- 0:27Hello everybody. Thank you for tuning in to another episode of Pop Culture Junkie Podcast.
- 0:33My name is Shauna and I am joined by my fellow junkie Olivia who I miss dearly.
- 0:42I know. I'm excited to hear how was your housewarming party.
- 0:47Oh my god, we were all very sober. We read the Bible in a circle.
- 0:55I did not do the Jojo Siwa Karma Dance. I did not do the Wap Dance if that's what you could.
- 1:02Did you see the footage of Jojo Siwa doing poppers on stage?
- 1:08No. I think it was a Chicago Pride by coworker who lives in Chicago.
- 1:14It went to Pride and she was like, "It was insane." And it was for Jojo Siwa.
- 1:19It's so embarrassing. I saw her chugging fireball and she was like, "This is the most bad ass-fucking thing I've ever done."
- 1:27"Woo, fireball."
- 1:29Well, I'm kind of cheer for it though.
- 1:32Fireball led to the poppers. So they're having a good time.
- 1:36Are poppers seem illegal?
- 1:38Yeah, I think you can buy them at gas stations. I don't know. I don't do them.
- 1:41I've never witnessed somebody do a popper.
- 1:45Yeah, I haven't either. I just don't exist. Is this something that actually exists?
- 1:53When I think of a popper, I think of those little things where you pull and they want a bunch of confetti terms out.
- 2:00Oh, yes. What are you talking about, "Bibles" and those things?
- 2:06I just had a really innocent whole party.
- 2:10No, it was not. We were lit. But it was fun.
- 2:13I had to Google it. So poppers are a group of chemicals that people inhale to get high.
- 2:18It's like sniffing tobacco.
- 2:21Back in my day, we just huffed.
- 2:23Well, not really. I didn't do that.
- 2:24I guess it's kind of the same thing. We just rebranded it.
- 2:27So like when I'm Bridgerton, when the queen has her little spoon of tobacco that she's stored.
- 2:32That's snuff.
- 2:34At first, it's kind of like doing balls.
- 2:38She, so the real queen Charlotte had an ejection to it and ended up like dying from complications from doing that.
- 2:47Yeah, I mean, every other scene, she's like, "What is it 80 whistles out and then just do your phone?"
- 2:52Like, "I need my gossip, damn it. I am on season three."
- 2:58So like four now. Okay, spoiler.
- 3:01Spoilerers for anybody who hasn't cut up on Bridgerton.
- 3:04I watched them finally have sex. Mr. Fingerton.
- 3:08Oh my god. Mr. Fingerton.
- 3:13Okay. Now that you're at this part though, can we talk about the guys like lip flip?
- 3:19He got the lip flip and he's absolutely did something.
- 3:23It wasn't, it could, like he, he acts in his mouth, but he can't move his mouth.
- 3:28Well, I said you that snuff, chat of me.
- 3:31This is Colin for the first three episodes and he's just like duck face staring at Penelope from across the real one.
- 3:37He's just approaching. He's meowing over there.
- 3:42Yeah. He looks great.
- 3:44Like the actor obviously lost some weight and got a tan.
- 3:47And I definitely think he got a little lip flip and some talks and stuff.
- 3:50I mean, he's fine as hell.
- 3:52Yeah. He is. He's a beard.
- 3:55I feel like the beard also, like the real Luke in real life.
- 3:59Yeah. He has like a beard and it works for him and it covers up the lip thing, but he's like very fresh, he's shaving in a Regency era piece.
- 4:12So I don't know if he's there.
- 4:14The lips don't last long at all.
- 4:16I got one and I hated it.
- 4:17Like I, well, I didn't even hate it.
- 4:19I just didn't notice a difference.
- 4:20Like it didn't do anything for me.
- 4:22It looked exactly the same.
- 4:23I was just a way of the money.
- 4:25But yeah, maybe a different injector that I didn't eat it.
- 4:30So yeah, he had Shonda Rhymes injector.
- 4:34So I thought you made like she did it.
- 4:36Oh, she's a woman of many talents.
- 4:38I don't know.
- 4:39I don't know that I would trust her with it.
- 4:41I would do. I would trust her with my injection.
- 4:43You're a creative genius.
- 4:45Make me an art, you know.
- 4:47Do this. I trust you.
- 4:49I also went to the movies recently.
- 4:52I watched the ghost movie, the right here right now.
- 4:55Remember that band I made you go see with me?
- 4:58Yes, of course.
- 4:59Of course.
- 5:00So it's a concert film of them performing in Los Angeles.
- 5:03Inter spliced with their lore from the band.
- 5:07All of them.
- 5:08So it's this convoluted story about a dead hope who's a ghost.
- 5:14Satiate it.
- 5:15Of course.
- 5:16And now the singer of ghost is his son.
- 5:19And his ghost is haunting him at the show and then his mom's there.
- 5:22I don't know.
- 5:23It's really funny.
- 5:24The music's great.
