- 2:18The stars beat The Jets in overtime 2 to one to advance to
- 2:23the third, their third Western Conference finals appearance in
- 2:26a row. Mark Sheffly scored the only
- 2:29goal for The Jets after his father passed away.
- 2:32The before defenseman Thomas Harley scored the game-winning
- 2:37overtime goal, just his fifth career playoff goal.
- 2:41Will now The Stars will now face the Oilers in the Western
- 2:44Conference Finals in a rematch from last year.
- 2:46The Panthers blew out the the Leaf 6 to 1 to advance to their
- 2:52third Eastern Conference Finals appearance in a row.
- 2:55The Panthers had three goals in each of the second and third
- 2:58periods and got goals from six different players.
- 3:03The Maple Leafs have now lost seven straight game sevens, with
- 3:07their last win coming in 2004. The Panthers will face off
- 3:11against the Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference finals in a
- 3:13rematch from 2023. Well, here's the facts guys, and
- 3:18we have to understand this. The Stars were one of the best
- 3:21teams in the league all season long.
- 3:23This was expected. It was the Stars of Winnipeg.
- 3:26Whoever was going to win that game, a lot of people have them
- 3:29going to the finals and facing off against Florida and it's
- 3:32going exactly the way that everybody expected.
- 3:35I and I think obviously the Oilers are dangerous because
- 3:38they have Connor McDavid and they have dry Sidle.
- 3:41So they have two of the best offensive players in the world,
- 3:44arguably the two best offensive players in the world.
- 3:48The one thing the Oilers have had problems having and that's
- 3:52goaltending. The reason why the Oilers are
- 3:54here and the reason why the Oilers have played so well over
- 3:57the last two years is because of their head coach, hockey.
- 3:59You need a coach that understands the X's and O's,
- 4:03putting the players in the position to get them to do the
- 4:06things that you need them to do. And now Black has been as good
- 4:09of as good of a coach as any young coach in the NHL.
- 4:14It's fun to watch. This Edmonton Oiler Oiler team
- 4:17is very dangerous because they have defenseman that can put the
- 4:20puck in the net, they can bring the puck up and they could do so
- 4:23many things with the weapons that they have.
- 4:25This is not just two line, 2 line team.
- 4:28This is a three line team that has as good of a offensive find
- 4:33as the Dallas Stars. But here's the thing that Dallas
- 4:35Stars have that they don't have and that's goaltending.
- 4:38Ottinger has been one of the best goalies in the world for
- 4:41the last five years. Ottinger, when he is on, he's
- 4:45almost impossible to put the buck in the net.
- 4:47Now Connor McDavid, he experienced beating Hollabuck to
- 4:51beating a Team USA in that All Star, you know, extravaganza
- 4:56this past year. He never faced Ottinger, he
- 4:59never scored against Ottinger and I think Ottinger is a
- 5:02different type of beast. And I think Dallas has that kind
- 5:06of provision and what they can do defensively with the the guys
- 5:10that they have. And and I just think that
- 5:13they're just a probably the best all around team besides Florida
- 5:17still in the playoffs. You can argue Dallas and Florida
- 5:22are the most talented teams in the NHL and that's what you want
- 5:25to see. You want to see Dallas and
- 5:26Florida. Winnipeg won the President
- 5:28Trophy and it really because all around they had the best goalie
- 5:32in the world all season long. But you you can see Hollabuck
- 5:35has had problems in the playoffs.
- 5:37He cannot win the big game. He's had problems getting it
- 5:40done in the big game. Anger really.
- 5:43He's been hot and cold, but he's a guy that has done it in the
- 5:46playoffs. And you can win with Florida.
- 5:48We all know what they have over there.
- 5:50Goal 10 they got defense, they have a a winning personality
- 5:54over there in Florida. They've won a championship.
- 5:57They've got better weapons than they had last year.
- 5:59Brad Marshant is there who won with Boston, a guy that has been
- 6:04one of the best wingers in the NHL for the last 10 seasons.
- 6:08And now they have that kind of weapon.
- 6:10They got a healthy Kachuck and and this team all around is just
- 6:15ridiculous. I don't think you can argue that
- 6:18this Florida Panther team is not better than the team last year.
- 6:22Just think about it. That team was great.
- 6:25This team is is otherworldly worldly.
- 6:28So I just think it's crazy when you look at both teams and what
- 6:33they've done over the last past year.
- 6:35I I do believe Carolina's going to get create problems for the
- 6:39Florida Panthers because they are very good defensive team.
- 6:41Brinda Moore is a good coach. I just, I don't know if Carolina
- 6:45has a goaltending either. When you look at all four of
- 6:47these teams, Carolina and Edmonton have the worst
- 6:51goaltending and they've had the worst goaltending in the NHL for
- 6:56years. When you look at all these teams
- 6:58that go into the playoffs and make these kind of runs, it's
- 7:01just they have sensational players and that's what makes
- 7:05both teams so unique. And by the way, ever since
- 7:09Rotnen has gone to the Stars. I mean, it's, it's, it's
- 7:13ridiculous. The stars are even better than
- 7:15they were before they got them and and now they're just like,
- 7:19they're almost impossible to beat.
- 7:21If Rodney is playing like this, not only does he deserve the
- 7:24money, Carolina is going to be smacked around by the fans if
- 7:27they can't get over the hump against the Florida Panthers.
- 7:29You make that trade with Colorado, you trade all those
- 7:32pieces away to have this guy on the run and now he's playing for
- 7:35the opposite team in another conference and there he's
- 7:39smacking the crap out of the whole conference, whole Western
- 7:42Conference. It's sickening.
- 7:44If if you're a Carolina, Carolina hurricane fan, you
- 7:47should be sick to your God damn stomach watching this right now.
- 7:51What he's doing with Dallas. He leads the playoffs right now
- 7:54in goals and assists. It's it's sickening.
- 7:58This guy is the best player in the playoffs.
- 8:01That's what you traded away for? Absolutely nothing.
- 8:05Rob Brindle Moore is probably sweating his ass off just like
- 8:08Jason Kidd was when the idiot, yes the idiot Dallas Mavericks
- 8:12decided, hey, you know what? We're going to trade Luka Dodgek
- 8:15away at 24 years old, 25. What an idiot organization
- 8:20Carolina deserves to lose in this series against Florida.
- 8:23Yeah, well, I don't think Don Waddell is nearly as bad as what
- 8:25Nico Harrison did. It definitely is a little
- 8:27skeptical when you see it two years in a row because they did
- 8:29the same thing with Genzel when it seemed like they were going
- 8:30to resign him too. They traded a lot to get him and
- 8:33I was supposed to be the big swing to put them over the hump
- 8:35and and they end up losing to the Rangers in the second round
- 8:37of the playoffs. And this kind of team is kind of
- 8:39weird. The Carolina Hurricanes playoff
- 8:40identity. It's kind of odd.
- 8:42They do well in the years they're not as expected to do
- 8:44well. I thought they'd go this far,
- 8:45but again, it was a weaker metropolitan division this year.
- 8:48This is a big test for them. And this is one thing I was
- 8:50talking about last week in hockey.
- 8:51It's not as good to rest for as long.
- 8:53They have about a week off between when they won and when
- 8:55they're going to when they're going to play game one.
- 8:56Florida has been very battle tested in this Toronto series.
- 9:00And I think I think like you said, yeah, they have the
- 9:02physicality. Caroline is great defensively.
- 9:04They can get very finesse driven at certain points too.
- 9:06So I do worry about them for them in this series.
- 9:08And where's the extra depth in Star power that Florida got,
- 9:11like you're saying with Marshawn, who has all this
- 9:12playoff experience? And then on the other side, it's
- 9:14it's impressive with both Dallas and Edmonton have done when
- 9:17their stars have been taken out like game seven, Game 6 for
- 9:21Dallas, like it wasn't their main guys.
- 9:23That was really the focal points of this team.
- 9:25Neither Robertson nor nor Ronson and and even Heiskinen was a
- 9:29good defenseman offensively, didn't have a point in that
- 9:31game. And it was a lot of those role
- 9:33players getting it going for them and some kind of thing with
- 9:35Edmonton. We've seen guys like Zach Hyman,
- 9:36Connor Brown, Ryan Nugent, Hopkins, these veteran depth
- 9:40guys that I think be able to overcome that in that series
- 9:43too. And Winnipeg, there's a question
- 9:44marks with them if they were able to get enough on the trade
- 9:46deadline as well. And maybe that hurt them in that
- 9:48series as well. So aggression does matter.
- 9:50And like you're Errol saying, depth and goaltending doesn't
- 9:52matter too. And I, I had Dallas in Florida
- 9:54at the start, Errol, I got three out of four teams.
- 9:56I had a different three out of four teams in the conference
- 9:58finals. I had dials in Florida at the
- 10:00start and I'm going to obviously stick with it In this series.
- 10:03I got dials in six and Florida in five.
- 10:06Yeah, I'm pretty much with you on that, Speedy.
- 10:09I don't know if it's even going to go five.
- 10:12I'm not going to lie. I really think Florida, I mean,
- 10:15look what we knew what was going to happen in game seven in
- 10:18Toronto, right? We know what the Leafs are about
- 10:21and it's about no showing when it matters the most.
- 10:24And Florida just gave them another one to to add to the the
- 10:28list of disappointments in Toronto Maple Leafs history,
- 10:32number one overall seed and you get blown at your doors off at
- 10:36home, six to one. That's inexcusable.
- 10:39I mean, it's just, I mean, I guess it's what the Leafs do,
- 10:41but it's also because Florida is that good that, I mean, that's a
- 10:46really good Leafs team. They lost their bully.
- 10:48I understand. Right, this is their best
- 10:49chance, but that's a. But look, that's an unbelievable
- 10:52six to one in Game 7. So you you got that coming off
- 10:56of that momentum against a team that's a little cold.
- 10:59I mean, it could go four and they don't have Ranton and they
- 11:02traded him away. Who do they who would be helpful
- 11:06in this series? You know, I would say Ranton
- 11:09would be very helpful. And on the other side, what a
- 11:11slugfest that's going to be. I cannot wait for that series.
- 11:16Oh my God, that's going to be just such fireworks.
- 11:19But it can go either way in every game.
- 11:21It could be like it could be real good goalie match up and be
- 11:25low scoring, or it could just go bonkers because of the talent on
- 11:28those teams. That should be a lot, a lot, a
- 11:31lot of fun. But I think Florida is going to
- 11:34just take care of business pretty quickly.
- 11:37All right, it's going to be fun. Ladies and gentlemen, I this is
- 11:40the best time of the year because you get a chance to
- 11:42watch some NHL, you get to watch some NBA playoffs and it it it's
- 11:47so close and these teams are so close and botched together.
- 11:51But again, it it all it takes is great goaltending or goaltending
- 11:55that just shows up throughout a series and and and a surprise
- 11:58team could go all the way and win a Stanley Cup and
- 12:00basketball, it's completely different.
