- 1:02Join us in this broadcast, The Invitation, as Kim Miller brings us a message
- 1:07out of Hebrews 4, 14-16, which say, Seeing then that we have a great high priest
- 1:14that is passed into the heavens, Jesus,
- 1:17the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
- 1:20For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our
- 1:25infirmities, but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
- 1:30Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy
- 1:35and find grace to help in time of need.
- 1:38Thank you for joining us in this broadcast of Woman at the Well Ministries,
- 1:42and what an absolute pleasure it is to speak to you on this point we are going
- 1:47to ponder, which is we are invited to the throne of God to find help in time of need.
- 1:53What an invitation we have. We have been invited by Jesus, the King of kings,
- 2:00the Lord of lords, the supreme authority of all things has invited us.
- 2:06His children, those who believe in Jesus Christ to come to the throne of God
- 2:12that we might obtain help in time of need.
- 2:15Let us pray our kind and most gracious to heavenly father lord We just thank
- 2:20you for this another opportunity to come before you lord.
- 2:23We thank you for your love and your mercy We thank you for your grace and lord.
- 2:26We thank you for your just absolute desire That we would be in your presence Lord,
- 2:32we're thankful that you have asked us to come That we might bring to you the
- 2:37things that we have need of that we might place our trust in you that you might feel those needs.
- 2:43And that you would give us the grace and the mercy and all that we need.
- 2:47Lord, I ask that you would be with each of us as we look through your word today,
- 2:51that you would make Hebrews chapter 4 just illuminate in ways in our heart and
- 2:55mind that it's never done before.
- 2:58Lord, I pray that it would change our hearts and change our minds,
- 3:02that we would have a stronger faith and a greater walk for thee.
- 3:06In Jesus' name we pray, and all of God's people said, Amen. in.
- 3:11I love that he says, seeing that we have a great high priest,
- 3:15we have someone that we can come to that is great.
- 3:19We're not asked to come and give our burdens to someone who's mediocre.
- 3:25We're not asked to give our burdens to someone who is not powerful and not knowing,
- 3:31but we're asked to come to the great high priest, the son of God.
- 3:35And he says, let us hold fast our profession. You know, I thought about that for a while.
- 3:40What could it possibly mean when he says, let us hold fast our profession?
- 3:45You see, when we come to the throne of God, we must come believing in who he
- 3:50is, because he will diligently reward them that believe in who he is.
- 3:56And when we come to his throne, we need to come knowing that when we give him
- 4:01our burden, he is going to do something with it that is right.
- 4:05And that in fact he has invited us
- 4:08to give him our burden and he gives us
- 4:11something that is light and that we will receive
- 4:14that help that we need when we come but
- 4:17we must come to that throne in faith believing the bible says in first peter
- 4:23chapter 3 and verse 15 but sanctify the lord god in your hearts and be ready
- 4:28always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that
- 4:33is in you with meekness and fear.
- 4:36We're not to use the Bible as a weapon, slicing people's hearts and emotions.
- 4:41We are to use the Bible in meekness that we can come to them and let them know
- 4:47who Christ is and that he is the bomb of Gilead and that he is the supplier
- 4:52of all our needs and that we know who he is and we have a hope.
- 4:57Not that we're finding whether it'll be or won't be. Not that kind of hope, like a hope it works.
- 5:03No, the hope that gives us courage. the hope
- 5:06that is a sure thing i know and i
- 5:09know in my heart i know from the depths of my
- 5:12heart from the very being of my soul that jesus
- 5:15loves me and that he hears me when i pray
- 5:18and that he wants to prosper me and give me a hope
- 5:21that's what his bible says and
- 5:25that's that strong profession that we need
- 5:27to hold fast on and then i believe that
- 5:30it it refers back to matthew chapter 5
- 5:34when he says to us in verses 14 through 16
- 5:37that we're to be the light of the world we don't
- 5:40light a candle and put it under a bushel but on a candlestick and it gives light
- 5:44to all that are in the house and then he gives us this direction let your light
- 5:50so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your father
- 5:55which is in heaven that's holding fast our profession.
- 5:59Never wavering but holding it out
- 6:02there for the world to see i am god of hope it doesn't matter what's going on
- 6:07around me the world may seem to be falling apart but jesus loves me this i know
- 6:13and i am on solid ground and all is well with me and my soul and jesus has me
- 6:19i'm in the cleft of the rock of the hand of God,
- 6:22and nothing can remove me.
- 6:25That's holding fast and steady to our commitment to God. The Bible says in 2 Timothy 1.12,
- 6:34For the which cause I also suffer these things, nevertheless I'm not ashamed.
- 6:38That means we have a hope in Christ. We're willing to stand by him because I
- 6:44promise you he will always stand by you.
- 6:47And then it says, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is
- 6:53able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
- 6:57That is a steadfast commitment to God.
- 7:00That is a steadfast profession. and in
- 7:03this verse in Hebrews chapter 4 and
- 7:0614 that is what he says he says
- 7:09let us hold fast our profession and then
- 7:12he explains to us why we should because he
- 7:15says we don't have a high priest that can't be touched with the filling of our.
