- 0:17Speaker 2: The World's a vegeinal podcast.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Again. I don't want to turn this into Fred and
- 0:30Speaker 2: Paul are saying the same thing, but they're arguing. Anyway
- 0:33Speaker 2: to the show.
- 0:33Speaker 3: When I left, but I don't know, like, like the
- 0:35Speaker 3: gold medal game with France was pretty intense.
- 0:38Speaker 4: It was intense, so it wasn't I mean, he never
- 0:40Speaker 4: felt like the US was going to lose.
- 0:41Speaker 3: He didn't know the game was hanging in the balance.
- 0:44Speaker 3: That was a two point game.
- 0:45Speaker 4: But that was always going to happen.
- 0:48Speaker 3: I mean, I never read when I'm no longer working
- 0:51Speaker 3: here and I'm allowed to bet, but I'm going to
- 0:53Speaker 3: talk to Evan and ask him what's going to He's unbelievable.
- 0:56Speaker 2: He's jumping over cars.
- 0:58Speaker 3: But that was way better than but wait, Griffin's jumping over.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, he just did a kid ull size.
- 1:06Speaker 5: Cadillac was telling me about this guy's gonna be the MVP.
- 1:09Speaker 5: It's like BCR or something.
- 1:13Speaker 4: I think they're starting five would be better.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Free Hugger and Oregon Rights and one of my favorite
- 1:17Speaker 2: parts of Patriots Unfiltered is hearing Mike's many sonorous hms
- 1:22Speaker 2: very well resembled that nineteen ninety three hit song mm
- 1:25Speaker 2: mmmmmm by the Canadian rock band Crash Test Dummies. O.
- 1:30Speaker 5: There was this boy who know that one.
- 1:34Speaker 6: Every playoff loss just was an absolute dagger in my heart.
- 1:37Speaker 6: And that's why fourteenth to me is always so fred
- 1:39Speaker 6: really seventy sixteen.
- 1:41Speaker 5: Yeah, but the jets is.
- 1:43Speaker 7: Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website for deals by
- 1:47Speaker 7: a Toyota dot com.
- 1:51Speaker 2: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here
- 1:54Speaker 2: at Jillette Stadium. The gang's all here. We got Alex Dus,
- 1:58Speaker 2: Paul Evan, myself in the booth, and it's kind of
- 2:02Speaker 2: gonna be a free form Thursday. I think more of
- 2:05Speaker 2: an off season. I mean, like we're I mean, we're
- 2:07Speaker 2: getting ready for the Combine next week. So next week
- 2:10Speaker 2: it'll be all Combine all the time. But this week,
- 2:15Speaker 2: you know, news is kind of slow. There's nothing really new.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Couple signings Ben Brown and uh Jacob's trade Jacobs, you know,
- 2:25Speaker 2: lower level signings. I'd say, uh, so that's that's guys
- 2:30Speaker 2: they let they let.
- 2:33Speaker 3: Go, which is funny the timeliness of it. Someone asked
- 2:38Speaker 3: us on Tuesday, was that you I wasn't a caller.
- 2:41Speaker 6: Yeah, I said, I said, what do you think the
- 2:42Speaker 6: timing is? When they starting to start like some roster
- 2:45Speaker 6: that's all you're getting on? Yeah, I just thought it
- 2:47Speaker 6: was a listeners random callar So I heard somebody say
- 2:53Speaker 6: fair on one of your shows, Paul, I forget who
- 2:55Speaker 6: it was.
- 2:56Speaker 2: That the release of Taki Talkie is show that Rabel
- 3:00Speaker 2: now has complete control of this roster. And because Taki
- 3:04Speaker 2: Taki was an Elliott Wolf guy and he's gone now,
- 3:08Speaker 2: so that shows that Rabel's in charge.
- 3:10Speaker 6: Okay, I mean I think that's reading a lot into it.
- 3:14Speaker 6: He was hurt a lot, He couldn't really get on
- 3:16Speaker 6: the field. Even when he was, he didn't really make
- 3:18Speaker 6: much of an impact for a linebacker group that you
- 3:20Speaker 6: really needed a guy to make an impact in.
- 3:22Speaker 3: So I was surprised to read it he had four starts, Yeah,
- 3:25Speaker 3: I mean.
- 3:27Speaker 5: That much?
- 3:28Speaker 2: Well, he played what ten or eleven games? Eleven games,
- 3:31Speaker 2: twenty tackles.
- 3:32Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm a deuce on that. On the whole, reading
- 3:34Speaker 4: too much into it, like so is Jeremiah Farms. That's
- 3:38Speaker 4: a Rabel guy, you know, all of a sudden, right,
- 3:40Speaker 4: so like they gave him an extension and that like
- 3:45Speaker 4: what relationship would Rabel have with Jeremiah Farms to this point?
- 3:48Speaker 4: So I don't I don't think it's that deep. Taki Taki,
- 3:52Speaker 4: I wouldn't say, all right, I mean.
- 3:54Speaker 6: It's just not a great ending. And these were all
- 3:56Speaker 6: one year deals, but Taki Taki was the only two
- 3:58Speaker 6: year deal. A lot of these external free agents they
- 4:01Speaker 6: signed last year, but I mean a Corps four didn't
- 4:03Speaker 6: finish the year with the team. Leverett didn' finish the
- 4:05Speaker 6: year with the team. kJ Osborne didn't finish the year
- 4:08Speaker 6: with the team. Did well, he was an internal guy,
- 4:10Speaker 6: but still didn't finish the year with the team. Armand Watts,
- 4:13Speaker 6: I'm not sure what happened to him. I think he
- 4:15Speaker 6: was still on the roster but was not there.
- 4:17Speaker 8: He was off.
- 4:18Speaker 6: And now Taki Taki makes another one of those external
- 4:21Speaker 6: free agents last year that they just didn't hit on.
- 4:23Speaker 6: So it's it underscores what they need to do this year,
- 4:26Speaker 6: I think.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Which is I think he's that's just the first thing
- 4:30Speaker 2: to happen. There's gonna be a lot of turnover on
- 4:33Speaker 2: this roster, don't you think.
- 4:34Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 4:35Speaker 9: I don't think any of them are like Elliott's guys either.
- 4:37Speaker 9: I think it's just like anyone they could find to
- 4:40Speaker 9: patch some holes last year.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Yeah, but eternal they don't have a ton of guys
- 4:45Speaker 3: under contract. Yeah, Like, isn't it like in the fifties?
- 4:49Speaker 5: But what do you mean the Patriots?
- 4:50Speaker 8: Right?
- 4:50Speaker 5: Yeah, the roster they're pretty high.
- 4:52Speaker 6: Actually, I mean that was that I thought it was
- 4:53Speaker 6: like my own thing was like they're in the mid forties.
- 4:55Speaker 6: I mean, now they're probably a few higher. But I
- 4:57Speaker 6: mean i'd say in the spectrum of when the season
- 5:00Speaker 6: and ended, guys that were under contract for this year,
- 5:02Speaker 6: they were on the higher end.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Of of I thought.
- 5:05Speaker 5: Maybe like tenth.
- 5:05Speaker 6: I mean, not like you know, top five. Well, I
- 5:09Speaker 6: mean we had we did a radio Yeah, I mean
- 5:11Speaker 6: we did a show. I remember Paul bringing that up
- 5:13Speaker 6: and you being like do you like that? And I
- 5:14Speaker 6: said no. But I would still say guys like Ben Brown,
- 5:19Speaker 6: Trade Jacobs, certainly they were not the answer last year,
- 5:22Speaker 6: but you poured a lot into those guys, and I
- 5:24Speaker 6: think right now everyone's questioning what was the coaching like
- 5:26Speaker 6: and so you invested some time in those players and
- 5:29Speaker 6: with how hard it is to find tackles and tackle bodies,
- 5:32Speaker 6: and I'm fine. And of course they're exclusive rights free agents.
- 5:35Speaker 6: It's not like a huge They couldn't really make right
- 5:37Speaker 6: unless they asked them, if they asked you to.
- 5:40Speaker 4: Unless they were as they don't usually carry a ton
- 5:43Speaker 4: of guaranteed money on those contracts either. So I almost
- 5:46Speaker 4: look at Jacobs and Ben Brown as as camp tryout
- 5:50Speaker 4: type contracts that we're going to keep them on the
- 5:52Speaker 4: team and they'll compete in the summer. But there's no
- 5:55Speaker 4: guarantee that those two guys are going to be on
- 5:56Speaker 4: the roster.
- 5:58Speaker 5: But I like Ben Brown's size.
- 5:59Speaker 6: I mean, you got to give Ben Brown credit for
- 6:01Speaker 6: what he did coming in here out of nowhere, starting
- 6:04Speaker 6: really providing some stability at that position. And I don't
- 6:06Speaker 6: know what their ceilings are, but.
- 6:08Speaker 2: I just think you need guys, and you need guys
- 6:10Speaker 2: on the lower end of the roster too.
- 6:12Speaker 8: Yep.
- 6:12Speaker 2: So if you identify a guy, yeah, in a pinch,
- 6:15Speaker 2: we know he can come in. There's value there.
- 6:18Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:18Speaker 6: And is it I mean, is it a disaster of
- 6:20Speaker 6: trade Jacobs ends up being your third tackle?
- 6:22Speaker 5: This year and he you know, maybe sparks a.
- 6:24Speaker 6: Little something in him playing with a new coaching staff
- 6:27Speaker 6: that you.
- 6:27Speaker 5: Know, you got to take swings like this.
- 6:29Speaker 6: So it's not a huge deal, but good depth to
- 6:31Speaker 6: have and like Evan said, some training camp guys just
- 6:34Speaker 6: to have in the mix.
- 6:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I think Ben Brown showed that he's a serviceable
- 6:39Speaker 4: center when called upon. I don't know if I would
- 6:41Speaker 4: put all my eggs in that basket, but yeah, he
- 6:43Speaker 4: was decent for them at times last year, and I
- 6:46Speaker 4: thought that there was something to work with there. Trade
- 6:49Speaker 4: Jacobs I didn't feel as strongly about in terms of
- 6:53Speaker 4: him being you know, a long term answer at right tackle.
- 6:57Speaker 4: But I thought Ben Brown was was solid for most
- 7:01Speaker 4: of the time that he played, and especially given the
- 7:03Speaker 4: circumstances that he came in you know, mid season and
- 7:06Speaker 4: had to learn it on the fly and everything like that.
- 7:08Speaker 4: So with David Andrews's situation, we don't know if he's
- 7:12Speaker 4: going to be healthy enough to play and what the
- 7:15Speaker 4: future holds for him. And now you have Ben Brown,
- 7:17Speaker 4: you have Cold Strange still under contract, Andrew the ghost,
- 7:22Speaker 4: and maybe you have some center depth there.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Yep. So next week, as I mentioned, is the Combine. Uh,
- 7:30Speaker 2: we'll be there with Bells on h Elliott will talk,
- 7:35Speaker 2: Vrabel will talk. We'll cover both of those podium press
- 7:39Speaker 2: conferences live on pages dot com, and we'll have a
- 7:43Speaker 2: live Catch twenty two. Yes, what day? Will that be?
- 7:46Speaker 4: Wednesday afternoon?
- 7:47Speaker 2: Wednesday afternoon and Barth will be in attendance, So the
- 7:51Speaker 2: two of you will be live from Indy on your
- 7:54Speaker 2: Catch twenty two show. Now, will you be showing Bartha
- 7:56Speaker 2: around town? Kind of?
- 7:58Speaker 4: I'll try him, I'll try.
- 8:00Speaker 2: He's gonna be video kid in Disney.
- 8:01Speaker 4: World, I know, I know. I just remember how he
- 8:04Speaker 4: was when we went to the Shrine.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Bowl, you know, a little kids Mickey Mouse.
- 8:09Speaker 4: Yeah, last year you might have been with us at
- 8:14Speaker 4: this point of the night. But we were walking down
- 8:15Speaker 4: the street and Nicosario walked right by us. And now
- 8:18Speaker 4: I know if that happens again, like Barth is going
- 8:20Speaker 4: to be like do you see who?
- 8:22Speaker 10: Was?
- 8:23Speaker 4: Like, Yeah, that's that's kind of what happens here. It's
- 8:26Speaker 4: the cool part of the combine. You're just walking around
- 8:28Speaker 4: and you might bump into Andy Reid like out of nowhere.
- 8:31Speaker 5: Well, Andy Reid's being golf carted through the convention center.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Maybe aund.
- 8:37Speaker 5: He wasn't walking when I saw him.
- 8:39Speaker 2: He's gonna ride, Yeah.
- 8:41Speaker 3: And I used to bump into Andy Reid from time
- 8:44Speaker 3: to time in various states of indebriation.
- 8:47Speaker 2: At the at the rubber grill. That's still there.
- 8:51Speaker 3: It is still there.
- 8:52Speaker 5: It is ye haven't posts up there.
- 8:55Speaker 6: We watch the the workouts at night. That yeah, you know,
- 8:58Speaker 6: that's the big part. I think a lot of people
- 8:59Speaker 6: get excited about.
- 9:01Speaker 5: You know, we do the interviews and.
- 9:04Speaker 8: The fans do.
- 9:05Speaker 6: That's I mean, that's that's what the real like. You know,
- 9:07Speaker 6: nobody cares like I mean, yeah, there's stories there that
- 9:10Speaker 6: you'll hear.
- 9:10Speaker 5: On the interview podiums. But you want to see how
- 9:12Speaker 5: long L Campbell's arms are.
- 9:14Speaker 3: The fans probably a lot more interested in that than
- 9:16Speaker 3: the teams are.
- 9:17Speaker 6: I think in a lot of these, you know, second tier,
- 9:19Speaker 6: third tier receivers, how fast they run. You know some
- 9:21Speaker 6: of those guys that could suddenly really spark you know,
- 9:24Speaker 6: Isaiah Bond's name, I mentioned a couple of times he
- 9:26Speaker 6: runs like lightning. It that it's probably gonna prove his
- 9:28Speaker 6: draft stock a little bit. A number of those guys,
- 9:31Speaker 6: I think, you know, defensive linemen, how big are they
- 9:33Speaker 6: really how long? Are a lot of a lot of
- 9:35Speaker 6: arm lengths And that's always something that's interesting from the comment.
- 9:37Speaker 4: But I would look out for Teses Johnson from Oregon.
- 9:40Speaker 4: I think it's gonna have a real chance to break
- 9:42Speaker 4: the forty record this year. Oh yeah, and he's five nine,
- 9:47Speaker 4: one hundred and sixty pounds. What's the current record for
- 9:50Speaker 4: by xavior Worthy last year? So I think he's going
- 9:53Speaker 4: to have a real chance to to break it just
- 9:55Speaker 4: based off of how fast he moves on tape. I
- 9:58Speaker 4: think he's going to have a low four two times?
- 10:00Speaker 2: Is there, like you know, twenty years ago, twenty five
- 10:04Speaker 2: years ago, maybe the recording methods for the forty wasn't
- 10:09Speaker 2: as accurate as they are now. Is there a way
- 10:11Speaker 2: to go back on tape and re re time these people?
- 10:16Speaker 4: Maybe? I don't know. I now, you know a lot
- 10:20Speaker 4: of scouts still use hand times because when they go
- 10:22Speaker 4: to pro days, they want to have it be consistent
- 10:25Speaker 4: throughout their entire value.
- 10:27Speaker 2: My fingers are better than the electronic one.
- 10:29Speaker 4: No, no, no, they's not.
- 10:31Speaker 2: That it's to get on a rant in a minute.
- 10:34Speaker 3: But can I just say like it's just so it's
- 10:36Speaker 3: the same, Yeah, I don't think it's because my time
- 10:39Speaker 3: is more at your finger.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Your finger isn't trying to help you. No, My point
- 10:45Speaker 2: is your finger. You think your finger is consistent, It's
- 10:47Speaker 2: not the same, right, every time you do it, you're
- 10:49Speaker 2: doing it a little different.
- 10:50Speaker 4: Well, I will say this that nowadays at these pro days,
- 10:54Speaker 4: they all have the laser technology anyways, and they usually
- 10:58Speaker 4: pass it around at the end. But the problem is
- 11:00Speaker 4: is that you're worried that they might, you know, flub
- 11:02Speaker 4: the numbers to make their guys look better. So you
- 11:06Speaker 4: have to take it with a grain of salt. Yeah, yeah,
- 11:09Speaker 4: you know, like there's no like a couple of tenths
- 11:11Speaker 4: of a second off this guys, you know, so you
- 11:13Speaker 4: have to be worry about that. But I think the
- 11:16Speaker 4: biggest thing with the combine now is obviously what happens
- 11:19Speaker 4: away from the actual drills, which is the interviews in
- 11:23Speaker 4: the medical rechecks like those are the biggest for teams.