- 12:02And Chris Childs could probably tell you the same thing when it
- 12:05comes to winning. You need a right.
- 12:07You need the right formula. And all these teams that are
- 12:10still in the playoffs, OKC, the Timberwolves, the Knicks and the
- 12:14Pacers, they have their own formula.
- 12:17The question in is the formula, is that formula on each roster
- 12:22the right formula that's going to take them off the hump?
- 12:24And you need superstars. You need superstars and all
- 12:28these teams have a * superstar at either a guard position or a
- 12:33big. So it's going to be really,
- 12:36really fun to watch. And I'm I'm excited to see see
- 12:39what's going to happen in in both the NHL and NBA playoffs.
- 12:42Before we get to our guest and we have our sports minute, we
- 12:45have our golf clap of the deck. Jimenez deserves a golf clap.
- 12:51No doubt. Golf clap.
- 12:52Golf clap ladies and gentlemen, the golf clap of the day goes to
- 12:58the one and only Caitlin Clark. Why should we not give her the
- 13:03golf clap of the day? Well ladies and gentlemen, the
- 13:06Fever and Caitlin Clark tie one of the greatest players in WNBA
- 13:12history. She ties Candice Parker all time
- 13:15in triple double S list after doing what she did in game
- 13:20number one of the season and boy oh boy, 20 points, 10 rebounds
- 13:26and 10 assists. Yes ladies and gentlemen, she is
- 13:29doing it all. And the WNBA ladies and
- 13:32gentlemen has not only a superstar, they have a face
- 13:36moving forward for the next 10 years.
- 13:38A woman that is going to bring endorsements, Nike deals and
- 13:43great coverage to the WNBA, something they haven't had in
- 13:46such a long time. You can't take away a superstar.
- 13:50You can't take away a person that brings a dynamic vision to
- 13:54a league that needs it. And that's what she brings to
- 13:57the game. And Caitlin Clark has shown it
- 14:00time and time again, not just in college basketball, but what she
- 14:04delivers to a game that is absolutely looking for
- 14:08superstars. And they have Angel Reese, they
- 14:10have now Caitlin Clark, 2 ladies that are going to take the game
- 14:14by storm. But Caitlin Clark doing what
- 14:16she's doing right now in such a young career and and still only
- 14:21two years in, she's still kind of a rookie and she's breaking
- 14:24records already. It's something to watch, guys.
- 14:27You're watching something that you might never see again.
- 14:31And I'm telling you, you might never see this again.
- 14:33We're seeing players start develop into a Steph Curry kind
- 14:37of like player that is going to give the WNBA that star that
- 14:43they've need, needed for a long, long time.
- 14:45So my golf clap of the day goes to the one and only Caitlin
- 14:48Clark for doing what she is doing.
- 14:50And that's bringing not only fans and endorsements.
- 14:53She's bringing a different style of game to the WNBA.
- 14:56So the golf clap, Caitlin Clark. And now, ladies and gentlemen,
- 15:00we call the next segment goodies.
- 15:04Bag of balls. My mom was going to wire a.
- 15:08Car battery with my testicles. Trying to put Tiger Bomb on
- 15:10this. Jungle is nuts bag.
- 15:13Of balls. That's how you become great man
- 15:15and your. Balls out there try to get my
- 15:19head out of his crotch. How long did you and Nathan sit
- 15:25in a dark room and just do that? Not anybody, because you guys,
- 15:31you're a grown man. Because I'm a grown man and
- 15:33that's why I don't sit in. Rooms I don't know.
- 15:35With other men. I guess some would say, some
- 15:39would say you're a grown man. I guess being 48.
- 15:43Congratulations. Happy birthday, Let's 43
- 15:46celebrate. Stop it.
- 15:47Celebrating the second birthday. Five years.
- 15:51I mean, that's a lot, man. I mean, hey, we did.
- 15:54I did see Speedy PD breaking it down on the dance floor not too
- 15:57long ago. Clean themselves well he did
- 16:00yeah I had to hype him up because sometimes he just stands
- 16:02there with his finger up his ass so you know somebody's got was
- 16:05not having my. Finger in my ass.
- 16:06A freaking Mohegan Sun. No, you were standing there
- 16:09wondering where your finger goes up your.
- 16:11Ass until. I hot job.
- 16:13No, no, no, he, he. This who wants to do we have any
- 16:17video because if we had the video up right.
- 16:19Now. I I think people, I think people
- 16:22have to see this guy when he dances.
- 16:25Well, this is perfect because he looks like he's on drugs.
- 16:28And my first segment is PED suspensions, MLB testing
- 16:33policies. All right, so while Fish is
- 16:35loading up this new, this dance video of speedy PD on
- 16:39amphetamines and HCH and steroids and all the other drugs
- 16:42that go down his throat, we want to talk about Jose Alvarado's 80
- 16:48game suspension for PEDs that just happened recently and what
- 16:53kind of impact losing a key reliever like that has on the
- 16:56bullpen. All right, did everybody see
- 16:59that? Yes, yes, yes, we all saw that,
- 17:01right? Yes.
- 17:03Do we do we know what he failed for?
- 17:05Has it been released yet? Well they said the whatever all
- 17:10the people said he was trying to lose weight so assume they
- 17:14assumed it was like. Hydroxycut.
- 17:17Or yeah, the shit you can get get at the gas station right
- 17:20there that feels like your heart's going to populate out of
- 17:22your chest. No, I think it's.
- 17:27And honestly man, this is one thing that does bother me.
- 17:31Like there's only been 2 cases in our history where it's been a
- 17:34false positive and one was a cough medicine from his son and
- 17:38one was a foot ointment that have been proven that no, we
- 17:42didn't do this. This is exactly what it was.
- 17:44Only ones have been turned over when it's called the Freddy
- 17:47Galvis exception because that's who it happened to.
- 17:50But you know what you put in? Like we have every opportunity
- 17:54to know like because we can't pronounce the words, but you're
- 17:58like, hey, I got this new supplement.
- 17:59Boom. They can type it in.
- 18:01They can check it to see if it's legal or not.
- 18:02Like, and if you get caught, just own it.
- 18:06Like stop running away from it. Like we know what happens in the
- 18:09game, but you've never seen anybody be like, Yep, I did, you
- 18:13know, and nobody would even say anything.
- 18:16It's like it's the reason they don't talk about Jason Giambi
- 18:19doing steroids because he came out and he's like, yes, I did
- 18:22it. It was not illegal in the game,
- 18:25but yes, I did it. And nobody even brings him up.
- 18:29So just hold yourself. But you know what you're putting
- 18:31in your body. I played with a pretty good
- 18:34Toronto Blue Jays hair back in the day.
- 18:36He's pretty good, really good, who failed through PEDs and said
- 18:40he got it through steak. So maybe it happened, maybe it
- 18:44didn't. Sounds like Canelo Alvarez.
- 18:45Did anybody know that story? Canelo Alvarez, the boxer came
- 18:49out when he, you know, he was fighting Triple G and it came
- 18:54out that he said they found like 50 times the juice inside of his
- 19:00body that anybody takes off of one cycle.
- 19:03And he came out and said, well, I was eating a lot of steak.
- 19:06I ate 50 steaks. That's why I had all that juice
- 19:09inside of me. And I anybody that knows
- 19:11anything about juice knows that no matter how much meat you eat,
- 19:15it's not going to make a difference.
- 19:16There's no way you're going to find that many CCS in your body
- 19:19unless you're taking steroids. All right, Goody.
- 19:21I found it. It's exogenous testosterone.
- 19:24That's what I got. Suspended for what?
- 19:27Does that even mean? So probably, so it's probably
- 19:30the stuff you rub on your skin exogenous.
- 19:33So they have the they have. The it's the topical.
- 19:36Yes, that's what my best bet would be.
- 19:38But I mean, you still know what you're putting in.
- 19:41So my, my question is all right, yes, if you if you fail, just
- 19:45come out and say you failed. Obviously just admit to it.
- 19:49You know, you screwed up, whatever.
- 19:50But how can teams look? Those guys wear a scarlet letter
- 19:56pretty much. Oh yeah.
- 19:57Here we go. Here's speedy PD on the PEDs
- 20:00right here. Look.
- 20:00For you, Carl. Let's go, Carl.
- 20:04You got some work to do, Big Dove.
- 20:07Yes, Sir. By the way, Carl, I'm wearing my
- 20:10Knicks jersey here, not some freaking vests.
- 20:14Hey, hey, those hips don't lie cuz look at them things, bro.
- 20:17You lose as a goose up for that joint, you know.
- 20:21So my my thing is all these guys now wear a scarlet letter,
- 20:24right? They all got the scarlet letter.
- 20:25So how can a team, you know, we and I haven't gone through this,
- 20:28but I want to hear your, your takes on this.
- 20:30But how can teams maintain unities after unity, after aped
- 20:34scandal? And Will is Bryce Harper, you
- 20:37know, obviously a leader of the Phillies, maybe Nolan Nola.
- 20:42Will they step up and be able to keep the team going in the
- 20:45direction they want it to go? It's a revolving door, that
- 20:47bullpen. It always is like, all right,
- 20:50let's bring in this flashy guy. And then they always do well
- 20:52with their their like second tier guys that maybe break break
- 20:55out as much. And some of them have turned
- 20:56into starters like Ranger Suarez.
- 20:58You saw that last year with Sanchez.
- 20:59So I think the Phillies have a good like team culture to handle
- 21:02that. Well, I I think too, with
- 21:04Tomper, you know, as at the helm and you know, K Long and the
- 21:08staff that he's got behind them, I think they'll be fine.
- 21:10It's just you think about the magnitude of what you know.
- 21:13He's not eligible for the playoffs.
- 21:16Yes, he's 7 for seven. You're losing a key reliever.
- 21:21This is the guy. Who cares if you're fat if
- 21:23you're 7 for seven throwing a hundy and it's sinking off the
- 21:26damn dish, I don't care. Go ahead and it doesn't matter.
- 21:30You can go get ready in the offseason.
- 21:32Like who cares if you are pitching like that with the way
- 21:35it is? And he's been very reliable as a
- 21:39big dude who's we saw what happened to Cece when he came
- 21:42back and lost all that weight. He was throwing 80 Doo.
- 21:45It's just 80 Doo, just Doo Doo. And then he gained his weight
- 21:49back and he's back in 9193. And so I don't think they'll, I
- 21:54don't think they'll have a problem.
- 21:54But this is one thing that now you look at as the front office,
- 21:58he did this to get you 80. Can't, can't pitch in the
- 22:01playoffs. He has a $9 million option.
- 22:03What do you do? Do you pick it up and be like
- 22:05ah, or do you be like, hey, kick rocks?
- 22:08Well. There's a.
- 22:10There's a thing called the trade deadline and if you need a
- 22:13pitcher, you go out and get one. That's what I would do.
- 22:16And as far as PEDs are concerned, who cares?
