- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:05Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus after ten yard line. Second to day free
- 0:09Speaker 1: wide receivers now in motion, has Puppas left or right,
- 0:12Speaker 1: Julius Jones a single setback Matt Pumpecks looking at the
- 0:14Speaker 1: goal line, he throws it into the end zone. Touchdown
- 0:17Speaker 1: Sea Hawks. It's Michael Bumpas with a diving kitchen the
- 0:21Speaker 1: end zone. Our ten yard touchdown reception for Bumpas, and
- 0:26Speaker 1: the kid out of Washington State has found himself a
- 0:29Speaker 1: place on this team. Powered by Seahawks dot Com. What's up, twelves?
- 0:34Speaker 1: Has been a while? This is Michael Bumpers that you're
- 0:36Speaker 1: listening to Hawk Talking. Of course, I'm with my guy
- 0:40Speaker 1: NaSTA Choby Nast. What's up? Man? How you been? What's good?
- 0:42Speaker 1: Bump has been too damn wants and we've been on
- 0:44Speaker 1: this thing. Man. I'm happy to chop it up with you.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Me too, man, me too. And of course this is
- 0:48Speaker 1: the draft recap. We gotta talk about what happened and
- 0:51Speaker 1: what had happened in the draft. See what had happened
- 0:53Speaker 1: at first work, what had happened was on Hawk Talk?
- 1:01Speaker 1: What had happened. Was the first two picks pretty predictable, right.
- 1:04Speaker 1: We knew Trevor Lawrence was going to the Jacksonville Jaguars,
- 1:08Speaker 1: he was gonna be the guy to say this franchise.
- 1:10Speaker 1: We knew Zach Wilson was going to the New York Jets,
- 1:14Speaker 1: which I must say, after looking at Zach Wilson, I
- 1:17Speaker 1: don't know if New York is gonna fit for him. Man,
- 1:19Speaker 1: he looks he looks a little uptight. You know, you
- 1:21Speaker 1: got to have some confidence and some swag about you.
- 1:24Speaker 1: You have swag on the field, but off the field,
- 1:26Speaker 1: I don't know if his personality fits in New York. Yeah, man,
- 1:29Speaker 1: I know. I think you're talking about that viral video
- 1:30Speaker 1: when all the draft picks are getting together in front
- 1:32Speaker 1: of the television and he just looked like that moment
- 1:35Speaker 1: didn't really fit. But who knows the problem those New
- 1:38Speaker 1: York is a tough market, man. They are just they're
- 1:41Speaker 1: essentially waiting for you to fail. So the luck to
- 1:44Speaker 1: his Zach. I hope he brings some of that stuff
- 1:45Speaker 1: he had at BYU onto the field, because you're gonna
- 1:47Speaker 1: need it. You're gonna need it over there. Now, got
- 1:50Speaker 1: a little tricky number three, Trey Lands goes to the
- 1:53Speaker 1: forty nine ers. Me personally, I thought Justin Fields was
- 1:56Speaker 1: the right pick. We heard Mac Jones was gonna be
- 1:58Speaker 1: the guy. Justin ill Stock just slip for some reason.
- 2:02Speaker 1: I don't understand what was going on. The guys twenty
- 2:04Speaker 1: and two as a starter, won a national championship, showed
- 2:07Speaker 1: some toughness, I don't give it. But the forty nine
- 2:10Speaker 1: ers they kept his information close to him. They end
- 2:13Speaker 1: up drafting Trey Lance at the number three spot, which
- 2:16Speaker 1: I'm not mad at it. I am mad because the
- 2:19Speaker 1: hoss got to face him, But I understand why they
- 2:21Speaker 1: would pick this guy. Yeah, no, I mean he obviously
- 2:23Speaker 1: he was on top of their board. Shanahan and Lynch
- 2:26Speaker 1: kept it close to the vest. They knew the guy
- 2:27Speaker 1: that they wanted. It was interesting too, because they kind
- 2:30Speaker 1: of left the Mac Jones rumors just kind of stay
- 2:32Speaker 1: out there because for a while everyone thought Jones was
- 2:33Speaker 1: going to the forty nine ers at number three. But
- 2:36Speaker 1: what do you think that does for Garoppolo? Right? Because
- 2:38Speaker 1: they're saying all the right things. They're saying Garoppolo is
- 2:40Speaker 1: still gonna you know, he's still gonna start. He so
- 2:42Speaker 1: their quarterback, kind of a mentor situation, maybe kind of
- 2:45Speaker 1: all Alex Smith, Patrick Mahomes. But how soon do you
- 2:49Speaker 1: think we see Trey Lance on that football field? Honestly,
- 2:52Speaker 1: week one or two. I think it's gonna be that earlier.
- 2:55Speaker 1: I honestly think that if if Trey Lance is the
- 2:58Speaker 1: guy that we hear that he is, that the four
- 3:00Speaker 1: thinks he is. He's a smart guy, he's competitive, he's mobile.
- 3:04Speaker 1: He has some accuracy issues, but I think with their
- 3:07Speaker 1: their scheme on offense, they can kind of work around that.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I think we're gonna see him earlier than later. And
- 3:12Speaker 1: if he flashes during camp, Jimmy already feels the pressure,
- 3:16Speaker 1: he's gonna feel even more pressure. They're trying to gracefully
- 3:20Speaker 1: push him out the door. You know, they're not kicking
- 3:22Speaker 1: him out. They're like, look, man, we got a new toy,
- 3:25Speaker 1: been towards this guy. We'll see what he does. Now.
- 3:28Speaker 1: What's surprised to me? Mac Jones falls to number fifteen,
- 3:33Speaker 1: But I think he lands in the perfect spot for him.
- 3:35Speaker 1: New England Pages you like that pick, Yeah, I mean
- 3:38Speaker 1: that's exactly what they wanted, And honestly, I think a
- 3:40Speaker 1: lot of people in their shoes, thought they're gonna have
- 3:41Speaker 1: to trade up to get him that he wasn't still
- 3:43Speaker 1: gonna be there. Obviously, he's all about the quarterbacks leading
- 3:46Speaker 1: up to the draft. But I think it's a great fit.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I mean, are you kidding me? With Bill Belichick and
- 3:50Speaker 1: Josh McDaniels, you still got Cam on the roster. So
- 3:53Speaker 1: it's one year probably under Cam or who knows. Cam's
- 3:55Speaker 1: had a lot of injury issues. So maybe Mac Jones
- 3:57Speaker 1: gets playing time early because last year the Patriots backup.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I'm blanking on his name, stid him. I think his
- 4:02Speaker 1: name was. He played in a lot of games, and
- 4:04Speaker 1: it wasn't necessarily just because Cam was heard. It was
- 4:06Speaker 1: kind of for some play reasons on the field. So
- 4:08Speaker 1: I think I think Mac Jones could not have gone
- 4:11Speaker 1: to a better place just to They're gonna find a
- 4:12Speaker 1: way for his skill set to pop with that offense.
- 4:15Speaker 1: So it'll be interesting to see how that future goes.
- 4:18Speaker 1: If Cam Cam is already self motivated, remember last year,
- 4:22Speaker 1: you know all the videos he's putting out, He's got
- 4:24Speaker 1: to be motivated now he feels that pressure, he's on
- 4:26Speaker 1: the last leg of his career. We'll see how responsive
- 4:29Speaker 1: Mac Jones, But I want to go back to the
- 4:30Speaker 1: Bears real quick. I'm kind of proud of the Bears. Man.
- 4:33Speaker 1: I'm proud of that right because because they jacked it
- 4:36Speaker 1: up a few years ago. You passed the homes, you
- 4:38Speaker 1: passed them Deshaun Watson that say, you know what, this
- 4:40Speaker 1: thing's gonna happen again, and they move up to get
- 4:43Speaker 1: Justin Phils. So I'm happy for the Bears. They finally
- 4:46Speaker 1: did something right, No, exactly right. And I think back
- 4:49Speaker 1: to the tweet. Do you remember early in the offseason
- 4:51Speaker 1: when they tweeted out QB one in those picture of
- 4:53Speaker 1: Andy Dalton. I was thinking about that. I was like,
- 4:56Speaker 1: why did you do the unnecessary criticism? They didn't need that.
