- 0:08Speaker 1: Well, hey, Angel fans, Welcome back to Halo territory. I
- 0:11Speaker 1: am Mike di Giovanna, former Early Times Baseball writer and
- 0:14Speaker 1: host of the show, Joined today by Mark Trumbo, our
- 0:18Speaker 1: co host and former Angel slugger, and welcome back Sam
- 0:21Speaker 1: Blum of The Athletic.
- 0:23Speaker 2: How you guys doing today? Good?
- 0:27Speaker 3: Thanks Deech.
- 0:27Speaker 2: How are you doing fine? Doing fine?
- 0:30Speaker 1: How's everybody's handmade bones doing today? Everybody okay? Handmade check?
- 0:36Speaker 4: Uh, so far so good. I might head out and
- 0:40Speaker 4: take a few swings just to see if I can
- 0:42Speaker 4: join the club or not. But what a freak injury.
- 0:46Speaker 4: Three superstars already down. That's the odd injury at this
- 0:52Speaker 4: time of the year.
- 0:53Speaker 2: And that.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Do you think I can miss the next six weeks?
- 0:57Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Good luck with that, Sam's Exclusive club, Mark two, we're
- 1:01Speaker 1: talking about Francisco Lindor, Cormyn Carroll Jackson. Holiday all down
- 1:06Speaker 1: with handmade injuries?
- 1:07Speaker 2: Mark?
- 1:08Speaker 1: Do you ever injure a handmaid during your playing days?
- 1:12Speaker 1: How tough an injury is that?
- 1:15Speaker 4: Fortunately No, I never had a handmaid injury, but I
- 1:19Speaker 4: know plenty that have experienced it. It's one of those
- 1:23Speaker 4: things that sneaks up on you. I think it's not
- 1:26Speaker 4: something that really progresses. I think it's just kind of
- 1:29Speaker 4: usually on a check swing or something kind of out
- 1:32Speaker 4: of the ordinary, and next thing, you know, the guys
- 1:35Speaker 4: basically you know a great deal of pain and it's
- 1:39Speaker 4: usually pretty easy to identify what's going on too. So
- 1:42Speaker 4: for under normal circumstances, the recovery is fairly straightforward. Six
- 1:47Speaker 4: to eight weeks, maybe six if you're lucky, maybe a
- 1:51Speaker 4: little longer if you're not. But no, I'm okay here
- 1:56Speaker 4: so far.
- 1:59Speaker 3: If you're if you're an Angel sleeperstar centerfielder.
- 2:02Speaker 2: So sure.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Mike trut did have a little trouble with that injury
- 2:05Speaker 1: a few years ago. So Sam's joining us from Arizona
- 2:09Speaker 1: out at spring training. Pitchers and catchers reported this week, Sam,
- 2:13Speaker 1: I understand Perrymanesian spoke with reporters on Wednesday.
- 2:17Speaker 2: What can you tell us about that? Anything enlightening?
- 2:21Speaker 3: You know, there weren't any like patented back and forth
- 2:24Speaker 3: as we you know, have grown accustomed to. But you know,
- 2:28Speaker 3: I mean listen, I think anytime he talks, I kind
- 2:32Speaker 3: of start to assume that we won't get much information,
- 2:34Speaker 3: and pretty similar today, you know, really nothing. I think
- 2:41Speaker 3: one of the things that I find interesting about about
- 2:44Speaker 3: you know, what came out of today's Robert Stevenson said
- 2:46Speaker 3: he was dealing with thoracic outlet syndrome type symptoms, although
- 2:50Speaker 3: he's not really explored having that surgery, which would probably
- 2:53Speaker 3: sideline him. I don't know. I think maybe the whole
- 2:56Speaker 3: season if that were to, you know, be be an issue.
- 3:00Speaker 3: But to me, it's like, this guy is barely pitched
- 3:03Speaker 3: in two years. You know, it's hard to know exactly
- 3:07Speaker 3: if some of the other lingering injuries that he's had
- 3:10Speaker 3: are contributors to or connected to the thoracic outlet symptoms.
- 3:15Speaker 3: I mean, so really, I mean, they spend thirty three
- 3:17Speaker 3: million dollars on Robert Stevenson, and that's a very very
- 3:21Speaker 3: very expensive reliever arm. And you know, you only really
- 3:25Speaker 3: invest that type of money and if you hope it
- 3:28Speaker 3: and you would anticipate that reliever is going to be
- 3:31Speaker 3: a kind of a stalwart for you guys. So I mean,
- 3:34Speaker 3: this could end up being a pretty disastrous contract. Now
- 3:36Speaker 3: they have a clause that will enable them to get
- 3:38Speaker 3: a fourth year at a very cheap price because he's
- 3:40Speaker 3: had some elbow injuries but or shoulder injuries. But it's
- 3:43Speaker 3: it's still I just this is turning into a pretty
- 3:47Speaker 3: disastrous deal for the team. And I know he's upset
- 3:50Speaker 3: about it. I think everyone's upset about it, but it
- 3:52Speaker 3: doesn't kind of it doesn't really negate that fact. And
- 3:55Speaker 3: you also combine that with Ben Joyce kind of vaguely,
- 3:58Speaker 3: you know he's throwing, so you think voice is in
- 4:00Speaker 3: a better spot, but just we don't really know with him.
- 4:03Speaker 3: I mean, he's not stayed on the field his whole career.
- 4:06Speaker 3: You know, same thing with guys like Alec Mino, Grayson Rodriguez.
- 4:09Speaker 3: There's a lot of guys that kind of have to
- 4:11Speaker 3: show that they can be healthy even just through spring training.
- 4:13Speaker 3: And I don't I don't you know, know where that
- 4:16Speaker 3: leads this team, but those are really important pitches to
- 4:18Speaker 3: them having given a chance of success this year.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I have to say, and I've heard baseball for
- 4:24Speaker 1: so long, I'm so conditioned to always expect the worst
- 4:27Speaker 1: when it comes to injuries. You start hearing thoracic you know,
- 4:31Speaker 1: thoracic syndrome, nerve issues, and these are some of the
- 4:34Speaker 1: problems that hindered Stevenson in the past. It just doesn't
- 4:38Speaker 1: seem like a really good way to start the spring.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Mark what you know of those injuries. These aren't things
- 4:45Speaker 1: you pitched through normally, are.
- 4:46Speaker 4: They They're not. Thorascic outlet is something that is not
- 4:54Speaker 4: what fans want to hear. It seems to be something
- 4:57Speaker 4: that lingers. You have nerve pain. It's usually an impingement
- 5:02Speaker 4: on the collarbone area, but it affects the throwing hands.
