- 0:00Speaker 1: My philosophy was always to hire people who might one
- 0:03Speaker 1: day take my job, and he tried to do exactly that.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Well, he was naked during the interview, so we decided
- 0:09Speaker 2: to pass naked and I fired him on the spot.
- 0:14Speaker 1: This is the Bad Hire, the show with the best
- 0:16Speaker 1: stories about the worst employees.
- 0:19Speaker 3: We fired him.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Of course, people are crazy.
- 0:21Speaker 4: It's like an hr nightmare.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Right, one Bad Hire stole all of it crazy stuff.
- 0:27Speaker 2: She got what she deserved.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Oh, I'm your host, Ken Monroe, and every week we
- 0:33Speaker 1: dive into real life stories from the wild world of
- 0:37Speaker 1: work and what can happen when the wrong person gets
- 0:40Speaker 1: the job. These stories aren't just crazy when they are
- 0:44Speaker 1: cautionary tales about lessons learned the hard way. Let's get started,
- 0:50Speaker 1: all right, Hey everyone, welcome back to The Bad Hire,
- 0:53Speaker 1: the show where we take the best stories and the
- 0:57Speaker 1: most unfortunate employees their interviews and they collide if we
- 1:03Speaker 1: tell great stories about it.
- 1:04Speaker 2: So I feel like we have a slightly different tagline
- 1:07Speaker 2: every time.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Yeah, it is like Nathan's like, we need the tagline.
- 1:12Speaker 2: And I say it different every time. He's like, but
- 1:14Speaker 2: it's always kind of fun to see, Like, what's the
- 1:16Speaker 2: tagle like? Going to be this time to the show
- 1:20Speaker 2: with the best stories and the worst employees. That's and
- 1:23Speaker 2: I hate saying the worst employees. I just think I negative.
- 1:27Speaker 1: I think it's so I changed it to unfortunately I know, yeah,
- 1:31Speaker 1: but unfortunate. Today I was like slow and nizer, it's
- 1:34Speaker 1: unfortunate and yeah, it's like who knows what the experience.
- 1:37Speaker 2: That's that's in our TikTok buyo right now. We can
- 1:39Speaker 2: change it to unfortunate though, I guess that makes sense,
- 1:42Speaker 2: or we can be the unfortunate higher change it to
- 1:46Speaker 2: the unfortunate hire. Thinking about all this stuff, I'll have
- 1:51Speaker 2: to change everything I do. Like the title of the show.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I think it looks good on stuff, like when you
- 2:01Speaker 1: put a hat on that says the bad Hire. Well,
- 2:03Speaker 1: it's also it's one of those things where I think
- 2:04Speaker 1: worn would and someone would be like, bro, what is that.
- 2:07Speaker 2: It's like I was a bad hire. It's one of
- 2:10Speaker 2: those things where we were all kind of surprised that
- 2:12Speaker 2: the bad hire dot com was available, like, oh, we've
- 2:14Speaker 2: got the bad higher dot com.
- 2:16Speaker 1: When I type that in as well, I was available
- 2:17Speaker 1: by balls.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Like eight second. Yeah, it's like the best ten bucks
- 2:21Speaker 2: you've ever met. It was.
- 2:24Speaker 1: It works worst worst case scenarios. Sooner you know, uh,
- 2:29Speaker 1: this doesn't work out this show, you know, we stop.
- 2:31Speaker 1: I'll just take uh uh you know, I'll just take
- 2:35Speaker 1: like people's pictures that are like really terrible employees and
- 2:38Speaker 1: just here's.
- 2:38Speaker 2: A bad hire. Yeah that actually be mean. Yeah, Oh
- 2:43Speaker 2: my god, that's funny.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Well, Emma, Nathan, Emma, nice to have you back. I
- 2:47Speaker 1: see uh comment when you came in. You got your
- 2:49Speaker 1: game face on.
- 2:51Speaker 5: I guess it's the same face I always got on,
- 2:55Speaker 5: ready to go.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Oh my god.
- 2:57Speaker 1: All right, so you guys, uh, yeah to the drill.
- 3:01Speaker 1: We're looking for stories and we'd love to hear yours.
