Transcript
- 0:07Hi, good afternoon. Welcome Miller and Condon on an
- 0:11overcast Monday here in the capital city.
- 0:13We welcome you as we kick off our week of sports conversation.
- 0:17Trent Condon and Ken Miller with you for the next couple of
- 0:19hours, right until just before 2O clock here on a Monday.
- 0:23Here's what's coming up on our program.
- 0:26Scott Document is off. He's in Los Angeles covering the
- 0:29Big 10 meetings. Hopefully there'll be some news
- 0:32coming out of that. I'm guessing it's mostly well
- 0:35playoff related, but we will talk to Doc next week.
- 0:38Today we're going to talk to David Eichelt.
- 0:40He just posted something on the I will receiving room.
- 0:44I will do football, basketball, etcetera with David Eichelt.
- 0:47224, seven sports coming up at 12:25, Bill Seals at 12:45.
- 0:53Hopefully the meet the Coaches caravan that is coming through
- 0:58Des Moines will be wrapped up by that time and Bill will be able
- 1:02to jump on and recap just as it's a wrapping up what what he
- 1:07heard, if anything, coming out of the first opportunity to
- 1:10spend some time with the coaching staff as they make
- 1:12their way through the state of Iowa.
- 1:16Bill Seals 1245 Matt Snyder talks baseball with Trenton
- 1:19eyes. He does every Monday or most
- 1:20Mondays at 1:00. Major League Baseball
- 1:22conversation with Major League Baseball columnist, writer Matt
- 1:26Snyder from CBSSports.com. And then long time golf rider
- 1:31Matt Rudy will join us at 1:30. We'll put a bow on the PGA.
- 1:34And you're right, by the way. Yeah, it does.
- 1:38It doesn't fit. It doesn't fit in May.
- 1:41What are you coming along with? Yeah, man, it's hard to get me
- 1:44to change my stance, but I've seen it a couple of years now.
- 1:47It just didn't feel like a major.
- 1:49It really did. And Aaron Rice sighed.
- 1:50I mean, Rory McIlroy could have won, and I would have felt the
- 1:53same way. It just didn't have that kind
- 1:55of, I don't know, special feeling.
- 1:57I still, I still think there's no other place to put it.
- 2:01I mean, it's got to compete with football in August.
- 2:03But maybe that's kind of the last grasp of summer sports.
- 2:07So maybe you, you know, maybe you lead lead you over to the TV
- 2:10to watch that. But I always thought it didn't
- 2:14work in August. I'm convinced it doesn't.
- 2:16In May. We'll see what the PGA does.
- 2:18Having said that, your thoughts on the tournament?
- 2:21Boring. Yeah, kind of, right.
- 2:23I mean, it was close for a while, but it was not the
- 2:26biggest names. Maybe Ron was in there and Rory
- 2:30was in there. I don't know.
- 2:32It just he had old bird for a while but he couldn't make a
- 2:34putt. He never makes a putt on Sunday
- 2:36trend he. Really.
- 2:37Doesn't that he's so talented. Yeah, you can see Sunday.
- 2:41Yeah, you can see the talents obviously there.
- 2:43He's still also young. Yeah.
- 2:45And maybe just because our expectations were so big for
- 2:47him, I started telling you about the Swedish kid.
- 2:49You did a long time. Ago play the Texas tacket and
- 2:52this is going to be a guy and he's been good, but we're
- 2:55waiting for that breakthrough moment from him, the leaderboard
- 2:58and just on Sunday, you're waiting all right, you got all
- 3:01these guys bunched together. This is going to be great golf.
- 3:03It wasn't. And Justin Thomas was a big
- 3:05name. Yes, he's sitting in clubos.
- 3:07Yes, absolutely. He goes out and and that was the
- 3:09thing going into Sunday. I see Thomas shoots A-65.
- 3:12Somebody else shot what, a 62, 63?
- 3:14Really. I didn't see that.
- 3:15Yeah, that was real early in the day.
- 3:17I'm like, here we go. I'm. 63 Kurt Katyama.
- 3:20Yeah, Katyama. So I thought, here we go.
- 3:22We're going to see a great Sunday with a bunch of different
- 3:24guys. It's going to be back and forth.
- 3:26Nobody made a putt. It was just boring golf.
- 3:29Well, Rye made a pot. He.
- 3:32Made he made the pot on 17. What, a back nine he put
- 3:36together. Deserving winner.
- 3:37I mean, this wasn't a yeah, this wasn't a fluke that he, you
- 3:40know, banged one off a couple of trees and ended up right by the
- 3:43cup. This was a heck of a round for
- 3:45him as he wins his major and Aaron Rye now the PGA winner.
- 3:50But it's just some something was lacking.
- 3:52I'm I'm anxious to get Matt Rudy's perspective on what he
- 3:56saw this past week. I'm guessing the numbers are
- 3:58going to be bad. Oh, I think so, TV wise.
- 4:00Yes, absolutely. You know, another component that
- 4:02I heard talking about changing calendar and some of the things
- 4:05that I read before we talked to Matt last week is there is a
- 4:08thought that the PGA Tour when they're kind of reimagining of
- 4:12what they're going to do. We know the playoffs don't work.
- 4:15They just they don't Casual. It doesn't work for the casual
- 4:17fan out there. And then more in.
- 4:19Football, yes, And you're getting into football.
- 4:21But a thought, and this would intrigue me and I think would
- 4:23intrigue you as well, is having some of those August tournaments
- 4:27if they don't move the PGA, but trying to elevate the playoffs
- 4:30in some kind of form and fashion.
- 4:32Having a couple of them at minimum on the West Coast and
- 4:36then you get into prime time TV. Yes, that's an idea.
- 4:39I said that's the best idea I have heard.
- 4:41It would have to be August. You have to get in front of
- 4:44college football on Saturday night and on Sunday night in the
- 4:46NFL. But.
- 4:47But if it did, August is an option.
- 4:50Yeah, that would move the needle.
- 4:51Absolutely would. We'll see where it goes.
- 4:53Finish up about 8:00 our time, something like that. 9:00 on the
- 4:56East Coast. Last night was God awful on TV.
- 4:58I mean, it was. It was absolutely terrible.
- 5:01We watched Harry Potter. Did you?
- 5:03Yes, I watched Troy. Shoot them.
- 5:06You went back to the Gators, huh?
- 5:08Well, I've got a bunch of them on tape.
- 5:09Oh, yeah. So one of the episodes I watched
- 5:12last night. This is how crazy these people
- 5:14are. Hey, they're hunting alligators.
- 5:16Yes, right. With a string and a hook.
- 5:18Yeah, they got a gun once you get them to the boat.
- 5:20But there's Troy's 82 year old mom.