- 5:05Speaker 4: You'll get numbness, tingling, loss of sensation. Some guys have
- 5:10Speaker 4: some dead arm type stuff, and it's very strange. I
- 5:15Speaker 4: mean a lot of these injuries Santander, it looks like
- 5:17Speaker 4: he's going to miss the whole year too. Unrelated, but
- 5:19Speaker 4: coming into camp, maybe this is just the time you
- 5:22Speaker 4: do announce some of these things. But with Stevenson, I
- 5:25Speaker 4: believe Suzuki may have mentioned he's the favorite to be
- 5:29Speaker 4: the closer tentatively, but if he is a week behind,
- 5:33Speaker 4: which I'd say that is conservative or optimistic, is what
- 5:37Speaker 4: I guess I'm getting at. I don't believe it until
- 5:41Speaker 4: I see it is what in plain English. But that's
- 5:44Speaker 4: too bad. I think that this is the year that
- 5:47Speaker 4: most including him, really hoping for big things go out
- 5:50Speaker 4: there and earn the contract. And if you're going to
- 5:54Speaker 4: miss more time, it starts to look like the arm
- 5:57Speaker 4: is maybe pretty compromised at this point, So how much
- 6:02Speaker 4: durability is left for him? Wishing him the best, But
- 6:07Speaker 4: sometimes it's one of those things that just you can't
- 6:09Speaker 4: get ahead.
- 6:10Speaker 3: Of it, you know, Like I appreciate him being honest
- 6:14Speaker 3: about it, because that's just not the kind of information
- 6:16Speaker 3: that we would get offer in any other context. I mean,
- 6:18Speaker 3: he he gave that up. And so, I mean, I
- 6:22Speaker 3: just I wonder sometimes you know what what everybody in
- 6:25Speaker 3: camps will be dealing with, and it's it seems like
- 6:30Speaker 3: there's these are the kind of things we only learn
- 6:32Speaker 3: once it becomes absolutely necessary for someone or the team
- 6:36Speaker 3: to express it. But you know, so, I mean, what
- 6:39Speaker 3: we get out of out of Perry today, I just
- 6:43Speaker 3: it's just more of a whole lot of nothing. I mean,
- 6:44Speaker 3: you know, they're excited. He went through the whole rotation
- 6:47Speaker 3: and talked about how excited he is about each arm
- 6:49Speaker 3: and you know, I mean, you could talk yourself into it,
- 6:51Speaker 3: I guess if you want. But I I just have
- 6:54Speaker 3: this significant skepticism about the quality of this team right
- 6:58Speaker 3: now and their ability to compete at a high level it.
- 7:04Speaker 3: They just didn't do enough in the spring. And I
- 7:07Speaker 3: mean when you get to Perry discussing it, it's it's like, okay, uh,
- 7:11Speaker 3: you know. One of the things I asked him is
- 7:12Speaker 3: like why they've DFA had four guys and they kept
- 7:14Speaker 3: Anthony Rendon on the roster right, Like you know what,
- 7:17Speaker 3: I'm sure essentially I think it comes down to some
- 7:19Speaker 3: sort of deal that was made with the with with
- 7:22Speaker 3: Rendon essentially, like or with Boris. But it just like
- 7:27Speaker 3: it just adds to the whole Like and he won't
- 7:29Speaker 3: say what why they're why that? What what's happening there?
- 7:31Speaker 3: Like why are they defying four players that they've claimed
- 7:34Speaker 3: with that while keeping somebody on the team who's not
- 7:36Speaker 3: going to be on the roster this year no matter
- 7:38Speaker 3: what circumstance. It's just like kind of adds to the
- 7:40Speaker 3: whole chaotic mess, to this whole thing is And you know,
- 7:45Speaker 3: I mean there's so many other things. I mean, we
- 7:47Speaker 3: don't they don't even know how we're going to watch
- 7:48Speaker 3: the games this year, and they don't have a TV network.
- 7:50Speaker 3: I mean when the season starts in six weeks. I mean,
- 7:53Speaker 3: these are just things that need to get figured out now.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Yeah, we're going to talk about these storylines of Spring
- 7:59Speaker 1: and we were expecting Robert Stevenson to be one.
- 8:02Speaker 2: So soon.

- 9:11Speaker 1: All right, let's get back to some of the storylines
- 9:13Speaker 1: of Spring Training on Halo Territory, Mark, what do you
- 9:17Speaker 1: think some of the big storylines are for you coming
- 9:20Speaker 1: into camp.
- 9:22Speaker 4: I think it's going to be hearing a little bit
- 9:27Speaker 4: more about the communication that Kurt Suzuki has with Mike Trout.
- 9:36Speaker 4: It seems like a little bit odd to me, but
- 9:38Speaker 4: I'm sure that there's reasons behind it. You wouldn't have
- 9:41Speaker 4: a conversation over the winter. You'd want to wait until
- 9:45Speaker 4: you have ninety players there and trying to manage all
- 9:49Speaker 4: of that to have. And I think, however, many years ago,
- 9:54Speaker 4: Joe Madden had a similar type thing could be wrong,
- 9:58Speaker 4: but seemed like it was a bit awkward, and eventually
- 10:02Speaker 4: I think Mike ended up either he moved or he didn't,
- 10:06Speaker 4: but it seemed a little bit, you know, awkward, And
- 10:10Speaker 4: so I don't know if that's what's going to happen
- 10:12Speaker 4: this year or it's just going to be simply Kurt
- 10:14Speaker 4: dictating this is what you're going to do. My assumption
- 10:18Speaker 4: is that there's not going to be a lot of
- 10:20Speaker 4: outfield play. I could be wrong, Mike. You know, there
- 10:24Speaker 4: is a point at times where guys are more productive
- 10:27Speaker 4: with the bat when they're playing the field, and he
- 10:30Speaker 4: might make that argument. I haven't asked him. I don't
- 10:35Speaker 4: think it'd be appropriate to, but it could be a thing.
- 10:38Speaker 4: I know that at times my numbers were far better
- 10:41Speaker 4: playing the field, even though you know the opinions were
- 10:46Speaker 4: mixed at best on how that rated. But could have
- 10:49Speaker 4: asked Keith what his thoughts were, but I'm pretty sure
- 10:52Speaker 4: I know. So I'd like to see that if it's
- 10:56Speaker 4: not Trout playing center, who is it going to be.
- 10:59Speaker 4: Adele is listed again and we saw last year, in
- 11:04Speaker 4: my opinion, is a much better right fielder than center.
