- 0:16Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to episode one oh seven of
- 0:19Speaker 1: Cards and Categories. I am Mike cool Art from ras Ball,
- 0:22Speaker 1: joined as always by my very good friend Jeremy Burer,
- 0:26Speaker 1: also from ras Ball.
- 0:28Speaker 2: How are you doing tonight, buddy.
- 0:29Speaker 3: I'm doing well.
- 0:30Speaker 4: I'm a little sad the season is starting to widen down,
- 0:32Speaker 4: and like the playoff races aren't too exciting, so like
- 0:35Speaker 4: it's we're in a weird little role here, but this
- 0:37Speaker 4: is the sad time of the season where it's winding down.
- 0:39Speaker 4: But if you're like in those Dynosta leagues, it is
- 0:41Speaker 4: also the fun time to like try to steak the
- 0:42Speaker 4: weird things through and that's with everybody. So I'm hey,
- 0:45Speaker 4: I'm finding a little pleasure somewhere in the back of
- 0:47Speaker 4: the fantasy games right now. But it is it's sad
- 0:50Speaker 4: to see this season coming to a close here for
- 0:53Speaker 4: quite a few teams.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, we discussed it a little bit last
- 0:56Speaker 1: week in terms of the races being over, but honestly,
- 0:58Speaker 1: they've tightened up a little bit, and I mean, I don't.
- 1:00Speaker 3: Think there's gonna be too little bit.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Yeah, there's gonna be too much movement that the al West,
- 1:06Speaker 1: like the Wild card kind of battle there is the
- 1:10Speaker 1: most interesting one because between the Guardians and Royals, I
- 1:13Speaker 1: don't know if they've got the Jews to be able
- 1:15Speaker 1: to catch the Mariners and the Rangers. But Rangers have
- 1:17Speaker 1: banged up themselves too, so I always get that feeling.
- 1:21Speaker 1: I think the first week of football too. I don't
- 1:23Speaker 1: know about you, but like once that wave of NFL
- 1:26Speaker 1: football and fancy football kicks in, it, does you start
- 1:29Speaker 1: getting pret sad about the MLB season wrapping up soon?
- 1:33Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:34Speaker 4: This proper term pre said, I'm I'm mourning bean said
- 1:38Speaker 4: later when the season ends.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Yes, exactly, you know, very very focused in the moment.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Varies then of us.
- 1:44Speaker 1: But anyways, we're gonna cover some news and notes to
- 1:48Speaker 1: kick off here this show per usual, but our main
- 1:51Speaker 1: subject is gonna be a mock of the twenty twenty
- 1:54Speaker 1: six first round, So we're gonna do twelve picks between us.
- 1:57Speaker 1: We did this last year and I think had a
- 1:59Speaker 1: good good time with it and got a few insights.
- 2:02Speaker 1: So I think we've got a lot of similar names
- 2:05Speaker 1: but also some good variation on the back end of
- 2:09Speaker 1: the first round. I think we're going to find that
- 2:11Speaker 1: there's a pretty defining line as we've been prepping for
- 2:16Speaker 1: this and trying to figure out who we want to
- 2:19Speaker 1: put together, and I mean, the thing is, we're not
- 2:22Speaker 1: building a team. It kind of feels like that sometimes
- 2:24Speaker 1: when we did this mock draft. But we will have
- 2:26Speaker 1: to make each pick independently. I think we will find
- 2:30Speaker 1: that there is a cliff there. You can see it
- 2:32Speaker 1: a little bit within our rasball player ratings right now
- 2:36Speaker 1: on the season to date player ratings where there is
- 2:39Speaker 1: a tier that kind of is created in the first
- 2:42Speaker 1: round versus second round divide. So we'll see kind of
- 2:46Speaker 1: how that all settles. Again, if you are listening to
- 2:48Speaker 1: us at a first time, make sure rate and review
- 2:50Speaker 1: us wherever you can on Apple Podcasts, Spotify. It just
- 2:55Speaker 1: helps us disseminate the pod further, get into different channels,
- 2:59Speaker 1: and make sure to go raspball dot com check out
- 3:01Speaker 1: the subscriptions we got there. I do love the MLB subscription.
- 3:05Speaker 1: I don't know if I can exactly tout it for
- 3:07Speaker 1: the rest of the season because we've only got two
- 3:09Speaker 1: weeks left. But if you are looking for if it
- 3:11Speaker 1: would win you money in a league, to you know,
- 3:14Speaker 1: stream a player to be able to win a head
- 3:17Speaker 1: to head fantasy matchup. We've got some great tools between
- 3:20Speaker 1: the Streamminator and the hitter Tron that helps you make
- 3:22Speaker 1: those daily decisions. Certainly check out the football riding there too,
- 3:26Speaker 1: because I've gotten a few nuggets that have gone into
- 3:28Speaker 1: my football teams, which are very differently run from my
- 3:31Speaker 1: baseball teams. I don't know about you, but my football
- 3:34Speaker 1: teams are totally like Willy Nilly back at the Napkin
- 3:37Speaker 1: and very less on the analytical side.
- 3:41Speaker 4: I was gonna say, I don't think might even barely run.
- 3:45Speaker 4: I think I'm want to draft it this year, and
- 3:46Speaker 4: just said, let's see what happens.
- 3:49Speaker 3: So back to baseball.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Yeah, pick up whoever is projected for the most points
- 3:53Speaker 1: every weekend.
- 3:54Speaker 4: Yeah, that's exactly how I'm running, like Sunday morning, Sunday
- 3:57Speaker 4: morning quarterback for sure.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Here.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Okay, well, let's get to some of those news and notes.
- 4:01Speaker 1: It was a little bit of a slower week because
- 4:03Speaker 1: we've really gone through all the waves of the call
- 4:05Speaker 1: ups at this point that the players are pretty settled
- 4:08Speaker 1: in terms of where they're going to end up for
- 4:10Speaker 1: the season. You know, we might still see a bat
- 4:12Speaker 1: or a pitcher or two for some of these teams
- 4:14Speaker 1: that are going to the playoffs to see if they
- 4:16Speaker 1: can put them on a bench spot like hint, hint,
- 4:18Speaker 1: Kevin McGonagall, I think might fall into that a little bit.
- 4:21Speaker 1: But we've also today we're recording. On September tenth, they
- 4:25Speaker 1: announced the AFL rosters too, so that gives you a
- 4:27Speaker 1: little bit of an insight to not only players that
- 4:31Speaker 1: won't be making the call up this season, but who
- 4:35Speaker 1: is kind of on the precipice for spring training next year.
- 4:38Speaker 1: So check out those AFL rosters where you can. Before
- 4:41Speaker 1: we get into the draft, Like I said, let's get
- 4:44Speaker 1: into the news and notes.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Let's do it.
- 4:46Speaker 1: We've got the first one is Kyle Tucker getting on
- 4:50Speaker 1: the injured list with his calf issue. So this has
- 4:53Speaker 1: been lingering for a week or so and the Cubs
- 4:55Speaker 1: finally gave up and said, hey, let's put you on
- 4:57Speaker 1: the ie OL for a little bit and get you rested,
- 5:00Speaker 1: get you off the roster so that we can actually
- 5:02Speaker 1: use that roster space for something. Been another banged up year.
- 5:07Speaker 2: For Kyle Tucker.
- 5:08Speaker 1: So last year it was the contusion in his shin
- 5:11Speaker 1: that actually turned out to be a shattered kind of
- 5:14Speaker 1: broken hairline fracture bone. I don't know if we actually
- 5:17Speaker 1: got like the full diagnosis ever, is just kind of
- 5:20Speaker 1: a break of some sort in that shin. Now he's
- 5:23Speaker 1: had this calf issue. Before that he was battling through
- 5:27Speaker 1: the hand issue, So I know we discussed this a
- 5:30Speaker 1: little bit before with the broken hand, as he it
- 5:33Speaker 1: was announced just a couple of weeks ago that he
- 5:35Speaker 1: was actually even battling that for the Cubs. Whether or
- 5:38Speaker 1: not you were worried about Tucker going forward, this wants
- 5:41Speaker 1: a soft tissue injury. This is something that also got
- 5:45Speaker 1: Mike Trout pretty recently in terms of like same sort
- 5:50Speaker 1: of timeline. Kyle Tucker is twenty nine, going to be
- 5:52Speaker 1: a free agent this offseason. Any concern with this calf injury, now.
- 5:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, like for this year, it's done for
- 6:00Speaker 4: Kyle Tucker. Like I think that's that's clear. You know,
- 6:03Speaker 4: he's he's playing for the big contract.
- 6:05Speaker 3: At the end of the day.
- 6:06Speaker 4: He still had a decent season. I mean he thirty
- 6:08Speaker 4: three games, twenty two homers, twenty five steals, two seventy
- 6:11Speaker 4: Like he still was Kyle Tucker. He just was banged up,
- 6:15Speaker 4: and so I'm not really concerned long long term. I mean,
- 6:18Speaker 4: you gotta put a little asterisk by it right now
- 6:19Speaker 4: because it's like two seasons in a row, just like
- 6:21Speaker 4: a litany of injuries. But I really think that the
- 6:25Speaker 4: Cubs forced more out of him because he was on
- 6:27Speaker 4: you know this one year and to kind of kind
- 6:30Speaker 4: of deal with them that they instead of making sure
- 6:33Speaker 4: he got healthy and whatnot, that they were just trying
- 6:35Speaker 4: to wring the most value out of him. So yeah,
- 6:38Speaker 4: they're gonna try to get him healthy, get him back
- 6:40Speaker 4: for the playoff run. But long term, he's still a
- 6:43Speaker 4: thirty thirty bat to eighty hitter from me, one hundred ribbies,
- 6:47Speaker 4: hundred rbi, Like, he's still a core, core player. I
- 6:50Speaker 4: don't have big concerns long term. It's not like this
- 6:52Speaker 4: is a knee or a shoulder, you know, wrist injury
- 6:55Speaker 4: something like that, not a deal having a strained calf.
- 6:58Speaker 4: But like best and an off season, he'll be fine.
- 7:02Speaker 4: I'm not too terribly worried about Kyle Tucker.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean this one does give me a little
- 7:06Speaker 1: more pause than the others, just because of what we've
- 7:08Speaker 1: seen in terms of Mike Trout unravel on us recently.
- 7:11Speaker 1: That like especially, it gives me more pause for longer
- 7:15Speaker 1: term leagues. I think with Kyle Tucker, like as we
- 7:17Speaker 1: get into our mock first round, I think we will
- 7:20Speaker 1: find Kyle Tucker kind of smack dab in the in
- 7:24Speaker 1: the middle of it. So I guess we'll see where
- 7:26Speaker 1: he goes there. But the other component, though, is I
- 7:30Speaker 1: see what you're getting with the Cubs ducing this season
- 7:33Speaker 1: out of Tucker. I almost wonder if it's a little
- 7:35Speaker 1: bit Tucker hiding these things and trying to push through
- 7:39Speaker 1: and in the eyes of this big contract, because what
- 7:43Speaker 1: happens a lot is and we saw this I think
- 7:46Speaker 1: with Bryce Harper previously and with Juan Soto last year,
- 7:49Speaker 1: is that guys will kind of loafit a little bit
- 7:52Speaker 1: in the field to try to make sure they can
- 7:54Speaker 1: stay on the field and post. And I think Tucker
- 7:57Speaker 1: might have battled through that, and it is something maybe
- 7:59Speaker 1: I'm going to consider going forward in future drafts when
- 8:03Speaker 1: players are in contract years that hey, that's also a
- 8:07Speaker 1: flag of this guy's going to try to be on
- 8:10Speaker 1: the field as much as possible, and it actually might
- 8:12Speaker 1: be a hindrance to you if he's playing through an
- 8:15Speaker 1: injury the way Tucker has this season, Yeah.
- 8:17Speaker 4: I think it's a good point. It kind of depends
- 8:19Speaker 4: on where they've come. If they've been healthy, that's like
- 8:21Speaker 4: great for the production because they tend to seem like
- 8:24Speaker 4: performing those platform years. But if you've been battling some things,
- 8:27Speaker 4: maybe it's a little you know, you're not going to
- 8:29Speaker 4: keep the health. Because Tucker has never been one hundred
- 8:31Speaker 4: and sixty two ga guy. He's aways been one hundred
- 8:33Speaker 4: fifty game guy. He's always taken breathers, he's always got
- 8:36Speaker 4: times off, and if the Cubs weren't willing to or
- 8:38Speaker 4: he wasn't willing to take it, it could be something
- 8:41Speaker 4: else there.
- 8:41Speaker 3: So it's interesting.
- 8:42Speaker 4: Like I said, I'm not terribly concerned, but there's an asterisk.
- 8:45Speaker 4: There's an asterisk by his name right now going to
- 8:47Speaker 4: the next year. So it's a little be our conversation
- 8:50Speaker 4: a little bit later will will be interesting with mister Tucker.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Yes, I think.
- 8:54Speaker 1: So we're going to stay in Wrigleyville with our next
- 8:57Speaker 1: injury as the closer. Daniel Palencia was also placed on
- 9:00Speaker 1: the IL with a shoulder strain there, and this dude
- 9:04Speaker 1: has been lights out considering he was free back in April.