- 22:18They're doing PEDs. Obviously it benefits them when
- 22:22they get on the mound. And if they're the NA, the, I've
- 22:24said this many, many times, the NFL, they allow this to go on.
- 22:28It's been going on forever. The NBA, you Tony, Dwight Howard
- 22:31never did steroids. Look at the guy.
- 22:33Look at the size he was when he was playing basketball.
- 22:35LeBron James hasn't done any of that.
- 22:38They're all doing so. Honest to God, they got to
- 22:41figure out a way where, you know, certain PEDs are allowed
- 22:45in professional sports because everybody is doing it and
- 22:47they're just trying to hide it. So that's what I think.
- 22:51I like it. I like it.
- 22:52Obviously the steroid air in baseball is great.
- 22:53Moving on to the next one, we all saw Colton Wong's
- 22:56retirement. So what is Colton Wong's legacy
- 22:59in Saint Louis? He was a two time Gold Glove
- 23:01second baseman. He retired just recently after a
- 23:05notable career primarily with the Saint Louis Cardinals.
- 23:09Also wanted to touch a little bit on the reinstatement of Pete
- 23:12Rose and reconsidering some other band players.
- 23:17For those of you who don't know who Colton Wong was, he's a
- 23:19defensive stand out. Like I said, you're in a Gold
- 23:21Gloves in 2019-2020 at a career 987 fielding percentage.
- 23:27He was a whole. He's a Hawaiian born baseball
- 23:31player, really a fan favorite. He brought a lot of diversity
- 23:36and you know, relatability to Saint Louis and really for his
- 23:41hustle and he did a lot of community work as well.
- 23:44He was trading it to Milwaukee in 2021, which hurt the fan
- 23:49base, which is another thing that I think players that
- 23:52generated great or have good relationships with fan bases,
- 23:55those teams should try and latch on and hold on to those guys.
- 23:59For example, Francisco Lindor, but what is his legacy to Saint
- 24:05Louis Jabba? If you played against them or
- 24:08played with them, what do you got on them?
- 24:10And Arrow, I'm not sure if and Speedy, I'm not sure if you
- 24:13watch too much of them, but I thought he was a damn good
- 24:15second baseman when he was with Saint Louis.
- 24:18Kind of tapered off toward the end of his career.
- 24:21Always fun to watch. Love the love the Island guys.
- 24:24You know the guys from from Hawaii, they come in, they bring
- 24:26flair, they bring just a different take and a different
- 24:28look. And it's always fun to watch
- 24:30those guys play. And I knew he was beloved in
- 24:33Saint Louis. So what is his legacy?
- 24:36We got, you know, obviously a lot of Cardinals fans here just
- 24:41because it's close proximity. There's only two, two really
- 24:44close ones. But no, I always, I always
- 24:47appreciated his defense. He always laid it on one.
- 24:50The one of the the plays that always stands out in my mind is
- 24:53he feels that ball up the middle doesn't even close his glove and
- 24:55flips it to 2nd for the double play.
- 24:59I think he was an unbelievable defender.
- 25:00He had sparks of offense every once in a while.
- 25:05I think it hurt him not to be re signed back by the Cardinals
- 25:08because he was so beloved there and that sometimes, you know,
- 25:10mentally can play a toll on you. And you know, he ended up only
- 25:13hitting like 200 for the rest of his career.
- 25:16So I think that plays a part on it more.
- 25:18And you know, as we were talking with Chris earlier, talking
- 25:21about how different it is in New York compared to like New
- 25:23Jersey, and, you know, he's going where he's beloved.
- 25:26And, you know, Cardinals fans, whether you're great, I mean,
- 25:31shit, they love Matt Carpenter and he was hitting like $1.83
- 25:34and they were still here. And so I think that plays a
- 25:37part. But, and it's crazy.
- 25:39He was only 27 hits shy of 1000. Wasn't really known for his
- 25:43offensive prowess, but he was just fun to watch because you
- 25:46knew at any time it's going to make a spectacular play.
- 25:49And he had a chance to do it. But he just, he was that good in
- 25:53the field. And it was, it was.
- 25:54So yeah, this is stupid. Sick.
- 25:56He doesn't. He doesn't even close his glove.
- 25:58Yeah, it's smooth. It's smooth.
- 26:00No, that's what I'm saying. He.
- 26:01And the thing about what people don't understand is they like,
- 26:05oh, that looks flashy. Like they're so good.
- 26:07They practice this stuff. Like.
- 26:09It doesn't even like it's just going and then there and they.
- 26:13Practice canoe in highs. When you yeah, yeah, better
- 26:18believe. It I mean, yeah, the guys, the
- 26:23guy was a defensive wizard. So I mean not known for his his
- 26:27offensive prowess, but. Ozzy Smith was he was called the
- 26:31Wizard of Oz and we all know what he was on a on a baseball
- 26:34field. The guy was like, I don't even
- 26:36know if he was a wizard. He it was like he did magic and
- 26:40it was so many things that I've seen him do.
- 26:42We've seen guys like I've seen so many great defensive players
- 26:46over the years. And then you mentioned Juan.
- 26:48I think there's, there's a uniqueness when it comes to
- 26:51defense. They're not remembered when you
- 26:53when you watch these guys, they could be the greatest defensive
- 26:55players. I mean, who's the Odonias?
- 26:59Odonias was a great Ray Odonias was a great defender for the New
- 27:03York Mets. He was a horrible hitter.
- 27:05He couldn't hit for crap. He always struck out.
- 27:08He couldn't hit when he was in a big position for the Mets.
- 27:11He never, he can never get the big hit, but he was a Wizard of
- 27:14Oz when he came to his defensive style of play.
- 27:17I I just think. When you That's Omar.
- 27:20I'm sorry, Omar. Viscal too, same thing.
- 27:23But Omar Viscal was. Defense.
- 27:25Yeah, but he was a. Pretty my Little League could.
- 27:27If my T-ball team could play defense, we would be four.
- 27:30No, not Owen 4. Baby, I could tell you're losing
- 27:33your voice too, but I will. Say body yelling.
- 27:36Yeah, well, obviously when you're coaching your son.
- 27:39I have to get running the fundamentals, Cody.
- 27:42I met Braxton. I met Braxton.
- 27:45I I. Think we had the parents, we had
- 27:47the parents first the kids today and they were talking mad shit
- 27:51and AT ball game and we had a couple injuries.
- 27:54We actually are starting to go fund me page for our medical
- 27:56bills that have racked up in our last four games.
- 27:58So if you guys want to donate to go fund me page, we can actually
- 28:01use the help here. E torch Babe Ruth, let the
- 28:04league stick to you. T-ball bills are stacking up.
- 28:07How to make a note? At his remaining $3 for Savior.
- 28:10Quickly, I will say this, a lot of people don't don't really
- 28:14look at defense to be very important, even though it is in
- 28:17any sport. But I mean, you're always
- 28:20looking at the bat. You're going to remember Aaron
- 28:21Judge, You're going to remember Otani.
- 28:23You're not going to remember, oh, did you?
- 28:24Do you remember that spectacular catch?
- 28:27Well, Speaking of Speaking of the bat, I wanted to touch a
- 28:30little bit on Pete Rose and and does Pete Rose's reinstatement
- 28:34make him obviously a lock for Cooperstown, which I would agree
- 28:37that all of us agree, or will voters hold his pass against
- 28:42them? And should other band players be
- 28:45reconsidered like the 1919 Chicago Black Sox?
- 28:48The steroid era? Guys, you agree with all that?
- 28:53All of it. First of all, Barry Bonds should
- 28:55be in the Hall of Fame. Rodger Clement should be in the
- 28:57Hall of Fame. Andy Pettitte should be in the
- 28:59Hall of Fame. All these guys that we
- 29:00mentioned, I don't care if they did steroids, HDH, it doesn't
- 29:04make you see the ball, doesn't make you.
- 29:05It gives you a little bit more power.
- 29:07You're going to tell me Alex Rodriguez wasn't going to put up
- 29:09the numbers he was going to put up if he didn't do steroids?
- 29:12If he did, if he didn't do steroids, it's a bunch of crap.
- 29:15We've had analytic guys come on the show and expressed the
- 29:19analytics to steroids and what it might do for you if you were
- 29:23on it. And if you weren't, it's not
- 29:25going to change the player. So yeah, I think they all should
- 29:28be reinstated. The black, the White Sox,
- 29:31whatever, whoever was obviously tossed to the aside by the MLB
- 29:35because. The 1919 black socks with
- 29:37Shoeless Joe Jack. Exactly.
- 29:39They were banned for throwing the World Series.
- 29:41If Otani can continue playing after we all know, even though
- 29:45it wasn't proven that he was betting on baseball, every
- 29:48single one of them should be allowed to be inducted, inducted
- 29:52into the Hall of Fame. That doesn't change your talent.
- 29:55It doesn't change the game and the way you played when you
- 29:57played it. And that's all I'm going to say.
- 30:00Should MLB create a formal process on reviewing Bands A?
- 30:05100% or they have. To be fair, they did it now, but
- 30:08they're not voting till December of 27th.
- 30:10So what? What?
- 30:11Why vote now? Yeah, like the vote doesn't
- 30:13happen till 27th. Well, yeah, I think what Goody's
- 30:15referring to is just like a process of doing it all at once
- 30:18for all these guys that are reinstated, all the all the band
- 30:21players that haven't been reinstated, make it a more
- 30:24formal gathering before, like the actual Hall of Fame voting
- 30:26starts. Yeah.
- 30:28But do you have just one or do you have OK, so this committee
- 30:31now just is doing the reinstatement OK, Then do we
- 30:34have another one just for steroid guys and our and our.
- 30:37No, I think, I think it has to be probably the same.
- 30:39Why is why is there not players on that panel then?
- 30:42Oh, I agree. I'm not saying last thing.
- 30:43I trust them to do the right thing.
- 30:45These Hall of Fame voters, Scott.
- 30:48Yeah, I think there needs to be voted each one Rd. in each Rd.
- 30:51not in the Hall of Fame. Yeah, he's petty.
- 30:53No, players need to players definitely need to be involved
- 30:57in some in some, because we're the we're we're the ones who
- 30:59have to go against these bastards every day.
- 31:02So. And I, and I think too, one
- 31:03thing like I was involved obviously with our union, like
- 31:07I, I was, I never wanted, I was the head one year and then I was
- 31:11like, oh, this, that's too many phone calls.
- 31:13And then I was like back up on the committee or whatever.
- 31:15So, but you can be on every phone call.
- 31:17You don't have to be your Rep for your team, yes, but I think
- 31:20if they if they do create a committee like that, I think
- 31:24there needs to be you've had to had served in some capacity just
- 31:29because you kind of understand it.
- 31:30And these are the guys we were competing against.
- 31:32Like I would, I could have probably made a couple more
- 31:35million if I didn't give up homers to Nelson Cruz and all
- 31:37these other guys that run the. Courts gave him up to Nelson.