- 5:23Oh, geez. In the boat.
- 5:26Was she helping get the Gator in?
- 5:28She was she was in verbally encouraged there you go to shoot
- 5:31him but but so swamp people. I just have to have something
- 5:37on. I know it's good noise from the
- 5:38idiot box. That's what did you guys my old
- 5:40man called it absolutely idiot box.
- 5:42Turn the idiot box off. Seattle and the Padres.
- 5:47Terrible baseball, awful. And trying to watch the game. 7
- 5:52Cavs, Pistons. I turned it off.
- 5:54I turned it off, too. Yeah, it was awful.
- 5:57I mean, feel free to You got the home crowd, you're coming from
- 6:00behind, you've got an opportunity to play the Knicks.
- 6:04And that's the egg that the Pistons laid.
- 6:06And they were a slight favorite last night.
- 6:08Or what? What, 4 1/2?
- 6:09Was it 4 1/2? I thought it was 2 1/2.
- 6:11They've got the four and a half. How would you have liked to bet
- 6:13Cleveland? Talk about it?
- 6:15No sweat. You cruised in, it was ugly.
- 6:20Oh, terrible. And on top of it, it was on
- 6:21Prime and it was on Prime. And once you flip away?
- 6:24No, I didn't try to go back. Unless you get an alert or you
- 6:27happen to flip out of your phone.
- 6:28Watch your necks. Yeah, covered on.
- 6:29Your something like that. If that's not happening, you're
- 6:32not getting back there. Nope.
- 6:34And we're not going to get, I don't think true numbers.
- 6:36No, probably. I always wonder about those
- 6:38streaming numbers too and what what is the reality behind it
- 6:42now. I think they can also actually
- 6:43judge it better because it's very simple.
- 6:46Yeah, you would think yes. Right.
- 6:48Yeah, I mean, all right, they clicked on it.
- 6:49Wrong on their account, yeah. But that's another thing too,
- 6:52where, I mean, you see some of the YouTube metrics and I deal
- 6:55with that a lot with my podcast and you see it well, what?
- 6:58Concert. Are you held to a certain number
- 7:00or something? Like that, we're not held to it,
- 7:01but it's something that are. You rewarded if you can do a
- 7:04different threshold. Well done.
- 7:06And, and subscribers and those kind of things, but what
- 7:08constitutes a watch here on radio?
- 7:12People use Diaries. That's how we get our numbers.
- 7:15And they have to actually write down the name of your show or
- 7:18the station that you're on. What?
- 7:19Time you're listening. Those are the things what long?
- 7:21You're listening for. And the people actually have to
- 7:24do it, and we're grateful. That you do by.
- 7:25Those, yes, absolutely. And if you got one of those
- 7:27books, don't forget Miller and Conda Nuda too.
- 7:29Apparently, they haven't. Trent, we're doing very.
- 7:31Well, that is very true. On the other side, you see, like
- 7:35on Twitter, this has this many impressions.
- 7:38What's an impression? Yeah, really?
- 7:39Do you read the whole thing? On Facebook, it feels like 80%
- 7:43of them are ads now when I'm on Facebook and I don't go there
- 7:47nearly as often as I once did, but you see those same kind of.
- 7:50Things I'm glad I'm not on. There, Yeah.
- 7:52And there's there's multitude. Now I think Instagram is about
- 7:55the only nice. One is it?
- 7:56Yeah, I'm not on that either. And that's not very good either.
- 7:59But is it all right? Yes.
- 8:01You saw it because you were scrolling past it.
- 8:03So that's an impression. So if I scroll past something
- 8:06they get, they get. If even if you hesitate, maybe
- 8:08for a moment. I don't know.
- 8:09I'm I'm not against giving them numbers.
- 8:11I'm really, I'll never, I don't understand people.
- 8:14I'm not clicking on that. I'm not going to give them a
- 8:16click, right? Why?
- 8:17What difference does it make? How does it harm you?
- 8:19If it interests you. Right.
- 8:20Yeah. So if I click on a video and
- 8:23it's 8 minutes and I watch 5 seconds.
- 8:25That's an impression. Is the video.
- 8:28And now it's a view, Yes, it's a view.
- 8:30You didn't watch 8 minutes, somebody watched 5 seconds.
- 8:33Like this is stupid, right? Moving on.
- 8:35But that's a view that's a little bit different than our
- 8:38business, you know, much different.
- 8:41Interesting. Well, we will see where the PGA
- 8:45ends up, hopefully. Well, here's my take.
- 8:48When it comes to the NBA, do you think the Western Conference
- 8:52maybe has a chance to be better than the Eastern Conference
- 8:54Final? I don't think either we're going
- 8:56to be very. Good.
- 8:57You don't. I don't.
- 8:59No. OK, because the Spurs beat OK C4
- 9:03of five in the regular season. In trouble?
- 9:07So are you taking the Spurs or you just think they are you
- 9:09because you're all over, OK. CI am I still believe in the old
- 9:15school way of thinking of the NBA.
- 9:17Their steps. The Pacers didn't take steps
- 9:19last year. They just we came onto the scene
- 9:21and Al Burton had a couple of daggers against the Knicks and
- 9:23and they skipped a step. That was such a fun.
- 9:26Unbelievable. Then, but I'm used to what the
- 9:30Pistons had to do getting past the Celtics and what the Bulls
- 9:33had to do getting past the Pistons and those steps that are
- 9:37just necessary. We've seen that even with OKC
- 9:39going back a couple years and you just that is the reality for
- 9:42the most part of the NBA. Basketball.
- 9:44So the Spurs have to take. They've got one more hill to
- 9:46climb before we anoint them, yes?
- 9:48There, there's one more lump in front of them.
- 9:50Maybe it's 4/2. I think it might be 4.
- 9:52One, I think they're going to cruise, and I think the Knicks
- 9:55are going to cruise. Well, I think the Knicks are
- 9:56home free, yeah. But I have that ticket.
- 9:59Thunder over Knicks from before the season.
- 10:03Prior to yes, you have that as the exact.
- 10:05The exacta. What did you get on that?
- 10:0813 to 1 wasn't great. And it's shorter than I would
- 10:11have thought, but everybody's got OKC on top.
- 10:14Yeah, absolutely right. It was one of those boosts on
- 10:17DraftKings. So I'm like, OK, I'll do that,
- 10:18jump on there, hit the boost 13 to 114 to 1, something like
- 10:22that. But do I take 10 bucks on both
- 10:26the Cavs and the Spurs to win this series?
- 10:30Both of the prices are about the same.
- 10:32Just to guarantee myself all right, you're going to get a
- 10:34profit out of it if you do it that way.
- 10:35So you're going to parlay the two conference winners together
- 10:38to get. Something.
