- 0:15Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to episode fifty five of Cards
- 0:19Speaker 1: and Categories. I am Mike Coolard from Rasball, joined as
- 0:22Speaker 1: always by my very good friend Jeremy Brewer, also from
- 0:25Speaker 1: ras Ball. How are you doing tonight, buddy?
- 0:28Speaker 2: Oh I'm an adventure tonight. Let me tell you. I
- 0:32Speaker 2: was late to recording our podcast tonight because my son
- 0:34Speaker 2: kind of chicken in our neighborhood.
- 0:36Speaker 1: So yeah, that's fun, you weren't. I mean, it's all right.
- 0:42Speaker 1: I'm coming into this podcast a little bit hot. I
- 0:44Speaker 1: can't see after the matchup of the lou Jerseys versus
- 0:47Speaker 1: those Tampa Bay Devil raised jerseys that we were watching
- 0:51Speaker 1: on the Ray's Cardinals game before this, that it's quite
- 0:55Speaker 1: the sight when you see both of those city connects
- 0:57Speaker 1: go up against each other. But I don't know if
- 0:59Speaker 1: that can top of chicken.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Yeah again, I don't think you can top of chicken. Luckily,
- 1:03Speaker 2: I think we got rid of it, so a local farmer.
- 1:07Speaker 2: But hey, if anybody needs chicken, I have apparently have
- 1:09Speaker 2: a chicken farmer in my house, and I can provide
- 1:12Speaker 2: that that has nothing to do with our fantasy content
- 1:14Speaker 2: or card collecting content. But I just if my analysis
- 1:18Speaker 2: is a little off tonight. That's probably why, has nothing
- 1:22Speaker 2: to do with lack of sleep or pure inability of
- 1:26Speaker 2: any sort. So I mean, I'm literally ready.
- 1:30Speaker 1: There's been a lot of stuff going on, so we'll
- 1:31Speaker 1: get into that here pretty soon, but first we'll preview
- 1:35Speaker 1: what we're going to talk about for the main segment.
- 1:37Speaker 1: And it is the first podcast of August, so you
- 1:40Speaker 1: know what that means out there, listeners. It is Player
- 1:43Speaker 1: of the Month PC time, and it is for July.
- 1:45Speaker 1: We did not have to dip into the reliever pool
- 1:48Speaker 1: this time because we had enough bats and arms that
- 1:51Speaker 1: were new come through, and wow, we had some new
- 1:53Speaker 1: ones here in July. So we'll get into that for
- 1:55Speaker 1: the second half of our show after we get through
- 1:58Speaker 1: our news notes updates that are affecting all the fantasy
- 2:02Speaker 1: games out there. And you know what, last week, we
- 2:06Speaker 1: laid down the injury curse pretty hard. So I think
- 2:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna open this a little lighter as we get
- 2:11Speaker 1: into some promotions and other transactions that have happened since
- 2:15Speaker 1: we talked last week. And this is especially the time
- 2:17Speaker 1: when we start to see some of those call ups
- 2:20Speaker 1: happen from the minor leagues again, kind of like another
- 2:22Speaker 1: wave after that Super two period just about two months ago.
- 2:26Speaker 1: You know at the beginning of June that after the
- 2:28Speaker 1: trade deadline, teams are shuffling around rosters so that they
- 2:32Speaker 1: can try to bring up some of those new prospects
- 2:34Speaker 1: and get them major league time here again before we
- 2:38Speaker 1: get into September, although that's not significant without the forty
- 2:42Speaker 1: man rosters. But let's get into some of those transactions
- 2:45Speaker 1: as the first one we've got is a pretty significant one,
- 2:47Speaker 1: as the Baltimore Orioles have called up Kobe Mayo in
- 2:51Speaker 1: place of Jordan Westberg hitting the injured list. So Kobe
- 2:55Speaker 1: Mayo has been playing I believe third base for the
- 3:01Speaker 1: Orioles so far, and that is correct. He's got four
- 3:04Speaker 1: games at third and then that's all of them. So
- 3:08Speaker 1: in those four games he has put up fourteen played
- 3:11Speaker 1: appearances as we're speaking here on the evening of August seventh,
- 3:15Speaker 1: and he is so far hitless with eight strikeouts. It's
- 3:19Speaker 1: a fifty seven point one percent k rate. It does
- 3:22Speaker 1: look like he's pressing a lot the way Jackson Holliday
- 3:25Speaker 1: when he first came up did, because Mayo was on
- 3:28Speaker 1: fire and triple A. He was slashing three oh one,
- 3:30Speaker 1: three seventy five Friday eighty six with twenty homers. That
- 3:34Speaker 1: was good for a one forty two WRC plus. So Brew,
- 3:38Speaker 1: what how aggressive you being with Mayo given, you know,
- 3:42Speaker 1: if you are in a league where maybe there's still
- 3:44Speaker 1: a fab opportunity. I actually had this in GGFB high
- 3:47Speaker 1: this past weekend because he was hanging out there and
- 3:50Speaker 1: I blew most of the budget I had remaining to
- 3:52Speaker 1: be able to bring in Mayo. But if you've already
- 3:55Speaker 1: seen these fourteen played appearances with the eight strikeouts, are
- 3:59Speaker 1: you worried?
- 3:59Speaker 2: Are you you?
- 4:00Speaker 1: Are you thinking he might have to go back down
- 4:02Speaker 1: like Jackson Holliday? Or do you think he's going to
- 4:04Speaker 1: be allowed to work through it at the major league level?
- 4:07Speaker 2: Yeah? I mean I think I think he's you know,
- 4:09Speaker 2: they call him at this point, they're they're pretty confident
- 4:11Speaker 2: and they're gonna try to let him work through. Like
- 4:13Speaker 2: there was I don't know any question in my mind
- 4:15Speaker 2: that they were waiting for a spot to make sure
- 4:18Speaker 2: Mayo was going to play. This wasn't a hessen kearstab
- 4:21Speaker 2: perspective here. We're like, ah, we'll plug and play. He's
- 4:23Speaker 2: he's ready for the majors, but we don't want to
- 4:25Speaker 2: you know, we're not worried about stunting as growth. Let's
- 4:27Speaker 2: a whole different discussions. But I disagree with that. But
- 4:31Speaker 2: you know, I think they were waiting for Mayo to
- 4:34Speaker 2: fully have a spot and be ready to contribute. And
- 4:37Speaker 2: with all the moves they made, they open spots up
- 4:39Speaker 2: the West forgot hurt. So I think Mayo's here to stay.
- 4:42Speaker 2: And you know, you know, I'm treating him as probably
- 4:46Speaker 2: a back quarter of the top one hundred hitters at
- 4:50Speaker 2: this point in time. Maybe I'm maybe trying to sneak
- 4:54Speaker 2: into that that third quarter there. And so if you're
- 4:59Speaker 2: if you're looking at him end of the season, I
- 5:01Speaker 2: hear we're talking about a guy that's really really delivered
- 5:05Speaker 2: throughout the miners this year. You know, hit twenty homers
- 5:10Speaker 2: three to one average. You know, he driving runs, has
- 5:14Speaker 2: the RBIs, and he definitely has the profile that seems
- 5:17Speaker 2: like he's gonna play pretty patient of the plate, really
- 5:20Speaker 2: cut down the strikeouts and kept those in a reasonable range.
- 5:25Speaker 2: So I think I think BeO is here to stay
- 5:27Speaker 2: and he's gonna be a mainstay for us. So yeah,
- 5:31Speaker 2: he might just stumble a little bit here and there.
- 5:33Speaker 2: But I'm I'm I'm all in on Mayo.
- 5:36Speaker 1: I be and my TGFBI squad like to hear that
- 5:39Speaker 1: because it is sorely needed given that we've been carrying
- 5:43Speaker 1: Paul Goldschman at the corner infield all season that if
- 5:46Speaker 1: we can get some good production now of Kobe Mayo
- 5:49Speaker 1: down the stretch, it would be greatly appreciated. So let's
- 5:52Speaker 1: get into another debut another corner guy here, and that
- 5:56Speaker 1: is Zach Decenso for the Houston Astros. As he's coming up.
- 6:00Speaker 1: He's been playing some first base down in Triple A
- 6:03Speaker 1: as they've been trying to really find a solution that
- 6:07Speaker 1: works instead of John Singleton, as the Astros are still
- 6:12Speaker 1: reeling to replace jose A Brayu. I mean they dealt
- 6:15Speaker 1: out Joey lo Berfito. I was actually surprised that they
- 6:18Speaker 1: weren't in on the Josh Bell sweepstakes, but maybe Arizona
- 6:21Speaker 1: outbid them when they had Christian Walker go down. But
- 6:24Speaker 1: Dessenso's risen through the minor leagues extremely fast. He was
- 6:28Speaker 1: drafted just in twenty twenty two out of Ohio State,
- 6:33Speaker 1: and so he was actually a really late pick in
- 6:36Speaker 1: that draft too in the twelfth round, as he was
- 6:39Speaker 1: almost like a Mark Reynolds sort of like build or
- 6:42Speaker 1: like a right handed Joey Gallo where it's just all power. Really,
- 6:47Speaker 1: you're not sure, especially coming out the college level, how
- 6:50Speaker 1: that bat is going to translate to wood from metal
- 6:54Speaker 1: and then lots of strikeouts. But he battled some injuries
- 6:59Speaker 1: earlier in the season and has flown through the minor
- 7:01Speaker 1: league system as the Astros have had lots of belief
- 7:04Speaker 1: in him. He hit six homers across three stops coming
- 7:08Speaker 1: back on in his rehab over thirty eight games, and
- 7:12Speaker 1: eleven of those came at TRIPLEA, where he hit three
- 7:14Speaker 1: ninety one, four seventy two, seven thirty nine with four
- 7:18Speaker 1: homers over eleven games. That is just absurd that he's
- 7:22Speaker 1: already picked up his major first major league hit, so
- 7:25Speaker 1: beat Kobe Mayo to that, as he got a single
- 7:28Speaker 1: in a double in a afternoon game today. This is
- 7:33Speaker 1: one where I had always been aware of Desenso over
- 7:36Speaker 1: the past couple of years, just in terms of like
- 7:39Speaker 1: this really homer forward profile. I just didn't think the
- 7:44Speaker 1: Astros would move him through the system as quick as
- 7:47Speaker 1: there have been murmurings how much. They've loved him, and
- 7:50Speaker 1: lots of just the kind of ford or the public
- 7:54Speaker 1: facing data has been solid, like the overall prospect ratings.
- 8:00Speaker 1: He's got forty plus on fangrafts from Eric log Logginghanngen,
- 8:04Speaker 1: and that puts a seventy on his raw power. So
- 8:06Speaker 1: Desenso is certainly a huge power source here, and I'm
- 8:11Speaker 1: just seeing what sort of leagues are you maybe taking
- 8:14Speaker 1: a gamble on him and trying to add him because
- 8:17Speaker 1: he has a pretty clear path to playing time in Houston.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I'm probably approaching the Sinzo with a
- 8:24Speaker 2: little bit of trepidation here. I'm you know, it's I
- 8:28Speaker 2: look at both ways like he's really been rushed through,
- 8:31Speaker 2: not from an age perspective because he is twenty four,
- 8:37Speaker 2: but at the same time, like he doesn't have that
- 8:41Speaker 2: many games under his belt in the minors, and he
- 8:45Speaker 2: went all the way from you know, basically double A
- 8:49Speaker 2: with twenty two games this year eleven a triple A
- 8:51Speaker 2: and here he is, and the results the last two
- 8:55Speaker 2: years have been kind of a little bit jumping over
- 8:57Speaker 2: to place there. The power is it's hard to tell
- 9:00Speaker 2: if it's there. There's just enough sample size, but yet
- 9:03Speaker 2: the Astros who tend to like not believe in any
- 9:05Speaker 2: of their minor leaguers believe in them, and so I'm
- 9:09Speaker 2: very torn with that. And so I'm I'm probably sitting
- 9:12Speaker 2: on the sidelines here watching just to see how he plays,
- 9:15Speaker 2: because I do feel like he didn't get as much
- 9:18Speaker 2: season as I would like to see, and he does
- 9:20Speaker 2: have a pretty extreme flyball approach, and so I think
- 9:25Speaker 2: that it's it could be a little feast or famine
- 9:27Speaker 2: here with Descenzo. So I'm gonna let things play. I
- 9:31Speaker 2: think he might have a little bit rougher of a
- 9:33Speaker 2: go than somebody like a Mayo, who's definitely more rounded,
- 9:36Speaker 2: got some more games under his belt. Again, we're talking
- 9:39Speaker 2: about a guy that's got a total of eleven games
- 9:42Speaker 2: at Triple A and total of eighty five at Double
- 9:46Speaker 2: A the last sea last two seasons, so less than
- 9:51Speaker 2: one hundred games above a ball. Yeah, I'd like to
- 9:55Speaker 2: see a little bit more.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think if he's coming cheap in
- 9:59Speaker 1: Dynasty and you can easily acquire him, I'm certainly buying
- 10:05Speaker 1: up those lottery ticket shares just because, like, if he
- 10:07Speaker 1: is the answer to first base in Houston, and even
- 10:10Speaker 1: if he bats like eighth or ninth and can just
- 10:13Speaker 1: stick and you know, hit maybe like two twenty two
- 10:16Speaker 1: thirty with really good power. I mean, I think that's
- 10:20Speaker 1: really huge considering how young he is and given the
- 10:23Speaker 1: raw power in that bat. I will take a gamble
- 10:26Speaker 1: on that. And I'm really leaning a lot on what
- 10:29Speaker 1: you said in terms of, like, I don't Houston really
- 10:32Speaker 1: loves him. I don't know what it is in the
- 10:33Speaker 1: profile that really stands out to them and makes them
- 10:38Speaker 1: really salivate over what he can do. But they've clearly
- 10:41Speaker 1: been into Descenzo for since then. He was drafted in
- 10:45Speaker 1: twenty twenty two and moved him through the system. It
- 10:47Speaker 1: looks like he was somebody that they just kind of
- 10:50Speaker 1: plucked out a thin air, even though he did play
- 10:53Speaker 1: in the Big Ten for college. It's just I don't
- 10:56Speaker 1: it'd be interesting to get into some of these rooms
- 10:58Speaker 1: we talked about, like last week with the trade deadline,
- 11:01Speaker 1: just to see exactly what they have on Dessenzo, because honestly,
- 11:05Speaker 1: it's starting to get me a little bit excited. So
- 11:08Speaker 1: if you are in dynasty leagues out there where he
- 11:10Speaker 1: might still be easy to acquire or not owned, I'm
- 11:14Speaker 1: certainly taking a flyer. Okay, we've got another call up,
- 11:19Speaker 1: and this one is somebody who we've been raving about
- 11:22Speaker 1: all summer as he arrives in Arizona in place of
- 11:25Speaker 1: Gabriel Moreno hitting the aisle with a groin injury, and
- 11:29Speaker 1: that is Aging Delcastillo. He is getting called up in
- 11:32Speaker 1: Arizona after slashing three nineteen four h three six oh eight.