- 4:59Speaker 1: But I love the pick, And honestly, I'm really hyped
- 5:01Speaker 1: for Justin Fields because, like you said, I have no
- 5:03Speaker 1: idea why he plummeted all of a sudden from going
- 5:05Speaker 1: to playing in the college football playoffs. All of a sudden,
- 5:07Speaker 1: now you can't play anymore, and we're concerned about your
- 5:10Speaker 1: actors for you and all that, and people were talking
- 5:11Speaker 1: about his interceptions or when you really look at the film.
- 5:14Speaker 1: A couple of those people brought up that Northwestern game.
- 5:17Speaker 1: One of those was that one handed incredible pick in
- 5:19Speaker 1: the back of the end zone. Another game he had
- 5:21Speaker 1: balls tips. So I thought a lot of the criticism
- 5:23Speaker 1: was unfair with Justin So I'm just really happy that
- 5:26Speaker 1: he was a first rounder and he got drafted in
- 5:28Speaker 1: the first round, and Chicago has could have something there. Man,
- 5:31Speaker 1: they could have finally made up for the Mischgelbiskie decision
- 5:35Speaker 1: over Patrick Mahomes. So we'll see about that. But happy
- 5:38Speaker 1: for Justin Fields. Now Alabama, goodness, Grace. Now, I'm not
- 5:42Speaker 1: an Alabama supporter, but I understand who they are and
- 5:46Speaker 1: understand what they do, and what they did was to
- 5:48Speaker 1: have six players drafted in the first round. You kid me,
- 5:51Speaker 1: we talked about mac Jones. Of course, you got Wattle,
- 5:54Speaker 1: you got a certain you got the Vonte Smith, you
- 5:58Speaker 1: got Leatherwood. Yeah, Harris, I mean they are if when
- 6:03Speaker 1: you talk about a factory, when you talk about a
- 6:05Speaker 1: theater program to the NFL, you talk about Nick Saban
- 6:09Speaker 1: and those Alabama boys, Man, it's something special guy going
- 6:12Speaker 1: down there. Nick Saban is an incredible football coach, the
- 6:16Speaker 1: best college football coach in the land maybe ever. But man,
- 6:20Speaker 1: they have better players than everyone else in the country.
- 6:24Speaker 1: And it's year after year after year. All those two
- 6:27Speaker 1: you guys do, all lining up on the same offense.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Are you kidding me crazy? Like you look at that
- 6:32Speaker 1: receiver room. That receiver room. Shoot, I'm saying it's better
- 6:37Speaker 1: than some receiver rooms in the National Football League. And
- 6:40Speaker 1: that was in the SEC. So like Obama is there,
- 6:44Speaker 1: they are, man, They're just there's a different animal, different,
- 6:47Speaker 1: totally different beasts. I mean, it's it's a year after
- 6:49Speaker 1: year after year. So don't be surprised. I would love
- 6:53Speaker 1: to be a coach there from the standpoint of winning.
- 6:55Speaker 1: It might be a little tough underneath Saban that whole time,
- 6:58Speaker 1: but all they do is win because they were players
- 7:00Speaker 1: that are better than other people's players. Straight up. Last
- 7:03Speaker 1: year you got Judy who comes out receiver from Alabama,
- 7:06Speaker 1: got Rugs who comes out receiver from Alabama, and then
- 7:09Speaker 1: they put out a few more this year. It makes
- 7:11Speaker 1: me sick. Low key, I'm just a little jealous. Wazoo
- 7:14Speaker 1: where we Yeah, come on, let's give one receiver out
- 7:16Speaker 1: in the draft next year. Hey, you know soon enough?
- 7:18Speaker 1: Maybe maybe maybe. All right, let's talk about these first
- 7:21Speaker 1: round positions. So in the first round. We have five
- 7:24Speaker 1: quarterbacks go, two running backs, five receivers, one tight end,
- 7:29Speaker 1: one tackle, one guard, four dns, which I was surprised
- 7:33Speaker 1: because it wasn't a great year for edge rushers, but
- 7:35Speaker 1: they still got some guys out. Two inside linebackers, three
- 7:38Speaker 1: outside backers, five corners, No d tackles or centers drafted. Now,
- 7:45Speaker 1: the draft is is the way the cookie crumbles right.
- 7:48Speaker 1: One team makes one move it might have taken away
- 7:51Speaker 1: from another team's podcasting down. Now they make CAMUSO. It's
- 7:54Speaker 1: hard to say, like, Okay, there's weren't any d tackles
- 7:57Speaker 1: or centers that were first round grades. Sometimes that's just
- 8:00Speaker 1: the way it happens because of picks prior to say
- 8:05Speaker 1: a middle tier team going. So I wouldn't put too
- 8:08Speaker 1: much stock in that because I feel like there are
- 8:10Speaker 1: some good de tackles and centers there. But that's the
- 8:12Speaker 1: breakdown for the first round. Were you surprised with how
- 8:14Speaker 1: many receivers or was there a position that just stood
- 8:17Speaker 1: out to you when it came to the picks in
- 8:19Speaker 1: the first round. Really, the only thing we new quarterbacks,
- 8:21Speaker 1: We're gonna we new quarterbacks were going to be drafted
- 8:22Speaker 1: all over. We knew, you know. For me, receivers not
- 8:26Speaker 1: not so surprising, just because the way the league is
- 8:28Speaker 1: going now and the way people throw the ball. You
- 8:29Speaker 1: need playmakers, need people stretch the field, you need guys
- 8:31Speaker 1: on the inside. I was I wouldn't put too much
- 8:34Speaker 1: stock on it. Like you said, I was a little surprised.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Defensive tackle. That's just you always know. There's at least
- 8:39Speaker 1: one or two every year, typically probably one from Alabama probably,
- 8:43Speaker 1: you know, So it was it's surprise center. Not as much.
- 8:46Speaker 1: I was surprised the defensive tackle, but I'm not surprised
- 8:49Speaker 1: the quarterback, wide receiver, or cornerback for that matter, because
- 8:52Speaker 1: with all these good receivers in the league every year
- 8:54Speaker 1: we might say this, it feels like receivers are getting
- 8:56Speaker 1: better and better. An offense is getting better and better,
- 8:58Speaker 1: so it's harder to find guys to try to stop them.
- 9:00Speaker 1: So not surprised that many quarters went. But yeah, the
- 9:03Speaker 1: first round was. It was an interesting day. It was
- 9:05Speaker 1: good to see people back in. It wasn't all virtual. Yeah,
- 9:09Speaker 1: I don't know how I feel about the couch situation,
- 9:13Speaker 1: but that aside, it was really cool just to see
- 9:15Speaker 1: people hugging Roger Goodell getting out there, having that moment
- 9:18Speaker 1: with their families, not in, you know, secluded to their
- 9:21Speaker 1: living rooms or basements if they wanted to be out there.
- 9:23Speaker 1: So it was cool to see the draft kind of
- 9:25Speaker 1: get back to normal with kind of let us feel
- 9:28Speaker 1: like there's hope that we're getting back to the world
- 9:30Speaker 1: we used to know pre COVID. Yeah, because that's that's
- 9:33Speaker 1: what you dream about. Man. You want to shake Goodell's heads,
- 9:35Speaker 1: you want to hug him. It's a big mument for
- 9:37Speaker 1: those guys. I'm glad they got a chance to experience it. Now,
- 9:40Speaker 1: let's talk about these Seahawks. Seahawks had three picks. It's
- 9:42Speaker 1: the second people was players drafted since nineteen sixty seven.