- 10:38Just one each, one each. It's an individual bet on both
- 10:41of them, and if I get one wrong, so be it.
- 10:44At least I got a little something back.
- 10:46Well, it doesn't hurt. I mean, I'm in a good.
- 10:48I'm in a good spot. Yeah, you are in a good spot.
- 10:49Speaking of DraftKings, did you see that?
- 10:52And this is the taxi situation when it comes to sports wagering
- 10:57in Illinois. Remember the big to do.
- 11:00When DraftKings and the and Wrigley Field partnered up with
- 11:03that spanking new bar slash restaurant, it was great.
- 11:06It was huge. Went there with the Circa crew.
- 11:09We were in town, yeah. And it's pretty big, right?
- 11:12It's pretty well done. Yeah, and the the people from
- 11:15Wild Rose were there, so we had a nice booth up upstairs before
- 11:18the Iowa Northwestern came out. Kings is in partnership with
- 11:21Wild Rose as Circa. Yes, really fun time, really
- 11:24cool venue. I wonder what I wonder what the
- 11:27rent costs and then you couple it with, so can you explain why
- 11:32the rules in Illinois are so difficult and there's many
- 11:34sports book operators out there that are saying it is not
- 11:38financially viable. Well, they they in the state of
- 11:40Illinois, correct? They went into the state of
- 11:42Illinois with a tax rate of X, right, knowing that they could
- 11:47offer fair lines and the customers would get a would and
- 11:52they wouldn't have to, you know, manipulate the line.
- 11:55So they've got more of an edge over the customers.
- 11:58Well, when they went into Illinois, the tax rate was X.
- 12:02The leadership in Illinois said, yeah, you know what?
- 12:05That's what it was when we came in.
- 12:07We're just going to change this. Instead of the tax rate being X,
- 12:10we're going to make it XX or X * 2.
- 12:13And now it's just not feasible to A unless you want to totally
- 12:18screw the customers or or lose your shirt as an operator, you
- 12:25you have to swallow hard. And I'm guessing this is going
- 12:28to be pricey for DraftKings to get out of Illinois.
- 12:31All that money they invested in in the book to begin with.
- 12:33It's going to become a bar slash restaurant and it's going to be,
- 12:37I would anticipate somewhere down the road.
- 12:40So could you. You couldn't get access to
- 12:42Wrigley Field through the book, correct?
- 12:44Correct. You had to leave and go out
- 12:46again. I anticipate that somehow, you
- 12:48know, they'll be joined at some point, but that's what it is.
- 12:51It's just it's just not possible.
- 12:53It's like that's why why when sports wagering first came to
- 12:56Iowa, everybody wanted to be here because of the tax rate was
- 13:01set at such a number where it was fair to the operators and
- 13:04fair to the customers. Now, and it remains that way to
- 13:07this day, Illinois, it was fair to the operators, fair to the
- 13:11customers. Now it's unfair to the operators
- 13:14and who loses the customers because they're going to pass it
- 13:16on. This from the Chicago Tribune.
- 13:18In 2024, the state of Illinois increased the tax rate as high
- 13:22as 40% for larger online and retail sports betting platforms.
- 13:27That is based on adjusted gross wagering revenue.
- 13:30Last year also, Illinois added per wager tax of $0.25 each each
- 13:34bet and that's why you saw a lot of the operators.
- 13:37We have to have some kind of minimum.
- 13:38Again, have a $0.25 bet for people who just bet in a buck.
- 13:42Right. Yeah, I.
- 13:42Mean that's just again, you're talking about killing that it's.
- 13:45Screwing the customers. Absolutely, and that is going up
- 13:48to $0.50 per wager. After sports book fields more
- 13:50than 20 million bets in a year, that increases as well for
- 13:54DraftKings. This again from the Chicago
- 13:56Tribune. Strike three for the Wrigley
- 13:58Field venue may have been a new 10.25% tax implemented by
- 14:03Chicago in January on adjusted gross sports wagering receipts,
- 14:07so that's placed within the city at a retail operator.
- 14:10So it's even more absolutely how you can't afford to do business
- 14:14Illinois. You're just pushing them out of
- 14:15business. You know where they're pushing
- 14:16them back in the alleys. Absolutely.
- 14:18Back, back overseas, offshore, offshore.
- 14:21That's what I mean. The Cal she's and those crooks,
- 14:25that that thing that's scary. Yeah, it.
- 14:29Is when you're. Able to manipulate markets like
- 14:31they can. Well, people are taking the
- 14:32other side. Yeah, and people are apparently.
- 14:34It was a big. Thing on 60 minutes last night,
- 14:36but I don't think I would have watched.
- 14:37Yeah, but it was at the track and I couldn't have watched.
- 14:39But yeah, apparently there was a big thing on those markets last
- 14:42night on on 60 minutes, Game 7 tonight, NHL, Montreal and
- 14:47Buffalo. Puck drops at about hopefully
- 14:50just after 7, scheduled for 6:30.
- 14:52I'm hoping that's when the coverage starts, yeah. 7. 48
- 14:59because this dude will be in full flight.
- 15:00Frankly, we'll see where it goes, but I bunch a little.
- 15:06Game 6, did you? Yep, Buffalo really put it to
- 15:08him. Yeah, no, that big second period
- 15:128/3. Yeah.
- 15:14Well, it was, it was, yeah, it wasn't that it wasn't a blow out
- 15:16like that, but it kind of made it that way.
- 15:18I kind of felt like I was you this weekend trying to watch
- 15:20sports on my phone. It's different, isn't it?
- 15:22Freaking differently different. I mean, I get I I get the
- 15:26signal, OK. It says, Oh my God, trying.
- 15:28You need to get. Your magnifying glass with you.
- 15:31'Cause these bifocals, I don't know I'm I'm trying anyways, you
- 15:34got a feel. For tonight's game seven, no.
- 15:36I think I'd like the visiting team, which is Montreal.
- 15:39I think the pressure's on Buffalo, right?
- 15:41I kind of feel that way. They're there for the first time
- 15:44and forever. It's been a long time.
- 15:46Yeah, they got past the first round.
- 15:48Now it's been a. Long time since Montreal hung a
- 15:50banner but they got the history. I mean 949393.
- 15:54That's close. Yeah.
- 15:55Too bad. I'm going to give it to you.
- 15:56Yeah. Yeah.
- 15:57I'll give you half a point for that one.
- 15:58Need that? Did you watch much baseball over
- 16:01the over the weekend? And did the White Sox Cubs
- 16:03capture your attention like it certainly did in this building?
- 16:06It did not for me because we had a lot of softball over the
- 16:09weekend. It was a very busy one.
- 16:11We played. There was no.
