- 0:02Speaker 1: Thirty five past the hour, longtime friend of the radio
- 0:05Speaker 1: program joins us once again. He is us Senator Rick Scott.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Tell me what you think has changed or will change,
- 0:15Speaker 1: if anything, on the on this possible passage of the
- 0:19Speaker 1: Save Act with the Supreme Court decision yesterday which was disastrous, well.
- 0:23Speaker 2: I think it showed. I think I think a lot
- 0:25Speaker 2: of things are happening. One Trump came to I've run
- 0:29Speaker 2: the Conservative lunch on Wednesday, and all the republic centers
- 0:33Speaker 2: came and so he was passionate about it. Number two
- 0:37Speaker 2: is the Supreme Court decision that you know with regard
- 0:41Speaker 2: to absent ballots postmarked after election day, which seems sort
- 0:44Speaker 2: of crazy. Three, everybody's watching that they're still counting ballots
- 0:50Speaker 2: from election in the mayor's race in LA from June second.
- 0:54Speaker 2: So I think I think the public is just is
- 0:58Speaker 2: going to demand this. I went to the Republican convention
- 1:03Speaker 2: in Florida this weekend and the biggest applause is of course,
- 1:06Speaker 2: about the same America Act. So I think Democrats are
- 1:09Speaker 2: hearing the same thing. This is not a Republican issue.
- 1:12Speaker 2: This is a grant republican independent issue that people are
- 1:16Speaker 2: worried about. The security of our elections, the integrity of
- 1:19Speaker 2: our elections, and the Supreme Court decision didn't help, you know,
- 1:24Speaker 2: help it make people feel more comfortable. They made people
- 1:26Speaker 2: feel less comfortable. I mean thinking about you can decide
- 1:29Speaker 2: after election, well how many votes do I need? So
- 1:31Speaker 2: we've got to get those those votes in. I mean,
- 1:34Speaker 2: like California must have a law that says they can
- 1:36Speaker 2: keep counting until Democrats win, because that sure seems what happens.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I'm curious, though, why won't the GOP apparatus, I'll put
- 1:45Speaker 1: it that way, whether it's the r NC or whether
- 1:48Speaker 1: it's the Senatorial Committee or the House Committee. Why aren't
- 1:52Speaker 1: they running spots nationwide pointing out that the American people, Democrats, Republicans, black, white,
- 1:59Speaker 1: Latin An, American, you name it, they all support the
- 2:02Speaker 1: Save Act and this senator running for re election is
- 2:05Speaker 1: opposing it Democrat or Republican whichever. Why aren't they doing it?
- 2:10Speaker 2: I think they will. I mean, see, you know, it's
- 2:14Speaker 2: you know, raising money for election person. It's hard, and
- 2:17Speaker 2: so people gotta you know, they got to think about,
- 2:19Speaker 2: you know, save their money until then. I think you
- 2:21Speaker 2: get to September and October. I think that will happen. Unfortunately,
- 2:24Speaker 2: it might be too late to have an impact on
- 2:27Speaker 2: this election from the standpoint of getting the bill passed.
- 2:30Speaker 2: But I think it will. I think it is a
- 2:32Speaker 2: very it's a clear black and white now. I think
- 2:34Speaker 2: what we should be doing, and I wrote a letter
- 2:37Speaker 2: to my colleagues we could go about this. I think
- 2:40Speaker 2: we got to make it clear who we are versus
- 2:43Speaker 2: the Democrats. We should be voting every day. We want
- 2:45Speaker 2: to keep government open, they don't. We want to We
- 2:48Speaker 2: want to have election security, they don't. We want porter security,
- 2:52Speaker 2: the Democrats don't. But the only way you're going to
- 2:54Speaker 2: do that you got to take votes. Yeah, and you gotta,
- 2:58Speaker 2: I mean the votes take you know, it should take
- 3:00Speaker 2: means to take a half hour. And if you know,
- 3:02Speaker 2: and if it's not going to pass, vote and show
- 3:04Speaker 2: people here's who we are, here's who they are. Let's
- 3:07Speaker 2: make it clear. And you know, this person A lot
- 3:11Speaker 2: of people don't understand the philibuster. The philibusterer was never
- 3:13Speaker 2: supposed to block a bill. Schumer has used the filibuster
- 3:17Speaker 2: process to block bills. The philibusterer was to say, hey, guys,
- 3:22Speaker 2: we've been talking about this for a month, we're going
- 3:24Speaker 2: to vote on it now. Like Clarence Thomas only got
- 3:26Speaker 2: fifty two votes, I mean they didn't the Democrats didn't
- 3:29Speaker 2: use the philibuster to block his nomination. So they just said, hey,
- 3:34Speaker 2: we've had a conversation about it. We're going to stop
- 3:36Speaker 2: talking and now vote. And so we either have to
- 3:40Speaker 2: get rid of the filibusterer if we're not going to
- 3:41Speaker 2: make people talk until they drop. That's that's the way
- 3:44Speaker 2: the Senate has always worked. Until you know, Schumer, now
- 3:47Speaker 2: we you know you don't even have to do it.
