
- 1:36:02she was selfish and self-centered and thought a
- 1:36:06plural marriage would bring about some perfection.
- 1:36:10So she thought that plural marriage would make her a better
- 1:36:13person. And I suppose that's what
- 1:36:17they're taught, right? It seems very surface level or
- 1:36:21just like not multidimensional.
- 1:36:23Just I thought that plural marriage would make everything
- 1:36:28fine. Turns out I was a selfish
- 1:36:30person. Were you a selfish person?
- 1:36:33Or was it that getting into plural marriage was challenging
- 1:36:36and therefore you might have felt selfish because someone was
- 1:36:40I mean, a little hard to follow. My editorial note on the entire
- 1:36:45rest of this conversation, perhaps except for Annie, is
- 1:36:48these people are saying a whole lot of nothing.
- 1:36:51There's a lot of nothing being said here and a lot of feelings
- 1:36:55that are not deep, are not connected, and so buckle up,
- 1:36:59we're going to have more of it. Christine chimes in and goes.
- 1:37:03What changed? Cheryl says.
- 1:37:06I'm not sure this is what I'm telling you.
- 1:37:08They say so much nothing here. I'm so sorry you guys, Cheryl
- 1:37:12also says. But in my prayers, I heard this
- 1:37:15is where I'm supposed to be. It takes a lot of effort and you
- 1:37:23do. And she is full on crying while
- 1:37:26saying this, right? Full on crying at this point.
- 1:37:29So she doesn't know what changed and she doesn't know where she's
- 1:37:34But her prayers told her this is where she's supposed to be and
- 1:37:39What in the actual fuck and why should it be this hard and why
- 1:37:53child's house having a Mother's Day brunch and still be this
- 1:37:57upset about it? About things you can't even put
- 1:38:00into words. Not that you can't harken back
- 1:38:13Yeah, and things that have hurt you in the past that you have
- 1:38:18grappled with, learned from, apparently prayed over, heard
- 1:38:22voices tell you about, and you can't even clearly articulate
- 1:38:27what it is that's even happening at all or what you've
- 1:38:32experienced. It's very bizarre.
- 1:38:33It's not like these are happy tears that you have had this
- 1:38:38revelation and I'm having happy tears because we spoke to God.
- 1:38:46hard work, but it's worth it. And this is everything that our
- 1:38:49life was meant to be and supposed to be.
- 1:38:52No, it was a challenge. It takes a lot of effort, and
- 1:38:57you have to be committed if this is what you want to do.
- 1:39:01Like, OK, Cheryl, I'm not even trying to talk shit about these
- 1:39:05people. It's just strange this entire
- 1:39:07scene unravels like this, Janelle says.
- 1:39:09It had to come from me and not expecting everyone else to
- 1:39:14change. OK.
- 1:39:16I mean, that's a shared experience of recognizing that,
- 1:39:19yeah, your change for yourself is going to come from you and
- 1:39:22not other people. That's all we're going to get.
- 1:39:29Yeah. Where have we heard this
- 1:39:31sentiment before? Meri says this to Christine.
- 1:39:35Yeah, yes. In like the second season.
- 1:39:39God, when was? That no the fourth season.
- 1:39:42Yeah, whenever it was when she's trying to tell.
- 1:39:44Her laundry on the bed and Christine's unhappy and Meri's.
- 1:39:47That's right, Meri's leg was up.
- 1:39:49You've got to work on yourself.
- 1:39:52You can't change Kody. You can only change yourself.
- 1:39:55You can change your outlook on this.
- 1:39:57It's when Meri had the leg brace and we were making fun of her.
- 1:40:05yourself and it's like. Right.
- 1:40:07We've heard this sentiment many. Times simplification of what we
- 1:40:11all should know and figure out especially.
- 1:40:13I'm sorry. Like you said, if you're a
- 1:40:15grandmother, you are an elder and a family.
- 1:40:17You're here being celebrated as a mother of more than one
- 1:40:21generation, basically. I mean, you're a grandmother.
- 1:40:22You're a matriarch of your family and you're spewing the
- 1:40:25same shit about how your husband's not going to change.
- 1:40:32yourself and your own outlook. What about growing to together?
- 1:40:37What about changing together and
- 1:40:39growing as a family and learning
- 1:40:45I don't know. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:40:46This whole thing is garbage. This whole conversation's
- 1:40:50garbage. It.
- 1:40:50Is and not only is it about the husband, but about each other,
- 1:40:54because we have sister wives of an older generation than the
- 1:40:57sister wives at the show is about sitting in this room
- 1:41:01spewing the same shit, the nonsense.
- 1:41:03It's like, oh, it's about blah, blah, blah, and it's yada,
- 1:41:05yada, yada. And it's like, what?
