- 0:42Speaker 1: Welcome to the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest
- 0:45Speaker 1: running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the world, twelve
- 0:49Speaker 1: years strong. We've got a great show for you this week.
- 0:51Speaker 1: I'm Jeff Warren. Here are my buddy Len Hunsicker, Buddy Man.
- 0:54Speaker 1: How you doing doing?
- 0:56Speaker 2: Just wonderful?
- 0:57Speaker 3: How are you all right?
- 0:59Speaker 1: Is September tenth, twenty twenty five that we are recording.
- 1:04Speaker 1: This a very bizarre day in a lot of ways,
- 1:08Speaker 1: politically in this country and in terms of, you know,
- 1:11Speaker 1: the sports world. We're gonna be diving into some Phillies talk.
- 1:15Speaker 1: I'll say that right off the bat, Len, because that's
- 1:17Speaker 1: what we are, a sports podcast.
- 1:18Speaker 3: We are a sports podcast first and.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Foremost, and we should talk about the Phillies because they're
- 1:23Speaker 2: absolutely rolling right now.
- 1:24Speaker 3: They're rolling, and we're going to dive into them for sure.
- 1:26Speaker 1: We got some Eagles talk on the way, Jalen Carter's
- 1:29Speaker 1: going to be playing, Howie Roseman made another trade, going
- 1:32Speaker 1: to get into some storylines before the Week two game
- 1:35Speaker 1: against the Kansas City Chiefs. We're also going to dive
- 1:37Speaker 1: into the Philadelphia Union. I haven't talked about them too much,
- 1:41Speaker 1: but Philadelphia Union are on a roll right now as well.
- 1:45Speaker 1: There's good things happening in the world of Philly sports.
- 1:49Speaker 1: The NBA season is upon us and it's been a
- 1:52Speaker 1: very interesting offseason, a lot of interesting offseason storylines, and
- 1:56Speaker 1: the one Len and I are going to be diving
- 1:57Speaker 1: into is the Kawhi Leonard and La Clippers fiasco with
- 2:03Speaker 1: regard to circumventing the salary cap. And then what we're
- 2:06Speaker 1: gonna be throwing down on the table. We've got our
- 2:09Speaker 1: good friend Quab from the Dime with Josh and Quab podcast.
- 2:12Speaker 1: He's gonna jump on to dive into some more NBA
- 2:15Speaker 1: off season storylines that we're keeping our eyes on here.
- 2:19Speaker 1: So len, uh, let's start talking about this Philadelphia Phillies
- 2:23Speaker 1: team right off the bat, like we're we're getting into it.
- 2:26Speaker 1: I know, usually we do like an intro where we
- 2:28Speaker 1: get into some personal stuff and everything. But man, the
- 2:32Speaker 1: biggest story this past week in the world of Philly
- 2:35Speaker 1: sports and in the sports world in general, was the
- 2:39Speaker 1: Phillies Karen who took the kids ball away. We're getting
- 2:44Speaker 1: to the point where some are saying that the Phillies
- 2:47Speaker 1: Karen and if you're I know, you're really not on
- 2:49Speaker 1: social media anymore, but the memes out there have been hilarious,
- 2:54Speaker 1: and the fact that some are saying that she's probably
- 2:57Speaker 1: gonna be the easiest and best Halloween cost doom this season.
- 3:01Speaker 1: I've actually seen some of the there's some great memes
- 3:04Speaker 1: like yeah, spirits to do.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:07Speaker 1: So then nothing ceases to amaze me anymore in society.
- 3:12Speaker 1: You know again, we're recording this on Wednesday, September tenth.
- 3:17Speaker 1: There's a lot going on in the world, lock going
- 3:19Speaker 1: on in the United States, in this country, and Philly's
- 3:22Speaker 1: Karen this past week didn't cease to amaze me. The
- 3:25Speaker 1: poor guy and his kids and absolutely scared with this
- 3:29Speaker 1: woman coming right up to him demanding that ball.
- 3:31Speaker 3: That home, Bren, that's my ball. You took by ball?
- 3:36Speaker 4: What I saw.
- 3:39Speaker 2: You could take your kid to any concession stand or
- 3:44Speaker 2: or merchandise stand and just get them something to make
- 3:47Speaker 2: them completely happy.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely, yes.
- 3:50Speaker 2: You can. You can readdirect a kid's focus. Yes, it's
- 3:53Speaker 2: not that hard, It really isn't. So yeah, I don't
- 3:57Speaker 2: I don't understand what's happened in there with Philly's Karen
- 4:01Speaker 2: where my wife said she saw something today where they
- 4:04Speaker 2: called her Cruella to Phil, Yes to Phil, is the
- 4:07Speaker 2: new name. Yeah, which is which is pretty awesome too.
- 4:11Speaker 2: I gotta say I do like that.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I nothing surprises me with people anymore. Seriously, I mean,
- 4:18Speaker 1: you're you're you're diving for a home run ball like
- 4:22Speaker 1: is done all the time in sports and or baseball.
- 4:25Speaker 2: I should say.
- 4:26Speaker 1: It's done all the time. And you know what, if
- 4:28Speaker 1: you get the ball, fantastic.
- 4:30Speaker 3: If you don't, it stinks.
- 4:31Speaker 1: It's it's the it's what happens in a baseball game.
- 4:35Speaker 1: And for this woman to get so incensed to just
- 4:39Speaker 1: go up to this guy, take him by his shoulder
- 4:42Speaker 1: seriously and just start yelling at him, like pointing and
- 4:45Speaker 1: yelling at him that was my ball.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Holy if this.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Dude like knocked her over or knocked her kid over
- 4:52Speaker 2: right by all means fair, absolute game, you know, go
- 4:55Speaker 2: get him. But yeah, like for a ball. It's it's
- 4:59Speaker 2: just a dumb.
- 5:00Speaker 1: It really And I know we're smiling, we're laughing about it,
- 5:03Speaker 1: but it's just it's a reflection of so much that
- 5:06Speaker 1: goes on with with self centered, horrendous people that are
- 5:10Speaker 1: out there.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we hate yeah, I just.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Look at stuff.
- 5:15Speaker 1: I forgot to put the banner up here for God's sake,
- 5:17Speaker 1: I finally put the banner up here for everybody. She's
- 5:20Speaker 1: one of the most hateable individuals in the sports world. Like,
- 5:23Speaker 1: can you can you imagine that though you just don't
- 5:28Speaker 1: know what's gonna happen to your life based on a
- 5:32Speaker 1: split second decision, the fact that you know what you're
- 5:35Speaker 1: gonna You're gonna go to a baseball game, you know
- 5:37Speaker 1: whether you're there with your friends or your family, and
- 5:40Speaker 1: you get so emotionally upset about something that happens, you
- 5:45Speaker 1: make a decision that's not the best decision, and your
- 5:48Speaker 1: life actually changes forever because you're made into memes. You
- 5:53Speaker 1: are just thrown throughout the Internet for everybody to see
- 5:57Speaker 1: and for everybody to hate on you. People wanting to
- 5:59Speaker 1: get you five from your job, people just wanting to
- 6:02Speaker 1: find out who you are so they can harass you.
- 6:06Speaker 2: That's our Yeah, Like if this happens in nineteen eighty six, yeah,
- 6:11Speaker 2: I mean nothing, maybe it gets on Sports Center and
- 6:14Speaker 2: then maybe you know, for like a ten second clip
- 6:18Speaker 2: and then nobody ever thinks about it ever again. Yeah,
- 6:20Speaker 2: but now we have this thing where people can just
- 6:23Speaker 2: do their you know, do investigations into people. And I'm
- 6:26Speaker 2: going to find out who this person is. I'm going
- 6:28Speaker 2: to find out where they work, where they live, and
- 6:30Speaker 2: it just and I'm not you know, she's an idiot,
- 6:33Speaker 2: so you know, I don't I'm not defending her by
- 6:36Speaker 2: any stretch, but it's just like, man, you really like
- 6:42Speaker 2: can't do anything anymore.
- 6:44Speaker 3: You can't. There are cameras everywhere in folks. Yeah, realize that, Yes.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Everybody has one. Everybody has one on them at all times.
- 6:53Speaker 1: And they're up in the sky too sometimes or on
- 6:55Speaker 1: buildings or wherever.
- 6:57Speaker 3: You know.
- 6:57Speaker 2: That's why, Like I'm like, how are people still out
- 7:00Speaker 2: there committing crimes? Yeah, their cameras everywhere? Like where where
- 7:04Speaker 2: do you like, where do you think you're going to
- 7:06Speaker 2: commit a crime And it's not going to be yeah somewhere.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Like, I just don't get it.
- 7:12Speaker 1: I don't get it either. And you know what I
- 7:14Speaker 1: another thing that I don't get at times is we're
- 7:16Speaker 1: moving along here is how some people have hated the
- 7:19Speaker 1: Phillies during the course.
- 7:22Speaker 2: I mean, I think we've all had our moments. I
- 7:25Speaker 2: think that series in New York, yes, I think we
- 7:28Speaker 2: were all kind of on edge.
- 7:29Speaker 1: But this Met series fantastic. I mean the Phillies are
- 7:32Speaker 1: closing our season strong when they have now won, yes,
- 7:36Speaker 1: seven straight series. They've won seven straight series. They are
- 7:41Speaker 1: hot right now. I love where they are at here
- 7:45Speaker 1: in September heading into what is going to be a
- 7:48Speaker 1: fun postseason. I think they're in a very different spot
- 7:52Speaker 1: this year than they were last year. Last year that
- 7:54Speaker 1: they were they were putting around and it was like
- 7:56Speaker 1: it was like the car just you know, getting up
- 7:59Speaker 1: to the gas station and it's kind of putt putt,
- 8:02Speaker 1: putton because it's losing gas. That's how the Phillies were
- 8:06Speaker 1: last September. If you remember, they didn't seem strong. They
- 8:11Speaker 1: just seemed like they were kind of just floating. This
- 8:14Speaker 1: is a strong team heading into this October postseason, and
- 8:17Speaker 1: I it is really good to see because we were
- 8:19Speaker 1: getting concerned there for a while. Yes, yeah, yes, ups
- 8:23Speaker 1: and downs, but I am I am feeling very confident
- 8:26Speaker 1: at this point.
- 8:26Speaker 2: What are you thinking? Yeah, I mean ten and three
- 8:29Speaker 2: in their last thirteen games, and you know, you you lose,
- 8:34Speaker 2: and that's the thing. It's like, you know, you lose
- 8:37Speaker 2: your your best pitcher in Zach Wheeler. Yep, now you've
- 8:40Speaker 2: lost Trey Turner. Until it looks like he's going to
- 8:44Speaker 2: be out until the beginning of the playoffs. Alec Bowm
- 8:46Speaker 2: is on the IL for you know, probably sure than that,
- 8:50Speaker 2: but still that's another bat that's out of your lineup.