- 5:25If you don't like ghost, don't see the movie though, because you're just going to be like,
- 5:30I don't know any of these songs.
- 5:32It's literally, it's a love letter to the fans.
- 5:35Okay.
- 5:36Andrew went with me and he notes their songs because I played it all the time.
- 5:40But you were like, cool.
- 5:43Doing this because I love you, sweetie.
- 5:45Yeah.
- 5:48Why is there an old dead Pope ghost haunting them?
- 5:51You just don't get it.
- 5:52Do you?
- 5:53You just don't get any questions.
- 5:55Yeah.
- 5:56That was a lot of fun.
- 5:57And besides that, I've just been watching our usual house of the dragon and the boys.
- 6:02Okay.
- 6:03So Ardith Binne and San Francisco for like five days.
- 6:07And my co-worker started to get in town on Sunday and we went out to Castro, which is the
- 6:13Gaborhood in San Francisco.
- 6:15And we really got after it.
- 6:18It's my co-worker.
- 6:19And she gets me so drunk.
- 6:22Last night we hung out.
- 6:24She got me to drink seven martinis.
- 6:26Whenever you ever seen me drink seven martinis.
- 6:28Oh, those are the like sea martinis.
- 6:29Yeah.
- 6:30But we two.
- 6:31And so it's that co-worker.
- 6:32So we started going out.
- 6:34Well, I had like a socky.
- 6:36I had tequila.
- 6:37I had ciders.
- 6:38I had you need to bring this in.
- 6:39I'm doing it back because I'm more ready to get feral with you.
- 6:42But so I ended up drinking with her all day.
- 6:47And I didn't know that's about San Francisco in the summer.
- 6:50The sun does not go down until like 9.30 here.
- 6:53It's very weird.
- 6:54It's so weird.
- 6:55And then it's also still cold.
- 6:56Yeah.
- 6:57But because of that, I like didn't realize how late it was.
- 7:00And then I got back to my hotel and was like, I've got to watch Game of Thrones.
- 7:04It's too early.
- 7:05It's definitely worth every watch for me.
- 7:08But we're going to talk a little bit about episode two.
- 7:12So if you want to skip this part, you know, just hit it a few times.
- 7:16So I was listening to Oyster's Clans and Cockles.
- 7:19It's a podcast about Game of Thrones.
- 7:22What's a co-cars?
- 7:23Oyster's Clans and Cockles.
- 7:25And Cockles.
- 7:26It's like a R.A.
- 7:27Quo.
- 7:28Like, Oyster's Clans and Cockles.
- 7:29That's a great podcast to do.
- 7:31Like recap podcast.
- 7:32But I was listening to it.
- 7:33And they were arguing about which twin they think.
- 7:37They think ended up killing themselves.
- 7:39Like, which one did you think it was?
- 7:41Was it Ray Nieris twin that ends up sacrificing himself or was it the other one?
- 7:47So was it Eric or Eric?
- 7:49The entire episode during that fight, Andrew and I were screaming, is that good Eric or bad Eric?
- 7:55Which Eric?
- 7:56So I googled if it was Eric or Eric.
- 8:00Okay.
- 8:01It says, in the end, Eric with an E is sobbing and hugging his brother who he's just run the sword through.
- 8:10And Eric with an E is on team Green team.
- 8:16Renira.
- 8:17Okay.
- 8:18Yes.
- 8:19So I didn't read it right.
- 8:20Okay.
- 8:21So he protected Renira but then killed himself because he had just killed his brother.
- 8:26Exactly.
- 8:27He had just killed his twin brother.
- 8:28That's why he said, like, I'm sorry my lady or my gray sword I've heard until myself.
- 8:32Okay.
- 8:33That's what I thought.
- 8:34But then you know, my old oyster's clams and cockles really threw a wrench in there where I was like, I don't know, they look so alike.
- 8:41They really do.
- 8:42And they're played by identical twin brothers named Luke and Elliott.
- 8:46And I feel like they could have done something for the viewers to make it a little more easy to watch.
- 8:53I really thought for a very long time until I saw the season two premiere that that was one person.
- 8:59I thought we were like Lindsey Lohan parent trappings.
- 9:02And I thought that too.
- 9:03And then I was like, no, that'd be so fucking dumb.
- 9:05Like, just get two actors who are twins, which is what they did.
- 9:09But apparently one of them has a faint scar.
- 9:13But when you're watching it and it's dark and they're in a middle of like a sword fight, you're not going to be able to tell who was like a tiny scar on their eyebrow.
- 9:21Yeah, also Rendira.
- 9:23What the hell?
- 9:24Like, why are you just frozen there?
- 9:27Yeah, she did.
- 9:28She did.
- 9:28Front, do something.
- 9:29She's just a lady.
- 9:31But she's like, no, she's a queen.
- 9:33Come on.
- 9:34I thought it was a really interesting episode where the unnaming of auto-hytower as the hand of the king, that is going to have such ripple effects.