- 3:49Speaker 2: You just say I'm thinking about it.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Senators stand by Senator Rick skuy with us for one
- 3:54Speaker 1: more segment. Time moves quickly when we are visiting with him,
- 3:58Speaker 1: So stick around. It's the Morning Show with Preston's Guy.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Before we move past the Save Act, help me with
- 4:02Speaker 1: a little math. I saw Susan Collins changed your mind
- 4:05Speaker 1: and was in favor of the Save Act, And by
- 4:08Speaker 1: my math, that leaves Tom Tillis, Mitch McConnell, and Lisa
- 4:11Speaker 1: Murkowski against it. That's fifty. And then if you factor
- 4:15Speaker 1: in John Fetterman, that's fifty. Why why aren't we just
- 4:18Speaker 1: passing it?
- 4:19Speaker 2: Because they won't. We won't force we won't force the
- 4:22Speaker 2: Democrats to talk.
- 4:23Speaker 1: But the votes are there, right.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Yeah, we have the votes. You know, you know, we
- 4:28Speaker 2: have the votes to pass it. So what we've got
- 4:30Speaker 2: to do is just put on the floor and say, okay,
- 4:32Speaker 2: so you know, we're going to force the filibuster rules
- 4:35Speaker 2: and you get to talk. But when you finish talking,
- 4:38Speaker 2: we're voted yes. So you want to talk. Now, you
- 4:40Speaker 2: know they you know they they but they try to
- 4:44Speaker 2: they you know, that's what they've done is they try
- 4:47Speaker 2: to change the filibusterial rules to say, well, we don't
- 4:49Speaker 2: really have to talk and you and you get multiple
- 4:52Speaker 2: times to talk and so so it never works because
- 4:56Speaker 2: what the leadership wants is, you know, they don't they
- 5:00Speaker 2: want to control everything, and so the Democrats are using
- 5:03Speaker 2: this to block, you know, the Save America Act. But
- 5:07Speaker 2: let's put this perspective. A year ago, we still had
- 5:10Speaker 2: the filibuster process for nomination, and finally Republicans said, you know,
- 5:15Speaker 2: we don't have the Democrats are not going to let
- 5:17Speaker 2: Trump have any of his nominees, so we're going to
- 5:18Speaker 2: have to change the rules. We've had to change the
- 5:20Speaker 2: rules for judges because the Democrats blocked. We've had to change.
- 5:23Speaker 2: The other thing left is the bills. And so if
- 5:26Speaker 2: it's just going to be obstruction without any obligation to
- 5:29Speaker 2: actually really talk, let's get rid of it. I mean,
- 5:32Speaker 2: it's just a joke.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Well one, I guess I'm upset because Leader Thune keeps
- 5:37Speaker 1: saying he doesn't have the votes. Well, he does have
- 5:38Speaker 1: the votes to pass the thing.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Yeah, we actually have the votes that pass it. And
- 5:43Speaker 2: by the way, yesterday the House attached the Save America
- 5:47Speaker 2: Act to the National Defense Authorization Act. So I've got
- 5:51Speaker 2: to understand if that because when we've we've passed it
- 5:56Speaker 2: out a committee, this National Defense Authorization Act. I want
- 5:59Speaker 2: to find out this morning if it actually if that,
- 6:02Speaker 2: I don't think it does, but it actually gets us
- 6:04Speaker 2: away from the filibuster rules, I don't think it does.
- 6:07Speaker 2: But but if it does, you know, but I'll be surprised.
- 6:12Speaker 2: But we still have to have one more, one more
- 6:17Speaker 2: cloture vote even to pass it in the Senate. But
- 6:20Speaker 2: I'm gonna find out this morning on.
- 6:21Speaker 1: That kind of a lightning round here in the time
- 6:23Speaker 1: we have remaining, are you really hopeful that anything's going
- 6:26Speaker 1: to be done that's legitimate with Iran because I don't
- 6:29Speaker 1: trust them at all.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Well, I don't think you should trust them, and they're
- 6:33Speaker 2: despicable that our DA logues. Here's the positive. Trump's doing
- 6:38Speaker 2: what no one would do to before. He's going to
- 6:40Speaker 2: do everything you can to make sure they don't have
- 6:42Speaker 2: a nukele weapon. And today they don't write right, they
- 6:44Speaker 2: don't have the ability to do it. Is it going
- 6:47Speaker 2: to be easy to get a deal. I think it's
- 6:48Speaker 2: gonna be hard. So, I mean I was at the
- 6:51Speaker 2: President twice last week and we talked about Iran. He said, look,
- 6:55Speaker 2: we can't let them have a nuclear weapon. They're not
- 6:57Speaker 2: gonna have a nuclear weapon, and that means every so
- 6:59Speaker 2: often we have to go bomb the hell out. And
- 7:01Speaker 2: that's what I'll do because he's not going to do it,
- 7:03Speaker 2: and he's going to do everything he can to keep
- 7:05Speaker 2: this trait of her moves open so he doesn't destroy
- 7:07Speaker 2: the international autonomy with high oil prices. So he's trying.