- 3:03Speaker 1: So you know, whether it's a funny story, a bad
- 3:06Speaker 1: hire story, a bad interview story. You know, the range
- 3:12Speaker 1: of stories we've heard is crazy. But what we would
- 3:14Speaker 1: just want to hear your stories that you have when
- 3:16Speaker 1: it comes to hiring people employing people, you know, not
- 3:20Speaker 1: to make fun of it, but to just have fun
- 3:22Speaker 1: a little about it. And you know, we want to
- 3:26Speaker 1: run with your stories and tell them. And so if
- 3:28Speaker 1: you'll submit them are stories, you can either do a
- 3:31Speaker 1: segment you'll see some segments today, or see at least
- 3:33Speaker 1: one segment today. You could sign up for that and
- 3:36Speaker 1: we'll interview you with whatever producers let you tell your
- 3:39Speaker 1: story that way, or you can submit your story and
- 3:42Speaker 1: writing and we'll read it and if you have the
- 3:45Speaker 1: best story for the year, you have a chance to
- 3:48Speaker 1: win ten thousand dollars and we'll give away ten thousand
- 3:51Speaker 1: dollars at the at the year year anniversary of the show.
- 3:54Speaker 1: And you know, fear out another promotion or something to
- 3:59Speaker 1: do the nation here, but it's it's doing good. I've
- 4:01Speaker 1: enjoyed the uh how to enjoyed the stories so far?
- 4:06Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been fun. We've had some sent in that
- 4:08Speaker 2: we've been recording more of these segments and all those
- 4:10Speaker 2: all get entered to win the win the prize. And
- 4:13Speaker 2: so if you have a story you want to be
- 4:16Speaker 2: shown like we're doing today, where like we actually show
- 4:18Speaker 2: a clip of you you telling your story, you can
- 4:20Speaker 2: enter that way, or if you don't want to do that,
- 4:22Speaker 2: you can just type it in. We'll just read it
- 4:24Speaker 2: out loud. And there's lots of different ways to wins money.
- 4:26Speaker 2: But you can find us at the badhire dot com.
- 4:29Speaker 2: That hard to figure out, Yeah, the bad hire dot com.
- 4:32Speaker 1: If you go there you can find a form, you
- 4:35Speaker 1: can reach out and you know, we send out a
- 4:37Speaker 1: lot of email to to folks in the hiring business
- 4:40Speaker 1: to ask them to consider being on the show and
- 4:43Speaker 1: or to ask them to submit a story. So if
- 4:45Speaker 1: you get if you get an email from us, answer it. Yeah,
- 4:49Speaker 1: that's what we really.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Would just say.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Let us let us know that you if you're in
- 4:54Speaker 1: the hiring business, you've got a story.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Well, it's funny because like this you I know you.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Because if I if we sat down and we talked, yeah,
- 5:00Speaker 1: you got to joke it around a little relaxed a
- 5:01Speaker 1: little bit. Sooner or later, you're hiring stories are going
- 5:04Speaker 1: to come out.
- 5:04Speaker 2: And everybody, we've been sitting out because we have been
- 5:06Speaker 2: sitting out a bunch of emails trying to get people
- 5:08Speaker 2: to come be a guest on the show more or
- 5:09Speaker 2: less than one way or another. And we either get
- 5:12Speaker 2: the responsive no never talk to me again, or that
- 5:15Speaker 2: sounds like a lot of fun. There's not a whole
- 5:18Speaker 2: lot You never get the no, never talk to me again.
- 5:21Speaker 2: There's a little bit of that in there, but I
- 5:23Speaker 2: think they probably said it to everybody. Yeah, so maybe
- 5:26Speaker 2: they're not a good fit for the show, but we
- 5:28Speaker 2: haven't had a lot of people saying like, oh yeah,
- 5:30Speaker 2: that sounds fun, Like let me know how I can
- 5:32Speaker 2: be involved. And that's how we've had people sending in
- 5:34Speaker 2: their segments or coming here to be in person on
- 5:37Speaker 2: the show. And it's been a fun project. I love it. Yeah,
- 5:40Speaker 2: all right, so I guess I'll go first. Is that right? Okay?
- 5:43Speaker 2: So here we go.