- 9:47And given it to fucking Kristen Cole, we are calling him Krispy Cole.
- 9:52Krispy Cole.
- 9:53Krispy Cole, which of course, do Krispy Kreme, Mr. Krispy Kreme.
- 9:59So I don't know how you feel about him actually.
- 10:01I've seen like an insane amount of hate towards this man on TikTok.
- 10:05And I like, I was like, oh, like you're kind of annoying, but people hate him the most.
- 10:10I don't like this guy around on.
- 10:12I mean, the only reason that he's being such a dick is because Rendira didn't want to run away.
- 10:18Yeah.
- 10:19So like, turnips and cinnamon one.
- 10:21I almost forgot that they hooked up like when she was a teenager or whatever.
- 10:26He was her first.
- 10:27He didn't.
- 10:28No, he's holding a torch for her.
- 10:31I don't know.
- 10:32He sent Eric into an impossible situation.
- 10:36And he went up to him like, your cloak isn't white enough.
- 10:39This dude's just trying to eat some beef stew.
- 10:42Oh, I let him eat.
- 10:45He's still like the white cloak symbolizes purity.
- 10:48And I'm like, you were literally just balls deep inside of Allison.
- 10:52Yeah.
- 10:53Literally.
- 10:54Let Trele at Piawati.
- 10:57Okay.
- 10:58So he is triggering you as well.
- 11:02Yes.
- 11:03He feels guilty for being in Allison's bed while Jairus was killed.
- 11:08He's definitely taking it out by trying to like, I don't know, remedy the situation, but he's not doing anything right.
- 11:15And it's just a but her dude because he's mad that Renered didn't want him.
- 11:19So I'm mad at Krispy Kohl's too.
- 11:22Yeah.
- 11:23For sure.
- 11:24Yeah.
- 11:25I did laugh in episode one that the internet was more mad that a dog was kicked in a baby being mad at it.
- 11:33Yeah.
- 11:34Our priorities.
- 11:38Oh my god.
- 11:39But you just knew the second that they were bringing that dog with them, you're like, this isn't going to end well.
- 11:44I know.
- 11:45I was about to go to does the dog die.
- 11:47And I was like, I don't know because this episode just came out like one second ago.
- 11:51Yeah.
- 11:52But it's going to have up literally.
- 11:54Yeah.
- 11:55Like I'm watching it.
- 11:56Yes, the dog dies.
- 11:57Right.
- 11:58The dog doesn't die against kick, but it just gets in again.
- 12:00That's okay.
- 12:01I think the dog dies.
- 12:04Oh my god.
- 12:05They seem where they have the funeral and they're marching them through with the baby's body though.
- 12:10Oh my god.
- 12:11That was so exciting and do say and like the queen is obviously having a panic attack.
- 12:15Yeah.
- 12:16Well, I think she got a vision, but we just don't get to know what that is.
- 12:20She sees the things world around.
- 12:22And that shows a panic attack.
- 12:24And I'm like, that's going to be a big one.
- 12:27But that when the cart was going over that bump, that the body was going to fall off.
- 12:32And we were both like, if that head falls off of that car, I'm never watching this.
- 12:37There's like a toddler head that rolls across the street.
- 12:42I'm out.
- 12:43Yeah.
- 12:44I'm just glad that we connected it.
- 12:46I don't know.
- 12:47I'm just trying to line it.
- 12:48Try to line it.
- 12:49Todd will heads rolling down the street.
- 12:51Yeah.
- 12:52All right, P.R.I.P. to the toddler head.
- 13:01A great soundtrack can make a good movie great and it can also make a bad movie at least
- 13:07bearable of a has some good music in it.
- 13:09I'm going to talk about the best songs in film, the best films with songs, whatever you know.
- 13:15And whatever the best movie soundtracks of all time you think are.
- 13:20And I know yours because you listen to it all the time.
- 13:23But I'm excited to hear you talk about it.
- 13:25So let's talk great movie soundtracks.
- 13:29So I think that the best movie soundtrack of all time is Josie and the Pussycats.
- 13:37Yeah.
- 13:38This is a very controversial answer.
- 13:40People are even screaming.
- 13:42Someone just swirved off the road listening to this.
- 13:44Like, the best for me.
- 13:46It's just, you know, whatever.
- 13:48But to me, it's Josie and the Pussycats.
- 13:51Absolutely.
- 13:52So Josie and the Pussycats is an MTV production movie and it has all unique songs in it.
- 13:59And they're all like written for this movie and their kind of parodies.
- 14:03But we have three small words.
- 14:06Literally, it's in my safe songs.
- 14:08And then the most iconic song of all time is backdoor lover by De Shor.
- 14:13De Shor means friendship.
- 14:15De Shor means friendship.
- 14:17I have a problem and I get like really drunk.
- 14:20I force whoever I'm with to watch this movie and I'm gonna send them all the songs.
- 14:24It is watch this movie trash together at least like four times.
