- 0:03Speaker 1: One week left for the preseason, and as we have
- 0:07Speaker 1: one week left for the preseason, so what is your
- 0:09Speaker 1: biggest point of concern as the team heads into the
- 0:12Speaker 1: regular season.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Banged up, big guys on both sides of the line.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Yeah, that, I'm not sure there's any of the direction
- 0:19Speaker 3: to go with that. Welcome in.
- 0:39Speaker 1: We're back in Jackson and Nannie Stevens here for Jags
- 0:41Speaker 1: A M. Brian Sexton, John Osier. After our beautiful week
- 0:44Speaker 1: in Michigan, We're back in the lovely state of Florida
- 0:46Speaker 1: as we get ready to wrap up this first section
- 0:49Speaker 1: or last section I should say, of training camp and
- 0:51Speaker 1: then we head into the regular season. So we got
- 0:53Speaker 1: to see some game action this week, if you want
- 0:56Speaker 1: to call it that. More action probably in those joint practices.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Yeah, although I will say this, you know, calling the
- 1:01Speaker 2: game on television was it was pretty good. I mean,
- 1:04Speaker 2: relatively speaking, a preseason game featuring nothing but twos, threes
- 1:09Speaker 2: and some fours can generally be easily predicted to be
- 1:14Speaker 2: less than stellar. But it was an entertaining game and
- 1:17Speaker 2: we saw some young guys do some things. I mean,
- 1:20Speaker 2: on the first snap of the game, calevon Chase on
- 1:21Speaker 2: who we've been talking about. We got to see something. Well,
- 1:24Speaker 2: we saw the pass rush right that set up Jeremiah
- 1:26Speaker 2: led better for the sack, should have got the sack himself.
- 1:29Speaker 2: But there were moments like that Tim Jones over the
- 1:31Speaker 2: shoulder catch. We'll talk about all of them, probably over
- 1:33Speaker 2: the course of the next half hour, but it was
- 1:35Speaker 2: pretty entertaining for a preseason game.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think the theme of this show
- 1:41Speaker 3: will be injuries. The second part of the theme, which
- 1:45Speaker 3: I think is a different theme the last year, is depth.
- 1:47Speaker 3: It looks like, at least in the short term, the
- 1:50Speaker 3: Jaguars have the depth to withstand this injury issue were
- 1:53Speaker 3: talking about. That's interesting.
- 1:56Speaker 1: That's our big thing, Number one. We are going to
- 1:57Speaker 1: discuss those injuries best laid plans. We came into the
- 2:00Speaker 1: season thinking, you know, this team was very deep in
- 2:03Speaker 1: certain sections of the roster wide receiver, offensive line, and
- 2:06Speaker 1: specifically the offensive line. Suffered several injuries, mostly to the
- 2:10Speaker 1: backups that were playing in the game in preseason Game two.
- 2:13Speaker 1: But there's some concern there, right, we have, you know,
- 2:17Speaker 1: a handful of names. Is there a specific injury that
- 2:20Speaker 1: concerns you the most? Friend?
- 2:22Speaker 2: Oh, wow, that's a good one, probably the shoulder of
- 2:27Speaker 2: Anton Harrison. Although the word is that it's an injury
- 2:31Speaker 2: that you play with. It's more pain management through the
- 2:34Speaker 2: course of the year. But because Cam is going to
- 2:37Speaker 2: be down for four games, Walker Little can't slide over
- 2:41Speaker 2: and step in and play right tackle. And I guess
- 2:43Speaker 2: if you wanted to take that a step further, Josh Wells,
- 2:46Speaker 2: because Josh Wells was going to be that veteran third
- 2:48Speaker 2: swing tackle in camp in case someone get gets banged
- 2:51Speaker 2: up while Cam is down early in the season, and
- 2:54Speaker 2: now you don't have him, So Harrison first, Well second.
- 2:59Speaker 3: Yeah, those are theo And if it stops now and
- 3:02Speaker 3: they sort of get this thing settled, I think they're okay.
- 3:07Speaker 3: I don't have a feel whether Harrison will play this week.
- 3:10Speaker 3: I wondered last week if they might not. You know,
- 3:13Speaker 3: as much as you would love to have him get
- 3:17Speaker 3: one more half of reps, you wonder I don't know
- 3:21Speaker 3: the nature the shoulder injury. You know enough that if
- 3:23Speaker 3: they didn't have him in contact for three weeks if
- 3:27Speaker 3: that would help significantly. Because every time he's been on
- 3:30Speaker 3: the field so far, he's impressed. So you get the
- 3:34Speaker 3: idea that they might be said, Okay, well, let's just
- 3:36Speaker 3: assume that he's going to continue to impress. He'll be
- 3:38Speaker 3: a rookie. But is the benefit of playing him for
- 3:42Speaker 3: twelve snaps on Saturday outweigh maybe getting him rest until
- 3:48Speaker 3: what September seventh, you know, whenever the opener is. In
- 3:53Speaker 3: that sense, I would put Josh Well's at the top.
- 3:55Speaker 3: The other guys who got injured are mainly Depth. Didn't
- 4:00Speaker 3: want to see Cooper Hodges get hurt, though, but I
- 4:02Speaker 3: don't think he I don't think the team plans for
- 4:04Speaker 3: him to be a big factor in September. So if
- 4:07Speaker 3: he can get back by October and be Depth, I
- 4:09Speaker 3: think you're okay there. I think Wells is the one
- 4:11Speaker 3: that really started was a gut punch, because you felt
- 4:15Speaker 3: almost like, well, that's something I don't have to worry about.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Whatever reps. He's ten years, he's going to be what
- 4:20Speaker 3: he is, and then all of a sudden he's limping
- 4:21Speaker 3: around and that's not good.
- 4:22Speaker 2: He was an important part of it. And then, of
- 4:24Speaker 2: course the one that everyone's wondering about, the statement that
- 4:26Speaker 2: was really yesterday by the Jaguars is Devon Hamilton. The
- 4:28Speaker 2: coach addressed it this morning they just don't know, right,
- 4:31Speaker 2: and so that's one that we're just gonna have to
- 4:33Speaker 2: kind of wait and watch.
- 4:34Speaker 3: We were talking offensive line. To me, that's the biggest
- 4:38Speaker 3: one so far because you feel like you have a
- 4:42Speaker 3: general idea of Harrison. You don't know with Hamilton, and
- 4:45Speaker 3: he's really important to the defensive.
- 4:46Speaker 2: And he was really good in Dallas. So you hope
- 4:48Speaker 2: for that one too.
- 4:49Speaker 1: A list off some of the details for our viewers.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Just because Devon Hamilton, we've heard is a back injury.
- 4:53Speaker 1: It was non football related, so they're not going to
- 4:56Speaker 1: comment on that any further until he's back in the
- 4:58Speaker 1: building working with the team. In terms of the offensive line,
- 5:02Speaker 1: Blake Hans will be available. I think he was in.