- 5:45Speaker 1: This was I don't know where this one came from,
- 5:48Speaker 1: but when I was a creative director at a major
- 5:51Speaker 1: advertising agency, I once hired a junior copywriter who seemed
- 5:56Speaker 1: brilliant in the interviews, smart, confident, full of ideas. My
- 6:02Speaker 1: instinct told me something was off, but I ignored it.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Oh.
- 6:07Speaker 1: My philosophy was always to hire people who might one
- 6:11Speaker 1: day take my job, and he tried to do exactly
- 6:15Speaker 1: that almost immediately.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Really, I'm here to take your job.
- 6:20Speaker 3: He certainly thought highly of himself.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Within weeks, I called him going behind my back to
- 6:26Speaker 1: pitch ideas directly to my boss after I had rejected them. Well,
- 6:30Speaker 1: I warned him once, and he apologized, but the behavior continued.
- 6:34Speaker 1: He spent most of his time flattering executives and trying
- 6:38Speaker 1: to impress leadership while treating his peers, especially junior staff, terribly.
- 6:43Speaker 2: It sounds like, ID is that worth the system?
- 6:45Speaker 1: I guess so Ironically, despite his reputation with management apparently
- 6:51Speaker 1: was good. He had a good reputation, was managed, but
- 6:53Speaker 1: his actual work was mediocre. His real talent was convincing
- 6:57Speaker 1: people he was brilliant.
- 7:00Speaker 2: It's good talent.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Six months in the managing director called me into his
- 7:04Speaker 1: office and told me this employee had complained about how
- 7:09Speaker 1: I evaluated his creative work. To my surprise, my ball
- 7:12Speaker 1: seemed to be taking his side.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Oh no, this is not going well.
- 7:16Speaker 1: This guy's genius, So I said, there will always be
- 7:21Speaker 1: someone complaining as long as someone's willing to listen.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Now tell me who do I go to if I
- 7:27Speaker 2: need to complain about you? Oh? Well, he had no answer.
- 7:32Speaker 1: I walked straight to the copywriter's office and I fired
- 7:34Speaker 1: him on the spot.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Ooh. To this day, it's still one of the most
- 7:39Speaker 2: satisfying decisions I've ever made.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Person sounds like the person that they hired, sounds like
- 7:48Speaker 3: the strategic initiative guy.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Do you remember that the guy was just a bunch
- 7:52Speaker 2: of random, various tasks in respect.
- 7:54Speaker 5: Yeah, he was like, I have this very top secret
- 7:57Speaker 5: projuring that I'm working on.
- 7:58Speaker 2: It's super strategic confidence, always worked on something important. Sounds
- 8:03Speaker 2: really cool, but doesn't. Actually this guy it up to.
- 8:05Speaker 1: The to the senior people, and and like the amos,
- 8:08Speaker 1: ain't this big project. You're gonna love it smoothing them.
- 8:12Speaker 1: So this guy knew how to you knew how to
- 8:13Speaker 1: schmooze up, yeah, really trash talk down.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Yeah, which sounds like a toxic combination, I guess. But
- 8:21Speaker 2: did you find the story on REDDITU? Yeah, as soon
- 8:24Speaker 2: as you started reading she started laughing. I was like, oh,
- 8:26Speaker 2: she knows the story. She was the one to find it.
- 8:31Speaker 2: That's funny. That's that is kind of a scary combination
- 8:34Speaker 2: of people who can get in there and just like
- 8:36Speaker 2: be toxic down here, but then like schmooze the people
- 8:39Speaker 2: up here. It's like you don't want to work with
- 8:41Speaker 2: any way like that. Yeah.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Can you imagine, you know, you hire somebody as like
- 8:45Speaker 1: a junior and you they're pitching you ideas, and then
- 8:48Speaker 1: you in an ad agency, which is just you know,
- 8:51Speaker 1: that's it's just idea pitching, right, yes.
- 8:54Speaker 2: And.
- 8:55Speaker 1: You know you see them circle around and you know
- 8:59Speaker 1: they're they're in there talk into your balls, pitching an
- 9:01Speaker 1: idea around you.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Yeah, it's pretty much like asking your mom for something.
- 9:04Speaker 2: She says no, then let me go take it. Ask
- 9:06Speaker 2: my dad. That's it's not allowed. It does kind of
- 9:11Speaker 2: sound like that a little bit of that mom said.