- 11:36Speaker 1: That's good for one forty four WRC plus with twenty
- 11:40Speaker 1: four homers and one hundred games at Triple A. That
- 11:43Speaker 1: is a little bit PCL eighted, but still the one
- 11:46Speaker 1: forty four WRC plus. Lets you know how superb of
- 11:49Speaker 1: a hitter del Castillo has been this year. Comes with
- 11:53Speaker 1: catcher eligibility, probably play some mix of catcher DH and
- 11:58Speaker 1: honestly maybe even a little first base with Christian Walker
- 12:01Speaker 1: being out. But Josh Bella is now around in Arizona.
- 12:04Speaker 1: So what are you doing here at del Castillo because
- 12:07Speaker 1: you've got two weeks with him, and what depth of
- 12:10Speaker 1: league do you think you're going to add him in,
- 12:12Speaker 1: especially given you know the need for a catcher out
- 12:15Speaker 1: there in the in the fantasy landscape.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Yeah, any any two catcher league, I am absolutely picking
- 12:21Speaker 2: up del Castillo on them for sure. In a dynasty
- 12:25Speaker 2: type league, if he's still sitting out there, I'm definitely
- 12:27Speaker 2: taking a gamble on him. And then if you're sitting
- 12:31Speaker 2: kind of with the new your back quarter of the
- 12:34Speaker 2: top twelve catchers, I'd be willing to take kind of
- 12:37Speaker 2: a flyer on him. I don't think he's come up
- 12:40Speaker 2: like hitting out of the gate. He's not starting. He
- 12:42Speaker 2: didn't get the start tonight on his first first game up,
- 12:45Speaker 2: So I think they're gonna kind of feel their way,
- 12:47Speaker 2: and I'm not sure if he's up there really just
- 12:49Speaker 2: for backing up until Moreno's back, or if they're actually
- 12:53Speaker 2: gonna let him play. If I knew he was gonna play,
- 12:55Speaker 2: i'd be a little bit more bullish on him. But
- 12:57Speaker 2: because I do love the profile. I actually just wrote
- 13:00Speaker 2: about him two weeks ago, talked about some of the
- 13:02Speaker 2: darts you throw out prospects at this time of the
- 13:04Speaker 2: year of who's gonna get called up, and I'm basically
- 13:07Speaker 2: I'm like this, this is probably the biggest dart throw
- 13:09Speaker 2: because he guy Moreno there and lo and behold he
- 13:12Speaker 2: got hurt and here he is, And so I really
- 13:15Speaker 2: like Castio's profile. He has your point flown a little
- 13:19Speaker 2: bit under under the radar. He's not don't check in
- 13:21Speaker 2: as like a top ten prospect for the Dbacks. But
- 13:24Speaker 2: the guy just hits. The guy just hits, and there's
- 13:27Speaker 2: really no question that the power is going to translate.
- 13:31Speaker 2: You know, he's he's been on a thirty five homer
- 13:33Speaker 2: pace in the miners and yes, it's Reno, I get it.
- 13:38Speaker 2: But it's still to hit thirty five homers anywhere, it's
- 13:41Speaker 2: it's impressive. And if he has that catcher eligibility, I
- 13:45Speaker 2: really really like it. So tentatively optimistic here, I'm twelve teamers.
- 13:50Speaker 2: I'm willing to take a gamble if I got something
- 13:52Speaker 2: in the back end that I can expand and I
- 13:55Speaker 2: need a catcher. I just to your point, it's probably
- 13:59Speaker 2: a only a few weeks here that we get a chance.
- 14:03Speaker 2: As you know, it's uh Moreno has has a great strain,
- 14:08Speaker 2: and that could be two weeks, it could be six.
- 14:12Speaker 2: It's hard to know where we're at right now.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think I'm on board with you in
- 14:17Speaker 1: terms of the assessment, because a two catcher league will
- 14:20Speaker 1: put you, like in the twenty to twenty five ish
- 14:23Speaker 1: top catchers and The way that I do this actually
- 14:26Speaker 1: for my waiver Wire articles is I use all the
- 14:29Speaker 1: CBS data because it gives a pretty good feel of
- 14:32Speaker 1: like home League, Dynasty League, Expert leagues there. It's where
- 14:37Speaker 1: they also used to run tout Wars back in the
- 14:39Speaker 1: day before they moved out Wars to its own, sort
- 14:42Speaker 1: of like Jinky platform, like they just like run it themselves.
- 14:47Speaker 1: But that ownership rate would put you right around the
- 14:50Speaker 1: range of like Elias Diaz, loose campusanokperwiz Bow Naylor, Mitch Garver.
- 14:57Speaker 1: So certainly, yeah, if you're in that range of the
- 15:00Speaker 1: catcher pool, you can't go wrong. I think paid picking
- 15:02Speaker 1: up Adrian del Castillo, although I will say that like
- 15:05Speaker 1: Kawashioka is still sitting out there like in tons of leagues,
- 15:09Speaker 1: if he's still there, pick up Pi Gashioka maybe over
- 15:12Speaker 1: del Castillo. But I think that if you are really
- 15:16Speaker 1: looking for some lightning in a bottle and are tired
- 15:19Speaker 1: with the likes of a bon nailor in a in
- 15:22Speaker 1: a two catcher league like that, certainly del Castillo can
- 15:25Speaker 1: be your man. And I think anything more shallow than that.
- 15:29Speaker 1: I'm watching del Castillo right now and then, But if
- 15:31Speaker 1: he starts getting playing time, gets a couple of good
- 15:35Speaker 1: at bats. I think he could shoot easily up into
- 15:38Speaker 1: like the fifteen ish range, like top.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Fifteen, twelve, Well, fifteen feels about right if you know
- 15:43Speaker 2: he's getting playing time. So it's it hurts to hear
- 15:47Speaker 2: Mitch Garver that far down, Darling, we thought he was.
- 15:51Speaker 2: But yeah, for.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Sure, Yeah, Seattle, that home park will eat anybody alive,
- 15:57Speaker 1: that's for sure, even Garf Sauce. Okay, But we're gonna
- 16:00Speaker 1: stick in Arizona with our next piece of news, and
- 16:03Speaker 1: that is Paul Seawald is being removed from the closer
- 16:07Speaker 1: role there. So this is a jumbled mess because there
- 16:11Speaker 1: are a lot of good relievers now in Arizona after
- 16:14Speaker 1: the trade deadline, as they picked up aj Puck and
- 16:17Speaker 1: added Dylan Floro in separate trades, I believe, right, maybe
- 16:22Speaker 1: if you want to check there for me, yeah, which
- 16:24Speaker 1: is no separate although no way, Dylan Flora wasn't on
- 16:28Speaker 1: Miami before that, my bad, he was on Washington. Yeah,
- 16:32Speaker 1: that is where my confusion was coming from. But it
- 16:36Speaker 1: is a loaded bullpen now and there's all sorts of
- 16:40Speaker 1: You can just go to the roster resource and you
- 16:42Speaker 1: can see like the holds and the winds and the
- 16:44Speaker 1: saves are all different colors, and they're just everyone's lit
- 16:48Speaker 1: up with colors in the bullpen right now. Is People
- 16:51Speaker 1: in the mix for the poul Sea Wall job currently
- 16:53Speaker 1: include Justin Martinez, who got the save actually this afternoon
- 16:57Speaker 1: against the Guardians, but he was set up by Joe Mantiply,
- 17:01Speaker 1: Ryan Thompson, Kevin Ginkle. We've also got Aj Puck, the
- 17:07Speaker 1: aforemissioned doing Floro in this mess. Paul See Walt's still
- 17:12Speaker 1: hanging around, so like, maybe that can be your horse?
- 17:15Speaker 1: Who is your horse in this race? Because I think
- 17:17Speaker 1: this has become one of the greatest debates in our
- 17:20Speaker 1: rasball chat because everybody's wrong. It seems like.
- 17:25Speaker 2: This is a tough one. This is an absolutely tough one.
- 17:28Speaker 2: I'm gonna be a one A and one B because
- 17:30Speaker 2: I really like both of them. My one A is
- 17:33Speaker 2: AJ Puck. I think with how dominant he's been the
- 17:37Speaker 2: last forty five days, ish, I think Puck just looks
- 17:42Speaker 2: the best of all of them. But then I've got
- 17:44Speaker 2: a spot soft spot for Kevin Ginkle. I'm not sure
- 17:46Speaker 2: if it's the name Ginkle or if it is like
- 17:49Speaker 2: the guy's been in Arizona and just solid for the
- 17:52Speaker 2: last three maybe four years. I have to look to
- 17:54Speaker 2: see how far back, But it just feels like he's
- 17:57Speaker 2: always that next guy up and then get few saves,
- 18:00Speaker 2: and they bring a new guy in and the guy falters, giggle,
- 18:03Speaker 2: gets a few saves. Like it feels like he's he's
- 18:05Speaker 2: always there. He just doesn't blow you away. And so
- 18:09Speaker 2: why don't go a steady eddie and give it back
- 18:10Speaker 2: to gingkle So but I feel like there's not a
- 18:14Speaker 2: right answer here, Like I'm avoiding this bullpen like the plague.
- 18:17Speaker 2: If anybody I'm acquiring Seawall because they've invested in him
- 18:21Speaker 2: and he's we know he's a great pitcher. Something's just off.
- 18:24Speaker 2: He'll he'll get right. So maybe I got one A,
- 18:27Speaker 2: one B and one C.
- 18:28Speaker 1: There.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Uh, that was a failure of an answer for your question.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Really, what he really walks that pack?
- 18:34Speaker 2: Give me half the bullpen if you could.
- 18:38Speaker 1: I mean, I am, I do think that, like if
- 18:41Speaker 1: you are desperate for saves. This team is really good
- 18:43Speaker 1: in Arizona. In July they went seventeen and eight and
- 18:47Speaker 1: have worked their way back into the wild card. That
- 18:50Speaker 1: it is an impressive team. There's gonna be more wins,
- 18:53Speaker 1: I think coming down the pike, as they've just been
- 18:57Speaker 1: playing really, really well. So if you are in a
- 18:59Speaker 1: situation where you're in like that Roto league where honestly
- 19:03Speaker 1: a handful of saves like two, three, four saves make
- 19:06Speaker 1: a difference, try to rank you know, these six players?
- 19:10Speaker 1: Is it was it six that I rattled off? Let
- 19:12Speaker 1: me see how many it was again? We have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven,
- 19:19Speaker 1: I'm gonna call I'm gonna throw a mantiply in there too.
- 19:23Speaker 1: List them in like the terms of like what you want,
- 19:25Speaker 1: and use as many roster spots as you need to
- 19:28Speaker 1: acquire them, and just kind of like hope it sorts
- 19:30Speaker 1: itself out because those points in the Rhoto standings can
- 19:34Speaker 1: be huge. Ginkle's my guy here. I'm I'm making him
- 19:37Speaker 1: number one, and I'm not even gonna go b and
- 19:40Speaker 1: see because I'm gonna stand strong. Part of it is
- 19:43Speaker 1: just the overall body of work for Ginkle over the
- 19:48Speaker 1: past month. He's really turned the corner in terms of
- 19:52Speaker 1: uh rounding into a strikeout artist along with being a
- 19:55Speaker 1: solid reliever as a four fifteen era with a one
- 19:58Speaker 1: eighty six FIP that is supported by a twelve and
- 20:02Speaker 1: a half k nine eighteen strikeouts to one walk. And
- 20:06Speaker 1: we saw what Kevin Ginkle could be down the stretch
- 20:09Speaker 1: in the playoffs last year. I think that is where
- 20:11Speaker 1: Arizona turns, even though he seems to be pitching a
- 20:15Speaker 1: little bit more like a high leverage situation. I know
- 20:17Speaker 1: that this bullpen in Arizona's just gonna drive us nutty
- 20:21Speaker 1: for the next couple of weeks. But I do think
- 20:23Speaker 1: that there's lots of opportunities. So pick your guy and
- 20:26Speaker 1: hopefully you can pick up a couple saves out there.
- 20:29Speaker 1: All right. Next transaction we have is a call up
- 20:33Speaker 1: slash a little bit of like an ile stent, but
- 20:35Speaker 1: that is in Saint Louis Victor Scott. The second has
- 20:39Speaker 1: been recalled as Michael Cianni's hitting the injured list with
- 20:42Speaker 1: an oblique and they were covering this a little bit
- 20:46Speaker 1: in the media before Scott kind of came up, and
- 20:49Speaker 1: I was actually I heard it on the game before
- 20:53Speaker 1: we started recording here, that there's a tweak that he
- 20:57Speaker 1: made in his swing between the series against the Iowa
- 21:03Speaker 1: Cubs and the Columbus Clippers. It was actually just at
- 21:07Speaker 1: Columbus Clippers game this past weekend, but they it sounded
- 21:11Speaker 1: like Ryan Ludwick, the batting coach, down Triple A, added
- 21:14Speaker 1: a like an extra kick and extra step in terms
- 21:18Speaker 1: of the rhythm of Victor Scott's swing. And Scott's been
- 21:23Speaker 1: raving about it as well, because in that stretch of
- 21:25Speaker 1: nine games down in Triple A, even though he's been
- 21:28Speaker 1: batting two nineteen on the season, those that nine game stretch,
- 21:31Speaker 1: he pushed it to three to zero, six, popped three homers,
- 21:34Speaker 1: put up a triple as well, and just like it
- 21:38Speaker 1: sounded like things were clicking again to where we were
- 21:40Speaker 1: at with Victor Scott in the spring and kind of
- 21:42Speaker 1: down the stretch last year. Came up immediately hit a
- 21:46Speaker 1: homer in his first game against a lefty two off
- 21:48Speaker 1: of Jeff Springs. So I think he's going to play
- 21:51Speaker 1: a lot in the sort of Michael Sianni role that
- 21:55Speaker 1: he had before he went on the aisle, and that's hey,
- 21:58Speaker 1: Victor Scott plays some good center field defense, bat ninth
- 22:01Speaker 1: and see what you can do. So because of that,
- 22:05Speaker 1: I'm kind of back in on Victor Scott am I
- 22:08Speaker 1: being a little bit unreasonable trying to pursue him in
- 22:11Speaker 1: any fantasy realms out there.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I don't think you're gonna be unreasonable.