- 5:05Speaker 1: He was They thought he was in.
- 5:06Speaker 3: He's not.
- 5:07Speaker 1: That was that came from the spot. So he'll practice.
- 5:09Speaker 1: He'll be fine. Shatley is still out dealing with his
- 5:14Speaker 1: heart issues.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Supposed to be after another week, Doug said, So that's
- 5:17Speaker 3: sort of next week we might get a better idea.
- 5:19Speaker 1: We'll get a better idea if he's going to be
- 5:20Speaker 1: back with the team. Anton Harrison dealing with that shoulder injury,
- 5:23Speaker 1: but he looked fine against Aidan Hutchinson all week last week,
- 5:25Speaker 1: and he's playing more than fine. So he's playing through
- 5:27Speaker 1: that very well. Josh Wells were hearing. I think it's
- 5:30Speaker 1: a groin injury. They don't have a timeline on that
- 5:32Speaker 1: could be out for quite some time at least from
- 5:34Speaker 1: what we heard from Doug so far. And there's definitely
- 5:36Speaker 1: some other people im missing because I know there was
- 5:38Speaker 1: a Kayler.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Brewer was concussion protocol and Antonio Johnson was a hamstring.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Yes, yes, Antonio Johnson was a hamstring. He's going to
- 5:44Speaker 1: be out for at least a couple of weeks at
- 5:46Speaker 1: least from what we've heard so far.
- 5:47Speaker 3: And then reserve offensive lineman Darryl Williams played through shoulder
- 5:51Speaker 3: already played through it so and then I think what
- 5:54Speaker 3: Doug was most optimistic about today through all that they
- 5:59Speaker 3: get Ben Bartch back this week, which that's really important.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Yeah that if no other injuries, then you basically go
- 6:06Speaker 3: the end of the season with your offensive line healthy
- 6:09Speaker 3: as you thought it would be. Since you knew by
- 6:11Speaker 3: the Cam Robinecks, you've bet I suspense you'd have Little
- 6:13Speaker 3: on the left, Anton Harrison on the right, the bars
- 6:17Speaker 3: and sheriffood Garden fort and the center. That's your starters,
- 6:20Speaker 3: and then you just sort of hold your breath until
- 6:22Speaker 3: these other guys sort of come back and you know,
- 6:24Speaker 3: provide your depth. All right.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Big thing number two is a numbers game. We're getting
- 6:28Speaker 1: down to that point where they're gonna have to cut
- 6:29Speaker 1: down this roster very soon to fifty three. And since
- 6:32Speaker 1: they only do one big cut now, it's a little
- 6:34Speaker 1: bit different than years before. We maybe weed some people
- 6:36Speaker 1: out when they make that big decision. A lot of
- 6:38Speaker 1: these skill positions there is an overload. Specifically wide receiver.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Does the math work out for everybody? And then also
- 6:44Speaker 1: running backs? How many are they going to keep? Where
- 6:46Speaker 1: do you have any inkling either of you direction of
- 6:49Speaker 1: which way they might go with that?
- 6:50Speaker 2: Here's the interesting rub to this, John is if you
- 6:54Speaker 2: have to keep an extra offensive lineman right now, what's cover?
- 6:58Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 6:58Speaker 2: Right, because of all the injuries, what does that do?
- 7:01Speaker 2: You're going to keep six receivers, but do you still
- 7:03Speaker 2: keep four tight ends? Can you keep all four running
- 7:05Speaker 2: backs that you like? Or does that offensive line issue
- 7:08Speaker 2: start to create some downflow that impacts your roster?
- 7:12Speaker 3: And then they become guys where you think, well, we
- 7:15Speaker 3: like this guy very much. Is another team going to
- 7:20Speaker 3: like him enough to bring him in over guys that
- 7:24Speaker 3: they have gotten, You know that they've developed crushes on,
- 7:27Speaker 3: so to speak, during their off season. When I say that,
- 7:31Speaker 3: I think a Garrett Prince for example, Yeah, I think
- 7:33Speaker 3: this team really really likes Garrett Prince. If it's a
- 7:36Speaker 3: numbers game, could they think, well, if we try to
- 7:40Speaker 3: get him through to the practice squad, will anybody else
- 7:44Speaker 3: like him enough? Or do we just like it? And
- 7:46Speaker 3: I'm not really singling out him, He's a name the
- 7:48Speaker 3: posy in my mind.
- 7:49Speaker 2: You're the best example of that. In twenty fourteen, they
- 7:52Speaker 2: had a rookie undrafted offensive lineman named Tyler Shatley, and
- 7:56Speaker 2: they loved him right and they were going to try
- 7:59Speaker 2: to pass through and get him to the practice squad
- 8:03Speaker 2: because he wasn't ready to play. And yet they heard from.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Folks they started getting calls about trading for I think, yeah,
- 8:09Speaker 3: that was good. So and they realized they couldn't do it. Yeah,
- 8:12Speaker 3: So that they anticipate this not being a solvable problem,
- 8:18Speaker 3: meaning they anticipate that they're gonna choose their fifty three
- 8:22Speaker 3: release guys and then the two or three guys are
- 8:24Speaker 3: gonna get picked up. And as Doug said, it was
- 8:29Speaker 3: kind of funny the way he said it, and it
- 8:30Speaker 3: was a couple of weeks ago. So it's a good
- 8:33Speaker 3: problem to have, and he said, well, it is if
- 8:34Speaker 3: you make the right decisions, but you got to make
- 8:36Speaker 3: sure if the guys you keep are the right guys,
- 8:40Speaker 3: because sometimes you release guys and you know, make the
- 8:42Speaker 3: wrong decision there. So it's yes, it's a good problem
- 8:45Speaker 3: to have the depth, but you don't want to be
- 8:46Speaker 3: releasing the next you know Whoever.
- 8:49Speaker 1: We'll get to that in a little bit. We're gonna
- 8:51Speaker 1: talk specifically about those wide receivers because I think that's
- 8:53Speaker 1: still definitely a spot that's up for grabs. Our last
- 8:55Speaker 1: big thing, though, is untouchables. Now we're talking a little
- 8:58Speaker 1: bit about that fifty three men roster got us thinking, obviously,
- 9:01Speaker 1: you know, Trevor Lawrence totally untouchable, but who else on
- 9:03Speaker 1: this roster do you look at and you go, if
- 9:05Speaker 1: that person is lost for the season, then this significantly
- 9:09Speaker 1: affects what the record of the team could be, what
- 9:11Speaker 1: the success of this team could be. Brian, did you
- 9:13Speaker 1: have anyone in mind if you think about and obviously
- 9:16Speaker 1: Trevor's out, We're out.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Yeah, Walker Little, right. I think Walker Little has such
- 9:20Speaker 2: a lynchpin in the offensive line because he can play
- 9:22Speaker 2: left tackle, he can play left guard. Doug said this
- 9:25Speaker 2: morning on his call that he thought he played really
- 9:28Speaker 2: well for his first professional action inside and obviously with
- 9:32Speaker 2: Anton Harrison in the shoulder, you know, if it's a
- 9:35Speaker 2: pain management issue, there's gonna be some moments where you
- 9:37Speaker 2: know you might have to move him around. Walker is
- 9:40Speaker 2: so valuable to this offensive line that if you lose
- 9:43Speaker 2: a player like that, we're talking about Josh Wells, a
- 9:46Speaker 2: ten year veteran who was brought here to be a
- 9:48Speaker 2: swing tackle, and that being a blow right now. I
- 9:52Speaker 2: think in the regular season, Walker Little is that guy
- 9:55Speaker 2: who'll create a downflow that will really thin you out quickly.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Yeah. I don't want to lose Calvin Ridley because I
- 10:04Speaker 3: really think his dynamic element is going to add a lot.