- 8:53Speaker 2: But you know, they've they've been carried. I mean, I
- 8:56Speaker 2: feel like every time I watch a Phillies game, Harrison
- 8:59Speaker 2: Bader's get and two hits. Brandon Marsh has been hot
- 9:03Speaker 2: as hell recently, Scott has been hitting over three hundred
- 9:06Speaker 2: since the All Star break. And guys that you know,
- 9:08Speaker 2: we were like, oh god, these are these guys aren't
- 9:11Speaker 2: regulars on a championship level team. Yeah, they're They're coming
- 9:15Speaker 2: through for this team big time right now. And then
- 9:17Speaker 2: on the pitching side, Sanchez has been Sanchez all year long,
- 9:21Speaker 2: and Suarez, I think his last four starts like four
- 9:23Speaker 2: and oh zero point eighty eight e r A. I
- 9:26Speaker 2: think that was coming to last night's game and he
- 9:28Speaker 2: you know, he pitched great last night. So I mean,
- 9:32Speaker 2: just they're they're firing on all cylinders right now. You
- 9:35Speaker 2: just hope that they can carry this momentum into the
- 9:38Speaker 2: playoffs and not like.
- 9:40Speaker 4: Not like that.
- 9:41Speaker 2: They're they're peaking now and then they're going to come
- 9:43Speaker 2: down during the playoffs. But I mean they've beaten some
- 9:46Speaker 2: good teams. They if they can beat the Mets tomorrow night,
- 9:49Speaker 2: they sweep them. I mean they took two out of
- 9:51Speaker 2: three from the Brewers, the best team in the NL
- 9:54Speaker 2: right now record wise, in Milwaukee. So I mean there's
- 9:57Speaker 2: a lot to be said for the way they're playing
- 9:59Speaker 2: right now. It's absolutely been wonderful to see and I
- 10:02Speaker 2: think I want to recognize to it. I mentioned this
- 10:05Speaker 2: to our good friend Justin Klue from a Baseball Prospectus
- 10:09Speaker 2: and the Hitting Season podcast. You know, we love having
- 10:11Speaker 2: Justin on, but I think it was that conversation where
- 10:14Speaker 2: I said, you know, I think we need to at
- 10:16Speaker 2: times give Dave Dombrowski some credit when it is due,
- 10:20Speaker 2: and I think it's absolutely due in terms of his
- 10:23Speaker 2: movie made before the trade deadline.
- 10:25Speaker 1: In terms of Harrison Bader, yeah, we looked last year like, look,
- 10:29Speaker 1: the Austin Hayes experiment did not work last year. It
- 10:34Speaker 1: just it sucked.
- 10:35Speaker 3: It didn't.
- 10:36Speaker 1: But the Harrison Bader trade has worked out so well
- 10:40Speaker 1: for this team. And in terms of outfield platoons, we're
- 10:43Speaker 1: talking about a team with metrics that are within like
- 10:47Speaker 1: the top six of the National League from I read
- 10:51Speaker 1: a tweet earlier today, different metrics the Phillies outfield platoon.
- 10:56Speaker 1: It's working, and it's been working because of Harrison Bader
- 10:59Speaker 1: being there. And I think we got to give Dave
- 11:00Speaker 1: Dombrowski some credit and for him being able to keep
- 11:04Speaker 1: this team an organization, give the challenges, the injuries. You
- 11:07Speaker 1: were just talking about keeping this team relevant and where
- 11:10Speaker 1: they're not dipping so much based on these challenges.
- 11:14Speaker 2: We got to give him credit. Yeah, and give him
- 11:18Speaker 2: credit and give Batter credit. I mean, this guy has
- 11:21Speaker 2: so far exceeded my expectations since when they brought him in,
- 11:26Speaker 2: because he was always a guy who was like, Okay,
- 11:28Speaker 2: great glove and center field, not going to get much
- 11:31Speaker 2: out of him with the bat. Like I said, I
- 11:33Speaker 2: feel like every time I watch a Phillies game, he's
- 11:35Speaker 2: getting two or three hits. Did it again tonight? So
- 11:39Speaker 2: you know it just he's and he seems like a
- 11:42Speaker 2: guy that, like, okay, turners out for the foreseeable. You
- 11:46Speaker 2: can plug him in the top of your lineup and
- 11:48Speaker 2: he's getting walks, he's getting on base, he's he's doing
- 11:52Speaker 2: what you need him to do. Yeah, all while playing
- 11:54Speaker 2: you know, a strong center field as as was his
- 11:57Speaker 2: calling card. So I mean, man, you want to talk
- 12:00Speaker 2: about a move that has turned out, Uh, that's Harrison
- 12:04Speaker 2: Vader's a definition of that right now.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Absolutely, And look, before we get into some Eagles talk here, Lynn,
- 12:09Speaker 1: I would be remissed if I did not mention some
- 12:11Speaker 1: of the entertainment that's been going on in the Phillies clubhouse.
- 12:14Speaker 1: When you have guys farting and Aaron Nola's cracking up
- 12:17Speaker 1: during interviews. I mean, the entertainment that's being provided is
- 12:21Speaker 1: really incredible. And I say this is for some who
- 12:24Speaker 1: I know hate farts, you hate for art.
- 12:26Speaker 2: For some maybe, I mean to me, it's just it's
- 12:30Speaker 2: just a lack of class.
- 12:32Speaker 3: What do you call people who fart animals? I believe
- 12:34Speaker 3: you've called them in the past.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Yes, So it's everybody who's listening to this podcast right now,
- 12:43Speaker 1: but not I have heard.
- 12:45Speaker 3: You far before, though, I really have.
- 12:49Speaker 1: I promise I'm not going to say the situation, but
- 12:52Speaker 1: I have heard you beef, my friend.
- 12:54Speaker 3: All right, We're are gonna move on to some Eagles talk. Now.
- 13:00Speaker 1: What a start to the season when your all star
- 13:03Speaker 1: defensive player gets ejected for spitting on somebody. But as
- 13:07Speaker 1: we know, the news came out today that Jalen Carter
- 13:10Speaker 1: was fined fined for a game fifty seven, two hundred
- 13:14Speaker 1: and twenty two dollars. Interesting figure there, but he was
- 13:17Speaker 1: fined and he's not going to miss any playing time.
- 13:20Speaker 1: NFL saying that the game he missed, yes, it's time served.
- 13:25Speaker 1: So I I really think that his lack of presence
- 13:29Speaker 1: being out there contributed to part of what we saw
- 13:32Speaker 1: in the defense, whether it was you know, rust in
- 13:36Speaker 1: a way that I talked about, or just his presence,
- 13:39Speaker 1: like putting so much more pressure on Jordan Davis, because
- 13:42Speaker 1: Jordan Davis almost played one hundred percent of the snaps
- 13:46Speaker 1: at that point when he never has before. In fact,
- 13:49Speaker 1: Vic Fangio said if he didn't lose the weight that
- 13:52Speaker 1: he lost during the offseason, he wouldn't have been able
- 13:55Speaker 1: to do what he did during Week one. So Jordan
- 13:56Speaker 1: Davis really was a savior. But we gotta have Jalen
- 13:59Speaker 1: carr her out there for a lot of different reasons,
- 14:02Speaker 1: not just run stoppage and trying to rush the passer,
- 14:06Speaker 1: but also how it helps the secondary. And we're gonna
- 14:09Speaker 1: get into some secondary talking a bit here, but.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Small detail of him being literally your best defensive.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Your best defensive player, exactly that that old thing. Yes, so,
- 14:21Speaker 1: Jalen Carter, let's not spit on anybody in front of
- 14:24Speaker 1: a referee anymore, dude, I was.
- 14:27Speaker 3: So pissed off at that. I was so pissed off.
- 14:29Speaker 3: I'm sure you.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Yeah. My wife was watching the game with me, and
- 14:35Speaker 2: I'm pretty laid back in general. Yeah, she saw. I
- 14:41Speaker 2: saw her eyes get big at a couple of points.
- 14:45Speaker 2: I think. I don't know if we're gonna have to
- 14:47Speaker 2: bleep this out or whatever.
- 14:48Speaker 3: No, we don't know.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Okay, good because I may have said the words you
- 14:52Speaker 2: stupid motherfucker probably about five times within a twenty second span. Yeah, yeah, yeah, right, paw,
- 15:01Speaker 2: how do you do that?
- 15:02Speaker 1: Yeah, it's I don't know if seriously, you try to
- 15:07Speaker 1: get in the brain of people sometimes when they're making
- 15:10Speaker 1: decisions in the moment.
- 15:11Speaker 3: I mean, was there so much like.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Why not, like why not just say okay, you know, okay,
- 15:16Speaker 2: Dak spit in your general direction, and he shouldn't have
- 15:18Speaker 2: been near their huddle in the first place. Absolutely, he's
- 15:20Speaker 2: maybe trying to intimidate or whatever, So like, okay, he
- 15:23Speaker 2: spitching in your direction. Okay, fine, I'm gonna do everything
- 15:26Speaker 2: I can to break this fucking guy's leg during Again,
- 15:29Speaker 2: I won't spit on him, but I am going to
- 15:32Speaker 2: destroy this guy at some point in this game.
- 15:35Speaker 3: Exactly. I'm gonna bust those secking ribs.
- 15:37Speaker 2: That's how you do it.
- 15:38Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Well, thankfully we're going to see him on the field
- 15:43Speaker 1: against the Kansas City Chiefs this coming Sunday.
- 15:47Speaker 3: It's going to be the Chief's home opener.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I got a bad feeling about the game, to be honest,
- 15:51Speaker 1: just because I mean, it's on the road against the
- 15:53Speaker 1: Chiefs in their house, Arrowhead Stadium.
- 15:56Speaker 3: Tough place to play.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Then again, the Eagles are defending Super Bowl champions and
- 15:59Speaker 1: jayl and Carter is going to be out there. But
- 16:02Speaker 1: I have to say, in the first game of the season,
- 16:05Speaker 1: a lot of teams were like this too. Even the
- 16:08Speaker 1: Chiefs were themselves looking like they were trying to get
- 16:12Speaker 1: the rust off on both offense and defense.
- 16:15Speaker 2: You know, I'm curious. I know Kelsey ran into Worthy
- 16:19Speaker 2: and knocked him out of the game. Yeah, I don't
- 16:21Speaker 2: know if Worthy is Is he playing.
- 16:23Speaker 3: In this I don't think he's going to be playing.
- 16:24Speaker 3: I don't believe.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Because that's kind of because they don't have him. They
- 16:28Speaker 2: still don't have Rashid Rice, right right, Yeah, So there's
- 16:30Speaker 2: your top two receivers right there against a team, you know,
- 16:34Speaker 2: against an Eagles team who were kind of starting to
- 16:38Speaker 2: feel a little iffy on the secondary. Well, I mean, great,
- 16:40Speaker 2: segue could be a huge help.