- 31:40He was 1, so was Milky. Cabrera couldn't get that guy
- 31:42out. Yeah.
- 31:45Yeah, well, yeah, my last bag of balls.
- 31:50I'm going to throw in a baseball conspiracy theory, which I know
- 31:54Jabba and I for sure would agree on.
- 31:56My dog wants your Pussycat I. Don't think that's a conspiracy.
- 32:00Theory. Probably a fair assessment, but
- 32:04I got a Rob Manfred baseball all right.
- 32:07I know where this is going. You have his DNA on it.
- 32:10It's already probably toxic. I don't know if it does, it's a
- 32:14little gluey and we can't. Have sounds good.
- 32:18But in recent years, obviously we know from 2019 to 2022, we've
- 32:25had a lot of vocal players come out, specifically Justin
- 32:29Verlander accusing the MLB of juiced baseballs to increase
- 32:34home runs. They wanted to engage the fans
- 32:39more, but really it was citing a surge in homers.
- 32:44A site like Judges 62 and 2022 research suggested that MLB used
- 32:50inconsistent balls. Despite a bunch of denials.
- 32:53Studies showed different variations in ball seam height,
- 32:57which I have a Rob Manfred ball in my hand and I do have a Bud
- 33:00Ceiling ball somewhere else where when placed behind the
- 33:04back of everyday pictures you could clearly tell the
- 33:08difference. OK Lance Mccullers did it live
- 33:10on TV, but one the seems one felt like a cue ball and one
- 33:16felt like a baseball. OK, do fans appreciate the more
- 33:22home runs? What does that do for everyday
- 33:26fans? Because as pitchers, Java and I
- 33:28know for sure the baseballs are 100% juice.
- 33:30Can I absolutely can I answer this first?
- 33:33Look at the balls slipping out of my hand now and like it's,
- 33:35you know. Do you know why they're doing
- 33:37this? You know why baseball is doing
- 33:39this? I have an idea what is.
- 33:42Your what's your argument? Fantasy sports.
- 33:44That's what it is, people. There's so much money being
- 33:47thrown out when it comes to fantasy sports and and how much
- 33:51people are investing into it and they're everybody.
- 33:53They're ridiculous, dude. There's so much money.
- 33:56This number up and 2019, there were 6776 home runs, all right,
- 34:02and 2015, five, 1215. It's changed the whole game.
- 34:08It changed pitching strategies. It saves swing philosophies and
- 34:12I think it was for the TV ratings, but go ahead.
- 34:14No, I think. It for sure was to produce
- 34:16offense because the pitchers were outspacing the hitting by a
- 34:19long shot and so they had to try and equalize the games.
- 34:25TV. Ratings take away stick and.
- 34:31I don't I don't think it has anything to do with TV ratings.
- 34:35I don't think it has anything for boosting any of the stuff
- 34:39that you're saying. I think it has everything to do
- 34:40when it comes to fantasy sports and how much money these the
- 34:43league is making off these players.
- 34:46They're listen, if Aaron Judge is hitting three home runs in a
- 34:49game or some guy that you've never even heard of hits three
- 34:53home runs in a game and has almost a cycle and your, your
- 34:56fantasy team is bringing in this guy money off a draft Kings or
- 35:01FanDuel and the league's getting a piece of it, then the league
- 35:05is happy. They're taking, they're making
- 35:07billions and billions of dollars to draft Kings and sports
- 35:10betting. So this is helping sports
- 35:13betting. So if there's more home runs,
- 35:15more offensive numbers that are being driven up, there's more
- 35:19money to be made. And that's what these players
- 35:21are doing. They're making more money.
- 35:23The players are making more money and the league is making
- 35:26enough money for fans that are not interested in watching the
- 35:29games on television to go and watch the games and watch these
- 35:32home runs and triples and these balls going over the fence.
- 35:36So I think it has everything to do with fantasy and sports.
- 35:39I would say, I would say sports betting more so than fantasy
- 35:42just the same. I mean, you can lie.
- 35:44Well, fantasy since sports betting.
- 35:46It's on FanDuel. It's on their, their, their.
- 35:49But you can bet every pitch of baseball.
- 35:51You can bet every single pitch. You can sit at a sports book and
- 35:55bet me like this is a ball air strike on every single pitch.
- 35:59I think seeing that makes people engage more like 01 nothing
- 36:03game. I love it because I'm on the
- 36:06good side of it from the pitching.
- 36:08But I understand and I think you're right goody because
- 36:11trying to get the casual fan where I think it does because if
- 36:16you don't have TV deals and nobody's watching, you're not
- 36:18going to get extensions and and be able to pay some of these
- 36:21contracts. So I think.
- 36:22For most our money. Yeah.
- 36:24So I think there's a little bit of all of it.
- 36:26You went from now banning and do you think this came about just
- 36:30to your point, Errol, when you talk about the fantasy and the
- 36:35the sports books and all that, Do you think now it came to this
- 36:39because now they're making so much money from FanDuel
- 36:42Barstool, DraftKings, all there's 1900 of them.
- 36:46It's every other commercial. Do you think they're like, well,
- 36:49now if we're promoting it, the dudes that did it, we got to,
- 36:52you know, kind of say, yeah, it's different times, but we got
- 36:55to let them. In since since New York became
- 36:58legal when it comes to sports betting, do you know what it's
- 37:00brought in in the last four years?
- 37:03You're talking about stupid money, you're talking about four
- 37:05and a half billion dollars and baseball is getting a piece of
- 37:08that. So and that's just here in New
- 37:10York. That's just here in New York.
- 37:12It's incredible how much money the league is making and and
- 37:15why, because people are betting on these teams and these
- 37:19players. It's all about sports betting.
- 37:21It's all about fantasy sports and what it's going to bring in
- 37:24when it comes. Nobody cares about the team
- 37:26anymore. I say this all the time.
- 37:28We grew up rooting for teams. Now you're rooting for players
- 37:32because you want to see Steph Curry score 40 and get 1010
- 37:35assists and and seven rebounds. And did you hear David Portnoy,
- 37:40Dave Portnoy bet on the Preakness and bet on Caitlin
- 37:44Clark getting a triple double and just one spending what I
- 37:48think it was like like 50,000. He made like 350K over the
- 37:52weekend off of a race a picking a winner and picking Caitlin
- 37:58Clark to to get a triple double. He made $350,000 off of a little
- 38:04a bet that that he only put $50,000 into.
- 38:06Think about that. Think about that.
- 38:09What does? This do to the game of baseball.
- 38:11Now we're in the juice ball era like we're in a steroid area.
- 38:14Is the game, Is the game in a better place now?
- 38:17No than it was No 10 years ago. No.
- 38:21No. So as a fan, did you rather
- 38:23watch the game now or would you rather watch the game 10 years?
- 38:25Ago I don't want to watch the game until.
- 38:27The playoffs. The same aspect the the
- 38:30conspiracy theory of talking about different balls from
- 38:33different commissioners. Did you see the 1-2 where they
- 38:35said if you get a ball in New York and cut it in half and look
- 38:38at the cork and look at the the how the ball is wrapped and you
- 38:42do it from somewhere else and they're not the same?
- 38:45Let's see now that's. One of the really bad Mets teams
- 38:48tested that new. York's a band box as it is,
- 38:50dude. Freaking freaky and Tommy poop
- 38:54can put a ball on his butt and shoot one out from He probably
- 38:57could play over right field after he no he could.
- 39:00After he sends you his $3 to your Mexican food.
- 39:03After he sends his $3 from Save your tears to your GoFundMe.
- 39:08Or or after he eats freaking Nathan's cat and dog.
- 39:11Poop is a grumpy old man. Yeah, and he'll wash it down
- 39:14with Nathan's favorite gin and tonic.
- 39:17Yeah, who end up thinking one in the stink.
- 39:22To me, I just think it's to me, I just think you should just
- 39:25leave the sports the way they are.
- 39:26You shouldn't let politics and you shouldn't let gambling
- 39:30dictate it. I know that this is going to
- 39:32happen. This is the way that it's going,
- 39:34but at the end of the day now you're ruining people's career
- 39:36numbers, specifically guys that go over and play in like London
- 39:40and Europe. They all came back and said,
- 39:42dude, the balls were juice. Why were they?
- 39:43Just because they're trying to grow the sport in Europe or
- 39:46London or whatever series. Playing.
- 39:49Guys would give up freaking duck farts that were home runs or hit
- 39:53150 off the bat and when they can, I talked to numerous guys
- 39:57and they're like, yeah, we made, you know, whatever, 50 grand to
- 40:00go travel and play over there. But I also gave up four home
- 40:02runs. And the balls.
- 40:03Were absolutely juice so to me it's ruining guys numbers To me,
- 40:08if there's no place in it, they just need to get it back to
- 40:10where it needs to be where. You ever you ever felt the Home
- 40:13Run Derby balls like All Star game balls?
- 40:16Yes, they're way harder. Dude, it's unbelievable.
- 40:18That's why. Like if I get a ball back, I
- 40:21don't necessarily like I'll scratch some seams just because
- 40:24you'll get like new ones that are kind of dusty and you got a
- 40:27little sweat. So I'll.
- 40:27See the worst? And also, I always kept my
- 40:30thumbnail a little long and I'd look right at the umpire.
- 40:34Those balls in the in the Derby are way harder and it's stupid
- 40:38when you get a hard one. I throw that, I throw it right
- 40:40back in. No chance.
- 40:42Yeah. That's the night for Carl if
- 40:44they can hit a pickleball out of the Yankee stanky stadium.
- 40:47Pulled it out of my ham. It's not that short Carl, come
- 40:49on now. As long as she's using dude
- 40:51wipes and taking care of my 2 hole I'm good.
- 40:55I don't know, but that's my thoughts and I'm going with it.
- 41:00I felt the difference in baseballs.
- 41:01I know they were juiced. I gave up a lot of home runs and
- 41:05a lot of. Is that the only reason why you
- 41:07gave up a lot of home runs because they were juiced?
- 41:11Most likely, yeah, 100. Percent I love you goody you
- 41:13guys I. Was too nasty not to.
- 41:15I I love the 10. 20 when he came around.
- 41:19I love it you guys. 2020 came around and I was I held my
- 41:24ground. All right, I'm here.
- 41:25All right, ladies and gentlemen, we have the return of the tick.
- 41:29Ladies and gentlemen, as we call this tick tack.
- 41:33No, Dick, Dick. Morris right in the butt water.
- 41:39We get the prizes cheap because they're stolen, no?
- 41:45No, no, no, no, no, no. Now here's your host, the Tick
- 41:51himself, Owen the Tick, Ragnar. You know.
- 41:59I want to say something. I want to say something before
- 42:02your questions ready because I want to say something before I
- 42:05cut everything. Speedy, when I clap my my my
- 42:08fingers, I expect you to look at me, not look at your screen and
- 42:11pretend that I'm not here. OK, just so you know, go ahead,
- 42:15go ahead. I'm sorry.