- 1:41:07We're not even learning anything
- 1:41:09dynamics that could be applied to other people.
- 1:41:12OK, so Cheryl was good at business and Janelle was
- 1:41:15uncomfortable with it. Janelle shared that that was an
- 1:41:17actual thing that happened. At least we got that.
- 1:41:20But the rest is just a bunch of hocus pocus.
- 1:41:22It's nonsense. You are this old that you're at
- 1:41:24this point in your life. You're still trying to sell this
- 1:41:27make believe dream and it's not doing anyone any favors and you
- 1:41:34seem so unhappy still. I will never understand how
- 1:41:41someone can just let their life pass them by and be this
- 1:41:44unhappy. It's a cult mentality.
- 1:41:47They've been brainwashed. They're in a cult.
- 1:41:49That's all. I can think about this because
- 1:41:53they don't seem happy, and it's so sad to me to let your life
- 1:41:59go by like that. We live in an amazing,
- 1:42:03wonderful, crazy world where all
- 1:42:07Well, is it just that these people are all about the eternal
- 1:42:10Kingdom? It's all about everything.
- 1:42:11In the future, it's some. They're not about living in the
- 1:42:14here and the now. Here and now and their own
- 1:42:16experience that they're having
- 1:42:18They're not going to enjoy being
- 1:42:23they're thinking about is the celestial Kingdom beyond where
- 1:42:26we're at currently. They're living in the future.
- 1:42:29They're living in this hope and dream.
- 1:42:32It's so weird to me. It's so impractical.
- 1:42:37I'm even having a tie back right
- 1:42:40where Kody's asking almost for
- 1:42:43do for his relationships with his sister wives.
- 1:42:47And they're like, well, your children are great and
- 1:42:49everything's beautiful. Your family's wonderful.
- 1:42:51And it's like, this is not even real world practical advice at
- 1:42:54all. Like what are you doing?
- 1:42:56It's. Not helpful.
- 1:42:58Cheryl continues. Oh my God, you guys, brace
- 1:43:00yourself. We're, we're, I was going to say
- 1:43:02we're going to get somewhere. We're not It's.
- 1:43:04More of the phony quoty things
- 1:43:09Where there's almost, there's a kernel of truth in there, but
- 1:43:12how are you going to find it? What are you going to do with
- 1:43:13it? They can't tell you this, Cheryl
- 1:43:16says. To build relationships that are
- 1:43:18worth wild and lasting, you have
- 1:43:24day by day, and listen to the Spirit and just really develop
- 1:43:30unconditional love for one another and accept one another
- 1:43:34for who you really are. The hallmark sentiment of this
- 1:43:39Amen. You know, accept each other for
- 1:43:41who each other are. That does make sense.
- 1:43:44But what does it mean to build
- 1:43:47listen to the Spirit? How do you get there?
- 1:43:51Yeah. What are the steps?
- 1:43:52Yeah. What are the bricks?
- 1:43:53What do you really do for each
- 1:43:57yourself? Tell me how to do it brick by
- 1:43:59brick then, bitch. I guess the.
- 1:44:01Give me the bricks. Tell me how to build it.
- 1:44:03That's what I'm asking for. Jesus Christ.
- 1:44:07The one kernel I can take from
- 1:44:10for who they really are, knowing
- 1:44:14for someone else changing. That's fine.
- 1:44:16That's an eloquent way of putting the last sentence of her
- 1:44:19paragraph of bullshit. We cut to a moment where
- 1:44:22Christine tells the story about being surprised and shocked
- 1:44:25when her mother, Annie left when she was 19.
- 1:44:29She left and it was the most devastating thing in Christine's
- 1:44:31life. It was hard for her to trust
- 1:44:33after that. I have torn Christine apart for
- 1:44:36this in the past and I'm going
- 1:44:39I don't know if it's a cult thing.
- 1:44:40I don't know if it's me being an
- 1:44:43You know, a leader of the manosphere, but when you're 19
- 1:44:46years old, your mom divorces your dad and it's the most
- 1:44:49devastating thing in your life
- 1:44:53After that, I'm going, why at 19
- 1:44:56more of a life of your own? Like what is going on with these
- 1:44:59people? I understand that it would suck
- 1:45:00and it would be challenging and you'd have feels, but my God,
- 1:45:03it's the most challenging thing and it's hard to trust.
- 1:45:05After my mother left, my father,
- 1:45:09you have volunteered that you had a good relationship.
- 1:45:12She's been perfectly fine. You guys are great.