- 7:14Speaker 2: It's hard, Okay.
- 7:17Speaker 1: I had a story today one of your colleagues, Senator
- 7:20Speaker 1: Tim she from Montana, pointing out that China shipbuilding is
- 7:25Speaker 1: I think he said two hundred and thirty times faster
- 7:29Speaker 1: than what we can do here in America. You're a
- 7:30Speaker 1: navy guy, what do we have to do to change things?
- 7:33Speaker 1: Because that kind of equilibrium puts us on an island.
- 7:38Speaker 2: So he knows. The federal government it's sort of like
- 7:39Speaker 2: a big company, you know, I remember starting to come.
- 7:43Speaker 2: I started with me and nine years later I had
- 7:45Speaker 2: two and eighty five thousand employees. Big companies are easily beatable.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Big governments are beatable because they can't. They become paralysis
- 7:51Speaker 2: and decisions. That's what's happened with our federal government. You can't,
- 7:55Speaker 2: you know, the Navy can't make a decision, and then
- 7:57Speaker 2: they change, constantly change it. So we're going to have
- 8:00Speaker 2: to give give somebody the power to make a decision
- 8:03Speaker 2: and then and then stop changing it. We can do
- 8:06Speaker 2: it when we're more innovative than the Chinese are, but
- 8:10Speaker 2: they're they're not. They're what they're doing and what they
- 8:12Speaker 2: build is not as good as ours. But we're going
- 8:14Speaker 2: to stop changing it. We we just every and it's
- 8:17Speaker 2: just always change and change, and we don't. So it's
- 8:22Speaker 2: all doable. I'm the We're putting a lot of effort
- 8:24Speaker 2: into it. We're not where we need to be. I'm
- 8:26Speaker 2: the chairman of the Subcommittee on Naval Seapower and we
- 8:31Speaker 2: you know, but a lot of it it's it's it's
- 8:33Speaker 2: not it's you know, look our our our the industry
- 8:36Speaker 2: can get better, but most of it is the decision
- 8:39Speaker 2: process in the Navy's got to get better.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Last question, and I appreciate your time, Senator. We've seen
- 8:46Speaker 1: the rise and spread of socialism across this country. I
- 8:49Speaker 1: have constitutional experts on this program that tell me the
- 8:53Speaker 1: constitution allows us to forbid socialists and communists and Marxist
- 8:57Speaker 1: from running for office in this country.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Is it.
- 9:00Speaker 1: I'm for some legislation to test that absolutely.
- 9:03Speaker 2: And I just tell everybody, you can vote your way
- 9:05Speaker 2: into socialism or communism, you have to shoot your way
- 9:08Speaker 2: out of it. Look a look at Venezuela. They have
- 9:12Speaker 2: not gotten rid of socialism. They've voted Chavez in. Yeah,
- 9:16Speaker 2: and if we can do the same thing in this country,
- 9:18Speaker 2: we can destroy this country from within. And that's our
- 9:21Speaker 2: biggest risk. And we are I mean thirty nine trillion
- 9:24Speaker 2: dollars or the debt two train dollars year deficits, you know,
- 9:27Speaker 2: telling everybody you don't have to work, I mean, this
- 9:29Speaker 2: stuff is crazy. I mean, I grew up in a
- 9:32Speaker 2: family and my mom said, you you see your button gear. Rick.
- 9:35Speaker 2: You know, nobody's just taking care of you. You've got
- 9:37Speaker 2: to do it yourself. And that's what we got to
- 9:39Speaker 2: tell people. We want safety nets, but you're not going
- 9:41Speaker 2: to come here and become depend on the government nobody.
- 9:43Speaker 2: I'm whether you're born here of come here, get your
- 9:46Speaker 2: butt to work, work.
- 9:49Speaker 1: I appreciate the sentiment. I'm hoping we might see some
- 9:53Speaker 1: discussion on legislation because you can't elect people that don't
- 9:57Speaker 1: agree with your system of government. Found it on the constitution.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree, Senator.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Always good to have time with you. Thanks again and
- 10:05Speaker 1: I look forward to visiting with you again soon. Christ
- 10:09Speaker 1: Thank you, sir, us Senator Rick Scott with us this morning. Okay,
- 10:15Speaker 1: he agrees. We're cobbling together. See, we're cobbling together a
- 10:20Speaker 1: team to fight the comedies back to finish the program.
