- 0:02Welcome to Impact Ready, a show dedicated to helping you elevate
- 0:06your impact in the world. I'm Steph Safra, your host.
- 0:09Let's explore the power of showing up with intention and
- 0:12energy each day. This is for those who seek to
- 0:15make life truly meaningful. Get ready for impact.
- 0:22Hello team. Thank you for being here.
- 0:24In this episode today, I want to talk about something that I've
- 0:28been thinking a lot about lately.
- 0:30It's something that is a little bit vague.
- 0:33When you first start talking about it, it can mean a lot of
- 0:36different things. But once you start to grasp the
- 0:39idea of it, people can really run with it and they can apply
- 0:42it to lots of different areas of their life.
- 0:44And it's this idea of personal power.
- 0:47Every single person on the planet is inherently powerful.
- 0:52They have capacity to do incredible things.
- 0:55They have a lot of potential. They have a lot of access to
- 0:59intelligence. They have the ability to learn
- 1:01and be resilient. And yet what I've seen for so
- 1:05many years in all different capacities is that many powerful
- 1:09people are still living below their power.
- 1:12They're living below their capacity or their potential.
- 1:15They aren't using their voices. They're not standing up for
- 1:18themselves. They're not setting boundaries.
- 1:20They just aren't living in their power.
- 1:22They're not standing up as powerful people and acting that
- 1:26way in the world. And it's not because they aren't
- 1:28capable, because they are. They're a lot of them are really
- 1:32smart. So it's not because they don't
- 1:34have intelligence. They have all these qualities
- 1:37and these skills. It's not because of any of that.
- 1:41It's typically because they refuse to take full ownership of
- 1:45how they're showing up in their life.
- 1:47And that's really what I want to talk about today, what it means
- 1:51to show up and be impact ready. Whether you like it or not, your
- 1:57impact is always happening in the world.
- 2:00You're always broadcasting a message through your energy,
- 2:03your tone, your reactions, your communication, your follow
- 2:06through all of it. It's always, always broadcasting
- 2:10a frequency that other people can interpret and feel, even if
- 2:14it's unconscious for them. You are always shaping rooms.
- 2:18You are always shaping relationships.
- 2:21You are always shaping your own nervous system.
- 2:24And we've established that many times.
- 2:27But the question isn't am I making an impact?
- 2:31Because we know you are. It's happening whether you
- 2:33wanted to or not. The question is, am I making it
- 2:38intentional? And that's what we often come
- 2:41back to is how do I show up with intention?
- 2:45How do I make my effect and my influence on the world on
- 2:49purpose and not just accidental or random or inconsistent?
- 2:55It's funny because this is a lot like breathing.
- 2:58We're always breathing, all day long, every day.
- 3:01You and I are breathing oxygen into our lungs, out of our
- 3:04lungs, and we very rarely think about it.
- 3:08Our bodies just do it automatically.
- 3:10It's part of the autonomic nervous system.
- 3:12It's on autopilot. That's great.
- 3:15We don't think about breathing until something goes wrong and
- 3:18we can't get the air in that we need or until somebody mentions
- 3:21it. So right now you're probably
- 3:23sitting there thinking, God, I'm not breathing very deeply.
- 3:26Or you have a keen awareness of what your breath is doing, and
- 3:30that's just like impact. Until somebody brings our
- 3:34attention to our impact, we really don't think about it that
- 3:37much because we get so used to the fact that it's always
- 3:40happening. And this is a good thing in
- 3:43general. But it can also be problematic
- 3:46in that if we aren't using our skills to make it purposeful, we
- 3:51can easily get into long periods of time, seasons of our life
- 3:55where we're not having great impact at all.
- 3:57Sometimes it can even be negative.
- 4:00And one of the ways that our impact can go sideways is when
- 4:04we forget that we are powerful people.
- 4:08Frankly, in our culture, we've normalized powerful people
- 4:12behaving powerlessly. We do things like shift blame to
- 4:18other people. We point fingers, we make
- 4:21excuses for why we didn't show up on time, or we didn't follow
- 4:25through on that thing or we didn't deliver on something.
