Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: This media podcast. Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the only
- 0:12Speaker 1: game show where conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer
- 0:15Speaker 1: new Art and today we're joined by Jannis Randall, Nate,
- 0:19Speaker 1: Anthony Seth and Cordy. This is a ten round quiz
- 0:22Speaker 1: show with questions from meat eaters for verticals which are hunting, fishing,
- 0:26Speaker 1: conservation and cooking, and there is a prize. Med Eater
- 0:28Speaker 1: will donate five hundred dollars to the conservation organization of
- 0:31Speaker 1: the winners choosing and for the satur of the week.
- 0:34Speaker 1: This week we're looking at our donation tracker. Through one
- 0:37Speaker 1: hundred and sixty five games of Meat Eater Trivia, we've
- 0:40Speaker 1: donated to sixty eight different conservation organizations and chapters. The
- 0:44Speaker 1: most popular choices have been TRCP, nwtf BHA, Coloradans for
- 0:50Speaker 1: Responsible Wildlife Management and the Meat Eater Land Access Initiative.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Of those sixty eight orgs, twenty three of them have
- 0:57Speaker 1: received a single five hundred dollars donation from Meat Eater Trivia. Randall,
- 1:01Speaker 1: I think you're a big part of that. I think
- 1:03Speaker 1: you you spread out the most money.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I was.
- 1:06Speaker 3: I was just trying to find uh. I had a
- 1:08Speaker 3: couple of new requests coming, just trying to dig up
- 1:11Speaker 3: the names of those before I get started here.
- 1:12Speaker 1: So if you win today, it's going to be a
- 1:14Speaker 1: twenty fourth new organization.
- 1:16Speaker 3: It depends on how hockeyst It depends on how reasonably
- 1:19Speaker 3: I can work my way through my Instagram messages.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Does everybody else hear themselves?
- 1:25Speaker 3: Well, I feel like I'm I feel like I can't
- 1:26Speaker 3: hear myself.
- 1:27Speaker 1: This one sounds phil, I can hear you loud and clear.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Oh, tra plugging it now. I'm in my head. Oh,
- 1:35Speaker 2: it's gonna be a bad start.
- 1:36Speaker 4: Cranking some knobs over here and see what happened If
- 1:38Speaker 4: you're in your head this early, that's a tough tough
- 1:41Speaker 4: day for Randall.
- 1:41Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:42Speaker 3: I think it's good to spread it around. Get back
- 1:43Speaker 3: on subject here.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:45Speaker 3: You know, there's a lot of people doing great work
- 1:47Speaker 3: for fish and wildlife all around this country, and a
- 1:50Speaker 3: lot of those smaller groups out there.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Five hundred bucks goes a long way.
- 1:53Speaker 6: You're so noble?
- 1:53Speaker 1: Yeah, hit up Randall. Uh, he'll he'll keep that going.
- 1:56Speaker 1: All right, here's our attitude. Here's our Frequently Asked Questions segment.
- 2:01Speaker 1: If you have a trivia related question, for our crew.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Send it to trivia at the medeater dot com with
- 2:06Speaker 1: the subject line on f a Q. This one is
- 2:08Speaker 1: an f a Q. This is a question I probably
- 2:10Speaker 1: get the most. It's why don't you have Mediater podcast
- 2:13Speaker 1: guests play trivia anymore? It's been a while since we've
- 2:16Speaker 1: had a podcast guest play trivia. There's a few reasons.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I think you're getting a worse show. If we are
- 2:22Speaker 1: asking the people in the room to do a meat
- 2:24Speaker 1: Eater podcast which will go like two and a half hours, uh,
- 2:27Speaker 1: and then immediately after play Mediater trivia, you're just getting
- 2:30Speaker 1: worse energy. I think you're probably not getting as good
- 2:34Speaker 1: of answers as good of banter. I think it's harder
- 2:38Speaker 1: on fill over there to transition from like one show
- 2:42Speaker 1: to the next show.
- 2:43Speaker 2: That's a good point.
- 2:46Speaker 4: It's it's gotta be something. Well, thanks for thinking of me, Spencer.
- 2:49Speaker 4: It's really not not that difficult.
- 2:51Speaker 1: There's there's pros and cons.
- 2:52Speaker 7: I think both me that the media podcast is produced
- 2:56Speaker 7: is a lot different than it was however many years ago,
- 3:00Speaker 7: when we had players doing that more and more, and like,
- 3:03Speaker 7: for example, this episode we're recording today is airing tomorrow
- 3:08Speaker 7: whereas the Mediator podcast sometimes will record one and it
- 3:11Speaker 7: won't drop from three to four weeks.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Yes, scheduling would get really weird with those episodes as well.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I think we are doing the audience more justice by
- 3:22Speaker 1: not cramming it in the same like afternoon as we
- 3:25Speaker 1: do the regular show. You get a better Gianni's, a
- 3:28Speaker 1: better Randal. I seeing it's more fun. You just have
- 3:31Speaker 1: any thoughts on that?
- 3:33Speaker 5: Nope, I agree with the energy. I can see that,
- 3:36Speaker 5: But I also like the energy of having someone fresh
- 3:40Speaker 5: in the room.
- 3:41Speaker 1: That's good. There's like a new camaraderie that has to
- 3:44Speaker 1: be established almost though, when it's like we threw a
- 3:48Speaker 1: we throw a stranger, Yeah, and I think Maate doesn't
- 3:51Speaker 1: like to talk. If we have a stranger here and
- 3:54Speaker 1: we want more Nate.
- 3:55Speaker 2: It has to be.
- 3:56Speaker 3: There's some guests that you're interested in playing trivia with, Yeah,
- 4:02Speaker 3: a lot of them.
- 4:02Speaker 2: I'm not yes exactly.