- 14:27Like it just doesn't get old.
- 14:30It never it's old.
- 14:31It's some of the best like music, original songs.
- 14:36And it's not just there to be there.
- 14:38It really fits the theme of the movie.
- 14:40But would we discuss doing this?
- 14:42I was like, well, Josie and the Pussycats.
- 14:44And that's it.
- 14:45So we don't talk about the whole other stuff.
- 14:47I'm like, what do you mean you have others?
- 14:49Four.
- 14:50And like I couldn't choose between them.
- 14:53So I think I'm just gonna do all four of them.
- 14:56Yeah, there you go.
- 14:57I have others.
- 14:58But that's the one.
- 14:59I think that I can agree that out of all of them that I chose, Josie and the Pussycats
- 15:04is my favorite one too.
- 15:05Yeah, there you go.
- 15:06I just took it from you before.
- 15:08It's like actual good music that is made for the film.
- 15:13And it's like the actors and actresses singing.
- 15:16It's incredible.
- 15:17Okay.
- 15:18So totally different from Josie and the Pussycats.
- 15:21One of my favorite movies, Outtracks.
- 15:23Okay.
- 15:24The movie was shit.
- 15:26The movie is laughable, but the soundtrack to Queen of the Damned Slaps.
- 15:32Okay.
- 15:33So it is Corn's Jonathan Davis.
- 15:36It's kind of, right?
- 15:39Like I was studying all of this recently for this episode.
- 15:42And I didn't realize that Corn was involved in this Outtrack.
- 15:45And that makes sense.
- 15:46And that makes sense.
- 15:47Obviously, Shawna.
- 15:48I was very young in 2002.
- 15:50I was just so weird.
- 15:51But it was just a weird bib.
- 15:54I mean, middle school.
- 15:55So I was really a baby.
- 15:57So the lead singer from Corn, Jonathan Davis, paired up with an Indian composer named
- 16:06Sean Carr, who had recently worked on the soundtrack for the last temptation of Christ in 1988.
- 16:13And they wanted it to be just spooky and goth and just new metal.
- 16:20And new metal was so cool in 2002, right?
- 16:24Yeah.
- 16:25So Corn disturbed deaf tones.
- 16:29And Jonathan Davis said about, or Davies are Davis.
- 16:32I think it's Davis.
- 16:33I'm sorry.
- 16:34I was not about making the album that I had to become a stop to the vampire from Queen of the
- 16:39Damned.
- 16:40Well, it was by Anne Rice.
- 16:42Right?
- 16:43Well, they've been at the dam.
- 16:44He's a rock star.
- 16:45Well, have you seen this movie all the way through?
- 16:48I have.
- 16:49I have.
- 16:50Yeah.
- 16:51I read the books and I wrote lyrics about being a fucking 400 year old vampire.
- 16:55And it was so fucking fun.
- 16:57Direct clothes.
- 17:00In the movie, Davis from Corn laid down the vocals that the actor who played Lestot, Stuart
- 17:06Townsend, mimicked her mouth saying to, but Jonathan Davis is labeled, gave their permission
- 17:13for his voice to appear in the film, but they did not give their permission for him to
- 17:18be on the soundtrack.
- 17:19How does that work?
- 17:20That was weird.
- 17:21Yeah.
- 17:22Yeah.
- 17:23So as a result, they had to re-record all of the songs that were from the film that he sang
- 17:27in that Lestot sang.
- 17:29And so Chester Bennington from Lincoln Park sang one of them, disturbed David Dreyman sang
- 17:34one of them to which Corn leads singer, Jonathan Davis said, oh, that fucking pissed me off.
- 17:41I was so fucking mad.
- 17:42Are you kidding me?
- 17:43Do you know how hard I worked on this?
- 17:46Okay.
- 17:47Everything out.
- 17:48I read those books.
- 17:49I read these fucking books for you.
- 17:52I did it all for you.
- 17:54I just realized.
- 17:55Right.
- 17:56It was released on 22, 2000 and 22.
- 18:01But it's 222 made an angel number.
- 18:04Hopefully something sexy.
- 18:06It means balance, harmony, and spiritual alignment.
- 18:11That could be sexy.
- 18:13Yeah.
- 18:14So the rest of us feel from Queen of the Dam, did it?
- 18:17Absolutely.
- 18:18I mean, I feel that way by the Lea.
- 18:20Okay, listen.
- 18:21Her Stuart Townsend is so fine in this movie.
- 18:22There's so lot.
- 18:23It's just a stupid movie.
- 18:25Yeah.
- 18:26But the soundtrack, amazing.
- 18:27Papa Roach is on there, disturbed.
- 18:29And then one of my favorite songs, "Deft Towns Change" and "How Supplies" is kind of synonymous
- 18:35with that movie.
- 18:36So it is an iconic soundtrack.
- 18:39So I would have to agree with you there.
- 18:41Yeah, everybody give it a listen if you're in the mood for some...
- 18:44Yeah.