- 1:45:14Like, you've worked. You've worked work things out,
- 1:45:16but it's somehow the one of the biggest things that happened in
- 1:45:18your life is that your mom divorced your dad when you were
- 1:45:2019. I mean, you are you, you have
- 1:45:23divorced parents. I don't, my parents are not
- 1:45:26happy every fucking day. It's not like it's a storybook,
- 1:45:28but I don't understand how you're 19 years old and your
- 1:45:31life is torn apart. You're in crumbles.
- 1:45:33I think in the book she talks about being depressed for like
- 1:45:36months and like all of these terrible things.
- 1:45:38And it's like because your parents got divorced and you
- 1:45:40were 19. I think it has more to do with
- 1:45:43her being shaken by the fact that her mom isn't believing in
- 1:45:48their faith anymore. OK, that.
- 1:45:50Makes sense that they had sold
- 1:45:54her about plural marriage, and
- 1:45:57extricating herself from plural marriage and doesn't believe in
- 1:46:00it anymore. I think it has more to do with
- 1:46:03the fact that she thought her mom was best friends with her
- 1:46:05sister wife. They pulled the wool over her
- 1:46:08eyes. They probably lied to her and
- 1:46:11she was living with rose colored
- 1:46:14Were there probably warning signs as in everything?
- 1:46:18Probably. But do you think they hid it
- 1:46:20from Christine? Probably because that's what
- 1:46:23this religion does. They lie and they hide.
- 1:46:25So I can see where it would be
- 1:46:30My situation, I was, thank God.
- 1:46:33Thank God. When?
- 1:46:34Why didn't you do this earlier? I would have preferred that you
- 1:46:37did it when I was still living at home because Jesus fucking
- 1:46:41Christ, everybody knew and wise today with this thing for the
- 1:46:47sake of the children. But why do people say that your
- 1:46:51kids are better off seeing their parents happy and seeing
- 1:46:55their parents in a healthy loving relationship and not
- 1:46:59fighting. And I love my parents, I do, I
- 1:47:04truly do. And I know they were doing their
- 1:47:06best at the time. I get it.
- 1:47:09They did the best that they could do and I can only hope my
- 1:47:12kids give me that much grace when I'm older because I know
- 1:47:14I'm going to fuck up too. But I just think that this
- 1:47:19disgusting, warped way that this
- 1:47:24even worse. You know, like my parents kind
- 1:47:27of lied in a way staying together.
- 1:47:29Everyone knew it was this false narrative, but her parents
- 1:47:32didn't even allow the cracks to show is from my understanding
- 1:47:36of this, which is scary as a 19 year old.
- 1:47:41And you're going off and you're thinking that you're supposed
- 1:47:43to be getting married now. You're supposed to be getting
- 1:47:45married young. You're looking for a husband.
- 1:47:48You believe that plural marriage
- 1:47:51marriage is what you're supposed
- 1:47:53And then it's like the rugs pulled out from under you.
- 1:47:55So I do give Christine grace in this.
- 1:47:58And I think she probably had a
- 1:48:02What I hope Christine saw at the
- 1:48:08is now, and I believe she does, is that her mom deserves to be
- 1:48:13happy. And her mom was just as scared
- 1:48:15as she was and just as distraught as she was, Her mom
- 1:48:19during this interview says. This is was the hardest time of
- 1:48:24my life. I was listening to everything
- 1:48:28outside of me, everyone outside of me telling me what I had to
- 1:48:32be, who I had to be. I had to do this to be a good
- 1:48:35sister, wife. I had to do this to be a good
- 1:48:38mom. I always had all of these
- 1:48:40outside opinions, these outside things telling me how to live
- 1:48:43my life. And I didn't need to be told how
- 1:48:48to do my life. I was inherently a good person.
- 1:48:51I loved, loved God. I loved my family.
- 1:48:55She is defensive during this moment and still trying to sell
- 1:49:00the reason that she had to leave
- 1:49:05to be happy. And I just think that Christine
- 1:49:11and her mom's relationship, I, I
- 1:49:17the future for the Browns here, coming up with the moms and the
- 1:49:21parting from the children and the breaks that are going to
- 1:49:26happen in the family. And this is like foreshadowing
- 1:49:28to me. And it's so painful to watch.
- 1:49:30I don't know. I appreciate that you
- 1:49:32highlighted in response to my question about my insensitive
- 1:49:36question about Christine and maybe it's not so insensitive.
- 1:49:39I just was going, I can't believe that this has been so
- 1:49:42such an impact to you as a 19 year old, your parents splitting
- 1:49:44up. You are right.
- 1:49:46It is about the framework and the methodology and the
- 1:49:49architecture of the life that she was put into and raised in
- 1:49:53being shattered in front of her by her parents, her mother.
- 1:49:57So I can appreciate that, and that's understandable.
