- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo! I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. We're so glad you're here for episode thirty-four. Lucas: Yeah, thanks to everyone who's been listening. Today we're going to learn some everyday words you use in your home. Luna: Oh, I love practical stuff! What are we starting with? Lucas: Let's start with meza. Meza. That means 'table'. Luna: Meza. Meza. So like the table you eat on? Lucas: Exactly. Meza. Say it with me: meza. Luna: Meza. Lucas: Good. Now let's put it in a simple sentence: Hii ni meza. Hii ni meza. Meaning 'This is a table.' Luna: Hii ni meza. Hii ni meza. So 'hii ni' means 'this is'? Lucas: Right, but careful — 'hii' is used for certain nouns. Meza takes 'hii' because it's a noun class. We'll keep it simple: just remember Hii ni meza. Luna: Okay, Hii ni meza. Got it. What's next? Lucas: Next is kiti. Kiti means 'chair'. Luna: Kiti. Kiti. Like a chair you sit on. Lucas: Yes. And for kiti, we say Hiki ni kiti. Hiki ni kiti. 'This is a chair.' Luna: Hiki ni kiti. So 'hiki' is different from 'hii'. Lucas: Exactly. Different noun class. Don't worry, we'll get used to it with practice. Say it again: Hiki ni kiti. Luna: Hiki ni kiti. Hiki ni kiti. Lucas: Nailed it. Now let's add kitanda. Kitanda means 'bed'. Luna: Kitanda. That sounds like 'kitanda' — oh, bed! I sleep on a kitanda. Lucas: Exactly. For bed, we also say Hiki ni kitanda. Hiki ni kitanda. 'This is a bed.' Luna: Hiki ni kitanda. So kiti and kitanda both use 'hiki'. Lucas: Right. Now one more: mlango. Mlango means 'door'. Luna: Mlango. Yeah, like the door to the room. Lucas: Yes. For mlango, we say Huu ni mlango. Huu ni mlango. 'This is a door.' Luna: Huu ni mlango. So 'huu' is another one. Three different 'this is'! Lucas: Yeah, but you can handle it. Let's practice all four words. Repeat after me: meza. Luna: Meza. Lucas: Kiti. Luna: Kiti. Lucas: Kitanda. Luna: Kitanda. Lucas: Mlango. Luna: Mlango. Lucas: Perfect. Let's try some sentences. Imagine you're in a room. Point to the table and say 'This is a table.' Luna: Hii ni meza. Lucas: Great! Now point to the chair. Luna: Hiki ni kiti. Lucas: Yep. And the bed? Luna: Hiki ni kitanda. Lucas: And the door? Luna: Huu ni mlango. Lucas: Ahh, yes! You did it. Luna: That was fun. But I need a little more practice with meza and kiti. Lucas: Sure. Let's do a quick scene. Imagine we're in a kitchen. There's a table with a chair. I point and say: Hii ni meza. You point to the chair and say... Luna: Hiki ni kiti. Lucas: Perfect. Now there's a door. You say... Luna: Huu ni mlango. Lucas: And the bed is in the other room. You say... Luna: Hiki ni kitanda. Lucas: Excellent. Now let's hear all four sentences together. Luna: Hii ni meza. Hiki ni kiti. Hiki ni kitanda. Huu ni mlango. Lucas: Wow, you really nailed it! I'm proud of you. Luna: Thanks! This was a good episode. I feel like I can label my whole house. Lucas: That's the spirit. Remember: meza, kiti, kitanda, mlango. And the phrases: Hii ni meza, Hiki ni kiti, Hiki ni kitanda, Huu ni mlango. Luna: I'll practice them tonight. Maybe I'll even say 'Huu ni mlango' every time I walk through a door. Lucas: That's such a great way to practice. Thanks for learning with us today on Fexingo. Luna: Yeah, keep practicing, and we'll see you next time. Kwa heri! Lucas: Kwa heri! Happy learning.