- 16:43Speaker 1: So absolutely, Look, Dori Jackson appears that he's going to
- 16:47Speaker 1: be starting this Sunday in Kansas City, pervict Fangio.
- 16:51Speaker 3: Then again, Fangio wasn't the.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Most confident in his press conference this week talking about Jackson.
- 16:58Speaker 1: But I think we're going to see a Dori jacks
- 17:00Speaker 1: And again, and it's just I'm baffled by I'm baffled
- 17:05Speaker 1: len by this cornerback two position. When re signing Isaiah
- 17:11Speaker 1: Rodgers was the right move to make, and a lot
- 17:13Speaker 1: of us knew it at the time, and we've all
- 17:15Speaker 1: kind of been just waiting for this shoot a drop
- 17:18Speaker 1: of the awfulness of what we saw at the cornerback
- 17:21Speaker 1: two position. There's something needs to be done, as something
- 17:25Speaker 1: needs to be done outside of just okay, we're going
- 17:28Speaker 1: to hope that a Dori Jackson, who's a veteran in
- 17:31Speaker 1: this league is going to somehow quote get it. I'm concerned.
- 17:35Speaker 1: We've talked about it how many times on the show.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Now it's we're seeing it right out of the gate.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Yeah, And I mean if a Dori Jackson is your starter,
- 17:44Speaker 2: that is clearly by default. I mean that's because you
- 17:48Speaker 2: don't have anybody else to put in that role. So yeah,
- 17:51Speaker 2: I don't know, they're gonna have to figure out something.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Where is Slade? Did he retire or is he on
- 17:57Speaker 2: another team?
- 17:58Speaker 3: No, he is with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Oh they released him.
- 18:01Speaker 3: Remember they released him to get get some salary cap space.
- 18:04Speaker 2: And okay, yeah, I didn't know if he was just
- 18:08Speaker 2: retired and they could say, hey, nah, nah, what do
- 18:11Speaker 2: you think? Okay with the steel I didn't know where
- 18:13Speaker 2: he ended up.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, Well I I found interesting also this past week,
- 18:19Speaker 1: you know, it was it was just yesterday actually when
- 18:23Speaker 1: I got a notification on my phone that said the
- 18:26Speaker 1: Eagles have now traded for Tank Bigsby running back with
- 18:32Speaker 1: the Jacksonville Jaguars, And I'm like, what the hell is
- 18:36Speaker 1: going on here with this? But yes, we know he's
- 18:38Speaker 1: been a very very very serviceable running back for Jacksonville
- 18:44Speaker 1: and as well as a kick returner punt returner as well.
- 18:48Speaker 1: He's a return guy. Give up a fifth round pick,
- 18:51Speaker 1: sixth round pick for him? I I kind of I'm
- 18:55Speaker 1: kind of like, I'm kind of like, meh with this
- 18:58Speaker 1: pick or with this transaction and with this trade.
- 19:01Speaker 3: Is that how you're feeling at this point?
- 19:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I'm not gonna lie. I kind of
- 19:06Speaker 2: like will Shipley me too. I don't really. I mean,
- 19:11Speaker 2: if he's your backup, I mean I like what I've
- 19:13Speaker 2: seen out of him. I mean, maybe it's more of
- 19:16Speaker 2: a kick return, punt return thing, and maybe that's why
- 19:18Speaker 2: they brought Biggs b in. And if that's the case,
- 19:20Speaker 2: then okay. I mean if he's if he's better at
- 19:24Speaker 2: it than anybody they have, then you know, I'm fine
- 19:26Speaker 2: with that. I just felt like an ad they didn't
- 19:30Speaker 2: necessarily need to make. Yeah, I don't know, I don't know.
- 19:35Speaker 2: It seemed odd to me.
- 19:36Speaker 1: I looked at it like I initially thought, I'm like, man,
- 19:39Speaker 1: why did they give up two picks? And then I'm
- 19:40Speaker 1: thinking to myself, Okay, they have a ton of picks
- 19:44Speaker 1: next year, you know they have.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Yeah, you can afford to do that. I just my
- 19:49Speaker 2: first thought was like, oh my god, what's wrong with Saquan?
- 19:52Speaker 2: Why are they trading for another running back? Exactly? That
- 19:54Speaker 2: was my my Did I miss something?
- 19:56Speaker 1: But yeah, no, Yeah, aside from thinking what I just mentioned,
- 20:02Speaker 1: like it, I think that's a lot for a backup
- 20:05Speaker 1: at a non premium position who really doesn't catch passes,
- 20:09Speaker 1: you know, especially considering how much Philly already has invested
- 20:14Speaker 1: at the running back position with Saquon Barkley.
- 20:17Speaker 3: So it was kind of kind of bizarre. But we know,
- 20:20Speaker 3: we know that how.
- 20:21Speaker 1: He likes to take on these type of trades when
- 20:25Speaker 1: he finds value for the team if the team can
- 20:28Speaker 1: get better. I don't know how much better the team is.
- 20:31Speaker 1: If I had to give this trade a grade, I
- 20:33Speaker 1: would probably give it a C C plus somewhere around there?
- 20:37Speaker 1: Are you thinking the same?
- 20:40Speaker 2: I mean, I guess I don't know just yet, but
- 20:44Speaker 2: I don't know. If you're going to make a trade,
- 20:47Speaker 2: maybe trade for a corner, I don't know, Maybe focus
- 20:52Speaker 2: your efforts there.
- 20:53Speaker 3: That really would be nice, right yeah.
- 20:55Speaker 2: You know, maybe a position to need who knows.
- 20:58Speaker 3: He's smart, if you really smart?
- 21:01Speaker 1: Right, well, folks, we're gonna take a break before we
- 21:06Speaker 1: get into some Philadelphia Union talk. Then we're gonna dive
- 21:09Speaker 1: into some NBA off season talk. But before we do that, folks,
- 21:14Speaker 1: we want to let you know where you can find
- 21:16Speaker 1: us on the social media platforms out there. We are
- 21:20Speaker 1: on except for Len Lens, like, forget this, forget social media, but.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Leave social media. It will make your lives so much better.
- 21:31Speaker 1: I mean, really, have you have? Has it been like
- 21:34Speaker 1: a stress reliever for you just being off as many.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Months as Yeah? I dude, I love it. I love
- 21:41Speaker 2: not being on Twitter anymore. It's it's yeah, I thought
- 21:46Speaker 2: about the blue Sky thing, but I was like, yeah, no, yeah,
- 21:49Speaker 2: I'm not doing that.
- 21:49Speaker 3: Yeah, if you're it's.
- 21:52Speaker 2: It's so so much better.
- 21:55Speaker 1: I love how you've been committed to it. Seriously, I
- 21:59Speaker 1: really do. You've been very committed to it. Like and
- 22:02Speaker 1: subscribe here to the PSD podcast show. If you're watching
- 22:06Speaker 1: on YouTube, share our content with like minded Philly sports folks.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Don't uh, we don't think they'll be sorry for it,
- 22:14Speaker 1: so or you'll be sorry for it, I should say,
- 22:17Speaker 1: all right, let's take that break right now. We're gonna
- 22:19Speaker 1: be back in just a bit. Got a lot more
- 22:21Speaker 1: great stuff coming your way. All right, we are back
- 22:26Speaker 1: and we want to dive now into the Philadelphia Union. Boy,
- 22:30Speaker 1: what a season this team has been having. When they
- 22:34Speaker 1: won one to nothing over the over Cincinnati FC Cincinnati
- 22:40Speaker 1: recently about I think it was like about a week
- 22:42Speaker 1: ago or so, if I'm not mistaken, but they they're
- 22:48Speaker 1: on top of the shield race at this point and
- 22:51Speaker 1: quite frankly, they are going to be And I want
- 22:54Speaker 1: to get I want to bring up the banner here
- 22:55Speaker 1: just so we can say that they are on a
- 22:58Speaker 1: roll here the U the Open. They're gonna be in
- 23:04Speaker 1: the semifinals as well, ye US Open Cup US Open
- 23:07Speaker 1: Cup semifinals. They do have a long road trip coming
- 23:11Speaker 1: up as they're gonna be heading to Vancouver for a
- 23:14Speaker 1: September thirteenth match, and then they're gonna be heading to
- 23:16Speaker 1: Nashville for a September sixteenth, that US Open Cup semifinal
- 23:22Speaker 1: match as well. Lynn, what are your thoughts on where
- 23:25Speaker 1: the team is at right now? Again, we've talked about him,
- 23:28Speaker 1: you know, more than a few times during the course
- 23:29Speaker 1: of this season. It's been a surprising season for the
- 23:32Speaker 1: Union given brand new coach. Just you know, some of
- 23:36Speaker 1: the depth has really stepped up on this team, and
- 23:40Speaker 1: you know, Kai Wagner, of course, you know, you got,
- 23:44Speaker 1: you got. You gotta credit him for the type of
- 23:45Speaker 1: season he's been having. What are your thoughts on where
- 23:47Speaker 1: the team's at right now.
- 23:49Speaker 2: I mean it's hard to complain with being first over
- 23:54Speaker 2: all in the league. Yeah, I mean in the quartershield standings. Yeah,
- 23:57Speaker 2: it would be great to get another one of those,
- 23:59Speaker 2: get another uh trophy in the case. You know, it's
- 24:03Speaker 2: it's it's cool and that you know, with with with soccer,
- 24:06Speaker 2: it's not just like you know, I feel like in
- 24:09Speaker 2: baseball or any of the other sports, like, well, if
- 24:11Speaker 2: I didn't win the whole thing, nothing else matters. I mean,
- 24:14Speaker 2: you can win these other trophies along the way, and
- 24:16Speaker 2: and that that means something that matters. So that's awesome
- 24:20Speaker 2: and it's something for them to keep playing for. And
- 24:23Speaker 2: they're one point ahead of San Diego for the Supporter
- 24:27Speaker 2: Shield right now, a San Diego team who they're an
- 24:30Speaker 2: expansion team. So the fact that they are the best
- 24:33Speaker 2: team in the West right now is you know, pretty shocking.
- 24:36Speaker 2: They have an expansion team doing that well and and
- 24:39Speaker 2: kind of challenging the Union for that that first overall spot.
- 24:43Speaker 2: The fact that they were able to get a win
- 24:45Speaker 2: against Cincinnati now is huge given the Cincinnati second in
- 24:48Speaker 2: the East, so you're you're beating your next closest rival.
