- 0:27Hey, everybody. Good morning from the chicken
- 0:29coop. We're talking about questions
- 0:30today and you know how much I love questions because we talk
- 0:33about questions a lot and how they drive direction and really
- 0:36help us in moving ourselves towards what we are looking for
- 0:41or they actually move us towards what we don't want to because
- 0:44we're just asking crappy questions.
- 0:46And that is the point of figuring out well, OK, what kind
- 0:50of questions am I asking yourself.
- 0:51But as I was getting ready for the podcast today, I was reading
- 0:56a little book about Hermes, the Greek God of wisdom, and he was
- 1:00supposed to be like the master of the masters.
- 1:04He was a astrologer. He was an alchemist.
- 1:07He was known for his hermetic philosophical findings.
- 1:13He wrote tons of stuff about it. If you look him up, you can find
- 1:17a boatload. And it's really when you read
- 1:19it, it is very practical. It is very, very moving because
- 1:25he also didn't believe that in having spirituality tied with
- 1:29religion, which I find fascinating.
- 1:31And he had really big ideas. And when you think about when he
- 1:35lived, I mean, he was considered a Greek God.
- 1:38So think about how long ago that was.
- 1:40In any event, one of the the greatest points of talking about
- 1:46this is when you're asking yourself questions that are
- 1:49driving you in a certain direction, you're expected to
- 1:54find that direction. So the whole theory is you're
- 1:57you're a microcosm in your own head like nobody else is in
- 2:01there but you. Regardless of if we try to
- 2:03believe that we have other people in there with us, we
- 2:06don't. We have what we have and we are
- 2:11maybe let people get in our heads when we say, oh, you let
- 2:14them get in your head. Or we let people do that by
- 2:18implanting putting a seed in there that causes us to
- 2:23fertilize it and let it grow. They can drop a seed, but it
- 2:26doesn't have to grow. Now you know how much I love
- 2:29using that metaphor because it if the seed is not planted in
- 2:33the right environment, it will not grow.
- 2:35In other words, if I plant a cactus in really moist soil
- 2:40that's filled with organic matter, it's not going to grow
- 2:43because it's not its ideal environment.
- 2:45It needs the sandy like run through.
- 2:47It can't can't hold water. It just wants to have this arid
- 2:52soil. And when you plant a cactus seed
- 2:55in it, it thrives. But when you plant like an oak
- 2:58seed in it, it's never going to go.
- 3:00It's just not going to happen. So think about this because
- 3:04someone can plant a seed in your head by asking you a question
- 3:08and it could drive you crazy in a good way or a bad way.
- 3:12It can put you on in a position where you're defensive or you're
- 3:16moving yourself into a more curious space maybe.
- 3:21And curiosity was also, as you heard me say, considered a
- 3:25superpower and he considered curiosity to be one of the
- 3:29greatest assets that we have. Because you can want.
- 3:32Your mind can wander and take you to any place.
- 3:35Now go back to someone planting a seed in our heads.
- 3:39Now more than ever in the world, we allow this to happen very
- 3:43quickly. We allow people to come in and
- 3:45plant seeds and have us feel something specific based on a
- 3:49seed that they have planted. This is where it gets really
- 3:52tricky, my friends, because we don't have to fertilize that
- 3:55seed. We don't have to pay attention
- 3:58to the original thought that we had with that whatever they
- 4:01said, whatever their question was.
- 4:03Now, many years ago I had somebody who implanted a
- 4:08question in my head and I let it fester and I let it grow.
- 4:12And that particular thing was so driving to me because it really
- 4:17pissed me off. I had somebody make a comment to
- 4:20me. I'm not going to share the name
- 4:23because it's a well known person made a comment to me about money
- 4:28and how did it feel to not have the money to do the thing I
- 4:31wanted to do. And it pissed me off because I
- 4:36was like, why? Why don't I have the money?
- 4:39So I went down a Y Rd. which you've heard me before.
- 4:41So then I started kicking my own ass Now did it make me have
- 4:46drive? Yes, it made me have drive, but
- 4:50it made me have drive in the wrong, in the wrong way, in the
- 4:54wrong place. Meaning it it was it was making
- 4:57me grind only. Yeah, I was always a hard worker
- 5:01and it was making me work hard, but it was making me work from
- 5:05desperation, not inspiration. I wasn't using the seed in the
- 5:09right way. Instead, I could have taken that
- 5:12question at that time and I could have said OK, what else
- 5:15could he mean by this? What else could he mean?
- 5:17Could it be meaning that I need to sharpen my skills and I need
- 5:20to be better at something else? Couldn't mean that I need to
- 5:24look at my direction of how I'm doing what I'm doing.
- 5:29Could it mean that I need to incorporate other avenues of
- 5:32getting money? Now we're talking, going back
- 5:34almost 20 years. But that question was such an
- 5:38irritant to me, and I've often thought it was one of the rudest
- 5:42things that someone has ever said to me.
- 5:44And it was. But did it shape me?
- 5:47Yes. Did it add value to me?
- 5:49Yes. But the only way it did that
- 5:52ultimately was through me taking it through a process from
- 5:55beginning to end. I had to take it through the
- 5:57whole process. I had to figure that out, and I
- 6:00had to go from where it was, grinding where it was annoying,
- 6:03where it was frustrating, and taking it all the way over to
- 6:06wait. I can think about this
- 6:07differently. So I'm going to ask you guys to
- 6:10think about those questions. I'm going to ask you to think of
- 6:13asking better questions, and I'm going to ask you to think about,
- 6:16OK, am I feeding these seeds the right way or do I need to stop
- 6:21feeding those seeds and plant some new ones?
- 6:24OK, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I'll see you
- 6:26tomorrow. Bye.