- 18:45Yeah.
- 18:46It's that.
- 18:47I would say Queen of the Damned also follows in to iconic movies to watch "Wallstung"
- 18:53"Hungover" is a good one.
- 18:56It is a good one.
- 18:57So that goes in the good one-year hungover to a point that you need something not good,
- 19:03you know, twilight.
- 19:04Whoa, we should make an entire episode about...
- 19:06At least watch "Wallstung" like you're hungover.
- 19:08Wait, I may be in him seeing something where it's...
- 19:11Is it the blue tone?
- 19:12Maybe it's the comforting blue tone.
- 19:15I don't know.
- 19:16Yeah, weird.
- 19:17But yeah, so...
- 19:18Because that's twilight too.
- 19:19Yeah.
- 19:20And it's too bright when you're hungover.
- 19:22- Now, talkin' about a bad soundtrack, the doo doo doo doo,
- 19:26that goes through all of Twilight.
- 19:29- Oh my God. - What's the Twilight song?
- 19:32- "Bellas" Seam or whatever. - At the thought, yes.
- 19:34- You know, I would argue that the Twilight soundtrack
- 19:37is kind of iconic though.
- 19:39There are so many songs that come out-- - At McDonald's
- 19:41- and years and then-
- 19:43- Yeah and every time you hear that,
- 19:44you just think that's that song from Twilight.
- 19:45- I'm talking about the piano.
- 19:47- No thing.
- 19:49- The one that's definitely, I think it's called "Bellas" theme.
- 19:52- Yeah, yeah.
- 19:53- "Bellas" - "Bellas"
- 19:54- "Bellas" - "Bellas"
- 19:55- "Bellas"
- 19:56- "Bellas"
- 19:57- I know we had an indie budget for the first one,
- 20:01but like, I think we kinda got in like a little bit back.
- 20:05- A little bit on our hands.
- 20:06- Listen, we don't care more on that soundtrack though.
- 20:09Like, there was a good stuff about that.
- 20:11- I guess, I guess, but you know,
- 20:13- Maybe that's just the score.
- 20:15- The score of the film.
- 20:16- The score of the film, terrible.
- 20:18- Terrible.
- 20:21- No, you wanna talk about a movie whose soundtrack
- 20:24I owned for years, wore that thing into the crowd.
- 20:29- The Shrek soundtrack.
- 20:30- Oh my God.
- 20:32- The Shrek soundtrack.
- 20:33- I'm not unique anymore.
- 20:34- Is that anyone else on it besides Smash,
- 20:36"Mouth, Rest, and Peace"?
- 20:38- RIP, yeah.
- 20:39So of course, it starts with all stars.
- 20:41We have on the road again, stay home.
- 20:45You belong to me.
- 20:47Bad reputation.
- 20:49- Really?
- 20:50- Yeah, I need to.
- 20:51- Like, say in the first movie, hold on.
- 20:53No, it's a different one.
- 20:55So, and then the Shrek 2 one is probably even more iconic.
- 21:00Accidentally in love, but by counting crows,
- 21:03holding out for a hero, changes as lovers go funky town.
- 21:08I'm on my way.
- 21:12- It's slams.
- 21:13- The slams of, literally Shrek 2
- 21:15is some of the best cinema in town, baby.
- 21:20- Absolutely, that's a lot of quality, dad rock right there.
- 21:24- Oh, live in the Vida Loca.
- 21:26- Also, oh.
- 21:27- Was that even in the movie?
- 21:29I remember accidentally in love.
- 21:30If you offered me counting crows tickets right now,
- 21:33absolutely, 100% let's go.
- 21:35I love that.
- 21:36- Yeah.
- 21:37- I see no problems with any of these.
- 21:40- Okay, so on to my next one, that I own, well,
- 21:43you know what, I didn't own this one,
- 21:44but my friend Heather did, and we listened to it
- 21:46all the time in her bedroom.
- 21:48My first CD ever was the Titanic soundtrack.
- 21:52- Oh, also good.
- 21:53My mom loved that shit.
- 21:54- Right, it's just a lot of instrumental,
- 21:58but they're all very iconic.
- 21:59And then obviously Celine Dion, my heart will go on.
- 22:01It's like the last song on the album.
- 22:04The one that I was talking about, though,
- 22:06is the Moulin Rouge soundtrack.
- 22:09Music from Baz Lerman's film.
- 22:12- That is tiered with just in the pussycaps in my mind.
- 22:16- Yes, so good.
- 22:18Okay, so on that soundtrack, they have,
- 22:21we keep saying soundtrack, or is it just me?
- 22:24Soundtrack.
- 22:25- Soundtrack. - I think it's just you.
- 22:26- Soundtrack.
- 22:28- You were saying soundtracks.
- 22:30Like soundtracks.
- 22:32Like what, yeah, you're putting like a cheese.
- 22:34- On the best track.
- 22:36- Oh, weird.
- 22:38- Laser.