- 9:08Speaker 1: You know, when he kind of ascended through that Cub's
- 9:11Speaker 1: bullpen and it stuck all season. A three to zeroer
- 9:15Speaker 1: over fifty one innings this season, with twenty two saves
- 9:18Speaker 1: and a ten point four K nine. He kept the
- 9:21Speaker 1: walks in check, which were the big bugaboo for him
- 9:24Speaker 1: coming into the season, and even with it being a
- 9:27Speaker 1: fastball slider, proved that he could make it work as
- 9:30Speaker 1: a closer. Was fantastic. Probably done for the season, but
- 9:34Speaker 1: at this point, I think he's also probably cemented his
- 9:38Speaker 1: role going forward for the Cubs in twenty twenty six,
- 9:40Speaker 1: unless they do make a splashy acquisition. But I mean,
- 9:44Speaker 1: Palencia was so good for them, I don't know if
- 9:46Speaker 1: they can in this situation, this late.
- 9:50Speaker 2: In the season.
- 9:51Speaker 1: What are you doing with closers like this to chase
- 9:54Speaker 1: the guys around him, because it is probably a situation
- 9:59Speaker 1: where you're running on fumes in terms of fab dollars.
- 10:02Speaker 1: You've got a few options here, but you've got a
- 10:07Speaker 1: couple of ways the Cups could go in terms of
- 10:09Speaker 1: both Brad Keller and Andrew Kittridge being in the back
- 10:12Speaker 1: of that bullpen, they could They've also thrown saves at
- 10:14Speaker 1: Drew Pomerans this season, but any of those guys really
- 10:18Speaker 1: stand out to you, and just kind of what's your
- 10:20Speaker 1: journal strategy in terms of fab building this late. Is
- 10:23Speaker 1: it just kind of you've already burnt through it and
- 10:26Speaker 1: you're you're hoping that you can maybe get one of
- 10:28Speaker 1: these guys if you need the saves or is it
- 10:30Speaker 1: of more of a hey, this is exactly what you
- 10:33Speaker 1: saved a few bucks for at the end of the season.
- 10:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Well, well for me, like I generally burned through it.
- 10:39Speaker 4: Like I'm one of those guys that says you have
- 10:41Speaker 4: fab dollars. If you go home of the season with
- 10:44Speaker 4: any money left, you've probably played it wrong. And so
- 10:47Speaker 4: if I'm sitting here on you know, mid September and
- 10:51Speaker 4: I'm still debating how much to bid my fab dollars,
- 10:53Speaker 4: I'm probably not too proud of myself because I means
- 10:55Speaker 4: I probably miss an opportunity earlier in the season when
- 10:57Speaker 4: I could actually get something.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Out of the guy for board more than two weeks.
- 11:00Speaker 4: So you know, I'm I'm playing on fumes here, I'm
- 11:03Speaker 4: digging deep into bullpens. I'm I'm putting three or four
- 11:06Speaker 4: nominations in for different guys, just trying to stack and
- 11:08Speaker 4: to see who I can get, and there's enough you know,
- 11:12Speaker 4: noise at this point in the year, you're just hoping
- 11:14Speaker 4: them back into something. But if I look at this
- 11:16Speaker 4: bullpen specifically, I want to say, I don't think it's
- 11:20Speaker 4: too hard to see where where this is going to go,
- 11:23Speaker 4: at least at least for me. And that's Brad Keller.
- 11:27Speaker 4: Keller has been fantastic. He has not given up a
- 11:29Speaker 4: run since July twelfth, and that's two months basically. At
- 11:35Speaker 4: this point, he's twenty innings twenty five k's across that
- 11:38Speaker 4: that time frame. You know, he has given up three
- 11:43Speaker 4: hits and twenty to thirty innings over that timeframe. He's
- 11:47Speaker 4: walked double the guys of the hits he's given up
- 11:50Speaker 4: in a six So he's been unbelievable. And I don't
- 11:56Speaker 4: know if it's just luck or if it's something else,
- 11:59Speaker 4: but but he, to me is the clear guy. He's
- 12:02Speaker 4: been trusted, he's he's he's been you know, right in
- 12:04Speaker 4: front of pollenca the most of the time. So he's
- 12:07Speaker 4: the guy. Don't get me wrong, I love Cattridge, proma
- 12:09Speaker 4: against has a ton of nastiness and only just where
- 12:12Speaker 4: that arm is gonna fall off tomorrow. So I'm I'm
- 12:16Speaker 4: pretty set here on Keller. If you if you have
- 12:18Speaker 4: the fab dollars, he's the guy, uh for me, But
- 12:22Speaker 4: he's gonna get snatched up pretty much everywhere Polancy. At
- 12:25Speaker 4: this point, he's off my radar completely.
- 12:26Speaker 3: He's dropped. I'm not I'm not playing around with him
- 12:28Speaker 3: the rest of the season.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, I think that's the good read there. On
- 12:32Speaker 2: the Cubs bullpen situation.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Next injury we have is a two pack, but we're
- 12:37Speaker 1: gonna focus on the first one that I'm gonna say first.
- 12:40Speaker 1: In Philadelphia, the Phillies put both Trey Turner and Alec
- 12:44Speaker 1: Bohm on the injured list. Turner went down with a
- 12:47Speaker 1: hamstring injury. Boom is down with a shoulder injury. I believe, yes,
- 12:52Speaker 1: it's a cyst in his shoulder, so a little bit
- 12:55Speaker 1: of like a different twist uh Rhyme's a cyst. That's
- 12:58Speaker 1: kind of fun. And so Turner is really the one
- 13:02Speaker 1: I want to focus on here because I was talking
- 13:05Speaker 1: about how there are a lot of names that could
- 13:09Speaker 1: sneak into the back of a first round for twenty
- 13:11Speaker 1: twenty six, and sneakily. I think Turner is going to
- 13:15Speaker 1: be in that discussion. I'll see if he gets popped
- 13:18Speaker 1: in our mock draft that's going to be coming up
- 13:20Speaker 1: here soon. But it's been a really great season of
- 13:23Speaker 1: bounce back season for Turner. Fifteen homers, thirty six dolen bases,
- 13:27Speaker 1: ninety four runs scored, a three h five average, a
- 13:30Speaker 1: one to twenty five WRC plus, which is actually in
- 13:33Speaker 1: line with last season, but the stolen bases popped back,
- 13:36Speaker 1: which was really huge for Turner. So definitely a bummer
- 13:40Speaker 1: to see him go down with that hamstring strain because
- 13:42Speaker 1: I think that's a little bit of like maybe he
- 13:44Speaker 1: was nurse sing something previously last year, or you know,
- 13:47Speaker 1: this could make him hesitant going into twenty twenty six
- 13:51Speaker 1: if you know this hamstring injury keeps him out for
- 13:54Speaker 1: any part of this Philadelphia playoff run and he gets
- 13:58Speaker 1: FOMO sitting in the in the dugouts. So we haven't
- 14:01Speaker 1: actually talked much trade Turner just because he's kind of
- 14:04Speaker 1: fallen into the gap of being really healthy but also
- 14:07Speaker 1: not having a standout month where we've gotten to talked
- 14:10Speaker 1: about him for our PC Player of the Month. So
- 14:14Speaker 1: what's your take on Turner going forward? He is going
- 14:16Speaker 1: to be turning thirty three in twenty twenty six, still
- 14:21Speaker 1: one of the speediest dudes in the league, plays in
- 14:23Speaker 1: a great lineup. But have you boosted Turner? Maybe back
- 14:27Speaker 1: up your rankings going into twenty twenty six.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I think he absolutely have.
- 14:31Speaker 4: Like there's still a little grain of AsSalt because his
- 14:34Speaker 4: game is driven so much by the speed. Is that
- 14:36Speaker 4: at this point he's probably a twenty homer Guys played
- 14:40Speaker 4: what you want one hundred runs. The RBIs based on
- 14:45Speaker 4: the last few years where he's been batting. The order
- 14:48Speaker 4: is going to be a little bit of drain. That's
- 14:50Speaker 4: just not gonna be his cup of tea. And so
- 14:53Speaker 4: it comes down to, you know, how many steals does
- 14:56Speaker 4: he get, and if he's doing what he did this
- 14:57Speaker 4: year where he's a thirty to forty steel guy, he's
- 15:00Speaker 4: in the conversation in those top few rounds, I think
- 15:03Speaker 4: you hit it right on. I was thinking the same
- 15:04Speaker 4: thing like I was as I was looking at the
- 15:06Speaker 4: first round. We were talking about, like I was surprised
- 15:08Speaker 4: that Turner was like like sneaking onto the radars. I
- 15:11Speaker 4: was at least contemplating what I was gonna do that
- 15:13Speaker 4: first round.
- 15:14Speaker 3: You know, maybe a spoiler here.
- 15:15Speaker 4: I don't think he's made it into my top twelve
- 15:18Speaker 4: per se, but he was in the conversation, which was surprising.
- 15:23Speaker 3: But I do.
- 15:24Speaker 4: I do look at him and I wouldn't be shocked
- 15:25Speaker 4: to see him have a fifteen twenty season with seventy
- 15:28Speaker 4: rbs and ninety runs and hits two seventy, and I'm like,
- 15:33Speaker 4: it's kind of let down. So I think that we're
- 15:36Speaker 4: on that press of this for Turner where he's still
- 15:37Speaker 4: gonna be incredibly valuable, but I this year feels like
- 15:41Speaker 4: it might be like what you're hoping for best case
- 15:43Speaker 4: scenario and taking eighty five percent of it is what
- 15:46Speaker 4: you have to plan on going forward. So glad to
- 15:50Speaker 4: see him doing well like he really if you look
- 15:53Speaker 4: at the numbers, the last like five years, has been
- 15:56Speaker 4: the same exact guy the whole time, but it's just
- 15:59Speaker 4: he's he seems to be very streaky anymore, which is
- 16:02Speaker 4: causing some concern, and the power has dropped off a
- 16:05Speaker 4: little bit. But I still like Turner, still think there's
- 16:07Speaker 4: value going forward, but the aging curve is at some
- 16:10Speaker 4: point it's get to kick it in because he can't
- 16:12Speaker 4: have one hundred percentile sprint speed for the rest of
- 16:15Speaker 4: his career, but he maintained it this year.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 16:18Speaker 1: And if you are thinking, wow, these dudes are are
- 16:21Speaker 1: bananas talking about Trey Turner and maybe in a first
- 16:24Speaker 1: round spot thirteenth right now in our Player Raider for
- 16:26Speaker 1: twenty twenty five, So it's not out of question. And
- 16:30Speaker 1: like you said, it is very much speed driven with
- 16:32Speaker 1: the thirty six stolen bases, because without those stolen bases,
- 16:35Speaker 1: he would be this next guy we're talking about that
- 16:37Speaker 1: it's hitting the shelf in Toronto shortstop Boba Schet.
- 16:40Speaker 2: You peel off those steals.
- 16:42Speaker 1: From Trey Turner and you get pretty much exactly Boba Schett,
- 16:46Speaker 1: who I mean, no bones about him.
- 16:48Speaker 2: It's been a great season.
- 16:49Speaker 1: He's slashed three eleven three fifty seven forty three, one
- 16:53Speaker 1: thirty three WRC plus with eighteen bombs, ninety four RBI,
- 16:57Speaker 1: only four steals. Another guy who's going to be a
- 17:00Speaker 1: free agent here going into the offseason. But I'm a
- 17:03Speaker 1: little bit worried because this is exactly I think what
- 17:06Speaker 1: you were talking about with Turner. Turner clocks in at
- 17:09Speaker 1: the thirteenth overall player and our Player Raider because of
- 17:12Speaker 1: those steals while Boba Schett is hanging out all the
- 17:16Speaker 1: way back forty fifth in our player Raider because he
- 17:19Speaker 1: just doesn't have the speed and doesn't offer that category
- 17:24Speaker 1: to be able to hang with the big guys at
- 17:26Speaker 1: the top of our player Raider. It feels like this
- 17:29Speaker 1: is gonna be an easy cell going the next year
- 17:31Speaker 1: because there's gonna be lots of people I think pushing
- 17:33Speaker 1: Bobaschet into like back into the second round, into the
- 17:37Speaker 1: third round, and forty fifth, that's a fourth round player.
- 17:41Speaker 4: It is, and I think that's where he belongs. He's
- 17:42Speaker 4: probably a fifth or sixth rounder for me. Like it's
- 17:45Speaker 4: at the end of the day, like you know, he's
- 17:47Speaker 4: hit three to eleven this year his baby of jump
- 17:50Speaker 4: back up or his historical norms, and so you know,
- 17:52Speaker 4: you can convince me he's a two ninety three hundred hitter,
- 17:56Speaker 4: but you know, the overall production is still gonna be
- 18:01Speaker 4: that like ninety ninety from a run RBI perspective and
- 18:03Speaker 4: copying out at twenty homers like and it's just not
- 18:05Speaker 4: going to steal the basis. So like that profile only
- 18:08Speaker 4: goes so far at the end of the day in
- 18:11Speaker 4: our game today, and so yeah, don't get me wrong.