- 16:12Rain outs were there or what we. Had a delay on Saturday just now
- 16:15where they pushed everything back to get the fields ready on
- 16:17Saturday morning. But now we got pushed back.
- 16:19We played, we my daughter played six games in 27 hours.
- 16:24Yeah, so 3 on Saturday, then three on Sunday, Yesterday as
- 16:27they made it to the championship only.
- 16:29To fall, but still got. Rings got their banner, so got
- 16:33to the championship. Really get rings.
- 16:34Yes, absolutely. At the event.
- 16:36Yes. Yeah, yeah.
- 16:37CIS Central Iowa Sports Yeah. Get some rings and get a banner
- 16:41that they all sign. And we put it up in our indoor
- 16:42complex. So it was a frustrating final
- 16:45game, but a that was a lot of softball.
- 16:47Yeah. That's you could see it on the
- 16:49young girls faces. I mean, they're 910 years old
- 16:51and you could see that's a lot. That's a lot.
- 16:53They slept well. Last night, yeah, Guessing.
- 16:56I wonder how Gary Dolphin slept this weekend.
- 16:58And where I'm going with this is, is he collateral damage on
- 17:02this whole story? Did Gary Dolphin know that it
- 17:04was about to hit the fan in the New York Post?
- 17:07Probably. Not probably not, right?
- 17:08I'm guessing the last thing Gary Dolphin needed, wanted, expected
- 17:13was to see his name splasher splashed all over the Internet
- 17:17on on Saturday morning. It just backs up my point and
- 17:19I'm right. I'm right.
- 17:21This could have been stopped now, potentially.
- 17:25I don't know if Gary Barta would have the sack to do it.
- 17:27Absolutely fair, right? Yes.
- 17:29But. If something would have been set
- 17:31and I heard more stories over the weekend from people that
- 17:34have brothers have family that worked at Carver walk by a
- 17:39narrow hallway and the men's basketball coach wouldn't even
- 17:43acknowledge a good good morning coach.
- 17:46Nothing wouldn't pick up his head wouldn't pick him.
- 17:48Now maybe you Steven thought no could yes, no, he wasn't he's a
- 17:53you know what, but it it didn't need to get this far.
- 17:57No, absolutely did not get to get this far.
- 17:58And when do? You have good leadership.
- 18:00It would not have gotten. It would not have.
- 18:01Got that far? It should have been stopped
- 18:03right after the event happened in the first place.
- 18:07Again, we're assuming Gary Barton would have done
- 18:10something, yes. But.
- 18:11I felt bad for Gary Dolphin. Man, I really and truly did a
- 18:15good. Soldier, a guy that cares
- 18:17nothing more than what is happening.
- 18:18He loves his gig, yes, as he should.
- 18:21He's a great gig, absolutely. Look, he's not.
- 18:24Doesn't seem like he's letting go anytime soon.
- 18:26It's a great gig. Beautiful pipes.
- 18:28Absolutely great voice. Loves the Hawkeyes.
- 18:31He is a guy that has become an institution.
- 18:33You think of the great calls throughout the years and
- 18:35everything that goes along with it.
- 18:36Well, the Drew. Tate I mean, yes, that's an old
- 18:38timer, Yeah. And.
- 18:40Clock's running, Drew. Tate doesn't realize that or
- 18:41something. I'm paraphrasing, but it's close
- 18:43He. And to be through that and just
- 18:46think of work environments, I mean, I think both of us have
- 18:48been in uncomfortable work environments in the past.
- 18:52And when you're going there every game and you're
- 18:55broadcasting a game and you know, the guy that is pacing up
- 18:58and down the floor next to you is like that.
- 19:01And that's what you're walking into from late October through
- 19:05March. I couldn't have been fun for no
- 19:07it. Couldn't it couldn't have been.
- 19:09Neither was this weekend I'm assuming.
- 19:11Alright, 1225 will take a time out.

- 19:39Miller and Condon underway on our Monday.
- 19:41David, I called next Bill Seals covering Iowa State.
- 19:44Meet the coaches caravan headed around the the state here.
- 19:48They're in Des Moines and Bill will join us in about 12:45 or
- 19:52so. It's the eye of sports radio
- 19:54network. I'm Miller Condon, 1225 Jlo
- 20:07almost 60. Hard to believe, isn't it?
- 20:10Swing it a miss. Let's get David Icolt in here as
- 20:15he covers Iowa 24/7 hawkeyeinsider.com Hello, David
- 20:20Icolt, how are you? Doing well guys.
- 20:23How are we doing today? Doing OK I.
- 20:25Guess we'll start with the piece you posted here this morning on
- 20:28the receiver room, etcetera, etcetera.
- 20:32Feels like it. And I know there's a lot of
- 20:33Hawkeye fans pretty excited about this group.
- 20:35It's been a long time since they've been able to say that,
- 20:38you know, at this time of year, right, that there's this isn't a
- 20:41wide receiver group that actually I think deserves
- 20:44Hawkeye fans enthusiasm behind them.
- 20:46Anxious to see how this plays out David, you and me.
- 20:50Both. And it's very interesting kind
- 20:52of looking at the room, right, because I think on paper there's
- 20:57a lot more stability than there has been recent years.
- 21:00I think there's a lot more, at least quality depth.
- 21:03I don't think anybody's going to buy stock until they see it on
- 21:05the field on Saturdays, and probably rightfully so.
- 21:08It's like, fool me once, you know, shame on, fool me twice,
- 21:11shame on me, fool me what, 9-9 years in a row where they
- 21:14probably need some big receiver plays?
- 21:17Everybody should be to blame. But it'll be really interesting
- 21:21because I think Reese Vanderzee and Tony Diaz can be a really
- 21:24solid 1-2. And then you have a bunch of
- 21:26wild cards and guys that we've heard behind the scenes have
- 21:29done a nice job, right? Like KJ Parker was great and the
- 21:32spring game we talked about him last year, he flashed behind the
- 21:35scenes kind of lacks that consistency when he had was on
- 21:38the field and it symbols catching the football right.
- 21:41I think at times he you catch it with his hands, but his whole
- 21:45body would be turned up field looking to make an explosive
- 21:48play. He would drop some routine
- 21:50routine passes them. But I'm very interested about
- 21:53this team. I think that there's a lot of
- 21:55things working in their favor. But, you know, at the same time,
- 21:58I'm also trying to sit back and evaluate why the receivers
- 22:02haven't been up to par with the Big 10.
- 22:05I'd say even power conference football, even Group of Five
- 22:08football over the last eight or nine years.
- 22:10I think there's a lot of factors.
- 22:11So trying to go through all these interesting little fact
- 22:15toys, it's been fun to kind of evaluate and give my opinion on
- 22:18it. The quarterback.