- 4:04Speaker 1: And I throw them a bone and that helps. But
- 4:08Speaker 1: there's often times where it's like they get the bone
- 4:10Speaker 1: right and maybe one or two more questions, and it's
- 4:13Speaker 1: it's not necessarily fun to embarrass them either, And so
- 4:16Speaker 1: I either like have to make the show something it's not.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Or they sit there and probably don't have a lot
- 4:22Speaker 1: of fun playing trivia like Anthony.
- 4:24Speaker 5: But you're fine embarrassing like Nate and Anthony.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Oh yeah, sure, they're on the payroll.
- 4:30Speaker 5: Nate.
- 4:30Speaker 3: It doesn't get embarrassed, Ny, you get embarrassed.
- 4:33Speaker 5: No, that's the opposite of what I do.
- 4:34Speaker 1: If the right guess rolls through here, we'll plug them
- 4:37Speaker 1: into mediater trivia as well. But I would just say,
- 4:39Speaker 1: don't expect it.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Yeah, we don't want the main pod dragging this thing down.
- 4:43Speaker 1: That's right, exactly.
- 4:45Speaker 2: This is an elevated product.
- 4:47Speaker 1: We have some housekeeping to get to. In our last
- 4:49Speaker 1: episode of Trivia, I had a multiple choice question about
- 4:52Speaker 1: which state harvest the most year between Georgia, Kansas, Ohio,
- 4:55Speaker 1: and South Carolina. The correct answer was Georgia, but in
- 4:58Speaker 1: the flavor text I read the deer population of those states,
- 5:02Speaker 1: not the deer harvest. Now this doesn't change the correct answer.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Georgia still harvests the most year out of those four states,
- 5:08Speaker 1: but I want to give the accurate numbers here. Georgia
- 5:11Speaker 1: harvest two hundred and seventy thousand deer each year, South
- 5:15Speaker 1: Carolina and Ohio harvest two hundred thousand and Kansas harvest
- 5:19Speaker 1: eighty thousand. Georgia is sixth in the nation for total
- 5:23Speaker 1: deer harvest each year.
- 5:26Speaker 5: Damn some I want to take a trip down to Georgia.
- 5:28Speaker 1: You buy a tag, you get ten and two bucks.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Kansas was eighty.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Unlimited eighty thousand. There's a reason they grow their big deer.
- 5:36Speaker 5: So I got that wrong.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Nobody's killing them all check.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Check.
- 5:41Speaker 1: How does it sound over there?
- 5:42Speaker 6: Give you some live sound checking over here? Check.
- 5:45Speaker 2: I think it's fine.
- 5:46Speaker 1: You don't have to wear the headphones, but I like
- 5:49Speaker 1: hearing the headphones.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Let's just go all right.
- 5:51Speaker 1: The Shelby Index for today is a five, so I'm
- 5:54Speaker 1: putting us on perfect score alert and with that, we're
- 5:57Speaker 1: out of the game of trivia. Play the dropvill.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Nice.
- 6:02Speaker 6: I'm sorry.
- 6:03Speaker 7: I just got a slack from Korean and I was
- 6:05Speaker 7: trying to turn the lights off on my phone and
- 6:07Speaker 7: it covers the switch.
- 6:08Speaker 5: Sorry about that, out Gamon suckers.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Question one. The topic is fishing, and this will be
- 6:21Speaker 1: multiple choice. Which of these world record fish is smallest?
- 6:27Speaker 1: Is it brook trout, yellow bullhead, chain pickerel, or yellow perch?
- 6:34Speaker 5: Did you have this question?
- 6:35Speaker 6: But different species.
- 6:36Speaker 1: I've done this questions a few different ways. I've done biggest,
- 6:39Speaker 1: I've done smallest, swamp of species in and out. Which
- 6:42Speaker 1: of these world record fish is smallest weight? Brook trout,
- 6:49Speaker 1: yellow bullhead, chain, pickerel, yellow perch, that is by weight?
- 6:55Speaker 1: Phil is now adjusting a camera. What's the problem? Hold on? Okay?
- 7:03Speaker 1: Which of these world record fish is smallest? Four choices,
- 7:06Speaker 1: brook trout, yellow bullhead chain, pickerel, yellow perch, and that
- 7:09Speaker 1: is measured by weight.
- 7:11Speaker 7: We recorded some kids trivia for an upcoming season of
- 7:13Speaker 7: the Meeting Your Kids podcast, and some kids got too
- 7:15Speaker 7: excited and kicked that camera the other day and I
- 7:17Speaker 7: forgot to adjust it.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Oh was it my kid?
- 7:20Speaker 1: That would be King jew Brownie Junior?
- 7:22Speaker 6: It was either Marshall or No, it wasn't Marshall. Who
- 7:24Speaker 6: I think? I think it was Sage? Yeah, he was
- 7:27Speaker 6: calling you out, Sage.
- 7:31Speaker 1: World record fish is smallest brook trout, yellow bullhead, chain, pickerel,
- 7:34Speaker 1: yellow perch. This is a tough question to start a
- 7:37Speaker 1: potential perfect game with. Players are going to have to
- 7:41Speaker 1: earn this one. Corey, Are you ready?
- 7:43Speaker 2: Yep?
- 7:44Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have, Yannis saying pickerel,
- 7:49Speaker 1: says perch, Randall says perch, Anthony says perch, Nate says pickerel.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Corey says pickerel. The correct answer is yea yellow perch.
- 8:01Speaker 1: About half the room got that one right. The world
- 8:04Speaker 1: record brook trout is fourteen pounds eight ounces, the world
- 8:08Speaker 1: record chain pickerel is nine pounds six ounces, The world
- 8:12Speaker 1: record yellow bullhead is six pounds six ounces, and the
- 8:15Speaker 1: world record yellow perch is four pounds three ounces. It
- 8:19Speaker 1: was caught by doctor c Abbott in Bordentown, New Jersey,
- 8:23Speaker 1: in eighteen sixty five, making it the world's longest standing
- 8:27Speaker 1: record for a freshwater fish freshwater fish four pounds three ounces.