- 11:07Speaker 4: Josh Low doesn't seem like a great fit there. We
- 11:09Speaker 4: got Tiodosio and Jose Siri, so that is a centerfield
- 11:13Speaker 4: is a somewhat of an open competition. I know Kurt
- 11:16Speaker 4: emphasized guys are going to have to earn. It seem
- 11:20Speaker 4: to be referencing maybe Christian Moore as well. I know
- 11:23Speaker 4: on maybe the last show or whatever. I said, you know,
- 11:26Speaker 4: what's or was the question to answer what stat line
- 11:28Speaker 4: is gonna get him a job? And I said staying
- 11:31Speaker 4: healthy essentially, I don't know two twenty two fifty. But
- 11:36Speaker 4: maybe there's a thought that he needs more seasoning. I
- 11:39Speaker 4: don't think that's the case. He does seem like the
- 11:41Speaker 4: best option over some of the other guys. Some of
- 11:45Speaker 4: the bench players too pretty light with the bat, and
- 11:51Speaker 4: I don't know. Meckler is a guy that hasn't been
- 11:55Speaker 4: covered much, but he's on base capabilities in the minor
- 11:58Speaker 4: leagues are hard to ignore. He may not be viewed
- 12:01Speaker 4: as a big piece, but I maybe a stretch.
- 12:05Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 12:05Speaker 4: I see a little Stephen Kwan when I see him,
- 12:08Speaker 4: and may not be the worst thing for a team
- 12:10Speaker 4: that strikes out a lot.
- 12:12Speaker 3: That's well, that's what I'm curious about. It is like,
- 12:14Speaker 3: what's going to be the approach of this team because this,
- 12:16Speaker 3: you know, and especially you bring up a guy like
- 12:18Speaker 3: Christian Moore, who just was you know, I know he's
- 12:20Speaker 3: got that talent in him, but I think what you
- 12:22Speaker 3: saw last season was a poor approach to someone that was,
- 12:25Speaker 3: you know, swing for the fences and it was it
- 12:28Speaker 3: was really like, you don't want a three true outcomes
- 12:31Speaker 3: starting second basement under any circumstances, probably, but especially not
- 12:34Speaker 3: one who's like he just took the number eight pick
- 12:37Speaker 3: a week a year ago, so uh, you know, his
- 12:40Speaker 3: game was was so limited to home run strike ats
- 12:43Speaker 3: and he walked a little bit too, So that was
- 12:45Speaker 3: you know, it just wasn't it that that wasn't good
- 12:48Speaker 3: enough where he was last year. I think to be
- 12:51Speaker 3: in everyday, you know, starting in fielder in the major leagues,
- 12:54Speaker 3: I think he'd probably agree with that. But you know,
- 12:57Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, there's there's some interesting competitions, and I
- 13:01Speaker 3: mean I like, I agree with you, like maybe way
- 13:03Speaker 3: Mechler is interesting, but I also am kind of the
- 13:05Speaker 3: belief of, like, you know, we're talking about some just
- 13:09Speaker 3: not great options, and there's no disrespect to these players.
- 13:11Speaker 3: It's just like, you know, you want you want some
- 13:13Speaker 3: some guys. We've got some you know, proven abilities out there,
- 13:16Speaker 3: and you know, even if that's what your your options
- 13:19Speaker 3: are in center field, then you're putting yourself behind the
- 13:21Speaker 3: eight ball with Hora Claire. I mean, this is a
- 13:23Speaker 3: guy you're paying a lot of money to and if
- 13:25Speaker 3: he's if if if you know, Joe Dell's not starting
- 13:28Speaker 3: in center field, then essentially what that means is one
- 13:32Speaker 3: of Mike Trout or Hora Solaires to play right field
- 13:38Speaker 3: and you know, or or has to play or has
- 13:42Speaker 3: to play the field. I mean, you know, like Horry
- 13:44Speaker 3: Solaire playing the field regularly seems like something that might
- 13:46Speaker 3: have to happen, and ultimately that's a very bad thing
- 13:49Speaker 3: for him and for the team. And just that the
- 13:53Speaker 3: competitions are interesting, but it's also you know, I'm not
- 13:56Speaker 3: sure what the best case scenario in any of those competitions.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Kind of too, I think centerfield is going to be
- 14:02Speaker 1: a huge storyline, uh this spring. I'm gonna piggyback on
- 14:06Speaker 1: what Mark was saying. I've known Mike Trout since he
- 14:10Speaker 1: was a nineteen year old in his first spring training
- 14:12Speaker 1: with that Mickey Mantle crew cut, and he just he
- 14:16Speaker 1: doesn't like Dhing and most guys who play the field
- 14:19Speaker 1: don't like Dhing And I think he's more comfortable when
- 14:22Speaker 1: he's playing the field now health wise to me, And
- 14:27Speaker 1: I'm going to go out on a limb here, if
- 14:29Speaker 1: Mike Trout is healthy enough to maybe play fifty percent
- 14:33Speaker 1: of his games on defense. Where are you gonna put him?
- 14:37Speaker 1: I think you're better off with him in center field
- 14:40Speaker 1: than Joe Adele in right field. Listen, Joe Adell was
- 14:43Speaker 1: a Gold Glove finalist in right field. What's twenty twenty
- 14:47Speaker 1: four right sim And Mike Trout is a natural center fielder.
- 14:51Speaker 1: So why would you put a Dell in center, a
- 14:53Speaker 1: position where he was ranked the worst defensively by Fangrass
- 14:58Speaker 1: last year among centerfield with eight hundred innings or more,
- 15:02Speaker 1: and take him away from a position that he's good at.
- 15:05Speaker 1: It's like the hippocratic oath approach. Do the least amount
- 15:09Speaker 1: of harm. You know, Mike Trout wasn't good enough and
- 15:12Speaker 1: right to me to warrant starting in right field over
- 15:15Speaker 1: Jo Adell. So you know, if Josh Low doesn't work
- 15:19Speaker 1: out in center, I just put Mike back in center.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Hopefully.
- 15:23Speaker 1: I just think he's due for a healthy year. Maybe
- 15:25Speaker 1: I'm really being optimistic.
- 15:27Speaker 3: That is an optimistic approach.
- 15:29Speaker 1: I know, I know I'm hoping for the guy. I'm
- 15:33Speaker 1: hoping for the guy. I'm not ashamed to admit I'm
- 15:35Speaker 1: hoping Mike turns it around. But if he's healthy enough
- 15:37Speaker 1: to play defense, I would put him in center. That way,
- 15:40Speaker 1: you move Adele to right, he keeps Solaire on the
- 15:42Speaker 1: bench where he belongs. Josh Low maybe not the best
- 15:47Speaker 1: left fielder in the game, but you know he's a
- 15:50Speaker 1: corner guy.