- 42:17It's just annoying. I just said I wasn't prepared
- 42:19for this segment. So.
- 42:20No, no, no. You're just one of us this time.
- 42:23You're just one of us. Owen.
- 42:24I thought it would be fun for you to see what it's like what
- 42:28you do to us. Wendy, I'll hop the team out.
- 42:32I'll hop the boys. As a member of the crew, so
- 42:35speedy. You got your AI ready we're.
- 42:37Going to hand it off to you my friend with the first question
- 42:42for tic tac, no. I farted.
- 42:44We'll start in the NBA. Name two of the three either
- 42:48former or current New York Knicks players that were on the
- 42:51OK C Thunder roster the last time they made the Western
- 42:54Conference Finals on in 2015, 2016.
- 42:57So each of you get multiple guesses for this.
- 42:59Say that again. So two of the three either
- 43:02former or current Knicks players that are on the OK C Thunder
- 43:06roster The last time they made the Western Conference Finals in
- 43:092015. They're on the Knicks now that.
- 43:13Either a Foreman or former or current.
- 43:16So there is one on the Knicks now, and then there's two that
- 43:18are used to be Knicks. And you said they were on the
- 43:21Thunder? Team in 2015.
- 43:23In 2015 when they lost to the Warriors in the in the Western
- 43:26Conference finals. That last team.
- 43:29This is another one of those like name the second pitch of
- 43:32the 2003 World Series. Who is it That could be on the
- 43:35Knicks, though. Wait a second.
- 43:38I was thinking right now. There's one active and two.
- 43:42Not even letting myself think about yet.
- 43:46Josh. Hart no I so no Josh.
- 43:52I got to look at the roster. Dude the reason why I said Josh
- 43:54Hart it was 10 years ago. The only reason why I said Josh
- 43:56Hart cuz he played for every other team was before he went to
- 43:59do. I get one guess or two guesses.
- 44:01You guys could get 2 guesses each.
- 44:04OK great. So I've had this feeling like
- 44:08like, wasn't Melo the 6th man? No, Mellow was not on that team.
- 44:14Mellow. Mellow was him after a couple
- 44:16years later. Damn it.
- 44:21All right. All right, you're going back.
- 44:22The one that's on there now is bothering.
- 44:24Me, I don't even know. There's another one.
- 44:29I'm guessing that's that's retired and I think was just
- 44:31fired as an executive in the league.
- 44:34Look, I'm just gonna look down the I'm looking at their roster
- 44:36right now and the only guy that I could think of is.
- 44:40Can't get a read on Speedy? 40 year old PJ Tucker.
- 44:43Nope. That's a great guess.
- 44:45I forgot they have PJ 'cause he's 40 years old.
- 44:48It would have to be 1 of the older guys, right?
- 44:50So who's the oldest guy on the Knicks besides PJ Tucker?
- 44:53That's what I'm. That's why I was trying to think
- 44:55about. Is it Cameron?
- 44:57Payne. It is Cameron Payne.
- 44:58I was going to that. Was his rookie year.
- 45:01That was his rookie. Year, Owen.
- 45:03Nice he was. 21 when he was on that team.
- 45:06All right, so I'm going to give my second guess.
- 45:08Is it Landry Fields? No, damn it.
- 45:13All right, I'm out. So say the question again,
- 45:16because I think this is. So, so they got the, they got
- 45:18the current player that's campaign.
- 45:20So there are two former Knicks that were on that OKC Thunder
- 45:25roster in 2015, 2016. Felton.
- 45:32No, not Raymond Felton. He was another one that played
- 45:37for everybody, too. No doubt.
- 45:39At the end there, yeah. Let's see.
- 45:45So scoops, I believe you have two guesses left.
- 45:48Java you got. To if I looked at the two, if I
- 45:50looked at the 2015 OKC Thunder right now, I can.
- 45:54No, I don't think you actually made a guess yet.
- 45:56Java. I don't think you did.
- 45:57Oh, problem is, I don't even know who played on the Knicks.
- 46:00So because they've been so trash for so long that.
- 46:03It's an excellent point. I don't even know.
- 46:06So I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go.
- 46:10I'm gonna pick. Did they still have cancer on
- 46:14the team? Man, I'm sorry.
- 46:19Freedom. Are you guessing that?
- 46:23Andre Roberson. I'm going to see Andre
- 46:25Robertson. Scoop So are you guessing
- 46:26cancer? Cancer.
- 46:27Yep, that is. That's correct.
- 46:28I forgot it's cancer. I got the other one.
- 46:32I'm looking at the roster right now.
- 46:34We'll get the roster. Right now, so who is?
- 46:36So we got him. Already got it.
- 46:37You got he got it. Who's the last?
- 46:39One's very obscure. Errol, you got it.
- 46:41Steve Novak. No.
- 46:43He was on, he played for. That was my next.
- 46:45Guess, Steve. Steve Novak.
- 46:47Is it Serge Ibaka? No, you.
- 46:49Know the Knicks? No, the last one, The last one
- 46:51was obscure. It was Nazir Muhammad, but.
- 46:54Steve. Nazir.
- 46:56Steve Novak played for the Knicks.
- 46:58He was terrible for the Knicks, one of the guys, the Knicks.
- 47:01Speedy, that's another one right there.
- 47:03That ended up being a backup center.
- 47:04For Novak, Novak played. Novak played for both teams, so
- 47:09Kyle Singler was on that team. Now look at him the.
- 47:12Worst Kyle Singler was on a Knick ever the.
- 47:14Knicks gave so many backup centers starters money like
- 47:18every year without fail they'd like waste a four year contract
- 47:22on a terrible can't even be in the league Center for like. 20
- 47:26years, it'd be like that. Next question, Speedy.
- 47:31Let's go. Speedy, we are going to take the
- 47:34win on that one. So Owen, since you are not half
- 47:38of that right, we're going to give this one to you.
- 47:40Welcome back to the game Where we going?
- 47:42Just center centered up. Center.
- 47:46Middle. Owen.
- 47:47The. Tick Dickner.
- 47:51All right. So busy all day today.
- 47:54All right, so I mentioned there's a couple Subway Series
- 47:57ones on here. We'll go to that one first.
- 47:59So which again, you can each get multiple guesses who hit the
- 48:02first grand Slams for both teams in Subway Series history.
- 48:06I don't even. Know Babe Ruth?
- 48:12The Mets did not exist. When Babe Ruth played no Subway
- 48:15series started started in the 1990. 7 was the.
- 48:18First year of the subway. Series the New York Mets did not
- 48:21exist in when Babe Ruth was playing.
- 48:24He prayed against Grand Slam again so.
- 48:26Do we get like a Yankees guess and a Mets guess?
- 48:29You guys get multiple guesses whatever combination you want to
- 48:31do. 11 I know for sure is Piazza.
- 48:35Piazza's the Mets one good. Job.
- 48:36Just the one I was going to pick.
- 48:37Well. That that's that's good that
- 48:42that was an obvious 1. So then.
- 48:43The Yankees. Great 9798 era, right we're.
- 48:47Going but I think the Yankees. I think the Yankees is an
- 48:51obscure 1 though. I'm gonna go not super obscure.
- 48:54I'm gonna say maybe this was a Tino thing.
- 48:57Let's go with Tino Martinez, all right?
- 49:02You know, I was thinking Godzilla, but that's a little
- 49:05too late. No, actually it wasn't on the
- 49:07team yet. That's a deck he met so.
- 49:10It happened when in 97. No, it didn't happen in 97.
- 49:13It was just the first Grand Slam ever in the rivalry.
- 49:16It wasn't just 97, it just that's when that's when
- 49:19Interleaf play started. The problem with the Yankees is
- 49:22they they they've had different players besides the core
- 49:25players, they've had different players for a long, long time.
- 49:28So, by the way, Carl is incorrect and it's not Bernie
- 49:30Williams. No, I don't think it's Bernie
- 49:33Williams. I know that's a good guess
- 49:34though. That's why I was like, he
- 49:36didn't, he didn't ask this question because it would be
- 49:38like one of the obvious ones. It's going to be something crazy
- 49:42like Glen Allen Hill or something.
- 49:44Like 1 dude that was like half a year like.
- 49:47Louis Soho. Jose Canseco.
- 49:50That was Louis was done by then. All right, seriously, I'll make
- 49:56I'll make my second guess. We already had the Mets fest, so
- 49:59it has to be Yankee and it had to be in the 98 ERA.
- 50:02We already got a couple of guesses.
- 50:06Grand Slam. Let's go with.
- 50:18Was. Nope all.
- 50:22Right, I'm out. OK, I got all right.
- 50:27Would it be God? I'm thinking like, he asked, was
- 50:32Bellinger's dad on the team at the time?
- 50:35Yeah, I think he was in that era.
- 50:37He absolutely was. He was on at least one of those.
- 50:43Champions. Yeah, that's what I was
- 50:44thinking. What's his name?
- 50:45I'll give it with my second guess.
- 50:48Clay, Clay. Clay Bellinger.
- 50:51Nope. Ah Dang, I'm out.
- 50:57I wonder if it's his. What's his face that came up for
- 50:59the hot month in September? Cheryl, you're awfully quiet
- 51:05over there. I don't.
- 51:05Know if they did that interleague play that late?
- 51:08Back. I'll just take a guess just for
- 51:09the sake of taking a guess. They did it earlier.
- 51:11Back you ready, Scott Brochus? Nope.
- 51:16What a love, Brochus. And it starts.
- 51:22What a great name pull. Not they're just throwing
- 51:25throwing hands. My favorite from those teams
- 51:29was. All right, Speedy, just give us
- 51:32the answer. Well, you guys diverted from it,
- 51:33You, you mentioned it before, it wasn't that came out.
- 51:35So what's the answer? See.
- 51:39I was like, what year was it, 2000?
- 51:42Three, the first. Yankees, 2000.
- 51:45Three, I was the. Yankees Grand Slam in the subway
- 51:48and. He said no, and I was.
- 51:49Like I didn't say no, I never said no.
- 51:51We we didn't realize that it would take him six years to hit
- 51:54the fucking. Yeah, he didn't.
- 51:55He didn't say because I knew because.
- 51:57All I said was I started in 97. I didn't say it was both in 97.
- 52:01Yeah, I think the 97 threw us off.
- 52:04Goody, we're going to listen to you next time and then yell at
- 52:08you when you're wrong so. Dude, I'm so smart.
- 52:12You guys are just not on my level dude.
- 52:14Gotcha. Where are we going, Speedy?
- 52:17Let's go bottom left. I think I'm lost with the LSU
- 52:20degree. All right, let's go to the next
- 52:25question. All right, I've got to pick up
- 52:26the pace a little bit, Speedy all.
- 52:28Right, let's go to some. So obviously we know about Mika
- 52:30Rotnen's big pace. He has nine goals already this
- 52:32postseason. Who?
- 52:34Give me that chicken Curry. Who has the Dallas Stars record
- 52:37for a single postseason with 13? What was the question?