- 8:34Speaker 1: New Jersey doesn't even recognize that as their record anymore.
- 8:38Speaker 1: It's under a different category, the only fish in that category.
- 8:41Speaker 1: It's called the retired state record. So they stopped recognizing
- 8:46Speaker 1: that eighteen sixty five catch. What's the current Oh, it's
- 8:50Speaker 1: like half that for New Jersey. Yeah, it's like two
- 8:53Speaker 1: pounds something. Question two the topic is conservation. This next
- 8:57Speaker 1: great question is via Matthew Stover. This two word term
- 9:02Speaker 1: is defined as quote the practice of public participation and
- 9:07Speaker 1: collaboration in scientific research This is question two. The topic
- 9:15Speaker 1: is conservation. This two word term is defined as the
- 9:19Speaker 1: practice of public participation and collaboration in scientific research. Nate
- 9:26Speaker 1: Corey Randall all quick to answer this one, Janni, do
- 9:29Speaker 1: you have this one right?
- 9:31Speaker 5: I've got one of the words. Okay, the two term.
- 9:36Speaker 1: And question two via Matthew Stover. This two word term
- 9:39Speaker 1: is defined as the practice of public participation and collaboration
- 9:43Speaker 1: in scientific research. I'm guessing the state of New Jersey
- 9:47Speaker 1: thinks there's something fishy with that eighteen sixty five record
- 9:52Speaker 1: perch for them to retire that. You'll find that some
- 9:55Speaker 1: states will do that. My home state of South Dakota
- 9:59Speaker 1: had a fraud odd channel catfish state record for like
- 10:04Speaker 1: sixty years. They had a picture of it. I think
- 10:06Speaker 1: it was caught in the nineteen fifties. But you look
- 10:08Speaker 1: at the picture and you could tell tell by the
- 10:11Speaker 1: anal fin that it was a blue catfish, not a
- 10:13Speaker 1: channel catfish. And so people had brought this to their
- 10:17Speaker 1: attention enough that they finally retired it one day and
- 10:20Speaker 1: started it back at zero. My guess is New Jersey
- 10:23Speaker 1: thinks that world record fish maybe wasn't real kosher.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I have questions.
- 10:28Speaker 3: About how that scale was was standardized.
- 10:32Speaker 1: IGFA recognizes it as the world record. Again, we're on
- 10:36Speaker 1: question two. This two word term is defined as a
- 10:39Speaker 1: practice of public participation and collaboration in scientific research. Was
- 10:44Speaker 1: there a photo of it of the world I couldn't.
- 10:46Speaker 1: I didn't see one online. Maybe it exists, but I
- 10:49Speaker 1: didn't hunt too hard. Say that was in the eighteen
- 10:52Speaker 1: eighteen sixty five. Yeah, there's some shady stuff going yea,
- 10:56Speaker 1: just like.
- 10:56Speaker 3: They thought it could pull fast one while the nation
- 10:59Speaker 3: was mourning a Lincoln.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Yeah, the United States is like half of its size
- 11:03Speaker 1: that it is now. Is everybody ready.
- 11:04Speaker 6: Where they held all the times?
- 11:06Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Yiannis saying
- 11:10Speaker 1: citizen science, Seth says public comment, Randall says citizen science,
- 11:16Speaker 1: Anthony Survey Results, Nate, public comment, Cory citizen science. The
- 11:22Speaker 1: correct answer is citizen science. Think half our players got
- 11:27Speaker 1: that one right. Citizens science is when volunteers help scientists
- 11:31Speaker 1: gather data. It's most commonly used to collect weather information
- 11:34Speaker 1: and track animal populations. Some examples of citizen science include
- 11:39Speaker 1: the National Audubon Society's Christmas Bird count, the monarch Lava
- 11:44Speaker 1: Larva Monitoring Project and the Horseshoe Crab count.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Mountain Goat Counts, the Rocky Mountain Goat Alliance.
- 11:50Speaker 1: You participate in. That's a good one.
- 11:53Speaker 3: No, I have in the past, but it's tough to
- 11:55Speaker 3: line those up with my schedule.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Busy guy guy to be a reading his instagram DM
- 12:02Speaker 1: is about conservation.
- 12:03Speaker 6: You're getting DMS?
- 12:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I get some DMS.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Question three, the topic is hunting ms bro name one
- 12:10Speaker 1: of the two states with a big horn sheep as
- 12:13Speaker 1: their state animal. Fine. Randall got very excited about this question,
- 12:27Speaker 1: threw his chair back and knocked something off the wall.
- 12:29Speaker 1: What do we bring space?
- 12:32Speaker 4: Man?
- 12:33Speaker 1: Is everything in one piece?
- 12:34Speaker 3: Yet the frames not in one pieces?
- 12:39Speaker 1: Oh wow? Okay, it was a very impressive piece of art.
- 12:46Speaker 2: I should be hung on the wall.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Yeah, he did this in heights.
- 12:48Speaker 2: How was the heck of a reaction?
- 12:49Speaker 6: Randall?
- 12:50Speaker 5: Clay Actually Clay drew that.
- 12:53Speaker 1: I think he drew when he was pretty young. He
- 12:55Speaker 1: had a dream of like a storm trooper looking character
- 12:58Speaker 1: hunting a hog. We had to put pen to paper,
- 13:01Speaker 1: and that's what he created. I was back in Clay's
- 13:04Speaker 1: hippie days.
- 13:05Speaker 5: So glad that I now know the backstory again, question three.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Name one of the two states with the big horn
- 13:12Speaker 1: sheep as their state animal. Randall has spent most of
- 13:15Speaker 1: his time fixing the damage he's done over there instead
- 13:19Speaker 1: of writing down an answer. This may throw him off.