- 9:14Speaker 2: We could go with Kim McDonald. Yeah, it's yeah, may
- 9:16Speaker 2: be okay at home.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Before we dive back into the chaos on the bad hire,

- 10:00Speaker 1: ex dot io.
- 10:02Speaker 2: All right, I got a couple of stories. The first one,
- 10:05Speaker 2: I've got a video clip from an interview that I did,
- 10:07Speaker 2: and I've got a story to read out loud, So
- 10:09Speaker 2: we want to play this clip.
- 10:12Speaker 4: I was working in Florida installing a performance appraisal system
- 10:16Speaker 4: for the company. And we were bringing on all the
- 10:19Speaker 4: managers to Florida for a week from Texas. And while
- 10:23Speaker 4: I was gone, my admin she'd been promoted and she
- 10:27Speaker 4: was hiring her replacement and so I and she was phenomenal,
- 10:30Speaker 4: that's why she was being promoted. And the new admin
- 10:33Speaker 4: started and for six weeks, I'm off site. I'm not
- 10:37Speaker 4: in the office, so relying on getting phone calls, messages,
- 10:42Speaker 4: things that are coming in, things that need to be done,
- 10:45Speaker 4: and things are getting missed. It was just very, very odd.
- 10:48Speaker 4: And I talked with the employee a couple times and said,
- 10:51Speaker 4: you know, do you remember that you got a call
- 10:54Speaker 4: from ABC and they needed me to call them and
- 10:57Speaker 4: contact them. No, I don't remember that, okay, And so
- 11:00Speaker 4: it happened a few times, and finally I said, are
- 11:03Speaker 4: you writing down messages? And she said, I don't have
- 11:07Speaker 4: time to do that, and I said, well, you're gonna
- 11:10Speaker 4: have to because you're not remembering messages. And so she
- 11:13Speaker 4: started writing them down, and when I'd get called to
- 11:16Speaker 4: get them at the end of the day, she'd say, oh,
- 11:19Speaker 4: I forgot to write the phone number down. I've got
- 11:20Speaker 4: his first name, but I don't have so.
- 11:26Speaker 1: It was not.
- 11:27Speaker 4: Comical, but it was comical, and she did not beneath
- 11:31Speaker 4: the ninety days that's funny.
- 11:33Speaker 2: It's not funny, but it is. It's like and mean,
- 11:36Speaker 2: it's like a reception herself remembering that story. It's like
- 11:40Speaker 2: she told that. I like, it's like, hey, your one
- 11:44Speaker 2: job is to write down messages and get them to me.
- 11:47Speaker 2: He's like, oh, I don't have time for that.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Who writes down their first name?
- 11:51Speaker 2: Bob called you? And yeah, not even a last names.
- 11:55Speaker 2: What's Bob's number? Oh? You know? Yeah, I have to
- 11:59Speaker 2: write down the phone number? Two? You may here's out that.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Hey, hey, you're really.
- 12:04Speaker 3: Asking a lot of here to write downer.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Okay. So it's like, hey, it's Bob, right, Bob calls it,
- 12:10Speaker 2: you know, she says. You know. The girl's like, yeah, hey,
- 12:14Speaker 2: hey Bob, Yeah, can you so and so there?
- 12:16Speaker 1: No, there, can I take a message? Yeah it's Bob
- 12:20Speaker 1: so and so there's And she's like, okay, Bob, I
- 12:22Speaker 1: got it.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Oh, okay, by calling back at this number and I
- 12:28Speaker 2: need to pass on this message. Okay, got it? Baba
- 12:30Speaker 2: called yet? What do you say? Which is Bob I
- 12:34Speaker 2: don't know.
- 12:36Speaker 3: Because imagine there's more than one Bob and you don't know,
- 12:39Speaker 3: you don't.
- 12:40Speaker 2: Know what, I don't know. What else is the admin
- 12:42Speaker 2: doing that They don't have time to write down some messages,
- 12:45Speaker 2: write down a number that's yes, she cracked herself up.
- 12:51Speaker 2: You know.