- 1:50:02I felt for Annie in her defensive responses here when
- 1:50:06she wrapped it up by saying that
- 1:50:10time by trying to please everyone else.
- 1:50:14I know I'm preaching to the choir here, and I'm probably
- 1:50:17preaching to the choir for most of the people listening to this
- 1:50:20podcast. My God.
- 1:50:22Pleasing everyone else all the
- 1:50:26And this is another level. This isn't some heteronormative
- 1:50:29American 2026 story. This is called bullshit, like
- 1:50:33another level. So I feel for Annie.
- 1:50:37To your point though about her
- 1:50:42agree with that to an extent because I think Christine has
- 1:50:45lived her life so naively of her
- 1:50:50To an extent because she's been Four Seasons now, slowly having
- 1:50:58the Rose colored glasses fading away and still pretending
- 1:51:05there's this Princess element and there is this I was raised
- 1:51:10naive type of thing, right? But then at 19, when this
- 1:51:15happened to you, you chose to continue to live naively.
- 1:51:23So I do agree with you and the
- 1:51:26She didn't let it help her grow.
- 1:51:31Right. She wasn't looking at it for
- 1:51:33what was my mom thinking? What is my mom feeling?
- 1:51:35I mean, maybe she was, but she was putting her own perspective.
- 1:51:39it. Yeah, and at this point in the
- 1:51:40show, I don't know if she's 40.
- 1:51:41I'm not sure how old she is, but this bitch has been around.
- 1:51:45She's seen these things. She was an advocate for trying
- 1:51:53she had to hear. They just did a panel where she
- 1:51:56was hearing people. Her aunt was saying hello like
- 1:52:06Because I'm going Christine, my God, you're a fucking person.
- 1:52:09But it's OK, Chris, calm down. Yeah, I have a hard time with
- 1:52:14her in particular because of her upbringing and realizing the
- 1:52:17fact that she was raised more deeply ingrained in this cult
- 1:52:21than any of the other wives and that she was truly lied to way
- 1:52:31So I can understand this childlike thinking and this way
- 1:52:36that she's kind of had to protect herself by living in a
- 1:52:47multiple instances where she could have grown, she could have
- 1:52:56So I have a hard time with her. And the polygamist royalty
- 1:53:00thing, I've heard about this in many.
- 1:53:03I've seen this in multiple facets with her where there
- 1:53:08could have also been in her immediate family a protection
- 1:53:13from the reality of the cult. Right.
- 1:53:18They probably had more money than everybody else.
- 1:53:20She was given privilege that no one else was.
- 1:53:22She talks about some of the normality of her life in
- 1:53:25comparison to someone like Colleen Snow that was just on
- 1:53:28the show. She they had wildly different
- 1:53:31experiences. So that does color her rose
- 1:53:34colored glasses too. That's true.
- 1:53:37There's different levels of this cult.
- 1:53:39There's different levels than when you're at the level that
- 1:53:43her family was at. She is being lied to in a
- 1:53:47different way. Yeah, yeah, probably a less
- 1:53:50subservient way, but look at what the yeah.
- 1:53:53I can here's within the sects based on the leader of the sect
- 1:53:58and how it trickles down from there.
- 1:54:01And she is the top tier, so things were different for her,
- 1:54:06the leader of the AUB cult that they are a part of, so yeah.
- 1:54:10I just listened to an audio book recently called The Polygamist's
- 1:54:20the other half of Christine's family.
- 1:54:23That's right, the guy who ordered her grandfather to be
- 1:54:28murdered. And it's a very interesting
- 1:54:31book. I would suggest listening to it.
- 1:54:36still. There's a lot of ideological
- 1:54:41thinking. This person still is pretty
- 1:54:44religious from my understanding of the book and how it ends.
- 1:54:47But it's called The Polygamist
- 1:54:51about the different tiers. So it kind of goes into what
- 1:54:55we're talking about and how at
- 1:54:59was treated completely differently based on the family
- 1:55:03she was living with at the time and the different mom that she
- 1:55:07was living under at the time. So I think it kind of gave me a
- 1:55:14little insight into Christine's background.
- 1:55:16So I would suggest that book if you're interested in the
- 1:55:20culture a little bit more. We have a couch moment where
- 1:55:23Christine talks about her mom and her sister wife appearing to
- 1:55:26be best friends as you were referencing.
- 1:55:28Like, you know, Christine didn't
- 1:55:32but when her mom left, it was very painful for her.
- 1:55:36Yeah, she was shocked because she thought they were best
- 1:55:38friends, so she was shocked by
- 1:55:41As would any child be. We find out I didn't know this.
- 1:55:48Maybe we've found all this before, but we find out that she
- 1:55:51didn't come to Kody and Christine's wedding.