- 13:22Speaker 2: No, have you been to.
- 13:24Speaker 5: That museum Rawlins, Wyoming that has the U is it
- 13:28Speaker 5: the boots made out of the guys big nose?
- 13:30Speaker 1: George? I have not been to the museum.
- 13:33Speaker 5: Oh you should go. My wife went this past week.
- 13:36Speaker 5: She was down there for work highly recommended.
- 13:39Speaker 1: I like rollins, cool Rolins, an antelope there. I did
- 13:44Speaker 1: some rock counting there. My wife got stung by a
- 13:47Speaker 1: rattlesnake there two times when we were rock counting some
- 13:50Speaker 1: nice wild horses. She got bit, well about got bit
- 13:54Speaker 1: twice two different times the same day while we were
- 13:58Speaker 1: looking for rocks.
- 13:59Speaker 8: Are you saying like she got fit but it didn't.
- 14:02Speaker 1: No, No, No, like like she's reaching down to grab
- 14:04Speaker 1: a rock and a rattlesnake is within like inches of
- 14:08Speaker 1: the rock shore.
- 14:10Speaker 8: I think you said stune.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Oh a bee, I think you said stung too.
- 14:14Speaker 5: Everybody thought that.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Yeah. Name one of the two states with a big
- 14:18Speaker 1: horn sheep as their state I think I know one. Okay,
- 14:21Speaker 1: it's everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 14:26Speaker 1: have Yanna sang Nevada. He crossed out Colorado, Seth says Wyoming.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Randall says Colorado, Anthony Colorado, Nate Wyoming, Corey Colorado. Correct
- 14:39Speaker 1: answers are Colorado and Nevada. Damn it did well. Colorado
- 14:45Speaker 1: declared the Rocky Mountain big horn sheep their state animal
- 14:48Speaker 1: in nineteen sixty one, and Nevada declared the Desert big
- 14:51Speaker 1: horn sheep their state animal in nineteen seventy three. Both
- 14:55Speaker 1: states also feature a big horn sheep in their Department
- 14:58Speaker 1: of Wildlife logo Question four. The topic is public lands
- 15:03Speaker 1: and this next great question is via Tyler Sheffield. This
- 15:07Speaker 1: National Park, which is located in Kentucky, is home to
- 15:11Speaker 1: the world's longest known cave system. M Randall is now
- 15:20Speaker 1: actually repairing the frame.
- 15:23Speaker 2: I just wanted to provide some noise.
- 15:25Speaker 1: This National Park, which is located in Kentucky. It's home
- 15:30Speaker 1: to the world's longest known cave system.
- 15:33Speaker 6: Randall getting more juice in those headphones. I tried to Yeah, yeah.
- 15:36Speaker 2: It actually sounds much better. Phil, Thank you.
- 15:38Speaker 6: Oh You're welcome anytime.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Janni was talking about Big Nose George. There was a
- 15:41Speaker 1: handbag that was made out of his skin. There were
- 15:44Speaker 1: boots made out of his skin.
- 15:46Speaker 5: Well, the guy that had the boots made was the doctor, right,
- 15:50Speaker 5: but he wanted to have the nipples on him so
- 15:54Speaker 5: that he could prove that they were legit. And whoever
- 15:58Speaker 5: sent them off and did him, they were like, man,
- 16:00Speaker 5: you cross the line. We'll do it out of human skill,
- 16:03Speaker 5: but not within nipples.
- 16:05Speaker 1: I think his skull wound up as an ash tray
- 16:09Speaker 1: of someone's. Another part of his skull I think was
- 16:12Speaker 1: a doorstop from someone somebody.
- 16:14Speaker 5: That's the same part is the top part of his skull.
- 16:17Speaker 5: And again this is just from what my wife learned
- 16:19Speaker 5: last week. But some gal had it and she it
- 16:22Speaker 5: was a multi purpose item and doorstop, ash trays, patoon.
- 16:27Speaker 5: The body had been stuffed into a whiskey barrel buried
- 16:33Speaker 5: for many years when it when they recovered it, the
- 16:37Speaker 5: two were matched up to bring it bring it back together.
- 16:40Speaker 1: I love the story of Big Nose George. He was
- 16:43Speaker 1: He was a cattle rustler by Miles City, then later
- 16:47Speaker 1: had a robbery get out of hand. This National Park,
- 16:50Speaker 1: which is located in Kentucky, is home to the world's
- 16:53Speaker 1: longest known cave system. Randall, do you have this one right? Yes, Corey,
- 16:59Speaker 1: do you have this?
- 17:00Speaker 2: But I didn't fix the frame.
- 17:02Speaker 1: Okay, off there.
- 17:03Speaker 2: I don't think I got it right. No, I got it.
- 17:06Speaker 1: My answer is better than Seth's in front of him.
- 17:15Speaker 4: Oh, I don't know what's going on down there in Kentucky.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Yeah, that Seth is still in Alaska.
- 17:21Speaker 6: I wish.
- 17:24Speaker 1: This National Park, which is located in Kentucky is home
- 17:27Speaker 1: to the world's longest known cave system. Yanni, you give up?
- 17:33Speaker 5: Oh no, I don't want to give up.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Was the fishing in Alaska, Seth.
- 17:39Speaker 4: Well, the days we could actually get out and do
- 17:41Speaker 4: some legit fishing, it was. It was alright, Well, I
- 17:44Speaker 4: would put it at like a five. It's never as
- 17:46Speaker 4: good as it is in the summer. We got some how,
- 17:50Speaker 4: but got some wing cod that were over the slot.
- 17:55Speaker 4: My wife called it a forty seven ish forty eight
- 17:59Speaker 4: and yellow perch, no, no perch. Yeah, lots of lots
- 18:07Speaker 4: of Pacific god and rockfish. And we've got to Halbut
- 18:12Speaker 4: the whole time.
