- 0:11Hello friends, it's Shaun here on this Friday the 17th of
- 0:16January. Welcome to the end of the week.
- 0:19Well done you for making it through another week.
- 0:22Ah, this has been my first week back at work after some weeks
- 0:26away. Yeah, you know when you have
- 0:27those weeks hanging out with your friends and your family and
- 0:31seeing some beautiful things and swimming in the ocean and having
- 0:35a wonderful break and then you get back into life.
- 0:38I hope as you get back into life this year, it is a good thing
- 0:42and that you look forward to the year ahead getting to do all
- 0:46those things that have been laid out before us to do.
- 0:49Well, that is my experience, and I hope it is yours too.
- 0:52But today, today we are reading the second last Psalm.
- 0:56That's right, today we are up to Psalm 149.
- 0:59And these Psalms, as the ones we've read previously, are
- 1:02wonderful, pithy little praise Psalms, little only in their
- 1:07length, not in their power and in their sentiment.
- 1:10And today's Psalm speaks about praising God for his judgement
- 1:15yet to come. So the psalmist really is just
- 1:20worshipping and praising God for all his actions, those which
- 1:24have been and those which are yet to be.
- 1:27So, friends, join me today as we sing together this Psalm of
- 1:32praise, as our hearts are opened with a posture of worship and
- 1:37praise to our wonderful, majestic God, as we celebrate,
- 1:42as we read, as we share these words of Psalm 149, Praise the
- 1:57Lord. Sing to the Lord a new song.
- 2:01Sing his praises in the assembly of the faithful.
- 2:05O Israel, rejoice in your Maker. O people of Jerusalem, exalt in
- 2:12your king. Praise his name with dancing,
- 2:16accompanied by tambourine and harp.
- 2:20For the Lord delights in his people.
- 2:23He crowns the humble with victory.
- 2:27Let the faithful rejoice that he honours them.
- 2:31Let them sing for joy as they lie on their beds.
- 2:35Let the praises of God be in their mouths, and a sharp sword
- 2:40in their hands. To execute vengeance on the
- 2:43nations, and punish on the peoples.
- 2:47To bind their kings with shackles and the leaders with
- 2:51iron chains to execute the judgement written against them.
- 2:57This is the glorious privilege of his faithful ones.
- 3:01Praise the Lord our Lord.
- 3:14While it's true that most of us don't envisage yourselves taking
- 3:18up sharp swords to enact your vengeance against the royalty,
- 3:22thank you for the posture of praise from the psalmist that
- 3:25says you will have your way and that I am willing to step
- 3:30forward and be a part of your Kingdom.
- 3:33Come. So Lord, I pray that You would
- 3:36prepare our hearts to step out in faith with you, and not just
- 3:40a burden of faith and a burden of activity for Your Kingdom,
- 3:45but with praise leaping from our lips as we take up our tools to
- 3:51step forward and serve You with our whole hearts and our whole
- 3:54lives. We love you and we love your
- 3:58rule, Your justice, and Your righteous rule that in all
- 4:03things You would draw them together in Your way to be as
- 4:08You want them to be. So we just stand in awe of your
- 4:14majestic plans and pray that You use us in whatever small ways
- 4:18You have for us to be used. Ah, we praise you, our
- 4:23wonderful, mighty ruler, our loving God, in the name of
- 4:28Jesus, Amen.