- 10:10Speaker 3: But if you did, you still feel okay about how
- 10:13Speaker 3: you're lining up there. And they were effective offensively without him,
- 10:18Speaker 3: so they I think they could get by. I would
- 10:21Speaker 3: point on defense, I still say, and people disagree with me.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Josh Allen's the one guy that I do not want
- 10:27Speaker 3: to lose because whatever his sack numbers are, when you
- 10:32Speaker 3: lose him, all of a sudden, you're looking around to
- 10:34Speaker 3: figure out where you're going to get him again. And
- 10:37Speaker 3: but maybe the biggest one and I'm going with like
- 10:40Speaker 3: eighteen guys here, Tyson Campbell. If he goes down to me,
- 10:48Speaker 3: it's Tyson and the rest. I don't know that there's
- 10:52Speaker 3: a guy in that rest who can get to his level.
- 10:56Speaker 3: That would be a blow in terms of how they
- 10:58Speaker 3: line up defensively.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Just to touch on the Allen point, Allen was fifth
- 11:03Speaker 2: or sixth in the league with a pass rush percentage
- 11:05Speaker 2: greater than fifteen percent, right, which means that he was
- 11:08Speaker 2: constantly the guy that was even if he wasn't getting
- 11:11Speaker 2: to the quarterback, he was bothering the quarterback. You've got
- 11:14Speaker 2: to have that guy. I think you're right.
- 11:15Speaker 3: I think he's critical and he's really really good against
- 11:18Speaker 3: the run. And I know everybody, well, it's to be
- 11:20Speaker 3: an agresh. I get that. But you don't want to
- 11:24Speaker 3: not be good against the run because then teams don't
- 11:29Speaker 3: have to pass. And he's even more than a cleanup guy.
- 11:34Speaker 3: There's a lot of plays he makes that might be
- 11:38Speaker 3: five yard runs and he makes them three yard runs
- 11:40Speaker 3: and there's two yards in down a distance. He's really
- 11:44Speaker 3: important on little things like that. He makes them much stouter. Guy.
- 11:48Speaker 1: All right, coming up, we're gonna go over the game film.
- 11:50Speaker 1: We had preseason Game two in Detroit last week, so
- 11:53Speaker 1: we'll go over some of our highlights from that. Stay
- 11:56Speaker 1: with us Jack Exam is presented by Carshield. You can
- 12:06Speaker 1: call car shield now if your cars out of manufacturer's warranty,
- 12:09Speaker 1: do not get stuck with expensive mechanical and computer repairs.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Call car shield now. We're back here in the Hundai
- 12:16Speaker 1: studios after a week away in Michigan for practices with
- 12:19Speaker 1: the Lions, and now we get ready for that final
- 12:22Speaker 1: preseason game on Saturday against the Dolphins. But first we're
- 12:25Speaker 1: going to recap some of the action against the Lions. Now,
- 12:27Speaker 1: we didn't see any of the starters except for Walker
- 12:29Speaker 1: Little playing at guard. But other than that, we saw
- 12:32Speaker 1: a lot of the young guys, which is what we
- 12:34Speaker 1: needed to see in Those are the people that need
- 12:35Speaker 1: to make an impression in game two if you want
- 12:37Speaker 1: to have, you know, make the roster.
- 12:40Speaker 2: And I think there were a lot of guys that
- 12:41Speaker 2: had positive impressions one and I think you mentioned him
- 12:45Speaker 2: earlier and now he's really needed. Is Jeremiah ledbetter?
- 12:49Speaker 3: Right?
- 12:50Speaker 2: He flashed all over the second half and in Dallas,
- 12:54Speaker 2: and then again in the first half here the other.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Night, and including the first play of the game.
- 12:58Speaker 2: He came out strong, finished off calebon Chase on you know,
- 13:01Speaker 2: missack opportunity. They're gonna need that big guy if Dvon
- 13:04Speaker 2: Hamilton is not ready to go at the start of
- 13:06Speaker 2: the season.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Yeah, fully's injury as well. We should mention he's part of.
- 13:09Speaker 3: My sizzling hot take later on and it's it's so
- 13:13Speaker 3: hot I can barely stand it. Right, Okay, but this
- 13:18Speaker 3: doesn't always mean everything, But I think Jaguars fans who
- 13:22Speaker 3: really follow this team closely and who even live and
- 13:25Speaker 3: died during the preseason will sort of related to what
- 13:29Speaker 3: I'm talking about. Boy, that preseason game was nice the
- 13:32Speaker 3: other night because it looked like the entire Jaguars roster
- 13:37Speaker 3: depth wise, was better than the Lions roster. And that
- 13:42Speaker 3: doesn't always mean that that's the case. If you follow
- 13:46Speaker 3: me like I thought last year, the depth panic about
- 13:49Speaker 3: this team is way overblown. So I thought they had
- 13:51Speaker 3: depth in some really key situations. But Jaguars fans was
- 13:55Speaker 3: set around a lot of second half of preseason games
- 13:57Speaker 3: and watch their teams get rolled because the lines were
- 14:00Speaker 3: not as good as the other team's lines. That didn't
- 14:03Speaker 3: look like the casey that I think it was three
- 14:05Speaker 3: ninety nine to one thirty one. You know, again, doesn't always,
- 14:11Speaker 3: that's not always a declarative statement on how good you are.
- 14:14Speaker 2: But because there's no game planning goal, it's never.
- 14:16Speaker 3: A bad thing to have the guys look like they
- 14:20Speaker 3: did the other night in the second half. So that
- 14:21Speaker 3: was pretty cool.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Or at the dad of the day, let's talk a
- 14:24Speaker 1: little bit about the running backs too. We saw some
- 14:25Speaker 1: extended carries from Tank Bigsby, who has impressed me at
- 14:29Speaker 1: least he's really solidified his position here and what the
- 14:31Speaker 1: role he's going to play on this team. And then
- 14:33Speaker 1: also Deerannis Johnson had some good runs. So I was
- 14:36Speaker 1: impressed with at least from the running backs we saw
- 14:38Speaker 1: and that we saw. There's a lot on the roster,
- 14:39Speaker 1: but I think some differentiated themselves.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Johnson's a different style of runner. He's more that third
- 14:44Speaker 2: down back right. He can he can titch the swing pass,
- 14:47Speaker 2: he can get around the corner. He showed us on
- 14:49Speaker 2: the seventeen yeard touchdown the ability to get around the corner.