- 18:14Speaker 4: You go early with like Coyle Rally type of guy
- 18:18Speaker 4: who's the bad average, he's gonna be in the tank.
- 18:21Speaker 4: You might have to target a bowochet to kind of
- 18:23Speaker 4: pick some of that up and be willing to pick
- 18:25Speaker 4: up some of that. But I'm still well to your point.
- 18:29Speaker 4: I think that the hype trains, like Bobaschet has always
- 18:31Speaker 4: been a fan favorite and so like it. Just it
- 18:33Speaker 4: seems to play in the hype train every fantasy season
- 18:35Speaker 4: he finally gets it. I've been selling Bobashett the last
- 18:37Speaker 4: like four years coming in and I've not been disappointed
- 18:40Speaker 4: with it yet. I feel like it's gonna be the
- 18:41Speaker 4: same next year. Like it's just the draft price just
- 18:44Speaker 4: keeps going too high.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Yeah, except for maybe this year the draft price was
- 18:48Speaker 1: much more reasonable and you I still sold him this year.
- 18:50Speaker 3: I was wrong. It's fine.
- 18:52Speaker 1: The other guy, I'm thinking he'd be great to pay
- 18:54Speaker 1: her with this Ellie. That's a great pairing I think
- 18:56Speaker 1: for Boba Schett a little extra power, you still get
- 18:59Speaker 1: the steel, and then you kind of pair that batting
- 19:03Speaker 1: average up. That's a great one two punch if you're
- 19:06Speaker 1: going to twenty twenty six drafts.
- 19:08Speaker 4: I like Ellie, throw it, throw in the sheet and
- 19:12Speaker 4: then give me a Chandler something on the back of it.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Look at you.
- 19:15Speaker 3: That would be that would be fun.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Yeah, it's the uh maybe a Matt Walner too. You
- 19:21Speaker 1: got to get your power somewhere, so you're just gonna
- 19:23Speaker 1: all the misfit toys put them all? Yes, exactly, Okay,
- 19:26Speaker 1: next news and notes item we have is going to Boston,
- 19:31Speaker 1: so Dustin May being put on the shelf there for
- 19:34Speaker 1: an elbow issue. I'm never touching Dustin May.
- 19:37Speaker 3: I was ready.
- 19:39Speaker 4: Could you feel my eyes roll in the podcast?
- 19:42Speaker 3: Is that a thing? Because I'm like, yeah, why are
- 19:44Speaker 3: we even talking abou Dustin May.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just I don't think it's ever gonna come back,
- 19:49Speaker 1: and it's just too much funk. He needs to be
- 19:51Speaker 1: a full time reliever and maybe find a way to
- 19:54Speaker 1: stay healthy. Then I'll be in at that point, I guess.
- 19:56Speaker 1: So maybe that's where I'm back in. That's actually not
- 19:58Speaker 1: who I wanted to focus on, because in his stead,
- 20:00Speaker 1: the Boston Red Sox promoted Connelly Early, who absolutely shredded
- 20:06Speaker 1: the A's in Sacramento in his debut yesterday, five innings
- 20:10Speaker 1: eleven k's one strikeout, five hits, didn't allow a run,
- 20:15Speaker 1: fifty five percent ground ball rate, which has been really
- 20:18Speaker 1: one of his hallmarks coming through the miners is a
- 20:21Speaker 1: fifty percent ground ball rate. This is a guy who
- 20:25Speaker 1: I've been on all season, Like I've had him on
- 20:27Speaker 1: all my watch lists in all of my leagues and stuff.
- 20:30Speaker 2: I didn't think the Red.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Sox would dip into bringing him up yet this season
- 20:35Speaker 1: just because he was a twenty twenty three fifth round pick.
- 20:39Speaker 1: He had started the season at Double A and just
- 20:42Speaker 1: recently was promoted to promote to Triple A. But it
- 20:45Speaker 1: looks like all systems go right now for Connolly. Early
- 20:48Speaker 1: after that debut, going to be lined up to face
- 20:51Speaker 1: the Athletics again for his next start, which will be
- 20:54Speaker 1: interesting to see if they pick up something off this
- 20:57Speaker 1: crafty lefty. But he's got a He actually threw five pitches.
- 21:01Speaker 1: He's got a four pitch mix when he was down
- 21:03Speaker 1: in the minors, be through five in his debut. Most
- 21:06Speaker 1: of them, all of them except for the slider, clocked.
- 21:08Speaker 2: In at above one.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Hundred on the stuff plus scale. Were you putting early
- 21:13Speaker 1: in with kind of all the other mishmash of players
- 21:16Speaker 1: we've talked about recently in terms of Jonah Thong, Brandon Sprote,
- 21:21Speaker 1: especially his teammate Peyton Toley. Uh, where do you put
- 21:25Speaker 1: early kind of in your mix of the rankings of
- 21:27Speaker 1: all those new arms that have been coming up.
- 21:30Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I was, you know, surprised to see
- 21:32Speaker 4: him called up, but like you see it see why,
- 21:36Speaker 4: Like the strikeouts are there, the round balls are there,
- 21:38Speaker 4: the control is a little questionable, and so that's the
- 21:41Speaker 4: piece I want to see what really happens with it.
- 21:43Speaker 3: But it's a deep pitch mix.
- 21:45Speaker 4: Uh, the secondaries are good, and that plays up when
- 21:49Speaker 4: your fastball is not nearly as strong as will ever
- 21:51Speaker 4: rely on that. So if I look at that group,
- 21:53Speaker 4: he's probably towards the bottom of the group just because
- 21:56Speaker 4: there's so much potential like the tongs and the klaans
- 21:59Speaker 4: and the totally there. But I do have above Brandon
- 22:02Speaker 4: sprout at this point, and if the control sticks, like,
- 22:06Speaker 4: that's the piece I want to see, is what It's
- 22:08Speaker 4: really hard to tell sometimes in the minors, these guys
- 22:10Speaker 4: that are like he's a three three and a half
- 22:13Speaker 4: walk per nine kind of guy, and he has such
- 22:17Speaker 4: an array of stuff like you it's really hard to
- 22:19Speaker 4: tell how much he was honing his craft, playing with
- 22:22Speaker 4: pitches things like that and trying to figure things out.
- 22:25Speaker 3: But now he's in the majors.
- 22:26Speaker 4: And he's got a pitch, and it is the control
- 22:30Speaker 4: better than what those walk numbers represent, And that's the
- 22:33Speaker 4: big question. If it is, this is good, This is
- 22:35Speaker 4: a really, really good profile. I think you should be
- 22:38Speaker 4: snapping them up if you're looking to get some starts
- 22:40Speaker 4: at the end of the season. Here, I'm not thrilled
- 22:42Speaker 4: they have to face the Athletics again back to back
- 22:45Speaker 4: like that. That's probably the worst case scenario for him
- 22:47Speaker 4: for you know, one team trying to figure him out. Honestly,
- 22:50Speaker 4: for fancy managers looking at it next year is probably
- 22:53Speaker 4: a great read.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Is can the league adjust to.
- 22:55Speaker 4: Him after you see him one time playing with all
- 22:58Speaker 4: that junk that he throws up there? Can you just him,
- 23:00Speaker 4: you know, sit on the right pitches and make make
- 23:02Speaker 4: hard contact. But it definitely didn't look like it in
- 23:04Speaker 4: the debut, So I got him up there in the list.
- 23:07Speaker 4: I'm not this isn't like a must must add for
- 23:10Speaker 4: me at this point of the season, But there's a
- 23:12Speaker 4: lot of worse ads out there right now. Than than Early,
- 23:15Speaker 4: So it'll be fun to watch to see what happens
- 23:18Speaker 4: here with the Red Sox, like a young up and
- 23:21Speaker 4: coming rotation with Totally in early here.
- 23:23Speaker 3: This is this is kind of fun.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean you pair it with Bao there too
- 23:27Speaker 1: and Crochet. It's got a lot of good pieces together.
- 23:30Speaker 1: I think I'm a tick higher than you on on
- 23:32Speaker 1: early that. I I think I've got him above totally,
- 23:36Speaker 1: just because Totally's been really struggling with the control and
- 23:40Speaker 1: just you can see it even in the location, plus
- 23:44Speaker 1: that comes along with the stuff plus ratings that totally's
- 23:47Speaker 1: not been able to square it up. And especially you
- 23:50Speaker 1: put a guy like that who throws that hard in Fenway,
- 23:53Speaker 1: often there's gonna be a couple of games where he
- 23:56Speaker 1: just like gets absolutely annihilated by right handed for a
- 24:01Speaker 1: decent stretch. You know, they just tee off on him.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Where you've got a little more craftiness in early, which
- 24:07Speaker 1: I like, he's got a really really solid change up
- 24:09Speaker 1: that's kind of his calling card and I think he
- 24:11Speaker 1: can keep people guessing a little bit more that. Yeah,
- 24:14Speaker 1: I think it's it's a little bit of where like
- 24:17Speaker 1: certainly all the like stuffed metrics and stuff back up totally.
- 24:21Speaker 1: But like I think early might be a little more
- 24:23Speaker 1: polished picture, which is why they brought them up and
- 24:26Speaker 1: felt comfortable throwing him right into the throes of this
- 24:28Speaker 1: this playoff race here in Boston.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Yep.
- 24:31Speaker 4: Well, we will definitely see. But there's there's not a
- 24:33Speaker 4: wrong choice right here. These guys look good and I
- 24:36Speaker 4: do love the fact we've talked on the spot many
- 24:38Speaker 4: times before. I love bringing up young pictures when they're
- 24:41Speaker 4: being successful in the minors and not like playing around.
- 24:44Speaker 4: When they're successful, they can show to the upper levels,
- 24:46Speaker 4: bring them up and see what they can do.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's a good call. Okay.
- 24:51Speaker 1: Next injury we've got is to Sean Murphy, Atlanta Braves catcher,
- 24:55Speaker 1: who is down with surgery for a torn labram in
- 24:58Speaker 1: his hip. Where uh it's been rough. I think he's
- 25:02Speaker 1: been playing with it for a while because you can
- 25:05Speaker 1: just see like he was tearing it up for a
- 25:08Speaker 1: hot minute there back, you know, around the All Star break.
- 25:12Speaker 1: But let me see, you can kind of see almost
- 25:15Speaker 1: I'll just cut it off at the bar break. One
- 25:18Speaker 1: two seventy seven eight five slash line. This a forty
- 25:21Speaker 1: two WRC plus has not hit. It did not hit
- 25:24Speaker 1: a homer in the second half after the All Star Break,
- 25:27Speaker 1: where you know, the Braves were really getting a lot
- 25:29Speaker 1: of offense out of the combo in June into the
- 25:34Speaker 1: All Star break with using Murphy in Baldwin. So they'll
- 25:38Speaker 1: have to do that going forward, considering Murphy's still got
- 25:41Speaker 1: quite a few years.
- 25:42Speaker 3: Left, so hopefully they think that extension.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Yeah, no, especially that deal with the way Baldwin has
- 25:49Speaker 1: kind of popped about nowhere, like he could totally be
- 25:51Speaker 1: their everyday catcher. And I mean with Murphy, are you
- 25:55Speaker 1: what are you doing with them next year? Because it
- 25:57Speaker 1: is like he was good when he was playing, Like
- 26:00Speaker 1: we talked about it over the summer, he was just
- 26:02Speaker 1: like hitting piss missiles for a good month when him
- 26:06Speaker 1: and Drake Baldwin looked like Batman and Robbin there, but
- 26:10Speaker 1: it fell apart. He's been really banged up now for
- 26:12Speaker 1: two seasons between the oblique and twenty twenty four. He
- 26:17Speaker 1: had a fractured rib cage in this year before going
- 26:21Speaker 1: down with this hip issue. Is the thirty year old
- 26:24Speaker 1: Sean Murphy actually going to be turning thirty one in
- 26:27Speaker 1: October on oh on my anniversary? Nice and so is
- 26:35Speaker 1: the runway running out here for Sean Murphy.
- 26:37Speaker 3: For you, I think it.
- 26:38Speaker 4: Is like I checked the birth certificate on this one,
- 26:41Speaker 4: like thirty year old thirty seven year old Sean Murphy.
- 26:43Speaker 3: I'm not sure, but.
- 26:46Speaker 4: It's it's been a few years now that he just
- 26:50Speaker 4: seems to be struggling to stay healthy. But even what
- 26:52Speaker 4: he was, he always struggled with production. He's not the
- 26:55Speaker 4: fastest guy. Maybe he's not been the clutchest hitter, just
- 26:58Speaker 4: always had some really good power. And the fact that
- 27:00Speaker 4: now the batting everage is really really dropped off, It's
- 27:04Speaker 4: it's tough, Like I don't think you can fully ride
- 27:06Speaker 4: them off because I think the beginning of the year
- 27:08Speaker 4: is true Sean Murphy like the potential of them, and
- 27:11Speaker 4: he probably was playing hurt the second half of the year,
- 27:13Speaker 4: So I think it's that's fair. But with the way
- 27:15Speaker 4: the catcher positions developed, I think I have to have
- 27:18Speaker 4: him outside my top twelve. I think I have to,
- 27:21Speaker 4: and he's now on that like let's say eighteen to
- 27:26Speaker 4: twenty four and the two catcher league kind of kind
- 27:29Speaker 4: of position where if I have them, I'm not terridist
- 27:33Speaker 4: to winning because I'm gonna get some homers out of him.