- 18:12Speaker 1: And your story bought Yanni enough time to come up
- 18:15Speaker 1: with an answer.
- 18:15Speaker 5: Is everybody I had this answer earlier. I don't think
- 18:17Speaker 5: it's right.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Ahead and reveal your answers. We have Yiannis saying Mammoth
- 18:22Speaker 1: Seth without an answer. Randall says Mammoth Cave. Anthony Daniel
- 18:26Speaker 1: Boone National Park. Nate says what's that say? Not the
- 18:31Speaker 1: right answer, Cordy says Blue Ridge. The correct answer is
- 18:35Speaker 1: Mammoth Cave National Park. What do you guys think about Yanni? Okay,
- 18:42Speaker 1: he's like saying the Grand National Park instead of Grand Canyon. Okay,
- 18:48Speaker 1: he gets the point.
- 18:49Speaker 6: Man, it's the most important.
- 18:51Speaker 1: There are more than four hundred miles of known caves
- 18:54Speaker 1: in Mammoth Cave National Park, making it twice as long
- 18:58Speaker 1: as the next closest cave. Geologists believe there could be
- 19:01Speaker 1: another six hundred miles of tunnels in the National Park
- 19:04Speaker 1: that have yet to be discovered.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Oh spooky.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Question five?
- 19:09Speaker 4: Is there Daniel Boon National Forest?
- 19:11Speaker 2: Yes? Yeah, that makes me feel better.
- 19:13Speaker 1: Question five The topic is biology. This seven letter word
- 19:17Speaker 1: is defined as quote all the feathers that form the
- 19:21Speaker 1: color and patterns of a particular bird. This seven letter
- 19:28Speaker 1: word is defined as all the feathers that form the
- 19:30Speaker 1: color and patterns of a particular bird, Nate Corey Randall
- 19:37Speaker 1: all quick to answer, Sath and Yanni are joining them.
- 19:41Speaker 1: That means Anthony is the only one with a blank whiteboard.
- 19:45Speaker 8: Can I offer you something for your hosting toolkit?
- 19:48Speaker 1: Sure? Yeah.
- 19:49Speaker 8: Instead of giving zero to ten, you should give them
- 19:52Speaker 8: a negative five to five scale.
- 19:54Speaker 5: Okay, I've heard that this has been brought up by Nate.
- 19:58Speaker 8: With other Really, I'm on a mission to change the one.
- 20:02Speaker 6: Please explain.
- 20:03Speaker 8: Well, if you go zero to ten, you basically feel
- 20:06Speaker 8: obligated to give it a five or above. You just
- 20:09Speaker 8: it's not a real And then like if it was
- 20:11Speaker 8: a really bad time, there's not a great way to
- 20:14Speaker 8: communicate that because two is still positive. So if you
- 20:18Speaker 8: go negative five to five, zero is like perfectly neutral.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Could come or go, it doesn't matter.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, if you enjoyed it, then you give
- 20:25Speaker 1: it a one.
- 20:25Speaker 4: I feel like though, if Spencer asked me that question
- 20:28Speaker 4: for the fishing and I said zero, that would have
- 20:29Speaker 4: made it sound like it called zero fish.
- 20:31Speaker 8: Well you were you perfectly ambivalent to the fishing. Do
- 20:34Speaker 8: you have an okay time, had a great time, then
- 20:36Speaker 8: you probably give it like a three.
- 20:38Speaker 1: That's good. If you scale of one to ten, if.
- 20:42Speaker 6: That's my terrible taking, that's my point.
- 20:44Speaker 5: Yeah, I heard for a second.
- 20:48Speaker 1: First, you know it's not revant.
- 20:51Speaker 8: What would you give a day where you caught zero fish?
- 20:54Speaker 3: They say about the worst day of fishing.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Beats the best day working Here.
- 21:00Speaker 1: A scale that a scale that does need adjustment is
- 21:04Speaker 1: like product reviews of one to five star point because
- 21:08Speaker 1: if something was like just didn't show up at all, right,
- 21:11Speaker 1: like say it was worst case scenario, didn't arrive in
- 21:15Speaker 1: the mail, that should be a zero, but you have
- 21:16Speaker 1: to give it a one.
- 21:17Speaker 8: That's what I'm saying.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Yeah, Or like restaurant reviews, you know, if you really
- 21:21Speaker 1: didn't like it, that's a hard negative thought.
- 21:22Speaker 8: That's what I'm saying.
- 21:24Speaker 2: I could go with.
- 21:24Speaker 6: But fishing, yeah, I don't do much restaurant reviews.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Same again.
- 21:28Speaker 1: This seven letter word is defined as all the feathers
- 21:31Speaker 1: that formed the color and patterns of a particular bird.
- 21:34Speaker 1: As everybody right now.
- 21:35Speaker 5: But do you want to hear my one and only
- 21:37Speaker 5: restaurant review story. Yes, I gave one to a restaurant
- 21:40Speaker 5: in town and something on what like Google?
- 21:43Speaker 1: Yelp?
- 21:44Speaker 5: Yeah, probably just Google, I think. But it's such bad
- 21:49Speaker 5: customer service. The food was mediocre too, but the kid
- 21:53Speaker 5: told me that they normally don't melt cheese on the nachos.
- 21:56Speaker 5: I'm like, you gotta be kidding me, dude, Like unmelted
- 21:59Speaker 5: cheese not just is not a thing. And he was
- 22:02Speaker 5: making a sound like, oh no, at this establishment, it is.
- 22:05Speaker 5: And he was kind of giving me some slack about it,
- 22:07Speaker 5: which is which just got me fired up enough to
- 22:09Speaker 5: post it. Well, like a month or two later, a
- 22:13Speaker 5: guy that works for us as a contractor, it's like, oh,
- 22:17Speaker 5: I was talking to my buddy who owns X, and.
- 22:19Speaker 1: He's like, what's up with that? Yannest guy?