- 22:40- It was a laser.
- 22:42- Okay.
- 22:42- On this soundtrack,
- 22:46without nature boy performed by David Bowie.
- 22:50And then Lady Marmalade, iconic Christina Aguilara,
- 22:53Lil Kim, and...
- 22:54- That's an original song, a original song
- 22:57for the movie.
- 22:59- Lady Marmalade is a Patie Lebel song.
- 23:01- No, surely. - Yeah, that song.
- 23:03- No, yeah, but they add the rap onto it.
- 23:05- Oh, yeah, absolutely.
- 23:06- Patie Lebel did rap.
- 23:07I bet she would have been good at it if she tried, though.
- 23:09You right, you right.
- 23:10Because we can, by Fat Boy Slim,
- 23:13I think that's that one, right?
- 23:14I love the sparkling diamonds performed by Nicole Kidman,
- 23:18who did a great job singing in this movie.
- 23:20"Rhythm of the Night, Your Song,"
- 23:23performed by you and Mukrakar.
- 23:25One day I'll fly away.
- 23:27"Children of the Revolution,"
- 23:28the elephant love medley, oh my God.
- 23:31The elephant love medley is iconic.
- 23:35Did you see that recent SNL sketch with Ariana Grande
- 23:38and Bowen, who they made fun of?
- 23:41- Yes.
- 23:42- Oh my God.
- 23:43I was dying during that.
- 23:45- Did you, okay, Bowen actually got like a message from him
- 23:49that the creator, no, from the--
- 23:51- From the creator of this?
- 23:53- Yeah, from Baz Lerman.
- 23:54And he was like, I love through what you did.
- 23:57And he was like, I didn't know how to respond.
- 23:59So I just said nothing.
- 24:00And now it's been too long.
- 24:02So he just makes a--
- 24:03Yeah, it's been like weeks and I haven't said anything.
- 24:05- That's so funny.
- 24:06- I was cracking up the entire time
- 24:08because so much time has passed since then we've been came out,
- 24:11but for them to like, they kept breaking into happy birthday
- 24:14to you.
- 24:15- It's just screaming.
- 24:16(laughs)
- 24:18So there's a million songs inside of the elephant love medley.
- 24:22But then later we have "Come What May,"
- 24:23which is Nicole and you and again,
- 24:26"El Tango Roxanne, Diamonds Again, but Sad Version."
- 24:31And this one was actually broken up into two soundtracks
- 24:35because I think there was a couple songs
- 24:37that got left off of the first one
- 24:40because they just couldn't hit the button.
- 24:41You old CD back in the day.
- 24:43So they had to have volume too.
- 24:47But amazing, amazing all around.
- 24:49Great music.
- 24:50I need a listen to that after this.
- 24:52- Yeah, I think I'm sensing a theme with all the picks
- 24:56that I'm about to do because I was about to say
- 24:59the eight mile soundtrack.
- 25:00I like it when there's original music for a movie.
- 25:03- Yeah.
- 25:04- And they bring it that turns into something.
- 25:07So I'm seeing something there.
- 25:08Now I will say a lot of these they like
- 25:10nostalgia favorites that I've named.
- 25:12But I think an amazing modern soundtrack is "Solpern."
- 25:17- "Solpern" does have a good song.
- 25:20- "Solpern" by Hale.
- 25:22- Yes, so "Solpern" I think all around
- 25:25was known for being unique.
- 25:27But this one really tickled a specific fancy for me
- 25:31because all of the songs that were popular
- 25:34when I was in college.
- 25:36And so it just was so good that I'll read some of them real quick.
- 25:41But like time to pretend.
- 25:44- Oh my God, that was my space on "Solpern"
- 25:47- "Solpern"
- 25:48- Yeah, so so good.
- 25:50And we have "Murder on the Dancefloor"
- 25:53- I call it.
- 25:53- So "Squexter" is just so happy.
- 25:56It's like a stranger things with the "Kate Bush" song.
- 26:00Like I said, time to pretend.
- 26:03We have "Low" by "Slow Rada" and "Tee Payne."
- 26:07We have "Mr. Brightside."
- 26:09We just have so many good songs.
- 26:11- Just "Molennial" and "Thone."
- 26:13- Yeah, just so many good songs.
- 26:15And then some newer songs, but a discretion is for me.
- 26:19So although our modern movie
- 26:20still kind of an nostalgic throwback for me.
- 26:24- I feel that.
- 26:25You just reminded me of the Garden State soundtrack.
- 26:28- Oh my God, that is a great one.
- 26:30- Right, okay, so we have "Pull Play," "The Shins,"
- 26:33"Garing is Creepy," "Zero 7," "New Slang" by "The Shins,"
- 26:37"All in Hey," "Fevery Corporation," "Frow Frow,"
- 26:42oh my God, "Imaging Eat."
- 26:44What an amazing "Molennial" soundtrack.
- 26:46- "Imaging Eat."
- 26:47- Okay, no, but this just scratched an itch for me.