- 24:51Speaker 2: And then they'll go up against a Nashville team that
- 24:55Speaker 2: you know is always relatively tough and in this US
- 24:58Speaker 2: Open Cup. So we'll see how they go. But I'm
- 25:00Speaker 2: actually glad that you mentioned the depth with this team
- 25:05Speaker 2: because it does it feels like, you know, we're in
- 25:08Speaker 2: one of these portions of the season where guys on
- 25:11Speaker 2: the team are going away because of you know, maybe
- 25:13Speaker 2: a commitment to, you know, a national team. I know,
- 25:16Speaker 2: Nathan Harrill has has been doing stuff with the US
- 25:19Speaker 2: men's national team. Different guys maybe going off to you know,
- 25:23Speaker 2: commitments with national teams. So but that's happened all around
- 25:27Speaker 2: the league. But it just feels like in years past
- 25:30Speaker 2: with the Union, once that happened, they would kind of
- 25:34Speaker 2: you know, stake a nose dive a little bit because
- 25:36Speaker 2: they just didn't have the depth. And it feels like
- 25:38Speaker 2: now they do, and it just feels like, you know,
- 25:41Speaker 2: certain guys on the team have been really I mean,
- 25:44Speaker 2: I love what I've been seeing, you know, from a
- 25:47Speaker 2: few guys on this team. Makanya I think has done
- 25:50Speaker 2: well on the defensive end. Milan Alasky. I like what
- 25:55Speaker 2: I've been seeing out of him. I don't really didn't
- 25:58Speaker 2: really know a lot about him until recently, but in
- 26:01Speaker 2: the fewel appearances I've seen, I've liked what I've seen
- 26:04Speaker 2: a lot. So the additions that they've made to this team, Vasilev,
- 26:09Speaker 2: Dan Le Jean Jacques, guys like that. I feel like
- 26:13Speaker 2: they're just a stronger overall team that can absorb, you know,
- 26:16Speaker 2: some of the hits that you would get from from
- 26:19Speaker 2: guys going off to national teams.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Yeah, the one hit that may that may you know,
- 26:26Speaker 1: hopefully not stick with this team too long. And the
- 26:28Speaker 1: one injury concern that I have at the moment is
- 26:31Speaker 1: Andre Blake, you know, in front of the Gold. I
- 26:33Speaker 1: mean he's been he's been back training for a couple
- 26:37Speaker 1: of days, but his status is still very questionable for
- 26:40Speaker 1: this coming weekend. I mean, you lose Andre Blake, given
- 26:44Speaker 1: what he's done this season, there could be a there's
- 26:48Speaker 1: a concern there for sure.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely. I Mean he's you know, quite possibly the
- 26:55Speaker 2: most recognizable face in the history of this franchise, so
- 26:58Speaker 2: you know, to to not have that is kind of
- 27:01Speaker 2: a big deal, I'll say, and I you know, I'd
- 27:05Speaker 2: be remiss if I didn't mention another guy that you know,
- 27:07Speaker 2: I think has stepped up. I think Andrew Rick has
- 27:11Speaker 2: played pretty well in Blake's absence. That's a guy that
- 27:15Speaker 2: you know, last year, I would see him out there
- 27:18Speaker 2: and it's like hmm, But you know, this year, I
- 27:21Speaker 2: think he's been a lot better. And I think, you know,
- 27:24Speaker 2: he's not going to make anybody forget about Andre Blake,
- 27:26Speaker 2: but I think he's done well for them in the interm.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Philadelphia Union are certainly on a roll, and we're gonna
- 27:33Speaker 1: be talking about them. I have a feeling a lot
- 27:36Speaker 1: more within the next couple of weeks here.
- 27:38Speaker 2: So that being said, well, it's kind of fun, like
- 27:41Speaker 2: you know, like, oh, we have these two teams in
- 27:44Speaker 2: the summer that play at the same time, both doing
- 27:47Speaker 2: pretty well. Yeah, maybe enjoy it while you can, because
- 27:51Speaker 2: once the basketball and hockey teams start up might not
- 27:55Speaker 2: be as good. Very true, very joy it. Why you can.
- 27:57Speaker 1: Look, we don't have any flyers talk on this show
- 28:00Speaker 1: show this week. I mean we could, we certainly could
- 28:03Speaker 1: have talked some flyers, but like I don't want to like,
- 28:06Speaker 1: I don't want to dive into it too too much right.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Now, you know, it's it's too early. I mean, they're
- 28:11Speaker 2: all in the rookie camps for God's sake. Yeah, so
- 28:14Speaker 2: it's not even like the it's not even quote unquote
- 28:18Speaker 2: regular old training camp. Right. Yes, there's not really much
- 28:21Speaker 2: talking about for now.
- 28:22Speaker 1: We could nitpick here and there with certain guys and
- 28:24Speaker 1: stuff like that, but I'm like, I don't want to
- 28:25Speaker 1: do that.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Yeah, what's what's the point at this at this given time.
- 28:30Speaker 4: But one of the.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Biggest stories in the sports world. As we conclude the
- 28:35Speaker 1: first part of the show here before we get to
- 28:36Speaker 1: our interview, Len, it's one mister Kawhi Leonard, I shouldn't
- 28:41Speaker 1: even say it's Qui because like, honestly, I don't even
- 28:44Speaker 1: know if he had. You know, you put players in
- 28:48Speaker 1: these stories, and at the end of the day, it's
- 28:50Speaker 1: not even necessarily the player making the decisions about what
- 28:55Speaker 1: has happened. So it really is the Los Angeles Clippers.
- 28:58Speaker 1: So for folks who may not know where we're going
- 29:02Speaker 1: with this. According to journalist Pablo Torre, some reporting that
- 29:07Speaker 1: came out just this past week. In twenty twenty one,
- 29:10Speaker 1: Clippers owner Steve Baumer invested fifty million dollars in a
- 29:14Speaker 1: startup company called Aspiration, and Aspiration in turn signed Kawhi
- 29:20Speaker 1: Leonard to a twenty eight million dollar quote no show
- 29:23Speaker 1: endorsement deal. Kawhi Leonard would be paid even if he
- 29:28Speaker 1: never did anything. If he did nothing to promote the company,
- 29:32Speaker 1: that was fine. He was going to be paid, which
- 29:35Speaker 1: has This company has since filed for bankruptcy. Just to
- 29:39Speaker 1: let folks know so, an unnamed Aspiration employee told Pablo
- 29:44Speaker 1: Torre that this was actually all a scheme to skirt
- 29:47Speaker 1: the NBA salary cap and provide Kawhi Leonard with compensation
- 29:51Speaker 1: beyond what was actually allocated by his standard player contract. Now,
- 29:56Speaker 1: if this all does turn out to be true, it
- 30:00Speaker 1: really would be the biggest and most audacious case of
- 30:05Speaker 1: salary cap circumvention in NBA history, and probably one of
- 30:09Speaker 1: the league's largest scandals of the twenty first century. Quite frankly,
- 30:14Speaker 1: and this is an agent who has been shady in
- 30:18Speaker 1: the past, and this is an organization that is being
- 30:22Speaker 1: run by one of the richest men basically in the world.
- 30:25Speaker 1: And you say to yourself, Okay, you know what's the
- 30:28Speaker 1: punishment going to be for this for one of the
- 30:31Speaker 1: rich people in the world whole.
- 30:32Speaker 2: And with the Timberwolves thing with Joe Smith, I mean
- 30:35Speaker 2: back in the day years ago.
- 30:37Speaker 3: That's the thing.
- 30:39Speaker 1: Yeah, this isn't this isn't something new that has happened,
- 30:42Speaker 1: but this is the culmination of many years of this
- 30:46Speaker 1: type of phenomenon kind of being at the underbelly and
- 30:49Speaker 1: this just this is huge. And the the owners and
- 30:53Speaker 1: in the NBA Board of Governors who met this past week,
- 30:56Speaker 1: they're gonna have to do something with this because as
- 31:00Speaker 1: much as I think at times, NBA contracts can be
- 31:03Speaker 1: out of control, even though I want players paid, we
- 31:05Speaker 1: always say that on this show.
- 31:07Speaker 3: Pay the players. I don't care, it's not our money.
- 31:10Speaker 1: But like things could get out of control where players
- 31:15Speaker 1: could really end up getting screwed too, to be honest,
- 31:18Speaker 1: and it could happen. And look at what happened. Look
- 31:21Speaker 1: what's happening with Kawhi Leonard right now because of his agent,
- 31:25Speaker 1: because of a shady owner of course, an organization in
- 31:29Speaker 1: front office. I don't know, dude, I was This situation's crazy,
- 31:32Speaker 1: it's wild.
- 31:34Speaker 2: I feel banned for Clippers fans because it's like, didn't
- 31:37Speaker 2: we get rid of this when we got rid of
- 31:39Speaker 2: crazy s. Donald Sterling, Yes like that all Steam. Yes,
- 31:45Speaker 2: doesn't he own Oracle I believe so. Yeah, which is
- 31:49Speaker 2: a gigantic tech company.
- 31:52Speaker 3: The richest guys in the world.
- 31:53Speaker 2: You would think that like someone like that, I don't know.
- 31:57Speaker 2: I mean again, I was just about to say, you
- 31:59Speaker 2: would think someone like that would be above it, But
- 32:01Speaker 2: then again, he's a CEO. All these guys became millionaire, like,
- 32:04Speaker 2: they all billionaires. Yeah, while you and everybody else that's
- 32:09Speaker 2: watching this is struggling to make ends meet. All these
- 32:12Speaker 2: guys are moving their money around into different accounts to
- 32:15Speaker 2: avoid taxes and stuff like that. It's how these guys
- 32:18Speaker 2: not only get rich, but stay rich by by doing shady,
- 32:22Speaker 2: underhanded stuff like this. So, I mean, in a sense,
- 32:27Speaker 2: I don't know why. Am I surprised? I guess I mean,
- 32:31Speaker 2: I don't Again, I don't blame you. We brought up
- 32:33Speaker 2: Qui Lander's name. I don't necessarily blame him because I'm
- 32:36Speaker 2: sure he's just thinking, just give me my money. I
- 32:39Speaker 2: don't care how I get it, you know, I mean,
- 32:41Speaker 2: that's your guys job to figure all that stuff out.
- 32:44Speaker 2: You give me my money and I play, and you know,
- 32:47Speaker 2: we go from there. But yeah, it is that that
- 32:50Speaker 2: would be quite a scandal. I mean I would think,
- 32:53Speaker 2: I just youre the owners. Yeah, if you're the owners
- 32:57Speaker 2: in the NBA, I mean I would think that you
- 32:59Speaker 2: don't want any part of this just because I mean,
- 33:01Speaker 2: it just it makes all of them look bad. You're
- 33:04Speaker 2: just like, Okay, how are the rest of these guys
- 33:07Speaker 2: managing the cap? What's everybody else doing? Yeah, I'm sure
- 33:11Speaker 2: it's not just this one guy.
- 33:12Speaker 1: Oh, their stories are going to come out probably, so
- 33:14Speaker 1: like what's the fallout going to be?
- 33:16Speaker 4: You know?
- 33:17Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I mean that's I don't know.
- 33:21Speaker 3: Yeah, we don't have the answers, of course. I mean
- 33:23Speaker 3: the board of governors, like I.