- 22:23Speaker 5: Did you leave it one star? I just I just
- 22:26Speaker 5: said I told him what I just told you. I
- 22:29Speaker 5: don't even know how many stars I left him, But
- 22:31Speaker 5: it was because this.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Starting system is so confusing.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Exactly, go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Yanni
- 22:40Speaker 1: and Seth saying plumage. Anthony says the look natin Corey
- 22:47Speaker 1: say plumage. They got it. The correct answer is plumage.
- 22:51Speaker 1: The plumage of a bird serves many functions such as insulation, camouflage, display,
- 22:56Speaker 1: and of course flying. An individual's plumage will chain age
- 23:00Speaker 1: based on the weather, breeding age, diet and molting. Phil,
- 23:04Speaker 1: We're halfway through the game of trivia. Give us a
- 23:06Speaker 1: scoreboard update.
- 23:09Speaker 6: Tough game for intern Nate. He's got one point on the.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Boards, declaring that last week he uh beat Randall in
- 23:19Speaker 1: his car playing trivia.
- 23:20Speaker 6: No, we have no proof.
- 23:22Speaker 3: Actually it's not Internate, it's intern having Nate because he's
- 23:27Speaker 3: got an intern.
- 23:30Speaker 1: The quickest half turn, the quickest anyone's ever gone from
- 23:33Speaker 1: being an intern to having an intern.
- 23:35Speaker 5: Good for you.
- 23:38Speaker 8: But I have one point, so I'll hang my head.
- 23:39Speaker 7: And Corey's got three, Jannis has four, and with a
- 23:45Speaker 7: perfect game, it's doctor Randall Williams of five points.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Question six. The topic is conservation. This is our listener
- 23:57Speaker 1: question of the Week, which was won by east In
- 24:00Speaker 1: Johnson for sending this great question. Easton is going to
- 24:03Speaker 1: get a board game signed by the crew. If you
- 24:05Speaker 1: want a chance to win the listener Question of the
- 24:06Speaker 1: Week and send your question to Trivia at the meat
- 24:09Speaker 1: eater dot com.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Come.
- 24:11Speaker 1: This musician who died in twenty twenty three, founded the
- 24:15Speaker 1: conservation group Save the Manatee Club. This musician who died
- 24:23Speaker 1: in twenty twenty three founded the conservation group Save the
- 24:27Speaker 1: Manatee Club.
- 24:29Speaker 5: I think this guy's.
- 24:32Speaker 1: A musician. My wife gave an answer of someone who
- 24:36Speaker 1: was not dead, so see if anyone can join her.
- 24:41Speaker 1: This musician, who died in twenty twenty three founded the conservation.
- 24:50Speaker 6: It's very subjective.
- 24:52Speaker 5: Well, yeah, you think he's.
- 24:55Speaker 1: A big manatee fan. Who is le have to tell
- 24:59Speaker 1: you don't like man easy, get the hell out of here.
- 25:02Speaker 5: I would like I would like to taste a man
- 25:04Speaker 5: tea one day.
- 25:05Speaker 1: I didn't How did the Conservation group save the Manateee Club?
- 25:12Speaker 5: M m, I mean, but the whole thing, I don't know.
- 25:16Speaker 2: It might be behind the broken painting.
- 25:24Speaker 5: Clay three claim might be the only guy I know
- 25:29Speaker 5: that takes things from his dreams and writes about him,
- 25:34Speaker 5: draws pictures about him, and then things happen that mm hm,
- 25:41Speaker 5: you know, come to fruition after he's had the dream,
- 25:45Speaker 5: his dreams come true. I've never had a dream about
- 25:47Speaker 5: a big buck waiting for that, though. If I have one,
- 25:50Speaker 5: I'm definitely gonna write a story about it and draw
- 25:53Speaker 5: a picture. Have you ever had a dream about My dreams.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Are vivid enough, like I've dreamt about hunting and fishing,
- 26:00Speaker 1: and like you know, finding a really special mushroom. But
- 26:05Speaker 1: it's like it doesn't stick with me to where I
- 26:08Speaker 1: could come out of that experience and draw a picture
- 26:11Speaker 1: of it or write a story about it.
- 26:14Speaker 3: All of my dreams involved me doing heinous thing, and
- 26:18Speaker 3: then I'm racked by guilt. It's like it's like it's
- 26:21Speaker 3: like crime and punishment, and I'm my own little Raskolnikoff.
- 26:25Speaker 1: You just got to walk around with that.
- 26:26Speaker 3: And then I wake up and I'm already anxious before
- 26:30Speaker 3: the day started.
- 26:31Speaker 1: Goes back to this musician who died in twenty twenty three,
- 26:36Speaker 1: founded the conservation group Save the Manatee Club. Is everybody ready,
- 26:40Speaker 1: go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Yiannis and
- 26:44Speaker 1: Seth and Randall saying Jimmy Buffett. Anthony says kiss, Nate
- 26:49Speaker 1: says Elton John who's still alive. Corey says Jimmy. Correct
- 26:56Speaker 1: answer is Jimmy Buffett, all right. Buffett founded the Oregon
- 27:02Speaker 1: nineteen eighty one along with Florida's Governor Bob Graham. The
- 27:06Speaker 1: group's mission is to protect manates and their habitat. Jimmy
- 27:09Speaker 1: admire the animal and was once quoted saying to me
- 27:12Speaker 1: the Manatee represents what we all like about Florida, kind
- 27:16Speaker 1: of cruising in warm clear water and not bothering anybody.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Kid Rock would never say that. About question seven, the
- 27:25Speaker 1: topic is fishing. This next great question is via John Schlessinger.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Which species of salmon is also known as king salmon?
- 27:37Speaker 1: Which species of salmon is also known as king salmon?
