- 0:00Speaker 1: If you're listening to Mark on the iHeart Radio app,
- 0:02Speaker 1: save time and the Briset button. Now now back to
- 0:06Speaker 1: the Mark Simone Show on wor Hey, let's take some calls.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Let's go to UH Dominic, North Carolina Dominic. How you doing?
- 0:18Speaker 2: Yeah, Hey, good morning, Mark, Happy Easter. Listen.
- 0:21Speaker 3: I love your show, and.
- 0:22Speaker 2: I usually all love Ed Rollins, but he always comes
- 0:25Speaker 2: to things from a political perspective. I would say there's
- 0:29Speaker 2: more important things than just a mid term election. It
- 0:31Speaker 2: would stink to lose it, but we got to finish
- 0:34Speaker 2: this thing in Iran. There's two important principles at stake.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Number one, we cannot let them have nuclear weapons.
- 0:40Speaker 1: And number two, well, I think we're kind of working
- 0:42Speaker 1: on that now as we speak. I think as we
- 0:44Speaker 1: speak we're trying to do it.
- 0:45Speaker 4: Yeah, but I mean, I mean, I don't. It doesn't help,
- 0:47Speaker 4: all right.
- 0:47Speaker 3: You got to calm down.
- 0:48Speaker 1: You get yourself a little riled up there, Calm down,
- 0:50Speaker 1: Calm down. We're working on Iran. We're doing everything we
- 0:52Speaker 1: can do right now.
- 0:56Speaker 4: And it may even take a little bit of sacrifice.
- 0:58Speaker 1: People like to get mad, they like to be a
- 1:00Speaker 1: great like them. Well no, no, just take it easy.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Calm down. We're working on Iran as we speak. Let's
- 1:06Speaker 1: go to Dave in Chicago. Dave, how you doing.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Good morning, Mark.
- 1:10Speaker 5: I'm doing very well, Thank you. Mark. In regard to
- 1:13Speaker 5: restaurants outside of the major holidays, I'm wondering where is
- 1:17Speaker 5: their main revenue center. I'd have to guess there would
- 1:21Speaker 5: be two things, the side dishes because everything's ala carte,
- 1:25Speaker 5: and probably alcohol.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Yeah, that's it. Used to be alcohol. The profit margin
- 1:31Speaker 1: was much higher on alcohol than food, but that was
- 1:34Speaker 1: years ago. That was years ago. Once once the alcohol changed,
- 1:38Speaker 1: you know, once there were like twenty seven fancy vodkas
- 1:40Speaker 1: and nine thousand different fancy drinks, the cost went up.
- 1:44Speaker 1: So the profit margin is pretty similar in food or alcohol.
- 1:48Speaker 1: So you can make just as much money on food.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Here's the thing when you when you go to it
- 1:53Speaker 1: like a steakhast today, because of the inflation and all
- 1:57Speaker 1: that stuff, a steak is a ridiculous price. You go
- 2:02Speaker 1: to a steakhost, the steak could be eighty dollars, eighty
- 2:05Speaker 1: five dollars. It's unbelievable, and you think the restaurant's greedy.
- 2:08Speaker 1: They're really not. That's how much they're paying for steak.
- 2:11Speaker 4: Now.
- 2:11Speaker 1: One of the reason it's not just inflation. One of
- 2:13Speaker 1: the reasons is there's a cattle shortage. So the restaurant,
- 2:17Speaker 1: if you order an eighty five dollars steak, the restaurant
- 2:19Speaker 1: is probably not making any money, believe it or not.
- 2:21Speaker 1: The cost on that steak is so high they're not
- 2:25Speaker 1: making any money. But if you order a side dish,
- 2:28Speaker 1: if you order broccoli or spinach or mashed potatoes, that's
- 2:32Speaker 1: where they make a fortune because they'll charge you fifteen
- 2:34Speaker 1: dollars and the cost is like forty cents. So if
- 2:37Speaker 1: you go order the biggest steak on the menu, they're
- 2:40Speaker 1: not too thrilled with you. But if the person with
- 2:43Speaker 1: you doesn't order a main course and orders four side dishes,
- 2:46Speaker 1: they're thrilled with that person because that's now nowadays where
- 2:49Speaker 1: all the profit is. Let's go to Paul in Rosalind,
- 2:52Speaker 1: Long Island. Paul, how you doing good?