- 33:24Speaker 2: Said, and that's the thing. The investigation is still ongoing,
- 33:27Speaker 2: so you know, it'll take weeks maybe if not months,
- 33:31Speaker 2: for anything substantial to come out about this. I would think, yeah,
- 33:35Speaker 2: so we'll just have to kind of stay tuned as
- 33:37Speaker 2: far as that. But I don't know, I guess I
- 33:41Speaker 2: don't know. It feels like we're all surprised and maybe
- 33:43Speaker 2: we shouldn't be exactly exactly.
- 33:46Speaker 1: You know what that is such a great point. We
- 33:48Speaker 1: all feel like surprised. We are at a point here
- 33:51Speaker 1: in twenty twenty five where there is shit happened in
- 33:54Speaker 1: the world and we should not be surprised by anything.
- 33:57Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, we are. I don't know.
- 33:59Speaker 1: Maybe it's just it's the human experience or something where
- 34:01Speaker 1: we get surprised by ridiculous, awful, terrible, horrible, whatever it is,
- 34:06Speaker 1: you know, shocking stuff that happens. I can't believe I'm
- 34:09Speaker 1: still shocked by anything, but I am, and this shocks me. Yeah,
- 34:15Speaker 1: oh my gosh, I know. I know we're not gonna
- 34:17Speaker 1: get in the sixers and we're gonna get to our
- 34:19Speaker 1: friend Quab very soon here from the Dime with Josh
- 34:23Speaker 1: and Quab podcast to I'm gonna I'm gonna ask him
- 34:26Speaker 1: also about his thoughts with Kawi Le.
- 34:29Speaker 3: I shouldn't even say, QUI I got it's not that,
- 34:31Speaker 3: but it is Age.
- 34:33Speaker 2: It's not him. It's not him that's shuffling money around.
- 34:36Speaker 3: And ask him about it.
- 34:37Speaker 1: But like, as we start gearing up for this sixer season,
- 34:40Speaker 1: when I'm just like not excited. I know we weren't
- 34:44Speaker 1: gonna talk about it, we didn't have it on the agenda,
- 34:46Speaker 1: but man, like, yeah, I'm so not excited.
- 34:48Speaker 3: Man, I'm wearing my shirt right now, but I'm like not.
- 34:51Speaker 2: Excited, Like you know, Maxi's fun to watch and I
- 34:54Speaker 2: want to see, you know, what happens with E. J.
- 34:56Speaker 2: Edgecomb and I want to see how, you know, McCain
- 34:59Speaker 2: comes back from his injury. But it's just like, I
- 35:02Speaker 2: don't know, does anybody really think that embiid Or or
- 35:05Speaker 2: Paul George are going to play more than forty games? Yeah?
- 35:08Speaker 2: Do you really believe that? I don't. I mean so
- 35:11Speaker 2: that that's what's making it hard, because you want to
- 35:14Speaker 2: talk about a team that is paper thin upfront without
- 35:18Speaker 2: those two. Yeah, and it's just like, okay, what happens
- 35:21Speaker 2: when they do their old half a season and out
- 35:24Speaker 2: if that?
- 35:24Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it saddens me. Also, and again I didn't
- 35:29Speaker 1: have this on the agenda, but I'm not sure if
- 35:31Speaker 1: you read anything about this today, but Kelly Oubre the
- 35:35Speaker 1: fact that you know, he actually like he put this
- 35:37Speaker 1: post up on social and I know you're not on social,
- 35:40Speaker 1: but just how he doesn't feel the love quote love
- 35:43Speaker 1: from the seventy six ers fans. And this is this
- 35:47Speaker 1: is after a report that the Sixers might be looking
- 35:51Speaker 1: to possibly move him possibly move Andre Drummond as well.
- 35:57Speaker 1: So there's there's there's still this feeling of discord heading
- 36:01Speaker 1: into this season with this team, and just uncertainty of
- 36:05Speaker 1: course with health, but just even from a team chemistry standpoint,
- 36:09Speaker 1: I just feel like there's some some some some stink.
- 36:14Speaker 2: Around it, if that makes sense. Yeah, I mean there is.
- 36:16Speaker 2: I mean that's the thing. I mean, you know, we
- 36:19Speaker 2: you know, people go to games and they cheer the
- 36:21Speaker 2: team on, and that's that's cool and all, you know,
- 36:25Speaker 2: and they're paid very handsomely for what they do. I
- 36:28Speaker 2: feel like as long as I'm not you know, on
- 36:31Speaker 2: social media harassing you and actively trying to you know,
- 36:34Speaker 2: be terrible to you or at games trying to do that.
- 36:38Speaker 2: Outside of that, no offense, but I don't know you anything.
- 36:41Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 36:42Speaker 2: And that's him, and that's any of these guys. I mean,
- 36:44Speaker 2: did you see I support the teams? I didn't see it.
- 36:47Speaker 2: This is literally the first time hearing about really this
- 36:50Speaker 2: is why. Yeah, my initial reaction is no offense. But
- 36:55Speaker 2: who fucking who? Yeah?
- 36:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean let me read this to you really quick. Okay,
- 37:00Speaker 3: we're go ahead in on this.
- 37:01Speaker 1: But Kelly Uber actually tweets out. I love Philly, but
- 37:06Speaker 1: the love doesn't seem to be reciprocated. What happened to
- 37:09Speaker 1: this place? And for those saying I'm garbage because my
- 37:12Speaker 1: three percent went down, still put up numbers and I'd
- 37:16Speaker 1: still cook you. I played through finger surgery on my
- 37:19Speaker 1: left so you.
- 37:21Speaker 2: Are an NBA player and I'm a fat guy that's
- 37:26Speaker 2: almost fifty. If you can't cook me, buddy, you got problems.
- 37:31Speaker 1: I played through finger surgery on my left hand, thumb
- 37:35Speaker 1: and pinky for three years, but still put my soul
- 37:39Speaker 1: in this shit. That's one thing only God can take
- 37:44Speaker 1: from me. Hope to see y'all soon, godspeed.
- 37:47Speaker 2: And that's the thing. I don't have any problem with
- 37:50Speaker 2: Kelly Ubray. I don't mind him. I think he's a
- 37:52Speaker 2: decent player. I don't think he's anything great, decent enough.
- 37:56Speaker 2: I have no issue with him. I mean, if you're
- 37:59Speaker 2: not feeling the love of you know, and not feeling
- 38:01Speaker 2: the excitement on the team, I mean, you know, talk
- 38:05Speaker 2: to the guys that are supposed to be the two
- 38:06Speaker 2: best players on the team. Those are the guys, not you.
- 38:10Speaker 2: Those are the guys that are supposed to drag this
- 38:13Speaker 2: team to the playoffs and with the Celtics out this year,
- 38:16Speaker 2: you know, because of Tatum's injury. Yeah, maybe drag this team,
- 38:20Speaker 2: you know, further than it would would normally go under
- 38:22Speaker 2: normal circumstances. But you know, given the past couple of years,
- 38:26Speaker 2: this fan base doesn't really have any reason to believe
- 38:30Speaker 2: that that's going to happen. Nothing personal towards Kelly Oubright,
- 38:33Speaker 2: you know.
- 38:34Speaker 4: But he's not.
- 38:36Speaker 2: He's not the cog that makes this team go, right,
- 38:39Speaker 2: and the cogs that make this team go we don't
- 38:42Speaker 2: think we're going to see much of them. So again,
- 38:45Speaker 2: tell me why I'm supposed to be excited.
- 38:47Speaker 1: And when you see a tweet like this and read
- 38:49Speaker 1: a tweet like this, my gosh, what is he thinking?
- 38:53Speaker 1: I mean, he's going to get booed like when gets
- 38:56Speaker 1: part of me.
- 38:58Speaker 2: Part of me wants to take him the side and go, dude,
- 39:00Speaker 2: nobody's even thinking about you, Like nobody's like, nobody's mad
- 39:05Speaker 2: at you, like nobody's blaming you, right, Like, well, maybe
- 39:08Speaker 2: maybe about you.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Maybe he had like three people in his mentions and
- 39:12Speaker 1: he just had a bad morning or something.
- 39:14Speaker 3: I don't know, I don't know.
- 39:15Speaker 1: It doesn't give him any excuse to do that because
- 39:17Speaker 1: now he's got people hating him. You know, there's more
- 39:20Speaker 1: haters now.
- 39:23Speaker 2: I mean yeah, I mean that's all that's going to engender.
- 39:26Speaker 2: But you know again, maybe you shouldn't be on social media.
- 39:32Speaker 3: There you go.
- 39:32Speaker 1: That's the lesson, folks, that's the lesson you need to
- 39:36Speaker 1: take from this podcast.
- 39:37Speaker 3: Maybe I should listen to you more, Lynn, Maybe I
- 39:39Speaker 3: should do that.
- 39:40Speaker 2: I'm really smart. Yeah, you are super smart.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Boy.
- 39:43Speaker 3: You are a smart boy. Yeah, and I spelled boy
- 39:45Speaker 3: bo I.
- 39:46Speaker 1: All right, we are going and this particular segment here
- 39:51Speaker 1: before we get into our interview, buddy, it was great
- 39:53Speaker 1: seeing you.
- 39:53Speaker 3: You got any final thoughts before let you go here?
- 39:57Speaker 2: I I do not. I think I've said all that.
- 39:59Speaker 2: I've said my pieces we cover.
- 40:01Speaker 1: All right, sounds good, folks. We're gonna take a break.
- 40:03Speaker 1: We'll be back in just a bit with more NBA
- 40:05Speaker 1: off season talk.
- 40:07Speaker 2: And now on the table.
- 40:12Speaker 1: All right, we are back from our break. It was
- 40:15Speaker 1: great talking to Len and now we've got our good
- 40:17Speaker 1: friend from the Dime with Josh and Quab podcast. Love
- 40:21Speaker 1: that podcast. I subscribe on Apple podcast. You should subscribe
- 40:24Speaker 1: wherever you are watching or listening to the PST podcast
- 40:28Speaker 1: show right now, we've got our buddy, quab Man. You
- 40:31Speaker 1: and Josh do a great job, my friend. Thanks so
- 40:33Speaker 1: much for jumping on to get into some NBA off
- 40:34Speaker 1: season talk.
- 40:35Speaker 5: Appreciate it. I appreciate it. Thanks for having me on.
- 40:38Speaker 5: We love this show.
- 40:40Speaker 3: Appreciate it.
- 40:41Speaker 5: Man, We love having you on all the time. Yes,
- 40:43Speaker 5: I listened to this show because I'm I am.
- 40:46Speaker 4: I am a low key Eagles fan. I can't I
- 40:48Speaker 4: can't say that too loud around people.
- 40:50Speaker 1: So birds, Yes, absolutely, look pull back the curtain a
- 40:55Speaker 1: little bit of folks. Kuaba and I were talking about,
- 40:56Speaker 1: you know, me possibly jumping on the dime there pop
- 41:00Speaker 1: I would talk about to talk about the sixers, and
- 41:02Speaker 1: I was like, you know what, it's just gonna be.