- 11:26Speaker 4: You know, a lot of teams don't even pay attention
- 11:28Speaker 4: to what happens on the field anymore, but getting in
- 11:31Speaker 4: that room for ten to fifteen minutes with the prospects
- 11:34Speaker 4: is important. It kind of sets the stage for the
- 11:36Speaker 4: rest of the process, and then obviously all the medicals
- 11:40Speaker 4: is extremely important for a lot of guys, so that
- 11:43Speaker 4: that's a big deal as well. And one of the
- 11:45Speaker 4: reasons why it's still an indie is because of how
- 11:48Speaker 4: streamlined the medical processes with the hospital being right down
- 11:51Speaker 4: the street from the convention center, so a lot of
- 11:54Speaker 4: that is a big part of this as well.
- 11:57Speaker 2: I think a lot of places have hospitals down the
- 11:59Speaker 2: street from convention centers, But that's besides the point anyway. No,
- 12:03Speaker 2: but we were talking about technology, and we've talked a
- 12:06Speaker 2: lot in this show about the chip and the ball
- 12:08Speaker 2: and how they might be able to incorporate that and
- 12:11Speaker 2: to first downs, and we learned that they are, in fact,
- 12:14Speaker 2: you know, have been and continue to experiment with that,
- 12:17Speaker 2: and so at some point we're going to see that.
- 12:18Speaker 2: But I just have to take a slight detour about baseball.
- 12:23Speaker 2: They announced that, I think starting today in the majors,
- 12:26Speaker 2: they're going to start experimenting with, you know, automated balls
- 12:30Speaker 2: and strikes. And the technology has been there for years,
- 12:34Speaker 2: they've used it in the minors before, and you know,
- 12:37Speaker 2: according to one of your guys, Tony, it works. It works,
- 12:40Speaker 2: you know, and of course, Felger's dead set against it.
- 12:44Speaker 8: You know.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Part of the great thing about baseball is, you know,
- 12:48Speaker 2: arguing about balls and strikes and being mad about that.
- 12:50Speaker 2: And I couldn't agree disagree more. I just couldn't disagree.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Balls and strikes should be a matter of fact, not
- 12:57Speaker 2: a matter of opinion. Nothing makes me more that a
- 13:00Speaker 2: pitcher throws a perfect you know, pitch on strike two
- 13:04Speaker 2: to get like Aaron Judge out and he doesn't get
- 13:08Speaker 2: rewarded because the umpire is just not calling it right
- 13:11Speaker 2: that day. If you have the technology and it works,
- 13:15Speaker 2: use it all the time. They've got this FORACCTA plan
- 13:18Speaker 2: about you get two challenges and it's like all these
- 13:22Speaker 2: different things. It's ridiculous. The only reason the umpire needs
- 13:26Speaker 2: to be back there is to call violations and outsafe
- 13:28Speaker 2: at home plate. You don't need them to call balls
- 13:31Speaker 2: and strikes anymore. Like, just just use it all the time.
- 13:36Speaker 2: I don't understand.
- 13:38Speaker 3: Just replace the players too.
- 13:39Speaker 4: How does.
- 13:42Speaker 2: That's going to replace? You know, not having this guy
- 13:45Speaker 2: called balls and strikes is not like, you know.
- 13:47Speaker 3: I'm just bust because you're passionate about it.
- 13:50Speaker 2: I know I've always been that way. It's like, I
- 13:52Speaker 2: just can't stand at these guys the way they call
- 13:55Speaker 2: balls and strikes. And some are really good. But if
- 13:57Speaker 2: you have this technology, just use it all the time,
- 14:01Speaker 2: no challenge. It's it's a ball or a strike. It's
- 14:03Speaker 2: a matter of fact, it's not an opinion. How does
- 14:07Speaker 2: it How does it adjust for I think every person?
- 14:11Speaker 2: This is at the beginning of the year. Everybody gets measured.
- 14:15Speaker 4: Yeah, because like Jose Altuve and Aaron Judge are very different.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Strike gets up, you're punching his measurement and it automatically
- 14:23Speaker 2: adjusts to alt because he's a hell of a different
- 14:27Speaker 2: strike zone than Aaron Judge, obviously, And you know, you
- 14:31Speaker 2: do it with a third party so that no one
- 14:34Speaker 2: can like crouch Down and make their strikes on the
- 14:36Speaker 2: smaller when they get you know, it's all done under
- 14:39Speaker 2: the auspices of Major League Baseball, so no one can
- 14:41Speaker 2: shoot on their strike zone.
- 14:43Speaker 6: I was really good at walking, I mean, but doesn't
- 14:46Speaker 6: Barth two Barth crouch down.
- 14:48Speaker 4: I don't know about him, but I was very Eddie Goodell.
- 14:51Speaker 4: I couldn't hit, so I just would like, you know.
- 14:53Speaker 5: Please hit me, please hit me.
- 14:55Speaker 4: Just wear it.
- 14:57Speaker 5: What do you think, Paul you're you're a Hall of
- 14:59Speaker 5: Fame baseball pitch.
- 15:00Speaker 3: I'm not a big replay guy. You guys know that.
- 15:02Speaker 3: But if you want to do if you want to
- 15:04Speaker 3: streamline balls and strikes, but I'm.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Saying no replay. There's no replay. It's just a striker
- 15:09Speaker 2: or a ball according to the machine.
- 15:10Speaker 9: Like in tennis, it's on the broadcast anyway.
- 15:12Speaker 3: Tennis, yeah, I don't think that's.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Mostly in more and more tennis events, there are no
- 15:17Speaker 2: more line judges. You don't need them. They don't have them.
- 15:20Speaker 2: They're gone. The people are gone.
- 15:22Speaker 3: They have no problem with that. We want to do that.
- 15:24Speaker 5: Do you have any ideas?
- 15:26Speaker 6: I mean, you know the umpire strike three, you know,
- 15:30Speaker 6: he does a thing like would you just have like
- 15:31Speaker 6: a sign that would be like start.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's just a noise. It's like beep
- 15:37Speaker 2: or boop or whatever it is. The ball is a
- 15:39Speaker 2: boop and strikes a beep. I don't know. You can
- 15:42Speaker 2: figure that out later, you know, Like, I don't care
- 15:45Speaker 2: how they do that. The point is there's technology to
- 15:49Speaker 2: get that right. And like I said, nothing infuriates me
- 15:52Speaker 2: more either way. When when an umpire is just not
- 15:56Speaker 2: calling balls and strikes correctly, and it happens way too often.
- 16:00Speaker 6: You know, It's the hardest sport to referee or umpire
- 16:02Speaker 6: because you're involved in every single play. You have to
- 16:05Speaker 6: make a decision, whereas other sports you're always just kind
- 16:07Speaker 6: of looking for violations instead of actively every single play
- 16:10Speaker 6: you've got to make a decision.
- 16:11Speaker 5: So right, I hear it, I hear it.
- 16:13Speaker 6: I'm generally a refskuy. I like that element of you know,
- 16:16Speaker 6: human unknown that adds into any game that you don't
- 16:18Speaker 6: really realize is could go your way, it could go
- 16:20Speaker 6: against your way, but I like it.
- 16:22Speaker 4: I'd be all right with just anything to take the
- 16:24Speaker 4: power out of the actual hands of the referees. I'm
- 16:27Speaker 4: for because I am kind of with Paul and all
- 16:30Speaker 4: of this in all sports. I think that all sports
- 16:33Speaker 4: are over officiated and are really just have an issue
- 16:37Speaker 4: with officiating across the board, whether it's basketball, hockey, football, whatever.
- 16:42Speaker 3: Yeah, and at least that would be equitable. Yeah, Like,
- 16:44Speaker 3: if it's the same for everybody, then there's there's no
- 16:47Speaker 3: more complaining, right, Yeah, So I don't have any issue
- 16:52Speaker 3: with your plan to eliminate more jobs.
- 16:55Speaker 5: It'd be interesting on the TV.
- 16:57Speaker 2: No, do you still need the empire for violations. You know,
- 17:00Speaker 2: the guy's taking too long getting into the thing, or
- 17:02Speaker 2: there's a box or or whatever. There's still a lot
- 17:05Speaker 2: of things that you need a homeplate up for, including
- 17:08Speaker 2: you know, whether he's out or safe at home play,
- 17:10Speaker 2: but you don't need him calling balls and strikes.
- 17:13Speaker 6: I think it would be visually interesting though, for and
- 17:15Speaker 6: they have the you know sometimes the broadcast they have
- 17:17Speaker 6: the box.
- 17:18Speaker 5: But if everyone was different and everything.
- 17:22Speaker 2: To you know, instead of.
- 17:23Speaker 6: Going from Aaron Judge where you can really see the
- 17:25Speaker 6: size of it to now a shorter guy. Now you
- 17:28Speaker 6: see how much more difficult it is for the pictures.
- 17:30Speaker 5: I mean, I think that's.
- 17:31Speaker 6: Visually interesting instead of just a stationary rectangle that's always
- 17:35Speaker 6: the strike zone that doesn't really match up totally and
- 17:37Speaker 6: there's that element of not quite sure, you know, like
- 17:40Speaker 6: that so and then.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Listen, it's technology. There might be a day where it
- 17:45Speaker 2: breaks and you need the umpire to take over as
- 17:48Speaker 2: a backup. So it's not a.
- 17:52Speaker 3: Break in.
- 17:53Speaker 2: It's not eliminating jobs. It's it's making the game that
- 17:59Speaker 2: such a home making the game better. Anyway, it was
- 18:01Speaker 2: bregnant part.
- 18:02Speaker 3: Of that, Oh yeah, that's gonna say so as the manager.
- 18:07Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you know, but we like that all right,
- 18:10Speaker 2: So that I just had to take that detour. And
- 18:12Speaker 2: like I said, it's free form. If other people have
- 18:14Speaker 2: opinions on that or want a way in, you can
- 18:16Speaker 2: certainly do that.
- 18:18Speaker 4: I give a quick Baseball take sure, Baseball Take. So
- 18:21Speaker 4: the Red Sox have a very good new picture Garrett Crochet,
- 18:26Speaker 4: who is making his spring training debut for the Red
- 18:29Speaker 4: Sox on Sunday, and I said, oh, great, cool, give
- 18:33Speaker 4: me something to watch. Watch thirty minutes of Garrett Crochet
- 18:35Speaker 4: throw throw ninety eight mile an hour fastballs. It is
- 18:38Speaker 4: on nesson three sixty, which you have to pay thirty
- 18:41Speaker 4: dollars a month behind a paywall to watch it.
- 18:45Speaker 2: And this is what you can get it on your
- 18:46Speaker 2: phone too.
- 18:47Speaker 4: This is consistently why Baseball stakes, because they just can't
- 18:50Speaker 4: get out of their own way when it comes to market.
- 18:54Speaker 4: It's just but it's baseball in general, like they're so
- 18:57Speaker 4: bad at marketing their product. Like this is the first
- 19:00Speaker 4: time the Red Sox have had like an actual ace
- 19:02Speaker 4: since probably like Chrisale was healthy and good and it's
- 19:06Speaker 4: been that's a long time. Yeah, and now they finally
- 19:08Speaker 4: have somebody that people are excited to see and I'm
- 19:11Speaker 4: not paying that.
- 19:12Speaker 2: That's the red Sox fall.
- 19:15Speaker 9: They really did no marketing research to begin with, because
- 19:17Speaker 9: I don't know if this is still true, but at
- 19:19Speaker 9: the time when they launched that, you could pay for
- 19:21Speaker 9: the NHL's package and and the MLB's package and it
- 19:25Speaker 9: was still combined less than Yeah, so.
- 19:30Speaker 4: I just it's just crazy to me, like, just you know,
- 19:33Speaker 4: you have somebody that's marketable, that's exciting that he's on
- 19:36Speaker 4: the team now that you made a big trade for
- 19:38Speaker 4: in the off season, that fans are on board with,
- 19:41Speaker 4: and you put it behind a paywall service.
- 19:44Speaker 2: They're in trouble. They're they're scrambling.
- 19:47Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, well and there yeah, from like.
- 19:50Speaker 9: The Yes Network, Nesson, like the big ones there.
- 19:53Speaker 3: But even Nessen was forced to increase their rates, uh,
- 19:57Speaker 3: you know and all that stuff, and that's that's that's
- 20:00Speaker 3: going to cost them in the long run. It's going
- 20:02Speaker 3: to cost them some people that weren't realizing that they
- 20:04Speaker 3: were playing paying extra forward in the first place, because
- 20:08Speaker 3: it just kind of comes like on your your basic tier,
- 20:12Speaker 3: but now it doesn't. Now you have to specifically request it,
- 20:16Speaker 3: like an OL cart kind.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Of Thingeah, speaking of money, there's a report out there
- 20:21Speaker 2: that the forty nine ers are selling like twenty percent
- 20:25Speaker 2: of the team to or thinking of selling it to
- 20:28Speaker 2: an investment.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Private equity that one of those things.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Yeah, and uh, that's worrowing trend because a lot of
- 20:34Speaker 2: these owners are looking for that liquidity for whatever reason.
- 20:40Speaker 2: The valuations are high. So if you're both, if you
- 20:42Speaker 2: sell ten percent or twenty percent of your team, that's
- 20:44Speaker 2: hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars cash that all
- 20:48Speaker 2: of a sudden you have access to. I get it,
- 20:50Speaker 2: But I do worry about this trend because these equity firms,
- 20:56Speaker 2: investment firms that are coming in, they're gonna looking for
- 20:58Speaker 2: a return on their money, and but they're coming in
- 21:02Speaker 2: at a very high value, you know, valuation of the teams.
- 21:05Speaker 2: And there's going to be a lot of pressure on
- 21:07Speaker 2: the league and these teams to increase the valuations of
- 21:11Speaker 2: the team, and that could cause bad decisions down the road,
- 21:15Speaker 2: that extra pressure to you know, return investment for these
- 21:18Speaker 2: you know, Johnny cum latelies, you know Robert Kraft at
- 21:22Speaker 2: the time bought the Patriots for one hundred and seventy
- 21:25Speaker 2: some odd million dollars and now it's worth like seven billion.
- 21:29Speaker 2: You're never going to see that kind of return again.
- 21:31Speaker 9: And pro sports teams are like the one asset that
- 21:35Speaker 9: it's such a privileged club, right, Like you can buy
- 21:38Speaker 9: as many as much jewelry, as many houses as you want.
- 21:41Speaker 9: There's only so many pro sports teams to go around.
- 21:44Speaker 9: So when these valuations keep getting higher and higher and higher,
- 21:47Speaker 9: like eventually the cost of just buying into that is
- 21:50Speaker 9: going to be way more than the teams are producing
- 21:52Speaker 9: in revenue. And then you're answering the shareholders, right, It's
- 21:55Speaker 9: like right.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Yeah, exact place that money. So I do worry about it,
- 22:02Speaker 2: and I get it. It's it's easy money for the owners.
- 22:05Speaker 2: You know, an owner like Spanos and you know with
- 22:09Speaker 2: the Chargers, he's not as liquid as you know, Harris,
- 22:13Speaker 2: you know Commanders or you know, Uh, So I worry
- 22:18Speaker 2: about what it could lead to.
- 22:19Speaker 6: Does that money get put back into football or is
- 22:21Speaker 6: that just money for like my operating I think they.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Can do whatever they want with it. I mean now
- 22:26Speaker 2: I think some owners wanted to use it for like
- 22:29Speaker 2: you know, cash over cap that type of stuff. Because
- 22:33Speaker 2: these more and more teams, it's I think you have
- 22:36Speaker 2: to spend over the cap now, you know, with that
- 22:37Speaker 2: cash and kick it down the road. That's gonna have
- 22:41Speaker 2: to be how you're going to compete. And not every
- 22:44Speaker 2: owner has that available money. You know, you think they do,
- 22:48Speaker 2: but they don't. You know, when when you know an
- 22:52Speaker 2: owner is said to be worth X billion of dollars,
- 22:55Speaker 2: it's because of the valuation of their team and whatever
- 22:58Speaker 2: businesses they have. That doesn't mean they can just take
- 23:01Speaker 2: it out in an ATM. You know, you have to
- 23:03Speaker 2: sell stuff to have that money. So it's and.