- 14:51Speaker 2: But I was really impressed with Johnson's touchdown run up
- 14:56Speaker 2: the middle.
- 14:58Speaker 1: He said, set himself up to for as he bounced
- 15:01Speaker 1: outside before that there's outside run.
- 15:03Speaker 3: Yeah. I like Johnson. I think he's been overlooked because
- 15:06Speaker 3: there's just so many storylines on this team. But again,
- 15:10Speaker 3: I always hate to make declar of statements on the preseason,
- 15:12Speaker 3: but Bigsby looks like he can really run. He's his
- 15:18Speaker 3: feet in the hole or impressive. The way he sets
- 15:21Speaker 3: up the runner impressive.
- 15:23Speaker 2: He's also patient.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Yeah, he has a calmness about him and the ability
- 15:27Speaker 3: to accelerate. We've been saying for a couple of weeks
- 15:31Speaker 3: on this show that you kept hearing in the off
- 15:34Speaker 3: season after the draft that they sort of thought maybe
- 15:37Speaker 3: they really found something in this kid.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Yea, and it looks like he could explode. Running backs
- 15:44Speaker 2: coach Bernie Parmally told me early in camp that when
- 15:47Speaker 2: he went to the tape and started evaluating these guys,
- 15:50Speaker 2: this was the guy that he wanted the most. Yeah,
- 15:53Speaker 2: he thinks, and talking to Birmley, he thinks this kid
- 15:56Speaker 2: might be special, and.
- 15:57Speaker 1: I think when you also look at this, this is baseline.
- 15:59Speaker 1: He's not played a regular season game yet and we're impressed,
- 16:02Speaker 1: but what he's been able to do, I'm excited to
- 16:04Speaker 1: see kind of what evolves of this, especially with so
- 16:06Speaker 1: much attention on the passing game, might opened some stuff
- 16:09Speaker 1: up for him. Also, we'd be remiss if we did
- 16:11Speaker 1: not talk about the wide receivers, because we discussed that
- 16:14Speaker 1: last week. Kind of we each had our own person,
- 16:16Speaker 1: but who's going to be getting that final wide receiver spot?
- 16:19Speaker 1: We have most of them carved out. I think we
- 16:20Speaker 1: gave Parker Washington technically the fifth person on our list,
- 16:23Speaker 1: not necessarily the five, but who's going to be that
- 16:25Speaker 1: other guy?
- 16:26Speaker 2: Well, so I shared this because Doug told me during
- 16:28Speaker 2: our preseason telecast production meeting that this guy's going to
- 16:32Speaker 2: be the fifth and that Parker Washington is slotted for
- 16:35Speaker 2: the sixth. So these guys Jacob Harris, Tim Jones, Kevin
- 16:40Speaker 2: Austin Junior, and Slash Williams. He didn't mention Elijah Cooks.
- 16:45Speaker 2: He said those were the four guys that he talked about.
- 16:47Speaker 2: John He said, those guys have to block a safety.
- 16:50Speaker 2: They're going to be in in running situations and you
- 16:53Speaker 2: got to block the safety. I couldn't watch the game
- 16:55Speaker 2: close enough the other night to see who blocked the best.
- 16:59Speaker 2: But if you're asking me now, I'll take Seth Williams
- 17:01Speaker 2: because I think he is a well rounded special teamer blocker,
- 17:05Speaker 2: and he made clutch catches in both of the two
- 17:07Speaker 2: preseason games on third down and long.
- 17:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I'd still be a little surprised if the kid
- 17:13Speaker 3: we just saw, Tim Jones isn't the guy, because he
- 17:16Speaker 3: was still good on special teams. He seems to get it.
- 17:19Speaker 3: He makes plays when given the chance for the football
- 17:23Speaker 3: right here. So I'll go with him, But I'm not
- 17:26Speaker 3: banging the table. I think out at that bunch, obviously
- 17:31Speaker 3: one of those guys is going to make the roster.
- 17:34Speaker 3: They'll probably just have to take the approach of we're
- 17:37Speaker 3: going to release three or four receivers and hope like
- 17:42Speaker 3: heck that one or two of them don't get signed
- 17:45Speaker 3: somewhere and we can get him back and feel like
- 17:48Speaker 3: we can manage that situation, and an injury might allow
- 17:53Speaker 3: one of them to be on the team. You know,
- 17:55Speaker 3: you don't hope for an injury, but once you get
- 17:57Speaker 3: him on the practice squad. Sometimes what happens is the
- 17:59Speaker 3: other spots get injured and you can bring a guy
- 18:02Speaker 3: up and keep them around your team for the long term,
- 18:05Speaker 3: turning a short term negative into a long term positive.
- 18:09Speaker 2: The interesting thing about Harris and then Cooks, who I
- 18:12Speaker 2: think is I like Harris, Yeah, I do too, is
- 18:14Speaker 2: that they are so distinctly different than any of the
- 18:17Speaker 2: receivers you have. They're taller, they're both over six foot five,
- 18:20Speaker 2: they have immense wingspan, I mean their arms stretch from
- 18:24Speaker 2: sideline to sideline, and both of them made catches on
- 18:27Speaker 2: the run, which isn't as easy for those big bodies
- 18:30Speaker 2: to then turn up the field right. They can make
- 18:32Speaker 2: the jumping catch sometimes like Harris in Dallas made the
- 18:35Speaker 2: diving catch, but the catch and run like Cooks made
- 18:38Speaker 2: the other day, for a big body like that to
- 18:40Speaker 2: turn his hips and get up the field, that's not
- 18:42Speaker 2: as easy to do as it looks.
- 18:43Speaker 1: And I think that's part of why I don't think
- 18:45Speaker 1: some of these wide receivers that don't make the final
- 18:47Speaker 1: roster are going to be available for practice squad. I
- 18:49Speaker 1: think a lot of other teams are very needy for
- 18:51Speaker 1: position players or you know, tall receivers, whatever it may be.
- 18:55Speaker 1: So I don't think there's gonna be a chance that
- 18:56Speaker 1: a lot of those end up back here on the
- 18:58Speaker 1: practice squad.