- 41:03Speaker 1: It's just gonna be dog crap, That's what we're gonna
- 41:05Speaker 1: be talking about. It's gonna be a real, real short show.
- 41:08Speaker 1: But no, anyway, it's it's really been an interesting NBA offseason.
- 41:12Speaker 1: There's a lot of different storylines to get into quab
- 41:14Speaker 1: And and first up, look, my co host and I
- 41:17Speaker 1: Len we're just talking about the aftermath of the Kawhi
- 41:21Speaker 1: Leonard controversy and what that, you know, may mean for
- 41:25Speaker 1: the Clippers as well, and just the NBA overall. I mean,
- 41:29Speaker 1: this really could be the biggest case of any salary
- 41:32Speaker 1: cap circumvention in the history of the NBA. Here, I
- 41:35Speaker 1: mean the NBA Board of Governors they met this past week.
- 41:38Speaker 1: But I think it's too soon to know what's really
- 41:40Speaker 1: gonna be happening with the Clippers in terms of any
- 41:43Speaker 1: sort of you know, punishments really for them. Again, even
- 41:48Speaker 1: though this has happened before, which we're gonna get to
- 41:50Speaker 1: in a bit here, it's I mean, this is this
- 41:52Speaker 1: is a pretty big story. I mean, I have a
- 41:53Speaker 1: feeling we're gonna see some changes coming down the pike
- 41:56Speaker 1: since this story broke. What do you think will be
- 42:00Speaker 1: to fall out from this particular story and situation, because
- 42:03Speaker 1: let's face it again, it's not anything that's new necessarily.
- 42:07Speaker 1: The size and scope I think of it is it's
- 42:09Speaker 1: happened in the past, not that the size and magnitude.
- 42:12Speaker 1: But still, quad, what are your what are your thoughts here?
- 42:15Speaker 5: I was actually because, like you said, it's been the
- 42:18Speaker 5: hot topic of this offseason, because it's kind of been.
- 42:21Speaker 4: A quiet offseason.
- 42:22Speaker 5: Yeah, And I was just having this conversation with my
- 42:25Speaker 5: friend who my friend Zach he had. He had messaged
- 42:29Speaker 5: me the morning the story broke. He was like, you
- 42:31Speaker 5: got to you gotta listen to this. And when me
- 42:34Speaker 5: and him were talking, like what possibly would be the
- 42:36Speaker 5: punishment that you could enforce? Yeah, that would make sense
- 42:40Speaker 5: because Steve Bamer is technically the fifth richest person in
- 42:46Speaker 5: the in the in the world. So finding him is like.
- 42:51Speaker 4: Chump change.
- 42:51Speaker 5: You're like, okay, you find you can find this amount
- 42:54Speaker 5: of million, Okay, here you go.
- 42:56Speaker 1: Like that's say if it's fifty million, it's like, all right, whatever.
- 43:01Speaker 5: Imagine imagine just having that type of like yeah, that
- 43:04Speaker 5: type of money in the bank, Like okay, sure. So
- 43:07Speaker 5: it's like you can't take away draft picks because the
- 43:09Speaker 5: Clippers don't have draft picks. So to me, it's still
- 43:15Speaker 5: on ongoing story because it feels like news is coming
- 43:18Speaker 5: out every single day and the main I don't want
- 43:23Speaker 5: to use the word but the main uh, I was
- 43:25Speaker 5: gonna say villain. But the main character in this it's
- 43:27Speaker 5: not even Kawhi. It's his I guess, his agent, the
- 43:30Speaker 5: relationship he has with the guy uncle Dennis, and that
- 43:33Speaker 5: has been just like the main figure that keeps popping
- 43:37Speaker 5: up because apparently they asked for stuff when he was
- 43:40Speaker 5: on the Raptors.
- 43:41Speaker 4: He was one of the main.
- 43:43Speaker 5: Reasons Kawhi got traded from the Spurs. There's a lot
- 43:45Speaker 5: of stuff that's going on there and the and I
- 43:49Speaker 5: keep the I keep seeing more reports pop up every day.
- 43:52Speaker 5: So I really don't know what the NBA is going
- 43:55Speaker 5: to do after your investigation, but you're going to have
- 43:59Speaker 5: to do something before season starts because you don't want
- 44:02Speaker 5: this lumen being the story going into a new season. Yes,
- 44:06Speaker 5: that's a last and Adam Silba wants that's the last
- 44:08Speaker 5: in the NBA want state. They don't want the story
- 44:10Speaker 5: coming to the new season being hey, teams are cheated.
- 44:15Speaker 5: One of the best owners, the richest owners that has
- 44:18Speaker 5: built a new stadium, been a positive owner all this time.
- 44:22Speaker 5: This is this what's been going on behind the scenes,
- 44:24Speaker 5: and this has happened before. A lot of us kind
- 44:28Speaker 5: of are not surprised that this happens a lot in
- 44:31Speaker 5: the NBA, just because of there's a lot of money involved,
- 44:34Speaker 5: a lot of hands that so it's not that much
- 44:37Speaker 5: of a surprise. But it's just the numbers, the deal,
- 44:40Speaker 5: it's just there's so many, so many questions we're all
- 44:42Speaker 5: just like, what is going to happen?
- 44:44Speaker 4: We don't I don't know. I personally don't know exactly.
- 44:47Speaker 1: It's tough to note, like you said, and like I said,
- 44:49Speaker 1: Lenn and I were talking about it too, and it's
- 44:51Speaker 1: and again it's not the first time this has happened,
- 44:53Speaker 1: but the size and scope of it, it cannot be
- 44:57Speaker 1: like not addressed. They have to, like you said, like
- 45:00Speaker 1: it has to in some way, shape or form. It
- 45:03Speaker 1: puts Adam Silver in a difficult situation because no, yeah,
- 45:05Speaker 1: even these a lot of these owners are billionaires and stuff,
- 45:08Speaker 1: there's still different different degrees of the billionaire class and
- 45:13Speaker 1: how it's going to affect other guys. I just look
- 45:16Speaker 1: Adam Silver. I'm not the biggest fan of his, being
- 45:19Speaker 1: a six Ers fan, not a fan of Adam Silver,
- 45:21Speaker 1: but I don't envy him with regard to this, because
- 45:23Speaker 1: like the NBA is needing to and we're gonna get
- 45:26Speaker 1: to this in a little bit, you know, they're they're
- 45:28Speaker 1: needing to leave their print on certain parts of the
- 45:30Speaker 1: world and expand as well, just like every sports association
- 45:35Speaker 1: or league wants to do. And it's a it's a
- 45:37Speaker 1: really difficult situation for sure, but you know, I mean,
- 45:41Speaker 1: I guess let's get into that. You know, it's a
- 45:43Speaker 1: good segue into you know, just this past week. You know,
- 45:47Speaker 1: there is a situation now going on in China where
- 45:53Speaker 1: Lebron James was actually talking to Chinese media based on
- 45:56Speaker 1: an op ed that was written, you know about the
- 45:59Speaker 1: NBA general you know about the fact that the that's
- 46:04Speaker 1: basketball isn't just a sport, but it should be a
- 46:07Speaker 1: bridge that connects us. You know, that was the impetus
- 46:11Speaker 1: and the message coming from that op ed. I mean, look,
- 46:14Speaker 1: the NBA certainly wants to rebuild its brand after Philadelphia
- 46:18Speaker 1: seventy six Ers GM Daryl Morey tweeted out support of
- 46:22Speaker 1: a government protest in Hong Kong all the way back
- 46:24Speaker 1: in twenty nineteen, and it basically destroyed the relationship between
- 46:28Speaker 1: the NBA and the Chinese at that time. So QWAB,
- 46:31Speaker 1: what are your thoughts on how this story with Lebron
- 46:35Speaker 1: and kind of you know, his engagement with this essentially
- 46:39Speaker 1: with Chinese state media from a sheer, I guess you
- 46:43Speaker 1: would say, you know, because we get it here on
- 46:44Speaker 1: the podcast show, because of me and because of what
- 46:46Speaker 1: I do outside the confines of this podcast in terms
- 46:49Speaker 1: of my elected position. You know, you always get the
- 46:52Speaker 1: stick to sports, stick to sports. That angle it persists online,
- 46:56Speaker 1: but we also know here that there's a lot of
- 47:00Speaker 1: great in this world, and sometimes politics and sports do
- 47:04Speaker 1: clash with each other. Do you have any thoughts on
- 47:07Speaker 1: this particular story and what it really means.
- 47:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I have many thoughts. I think.
- 47:14Speaker 5: What you mentioned with when Dalmory made that sent that
- 47:17Speaker 5: tweet out, I remember I remember that clearly because this
- 47:21Speaker 5: was when my team, the Nets and the Lakers were overseas,
- 47:25Speaker 5: was supposed to be playing a exhibition a couple of
- 47:29Speaker 5: exhibition games, and it all got it all got shut down.
- 47:33Speaker 4: And during because of that, because that decision.
- 47:36Speaker 5: Darren Mury made, I remember that it actually affected the
- 47:41Speaker 5: salary cap with the NBA.
- 47:42Speaker 4: That's how much.
- 47:43Speaker 5: That's how much that that like just that's the simple
- 47:47Speaker 5: sentences he did, like affected a relationship, also affected the
- 47:51Speaker 5: business in the NBA. And I'm trying to I'm trying
- 47:55Speaker 5: to call the person's name. I'm drawing a blank. But
- 47:57Speaker 5: I remember somebody made a comment and said that the
- 48:00Speaker 5: NBA and sports in general are a marketing company, that
- 48:07Speaker 5: a global marketing company that like yes, we we enjoy
- 48:12Speaker 5: the sports aspect of it, but them's the brand and
- 48:15Speaker 5: the business and they really care about the business. So
- 48:20Speaker 5: him Lebron making this statement, it's helping the business aspect
- 48:25Speaker 5: of it if he's trying to rebuild the relationship between
- 48:29Speaker 5: the NBA and overseas like they love it like the
- 48:33Speaker 5: the NBA also wants to expand they want to have
- 48:36Speaker 5: euro League teams and all that, so they want to
- 48:38Speaker 5: be a bigger global brand.
- 48:39Speaker 4: So there's that aspect of it.
- 48:41Speaker 5: But the other aspect of it is that when it
- 48:43Speaker 5: comes to not just the NBA, like professional athletes a
- 48:47Speaker 5: lot of people do we do we do this then
- 48:49Speaker 5: where we kind of dehumanize the players and the people
- 48:55Speaker 5: that are part of the game just because we just
- 48:57Speaker 5: we don't see them as regular people.
- 48:59Speaker 4: We kind of eat them as.