- 15:51Speaker 2: He can adjust. To me, It's not going to be an.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Outfield filled with gold gloves, but it's probably the least
- 15:59Speaker 1: worst defense about field that you can put out there.
- 16:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I would I agree with you.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Go ahead, Mark No.
- 16:10Speaker 4: I Just as far as the difficulty, I think there's
- 16:14Speaker 4: this thought that center field is far more demanding, and
- 16:17Speaker 4: it can be based on who's around you. I know,
- 16:21Speaker 4: years ago, I think Tory Hunter was having to cover
- 16:24Speaker 4: a lot of range. This is many years ago, but
- 16:27Speaker 4: Peter Borges came up at that point because leave Wan
- 16:30Speaker 4: to Bray. You was on one side and maybe excuse me,
- 16:33Speaker 4: one Rivera on one side, Bobby A Bray you on
- 16:36Speaker 4: the other, and that left Tory with three quarters of
- 16:40Speaker 4: the outfield at times to try and cover. So I
- 16:43Speaker 4: think in this case you have Adele who can You know,
- 16:48Speaker 4: it's not the fastest, but he can cover a lot
- 16:50Speaker 4: of ground, especially if he's playing the gaps, and Low
- 16:52Speaker 4: can do the same, and it's just a matter of
- 16:56Speaker 4: workload for Trout half the games. Sounds great, but that's
- 17:01Speaker 4: kind of choppy. You know, the lineup is going to
- 17:04Speaker 4: be changing a fair amount, and then you know who
- 17:07Speaker 4: is going to play behind him. The options are, you know,
- 17:12Speaker 4: maybe excellent defense, Tiudosio, very light with the bat, but
- 17:15Speaker 4: you know, I don't know, maybe he made some adjustments
- 17:17Speaker 4: series strikes out a ton, but excellent defense and fast runner,
- 17:22Speaker 4: so you gotta get on base to use that speed.
- 17:26Speaker 4: And I believe if we if we kind of jump
- 17:29Speaker 4: into that, some fan grafts as Selaires started in a
- 17:31Speaker 4: left field. So at least in the projections, and there's
- 17:37Speaker 4: some of these questions are going to need to be answered.
- 17:39Speaker 4: I assume the Angels have a plan already. They haven't
- 17:42Speaker 4: shared it, but I wouldn't want to be caught just
- 17:46Speaker 4: guessing at this point if five were them.
- 17:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not as confident in their in their pre planning.
- 17:54Speaker 3: I mean, it just just the way the way it goes.
- 17:59Speaker 3: I mean, I listen, they always say, like I think
- 18:01Speaker 3: you you alluded to Joe Madden's kind of his issue
- 18:05Speaker 3: twenty twenty two spring when he kind of announced that
- 18:07Speaker 3: Trout might be moving off of center before ever talking
- 18:10Speaker 3: to Mike, and so now basically it's become an annual
- 18:13Speaker 3: tradition of, well, we'll get our Mike Trout questions answered
- 18:16Speaker 3: when Mike Trout arrives in camp, Like they won't say
- 18:18Speaker 3: anything about him until he's there, until they talk to him.
- 18:20Speaker 3: And you know, it's I don't know how much Kurt
- 18:24Speaker 3: did or did not talk to Mike over the offseason.
- 18:26Speaker 3: You know, I don't want to read into it too much.
- 18:29Speaker 3: There aren't too many position players camp to begin the spring,
- 18:32Speaker 3: I don't, you know, I mean, I don't know if
- 18:33Speaker 3: that that's a thing or not, if that matters or not,
- 18:35Speaker 3: or if it's worth reading into. I mean, there's a
- 18:38Speaker 3: couple I saw, like Christian Moore, you know, if he's
- 18:41Speaker 3: here early. I mean, there's certainly, certainly some guys, but
- 18:46Speaker 3: and you know, like Nelson Roda and some of them,
- 18:48Speaker 3: maybe the Nons guys, but you know, some of the big,
- 18:51Speaker 3: big guys haven't showed up yet. So I'll be curious
- 18:52Speaker 3: when they get here kind of you know, what's what's
- 18:55Speaker 3: been the level of communication? You know, where do things
- 18:57Speaker 3: stand with all these guys? You know, I mean, I mean,
- 19:02Speaker 3: I don't know, I look at the team last year
- 19:03Speaker 3: they went they won seventy two games, but I think
- 19:05Speaker 3: in a lot of ways they were probably better than
- 19:07Speaker 3: their record. I mean, they won a ton of one
- 19:09Speaker 3: run games relative to their actual record, and they stayed
- 19:13Speaker 3: healthy in the pitching side for the most part until
- 19:15Speaker 3: the very end of the season. So you know, and
- 19:18Speaker 3: right now their depth is worse. I mean, their bullpen
- 19:20Speaker 3: is worse, their rotation is worse, their lineup is worse.
- 19:23Speaker 3: I mean, so what, you know, we're getting to a
- 19:25Speaker 3: point where it's like, you know, we can talk about
- 19:28Speaker 3: all these competitions, you can talk about all the you know,
- 19:30Speaker 3: the ins and outs of where players might be, but
- 19:32Speaker 3: it doesn't really matter if you're probably looking at a
- 19:34Speaker 3: team that might lose one hundred games. I mean, it's
- 19:36Speaker 3: it's it's I think that's kind of where things are
- 19:38Speaker 3: with with where the fan base looks at this team,
- 19:41Speaker 3: certainly how I look at them. You know, it's just
- 19:43Speaker 3: like at this point, get a collection of twenty six guys,
- 19:46Speaker 3: throw them out there and prove to us that they're
- 19:49Speaker 3: even worth really assessing on this level, because you know,
- 19:53Speaker 3: I mean, like today asked Kurtzuzuki, be like well, how
- 19:55Speaker 3: do you measure success? Right, ask them, how do you
- 19:58Speaker 3: measure success at? How much are wins in loss is
- 20:00Speaker 3: going to play a role in that in that measurement?
- 20:03Speaker 3: And and you know, his answer kind of multiple times was, well,
- 20:06Speaker 3: wins and losses are kind of out of your control.