- 52:40Madonna. The.
- 52:41Dallas Stars record for most goals in a single postseason
- 52:44with 13. It is not Mike Madonna.
- 52:46Damn. Stars.
- 52:49I'm out on this. I don't even know.
- 52:51Is this hockey or is this soccer?
- 52:53Is this? Hockey.
- 52:54I don't have any soccer. Questions.
- 52:56I don't have any soccer questions, Goody.
- 52:59Can I relinquish my pick? Like I said, old pick to like
- 53:01fish or something. Are we talking about bowling?
- 53:05Oh my God. I.
- 53:05Almost just. Threw up it Was it whole?
- 53:08It was 1 post season. He had thirteen goals.
- 53:12I can't think of the guy's first name.
- 53:14Something whole. No, it wasn't whole.
- 53:16No are. You talking about Brett Hall?
- 53:17It's not him. Yeah, I love Brett.
- 53:20He did play for Dallas. I'm talking about for.
- 53:22Dallas. Saint Francois.
- 53:25What time, speedy? So, so the actually the player
- 53:28just retired kind of recently. Yeah, Francois, no.
- 53:34What's his last name? I can't give his.
- 53:37That's it. Same.
- 53:38Same Pierre Francois. I can't give his.
- 53:40Last name. I forgot his name.
- 53:42There's two guys that I could I could predict it was, but I
- 53:45can't remember their names. Was he a captain?
- 53:50Was the guy's name. He was.
- 53:51Was he a captain of the. Team I will find out.
- 53:52I'm pretty sure he was at least an assistant though.
- 53:56I think he was a big power winger if they think.
- 54:00It's not Jamie. It wasn't.
- 54:02It wasn't Jamie. It's not Jamie.
- 54:04Bet it's not. The player's not active right
- 54:06now, OK. Was it new and dyke?
- 54:09Nope, but he was second. Joe New and Dyke was second.
- 54:12That's a good guess. Java.
- 54:16I know he went off one year. Yes he did.
- 54:18He had, he had 12 he's #2. On the that's why I always
- 54:21remembered him, because his last name.
- 54:24He Daikin. Yes, he was an assistant captain
- 54:26when he was there at this point. Thank you though.
- 54:33I don't know dude, I got nothing.
- 54:35All right, I will let Scoop relinquish his guest to fish for
- 54:37one more guess. There we go.
- 54:39Fish. Oh geez.
- 54:42He was traded to Dallas and I remember and he was, I'm pretty
- 54:46sure in my mind. Was it a defenseman?
- 54:48Speedy? No.
- 54:48I can't tell you that. It wasn't a defenseman.
- 54:52You can't tell me that. Oh no.
- 54:57But how? Am I supposed to read that
- 54:59because I have this vague memory of a former Ranger?
- 55:04Was he? Was he a Ranger before he was a
- 55:06*? He was not.
- 55:07And when is Stanley Cup with a Ranger?
- 55:08He was not a Ranger, ever. I would have liked him.
- 55:12Oh. Lord.
- 55:13It wasn't ever a rager. So come on, let's just go
- 55:15speedy. Let's go.
- 55:16I slowed down. I got.
- 55:17Ovechkin No. National Vechkin play for
- 55:20watching this all quick God speedy.
- 55:22Yeah, the answer, Errol, you're kind of on the right track.
- 55:24Joe Pavelski is Pavelski. Oh, same.
- 55:28No, we bag and. He played, he Joe Pavelski was a
- 55:31Great American goal scorer he played for.
- 55:33Saint Louis on the. Rangers no sharks.
- 55:35No, we want, we want to take Rickner back.
- 55:37His questions are Lily. Pavelski also played for Saint
- 55:39Louis are. Kind of hard.
- 55:41In his career. Where we going, Speedy?
- 55:43Top left will go this time. How many wipes did Shoeless Joe
- 55:48Jackson use when he wiped his asshole in 1919?
- 55:50I don't know, Speedy. All right, other questions he
- 55:54asked. All right, back to the NBA.
- 55:56We'll go for this one. Who was the Knicks leading
- 55:58scorer in their playoff series versus the Pacers in 2000 and
- 56:02the second leading scorer for the Timberwolves in O4?
- 56:05The leading scorer for the Knicks that year was free.
- 56:07Well. Everywhere's correct.
- 56:09That's the answer. I said speed roll immediately.
- 56:12I remember when he was over on the Timberwolves after that.
- 56:14I was going to say it too, What the fuck?
- 56:17I know, but I went, yeah, well, I was going to.
- 56:18Pick his roster, enlarge my You cut me off and you and you say
- 56:23you win. Yeah.
- 56:25Cuz this Oh, you got to get the second guy.
- 56:27You lose bro. Nemo, you got to get the second
- 56:29guy, Sorry. You know what we're going to do?
- 56:33Did we get the second guy? No, no, it was that.
- 56:35No, it was just that guy with two teams it.
- 56:38Wasn't too quiet. Gotcha.
- 56:39Well. Where do we want to go?
- 56:43Because now I'm going to. Group I like to go up your ass,
- 56:45so stick my name right at the tail end of your ass.
- 56:48OK, not surprising. Arrow and butt stuff again.
- 56:51Here we go. Yeah, he's one of Nathan's
- 56:54Famous butt plugs. All right, so.
- 56:57Yeah. Root together?
- 56:58Where? Where are we going?
- 57:01You're going to the Huskers. We're trying to.
- 57:02Cut block speedy. Block speedy.
- 57:05Yeah, we're trying to win this game.
- 57:07Right over there on. The Husky any day now.
- 57:10Just move. Sorry I had to do the stupid
- 57:13crap that you have to do. All right, there it is.
- 57:16We have blocked it by covering the.
- 57:18All right. What's the next question?
- 57:19All right, in honor of Owens favorite quarterback signing a
- 57:22big contract with the 49ers, Brock Purdy is one of two Mr.
- 57:27Irrelevance in the 21st century who's made a Pro Bowl.
- 57:30The other one was a kicker from the 2009 draft.
- 57:33Who would be? Who was that?
- 57:36Shitting me? Aye aye Taker from 2009.
- 57:43Yep. Another one that just retired
- 57:44recently, I believe two years ago, three years ago, something
- 57:48like that. Yeah, he's the one.
- 57:49That's he's the one that screwed me with that Chicago game.
- 57:53No, he wasn't. Nah, not Crosby.
- 57:56And no, it's not who you're thinking of either.
- 57:58That was Robbie Gold, and it's not that he's not the answer.
- 58:02I don't know why I have this name.
- 58:03It just popped in my head. I have no idea why.
- 58:06Oh, Nate Kading. Nope.
- 58:10All right. Who played for San Francisco?
- 58:13No, he didn't play for San Francisco.
- 58:14He was Mr. Irrelevant to pick. He was a 2009.
- 58:19The last pick. Last pick of the draft, he
- 58:21didn't play. He never played for the 49ers.
- 58:23He played for three different teams, I believe.
- 58:24He played for Tampa. He did play for Tampa I.
- 58:27Don't know his. Name.
- 58:28I remember this guy, the kicker that the.
- 58:32Some kicker. Is it he was, he was like a
- 58:34Mexican kicker, right? He was a Mexican kicker.
- 58:36He was a soccer player. He's got one guy that got
- 58:39drafted last in the draft. I can't think of his name.
- 58:42I don't know his name. All right, so I'll give you I'll
- 58:44give you another hint. He won a Super Bowl with Tampa.
- 58:46Scoops is right about that. And he was drafted by a team
- 58:49that also has won a Super Bowl recently.
- 58:52Eagles, right? Wait, so he was with that Tampa?
- 58:56Team So he won with Tampa. He did not win with this other
- 58:59team, but he was drafted by this other team that has won a Super
- 59:02Bowl within the last five years. I don't.
- 59:04Know and you said he retired, just retired.
- 59:06He retired recently. Let me find the exact year he
- 59:09retired. I think it was 2022.
- 59:11We're spending too long on this. Let's let's go.
- 59:14I honestly don't know. We don't know.
- 59:15Let's go. So Jabba.
- 59:18He retired in YEAH, 2027. They don't know.
- 59:21Go. Who is it?
- 59:23Anyone else have a quick guess? No go.
- 59:26All right, it was Ryan. Suck up.
- 59:27Yeah, like they're going to get that suck.
- 59:29Up. Suck up.
- 59:30Nobody knows. I know who that was.
- 59:34Even Call is getting it wrong. He's not cheating or any of that
- 59:37stuff. He's trying to.
- 59:38Nobody. Grammatical, but I thought he
- 59:41got drafted. Nobody knew it was.
- 59:43Suck up. I couldn't think of it either.
- 59:45Speedy, who do we got? All right, let's go bottom
- 59:49right. You guys had no idea that was
- 59:51sucker. Get out of here.
- 59:54I knew who sucked up was. I said swar ho.
- 59:56I said swar ho. I've heard the name.
- 59:59Of course we've heard the name. We were never getting that
- 1:00:02right. OK, Never.
- 1:00:04All right. Speedy All right, so this one,
- 1:00:05this one's for the win. I win you guys.
- 1:00:09We went the middle row. I went with the bottom row.
- 1:00:10Spit. It out, We'll go to Subway
- 1:00:12Series again. Who is the only player to hit 90
- 1:00:14or more home runs for both the Yankees and the Mets in their
- 1:00:17career? For both.
- 1:00:21For both teams. Or combined.
- 1:00:23Nope, both Darrell. Strawberry.
- 1:00:24Both teams he hit 90 or more home runs.
- 1:00:26Yeah, I'd say it, Cody. It is not Darrell Strawberry.
- 1:00:30Darrell Strawberry. Nope, I don't.
- 1:00:33Think he was with the Yankees long enough the.
- 1:00:35Yankees. Those Good guess.
- 1:00:38And had 90 homers for both teams.
- 1:00:40He's. The only player with 90 or more
- 1:00:42home runs for both teams. What the freak who played for
- 1:00:49both teams long enough to have the.
- 1:00:52I have an idea. You ready?
- 1:00:53All right, Willie Randolph? Nope.
- 1:00:58That's a good guess. I like Willie.
- 1:01:01All right, how about Robin Ventura?
- 1:01:03Nope. Damn.
- 1:01:06Speeding your mom? Come on.
- 1:01:08What do you mean? Was that a sound bite or was
- 1:01:11that you just laughed? No, that was him.
- 1:01:13That was him just. Saying smell my ass.
- 1:01:15That was a sound bite. Hold on.
- 1:01:18Did I? Did I play with him?
- 1:01:21Did you play? With him, I believe.
- 1:01:23Yes, I believe you did. Oh, it's Curtis Granderson.
- 1:01:26You are correct. The grandy man can.
- 1:01:30Way to go, Jabba. I was just trying to think who
- 1:01:33played for both of them long enough to.
- 1:01:34Get my dog wants your Pussycat. Yeah.