- 9:46Speaker 1: My mom was born in sixty six, a long time,
- 9:50Speaker 1: very long time. And their very first pick. I'm gonna
- 9:53Speaker 1: let you tell who the first pick was because I
- 9:54Speaker 1: want to glow a little bit. Who they pick up
- 9:56Speaker 1: news Michael Bumpus as he just said, why receiver Dwayne
- 10:01Speaker 1: Eskridge out of Western Michigan. And that was We gotta
- 10:04Speaker 1: give bump credit because we're credits due. He was out
- 10:06Speaker 1: there weeks before, letting everybody know. On seven ten ESPN
- 10:09Speaker 1: that the Seahawks could go after Dwayne es Rigs for
- 10:12Speaker 1: his playmaking ability and everything we saw in him. So
- 10:14Speaker 1: it was cool to see you become a draft guru.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Is that your crew? Now I'm a draft at least
- 10:19Speaker 1: for a year. I got him back it up next year.
- 10:21Speaker 1: But until then, yes, I would say that no bum.
- 10:24Speaker 1: So I love this pick in Eskridge. We were texting
- 10:26Speaker 1: right before, not only was that record out, me and
- 10:28Speaker 1: you were texting and I was saying, hey, you know,
- 10:30Speaker 1: I think we need a you know, a slot type
- 10:32Speaker 1: receiver or cornerback, and you brought up Eskridge. So when
- 10:35Speaker 1: you look at him, what jumps off? What's the first
- 10:37Speaker 1: thing you think about when you see Escorts on the field.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Dude is fast man. He catches the rock and he
- 10:42Speaker 1: can go. He had touchdowns last year of seventy two yards,
- 10:46Speaker 1: seventy six yards in eighty five yards. That don't just
- 10:48Speaker 1: happen on an accident. Now, when I was in college
- 10:50Speaker 1: only scored about ten touchdowns. I got three that were
- 10:53Speaker 1: pump returns, and my pump returns was only eighty two.
- 10:55Speaker 1: It's like he's out there playing special teams on these guys.
- 10:58Speaker 1: He can get the football and go. And I think
- 11:00Speaker 1: that's what they need, especially with this new offense coming
- 11:03Speaker 1: in new Shane Waldron offense. He's gonna ask these guys
- 11:06Speaker 1: to catch team year routes, five year over routes and
- 11:08Speaker 1: turn them up and go. Dude ran a four three
- 11:12Speaker 1: eight four three A. My best time was a four
- 11:14Speaker 1: or four seven. I was really a four or five
- 11:16Speaker 1: type of dude. So a bit jealous, but I think
- 11:19Speaker 1: this is what they need. They need a solidified the
- 11:21Speaker 1: number three spot. David Morris gnage with the Carolina Panthers.
- 11:25Speaker 1: He still got Freddy Swayne, you still got Genal Sewell.
- 11:27Speaker 1: But every year they're gonna bring in guys to compete,
- 11:30Speaker 1: and I think he can do that. He can also
- 11:31Speaker 1: help on special teams. The guy was a gunner. He
- 11:34Speaker 1: returned kicks, He played defense at some points where you
- 11:37Speaker 1: can tackle a guy. I remember playing special teams and
- 11:41Speaker 1: Bruce to Haven asking me to go tackle somebody. I
- 11:44Speaker 1: looked at him, like, bro, I ain't tackled anybody since
- 11:46Speaker 1: two thousand and four. You're gonna ask me to tackle
- 11:49Speaker 1: a grown man in the league. Typically, defensive players are
- 11:52Speaker 1: the best special teams guys because they can tackle them
- 11:54Speaker 1: so it's nice that he kind of has an edge
- 11:57Speaker 1: on these other offensive guys. When it comes to the
- 11:59Speaker 1: special team humans, Oh, no question about it. John Schneider
- 12:02Speaker 1: talked about it. They kind of described him as he's
- 12:05Speaker 1: just a dog. For a staff to go to a
- 12:07Speaker 1: guy and say, hey, you know a guy that's supposed
- 12:09Speaker 1: to be, you know, kind of a track athlete, right,
- 12:11Speaker 1: you know, one hundred meters spinner and two hundred meter sprinterer.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I think shoot, I think it was like a twenty
- 12:15Speaker 1: three something foot long jumper for that guy. For a
- 12:18Speaker 1: guy like that, you know, usually hear the term track
- 12:20Speaker 1: guy and all that. For a staff to go to
- 12:22Speaker 1: a guy and ask him to go play some defense
- 12:25Speaker 1: and you know, go play against Michigan State and you know,
- 12:28Speaker 1: just go compete. You could see him just flying up
- 12:30Speaker 1: and run support, throwing his body around. He's just a competitor.
- 12:33Speaker 1: And the great thing about that is not only right,
- 12:35Speaker 1: see brand is a track guy because you're fast. So
- 12:38Speaker 1: it's really good to see a guy with that kind
- 12:40Speaker 1: of edge. Whogle says, yeah, coach, I'll go play defense
- 12:42Speaker 1: because at the time the NFL scoutside, he'd be more
- 12:45Speaker 1: suited for that. And then watching him run down as
- 12:47Speaker 1: a gunner and smack people with his frame. Love to
- 12:50Speaker 1: see it bump because you know, people be getting on
- 12:52Speaker 1: receivers saying they're not tough, they just want to catch touchdowns,
- 12:54Speaker 1: blah blah blah. So I must make you proud to
- 12:56Speaker 1: see a guy come out there, stick his nose out
- 12:58Speaker 1: there and go smack people. Represent change the narrative when
- 13:01Speaker 1: it comes to receivers, escrits. I believe in you. This
- 13:04Speaker 1: guy broke his clavical and I heard an interview. He
- 13:07Speaker 1: was like, look, that was maybe one of the best
- 13:08Speaker 1: things that happened to me because I was able to
- 13:10Speaker 1: look at the game from a different lens and really
- 13:13Speaker 1: prioritize what he wanted to do. He also was mister
- 13:17Speaker 1: track and field in high school. We talked about that
- 13:19Speaker 1: he's really fast. Now I heard he was a two
- 13:22Speaker 1: way guy, so I had to look up. Okay, who
- 13:24Speaker 1: are some baller two way guys in college? Now, he
- 13:26Speaker 1: didn't do it like consistently, but being he tapped into it.
- 13:30Speaker 1: First name that popped up with Champ Bailey. I didn't
- 13:32Speaker 1: realize Champ Bailey played both ways like that. And then
- 13:34Speaker 1: the next guy who popped up a course it is
- 13:36Speaker 1: Charles Wilson. We're not even gonna put the pressure on
- 13:38Speaker 1: the kid and ask him to live it up to
- 13:40Speaker 1: either of those. But if we're looking for positives, you
- 13:43Speaker 1: just named a bunch when it comes to two way players.
- 13:45Speaker 1: I just named a bunch when it come to two
- 13:47Speaker 1: way players. Let's talk about what he does as well.
- 13:49Speaker 1: We talked about the big playability averages average twenty one
- 13:52Speaker 1: point eight yards per catch last season, which is awesome.
- 13:55Speaker 1: He can stretch the defense from the slot, run after
- 13:58Speaker 1: the catch. That's everything you want from a receiver. I'm
- 14:02Speaker 1: really excited about this young man. Yeah, it's the breakaway
- 14:04Speaker 1: speed that gets me bump, because not only in his
- 14:07Speaker 1: route when he gets the top, when that ball is
- 14:08Speaker 1: in the air, his breakaway speed and something I love
- 14:10Speaker 1: to look at when you're watching film is when a
- 14:12Speaker 1: guy catches the ball right and he looks like he's
- 14:15Speaker 1: just glad he's out for a stroll right, And then
- 14:17Speaker 1: you look at the dbs and they look like they
- 14:19Speaker 1: are given everything that they can, dude, and he's accelerating
- 14:23Speaker 1: and he's in the gap is getting even bigger. So
- 14:25Speaker 1: his breakaway speed is something that just jumps off the
- 14:27Speaker 1: film to me, and I think that's one reason why
- 14:30Speaker 1: Shane Waldron and Pete Carroll on that new offense looked
- 14:33Speaker 1: for a number three receiver who could help with that,
- 14:35Speaker 1: because let's you're talking about, we could line up and
- 14:38Speaker 1: Tyler Lockett might now all of a sudden, become the
- 14:40Speaker 1: slowest guy on the field and eleven personnel with those
- 14:42Speaker 1: three on the field. That's that's tough on a defense man,
- 14:45Speaker 1: tough on a defense. Talking about some of his weaknesses,
- 14:48Speaker 1: people say he ran a very simple route tree and
- 14:51Speaker 1: they're knocking him because of that. You know who else
- 14:53Speaker 1: ran a very simple round tree, mister DK Metcalf And
- 14:57Speaker 1: when we see what he has done for this football too.