- 27:35Speaker 3: I'm gonna get some value and he's gonna.
- 27:37Speaker 4: Play pretty much every day, but I'm not too happy
- 27:41Speaker 4: about it because he's draining me in a number of
- 27:44Speaker 4: spots and so he's a warm body. He's got some value,
- 27:47Speaker 4: but I really just don't want to play that card
- 27:50Speaker 4: at this point.
- 27:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's totally fair given to all the
- 27:53Speaker 1: talent in the catcher pool. So I'm right there with you.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Let's move on to another kind of old fogie who
- 27:58Speaker 1: went down and hit the ele this week.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Kind of.
- 28:02Speaker 1: I don't know if it's coincidental with after he locked
- 28:05Speaker 1: up the two years with the Royals at the All
- 28:10Speaker 1: Star not the All Star Break, at the trade deadline,
- 28:12Speaker 1: that Seth Lugo then has really fallen apart. I mean, actually,
- 28:16Speaker 1: this is another guy that fell apart at the All
- 28:17Speaker 1: Star break. Since the All Star Break, he has pitched
- 28:21Speaker 1: forty four and a third innings before hitting the ale
- 28:25Speaker 1: seven fifty one ra after somebody who had been, you know,
- 28:29Speaker 1: a threes ish guy for the past couple of years,
- 28:32Speaker 1: just to be able to that's it unwounds so fast
- 28:37Speaker 1: for Seth Lugo. But that's what happens when you don't
- 28:39Speaker 1: have quite the stuff and you are relying on the
- 28:42Speaker 1: craftiness that if if you can't spot it up, you're
- 28:46Speaker 1: gonna get teed up pretty quickly. So he, like I said,
- 28:49Speaker 1: he is thirty five here. It has been a lot
- 28:52Speaker 1: of great work and people haven't really been trusting him
- 28:55Speaker 1: in drafts the past couple of years. It's been a
- 28:58Speaker 1: nice kind of buying opportunity for me where I've added
- 29:02Speaker 1: Seth Lugo in spots and used it. But I think
- 29:05Speaker 1: the train ride might be over on Seth Luga as well.
- 29:08Speaker 2: What do you think?
- 29:09Speaker 3: I think you're right.
- 29:10Speaker 4: I don't think I was actually on the train at
- 29:12Speaker 4: all with you. I may have just been watching as
- 29:15Speaker 4: that one passed by. I think the you know, Seth
- 29:18Speaker 4: Lugo or Bagley op, I think is the.
- 29:20Speaker 3: Question I got right now.
- 29:22Speaker 4: Both guys are like, hey, these are under the radar
- 29:24Speaker 4: guys that give you some value and you can you know,
- 29:26Speaker 4: get some innings in them, and then like like imploded,
- 29:29Speaker 4: like Homer Barrage. I mean, across that time period he
- 29:34Speaker 4: had six games where he gave up multiple homers, not
- 29:38Speaker 4: just six games are give homers multiple homers like that
- 29:41Speaker 4: they moved the fences in or something there in Kansas City, and.
- 29:44Speaker 3: That's really really hurt Lugo.
- 29:46Speaker 4: But yeah, I maybe there's a back end buy an
- 29:49Speaker 4: opportunity here at the end end of the draft next
- 29:51Speaker 4: year if you're just looking for.
- 29:52Speaker 3: Some bulk innings. Seth Lugo always seems to find.
- 29:56Speaker 4: Seems to be the guy that, like you finally get
- 29:58Speaker 4: out on him and all of a sudden he rolls
- 29:59Speaker 4: off like two months of value. And then if it's
- 30:01Speaker 4: just you gotta jump off the train at the right time,
- 30:04Speaker 4: and that's such a hard, hard game to play.
- 30:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I do also wonder too if there's a factor
- 30:09Speaker 1: of like that division around him is getting a little
- 30:13Speaker 1: bit better. You know that Tiger's offense is really good,
- 30:16Speaker 1: the White Sox is not. They have not been a
- 30:18Speaker 1: lineup to sneeze at here over the past couple months,
- 30:20Speaker 1: and like it's just harder to find the opportunities to
- 30:24Speaker 1: stream against the Ale Central the way that you could
- 30:26Speaker 1: in the past with Seth Lugo. So something to keep
- 30:28Speaker 1: in mind going into draft season next year.
- 30:30Speaker 2: I'm sure I won't fully quit him.
- 30:32Speaker 1: I'm sure he's gonna end up this Like the last
- 30:34Speaker 1: picture on a couple of rosters here and there, but
- 30:36Speaker 1: certainly feel free to cut bait from where you might
- 30:39Speaker 1: have him and not worry about it being anything close
- 30:43Speaker 1: to where he was in the top three. Cy Young
- 30:45Speaker 1: you know last year, Okay, last thing we've got. We're
- 30:49Speaker 1: staying in that ale central. We're going to Detroit. Kyle Finnegan,
- 30:52Speaker 1: the closer closer there is on the IL with a
- 30:55Speaker 1: right abductor strain grade one, has been absolutely lights out
- 31:01Speaker 1: since arriving in Detroit. Where out of nowhere, just decide
- 31:06Speaker 1: he's going to be a twelve K nine pitcher. He
- 31:09Speaker 1: had not allowed to run in fourteen and thirty innings
- 31:12Speaker 1: or an earned run that is over fourteen and third
- 31:14Speaker 1: innings with the Tigers. Looks like he's going to be
- 31:18Speaker 1: locked in with them for another year.
- 31:21Speaker 2: Is that right?
- 31:21Speaker 1: Yeah, he's an arbitration still, so great opportunity if you've
- 31:25Speaker 1: got him, I think for dynasty leagues, because he's going
- 31:29Speaker 1: to be around in Detroite again for another season. Or
- 31:33Speaker 1: is Do you think there's a chance that Finigan morphs
- 31:36Speaker 1: back into what he was in Washington? Do you think
- 31:39Speaker 1: the Tigers unlocked something or is that more of like
- 31:42Speaker 1: a lucky streak and we just saw like the best
- 31:46Speaker 1: month of Kyle Finigan's life.
- 31:49Speaker 3: Well two things.
- 31:50Speaker 4: I thought fin again was going to be a free agent,
- 31:52Speaker 4: am I Am?
- 31:53Speaker 3: I wrong on that check.
- 31:56Speaker 4: According to Italy Tradler rumors, he is a free agent
- 31:59Speaker 4: this year, and so I could be wrong because in
- 32:03Speaker 4: fangrafts and it's impossible to reap there.
- 32:04Speaker 2: You're correct, You're right.
- 32:06Speaker 1: I was looking. Yeah, he's just in his last year
- 32:08Speaker 1: of arbitration. My bad, everybody, yep.
- 32:10Speaker 4: So but to that point, yeah, injury, I'm not too concerned.
- 32:15Speaker 4: But Finigan's actually like turned a corner here and he
- 32:17Speaker 4: made a pitch mixchange. That's what's interesting. He is throwing
- 32:21Speaker 4: the splitter an insane amount of the time. I don't
- 32:24Speaker 4: know if you've looked at this, but he with Washington,
- 32:27Speaker 4: he was a fastball guy seventy sixty five seventy percent
- 32:32Speaker 4: of the time this year sixty six percent of the time,
- 32:34Speaker 4: and then he backed it up with his splitter in
- 32:37Speaker 4: the mid twenty percent of the time, and then he
- 32:39Speaker 4: just decided to throw a slider like five percent of
- 32:41Speaker 4: the time.
- 32:42Speaker 3: He has taken that.
- 32:43Speaker 4: Splitter from thirty percent with Washington's here to fifty percent
- 32:46Speaker 4: with Detroit, he is throwing that thing all the time,
- 32:49Speaker 4: has a better stuff. Plus his fastball is just average,
- 32:52Speaker 4: his splitter is nasty, and he is.
- 32:54Speaker 3: Leading into that more and more.
- 32:56Speaker 4: And don't get me wrong, he's had some luck and
- 32:58Speaker 4: some other things. Strand rates are you know, perfect and
- 33:01Speaker 4: all that kind of stuff, But his his FIP is
- 33:06Speaker 4: xi Ara's x FIP with Detroit are all like one
- 33:08Speaker 4: and a half.
- 33:09Speaker 3: He has just been nothing unbelievable with them.
- 33:12Speaker 4: So I actually really like thinking going forward, I think
- 33:15Speaker 4: that this is gonna fly unto the radar because Finnigan's
- 33:17Speaker 4: always been a really risky pitcher and he went to
- 33:21Speaker 4: Detroit and like he's only pitched fourteen innings there, so
- 33:24Speaker 4: you're kind of like you still think of old Finnigan
- 33:27Speaker 4: in your mind, and he is thirty four years old,
- 33:29Speaker 4: so like it's hard to look as is he really
- 33:31Speaker 4: closer things like that. I think there's a great buy
- 33:34Speaker 4: an opportunity in Kyle Finigan. He's learned something, he's changed
- 33:36Speaker 4: who he is, and I think he's gonna get a
- 33:38Speaker 4: good trun on track. I think he's gonna be a
- 33:39Speaker 4: closer somewhere. And I'm I'm excited about him next year.
- 33:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's those are all great calls that Yeah,
- 33:45Speaker 1: that is a nasty splitter. Also, really I just love
- 33:48Speaker 1: a closer with a splitter, you know, just kind of
- 33:50Speaker 1: like Kirby Yates and all those kind of guys. It
- 33:54Speaker 1: just falls off a cliff fantastic.
- 33:56Speaker 3: He has the ball on the ground. We don't need
- 33:57Speaker 3: those homers, No, absolutely.
- 33:59Speaker 1: It's also like it's a wicked pitch to try to
- 34:01Speaker 1: pick up when a dude's only throwing twenty pitches against you,
- 34:05Speaker 1: you know as a team, where like you can't quite
- 34:08Speaker 1: get that rhythm down. So yeah, we'll be fascinating to
- 34:11Speaker 1: see where califin again lands might be back in Detroit.
- 34:13Speaker 3: Who knows.
- 34:14Speaker 1: That would really help me out in terms of the
- 34:16Speaker 1: way I flubbed that. So we do have a couple
- 34:20Speaker 1: of tweaks to the Baseball card release calendar, So check
- 34:25Speaker 1: that out. We are talking on September tenth. It's Tier
- 34:28Speaker 1: one from Tops release day. Check it out. I think
- 34:32Speaker 1: it's everybody who's been talking about how it's kind of overpriced.
- 34:36Speaker 1: It is overpriced, but it's a great set to add
- 34:39Speaker 1: PC cards and singles from. So thank you to everybody.
- 34:44Speaker 2: Out there.
- 34:44Speaker 1: That's ripping it for us to add those cards to
- 34:46Speaker 1: our PC, because that's how I have picked up Tier
- 34:49Speaker 1: one cards in my past. And then later this week,
- 34:52Speaker 1: we've got Panini Prism twenty twenty five coming out hitting shelves.
- 34:55Speaker 1: And who knows, given that I've picked a card for
- 34:58Speaker 1: the PC last week that unlicensed, maybe there will be
- 35:02Speaker 1: some cool stuff in the Panini Prism. But it's never
- 35:05Speaker 1: been quite our jam either. So we've got a couple
- 35:08Speaker 1: of other releases coming up until we get to BOWM
- 35:11Speaker 1: and Chrome later this month. We will make sure to
- 35:13Speaker 1: have an overview of that when that release is closer.
- 35:17Speaker 1: So with that, we're gonna take a short break and
- 35:19Speaker 1: we will be back to discuss twenty twenty six mock
- 35:22Speaker 1: first round. Stick around, everybody, all right, Welcome back, everybody.
- 35:43Speaker 1: We are going to get into our mock twenty twenty
- 35:45Speaker 1: six first round. So we're just gonna do twelve picks
- 35:48Speaker 1: back and forth. Makes it easy, six and six apiece.
- 35:52Speaker 1: And this was I think a really fun exercise telling
- 35:54Speaker 1: exercise last season just to kind of see where players
- 35:59Speaker 1: have had performed all season and then like what had
- 36:03Speaker 1: moved up our ranks and maybe what hadn't shuffled, because
- 36:06Speaker 1: I think we'll find that as well too, where it
- 36:08Speaker 1: is a little hard sometimes in the fog of war
- 36:10Speaker 1: during the season to think about what the projections will
- 36:13Speaker 1: be for twenty twenty six, and how players always kind
- 36:17Speaker 1: of lean back towards their projections and it'll be reflected,
- 36:20Speaker 1: I think in the mock draft here, because honestly, what
- 36:24Speaker 1: we put together last year was pretty close to lining
- 36:27Speaker 1: up to just about what went in to the season
- 36:30Speaker 1: as the first roundish type of players. A little bit
- 36:34Speaker 1: shuffling here and there is you know, there's deep dives
- 36:37Speaker 1: and news on players that causes values to go up
- 36:40Speaker 1: and down. But I think this is a fascinating first
- 36:44Speaker 1: round for twenty twenty six.