- 4:29We criticize often. Spend 5 minutes on the Internet
- 4:34and you will see that our culture is so accustomed to
- 4:37criticizing other people. We get in the habit of having
- 4:40opinions about what other people are doing when we're not even in
- 4:43the arena, when we've never even come close to doing that level
- 4:47of work that somebody might have been doing.
- 4:49But yet we still feel that we have the right to have an
- 4:53opinion and criticize. We gossip endlessly as a
- 4:57culture. We do.
- 4:58I mean, it's something, it's part of human nature, but it's
- 5:02very much problem energy. It's a powerless behavior.
- 5:06We tend to react emotionally as humans.
- 5:10I think being emotional is an asset as a human.
- 5:14But to be reactive and not self regulate emotions, that can be
- 5:18very problematic. We don't follow through.
- 5:21As I said, we make excuses for that.
- 5:24And then we wonder why we don't feel free.
- 5:28All of those behaviors, Gossiping, criticizing, blaming,
- 5:31judging, bitching, moaning. And then we sit here and we
- 5:34wonder why we don't feel freedom in our life.
- 5:37Why we don't feel happy or appreciation or gratitude or
- 5:41joy. Why our marriages feel strained,
- 5:45why our teams don't trust us, why our success feels hollow.
- 5:49It's not that we have a problem with our strategy.
- 5:52It's not that we're lacking skills or intelligence or
- 5:55capability. It's an ownership problem.
- 5:59We are not taking ownership of the power that we hold and the
- 6:04impact that we have. Let me pause here for a second.
- 6:10If you're listening and thinking I'm capable of more or this is
- 6:14the level I want to operate at, this is for you.
- 6:17I work privately with a small number of high performing
- 6:20leaders who are ready to elevate how they show up in their
- 6:23business and in their lives. This isn't motivational
- 6:26coaching, it's precision work. We refine your energy,
- 6:30strengthen your ownership, and eliminate inconsistency so your
- 6:33impact becomes undeniable. If you're ready for that level
- 6:37of growth, book a private call through the link in the show
- 6:40notes. We'll see if it's a fit.
- 6:42All right, back to the episode. And a lot of this starts with
- 6:50self-awareness because frankly, you can't own what you can't
- 6:55see. And to be self aware means that
- 6:59you're familiar with the stories that you're telling yourself
- 7:02right now, with the patterns that you keep repeating, with
- 7:06the way that you react instead of choose in your day.
- 7:10It means that you have knowledge of that, that you can see it
- 7:12when it happens. This type of awareness actually
- 7:16requires quite a bit of courage, in my opinion, because it makes
- 7:21us uncomfortable to look at things that openly, to look at
- 7:25it with that clear of eyes and not make excuses and not go into
- 7:31criticizing, blaming, judging mode, that takes a lot of
- 7:35courage. It's not always fun to look at
- 7:38our blind spots. It's not always fun to
- 7:40acknowledge God. The story I'm telling right now
- 7:42is really negative in in fact, I'm probably the one standing in
- 7:46the way of my own success because of the patterns that I
- 7:49keep repeating or the way that I keep reacting.
- 7:53That takes courage. It takes humility.
- 7:55It does. I'm going to be the first one to
- 7:57say it. It's not always comfortable, but
- 8:00what it is is a gateway to the things that we want on the other
- 8:06side. It's the gateway to things like
- 8:08freedom and joy and peace and less stress.
- 8:14It truly is the gateway to really beautiful experiences
- 8:18that we want. When I was thinking about all of
- 8:21this years ago and I started to think about it through the lens
- 8:25of impact, it became really clear to me that none of this is
- 8:31a destination that we arrive at. I don't think we ever get to the
- 8:34place in our life where we are completely self aware and 100%
- 8:39self regulated and fully taking radical ownership of everything
- 8:43in our life. I don't I don't know that that's
- 8:46possible. But to be in the practice of it,
- 8:49to be sort of existing in that space, more often than not,
- 8:54that's kind of what I'm thinking about when I say to be impact
- 8:58ready. It's a state of being, not a
- 9:01destination. It's the decision that we make
- 9:05that says ownership isn't an optional thing anymore.