- 22:15Speaker 2: I think what you know, his little cup of Tea
- 22:19Speaker 2: told us is that Victor Scott may, he may be
- 22:21Speaker 2: a little overmatch still at the major league level. He's
- 22:24Speaker 2: still got to figure things out. But the potential, the
- 22:27Speaker 2: ceiling here with a guy like Victor Scott, that speed
- 22:30Speaker 2: is just I mean, only there's one guy in the
- 22:33Speaker 2: majors right now is showing that kind of speed in
- 22:34Speaker 2: this Eli de la Cruz. And there's no comparison. Don't
- 22:38Speaker 2: get you know, don't get any crazy ideas here. There's
- 22:40Speaker 2: not a comparison. But if you're in the the hunt
- 22:43Speaker 2: right now and you need steals, you have to pick
- 22:46Speaker 2: up Victor Scott. You absolutely have to pick him up
- 22:50Speaker 2: because he is the lottery ticket that you can potentially
- 22:53Speaker 2: cash in. Because if he's playing, yeah he might hit
- 22:56Speaker 2: two fifty, he might hit two forty, but if he's playing,
- 22:59Speaker 2: he's gonna run. And the Cardinals generally don't have a
- 23:02Speaker 2: problem running. Maybe don't always have the fastest guys, but
- 23:05Speaker 2: from an approach perspective, you know, just think about Tommy Edmonds,
- 23:09Speaker 2: they shipped out. They let him run wild just just
- 23:12Speaker 2: last few years here, so like they don't really have
- 23:14Speaker 2: a problem running. So I do think Victure Scott's worth
- 23:18Speaker 2: drinking the kool aid for. I think it's still a
- 23:21Speaker 2: dart throw, to be honest, but it's not one of
- 23:25Speaker 2: those that you can wait. He's absolutely gonna get picked
- 23:28Speaker 2: up by somebody because if it works, it's a much
- 23:33Speaker 2: higher payback than a guy like Tazenzio or you know,
- 23:37Speaker 2: even del Castillo, because of the impact he can make
- 23:40Speaker 2: on a single category.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm totally on board. Especially I hope that like
- 23:46Speaker 1: he takes a little bit of what Sianni was doing
- 23:48Speaker 1: as well before in terms of just like also using
- 23:51Speaker 1: the bunt as a tool, and just if he's able
- 23:54Speaker 1: to get on base. Mason Wynn has been on fire
- 23:57Speaker 1: this summer. That getting him in front of Mason win,
- 24:00Speaker 1: you can really see where Scott could be an impact
- 24:04Speaker 1: player down the stretch. Okay, well that's gonna wrap us
- 24:07Speaker 1: up for the I mean, unless you're Paul Sewald. The
- 24:11Speaker 1: good news. So let's get into some of those injuries.
- 24:14Speaker 1: I hinted at this one because we definitely cursed him
- 24:18Speaker 1: last week. In terms of, like, it does feel like
- 24:21Speaker 1: huge injuries happened immediately after we record our podcast, and
- 24:25Speaker 1: that held true last week as Mike Trout goes down
- 24:30Speaker 1: with another meniscus tear. And so it's also a very
- 24:35Speaker 1: strange way that this kind of one all unfolded in
- 24:38Speaker 1: terms of Mike Trout was making his rehab stance, he
- 24:41Speaker 1: felt some pain in the knee. They scanned it, said
- 24:44Speaker 1: it was scar tissue tearing, and send him back out there.
- 24:48Speaker 1: He was still having pain in the knee. They looked
- 24:50Speaker 1: at it again, Oh whoops, it's a meniscus tear in
- 24:53Speaker 1: the same left knee that he already had the meniscus tear.
- 24:56Speaker 1: I'm not terribly surprised. Again, Like, I go back to
- 25:00Speaker 1: this a lot in terms of like seeing the Derrick
- 25:02Speaker 1: Rose career like play out, as I had those Bulls
- 25:05Speaker 1: tickets here in Chicago, and this happened to Rose too,
- 25:09Speaker 1: where like he had a meniscus tear and then like
- 25:12Speaker 1: the other part of the meniscus tour. So it does
- 25:14Speaker 1: happen a lot, I think. And where Mike Trout is at,
- 25:18Speaker 1: he's thirty three. Now he's gonna wrap up this season
- 25:21Speaker 1: with a still not stellar but fantastic one thirty six.
- 25:24Speaker 1: WRC plus says he gave us ten home runs in
- 25:27Speaker 1: the twenty nine games he played, hit two twenty with
- 25:31Speaker 1: a three twenty five OBP and five forty one slug
- 25:35Speaker 1: It was a pretty solid year for Mike Trout, but
- 25:38Speaker 1: the injuries have just really really significantly affected him since
- 25:42Speaker 1: twenty twenty one, and even back in twenty twenty he
- 25:46Speaker 1: didn't play like the entire time, and into twenty nineteen,
- 25:51Speaker 1: twenty seventeen he had a thumb injury. It's been a
- 25:53Speaker 1: rough go for the past eight years now, and so
- 25:57Speaker 1: I'm just feeling out, where are you drafting Mike Trout
- 26:01Speaker 1: coming into twenty twenty five.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Yeah, coming in to twenty twenty five, it's it's gonna
- 26:07Speaker 2: be tough. You're kind of treating him maybe kind of
- 26:11Speaker 2: like Christian Yelich going into this year, like a guy
- 26:14Speaker 2: with a lot of potential and you just kind of
- 26:15Speaker 2: seem to not be able to stay healthy. And I'm
- 26:20Speaker 2: not gonna say, like I kind of treat Aaron Jones
- 26:22Speaker 2: the same way, but I think he's broken out of
- 26:24Speaker 2: that enough that I can't say the same thing at
- 26:27Speaker 2: this point in time. But I think you're you're looking maybe, man,
- 26:32Speaker 2: it feels wrong to say, but like in the double
- 26:34Speaker 2: digit rounds at this point, maybe not quite that far,
- 26:38Speaker 2: but it's like you're playing, Yeah, you're planning for like
- 26:42Speaker 2: a maybe half a season, but he's been really, really
- 26:46Speaker 2: good in that half season. Yeah, And so that that's
- 26:48Speaker 2: what's making it really tough here. So if you're looking
- 26:52Speaker 2: for Mike Trout next year, and don't get me wrong,
- 26:54Speaker 2: I love to own the guy because the potential is there.
- 26:57Speaker 2: You're drafting a safe team at the beginning, you're really
- 27:00Speaker 2: looking at those guys that are always in the lineup
- 27:04Speaker 2: there every every day, and then you're starting to take
- 27:06Speaker 2: some gambles down down the path where it's like, okay, yeah,
- 27:09Speaker 2: I picked Mark Mike Trout and he misses some time,
- 27:12Speaker 2: but that doesn't it's not. My team's not built on that.
- 27:14Speaker 2: But if you're picking up some of those other guys
- 27:16Speaker 2: like a Yellich and a Judge and guys like that
- 27:18Speaker 2: that have more injury history, Chisholm, whoever it is, right,
- 27:22Speaker 2: then then you have to be a little bit more
- 27:24Speaker 2: cautious about investing Mike Trout. So it is tough, especially
- 27:28Speaker 2: on Mike Trout's birthday when we're recording, it is Mike
- 27:32Speaker 2: Trout's birthday today, And uh, I couldn't I look to
- 27:35Speaker 2: see what time he was born, to see, you know
- 27:37Speaker 2: how close we really were here. I couldn't find the
- 27:40Speaker 2: birth certificate. But I, yeah, this is disappointing, one of
- 27:46Speaker 2: the best ever, and I just I just hope he
- 27:49Speaker 2: gets like one more full season at some point here.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, Well, so you've got him going maybe, like
- 27:56Speaker 1: I mean, what's the earliest round you think you would
- 27:59Speaker 1: take him?
- 27:59Speaker 2: Then I'm probably starting to think about him like nine
- 28:07Speaker 2: ten right now in the market's gonna take him. I
- 28:11Speaker 2: think the market's gonna be very, very all over the
- 28:13Speaker 2: place on him. But I think the market's gonna actually
- 28:15Speaker 2: try to drop him even further, I say, I do
- 28:19Speaker 2: I think, I mean, think about this year. I'm trying
- 28:21Speaker 2: to remember exactly where he went and drafts this year.
- 28:24Speaker 2: But it was a lot later then you. Then you
- 28:28Speaker 2: probably think you're you'll pull it up here before I
- 28:31Speaker 2: before I'm able to get there. But he was going
- 28:34Speaker 2: quite a bit later than you realize this, even just
- 28:37Speaker 2: this year. And I think that it's the double down
- 28:39Speaker 2: effect next year, So I think he's gonna be slipping
- 28:43Speaker 2: into thirteen fourteen at times next year because I think
- 28:48Speaker 2: people just are gonna trust him, except for there's gonna
- 28:52Speaker 2: be the leagues where like he gets auto drafted at
- 28:54Speaker 2: the top of the queue type of thing. So I
- 28:58Speaker 2: don't know, did you find this ADP for for this year?
- 29:01Speaker 1: I didn't, but I was looking up the so I
- 29:04Speaker 1: was asking asking this as well because Todd Zola, who
- 29:08Speaker 1: has been I mean, he's in the Fantasy Sports like
- 29:12Speaker 1: Hall of Fame and has won an NFS NFBC like
- 29:17Speaker 1: main championship event too, I think. And he ran this
- 29:22Speaker 1: poll just the other day and seventy percent of people
- 29:26Speaker 1: said top one fifty. So like, I think it's going
- 29:29Speaker 1: to be tough finding the market because I think it's
- 29:32Speaker 1: kind of the classic like you only need one guy
- 29:34Speaker 1: who's in there that's or one person who's in there
- 29:36Speaker 1: that is in on Mike Trout still and looking especially
- 29:40Speaker 1: at those rate stats, and it does depend, I think
- 29:43Speaker 1: a little bit on where the projections are gonna be,
- 29:46Speaker 1: because the projections will probably not give Mike Trout a
- 29:50Speaker 1: full season, but they're going to give him quite a
- 29:53Speaker 1: bit of a season, I think. And once you put
- 29:55Speaker 1: that into your auction calculator, like it's going to kick
- 29:58Speaker 1: out a pretty good value, and I think somebody you know,
- 30:01Speaker 1: will work off of that and just also still believe
- 30:05Speaker 1: in my trout. Like I said, he hit ten homers
- 30:08Speaker 1: in the twenty nine games he played. It's not like
- 30:09Speaker 1: any it's not there. Yeah, And especially you look at
- 30:13Speaker 1: that ballpark in Anaheim is one of the top like
- 30:16Speaker 1: three in terms of being a better friendly ballpark. It's
- 30:20Speaker 1: a great place to hit. But I think I am
- 30:24Speaker 1: on board with you. I think I don't touch him
- 30:26Speaker 1: until like post one fifty and then.
- 30:29Speaker 2: It would be around thirteen.
- 30:32Speaker 1: Yeah, so like yeah, I'm maybe even like more like
- 30:35Speaker 1: one twenty then. So like essentially like the tennis area,
- 30:39Speaker 1: where you've built out a lineup for the most part,
- 30:43Speaker 1: you know you've got like the foundational piece of your lineup.
- 30:45Speaker 1: You've got a closer, maybe even two, you've got one
- 30:50Speaker 1: or two starting pitchers, and you're really just kind of
- 30:52Speaker 1: like looking at hey, like if I do put in
- 30:56Speaker 1: my trout here. That's especially just part of like the
- 31:00Speaker 1: the draft, where I mean you can just look at
- 31:03Speaker 1: like Nolan Jones was going in that area this year
- 31:05Speaker 1: and he's been a total zero, so like you can
- 31:08Speaker 1: take a total zero there and still be competitive. So yeah,
- 31:12Speaker 1: I think I'm on board with you, but I just
- 31:14Speaker 1: I do feel like every draft you get into there's
- 31:16Speaker 1: gonna be one person person he pushed it.
- 31:18Speaker 2: I think it's gonna be like if you look at
- 31:20Speaker 2: the spread on the men and the max pick Mike Trout,
- 31:23Speaker 2: I would not be shocked next year if he doesn't
- 31:24Speaker 2: have the largest spread, because it's like somebody's gonna take
- 31:28Speaker 2: him in the fifth round, like probably because if I
- 31:32Speaker 2: looked as adp was about fifth round this year, and
- 31:34Speaker 2: so somebody's gonna take him fifth or or something like that.
- 31:37Speaker 2: And then then another draft, he's gonna go on the
- 31:38Speaker 2: eighteenth just because like the whole he'll hold like nope,
- 31:42Speaker 2: we're out in the c I and then you get
- 31:43Speaker 2: the kind of bandwag and go it right where everybody's
- 31:45Speaker 2: like I'm out on the guy's like nobody's gonna be
- 31:47Speaker 2: the guy to pick pick him and regret it. So
- 31:50Speaker 2: you're right like he is. Right when you're starting to
- 31:52Speaker 2: take those gambles and hoping for the guy to be something,
- 31:56Speaker 2: that's when I'm starting to consider consider Mike Trout, Okay.
- 32:00Speaker 1: Yeah, so we'll see how that all works out, and
- 32:02Speaker 1: hopefully he gets back into the spring fully healthy and
- 32:06Speaker 1: just like looking good. Because yeah, I agree that, like
- 32:08Speaker 1: I want at least one pretty more good ride with
- 32:12Speaker 1: Mike Troud, like a really good season because especially just
- 32:15Speaker 1: to like really relive the old days and push him
- 32:18Speaker 1: back up to like kind of inner circle Hall of
- 32:21Speaker 1: Famer level if he can get back up above the
- 32:23Speaker 1: ninety Fangrafts War total. He's at eighty five right now.
- 32:27Speaker 1: So just like it's just sad the way that's tailed
- 32:31Speaker 1: off considering how spectacular the start was.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's it's I mean, it's not a same comparison,
- 32:38Speaker 2: but it's like King Griffy Junior type thing, yeah right,
- 32:40Speaker 2: which just like the world is your oyster type of
- 32:44Speaker 2: thing from baseball perspective. And then it just the injuries.
- 32:48Speaker 2: The knees just didn't hold up.
- 32:51Speaker 1: Okay, Well, the next injury that we've got is we
- 32:54Speaker 1: just alluded to it earlier with the Kobe Mayo call up,
- 32:56Speaker 1: and that is in fielder for the Baltimore Orioles and
- 33:00Speaker 1: Westburg went down on that same day right after the podcast,
- 33:03Speaker 1: Like in between that, like weird space that he went
- 33:08Speaker 1: down with a fractured hand from a hip by pitch,
- 33:11Speaker 1: so he could make it back by the end of season,
- 33:15Speaker 1: which I think would be great for Westburg owners out there.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Actually I picked him up in a league where he
- 33:20Speaker 1: got dropped just to try to stash him for the
- 33:23Speaker 1: stretch run in a head to head league. Is I mean,
- 33:27Speaker 1: he's been incredible this year with a one twenty nine
- 33:29Speaker 1: WRC plus eighteen homers in six deals, slashing two sixty nine,
- 33:34Speaker 1: three seventeen four ninety seven. What do you think Westburg? Like,
- 33:40Speaker 1: do you think he can get back in time before
- 33:42Speaker 1: the end of season and maybe provide some value down
- 33:45Speaker 1: the stretch? Any reason maybe not to believe that narrative?