- 1:55:54They didn't know if she was safe
- 1:55:58take their kids away. Yeah, Christine didn't feel she
- 1:56:03was safe. Didn't feel she was safe.
- 1:56:06Sorry girl, you know I'm hung up
- 1:56:10Kody's mom, Janelle, pulled them
- 1:56:14needed to involve her and they
- 1:56:19and they needed to not judge her
- 1:56:24And that they shouldn't withdraw
- 1:56:27children from their grandmother.
- 1:56:29And I think she emphasized that was, you know, yes, you might
- 1:56:32have these differences you might be questioning, but you really
- 1:56:44based on her worldview. Annie says I was trying to find
- 1:56:49myself and got lost for a long time.
- 1:56:52I can only imagine how you would feel leaving your entire family,
- 1:57:04knowing that for yourself. It was what you had to do if you
- 1:57:15time. Imagine your daughter reaching
- 1:57:25finally feeling that connection again.
- 1:57:28I'm sure her mom was so relieved that Christine was putting out
- 1:57:39alluded to earlier. What choice does she have but to
- 1:57:45She's your mom. And that is something that I
- 1:57:49think any mom should do. Not that any mom would do, but
- 1:58:00love them and you want them in your life no matter what that
- 1:58:04means. Come on.
- 1:58:06Well, and you're saying this, I don't disagree with you.
- 1:58:09I'm curious what Christine's mother Annie's relationship is
- 1:58:17Kristen Decker leaving the faith, blah blah blah.
- 1:58:21We don't dive into their relationship on this show, but I
- 1:58:28colored Christine's perception of what was going on, given some
- 1:58:33before. That doesn't mean that that's
- 1:58:35what Annie was thinking or feeling, but I would assume
- 1:58:39Annie and Kristen probably are
- 1:58:42reconnected in some way. Yeah, yeah, I don't.
- 1:58:46I don't know what that means, but that's maybe another element
- 1:58:49of it. You would think if your sister
- 1:58:51left the same cult that you left, you would reconvene and
- 1:58:56thank God that you had each other and you could commiserate
- 1:59:00together and share experiences.
- 1:59:02So I can see why Christine would be fearful that her mom would
- 1:59:07want to take her children, especially if she's being told
- 1:59:16going to be with God anymore. And who knows what they were
- 1:59:19being told, right? I can understand that.
- 1:59:22I from a mother's perspective, no matter what capacity you can
- 1:59:26have your child in your life, you would want them in your
- 1:59:29life. So of course she's going to be
- 1:59:36especially as a queer person, as a gay man, I immediately default
- 1:59:46parents and not loved unconditionally by their
- 1:59:50parents. Generally, this is a stereotype.
- 1:59:56storytelling trope, but usually the mothers are the one that
- 1:59:59are going, are the ones struggling with that decision,
- 2:00:02you know, are the ones going. I want to be there for my child,
- 2:00:05but my spouse is a, you know, homophobic asshole and I have
- 2:00:08to. Fall in line and I'm going.
- 2:00:11That's something you should really be grappling with.
- 2:00:14I talked about earlier how I would in the last episode or
- 2:00:16something, I would get divorced from a man if he was telling me
- 2:00:19I couldn't cosign for my child's
- 2:00:21be like, you're making me choose
- 2:00:24I'm going to pick my fucking child.
- 2:00:25And I'm not a mother. I've never pushed anything out
- 2:00:27of my Hoo ha. And so I don't really have a lot
- 2:00:30of empathy for people that don't
- 2:00:32I don't either. I don't either.
- 2:00:35It's a complex thing and I hear you.
- 2:00:37It would be nice to think that
- 2:00:40It's idealistic of. Me, you know, unconditionally
- 2:00:43love their child and I. Me as a mom, that's what I am
- 2:00:48going to be like. So that's what I will be like.
- 2:00:51And I can't imagine ever not being like that for my children
- 2:00:55and being there for them, even
- 2:01:00always aspire to be the mom that
- 2:01:04because I know how important that is.
- 2:01:07And I just, I can't imagine I've said this before.
- 2:01:11There was a moment in the hospital after having my first
- 2:01:17My husband was sleeping, my baby was sleeping.
- 2:01:20No nurses were around. It was quiet in the room.
- 2:01:23And I looked over through the clear bassinet that my baby was
- 2:01:28sleeping in and I started crying.
- 2:01:31And I just thought, how could any mother ever look at their
- 2:01:36child and ever do anything to hurt them?
- 2:01:39I'm going to tear up thinking about it because there's all
- 2:01:42this stuff going on with Lindsey Clancy right now.
- 2:01:44And like, I, I won't get into that.
- 2:01:46And I believe in postpartum depression.