- 18:58Speaker 3: But yourstance fact, and I think you're right. But then,
- 19:02Speaker 3: like I said earlier in the show, sometimes teams like
- 19:06Speaker 3: keeping the guys around who know their scheme. So sometimes
- 19:10Speaker 3: there's not quite as much movement on that deadline as
- 19:13Speaker 3: you would think, because if it's if it's just marginal
- 19:16Speaker 3: between say a Jacob Harris and some receiver in you know,
- 19:20Speaker 3: Kansas City, the other team might say, well, yeah, we
- 19:24Speaker 3: like that guy, but this guy knows our system. He's
- 19:27Speaker 3: been around, So you sort of hope that that plays
- 19:30Speaker 3: into your favor a little bit and you can keep
- 19:32Speaker 3: some practice squad guys, but they're gonna lose a couple.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Well, here's the interesting thing. I mean, we didn't even mention.
- 19:37Speaker 2: We mentioned Austin, we mentioned Harris, we mentioned Cooks, we
- 19:40Speaker 2: mentioned Tim Jones. Jerray Jenkins has been impressive on the
- 19:44Speaker 2: practice field, and not told is improving as a special
- 19:47Speaker 2: teams guy. I mean it's not just through Kendrick.
- 19:49Speaker 3: Pryor, who was on the roster of the whole year
- 19:51Speaker 3: Avenue and mentioned he was on the roster for a reason. Yeah,
- 19:54Speaker 3: because they felt like he was an NFL player who
- 19:58Speaker 3: could step up if there was an injury. He's thinking
- 20:00Speaker 3: about that wide receiver corps last year is you had
- 20:02Speaker 3: Austin and Pryor. None of them ever got a shot
- 20:06Speaker 3: because the wide receiver.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Let's hope it stays that way.
- 20:11Speaker 2: It's ridiculously deep. All right.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Now, let's take a look at Gregory Junior. He had
- 20:16Speaker 1: an amazing game one of the preseason and Doug talked
- 20:19Speaker 1: a lot about seeing consistency out of those young defensive players,
- 20:21Speaker 1: and that's exactly what we saw in Game two. He
- 20:23Speaker 1: was involved a lot of stuff, had his pick of
- 20:25Speaker 1: course here and I mean he's doing all the right
- 20:28Speaker 1: things at this point. Do you think he can carve
- 20:31Speaker 1: himself out a starting position if this keeps up?
- 20:33Speaker 2: Yes? I do. I've been told that it's closer than
- 20:37Speaker 2: people think. He's a bigger, stronger, more physical young presence.
- 20:43Speaker 2: Nothing against Trey. Trey's been here since twenty eighteen and
- 20:46Speaker 2: he has earned a spot in this Here's the other
- 20:48Speaker 2: thing too, and John, it's a factor. He's much less
- 20:51Speaker 2: expensive and this is a team that has to watch
- 20:54Speaker 2: every penny heading into next year, and if you have
- 20:57Speaker 2: the chance to take a young Greg Junior who's playing
- 20:59Speaker 2: well and have him for the next couple of years
- 21:02Speaker 2: at a really fixed cost, it's much easier than a
- 21:05Speaker 2: veteran player who's making over a million in that veteran minimum,
- 21:09Speaker 2: because every dime is going to count. If you want
- 21:11Speaker 2: to keep Calvin Ridley, if Josh Allen has a big
- 21:14Speaker 2: season and you want to find a way to get him,
- 21:16Speaker 2: you got Tyson Campbell. You've got the quarterback. So that
- 21:20Speaker 2: factors into this decision at that nickel corner.
- 21:23Speaker 3: I never forget about Walker Little either. I won't so money. Yeah,
- 21:29Speaker 3: there's no question to me. Greg Junior's on the roster.
- 21:32Speaker 3: The only question is whether he gets that nickel spot.
- 21:34Speaker 3: I don't know that it would necessarily be the either
- 21:37Speaker 3: or scenario in terms of money this year, but I
- 21:42Speaker 3: think you definitely keep Greg Junior with the idea that
- 21:44Speaker 3: bare minimum he can be a nickel going forward and
- 21:48Speaker 3: with Darius Williams next year, can Greg Junior show enough
- 21:52Speaker 3: to eventually be a starting outside corner. I don't know
- 21:54Speaker 3: that he's done that yet. I asked him after the game.
- 21:57Speaker 3: You know, I said, you almost got to catch that one,
- 22:01Speaker 3: right and he he laughed. He said, yeah, if I
- 22:03Speaker 3: had to dropped that, it would have been bad. Yeah. Yeah,
- 22:06Speaker 3: film me. But he's he's on the fifty three. There's
- 22:09Speaker 3: no nack for being around the ball. Uh. Coaches don't
- 22:13Speaker 3: like to get rid of that neck.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Nope, love to see it. All right, stay with us.
- 22:16Speaker 1: We've got some piping hot takes coming up after the break.
- 22:19Speaker 1: See then, move the freight, Move the freight. Magellan Transport
- 22:28Speaker 1: was voted the coolest office space in Jacksonville. You can
- 22:30Speaker 1: apply online at www dot Magellanlogistics dot com. Well, wrapping
- 22:36Speaker 1: up training camp, wrapping up the preseasons, we got some
- 22:38Speaker 1: hot takes for you. Why not Ryan?
- 22:41Speaker 3: You want to start us off for sure?
- 22:42Speaker 2: Uh, Nathan Rourke might be your three. And I say
- 22:46Speaker 2: that because everybody is up in arms about this young
- 22:49Speaker 2: kid for some of the dramatic plays that he's made.
- 22:53Speaker 2: So rather than just throw that take out, I went
- 22:54Speaker 2: and I talked to some coaches and scouting types while
- 22:57Speaker 2: we were in Detroit, so most of them Jacksonville people,
- 22:59Speaker 2: but some Detroit people too, And they point out a
- 23:02Speaker 2: couple of things that I wanted to share. The first
- 23:04Speaker 2: is is that in the preseason, this guy said to me,
- 23:09Speaker 2: just watch preseason game. In the fourth quart of a
- 23:11Speaker 2: preseason game, if a quarterback has any juice at all,
- 23:13Speaker 2: and this kid does. Playing behind a line filled with
- 23:16Speaker 2: guys who are going to be doing something different after
- 23:18Speaker 2: a final cutdown day, against guys who are rushing the
- 23:20Speaker 2: passer who are going to be doing different things after
- 23:22Speaker 2: cutdown day, any quarterback with some juice has the ability
- 23:25Speaker 2: to make plays. Now, his play in Dallas was legitimately
- 23:27Speaker 2: a great play, but I watched that very night the
- 23:32Speaker 2: Philadelphia Cleveland game, and there was a quarterback who spun, twisted,
- 23:35Speaker 2: turn was not three times, got up, avoided the safety,
- 23:38Speaker 2: and got up the field for what turned out to
- 23:40Speaker 2: be a six yard game. So you're going to see
- 23:42Speaker 2: the juice number two. And this was pointed out by
- 23:45Speaker 2: several people, and that is that you have. Now how
- 23:48Speaker 2: much have we talked about the value of season two
- 23:52Speaker 2: in Doug's system for the starter, same thing for CJ.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Bethord behind him. Now we've got a kid who's been
- 23:58Speaker 2: here what a little over two months. You're not going
- 24:00Speaker 2: to turn the reins over to that kid yet, because
- 24:03Speaker 2: you have a veteran backup who's very good in the room.