- 2:55Speaker 6: Mark? How are you today?
- 2:55Speaker 4: Now?
- 2:56Speaker 1: I'm good. You got a great steak. There, you got
- 2:58Speaker 1: Hendrick's tavern.
- 2:59Speaker 6: There, you're right. Just a question about a different subject.
- 3:03Speaker 6: Have you watched the JFK Junior Carolyn Bissett series on
- 3:06Speaker 6: thats recently?
- 3:08Speaker 2: Yes?
- 3:09Speaker 6: And what do you think about it?
- 3:10Speaker 1: Well, I knew the guy, I didn't know her. I
- 3:12Speaker 1: knew him pretty well. It's not entirely accurate. It's very
- 3:17Speaker 1: well done, very well done. This were the locations. Everything
- 3:22Speaker 1: is very accurate, The acting is phenomenal, but they're leaving
- 3:25Speaker 1: out a lot of stuff. He was an incredible womanizer.
- 3:29Speaker 1: He was, as people used to say, a hit it
- 3:32Speaker 1: and quit it kind of a guy. If he went
- 3:33Speaker 1: through millions of women. He was not the soft, sensitive
- 3:37Speaker 1: guy they portray. They left out that part of it. Also.
- 3:40Speaker 1: He was ridiculously reckless and careless with his own life
- 3:44Speaker 1: in other people's life. So did that come across to
- 3:47Speaker 1: you in that series?
- 3:48Speaker 6: Absolutely? And the other thing I noticed is that the
- 3:51Speaker 6: amount of smoking that she did was incredible. She's basically
- 3:55Speaker 6: has a cigarette in her mouth in every scene.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Yeah, but that was a lot of people back then.
- 3:59Speaker 1: You know, you're back then. Everybody smoked everywhere he went
- 4:02Speaker 1: in every restaurant, everybody's smoking. Go watch the Tonight Show
- 4:06Speaker 1: from nineteen seventy three. Johnny's smoking. Everybody's smoking. But that JFK.
- 4:13Speaker 1: You know, if you look back at that plane crash
- 4:16Speaker 1: to saying, oh what a tragedy of the plane. It
- 4:19Speaker 1: was the most reckless thing in the world. Again, he
- 4:21Speaker 1: was a daredevil and reckless that plane, that flight. He
- 4:25Speaker 1: wasn't qualified to fly that flight. He wasn't certified to
- 4:29Speaker 1: fly in low visibility. He had a broken foot that day,
- 4:32Speaker 1: which meant he couldn't work the pedals on the plane properly.
- 4:36Speaker 1: No business making that flight. He was so bad as
- 4:38Speaker 1: a he'd been a pilot for about twelve minutes and
- 4:40Speaker 1: he's trying to fly through fog over the ocean. He
- 4:44Speaker 1: almost hit an American Airlines jet and when he took off,
- 4:48Speaker 1: he just didn't know what he was doing. He flew
- 4:50Speaker 1: into the air corridor of an American Airlines plane. Luckily
- 4:54Speaker 1: they were professional pilots and were able to evade him,
- 4:57Speaker 1: but otherwise he was just ridiculously reckless. Killed his wife,
- 5:01Speaker 1: killed her sister. Just awful. Let's go to Chris and Bethpage, Chris,
- 5:05Speaker 1: how you doing, hey?
- 5:08Speaker 3: Good?
- 5:08Speaker 1: Mark? Just about JFK.
- 5:11Speaker 4: They said it was so bad.
- 5:13Speaker 3: He thought he was.
- 5:14Speaker 6: Flying parallel to the water when he was actually flying
- 5:17Speaker 6: straight down into it.
- 5:18Speaker 1: That's what they crashed proof. So that was just insane. Yeah,
- 5:22Speaker 1: it was a horrible horrible, reckless guy. And the National
- 5:26Speaker 1: Transportation Safety Board report came out totally blamed all of
- 5:29Speaker 1: this him for everything. The family of the wife used
- 5:33Speaker 1: that report to sue the Kennedy's and they did get
- 5:35Speaker 1: I think twenty million in a settlement over it. Yeah, yeah,
- 5:39Speaker 1: all right, thanks for Colin. Let's go to Let's go
- 5:42Speaker 1: to Nolan in New Jersey. Nolan, how you're doing.