- 14:59Speaker 1: So I wouldn't knock man. He was just doing what
- 15:01Speaker 1: his offense was asking him to do. It's not like
- 15:03Speaker 1: he said, coach, I'm only gonna run these routes. No,
- 15:05Speaker 1: he's in the offense. They ask him to do that.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Don't knock him because he's good at what he's doing.
- 15:10Speaker 1: I wouldn't. I wouldn't put too much stock into that.
- 15:13Speaker 1: I think anybody can be coached up. You make it
- 15:15Speaker 1: to the NFL, you can be coached up to run
- 15:17Speaker 1: different routes if you're in the right scheme. They say
- 15:21Speaker 1: hip tightness prevents quick sinking out pretty much, saying he
- 15:25Speaker 1: can't get in and out of his routes. Again, I
- 15:27Speaker 1: heard the same thing about DK. Would he ran the
- 15:29Speaker 1: three cone drill wasn't very impressive. I have no issues
- 15:33Speaker 1: with how DK moves right now. So, yes, they're always
- 15:36Speaker 1: gonna be negative about a guy. You can always nitpick.
- 15:39Speaker 1: There's no perfect football player. But the things that people
- 15:42Speaker 1: are concerned about, I think he can work through. Yeah,
- 15:46Speaker 1: no question about it. I think. I mean that doesn't matter.
- 15:48Speaker 1: If you're the first pick in the draft. You're gonna
- 15:50Speaker 1: have people all the draft punits out there. They're gonna
- 15:53Speaker 1: have a thing of weaknesses. They're gonna say things that
- 15:55Speaker 1: they perceived you not to do well. This is lost
- 15:57Speaker 1: that those are his weaknesses and potentially the last time
- 15:59Speaker 1: he played football a lot of work. Send me put
- 16:01Speaker 1: in a new, brand new system. Nothing about the weaknesses
- 16:04Speaker 1: that we've heard about him something that is alarming, you
- 16:07Speaker 1: know what I mean. It's not something like heat, too
- 16:10Speaker 1: many drops, or not not coachable or locker room at things. Yeah,
- 16:18Speaker 1: so all these things, those are things that you can
- 16:19Speaker 1: work on. And I love to see it. So I'm
- 16:21Speaker 1: I'm I'm stoked about to pick definitely all right. And
- 16:25Speaker 1: in the fourth round, with the one hundred and thirty
- 16:27Speaker 1: seventh overall pick, the Hawks go to defense and then
- 16:31Speaker 1: they picked Tray Brown out of Oklahoma. You being the
- 16:33Speaker 1: defensive guy, what do you see out of this guy
- 16:36Speaker 1: that you like? The thing that jumped off again. So
- 16:39Speaker 1: we're a theme of the first two picks of speed, right,
- 16:41Speaker 1: I love I love his closing speed and now there's
- 16:44Speaker 1: been there are several deep balls where he was in
- 16:46Speaker 1: phase or the receiver had a step or chew on him.
- 16:48Speaker 1: And his ability to close that gap when the balls
- 16:51Speaker 1: in the air, right, perfect technique, right arm over the shoulder,
- 16:54Speaker 1: reaching across, batting the ball down. And just the way
- 16:57Speaker 1: he comes downhill at the football you watch him out
- 17:00Speaker 1: of his breaks, they're incredibly clean. There's no wasted steps.
- 17:03Speaker 1: That was number one thing for me. When you watch
- 17:05Speaker 1: him come downhill, there's no wasted steps. Long on our action.
- 17:08Speaker 1: He's coming downhill and he's physical like he even for
- 17:11Speaker 1: his size, he plays physical. If you're if you're not
- 17:14Speaker 1: going to come with the receiver, he's gonna bully you.
- 17:16Speaker 1: He's good in press, so I think all those things
- 17:18Speaker 1: are stuff that you love to see out of a
- 17:20Speaker 1: defensive back, especially going into this system. The one interesting
- 17:23Speaker 1: thing about him, though, is he doesn't necessarily fit the
- 17:26Speaker 1: bill that people. When people think Seattle Seahawks corners, they
- 17:29Speaker 1: don't think of a five nine guy. They think of
- 17:31Speaker 1: the Shermans, they think of even Shaquille, they think of
- 17:33Speaker 1: the six two, six three guy. But I think he
- 17:36Speaker 1: has all the tools to be great in the NFL.
- 17:38Speaker 1: You look at what teams did against him in the
- 17:40Speaker 1: past game. He plays in the Big twelve, all right.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Not a ton of defense being played in the Big
- 17:44Speaker 1: twelve because the offenses are so good they spread you out,
- 17:47Speaker 1: the hashes are out wider. It's hard to stop elite
- 17:50Speaker 1: receivers in that league. But if you look at him specifically,
- 17:53Speaker 1: according to Pro Football Focus, he had the lowest passer
- 17:56Speaker 1: rating in single coverage in the twenty twenty one class
- 17:59Speaker 1: at twenty six point nine. So I don't care. I'm
- 18:01Speaker 1: not really concerned by his size as to you can
- 18:03Speaker 1: play now. I'm not worried about his size five nine,
- 18:07Speaker 1: one eighty six. He can play inside, he can play outside.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Pie Carol said, look, we drafted him to play outside,
- 18:13Speaker 1: so he's gonna compete with DJ, He's gonna compete with
- 18:15Speaker 1: Trey Flowers and Witherspoon, and I like that. Also, what
- 18:19Speaker 1: I like about it is that the Hawks are not
- 18:23Speaker 1: pigeonhole themselves and saying these are the only type of
- 18:26Speaker 1: guys that we're gonna take at this position. You sign
- 18:28Speaker 1: a Witherspoon during the offseason. He's the traditional guy they're
- 18:32Speaker 1: looking for, right, the six two guy, long arms, lots
- 18:35Speaker 1: of range. Now they're like, look, we're just gonna take
- 18:37Speaker 1: ball players. And I want to tip my head off
- 18:39Speaker 1: to DJ. I'm thinking DJ has something to do with that,
- 18:42Speaker 1: because they found this young man and they inserted him
- 18:45Speaker 1: to this defense and special teams and he's been nothing
- 18:47Speaker 1: but a baller since. Now there's gonna be some competition.
- 18:50Speaker 1: I mentioned Trey Flowers, DJ Reads got Pierre Witherspoon got
- 18:55Speaker 1: randalled there and also Miller. A lot of these guys
- 18:58Speaker 1: aren't expected to make plays or two I guess, play
- 19:02Speaker 1: big roles in this defense, but they're still there and
- 19:05Speaker 1: you have to compete. And we know, no matter what
- 19:07Speaker 1: your name is, no matter where you come from, if
- 19:09Speaker 1: you make plays in this organization, you're gonna get a
- 19:11Speaker 1: chance to see yourself on the field on some day. Oh,
- 19:14Speaker 1: no question about it. And the way you mentioned it,
- 19:16Speaker 1: it's gonna be interesting. We're pretty sat at the safety position,
- 19:18Speaker 1: at least we know from a starting standpoint Jamal Adams,
- 19:20Speaker 1: Quadri Diggs, But now with the departure Chile Griffin and
- 19:25Speaker 1: both corner spots essentially opened up with Quentin Dunbar not returning. Yeah,
- 19:28Speaker 1: the competition is gonna be nice. Man, Brown's gonna jump
- 19:31Speaker 1: right in there. People forget about Trey. People have gotten
- 19:33Speaker 1: on Trey really unfairly. I feel, in my opinion, Trey
- 19:36Speaker 1: Flowers is a better football player than he gets credit for.