- 22:19Position I think became more muddled during the spring.
- 22:23David, I believe you were on the Hicklenski camp.
- 22:25I think almost everybody felt like they were definitely
- 22:27leading that direction coming out of camp.
- 22:30Now more almost a month removed from that last opportunity we
- 22:33had to see him. Is this thing going to go right
- 22:35up until game week, right in front of that Northern Illinois
- 22:38game before we're really going to find out what the decision
- 22:41is? A Kirk Ference and Company.
- 22:43Yeah, and anybody that says they know who's going to be starting
- 22:45quarterbacks lying to you, right, Go back to the tape.
- 22:49I've talked to a bunch of people behind the scenes.
- 22:51I know some people have looked at the highlights.
- 22:54I'll say a couple things. One, I do still think Hecklinski
- 22:57wins out, but I do think it's a lot closer of a battle than I
- 23:01thought because I actually thought Hank Brown played fairly
- 23:04well in the open spring practice.
- 23:07Three, guys, don't let the completion percentages fool you.
- 23:09I think a couple of things. One, his footwork looked world's
- 23:13better than it did last fall and last spring, and I think that's
- 23:16something that scares a lot of people, right When he gets
- 23:19pressured, the footwork breaks down, the mechanics breakdown.
- 23:22You can't go through all the routine sort of things.
- 23:24I thought Hank Brown's ball placement was actually pretty
- 23:28great. And I think the one surprising
- 23:29thing to me was how much Hank Brown was willing to throw the
- 23:33football downfield. I mean, you go back to even that
- 23:36week we talked to Tim Lester. He said, look, the the one thing
- 23:39I'm worried about Hank is he can go 17 for 20, but he has 17
- 23:43yards to his name, right? Like he'll make the decisions,
- 23:46but he'll he'll check down. He threw the ball downfield in
- 23:49that. So I think that's how it works.
- 23:51You can translate that over to end game.
- 23:53You feel pretty good about what he can bring to the table.
- 23:56But I just think Jeremy Heckwinski is a different sort
- 23:58of athlete. I think is quickness and ability
- 24:01to dodge oncoming defense and kind of outrun them.
- 24:04Keep his eyes downfield. When you know he does extend to
- 24:07play. It's going to be just really
- 24:10interesting. I again, I will not be surprised
- 24:12if we learned who the starter is when they put out the depth
- 24:15chart on game week. That's kind of expectation at
- 24:18this point speaking. Of expectations they're they're
- 24:21seemingly for the first time in a long time when I look at this
- 24:24roster, legitimate questions on both sides of the football.
- 24:27And then it even trickles into special teams, right, with both
- 24:30of the specialists, the kicker, punt punter and the kicker is,
- 24:35is it going to be harder maybe to get a pre season grasp?
- 24:39Not that your your feel is, you know, right every year, but at
- 24:43least you can back up your opinion, right?
- 24:46I'm not sure that when it comes to Hawkeye football this year
- 24:49that that's going to be the case because there are seemingly, at
- 24:51least to me, so many question marks.
- 24:55Yeah, and I'm right up there with you.
- 24:56And it's really funny because look, I love preseason rankings.
- 24:59I mean, it's part of the reason why we love the job, right?
- 25:01It's stupid, but we get to argue about it at least gives us stuff
- 25:04to talk about. I've been, I've been surprised
- 25:09that Iowa's ranked in the top 20 or 25 as often as they have now.
- 25:13I do believe they are top 2025 team.
- 25:16But where I'm going with that is if you look back over the past
- 25:18couple of years and those Iowa teams that were barely preseason
- 25:22ranked or not ranked, I think we knew more about those teams than
- 25:25we did this year. I mean, this is an Iowa team
- 25:28that has under 5000 career defensive starter snaps coming
- 25:31back this year. And that's the lowest in power
- 25:34for, right. But people are buying stock in a
- 25:36Phil Parker and it's weird to say.
- 25:38I think we know more about what to expect from the offense and
- 25:42we do the defense at this point. And special teams.
- 25:45I I do not envy, envy Chris Palisi because man, the
- 25:49expectations of that unit, what Kirk Ference has done, replacing
- 25:53all those things, I really don't think people should be taking
- 25:56that for granted because I do think it's going to be an up and
- 25:59down sort of thing. But I do think Iowa will have
- 26:02another returner. But I'm right there with you.
- 26:04I mean, I have legitimate questions about Iowa's defensive
- 26:07line, especially defensive tackle.
- 26:08We don't know who the starting quarterbacks going to be.
- 26:11I feel really good about the DJ Venami and I feel really good
- 26:15about the running back depth. They're going to go 4 deep
- 26:18again, I think there's stability of wide receivers.
- 26:20But the other part is how are these FCS and Group of Five
- 26:24transfers, especially on the defensive end, how are they
- 26:28going to integrate themselves and Phil Parker system and give
- 26:31them a chance to stand out? So again, this is great since
- 26:34we're being able to preview all these other things.
- 26:36But I'm right there with you. I've been I think there's a lot
- 26:40more meat on the bone, but comes to actually speculation about
- 26:43what this group could be. And you know, it's crazy as it
- 26:46sounds. I'm usually pre opinionated.
- 26:48I I don't think there's a lot of wrong opinions because we just
- 26:51don't simply don't know. Yeah, fair.
- 26:53It's it's very difficult with this group to dig your heels in.
- 26:56Not Iowa State difficult, right? That's a different level because
- 27:00you're talking about 80 new guys on the roster.
- 27:01But this is different than what we're used to, certainly with an
- 27:04Iowa football program and and the lack of seniors also on the
- 27:07Iowa side with what 10 scholarship seniors that are on
- 27:09this group, That's going to be completely different.
- 27:11I was hand in hand with recruiting.
- 27:14How big is this recruiting class going to be?
- 27:16We talked to Elliot last week. He mentioned that Sean thought
- 27:19it was going to be maybe upwards of 20 over there at
- 27:21hawkeyeinsider.com. That feels like a lot when he
- 27:23only got 10 and they got the transfer portal.
- 27:26After the season wraps up here, what are you hearing on the
- 27:28recruiting ranks? And this is going to be a big
- 27:30month coming up here the month of June.
- 27:32They have all the guys coming in for their official visits.
- 27:34Just take us a little inside Iowa Hawkeye football
- 27:37recruiting. I got to tell you guys, I mean,
- 27:39I'm right there with Sean, as crazy as it sounds, but you also
- 27:42have to think about this. Do you know how many dudes are
- 27:45on this year's Iowa team that they probably should not count
- 27:47on coming back next season, right?
- 27:50Because I mean, I look at Trevor Lau.