- 20:08Speaker 3: And I think on a you know, on a certain level,
- 20:10Speaker 3: that's true. Right, like you are, there are certain games
- 20:12Speaker 3: where you might be just the better team and you
- 20:14Speaker 3: will still lose. And there might be certain games that
- 20:17Speaker 3: you are the worst team and you will win. Obviously
- 20:19Speaker 3: that's how that works. But I think that over the
- 20:21Speaker 3: course of one sixty two you are probably going to
- 20:23Speaker 3: be about as good, or close to as good, or
- 20:25Speaker 3: around as good as you should be. And I just
- 20:29Speaker 3: think it's very new and kind of evasive to say
- 20:32Speaker 3: that wins and losses are out over your control the
- 20:34Speaker 3: whole point of playing. If they're out of your control,
- 20:35Speaker 3: then why are you playing the games? I just kind
- 20:37Speaker 3: of roll my eyes at the comment, and I don't
- 20:39Speaker 3: think it's the right answer. And after eleven years of losing,
- 20:42Speaker 3: to kind of dismiss the value of wins and losses,
- 20:44Speaker 3: I mean, this is a fan base that wants wins right,
- 20:46Speaker 3: they deserve wins, you know. I mean really, last time
- 20:49Speaker 3: Mark Trumbo took the field least and they were winning
- 20:51Speaker 3: any games. It's for the Angels, that is, you know.
- 20:55Speaker 3: So it's it's this has just been way too long,
- 20:58Speaker 3: and I think it just was the wrong message to
- 21:01Speaker 3: send to your fans that the wins and losses aren't
- 21:03Speaker 3: part of what you can control. Because that that's why
- 21:06Speaker 3: you're here, that's why you're spending six weeks in spring,
- 21:08Speaker 3: that's why you're signing guys, that's why you're paying guys.
- 21:09Speaker 3: You want to make it within your control. So it
- 21:11Speaker 3: is in your control.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Mark. What was your reaction to that quote as a
- 21:15Speaker 2: former player, especially.
- 21:19Speaker 4: Well, I think it's what you say when you know
- 21:25Speaker 4: that there might be some growing pains. My honest answer
- 21:28Speaker 4: is what he I think he is getting at is
- 21:31Speaker 4: focused on the process, which is under your control. It's
- 21:34Speaker 4: something that you hear a lot, it is, and it
- 21:37Speaker 4: is true. You if you focus on the results and
- 21:42Speaker 4: chasing the results. Let's say, as a hitter, you just
- 21:45Speaker 4: you want to hit three thirty and you're just getting
- 21:48Speaker 4: you know, completely obsessed with the results and cutting out
- 21:52Speaker 4: the process part of it. It can be a very
- 21:54Speaker 4: uphill battle. Some guys are far motivated. Let's take Albert
- 21:58Speaker 4: for example. He was always acutely aware of where his
- 22:02Speaker 4: statistics were. His run scored were a big deal. At
- 22:07Speaker 4: times he would try and take the extra base. You
- 22:10Speaker 4: may recall sometimes out by ways, but it mattered. And
- 22:16Speaker 4: I'm not trying to, you know, say, because he's a
- 22:18Speaker 4: Hall of Famer and was excellent teammate to me. But
- 22:21Speaker 4: sometimes guys are motivated by that. But for a younger team,
- 22:26Speaker 4: I think Kurt's saying to block out the noise. It's
- 22:33Speaker 4: all I know is my experience. And I've had some
- 22:36Speaker 4: debates with guys that are currently not managing but bench
- 22:42Speaker 4: coaches throughout the game. And you know, we've just gotten
- 22:45Speaker 4: into these arguments about me saying the big leagues is
- 22:48Speaker 4: about winning, and I've been told that I'm wrong. It's
- 22:51Speaker 4: about the process. And I said, what in the world
- 22:54Speaker 4: are you talking about. I can so understand the process
- 22:57Speaker 4: of the minor leagues, But the big leagues, we're here
- 23:00Speaker 4: to win. That was always what I was told. That
- 23:02Speaker 4: was always the goal. I mean, the minor leagues are
- 23:05Speaker 4: where you flesh the stuff out. There is a process there.
- 23:08Speaker 4: If you need to improve certain things. You're on base percentage,
- 23:11Speaker 4: your stolen bases, your technique in the field. That is
- 23:14Speaker 4: what a process looks like in the big leagues. This
- 23:17Speaker 4: is playing for keeps. This is big dollars, big money.
- 23:19Speaker 4: You know, we're trying to win. I don't know if
- 23:22Speaker 4: that message is stale or it is out of fashion.
- 23:25Speaker 4: I don't think it is. That's what I would say.
- 23:28Speaker 4: Maybe not just you know, over and over again, but
- 23:31Speaker 4: that is the intent. We're here to win baseball games.
- 23:33Speaker 4: I think the fans are interested in them winning baseball games,
- 23:38Speaker 4: but maybe we can get to it too. I think
- 23:40Speaker 4: the Pakoda projections came out. Do you have those in
- 23:44Speaker 4: front of you by any chance?
- 23:45Speaker 1: Leader? It was sixty five wins this year, and I
- 23:49Speaker 1: always laughed because back in the day, Mike's Soshio with
- 23:52Speaker 1: the Pakoda preseason prediction would always undersell the Angels, and
- 23:57Speaker 1: they would they would always surpass their to and need
- 24:00Speaker 1: Social was always sure to let us know how many
- 24:03Speaker 1: games they passed Pacoda for predictions. But sixty five wins,
- 24:08Speaker 1: if you do the math, I believe that comes out
- 24:10Speaker 1: to ninety seven losses.
- 24:13Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 24:14Speaker 1: I think they're going to do a little better than that.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Once again, I'm being optimistic. Maybe I just feel like
- 24:20Speaker 1: they're due for a little some kind of karma better luck.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Not that they deserve it, but sixty five and ninety seven, Wow,
- 24:28Speaker 1: that is a brutal season.
- 24:30Speaker 3: What do you think, Sam, I mean, and I hear
- 24:33Speaker 3: what you're saying about Zeke's comments, and I do think
- 24:35Speaker 3: that is what he was intending to say. You know
- 24:38Speaker 3: about process, and that is that's the right way to
- 24:41Speaker 3: look at it at times. Right you want to be
- 24:43Speaker 3: process oriented. That will lead to I guess, I guess
- 24:46Speaker 3: my feeling is if you're process oriented, then you are
- 24:49Speaker 3: acknowledging that these wins and losses are in your control.
- 24:52Speaker 3: This isn't this This isn't a passive game of like, oh,
- 24:55Speaker 3: we'll see what happens. You know, it's you got to
- 24:58Speaker 3: go and play the game in and take the wins.