- 19:39Speaker 1: DJ Reach stepped into great last year. Pierre Decierre has
- 19:42Speaker 1: been a really good corner over the last couple of years,
- 19:45Speaker 1: since the last time he was here. And Witherspoon, you've
- 19:47Speaker 1: talked about this. He was really good in moments right,
- 19:51Speaker 1: and their scheme was similar to us defensively, so I
- 19:54Speaker 1: think he kind of gets a bad rap it. They're
- 19:55Speaker 1: gonna compete like crazy man, and it's gonna be fun
- 19:57Speaker 1: to see because I think, um, and this is just
- 20:01Speaker 1: my cornerbacks. When you if you bump inside of the nickel,
- 20:03Speaker 1: you still let you have Ugo there, and then you
- 20:04Speaker 1: have Marquis Splayer's coming back sortie. There's a lot of
- 20:08Speaker 1: things that could happen, you know. If Marquis Splayer takes
- 20:10Speaker 1: back over at nickel, does Ugo go back to safety
- 20:12Speaker 1: maybe because we don't have a lot of adaptive safety,
- 20:14Speaker 1: Ryan Nels. So it's it's it's a lot to kind
- 20:17Speaker 1: of sift through. But going back to Trey brown Man,
- 20:19Speaker 1: we're excited about him, and so's GM John Schneider really
- 20:22Speaker 1: excitable Trey excited about his competitiveness. The guys just got
- 20:26Speaker 1: a fire tomb. That's just off the chain. That's what
- 20:29Speaker 1: all the cool kids say. I guess off the chain. Yeah, sorry,
- 20:32Speaker 1: my son would say that, right, So, but uh, four
- 20:35Speaker 1: or five years ago, John, Yeah, okay, off the chain. No,
- 20:39Speaker 1: we're excited about him. I think I think I think
- 20:41Speaker 1: Trey is going to be a good football player and
- 20:43Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to watching him compete early on. Man,
- 20:47Speaker 1: don't you love Pete Carolyn Schneider's relationship. They just seem like, hey,
- 20:51Speaker 1: there buddies having a beer, picking ballers to make their
- 20:55Speaker 1: team better. Man, I just love the relationship that beast
- 20:58Speaker 1: to have. All right, So now in this sixth round,
- 21:00Speaker 1: with the two hundred and eighth overall pick, the Hawks
- 21:03Speaker 1: select Stone forsythe out of Florida. This is a guy
- 21:07Speaker 1: who wasn't supposed to be there. They weren't supposed to
- 21:10Speaker 1: get this dude. And I'm gonna go out and say
- 21:11Speaker 1: that if he wasn't available, they might have traded that
- 21:14Speaker 1: pick and then got a couple more even later. I
- 21:16Speaker 1: don't know. I just saw his name and I saw
- 21:19Speaker 1: his draft rejections, and I look at him and I'm like,
- 21:22Speaker 1: this guy should be are you listen to his interview?
- 21:24Speaker 1: He was surprised that he was there, and now he
- 21:26Speaker 1: has a chip on his shoulder, which I love. The
- 21:29Speaker 1: dude is six eight, three hundred and seven pounds. Forty
- 21:33Speaker 1: games he played in with twenty eight starts. He started
- 21:36Speaker 1: twelve games his senior season. This is a guy. Okay,
- 21:39Speaker 1: what's the not gonna be? Oh he's too tall and
- 21:41Speaker 1: he's not gonna be able to bend at the hips
- 21:43Speaker 1: or whatnot. I don't care about that. I don't need
- 21:45Speaker 1: him to get super low. I just need you to
- 21:46Speaker 1: get low enough to use your range. You got those
- 21:49Speaker 1: dns firing off the edge of the line of scrimmage.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Your job is to make them take the longest route
- 21:54Speaker 1: to the quarterback, and I think with his size, with
- 21:57Speaker 1: his chip on his shoulder, he's gonna be able to
- 21:59Speaker 1: do that. I'm happy that this guy was picked up.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Wasn't expected to be there, Oh, no question about it.
- 22:04Speaker 1: He allowed just two sacks and four hundred and eighty
- 22:06Speaker 1: eight dropbacks of Florida. So I mean it's something where
- 22:09Speaker 1: it's like, well, he's doing something right, and it's it's
- 22:12Speaker 1: crazy because you look through all the draft analysts. Some
- 22:14Speaker 1: people had a second round grade on him for his
- 22:17Speaker 1: size and his footwork in his hand. So it's just
- 22:19Speaker 1: it's shocking that he fell that late. And if you
- 22:21Speaker 1: listen to Pete and John when they talked about it
- 22:23Speaker 1: in their Day three press conference, they were they were
- 22:26Speaker 1: shocked that he fell that far and it was just
- 22:27Speaker 1: a painful weight. As they waited and waited and waited
- 22:31Speaker 1: and eventually traded up. Head coach Pete Carroll talked a
- 22:33Speaker 1: lot about what he thinks from Stone and what his
- 22:35Speaker 1: potential is in this offense. Stone was a guy that
- 22:38Speaker 1: really because of his uniqueness he's really a unique player.
- 22:42Speaker 1: I mean, how many times have I said that two
- 22:44Speaker 1: guys about you know, we're always looking for trades and
- 22:46Speaker 1: and uh, he really brings a great level of potential
- 22:50Speaker 1: in his what he's bring. He's played a lot of football.
- 22:52Speaker 1: He said, over a thousand pass rushes against him in
- 22:55Speaker 1: the SEC. His numbers are really good. Is his stats
- 22:58Speaker 1: are really good from passport section. He can come off
- 23:01Speaker 1: the football. You know, he runs pretty well. He runs,
- 23:03Speaker 1: he runs well for a big guy. So he moves,
- 23:06Speaker 1: he moves all right. We just got to get him
- 23:07Speaker 1: where he's coming off the football the way we want to.
- 23:09Speaker 1: That means he's got front side blocks where he's got
- 23:11Speaker 1: to reach really you know, flashy athletes. And then he
- 23:14Speaker 1: also got to cut off big defensive tackles when the
- 23:16Speaker 1: ball is going away. So he's shown the ability to
- 23:18Speaker 1: do that, so we're not worried about his foot quickness
- 23:20Speaker 1: in that regards. The thing I liked the most about
- 23:23Speaker 1: Stone right here is he's not someone that needs to
- 23:26Speaker 1: come in and start right away. He's not a guy
- 23:28Speaker 1: asked to come in and be your savior. He's a
- 23:30Speaker 1: guy that can learn from one of the best in
- 23:32Speaker 1: the NFL to do it in Dwayne Brown. Yep, Brandon
- 23:34Speaker 1: Shall out the other side, and he can just be
- 23:36Speaker 1: a dept piece. But knowing that those guys not saying
- 23:40Speaker 1: they're not going to be here past twenty twenty one,
- 23:42Speaker 1: but their contracts don't go past that, so you never
- 23:45Speaker 1: know if you could eventually groom someone for the future.
- 23:47Speaker 1: So I can't think of a better situation for a
- 23:49Speaker 1: rookie tackle to come into than to learn under Dwayne Brown.
- 23:53Speaker 1: He's not going to be asked to play early, but
- 23:56Speaker 1: he's probably going to play because we've seen what happens
- 23:59Speaker 1: to this offensive line, especially when you got older guys
- 24:01Speaker 1: out there. I'm not I'm not hoping anything on anybody
- 24:04Speaker 1: on this OFFICEI line on howe everyone's healthy, they make
- 24:06Speaker 1: it through the season. But sometimes guys need brings. You know,
- 24:08Speaker 1: a guy like Dwayne Brown been in the league for
- 24:10Speaker 1: so long, sometimes he just needs a break and it'd
- 24:12Speaker 1: be nice to have a guy that can rolltate in.