- 26:50Do you remember whenever the hills or the OC
- 26:54would have songs and then they'd be like,
- 26:57"Top 100 Hits?"
- 26:59- Well, that's how I found say anything was the real
- 27:02and episode of "The Hills," like "Grandma"
- 27:06and they would have it at the bottom of the episode.
- 27:08- Yeah, and it would just have the name.
- 27:10Everybody found "Imaging Heaps" through "Frican the OC,"
- 27:14just iconic, but I mean, you know, it's, if you're younger,
- 27:18you don't really remember a time before this,
- 27:21but even during "My Space,"
- 27:22people were able to find new artists and things like that.
- 27:26- For that, it truly was these television shows
- 27:30and these movies, like "Bring Them In,"
- 27:32and that was how people got to know new people
- 27:35and like, other than the radio shows.
- 27:38- Exactly.
- 27:39- For such a big deal for millennials.
- 27:40I found out about the postal service through the OC.
- 27:44- Yes, yes.
- 27:45- Yeah, and MTV was really at the forefront of all
- 27:48to those bands that we now think of of, like, as iconic.
- 27:51- And that's what they were putting in.
- 27:52- And the things that they were producing,
- 27:53like, it just all around so, so good.
- 27:57- I love it.
- 27:59Another movie soundtrack that is more,
- 28:01I guess a lot of mine are pretty modern
- 28:04besides the Queen of the Damned,
- 28:05but the soundtrack for "The Black Panther,"
- 28:08the first one is so freaking good.
- 28:12Okay, so it's by this man, I'm gonna butcher his name.
- 28:17I'm sorry, "Loudwig," maybe not "Goranson."
- 28:20It has the little "O" with the two dots over it,
- 28:23so it might have a special way of saying that.
- 28:26- A treasured judgment, babe.
- 28:27- "Loudwig," we're gonna call him "Loudwig,"
- 28:29and he works with Brian Kugler and a lot of previous films.
- 28:33And so he worked on the score,
- 28:36and they wanted it to sound as African influence is possible.
- 28:40And obviously, maybe not, obviously,
- 28:44this white man named "Loudwig" did no much about African music.
- 28:48And so he traveled to Africa
- 28:50to research traditional African music,
- 28:53and went on tour with a single Lee's musician named Baba Mall
- 28:57and reported a lot of different music with Baba
- 29:00and really just learned about how to make this
- 29:02as true to African style music as possible,
- 29:05especially because in "Black Panther,"
- 29:08the society they live in hasn't been colonized.
- 29:11And so they're not gonna have a lot of influences
- 29:14from white colonizers in their music.
- 29:18It is truly African music.
- 29:20And then also on the soundtrack,
- 29:22there is a lot of original songs by Kendrick Lamar.
- 29:25We're a Kendrick house over here.
- 29:27(laughing)
- 29:28- We did not pick "Drick" in the divorce.
- 29:30- We did not.
- 29:32So the songs that Kendrick Lamar recorded a release
- 29:35for this soundtrack are so good.
- 29:39All the stars, King's dead, and pray for me.
- 29:43So these are all the Kendrick Lamar singles as well.
- 29:46And they all did really well on charts.
- 29:49And I have all of these songs in all of my like
- 29:51party playlists. - Yeah, they're so good.
- 29:54So Kendrick Lamar won a Grammy for one of his songs
- 29:58that he wrote for the soundtrack,
- 29:59but then they did win an Oscar for Best Score
- 30:02as well that year.
- 30:03Yep, yep.
- 30:04And it's just all of the soundtrack.
- 30:07- So they've been going to Rouge.
- 30:08- Yeah, that's right.
- 30:10That's right.
- 30:11Okay, let me take that back.
- 30:12He won a Grammy for King's Dead.
- 30:15Yes.
- 30:16So yes, he did wait for a song or a Grammy for one of his songs,
- 30:19but amazing soundtrack.
- 30:21I love it. - But, yep.
- 30:22- Yeah, I think another really good one.
- 30:25I'm thinking of more of it.
- 30:28- I do too.
- 30:29I do too.
- 30:30- Not to up.
- 30:31- Really?
- 30:32- Not to up has such a good one.
- 30:33I'll read you some of them.
- 30:34- Give me a little rundown.
- 30:35- No, we have All Night by the Marley Sons.
- 30:38We have Smile by Lily Allen.
- 30:40We have Shemishimi YAH by Whole Dirty Bastard.
- 30:43- Oh my God.
- 30:44- I'm thinking of the movie too.
- 30:45- Yeah, by Sublime.
- 30:47We have Swing.
- 30:48We have Clumsy by Fergie.
- 30:51Oh my God.
- 30:52- So many.
- 30:53It's great.
- 30:54- That is a good.
- 30:55- Okay.
- 30:56- Yeah.
- 30:57The Knocked Up one is great.
- 30:58And just good movies.
- 30:59On the note of like scores, of course,
- 31:03jaws.