- 23:07Speaker 9: Then complicated the product to when like these football guys
- 23:11Speaker 9: like these like a Bill Belichick type, is he going
- 23:14Speaker 9: to make a decision because he's being pressured by some
- 23:18Speaker 9: dude in New York City in a high rise that
- 23:20Speaker 9: works for Goldman Sacks.
- 23:21Speaker 2: Like exactly because of optics? Yeah, yeah, so, I I mean,
- 23:26Speaker 2: this stuff won't come to fruition for like, you know,
- 23:28Speaker 2: another decade or so. But what the effects of this
- 23:30Speaker 2: stuff is, you know, we'll see. I think I'm a little.
- 23:35Speaker 3: Worried often ahead of the curve with these things.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Well, I'm worried about my sport. You know me too, Yeah,
- 23:41Speaker 2: I mean it's football first, but well, I.
- 23:44Speaker 6: Mean, are you you know, if the league were to
- 23:46Speaker 6: take a downturn and you know, not be the upward
- 23:48Speaker 6: trajectory that it's been for so long, does that then
- 23:51Speaker 6: start to rip some of these teams apart?
- 23:53Speaker 8: You know? Does that mean?
- 23:54Speaker 5: Is that kind of what you're getting at with.
- 23:55Speaker 2: That type of stuff? People? It's not getting or the
- 23:58Speaker 2: evaluation is not increasing fast enough. You know, it doesn't
- 24:01Speaker 2: even have to mean that they're falling apart. It's like,
- 24:04Speaker 2: but now I get it. They go in, there's a risk.
- 24:06Speaker 2: You know, there's no guarantees, it's just like any other investment.
- 24:09Speaker 2: But still, you know.
- 24:10Speaker 6: At what points does the NFL hit that wall where
- 24:13Speaker 6: we're everywhere, We're playing games in Brazil and Germany and
- 24:17Speaker 6: you know they've cut up the whole globe basically, at
- 24:21Speaker 6: what point do you I mean, you can only add
- 24:22Speaker 6: so many teams, you can only add so many games,
- 24:24Speaker 6: right or do they just does that?
- 24:26Speaker 5: What has to keep increasing?
- 24:27Speaker 4: I think they're gonna eventually have to implement max contracts,
- 24:31Speaker 4: and I think that that's coming sooner rather than later,
- 24:34Speaker 4: especially at the quarterback position like they have in the NBA,
- 24:37Speaker 4: where you're making a percentage of the cap, you know,
- 24:40Speaker 4: based off of your you know, value in terms of
- 24:43Speaker 4: performance and longevity in the league and all that that.
- 24:46Speaker 2: It's a lot harder to do in the NFL with
- 24:48Speaker 2: the size of the rosters in the NBA when you
- 24:51Speaker 2: have twelve people.
- 24:51Speaker 4: Right, So I would think that almost like the franchise tag,
- 24:54Speaker 4: each position would have like a max contract to try
- 24:58Speaker 4: to curb the increase in the contract. Like, you know,
- 25:02Speaker 4: there's some crazy numbers being thrown out there right now.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Maybe it's my position, you know.
- 25:06Speaker 4: Like Jamar Chase making forty million dollars a year and
- 25:09Speaker 4: his next deal, or you know, T Higgins making thirty
- 25:12Speaker 4: five plus or whatever. And I think eventually that they're
- 25:15Speaker 4: going to have to.
- 25:16Speaker 2: How granular do you get? Is an X is an
- 25:18Speaker 2: X A position versus Y receiver? You know, like how
- 25:23Speaker 2: how does that?
- 25:24Speaker 8: Usually?
- 25:24Speaker 4: Like in the NBA, it's about longevity and production? You know,
- 25:27Speaker 4: like how many all NBA teams have you made? How
- 25:30Speaker 4: you know? How you know? What are your stats? Like
- 25:32Speaker 4: that sort of stuff. So it's it's more it's more easy,
- 25:35Speaker 4: you know, cut and dry. Are you an All NBA
- 25:37Speaker 4: player or are you not?
- 25:38Speaker 2: Well? I know, to me, that's the craziest thing in
- 25:40Speaker 2: the NBA. I'd be I can become a max salary
- 25:44Speaker 2: player in the NBA by what the writers vote on. Yep,
- 25:47Speaker 2: that's crazy to me.
- 25:48Speaker 3: I agree with that.
- 25:49Speaker 4: It is crazy. It's it's how they do it. And
- 25:52Speaker 4: you know the other thing that they they do that's
- 25:54Speaker 4: important too, is is bird rights, where you know, if
- 25:57Speaker 4: you're a player that was drafted by the team, that
- 25:59Speaker 4: team and actually pay you more than the market can.
- 26:02Speaker 4: So you know, Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown are making
- 26:05Speaker 4: more from the Celtics than they could have made on
- 26:07Speaker 4: the open market because they want to increase like like
- 26:12Speaker 4: you know that is going to stay in Milwaukee for example. Whatever,
- 26:15Speaker 4: the spirit of that is good.
- 26:17Speaker 3: Yeah, that makes sense, But I agree with you on
- 26:19Speaker 3: the other thing. It opens the door for a lot
- 26:21Speaker 3: of impropriety. Like what's to stop a player to go
- 26:24Speaker 3: to his media buddies and say, hey, you get me
- 26:27Speaker 3: on the first team all NBA, I'll make it worth
- 26:29Speaker 3: you a while.
- 26:30Speaker 2: Yeah, yep, absolutely right, yep. So money, money, money, you know.
- 26:34Speaker 3: Like you said that, it's a lot easier in the
- 26:37Speaker 3: NBA because the rosters are smaller, but you know, the
- 26:40Speaker 3: numbers are higher though, Yeah, per person, like the Celtics
- 26:43Speaker 3: payrolls better, bigger than the Patriots.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's crazy.
- 26:47Speaker 3: It's ridiculous.
- 26:48Speaker 4: Well yeah, a lot of that's because.
- 26:50Speaker 2: And there's more games. But still, you know, yeah, so
- 26:55Speaker 2: I worried me a little bit, and that kind of
- 26:58Speaker 2: dovetails into the announce meant that the salary cap is
- 27:01Speaker 2: going up across the board. Still they don't have a
- 27:05Speaker 2: final number, but it's you know, it's a significant Yeah,
- 27:09Speaker 2: it's a decent jump.
- 27:10Speaker 3: Which I guess I'm in the vast minority. I don't
- 27:13Speaker 3: think that's great news for us, for the Patriots. I
- 27:15Speaker 3: should say, Yeah, more teams, I get it into the
- 27:18Speaker 3: Athletic Jets writer us and we But the more teams
- 27:24Speaker 3: that have more money, that's more competition to sign players, right,
- 27:28Speaker 3: I mean the Patriots already had a tremendous amount of
- 27:30Speaker 3: cap space. How much more do you need?
- 27:32Speaker 2: Right?
- 27:33Speaker 8: You know?
- 27:33Speaker 3: Now, other teams that maybe had a modest amount of
- 27:35Speaker 3: cap space have a good amount.
- 27:37Speaker 2: Yeah they can. They can jump into the sweepstakes for
- 27:40Speaker 2: a certain player where before they may not have, you know.
- 27:43Speaker 3: But it's I mean, it's good news for the league
- 27:45Speaker 3: that the cap is rising. That much, And.
- 27:51Speaker 2: There was another While you're thinking of that, there's.
- 27:53Speaker 3: Another factor I wanted to throw out there, and.
- 27:55Speaker 2: You mentioned the international games, and you know where that
- 27:58Speaker 2: was it? Yeah, how do you add more players? To
- 28:00Speaker 2: add more games? How to add more teams? You've got
- 28:03Speaker 2: to have more players. You need more talent because I
- 28:05Speaker 2: don't think there's enough talent in the world around to
- 28:08Speaker 2: like start supporting more teams. I really don't. I mean,
- 28:11Speaker 2: you look at the back end of these teams talent
- 28:13Speaker 2: and it really drops off after a certain point. And
- 28:17Speaker 2: now you're going to add teams r I mean, you're
- 28:19Speaker 2: going to just thin out the talent pool even more.
- 28:22Speaker 11: So.
- 28:22Speaker 6: How does the NFL develop their players better? And what
- 28:26Speaker 6: impact is NIL having on this? Is this the right
- 28:29Speaker 6: thing that the league needs right now? Or is this
- 28:30Speaker 6: completely the wrong thing that the league needs right now?
- 28:33Speaker 5: With all these.
- 28:34Speaker 6: Players being able to jump multiple schools and you know,
- 28:37Speaker 6: I don't know. I just wonder if the NFL is
- 28:39Speaker 6: going to continue to grow, they have to reinvest in
- 28:41Speaker 6: development of the players.
- 28:42Speaker 2: Well, I agree with that, you always have to do that,
- 28:44Speaker 2: but the talent pool itself just how many people are
- 28:47Speaker 2: good at playing football in the world, right now is
- 28:50Speaker 2: a set number. You need to increase that number. I mean,
- 28:54Speaker 2: and that's part of the international strategy is get more
- 28:57Speaker 2: people all over the world to be playing American football.
- 29:00Speaker 2: But that's going to take generations, right, I mean, seriously.
- 29:05Speaker 3: You're right, And the finite number that you talk about,
- 29:09Speaker 3: I have to think is is dwindling because of how
- 29:13Speaker 3: many fewer programs are there in high schools.
- 29:16Speaker 2: That's right.
- 29:18Speaker 3: You're losing football programs every year, and so that and
- 29:22Speaker 3: kids take our generations.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Kids don't care and listen. I'm all for flat football.
- 29:28Speaker 2: I love it gets more people at least throwing a
- 29:30Speaker 2: catching a football. But it's not getting people ready to
- 29:33Speaker 2: play football. It's a different game. It's a different game.
- 29:36Speaker 5: It's not football.
- 29:39Speaker 6: I I mean, I talk a lot to you know,
- 29:41Speaker 6: my friend who's the trainer down with IMG Academy down there.
- 29:45Speaker 6: We're talking because Sharon is starting up a youth football
- 29:47Speaker 6: league and he said, I wouldn't have my kid league.
- 29:49Speaker 6: They're not ready yet. He said, I'd rather have them
- 29:51Speaker 6: play football, play flag football, learn how to run, learn
- 29:55Speaker 6: how to catch, you know, learn how to do those
- 29:57Speaker 6: things before you're ready for it. And I think some
- 29:59Speaker 6: kids already I think some kids you look at them,
- 30:01Speaker 6: they're at seventh grade and you're like, this kid's ready.
- 30:03Speaker 6: He looks like he's already six feet tall, two hundred
- 30:05Speaker 6: and fifty pounds.
- 30:06Speaker 5: But I don't know. I mean, I think there is
- 30:08Speaker 5: some some different opinions on that.
- 30:10Speaker 2: But you know, look at a football team. What's the
- 30:12Speaker 2: percentage of players on a given football team who catch
- 30:15Speaker 2: and throw? No, I know it's that's a good point too,
- 30:21Speaker 2: And I'm not like, I mean, I obviously been around
- 30:23Speaker 2: youth football my whole life because my parents were so
- 30:25Speaker 2: heavily involved in it.
- 30:27Speaker 3: You don't have to play youth football to play in
- 30:29Speaker 3: high school, but the problem is if you're not playing,
- 30:32Speaker 3: I think you're less likely to pick it up if
- 30:35Speaker 3: you haven't played. And yeah, you can play flag football
- 30:39Speaker 3: and you know and deem it safer and even though
- 30:42Speaker 3: there's millions of concussions in that too, But that's another
- 30:45Speaker 3: argument for a different day. Once you get to high school.
- 30:50Speaker 3: To Fred's point, that doesn't mean that you're ready to
- 30:53Speaker 3: play high school football, real football if you have If
- 30:56Speaker 3: you don't have the interest in playing, that's the concern
- 31:00Speaker 3: me and Alex, I don't know if you have the
- 31:01Speaker 3: numbers you said that how many high schools that we're losing.
- 31:05Speaker 3: There's a significant amount of programs every year.
- 31:07Speaker 9: That yeah, even back like when I worked at mass Live,
- 31:10Speaker 9: like got my start in high school sports, covering high
- 31:13Speaker 9: school football, and it felt like every year there were
- 31:15Speaker 9: teams consolidating or just losing programs, a.
- 31:18Speaker 8: Lot of it.
- 31:19Speaker 3: There's a lot of it, and some you know, some
- 31:21Speaker 3: teams even that have it, have such small rosters. You know,
- 31:25Speaker 3: there's twenty five guys in the roster.
- 31:27Speaker 2: You know.
- 31:27Speaker 3: Back in the day, you know, even Fred like we're
- 31:31Speaker 3: not that old quote unquote, we had freshman teams, JV teams,
- 31:35Speaker 3: varsity teams. Yep, you know, full rosters and all of them.
- 31:38Speaker 3: You almost never see it now, you know. And I
- 31:41Speaker 3: just get finished. I'm done with high school football now.
- 31:43Speaker 3: With my kids. When my oldest started, they played a
- 31:47Speaker 3: full freshman schedule, full JV schedule, full of varsity schedule.
- 31:52Speaker 3: There's only two years difference between my two kids. When
- 31:55Speaker 3: he just finished, when TJ just finished, they didn't have
- 31:57Speaker 3: any any freshman games at all because there's just not
- 32:00Speaker 3: enough teams around. Like Saint John's PREPP will have a
- 32:02Speaker 3: freshman team yeah, because it's a huge high school, but
- 32:05Speaker 3: almost anybody else.
- 32:06Speaker 9: Yeah, and it feels like the real stars. This is
- 32:08Speaker 9: probably more of a Northeast thing, but like the real
- 32:11Speaker 9: stars are going into your IMG academies, And like Christian
- 32:16Speaker 9: Wilkins comes to mind, like he wasn't playing high school football.
- 32:18Speaker 9: He was going to I think Suffield Academy. So it's
- 32:21Speaker 9: like and even that's a small level school. So it's
- 32:23Speaker 9: just interesting.
- 32:25Speaker 3: But if they're playing, I think they were losing players.
- 32:27Speaker 3: And I think at some point the NFL is going
- 32:29Speaker 3: to feel that because the pool, the talent pool to
- 32:31Speaker 3: draw from, is going to be dwindling.
- 32:33Speaker 6: Yeah, I remember him in lacrosse in California was a
- 32:35Speaker 6: big draw away. I just wonder around here, where are
- 32:37Speaker 6: the kids going? Are they going to other sports or
- 32:39Speaker 6: are they just not?
- 32:40Speaker 3: Their parents are a bit scared senseless. So it's it's
- 32:43Speaker 3: it's do you ever get you ever get a side? Well,
- 32:44Speaker 3: well you don't your kids don't play football. You get
- 32:46Speaker 3: a sideways look from some parents you allow your kid
- 32:49Speaker 3: to play football, like it's you know, ten amounts of
- 32:52Speaker 3: child abuse.
- 32:54Speaker 9: The other end too, you probably have parents that are
- 32:56Speaker 9: so overbooking that their kids and everything they can do,
- 33:00Speaker 9: and then the kids are like, I'm exhausted, I don't
- 33:02Speaker 9: want to do it safe.
- 33:04Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know, and a lot of kids are.
- 33:06Speaker 2: You know, they're focusing on one sport a lot earlier
- 33:09Speaker 2: than they used to. You know, back in our day,
- 33:11Speaker 2: you play, you had three season, you play three sports.
- 33:14Speaker 2: And now some kids are deciding at an earlier age,
- 33:18Speaker 2: I'm just going to be a tennis player. I'm going
- 33:19Speaker 2: to just be a soccer player. I'm just gonna do hockey,
- 33:23Speaker 2: and and they and the sports allow for that because
- 33:27Speaker 2: they've got the clubs and you.
- 33:28Speaker 3: Can sport, you could play virtually sport.
- 33:34Speaker 4: Well, it's funny because I feel like all of the
- 33:37Speaker 4: really good players in the NFL, all of them are
- 33:40Speaker 4: multi sport athletes, a lot of them. And it's funny, like,
- 33:44Speaker 4: you know, Drake may played basketball and could have probably
- 33:47Speaker 4: walked onto North Carolina's basketball team too if you wanted to.
- 33:51Speaker 4: And you know, I ended up just playing football there.
- 33:54Speaker 4: But like he's a very good basketball player too, and
- 33:57Speaker 4: his brother is an even better basketball player, and like
- 34:00Speaker 4: I'm sure he would tell you that a lot of
- 34:02Speaker 4: the basketball stuff translates to football.
- 34:05Speaker 2: You know, a lot of the coaches will tell you
- 34:07Speaker 2: encourage your kids to play as many sports as possible.