- 24:14Speaker 1: So now we mentioned all the things he does on
- 24:16Speaker 1: the field, and he has the pedigree. Dad went to
- 24:18Speaker 1: Kent State, went to UCF, playing in the NFL, NFL Europe,
- 24:21Speaker 1: and the arena when you are raised in a football home,
- 24:26Speaker 1: you have some sort of advantage. And I think that
- 24:28Speaker 1: with his size, of course, with his skill over a
- 24:32Speaker 1: thousand snaps he's had in college over a thousand snaps,
- 24:35Speaker 1: and his experience, I really like this pick. He's not
- 24:38Speaker 1: gonna be asked to get in there early. I'm not
- 24:41Speaker 1: mad at this thing at all. Okay, so now twenty
- 24:44Speaker 1: twenty draft. Going into this draft, I said, look, the
- 24:47Speaker 1: hoss got three picks. I said, they're gonna flip it
- 24:49Speaker 1: into like five, maybe six, who knows, But they didn't.
- 24:53Speaker 1: They stayed with their three, and I think they had
- 24:55Speaker 1: three solid picks. If I had to give them a grade,
- 24:58Speaker 1: I give them a B plus. I think they dressed
- 25:00Speaker 1: the number three receiver spot. I think that they got
- 25:02Speaker 1: an offensive line guy who can help later, doesn't need
- 25:06Speaker 1: to do anything right now. And then you have a
- 25:07Speaker 1: corner guy who can play right now. And we've seen
- 25:10Speaker 1: on the defensive side of the ball, that's kind of
- 25:12Speaker 1: where guys can come in and play right now and
- 25:14Speaker 1: make a huge impact just because it's just raw ability.
- 25:18Speaker 1: I give them a B plus. What do you think
- 25:20Speaker 1: about their draft? I like it a lot, and I
- 25:23Speaker 1: think one of the things that you got to look
- 25:24Speaker 1: at is Josh Snyder likes draft a lot of players, right,
- 25:27Speaker 1: That's kind of what the Seahawks do. They love having
- 25:29Speaker 1: draft picks, love having depth. But something that was telling
- 25:33Speaker 1: to me obviously didn't have a ton of draft capital.
- 25:35Speaker 1: This wasn't like when we traded Frank Clark and we
- 25:37Speaker 1: got another first round and this and that, well we
- 25:39Speaker 1: had we had to get. We lost some of those, right,
- 25:42Speaker 1: Jamal Adams, technically he is a first round pick. I know,
- 25:44Speaker 1: people it's not a direct relations understand that, but that's
- 25:47Speaker 1: the player we got, right. We lost the fifth round
- 25:49Speaker 1: because of Carlos Dunlap and Gabe Jackson. So those are
- 25:52Speaker 1: players that are going to start and play for us
- 25:54Speaker 1: right now. So the fact that they only had three
- 25:56Speaker 1: what I like about is, yeah, they had a couple
- 25:58Speaker 1: of trades, but it seemed like they went and got
- 26:00Speaker 1: the people that they wanted. They got the people that
- 26:03Speaker 1: they wanted the highest, not only highest on their board,
- 26:06Speaker 1: but also fit and need. So like, I love the draft,
- 26:09Speaker 1: and maybe I'm just so in love with the speed
- 26:11Speaker 1: that I saw that we got in this class. I'll
- 26:13Speaker 1: give me nay miney. So I think they came out
- 26:14Speaker 1: and they did what they wanted to do, and they
- 26:16Speaker 1: got the guys that can come out and compete and
- 26:18Speaker 1: contribute right now. And we've learned you gotta trust the
- 26:23Speaker 1: process when it comes to Peteon Genre right, they've had
- 26:25Speaker 1: one hundred and five draft choices. Forty seven of these
- 26:29Speaker 1: guys are still on NFL rosters. Twenty nine of them
- 26:32Speaker 1: remain on the Seattle Seahawk roster. So it's not People
- 26:35Speaker 1: have to realize it's a marathon. Like God, people want
- 26:38Speaker 1: people to come in right now and contribute and be superstars.
- 26:41Speaker 1: That's not how the NFL will works. Sometimes you hit,
- 26:44Speaker 1: Sometimes guys work out that way, but sometimes you don't.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Here a couple of notable draft picks Earl Thomas, Golden Take,
- 26:50Speaker 1: Kim Chancellor, kJ Richard Sherman, Maxwell, Bruce Irbert and Bobby
- 26:55Speaker 1: Wagon to Russell Wilson, guys forget about I don't think
- 26:58Speaker 1: they don't forget about them. But they've had so much success.
- 27:02Speaker 1: It's like people always looking for the negative, like, don't
- 27:04Speaker 1: forget they've had some success when it comes to the draft. Now,
- 27:08Speaker 1: undrafted free agents, they've had some success too, of course.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Dougie Fresh, Doug Balwin got Jared Johnson, Ricardo Lockett, Mike Morgan,
- 27:15Speaker 1: Jermaine curse De, Sean Schatt who's on the coaching staff now,
- 27:18Speaker 1: Thomas Ross, George Fanton who's been here for a while,
- 27:21Speaker 1: Poona is still here. Brian monag I just listed all
- 27:25Speaker 1: about twenty five thirty solid football players now. No, And
- 27:28Speaker 1: that's the thing, because what happens is people recognize the
- 27:31Speaker 1: success Pete and john had in twenty ten, twenty eleven,
- 27:34Speaker 1: twenty twelve, right, so, but everyone goes, oh, what have
- 27:37Speaker 1: you done for me lately? And there's this narrative that
- 27:40Speaker 1: the Seahawks have drafted so poorly the last five years,
- 27:43Speaker 1: and it's just not true. It's not true. And there's
- 27:45Speaker 1: a couple of things. You got to look at. Number one,
- 27:48Speaker 1: just because that person necessarily didn't get a second contract
- 27:51Speaker 1: with the Seahawks, wasn't with his name, But it's not
- 27:53Speaker 1: mean that was a bad pick or a bad class.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Like say what you want about Jermaine Effetti, he was
- 27:57Speaker 1: drafted twenty sixteen, was a starter in his still a
- 28:00Speaker 1: starter and got a contract from Chicago. Jaron Reid was
- 28:03Speaker 1: a startup until last year. Right. Quentin Jefferson has bounced
- 28:05Speaker 1: around the league, had been a starter ever where he's
- 28:07Speaker 1: been jump into twenty seventeen. Ethan Posti currently a starter.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Shaquille Griffin was a startup until last year. And you know,
- 28:14Speaker 1: got some money in Jacksonville, right, David Moore just got
- 28:18Speaker 1: paid in Carolina. Chris Carson are starting running back in
- 28:21Speaker 1: the seventh round. And it's just one of those things
- 28:23Speaker 1: where it's hard to I just feel like the narrative
- 28:26Speaker 1: that things have been so bad, Yeah, Malik McDowell, things
- 28:31Speaker 1: that were out of everyone else's control. No one knew
- 28:33Speaker 1: that something an unfortunate event like that could happen. So
- 28:36Speaker 1: it's hard. It's hard to look at those. And then
- 28:38Speaker 1: you go into the recent draft picks, Okay Rashad Penny,
- 28:41Speaker 1: Rasheem Green, Will dis Lee, Trey Flowers, Michael Dixon, there's
- 28:45Speaker 1: all the guys that are contributing right now, so and
- 28:48Speaker 1: it's it's hard. You really can't assess the draft class
- 28:50Speaker 1: till it's been four or five years. I just think
- 28:53Speaker 1: people want to compare everything to the success in twenty
- 28:56Speaker 1: ten to twenty twelve, and it's just not it's not
- 28:58Speaker 1: accurate because it's not fair. Those are those are Hall
- 29:01Speaker 1: of Fame draft classes, those go down it's the best
- 29:04Speaker 1: of all time. So it's hard to keep comparing stuff
- 29:07Speaker 1: to that when they've actually had some pretty good draft
- 29:10Speaker 1: picks and guys that are still on this roster is
- 29:11Speaker 1: still contributing a lot of guys that's you know, still
- 29:14Speaker 1: the verdict is still out, if you will, but it's
- 29:17Speaker 1: just it's just not fair. Frust Pete and John they
- 29:19Speaker 1: know what they're doing, and their Pettie continues to show
- 29:21Speaker 1: that they know what they're doing. Twenty nineteen. You got
- 29:25Speaker 1: call he Or who really just had his rookie season
- 29:27Speaker 1: this past year. I think he's gonna get better. Mark
- 29:29Speaker 1: Keiths Blair, who was a starter before he got hurt.