- 31:04- That's amazing.
- 31:05- I think it is really, really amazing is Kill Bill.
- 31:10Both of those scores are so good.
- 31:12- I like really add to the movie and yeah,
- 31:15it's a special type of art to be able to add emotion
- 31:18because if you're in the music,
- 31:21you really would not be able to feel the same level
- 31:24of emotion or it would be like weird.
- 31:27- They use the music in the scores
- 31:29to influence how you feel in certain scenes too.
- 31:32Should I be laughing uncomfortably at this
- 31:34or is this legitimately sad or what kind of pathos
- 31:38am I gonna have indicated by the music going
- 31:40on the background, but that's Star Wars too.
- 31:43In Lord of the Rings and all of that stuff is just so epic.
- 31:47Those epic soundtracks are incredible.
- 31:49- Well, I think about that.
- 31:50Had you know on,
- 31:51took talk where they have the spooky videos
- 31:54and it's in the background.
- 31:55Like I said,
- 31:56but I'm like, that is literally like the same thing.
- 31:59It's like scoring a video otherwise it's just like,
- 32:01you're talking to a camera,
- 32:02but you add that or you add like the exact--
- 32:04- Exactly.
- 32:04- So everyone knows this video is gonna be silly.
- 32:08- Yeah.
- 32:09- This is funny.
- 32:10I'm making it so funny.
- 32:11- This is so funny, man.
- 32:12- Yeah.
- 32:13- My last album I'll mention is from a movie
- 32:16that I loved,
- 32:18I know it got critically panned by a bunch of men
- 32:22who hate women, so.
- 32:23The movie is "Bert's a Prey"
- 32:26and the fabulous emancipation of one Harley Quinn.
- 32:31I loved this movie, but I love the soundtrack even more.
- 32:36There are songs by Megan D. Stallion on there.
- 32:39Okay, so "Doja Cat" opens us up with "Boss Bitch"
- 32:43and then there's a song called "So Sick Whip Cream"
- 32:46and then "Diamonds" by Megan D'Astallion and Normani.
- 32:50And then there's a song by "Soedie."
- 32:53There's a Halsey song on there.
- 32:55The entire soundtrack is just like a girl power.
- 32:59Let's party and break up with our boyfriend.
- 33:01- And Margot Robbie, we trust, honestly.
- 33:04- Yeah, and the Barbie soundtrack.
- 33:06The Barbie soundtrack is so fun.
- 33:08- Yeah, also the Greta Girl would hand chose all those.
- 33:12And my favorite song from that one,
- 33:14when we did the episode was "Charlie X-Ex"
- 33:16and she's really having a moment right now.
- 33:18- Oh, and she...
- 33:19- It's nothing to know.
- 33:20It's a brat Barbie girl's home there.
- 33:23- Not gonna be care for it.
- 33:25- Man, now this makes me just wanna lay on my couch
- 33:28and listen to music all night now,
- 33:29which might be what I do.
- 33:31- Yeah, I wanna play the songs a little bit.
- 33:33- Ooh, you need to check up on the...
- 33:34- You could listen to the soundtrack
- 33:36and then build the home and characters of the movie.
- 33:40- Ooh.
- 33:41- And then you're like making your own movie with the score.
- 33:45- I should make the little show
- 33:47"Seen the Tussy Cat Girl."
- 33:49- Oh my God, how have you not?
- 33:50Can you make that? - I know that's insane.
- 33:51- Can you move them into Jessica and I's home with Lady Gaga?
- 33:56- Yeah, there's room.
- 33:59There's probably room.
- 33:59I think I have Heather living with you guys.
- 34:01- We do too. - Yeah.
- 34:02- Yeah.
- 34:03- But they could move in.
- 34:04I made the spice girls and I made all of them.
- 34:06- It's an amazing girl.
- 34:08- And I made Adam's family and the Buffy cast.
- 34:11I have a problem.
- 34:13- Yeah, no, those are fun.
- 34:15I think there's a few ways to play it.
- 34:18Like some people love the home part of it.
- 34:20Some people like the character building.
- 34:22- Ooh, yeah.
- 34:23- I don't know what I am.
- 34:24I need to go back and do it.
- 34:26- I feel like building the homes is like so much work
- 34:29for me where I'm like,
- 34:30"I wanna go make them do "Delinquent Things."
- 34:32- I like them making them do "Delinquent Things."
- 34:34I like making them have their own like drug empires
- 34:37and grow like a bunch of weed and mushrooms in the backyard.
- 34:39That's my favorite thing.
- 34:40- Yeah.
- 34:41- Be like Keri Throneweed.
- 34:42Okay, we could go on and on.
- 34:43But anyway.
- 34:45- Yeah.
- 34:46- Whoa, we'll have to make a new soundtrack
- 34:48for your drug empires.
- 34:49- For the Sims.
- 34:50- All right.
- 34:51So I guess we really rocked this episode, didn't we?