- 27:40Speaker 1: Cory and Randall quick to answer. This might keep the
- 27:45Speaker 1: perfect game for Randal going through seven questions. Oh miss,
- 27:55Speaker 1: which species of salmon is also known as king salmon?
- 27:59Speaker 5: I need Randal the balter? Aren't you getting anxious?
- 28:02Speaker 1: Me?
- 28:03Speaker 8: No?
- 28:04Speaker 1: Randall looking at me, he stays anxious. There's no getting anxious.
- 28:11Speaker 6: I don't know this one.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Which species of salmon is also known as king salmon?
- 28:15Speaker 1: You know? Do you know this one? Yanni?
- 28:17Speaker 5: I think I think so.
- 28:20Speaker 3: I think the other salmon species would be trickier.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Oh sure, yeah, hm hmmm?
- 28:29Speaker 5: Which him Brand used to be a guide for these,
- 28:34Speaker 5: he knows.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Cory was maybe the first player to have an answer.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Now he's changed. Okay, in turn having Nate though, he's
- 28:49Speaker 1: stumped when.
- 28:50Speaker 5: You got that tattoo done?
- 28:52Speaker 1: Did he do it?
- 28:52Speaker 5: And then you're like, you know what make that forth
- 28:55Speaker 5: just a little bit.
- 28:57Speaker 4: No.
- 28:59Speaker 1: No, that's actually the logo for the guide school that
- 29:02Speaker 1: I went to, Royal Time Guide School.
- 29:04Speaker 5: Shout out to Cody and larray Henson, Peeburg, Montana.
- 29:08Speaker 1: They raised some good guides there.
- 29:09Speaker 3: Huh few how many, it's kind I'm of the best
- 29:12Speaker 3: in the industry if I'm judging by present company.
- 29:16Speaker 5: How many days did you uh spend? It said guide
- 29:19Speaker 5: School four weeks.
- 29:23Speaker 6: Five scale or interest.
- 29:24Speaker 1: Great learn how to mostly learn how to packs. I've
- 29:30Speaker 1: asked Corey this before, but I've I've I've been interviewed
- 29:35Speaker 1: hundreds of whitetail guides for like articles and retfresh radio
- 29:39Speaker 1: and stuff like that, and I found that a lot
- 29:42Speaker 1: of whitetail guides like know their property better than they
- 29:46Speaker 1: know deer. And so if you had a guide in
- 29:49Speaker 1: Iowa whose clients always killed one hundred and fifty inch bucks,
- 29:53Speaker 1: if you took him out of that little habitat and
- 29:56Speaker 1: dumped him on a piece of public land in Oklahoma
- 29:59Speaker 1: or Kentucky, uh, they would struggle. I found more guides
- 30:02Speaker 1: were like that kind of person than they were just
- 30:05Speaker 1: like a killer white tail hunter. Cordy says, elk guides,
- 30:09Speaker 1: though they're all killer elk hunters. You agree with that? Yeah,
- 30:13Speaker 1: you think so.
- 30:15Speaker 5: I mean know in your country still behooves you big time.
- 30:18Speaker 5: But yeah, it's not quite as nuanced I think as that.
- 30:24Speaker 5: Oh is that white tail game?
- 30:26Speaker 1: Okay, let's end that conversation there.
- 30:28Speaker 4: I like that.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Yanni. Is everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 30:33Speaker 1: We have Yannis saying chinook, Seth says Coho, Randall says chinook,
- 30:40Speaker 1: Anthony Coho, Nate SAKEI Cory Atlantic.
- 30:45Speaker 8: Guy, dude, I don't know crap out fishing, dude.
- 30:48Speaker 1: The correct answer is a chanook. So we had Yannis
- 30:51Speaker 1: and Randall get that one right. Chinook salmon are the
- 30:55Speaker 1: largest of the Pacific salmon in the ocean. They have
- 30:59Speaker 1: a blue green back in silversides, and in fresh water
- 31:02Speaker 1: they turn olive, brown, red, or purple. They have black
- 31:06Speaker 1: pigment along their gum line, which has led to the
- 31:08Speaker 1: other nickname, Oh, mister black gums. Yeah, black gums are blackmouth.
- 31:12Speaker 1: Randall said that before we even got to the fleet.
- 31:15Speaker 2: I didn't think that would give it away, that would
- 31:17Speaker 2: not That.
- 31:18Speaker 1: Didn't question eight. The topic is cooking.
- 31:21Speaker 7: Oh.
- 31:22Speaker 1: This five letter brand claims to be the quote oldest
- 31:26Speaker 1: and longest running cast iron manufacturer in the United States. Nate,
- 31:34Speaker 1: Randall and Anthony all confident about this one. This five
- 31:37Speaker 1: letter brand claims to be the oldest and longest running
- 31:40Speaker 1: cast iron manufacture in the United States.
- 31:45Speaker 5: They claim to be or they are.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Well, I can't you know, necessarily check. This is what
- 31:50Speaker 1: they say on their website. I didn't thoroughly investigate all
- 31:54Speaker 1: the cast iron manufacturers to see when they were founded.
- 31:57Speaker 1: If you would have said it they are the oldest,
- 31:59Speaker 1: you would have gotten a lot of pushback. Maybe, So
- 32:02Speaker 1: then that's why we say they That's.
- 32:04Speaker 5: Why lawyers right this questions. That's yeah, I think I
- 32:08Speaker 5: can only name maybe one other in how many cast
- 32:14Speaker 5: iron companies can you name?
- 32:16Speaker 6: I got three?
- 32:17Speaker 2: We're not real No, geez, I got you.
- 32:21Speaker 5: Impressed.
- 32:22Speaker 1: Yeah, it's everybody ready contest. Yeah, well, go for it
- 32:26Speaker 1: right now, go ahead and reveal your answers. We have
- 32:29Speaker 1: Giannis and Seth and Randall and Anthony and Nate and
- 32:32Speaker 1: Corey sang Lodge, they got it the correct answer to Lodge.