- 24:06Speaker 2: I'm told with Trevor, they're very close. You're not going
- 24:09Speaker 2: to disrupt that. And the Jaguars, as Doug pointed out
- 24:11Speaker 2: in his postgame news conference in the night, aren't even
- 24:13Speaker 2: considering it. It's Bethard's job, that's what they means him.
- 24:17Speaker 2: And here's the last one, and I thought it was
- 24:19Speaker 2: valuable John. People have to understand their role, and he
- 24:24Speaker 2: has to come in here and embrace being the three.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Not everyone wants to be told they're the three, but
- 24:28Speaker 2: there's such a learning curve in the NFL that good
- 24:32Speaker 2: twos are often good threes. They come in and they
- 24:34Speaker 2: run the scout team, they learn the offense, they pay
- 24:37Speaker 2: attention in meetings, they watch Trevor Lawrence, who's a legitimate
- 24:40Speaker 2: elite quarterback in this league, and they grow from that.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Folks keep in mind, he's coming from Canada and he's
- 24:46Speaker 2: making an adjustment back to American football where he played
- 24:48Speaker 2: college football Ohio, and there's a learning curve for everyone.
- 24:52Speaker 2: He's not ready. He's athletic, he's exciting, he's got juice.
- 24:56Speaker 2: If he'll embrace his role as the three here, he'll
- 24:59Speaker 2: have a good chance to be a two at some point.
- 25:02Speaker 1: In the future, John, is there any chance to carry
- 25:04Speaker 1: three quarterbacks or I.
- 25:05Speaker 3: Think it's gonna be tough.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Well, the third quarterback now can be on the practice squad.
- 25:09Speaker 3: Yeah, and I don't know that. Again, going back to
- 25:13Speaker 3: the thing of people have their own guys, a quarterback,
- 25:17Speaker 3: particularly at cutdown date, has to really be something some
- 25:23Speaker 3: for another team to say, Okay, I'm gonna go get that,
- 25:27Speaker 3: because most teams have the same problem the Jags. Do
- 25:29Speaker 3: you carry three, you are probably not going to go
- 25:33Speaker 3: sign or acclaim a wavered player who wasn't the Jaguars
- 25:39Speaker 3: two to come in and be your two. So now
- 25:42Speaker 3: you've got to make room on your roster for a
- 25:44Speaker 3: three that you don't know. I don't know that it's
- 25:47Speaker 3: as much of a given that somebody snatches him up
- 25:50Speaker 3: as maybe fans think, who are very enamored with the place.
- 25:55Speaker 3: It's an equity decision for the Jaguars, meaning if you
- 25:59Speaker 3: keep him, you're keeping him, yes, because you like to
- 26:03Speaker 3: have him as your backup potentially in a year or two.
- 26:06Speaker 3: But you also think, well, quarterbacks are worth something in
- 26:11Speaker 3: trade as well, which can matter. I think's gonna be
- 26:14Speaker 3: tough for them to keep him as the three. Bottom
- 26:16Speaker 3: line is he's getting it done on sheer athleticism right.
- 26:18Speaker 3: He is, He's got juice and he's that's the upside.
- 26:22Speaker 3: The downside is he needs to now learn the system
- 26:25Speaker 3: and how this works, and so there is a learning
- 26:27Speaker 3: curve for him. But there's optimism that if he's willing
- 26:31Speaker 3: to apply himself and embrace the role of being three,
- 26:34Speaker 3: that he can be a good two.
- 26:36Speaker 1: And I know we love these you know, random Underdog,
- 26:39Speaker 1: you know Gardner Minshee, all those kinds of crazy plays
- 26:42Speaker 1: and stories. But we have Trevor Lawrence. So hopefully no
- 26:45Speaker 1: one ever touches the field.
- 26:47Speaker 2: I would hope after this week. And by the way,
- 26:49Speaker 2: I thought it was interesting today when Doug was asked,
- 26:52Speaker 2: we'll see j Becker play most of the second half
- 26:53Speaker 2: on Saturday against the Dolphins or will you work rourk
- 26:56Speaker 2: in and he said, yeah, I haven't decided that yet.
- 26:58Speaker 2: So you know, we may ce CJ. Bethard get the
- 27:01Speaker 2: entire second half because those reps are going to be
- 27:03Speaker 2: valuable for him, God willing, he doesn't play much, if
- 27:06Speaker 2: at all, this year, but those reps are better served
- 27:09Speaker 2: for your number two than your number three, because your
- 27:12Speaker 2: three is gonna get a lot of reps on the
- 27:13Speaker 2: practice feel going forward.
- 27:15Speaker 3: And remember, I don't know everything that'll go into the decision.
- 27:18Speaker 3: I don't know every detail of what Doug likes about
- 27:21Speaker 3: CJ Bethard. But Doug was a backup quarterback for a minute,
- 27:26Speaker 3: so he knows what he wants from that role, and
- 27:29Speaker 3: he was a three, and I think he wants to
- 27:32Speaker 3: trust that role more than anything else. What am I
- 27:35Speaker 3: going to see when that? You know, I've always said
- 27:39Speaker 3: the backup quarterback in the NFL, if your starters out
- 27:42Speaker 3: four weeks and you're a contender, you want that backup
- 27:45Speaker 3: quarterback to be able to get you five hundred during
- 27:46Speaker 3: that and keep you alive and trust that it's not
- 27:51Speaker 3: going to be mistakes, it's not going to be mental stuff.
- 27:54Speaker 3: So I'm sure Doug trusts CJ on that front, or
- 27:57Speaker 3: CJ wouldn't be here.
- 27:58Speaker 2: By the way, last thought on this, Doug was not
- 28:00Speaker 2: just a backup. Doug was a three in Miami, way
- 28:04Speaker 2: down the depth chart behind Dan Marino, and he was
- 28:06Speaker 2: released six times before he finally hooked on and became
- 28:11Speaker 2: the three and then the two.
- 28:13Speaker 3: Much more common to carry three in Doug's era than.
- 28:17Speaker 2: Although the practice squad now because of the rules and
- 28:19Speaker 2: how that's changed, allows.
- 28:20Speaker 3: You to do that.
- 28:21Speaker 1: John, I know you went offense for your take as well.
- 28:23Speaker 3: Well. I went offense, and my take's a little hotter
- 28:28Speaker 3: than my feeling.
- 28:29Speaker 1: This is the defense you're going, let's go hot take.
- 28:31Speaker 3: This is the deepest offense in franchise history. And I
- 28:33Speaker 3: think particularly at the skill positions.
- 28:35Speaker 2: Is that Fred Taylor calling you right now? Jimmy Smith
- 28:38Speaker 2: not best.