- 34:09Speaker 3: And my kids were lucky they all their coaches did that. Yeah,
- 34:12Speaker 3: but some of these high school coaches they want you
- 34:16Speaker 3: you know what's really there's two sports, sorry, dude, one
- 34:19Speaker 3: is one is soccer and one is hockey. They're very
- 34:22Speaker 3: territorial and they want you to play their sport twelve
- 34:24Speaker 3: months a year, and they discourage players from doing it.
- 34:29Speaker 3: My kids were lucky. They never had any coaches in
- 34:32Speaker 3: any sport that they played that didn't want them to
- 34:34Speaker 3: play other sports. But that's a problem. And you do Evans, right.
- 34:39Speaker 3: You hear them talk about how much playing different sports
- 34:42Speaker 3: help them develop in different ways, and I think that
- 34:46Speaker 3: that's going to diminish it also. I think that's a
- 34:48Speaker 3: huge issue.
- 34:50Speaker 2: So, you know, the NFL is king, but they have to,
- 34:55Speaker 2: you know, worry about remaining king. And there's a lot
- 35:00Speaker 2: lot of things down the road that they should be
- 35:03Speaker 2: really paying attention to. And one of them is this
- 35:05Speaker 2: influx of private money coming in to give these owners liquidity,
- 35:11Speaker 2: and but there's gonna be demands that come with that.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Nothing's free in this world.
- 35:15Speaker 6: I think a lot of their stresses on safety too,
- 35:18Speaker 6: and trumpeting reduction and concussions, those kind of things. Those
- 35:21Speaker 6: seem like what the NFL is thinking about when they're targeting,
- 35:24Speaker 6: you know, keeping fresh pool of players and young players excited,
- 35:28Speaker 6: you know about playing. But I see a lot of
- 35:30Speaker 6: youth hockey refereeing.
- 35:32Speaker 5: It's a machine. It's a money grab. There are so.
- 35:34Speaker 6: Many showcases oh yeah, where you're like, these kids ain't
- 35:37Speaker 6: going anywhere and they're you know, you'll be in a
- 35:40Speaker 6: random march and there'll be a team up from Florida
- 35:43Speaker 6: of twelve year old It's like, what are you guys
- 35:45Speaker 6: doing here? Like you can't find some games down there?
- 35:48Speaker 6: I mean, I get playing year round and I smell.
- 35:50Speaker 6: I know, right, they should not have the technology by
- 35:53Speaker 6: this point in Florida.
- 35:54Speaker 2: But it's just I feel bad.
- 35:56Speaker 6: For some of these families where I'm like, you're missing
- 35:57Speaker 6: school right now to like come play thousands of dollars.
- 36:02Speaker 3: That Oh my god, I do I do my fridays
- 36:04Speaker 3: with finance. You know, when we go up in the
- 36:06Speaker 3: Patriot Place every week, how astounded by how many youth
- 36:09Speaker 3: talkey teams are all every week and it's like it's
- 36:12Speaker 3: not a vacation week, the kids are out of school
- 36:15Speaker 3: all the time they're playing in tournament.
- 36:16Speaker 6: I mean, I say with the referees where they're looking
- 36:18Speaker 6: for refs on you know, random Fridays, Mondays, you know
- 36:21Speaker 6: during work day, like the kids are getting pulled out
- 36:23Speaker 6: of school to go play in a crappy show.
- 36:25Speaker 2: So how much if you were to do this like
- 36:27Speaker 2: full time, how much money could you may just being
- 36:30Speaker 2: a ref?
- 36:30Speaker 6: A youth ref Oh, I mean put it this way.
- 36:33Speaker 6: They just say average sixty bucks a game. If you
- 36:35Speaker 6: want to just ref youth hockey. I mean, if you're
- 36:37Speaker 6: talking college.
- 36:38Speaker 5: You know that's your couple hundred four or five hundred.
- 36:40Speaker 5: But if you just want to.
- 36:41Speaker 6: Be enough people like have a make a career, well,
- 36:43Speaker 6: I mean you know, I mean it's hard on your
- 36:46Speaker 6: it's hard.
- 36:46Speaker 3: Should start one of these for COCTA showcase programs and
- 36:50Speaker 3: get people paying thousands.
- 36:51Speaker 4: Of dollars club for every team.
- 36:55Speaker 3: I mean, I just called your t You could take
- 36:57Speaker 3: that as the highest fore lovelman. You you start that,
- 37:02Speaker 3: I'll blog.
- 37:04Speaker 2: It will create this will create this multi tiered university.
- 37:07Speaker 2: We'll have the School of Cloud and Game.
- 37:11Speaker 3: Bring it.
- 37:12Speaker 9: But if you're saying not only is your kid gonna
- 37:14Speaker 9: learn the physical skills, he's gonna learn the mental skills too.
- 37:17Speaker 9: What who else can.
- 37:20Speaker 2: The parents go to that? And then we have anybody,
- 37:23Speaker 2: then we have we have, you know, a hockey school
- 37:27Speaker 2: for fairness and referee.
- 37:29Speaker 6: So, I mean, you guys are joking, but like that's
- 37:32Speaker 6: what's popping up now, Like Level academy over here when
- 37:34Speaker 6: my sister lives in Weymouth, it's a it's basically a
- 37:36Speaker 6: boarding school with hockey now there there, I would say
- 37:39Speaker 6: more like it's a hockey team where hey, let's just
- 37:41Speaker 6: create a school.
- 37:41Speaker 5: We got all these kids, Let's.
- 37:43Speaker 6: Not worry about, you know, having to put them on
- 37:45Speaker 6: con academy or some online thing. Let's have the ability
- 37:48Speaker 6: to just educate them right here. So those are popping up,
- 37:50Speaker 6: I mean mounting.
- 37:51Speaker 9: Schools pop up because popping over some dad wants to
- 37:55Speaker 9: start a school because he's pissed at some taking his
- 37:57Speaker 9: kid to start a whole school around them.
- 37:59Speaker 6: But I would say, Fred, to your point, there are
- 38:01Speaker 6: guys that like they'll do like ten twelve games a weekend.
- 38:04Speaker 6: I mean, and it's like, I mean, my body can't.
- 38:06Speaker 5: Hold up to that anymore.
- 38:07Speaker 3: But I tried fell last week I did.
- 38:09Speaker 8: I did no.
- 38:11Speaker 4: I thought my knee like girls were making I had
- 38:13Speaker 4: to get there, so, you know, I.
- 38:15Speaker 6: Had to like to play like suddenly reversed and it's
- 38:17Speaker 6: going this way, and it was kind of like a
- 38:18Speaker 6: you know, like kind of a fast break, and so
- 38:19Speaker 6: I had to kind of get on my horse a
- 38:20Speaker 6: little bit and I.
- 38:21Speaker 5: Just I kind of got a dead wheel and went down.
- 38:24Speaker 6: And then there's we're in overtime and there's a whole
- 38:26Speaker 6: like little girls team of twelve year olds all standing
- 38:28Speaker 6: on the board and they all started smiling and clapping
- 38:30Speaker 6: for me, and I like, I got you guys next,
- 38:32Speaker 6: I'm going to get you.
- 38:33Speaker 2: Even the sometimes just don't let it get no.
- 38:36Speaker 6: Well, I myself because the coach, uh, you know, go
- 38:39Speaker 6: up talk to the coach before the game and uh
- 38:41Speaker 6: and she said.
- 38:42Speaker 5: Something about like, oh, if you fall, we'll pick you up.
- 38:44Speaker 6: And I'm like, if I fall, like I was all
- 38:46Speaker 6: cocky about like I'm just leaving, I don't fall, like
- 38:48Speaker 6: and I felt so, yeah, that was pretty sort of
- 38:51Speaker 6: in the Super Bowl too. Yeah, but there's money to
- 38:54Speaker 6: be made if you can just sit out there in
- 38:55Speaker 6: ref games and sit at the red line and just
- 38:57Speaker 6: kind of call stuff and mail it in. I mean,
- 38:59Speaker 6: there are guys that are you know, making four or
- 39:01Speaker 6: five hundred bucks in a weekend just reughing. I mean
- 39:03Speaker 6: I think I did five games once in a weekend, and.
- 39:05Speaker 5: It's it's a lot. It's a that's mentally a lot.
- 39:08Speaker 6: Just having to lock in and you know, follow a
- 39:10Speaker 6: youth game for yeah, fifty minutes and mentally exhausted.
- 39:14Speaker 2: And you get the parents yelling that's a trip right there.
- 39:17Speaker 6: Like I heard one of those last week when I
- 39:18Speaker 6: was reughing. I guess dad in the stands like.
- 39:20Speaker 4: Usually trip right there.
- 39:21Speaker 6: I'm like, they kind of collide in the middle of it.
- 39:23Speaker 6: There was no change in possession, Like, guy, you're gonna
- 39:25Speaker 6: rep this game will be all day, Like you call
- 39:27Speaker 6: every single time somebody collides or has a.
- 39:29Speaker 3: Collision, get Brian Morey to be oh his officials. He'd
- 39:32Speaker 3: stop the game and have a conversation.
- 39:34Speaker 2: My god, he would, he would, he would, he would
- 39:37Speaker 2: shut everything down, and he'd be in the stands talking
- 39:41Speaker 2: to parents.
- 39:42Speaker 6: I've reveled with guys like that, you know, and usually
- 39:44Speaker 6: it's fun with with the parents that get out.
- 39:46Speaker 5: You know, rule out really unruly, unruly.
- 39:48Speaker 2: Thank you yes, unruly because you know, you.
- 39:50Speaker 6: Just point out him and leave, and if they don't leave,
- 39:52Speaker 6: you start running the clock and you just sit there
- 39:54Speaker 6: and shame him and stare at him. And so I mean,
- 39:55Speaker 6: I've only seen that happen a couple of times, but it's, uh,
- 39:57Speaker 6: it's pretty fun making them do the walk of shame
- 39:59Speaker 6: out of the kids freaking hockey game because they can't
- 40:01Speaker 6: just shut their mouth.
- 40:02Speaker 4: I'm worried about that. For me, I'm not gonna lie
- 40:04Speaker 4: no oh yeah, because like when we go to games,
- 40:08Speaker 4: like like Bruins games and stuff, I'm a chirper and
- 40:11Speaker 4: I'm like, we're gonna have kids, and I'm gonna really like,
- 40:15Speaker 4: I'm gonna have Yeah.
- 40:18Speaker 3: I first started, so it was.
- 40:22Speaker 2: So bad, was playing and that's so bad. This is
- 40:27Speaker 2: like one of those travel things that they had to
- 40:29Speaker 2: have the parents sign this thing that they were going
- 40:32Speaker 2: to adhere to. So there was a special game where
- 40:34Speaker 2: his grandparents came down from New Hampshire.
- 40:37Speaker 6: And his grandfather starts chirping and somebody I didn't sign.
- 40:42Speaker 2: I'm the grandfather. I didn't sign anything.
- 40:47Speaker 3: Grandparents can in particular be tough at those games.
- 40:50Speaker 2: I didn't sign anything.
- 40:51Speaker 5: Got in a fight at one of my high school
- 40:54Speaker 5: all the time, Well there were I mean, I was
- 40:57Speaker 5: out of the game.
- 40:59Speaker 6: Well that's what it was. It was, I was out
- 41:00Speaker 6: of the game. I broke my wrists were watching the game.
- 41:02Speaker 6: There were a bunch of you know, Saturday, a bunch
- 41:03Speaker 6: of kids who probably.
- 41:04Speaker 2: Weren't even playing it.
- 41:05Speaker 6: I was a new plant where there was you didn't
- 41:07Speaker 6: break your wrist in that, No, no, no, I just
- 41:09Speaker 6: I was having to sit it out. And a period
- 41:11Speaker 6: ends and there are a bunch of kids, probably drinking,
- 41:13Speaker 6: you know, being loud. The ad had been telling them
- 41:16Speaker 6: to leave and talking to them, and you could tell
- 41:18Speaker 6: that there was some tension.
- 41:19Speaker 5: I'm staying on my dad. End of the period. My
- 41:20Speaker 5: Dad's like, I'm gonna go get a drinker, go tobut whatever.
- 41:23Speaker 5: He walks away, and I'm standing there waiting for the example,
- 41:26Speaker 5: and he go around around and all of a sudden
- 41:27Speaker 5: you just see like a tussle on the stands and
- 41:29Speaker 5: it's like one of them, you know, people falling and
- 41:31Speaker 5: like what's going on?
- 41:32Speaker 8: And then he's like, your dad just fought Andy Patterson.
- 41:36Speaker 2: Dude, Like what you know?
- 41:39Speaker 12: And so find out every time, Oh, my dad has
- 41:44Speaker 12: never even close, But then it was the you know,
- 41:46Speaker 12: the next day was fan fight Mars Hollist and victory.
- 41:49Speaker 5: In the Middlesex Daily News.
- 41:51Speaker 6: Poor Eddie du going up and you know, one of
- 41:53Speaker 6: these drunk kids.
- 41:54Speaker 4: Being like if you I'm not leaving, Bubba, my dad's
- 41:57Speaker 4: like you're leaving.
- 41:58Speaker 2: He marches out there and Eddie him, Eddie do.
- 42:00Speaker 5: So then't mess with him.
- 42:05Speaker 2: That's funny, good stuff.
- 42:08Speaker 3: One very minor piece of news that I guess. They
- 42:12Speaker 3: announced that the Chargers will be the host team for
- 42:15Speaker 3: that Brazil game. Right, got eliminade Patriots?
- 42:17Speaker 13: Right?
- 42:18Speaker 2: So the only openings now is Madrid or London or
- 42:21Speaker 2: London Madrid?
- 42:24Speaker 4: You're coming?
- 42:25Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 42:28Speaker 3: I was just going to begging, Yeah, would you be
- 42:31Speaker 3: in BRAZILO?
- 42:31Speaker 5: Wouldn't you be in Brazil?
- 42:32Speaker 2: Well?
- 42:32Speaker 9: Can we even leave the hotel in Brazil? Like would
- 42:34Speaker 9: it be worth it? Unless we were the host team
- 42:37Speaker 9: and doing events and stuff?
- 42:39Speaker 4: I definitely have across from Madrid myself.
- 42:43Speaker 2: Well, no matter where we go, we would do some
- 42:45Speaker 2: type of fan event. So home, you know, whether we're
- 42:49Speaker 2: the home team or they are the one.
- 42:52Speaker 4: Like we had a lot of fun at that.
- 42:55Speaker 2: That was was Beatles. Yeah, that was epic. It's like
- 43:04Speaker 2: they sang a song for me. That's what they do. Driver,
- 43:08Speaker 2: turn the car around.
- 43:09Speaker 5: We're going back.
- 43:10Speaker 4: Literally literally they wanted to.
- 43:12Speaker 2: He called me and wanted to come back a third time.
- 43:15Speaker 2: They said, no, you don't need to. It's cleared out.
- 43:19Speaker 6: Crazy, it's and then are you going to do something
- 43:21Speaker 6: at the combine? Is that what the rumblings were, They're
- 43:23Speaker 6: gonna have a lazarre night.
- 43:24Speaker 2: Well, well, I was going to get to that email
- 43:27Speaker 2: at some point, you know. Sorry, so I'll get to
- 43:32Speaker 2: that at some point, but I do want it. There's
- 43:34Speaker 2: a lot of emails coming in a lot of emails
- 43:37Speaker 2: podcasts at Patriots dot Com. This one comes from Peter
- 43:41Speaker 2: and Cambridge. He says, for Matt, first of all, just
- 43:44Speaker 2: listen to the Tuesday podcast. In the outro included a
- 43:48Speaker 2: Catch twenty two teaser, but it still says every Thursday,
- 43:51Speaker 2: need a new cutoff for uh cut off season ones.
- 43:55Speaker 2: I don't know what that means for Evan. Relatedly, UH,
- 43:58Speaker 2: is there any chance Catch twenty two can be on
- 44:01Speaker 2: Tuesday or even Monday next season. I love your game takes,
- 44:05Speaker 2: but by Thursday it's a little late. At that point,
- 44:07Speaker 2: I'm over and I really just want to look forward,
- 44:09Speaker 2: not back. Probably not right.
- 44:11Speaker 4: Probably is the right answer. Monday's no chance, but I
- 44:18Speaker 4: hear what people are saying. But you know, we like
- 44:21Speaker 4: to talk about the previous game too, So it is
- 44:23Speaker 4: what it is.