- 49:01Speaker 5: Like giants and gladiators in the sport, where where we
- 49:05Speaker 5: don't see them as like at the same time, they're
- 49:07Speaker 5: still there's still regular people. They have feelings, they have
- 49:10Speaker 5: thoughts here, they have family members, they're affected by what's
- 49:13Speaker 5: going on in the political climate on every day on
- 49:17Speaker 5: an every day basis, like.
- 49:18Speaker 4: We we we we.
- 49:21Speaker 5: Feel different things in terms of what's going on in
- 49:23Speaker 5: the news and what happens every day and how it's
- 49:25Speaker 5: affecting us, but we don't realize that it's also affected
- 49:29Speaker 5: them and people they care about too.
- 49:30Speaker 1: Yeah, Like, I appreciate you saying that, because even outside
- 49:33Speaker 1: the sports world, that happens, that happens.
- 49:36Speaker 5: So it's like every and you know how it is,
- 49:38Speaker 5: every day you're seeing something on the news, on the television,
- 49:42Speaker 5: you're reading something.
- 49:43Speaker 4: Now you're just like another Like it's just it's just.
- 49:48Speaker 5: Something every day and and the and it's it's it's,
- 49:53Speaker 5: it's it's it is frustrating. It is really really really
- 49:56Speaker 5: frustrating the times we're in right now.
- 49:58Speaker 4: Yeah, And I.
- 49:59Speaker 5: Do a pre when people that have a big voice,
- 50:02Speaker 5: have a big following, have who like the magnitude of
- 50:06Speaker 5: like the magnitude of reach.
- 50:08Speaker 4: They have, or they speak on things I'm not.
- 50:10Speaker 5: I'm not a believer of the the shut up and
- 50:13Speaker 5: dribble like I I don't, but I believe that if
- 50:16Speaker 5: people should be in the right, you should understand what
- 50:18Speaker 5: you're talking about, you should know what you're talking about,
- 50:21Speaker 5: and you should be in the right because at the
- 50:23Speaker 5: end of the day, this all this affects everybody. Yeah,
- 50:27Speaker 5: affects everybody on a daily basis, and we can't we
- 50:31Speaker 5: can't just be kind of have the mindset of just
- 50:34Speaker 5: being in the center or just trying to ignore it
- 50:36Speaker 5: or whatever whatever else it is because of our status,
- 50:39Speaker 5: because it's going to affect people you care about. So
- 50:42Speaker 5: I'm yeah, I'm I'm. I'm a big fan of when
- 50:46Speaker 5: athletes speak up against injustices and just ignorance and everything
- 50:51Speaker 5: that's that goes on on a daily basis.
- 50:53Speaker 1: Absolutely here here, my friend, you are talking the same
- 50:56Speaker 1: language as me, for sure, and even my co hosts too.
- 51:00Speaker 3: Yeah for sure.
- 51:01Speaker 1: Look, I mean, as we're moving on though, you know,
- 51:03Speaker 1: one of the themes from this off season, specifically with regard
- 51:07Speaker 1: to the NBA, and it's really interesting to watch it
- 51:09Speaker 1: on an annual basis, Like on an annual off season
- 51:13Speaker 1: basis could be you know, it's what I like to
- 51:15Speaker 1: call the the copycat behavior from team to team to team.
- 51:18Speaker 1: You know, change is always constant in the NBA, and
- 51:21Speaker 1: teams are already starting to try to replicate what Okay
- 51:24Speaker 1: see and even the Pacers were able to do this
- 51:26Speaker 1: past season with with speed, depth, overall team oriented type
- 51:32Speaker 1: of play. So I'm wondering, what are your thoughts on
- 51:35Speaker 1: how teams really try to chase the copycat ball around
- 51:39Speaker 1: the season, or I should say, around the off season,
- 51:43Speaker 1: from off season to off season. You know, what are
- 51:45Speaker 1: your thoughts here?
- 51:46Speaker 5: Yeah, it is like you said, it's a copycat league.
- 51:48Speaker 5: It feels like teams will see something work and be like,
- 51:50Speaker 5: we can do that. Let's let's make those moves, right.
- 51:53Speaker 3: I remember really quick. I remember when Shack.
- 51:55Speaker 1: I remember when Shaq came in the league and everyone's like,
- 51:57Speaker 1: all right, we gotta get a real big guy, gotta
- 51:59Speaker 1: go o big guy like like like like without like
- 52:04Speaker 1: any thought, Okay, we gotta get a Shack like there
- 52:07Speaker 1: was another one in the world.
- 52:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I remember that. That reminds me of what was
- 52:11Speaker 4: his name, Jahidi White.
- 52:12Speaker 3: Like, oh my gosh, yeah, a.
- 52:14Speaker 5: Big lumbering sid like, oh, you're just gonna be like check.
- 52:17Speaker 5: I'm like, I don't know if that work.
- 52:23Speaker 4: That works, but you're right, it is.
- 52:24Speaker 5: It's it's like, even if you really think about it,
- 52:27Speaker 5: because of I remember back in the day, even because
- 52:29Speaker 5: of Jordan, there were so many six six wing guards
- 52:33Speaker 5: and forest that were drafted, like oh when they when
- 52:36Speaker 5: the athletics, so when they get the shoot.
- 52:37Speaker 4: In, we kind of have like that type of player, but.
- 52:40Speaker 5: He doesn't work out that way, right, I think we're
- 52:44Speaker 5: born with a certain talent in a certain way, you
- 52:46Speaker 5: know what I mean.
- 52:47Speaker 1: It's you can't you can't just put him in a
- 52:48Speaker 1: lab somewhere. You can't just tinker with this and that
- 52:51Speaker 1: and all of a sudden, Okay, yeah we're gonna get
- 52:53Speaker 1: Shack two point oh or Michael Jordan two point oh.
- 52:56Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, does it never works out that way?
- 52:59Speaker 5: Like, but they their teams are teams on the upper
- 53:01Speaker 5: management they try. I think it is interesting to see
- 53:04Speaker 5: me how teams are prioritized prioritizing getting I guess more
- 53:11Speaker 5: more more players that are like faster two way players,
- 53:14Speaker 5: and right, just more skill across the board on your teams,
- 53:18Speaker 5: which I think a big factor is. That's because the
- 53:22Speaker 5: the cap and the second apron, which I still don't understand.
- 53:25Speaker 4: I'm sure I've tried.
- 53:27Speaker 5: I've tried to like the aprons say, but it's more
- 53:31Speaker 5: teams are kind of veered away from having like the
- 53:33Speaker 5: Big three or like or like I mean the Superstar,
- 53:36Speaker 5: having like a just a more team building aspect. So
- 53:41Speaker 5: it makes more sense to have like a roster full
- 53:43Speaker 5: of dependable players, like you saw that with like the Thunder,
- 53:46Speaker 5: where it had players that would come off the bench
- 53:48Speaker 5: and score twenty points. Even like you said, with the Pacers,
- 53:51Speaker 5: they had quote unquote role players that will step up
- 53:54Speaker 5: and right and make an impact. So more teams are
- 53:57Speaker 5: trying to fill out your rosters with more dependable players,
- 54:00Speaker 5: and I think that big factor in that has been
- 54:02Speaker 5: because of the cap and the aprons.
- 54:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 54:05Speaker 1: Absolutely, all right, Well, folks, we are gonna take a
- 54:08Speaker 1: quick break. We're, you know, real quick to pay some
- 54:10Speaker 1: bills here, but we're gonna be back with Quab in
- 54:12Speaker 1: just a bit to really dive into some more NBA
- 54:16Speaker 1: offseason talk. But before we do that, quap, where can
- 54:18Speaker 1: folks find you on the socials? Out there again? The
- 54:21Speaker 1: Dime with Josh and quab podcast I subscribe on Apple Podcasts.
- 54:25Speaker 1: Let everybody know where they can find you on the
- 54:27Speaker 1: interwebs out there.
- 54:28Speaker 5: You can find me at a quab ak yes kW
- 54:31Speaker 5: A b A K y es. Also a podcast with
- 54:36Speaker 5: Josh Rodriguez is at The Dime NBA. Follow us on
- 54:40Speaker 5: YouTube where we're gonna be doing more audio. But we're
- 54:43Speaker 5: usually we did a more YouTube and we did very well,
- 54:47Speaker 5: so follow us on there.
- 54:48Speaker 1: All right, sounds good. Let's take that break right now, folks.
- 54:51Speaker 1: We'll be back in just a bit. All right, we
- 54:58Speaker 1: are back here with our buddy Quab and we got
- 55:01Speaker 1: a lot more discussion to get into about this NBA
- 55:04Speaker 1: off season.
- 55:06Speaker 3: I wanted to talk about the MAVs.
- 55:07Speaker 1: I think they're an interesting team this offseason and really
- 55:10Speaker 1: based on extending PJ Washington with a four year, ninety
- 55:14Speaker 1: million dollar extension, it's gonna keep him as a key
- 55:16Speaker 1: piece of the MAVs front court. I'm wondering when it
- 55:19Speaker 1: comes to the MAVs, and I wish we could. I
- 55:21Speaker 1: wish we had time to get into like every team
- 55:23Speaker 1: and like grade them and really dive into what they
- 55:26Speaker 1: could potentially do this season. We're gonna talk about the
- 55:28Speaker 1: Eastern Conference in a bit, but I'm wondering, what are
- 55:30Speaker 1: your thoughts on this contract extension for the MAVs overall
- 55:33Speaker 1: and really what it does for them over the next
- 55:35Speaker 1: couple of seasons as they look.
- 55:37Speaker 3: To try to contend in the future. What are your thoughts?
- 55:40Speaker 5: I mean, I think the contract makes sense. I know
- 55:43Speaker 5: they just they just drafted Cooper flag number one overall.
- 55:47Speaker 5: But as we were staying before to break talking about
- 55:50Speaker 5: teams kind of having just more options and different players, PJ.
- 55:54Speaker 5: Washington brings that on the team, Like he was a
- 55:57Speaker 5: big factor in your your finals run a couple of
- 55:59Speaker 5: years years ago with just not only his offense but defensively.
- 56:03Speaker 5: I remember there were games he was basically guardening Shay
- 56:06Speaker 5: and he was he was knocking down three point three
- 56:08Speaker 5: point shots. And he gives them the ability to like
- 56:11Speaker 5: play the three, play the four, might even play some
- 56:14Speaker 5: five and smaller lineups. The MAVs are very like if
- 56:18Speaker 5: you look at look at them on paper, they have
- 56:19Speaker 5: a very very deep team.
- 56:21Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's one of the reasons I put this
- 56:23Speaker 1: topic on here for us to get into because I
- 56:25Speaker 1: find it intriguing.
- 56:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I feel like they're not a lot of people
- 56:30Speaker 4: The West is going.
- 56:30Speaker 5: To be like a blood bath, that feels like because
- 56:33Speaker 5: there's a lot of really, really good teams and but
- 56:37Speaker 5: a lot of them have a lot of question marks.