- 28:40Speaker 3: I don't think the running back rooms have necessarily had
- 28:45Speaker 3: a Deernest Johnson at three at the same time that
- 28:50Speaker 3: the tight ends went as deep. I feel like the
- 28:53Speaker 3: offensive line is deep, so this is not as much
- 28:57Speaker 3: of a given as people think, but I think right
- 28:59Speaker 3: now it is the deepest. What's impressive about the depth
- 29:04Speaker 3: in the point I wanted to get to with this take.
- 29:06Speaker 3: I think Trent Balky and the pro scouting people here
- 29:10Speaker 3: need some credit if you think about the depth right now. Yes,
- 29:13Speaker 3: it's coming from the draft, it's also coming from Durnis Johnson,
- 29:19Speaker 3: Jeremiah Ledbetter, Blake Hants, Jacob Harris, guys that have been
- 29:26Speaker 3: on other.
- 29:27Speaker 2: Rosters, young players who haven't.
- 29:28Speaker 3: Well Ledbetter's six. They signed Michael Dogby, who in his
- 29:33Speaker 3: fourth year. They have really good third and fourth year
- 29:37Speaker 3: players who have been elsewhere who have a chance to
- 29:40Speaker 3: either make an impact or I don't know that this
- 29:44Speaker 3: team has always had that in the past. I think
- 29:48Speaker 3: there's an element that Trent felt two years ago like
- 29:52Speaker 3: the roster was so depleted that you couldn't just build
- 29:55Speaker 3: it through the draft. So they went with I would
- 29:58Speaker 3: even consider them of these guys third tier free a
- 30:00Speaker 3: and see. And now they have guys who, you know,
- 30:04Speaker 3: it's hard to have a young defensive tackle, Raymond Vahassek,
- 30:09Speaker 3: I'm getting his name right, a rookie, seventh round pick.
- 30:12Speaker 3: I think will be good. I don't know that he's
- 30:14Speaker 3: ready right now to be good. So in lieu of that,
- 30:18Speaker 3: you have Jeremiah Ledbetter, who's a veteran who's good right now.
- 30:22Speaker 3: Hard for rookies to be really good depth on your
- 30:25Speaker 3: defensive line. So the Jaguars went out and got somebody
- 30:28Speaker 3: like Jeremiah Ledbetter who's not a rookie, but he's young,
- 30:30Speaker 3: he's cap friendly. That's roster building, and that's being ready.
- 30:34Speaker 2: They've done a good job with this roster I'll argue
- 30:36Speaker 2: with you. In ninety eight they had Fred Taylor, James Stewart,
- 30:41Speaker 2: and Tavian Banks. I think the offensive line in ninety
- 30:44Speaker 2: nine around here was really deep and really good. But
- 30:47Speaker 2: I think this is the deepest group of wide receivers
- 30:49Speaker 2: they've ever had, and I think the deepest group of
- 30:52Speaker 2: tight ends. And that counts. You know, the two thousand
- 30:54Speaker 2: and sixth season when they had Kyle Brady and Marcedes Lewis, right,
- 30:58Speaker 2: Lewis was a rookie and Brady was you know, in
- 31:01Speaker 2: his last season, was still the blest blocking tight end
- 31:03Speaker 2: and a good chain moving third down. You can make
- 31:07Speaker 2: a strong argument that the talent level here in a
- 31:09Speaker 2: year could easily be right there.
- 31:13Speaker 3: Yeah, and again it's a there's such a tendency to
- 31:18Speaker 3: see the latest thing you saw that's the best, you know.
- 31:20Speaker 3: So I know there are position groups that have been
- 31:24Speaker 3: better at times, but overall, I think the depth of
- 31:28Speaker 3: receiver is what sort of tilts it from me. Yeah,
- 31:30Speaker 3: it's the best this group at its front line. It
- 31:34Speaker 3: is not Jimmy Keenan yet, because you got to prove
- 31:37Speaker 3: that down to five or six. I think it's hard
- 31:40Speaker 3: to find a deeper at any point in franchise.
- 31:43Speaker 2: There's never been as many wide receivers here. And the
- 31:45Speaker 2: reason I point out the running backs is I had
- 31:47Speaker 2: a phone conversation with Tavian Banks last week and he
- 31:49Speaker 2: was talking about that ninety eight room and as a
- 31:51Speaker 2: rookie being able to learn from Fred and.
- 31:53Speaker 3: Fitzkavian could have been really good man.
- 31:55Speaker 2: Yes, yes, I was working on a story for the
- 31:56Speaker 2: Alumni News on that one. It's it's a great story.
- 31:59Speaker 2: Great to catch up with him.
- 32:00Speaker 1: All right, you guys, I'm going boiling hot. I didn't
- 32:02Speaker 1: tell you what my take was yet, so you should
- 32:03Speaker 1: be pleasantly surprised. I think the Jaguars are going to
- 32:06Speaker 1: start the season eight. No, and I'm basing that wow
- 32:10Speaker 1: off of looking at the schedule. Obviously, Kansas City is
- 32:13Speaker 1: gonna be the first one we talk about.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Yeah, that would be a franchise best. They've never started eight.
- 32:16Speaker 1: No, you know what, let's do this. We're going all
- 32:18Speaker 1: int I'm pushing all the chips in where they ever
- 32:20Speaker 1: started six? And oh they had no interesting five? And
- 32:25Speaker 1: oh is the best? All right? So hear me out
- 32:29Speaker 1: coming from New England, I do not think it can
- 32:31Speaker 1: be underestimated coming to Florida and playing in September because
- 32:34Speaker 1: it affects people. I always believe that, and I always
- 32:36Speaker 1: will believe that, having seen Tom Brady never be able
- 32:39Speaker 1: to beat Miami in September games, it was his bugaboo.
- 32:43Speaker 3: I believe that.
- 32:43Speaker 1: I know Patrick Mahomes can do crazy things, but also
- 32:46Speaker 1: there's something else there we need to Chris Jones is
- 32:48Speaker 1: not reported to their training camp yet. We don't know
- 32:50Speaker 1: if that's going to be figured out before the beginning
- 32:52Speaker 1: of the season or not. He seems to be really
- 32:54Speaker 1: have dug his heels in on that, and you know,
- 32:56Speaker 1: if you were losing the leading sack leader in the NFL,
- 32:59Speaker 1: that's going to affect your defense. So that's my biggest
- 33:01Speaker 1: bugaboo for them. After that, I think having two weeks
- 33:04Speaker 1: in England will benefit them more than their opponents, and
- 33:07Speaker 1: then I think they'll go into the bye week un
- 33:09Speaker 1: defeated at this point other than Kansas City, do you
- 33:11Speaker 1: think there's any other games that you've looked at that
- 33:14Speaker 1: are big for them in the first half of the season.
- 33:17Speaker 3: Yeah, Buffalo is big.
- 33:18Speaker 2: Yeah, at Tottenham at Tottenham, not in Buffalo in December.