- 29:32Speaker 1: We all know about DK Metcalf. Cody barn has been
- 29:35Speaker 1: making noise on special teams all year. He still got
- 29:38Speaker 1: ugo when the mix been berg curving. Travis Homer had
- 29:41Speaker 1: one of the greatest pass pro pickups in all of
- 29:43Speaker 1: twenty twenty one against the Minnesota Vikings on fourth down
- 29:46Speaker 1: to get that ball to DK. So there are more
- 29:49Speaker 1: role players than superstars in the NFL, and everyone's looking
- 29:52Speaker 1: for a superstar. Every team needs superstars, but they're way
- 29:55Speaker 1: more role players than there are superstars now the twenty
- 30:00Speaker 1: any class I'm really feeling yet. Jordan Brooks, who played
- 30:03Speaker 1: Darryl Taylor will see what he does, who was ready
- 30:06Speaker 1: to go, would have played in the playoffs. Damian Lewis,
- 30:08Speaker 1: who's I'm here now, is being moved to left guard.
- 30:11Speaker 1: They gonna have Gabe have the right guard spot. Kobe Parkinson,
- 30:13Speaker 1: who showed some love Freddie Swain made a couple of
- 30:16Speaker 1: players though. I'm okay, man, I like you said, I've
- 30:19Speaker 1: learned to trust the process, especially when it comes to
- 30:22Speaker 1: Schneider and Pete Carroll. So we talked about what the
- 30:27Speaker 1: Hawks did. Now we gotta go around the NFC West.
- 30:30Speaker 1: What's the word in the West and the Seahawks or
- 30:37Speaker 1: the NFC West champs? Again, what's the word in the West?
- 30:42Speaker 1: On Hawk talk? What's the word? I'll tell you what
- 30:46Speaker 1: the word is. Final standings in the NFC West Seattle
- 30:49Speaker 1: Seahawks twelve and four of the Rams ten and six
- 30:51Speaker 1: Cardinals eight eight in the nine or six and ten.
- 30:55Speaker 1: The Hawks, who won the West lost in the first round.
- 30:58Speaker 1: Rams are talking at talcas all. Y'all didn't win a
- 31:00Speaker 1: championship anyway. You didn't go to the Super Bowl, you
- 31:03Speaker 1: didn't go to the conference championship game. We'll take our
- 31:06Speaker 1: T shirts and go hush. Forty nine ers. We talked
- 31:10Speaker 1: about it. Drafted Trade Lands out of North Dakota State.
- 31:14Speaker 1: I like the pick. It's scary because a mobile court,
- 31:18Speaker 1: another mobile quarterback in this division. You already gonna deal
- 31:21Speaker 1: with Kyler Murray. Now you got another guy who's gonna
- 31:23Speaker 1: make things happen. I expect to see this guy early.
- 31:26Speaker 1: Other than that, I don't think they did a lot
- 31:29Speaker 1: in this draft. The big pig maybe Trey Sermon at
- 31:32Speaker 1: Ohio State, the running back. Not too impressed. I saw
- 31:36Speaker 1: somebody I forget where I saw it. They gave the
- 31:38Speaker 1: forty nine. Excuse me, Yes, the forty nine is a
- 31:40Speaker 1: draft grade of a bum. Okay, I'll wrote that B
- 31:45Speaker 1: sounds good to me. What do you think? Yeah, I
- 31:46Speaker 1: mean Trey Lance. Obviously the verdicts is gonna be out
- 31:49Speaker 1: on him. But I think that's a great pick. Aaron
- 31:51Speaker 1: Banks card from Nutter name Trey Sermon. At least with
- 31:54Speaker 1: their first three picks, you're assuming you picked three starters,
- 31:57Speaker 1: right then. They had a lot of work in the
- 31:59Speaker 1: back ken of the draft. I'm not even gonna try
- 32:03Speaker 1: to pronounce the safety from sc I'm not even gonna
- 32:07Speaker 1: go there. But no, I think it's okay. Like I said, um,
- 32:11Speaker 1: Trey Lance and Trey Sermon, it's all about Lance, you know.
- 32:14Speaker 1: At the end of the day, if Lance becomes an
- 32:16Speaker 1: All Pro Pro Bowl quarterback, and no one's gonna really
- 32:19Speaker 1: care about the rest of that draft. It's all about
- 32:21Speaker 1: Trey Lance and his success. So it'll be interesting to
- 32:23Speaker 1: see how quickly he can get on the field or
- 32:25Speaker 1: if Grimmy Garoppolo comes out and plays super well and
- 32:28Speaker 1: then Trey Lance has time to learn underneath Garoppolo. But
- 32:32Speaker 1: Garoppolo is an injury prone so their their draft to
- 32:35Speaker 1: me is it's hard to tell it's okay and nothing
- 32:38Speaker 1: really jumps off. It's all about the quarterback because he's
- 32:42Speaker 1: still got Deebo over there. Scot Brandon, I U Molstard
- 32:45Speaker 1: is still there. Like they have some guys around him,
- 32:47Speaker 1: George Kittle can't forget about George Kittles though. It's more
- 32:50Speaker 1: about how Lance will he beat out Jimmy Garoppolo, and
- 32:54Speaker 1: then if he does, how he inserts into this offense
- 32:57Speaker 1: with the Webbons around him. A lot of weapons are
- 32:59Speaker 1: the Cardinal Now their first pick sixteen overall, Xavin Collins
- 33:03Speaker 1: is a ball. They they've gotten so fast on defense man.
- 33:07Speaker 1: They Isaiah Isaiah simmonsze linebacker they drafted last year. Quick.
- 33:14Speaker 1: Now they go to the second level again with Davin
- 33:16Speaker 1: Collins and then Rondale More out of Purdue. It's funny
- 33:19Speaker 1: that the Cardinals, the Seahawks in the Rams kind of
- 33:23Speaker 1: all drafted the same type of receiver. And you know
- 33:26Speaker 1: that gets me hype nass under six foot receivers making noise.
- 33:31Speaker 1: I set my Sunday, I go, hey, pop stick at
- 33:33Speaker 1: this five nine drafting. I saw a five seven receiver drafted.
- 33:37Speaker 1: So all you all your Chardie's out there. You just
- 33:41Speaker 1: be fast and play hard. You might get an opportunity
- 33:44Speaker 1: in this league. I think the Cardinals did what they're
- 33:46Speaker 1: supposed to do. I mean, they had to go out
- 33:48Speaker 1: there and get a safety. They got a center, the
- 33:50Speaker 1: cornerback take going out of UCF. It's it's really after
- 33:54Speaker 1: those first two picks, you're kind of just filling boys
- 33:57Speaker 1: and putting depth into your roster. Yeah, I know you
- 34:00Speaker 1: you nailed the first two picks. I love those two.
- 34:02Speaker 1: Um A lot of speed on that defense man. They
- 34:05Speaker 1: got Buddha Banker in the back end, Murphy, they got
- 34:08Speaker 1: guys who can play and they're still gonna be definitely
- 34:10Speaker 1: very tough in the NFC West. And then Rondall Moore,
- 34:14Speaker 1: same kind of thing. You look at him, speed jumps
- 34:16Speaker 1: off the jumps off the page and something about speed
- 34:19Speaker 1: kills man. Every It's almost like everyone is trying to
- 34:21Speaker 1: one up the next person. Everyone's like, we need to
- 34:24Speaker 1: have that guy on a roster. Everyone needs to have
- 34:26Speaker 1: And that's just kind of the way the NFL is going.
- 34:27Speaker 1: So I think the Cardinals did a good job. I
- 34:29Speaker 1: like their first two picks a lot blame the Chiefs
- 34:31Speaker 1: and Tyreek Hill for that. They show like, look you
- 34:35Speaker 1: fast out there. You got a quarterback who has an
- 34:37Speaker 1: armed things to get done. Now the Rams, Now, the Rams,
- 34:40Speaker 1: now you were we were talking about this before we
- 34:42Speaker 1: got on. They got two two at will at a Louisville.