- 44:24Speaker 2: And for Fred as an initialism, PU stinks it's true,
- 44:30Speaker 2: admit it. In an early email after the name change,
- 44:33Speaker 2: one person wrote in and called it PUP. You objected,
- 44:37Speaker 2: but I assume they were saying Patriots Unfiltered Podcast. Pup
- 44:40Speaker 2: is a much better initialism football related and now that
- 44:44Speaker 2: Megan has gone applies to the hosts I e. Physically
- 44:47Speaker 2: unable to play. Also, tell your IT department to redirect
- 44:51Speaker 2: emails to podcasts at Patriots dot com to podcasts. It's
- 44:55Speaker 2: easy to do, and you shouldn't be spending any time
- 44:57Speaker 2: or energy making sure your listeners spell. That's a of
- 45:00Speaker 2: all those things, that's the best idea that's going to
- 45:02Speaker 2: just make sure that they're all routed to the same
- 45:04Speaker 2: place with.
- 45:05Speaker 4: All the podcast and make sure.
- 45:08Speaker 9: Yeah, well this makes sense because I feel like Fred
- 45:12Speaker 9: was marketing it with the wrong email initially, so and
- 45:18Speaker 9: that's why I.
- 45:19Speaker 5: Did with PU. That's my handle on Instagram, PU Deuce
- 45:22Speaker 5: I leaned into it.
- 45:23Speaker 9: You give us so many puns to us?
- 45:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I like it's fine. I think people have gotten
- 45:27Speaker 2: used to it, right.
- 45:28Speaker 4: Yeah, you that's kind of funny.
- 45:30Speaker 5: Where did that come from?
- 45:31Speaker 8: Though? PU?
- 45:31Speaker 14: Like?
- 45:33Speaker 6: I know I'm saying, but like the the U stink
- 45:34Speaker 6: thing like PU you stink? Like, where did that come from?
- 45:36Speaker 2: Oh? What's the origins of the pu pu?
- 45:41Speaker 5: What does that stand for?
- 45:42Speaker 3: I don't know, I don't know.
- 45:43Speaker 2: There was a way you look it up? Somebody uh
- 45:47Speaker 2: Byron in Australia, speaking of international says he never misses
- 45:51Speaker 2: a podcast. Thank you. I know Evant isn't keen and
- 45:53Speaker 2: the rest of you bok and he spells bock b
- 45:56Speaker 2: a u l k. That must be the Australian way
- 45:58Speaker 2: of uh at the travel time. But it'd be incredible
- 46:03Speaker 2: to have the legendary Patriots down under and we wouldn't
- 46:06Speaker 2: disappoint a few extra shrimp on the barbie and some
- 46:08Speaker 2: bud Lights, the official beer of the Mighty Patriots. Please
- 46:12Speaker 2: let the dream come true. And finally, as they can
- 46:15Speaker 2: almost feel Paul saying in his head, get to the question.
- 46:19Speaker 3: No, I'm all for the Australia trip. I'm with this guy.
- 46:22Speaker 9: Me and Paul are the only ones I.
- 46:23Speaker 3: Think I'm gonna go. No, but I would like to
- 46:28Speaker 3: go to Australia. Times.
- 46:30Speaker 2: You got to make what's an Australia that we don't
- 46:32Speaker 2: have here?
- 46:33Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 46:33Speaker 9: For snakes, it's just the animal exotic animals like quala
- 46:37Speaker 9: bears and stuff. Other than that, it's like California with
- 46:40Speaker 9: probably not a stoid food.
- 46:41Speaker 2: But Abdul Carter is my pick at four as I
- 46:44Speaker 2: feel we are desperate for a past rush. It makes
- 46:47Speaker 2: the most sense. With Garrett requesting a trade and the
- 46:50Speaker 2: likelihood Joey Bosa is cut soon to save La Cap money.
- 46:54Speaker 2: Who should we target more Garrett? I know would cost
- 46:57Speaker 2: the farm, But what's realistic for Bosa? And is he
- 47:00Speaker 2: worth a shot? Yeah? That was reported today that they're
- 47:04Speaker 2: gonna cut him.
- 47:05Speaker 4: Yeah, he's had injury injury issues issues with just in general.
- 47:09Speaker 4: Like he's kind of one of those guys that's starting
- 47:11Speaker 4: to sputter out a little bit here toward the end.
- 47:13Speaker 4: I wouldn't be overly interested in him. I think he's
- 47:17Speaker 4: best suited for a contender that if he can stay healthy.
- 47:20Speaker 4: You know, it's kind of that piece that that puts
- 47:22Speaker 4: you over the top like the Patriots used to do.
- 47:25Speaker 2: But I think he would be good.
- 47:27Speaker 4: I don't think it makes sense for the Patriots.
- 47:28Speaker 2: I mean, I don't like depending on the cost, but
- 47:31Speaker 2: I'm assuming that he wouldn't come at too high a
- 47:34Speaker 2: price and you don't have to give up an asset
- 47:36Speaker 2: to get him.
- 47:36Speaker 3: Right, probably has a relationship with Rabel.
- 47:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I would, I would. I would bring him in.
- 47:41Speaker 2: I would bring him in.
- 47:42Speaker 4: I would just rather go younger. Like, there's a lot
- 47:44Speaker 4: of really good options and both the draft in free
- 47:46Speaker 4: agency this year for guys that are in their prime.
- 47:49Speaker 2: Do both.
- 47:50Speaker 4: Okay, I don't know. I'm not like crazy about like.
- 47:54Speaker 2: It doesn't He's not the answer.
- 47:56Speaker 4: I don't worry about those guys. Just don't move.
- 47:59Speaker 2: But don't bring him in as the answer. Just bring
- 48:02Speaker 2: him in as help.
- 48:05Speaker 5: To me, it just goes.
- 48:06Speaker 6: Back to where are we as a franchise and are
- 48:08Speaker 6: we trying to Like I do think I do think
- 48:12Speaker 6: we need some veteran leadership, tone setter type guys, and
- 48:16Speaker 6: I do think that they need talent for sure, but
- 48:19Speaker 6: you also want to balance it out with making wise
- 48:22Speaker 6: investments on younger players. And that's why it's like having
- 48:25Speaker 6: the most cap room and all that stuff that people
- 48:27Speaker 6: want to trumpet. It doesn't get me that excited. Pick
- 48:29Speaker 6: the right players. I don't care about having all the money,
- 48:31Speaker 6: but you take the right You need the right chemistry.
- 48:34Speaker 2: You know you need tone setters, and you know you
- 48:37Speaker 2: need that too, you need the balance.
- 48:39Speaker 4: But if you sign a guy like Joey Bosa and
- 48:41Speaker 4: then you're gonna draft somebody if you better from this
- 48:44Speaker 4: defensive line class, or you're dumb, so you better draft
- 48:47Speaker 4: somebody from this defensive line class. So like, now, all
- 48:50Speaker 4: of a sudden, Joey Bosa is blocking that guy's development
- 48:52Speaker 4: and stuff.
- 48:53Speaker 2: Like, I'd just figure it out.
- 48:55Speaker 4: I would rather much rather play play the kids at
- 48:57Speaker 4: that point.
- 48:58Speaker 2: Especially so what.
- 48:59Speaker 3: If you had just out of like this email, Like
- 49:01Speaker 3: what if you drafted Abdul Cotter and signed Joey Bosa.
- 49:04Speaker 3: Why is one of those guys blocking the other?
- 49:06Speaker 4: It wouldn't necessarily block it. I just in that case,
- 49:09Speaker 4: but abdul Carter is not happening.
- 49:11Speaker 3: But no, Red picked whatever name you want for defensive end.
- 49:15Speaker 4: I would rather guys that have stuff left in the tank,
- 49:17Speaker 4: Like I just.
- 49:18Speaker 3: I don't I don't like Joey Bosa that's different.
- 49:20Speaker 4: I don't like any of that kind of player honestly.
- 49:22Speaker 4: Like for them, I just h well, he's not a
- 49:25Speaker 4: high motor guy.
- 49:27Speaker 3: Doesn't high motor. Yeah, Joey Bosa is kind of known
- 49:31Speaker 3: as a guy who gets hurt a lot A lot
- 49:33Speaker 3: of time.
- 49:33Speaker 2: He gets hurt a lot, I know, but when he's
- 49:35Speaker 2: in there, he's you know, I don't think he's a
- 49:37Speaker 2: high motives to be relentless.
- 49:39Speaker 5: Milescarre would be difference. He's a great player, sure, I
- 49:41Speaker 5: like that.
- 49:42Speaker 6: That's a player that I think he was great, special
- 49:44Speaker 6: and yeah he's a little bit older, but it's different
- 49:46Speaker 6: to me than Joey Bosa.
- 49:48Speaker 4: I would just like to see they have the money
- 49:50Speaker 4: in the resources to target people in their prime. So,
- 49:53Speaker 4: like again, like I said, Joey Bosa is a great
- 49:56Speaker 4: fit for a contender that is just looking for some
- 49:59Speaker 4: finishing pieces, that's just looking for guys, veteran guys like
- 50:02Speaker 4: the Patriots used to do all the time, you know,
- 50:04Speaker 4: and try to find those types of players. I just
- 50:07Speaker 4: I'm not necessarily also wouldn't really look at Joey Bosa
- 50:11Speaker 4: as like a poster child of what I want my
- 50:14Speaker 4: young defensive end. But It's like.
- 50:17Speaker 2: I know that in hindsight, we know that the one
- 50:20Speaker 2: Patriots were closer to being good than we thought they
- 50:22Speaker 2: were at the time, you know, the beginning of the season.
- 50:25Speaker 2: But they brought in like guys like Brian Cox, you know,
- 50:29Speaker 2: and these are veteran guys that were hungry, they wanted
- 50:32Speaker 2: to win, and they said they set a tone. You
- 50:36Speaker 2: need those guys. Now, it doesn't have to be Joey Bosa,
- 50:38Speaker 2: but it can all be young guys. You need some
- 50:41Speaker 2: people to set examples for the young guys.
- 50:44Speaker 4: Yeah, I would just you know, I'd rather people in
- 50:46Speaker 4: their twenties, Like, if you're gonna sign guys, like, let's
- 50:49Speaker 4: sign somebody that's twenty eight instead of thirty. I mean,
- 50:53Speaker 4: I don't know how I know in terms of.
- 50:57Speaker 3: Like Bosa has been much more durable.
- 51:00Speaker 4: Better, he's a better player.
- 51:02Speaker 2: Let's see twenty nine this year. Roankey from Indie Ronky's
- 51:08Speaker 2: from Indy, he said, a big fan of both PU
- 51:11Speaker 2: and Catch twenty two. I live in Indianapolis and was
- 51:14Speaker 2: curious if it would at be all possible to meet
- 51:16Speaker 2: Evan and Alex. As long as I've lived in India,
- 51:20Speaker 2: I've never been to Saint Almo. I'd be it would
- 51:22Speaker 2: be an item to scratch off my bucket list and
- 51:24Speaker 2: be able to have my first visit to Saint Almo
- 51:27Speaker 2: to include sitting down and getting to talk Patriots football
- 51:30Speaker 2: with you guys. If so, when will you guys be
- 51:32Speaker 2: here and what times? I understand you both will be
- 51:34Speaker 2: here to work, so I wouldn't want to impede on
- 51:36Speaker 2: that anyway. Love the show, keep up the work. So
- 51:39Speaker 2: I think we're onto something here. I think we should
- 51:41Speaker 2: have a meet and greet you and Alex. You can
- 51:44Speaker 2: give away signed copies of your mon draft, your latest mantraft,
- 51:48Speaker 2: and you can you can meet people.
- 51:50Speaker 9: Yeah, right, photos.
- 51:51Speaker 6: It might be hard to do it at Saint Almo's
- 51:53Speaker 6: in the prime of the combine.
- 51:55Speaker 5: Yea to sit down conversation that might be.
- 51:57Speaker 2: Now you just stand around the bar like you weren't
- 51:59Speaker 2: invited in.
- 52:00Speaker 3: I don't know why you're.
- 52:00Speaker 2: Worried about here.
- 52:02Speaker 5: I'll be in my room sleep.
- 52:03Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a little bit bent out of shape.
- 52:05Speaker 4: We get Mike out like a little bit. One night
- 52:08Speaker 4: on Monday night, we get Mike out, and then the
- 52:11Speaker 4: rest of the week, I'm like, you come in and.
- 52:13Speaker 6: One of that basketball game for sure. I'll go to
- 52:15Speaker 6: a Pacers game again.
- 52:15Speaker 15: That was fun.
- 52:16Speaker 4: I think they're playing Wednesday night, Monday and Wednesday night.
- 52:20Speaker 5: Actually, but do that little little group outing twelve.
- 52:22Speaker 2: I was trying to think the other day was did
- 52:25Speaker 2: there used to be a place? So maybe there is
- 52:27Speaker 2: still in Indiana. Maybe it's where University Indiana place called
- 52:30Speaker 2: the Barn? Yeah, what is that?
- 52:33Speaker 4: That's that's where the Pacers play. They call it the Barn.
- 52:36Speaker 2: Oh, they do call it the Barn, I believe.
- 52:38Speaker 3: So yeah, Field still Canseco Fieldhouse.
- 52:41Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I don't know it's still field House something field.
- 52:44Speaker 3: I think it's a band.
- 52:45Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I'm pretty sure that's what.
- 52:46Speaker 2: It is, because I was like Indian, I know they
- 52:48Speaker 2: called something in Indiana the Barn.
- 52:50Speaker 3: It's a great basketball venue, it is. Yeah, it's one
- 52:53Speaker 3: of them, you know, new issue and it's not that
- 52:55Speaker 3: new anymore, but it was. It's a really good place.
- 52:58Speaker 4: Steep though those bleachers.
- 53:00Speaker 2: That's a good part with us right on top of it.
- 53:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 53:03Speaker 3: Yeah, like the old garden falcony.
- 53:06Speaker 2: Oh sure you can't do that no more.
- 53:08Speaker 8: Sure.
- 53:08Speaker 2: All right, my foods here, So we're gonna take a break.
- 53:11Speaker 2: A lot of calls. A lot of emails coming in uh,
- 53:14Speaker 2: and we'll get to them right after this.

- 54:28Speaker 18: NFL history.
- 54:29Speaker 3: We're going to get to that later. I'm going to
- 54:30Speaker 3: get that out of here.
- 54:31Speaker 18: You're Paul Perlo here. He's number eighty seven on your scorecard,
- 54:34Speaker 18: but number one in everybody's hearts.
- 54:36Speaker 13: Rob Gronkowski, what an introduction, guys. I appreciate that, love
- 54:40Speaker 13: h thank you.
- 54:41Speaker 8: I played the number.
- 54:42Speaker 13: One organization of all times as well, so it was
- 54:45Speaker 13: a great matchup to have the number one tight end
- 54:48Speaker 13: pointing for the number one organization.
- 54:50Speaker 8: Baby, that's what's up.
- 54:51Speaker 3: That fifteen AFC Championship game, to me, is one of
- 54:54Speaker 3: the most ridiculous performances by you and Tom, you know,
- 54:58Speaker 3: just because of how good that defense was, and especially
- 55:01Speaker 3: that day. You know, von Miller was the best defensive
- 55:04Speaker 3: player on the planet that day. He dominated up front.
- 55:08Speaker 3: But you guys just keep hanging around and hanging around.
- 55:10Speaker 3: It's fourth and ten, and you guys, you know connect.
- 55:14Speaker 3: Tom just says, go down the scene and make a play.
- 55:17Speaker 3: Do you remember this catch that I'm talking about? Because
- 55:19Speaker 3: for me, I know you made some circus catches that
- 55:21Speaker 3: were incredible, But to me, I think it was TJ.
- 55:25Speaker 3: Ward hanging on you who you had a.
- 55:27Speaker 4: Little history with as well.
- 55:29Speaker 3: Just take me through that play. That catch was amazing.
- 55:32Speaker 13: I remember, like Chris, that was awesome.
- 55:34Speaker 8: It wasn't awesome, it was amazing. It was fourth and
- 55:36Speaker 8: ten and our season was on the line after.
- 55:38Speaker 13: Number that play to the exact t and from what
- 55:42Speaker 13: I recall, actually.
- 55:45Speaker 8: What was called in the huddle.
- 55:47Speaker 13: Was a screen pass to the left, and Brady switched
- 55:50Speaker 13: to play right away and he called all goes and
- 55:53Speaker 13: I was like, yeah, that's right, all goes.
- 55:56Speaker 8: I'm ready to go, baby, I'm on fire right now.
- 55:59Speaker 8: I'm not ending the season like this.
- 56:00Speaker 13: We're gonna get this first down and I'm just gonna
- 56:03Speaker 13: take off.