- 36:46Speaker 2: So was there anything that really.
- 36:48Speaker 1: Kind of stood out for you as you were preparing
- 36:50Speaker 1: for this.
- 36:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I think a few things.
- 36:52Speaker 4: First of all, I feel like we're deeper on top
- 36:56Speaker 4: of talent than we have been in years. I felt
- 36:59Speaker 4: like in past years would be like after the top
- 37:02Speaker 4: like four or six, it'd be like, all right, now,
- 37:04Speaker 4: I don't feel is great about my first round or I'm.
- 37:07Speaker 3: Accepting some words here.
- 37:09Speaker 4: I felt like this, you know, this might actually be
- 37:11Speaker 4: an interesting time to be drafting the back in the
- 37:13Speaker 4: first round and getting two guys and I'm like, man,
- 37:16Speaker 4: these guys can both be pillars of my team. I
- 37:19Speaker 4: felt like there was probably two tiers within the first round.
- 37:23Speaker 4: I think there was like a for me, there was
- 37:25Speaker 4: like a top three, and then I think there was
- 37:27Speaker 4: like a top eight. Kind of little little drop offs there. Again,
- 37:31Speaker 4: they weren't substantial, but there were little little ones there.
- 37:34Speaker 4: And then as I looked through like I didn't feel
- 37:36Speaker 4: like there's a whole lot of risk either. But then
- 37:41Speaker 4: the last thing I'd say is the theme of last
- 37:44Speaker 4: year with speed is the theme of next year with speed.
- 37:46Speaker 4: If you don't draft speed, you're gonna already be going
- 37:50Speaker 4: out of the first round at a deficit because everybody
- 37:54Speaker 4: runs now, everybody runs, and if you don't looking at you,
- 37:58Speaker 4: Kyle Schober, how still stole ten bases this year? That
- 38:04Speaker 4: you know, I think it's gonna gonna be a challenge
- 38:06Speaker 4: for anybody. So they'll just high level observations, I mean,
- 38:09Speaker 4: anything to stick out to you.
- 38:12Speaker 1: I mean, I think the exact same I think I
- 38:14Speaker 1: was in the same boat where there's a pretty clear
- 38:17Speaker 1: top three, but then there's also a pretty clear like
- 38:20Speaker 1: top eight, I would say, and then after that for like,
- 38:26Speaker 1: I mean, I've got a list here actually because I've
- 38:28Speaker 1: got the prep.
- 38:29Speaker 2: I mean, we only need to make twelve names.
- 38:31Speaker 1: I went all the way out to twenty five, where
- 38:33Speaker 1: I think you could make an argument from nine to
- 38:36Speaker 1: twenty five on my list of like putting them at
- 38:39Speaker 1: the back end of the first round, and I would
- 38:41Speaker 1: not be uncomfortable with it, because I think there are
- 38:44Speaker 1: a lot of players. You can see it a little
- 38:45Speaker 1: bit our player Rader too, where it's really smashed smashed
- 38:49Speaker 1: together at the top, and then there's a whole bunch
- 38:51Speaker 1: of players in like the twenty five to thirty dollars range.
- 38:55Speaker 1: And so I think that's kind of showing again this year,
- 38:58Speaker 1: where you know you've got your few elite players, you've
- 39:01Speaker 1: got another kind of chunk of guys who are gonna
- 39:03Speaker 1: be pushing thirty, thirty, forty forty, and then from there
- 39:07Speaker 1: you can go a lot of different directions. So I
- 39:09Speaker 1: think it's going to allow you to build a lot
- 39:11Speaker 1: of different teams going.
- 39:12Speaker 2: Into twenty twenty six.
- 39:13Speaker 1: But at the same time, like it's a good reminder
- 39:16Speaker 1: you've got to push your way up into trying to
- 39:19Speaker 1: get one of the top eight players especially. I mean,
- 39:21Speaker 1: we're just gonna do this as like a snake back
- 39:24Speaker 1: and forth sort of format. But like if you're if
- 39:26Speaker 1: you're in an auction, you've got to be getting like
- 39:29Speaker 1: one of these top eight players. Otherwise I think you're
- 39:32Speaker 1: playing from behind. I've actually experienced it in our CBS
- 39:35Speaker 1: league where I didn't end up with like a guy
- 39:37Speaker 1: in that kind of top range, and I've been paying
- 39:40Speaker 1: for it all season trying to chase it on the
- 39:42Speaker 1: hitting end.
- 39:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I think you're right what we say all these things.
- 39:46Speaker 4: It's gonna be really interested as we get into this
- 39:48Speaker 4: because we both say there's a Tier three. You both
- 39:49Speaker 4: say there's a tier at eight and tiers. Let's see
- 39:52Speaker 4: if we actually have the same guys those tiers.
- 39:54Speaker 3: It'll be real fun fun to see.
- 39:56Speaker 1: Yes, Okay, so we're gonna do twelve picks back and forth.
- 39:59Speaker 1: And and last year when we did this, I just
- 40:02Speaker 1: you just allowed me to flip a coin like through
- 40:05Speaker 1: the internet, and I just flipped it.
- 40:07Speaker 2: Live and you trusted me. I did I get the
- 40:09Speaker 2: first pick?
- 40:10Speaker 1: I don't even remember, but I think you did. This time,
- 40:13Speaker 1: we're going to do it official. I'm sharing my screen
- 40:16Speaker 1: with you as we're recording on Zoom. That is not
- 40:18Speaker 1: an advertisement, but Zoom if you want to pay me
- 40:20Speaker 1: and give me a free subscription, that'd be sick. I'm
- 40:23Speaker 1: going to flip this coin on Google for you call
- 40:26Speaker 1: it for every now and then I'm going to hit flip.
- 40:29Speaker 4: We're going heads. We're going heads on this one.
- 40:32Speaker 1: Okay, here we go. Google coin is flipping. It is
- 40:36Speaker 1: tails yet, Oh man. I didn't want to be the
- 40:40Speaker 1: guy that said tails never failed. I didn't want to
- 40:42Speaker 1: be that gimmick guy.
- 40:44Speaker 3: And here we are. You get the first pick. I mean,
- 40:47Speaker 3: is this one obvious? I think it is.
- 40:49Speaker 1: It's extremely obvious that, like there is a top three,
- 40:53Speaker 1: but there's a top one and it's show heyo, Tony,
- 40:55Speaker 1: Like it's not even close. He's number one on our
- 40:58Speaker 1: Player Raider again for twenty twenty five. I've just been
- 41:01Speaker 1: absolutely crushing it once again. He's pretty much like a
- 41:07Speaker 1: lock for fifty homers and twenty stolen bases every year
- 41:10Speaker 1: with a three hundred ish average and then you just
- 41:13Speaker 1: sprinkle in next year he's going to be a full
- 41:15Speaker 1: blown starting pitcher. So I think this year too, like
- 41:18Speaker 1: he would be. The other kind of backup here is
- 41:21Speaker 1: like if anything happens to that elbow again, he's just
- 41:24Speaker 1: gonna go right back to.
- 41:25Speaker 2: Stealing fifty bags.
- 41:26Speaker 1: So like, yeah, the Steed's right there, the Powers right there,
- 41:30Speaker 1: the Dodgers la their stadium there. I think is number
- 41:34Speaker 1: one in the home run part park factor now for
- 41:38Speaker 1: twenty twenty five, So there's no reason not to be drafting.
- 41:41Speaker 1: Show heyo Tony number one, like he checks absolutely every box.
- 41:45Speaker 1: Greatest baseball player of all time?
- 41:47Speaker 2: Easy pick?
- 41:48Speaker 3: Yeah, yep, this was easy. Yeah, we knew who's going
- 41:51Speaker 3: number one.
- 41:52Speaker 4: I think there's a bigger question than number two because
- 41:55Speaker 4: there's two guys in evaluation here, and I'm I might
- 42:00Speaker 4: be popular for my pick here, and your fantasy team
- 42:04Speaker 4: may kill mine if I'm wrong here. But I'm going
- 42:07Speaker 4: with Bobby Witt Junior at number two. And I think
- 42:11Speaker 4: Bobby Witt is a thirty thirty guy at minimum forty
- 42:17Speaker 4: forty potential with a three hundred to three twenty batting average,
- 42:21Speaker 4: and he's gonna pile everything else on. It wasn't quite
- 42:24Speaker 4: that this year, but it wasn't too terribly far off.
- 42:28Speaker 4: And I have more trust in Bobby wit Junior playing
- 42:31Speaker 4: one hundred and sixty two games than I do the
- 42:33Speaker 4: next guy, and I think that's the big piece for
- 42:35Speaker 4: me that this separates them is that I have no
- 42:38Speaker 4: qualms that I will never have to touch shortstop for
- 42:41Speaker 4: this team for the next three hundred and sixty five
- 42:44Speaker 4: days or whatever it actually rounds to three hundred and
- 42:47Speaker 4: eighty or whatever it would be. So Bobby Wit Junior
- 42:50Speaker 4: for me number two. It's a pretty pretty clear pick.
- 42:53Speaker 4: But again there's a top three here that there's a
- 42:56Speaker 4: guy that I'm guessing you're gonna take that I don't
- 42:59Speaker 4: have a ton of qualms with going number two. I
- 43:01Speaker 4: had to split hairs from an injury risk perspective to
- 43:04Speaker 4: not take the next guy.
- 43:06Speaker 1: Yep, I'm actually with you. I had Bobby Wit Junior
- 43:08Speaker 1: as my number two player as well, because he might
- 43:11Speaker 1: not get to thirty thirty this year, but he's gonna
- 43:12Speaker 1: go twenty five to twenty five. He's a top ten
- 43:15Speaker 1: value in our player Raider, Like the floor is pretty
- 43:18Speaker 1: tremendous with Bobby Witt. He just allows you to do
- 43:21Speaker 1: anything with your team. So yeah, then obvious number three pick,
- 43:25Speaker 1: I'm going Aaron Judge. I think even this year, Like
- 43:29Speaker 1: he's proven he can be nicked up for a couple
- 43:31Speaker 1: of weeks and he's still like right there with Otani
- 43:35Speaker 1: and the player Raider and the stolen bases haven't been
- 43:38Speaker 1: there quite as much over the past.
- 43:40Speaker 2: Couple of years. But the nice thing is it's not zero.
- 43:43Speaker 1: So especially like if you're in an I've been noticing,
- 43:46Speaker 1: like net stolen base leagues have becoming more popular. If
- 43:49Speaker 1: you're in an SBN league, he's pretty nice. There hasn't
- 43:53Speaker 1: been quite as great this year. He's has been caught
- 43:55Speaker 1: four times, but like last year he was ten for ten,
- 43:57Speaker 1: So like, if he's a net positive value there and
- 44:01Speaker 1: then mashes fifty plus homers for you and hits three thirty.
- 44:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you're totally fine.
- 44:07Speaker 1: Maybe the three thirty is a stretch because it's only
- 44:08Speaker 1: three to twenty in the past couple of years, but
- 44:11Speaker 1: the power, the counting stats, the batting average outweighs the
- 44:16Speaker 1: maybe handful of storm bases you're gonna give up because
- 44:19Speaker 1: you can still compete in storm bases when you're getting
- 44:22Speaker 1: eight to ten from Daron Judge as opposed to a
- 44:25Speaker 1: big fat zero.
- 44:26Speaker 3: Yeah, this one's absolutely right.
- 44:28Speaker 4: This is we have the exact same Top three, Judge,
- 44:32Speaker 4: and I'm not going to false you for putting number two.
- 44:35Speaker 3: He is a generational hitter. He is going to deliver.
- 44:38Speaker 4: He's gonna put up the power numbers, he's gonna put
- 44:41Speaker 4: up the average numbers. He's gonna score one hundred, not
- 44:44Speaker 4: going at least one hundred. It's just a question of
- 44:46Speaker 4: how many bases bags is he going to pitch him?
- 44:49Speaker 4: And like I said, I would I get in the
- 44:51Speaker 4: smallest asterisk just because there's century risk every year.
- 44:53Speaker 3: There's just like he's a big.
- 44:55Speaker 4: Guy barreling down and like he falls and he falls hard.
- 45:00Speaker 4: That's the only little thing that you can pick apart
- 45:03Speaker 4: with Aaron Judge. And he's not really had that issue
- 45:05Speaker 4: for a few years now. So again we're picking it.
- 45:08Speaker 4: We're flitting hairs here.
- 45:09Speaker 1: Okay, well let's see if we start deviating here in
- 45:11Speaker 1: our quote unquote top eight's apiece.
- 45:14Speaker 2: So you're up at number four.
- 45:16Speaker 4: All right, Well, this guy's moving up my list from
- 45:18Speaker 4: the last few years because he did something this year
- 45:21Speaker 4: that he hasn't done before, and it's run. We are
- 45:24Speaker 4: talking one Soto one soo thirty eight homers this year
- 45:29Speaker 4: thirty steals in thirty three attempts. And that's notable because
- 45:32Speaker 4: he is a slow dude at the end of the day.
- 45:35Speaker 4: Sprint speed. Have you looked up a sprint seed? Can
- 45:37Speaker 4: we play the game?