- 33:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think he can get back. But
- 33:53Speaker 2: I think what the Orioles you're gonna be doing, is
- 33:56Speaker 2: they're really much gonna be looking for trying to get
- 33:59Speaker 2: him back for the playoffs? Is I think, really what
- 34:01Speaker 2: they're gonna be looking for. So you know, they're twenty
- 34:05Speaker 2: games of a five hundred, they're clearly in the driver's
- 34:07Speaker 2: seat of a wild card birth potentially the division division win.
- 34:14Speaker 2: And if if they I mean, they've got holiday up
- 34:17Speaker 2: they've got Mayo up, They've I mean they've got a
- 34:19Speaker 2: really good team. I mean got Eloy Jimenez for crying
- 34:22Speaker 2: out loud. Sorry, we haven't thrown any sock shade yet tonight.
- 34:27Speaker 2: But I think their their goal is to get him
- 34:31Speaker 2: healthy for the playoffs, and so they're not gonna rush
- 34:34Speaker 2: him back. They're not gonna they don't want to get
- 34:36Speaker 2: in a situation where goes on rehab things are a
- 34:38Speaker 2: little sore, I have to shut him down. So I
- 34:40Speaker 2: think they're gonna be ultra conscious with him, and you
- 34:43Speaker 2: see him back in the last week and a half
- 34:46Speaker 2: of the season is kind of what where I would
- 34:48Speaker 2: see them kind of trying to push to to get
- 34:50Speaker 2: him back. There hasn't been a lot of news on
- 34:54Speaker 2: the injury, so I'm going pure conjecture here of how
- 34:56Speaker 2: I would approach it with him. But your point like,
- 35:00Speaker 2: I would still pick him up if if he's available,
- 35:02Speaker 2: you can pick him up, pick him up, because that's
- 35:05Speaker 2: a freebie. That's a free starter right right there. But
- 35:08Speaker 2: I would not be looking to necessarily try to acquire
- 35:11Speaker 2: him if you still have a trade deadline out there,
- 35:13Speaker 2: I would be looking. If this is a dynasty format
- 35:17Speaker 2: and you've got a team towards the front of the
- 35:19Speaker 2: league trying to make a run for the Roto Championship
- 35:22Speaker 2: or something like that. But unless head to head, that's
- 35:25Speaker 2: the time to acquire, Like if you've got a you know,
- 35:28Speaker 2: really good starting pitcher or something like that that you
- 35:30Speaker 2: can flip and try to bring in a you know,
- 35:33Speaker 2: a young Westburg, gonna be a great lot d up
- 35:36Speaker 2: going forward in Baltimore. From a dynasty perspective, this is
- 35:38Speaker 2: not the type of injury I'm concerned with. It's a
- 35:41Speaker 2: hand pressure to hand. It happens, he'll be back as
- 35:45Speaker 2: good as ever next year.
- 35:47Speaker 1: Okay, Yeah, and I mean you put in the eladrig
- 35:50Speaker 1: but through twelve plate appearances plus tonight, let me add
- 35:54Speaker 1: in tonight. So he got another hit tonight. He's at
- 35:58Speaker 1: fifteen play appearances with come on, fangrafts load fast enough
- 36:04Speaker 1: for me to do this live with seven hits, So
- 36:08Speaker 1: he's you know, actually good. Who knew that? Like, you
- 36:12Speaker 1: get him out of Chicago and give him like a
- 36:14Speaker 1: real training staff that the owner is paid for, and
- 36:17Speaker 1: you could keep Eloy healthy. So they're totally picking up
- 36:20Speaker 1: that extension, aren't they? On Eloy and he's just going.
- 36:23Speaker 2: To go off it like it does feel like that's
- 36:26Speaker 2: what's good.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely happening in Baltimore. Well, we're gonna stick in
- 36:31Speaker 1: Baltimore with the next injury, and that is Grayson Rodriguez
- 36:35Speaker 1: going down with the latin injury. Just placed on the
- 36:37Speaker 1: IL this afternoon. So that's pretty concerning if you're Grayson
- 36:41Speaker 1: Rodriguez owner out there. And I'm starting to feel a
- 36:45Speaker 1: little bit unsteady about just the overall trajectory of like
- 36:49Speaker 1: what Rodriguez has been over the past couple of years.
- 36:51Speaker 1: I mean, the the work has been pretty solid this year,
- 36:54Speaker 1: He's pitched one hundred and sixteen and two thirds innings
- 36:56Speaker 1: to a three eighty sixty ARRA. But now he's battled
- 37:00Speaker 1: like shoulder injuries as well, and just kind of he
- 37:02Speaker 1: does seem to pick up these bruises and bumps, and
- 37:07Speaker 1: I do wonder like he's always kind of had all
- 37:11Speaker 1: that coming through his minor league like track record, and
- 37:14Speaker 1: the Orioles have tried to keep him pretty much, you know,
- 37:21Speaker 1: treated him with kids gloves in terms of like trying
- 37:23Speaker 1: to make sure that they could keep him healthy, and
- 37:26Speaker 1: it's never clearly like worked.
- 37:29Speaker 2: I don't think.
- 37:30Speaker 1: I mean, I'm trying to look back through all these
- 37:31Speaker 1: numbers in terms of like the innings, and you can
- 37:34Speaker 1: see it in twenty two, like twenty two is when
- 37:36Speaker 1: he was battling I think some of those shoulder problems.
- 37:40Speaker 1: And I think this is just concerning for me overall,
- 37:44Speaker 1: because I was starting to, like, in my mind for
- 37:47Speaker 1: twenty twenty five, be prepared to move Grace and Rodriguez
- 37:50Speaker 1: maybe into that tier where you have to draft him
- 37:53Speaker 1: as a number one starting pitcher, because even going into
- 37:56Speaker 1: this year, you had to draft him as like a
- 37:58Speaker 1: two to three. And I didn't mind the strategy of
- 38:00Speaker 1: kind of taking him and another number two like maybe
- 38:04Speaker 1: like a Taj Bradley or something to be able to
- 38:06Speaker 1: work your way through not getting an ace. But I'm
- 38:10Speaker 1: a little bit unsure of that going forward. What do
- 38:12Speaker 1: you think I'm obviously asking the injury guy here about this,
- 38:16Speaker 1: but what do you think about Brayson Rodriguez is maybe
- 38:19Speaker 1: like kind of long term value and whether or not
- 38:23Speaker 1: you're concerned with some of these injuries that keep creeping up.
- 38:27Speaker 2: Yeah, i'd say any're right. I'm the risk taker from injuries.
- 38:30Speaker 2: I'm a little contentative, but I'm not out. I you
- 38:34Speaker 2: know if in the part of the reason I say
- 38:36Speaker 2: that and I and I do fully own I feel
- 38:38Speaker 2: like I'm talking about Noahs cinderguard right now, because it's like,
- 38:41Speaker 2: if you look at the profile of Brayson Rodriguez for
- 38:46Speaker 2: first few seasons, I feel like you're looking at cinderguard,
- 38:48Speaker 2: which is like high strikeout, low walks, good ground balls,
- 38:52Speaker 2: high velocity, like all these things like this, this guy
- 38:56Speaker 2: hits all the marks you look for, and then injuries
- 38:59Speaker 2: just to derail it. And I'm not there yet with Grayson,
- 39:01Speaker 2: Like he's had some nagging things to your point, they've
- 39:04Speaker 2: had the kid gloves, like he's won one of two
- 39:06Speaker 2: pass Like they take the kid gloves off and just
- 39:09Speaker 2: let him go deep in the games and he gets
- 39:10Speaker 2: stronger and stronger, or he just he just never gets
- 39:14Speaker 2: off the off the hill, right, And that's I'm still
- 39:18Speaker 2: willing to give it to him. But the problem you're
- 39:20Speaker 2: starting to run into is that he's so good that
- 39:24Speaker 2: it's hard to invest him as your number one. And
- 39:26Speaker 2: that's I think it to kind of hold his value back.
- 39:28Speaker 2: And he's gonna hold him in that probably top fifteen
- 39:31Speaker 2: range for starters, just because you can't be fully confident
- 39:35Speaker 2: he's gonna get that. I do like what you're talking
- 39:38Speaker 2: about those like he's at the back end of your
- 39:40Speaker 2: you know, starting your number One's like if I'm if
- 39:43Speaker 2: if I'm tunings like a high end two. If I
- 39:45Speaker 2: you're like two high end twos and Grayson's one of them,
- 39:48Speaker 2: I'm really happy about that because then I have a
- 39:50Speaker 2: potential to have two once. Like, because it's not a
- 39:52Speaker 2: skill thing with Grayson. It's an injury concern. It's not
- 39:55Speaker 2: like you're getting somebody in that next year and you're like,
- 39:58Speaker 2: I got Bobby Miller. Let's hope he he's does better
- 40:01Speaker 2: and it falls apart because you've only seen a handful
- 40:04Speaker 2: of games of the Majors. We're not talking about a
- 40:06Speaker 2: skill issue here. It's a health issue. It's not a
- 40:09Speaker 2: Ricky tetem In health issue. It's a Grace and Rodriguez
- 40:12Speaker 2: health issue that I I think I'm still willing to
- 40:16Speaker 2: invest at least for one more try, one more season here.
- 40:19Speaker 1: Okay, Yeah, I think that's fair enough. And I think
- 40:21Speaker 1: we can obviously discuss when he gets back and kind
- 40:24Speaker 1: of down the stretch and how it looks, because I
- 40:26Speaker 1: think that's going to be really important as it plays out,
- 40:28Speaker 1: because this is a guy where like, yeah, if he
- 40:30Speaker 1: was on a losing ball club, I think Grayson Rodriguez's
- 40:34Speaker 1: season might be over, but the Ore need him real bad.
- 40:37Speaker 2: So it's the same thing with Westburg, Like I don't
- 40:40Speaker 2: see him coming back until like the difference to me,
- 40:43Speaker 2: I see him potentially coming back in a rehab, trying
- 40:46Speaker 2: to build himself up and then get like two starts
- 40:48Speaker 2: at the end of the season and then going to
- 40:50Speaker 2: the playoffs again. That's kind of what I see here.
- 40:52Speaker 1: Okay, Well, and now we've got to really like carve
- 40:57Speaker 1: out some space for some grieving as a sad moment
- 41:00Speaker 1: as Luisprinhifo goes down with season ending risk surgery. Sad
- 41:05Speaker 1: moment for all rasballers out here, especially me, because I mean,
- 41:09Speaker 1: Louis Ranhifo was on lots of my teams. Just because
- 41:13Speaker 1: when you get somebody with second, shortstop, third base, outfield
- 41:17Speaker 1: eligibility playing all the time in a great ballpark like Anaheim,
- 41:22Speaker 1: slashing three hundred three forty seven four seventeen in the
- 41:26Speaker 1: seventy eight games, you can just double his stats pretty much.
- 41:29Speaker 1: He would have put up twelve homers he had six
- 41:31Speaker 1: in that time, had twenty four st Dolen bases, which
- 41:34Speaker 1: was amazing. He entered the season with a total career
- 41:38Speaker 1: of eighteen so that came out nowhere as the Go
- 41:41Speaker 1: Go Angels under Ron Washington, Louis Brinhifo was the man.
- 41:46Speaker 1: I just want everybody out there to respect this sad
- 41:49Speaker 1: moment in my life, as I can't use Louis Ranhifo
- 41:52Speaker 1: in any fantasy leagues down the stretch. Do you have
- 41:54Speaker 1: anything to say on Louis brin Hifo in this eulogi
- 42:00Speaker 1: uro Shares because I had a leaks.
- 42:05Speaker 2: So it only helps me at the end of the day,
- 42:09Speaker 2: and I guess the only partying count I have to say.
- 42:12Speaker 2: Something good came out of LA this year, but it's
- 42:16Speaker 2: only fitting that it ended.
- 42:18Speaker 1: Yeah, let me see what his contract status is, because
- 42:21Speaker 1: I'm he does seem like somebody they're just never going
- 42:24Speaker 1: to get rid of, although he's he's a freegent efter
- 42:28Speaker 1: next year, so certainly I'm sure Nico will be on
- 42:31Speaker 1: lots of my teams next year, and I'm hoping Ron
- 42:33Speaker 1: Washington's still around to tell him to go on those bases.
- 42:36Speaker 2: He's like the keky Hernandez of the of the Al
- 42:41Speaker 2: just never wants to go away.
- 42:44Speaker 1: Originally, yeah, I thought he would be that could tell Marte.
- 42:46Speaker 1: But yeah, he's just I'm not even sure what he is.
- 42:49Speaker 1: He's like some sort of really castro clone but really's
- 42:53Speaker 1: also in the Al. All right, Well, now that that
- 42:56Speaker 1: sad moments over, let's get into a couple of picture
- 42:59Speaker 1: picture injuries to wrap up this section. The first is
- 43:02Speaker 1: we got Max Sures that are going down with shoulder
- 43:04Speaker 1: fatigue down in Texas, and I guess the major question
- 43:08Speaker 1: here is do we see Max Sures are back in
- 43:11Speaker 1: any capacity because this does seem like a old man injury,
- 43:15Speaker 1: like the body's just kind of done it?
- 43:20Speaker 2: Does It very much does feel that way. And to
- 43:22Speaker 2: be honest, like I have in a dynasty type league
- 43:25Speaker 2: and I'm like shopping him as much as I possibly can,
- 43:28Speaker 2: Like do you still believe I was kind of doing
- 43:30Speaker 2: it even before the injury of like do you believe?
- 43:33Speaker 1: Like?
- 43:33Speaker 2: Because I do think this is the you know, beginning
- 43:38Speaker 2: of the end for Max Sures. Or I saw something
- 43:41Speaker 2: of him and Jacob ga Gram hanging out together and
- 43:44Speaker 2: I was like, oh man, that just hurts. You know,
- 43:48Speaker 2: he's not going away anytime soon. But he was already
- 43:51Speaker 2: starting to show some signs with the velocity dropping. He
- 43:55Speaker 2: just wasn't quite the max Sures that we expect. And
- 43:57Speaker 2: again the guys is bording now right, and so that
- 44:02Speaker 2: it is that time where it is starting to slow down,
- 44:05Speaker 2: and it's surprising he's he's lasted this long and being
- 44:09Speaker 2: as good as he is. Don't get me wrong, I
- 44:11Speaker 2: still will take Maxtures on my teams. I think you
- 44:13Speaker 2: just have to like temper of like seventy percent of
- 44:17Speaker 2: who you want Max Suser to be and then you
- 44:19Speaker 2: should be perfectly, perfectly happy. But to your point, I
- 44:22Speaker 2: don't know if we if we see him again this season.