- 56:38Speaker 5: I think with the Maps is if they get Kyrie
- 56:40Speaker 5: back healthy, what be your like your ceiling after that?
- 56:44Speaker 4: But they have if you up and down the roster, they.
- 56:47Speaker 5: Have very really very good players, very dependable players at
- 56:50Speaker 5: every position, like two to three deep, like where could
- 56:55Speaker 5: start for most teams, and I don't know, for them
- 57:01Speaker 5: to be able to be in this position after trading
- 57:04Speaker 5: away Luca is hilarious to me.
- 57:06Speaker 1: Yeah, yep, because you're like, yeah, it's like, what the
- 57:11Speaker 1: hell is this team doing? You're like, you know what,
- 57:14Speaker 1: depth wise, not not horrendous at all.
- 57:17Speaker 5: Yeah, Like I mean, if he's I don't know, I
- 57:19Speaker 5: don't know if you say yes, But if you're like, oh,
- 57:21Speaker 5: we're gonna trade Luca, we get Anthony Davis and the
- 57:23Speaker 5: number one pick, yeah, somebody might be like okay, I
- 57:27Speaker 5: would consider. But just I remember when the you you
- 57:29Speaker 5: were probably as shocked as everybody else happened, like.
- 57:33Speaker 4: What are what are they doing? So yeah, like.
- 57:36Speaker 5: You said, that's a it's a it's another one of
- 57:38Speaker 5: those teams like you were talking about in terms of
- 57:41Speaker 5: a copycat league. They have a lot of a lot
- 57:43Speaker 5: of players at every position, a lot of deaf and
- 57:46Speaker 5: they could be they could be one of the better
- 57:47Speaker 5: teams in the West. Like again, the West is going
- 57:50Speaker 5: to be tough with just you you have the thunder
- 57:53Speaker 5: return and trying to be return champions, The Nuggets made improvements,
- 57:57Speaker 5: the Rockets added KD. Like it's on and on and on,
- 58:01Speaker 5: like there's there's so many players. But the yeah, they
- 58:04Speaker 5: have a they have a really good team. So the PJ.
- 58:06Speaker 5: Washington move wasn't like a big surprise. I mean it
- 58:08Speaker 5: was the right thing to do, and they have a
- 58:11Speaker 5: to me, they have one of the top teams in
- 58:14Speaker 5: the West. But on paper, but we know the game's
- 58:16Speaker 5: not played on paper.
- 58:17Speaker 1: Right, Absolutely great way to put it, for sure, you know,
- 58:19Speaker 1: I mean you mentioned Luca, and I do wonder what
- 58:23Speaker 1: happens with Luca and Lebron as the Lakers look towards
- 58:28Speaker 1: this coming season, because they have a ton I was
- 58:30Speaker 1: reading an article recently. They have a ton of expiring
- 58:33Speaker 1: money from guys who they can really dangle in front
- 58:35Speaker 1: of some other teams, possibly get another star to join
- 58:39Speaker 1: the team. I'm wondering, how do you see the Lakers
- 58:42Speaker 1: really fitting into the NBA picture this coming season, especially
- 58:46Speaker 1: with those expiring contracts they have the ability to possibly
- 58:50Speaker 1: bring another star in. I mean, the Lakers could be
- 58:53Speaker 1: a scary team this year.
- 58:54Speaker 5: Perhaps, Yeah, I mean, they they're another They're another one
- 58:58Speaker 5: of those teams when if you have Luca, you have Lebron,
- 59:00Speaker 5: you have a chance.
- 59:01Speaker 4: Like it's just simply that. Yeah, I don't I don't
- 59:06Speaker 4: know where exactly to put the Lakers because I feel
- 59:10Speaker 4: like with.
- 59:10Speaker 5: Them, they come and another team that comes with some
- 59:13Speaker 5: question marks too, like what are you going to get
- 59:15Speaker 5: from DeAndre a And like it's it's Luca going. Luca
- 59:19Speaker 5: looks great playing playing uh euroball right now like Feebo,
- 59:24Speaker 5: he looks in great shape. Is not going to continue
- 59:26Speaker 5: throughout the course of the season. Lebron is like eighty
- 59:30Speaker 5: years old and he still looks like.
- 59:32Speaker 4: He still.
- 59:34Speaker 3: Around. It's crazy the way he moves.
- 59:37Speaker 5: Yeah, it makes those it makes those sense. I mean
- 59:39Speaker 5: they signed uh, I mean who they picked.
- 59:42Speaker 4: Up Marcus Smart? Marcus Smart?
- 59:44Speaker 5: Ye, yeah, you know, working from him like you can
- 59:47Speaker 5: if you can refer back to being that defensive player
- 59:50Speaker 5: type type type player that you can have a two
- 59:52Speaker 5: way player on that team. And except I don't, I
- 59:55Speaker 5: don't know what the next move is for for the Lakers,
- 59:59Speaker 5: but they did made the shift to be going away
- 1:00:02Speaker 5: from being Lebron's team to be Luca's team. Yeah, so
- 1:00:05Speaker 5: it depends on like you said, after after they free
- 1:00:10Speaker 5: up all this money, who is available and who they
- 1:00:12Speaker 5: feel like can fit in that uh ecosystem with with
- 1:00:15Speaker 5: Luca and depending on if Lebron's coming back or whatever
- 1:00:19Speaker 5: else it is and moving forward. So that's going to
- 1:00:21Speaker 5: be That's another that's another interesting team in the West.
- 1:00:25Speaker 5: But they'll be in the playoff hunt obviously, yes they
- 1:00:27Speaker 5: have they have too much talent. They just have too
- 1:00:29Speaker 5: much talent, So it will be it'll be interesting to see.
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: Absolutely, all right, Quad, Before I let you head out
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: of here, buddy, and before we wrap up this episode here,
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: I wanted to talk about the Eastern Conference because you know,
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: when it does come to you know, looking at this
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: conference and the projections here, the Knicks have certainly gone
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: through some changes, you know, doing something pretty unconventional by
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: firing their coach who actually got them to the Eastern
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: Conference finals.
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: I mean absolutely shocked when we when we all heard
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: that news.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: I think, you know, the Calves are obviously going to
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: be a strong team heading into this season, knowing what
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: they have on the court. But I'm very interested to
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: see how the Magic and even how the Hawks are
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: going to perform right out of the gate this season.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: If both of those teams that have talent, you know,
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: if they're able to get some momentum. What are your
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: thoughts on some of the projections here about how this
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: Eastern Conference may look this coming season.
- 1:01:21Speaker 5: I have no idea I have because, like you just said.
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: It's fun. That's why we don't know. And it's fun.
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: It's fun.
- 1:01:35Speaker 5: And I look at I I look at all the
- 1:01:37Speaker 5: teams in the East, and I'm like, okay, I can,
- 1:01:40Speaker 5: I can kind of make a case for this team.
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: But then it comes to question.
- 1:01:43Speaker 5: Marks, like you can you obviously make the case for
- 1:01:45Speaker 5: the Calves because of well, how how dominant they were
- 1:01:49Speaker 5: throughout the course of the course of the year, but
- 1:01:51Speaker 5: then they kind of fell short in the playoffs because
- 1:01:54Speaker 5: of injury. So yeah, like they can stay healthy, there's
- 1:01:56Speaker 5: a chance the Knicks may finally they fired fired your
- 1:02:00Speaker 5: coach that that had them winning, But they've made some
- 1:02:04Speaker 5: moves on the margin to kind of change that. So
- 1:02:07Speaker 5: they might be a top team. But you're talking about
- 1:02:10Speaker 5: a team like the Magic. They added Desmond Baine, who
- 1:02:13Speaker 5: addresses like one of their issues with perimanter shooting, does
- 1:02:17Speaker 5: that help them make the jump? Atlanta add in porzingis
- 1:02:21Speaker 5: if he's he's fully healthy, He's a perfect fit for
- 1:02:24Speaker 5: the for that team and what they want to do Detroit,
- 1:02:27Speaker 5: can they make a jump after having like a great,
- 1:02:30Speaker 5: a great, a great year with all these young players.
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: Of course, of course Tobias Harris, you know, former Philadelphia
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: seventy six or just having a great twenty twenty four
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: twenty five season.
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: Of course, he was he was the missing piece. He
- 1:02:41Speaker 4: was obviously he was the missing piece. Yeah.
- 1:02:44Speaker 5: And also we were talking about controversies earlier with Kawhi Leonard,
- 1:02:50Speaker 5: the Molie Beasley Uh yeambling that happened with Detroit. That's
- 1:02:54Speaker 5: that's a whole other thing. So like there there's that. Also,
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: I know, I know how a burden is hurt. And
- 1:03:01Speaker 5: also they traded away, uh call Miles Turner left, but
- 1:03:04Speaker 5: the Pacers still have a lot of good players and
- 1:03:08Speaker 5: they still have for Carlisle. So you don't know what
- 1:03:10Speaker 5: you're gonna look like on in the season. The Bucks
- 1:03:13Speaker 5: at Miles Turner and still have Giannis. Yeah, yeah, that
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: that's that's a possible. Like there's there's so many teams
- 1:03:21Speaker 5: and and sorry to bring this up with the Sixers.
- 1:03:23Speaker 5: If the Sixers are freaking healthy, they're able to get healthy.
- 1:03:27Speaker 4: Dang it. Yes, that's all they need. If Joelle emb.
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: Just biggest in the world, Yes.
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: Paul George can get healthy.
- 1:03:38Speaker 5: I'm like you you look up and down the roads,
- 1:03:40Speaker 5: like if they can resign Josh's favorite player, Quinton Grimes. Yeah,
- 1:03:45Speaker 5: that's that's a roster that's a contender in the East. Yes,
- 1:03:49Speaker 5: that's another rod that's a contender in ease on paper yep.
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:03:53Speaker 5: So the East is the the East is a section
- 1:03:56Speaker 5: of the the NBA season. That's just question mark, question
- 1:03:58Speaker 5: mark for me. So that's why I'm like, I'm not
- 1:04:00Speaker 5: I don't know, but I'm I'm excited. I'm like, I'm
- 1:04:03Speaker 5: ready for the season to start.
- 1:04:05Speaker 4: One of the.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: Reasons I'm starting, Yeah, yeah, honestly, I know, God bless you.
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: You're a Nets fan, and seriously say prayers for Quab
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: out there if you're if you do that stuff or
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: send positive energy as a way. It's just one of
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: the reasons I just love the NBA anymore is because
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: of the competition. You know, a decade ago, you're like, yeah,
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: we kind of know who's gonna be going to the
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: Eastern Conference. You know, we we we know certain teams.
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: We're an inflection point right now where the competition is
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: gonna be fierce in the Eastern Conference and because of
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: the talent and the unknowns that were you were just
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: talking about, it's gonna be a fascinating season and it's
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: gonna be it's gonna be fun to watch. So, my friend,
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: I appreciate you jumping on the podcast here again, folks