- 7:19Infirmities do you understand we've been invited to the throne of God to give
- 7:24him our burdens to tell him what's on our heart because we know that he can
- 7:29fix them. We know he can answer that prayer.
- 7:32But let me tell you something you may not have thought of.
- 7:35He also understands. So when you speak to him, he gets why it's a burden for you.
- 7:42Even your closest friends and companions may not understand why something is bothering you.
- 7:49It doesn't change the fact that it's bothering you, but they don't get it.
- 7:53But when you come to the king of kings and the lord of lords.
- 7:58He is not only able to do that which you ask, but he understands.
- 8:04He's been there. He's done that.
- 8:08He gets it, and he invites us to come.
- 8:12You may receive many invitations into your life from many different events,
- 8:18and the world may think that you're something special for some of those events
- 8:23that you're invited to attend,
- 8:25but you will never be invited to attend an event as powerful, as amazing,
- 8:34and as rewarding as the event you're invited to time and time again in Hebrews
- 8:43chapter 4 verses 14 through 16.
- 8:46For he says, let us come therefore boldly to the throne of grace.
- 8:51Do you get it? Because you've placed your faith in Jesus Christ,
- 8:55you've allowed him to come into your life.
- 8:57You've allowed his sinless perfect blood to wash away your sins though they were scarlet.
- 9:02They're now white as No, because you have done that, you have a standing invitation
- 9:07to come to the Father. And he says, come boldly.
- 9:11Don't come meek and mild as if you don't belong there.
- 9:15Don't come as if you don't think anything's going to happen once you get there.
- 9:19You come boldly because you have authority through Jesus Christ who lives in
- 9:23you to come to him and to bring him your burden and to fully expect him to let
- 9:29you leave it there and walk away fully assured that all is well and Jesus has
- 9:36you. What an invitation.
- 9:39He says for us to come boldly. In Matthew 7, 7, he also gives us that same sort
- 9:45of invitation when he says, ask and it shall be given you. Seek and ye shall find.
- 9:50Knock and it shall be opened unto you. He's telling you, come.
- 9:54Come to the throne knowing with a steadfast profession that all is going to
- 10:00be well when you leave there.
- 10:01Now, does that mean you're going to get what you asked for?
- 10:04No, it doesn't. Because oftentimes, we don't know what is best.
- 10:09You see, we're like that person who has the one piece of the puzzle and all
- 10:15they can see is the one little piece and it doesn't look like much.
- 10:20But then when you place that one little piece in that whole puzzle and you step
- 10:24back and look at the whole puzzle, you can see how it all fit.
- 10:28Maybe it was a rough, ugly edge. Maybe it was something that just when you looked
- 10:33at it, didn't even have any appealing color.
- 10:35But when you laid it in the major plan of where it fit it created a beautiful beautiful scene,
- 10:43and sometimes that's our life we're in a place and we just think we have the
- 10:47answers well i got news for you if we had the answers we'd be god and we're
- 10:50not god and he says to come to him we are to give him his burden we are to follow
- 10:55his direction and he says that he has a plan for us to give us a hope and an expected end.
- 11:01And maybe you've come to the Lord time after time after time,
- 11:05and you've asked him to relieve something out of your life, and you leave,
- 11:09and it never goes away, and you're thinking, this God is not hearing me. Yes, he is.
- 11:14And it has been sifted through his nail-scarred hands that were scarred because of his love for you.
- 11:20And he hasn't forgotten that love for you.
- 11:22That love is as strong today as it's ever been, and it was strong enough to
- 11:26hold him on the cross. I promise you it's strong enough for him to look through
- 11:30what is in your life, that he's allowed to be in there, and he has a plan,
- 11:34and whatever that is, is for your good.
- 11:37The Bible says in Romans chapter 8 that all things work to the good to them
- 11:41that love the Lord, to them that are called according to his purpose.
- 11:44His ways are not our ways, but his ways are right ways. And when we get our
- 11:48heart right with God, we'll be okay with the answer he gives.
- 11:52You see, the Bible says in James chapter 1 and verse 6,
- 11:55but let him ask in faith nothing wavering
- 11:58for he that wavers is like the wave of the sea driven with
- 12:01the wind tossed hold fast and understand
- 12:04that he is god he supplies your
- 12:07every need and in james chapter 4 and verse 2 he says
- 12:11you have not because you ask not
- 12:13see we have that standing invitation to
- 12:17god and he has blessings to give us in
- 12:19fact the psalmist david says that daily he loadeth us with
- 12:22his blessings but we're not even there talking
- 12:25to him to receive what he has for us but i
- 12:29want you to know something in this great invitation
- 12:32that he gives us in hebrews chapter 4 verses 14 through 16 he says that we can
- 12:37obtain help in time of need he further reiterizes that in philippians 4 19 when
- 12:43he says but my god shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
- 12:51The point I want you to ponder as we leave this time together today is this.
- 12:56We are invited to the throne of God to find help in time of need.
- 13:02Turn to Jesus. His eyes are upon you.