- 1:01:38Didn't Granderson have a year where he had like 30 homers and
- 1:01:4131 RBIs? Ram Jam with the Mets.
- 1:01:44Yeah, and then he had one year where he hit like almost 50.
- 1:01:47Yeah, that was Aladdin. That was, that was.
- 1:01:49The first year I ever did fantasy baseball.
- 1:01:51Bagel Hole I. Remember that well.
- 1:01:53And my my brother, I think my. Brother, I'm putting you on a
- 1:01:55leash. Now we're gonna.
- 1:01:57Go and win, what a great job by us.
- 1:02:03Breaking news. The best?
- 1:02:04Sweetie Owen. Glory hole.
- 1:02:08Although we love speedy, we need the tick back to tic tac no it
- 1:02:13up. Oh, he's ticking and he's
- 1:02:15tacking and he's a very tacky person.
- 1:02:18Don't worry. I got some 1820 baseball
- 1:02:20questions coming your way. I hope you have a nice pink
- 1:02:23dress and a nice wig because that's coming up.
- 1:02:26Ladies and gentlemen, we're not forgetting.
- 1:02:28When is that coming on? A Jabba?
- 1:02:30You'll have to send you some some whiskey from your company
- 1:02:32so we could sulk. The Brock Purdy contract.
- 1:02:35For sure. Oh, man.
- 1:02:38All right, ladies and gentlemen, our next segment actually,
- 1:02:43actually do we. Yeah, we're going right into a
- 1:02:46call to the pen. It's done, I think.
- 1:02:49You can throw a strike on this. Pitch, it's not going to be my
- 1:02:51John it. Feels like jello right now.
- 1:02:53Just get it over the plate I. Want him to swing?
- 1:02:54Last time I did that the guy hit one that hasn't landed yet or a
- 1:02:57call to the pen. OK, guys.
- 1:03:01So this is a call to the pen. We're going to bring Goody and
- 1:03:05Jabba to the forefront a little bit and ask them some questions
- 1:03:09that are really related to pitch in this situation, pitching, but
- 1:03:14bullpen in general. But Goody, you brought this up
- 1:03:16to me earlier today and it was in line with injuries in the
- 1:03:20league. And I thought we would just kind
- 1:03:22of talk about it generally and not just how teams deal with
- 1:03:28guys that get hurt. You know, not just older
- 1:03:30players, but especially younger players as they're coming into
- 1:03:33the league and younger pitchers specifically, right?
- 1:03:36You see a lot of innings caps. Everyone knows the magic number
- 1:03:39of 100 pitches for a long time was like this first like
- 1:03:43restrictor plate that they, you know, organizations put on
- 1:03:47starting pitching. It used to be guys like, I mean,
- 1:03:49Al Leiter famously went what, 700 pitches one game for the for
- 1:03:53the Yankees or for the Mets or whatever it was against the
- 1:03:56Yankees, right? It was just, you know, guys,
- 1:03:58that's for yo on Santana famously with a no hitter and
- 1:04:02then the arms gone right after that.
- 1:04:04We all know that happened, you know, kind of crazy.
- 1:04:08So they had the 100 pitches, but now it's gotten a lot farther
- 1:04:11than that. And you guys know better than I
- 1:04:13do. And I wanted to ask you not just
- 1:04:16like the things in Java, famously, you know, we know all
- 1:04:19about the Java rules that they've tried to put on you for
- 1:04:23this reason, trying to balance health with competitiveness both
- 1:04:28short term and long term as a franchise.
- 1:04:30And I think we've seen what not to do in certain situations,
- 1:04:35unfortunately for some of us. And also I think you guys have
- 1:04:41probably really good formed opinions and from your
- 1:04:43experiences on how you think the team should do this.
- 1:04:47So I wanted to reach out to you guys about this in our call to
- 1:04:51the pen Java. What do you think?
- 1:04:55For me, I, I don't think everybody is the same.
- 1:04:58I mean, you, you look at guys who they said had perfect
- 1:05:02mechanics, you know, perfect. And Mark Pryor and Steven
- 1:05:05Schrosberg, what happened? They both blew up.
- 1:05:06They said Tim Lindscombe had the worst mechanics of all time.
- 1:05:09He goes and wins 2 Cy Youngs and in World Series and really,
- 1:05:13really stayed fairly healthy for most of his career.
- 1:05:15So I think it's an individual basis because, and, and really,
- 1:05:19if you look at it, it's like, OK, innings pitches, how like,
- 1:05:23how are you going to do it? Or we're going to keep your
- 1:05:25innings down. Well, in, in some cases it
- 1:05:28doesn't work. You're either going to blow out
- 1:05:30or you're not. And it's why would you not let
- 1:05:33your guy pitch to his ability, even if he's going because you
- 1:05:37can't predict it. I mean, all these all these
- 1:05:39analytical geeks that don't know anything about anything and be
- 1:05:43like, well, if he throws his pitches, 18% is increase and
- 1:05:48blah, blah, blah. Well, yeah, but that doesn't
- 1:05:51mean he's going to. So I, I think it's a case to
- 1:05:54case basis on maybe previous injury, if there's been previous
- 1:05:59surgeries. I just don't think it's 100
- 1:06:02pitches or hey, he can only throw 150 innings if he's if
- 1:06:07he's dealing. You think the Pirates are going
- 1:06:10to shut down Paul's schemes? No, like it makes zero sense to
- 1:06:15me. And I make sure it's sense to
- 1:06:17you but but it might long for long term for them which I don't
- 1:06:22always agree with. But you don't know how, You
- 1:06:24can't predict the future, dog. I understand.
- 1:06:27Like you can OK, say he throws this many pitches, this has
- 1:06:30happened to this guy, that it doesn't happen to everybody.
- 1:06:34This is true, but they're protecting their long term
- 1:06:36investment. Is that so?
- 1:06:37It's either win now and and put the players.
- 1:06:40First of all, they're not going to win now.
- 1:06:41He's had 33 starts, he's 14 and eight with a 21, and they fired
- 1:06:45their manager because of that. It ain't because he just went
- 1:06:48the other day 8. Innings 8.
- 1:06:50Innings 1. Run and lost with 9 punches.
- 1:06:54I know. They're not stopping him at 100
- 1:06:56pitches. Well, I understand, but my my
- 1:07:00thing is do they risk their potential long term investment
- 1:07:04for a win now scenario or do they just let him ride?
- 1:07:10And that's where that's where it that's where it comes into play.
- 1:07:13Now, if they start shutting them down like they did with
- 1:07:14Strasbourg, especially like come the postseason or even the lefty
- 1:07:21for Tampa and now he's with the Dodgers and he was with Tampa in
- 1:07:26the pussy and they shut him down at no, not glass.
- 1:07:29Now he's he won the Saiyan Snell Snell.
- 1:07:33Oh yeah, they shut him down after like 80 pitches in the in
- 1:07:36the 6th inning or whatever it was.
- 1:07:39When Cash took him out within, like, yeah, it was like 78
- 1:07:42pitches or something. Like that absolutely cruising
- 1:07:44and they took and yes, like why are you doing that?
- 1:07:48Leave him in there, Let him ride, let him go 100 pitches,
- 1:07:50110 pitches, whatever the case may be, but and that had a lot
- 1:07:55of backlash, not with not only within the baseball community,
- 1:07:59but he obviously was extremely pissed about that too.
- 1:08:02But but the front office is like, oh, let's take him out.
- 1:08:06You know? Well, you know they're.
- 1:08:08They're one of the biggest analytical teams that they're
- 1:08:10there are, but. I understand.
- 1:08:12No, Carl, I I agree with Carl. He's like they overused Pryor in
- 1:08:16wood. But I understand that what I
- 1:08:18think hurts more is the back and forth, like, OK, you can only
- 1:08:22throw this. So how am I supposed to be
- 1:08:23prepared to be a Garrett Cole? Garrett Cole never had an
- 1:08:27innings limit and he finally got hurt.
- 1:08:30What was it last year or the year before recently?
- 1:08:33Beginning of the year. But yeah, and so it took him
- 1:08:37that long. That doesn't happen to
- 1:08:40everybody. It's a case by case, by the way.
- 1:08:43Jabba, by the way, Jabba is right.
- 1:08:45Garrett Cole got hurt about a year ago and and that's why
- 1:08:49nobody wanted to sign him at the end of the season and why he
- 1:08:51brought back into the contract because he was already hurt.
- 1:08:54And the Yankees knew that and so did Garrett Cole.
- 1:08:56And then all of a sudden, the story came out this year before
- 1:08:59the season started so. He wasn't going anywhere.
- 1:09:02Anywhere. He's the.
- 1:09:02Yankee for. I know that now.
- 1:09:04He was drafted by the Yankees before he decided to go and play
- 1:09:08for you. What was it, USC?
- 1:09:10Right, UCLA. UCLA and then he went back in
- 1:09:13the draft and he was drafted by Pittsburgh.
- 1:09:15So yeah, with Bauer, yeah. But but teams also use like load
- 1:09:21management. They'll skip starts, they'll do
- 1:09:23that. They'll I don't.
- 1:09:24Do it. I don't like that because my
- 1:09:27body needs to be consistent so I can know what my body can and
- 1:09:31can't do now like. We are cut from a different
- 1:09:35cloth. Kids nowadays are like the kid
- 1:09:38was it Gilbert for Seattle's like 80 pitches.
- 1:09:40I'm done after 80 pitches or whatever it was.
- 1:09:42He said in one of his interviews.
- 1:09:43Like don't put me to 100 pitches.
- 1:09:45Like they just it's a little different that they're the way
- 1:09:47that they see the game is a very is drastically different from
- 1:09:50the game that we saw at where I played with Trevor Bauer, who
- 1:09:53would go 120 pitches every time or Corey Kluber that would get
- 1:09:56pitching to the 7th inning or CC Sabathia that would throw like
- 1:09:59that. And now it's like, it's very,
- 1:10:02it's very structured and it's all analytical matchups.
- 1:10:06Every, they have every number on and every single guy.
- 1:10:10And, and the third time through the lineup, Jabra Chamberlain is
- 1:10:14the bet the hitters are hitting 382 off of them and you're
- 1:10:16throwing a perfect game. But you're like, oh, you know,
- 1:10:19or your, whatever the case, perfect game a little different.
- 1:10:22That's a little drastic. But let's say you've given up
- 1:10:23one run and you're absolutely dominating.
- 1:10:25But that third time through the lineup, you flip it three times,
- 1:10:28you're they're hitting 380. They're going to go to the pen.
- 1:10:31It doesn't matter. That's the way that the game is.
- 1:10:33And that's why I think the game is not as good as it was, as it
- 1:10:37as it was back then. And unfortunately that's the way
- 1:10:40it is right now. And I think when till we get
- 1:10:42more former players in the front office, until we get more former
- 1:10:46players actually coaching at the highest levels, it's going to
- 1:10:50remain that. Way.
- 1:10:50It's all because a man freed that little bastard.