- 44:26Speaker 2: I think it really comes down to what's happening in
- 44:28Speaker 2: the standings at that point in time. And you know,
- 44:32Speaker 2: Texas is not they're not out of it now, but
- 44:37Speaker 2: they're not really in it either. It's it's one thing
- 44:41Speaker 2: to say you're five and a half games back in
- 44:44Speaker 2: the in the standings while also being you know, seven
- 44:47Speaker 2: games under five hundred, so that welcome to the in
- 44:52Speaker 2: El Central. But that's kind of that that wouldn't fly
- 44:55Speaker 2: in l Central this year. But yeah, well it's very
- 44:59Speaker 2: very very fair, but that's the which I guess we
- 45:03Speaker 2: picked another division. Uh, but as in Central for the
- 45:06Speaker 2: last five.
- 45:06Speaker 1: Years, it's actually the Al West is the worst division,
- 45:09Speaker 1: like for the far by their hanging Yeah exactly.
- 45:13Speaker 2: So it to your point, like a unless they go
- 45:16Speaker 2: on a heater here, I think sure's gonna gonna probably
- 45:20Speaker 2: be dumb for the year.
- 45:21Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay. The next injury we've got is to the
- 45:25Speaker 1: Braves Raynaldo Lopez, as he is battling a forearm injury.
- 45:30Speaker 1: So we didn't actually cover this when he originally went down,
- 45:33Speaker 1: but it looked like he was making progress from an
- 45:35Speaker 1: initial like forearm strain and then went onto the il
- 45:40Speaker 1: with one just the other day. And so this has
- 45:44Speaker 1: been pretty concerning because I think this has been like
- 45:47Speaker 1: the one concern as you especially have somebody like Lopez
- 45:51Speaker 1: who was in the bullpen last year and has stretched
- 45:53Speaker 1: out to be a starter this year. You know, he
- 45:55Speaker 1: had only thrown around sixty innings for the previous three
- 45:59Speaker 1: years and this year he's already up to one hundred
- 46:02Speaker 1: and four and two thirds over nineteen starts. It's been
- 46:04Speaker 1: fantastic with a two zero six RA but four arm
- 46:08Speaker 1: injuries never great because that usually portends something with the
- 46:11Speaker 1: elbow or just something else more significant going on, because
- 46:15Speaker 1: what the forearm is doing, it's coming from especially the
- 46:18Speaker 1: grip of the ball, and he's feeling something else going
- 46:21Speaker 1: on in his form and just like his entire armed
- 46:23Speaker 1: and gripping that ball harder to ensure that he's making
- 46:28Speaker 1: his pitches. So I think my takeaway in question for
- 46:32Speaker 1: you here is there's been I think a little bit
- 46:36Speaker 1: of like a revolution here that you know the Marvel
- 46:39Speaker 1: has tried to do with this with aj Pucket at
- 46:41Speaker 1: the beginning of the year. You also, I think about
- 46:44Speaker 1: like players who haven't pitched a lot during their careers
- 46:47Speaker 1: and are getting into like new career highs, like I
- 46:50Speaker 1: mean Tyler Glass now has is getting into career high
- 46:53Speaker 1: territory and he's been rough over his past five starts
- 46:56Speaker 1: with a six cra Garrett Crochet is only like going
- 46:59Speaker 1: a couple innings every outing. There's still two months left
- 47:04Speaker 1: in this fantasy season, I think going into next year, like,
- 47:08Speaker 1: these guys are exciting. They've been good pictures for you
- 47:11Speaker 1: down the stretch or like through this point. But like
- 47:15Speaker 1: at the draft table, this was always my concern with Glass. Now,
- 47:18Speaker 1: why I didn't end up with any shares, but I
- 47:20Speaker 1: think it's something I'm gonna kind of track here over
- 47:23Speaker 1: the next couple months and make sure, like I keep
- 47:26Speaker 1: tabs going into next year in the draft of like
- 47:29Speaker 1: where people's career highs and innings are, because if they
- 47:33Speaker 1: can't give me those stretch run innings and I'm on
- 47:36Speaker 1: the wire scrambling for whatever matchup I can find, that's
- 47:40Speaker 1: brutal and puts you back behind, especially in strikeouts I've found.
- 47:45Speaker 1: I guess it's do you think that's a valid strategy
- 47:48Speaker 1: going forward into twenty twenty five drafts? Or am I
- 47:51Speaker 1: overreacting to this too much and I should just kind
- 47:54Speaker 1: of take the deals on these pictures where they come
- 47:56Speaker 1: at the draft table.
- 47:58Speaker 2: I don't think you're you're off base here, Like I
- 48:01Speaker 2: think there's a maybe a little difference between like the
- 48:04Speaker 2: Garrett Crochet situation than like a Rednoultle Brope Lopez or
- 48:08Speaker 2: even a Tyler Glass now guys that just have never
- 48:11Speaker 2: been able to do that versus Crochet guy that's building
- 48:14Speaker 2: up to it. So I'm a little bit more willing
- 48:15Speaker 2: to go after a guy like Crochet and see kind
- 48:18Speaker 2: of what he would would be bringing uh to the equation.
- 48:24Speaker 2: You know, I go back and look at a guy
- 48:27Speaker 2: like Ranger Swarrez, guy that actually started kind in the
- 48:30Speaker 2: bullpen and historically throughout his career last three seasons that
- 48:38Speaker 2: he's really been mainly a starter. He has struggled in
- 48:41Speaker 2: the second half. You know, it's it's not been I
- 48:45Speaker 2: would say, like absolutely night and day he had he
- 48:49Speaker 2: did and I think it was twenty two kind of
- 48:51Speaker 2: come to the scene in the second half, but he
- 48:53Speaker 2: he's kind of like done really well and then kind
- 48:55Speaker 2: of tailed off. It's like those guys that they just
- 48:58Speaker 2: don't seem to have that same stamina. So I will
- 49:00Speaker 2: say a number of my leagues I did go into
- 49:02Speaker 2: this year like I really focused on I'm gonna say
- 49:05Speaker 2: the two hundred inning workhorses, which don't really exist, let's
- 49:08Speaker 2: be honest. But like the guys that had like one
- 49:10Speaker 2: hundred and eighty to two hundred innings consistently and if
- 49:13Speaker 2: they got hurt, like I'll give it to It's a
- 49:16Speaker 2: difference between a guy that gets hurt missus, you know,
- 49:18Speaker 2: five ten games because they you know, tweak it hammy
- 49:21Speaker 2: or you know, the latt leak, whatever it is. But
- 49:26Speaker 2: then then they're back and they continue to do that.
- 49:29Speaker 2: It's kind of like your age old Cole Hamil's type thing,
- 49:32Speaker 2: where like you just knew Cole Hamil's was going to
- 49:34Speaker 2: be two hundred and two ten innings, and you were
- 49:37Speaker 2: that you just took it to the bank. And so
- 49:40Speaker 2: with the the state of pitching that is so few
- 49:43Speaker 2: and far between anymore, you can actually kind of get
- 49:47Speaker 2: the more from your dollar by looking at that picture
- 49:50Speaker 2: that might not be as high in the cape or
- 49:52Speaker 2: nine or something like that, but is gonna give you
- 49:55Speaker 2: the innings because you need one less starter. If you're
- 49:58Speaker 2: bringing those guys in. If you got the guy that
- 49:59Speaker 2: goes the seventh and the eighth inning versus the guy
- 50:01Speaker 2: that's barely making five over the season, you, like I said,
- 50:05Speaker 2: put two of those guys out there that go in
- 50:07Speaker 2: the seventh versus one, or versus like three guys going
- 50:11Speaker 2: to the fifth. It's basically the same thing. You're getting
- 50:14Speaker 2: the same amount of innings and you're probably paying more
- 50:18Speaker 2: for the potential upside of those of those youngsters or
- 50:21Speaker 2: glassdows that are just high octane, but you're gonna be
- 50:24Speaker 2: fighting all season long.
- 50:27Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, I think that that's a I think we're
- 50:30Speaker 1: kind of on the same page there, but like I
- 50:32Speaker 1: think it's a it's a lot of like more nuanced
- 50:35Speaker 1: I think at the draft table than just like looking
- 50:38Speaker 1: at raw skills and kind of looking at stuff plus
- 50:41Speaker 1: rankings and things like that and kind of taking projections
- 50:44Speaker 1: with a grain of salt. That like, it's there's so
- 50:48Speaker 1: much that goes into picture evaluation and it's just another
- 50:51Speaker 1: thing we've got to consider, I think going forward.
- 50:53Speaker 2: The interesting thing that I think we need to watch
- 50:56Speaker 2: with Lopez Gentry, they called up Bryce Elder and first
- 51:00Speaker 2: guy to say, not a Bryce Elder truth there. He
- 51:03Speaker 2: he was a babe, you know, darling at the beginning
- 51:07Speaker 2: of last year and then the wheels just fell off.
- 51:10Speaker 2: And I'll give credit here where credits due, but Lance
- 51:14Speaker 2: Rose that Rosedowski. Uh, he's you know, big pitcher guru,
- 51:19Speaker 2: always watching things, and he just puts something out today
- 51:21Speaker 2: that basically the Elder significantly changes pitch usage between April
- 51:27Speaker 2: and May and when he's now come back to the
- 51:31Speaker 2: to the majors, and his slider usage went up from
- 51:34Speaker 2: the mid twenties to forty percent. And his slider from
- 51:37Speaker 2: a fangrafts like pitching perspective, The stuff plus is a
- 51:42Speaker 2: one thirty nine, which is like a plus plus slider.
- 51:46Speaker 2: His vasketball is a seventy, which is like thirty percent
- 51:48Speaker 2: worse than the average. And so I'm not jumping on
- 51:51Speaker 2: the Brice Elder train, but I love guys that make
- 51:55Speaker 2: changes to their pitch mix and they like basically like,
- 51:57Speaker 2: I know it works, and I'm just going to go
- 51:59Speaker 2: for it. And so if all of a sudden Bryce
- 52:01Speaker 2: Elder starts to do some good things, there's actually something
- 52:04Speaker 2: behind it versus baby book, so keep an eye.
- 52:07Speaker 1: Out for it. Yeah, you can do that in two weeks,
- 52:11Speaker 1: because the Lena literally just sent down Bryce Eldert like.
- 52:14Speaker 2: Did they oh jeez? Well okay, well.
- 52:21Speaker 1: I didn't catch it either because I was like looking
- 52:22Speaker 1: at his patients like yeah, baby, I was like, wait, okay,
- 52:25Speaker 1: he's not in the rotation and roster resource and.
- 52:29Speaker 2: Yep, okay, Well you know it's it's a good thing
- 52:32Speaker 2: when we do great analysis on this on this podcast.
- 52:34Speaker 2: If you made it this far, you got your money's worth.
- 52:37Speaker 2: Let's just forget the last few minuts here.
- 52:40Speaker 1: Hey, I mean I think it's yeah, but it is
- 52:43Speaker 1: getting to the point too. In the pitching side where honestly,
- 52:46Speaker 1: that might be a worthy stash because especially as somebody
- 52:51Speaker 1: who has to find an al only in an NL
- 52:54Speaker 1: only picture to suggest every week, it's slim pickens out there,
- 52:58Speaker 1: and it's really easy to hurt yourself in terms of
- 53:01Speaker 1: like trying to bark up Colorado Rockies or Oakland A's
- 53:05Speaker 1: or Chicago White Sox tree that can do worse than
- 53:08Speaker 1: Price Elder. But we've got one more injury here, and
- 53:11Speaker 1: that is I mean, I know, we just eulogized Luis
- 53:16Speaker 1: when he fo for me. I figured we'd give you
- 53:19Speaker 1: some time in space two more. And your boy, Lance
- 53:21Speaker 1: mccully's junior, as it's been announced he's not making a
- 53:25Speaker 1: return this year. I'm just wondering how many shares Lance
- 53:28Speaker 1: mccollery's junior you're picking up for next year, because he's
- 53:31Speaker 1: clearly going to be ready for spring training, right.
- 53:34Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, Lance McCullers is one of those guys that
- 53:38Speaker 2: there's just a lot of talent out there, and I
- 53:42Speaker 2: wouldn't be shocked if he gets for spring training, makes
- 53:44Speaker 2: a few starts, and I'm picking over the back of
- 53:46Speaker 2: the drafts, going yeah, it's a freebee. Let's look for it.
- 53:49Speaker 2: Don't put anything into it. I'm telling you now. If
- 53:51Speaker 2: I say it next spring, don't listen to me. Lance
- 53:54Speaker 2: McCullers is not something you should be investing in. But
- 53:57Speaker 2: let me let me dream.
- 53:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I'm with you, like I will forever,
- 54:03Speaker 1: like stream as starts if he's making them, but certainly
- 54:06Speaker 1: not anything you ever want to be investing in going forward.
- 54:09Speaker 1: But Lance mccullor's we wish you the best in the
- 54:11Speaker 1: off season and hopefully we can see you in the
- 54:14Speaker 1: spring of twenty twenty eight.
- 54:15Speaker 2: Third Times of the Charm. We'll make it back next season.
- 54:17Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's been quite the stretch of him. So yeah,
- 54:21Speaker 1: let's cover some of the Baseball card news before we
- 54:25Speaker 1: take a break and come back with our July player
- 54:27Speaker 1: at the month PC. Just a few calendar updates, so
- 54:30Speaker 1: we're actually speaking on August seventh, like I said earlier,
- 54:33Speaker 1: and that is the release date for TOPS Finest. So
- 54:38Speaker 1: we're not going to do a big overview of Tops Finest,
- 54:40Speaker 1: but I think it is one of the more fun
- 54:42Speaker 1: sets every year. But I will emphasize fun as well
- 54:45Speaker 1: because I have found, especially the modern finest stuff doesn't
- 54:49Speaker 1: age quite as well or like value quite as well
- 54:51Speaker 1: as like your traditional flagship and your chrome, or even
- 54:56Speaker 1: like Stadium Club nowadays because people have gotten to Stadium Club,
- 55:00Speaker 1: but certainly especially if you were like an eighties nineties collector,
- 55:03Speaker 1: And remember like the first Finest sets that came out
- 55:06Speaker 1: in ninety three and ninety four and ninety two, maybe
- 55:10Speaker 1: I think might have actually been the first. No, I
- 55:11Speaker 1: think it's ninety three, and those were just like the
- 55:15Speaker 1: product that Finest has. I love the design, I love
- 55:18Speaker 1: the art, and I'm will always pick up cards for
- 55:22Speaker 1: my PC and out of like the Finest, but I
- 55:26Speaker 1: usually let it age a little bit because it doesn't
- 55:28Speaker 1: seem to hold as much value unless you're at the
- 55:30Speaker 1: upper upper end, and certainly I think that's going to
- 55:34Speaker 1: be the same with this product out there. But brew
- 55:36Speaker 1: when's the last time have you ripped any Finest.