- 5:46Speaker 6: I'm good, mall.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Thanks.
- 5:47Speaker 4: I saw that Democratic governors like Mikey Sheryl they're gonna
- 5:51Speaker 4: fight Trump on a new executive voter or mail in
- 5:53Speaker 4: ballots that would require post Office to only send ballots
- 5:58Speaker 4: to eligible citizens. What could their argument be against Trump
- 6:01Speaker 4: on this?
- 6:02Speaker 1: Oh? Well, they will fight Trump on anything and everything.
- 6:05Speaker 1: If he says it's Friday, they will fight him on that.
- 6:07Speaker 1: They just fight Trump on anything. Listen to the words
- 6:11Speaker 1: of John Fetterman, who do you.
- 6:13Speaker 4: Think leads the Democratic Party today?
- 6:14Speaker 6: Oh?
- 6:15Speaker 3: We don't.
- 6:15Speaker 7: We don't have one. I think the TDS. I think
- 6:20Speaker 7: that's the leader right now. You know, right now our
- 6:24Speaker 7: party is governed by the TDS.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Trump derangement syndrome. That's all they got. That's what consumes them,
- 6:31Speaker 1: obsesses them. Twenty four to seven. Let's go to Vincent
- 6:34Speaker 1: and Brooklyn. Vincent, how you doing.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Good morning, Malcolm, Okay, good morning, Mara. I have to
- 6:41Speaker 3: respectfully disagree with Ed Rollins what he said about Trump's speech.
- 6:45Speaker 3: I thought it was one of Trump's better speeches. It
- 6:49Speaker 3: was very concise, he hit all the bullet points. And
- 6:53Speaker 3: also because of the time difference between New York and
- 6:57Speaker 3: in the middle of the country, people were just sitting
- 7:00Speaker 3: down to have their dinner and they heard Trump's speech
- 7:04Speaker 3: and all the reasons why we're there, mainly to save
- 7:08Speaker 3: our children and grandchildren from those maniacs flying intercontinental missiles
- 7:16Speaker 3: into our cities and everything. And I think Trump is
- 7:20Speaker 3: going to win on this whole ballroom issue because, as
- 7:23Speaker 3: you pointed out a number of years ago, about twenty
- 7:27Speaker 3: years ago, I went to it and was very The
- 7:29Speaker 3: people had money and everything. They weren't cheesy. I went
- 7:32Speaker 3: to an outdoor wedding out in Long Island. They had
- 7:36Speaker 3: those tents and canopies, and when the sun came went down,
- 7:40Speaker 3: the flies came out, the mosquitoes they were eating people alive.
- 7:45Speaker 3: They were everywhere. I mean, it was horrible. I mean,
- 7:48Speaker 3: you want to compare that with in Europe and especially
- 7:52Speaker 3: in Italy and France when they have these state dinners there,
- 7:56Speaker 3: you were huge, huge ballrooms, you mongish beautiful palaces and everything.
- 8:03Speaker 3: And you're gonna have people the stupid judge in Washington,
- 8:07Speaker 3: You're gonna have people going and porter sands on the
- 8:10Speaker 3: lawn where women wearing full length gowns and heels and
- 8:14Speaker 3: people dressed to the nine. What's the matter with this
- 8:17Speaker 3: judge just because he looks like some pig from uh M,
- 8:20Speaker 3: PR and PR and PBS with that both eye on
- 8:24Speaker 3: and it's all, can't Donald Trump just ignore that ortum up?
- 8:28Speaker 1: Well, we'll see he's gonna appeal. It'll go to another
- 8:30Speaker 1: corn Vincent, great call, thanks for calling Hill the Hill appeal. Yeah,
- 8:36Speaker 1: that's another Vincent makes a great point there. When you
- 8:38Speaker 1: the White House doing these massive dinners out on the
- 8:41Speaker 1: lawn in a tent, you're right in the summer. It's
- 8:43Speaker 1: too hot, it's too windy, it's raining, there's flies everywhere.
- 8:47Speaker 1: It's ridiculous. Hey, Steve Cuzo, the great New York Post commist,
- 8:51Speaker 1: writes about restaurants and real estate. How's New York doing?
- 8:55Speaker 3: Uh?
- 8:56Speaker 1: How's the real estate situation? How's the restaurant. We'll get
- 8:59Speaker 1: told of that coming up next on seven ten WR