- 12:52Speaker 1: For those of you who don't remember there, you know,
- 12:55Speaker 1: it used to be that you had people call and
- 12:58Speaker 1: you would get messages and they would be voicemail or yeah,
- 13:02Speaker 1: if you had an assistant back in the day, even
- 13:05Speaker 1: when you have voicemail, you know, your your assistant would
- 13:09Speaker 1: take the take the message.
- 13:10Speaker 2: You had these pads where like the pages of.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Messages would be autumn, you know, and you've get these
- 13:16Speaker 1: little slips of paper with here's people who called you.
- 13:19Speaker 1: If you got to slip a paper with Bob, it'd
- 13:21Speaker 1: be like, like, get an email from your sistant just
- 13:24Speaker 1: said Bob called.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Yeah, like what or it's like Jerry is in the
- 13:28Speaker 2: hospital and needs help and call it called this number
- 13:30Speaker 2: and you need to be here this time. And then
- 13:32Speaker 2: you just get the message like, oh, somebody's in the hospital.
- 13:34Speaker 2: It's like who what what are the details in hospital? Yeah,
- 13:38Speaker 2: Bob called was hurt? Some details here oh, anyway, said
- 13:44Speaker 2: that that's funny all right. The other one I just
- 13:45Speaker 2: found on Reddit, but here you go. I once set
- 13:49Speaker 2: up a job interview for my friend's nephew, let's call
- 13:53Speaker 2: the nephew Paul. A company that I knew was hiring
- 13:57Speaker 2: about thirty college students for summer work, and that nephew's
- 14:01Speaker 2: major lineup perfectly with what the company actually did. And
- 14:05Speaker 2: I also knew the hiring manager for this job personally,
- 14:08Speaker 2: so I felt like it was a great opportunity. A
- 14:10Speaker 2: couple of weeks later, the nephew's uncle emailed me and
- 14:13Speaker 2: asked how things went. So I reached out to my
- 14:16Speaker 2: friend in HR and I said to him, Hey, how
- 14:19Speaker 2: the interview go. The HR guy said great, we needed
- 14:21Speaker 2: thirty people and we had We only had an interview
- 14:24Speaker 2: with thirty one candidates, so we were able to fill
- 14:28Speaker 2: all the spots. And I said, oh, that's nice. So
- 14:29Speaker 2: how was Paul one of them? And there's an awkward
- 14:33Speaker 2: pause and he said yes he was, and I said
- 14:38Speaker 2: what happened? He goes, well, he was naked during the interview,
- 14:42Speaker 2: so we decided to pass naked. He was naked during
- 14:47Speaker 2: the interview, so I decided to pass. I said, what
- 14:49Speaker 2: are you serious. There's no way that he would show
- 14:51Speaker 2: up to an interview naked, and my friend said, well,
- 14:54Speaker 2: it was a zoom interview. Apparently when they started the
- 14:58Speaker 2: call and they turned on the video, Paul was just
- 15:00Speaker 2: lying in bed completely naked, and so I said, I
- 15:03Speaker 2: said to the HR guy, well, maybe he didn't realize
- 15:05Speaker 2: that you could see him, was it? Maybe he thought
- 15:07Speaker 2: it was audio only And my friend said, well that's
- 15:09Speaker 2: what we thought too, is We told him, hey, just
- 15:11Speaker 2: so you know, we can see you, and Paul said,
- 15:14Speaker 2: oh sorry. He pulled a sheet over himself, and they said,
- 15:17Speaker 2: do you want to reschedule the interview? He's like, no,
- 15:19Speaker 2: I'm good, we can keep going. And so yeah, we
- 15:21Speaker 2: decided to pass. So sorry about that, Paul. Oh my god.
- 15:25Speaker 3: How old is Paul?
- 15:26Speaker 2: I don't know, hopefully least eighteen, but I was sure
- 15:33Speaker 2: so he was. He was the thirty first candidate and
- 15:35Speaker 2: didn't get that one one empty spot.
- 15:37Speaker 1: We take thirty eight, thirty one, you're the thirty four
- 15:40Speaker 1: what and it happens to be the gap that was
- 15:42Speaker 1: referred to.