- 27:52I think Trevor Laux can be a top two round NFL draft pick, a left
- 27:55tackle, right? Kate Peeper could have left this
- 27:57past year and then arguably a first round pick.
- 28:00You look at Zach Lutmer, who people, you know, obviously
- 28:03Cooper De Jeans had a lot of success with the Eagles.
- 28:06Zach Luttmer, I don't think it's crazy to believe he could be a
- 28:09top two round draft pick if he has a great senior year.
- 28:11So while while the senior number is dauntingly low, I also think
- 28:15you look just the overall talent that look, Iowa will only have a
- 28:19certain amount of NIL dollars. Will they want to attack the
- 28:22portal again? Will they want to, you know,
- 28:23give give Zach Luttmer off an offer you couldn't refuse or
- 28:27Kate Peeper or Trevor Loud. I mean, you know, another guy
- 28:30who nobody's really talking about DJ Venom is going to be
- 28:33eligible for the NFL. And, you know, he grew up
- 28:37wanting to be a Hawkeye. We know what he could say.
- 28:39I'll tell you, like, I don't want to put too many
- 28:41expectations on, but I don't think it's crazy to believe that
- 28:44he could have one of the best tight end seasons in Iowa
- 28:46history. He he simply has that kind of
- 28:49upside man, Like his blockings dramatically improved.
- 28:52He can get the ball down field, he's run after the catcher,
- 28:55spectacular. He's powerful, takes care of the
- 28:57ball. There's really not a lot of
- 28:58flaws in his game. So again, I would probably
- 29:02expect it to be around 20. And then, you know, the other
- 29:04part is Iowa goes 4 deep at running back.
- 29:07All those guys have multiple years of eligibility.
- 29:09Again, I hate speculating this, but there's only so many carries
- 29:13and there's a lot of talent in that room.
- 29:15So I think you have to basically say 20.
- 29:18And then if Iowa has to, you know, advocate, gracer or give
- 29:21them enough NIL money to make we're walking makes it worth it.
- 29:25I think that's what they have to go.
- 29:26But I don't envy Tyler Barnes's job as general manager and
- 29:30trying to manage everything that goes on in college athletics
- 29:32because it is a mess might be an understatement to say the least.
- 29:36No, no question about it. So the last couple of years
- 29:39we've when it comes to running backs, there's been one that's
- 29:42kind of not snuck up, but certainly what maybe didn't get
- 29:45the, the conversation, the the buzz around him, the hype,
- 29:50that's that he that would ultimately fall his way based on
- 29:54his performance. Who do you think that guy is
- 29:57this year? Who's going to overachieve?
- 30:00Man, that's a good question. You know, I don't want to say
- 30:04overachieve, but here's why. I'm going to name the obvious
- 30:06one, because his numbers should have been better last year.
- 30:11Kamari Moulton. Yeah, this is a guy who had 878
- 30:16yards, 5 yards of carry. He only had five touchdowns and
- 30:19he never broke 100 yards in the game.
- 30:22Look, LJ Phillips is going to be a big part of the equation as
- 30:25well. The South Dakota transfer,
- 30:26nearly 2000 rushing yards last year.
- 30:28There's no question. I think Nathan Mcneil's going to
- 30:31be tough to keep off the field. And then Xavier Williams also
- 30:34popped out, right? So Jay Norvell has adopted a
- 30:37very, very good group of the running back.
- 30:39So again, it's the obvious one. But you talk about guy who I
- 30:42feel like spent on the cusp of breaking out, a guy that could
- 30:45consistently give you 8 to 10 yards.
- 30:47How many times it was his shoe string tackle by his shoe
- 30:50strings last year, right? I think added strength in the
- 30:54lower half is going to really help him.
- 30:56I wouldn't be surprised if he's going to.
- 30:57I think he's going to break the 1000 yard mark, if not more than
- 31:00that. I think he's going to have 10
- 31:02touchdowns this year. Like Moulton's been a guy that I
- 31:04feel like just been behind the scenes doing all the right
- 31:07things, doing whatever's been asked of him.
- 31:09Because again, Mark Gronowski was great in a bunch of ways,
- 31:12but guys weren't where his touchdowns sounds a little bit
- 31:14inflated because it felt like Moulton would get them within
- 31:17the three or 4 yard line and then Martin Granowski would take
- 31:20it in. Again, legitimate strategy.
- 31:22I think Moulton has all the capabilities of being a top five
- 31:25rank back in the Big 10 conference.
- 31:26I I think he can be that good. I want to jump over to some
- 31:30basketball recruiting going on. There's a lot of stories about
- 31:32that up at hawkeyeinsider.com. But David, before we get to the
- 31:36men's side, on the women's side, they got a couple of portal
- 31:38editions last week. You cover the women's side of
- 31:40things at Hawkeye Insider. What can you tell us about those
- 31:43editions? Are they just depth pieces or is
- 31:47there a real chance that maybe one of the two could help them
- 31:49out in a not a huge way, but help in some capacity on the
- 31:53floor of this season? It's funny trying because I do
- 31:56think they are ultimately depth pieces, but when you only have
- 31:5911 players on the roster, I'm pretty sure everybody should
- 32:02have a shot at playing, right. So it does sound like that they
- 32:06are going to stick with 11 players on this year's roster.
- 32:08I mean, that puts a lot of pressure on the 27 recruiting
- 32:11class and that portal, obviously.
- 32:13But I also think you look at Iowa's backcourt like it's tough
- 32:16to sell a power 5 caliber guard that they can come into Iowa
- 32:20system make a difference because look, Danny Carnegie and
- 32:24chitchat, right? They're both to be playing 30
- 32:26plus minutes. Then you go down the D3 level, I
- 32:28think, I think Bria Mandina Medina, I think it's a really
- 32:31great addition. 23 points a game last year, the D3 level 5 foot
- 32:356. Not really an outside shooter.
- 32:38Only made 21 of them last season, only attempted 59.
- 32:41But she can get to the hoop. Crafty mid range jumper, 87%
- 32:45from the free throw line. And it's somebody that comes in
- 32:47without an ego, right? Like I've talked to people
- 32:49behind the scenes. She didn't ask for any guarantee
- 32:52of playing time, didn't ask for any money.
- 32:53This is somebody who nearly decided not to play basketball
- 32:56in college at all. She's just grateful for the
- 32:58experience. Her average attendance last
- 33:01year, Trenton Ken was 87 people in game.
- 33:06It's going to be quite different when there's 15,000 people in
- 33:09Carver Hawkeye. So I think that's a really nice
- 33:11piece. And then Lasondra Bear has been
- 33:14adamant about trying to get over and you know, have some
- 33:17international prospects. So for IO to go get another four
- 33:19year player and Ella Stromdale from Sweden, potential stretch
- 33:24for players in a really high level and you know, over in
- 33:27Sweden, I think she's a nice addition.