- 34:46Speaker 1: The guy is a hundred and sixty five pounds small guy.
- 34:50Speaker 1: And if you listen to the post draft interview with Escris,
- 34:55Speaker 1: Escris kind of slipped up and said, um, the Rams, no,
- 34:58Speaker 1: the Cardinals up the kind of at his words all
- 35:01Speaker 1: mixed up. So we're thinking that the Rams were probably
- 35:03Speaker 1: gonna take a peek or try to drive escrats. If
- 35:06Speaker 1: the Seahawks did it, I think they were all thinking
- 35:09Speaker 1: the same thing. We need this type of receiver, and
- 35:11Speaker 1: they got to do at well. Smaller guy, fastest. Heck,
- 35:14Speaker 1: he makes the tough catches. Um not really impressed with
- 35:19Speaker 1: his route running or whatnot, but the duds blazing. And
- 35:23Speaker 1: you get into this Rams offense, I would assume it
- 35:26Speaker 1: would resemble a Shane Waldron's offense. I don't think they're
- 35:28Speaker 1: just gonna change the playbook. We're gonna see him in
- 35:30Speaker 1: shallows and crossing routes and five to teen yard routes
- 35:34Speaker 1: and allow him to really get moving. I think the
- 35:37Speaker 1: Rams they're okay. It's more about helping out Stafford, and
- 35:41Speaker 1: I think they have enough there already. And then you
- 35:44Speaker 1: add two to to the mix, more weapons for this
- 35:46Speaker 1: guy to play with it. Yeah. No, I mean they're
- 35:48Speaker 1: gonna be a tough They're gonna be tough game as
- 35:50Speaker 1: they always are. Then play the Seahawks. But if you
- 35:52Speaker 1: look at whatever they already have on offense, Cooper Cup,
- 35:54Speaker 1: Robert Woods. So you add another fast guy, I mean
- 35:57Speaker 1: they're just they're so difficult. The nice thing is the
- 36:00Speaker 1: Seahawks were able to get Jerald Everett help that a
- 36:02Speaker 1: little bit on our offense. But No Two too. I
- 36:05Speaker 1: think I think both teams have those guys on their
- 36:08Speaker 1: board because they were looking for that type of playmaker
- 36:10Speaker 1: or that type of speed and the capability. And with
- 36:13Speaker 1: a Sean McVay, he's gonna find ways, whether it's when
- 36:15Speaker 1: they utilize the fly sweep or the different kind of
- 36:18Speaker 1: option routes. So they got going over there, so I
- 36:19Speaker 1: think I think he's gonna make plays. I think you
- 36:22Speaker 1: look the rest of the rest of the Rams draft,
- 36:25Speaker 1: it's all about It's all about depth. Because honestly, when
- 36:28Speaker 1: you look at just not even the players necessarily, but
- 36:31Speaker 1: the sheer amount of picks that looks like a Seahawks
- 36:33Speaker 1: draft when you see all those picks, and they were
- 36:37Speaker 1: trading a bunch and they went for they went for quantity, right,
- 36:40Speaker 1: because when you go through that draft, if you hit
- 36:43Speaker 1: on four of those guys, right, I mean, not all
- 36:44Speaker 1: those guys are gonna make the team, especially when you
- 36:46Speaker 1: have as many veterans as the Rams do. But they
- 36:48Speaker 1: went for they went for quantity, and they got a
- 36:50Speaker 1: lot of guys, and it'll be interesting to see how
- 36:52Speaker 1: that shapes up. But I think they did what they
- 36:54Speaker 1: wanted to do. I think Sean McVay was Stafford. They
- 36:57Speaker 1: got a year or they're They're still trying to win
- 36:59Speaker 1: right now, and there's still gonna be a tough contest
- 37:01Speaker 1: for the Seahawks and the Cardinals, as every battle is
- 37:04Speaker 1: in the MCST. So I think the Rams did a
- 37:06Speaker 1: good job in sense of just helping get depth on
- 37:08Speaker 1: their roster. All about that depth. Now, my first impression
- 37:14Speaker 1: of the NFC West after the draft is that there's
- 37:18Speaker 1: no better division in this league. We already knew that,
- 37:22Speaker 1: and now there's no other division in this league with
- 37:25Speaker 1: the quarterback talent that's in this division, because now we're
- 37:28Speaker 1: talking about Colin Murray, Matthew Stafford. Jimmy Garoppolo is still
- 37:31Speaker 1: a good quarterback. He's not game changer. It's not gonna
- 37:35Speaker 1: overwhelm me with his talent, but he's been to a
- 37:37Speaker 1: Super Bowl. He can get it done. And then you
- 37:39Speaker 1: add Trey Lance that makes and of course Russell Wilson.
- 37:42Speaker 1: This division just got that much tougher, and it's almost
- 37:45Speaker 1: like they're all kind of trying to be the same
- 37:49Speaker 1: type when it comes to office. Everyone's trying to get faster,
- 37:52Speaker 1: everyone's trying to get explosive. That's just the name of
- 37:55Speaker 1: the game these days. That's why you see these smaller
- 37:57Speaker 1: receivers being drafted. Yeah, and if you look at every offense,
- 38:00Speaker 1: every offense has explosive, fast, wide receivers that'll run by you.
- 38:04Speaker 1: Whether it's the Cardinals, the Seahawks, and the Rams throwing
- 38:07Speaker 1: some of the forty nine ers, it's gonna be. Points
- 38:10Speaker 1: are gonna be scored in this league. That's that's for sure,
- 38:12Speaker 1: and it's gonna be it's gonna be a dog fight.
- 38:14Speaker 1: And while it's all about it's the depth of the
- 38:18Speaker 1: NFCUS and it's impressive because every single team, weekend and
- 38:21Speaker 1: week out, is going to compete. If the Niners are healthy,
- 38:23Speaker 1: they're a completely different team in twenty twenty one than
- 38:25Speaker 1: they were in twenty twenty. So again, the Seahawks have
- 38:28Speaker 1: their work cut out for him. But it's fun to
- 38:29Speaker 1: see get through the draft. It's a really fun time
- 38:32Speaker 1: of this year and it'll be interesting to see these
- 38:34Speaker 1: guys get out to mini camp. I know things are
- 38:36Speaker 1: a little different right now this year where some teams
- 38:38Speaker 1: doing in person workouts, some teams doing virtual So it'll
- 38:41Speaker 1: be interesting to see how these rookies taking another year
- 38:45Speaker 1: of virtual learning and see, like from a quarterback standpoint,
- 38:48Speaker 1: are you're gonna be able to ingest that in brand
- 38:50Speaker 1: new offense or brand new coaches and stuff. So it's
- 38:53Speaker 1: gonna be interesting offseason. I can't wait till we get
- 38:55Speaker 1: to the point where we have mandatory mini camps and
- 38:57Speaker 1: stuff and hopefully we can be out there watching them.
- 38:59Speaker 1: But it's gonna be funnier about should be a good one.
- 39:03Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to it. Let them know where that
- 39:06Speaker 1: can find us. Now you can find us everywhere you
- 39:09Speaker 1: get your podcasts, Seahawks dot Com, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Stitcher.
- 39:15Speaker 1: We gotta do this again, man, it's been too long,
- 39:17Speaker 1: been too long. The draft us over. We would be
- 39:20Speaker 1: getting ready for all these mini cans, but things have changed.
- 39:23Speaker 1: The rookies real report and we've got to sit here
- 39:25Speaker 1: and wait and see if the Hawks make any of
- 39:27Speaker 1: the moves. Something tells me they are going to do that.
- 39:30Speaker 1: It has been real. That's Hawk Talk Draft Recap Edition.
- 39:34Speaker 1: I'm your host, Michael Bombas Alive with Mine Guy and
- 39:36Speaker 1: ask Toby, it's been real. We will talk to you
- 39:39Speaker 1: guys soon.