- 25:00Speaker 3: I mean, this is you know, this is this is
- 25:02Speaker 3: the big leagues. And I totally agree with I don't know,
- 25:04Speaker 3: I don't know who the bench coaches are that are
- 25:07Speaker 3: talking my opinion sideways about this topic, but you know,
- 25:11Speaker 3: this is this is for keeps. They should be going
- 25:13Speaker 3: and doing everything they can to win, especially when it
- 25:16Speaker 3: comes to a team that just hasn't. And you know,
- 25:19Speaker 3: you talked about you asked Papa Coda, like you know,
- 25:23Speaker 3: I think that's I don't agree with your optimistic or
- 25:26Speaker 3: outlook on this. I don't. I think that sixty five
- 25:29Speaker 3: may be right around, if not better than what I
- 25:32Speaker 3: kind of will see it as I mean, but again,
- 25:34Speaker 3: I've I perfectly willing and hope to be wrong about it.
- 25:37Speaker 3: I think it would be nice to be wrong about it.
- 25:38Speaker 3: It'd be nice for someone to be able to gloat
- 25:40Speaker 3: about outdoing projections. I just I just don't know how
- 25:44Speaker 3: you can sit there and expect it when all you've
- 25:47Speaker 3: signed this offseason are reclamation projects while allowing you know,
- 25:50Speaker 3: some proven players like you know, Kenley Jansen Taylor Ward
- 25:54Speaker 3: to kind of walk out the door. I mean, the
- 25:58Speaker 3: hundred one was driven in. Now. I think that taylor
- 26:00Speaker 3: Ward also contributed to some of the offensive issues when
- 26:02Speaker 3: it came to strikeouts and approach and things like that.
- 26:04Speaker 3: But you know, he also was productive and he had
- 26:06Speaker 3: some really really big hits for that team last year.
- 26:08Speaker 3: And so I don't know, I just I would probably
- 26:12Speaker 3: take the under on the sixty five, but I you know.
- 26:14Speaker 3: I I also think that it's there's there's a lot
- 26:19Speaker 3: that they can control, and they should, you know, there's
- 26:21Speaker 3: a lot that they can do to them to outdo
- 26:23Speaker 3: those projections if they're you know, really following what they're
- 26:27Speaker 3: they're practicing with their preaching and actually you know, doing
- 26:31Speaker 3: the process correctly. Because I have a lot of issues
- 26:34Speaker 3: with the process over the years as well. I don't
- 26:36Speaker 3: think they've done a good job.
- 26:37Speaker 2: With that mark. You got the over under on sixty five.
- 26:42Speaker 4: It's probably I think that they might do a little
- 26:46Speaker 4: bit better. I think they might also be capable of
- 26:50Speaker 4: doing worse. It really is what Sam was saying. And
- 26:54Speaker 4: when you look at it the depth, it's then like
- 26:56Speaker 4: if well, I former teammate trained man seeing he would
- 27:00Speaker 4: probably be the natural choice. Let's say Shannel unfortunately had
- 27:04Speaker 4: to miss some time. You have that at catcher, we
- 27:08Speaker 4: look very thin, at third base, very You start to
- 27:13Speaker 4: go around and well, I guess Darnault would but and
- 27:16Speaker 4: he's probably going to do better than he did last year.
- 27:20Speaker 4: The statistics were poor. It didn't seem like he ever
- 27:23Speaker 4: really got it going. He is getting older, so I
- 27:26Speaker 4: think and o'hapi is somebody that I've wanted to touch
- 27:30Speaker 4: on because he is a big part of this deal,
- 27:33Speaker 4: and you know, per social media, he was. You know,
- 27:38Speaker 4: a lot of guys go there drive line the other
- 27:41Speaker 4: day practicing what looked like a very violent swing. They
- 27:46Speaker 4: don't always have full a tire on either. There it
- 27:50Speaker 4: seems like but chasing the answer pilosity and I have
- 27:53Speaker 4: thoughts on that, and I don't always agree. It's not
- 27:58Speaker 4: how I have seen the best go about their business.
- 28:01Speaker 4: I know it's trendy, but he's a big, strong guy,
- 28:04Speaker 4: I guess, searching for an extra couple miles an hour.
- 28:07Speaker 4: But it very similar to pitchers you know that are
- 28:10Speaker 4: chasing just a little bit more. You wonder where these
- 28:13Speaker 4: oblique injuries comes from in the game, and you take
- 28:16Speaker 4: enough swing with that kind of violence, the body is
- 28:20Speaker 4: just you know, you can't do it. I know, hitting
- 28:22Speaker 4: in the homer in Derby. I did it twice for
- 28:25Speaker 4: those that care, and it was one of the most
- 28:28Speaker 4: tiring things I've ever done. It took two weeks to recover.
- 28:31Speaker 4: I probably at times have regretted doing the second one especially,
- 28:36Speaker 4: and that was one where I felt the oblique was
- 28:40Speaker 4: maybe about to give and I kind of shut it
- 28:42Speaker 4: down at the end if you were watching closely, which
- 28:44Speaker 4: you know, I don't know if any homer in Derby
- 28:46Speaker 4: is a little bit long in the tooth in my opinion,
- 28:48Speaker 4: But and we never there was no financial incentive then too,
- 28:52Speaker 4: maybe a truck or something, but anyway, I didn't win.
- 28:55Speaker 2: Maybe sour grapes.
- 28:57Speaker 4: However, the way these guys are training with the bat,
- 29:00Speaker 4: I'd like to see the ability to use the whole field,
- 29:03Speaker 4: and I don't see any of that when I watched
- 29:05Speaker 4: the reps that I was seeing the other day. Happily
- 29:08Speaker 4: be proven wrong. I hope he has a great season,
- 29:10Speaker 4: but that that path I saw a big red flag
- 29:14Speaker 4: in my opinion.
- 29:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean with a HOPI I mean it's the
- 29:19Speaker 3: power and the exit youlo. I mean, I hope that's
- 29:21Speaker 3: not the way he's looking at this, because he really
- 29:23Speaker 3: didn't hit for like five home runs after middle of
- 29:26Speaker 3: May last year. But I don't think it was because
- 29:28Speaker 3: he lacked power. I think it was pitch election and
- 29:31Speaker 3: he wasn't able to just slider. I mean it was
- 29:33Speaker 3: you know, he was just kind of just swinging on
- 29:35Speaker 3: a lot of pitches out of the zone. I think
- 29:37Speaker 3: that's where his issue is so I don't you know,
- 29:39Speaker 3: I haven't really gotten a chance to catch up with
- 29:40Speaker 3: him too much outside of you know, quick hello. So
- 29:43Speaker 3: I'll be curious to kind of get a sense of
- 29:44Speaker 3: what he focused on this offseason. But because I mean, he's,
- 29:48Speaker 3: like you said to me, he's such a wild card
- 29:51Speaker 3: for them. I mean, the potential to be you know,
- 29:54Speaker 3: an all star caliber major league catcher I think is
- 29:56Speaker 3: in there, but he's so far away from it right now.