- 2:01:48I've had it myself. So I do know that there is a way
- 2:01:55fucking mind when they do it. But I just will always love my
- 2:02:04during this because regardless of the fact that they were blow
- 2:02:07and smoke up our asses, you can tell that they love their
- 2:02:11children. So what it comes down to is you
- 2:02:13always think you're doing what's best for your child in
- 2:02:16your own sick way, even if it's fucking wrong.
- 2:02:19And it's hard to understand that.
- 2:02:23It's so hard for me to wrap my mind around that, you know?
- 2:02:25And I think we do need to move on from this Christine bit.
- 2:02:29But one thing I would also point out is I don't know if it's in
- 2:02:37talks about how it might even be in the show, how she at one
- 2:02:41point had a closer relationship with her momma's sister wife
- 2:02:44with her other mother than her bio mom.
- 2:02:47And the benefit of that, I think it might have been even when
- 2:02:50Isabel went to go stay with Meri for a day or two and let's like
- 2:02:54whole like faux setup thing where she was like, that's one
- 2:03:00have that safe space in that relationship.
- 2:03:02When I as a mother can't have that maternal thing happening or
- 2:03:08happening. So Christine's, you know, I
- 2:03:11don't want to dog on her too much longer, but it's just what
- 2:03:16it is. I respect Kody's mom, Janelle,
- 2:03:21with them because that was another mom moment where she
- 2:03:25felt the need to step in and could feel for what Christine's
- 2:03:30mom Annie was going through and you know, did what she thought
- 2:03:36And so good on her for healing that relationship regardless of
- 2:03:40the differences in religion because that's what it is all
- 2:03:43about and that is what family is all about.
- 2:03:47We get more from Janelle here. She says we all have to be
- 2:03:55humble enough to know that God loves every one of us.
- 2:04:00So it would behoove you to remember that God loves
- 2:04:06everyone. You not only got to say behoove.
- 2:04:11Which I know is a highlight for you in this episode for sure.
- 2:04:15But this was actually one of the
- 2:04:17yeah, we don't need a whole lot of color.
- 2:04:19We don't need the supporting details.
- 2:04:20This is one that I can go totally.
- 2:04:23We need to recognize that God loves everyone.
- 2:04:25If you recognize that God loves everyone of us, then we need to
- 2:04:30love each other. Yes, pretty simple.
- 2:04:33Amen doesn't need a lot of complications.
- 2:04:36Of all of the words salad, blah blah blah we got from them,
- 2:04:38this one's thumbs up. Amen.
- 2:04:40And I've got a new favorite word
- 2:04:43long time. Behoove behooves you.
- 2:04:48We're going to wrap up this episode with a voiceover from
- 2:04:50Kody. That's happening as there's a
- 2:04:52montage of footage of the Sister
- 2:04:56Day gifts. And, you know, Robyn at one
- 2:04:59point pulls out that big giant, gigantic ugly clock and is
- 2:05:03like, smiling. And it's hard to know if she's
- 2:05:06actually happy about getting it.
- 2:05:07It is a gift from her husband. Who knows?
- 2:05:10It's always hard to tell with Robyn.
- 2:05:11But this voice over from Kody goes a little something like
- 2:05:16this. I don't want to spend my life in
- 2:05:29It's not easy.
- 2:05:31Any advice that the mothers in
- 2:05:35us even more. At the end, we need to be more
- 2:05:38loving and forgiving. So even through this
- 2:05:43conversation with the moms and
- 2:05:50in. You know, Janelle Kody's mom
- 2:05:53kind of gave us that kernel at
- 2:05:55all that we need to be more loving and forgiving.
- 2:05:59So I mean, I guess there was a
- 2:06:02It is Sister Wives and this podcast is a shit show, so take
- 2:06:06it for what it's worth. But that might be a lesson to
- 2:06:09take away from what we've just
- 2:06:12All this speak of the manosphere
- 2:06:16I think it's about time that I
- 2:06:19our final segment of this show.
- 2:06:21What do you think about that? All right, Christopher, would
- 2:06:25you like to start with shit stain or mustard seed?
- 2:06:28My mustard seed for this episode is going to Annie.
- 2:06:32I know mine. What does it feel like, honey?
- 2:06:41Annie Christine's mom leaving a cult and not young when doing
- 2:06:46so. Having adult literal children,
- 2:06:54against her, the constant being told who she needed to be for
- 2:06:58her husband, for her sister wives, for her children.
- 2:07:01I think a lot of people listening to this podcast, be
- 2:07:05the mothers or not, can identify with that.
- 2:07:08We all feel that pressure and I think mom's wives, I was.
