Transcript
- 0:00This is Shorn from short Stack and you are speaking with Heavy mag I'm speaking
- 0:04with Heavy mage job. So shaw Stack will and truly have a full calendar
- 0:08this year, and you're about to hit the road on your regional Ish tour
- 0:13and any spots that you guys haven't toured before, and we are most looking
- 0:16forward to hitting up most of it. We haven't been to like a lot
- 0:20of them, like Townsville and Kansas stuff, we haven't been there in over
- 0:24ten years. But like Taglan think it is, there's a wipe home and
- 0:29pronounce some of the cities, but there's like Puraka in Adelaide, never been
- 0:34there, and then the Western Australian ones. I don't think we've been to
- 0:37those specific ones either, so it's yeah, it's pretty cool. Yeah awesome.
- 0:43Where are you most looking forward to playing? We have it. We
- 0:47playing show in Penrith years ago and we're playing back there again at the Panthers.
- 0:54It's a pretty cool venue and there's like a skydiving thing there thoughts like
- 0:58indoor skydiving. That's pretty cool, awesome, So after a show Shini shindigs.
- 1:03Yeah, yeah, A couple of you guys are also on the bill
- 1:08for Good Things twenty twenty three. How does it feel to be on such
- 1:12an amazing lineup representing the Aussie music? Clearly we are representing the heavier side
- 1:18of things, which is good. It's good to see heavy music finally getting
- 1:21the representation that deserves. No, it's it's yeah, we're speaking of that
- 1:26before. It's going to be heat of fun. We're like, yeah,
- 1:30really looking forward to it. It's our last one, last like set of
- 1:32shows for ages. I don't think we got anything really planned after that,
- 1:34so yeah, it's always fun to sort of anything to with a bang.
- 1:38Yeh? Is there anyone on there that you're really looking forward to playing with?
- 1:42Or surprise that they're on there and you get to share the stage for
- 1:45them all that boy like bucket list material fast like when we were like teenagers
- 1:51who won't seeing them, And I've seen them so many times, so it's
- 1:53pretty cool to like have them their limp biscuits too, Like that's pretty sick.
- 1:57Yeah, Like I didn't think I would ever see Olympus in my life,
- 2:00but it alone be like playing the festival with them, So yeah,
- 2:04I hope looking forward to seeing us too. I'm sure they're so excited to
- 2:09see can't wait. So you guys have served up that pop punk realist with
- 2:16your new release Shotgun Wedding. It's got all subtle notes to all your influencers
- 2:21in the music industry. Is this a taste of what's to come from short
- 2:23Stack or what's on the horizon from you? Yeah? Pretty much. We're
- 2:29just making music. It's really fun to play. I think another way of
- 2:31like playing a bit more live that someone's really written as like a fun life
- 2:37song to play. I think because it's like super easy to play. So
- 2:39yeah, the last album was pretty hard because we like did it on the
- 2:43studio, whereas this one. This time around, we're like, I just
- 2:45trying to hit the easy music. So yeah, it's like the easier,
- 2:49the better for us. Better. Yeah, And what's in the work for
- 2:53you guys? Are you wanting to release an album or are you just kind
- 2:55of going to do single releases and do the tours and then see how that
- 2:59kind of pairs. Yeah. I have no real desire to do another album
- 3:04again, I think just because like we sort of go in the studio and
- 3:07do like a song for a whole bunch of the times, whereas an album,
- 3:09I feel like I feel we approach an album kind of differently to a
- 3:13lot of other bands. We usually are like, oh, we've got a
- 3:15couple of singles and we're just like have fun with it, whereas now we
- 3:20just keep on, you know, sort of releasing singles, which is good,
- 3:23kind of pushing this to make the songs as best they can be rather
- 3:25than being like we really need like a track nine, Like fuck, let's
- 3:30just do some acoustic you know, like a sort of makes it the best
- 3:32it can be. Yeah, true, and that relaxed approach normally brings out
- 3:36the best music as well. It kind of like hate what about Yeah,
- 3:39definitely no pressure, which is sick. Yeah, it gives you that that
- 3:44creative space instead of just pressure we need to do this by this deadline and
- 3:47get it out now exactly. And albums are so expensive and record levels don't
- 3:53like making them. Yeah, fair enough to So what does your setlist look
- 3:58like these days? Do you kind of change it depending on show to show
- 4:01and who the audience is going to be, or how do you guys attack
- 4:03that A little bit of it, Like we've got the staples, We've obviously
- 4:08got to play like planets and stuff like that, but The thing which is
- 4:12kind of cool to us is like people seem to like the new stuff just
- 4:15as much because I like the old stuff, I guess, which is surprising
- 4:16to us because we're like, you know, when I go see fans that
- 4:21I like, I am like, if I go see Blink they just played
- 4:25like, dude wrench, I'd be like, fucking sweet, bit like I
- 4:28don't care, just play too drench. But yeah, we're surprised by like,
- 4:31like there's some people that don't really like us from like a new album,
- 4:34which is each fucking weird because we play like Shimmy and Gogo and all
- 4:39these songs that like, you know, people sort of know us for and
- 4:42they like don't get into it as much as some of the new ones.