- 29:59Speaker 3: And you know, I think mentally at times has just
- 30:02Speaker 3: been so lost that you know, you know, you stop,
- 30:07Speaker 3: you stop thinking about mechanics, I think, and you stop
- 30:09Speaker 3: thinking about some of the more granular things. Then maybe
- 30:12Speaker 3: he's working on a drive line and you start to
- 30:14Speaker 3: just be like just you know, just just be able
- 30:15Speaker 3: to process disappointment better, be able to you know, regroup
- 30:21Speaker 3: and you know, make an effort to really you know,
- 30:25Speaker 3: to to connect with your teammates and and and I
- 30:27Speaker 3: think these are the things that will really help him
- 30:29Speaker 3: be a more successful player at the big league level.
- 30:32Speaker 3: Less so, uh, you know, getting the extra velos on
- 30:34Speaker 3: the swing, because you know it might be helpful. Maybe
- 30:37Speaker 3: we'll get him a couple more homers. But I don't
- 30:39Speaker 3: really think that was his issue, and I'm not sure
- 30:41Speaker 3: he'd be I'm not saying I disagree with what he
- 30:43Speaker 3: approached it, because I don't know what he's everything he's done,
- 30:45Speaker 3: but I think that's what where he needs to improve most.
- 30:49Speaker 1: Yeah, Logan o'hapi is a youngster with a lot on
- 30:52Speaker 1: his plate this spring. In addition to all these offensive
- 30:54Speaker 1: issues we're talking about, he was ranked the worst defensive
- 30:58Speaker 1: catcher in baseball by Fangrafts last year minus ten defensive
- 31:03Speaker 1: runs saved, minus nine point four framing.
- 31:07Speaker 2: I mean these are all I mean.
- 31:10Speaker 1: I'm guessing Mike's Sooshia would not tolerate that kind of
- 31:14Speaker 1: defense from his catcher. He's got a lot on his plate,
- 31:18Speaker 1: so it's gonna be written to me. That's another big
- 31:21Speaker 1: storyline of the spring and going into the season. You
- 31:23Speaker 1: know he's got improved offensively and he definitely has to
- 31:26Speaker 1: improve defensively. Let's close the show by talking a little
- 31:30Speaker 1: bit about their rotation. We know they have three locks
- 31:34Speaker 1: in the rotation, Kakuchi, Soriano, Debt, Meurs. I personally think
- 31:39Speaker 1: Grayson Rodriguez and Alec Manoa have the inside line on
- 31:42Speaker 1: those last two.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Spots.
- 31:44Speaker 1: But there's still some pretty good pitchers out there, you know,
- 31:47Speaker 1: Zach Gallon, Zach Vittel. As of Wednesday, any inclination Sam
- 31:53Speaker 1: did this come up with Perrymanesian at all today? Is
- 31:56Speaker 1: there any thought that they might at least be able
- 31:59Speaker 1: to add some pitching depth. You know, there are guys
- 32:02Speaker 1: out there who could at least when these guys invariably
- 32:05Speaker 1: go down with injuries, could help.
- 32:08Speaker 3: I think depth is not out of the question in
- 32:09Speaker 3: terms of adding. But I don't think you're gonna see
- 32:11Speaker 3: a Gallon or anybody's too per I'd be shocked at
- 32:14Speaker 3: this point for a lot of reasons. But I don't
- 32:17Speaker 3: think that's happening now. You know, you never say never
- 32:20Speaker 3: with the Angels, But from what I from I understanding,
- 32:22Speaker 3: I don't think Gallon's really on the table. I don't
- 32:24Speaker 3: really think some of those higher end free agents that
- 32:26Speaker 3: are out there are really going to be on the table.
- 32:28Speaker 3: I mean, I find it interesting. I mean, look, the
- 32:30Speaker 3: Rockies went out in gun Jose, Kintana the other day.
- 32:32Speaker 3: I mean, I know the Angels have already tried that
- 32:35Speaker 3: once before didn't work very well in twenty twenty one.
- 32:37Speaker 3: But I kind of think those are the types of things, like,
- 32:40Speaker 3: you know, if you're the Angels and you're like at
- 32:41Speaker 3: least trying to acknowledge it, trying to you know, telegraph
- 32:45Speaker 3: a sense of contention. I think getting a player like
- 32:49Speaker 3: Kantana or you know, or even Michael Lorenzen who the
- 32:52Speaker 3: Rockies also signed, like those are you know, also the
- 32:55Speaker 3: player for the Angels will try to find success with
- 32:58Speaker 3: in the past. So, you know, I think that's that's
- 33:00Speaker 3: where I didn't really fully understand their offseason. I understand
- 33:02Speaker 3: why they try to you know, limit things, but would
- 33:07Speaker 3: it have been crazy to go out and sign a
- 33:08Speaker 3: mediocre starting pitcher for eight million dollars who can just
- 33:11Speaker 3: you know, eat some innings. It seems a little bit
- 33:13Speaker 3: surprising to me that that wasn't the route they really went. Instead,
- 33:16Speaker 3: they went really cheap with like a two million dollar
- 33:19Speaker 3: reclamation project in alec Manoa, who you know, obviously has
- 33:22Speaker 3: probably more upside than any of those pictures from what
- 33:24Speaker 3: we've seen in the past, but also is about four
- 33:27Speaker 3: years removed from being even a you know, viable starting
- 33:32Speaker 3: picture at the big league level, so you're really risking
- 33:35Speaker 3: him not even being an option for you, depending on
- 33:37Speaker 3: kind of where he's at and how he performs, and
- 33:41Speaker 3: then you know, I mean beyond them. I mean you
- 33:43Speaker 3: mentioned some of their good arms, but I'm skeptical guys
- 33:47Speaker 3: like Dana and Aldegary and class and like these guys
- 33:50Speaker 3: being really ready to go and just kind of take
- 33:52Speaker 3: that next step. They haven't shown it yet. Maybe they
- 33:54Speaker 3: will this year. Khanawit's kind of in that camp too.
- 33:55Speaker 3: Obviously struggled so much last season. He's not really even
- 33:59Speaker 3: in that conversation right now for the rotation at least
- 34:02Speaker 3: as far as you know, kind of has been talked
- 34:04Speaker 3: about publicly. So you know, there's there are guys, there
- 34:07Speaker 3: are names, there are people on their forty man who
- 34:09Speaker 3: could start for them. I just I wonder about the depth,
- 34:12Speaker 3: and I wonder beyond even really two. I mean, we
- 34:14Speaker 3: we add Debtmer's as a kind of a sure thing,
- 34:17Speaker 3: but I mean he hasn't started games and since twenty
- 34:19Speaker 3: twenty four, and when he did, he wasn't very good
- 34:21Speaker 3: at it. So you know, it's no insult to in.