- 56:04Speaker 8: And when I'm taking off, Brady can read that.
- 56:06Speaker 13: You know, this guy's got a mind of his own,
- 56:08Speaker 13: Like he can tell if a player is rolling down
- 56:11Speaker 13: the field or now he knows when the player is
- 56:13Speaker 13: going full speed, and that's who he always goes to.
- 56:16Speaker 13: Like he can read the decisiveness of a wide receiver
- 56:20Speaker 13: or a tight end or a running back to the
- 56:21Speaker 13: te and that's how he always knew what guy to
- 56:24Speaker 13: go to. And he always knew who was on fire
- 56:26Speaker 13: at the moment and who wasn't, and he could tell
- 56:28Speaker 13: my eyes. Right when we broke that hud, I was like, oh,
- 56:30Speaker 13: you better just toss his ball up. I was like,
- 56:32Speaker 13: I don't care who's in front of me, and right
- 56:33Speaker 13: when that thing was hike boom, I just took off
- 56:36Speaker 13: and they had that safety he was all pro.
- 56:38Speaker 8: Actually I was double coverage.
- 56:39Speaker 13: I had a linebacker right to my actually safety to
- 56:41Speaker 13: my left, and the other safety right to my right,
- 56:44Speaker 13: and I just split him and went right through him,
- 56:47Speaker 13: right down the middle, right up to see him, and
- 56:49Speaker 13: Brady just launched that ball up.
- 56:50Speaker 8: I was like, yeah, that's right.
- 56:51Speaker 13: I'm gonna go grab this thing and we're going to
- 56:53Speaker 13: continue this drive and our season is not ending right now.
- 56:57Speaker 8: And I just went up there, put the ball right
- 57:00Speaker 8: on the money.
- 57:01Speaker 13: I just put my hands out, brought it in, got
- 57:03Speaker 13: hit right both ways on my right, in my left
- 57:06Speaker 13: right at the same time, and brought it in.
- 57:08Speaker 8: Man. And let me tell you, I was out of breath.
- 57:10Speaker 8: I was like, WHOA.
- 57:11Speaker 13: I knew our season wasn't gonna end, but I was like, oh,
- 57:14Speaker 13: help me up because I can't breathe right now. And
- 57:17Speaker 13: then I kind of took off, like the next three
- 57:19Speaker 13: plays like like I kind of just chipped the back
- 57:22Speaker 13: the touchdown. Well, I was, I was in on the plays,
- 57:25Speaker 13: but I kind of took off. I just kind of
- 57:26Speaker 13: lasts of days ago through it, you know, just because
- 57:29Speaker 13: I was so winded from that play and being up
- 57:31Speaker 13: you know, at the mile high. And also I was
- 57:34Speaker 13: sick for that game. I swear I had food poisoning, man,
- 57:37Speaker 13: I was. I was basically throwing up on the sideline.
- 57:39Speaker 13: It was brutal, but hey, I always come through in
- 57:42Speaker 13: the clutch, and when the season's on the line, you
- 57:44Speaker 13: always throw that ball up to Robbie g Baby. And
- 57:46Speaker 13: then I had that two point conversion as well that
- 57:49Speaker 13: I was double coverage, double covered on and I kind
- 57:52Speaker 13: of jumped over the guys and you know, controlled my
- 57:54Speaker 13: body to go and make the catch and Tom just
- 57:56Speaker 13: threw it up there.
- 57:56Speaker 8: Again.
- 57:56Speaker 13: It was fourth and two, and actually no, it was
- 57:58Speaker 13: a two point conversion.
- 57:59Speaker 8: No, it was a touchdown.
- 58:00Speaker 3: It was a touchdown.
- 58:01Speaker 8: It was a touchdown. It was fourth down, it was
- 58:03Speaker 8: fourth and goal.
- 58:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I wasn't going to bring oversion because they didn't
- 58:06Speaker 3: throw it.
- 58:07Speaker 8: Now we're not talking about the version. I was open though.
- 58:11Speaker 18: A couple other games, rob uh fourteen, the Jonas Gray game.
- 58:16Speaker 18: Oh you, I mean you had an unbelievable touchdown where
- 58:20Speaker 18: it seems like you literally ran through every member of
- 58:22Speaker 18: the Colts. But we're talking about the play where you
- 58:26Speaker 18: threw Sergio. You you threw Sergio out of the club.
- 58:30Speaker 18: That's what everybody remembers about.
- 58:31Speaker 8: That game, Yes they do.
- 58:33Speaker 2: I mean that's a real tight end.
- 58:35Speaker 8: Like, yeah, that's a real time disrespect to.
- 58:37Speaker 18: Some of these other guys with pass catchers. But you're
- 58:39Speaker 18: a blocking guy too. I am the dark and you're
- 58:41Speaker 18: going to block your ass off, yes, and you blocked
- 58:43Speaker 18: your ass off on that play, that's for sure.
- 58:45Speaker 8: I had a lot of pride in my blocking.
- 58:48Speaker 9: Man.
- 58:48Speaker 8: I love blocking. I truly believe that, you know.
- 58:50Speaker 13: It helped me, you know, in the passing game as well,
- 58:53Speaker 13: helped me get open in the play action, and it
- 58:55Speaker 13: just you know, I truly I just always felt and
- 58:59Speaker 13: believed in as a tie just when I when I
- 59:01Speaker 13: started playing the position that you had to do both, man,
- 59:03Speaker 13: that's what it's all about, you know, doing the dirty
- 59:05Speaker 13: work and then also going out there and making plays
- 59:07Speaker 13: as well in the passing game. But on that play,
- 59:10Speaker 13: I mean, sur Jioe Brown came in with me here
- 59:13Speaker 13: with the New England Pages. He was a free agent
- 59:14Speaker 13: that year out of Notre Dame. And he was a
- 59:16Speaker 13: great player. He was a safety here, Uh he was.
- 59:19Speaker 13: He was a great special teamer. And then he went
- 59:22Speaker 13: over to the Colts and uh, you know, he did
- 59:24Speaker 13: great things for us while he was here with the Pages.
- 59:27Speaker 13: But that game, man, he just went and stopped talking. Man,
- 59:29Speaker 13: he just went stop, you know, you know, trying to
- 59:32Speaker 13: get under my skin. And let me tell you, he
- 59:35Speaker 13: eventually got under my skin. And when you get under
- 59:37Speaker 13: my skin talking garbage, you know, it's not gonna be
- 59:39Speaker 13: good for you on that defensive side of the ball.
- 59:42Speaker 13: And that's what happened. And finally I just ticked it.
- 59:44Speaker 13: I was like a ticking time bomb the whole game.
- 59:46Speaker 13: He just kept going off and off, talking garbage. And
- 59:48Speaker 13: then finally he just he hit it. He hit that switch.
- 59:52Speaker 13: And then I saw I noticed that play like, all right,
- 59:55Speaker 13: one on one right here, I'm just gonna drive. I'm
- 59:57Speaker 13: gonna drive your butt all the way until I I
- 1:00:00Speaker 13: can't drive you anymore, until you get planted, you know,
- 1:00:03Speaker 13: into the ground. And that's basically what happened, man, That's
- 1:00:06Speaker 13: why after the game, I was sitting there with Chris Collinsworth.
- 1:00:09Speaker 8: I was like, hey, Chris conwer, he was just yapping
- 1:00:11Speaker 8: too much. I had to throw him out of the club.
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: So a lot of great catches. You know, there was
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: another one in a Denver game at home. Is there
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: a catch, one particular catch that stands out among the
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: rest of them?
- 1:00:22Speaker 18: Four It was in fourteen as well, here against Denver.
- 1:00:25Speaker 18: Tom throws that up and he goes, how did you
- 1:00:28Speaker 18: catch that ball?
- 1:00:29Speaker 8: You know, I kind of made Tom's career if you
- 1:00:33Speaker 8: really think about it. Same with Julian, same with Moss.
- 1:00:35Speaker 13: I mean Tom should be, you know, thanking us by
- 1:00:38Speaker 13: selling us a gift every every single year, like a
- 1:00:41Speaker 13: four wheeler for Christmas, would be much appreciated for all all.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: Those you know you're going to get things.
- 1:00:47Speaker 13: I know I'm just messing around, but uh, you know
- 1:00:50Speaker 13: I want to be here without Tom and uh but yeah,
- 1:00:53Speaker 13: I would say one of my favorite catches was versus
- 1:00:57Speaker 13: the Buffalo Bills, and and the your truth to catch
- 1:01:00Speaker 13: happened because Tom put the ball. He placed the ball
- 1:01:03Speaker 13: where only I could go and make the play because
- 1:01:05Speaker 13: I was kind of covered. I was I was going
- 1:01:07Speaker 13: versus the All Pro safety man names. Man, we're out
- 1:01:10Speaker 13: of the league for a little bit. You gotta look
- 1:01:12Speaker 13: back and you can't get the names right in the spy.
- 1:01:14Speaker 13: I mean, that's not good. But there's so many memories
- 1:01:16Speaker 13: and so many players that's hard. But I was going
- 1:01:18Speaker 13: All Pro safety. I was spread out wide one on one.
- 1:01:21Speaker 13: It was right here in Jillette Stadium, this corner right there,
- 1:01:25Speaker 13: the opposite corner, left side of the lighthouse, yep. And
- 1:01:30Speaker 13: he threw it up there and I was on the
- 1:01:32Speaker 13: two yard line.
- 1:01:33Speaker 8: I just reached back like that.
- 1:01:34Speaker 13: It was a one hander versus my hometown Buffalo Bills,
- 1:01:38Speaker 13: and vaguely just brought it in, didn't even use my
- 1:01:42Speaker 13: second hand, brought it in, toe tapped into the end
- 1:01:45Speaker 13: zone and then fell.
- 1:01:47Speaker 8: So it was a one handed grab. Baby. It was
- 1:01:49Speaker 8: a beauty. It was one of my favorite catches.
- 1:01:51Speaker 18: We're gonna wrap this up here in a second, but
- 1:01:53Speaker 18: I gotta ask you this one. You talked about Super
- 1:01:55Speaker 18: Bowl fourteen. How much it mentioned everything like that? The
- 1:01:58Speaker 18: Kansas City game. It wasn't a super Bowl. It got
- 1:02:03Speaker 18: you to the super Bowl. That was your last year.
- 1:02:07Speaker 5: How great was that?
- 1:02:09Speaker 18: Kind of like the last call? But for Rob Gronkowski's part.
- 1:02:13Speaker 18: You know in that Kansas City game in the cold,
- 1:02:15Speaker 18: you know that that team's on the come, here they come,
- 1:02:18Speaker 18: and everything like that.
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: That was a game.
- 1:02:21Speaker 8: I don't want to put words in your mouth.
- 1:02:23Speaker 5: How great was that game?
- 1:02:24Speaker 13: That was one of the greatest AC Championship games you
- 1:02:26Speaker 13: could ever imagine or ever be out. It was probably
- 1:02:29Speaker 13: the greatest AFC Championship game, which was wild. I was
- 1:02:32Speaker 13: actually hanging over with I was hanging out with my
- 1:02:35Speaker 13: nephews about four weeks ago, and they're starting to get
- 1:02:37Speaker 13: to the age where they understand things now. They understand,
- 1:02:40Speaker 13: you know that I played in the NFL, that I'm.
- 1:02:42Speaker 8: On YouTube and everything.
- 1:02:43Speaker 13: And I was just sitting there and my little nephew
- 1:02:46Speaker 13: he goes and puts YouTube on me, and he types
- 1:02:48Speaker 13: in my name and he puts the last five minutes
- 1:02:51Speaker 13: on of the AFC Championship game in twenty eighteen. It
- 1:02:56Speaker 13: was correct yep verse the Kansas City Chiefs, and we
- 1:02:59Speaker 13: watched the last four minutes of the game, and that
- 1:03:02Speaker 13: was the first time I've actually seen the game.
- 1:03:05Speaker 8: And let me tell you, I.
- 1:03:06Speaker 13: Was getting goosebumps again. Man, I was getting excited. I
- 1:03:09Speaker 13: couldn't believe what was going on in that game. How
- 1:03:13Speaker 13: many touchdowns were scored in the final four minutes. We
- 1:03:15Speaker 13: went down, we went down, we scored, They came back,
- 1:03:18Speaker 13: they scored. We went back down and scored a touchdown
- 1:03:21Speaker 13: to take the lead. And then with thirty seconds left,
- 1:03:23Speaker 13: Patrick Mahomes did Patrick Mahomes saying he threw a big
- 1:03:25Speaker 13: deep pass got him in field goal position and they
- 1:03:28Speaker 13: kicked the field goal with the final seconds left and
- 1:03:31Speaker 13: regulation to put us into overtime. It was one of
- 1:03:34Speaker 13: the most exciting four minutes I've ever watched. And I
- 1:03:37Speaker 13: played in the game, and I knew what was gonna happen,
- 1:03:39Speaker 13: and it was still that exciting. And what made it
- 1:03:42Speaker 13: so great was that we had so many third and
- 1:03:44Speaker 13: tens and fourth and tents.
- 1:03:46Speaker 8: We weren't moving the ball on.
- 1:03:48Speaker 13: Those final drives on the first down or second down,
- 1:03:50Speaker 13: but we completed the third down every single time.
- 1:03:54Speaker 8: And Julian Edelman balled out.
- 1:03:56Speaker 13: It was Julian Edelman over the middle third and ten,
- 1:03:58Speaker 13: Julianado over the middle third and ten that I'm spreading
- 1:04:01Speaker 13: out watch fourth and tent slant for a first down
- 1:04:03Speaker 13: and then the fade for a first down. And Rex
- 1:04:05Speaker 13: Burg had runs in for the for the overtime touchdown
- 1:04:09Speaker 13: as well, So it was just one of the best
- 1:04:13Speaker 13: four minutes of football.
- 1:04:15Speaker 8: That you could ever watch. Was that asc championship game? Man?
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: What what?
- 1:04:19Speaker 8: What an incredible you know moment And to win on the.
- 1:04:22Speaker 13: Road for the first time to get to the Super
- 1:04:24Speaker 13: Bowl just made the Patriots dynasty that much greater.
- 1:04:29Speaker 18: Man, appreciate you coming in. Thank you so much. Happy
- 1:04:32Speaker 18: Thanksgiving to you and your family. You'll be here at
- 1:04:35Speaker 18: some point time, sooner rather than later to get a
- 1:04:37Speaker 18: red jacket. You're gonna get a gold jacket and Canton
- 1:04:40Speaker 18: whenever your time comes.
- 1:04:41Speaker 8: From there.
- 1:04:42Speaker 18: It was a pleasure to watch your career and see
- 1:04:44Speaker 18: how great you were and how you made this team great.
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: Thank you so much.
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: Tremendous, Yes, I appreciate that, guys.
- 1:04:50Speaker 13: Thank you guys for having me. This is this is
- 1:04:52Speaker 13: really cool man, to be here and just to be
- 1:04:54Speaker 13: back in the building and see some of the guys. Man,
- 1:04:56Speaker 13: it's bringing back so many great memories. Man, and it's
- 1:04:59Speaker 13: just me back up and I like it. Man, this
- 1:05:01Speaker 13: is really cool. So thank you guys for inviting me
- 1:05:03Speaker 13: in and go check out the at the Patriots Hall
- 1:05:06Speaker 13: of fame if you can Grink spike harder than Gronk
- 1:05:09Speaker 13: can spike, because the velocity was tested, and there's a
- 1:05:13Speaker 13: machine that gives you the you know, the the wavelengths
- 1:05:16Speaker 13: of how hard you can spike, and if you can
- 1:05:19Speaker 13: compare it, you know, you can compare it to my
- 1:05:21Speaker 13: velocity and how hard I can spike. So go check
- 1:05:24Speaker 13: it out and just great to be back, man, This
- 1:05:26Speaker 13: is a pleasure. So you guys are the best.
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: Good clubs.
- 1:05:29Speaker 8: Thanks Rob, no problem.
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: And now great moments in.
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: History. So that's Sunday that we were playing the Jets
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: and their pr guy comes up to me while I'm
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: sitting there and he's like, you know what you wrote
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: isn't true. We're not censoring the clips. I'm like, well,
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: you're not giving to them, right. He's like, yeah, but
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: that's not censoring. And the guy sitting next to me
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: goes sounds like censorship to me, and he just walked away.
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: Never one for fred of people's skin. They hated me.