- 4:44So it's really that's kind of cool. That's really cool. Do you find
- 4:46it's the same kind of your fans from ten, fifteen years ago or who's
- 4:50showing up? Yeah, some of them, definitely. Definitely there's a lot
- 4:55more dudes now. Like when I first came out, it was pretty much
- 5:00like all chicks, but now there's like a heap of does, which is
- 5:02which is pretty cool. Yeah, I remember all my mates in high school
- 5:05were psycho a for you guys, Yeah, it'd be freaking out how lucky.
- 5:12How lucky I guess which asshole was like for my interviews. Having the
- 5:20opportunity now to kind of do a full circle moment and share the music world
- 5:25with your kids, how has it been for you? Like it would be
- 5:27fucking miles away from MySpace days and touring back then crazy, it was like
- 5:31a different life, you know what I mean, Like it really wasn't that
- 5:34long ago. It was only like ten or three years ago. So yeah,
- 5:38but obviously their life minas pretty for us, and we're just getting our
- 5:43kids to come. That was like a huge thing for us of like we
- 5:46could have ended it there, and then you know, like we're we're definitely
- 5:49not. We're very We're very aware of how fortunate we are to be able
- 5:55to be doing us for as long as we are, because there's a lot
- 5:57of bands that, you know, don't get to be that lucky. We
- 6:00haven't figured out why people still want to come and see us yet. We
- 6:01never figured out why they wanted to see us like in the first place,
- 6:04so we're very grateful for it. So that kind of rolls into your comeback
- 6:11tour. I was curious how it felt like when you guys were like,
- 6:13all right, let's fire it up again, let's go, and then you
- 6:15sell out, Like it must have been a freaking crazy, amazing feeling to
- 6:18know that people were just waiting for you to come back. Yeah, it
- 6:23was. It was very humbling, and we didn't know, like, we
- 6:25didn't know if anyone would come. We'd be stoked, like two hundred people
- 6:28there, you know when we got to like we just got put the songs
- 6:30again and then you know, then just go back to not doing it anymore.
- 6:34So yeah, it was very Yeah, it was like the best surprise.
- 6:41That's a good surprise to have. It would suck to fire it back
- 6:44out and then no one shows up. So we got Halloween coming up.
- 6:56Are you blowys going to fire up and revive the hair and the eyeliner and
- 7:00give the appiece of the Masses apiece the Masses? Yeah? Yeah, maybe
- 7:06Andy's got pretty long hair. I'm very boring these days, a little conservative
- 7:11bain, a bit of private school by hair cut. But yeah, Andy's
- 7:15very is the rock and roll. But yeah, that's that's apparently he's camp.
- 7:18Yeah that's his camp. He can keep it. Yeah, hell yeah,
- 7:24bro, you guys have released Stack as a new Black on vinyl.
- 7:30Get me back to two thousand and nine. Did it absolutely blow your fucking
- 7:33socks off that it just went straight to number one on the Aria of Charts
- 7:35and just went bang. Yeah, it was pretty crazy. Like one or
- 7:40two of the songs on there I wrote in like high school, which is
- 7:43like fucking mental, So like, yeah, we we had such minimal expectations
- 7:48for it, and then yeah, it's sort of like set up everything that
- 7:53we've kind of done since, so it always holds a very special purpose in
- 7:57our heart. And like you know, we still play the songs from it
- 8:00now, like Spaceway and stuff like that. So yeah, it's fun.
- 8:03It was insane. We we didn't think. We didn't think it would happened
- 8:07for sure. We didn't think anything. A top ten, Yeah, was
- 8:11number of one. Fuck, that's a been pretty ship week. There was
- 8:18no like Metallica album or something. You look back, Oh that's golden.
- 8:26Yeah. So I've seen you guys played Unified three, Yeah, which one
- 8:35of your songs actually absolutely just pops. Like you know obviously when you when
- 8:37you start first called, the crowd just goes fucking nuts. What was the
- 8:41biggest song. I think everyone knows everyone knows Planets, I think, so
- 8:45that's why it's like it's definitely the most popular songs. That one always goes
- 8:48down really well. But yeah, when we play we play Spaceway last,
- 8:52and that's always like keeps fun. It's just like pretty fast, pretty fun.
- 8:56Once again, everyone kind of knows it from in the day. So
- 9:00yeah, that's pretty sick. Yeah, that's cool if you guys sit back
- 9:03at all and like go back over your videos and just indulge and go,
- 9:07what were we doing? Yeah, so cringey. You weren't alone though.
- 9:16Everyone was doing that had the same bloody style. Yeah, that was the
- 9:18thing. It wasn't unique to us. We just looked like every other boguin
- 9:22that we knew. Yep, that's awesome. Well, everyone can catch you
- 9:28and you're coming up tours for your regionalist tour and good things at the end
- 9:31of the year, And I think where can guys go to grab some tickets?
- 9:37I think our website I should definitely know that, But our website sounds
- 9:39about right. I'm Instagram on Instagram. You're fine, I'm just just search
- 9:46short stack. You'll find the tickets. Yeah, awesome man. We'll all