- 55:40Speaker 2: Sent or No, I really haven't, And just kind of
- 55:42Speaker 2: to your point, like it was ninety three when Finest
- 55:45Speaker 2: came out, and it was like it's like the tops
- 55:48Speaker 2: Chrome of ninety the nineties, Like it was the flashy
- 55:52Speaker 2: product that like it's hard to get high end cards
- 55:57Speaker 2: like that, that's what makes it so fun. So I've myself,
- 56:00Speaker 2: you know, going towards that nineties finest, even the early
- 56:04Speaker 2: two thousand's Finest and picking those cards up, those are
- 56:06Speaker 2: a lot more entertaining, you know, Finest Now, like I
- 56:09Speaker 2: do feel like it's it's lost a little bit of
- 56:11Speaker 2: the allure and it's almost like they've combined it with
- 56:14Speaker 2: like I go back, I look at the designs now,
- 56:16Speaker 2: it's like tops Fire lost the Top's Finest and they.
- 56:19Speaker 1: Like it's almost a little bit too, and it's it's.
- 56:22Speaker 2: Kind of like losses identity where it used to be
- 56:25Speaker 2: just so clear what you know, Top's Finest was it
- 56:29Speaker 2: had you know, crazy borders, crazy cool designs. You know,
- 56:37Speaker 2: we went through years of having the peel off protective
- 56:41Speaker 2: film on them, and so you know, as you've gotten
- 56:45Speaker 2: to I want to say the twenty ten and later
- 56:50Speaker 2: Finest really really started to kind of drop off from
- 56:52Speaker 2: a design perspective, and that's that's definitely hard it but
- 56:57Speaker 2: it's still a very fun product. I think it's pretty ice.
- 57:00Speaker 2: If I recall like two fifty for a hobby, you
- 57:02Speaker 2: get two autos in there, but it's it's just it's
- 57:07Speaker 2: a so i'd love to rip and I and it's
- 57:10Speaker 2: I if you're gonna stretch your budget on one, this
- 57:12Speaker 2: I think is one. I'd actually suggest doing it, just
- 57:16Speaker 2: because it is a very fun product. But to your point,
- 57:21Speaker 2: it doesn't hold the value that it that it wants.
- 57:23Speaker 1: Did Yeah, I agree, And and part of it too
- 57:26Speaker 1: is it's actually like a little bit in between in
- 57:29Speaker 1: terms of how many like cards are in the box,
- 57:33Speaker 1: Like it's not as many as like a tops chrome,
- 57:35Speaker 1: but it's not as few as like some of these
- 57:39Speaker 1: really like one offsets that we're talking about, like Tier
- 57:41Speaker 1: one or museum collection or something. So you get sixty
- 57:44Speaker 1: cards in the box, and that's actually more than I
- 57:47Speaker 1: think it sometimes has been because I did rip it
- 57:50Speaker 1: in twenty twenty. Yeah, twenty twenty, I ripped some finest
- 57:54Speaker 1: and it was a very small box and it didn't
- 57:57Speaker 1: get that many cards out of it because it is
- 57:59Speaker 1: a very premium product. But it's a great gift too,
- 58:03Speaker 1: Like if you're looking for something to give somebody, this
- 58:05Speaker 1: would be a good one. I don't know if I
- 58:08Speaker 1: do it with this year's set, because it looks like
- 58:10Speaker 1: they're traded for like around three in a bucks for
- 58:13Speaker 1: a box like three to three fifty, so that is
- 58:16Speaker 1: pricey kind of gets back to all of our tops
- 58:18Speaker 1: chrome stuff that we discussed a few weeks ago. But
- 58:21Speaker 1: it is certainly a hot market for new products out there.
- 58:25Speaker 1: I would say, way to beat if you can do
- 58:28Speaker 1: it and you're not trying to chase the set or
- 58:30Speaker 1: there's not some sort of specific tie you have to
- 58:33Speaker 1: chrome or finest out there, you know.
- 58:35Speaker 2: And if you're looking for gifts, we have merchas, We
- 58:40Speaker 2: got mugs. I'm just I just thrown on there. We
- 58:44Speaker 2: still have, you know, some wonderful t shirts out there,
- 58:48Speaker 2: so hey, just just saying Finess. But if it's not
- 58:51Speaker 2: in the budget, we got you covered.
- 58:53Speaker 1: Yeah, you can get so many hats for a box
- 58:55Speaker 1: at Finess from us. But the other news that we
- 58:59Speaker 1: have in the card schedule is they were supposed to
- 59:03Speaker 1: also release Tops Pro debut today. They pushed that back
- 59:06Speaker 1: to eight twenty three. They also added to eight twenty
- 59:10Speaker 1: three the release of twenty twenty four Tops Pristine, which
- 59:16Speaker 1: it it does upset me a little bit to see
- 59:19Speaker 1: that like Fire got cut and like Inception got cut
- 59:23Speaker 1: and they kept Tops Pristine because Tops Pristine is not
- 59:27Speaker 1: a great desirable set. I don't like they've been bringing
- 59:30Speaker 1: it out a couple of years now since the pandemic,
- 59:32Speaker 1: but I've not run into one person that's like, yeah,
- 59:36Speaker 1: tops pristine. When the flip side is some of the
- 59:40Speaker 1: sets that we lost, I'd rather have them back. But
- 59:43Speaker 1: it is cool. It's got fun refractors, lots of fun color.
- 59:46Speaker 1: It's gonna have encased refractors again, just like it has
- 59:50Speaker 1: the past couple of years. But you can mark that
- 59:52Speaker 1: on your calendars if you're looking for it. Otherwise, things
- 59:55Speaker 1: have kept pretty study out there. So I think with that,
- 59:59Speaker 1: we're gonna take our break now and we will be
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: back after it to cover our July Player of the
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: Month PC. So stick around, all right, Welcome back everybody.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: We are going to get into our July Player of
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: the Month PC. And so if you're not familiar with this,
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: you can go back to each of our first episodes
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: from every month over the past summer. We've just started this.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: I guess this year. It's only our second season. I'm
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: doing the PUD, so not like we have a huge
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: rich history, but you can go back and see. What
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: we do is go through the Player of the Months
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: from each previous month and pick cards from each player
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: to put into our PC. Just a little fun exercise
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: to not only highlight who's had really crazy months, but
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: also to discuss some really awesome cards, because we've got
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: some bangers here tonight, and we're gonna kick it off
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: with a super deeper star to start everything. Because Bobby
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: wit Junior is the al player of the Month. As
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: he put up, I mean, I didn't fully realize that
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: this was going on until maybe like fourteen days ago
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: or so, just like a couple of weeks, maybe like
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: eight to ten days after the break of when Bobby
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: wit Junior really showed up in the home Run Derby
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: and almost won it that his July was absolutely off
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: the hook. He had one hundred plate appearance played appearances
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: over which he slashed for eighty nine five point twenty
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: eight thirty eight for a WRC plus of two seventy
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: seven homers, eight doubles, twenty six runs scored twenty two hour.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: I picked Bobby wit Junior as my ALE MVP candidate
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: for the beginning of the year in our staff predictions.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: This month has put Bobby wait Junior right back into
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: the conversation I think with Aaron Judge, especially if the
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: Royals do make it through the playoff battle and the
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: al and come away with a wild card. Absolutely insane.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: I think Bobby Wood Junior is lining up. It's going
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: to be a tough battle I think going into next
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: year for twenty twenty five drafts between him and Otani
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: because we'll have picture Otani back. But I think it's
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: gonna be one or the other for that number one pick.
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: We can marinate on that as we also, you know,
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: we'll probably have a first round mock over the next
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: you know month or so, because that's what we did
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: last year, and I really liked it last year, and
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: we'll revisit it. But I'm not going to hold you
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: up any longer. Brew, I know you've been waiting to
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: get some more Bobby Wit Junior cards into our PC.
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: So what did you pick out there?
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: Oh? Yes, I am. I am absolutely excited one of
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: the best players out in the game and had to
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: go with a color match. But I'm going a little
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: on the outside of the color match here with one
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: of the newer parallels that we've had for the last
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: two years, and I'm going with Bobby Witz twenty twenty
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: three tops Chrome frozen Fractor. There's it's technically out of zero,
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: but there's five of these. There's five of them the set,
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: but technically it's out of zero because it's negative five
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: out of zero, negative four out of zero and so on.
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: This is an absolute beautiful card. Is you call it
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: a color match because it's the frozen hint of blue
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: and it's his his rookie cup card. Very you know,
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: I did very much like the twenty twenty three design
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: of the Top Chrome cards, and this is just a
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: perfect card for the PC, very easily accessible for the
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: general ligue. Low price, about two thousand dollars, just guessing
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: you could probably get it for maybe, you know, eighteen
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: hundred if you're really skimping by this. This is an
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: incredible card. I absolutely love it. And the frozen factor
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: felt like a stretch when you're trying to put a
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: card out of zero, but it does work. It's better
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: than a Taco fractor. You can't deny that. And so
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: I'm going with Bobby WITHS twenty twenty three tops Chrome
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: sub zero frozen factor.
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: I think it's an excellent pick because of the light
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: blue that the Royals sometimes wear, and it kind of
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: turns everything light blue on this card, but you still
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: get the gold cup on it, which is kind of
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: I don't know if they have that in this year's
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: Frozen Fractors where it's any color but like white or blue.
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: So as they were figuring that out last year, it
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: might stand out as like if it's a thing going
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: forward for tops Chrome that like, hey, the first year
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: there actually was some other hints of color. So yeah,
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: great choice. I did forget to say that. If you
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: want to see pictures of these cards were describing, because
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: obviously this is and audio medium, click on those show notes.
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: Not only can you find those hats that Brew suggested
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: picking up in the first half of the show, but
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: you can also find a link to rasball dot com
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: where we have pictures of all these cards. Who can
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: check them out there yourself.
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: And if you want to see what Bobby Wit will
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: look like as a smurf, because the picture on there
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: has the blue hue of the headshot in the corner
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: of the twenty twenty three tops Chrome, go check it
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: out over on Rasball Bobby Witt as a smurf. But
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: the Frozen Factor.
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: Yeah, if you want to do in person though, two
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: thousand dollars.
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: Okay, all right, well, where'd you go?
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: For my pick, I went with a rookie card, and
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: because I mean, surprisingly this is the first time I've
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: gotten to pick any Bobby Witt Junior cards for the PC,
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: I'm going with what I think is like my favorite
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: of all the rookie cards out there, because let me
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: tell you, if you go through TCDB, which is Trading
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: card database, there's maybe a million rookie cards Bobby Wit
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: Junior between all the different parallels and inserts and everything.
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: He obviously came into the league in twenty twenty two
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: as a big star. But I'm going with his tops
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: update short print variation, just the regular short print, because
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: it is maybe one of the most glorious photos of
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: Bobby Wit Junior, and it's like what I think about
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: what he looks like in my head with It's just
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: a great shot from kind of like the back angle
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: as he's looking over his shoulder and you can see
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: his eye flack, his big old goatee, and his I mean,
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: it's not the full prominent like mullet that he sometimes had,
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: but it's a pretty good mullet. And I especially noticed
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: this when he was during the home run derby this year.
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: Bobby Wood Junior looks ridiculous. He looks like a ridiculous
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: rock star because he just knows how good of a
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: player he is. And like it's a little bit like
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: that mo of like you know, if you don't have
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: to have like a regular job, you can just like
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: look whatever, like what do you want? And Bobby Whit
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: Junior leans into that because how many dudes out there
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: are rocking Goatee's. Lots of them are rocking and mullets nowadays,
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: but not the mullet and go t combo. It's I think,
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: just a great encapulation of Bobby Witt Jr. I love
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: this card. I wish I could own it.
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: Yeah, it is fabulous. I take a little exception to
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: the go te comments as I had a go tea
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: for many years.
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: But a mullet at the same time.
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: That's true, it didn't have the bullet.
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: It's you're not doing it in twenty twenty four, Like, uh,
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: Goatee's from an era, you know what I mean?
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, but you're absolutely right. I do. I love
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: the analogy there of like if you put Bobby Witt
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: in like a construction uniform, like he fits he looks
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: like he fits in, but he just doesn't give two
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: hoots about what anybody thinks, and he's just like, I'm
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: so good. I make this look good. And I also
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: love the fact that, like this is one of those
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: it's a life card, but it doesn't really have to be.
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: I get that has the logo patch on it, but
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: like you know, his name's just wonderfully centered on the
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: card there and there's no question of who it is.
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: You don't even need to look at the name placer
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: on the card. So great, great pick. I'm a little jealous.
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: I'm sticking with my Frozen Factor. But and here's a
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: baby ten times more accessible.
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, it's it's certainly not cheap, but it is
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: more available. You can find it a little bit more
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: easy than your Frozen Factor. Okay, well, let's hop over
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: to the NL player of the month on the batting side,
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: and this is another guy because yeah, one of like
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: the other things that I do in the fantasy world
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: is write some of those blurbs on rodo wire dot com.
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: They make it to your fantasy sites. And there's a
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: good stretch of time early in July where I was
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: getting lots of Rockies games, which I actually kind of
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: like because it's really fun writing about Rockies players, and
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: especially they're starting pitchers. But Doyle, I just like, for
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: three or four straight times that I was writing for
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: Roda Wire, I was writing a highlight package for him
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: because he had an insane July for the Colorado Rockies.
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: Doyle slashed three thirty three three ninety four eight hundred,
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: that's a two aweight WRC plus came with eleven homers
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: twenty seven RBI, and he's really pushed himself into like
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: some rarefied fantasy era as he's now up to nineteen homers,
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: twenty one stolen bashes with a two sixty six average.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: Brenton Doyle is gonna like win tons of leagues out there,
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: considering he was pretty much free at the draft table
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: as he was terrible at the plate last year. But
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: with that, Rockies players also fun, I think for cards
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: because some of the more unique color combinations out there.
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: And so, who did or what card did you go
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: with to put into the PC for Brenton Doyle.
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: Yeah, Britain Doyle has is pretty thin as far as
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: cards out there, just not a big name coming up
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: to your point, it has been fantastic, but little Nolan
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: Jones ask you get a little flashbacks here with Breton
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: Doyle's stat line, But I'm going with the twenty twenty
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: four tops chrome purple sonar refractor out of to seventy five.
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: It is a fantastic color match. It's also one of
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: those cards where and I wish I'd had the math
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: the ratio of fielding cards to hitting cards for position players.