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: Oh yeah. So the other thing I wrote in the
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: paper we were talking, I was talking about the draft,
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: how it's unfair that every at that time, every year,
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: the draft was in New York. I said that wasn't
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: fair because people in the crowd, it's all New York
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: fans and you know, so I said, they should come
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: up with a new thing that the team that has
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: the first pick, that's where the that's the city where
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: the draft should be. I said. But on second thought,
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: that'd be the Jets every year anyway. So again, like Gold,
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: we get.
- 1:06:33Speaker 11: A letter, you know, comic styling. You're a member of
- 1:06:36Speaker 11: another team. You shouldn't be saying this about another team.
- 1:06:39Speaker 11: And like, you know, for a while, like I was
- 1:06:41Speaker 11: like enemy number one. You know, that's a metalware.
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: Do not let this man.
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: So the vice president of pr for the lead sent
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: the Crafts a letter about me, saying that I'm a
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: pain in the ass. And Jonathan showed me the letter.
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: He's like, I just got this from uh, what's it
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: Dan Brown? Joe Brown? I just got this from Joe Brown.
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: He goes, good job.
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: That's another great moment from.
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: All right back here and Patriots Unfiltered eight five five
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: past five hundred is the TPX hotline podcast at Patriots
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: dot com. Is the email address. Let's get to the phones.
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: Alex is in Austin. What's up, Alex? Alex was in Austin. Yes, hey,
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: I good boy, have you heard something.
- 1:07:41Speaker 14: Well, MB's on for the season. It's rocking the news
- 1:07:44Speaker 14: down here. But what did you give a shout out to? Alex?
- 1:07:49Speaker 14: The newsletter is the only email that finds me well
- 1:07:53Speaker 14: all week.
- 1:07:54Speaker 9: That's good.
- 1:07:55Speaker 14: Really appreciate it. I had a question about the offensive
- 1:07:59Speaker 14: line possibly coming in. I felt like the zeitgeist was
- 1:08:04Speaker 14: leaning towards Banks for like a month there, and now
- 1:08:06Speaker 14: it's back to Will Campbell. I just want to know
- 1:08:09Speaker 14: if I missed something, why why this kind of shifts
- 1:08:12Speaker 14: back to Will Campbell instead of Banks? And I'll take
- 1:08:15Speaker 14: it off the air.
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: Okay, thanks Alex. I don't remember it ever being Banks
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: over Campbell.
- 1:08:20Speaker 4: No, I wouldn't say so. I think a lot of
- 1:08:22Speaker 4: people might have gravitated more towards Banks because he's gonna
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: have the prototypical size of a left tackle, and if
- 1:08:28Speaker 4: Campbell's arms come in under threshold, then then maybe you
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: know that cancels Banks out or excuse me, Campbell out
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: as a tackle option. So if you want you know
- 1:08:39Speaker 4: a guy that's probably gonna check the boxes a little
- 1:08:41Speaker 4: bit more in terms of the measurables, then Calvin Banks
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: is more of that, but it also isn't particularly long,
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: so he's gonna probably come in right above threshold as
- 1:08:51Speaker 4: well for arm length. Not he's not gonna have thirty
- 1:08:54Speaker 4: five thirty six in charms. It's gonna be tough.
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: We need one of those guys like the Eagles found
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: from like Rugby eight, just a monster.
- 1:09:03Speaker 6: Was he there when we were there, Paul one of
- 1:09:06Speaker 6: their other monstrous He must not have practiced because you
- 1:09:09Speaker 6: would have definitely take I think he was there.
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: I don't remember.
- 1:09:13Speaker 4: He's been on for a while. Yeah, I remember just
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: seeing him like this.
- 1:09:18Speaker 6: It's gotta be him, like one huge offensive line, being like,
- 1:09:20Speaker 6: who is this guy? And I think at the time
- 1:09:22Speaker 6: he was still kind of raw. They didn't really know
- 1:09:24Speaker 6: he hadn't broken out yet.
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: But yeah, yeah, uh. Todd of New Hampshire rights in
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: I catched twenty two yesterday, Evan and Alex were talking
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: about the lack of quality quarterback options in the draft.
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: Alex said he felt one or more teams were certain
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: to overdraft a quarterback because they always do. I know
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: you guys are lukewarm on the trade of Joe Milton,
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: but if he were in this year's draft with the
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: progress that he's made since joining the Patriots. I see
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: him as the third or fourth best quarterback, which puts
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: him in the conversation as a late first or early
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: second round pick. With that in mind and my propensity
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: to swing for the fences, I'm calling Pittsburgh and offering
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: Milton and Duggar for a pick twenty one. The Steelers
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: aren't going to be bad enough anytime soon to pick
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: in the top five or ten, and guys like Wilson
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: or Field's aren't getting them to the Promised Land, so
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: they need to be creative. They already have. They didn't
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: they call Jacksonville about Trevor Lawrence. I would then do
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: my best to sign Holland in free agency from Miami.
- 1:10:22Speaker 3: What's that I didn't see that they would. Yeah.
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: I don't know if if the report was accurate, but
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: there was a report that the Steelers sent out feelers
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: to the Jaguars about Trevor Lawrence.
- 1:10:35Speaker 4: Yeah. I'm not saying Joe Millen has zero trade value
- 1:10:38Speaker 4: because I don't think that's the case. But it's not.
- 1:10:41Speaker 4: And I know that Emailer probably realizes this, but that's
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: not really an apples to apples comparison because you're comparing
- 1:10:46Speaker 4: the guy that's had a year of development in the
- 1:10:48Speaker 4: NFL and is already an older prospect to begin with,
- 1:10:51Speaker 4: to guys that are twenty two, twenty one years old
- 1:10:54Speaker 4: in the college game. It's like, not really the same
- 1:10:57Speaker 4: sort of thing. So I hear what he's saying. But
- 1:11:00Speaker 4: if I had to guess, you know, Joe Millen was
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: a sixth round pick last year, Like, could you maybe
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: get an earlier Day three pick for him this year
- 1:11:08Speaker 4: if he was available in a trade, I would. I
- 1:11:10Speaker 4: would probably say that's what the best year gonna not
- 1:11:13Speaker 4: a first rounder?
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: Yeah, well it was Dougler too. The guys just don't
- 1:11:16Speaker 3: be no.
- 1:11:17Speaker 6: I yeah, I'm just teaching people who are like he said,
- 1:11:20Speaker 6: Joe Millen for a first round pick and prosper Like,
- 1:11:23Speaker 6: where would he be.
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: In this year's draft now with a year's experience in
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: the NFL, not where he was then, but now knowing
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: what we know where in what the NFL knows limited
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: about him, where would he risen in this year's draft.
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: It's definitely possible, just because of the traits that if
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: you're in a draft a down quarterback year, you might
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: risk it for the biscuit on the quarter, on the
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: arm strength and the size and the mobility. But I'm
- 1:11:48Speaker 4: still I would think he's outside the top fifty. Like,
- 1:11:52Speaker 4: I think he's probably a bit.
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: I mean, compare him to Anthony Richardson.
- 1:11:57Speaker 4: Not close, No, no, like it. Just I would say
- 1:12:01Speaker 4: he's probably Like I said, like, you know, his value
- 1:12:04Speaker 4: now might be a fourth round pick in a year
- 1:12:07Speaker 4: like this. You know, I think somewhere around there. So
- 1:12:10Speaker 4: higher than what he was last year, certainly, but I
- 1:12:13Speaker 4: don't think you get anything crazy for him.
- 1:12:14Speaker 6: But you're kind of stacking in the area that the
- 1:12:16Speaker 6: two kids in the National Championship game, right, Ryle Leonard,
- 1:12:19Speaker 6: like those like that kind of area of like the
- 1:12:21Speaker 6: middle of this draft, like you know, some guys with
- 1:12:24Speaker 6: some issues but some talent too.
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: I just occurred to me, I wasn't here last week.
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: Did I win the playoff picks contest? No? Okay, who won?
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: Mike?
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: Mike won?
- 1:12:39Speaker 8: Bare.
- 1:12:39Speaker 5: I had a really bad Super Bowl. Yeah, my picks
- 1:12:41Speaker 5: were terrible.
- 1:12:42Speaker 4: And so did the Chiefs.
- 1:12:43Speaker 5: Yeah, and that's why.
- 1:12:45Speaker 3: I have to go back and look because now I'm
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: confused on the overall and the spread. But I think
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: Mike won.
- 1:12:50Speaker 5: Yeah, I was really bad.
- 1:12:51Speaker 3: With it, and then I added in Alex's picks that
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: she actually did send me.
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: Well, how do we do scops?
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: Mediocre?
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: Yeah? I did that.
- 1:13:01Speaker 6: Yeah, Mike, you had a tough because I told you
- 1:13:04Speaker 6: I was powd stand being like, that's it.
- 1:13:06Speaker 9: Kansas City is just gonna win results in the newsletter?
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: Did you do it? Did you put them in?
- 1:13:11Speaker 4: Well? Because I wasn't until tomorrow.
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: Oh Okayah, I wasn't here to send them. Yeah, I
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: can do.
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: That, okay. Gerald and Grimsby watching on YouTube today and
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: the way Paul is dressed, I'm wondering if he's looking
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: to join Build down South and start a new podcast
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: tar Heels today. Actually it's a citadel. It's the same colors,
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: but it's the Citadel because they copy.
- 1:13:36Speaker 9: Calls like fourth baby Blues above.
- 1:13:41Speaker 4: Baby blue, Carolina Blue.
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: This is like my only Carolina blue citadel. But it's
- 1:13:47Speaker 3: it's the Citadel, not those.
- 1:13:48Speaker 5: Are their colors too.
- 1:13:50Speaker 4: They just copy it North.
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: Yeah, the Citadel just copyed.
- 1:13:54Speaker 6: I think the Citadel has been along round longer than
- 1:13:57Speaker 6: the University of Carolina, doesn't.
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: Matter, maybe not as long his bill though, he's been
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: around a long time.
- 1:14:02Speaker 4: When you see that color. You're Michael Jordan, that is unfortunate.
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: I'm not gonna lie. When I was in the bookstore,
- 1:14:08Speaker 3: I was like, you know, I'm a quarter zip guy,
- 1:14:10Speaker 3: and you know, I got to get one. And I'm
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: looking and I'm like, they had a white one is
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: the other had the logo one that I really liked.
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: But that was like two hundred bucks, And I was like.
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: I don't like it that or was it made out
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: of like cashmere?
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: It was obviously made out of a much better material
- 1:14:25Speaker 3: than this one is. But I looked and I was like, Okay,
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: is that forty bucks? It's kind of the next BAC. Yeah,
- 1:14:32Speaker 3: but it was kind of the next best one. And
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: I was like, that's really unfortunate that it's Carolina blue.
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: But what are you gonna do? Yeah, is what it is.
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: I would think with Marines it would be a darker blue,
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: you know.
- 1:14:45Speaker 9: Yeah, what's the whole color scheme?
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: Yeah, is the same thing, marine, Matt, What do you
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: think about that baby blue for Marines?
- 1:14:53Speaker 8: That's not the Marine Corps color? No?
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: Sure is it? Well, it's not just Marines, Oh the Citadel.
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: I thought it was Marines.
- 1:14:59Speaker 3: It's everybody it is.
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: Oh, I didn't know that you learned something new every day.
- 1:15:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I think we TJ more than likely is going
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: to go to yeah, into the army.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: To the army. Okay, all right, go Army, Go Army.
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: That's because that's because Matt talked him out of it.
- 1:15:20Speaker 4: I didn't talk him into the army. To the air Force.
- 1:15:26Speaker 3: Uh, there's absolutely no chance of that.
- 1:15:29Speaker 4: I can't swim. I don't know.
- 1:15:32Speaker 3: No, he Yeah, he didn't have any interest in the
- 1:15:35Speaker 3: Air Force. I don't know why.
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: It must not like money. Oh okay, let's see who
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: is this? This is Stephen and Iron. A great show
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: was always from Mike. I thought he did a brilliant
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: job last week. Could ever get to my email? But
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: I didn't mind it as it was originally for Evan
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: and Alex on Cash twenty two. Anyway, question for this
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: week for Evan mainly, but open to all. If the paide,
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: if you just get one of the top left tackle
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: free agents and Will Campbell measures under thirty three inches
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: arm length, would taking him at four to play left
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: guard be seen as a bad pick.
- 1:16:10Speaker 4: Yes, I would not take him to play guard at
- 1:16:14Speaker 4: that point.
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: I personally would love it, as you then have four
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: to five O line positions pretty locked in, and I
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: think if the team tried to trade down to get
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: him a bit lower to play left guard, it could
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: be risky in case he's taken by the time we're
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: back on the clock. Normally i'd say that the chance,
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: I'd say take that chance. But with the draft not
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: being as big a blue chip market this year, are
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: we best to take the player we want when we can,
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: as opposed to when we would like to do to
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: the position.
- 1:16:43Speaker 6: That's a good question. I mean, I think that's a
- 1:16:44Speaker 6: hard spot to be in. If they sign let's just say,
- 1:16:48Speaker 6: Ronnie Stanley, not a permanent solution, but hopefully a solution
- 1:16:51Speaker 6: for at least a year or two. You still have
- 1:16:54Speaker 6: a long term need at the spot. It's very important
- 1:16:56Speaker 6: you have a chance to draft that kid. But I
- 1:16:58Speaker 6: still feel like I would tack defense.
- 1:17:00Speaker 5: I would try to. I would try to tack to
- 1:17:02Speaker 5: maybe one of the Georgia kids, or you know.
- 1:17:04Speaker 6: I think a trade down it then becomes even more
- 1:17:06Speaker 6: And if Campbell was a guard, yeah, yeah.
- 1:17:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm not. Campbell's off my board. If he's a guard,
- 1:17:12Speaker 4: I'm with you guys, but I I'm with Mike though
- 1:17:15Speaker 4: I if you are signing a Ronnie Stanley, even an
- 1:17:19Speaker 4: Alric Jackson Cam Robinson in free agency and saying we
- 1:17:22Speaker 4: have a left tackle now, then you're going defense. You're
- 1:17:25Speaker 4: going Tedoro McMillan, You're you're doing it.
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: Even if Campbell is a legit tackle prospect, I.
- 1:17:32Speaker 4: Would think about it more if it was a legit
- 1:17:33Speaker 4: tackle prospect, because now you have the Joe alt Roshan
- 1:17:38Speaker 4: Slater thing where you could play one on the right
- 1:17:40Speaker 4: side and one on the left side, and I don't
- 1:17:42Speaker 4: I don't hate that idea. I would probably flip the veteran,
- 1:17:45Speaker 4: but I still don't hate that idea of doing that
- 1:17:48Speaker 4: sort of thing. So I would be and if that
- 1:17:50Speaker 4: was the case, but.
- 1:17:51Speaker 6: A lot to think about, Like I love what you
- 1:17:53Speaker 6: brought up all like that to me is like where
- 1:17:54Speaker 6: I start getting like what do you do?
- 1:17:56Speaker 3: You know?
- 1:17:56Speaker 6: Like it's important, and like I think there's even an
- 1:17:58Speaker 6: argument to be saying, like if you have a ten
- 1:18:01Speaker 6: year all pro left guard sitting there, Like I mean,
- 1:18:03Speaker 6: I think there's a little argument.
- 1:18:04Speaker 5: I don't necessarily think i'd make it, but.
- 1:18:06Speaker 3: I wouldn't think that I can understand it, And to me,
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: it would just come down to the same stuff that
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: we talk about all the time. Whatever the guy is
- 1:18:12Speaker 3: that they think is better, if that's one of the
- 1:18:14Speaker 3: defensive players, by all means, take the defensive guy, don't
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: reach because any of the spots that you take realistically
- 1:18:22Speaker 3: are going to fill a need. And I am not,
- 1:18:24Speaker 3: As we said on Tuesday, I'm not hell bent. It
- 1:18:26Speaker 3: has to be the fastest way to rebuilding is fix
- 1:18:30Speaker 3: the trenches. Now. The fastest way to rebuilding is getting
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: as many talented players as you can. That's the fastest
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: way to rebuild. I don't care where they play. You
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: need good players. You need good players.
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: Kieran from Aberdeen Share. How about Joe Milton for Deshaun
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: Watson and Miles Garrett. I think he's being funny there.
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: Thanks for the great content, love the newsletter, but I
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: do a lot of machine work and would prefer to
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: listen to things. Any chance you could do an audio version.
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: That's the show. That's the audio version of the Around
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: and Around we Go.