- 15:42Speaker 2: This is like Cat and Azzle or two point the
- 15:46Speaker 2: naked cat that is there is still my favorite story.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Now that's good of a T shirt. Yeah. Just in fact, there.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Are so many Zoom interviews from bad, just really bad,
- 15:59Speaker 1: just great stories about really.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Bad interviews on Zoom. Yeah, you know.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Because here we've had I've had a couple where, you know,
- 16:08Speaker 1: I've just really had to get on someone about how
- 16:12Speaker 1: they got onto a Zoom call. Yeah, just you know,
- 16:16Speaker 1: don't I think we talked about this before. You remember
- 16:18Speaker 1: the first that you know, when when COVID first happened,
- 16:21Speaker 1: everybody went and everybody showed up to Zoom the next
- 16:24Speaker 1: week and everyone was looking sharp and.
- 16:25Speaker 2: After Yeah, it was all dressed up. They actually suit
- 16:29Speaker 2: and tie every day, and then it was a student
- 16:31Speaker 2: tie with sweatpants, and then it was just all sweatpants everything. Yeah,
- 16:35Speaker 2: slowly just and the it was Paul just not wearing anything.
- 16:38Speaker 2: You know, I haven't showered in a week. You know,
- 16:40Speaker 2: everybody turns.
- 16:41Speaker 1: It went from bright eyed and everybody's going to all
- 16:44Speaker 1: cameras off, you goes.
- 16:46Speaker 2: A camera on. Uh, I'm actually at Marshalls right now
- 16:51Speaker 2: with a checkout my guests. Yeah, there's a lot of
- 16:55Speaker 2: those stories.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Do I had a call with someone of this today,
- 16:59Speaker 1: I mean yesterday and it was three three folks from
- 17:03Speaker 1: their from their team, and one of them they had
- 17:06Speaker 1: the fake backgrounds going, you know, and one of them
- 17:11Speaker 1: was sounded like he was.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Standing on a street corner.
- 17:14Speaker 1: I mean, it was just like traffic, other people voices.
- 17:21Speaker 2: I mean it was.
- 17:21Speaker 1: I was like, this guy, I think he's maybe he
- 17:24Speaker 1: was sitting in his car, you know, I don't know,
- 17:27Speaker 1: but I was like, really, why did you get on
- 17:30Speaker 1: this phone call? If you're gonna yeah, you know, at
- 17:33Speaker 1: least put it on mute. Wait, Marcus, can you actually
- 17:36Speaker 1: pull up a clip from YouTube real fast? With that'd
- 17:38Speaker 1: be hard I was working. Just just go to YouTube
- 17:42Speaker 1: real fast and type type this in because I want
- 17:46Speaker 1: you to see this.
- 17:47Speaker 2: And Ken, there's just one guy who, especially during COVID,
- 17:51Speaker 2: he would just go around doing interviews and stuff like
- 17:54Speaker 2: with a green screen behind him, but was like attached
- 17:57Speaker 2: to his back as he's doing all these crazy things
- 17:59Speaker 2: like snowboarding and stuff and just pretend like everything's fine
- 18:02Speaker 2: as he's like flying through the air. So so you
- 18:04Speaker 2: go to YouTube, just type in it's Franky Lapenna and
- 18:09Speaker 2: just like water slide or something like that, and green's
- 18:13Speaker 2: green or something like that. Because I think Ken you
- 18:16Speaker 2: need to see this.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm always I'm not a big fan of the
- 18:21Speaker 1: fake backgrounds anyway, you know, I just I was. I
- 18:25Speaker 1: was the same call.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Two of them had the exact same background on. Yeah right,
- 18:31Speaker 2: oh that's right. Yeah, And I'm like, I don't know,
- 18:35Speaker 2: it looks weird.
- 18:36Speaker 1: You're looking at him and like they look like they're
- 18:37Speaker 1: standing in some room at some random.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Really right the opportunity.