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: But he is making an outfield diving catch. It's not
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: an sp is his base photo image on there? And
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: the purple sonar is a really really cool design. I
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: mean it makes me think of a sequent dress that
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: I would see, you know, somebody wearing out on the town. Right,
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: it's not off, I mean just the design that the
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: sonar has it is that car had absolutely pops. It's
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: hard hard to describe. I probably didn't know justice at
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: all by calling a sequin dress card, but it is
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: a sight to see. And when you talk about like
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: is it available, we're talking like a five dollar card here.
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: It's a really cool card for five bucks, absolutely available
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: to be in your PC. There's two hundred and seventy
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: five out of them out there, Go get one.
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I think this is a great pick. I do
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: agree with you that you can't even actually see it
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: very well in the picture because the sonar refractor does
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: not photograph well either. In terms of going up on
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: eBay listenings and especially, lots of people use scanners, like
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: old school scanners skin yep. I don't know why, like
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: it's a certain demographic of dudes who learned computers very
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: early on in the nineties use scanners. But it's this
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: is a beautiful card. If you can get any sonar
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: refractor out there, it does kind of help round out
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: what we're talking about, because I don't know if we
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: can do it justice without seeing one in person. But yeah,
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: great choice here with the Tampa Bay Raised logo in
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: the background too. Honestly, I was a little jealous that
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: you stole this card out from underneath me because it
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: would have been my choice if you hadn't gotten into
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: it first.
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: Hey, that's what happens preparation. Early bird gets the worm
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: in this one. The five dollars five dollar purple sonar.
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: Yes, well, yes, I'm also going with a purple color match.
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: Both of our cards also feature Brenton Doyle in a
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: purple jersey. That's part of what I was hinting at
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: with the love of Rockies cards that they really pop
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: in the purple color. But I'm just going with his
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: boring gold plain rookie card from last year than twenty
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: twenty three tops Chrome Update Purple Refractor out of two
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: fifty again, another affordable card, probably going to run you
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: somewhere between like ten to twenty bucks. And I mean
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: it's only up right now because he just one Player
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: of the Month Brenton Doyle. Can't keep that up. I'm
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: sure this thing will fall off a cliff eventually, but
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: just a nice clean card of Brenton Doyle. I also
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: liked it because it honors him being at the plate,
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: which he is usually known for his glove. You know,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: won the goal glove last year, but this year he's
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: been putting it together with the bats, so I wanted
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: to commemorate that. And hopefully he doesn't win another Player
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: of the Month PC or Player of the Month award
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: because our PC already took up properly just about the
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: only two Brenton Doyle cards out there.
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: So yeah, and a little jealousy for any Rockies fan
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: out there that's trying to make a color match team
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: set with the True True Purple. As a Cardinals fan
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: with the True Red originally out of five, I will
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: never own a color set of any of my team's
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: base corona out there because the possible will get the Rockies.
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: You can just imagine the entire team set in the
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: true Purple. It just hits, hits, hits differently.
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: Yes, it's a fantastic color for refractors. Okay, let's flip
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: over to pitchers now. So for the al side, the
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: picture of the Month for July was TODJ. Bradley from
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: the Tampa Bay Rays. He had a fantastic month when
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: he went three and one across five starts with a
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: one forty five ERA, thirty one strikeouts to eight walks,
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: and thirty one innings overall. So this is what I
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: kind of talked about in the first half with TODJ.
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: Bradley's been rounding into a really fantastic fantasy pitcher as well.
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: You know, he's up to eighty six and a third
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: innings on the season with one hundred and three strikeouts
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: a two seventy one ERA. Reminds me a little bit
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: of like Irime Chris Archer in terms of like the
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: production you're getting and maybe it is the Tampa Bay
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: Rays Jersey, but certainly somebody I had some shares in
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: because the stuff is filthy. I love watching Todge Bradley
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: pick or watching TODJ. Bradley pitch. Which card did you
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: pick to put in the PC for Bradley this month?
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: Well, I I was curious if you're going to find
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: little East Egg I left you in our show notes
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: on this one, but I'm taking it you didn't, and
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: so I don't think I did. So I went with
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: the twenty twenty to Leaf trendy TODZ Bradley Rookie patch auto.
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: Technically you know you can argue if his rookie or
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: not because it's uh as he's coming up out of
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: ninety nine. And these are kind of jumbo patch cards
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: if you've seen of the Leaf Trinity patch autos, very
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: actually desirable of all the Leaf products, one of the
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: most desirable cards out there because the patches are usually fantastic.
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: This one is a three color patch and it has
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: what you expect to be part of the logo from
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: one of those minor League teams. But the East Egg
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: I left for you is this is my card. Actually
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: the card I own today.
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: I didn't.
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: And yeah, and so the link I sent you was
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: actually my eBay listing of this card because I picked
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: this one up there is months ago, for like three
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: dollars on eBay because I'm like, Thos Bradley is awesome,
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: us Redley is amazing. This is a cool card. And
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: now I've got that out there up for auction doing
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: my advertising here for myself. But again I had to
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: go there because it is a really great card and
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: I do love leave Trinity cards.
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: Yes, so if you are interested in this card and
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: you want to own it, you can haggle with Jeremy
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: himself on eBay and buddy, we need to talked about
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: your your centering on your photos.
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: Because it's questionable at best.
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: But yes, great choice. He's also he's got a signature
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: that you could swear as Tom Brady.
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: But yes, that's about it.
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: It doesn't have the twelve, so you know it's not
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: Tom Brady. But yes, that is a sick patch and
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: that yeah that's kind of how many times have you
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: run your finger grow over that patch as well?
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: No comment, I'm trying to get the buyers out there.
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: But it's a nice one.
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: I mean, I figured you were always wearing gloves when
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: you were doing it, but details, Yeah, okay, Well my
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: pick is I'm going to go with the twenty twenty
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: three Tops Chrome Rookie card for Taje Bradley, but the
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: Radiating Rookie parallel. So we talked about this a little
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: bit the past recap of the twenty twenty four Tops
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: Chrome because we didn't really dive into it much last
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: year when it came out. It was a new parallel
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: the radiating Rookies. It's actually just the base card with
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: a different refractor on it where it looks like a
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: bunch of like sunshine beams. I figured you can't go
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: wrong with a radiating ray card. So it's a great
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: marriage between the Tampa Bay Rays radiating Rookies. Lots of rays,
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: ray ray ray, ray, ray ray ray. Fantastic little card,
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: pretty affordable too. It is a case hit super short print,
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: so there's not too many of them out there right
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: now listed, but when they do come up, they certainly
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: go for cheaper than what they're like sitting there on
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: the market for right now. Just maybe wait for the
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: next auction if you're looking for one. I think it's
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: going to be both of them are preestylid investments. Because
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: I do think that, you know, Taj Bradley is just
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: turning a corner. He's twenty three. I do think that
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: the future is very bright for him, so we will
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: see where he goes.
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: Wonderful pick. The Radiing Rookies have grown on me a
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: lot the last year. I think they are fantastic cards,
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: a great parallel the Tops has introduced in the in
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: the bevy of parallels they've they've they've brought.
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: Out, Yes, and I kind of know why because I
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: can see what cards we've picked in the rundown. It's
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: getting to Yeah, hint, hint, We'll We'll find out a
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: little bit later.
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: No foreshadowing there.
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: The NL Picture of the Month was Dylan Cease from
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: the San Diego Padres and obviously a lot of is
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: throwing that no hitter against the Nationals just the other week,
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: the second no hitter actually in San Diego Padres history.
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: I've witnessed both of them, between him and Joe Musgrove,
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: so that's been pretty cool. But Dylan Cees, if you
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: also want to kind of talk about taking a star turn,
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: He's really turned it on over the past month. In July,
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: he put up a two thirty five ear array over
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: thirty eight and a third innings with an eleven and
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: a half K nine forty nine to strikeouts. The thirteen
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: walks went four and two, and really, I mean he
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: faced a pretty difficult stretch too that came against here
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: was the matchups at Texas home against Arizona, home against Atlanta,
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: at Cleveland, at Washington where he through the no hitter,
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: then home against the Dodgers. That's who we put up
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: that two thirty five array against. He's become I think
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: a fantasy ace. I think he's going to be in
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: probably back end of maybe like the top ten conversation
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: for twenty twenty five. I guess we'll kind of see
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: where the dust settles and kind of how injuries sort
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: their way out down the stretch here. But what card
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: did you pick to put in the PC for Dylan
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: cease this month?
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm sticking with fun parallels here. We're going with
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: his twenty twenty four top Chrome lightboard logo refractor. Another
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: super short prints, not a numbered card, but this is
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: a new parallel well from twenty twenty four Chrome and
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: it's kind of playing on with what they were incredibly
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: successful with with the team logo border cards in the
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: flagship paper product, and this one has the team logo
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: in what you would call a lightboard like on the
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: back in a very kind of retro kind of radiating
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: type of view. And it's hard to describe unless you
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: look at it, but it is an absolutely beautiful card,
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: very unique, and if you're a team collector, if you're
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: looking cards of a team, you love the logo of
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: your team. These cards stand out. And as I look
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: at the Dylan ces card, his his fall through making
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: a delivery to the plate and it just absolutely sticks out.
- 1:21:12Speaker 2: And I had to get something in the Podrais Jersey
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: where he's at now. I just wanted to harken because
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: how amazing he's been this month with that. No, no,
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: like you had to reward him with a Podrais card.
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: So going with the lightboard and it's so a little
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: pricey out there, those are they're kind of going the
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: forty fifty dollars range for the lightboards, so pretty pretty
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: much desirable.
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think they're beautiful cards that, like,
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: I know, I've dogged the twenty twenty four design a
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: lot on this podcast over the past few months, and
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: I it works perfectly with the lightboard design. Every single
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: one of them I've seen has been absolutely gorgeous, and
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: I think that's probably part of the reason the price
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: is so high that even if people were so so
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: on the twenty twenty four overall design, like, you can't
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: deny how eight these lightboard logo parallels have looked so great.
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: Pick all, right, where did you go with Dylan Cees?
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: I know he's your boy from the South Side, So
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: where'd you go?
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: Yeah, that's where I had to go. And this is
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: one where I almost picked one from my PC to
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: put in there. But this is one that I don't
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: have this version of the card. I don't think I
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: have the auto version of this card anywhere, but I
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: do have a few of the base and it also
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: is one of my favorite sets that has kind of
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: come out in the last like handful of years, five
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: years or so. It's twenty twenty tops chrome black refractor
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: auto of one point fifty. It's a rookie card for
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: Dylan Cees back in twenty twenty. I just love the
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: twenty twenty black chrome design overall that I think it's
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: sharp and the refractor is great because the triangles really
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: pop in the background with that refractor rainbow and creates
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: a little bit of like a mirror effect too. Like
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: when you're holding these cards in person, they're just absolutely gorgeous.
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: It's a he's got a pretty solid autograph. He's another
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: player where there's a ton of rookie cards out there
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: because he was a hot rookie for the White Sox
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: back in twenty twenty. Lots of auto cards too. So
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: certainly if you're looking for any of those Dylancy's Auto rookies,
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: they're pretty affordable. That like even this of one P
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: fifty parallel goes into like the forty to fifty dollars range.
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: The base version of this auto only goes in like
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: the twenty dollars range. And the base version, non auto
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: of this card is very easy to get too. I
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: think it's a it's a beautiful card.
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: So I think the real question for you, and this
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: is this is a true collector question here, hopscrumb black
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: autos come in case. Yeah, do you leave it in
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: case or do you bust it out?
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: It does depend on the condition of the case. So
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: if it's a pretty clean case, I leave it incased
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: and just roll with it from there. But if you
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: get one that's kind of you can tell. The ones
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: that have made their ways around card shows are been
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: shipped around the country through bubble mailers are hopefully bubble mailers.
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: Like you do encounter something there scratch, I will pop
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: those open, but otherwise I leave them go what about you?
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: I pop almost all open, or I get rid of them.
- 1:24:27Speaker 2: I'm a monster box storage guy, and so I need
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: them to fit in the box, and these don't fit.
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: The faces hanging out the top and throw the lids
- 1:24:40Speaker 2: all off, and I can't store them cleanly, and so
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: they sit on the side and eventually get frustrated and
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: I either if it's a PC, I generally just take
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: it out, top load it, move on with life because
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: you love the card because they are fantastic cards. It's
- 1:24:52Speaker 2: kind of a quasi PC something off the side where
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: I was just like cool player, pot it for cheap
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: something like that. It's moving on. I just I can't
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: keep the encase cards. They drive me nuts.
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: So you don't have like an odd balls shape box
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: like I've got like two, I've got both like a
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: minise like minis parallel box, I've just all the different
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: minis and then like another like lunch box. It's like
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: a lunch pail where it's got a bunch of like
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: the encase stuff that came in case. So you don't
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: have something like that.
- 1:25:23Speaker 2: It's just literally my I have p s A graded cards,
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: a few more sideways in the luster box, which is
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: the most inefficient stories about that ever. But I'm like, well,
- 1:25:36Speaker 2: I gotta have with the play. I got most of
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: my sort of by player, and so I've got to
- 1:25:41Speaker 2: have the PC players together. And and if they're I'll
- 1:25:45Speaker 2: make the exception if they're the if they're the nice
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: display cards, those are usually encase. I got those encased.
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: They're grade of those types of things. But if it's
- 1:25:52Speaker 2: the PC, just the cards I love. They're sitting in
- 1:25:56Speaker 2: a monster box. They're all top loaded in there. Uh
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: don't worry. I'm taking care of them. But I got problems.
- 1:26:05Speaker 2: It's a guy, no.
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: I learned something new about you every pod. Okay, let's
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: move on to those rookie player of the months. So
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: for the al side, we have twenty two year old
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: Colt Keith from the Detroit Tigers. And I love to
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: see this because he was so cold to begin this season,
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: and it was tough. I mean, obviously Detroit's very cold too,
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: so he wasn't the only person who I think struggled
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: in Detroit, because lots of people do at the gate there.
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: But I felt really good about cold Keith coming into
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: the season. That was maybe like my one hesitancy is
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: playing in Detroit comes with that park and that really
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: cold April. But the July for cold Keith was absolutely stellar.
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: He hit three twenty two, four h four, six forty four.
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: That's a one ninety WRC plus across ninety nine plate appearances,
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: seven homers, three triples, one double, so more more triples
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: than doubles in the month of July. That's really what's
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: boosting his slugging percentage. But that's also brought his season
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: line up to as we're speaking here on August seventh,
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: up to two fifty two average with eleven homers. That's
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: a pretty solid am I second baseman again, only twenty two.
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: I think that the future is very bright for Colt Keith.