- 45:37Speaker 2: Yeah? He can't play the game. I don't know what
- 45:39Speaker 2: it is. I know it's slow, all right.
- 45:41Speaker 4: Sprint speed for for one Soto this year, Well, I'm
- 45:43Speaker 4: percentile is it?
- 45:45Speaker 2: I'm going with the number twenty two.
- 45:48Speaker 4: You are too high, sir, fifteenth percentile sprint speed for
- 45:52Speaker 4: one Sodo.
- 45:53Speaker 3: He is blazing fast.
- 45:54Speaker 4: But the reason I'm a little bit willing to buy
- 45:56Speaker 4: it is he did it in thirty steals in thirty
- 45:59Speaker 4: three attempts. He is being smart. He's picking the spots
- 46:02Speaker 4: and he's doing it and that is more sustainable to
- 46:05Speaker 4: me than if it was like thirty steals and forty
- 46:09Speaker 4: attempts or forty five attempts like that. He did only
- 46:12Speaker 4: had two sixty one this year. But the underlying metrics, uh,
- 46:14Speaker 4: he's had bib of issues. He's o are the other issues.
- 46:17Speaker 4: He should be like a two ninety three hundred hitter.
- 46:19Speaker 4: We all know that for one Sodo. So he's gonna
- 46:22Speaker 4: finish this year with like a forty thirty five season
- 46:25Speaker 4: with one hundred and twenty runs and one hundred RBIs like,
- 46:30Speaker 4: like you could argue him going up further, but I
- 46:32Speaker 4: got enough questions on the speed. The average is a
- 46:35Speaker 4: little down, Like I can't quite push him there because
- 46:38Speaker 4: I'm just not as superime to confident that he will
- 46:42Speaker 4: address those issues. But like, this is the highest I've
- 46:46Speaker 4: ever been willing to draft one Sodo because the speed
- 46:48Speaker 4: was there, and I actually believe it is it thirty
- 46:50Speaker 4: next year. Put me the over under twenty three.
- 46:54Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, yeah, I mean I actually I would even
- 46:56Speaker 1: take him, uh and go lower on that story on
- 47:00Speaker 1: basis that that's great. We were I he was my
- 47:02Speaker 1: number four on the board as well. I think that
- 47:05Speaker 1: the average might not ever quite bounce back.
- 47:07Speaker 2: Just because the city field. I think that's what's killing
- 47:09Speaker 2: it a little bit.
- 47:10Speaker 1: But dude, one Soto is so young, it's so bananas,
- 47:15Speaker 1: Like he still hasn't reached probably peak strength, and so
- 47:19Speaker 1: there still could be like a fifty homer season in
- 47:22Speaker 1: this back too, So like there's upside ceiling on ban Soto,
- 47:26Speaker 1: who's been a career one fifty eight hitter.
- 47:28Speaker 4: Yeah, this is this guy's unbelievable. So all right, do
- 47:33Speaker 4: you do we break it at five?
- 47:34Speaker 3: Here?
- 47:34Speaker 4: This is gonna be a really really boring draft, by
- 47:38Speaker 4: the way, if we match our whole way through this.
- 47:39Speaker 4: So we got a devate at some point, show me
- 47:42Speaker 4: some deviation, I don't know.
- 47:43Speaker 1: I can't tell if it would be boring or just
- 47:46Speaker 1: like totally like bananas that we connected somehow, like through
- 47:51Speaker 1: just mind waves to be able to get the same rankings.
- 47:54Speaker 1: Number five, I'm gonna go Ellie de la Cruz at
- 47:57Speaker 1: number five. And so what I'm going for here is
- 48:00Speaker 1: it's again the floor in terms of speed and power.
- 48:03Speaker 1: So what we're looking at for Ellie this year is
- 48:06Speaker 1: it's been a little lighter on the power with nineteen homers,
- 48:09Speaker 1: but the thirty three stolen bases certainly doesn't line up
- 48:11Speaker 1: with the sixty seven last year. But he's also been
- 48:14Speaker 1: battling like a low key hamstring issue for a couple
- 48:17Speaker 1: months and has still been working his way through it.
- 48:20Speaker 1: So those past couple months have really tailed off. Where
- 48:23Speaker 1: if you if we had had this, I think a
- 48:26Speaker 1: couple months ago, I wouldn't have had to make his
- 48:29Speaker 1: the case as much for Ella de la Cruz at
- 48:31Speaker 1: fifth but I think you also put him inside that
- 48:34Speaker 1: ballpark in Cincinnati.
- 48:36Speaker 2: You look at the fact that he's.
- 48:38Speaker 1: Going to be turning twenty four in January, so still
- 48:41Speaker 1: really young, has been limiting the strikeouts even more. Should
- 48:46Speaker 1: hopefully have a better team around him again as salth
- 48:49Speaker 1: Stewart's kind of up there and the youth is starting
- 48:51Speaker 1: to bubble up. You'll have Matt McLain coming off of
- 48:54Speaker 1: another year of like you know, removed from that shoulder surgery,
- 48:58Speaker 1: so hopefully. I mean, the counting SATs have been there
- 49:01Speaker 1: for Ellie, so it's not like they haven't. You know,
- 49:02Speaker 1: ninety six runs, eighty one RBI so far. What is
- 49:06Speaker 1: he clocked in on our player Raider nineteenth, which isn't
- 49:09Speaker 1: bad for he was going fifth to six, you know
- 49:12Speaker 1: ish during the preseason draft for twenty twenty five.
- 49:16Speaker 2: So I don't think you have huge qualmps with what
- 49:19Speaker 2: he gave.
- 49:20Speaker 1: You, But I'm willing to buy back in and hoping
- 49:22Speaker 1: that Ellie can find twenty fifty season again in twenty
- 49:25Speaker 1: twenty six.
- 49:27Speaker 4: All Right, we finally deviated. I did not have Ellie
- 49:31Speaker 4: here at number five. I'm finally you take him, cause
- 49:34Speaker 4: I'll take my next guy, but I had Lle number eight,
- 49:37Speaker 4: so he was still in that same tier that we
- 49:39Speaker 4: were talking about there. I just think if I look
- 49:42Speaker 4: under the covers with Ellie, I'm not really.
- 49:45Speaker 3: I'm thrilled that the strikeouts are coming down.
- 49:47Speaker 4: I'm not thrilled that the fly.
- 49:48Speaker 3: Balls are going up.
- 49:49Speaker 4: And he seems to be normalizing a little bit on
- 49:51Speaker 4: his home run to fly ball ratio in the mid
- 49:53Speaker 4: teens and into upper teens, and like he's a flyball
- 49:57Speaker 4: ratio like fifty fifty two percent something like that came
- 50:00Speaker 4: remember exactly what it is. And we've talked about guys
- 50:03Speaker 4: like this before. It's the same James Wood. It's the
- 50:05Speaker 4: same issue as some of these guys that they hit
- 50:08Speaker 4: the ball incredibly hard and they're great baseball swings. Get me,
- 50:11Speaker 4: don't get me wrong, this is a great baseball swing,
- 50:14Speaker 4: but he's just not getting something that lift that we
- 50:18Speaker 4: want to see as as much as we can. And
- 50:24Speaker 4: so I'd like to see it back where you know
- 50:26Speaker 4: he has been in the past, which was just slightly higher,
- 50:29Speaker 4: to really capitalize on that and then get that home
- 50:32Speaker 4: run the flyball ratio to jump up as well. So
- 50:35Speaker 4: we'll see because in his rookie season, it was fifty
- 50:37Speaker 4: one percent. This year is fifty four percent. Dropped down
- 50:39Speaker 4: last year, come back a little bit. But the home
- 50:42Speaker 4: run for flyball just keeps dropping, and I that could
- 50:44Speaker 4: be bad luck. It might not be, so I'd like
- 50:46Speaker 4: to see that get a little higher. But again, picking
- 50:49Speaker 4: up Harris here, still incredibly talented. You're not wrong here.
- 50:55Speaker 4: This this guy is a top half first round talent.
- 50:58Speaker 4: I just felt a little bit more comfortable with some
- 51:00Speaker 4: other guys here.
- 51:01Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I think that's totally fair. So who you
- 51:03Speaker 1: going with at number six?
- 51:05Speaker 4: I am going with the most boring player at the
- 51:08Speaker 4: top of the first round here. You know it's gonna
- 51:10Speaker 4: be with that description, Jose Ramirez.
- 51:13Speaker 3: He is just steady Eddie.
- 51:15Speaker 4: I mean we're now talking like six straight seasons of
- 51:18Speaker 4: one hundred and fifty games, thirty homers, thirty still steals,
- 51:22Speaker 4: hitting two eighty five like lock In, It's exactly the
- 51:26Speaker 4: same thing. I have no concerns about it. We know
- 51:28Speaker 4: exactly what we're getting and there's nothing wrong with boring
- 51:31Speaker 4: steady Eddie. Jose Ramirez so absolutely love him. He is
- 51:35Speaker 4: gonna be going to his thirty age thirty three season.
- 51:38Speaker 4: So like at some point we gotta start looking at
- 51:40Speaker 4: like when does this slow down? Yeah, but he's he's
- 51:45Speaker 4: still at home in Cleveland. He's he's gonna be the
- 51:48Speaker 4: core of that franchise for as long as he wants
- 51:50Speaker 4: to be. So I'm I'm just thrilled to take a
- 51:53Speaker 4: guy that's gonna be that reliable, and I'm gonna own
- 51:56Speaker 4: a lot of shares of Jose Rimros next year just
- 51:58Speaker 4: because he's not as flashy as Ellie. He's not as
- 52:02Speaker 4: flashy as uh, some of the next guys that.
- 52:05Speaker 3: We're going to take.
- 52:05Speaker 4: So give me, give me Jose Ramirez over Ellie and
- 52:09Speaker 4: we'll both be happy.
- 52:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 52:10Speaker 1: Actually I had penciled this in when you, like, when
- 52:13Speaker 1: you started chiming in your first couple of lines on Ellie,
- 52:15Speaker 1: I was like, Oh, this dude just likes Jose Ramirez
- 52:17Speaker 1: a little better because of the steady eddiness. Yeah, that's
- 52:19Speaker 1: exactly unciled it in. He was actually six on my board,
- 52:22Speaker 1: So we're still kind of in lockstep where maybe I
- 52:25Speaker 1: bumped Ellie a little bit further. But if I had
- 52:27Speaker 1: gotten if you, my next pick was going to be
- 52:30Speaker 1: Jose Ramirez as well. So yeah, everything you said spot
- 52:33Speaker 1: on set in.
- 52:34Speaker 4: And forget at thirty thirty. All right, where we go
- 52:36Speaker 4: with number seven. We'll see if we can get back
- 52:38Speaker 4: on track with the same rankings here.
- 52:40Speaker 1: Okay, I'm gonna go number seven. Corpor And Carrol Arizona
- 52:45Speaker 1: Diamondbacks outfielder. Obviously, he's on pace for a thirty thirty season. Honestly,
- 52:50Speaker 1: might even push thirty five. Thirty two fifty five average
- 52:53Speaker 1: is a little lower than we want, but it's been
- 52:55Speaker 1: a one thirty eight WRC, plus he's bounced right back
- 52:58Speaker 1: to who he was in twenty twenty three at the plate,
- 53:01Speaker 1: except for you know, tick less speed, and so you
- 53:05Speaker 1: also forget this dude is doing it with a broken wrist.
- 53:08Speaker 1: Remember a couple months ago when we were really starting
- 53:11Speaker 1: to write off Corbyn Carroll because he had that risk
- 53:14Speaker 1: fracture and we're like, uh, I hate risk fractures. He's
- 53:17Speaker 1: just been chugging along the entire time since then. So
- 53:20Speaker 1: that gives me a lot of faith and hope in Coral,
- 53:24Speaker 1: Corby and Carroll going into twenty twenty six, because you
- 53:27Speaker 1: give him that offseason, he's not gonna go to the
- 53:29Speaker 1: postseason with the d Backs gets a really long off season.
- 53:32Speaker 1: To be able to rest and rehab that risk that
- 53:35Speaker 1: I'm sure has been bothering him, but he's probably doing
- 53:37Speaker 1: maintenance just to make it all work. Now in twenty
- 53:40Speaker 1: twenty five, great home park in Arizona gonna be in
- 53:44Speaker 1: his age twenty five season doesn't turn well, he just
- 53:47Speaker 1: turned twenty five, so he'll still be his twenty five
- 53:49Speaker 1: season doesn't turn twenty six until August. So yeah, there's
- 53:54Speaker 1: a lot of great things I love for Corbyn Carroll.
- 53:56Speaker 1: If you remember the hype that he had around him
- 53:58Speaker 1: going into twenty twenty four, I think it might get
- 54:01Speaker 1: two similar peaks in this offseason. I think, especially once
- 54:05Speaker 1: people put two and two together at that wrist and
- 54:07Speaker 1: kind of see where this team could go in Arizona
- 54:10Speaker 1: if they pick up a couple of extra free agent pieces.
- 54:14Speaker 3: We are back on track, Sir.