- 18:47Speaker 1: Okay, and Frank, you have those projections for Q three.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Yeah, they pull him up right here real quick, pull
- 18:52Speaker 2: him up Batchie and Frank, are you okay? Man made
- 19:03Speaker 2: it big from doing that, apparently ended up. So I
- 19:05Speaker 2: guess maybe maybe it start I always only one or
- 19:07Speaker 2: two of those. Maybe it started as a thing and
- 19:09Speaker 2: then you just took it to the extreme, whereas they
- 19:11Speaker 2: got an NFL game or whatever. But I think the
- 19:13Speaker 2: first one he was actually pranking somebody and it was
- 19:15Speaker 2: like semi believable at first, and then it just went
- 19:17Speaker 2: to the extreme. But that probably originated dirty. No, it's it's.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Like watching I hate the fake backgrounds.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Now, I think I've got a fake backfron So I
- 19:27Speaker 2: got I gotta change mind? Can that on? Yim a lot?
- 19:30Speaker 1: I mean I get it if you just don't have
- 19:33Speaker 1: the right place my Chex branded at least though, Yeah,
- 19:36Speaker 1: so I got that. Oh if they do something like that, right,
- 19:39Speaker 1: if you brand it and it's just you know, yours,
- 19:44Speaker 1: that's kind of cool. But I was sitting there on
- 19:47Speaker 1: the thing and like two people sat by side. It
- 19:49Speaker 1: looks like they're sitting, you know, in the same exact room.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Yeah, because you get on Google Meet or Zoom or whatever,
- 19:56Speaker 2: and they have the virtual screens and there's like the
- 20:00Speaker 2: first choice for everybody, So everybody kind of all has
- 20:02Speaker 2: that same living room as their background. Yeah.
- 20:04Speaker 1: In fact, make sure this happens here, right, If we're
- 20:08Speaker 1: going to put backgrounds, it should be backgrounds of our office.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Take photos, you know, have somebody take photos in our office.
- 20:16Speaker 2: You know, we got really cool office Old Hill.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Why would we have some fake office in New York,
- 20:23Speaker 1: you know in the background we.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Could get you know, they have those, you know, they
- 20:27Speaker 2: have those looping live video backgrounds. We just have one
- 20:30Speaker 2: of like living a random walk around to the background
- 20:33Speaker 2: and stuff like that.
- 20:33Speaker 1: I heard some I heard some guy talking the other day.
- 20:36Speaker 1: I think he was a judge, and he was furious
- 20:40Speaker 1: about somebody who would you know, got online and had
- 20:44Speaker 1: that and it had a cat. The video was a
- 20:47Speaker 1: cat walking back and.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Forth behind the guy. Yeah, he was so furious over it.
- 20:53Speaker 2: I'm just like, you know, I don't know. I don't
- 20:55Speaker 2: know why. Well, you can make on this. You can
- 20:57Speaker 2: make your own virtual video background behind you. And there's
- 21:00Speaker 2: this one where a guy sitting at his thing. We
- 21:02Speaker 2: put it. He had pre recorded him walking up behind
- 21:05Speaker 2: himself and pouring himself a cup of coffee. So during
- 21:09Speaker 2: all he's sitting there, just like his clode comes up
- 21:11Speaker 2: and just pours. It would open and did that. Oh really,
- 21:16Speaker 2: did you break somebody? I was such an idiot.
- 21:19Speaker 1: I cut a video of me walking into my office
- 21:21Speaker 1: and walking behind and doing something behind me, and then
- 21:25Speaker 1: came in and then I had you know, I had
- 21:27Speaker 1: just stopped and looked down at myself, and so when
- 21:29Speaker 1: it happened, I was like, looked up at myself.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Oh it's Ken's twin. Yeah, walk about you. I was
- 21:34Speaker 2: right in the middle of a meeting that pulled it off.
- 21:37Speaker 2: That's funny. Yeah, lots of green screen talk. All right,
- 21:40Speaker 2: So what's up? Are you? You still gotta go?
- 21:42Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 21:42Speaker 2: Oh sorry, we just went off the ring. Are we ready.
- 21:46Speaker 2: All right, We're sorry with ready game base. Yeah, let's go.
- 21:50Speaker 3: This one sounds really similar to the one that you
- 21:53Speaker 3: just told.
- 21:56Speaker 5: Years ago, a colleague and I interviewed a man named
- 21:58Speaker 5: Miles for a Mary Junior's civil service position.