- 2:07:12It's funny because wives is duplicated here with the sister
- 2:07:15wives a bit, but mothers and wives having that pressure,
- 2:07:18having that pressure without even being those.
- 2:07:21But then that's elevated And then being in a cult and
- 2:07:24probably having microscopes on you as a leader of the cult,
- 2:07:27being married to a leader of the cult, you're an example.
- 2:07:30Oh God, all the pressure and for her to leave.
- 2:07:34Good for fucking her and overcoming struggles outside of
- 2:07:38that and post that to have a relationship with her daughter
- 2:07:47Kody. Her line of questioning early in
- 2:07:56A supportive mother-in-law but sees what's really going on and
- 2:08:00is still showing up and still filming with this God awful
- 2:08:04family so. Because she wants to be part of
- 2:08:06her child's life and her grandkids life.
- 2:08:08No matter what, she's going to be supportive so she can be
- 2:08:11there for them. So Annie gets my mustard seed.
- 2:08:17I'm not sure that it matters. Annie gets my mustard seed for
- 2:08:24Janelle. She didn't do as much for me as
- 2:08:31Annie did. However, towards the end here
- 2:08:35when we found out that she helped mend the relationship
- 2:08:40between Christine and Annie, that was huge for me.
- 2:08:44Especially because she still is part of this religion and called
- 2:08:54Not a lot of people would do that, especially given the
- 2:08:58circumstances in the cult like behavior.
- 2:09:00So she is a OK in my book, you know?
- 2:09:06Yeah. And she also was honest when it
- 2:09:10came to the gift giving. I appreciated the fact that she
- 2:09:16was one of well, she was one of all of the mothers in law that
- 2:09:24Yeah, she was the one that initiated that with Kody like.
- 2:09:28So appreciate that. And she also gave us a story
- 2:09:33about Kody being a little shit when he was a child and burning
- 2:09:36his hands on the radiator and deserving it.
- 2:09:39She all but said he deserved it and that he's still a shit to
- 2:09:43this day. So love that for her.
- 2:09:46She can admit that she raised a little shit and she still loves
- 2:09:52him, but she's truthful. So yeah, she's going to get my
- 2:09:59store in, you know, Rod's building or whatever it's
- 2:10:02called. Rod's work.
- 2:10:03Rod works, Rod works. But there were also little
- 2:10:07moments where she was kind of busting Kody's balls a little
- 2:10:09bit. And I like that there was just a
- 2:10:14there that might not align with Kody's perspective on
- 2:10:16everything and they might not have been big dulls, but I did
- 2:10:20like that too. My shit stain this week.
- 2:10:23Oh, excuse me honey, I think you're supposed to ask me this.
- 2:10:25Question. Oh, yes, yes, yes.
- 2:10:27Thank you. What is your shit stain this
- 2:10:30week, Chris? My shit stain goes to Alice.
- 2:10:33I'm not sure what her last O'Sullivan, probably Alice
- 2:10:36Sullivan, whatever, you know, Robyn's had so many last names
- 2:10:38it's hard to tell, you know, with all of the credit card
- 2:10:40fraud and all of the alleged other things that she has done.
- 2:10:44But Alice, you get my shit stain
- 2:10:48earlier in the episode, the apple didn't fall far from the
- 2:10:52tree and Robyn's chin is a knock off the old block.
- 2:10:57Alice's chin is not quite as pronounced.
- 2:11:00Maybe it's because it's filled
- 2:11:03knows. I can't, I have no idea.
- 2:11:06I don't know about biology or anatomy or anything like that.
- 2:11:10Alice gave some sort of bullshit
- 2:11:13pretended to cry while doing it,
- 2:11:17It's Robyn's life, it's what Robyn does.
- 2:11:20And then she would chime in with
- 2:11:22Burgers that led nowhere and gave us no insight and provided
- 2:11:26no details into anything. So, Alice, while I didn't see
- 2:11:31you committing credit card fraud, while I didn't see you
- 2:11:34overspending at the store, while
- 2:11:38cheating, stealing, I do know that you probably participated
- 2:11:42in some cheating. Allegedly, you're getting my
- 2:11:44shit stain simply for giving birth to Robyn Brown.
- 2:11:50You deserve it, Robyn Brown. Oh, you know what?
- 2:11:53Also, Alice didn't look much like a bird.
- 2:11:55And that makes me go fuck you because you should look more
- 2:11:58like a bird. She looked like a budgie.
- 2:12:00What's a budgie? One of those little fat little
- 2:12:03budgie birds, although they are really cute so I don't know if
- 2:12:08I would call it. Let's take that back.
- 2:12:10You did look like a very unattractive bird.
- 2:12:15Really attractive bird, one without a beak.
- 2:12:19One that can't fly. Probably a dodo bird.