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: So these are cards that I think will be collectible
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: in the future, because I don't think he's a hot
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: name in the collecting world. Right now. But if he
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: keeps putting up this production level going forward, you can
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: just see where the detractory of his career could go.
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: What card are you going to pick to put in
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: the PC for Colt Keith?
- 1:27:46Speaker 2: Yeah, so you foreshadowed this one. I am going to
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: go with a radiating Rookie. We're going with this twenty
- 1:27:53Speaker 2: twenty four tops chrome rating Rookie super fractor for Colt Keith.
- 1:27:58Speaker 2: Here this is one of one super fractor and you know,
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: we kind of just espoused how great they actually did
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: with the radi Any Rookies. And if you put the
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: superfracture on top of the radi Any Rookies, it makes
- 1:28:10Speaker 2: the base rating Rookie look just sad like. And that's
- 1:28:13Speaker 2: a beautiful card. I mean this this just you know,
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: for those that don't know superfractors, well it's generally a
- 1:28:20Speaker 2: gold base, kind of pure sparkle, almost atomic type of card.
- 1:28:26Speaker 2: Well when you put that behind a yellow bass starburst
- 1:28:30Speaker 2: type card, it just pops to no end. And is
- 1:28:35Speaker 2: this card is just unbelievable. Like I said, the one
- 1:28:38Speaker 2: of one. It was on EBA. I didn't find see
- 1:28:40Speaker 2: the final sale price, but it was best offer at
- 1:28:43Speaker 2: three thousand dollars. I'm gonna say it probably went for
- 1:28:45Speaker 2: a little less than that, but it is just an
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: absolutely unbelievable card somebody now has in their PC absolutely
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: enjoying it because there's probably not a prettier, prettier Coult
- 1:28:56Speaker 2: Keith card out there.
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I agreed, Like, man, this is one where I
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: would love to see it in person because the picture
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: you can already tell it doesn't do it justice. And yeah,
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: if you aren't familiar with superfactors too, it's actually like
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: a gold vinyl. It's called like gold turn, I think
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: is what's called that. Like if you've ever seen a
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: fire engine up close, they use the same thing on
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: the gold lettering on fire engines, and so it's a
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: really it's got a texture to it that I would
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: love to see this in person. That like, I'm sure
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: if you get it under like some sunlight too, it
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: just like what just lights up.
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: It's beautiful. I can't afford it.
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: Okay, well you picked the pretty one, I'm picking the
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: weirdo one. I'm going with the twenty twenty four tops
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: now number two twenty eight from Cold Keith. Commemorating his
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: first home run, I said that he started cold. Here's
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: how cold he started. He didn't pop his first home
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: run this year until May twenty fourth, And you can
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: see the relief on his face in this card. And
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: it is just also emblematic of today's like modern baseball
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: in terms of he's holding the home run celebration for
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: the Detroit Tigers this year, which is the little Caesars
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: pizza on like the spears, the pizza pizza and wearing
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: this might be the worst city connect jersey, I.
- 1:30:22Speaker 2: Think the slope softball jersey.
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: Yeah, with the tire tracks, it looks like you've gotten
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: run over. Like I can't believe that was approved in
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: any facet that Like, it just does look like some
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: other opponent or somebody ran over you and did a
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: burnout on top of you. It is an awful, awful jersey.
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: You had the opportunity to lean into the orange up
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: in Detroit with the Tigers that the Tigers like, Man,
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: they really blew it. But this is all that I
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: think combines to just make a really fantastic card that, like,
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: especially if you're a Colt Keith fan out there, I
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: think you've got to have this one in there between
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: commemorating how slow of a start he had with his
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: Spurst homer and just how goofy modern baseball is with
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: the celebrations and City Connect uniforms.
- 1:31:10Speaker 2: This is just pure unbelievable, an amazing card. To your point,
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: who thought who took that picture? And he was like, yes,
- 1:31:20Speaker 2: this is the picture we're gonna use. Like, there's gonna
- 1:31:22Speaker 2: be so many other other options, and this is what
- 1:31:25Speaker 2: they went with. I absolutely love it. This is this
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: is fantastic, This is this is the beauty of tops Now.
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: Tops Noile is not the most collectible thing, but sometimes
- 1:31:34Speaker 2: they just get it right. Whether it's Otani striking out
- 1:31:36Speaker 2: Trout in the World Baseball Classic or Colt Keith with
- 1:31:40Speaker 2: a little see pizza in a City Connect Jersey. You
- 1:31:43Speaker 2: got the spectrum.
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: Love it, yes, exactly. So a print run of like
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: fourteen hundred and twenty eight it looks like so rare
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: but not rare, you know. That's kind of like a
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: good sweet spot and I think a pretty affordable tops
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: Noowl card out there. So if you are in trusted
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: by that pizza Pizza, go get it all right. Now
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: we're going to get into here's the goofy one. There's
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: always it feels like a goofy one, especially as we
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: get deeper into the season. This one is crazy, Like
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: I didn't even have a chance to cover him in
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: the waiver wire report because his his ownership percent is
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: shot up so quickly. As who I'm talking about here
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: is San Francisco Giants Tyler Fitzgerald, crazy crazy month of July.
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: It was only fifty nine played appearances, but he hit
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: three twenty one three ninety four eighty nine with a
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: two thirty seven slug eight homers, including a stretch of one, two,
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: three four five in a row five games with a homer.
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: I mean two of those were against Colorado in Colorado,
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: but as well as like he hit a couple more homers,
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: three more homers against Colorado at home the next weekend.
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: It's a lot of like why he did this? I
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: one thing I did pick up in the waiver wire
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: report was like telling people, hey, you know, it was
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: a startch of like seven out of ten games that
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: the Giants played the Rockies, and it's like you might
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: want to pick people up, but Fitzgerald was the winner
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: of that central allnoy boy. He's actually from Springfield, Illinois,
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: which I found out today he is twenty six years old.
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: I'm not sure how much longer this ride's gonna last,
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: but he does have three homers already in August at
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: Cincinnati and at Washington, so part of it is like, yeah,
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: he's in just a crazy stretch of the San Francisco schedule.
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: The prices are also going through the roof here too,
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: so if you are interested in Tyrold Fitzgerald cards, give
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: this a little bit to wait because the prices are
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: going through the roof. But I think we've got a
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: couple of fun ones here. What card did you pick
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: to put in the PC for Tyler Fitzgerald.
- 1:33:48Speaker 2: Well, I'm going to stay on the kind of goofy
- 1:33:50Speaker 2: track here with cards. And Fitzgerald doesn't have a vast
- 1:33:55Speaker 2: number of cards out there because he's again what kind
- 1:33:58Speaker 2: of like Doyle, wasn't this you know, huge prospect coming up,
- 1:34:00Speaker 2: so they didn't have all kinds of options. His rookie
- 1:34:03Speaker 2: card was kind of limited. But I am going with
- 1:34:06Speaker 2: his twenty twenty three Richmond Flying Squirrels the double A
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: team for the Giants team card. This is the choice
- 1:34:15Speaker 2: brand that does a lot of the minor league cards.
- 1:34:19Speaker 2: No more for the fact that it is the Flying
- 1:34:22Speaker 2: Squirrels and they have the logo in there of the
- 1:34:26Speaker 2: Flying squirrel I absolutely love it. This is like a
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: two dollars card, but it is the Giants. I think
- 1:34:35Speaker 2: they have some of the best league teams out there. Like,
- 1:34:37Speaker 2: how can you not root for the Flying Squirrels. I've
- 1:34:39Speaker 2: never seen them play. I don't know much about where
- 1:34:42Speaker 2: they're even located there in Richmond, Like it's just the
- 1:34:46Speaker 2: Flying Squirrels, like the greatest branding out there. I didn't
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: know they what other options they had, if it was
- 1:34:53Speaker 2: the sloths or the bunnies, Like, and you want flying
- 1:34:55Speaker 2: Squirrels and good job. I love it. So going with
- 1:34:59Speaker 2: kind of a KOOKI here with Tyler Fitzgerald in the
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: minor league for the Flying Squirrels.
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's a great choice. It also, like
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: Triple A baseball is just funny because you get like
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: such a vast difference between the quality of like fields
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: and stuff, and you get that in this card with
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: just the shadows underneath the lights that it's gonna be
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: so hard to hit wherever he was, you know with it,
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: I mean it looks like in Richmond because he's wearing
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: a white Jersey. But yeah, that's got to be really
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: tough to like pick up the ball and that type
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: of lighting. And then let's just say that the flying
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: Squirrel logo placement, it's a little precarious.
- 1:35:36Speaker 2: I might have I was there, but like, yeah, it's
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: a little precarious on the regions on which the Flying
- 1:35:44Speaker 2: Squirrels presented.
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: So but yes, great pick, and uh yeah, I think,
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: like you said, Fitzgerald doesn't have too many cards out there,
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: but was in Series two and Tops Chrome with Rookies
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: that I'm sure when people saw that name on the
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: checklist they've grown to But now it's been pretty huge
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: because I'm picking an absolutely what is right now a
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: monster card because did you see the price on the line.
- 1:36:12Speaker 2: I just I just saw it as unbelievable, like this
- 1:36:15Speaker 2: is this is the market correction is due.
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: But I picked Actually I'll click on it again because
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: I forgot the pricing myself. Ended up going for six
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: hundred and seventy six dollars this card. It is the
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: twenty twenty four Tops Chrome Auto Orange version of twenty
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: five for Tyler Fitzgerald. I picked it obviously for the
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: orange color match, but also because this is like the
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: one card that I found of what was available, where
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: he's very clearly coming back around to the plate after
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: hitting a homer and like pointing up to the his
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: like whatever god he he serves in terms of like
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: I mean, obviously the baseball gods, but he's pointing to
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: the sky and right after homer, and that's that's who
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: he's been, mister Gigante. He's wearing the Gagante's jersey in
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: this card that he's been crushing a lot of homers.
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: He's been doing this celebration a lot. I thought it's
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: a good time to commemorate that, given this card is
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: six hundred and seventy six dollars right now. But I'm sure, actually,
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: like on release date when it came out, if you
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: had ripped this card and pulled it out, it might
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: have accidentally ended up in like a dollar box. Because
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: Tyler Fitzgerald has certainly shot out of nowhere to be
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: able to go on this crazy run. Let's hope it
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: keeps going. But I mean, if you've got him in
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: any fantasy leagues out there, ride the hot hand while
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: you can, I.
- 1:37:44Speaker 2: Just have to call out how how insane the price
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: on us is, because I'm still astonished by it. Jordan
- 1:37:49Speaker 2: Lawler's rookie Auto out of twenty five the same exact
- 1:37:53Speaker 2: parallel went for two d twenty seven dollars, a third
- 1:37:57Speaker 2: of the price. Then Joyce had a PSA ten, the
- 1:38:02Speaker 2: same parallel go for three hundred and eighty dollars and
- 1:38:04Speaker 2: they got and that guy got hype going crazy for
- 1:38:06Speaker 2: him right now. And you know, I was looking back
- 1:38:11Speaker 2: at some of the other you know names, and I
- 1:38:13Speaker 2: think one that jumped out to me was Joey H Maness.
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: I'm not from now that the same right Vanessa's for
- 1:38:22Speaker 2: the Nationals and his rookie and because Manessa's had like
- 1:38:28Speaker 2: some major hype right when he came up, and he
- 1:38:30Speaker 2: went kind of crazy for a while.
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: Yeah, crazy strikers.
- 1:38:33Speaker 2: Yep, same card rookie True Orange out of twenty five,
- 1:38:39Speaker 2: thirteen dollars.
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: I mean this Gerald card could it could be worth
- 1:38:46Speaker 2: twenty bucks in like like a year from now.
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: So I mean, I think it's gonna actually I don't
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: know if it's ever gonna bottom out too much because
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: of the color matches, the color metchal help. Yeah, and
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: giants collectors are ravid, like I'm sure whoever was chasing
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: this like there aren't there's only obviously twenty five of them,
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: and let's see how many of them actually like make
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: it to eBay. But especially like where Giants fandom is
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: in terms of like all of the weird like Tampa
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: Bay Rays mix and matching they do in their lineup,
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: they really hold on to to players that I wouldn't
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: be surprised just in terms of like folklore, this month
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: of Tyler Fitzgerald kind of goes down in Giant's history
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: and this card it's not gonna be six hundred and
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: seventy six dollars, but it might not ever dip below
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: triple digits, honestly.
- 1:39:36Speaker 2: So the Kyle Harrison So I'm going back at you
- 1:39:40Speaker 2: Giants color match Kyle Harrison Sam exact card Rookie one
- 1:39:45Speaker 2: hundred dollars.
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: Well, there we go. Triple digits.
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: Sorry, ninety six plus shippings.
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: Hey plus tax? Yeah, triple digits. I would put that
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: on my table for a hundred yep.
- 1:39:57Speaker 2: Oh, it's a great card. But I'm just I'm still
- 1:40:00Speaker 2: besides myself with the uncertainty of this market.
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: Tives not going to be a great ROI on that one.
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: I can tell you that. Yeah, but yeah, this was
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: a blast. Right wrapping up July, I'm glad that we
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: didn't have to dip into the reliever pool, that we
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: got some fresh blood. So certainly we gave you cards
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: from high end to low end. So if you're following
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: along out there and picking up some of these cards,
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: I think you've got some pretty great options for this month.
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: But let's wrap it up now for this week. Brew
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: let everybody know where they can find you, read your stuff,
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: and contact you in socials that they want to.
- 1:40:34Speaker 2: Yep, find me over at Twitter, slash x at Jay
- 1:40:37Speaker 2: Brewer one seven, find me at rasball on the weekends
- 1:40:40Speaker 2: on Sundays doing your top one hundred hitters for the
- 1:40:42Speaker 2: rest of the season, and Hitter Profiles will be releasing
- 1:40:44Speaker 2: another batch to your top one hundred hitters for the
- 1:40:47Speaker 2: rest of the season here in a few days. We
- 1:40:50Speaker 2: are about a month and a half left, and so
- 1:40:53Speaker 2: it is getting dicey, which means everybody's flying around that
- 1:40:55Speaker 2: top one hitters. You get hurt, you're out. Now a
- 1:40:58Speaker 2: hot week you're in. Let's see where Fitzgerald lands this
- 1:41:02Speaker 2: time around? How about you? Where can people find you?
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: Who wait for real? Is he in your top one hundred,
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: he's cracking.
- 1:41:08Speaker 2: Oh, it's gonna be real close, it's gonna be real quiet.
- 1:41:11Speaker 2: I think the hot streak, he's gonna have to make
- 1:41:13Speaker 2: it in just because if this can continue for two
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: three weeks, I mean just the average value that he
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: produces versus somebody that's that's just playing like their standard
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: skill set, Like it's actually gonna pay for itself. So
- 1:41:27Speaker 2: that's what's so crazy about the top one hundredth end