- 9:08It's just something that I do. It's something I take on.
- 9:12And ownership doesn't mean blame.
- 9:14It doesn't mean accepting fault for everything.
- 9:16It doesn't mean that the things that happened in our childhood
- 9:20were our fault or that we should just accept them and move on.
- 9:23It doesn't mean that we are taking ownership of the economy
- 9:27or the political happenings or what's happening in the larger
- 9:30world. It means that we take ownership
- 9:33of our energy, of our reactions, of our presence.
- 9:38It's everything that we can control in our own sphere that
- 9:42is within us, especially when we're under pressure.
- 9:46Because when somebody lives this way, everything changes.
- 9:50Their life gets cleaner, their leadership gets steadier, their
- 9:53relationships get stronger, they have more opportunities.
- 9:57They start to feel all the things that they've been
- 9:59striving to feel and trying to get to through achievement and
- 10:05grinding and hustling. Like I said, it's not always
- 10:09about more strategy. Sometimes it's just about more
- 10:11ownership. I talked to a lot of people.
- 10:15I'm the person who will talk to anybody and any situation that
- 10:19we're in. It's very annoying to my wife.
- 10:21She told me that I'm not allowed to make any more friends at the
- 10:23airport. But through those conversations,
- 10:28I've learned that a lot of people want the same things.
- 10:31We want peace. We all want freedom.
- 10:35I don't know anybody who doesn't want freedom.
- 10:37We all say that we want joy, but many of us live lives that don't
- 10:42reflect, that we behave in ways that don't reflect what we
- 10:46really want. But as I witnessed people doing
- 10:50the work and practicing this idea of being impact ready and
- 10:53getting into that state of being, I've realized that all of
- 10:56that stuff that we want, it lives on the other side of
- 11:00radical ownership of self-awareness, of self
- 11:03regulation. It lives on the other side of
- 11:05being impact ready. And that's why I don't think
- 11:08that any of this is a destination.
- 11:11It's not just some program that you go through.
- 11:14It's a standard. It's a way of living in a way of
- 11:17being that is so powerful and so beyond what many people set the
- 11:23bar at. It's a place where powerful
- 11:26people don't get to behave powerlessly anymore.
- 11:30And the question becomes really simple, are you showing up in a
- 11:33way that reflects your power? So my challenge to you for the
- 11:38rest of this week and into the weekend is twofold.
- 11:41The first part is asking the question, am I giving my power
- 11:44away by behaving powerlessly? Am I getting to those problem
- 11:48energy behaviors? The gossiping, the criticizing,
- 11:51the judging, the blaming, making excuses?
- 11:54Am IA powerful person who's living powerlessly?
- 11:58And then the second part is how can I show up in a way this week
- 12:03that reflects my actual power? What can I do to show that I'm
- 12:07taking ownership in my life and that I'm raising the bar on my
- 12:12own standards and my own way of being?
- 12:15If you can answer those two questions, I think that alone
- 12:18will create a powerful intention and start to shape the rooms
- 12:22differently that you walk into. This is something that I have to
- 12:27work on every single day. It's something that I fail at
- 12:30often and that I need to keep at the top of my mind because like
- 12:35breathing, we lose our awareness of it.
- 12:38And so this episode is just to bring it all back up to
- 12:41awareness so you can remember and be thoughtful about how
- 12:46you're moving around in the world.
- 12:47I'm going to do the same this week and throughout this
- 12:49weekend, and I hope this serves you.
- 12:52I'm glad you're here. Thank you for listening, and as
- 12:55always, team, thank you for being ready to Impact.
- 12:58Thanks for listening to Impact Ready.
- 13:00I hope today's episode inspired you to own your impact and
- 13:03recognize that you are powerful. By elevating our energy and
- 13:07awareness, we can create exponential change in this life.
- 13:11If you enjoyed today's insights, share them with a friend and
- 13:13subscribe to the show for more. I truly appreciate you.
- 13:16Thanks again for being here.