- 33:30I would not anticipate her making an immediate impact, but
- 33:33be able to sprout the scholarships and at least
- 33:36showcase. I said she could be a potential
- 33:376 foot one, maybe a small lineup stretch four with Iowa going
- 33:42back to that 4 hour offense. I think it's at least a solid
- 33:45pick up for sure. Finally on.
- 33:46The men's side, there's been a lot of talk about Kaden Doherty,
- 33:50a top 20 player in the country, Iowa amongst the finalists for
- 33:53him, a tremendous point guard. But they also offered another
- 33:56point guard in the class of 2027 this week with Tyrone Jamieson.
- 34:01Does that make you concerned about Doherty or hey, we're just
- 34:04going to be fishing in a lot of different waters here?
- 34:06What can you tell us about point guard recruiting?
- 34:09You know, I think Iowa's become still accustomed to finishing
- 34:12like, you know, like being the best man, like it's always
- 34:14surprised me. Never the bride, right?
- 34:16If Iowa doesn't land the top 20 prospects, but they lay in the
- 34:19top 50 or 60, nobody's going to be complaining, right?
- 34:24But Schaumbach was in Memphis. You got to see them all first
- 34:26hand. I wouldn't be of any concern
- 34:28because you know what the problem is if you know, if he
- 34:30ends, if Kane Daughtry end up going to Michigan and I will
- 34:34finish second that recruiting. What's everybody saying?
- 34:37Well, they shouldn't have put all their eggs in one basket
- 34:39right now. Now they're playing from behind.
- 34:41So I think this is smart and McCollum and company, I think
- 34:43they've made it abundantly clear that, you know, Kane's the top
- 34:47prospect that they want. And I think after watching him
- 34:50this weekend, guys dropped 37 and five on 15 to 23 shooting,
- 34:55you can see why Ben Mccollum's really going all in on him.
- 34:58But I think Iowa recruiting from an overall standpoint, I think
- 35:02there's a buzz on the national scene like there hasn't been in
- 35:05several years. But I'll tell you what exactly
- 35:07what an Elite Eight run does, Absolutely.
- 35:10You hit the magic words right there.
- 35:11Good stuff David. I cold appreciate the input as
- 35:14always. We'll talk to you down the road.
- 35:16hawkeyeinsider.com. Thank you, David.
- 35:19Appreciate you guys. Take care.
- 35:20Yeah, good to talk to. You, David, I called as we check
- 35:23in on Iowa. All right, we'll do the same.
- 35:25Bill Seals, hopefully the meet the coaches opportunity.
- 35:29The bill was taking place with his wrapping up.
- 35:31We'll join. He'll join us when we come back.
- 35:33On the other side, it's the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 35:461245 Miller and Cond in Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 35:49One O clock hour. Matt Snyder kicks it off.
- 35:52CBSSports.com covers Major League Baseball.
- 35:55Look forward to that weekly conversation.
- 35:57Matt Rudy will put a bow on the second major of the year, the
- 36:01PGA. Yeah, it's brutal.
- 36:04Let's talk to Bill Seals. He's covering the meet the
- 36:06coaches opportunity. The caravan is making its way
- 36:09across the state of Iowa. Bill, how are you?
- 36:12Trenton, Ken, good to speak with you.
- 36:13Is it all wrapped up, Bill? Yeah, all wrapped up and
- 36:27excellent. Stuff.
- 36:28We're going to call you right back to understood where it
- 36:30stands, understand words. You said that does that on my
- 36:33DIRECTV feed every now and then you have to, I don't know, stop
- 36:36it and start it again. So we'll get to we'll reconnect
- 36:38here with Bill Seals. That was that was tough.
- 36:41We apologize for that. But cell phones seemingly not
- 36:45much better in some spots than they were when they first came
- 36:48out. Yeah.
- 36:49I look forward to catching up with Bill.
- 36:50I wonder if you could pull cyclone fans every age
- 36:55demographic, men, women at the bussy site, a Bill site, a
- 36:59Chris's site. What's the one question that
- 37:02they have more than others? Let's get Bill back in here.
- 37:05Bill that was unlistable. I apologize if he's you or us,
- 37:08but we never could make we couldn't understand a word you
- 37:11said. So if you would just restart
- 37:14your answer please. Yeah, no, it was a it was a
- 37:18good, good 45 minutes or so. We got Jimmy Rogers, PJ Ossel,
- 37:23Burger Bill friendly for a little bit, Jamie Pollard.
- 37:26So information overload and it's time to go put it all together
- 37:31at cyclonereport.com. So good stuff, good stuff.
- 37:34You know, I when we were reconnecting with you, I know
- 37:37this is impossible to do, but I would love to know, you know, if
- 37:41you could ask Cyclone fans only one question, what the one
- 37:44question that they have with regardless of sport, regardless
- 37:48of what anything else, one question that you would like
- 37:51Iowa State to answer. What do you think that would be?
- 37:53Would it be a football question? A basketball, men or women's
- 37:56question? Side count, perhaps?
- 37:58What do you think it would be, Bill?
- 38:00What? What do Cyclone fans want
- 38:01answered more than anything else?
- 38:06Oh, gosh, you know, I, I could go across each sport.
- 38:11I mean, only get 1 Rogers, obviously.
- 38:13Oh, I only get one. OK, you know, gosh, I, I
- 38:18actually think, you know, women's basketball with all the
- 38:21transfers and the household names moving on and, and the
- 38:26influx of transfers coming in, you know, the contract
- 38:31situation. I I think that he's gonna be a,
- 38:34a pretty, he's going to be pretty highly sought after I
- 38:38think this week. So I think that they're going to
- 38:40ask him, you know, just how his last month has gone.
- 38:44And I, you know, I as far as the other sports, yeah, there,
- 38:47there's going to be a lot of interest there.
- 38:49But it seems like, you know, Jimmy Rogers has made the rounds
- 38:52for several months now and everybody's kind of got to know
- 38:55him. But this friendly stuff and the
- 38:57women's basketball, the roster turnover, I think there's going
- 39:00to be that that's going to be a pretty big one this week.
- 39:05So we talked about it what a couple weeks ago with the ICLUB
- 39:08circuit much different than it once was.
- 39:10What is the Cyclone tailgate tour here in 2026?
- 39:14It's much shorter. It's not a whole evening most of
- 39:16the time. There's a couple of those
- 39:18overall. But as you've gone to these
- 39:19these things for years, Bill, how's it changed?
- 39:23Well, it's, it's changed a lot. I've granted, I've been doing
- 39:28this a long time and it used to be setting up shop and, and you
- 39:33know, promoting a newspaper at a golf, a golf outing.