- 2:12:22Perhaps a Penguin with the smallest wings and the most
- 2:12:26rotund body and the lacking of
- 2:12:30So where Robyn came from? Not sure.
- 2:12:32But you definitely are the ugliest bird and you are my shit
- 2:12:35stain. And your turn, honey.
- 2:12:38My shit stain this week is going
- 2:12:44the entire family Ebola salmonella.
- 2:12:51I'm not quite sure what their thought process was, if there
- 2:12:56was any at all. It's going to go to Truly,
- 2:13:00because how dare you take the serving tongs and serve yourself
- 2:13:08up a little tiny slice of banana.
- 2:13:13Pop it in your mouth. But not only pop that banana
- 2:13:16slice in your mouth, you pop to the entire tongs into your
- 2:13:19little tiny mouth. Oh my God And I love you so much
- 2:13:23and I hate to do it but you're
- 2:13:26you might have caused some more shit stains to happen after the
- 2:13:29brunch because sharing them germs wasn't right, honey.
- 2:13:33Oh my God it's truly even out of
- 2:13:36She is so young and you are giving her a shit stain.
- 2:13:42Girl, this is scandalous. This is scandalous.
- 2:13:46You do realize that Truly's father didn't even know where
- 2:13:49the fuse box was in his own home
- 2:13:54stain? My God, girl.
- 2:13:57As someone who has been sick for
- 2:14:01my children don't know how to cover their own goddamn mouths
- 2:14:05when they cough and who try to drink out of every glass that
- 2:14:09I ever have in the home, yeah.
- 2:14:14my children for giving me this, I would.
- 2:14:17So truly, if you gave anyone in that family a cold after that
- 2:14:22banana slice incident, shame on you.
- 2:14:26Shame on you. Wow wow.
- 2:14:30I'm not sure if we've had a new low on this show, especially
- 2:14:32because the way we ended our last episode was like the
- 2:14:35weirdest ending I've ever had when recording anything in my
- 2:14:38life. So you know.
- 2:14:40I had to mix it up here and to
- 2:14:44It was shocking. I do have to give the editors
- 2:14:47kudos for leaving it in because it was the weirdest moment of.
- 2:14:50It was funny, not going to lie.
- 2:14:52It was really funny. And it just made me cringe so
- 2:14:56hard and think, how many times has somebody in that family just
- 2:15:05Yeah, like lose sushi rolls, you
- 2:15:07know? Well this I was going to say,
- 2:15:10she's not even one of Janelle's children so she can't blame
- 2:15:12Janelle for the sushi roll thing.
- 2:15:14God. Just.
- 2:15:16All convoluted. Bad protocol in the kitchens and
- 2:15:20the Brown family. That's all I got to say.
- 2:15:23Our keep sweet moment this week is a YouTube comment from Haley
- 2:15:28other letters and numbers. So we're just going to go with
- 2:15:30Haley cause Haley. Hi Haley.
- 2:15:32We can say Haley on a rewatch of
- 2:15:36A wife decides Haley let us know
- 2:15:41attached to a bass pro shops. So for those of you not familiar
- 2:15:45with Silverton or what we're talking about, this is a casino
- 2:15:49apparently in Las Vegas, apparently that Kimber and I had
- 2:15:52never heard of. And when we were making fun of
- 2:15:55guilt, the gift shop inside of
- 2:16:00family's wholesale My Sister Wife's Closet jewelry is
- 2:16:03available exclusively to the high end shoppers of the Vegas
- 2:16:08Strip. I mean, off, off, off Vegas
- 2:16:11Strip, who knows where it is. Haley lets us know that
- 2:16:13Silverton is also attached to a Bass Pro Shops and it really
- 2:16:18adds to the ambiance of the wholesale jewelry.
- 2:16:22It sure does. Thank you Haley for letting us
- 2:16:25know this detail. I never would have known myself
- 2:16:28unless I had of course traveled there to get my sister wife's
- 2:16:31jewelry wholesale from guilt inside of Silverton.
- 2:16:35I feel like contacting them and asking them if they have back
- 2:16:38stock of this wholesale jewelry and if we can have some.
- 2:16:43Haley, thank you so much for that tidbit.
- 2:16:46When I read that, it brought me so much joy in a weird way that
- 2:16:50I don't even know how to describe.
- 2:16:52Like literally very strange. I feel like actually when we got
- 2:16:57that comment, we either texted
- 2:17:00believe it? bass pro It totally makes sense.
- 2:17:05And I feel like if Bass Pro Shops ever files for bankruptcy,
- 2:17:09it's the Brown family curse and we get to blame them. 2027
- 2:17:13Lookout Bass Pro Shops. Lookout.