- 54:15Speaker 4: I had Corby Carroll as my number six overall picks,
- 54:18Speaker 4: So you just got Ellie a little out of order here,
- 54:21Speaker 4: and I'm right there with you like he had that
- 54:23Speaker 4: that really tough stretch, and ever since then he has
- 54:27Speaker 4: been unbelievable and it's even more impressive with some injuries
- 54:32Speaker 4: and things like that that he's had. So Sky is
- 54:35Speaker 4: the limit here for for Corby Carroll, he just held
- 54:38Speaker 4: down by a few injury issues. And you know, and
- 54:40Speaker 4: you know he hasn't been steady. Eddie O's are mirrors
- 54:42Speaker 4: for six years straight, so you know, again we're splitting
- 54:46Speaker 4: hairs here. But Carol there at number seven is an
- 54:50Speaker 4: absolute steal. I had my six overall, so loving the pick.
- 54:55Speaker 1: So all right, I'm worried when I said that pick
- 54:59Speaker 1: you you didn't have a reaction.
- 55:00Speaker 2: It's like, oh, no, we deviated. But here it is.
- 55:02Speaker 2: Here's number eighty.
- 55:03Speaker 4: Here it is, did we did we do it? Julio
- 55:07Speaker 4: Rigaz that's eighth. Julio Rodriguez at number eight. This this
- 55:12Speaker 4: was actually fun because I remember early in the season
- 55:15Speaker 4: in one of the columns that my rate my rankings,
- 55:18Speaker 4: and somebody was just viscerating me, one of our favorite
- 55:21Speaker 4: commenters on the entire RAF ball site, and you know
- 55:23Speaker 4: who that is. It was just a viscerating me because
- 55:25Speaker 4: of how terrible Julio is. We should be dropping him
- 55:28Speaker 4: in and I and I said, at the end of
- 55:30Speaker 4: the day, when you get a guy like Julio, when
- 55:33Speaker 4: you have this low walk, high strikeout profile, you're playing
- 55:37Speaker 4: in the you know, cool Seattle started the season with
- 55:41Speaker 4: that marine layer, and at the end of the.
- 55:45Speaker 3: Day, he's still like doing decent. It's gonna come around.
- 55:48Speaker 4: Since May one, twenty six homers, twenty steals, two eighty
- 55:52Speaker 4: two average, seventy four runs, seventy six RBIs and that
- 55:55Speaker 4: kick kicks out a good month and a half of
- 55:58Speaker 4: the season. Right, This guy is fantastic. He's continued. Like
- 56:03Speaker 4: I think people had this I think the same as
- 56:05Speaker 4: with Corbyn Carroll's, Like they had this unreal expectation of
- 56:08Speaker 4: Hulu Rodriguez, of who he could be, that he's gonna
- 56:11Speaker 4: be like a forty five homer, forty five steel guy
- 56:13Speaker 4: all the time, and he was the next coming of
- 56:16Speaker 4: King Griffey Junior. Like that's what people are expecting. And
- 56:19Speaker 4: now that he's doing, you know, amazing things and not
- 56:23Speaker 4: like stupendous things, I don't know the difference between amazing stupendous,
- 56:26Speaker 4: But like, I think he's getting downgraded for folks because
- 56:31Speaker 4: he's only a thirty thirty guy that's gonna fill your
- 56:34Speaker 4: stat sheet, and that's brought him down. And the biggest
- 56:38Speaker 4: thing that brings him down for me is he's a
- 56:41Speaker 4: roller coaster and he plays in Seattle. Those those two
- 56:44Speaker 4: things are what bring him down to number eight. But I,
- 56:47Speaker 4: like I said, if I'm not getting show hey here,
- 56:50Speaker 4: I'm not really complaining about any of these guys. I
- 56:54Speaker 4: actually think one through eight you could argue almost anyone
- 56:58Speaker 4: over somebody else at the end of the day.
- 57:00Speaker 3: And if we come back.
- 57:01Speaker 4: At the end of next season and Julio or KORbin
- 57:04Speaker 4: or Ellie or whatever is the number one hitter, I'm
- 57:06Speaker 4: not surprised. So I really think the top eight is
- 57:10Speaker 4: is pretty outer and solid. So with that, anything about Julio,
- 57:14Speaker 4: But then I want to see where you're going with nine,
- 57:16Speaker 4: because like at this point you gotta start zigging to
- 57:19Speaker 4: the zag.
- 57:19Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean we'll see where these last
- 57:23Speaker 1: few picks go. But yeah, I think with Julio two,
- 57:26Speaker 1: he did prove this year to be able to I
- 57:29Speaker 1: mean even down the stretch last year, and I think
- 57:32Speaker 1: he really pushed into territory where there is just a
- 57:36Speaker 1: steadiness to him, even if it is a little up
- 57:38Speaker 1: and down in terms of I think he's got to
- 57:41Speaker 1: be frustrated to own probably in a head to head league,
- 57:43Speaker 1: but if you're in a roto league, you don't ever
- 57:45Speaker 1: take this dude out of your lineup. He just gets
- 57:47Speaker 1: to his thirty thirty by the end of the year.
- 57:49Speaker 1: And on top of it, the counting stats were there
- 57:52Speaker 1: this year because the Mariners are the fifth best offense
- 57:55Speaker 1: in the matrix this year. I think they've figured something
- 57:57Speaker 1: out with t Mobile a little bit where they brought
- 58:00Speaker 1: in Edgar Martinez as hitting coordinator or like coach or
- 58:03Speaker 1: consultant or something. And you could see it right off
- 58:06Speaker 1: the bat in April where the Mariners were taking a
- 58:09Speaker 1: different approach at the plate. And I think they've solved
- 58:13Speaker 1: some of the issues with that jack to batter's eye
- 58:15Speaker 1: and just trained through it. So it's really heartening to
- 58:20Speaker 1: see that they were able to do that. I think
- 58:22Speaker 1: he can build upon it. Twenty five years old, gonna
- 58:24Speaker 1: be twenty five years old next year.
- 58:26Speaker 2: Great pick.
- 58:28Speaker 4: But okay, all right, what are we doing? Where are
- 58:29Speaker 4: we going after the cliff?
- 58:31Speaker 1: Maybe is the top nine still the same? I'm going
- 58:34Speaker 1: Tucker at Kyle Tucker at number nine. Don't know where
- 58:38Speaker 1: he's going to be landing, but another guy who should
- 58:40Speaker 1: be lining up for a thirty thirty season. Wherever he goes.
- 58:43Speaker 1: Even with those injuries, we've talked about at the top
- 58:46Speaker 1: of the show. He is pretty much gotten there, I
- 58:50Speaker 1: guess a little short twenty seventy, but that's still been
- 58:55Speaker 1: a fantastic player on our Player Raider, where he has
- 58:59Speaker 1: clocked in at being number thirty nine. So it has
- 59:03Speaker 1: tailed off as he's really slowed down in the second half,
- 59:06Speaker 1: but you've got to count on him hitting the eye
- 59:09Speaker 1: al he's injured, I think next year, because wherever he's
- 59:12Speaker 1: gonna end up, they're gonna have him on a really
- 59:14Speaker 1: fat contract and they're not gonna want to be risking
- 59:16Speaker 1: the long term health of Kyle Tucker. So I think
- 59:19Speaker 1: this is a guy who you can set at thirty
- 59:21Speaker 1: thirty and probably honestly just about the same as Julio.
- 59:25Speaker 1: But I think Julio's just got that itch of another
- 59:29Speaker 1: level of ceiling. So that's why I'm going with Tucker
- 59:33Speaker 1: at number nine and had him just outside of like
- 59:35Speaker 1: the rest of what we were drafting. So of course
- 59:38Speaker 1: two here, like if he ends up in a just
- 59:41Speaker 1: an absolute dog crap park like San Francisco or something,
- 59:44Speaker 1: I'm fading him further. But this is assuming Kyle Tucker
- 59:48Speaker 1: goes to a middle of the package park.
- 59:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't. I don't hate it.
- 59:53Speaker 4: I didn't have Tucker there, actually didn't have Tucker in
- 59:55Speaker 4: my top first round. We talked about how many guys
- 59:58Speaker 4: you ranked earlier. You ranked twenty, I ranked thirteen. Tucker
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: was thirteenth on my rank, and I've got him just
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: outside there because there's enough questions with the health and
- 1:00:08Speaker 4: things like that that I'm loving him at the turn.
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: I'm loving picking a guy like Tucker up at the
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: turn with what some of the other guys I have
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: around there, because I think he can do what you're
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: talking about. I think he can, but I'm just I'm
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: not fully convinced because he has had a kind of
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: a rocky year. And I've also owned Sucker a number
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: of spots like you could feel it, you can feel it,
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: just something's not quite quite there. And so I'm bumping
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: him just out of the first round. But that was
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: only after digging and digging and looking at some other
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: guys that I normally wouldn't necessarily bring it to the
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: first round. And so he like to me, I would
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: have gone all the way up to eleven with him,
- 1:00:49Speaker 4: And so you know, we're we're again, We're not too
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: far far off here.
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm I'm surprised. You're usually the Tucker guy in
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: this pot. You're the one that's hyping him up to me, so.
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: I know, so I've I've dropped a little bit.
- 1:01:02Speaker 4: Give me an offseason, not dealing with him on injured
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: listed leagues right now, and that might that might turn around.
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: So he had the frustration, Okay, who are you gonna
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: go with at number ten?
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: All right here here is my zag. I am doing
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: what I'd never say to do, Turiak Scooble. I'm taking
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: three Schooble at number ten. This is the guy that
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: is a triple Crown or triple Crown winner.
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: When you start to.
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: Look at the game today and what you can get
- 1:01:30Speaker 4: from a pitching perspective, I think there's no safer guy
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: on a team that continues to get better. The Tigers
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: continue to get better. So I would not be shocked
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: to see Scooble win fifteen to twenty games when eighteen
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: last year, he's got thirteen this year. He might finish,
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: you know a few with a few more. This is
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: a guy that's gonna strike out two twenty to two
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: thirty guys. He's gonna get one hundred ninety to two
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: hundred innings. The whip is blowed nine and he just
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: keeps getting better.
- 1:02:00Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: The fastball velocity the last four years ninety four, two nine, eight,
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: ninety seven, ninety seven to six. He has added three
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: mile an hour to his fastball over the last four years.
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: He is just getting better and better and stronger and stronger.
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: And I think if you look at all the pictures
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: out there, there's nobody I feel better about the true Schooble.
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: There's only one other guy, I think from a talent
- 1:02:26Speaker 4: perspective that can threaten him.
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: But he has a.
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: Big old asterisk on one specific category called wins. Uh
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: that's gonna that will drag him down below Schooble. If
- 1:02:34Speaker 4: you're if you're on the same team, you might might
- 1:02:37Speaker 4: might go the other guy, which is called Paul Ski.
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: So I'm sticking with Scooble here and we'll kind of
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: see how much I hate that part of my draft.
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: But because I think that the hitting is so deep
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: and strong.
- 1:02:52Speaker 4: In that that second and third round, I'm actually willing
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: to do this, which historically I wouldn't want to touch
- 1:02:59Speaker 4: the third or fourth round, but I feel like I
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: can come back with a Tucker or a few other
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: guys that we might talk about and go to like Scooble, Tucker, Gunner,
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: Henderson like some run like that and be absolutely absolutely thrilled.
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think that's fair. It is going to
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: really be league dependent. I think on a fifteen teamer
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: I've not taken a picture of this early because then
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: you are running a little bit more risk in terms
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: of that turn coming back around. But on a twelve
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: team league, yeah, I can totally understand it. Get go,
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: get your guy that you like. I actually so my
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: first picture that I had ranked in my list for
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: some reason, I went to twenty five just for funzies
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: because I was just noodle in today. My first one's
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: twentieth and it's Skiens. I'm actually more of a Skiens guy,
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: I think going into next year, because I think the
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: Pirates really let the horses go on him next year.
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: They've been throttling him for two months, and I think
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: without that you would be seeing a lot more ks
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: from Skiens. And just the batting app or not the
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: batting ever, the ras just so incredible allows you to build.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: But honestly, you're coin flipping between Schemes and Schooble, because
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: you know who's twenty one on that list, Scooble, So.
- 1:04:12Speaker 4: Yeah, it's and honestly in my list, like I'm only
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: willing to take one picture, but when I was listing
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: him out, and this is why Tucker would have actually
- 1:04:20Speaker 4: made his way in the first round if if, if
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: we had gone all the way through here without you
- 1:04:25Speaker 4: taking him. Is that I put school Skimes back to
- 1:04:27Speaker 4: back in my rankings for that exact same reason, Like
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: I'm finally willing to take a picture here because of
- 1:04:31Speaker 4: the dynamic, I can't take both, but I'm finally willing
- 1:04:34Speaker 4: to take one, and I got scoopled just slide the
- 1:04:36Speaker 4: Schemes because of the winds because Schemes is so bad there,
- 1:04:41Speaker 4: even though he does actually excel a few other areas.
- 1:04:44Speaker 4: So anyway, where are we going with number eleven here?
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: Okay, this is the one I had one of the
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: hardest times rating. I'm going col. I'm going col at
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: number eleven mostly because like I just well one, like
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: he's clocked in number three this year on our player
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: Raider two is like I just don't see how he
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: stops mashing taters and if he's going to be a
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: forty homer guy at catcher. It's just too much to
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: overcome from a value perspective in terms of the position.