- 33:23Speaker 1: That's a huge out for them to go to Buffalo.
- 33:25Speaker 3: I think if they do what you said, then I
- 33:28Speaker 3: think they're going to super Bowl. Because if to me,
- 33:31Speaker 3: if you're eight to no against this schedule, you this.
- 33:33Speaker 2: Ain't no get into the bye week's your by week.
- 33:36Speaker 1: I think San Francisco's the first loss. That's the first
- 33:38Speaker 1: game the bye week, and then they But I don't
- 33:41Speaker 1: know if it does mean super Bowl because if you
- 33:43Speaker 1: have then you come back. So the second half is
- 33:45Speaker 1: really Obviously Kansas City is a huge game, but the
- 33:47Speaker 1: second half is what I'm looking at is you've got
- 33:49Speaker 1: forty nine ers, You've got the Bengals on Monday Night Football,
- 33:53Speaker 1: you have Baltimore on Sunday Night Football, and then you
- 33:55Speaker 1: get some of those weird bugaboo games, like they're playing
- 33:58Speaker 1: Carolina at home at Houston around Thanksgiving, and then Tennessee's
- 34:02Speaker 1: the last game of the season.
- 34:03Speaker 3: So but if you're eight and oh, you're really really good,
- 34:07Speaker 3: and you've got all of a sudden, you've broken Kansas
- 34:10Speaker 3: City's sir, you have tie breakers against Kansas City and Buffalo,
- 34:16Speaker 3: you're awfully hard to catch. If you're eight and oh
- 34:18Speaker 3: and you've beaten two of the other good conference teams,
- 34:23Speaker 3: I'm I'm not gonna have that hot to take you.
- 34:25Speaker 1: It's got to come in visualize.
- 34:28Speaker 2: So eight they started five and oh, and what did
- 34:31Speaker 2: they finish? They finished eleven and five okay, and then
- 34:35Speaker 2: they lost in the second round of the playoffs in
- 34:38Speaker 2: New York. That was the Jets team led by Keishawn
- 34:43Speaker 2: Johnson and Curtis Martin that went on. No Churs Martin
- 34:46Speaker 2: wasn't there that year with the Testaverity year. Yeah, it
- 34:50Speaker 2: was Testaverty and and they went to the AFC title
- 34:52Speaker 2: game and got beat that year by the Denver Broncos.
- 34:54Speaker 2: And I'm just then, now, here's here's the best starting
- 34:57Speaker 2: franchise history. Ready, eleven, thirteen and one And that was
- 35:03Speaker 2: that was ninety nine when they lost in Week three
- 35:05Speaker 2: to the Titans and then had an eleven game winning streak.
- 35:08Speaker 2: So eleven and one is the best start. Five and
- 35:11Speaker 2: oh is the best undefeated start. So I mean, you're
- 35:14Speaker 2: can be done. More power to you, you guys, more power.
- 35:18Speaker 2: Well let's go, let's go.
- 35:20Speaker 3: Yeah, that's John's not on board yet. I mean I
- 35:24Speaker 3: came eight no, because eight no is really really hard.
- 35:27Speaker 3: And if you're starting eight and eight no this roster,
- 35:32Speaker 3: you're elite. You're ready to join the big boys. You're
- 35:34Speaker 3: one of the four and uh, then you're flipping a
- 35:37Speaker 3: coin in the playoffs.
- 35:38Speaker 2: Whether you beat one of the elites, it means also
- 35:40Speaker 2: that you win on Thursday night in New Orleans. And
- 35:42Speaker 2: I know this is not that you're.
- 35:43Speaker 1: That's my other second game I look at. It's that
- 35:45Speaker 1: Thursday night game is always tricky, especially on the road.
- 35:47Speaker 2: And then Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Jaguars have had good success
- 35:49Speaker 2: there in recent years. That's also gonna be good.
- 35:51Speaker 3: Yeah, yes, be fun.
- 35:52Speaker 1: We'll look more at the schedule a little bit later
- 35:54Speaker 1: on once we get through this last preseason game, but
- 35:56Speaker 1: coming up, we'll talk to you guys about what we
- 35:58Speaker 1: got going on this week. So stay with us Jags fans.

- 36:08Speaker 1: zipchair dot com to browse all customizable options. Zip Chair
- 36:12Speaker 1: is furniture for fans. So we have one more week
- 36:16Speaker 1: of practice before preseason game three midday and late day practice,
- 36:19Speaker 1: so they're getting out there in the sun, getting used
- 36:21Speaker 1: to the weather, and we're just trying to make sure
- 36:23Speaker 1: everybody stays healthy at this point, at least.
- 36:25Speaker 2: In my big deal. Yeah, yeah, one o'clock games here
- 36:28Speaker 2: in Week two against Kansas City and week three against Houston,
- 36:31Speaker 2: so you better be ready for those days too.
- 36:33Speaker 1: Well.
- 36:33Speaker 3: It's interesting. This is sort of why though, I think
- 36:36Speaker 3: coaches like the idea of this sort of final bye
- 36:41Speaker 3: of the preseason because it gives you a chance to manage. Yes,
- 36:46Speaker 3: the Jaguars are beat up, but there's also what twenty
- 36:50Speaker 3: days until till the game, first game, the opener. Well,
- 36:53Speaker 3: if you were at week four and told hey, you're
- 36:58Speaker 3: beat up, but you've got two bye weeks come up,
- 37:00Speaker 3: you know the rest these guys, he'll be okay. Well
- 37:02Speaker 3: we can we can manage that. So I think they're
- 37:06Speaker 3: okay as long as they manage this and as long
- 37:08Speaker 3: as nothing happens Sunday or Saturday where you think, oh,
- 37:13Speaker 3: there's another.
- 37:13Speaker 1: One, right.
- 37:14Speaker 2: And Doug said this morning that he's not going to
- 37:16Speaker 2: coach fearful of injuries. It's football. It's a dangerous game.
- 37:19Speaker 2: Because he can't do that good guys get hurt. He's
- 37:21Speaker 2: going to go out there coach. He's got a certain
- 37:24Speaker 2: agenda plan for these guys, and he'll get that done.
- 37:28Speaker 2: And if a guy gets hurt, a guy gets hurt,
- 37:30Speaker 2: he's not gonna coach scared.
- 37:31Speaker 3: Last bottom line is as long as the quarterback's up right.
- 37:34Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, and last we heard, starters are going to
- 37:36Speaker 1: go the whole first half against Miami, so we'll see
- 37:38Speaker 1: a lot of what maybe this team can kind of
- 37:40Speaker 1: put together in that time. Give him a little time
- 37:42Speaker 1: to work the offense, and we'll see what they got
- 37:44Speaker 1: out there. Thanks everyone for joining us. We'll come back
- 37:47Speaker 1: with you on Wednesday for jag Zam and give you
- 37:49Speaker 1: the latest on everything going down.