- 22:02Speaker 3: On paper, he was overqualified, private school, a law degree,
- 22:05Speaker 3: well spoken, so we assumed he had simply taken an
- 22:08Speaker 3: unusual career path. For about a year, he did the
- 22:11Speaker 3: job reasonably well, though coworkers noticed he was moody and
- 22:14Speaker 3: often rude, even to his own family when they called
- 22:17Speaker 3: the office. Eventually, complaints started coming in that he ignored
- 22:20Speaker 3: instructions or treated colleagues poorly. It became clear Miles believed
- 22:25Speaker 3: the job and many people around him were beneath him.
- 22:28Speaker 3: I sat him down and explained that while he was
- 22:30Speaker 3: free to aim for something better, he still needed to
- 22:32Speaker 3: do the job he'd been hired for. Instead of responding normally,
- 22:35Speaker 3: he stood there silently, furious, clinching his fists like a
- 22:39Speaker 3: child being scotted.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Oh wow, like Arthur in the meme.
- 22:42Speaker 5: Yes, exactly like that.
- 22:47Speaker 3: We'll have to get to that.
- 22:50Speaker 5: Not long after I moved to another role. One of
- 22:53Speaker 5: Miles's new task was organizing staff photos. For updated security passes. Oddly,
- 22:57Speaker 5: he photographed everyone except me. After three months, I had
- 23:01Speaker 5: to order him to come take the photo, which he
- 23:03Speaker 5: did reluctantly and then lost it quote unquote, my past
- 23:07Speaker 5: was never issued. I warned leadership that his attitude would
- 23:10Speaker 5: eventually cause a serious problem, but they dismissed it. A
- 23:13Speaker 5: few months later, the department sold some old filing cabinets.
- 23:17Speaker 5: Miles had been told to make sure they were empty
- 23:19Speaker 5: before they went out. He didn't bother. The company that
- 23:22Speaker 5: bought them later contacted us to say several cabinets still
- 23:25Speaker 5: contained confidential files personal information about members of the public.
- 23:29Speaker 5: That was a moment everyone finally realized Myles was the
- 23:32Speaker 5: was exactly the problem.
- 23:33Speaker 2: I had warned the Fowles, that's not good man. All
- 23:38Speaker 2: his stars with like a bad attitude too, like, oh
- 23:40Speaker 2: this is all beneath me. Yeah, that's crazy. I think
- 23:44Speaker 2: kind of a theme of like yeah, today's episodes. Yeah, well,
- 23:49Speaker 2: just in general, you see these stories.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Where it's like the stem of I don't know, they have.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Liked what do you look it up? I go market mark,
- 24:02Speaker 2: what do you what do you Yeah? Click, yeah, there
- 24:07Speaker 2: you go. So that was a little the story you
- 24:10Speaker 2: guys would do this with his fists, like yeah, that's
- 24:14Speaker 2: right before he punched his sister d w I think
- 24:16Speaker 2: in the famous episode. So that was Miles just thinking
- 24:21Speaker 2: that he was better than everybody else. I guess. So
- 24:25Speaker 2: at first it was him being like prideful, and then
- 24:27Speaker 2: it was him Was he doing that on purpose leaving
- 24:30Speaker 2: the files and the filing cabinet to try and like
- 24:32Speaker 2: or would he just be at his job?
- 24:34Speaker 5: I think he was just doing it on purpose because
- 24:36Speaker 5: he thought that everybody was beneath him, so he was like,
- 24:38Speaker 5: I don't have to listen to these people.
- 24:39Speaker 2: I guess. So that's what it sounded like and is
- 24:42Speaker 2: getting out there. Yeah, wow, dang, that's crazy. Is that
- 24:48Speaker 2: that for you today? Yes? That is all my stories too.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Nice work. Yeah, that's that was fun. Yeah, good, good,
- 24:55Speaker 2: good show. I liked it. Yeah, is our first YouTube
- 24:59Speaker 2: pull up. It was thanks Marcus, appreciate it and thanks

- 25:14Speaker 1: Getting his getting his internship in. That's kind of cool.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Nice. Yeah, I loved it.
- 25:21Speaker 1: My sister went there, so I had to I had
- 25:23Speaker 1: to chop it.
- 25:24Speaker 2: Up with him about it. We might be recording that
- 25:26Speaker 2: in the whole party. We'll just we'll pass it into
- 25:28Speaker 2: the podcast. We'll see.