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: And I don't think the stolen bases are going anywhere.
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: I think the stolen bases are a part of his game.
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: It's just a little bit of like the craftiness that
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: adds the extra value. We were just talking about the
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: Seattle Manners figuring out something in T mobile and just
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: being a better team. Obviously that WRC plus being fifth
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: is driven by Cal and Julio mostly, but like I
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: think they have put something together. You're still looking at
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: a guy in Cal who's relatively young, so I'm not
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: terribly worried about the volume of catching. Yet you know
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: he's going to be turning twenty nine in November, so
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: this is probably the last year I'd.
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: Be willing to make this jump with Cal.
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: But it's really it's gonna be really fascinating, I think,
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: to see where Col goes and drafts, because you're gonna
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: be staring at a guy who's going to be coming
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: off a season that is going to be like maybe
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: sixty homers and clocking in as somebody who is a
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: top five raided player probably when you put that into projections,
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: and it's gonna be hard to take a catcher in
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: the first round. But I think when you're at this
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: point you do, because, like we were just talking, when
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: you're coming back on the turn, I can take another
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: great infielder, shortstop or outfielder if I've got my catcher set.
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: With cal I. He's not going to come back.
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: To you in the third round at this pick, and
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: he's gonna be going pretty quickly in the second round.
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: So why not jump now and see if you can
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: catch the lightning in a bottle? Going forward to twenty
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: twenty six.
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: I know you so badly want me to argue with you,
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: but you know my number eleven was cal rally.
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: Really wasn't so like, were you debating the same thing too.
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: I fel really weird putting a catcher here, but.
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: Yeah, you've got to right you did it because it
- 1:07:04Speaker 4: felt really weird until I actually started to think the opposite,
- 1:07:06Speaker 4: which is it is catcher. Like I we've talked about
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: how deep it is, but catchers still has the penalty
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: of number of games played, and the depth has really
- 1:07:15Speaker 4: been in the mid tiers where all these guys have
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: come up and are steal on a few bases, hitting
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: twenty homers, things like that, Like the core has really tightened.
- 1:07:25Speaker 4: But then the other top guys have dropped off, will
- 1:07:27Speaker 4: Smith and Adlie Rushman's things like that with William Trere,
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: they've all dropped back to that tier. Kyl is so
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: far beyond them. He's like triple some of those guys,
- 1:07:38Speaker 4: is what he's potential to do. Because your catcher, if
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: the guy hits twenty homers and steals five bases and
- 1:07:44Speaker 4: hits two fifty, like that's the number one catcher in
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: most Leaks's, that's the three Kyle Rally can do that
- 1:07:50Speaker 4: three times. And so I think that the lift you
- 1:07:52Speaker 4: get and I'm gonna go back to way back like
- 1:07:55Speaker 4: this will make me sound old, back when me like
- 1:07:56Speaker 4: a Jonathan er Croy will like steal bases and for
- 1:08:00Speaker 4: average at catcher when no other catcher could actually do anything,
- 1:08:03Speaker 4: Like you could draft a guy like that at the beginning,
- 1:08:05Speaker 4: and you just have such a major advantage of the
- 1:08:07Speaker 4: position that even if you took a little downgrade elsewhere,
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: it like the downgrade elsewhere by a round and an
- 1:08:13Speaker 4: outfielder is no big deal. And so that's why like
- 1:08:17Speaker 4: if this, if it was cal Rally playing the outfield,
- 1:08:20Speaker 4: I wouldn't have done it. I would not have been
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: able to go there. Uh Aka, Kyle Schorber is not
- 1:08:24Speaker 4: in the in the discussion for me because it's the
- 1:08:27Speaker 4: position is what's driving it. So I'm actually right there
- 1:08:30Speaker 4: with you another year or two. It's concerning. But man,
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: the advantage you get is so unbelievable. And to your point,
- 1:08:38Speaker 4: the turn like you're gonna get these guys, you're your
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: parent number eleven col Rally with somebody that can that
- 1:08:45Speaker 4: can absolutely hit three hundred and into unbelievable things.
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, And I mean I think the volume is
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: a very good point two trade seasons of one hundred
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: ard bio your catcher.
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: That doesn't happen.
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: That's just like you're talking about some of the those
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: other guys that are top tier catchers, it's like seventy
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: five rbi tops. But because Cal's volume between playing DH
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: and catcher and just being in the middle of that lineup,
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: one hundred rbi out of your catcher is so impossible
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: to get that, Like, yeah, that's what really puts.
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: It over the edge for me.
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: So I'm glad that I was right there with you.
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: So you got the last pick of the first round.
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: Who are you gonna go with at number twelve?
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: All right?
- 1:09:28Speaker 4: Well, see we both zagged a little bit. You took Tucker,
- 1:09:31Speaker 4: I had just outside. I know my schoobl pick was
- 1:09:33Speaker 4: little little put bullish there, but we might end on
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: the same one here. I am going with another reliable guy,
- 1:09:40Speaker 4: Francisco Lindor. I am closing out with Lindor. This is
- 1:09:45Speaker 4: a guy that should have three back to backs, three
- 1:09:47Speaker 4: back to back to back seasons of thirty homers basically
- 1:09:51Speaker 4: thirty steals. I had twenty nine last year, twenty so
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: far this year probably the hit two sixty five, two seventy.
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: He's gonna score one hundred runs. He you know this
- 1:10:00Speaker 4: year RBIs drop off just slightly, but he's just been
- 1:10:04Speaker 4: so solid and having one Soto around the lineup is
- 1:10:07Speaker 4: absolutely helping him.
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: And so I just I feel comfortable that I've.
- 1:10:11Speaker 4: Got a thirty thirty guy that's gonna hit for relatively
- 1:10:14Speaker 4: reasonable average and just fill my stats sheet. And at
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: this point, knowing I'm gonna get to another guy like
- 1:10:19Speaker 4: this on the turn, I'm going to package two really
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: strong guys like that. That's where like lind Or Tucker
- 1:10:23Speaker 4: for review is my turn, Like, man, I might have
- 1:10:26Speaker 4: locked in sixty sixty two eighty with two hundred runs,
- 1:10:28Speaker 4: two hundred arbiyes and I'm just sitting pretty so I
- 1:10:31Speaker 4: put Lindor in there. I you know, there's an argument
- 1:10:34Speaker 4: for a lot of other guys as you kind of
- 1:10:37Speaker 4: look at the play Raider as far as like does
- 1:10:39Speaker 4: Turner making that conversation PCA was.
- 1:10:42Speaker 3: One that was like, how what do we what do
- 1:10:43Speaker 3: you do with him? There? He guy?
- 1:10:46Speaker 4: I even looked at Trevor story that was me, I
- 1:10:49Speaker 4: get it, but like I had to look at him
- 1:10:51Speaker 4: Byron Buckston, I had to think about like there's a
- 1:10:53Speaker 4: lot of guys there, but Lindor. I just I still
- 1:10:56Speaker 4: feel very confident that he's going to continue to do
- 1:10:59Speaker 4: what he's been doing. So I'm gonna lock him in
- 1:11:01Speaker 4: as the last guy in our first round mock here.
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: I think that's a great pick. He was right in
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: that cluster for me from eleven to fourteen in my rankings,
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: which is Lindor popped out fourteenth. It was a cluster
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: where I was shuffling this cluster around all day because
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: I think they're all right there together.
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: So my twelfth pick actually would have been James Wood.
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: He's who I've got eleventh, Twelfth is junior junior Caman Arrow,
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: thirteenth is Ronald Lacuna Junior. Fourteenth is Francisco Lindor. So
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: warts on all those guys, upside on all of them,
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: and that's kind of all while they're why they're clustered there.
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: So that's a I.
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: Don't think I have no problem with this Lindor pick
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: because he was in my twelfth spot several times throughout
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: the day.
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: But then I just kept looking at it.
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: The power speed combo from James Wood another I mean
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: junior cam and Arrow is gonna get to forty five homers,
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: probably going to get another year in that ridiculous minor
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: league stadium. Ronald the Kunier junior has been playing pretty
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: well and getting back into the swing of things. So Lindor,
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: I think is right there.
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: It's set in and forget it.
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: Thirty homers, thirty stone bases, counting stats in front of
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: bon Soto.
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: It's a great pick.
- 1:12:14Speaker 4: Yeah, it's this is a fun first round next year,
- 1:12:16Speaker 4: for sure. There's they're like, there's not really a wrong
- 1:12:19Speaker 4: pick that this is the auction draft dream where you
- 1:12:22Speaker 4: you could go and play in Stars and Scrubs here
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: next year, because besides the Tany, the rest of these
- 1:12:27Speaker 4: guys are probably gonna go pretty similar auction value things
- 1:12:30Speaker 4: like that, And I think it's gonna be you said earlier,
- 1:12:32Speaker 4: it's gonna be key to get one of them, but
- 1:12:34Speaker 4: I think there's gonna be there's gonna be a key
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: to get maybe two or three of the guys right
- 1:12:39Speaker 4: at the end of that first round, right at the
- 1:12:41Speaker 4: early second round, because there's there's a lot of a
- 1:12:45Speaker 4: lot of values on good floor, uh, for a lot
- 1:12:48Speaker 4: of guys here.
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: Yeah, And so I want to discuss another kind of
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: three pack of names where this pushes it out to
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: my top eighteen. Because you mentioned Turner he was my fifteenth, sixteenth,
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: ive Jackson Churio seventeenth and eighteenth. I think these are
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: interesting names. I want to get your take on because
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: these dudes were both solidly first rounders this year. Mookie
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: Bets of Fernando Tatist Junior is who I've moved down
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: to like seventeen eighteen. I think especially MOOKI will be
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: much further up when you run actual projections through values
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: next year just because they're going to push him back
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: to his normal production or production. The same thing with
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: Tatis honestly too, they might push him back up a
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: little bit where it's been a little bit more of
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: a down year for Tatis.
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: What do you think about those guys? Are you still
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: considering them in the first round or are you.
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: Starting to to sour on Bets's age and overall batted
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: ball profile and Tatis just can't seem to stay healthy.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: And again that bad ball profile has been degrading there too.
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I think both of them.
- 1:13:51Speaker 4: I'm probably starting to look almost third round for both
- 1:13:54Speaker 4: those guys. Muki, to your point, like the bad ball
- 1:13:57Speaker 4: profile has just continued to drop off. He just he
- 1:14:00Speaker 4: seems to be struggling more and more. And this is
- 1:14:02Speaker 4: a guy who I just absolutely thought in this lineup
- 1:14:04Speaker 4: for the last few years should just be getting so
- 1:14:07Speaker 4: much protection from the guy sitting behind him that he
- 1:14:09Speaker 4: should be able to just absolutely launch on what he
- 1:14:13Speaker 4: could do. And he seems like he has significantly regressed.
- 1:14:15Speaker 4: He has really stopped running for all intents and purposes.
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: He's not getting on base, he's not scoring the runs,
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: and the way he needs to and like he is
- 1:14:25Speaker 4: at risk of getting knocked down that lineup, which is
- 1:14:27Speaker 4: which is concerning to teasing the other hands the whole
- 1:14:29Speaker 4: different conversation where the guy just can't stay healthy.
- 1:14:31Speaker 3: He has the talent like.
- 1:14:34Speaker 4: A Julio or a Coorbun or something like that. That's
- 1:14:36Speaker 4: who the talent level, but the injury risk is so
- 1:14:40Speaker 4: severe that I'm knocking him down probably to the third
- 1:14:44Speaker 4: round at best, and I really probably don't want to
- 1:14:47Speaker 4: touch him at all because you are almost guaranteed that
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: he is going to be injured. So unless you go
- 1:14:54Speaker 4: like steady, steady eddie in those first two, maybe even
- 1:14:58Speaker 4: three rounds, I'm touching to tease the tim foot pole
- 1:15:02Speaker 4: going in next year. I just don't think it's a
- 1:15:03Speaker 4: wise move. Somebody else is gonna do it because it's
- 1:15:06Speaker 4: easy to dream and the talent's there. I mean, what
- 1:15:08Speaker 4: the home run robbing catch you made yesterday, Like it's
- 1:15:12Speaker 4: like the guy his unbelievable talent, but if you can't
- 1:15:14Speaker 4: stay on the field, doesn't really matter.
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's totally fair. Okay, Well we're gonna
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: wrap it up for this week with that mock first round.
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: I still can't believe how similar it was, like considering
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: we just kind of were really making that up.
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: I mean not making it up, but.
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: In terms of just like putting it together and not
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: having like really any other pre drafts or values that
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: were great to work off of.
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: So that's fantastic.
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: Yeah, he's right, the fact that we really only had
- 1:15:42Speaker 4: like maybe two guys that we were slightly all the
- 1:15:45Speaker 4: different on. Otherwise, everybody was within most of them were
- 1:15:48Speaker 4: actually the exact pick or within like two guys here.
- 1:15:52Speaker 4: So I think it tells you something about next year.
- 1:15:55Speaker 4: It's gonna be fun.
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: It sure will be.
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: So brew let everybody know where they can read your