- 39:37And there'd be, you know, a banquet afterwards.
- 39:40And it just all, all the, you know, all the all small towns or
- 39:43counties had their, their cyclone clubs and, and they'd
- 39:47have outings. And it's the golf was
- 39:49beforehand. Then you'd talk to the coaches,
- 39:51administrators afterwards. And it's a lot different now.
- 39:54There's not the, the golf aspect.
- 39:57It's it's in the over the course of one week.
- 40:01And that's even changed in the last few years.
- 40:03That used to be broken up over 2 weeks.
- 40:05They'd go three days across two weeks.
- 40:08Now that's changed. And I, you know, I think Des
- 40:11Moines, you know, they maybe missed the boat a little bit.
- 40:13I think today it, they had a great crowd in there and it was
- 40:17for a show that was going to be from noon to 1.
- 40:20And then they're on their way to eastern Iowa.
- 40:22But do you imagine if they'd have had this thing at Hyvee
- 40:26Hall or back at the Reflex? They would have needed a
- 40:28facility four times the size because there was a huge crowd
- 40:32in there when I took off. Interesting.
- 40:35Just the fan base seemingly not warming up.
- 40:39I mean, they're they're going to do as they're told.
- 40:40They always have. But are they all on board with
- 40:43the new regime of Cyclone football?
- 40:45Are they, what's the enthusiasm? I guess meter from one to 10
- 40:50when it comes to football, Bill. Well, I think that that it's
- 40:55it's probably in the 7 to 8 range.
- 40:59Maybe that increases a little bit this week that Jimmy Rogers
- 41:03going to is going to get some FaceTime around a ton of cyclone
- 41:06fans around the state. You know, I, I think, you know,
- 41:09outside sources have the expectation level pretty low for
- 41:13this team, But I, I think the excitement level is high though,
- 41:17just because of, you know, they're seeing what the coaching
- 41:21staff brought in and transfers and kind of what the short term
- 41:24outlook looks like. And they're also recruiting
- 41:27pretty well, I think here early on as well.
- 41:30So they're kind of seeing, you know, the fruits of this staff's
- 41:33labor and, and how that could look over a longer term.
- 41:37So you had something interesting or buddy Mark Hanrahan was on
- 41:41the bump as Iowa baseball. Iowa State baseball 25 years ago
- 41:44played in their final game. Certainly a sad one for so many
- 41:48Cyclone fans. Baseball being what it is,
- 41:51certainly in inside of our world.
- 41:53Bill, take us back to the memories and we see women's
- 41:56wrestling is going to be added. The question comes up often.
- 41:59Usually the answer is a pretty quick No baseball ever returning
- 42:02to Iowa State, but a lot of memories but a lot of
- 42:06frustration over this latter last quarter century when you
- 42:09see how good Big 12 baseball is. Yeah, it really is.
- 42:14And there's a lot of pretty much now the way you can watch any
- 42:18Big 12 team on TV anytime you want with like ESPN Plus or
- 42:23unlimited or what you know what, what have you now?
- 42:27And it just seems like, yeah, it's it's would be a great
- 42:31opportunity, but I just I don't foresee it it happening.
- 42:34It seems like cutting is the way now at at, you know, this level
- 42:41just because you're paying players now and and you know,
- 42:44Idol 9 is going to limit what you could ever add probably in a
- 42:48men's sport where you've got X amount of scholarships.
- 42:51But you know, my memory of that last game is I think I I
- 42:54actually was coming back from Ames and that might have been
- 42:57like a spring, maybe like a spring football type of thing or
- 43:01whatever. And listening to that game on
- 43:03the radio, really. And and Iowa State winning that
- 43:06game. Yeah, I think they had it on
- 43:07Kasi had all the home games and in Ames 141430 back then had all
- 43:13the Iowa State that baseball games and I can remember
- 43:16listening to that one. Yeah.
- 43:17And it was just, and I think they came back and maybe even
- 43:21like walked it off or they had come back from behind and held
- 43:25on for the win. One of those two.
- 43:27But yeah, I mean, it was a, it was a definitely a memorable
- 43:31last win for the the baseball program.
- 43:33Good stuff. Bill Seal cyclonereport.com Part
- 43:36of the rival slash on Three Network.
- 43:38Bill, is this your only stop on the tailgate tour?
- 43:42Will you catch up a couple more times?
- 43:45I think I got everything I needed today, guys that it, it
- 43:50was pretty wide, wide-ranging stuff from all of the coaches
- 43:54and the AD. So, you know, lots of good stuff
- 43:58come out of that. I, you know, I was going to tell
- 44:00you too, Kenny, you're always asking me about River Peppers.
- 44:03Yes. And we got a River Pepper.
- 44:04We got a River Peppers update today from Jimmy Rogers and
- 44:09they're expecting him to be back in less than a year from when
- 44:13that injury happened. So it sounds like he could maybe
- 44:17impact this team ahead of Big 12 play.
- 44:21So I think that changes the outlook a lot at at running back
- 44:25there. They've got a kid on campus, A2
- 44:27lane transfer start the day. So no good news on the River
- 44:31Peppers. Yeah, that would make.
- 44:34Your day? Absolutely.
- 44:35He's. Got a great name, Bill Seals
- 44:36cycleandreport.com. You do a great job, Bill.
- 44:38Thanks for doing this, buddy. We'll talk to you.
- 44:40Well, we're all off on Monday, so we'll grab you early next
- 44:43week. Thanks, Bill Seals.
- 44:44Appreciate it. Yep, looking forward to the
- 44:46guys. Have a good one.
- 44:47Yep, good to talk. To you.
- 44:48Good to talk to you. You know what is.
- 44:50So I'm off the next couple days. Can we have Mark Hanrahan on
- 44:52Thursday? Yeah.
- 44:53Absolutely see it it. So I'm trying to think back to
- 44:57being on the air back in that time.
- 44:59It wasn't the major story that it would have been today, I
- 45:03don't think. And maybe that's just I'm at
- 45:06fault, maybe that I don't know why it wasn't a bigger story.
- 45:12I mean, certainly we discussed it, but it didn't get the, I
- 45:17don't think the the coverage the following the maybe that it
- 45:19should have. My great uncle was on one of the
- 45:22College World Series teams. Was he 1957?
- 45:25Yes, Mark. Hanrahan, if you're listening,
- 45:27I'm going to text you and line this up for Thursday.
- 45:30Good stuff. Hour 2 coming up next, Matt
- 45:32Snyder joins the program Little baseball conversation.
- 45:36Matt Rudy as well Miller and Condon on the Iowa Sports Radio
- 45:39Network.