- 34:24Speaker 3: He just really struggled that at that role and has
- 34:27Speaker 3: to prove that he can kind of do it consistently
- 34:28Speaker 3: because he's he's shown flashes of brilliant, but it's it's
- 34:31Speaker 3: been very very very very very inconsistent.
- 34:34Speaker 2: He did throw a no hitter Angel fans or four
- 34:37Speaker 2: years past.
- 34:38Speaker 3: Then it's just I mean Arry brought it up too,
- 34:40Speaker 3: and it's like, yeah, I think it's been a while,
- 34:42Speaker 3: you know, it was just this this guy's for this
- 34:44Speaker 3: guy's development has kind of been all over the place,
- 34:47Speaker 3: and and I wonder how the I mean, he was
- 34:49Speaker 3: good in the bullpen for quite a while last year,
- 34:50Speaker 3: but it really wasn't you know.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Mark, why do you size up the rotation at this point?
- 34:55Speaker 1: What would you like to see out of this group?
- 35:00Speaker 4: I think that despite the comments about going to have
- 35:03Speaker 4: to earn the spots, I think the spots are more
- 35:06Speaker 4: or less solidified. Kohanowitz, I pronounce that I think that
- 35:13Speaker 4: that one was I botched a young man's name on
- 35:18Speaker 4: the Keith Live, so I won't try and have that
- 35:21Speaker 4: happen again. A little bit of a secure name. But
- 35:24Speaker 4: I think he has a lot more promise. I did
- 35:26Speaker 4: see some videos this winter, and it's the highlight clips,
- 35:29Speaker 4: so take it with a grain of salt. But he
- 35:32Speaker 4: abandoned to me his bread and butter last year, which
- 35:35Speaker 4: was a power sinker. I saw a lot of flat
- 35:37Speaker 4: four seemers. I don't know what that was about. He
- 35:40Speaker 4: really maybe was trying to lean into the velocity craze.
- 35:46Speaker 4: And but he doesn't have a fastball that really is
- 35:49Speaker 4: effective in that regard. He doesn't throw it by guys,
- 35:51Speaker 4: So he is a ground ball pitcher to me, I
- 35:54Speaker 4: don't care if he's throwing ninety three, but if he's
- 35:56Speaker 4: chasing ninety eight ninety nine and it's flat, it's going
- 35:59Speaker 4: to get whacked. I mean, that's just the reality. I
- 36:02Speaker 4: know Otani, even his fastball, basically, if it's not in
- 36:05Speaker 4: the upper nineties or above, it gets whacked. It's the
- 36:10Speaker 4: you know, they have the data to prove it. And
- 36:12Speaker 4: that's why he has to resort to throw in as
- 36:14Speaker 4: hard as he does. It's not a knock. You know,
- 36:16Speaker 4: his off speed is excellent, but he can't get away
- 36:18Speaker 4: with doing that now. He doesn't have that sinker ball
- 36:21Speaker 4: that Kohanowitz does. Cayden Dana is a long ways off
- 36:24Speaker 4: in my opinion. He in particular, I believe at one
- 36:27Speaker 4: point last year they accentuated his release point was seven
- 36:31Speaker 4: inches or so different on his breaking ball, and for
- 36:35Speaker 4: a big league hitter that is that is child's play.
- 36:38Speaker 4: You will see that from a mile away. If I'm
- 36:41Speaker 4: slightly awful tracked later on, it was a big deal.
- 36:44Speaker 4: It's so obvious to a seasoned hitter, it's not even funny.
- 36:48Speaker 4: So you can make that adjustment very quickly. If it's
- 36:50Speaker 4: a hangar, it's going to get banged. Otherwise to just
- 36:52Speaker 4: spit on it as a ball alde Gary long ending guy.
- 36:56Speaker 4: To me, I'm not sure what just maybe he maybe
- 37:02Speaker 4: he's he would be a candidate that would benefit from
- 37:04Speaker 4: gaining some velocity. But manoah looks like he's. His fitness
- 37:08Speaker 4: looked pretty good. I think that's a big deal. Everyone's
- 37:11Speaker 4: very interested in that. He looks trimmer than before, so
- 37:15Speaker 4: that's good. And I think Grayson Rodriguez a lot. His
- 37:18Speaker 4: stuff is way too good of healthy to not challenge
- 37:21Speaker 4: for even better than the fourth spot. And I believe
- 37:24Speaker 4: Detmer's lost his arbitration. Maybe Sam, you can clarify.
- 37:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I believe so that's what I read at least,
- 37:31Speaker 3: And I agree with you on Khanna. It's actually like
- 37:33Speaker 3: if he's you know, he'll have every opportunity to get
- 37:36Speaker 3: back in this thing. I mean, you know, it's there's
- 37:38Speaker 3: a reason they let him kind of go out there
- 37:41Speaker 3: as much as he did last year. And I think
- 37:42Speaker 3: it was because it's like we've seen it, like it's
- 37:45Speaker 3: seem in this twenty twenty four when he was pitching,
- 37:47Speaker 3: he was really he was probably the best picture for
- 37:49Speaker 3: like a stretch of for almost two months. So it's
- 37:52Speaker 3: in there. I just don't know if he's a starter,
- 37:54Speaker 3: and I don't know how that translates at the big
- 37:57Speaker 3: at the big league level when it comes to you knowing,
- 38:00Speaker 3: I mean, he can he can pitch very efficiently. Even
- 38:02Speaker 3: when he struggled, he can allow eleven runs and go
- 38:04Speaker 3: seven innings. I mean it's because it's it's pitches, you know,
- 38:07Speaker 3: pitches to contact largely. I mean, though he had some
- 38:09Speaker 3: more walk issues last year. I think I'll have every
- 38:12Speaker 3: opportunity and ultimately, you know, there's gonna be opportunities for
- 38:15Speaker 3: a lot of these guys.
- 38:16Speaker 4: That's that is.
- 38:17Speaker 3: You know, if somebody steps up, if somebody is good,
- 38:21Speaker 3: you know there's there is there is an avenue here,
- 38:24Speaker 3: but you know, there's just there. There is just nothing
- 38:28Speaker 3: that has been shown so far that makes me really
- 38:30Speaker 3: confident that they have a stud big league pitcher in
- 38:33Speaker 3: this core right now, you know, outside of maybe the
- 38:37Speaker 3: two locks to the rotation and maybe Grayson Rodriguez if
- 38:40Speaker 3: he's healthy.
- 38:41Speaker 1: All right, We're gonna end on that note. Thanks for