- 32:38Speaker 1: Lodge was founded in Tennessee by Joseph Lodge in eighteen
- 32:42Speaker 1: ninety six. The company was originally called Blacklock and focused
- 32:46Speaker 1: on making tea kettles and kitchen sinks. They changed the
- 32:49Speaker 1: industry in two thousand and two when they became the
- 32:52Speaker 1: first brand to sell seasoned cast iron cookwaar. Prior to that,
- 32:56Speaker 1: cast iron was sold unseasoned with a thin layer of
- 32:59Speaker 1: wax that had to be washed off at home. Phil,
- 33:03Speaker 1: let's get a scoreboard update. We have two questions left.
- 33:09Speaker 4: We got Nate still in last place the two points.
- 33:11Speaker 4: Anthony has three, Seth has four, Koreas five, and the
- 33:14Speaker 4: two players left in the game are Yannis Boutellis with
- 33:17Speaker 4: seven and Randon Williams with eight.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Question nine the topic was natural history.
- 33:22Speaker 8: Yeah, oh yeah.
- 33:24Speaker 1: This Native American who served as a translator for the
- 33:28Speaker 1: may Flower had a Disney movie made about him in
- 33:31Speaker 1: nineteen ninety four. WHOA Randall has already answered this one?
- 33:38Speaker 1: This Native American who served as a translator for the
- 33:42Speaker 1: Mayflower had a Disney movie made about him in nineteen
- 33:45Speaker 1: ninety four about him.
- 33:50Speaker 6: That him really throws you off?
- 33:52Speaker 5: Yeah, because the only translator that we know as a female.
- 33:58Speaker 1: Randal. Do you have this one right?
- 34:01Speaker 2: Yes? But I was trying to come up with the
- 34:06Speaker 2: the real spelling.
- 34:07Speaker 1: Oh Okay, he does know this one. This Native American
- 34:11Speaker 1: who served as a translator for the Mayflower had a
- 34:15Speaker 1: Disney movie made about him in nineteen ninety four.
- 34:18Speaker 5: Tricky spelling.
- 34:19Speaker 1: That's a hint, Phil, Have you ever seen this movie?
- 34:22Speaker 6: I have not.
- 34:22Speaker 1: Randall, have you ever seen this movie? I have not. Again,
- 34:27Speaker 1: this is question nine. If Randall has this one right,
- 34:30Speaker 1: which it seems that he does, this would keep his
- 34:33Speaker 1: perfect game going into the final question. Nate, do you
- 34:37Speaker 1: have this one right?
- 34:38Speaker 8: I think so, But you know, the silver lining of
- 34:42Speaker 8: this game is now, I know I can't dress like
- 34:44Speaker 8: a slob and come in here and perform.
- 34:47Speaker 7: Yeah, maybe in the middle like a turtle NIGHTCA zero
- 34:50Speaker 7: just like normal.
- 34:52Speaker 5: I don't have to dress.
- 34:55Speaker 2: Just dressed like a zero?
- 34:56Speaker 6: A zero?
- 34:56Speaker 8: Does that mean negative?
- 34:59Speaker 2: Like negative?
- 35:00Speaker 8: Three?
- 35:00Speaker 1: Right now?
- 35:01Speaker 5: Those are nice clothes.
- 35:02Speaker 8: I got socks and stocks on.
- 35:04Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, that's.
- 35:05Speaker 6: Socks and what stocks?
- 35:08Speaker 1: Oh? Yeah? This Native American who served as a translator
- 35:13Speaker 1: for the Mayflower had a Disney movie made about him
- 35:16Speaker 1: in nineteen ninety four.
- 35:17Speaker 5: My kids say that it's only cool to wear the
- 35:20Speaker 5: crocs or stocks with socks, and then if you go
- 35:24Speaker 5: barefooted that you're an old guy, pervert.
- 35:27Speaker 8: That that's true, But I don't think they're talking about
- 35:30Speaker 8: white ankle socks and birkenstocks.
- 35:32Speaker 5: No, that's what they wear about socks and cross He
- 35:37Speaker 5: didn't know.
- 35:37Speaker 4: He was just look at that.
- 35:38Speaker 5: I'm a socks crocs guy.
- 35:40Speaker 1: Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers?
- 35:45Speaker 6: What's that?
- 35:46Speaker 1: Say Yanni Seth without an answer? Randall says Squanto, Anthony
- 35:52Speaker 1: without an answer. Nate says Squanto. Wow, forty says Lego
- 35:56Speaker 1: and Stitch. The correct answer is squanto or squantum oh.
- 36:04Speaker 1: Squanta was kidnapped by an English explorer in sixteen fourteen
- 36:08Speaker 1: and spent five years in Europe before returning home to
- 36:12Speaker 1: America in sixteen nineteen. He served as a liaison between
- 36:16Speaker 1: tribes in southern New England and the Mayflower Pilgrims. In
- 36:19Speaker 1: sixteen twenty, the Disney movie about his life only made
- 36:22Speaker 1: three million dollars at the box office and was considered
- 36:26Speaker 1: a commercial failure. Randall has the perfect game going into
- 36:31Speaker 1: question ten. He's already wrapped up the victory. We'll see
- 36:34Speaker 1: if we can double today's donation. Question ten, the topic
- 36:38Speaker 1: is hunting. Which Canadian province has a subspecies of elk
- 36:44Speaker 1: named after it softball? Which Canadian province has a subspecies
- 36:50Speaker 1: of elk named after it? Randal already has his answer, Randal,
- 36:55Speaker 1: do you have this one right? I believe so? Okay?
- 36:59Speaker 1: Yiannis also confident which Canadian province has a subspecies of
- 37:04Speaker 1: elk named after it? And Randal is so confident he
- 37:07Speaker 1: is farming his Instagram dms right now to see what