- 1:10:56I just know from like coaching youth sports that when you see
- 1:10:59somebody like make a breakthrough and you know, they
- 1:11:02start, you know, maybe they found a new arm slot, you know,
- 1:11:05slightly different or maybe new release point.
- 1:11:08You know, it's just something that was just a minor tweak that
- 1:11:11now is a difference. And now they have confidence and
- 1:11:13you can tell that they're acting more confident in themselves.
- 1:11:18You don't want to take them out when guys are feeling like that,
- 1:11:21in my opinion. And I think that's an eye test
- 1:11:23thing. And I think that's a knowing
- 1:11:26your teammate thing, knowing a coach, knowing their player
- 1:11:29thing. And that separates the the good
- 1:11:32coaches from the bad coaches. And I think when you only use
- 1:11:35numbers and don't do things like that too, or have a guy that
- 1:11:38knows how to do things like that and use the numbers, I think
- 1:11:42which is probably why Terry Franco is the best, because he
- 1:11:46understands the analytics and it's probably that kind of a
- 1:11:48coach. Stop kissing their ass.
- 1:11:49Stop it. Look, I'm.
- 1:11:51Talking about. One of these.
- 1:11:52Things stop it. Think about this though.
- 1:11:55Analytics cost the Rays the championship.
- 1:11:58Now think about what happened back-to-back years.
- 1:12:01Dudes over 70 that are baseball guys and Dusty Baker and Bruce
- 1:12:05Bocci. What did they do?
- 1:12:06They managed the game. They didn't manage the numbers.
- 1:12:10They managed the game. And look, they were going to,
- 1:12:14Dusty was going to take out what's the lefty Framber,
- 1:12:19because the numbers said the third time through, it was like
- 1:12:24went up like 60 points. He left them in.
- 1:12:27What happened? He got you 8 innings because you
- 1:12:31managed the game. You don't manage the numbers.
- 1:12:33You just know your players. It's all about knowing, knowing
- 1:12:36your players in the game. Well, dude, the, the issue is,
- 1:12:41is the modern manager, the younger managers are being
- 1:12:46heavily influenced by the front office and the analytical
- 1:12:49department, because that's the issue.
- 1:12:51The older managers, the Tito Francona's, the Bruce Bogies of
- 1:12:56the world, Those guys have made their, they've made their
- 1:13:00career. They're they know they, they,
- 1:13:02they will take the information, but at the end of the day, it's
- 1:13:05their ship and their team and they will end up making the
- 1:13:08call. That's why it's pretty ironic
- 1:13:11or, or how ironic is it that the old like Bruce Bocci won just
- 1:13:16recently the world, you know, the World Series.
- 1:13:18Who was his GMC? Why he was a player.
- 1:13:22That, that, that was my point before and I, I don't mind
- 1:13:25people who have never played the game being in the game.
- 1:13:28I think there's some value to the analytics.
- 1:13:29I really do. But at the end of the day, until
- 1:13:32you strapped it on for 162 and then then some in the
- 1:13:35postseason, it's really hard to make assumptions on, on what
- 1:13:39people should do. Because although the numbers say
- 1:13:43that through the third time through, he's hitting 350, like
- 1:13:46this guy's got more sacked than the guy in the bullpen and he's
- 1:13:48pitching his, his Dick off right now.
- 1:13:50So we're going to roll with him. And I, I, I agree with you.
- 1:13:53There's, there's, there's a place for the numbers.
- 1:13:56I, I trust me, I agree. I'm not that ignorant to know
- 1:13:59that there's not. But there's also a place in
- 1:14:02where you got to put eyes to the product and see.
- 1:14:04Well, that's my whole point. That is my whole point that the
- 1:14:07the older managers have feel for the game.
- 1:14:10They they, they, you know, not necessarily, they don't
- 1:14:12necessarily need the job, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:14:15They want to do it because they love the game.
- 1:14:17And probably there's some stipulations in there to where
- 1:14:20it's like, hey, I'm taking this role, but I'm going to manage
- 1:14:23this team the way that I want to manage it and not be so
- 1:14:25influenced by the analytical department.
- 1:14:27Whereas newer managers and younger managers that come in
- 1:14:30might feel a little, I don't know what the word is.
- 1:14:35I don't want to say intimidated because they're there, but they
- 1:14:38might feel like, oh, I got to go with the numbers to make
- 1:14:42somebody happy and it and if it's my end.
- 1:14:45And here's the thing, they're always going to be the fall guy
- 1:14:48for it. And they can't just come out and
- 1:14:50say the analytical department, the front office told me to do
- 1:14:54it because at that point you're just a talking mouth for the
- 1:14:57analytics and you might as well not even be there.
- 1:14:59Like the guys who grow set and they're managing the team the
- 1:15:02way they want to manage it. And they make the decisions do
- 1:15:04and die like that. They probably don't last long in
- 1:15:07this game. And they ended up managing in
- 1:15:09Mexico or something. But that's the way that's the
- 1:15:12way it is. And I'm not saying that for
- 1:15:14everybody, but I'm saying that for the younger guys.
- 1:15:18That's really great stuff guys. And the last thing I wanted to
- 1:15:23bring up to you before we wrap this up, so you have these young
- 1:15:27pitchers that are leading the steps.
- 1:15:28You mentioned schemes and they're going to let him ride
- 1:15:30with them. So I've seen, and we've all seen
- 1:15:35it, a guy hits that 150 innings pitched plateau and then they
- 1:15:40kind of let him go a little. The leash goes a little bit
- 1:15:43longer. But guys that haven't really
- 1:15:45done that yet, they usually try to limit their innings.
- 1:15:49Is there a good way to do that? Is it like, bring him up later
- 1:15:53in the year, keep him in the minors, have him pitch more like
- 1:15:56simulated games that are less taxing?
- 1:15:59Or is it, you know, you sit him down middle of the season and
- 1:16:03ramp him back up? Or is it you make him a reliever
- 1:16:07for that postseason? I feel like we've seen it only
- 1:16:10those three ways, and I don't. And I just wanted to see what
- 1:16:13you guys thought about it. And then Jabba, obviously they
- 1:16:15tried to, you know, limit innings with you when you were
- 1:16:18up. And I just wanted to hear your
- 1:16:20take, you know, tell your especially your fans, you know,
- 1:16:23like kind of like the consensus verdict on how you feel about
- 1:16:26it. I mean, for me, I just, I was
- 1:16:29just happy to be in the big leagues.
- 1:16:31Like I, you know, whatever you wanted me to do, I didn't care.
- 1:16:35But as I got going and as I mentioned earlier, I think the
- 1:16:38thing that that didn't help my process was going back and
- 1:16:42forth. I went back and forth 6/6 times.
- 1:16:46I never got spent down to the minor leagues after the first
- 1:16:49time to build my pitch count, I didn't do any of that.
- 1:16:52It was like, hey, you're going to start for the first three
- 1:16:54weeks of spring training, and then you're going to go, and
- 1:16:58then you're going to go to the pen.
- 1:16:59Then the next year it was like, hey, we're going to start you in
- 1:17:02the pen, and then we're going to move you a starter.
- 1:17:04And then it's like, hey, you're already at 140 innings.
- 1:17:07Now you get 10, you get 10 days rest.
- 1:17:09Well, now you're trying to find a routine for your body.
- 1:17:12And they're like, well, you know, you've gotten rest before
- 1:17:14and pitched good, but they're like, you can just simulate
- 1:17:17pitching by just working out harder.
- 1:17:19No, you can't. I can't have a greased BB runs
- 1:17:23on second and third in the 6th inning with the three hole head
- 1:17:26and like, no, but it's not getting in there.
- 1:17:28Like it's it's just you can't simulate that.
- 1:17:30Yeah. Can I push my body in a workout
- 1:17:33or a swim or whatever it is 100%, But I can't do it when I'm
- 1:17:38trying to manage a game in my head.
- 1:17:40Yeah, it's like, oh, I'm going to throw a SIM game.
- 1:17:43OK, If I give up a hit, I'm starting in five days anyways.
- 1:17:46What does it really matter? So for me, what really came down
- 1:17:51to was the back. If you were going to, if I was
- 1:17:53going to start spring training as a starter, then leave me
- 1:17:56there. If I'm going to be in the
- 1:17:58bullpen, leave me there. I don't want to do the back and
- 1:18:01forth. And that ended up to to what had
- 1:18:02happened. I remember had a great
- 1:18:03conversation with Wade Davis about this because they were
- 1:18:06starting to do that to him a little bit.
- 1:18:09And he was like, hey, I know you've gone through this.
- 1:18:12And this is like right as he was starting and getting hit a
- 1:18:16little bit and they're like, we might move you to the pen
- 1:18:18because your innings. And he he was just like, what do
- 1:18:20I do? I go, man, if I can give you any
- 1:18:22advice, it's you sit down and tell them if I'm starting at
- 1:18:26one, I'm staying there. And look what his career in the
- 1:18:29bullpen turned into. So that for me is you have guys
- 1:18:33that are built to be situational starters.
- 1:18:35Like there are those guys, but they've done it their entire
- 1:18:38career. So they know it's like you might
- 1:18:40have to get a spot started, dude, you know, just got his
- 1:18:43shit pushed in and you've got to go in and eat up some innings.
- 1:18:46So you know, you know that you're that role.
- 1:18:49But it's like, I don't know how long they're going to give me.
- 1:18:52And then because I was at so many innings towards the end of
- 1:18:54the year, they're like, OK, you have four starts left.
- 1:18:57You can go 4 innings, 3 innings, 2 innings, 2 innings.
- 1:19:00So you're setting me up to fail anyways.
- 1:19:02I can't win the game. I can only lose it.
- 1:19:05I'm real excited to go out there.
- 1:19:07This is great. Yep.
- 1:19:08Don't even get a chance to win the game.
- 1:19:09I can just lose it and I'm just like, this is ridiculous.
- 1:19:12And then move me to the pen for the postseason because that was
- 1:19:16that was when Socia was bitching about all the extra days that we
- 1:19:19got off. So we only needed three starters
- 1:19:21at that point. I'd made 20, I'd made 27 and 28
- 1:19:24that year. And so it wasn't like I wasn't
- 1:19:26ready and then moved me there and then.
- 1:19:28I had good games, I had bad games, but I just never had
- 1:19:30anything consistent that year. I went back and forth four times
- 1:19:33that year. Jesus, goody.
- 1:19:36Any thoughts? Final thoughts in the matter.
- 1:19:39No, just finding your roles, doing what doing that is the
- 1:19:43hardest. Like not knowing your role every
- 1:19:45day I think is the hardest position in baseball.
- 1:19:48Showing up one day pitching the first inning and showing up the
- 1:19:50next day pitching the 9th inning.
- 1:19:53Never really knowing, never really getting a good feel on
- 1:19:55what your your goal is is the hardest thing to do, I think in
- 1:19:59in baseball for sure. All right, guys, that has been