- 1:19:05Speaker 3: So I don't think he's kidding about the the Deshaun
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: Watson Miles Garrett thing. I think a lot of people
- 1:19:13Speaker 3: are trying to come up with the brock oswhile with
- 1:19:15Speaker 3: trade for Deshaun Watson. For you know, Cleveland's gonna take
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: less to unload the contract, and you have the cap
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: space to be able to afford the contract, So that
- 1:19:28Speaker 3: means you can get Miles Garrett for pennies on the dollar.
- 1:19:31Speaker 3: Jill Milton like, I don't think that's realistic, but I
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: don't think he's being so okay.
- 1:19:35Speaker 4: It's almost like a bit I apologize.
- 1:19:37Speaker 3: Then, I don't think I'm just trying to see it
- 1:19:39Speaker 3: because I've seen a lot of people throw scenarios involving
- 1:19:43Speaker 3: Watson to me and then going back to brock oswol
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: This has been happening the mailbag for several weeks.
- 1:19:49Speaker 6: In this scenario, do you what do you do with
- 1:19:51Speaker 6: Watson if the Patriots acquire him?
- 1:19:52Speaker 5: Do you see part of this team is he.
- 1:19:55Speaker 4: Can't cut him because he's of the dead cap of
- 1:19:57Speaker 4: that would cause I don't think unless it changed in
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: a trade. I don't know how exactly the math of
- 1:20:02Speaker 4: all of that, but that, like all this, it reminds
- 1:20:05Speaker 4: me of baseball trade right. It's like what the Red
- 1:20:07Speaker 4: Sox did with David Price. He bets right where.
- 1:20:09Speaker 3: You get less because you're including a big contact contract.
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: But I don't think you're going to get that much
- 1:20:16Speaker 3: less for Miles Garrett that you're getting him for Joe Milton.
- 1:20:19Speaker 6: What would you guys do with him? With Deshaun Watson
- 1:20:22Speaker 6: if you were Cleveland, Like, how do you get out
- 1:20:24Speaker 6: of that?
- 1:20:24Speaker 3: Do you just do?
- 1:20:25Speaker 5: You have to just bite the bullet?
- 1:20:26Speaker 3: And I don't know the particulars about the dead money,
- 1:20:31Speaker 3: but yeah, if I just decided he can't play for
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: me anymore, then that would yeah.
- 1:20:36Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean Denver off that.
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: One of the worst contracts transactions in sports history.
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: Up there probably in a conversation.
- 1:20:47Speaker 8: Absolutely.
- 1:20:48Speaker 3: I just can't believe how much forget about the person
- 1:20:52Speaker 3: because the person has no defense. I just can't believe
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: how much he fell off as a player. Yeah, I
- 1:20:58Speaker 3: never would have guessed that, you know, and now like
- 1:21:01Speaker 3: the same kind it's so weird, like the similarities with
- 1:21:05Speaker 3: Justin Tucker now and I can't believe Baltimore hasn't cut
- 1:21:08Speaker 3: ties with them.
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, well you gotta let justice.
- 1:21:13Speaker 3: I don't think you do. Uh, John, I don't think
- 1:21:16Speaker 3: you do.
- 1:21:17Speaker 4: Yeah, especially in that he's a kicker, I know, but
- 1:21:20Speaker 4: I mean he's kind of washed.
- 1:21:24Speaker 9: Was people are saying is he washed because because maybe
- 1:21:29Speaker 9: he knew that was coming off the pipeline.
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: Yeah, John Louisiana writes, And it seems for the Patriots
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: media and fans, they think to have a great O line,
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: you need to have a great O line to win.
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: Along with that the notion that you have to get
- 1:21:43Speaker 2: the O line in the first round or they're no good.
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: I think how bad our O line has been has
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: more to do with how the front office has approached
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: dressing it more than anything. What the Patriots have had
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: the past two years has been worse than average, and
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: I think we need to calm it down by thinking
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: it has to be great good or average will do
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: the trick. Also, Evan is a fraud. Let me know
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: if I have to email in why later.
- 1:22:07Speaker 8: I agree.
- 1:22:08Speaker 3: I look forward to that though.
- 1:22:09Speaker 4: But I think we're all in agreement on that email.
- 1:22:11Speaker 4: I don't think anybody is saying it needs to be
- 1:22:13Speaker 4: an Alito line. They just don't even have service.
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: So there's some people saying it no.
- 1:22:17Speaker 3: And he's that Fread's right that like that's what really
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: started to like get under my skin a little bit.
- 1:22:23Speaker 3: Is like that it's the latest example of what the
- 1:22:27Speaker 3: characteristics were of the team that won the Super Bowl.
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: The only way to do it.
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: Recently, Bias and I would even argue, like Philadelphia's offensive
- 1:22:33Speaker 3: line is tremendous. I mean, I don't think anybody. I
- 1:22:35Speaker 3: mean I think all of them got like all pro consideration.
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: I think all five of them, or at least four
- 1:22:41Speaker 3: out of five of them. They couldn't run the ball
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: in the Super Bowl like Saquon Barkley put up this
- 1:22:47Speaker 3: historic season. He couldn't run from here to there in
- 1:22:49Speaker 3: the Super Bowl. So did they dominate the line of
- 1:22:51Speaker 3: scrimmage in the run game? No, But I think that
- 1:22:53Speaker 3: they did everything else at such a high level.
- 1:22:56Speaker 8: Right.
- 1:22:56Speaker 3: Their defensive line bothered Kansas City so much. Offensively, the
- 1:23:02Speaker 3: passing game for Philadelphia was so effective and efficient. I
- 1:23:05Speaker 3: think it was like seventeen for twenty two. It's really efficient,
- 1:23:08Speaker 3: but a big plays, big.
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: Domin I think that was an example of in the NFL,
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: if a defense commits to stopping the run, they're probably
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: gonna do.
- 1:23:16Speaker 3: But they didn't.
- 1:23:17Speaker 2: But at what costs?
- 1:23:18Speaker 3: They didn't commit to stop That was the thing you
- 1:23:20Speaker 3: don't think they did. They didn't. There's Evans guys out
- 1:23:24Speaker 3: there with all kinds of stuff out there. They didn't
- 1:23:27Speaker 3: have that normally heavy boxes the whole game. They just
- 1:23:31Speaker 3: stopped the run because Kansas City is pretty good on defense.
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: Well, they certainly didn't blitz. They never like took chances
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: that would keep them vulnerable to the run.
- 1:23:38Speaker 3: But they couldn't cover right because Philadelphia's got good players,
- 1:23:44Speaker 3: not just good linemen. They have good players. They have
- 1:23:47Speaker 3: like AJ Brown and DeVante Smith and Dallas Goddard. There
- 1:23:49Speaker 3: good players in Kansas City's good players didn't keep up.
- 1:23:53Speaker 3: Trent McDuffie had a tough day.
- 1:23:55Speaker 5: I like that email side before the part about you.
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: Of course I like that too, But.
- 1:24:01Speaker 4: I want to know why not to.
- 1:24:03Speaker 6: Say that Ben Brown or Trade Jacobs are the answer.
- 1:24:05Speaker 6: But there's this part of me of like, of this
- 1:24:08Speaker 6: bunch of dudes that they have that some have promised,
- 1:24:10Speaker 6: some you don't really feel great about with free agency,
- 1:24:13Speaker 6: with some of the draft, can you just get to good?
- 1:24:16Speaker 5: Can you just get to okay?
- 1:24:17Speaker 6: I mean, I don't know. Some of those Patriots teams
- 1:24:19Speaker 6: that were great, I never thought of them as like
- 1:24:21Speaker 6: a dominant offensive line. I mean, I think Logan Mankins
- 1:24:24Speaker 6: was dominant at times. I never thought of Matt light
- 1:24:26Speaker 6: as a dominant.
- 1:24:27Speaker 2: Thought, they were always really good release. How many years, Paul,
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: be honest about this, how many years during the dynasty
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: did we have a discussion on this show how many
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: guys on the Patriots roster would you take on another team?
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: And we had certain years during the dynasty where we said,
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: are roster is not that loaded? Right, we had those discussions.
- 1:24:46Speaker 3: I would say that that that absolutely we had discussions
- 1:24:49Speaker 3: like that.
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: You're right, and that's why Brady got pissed.
- 1:24:52Speaker 3: The offensive line was in my opinion, although light Year
- 1:24:59Speaker 3: is better than this one also a product of Brady. Yeah, Like,
- 1:25:03Speaker 3: you don't have to have great linemen when you have
- 1:25:05Speaker 3: that guy deciphering things and as he said, knowing the
- 1:25:09Speaker 3: answers to the test.
- 1:25:10Speaker 6: But whether it's having the greatest quarterback of all time, huge,
- 1:25:12Speaker 6: whether it's having Dante Scarnekia, it just doesn't have to be.
- 1:25:16Speaker 6: We need to overinvest in the left tackle and the
- 1:25:19Speaker 6: left guard, and you know, going to the point of
- 1:25:21Speaker 6: drafting Campbell and signing you know, a big name free
- 1:25:24Speaker 6: agent in those positions, Like I just I think that
- 1:25:26Speaker 6: there can be a solid offseason where they get to
- 1:25:28Speaker 6: respectable and Drake may feeds into that, and maybe the
- 1:25:30Speaker 6: new offensive line coach Doug Maroon fits into that as advantage.
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: But you have to but you have to add like
- 1:25:36Speaker 3: if you're just going to bring back Jacobs and Brown
- 1:25:39Speaker 3: and expect your offensive line to be better this year
- 1:25:41Speaker 3: than it was last year, it's not hundred percent.
- 1:25:43Speaker 4: Well I just I mean you said it. But like
- 1:25:47Speaker 4: Dante scarnekia is is such a big part of all this,
- 1:25:50Speaker 4: Like offensive line player is a five man unit, like
- 1:25:53Speaker 4: so of all five guys need to be playing on
- 1:25:55Speaker 4: the same string and they all have to see it
- 1:25:57Speaker 4: through the same set of eyes, is what you know.
- 1:26:00Speaker 4: It's in the line room. It's like a poster that
- 1:26:03Speaker 4: Dante quote. You know, see you through the same set
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: of eyes. And like Jeff Stoaltlin in Philadelphia is in
- 1:26:10Speaker 4: my opinion, one of the best offensive line coaches of
- 1:26:12Speaker 4: all time as well. And so when they take Jordan Mylotta,
- 1:26:16Speaker 4: who is a seventh round pick who played rugby his
- 1:26:19Speaker 4: entire life, and over a couple of years of development,
- 1:26:22Speaker 4: Jeff Staltlin turns him into a top five left tackle
- 1:26:24Speaker 4: in football, you know you can go all like it's
- 1:26:27Speaker 4: easier than so when you take when you have a
- 1:26:30Speaker 4: coach like that, and maybe Doug Maro own's a better
- 1:26:32Speaker 4: coach than than Scott Peters or the average run of
- 1:26:35Speaker 4: the mill offensive line coach. But you don't need to
- 1:26:38Speaker 4: target offensive lineman at the top of the market. You
- 1:26:40Speaker 4: don't need to target offensive lineman in the first round
- 1:26:44Speaker 4: because you know Marcus Cannon in Sebastian Volmer and those guys.
- 1:26:50Speaker 4: You know, obviously Stephen Niels the extreme example. But like
- 1:26:53Speaker 4: Shaq Mason, Joe Tooney is a third round pick, David
- 1:26:55Speaker 4: Andrews is undrafted when you hand him to a guy
- 1:26:58Speaker 4: who I think should be in the Profole Ball Hall
- 1:27:00Speaker 4: of Fame. All of a sudden, they have a good
- 1:27:02Speaker 4: offensive line, and so a lot of these other teams
- 1:27:05Speaker 4: that don't have that luxury they need to go get
- 1:27:09Speaker 4: better players, like the players need to be the ones
- 1:27:12Speaker 4: that are rising the ceiling of the group. So it's
- 1:27:16Speaker 4: hard to say, like, oh, you don't need to go,
- 1:27:18Speaker 4: you know, attack the offensive line in the first round. Well,
- 1:27:21Speaker 4: if we assume that Doug Moron is going to turn
- 1:27:22Speaker 4: their third round pick into a starting caliber tackle, than fine,
- 1:27:27Speaker 4: But like we're putting a lot of faith in Doug
- 1:27:28Speaker 4: Moron that he's going to be able to do that.
- 1:27:30Speaker 3: And I would just say in Fred's being being snarky
- 1:27:33Speaker 3: with with our views on the offensive line over the years,
- 1:27:36Speaker 3: and I would agree with it. You don't have to
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: like like Mishaan Slater and Joell both both first round picks. Okay,
- 1:27:43Speaker 3: that's one way to do it. They have a good
- 1:27:45Speaker 3: offensive line, but you don't have to do it that way.
- 1:27:47Speaker 3: As Evan just gave you examples. But the Patriots don't
- 1:27:50Speaker 3: have any. We had an SPFW about this one too,
- 1:27:54Speaker 3: probably a couple of months ago. I believe it's the
- 1:27:56Speaker 3: only I think it's the only offensive line in the
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: entire NFL that doesn't have a single first or second
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: round pick. And you know, when you're talking about those lines,
- 1:28:12Speaker 3: you know Logan Mankins was a first round pick, Matt
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: Light was a second round pick, so Ashian Volmer was
- 1:28:16Speaker 3: a second round pick. They did invest some into the
- 1:28:20Speaker 3: offensive line.
- 1:28:20Speaker 2: Nate Solder was a first round I.
- 1:28:26Speaker 3: Need you to listen so you can get you know
- 1:28:30Speaker 3: you can. You can get Steven Neil in the mix
- 1:28:35Speaker 3: and have some patients in developing him. And you have
- 1:28:38Speaker 3: a guy like Joe andrewsy or Dan Connolly or Russ
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: Hochstein as one of the other guys that you have
- 1:28:44Speaker 3: some talent around him, you know, and then you can
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: sort of fill it in. The Patriots have neither. They
- 1:28:50Speaker 3: don't have these they don't have these developmental guys like
- 1:28:55Speaker 3: Steve and Neil, and they don't have any blue chip
- 1:28:58Speaker 3: you know, guys that came out, you know, Cole Strange.
- 1:29:01Speaker 3: That's it. Yeah, there's a first round pick and unfortunately
- 1:29:05Speaker 3: he hasn't really panned out.
- 1:29:06Speaker 4: Yeah. I mean when you look at the Eagles, like
- 1:29:08Speaker 4: Lane Johnson is going to go into the Hall of
- 1:29:10Speaker 4: Fame someday, and so LANDA.
- 1:29:12Speaker 3: Dickerson was a high draft pick too.
- 1:29:14Speaker 4: Yeah, top one hundred guy, and so like Lane Johnson
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: is the anchor of the Eagles offensive line, you know,
- 1:29:20Speaker 4: and he was the fourth overall picking a draft.
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: And dam Jurgen's second round pick.
- 1:29:24Speaker 4: You know that that's a big part of it too.
- 1:29:26Speaker 2: Until Barton Poland along these lines. People love to say
- 1:29:29Speaker 2: that you win in the trenches, or you win with
- 1:29:31Speaker 2: a top three quarterback. You know, how you win hitting
- 1:29:34Speaker 2: your players, not you know, hitting on hitting on the players.
- 1:29:38Speaker 2: Many many say that the many say that the Bengals,
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: for example, focused on their weapons instead of the lines
- 1:29:46Speaker 2: and defense. Well, no, they spent big money in draft
- 1:29:49Speaker 2: capital on the old line and secondary, but they missed
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: on most of them, just like the Eagles hit on
- 1:29:54Speaker 2: most of their players, both in free agency and in
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: the draft, as well as in the trade market. So
- 1:29:58Speaker 2: I don't really care what position grew we focus on
- 1:30:01Speaker 2: because it doesn't matter unless you hit on them.
- 1:30:04Speaker 3: What a great email. He's right about Cincinnati. Cincinnati has
- 1:30:08Speaker 3: spent resources trying to fix what is the problem with
- 1:30:11Speaker 3: the team, and they missed.
- 1:30:13Speaker 5: Around and around they go.
- 1:30:14Speaker 3: For the most part, they have some They had a
- 1:30:16Speaker 3: horrible secondary last year and they sunk a lot of
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: money into it and it failed.
- 1:30:20Speaker 4: The defensive side of the ball. That that's probably true.
- 1:30:23Speaker 4: You know, I think their offensive line, some of their
- 1:30:25Speaker 4: guys that they've signed, you know, Teddy Carris, I think
- 1:30:28Speaker 4: Marius mim is going to be a good draft pick.
- 1:30:30Speaker 4: Like some of those things have worked out for them.
- 1:30:32Speaker 3: But but that wasn't big money. They put big money
- 1:30:35Speaker 3: into the secondary. They put some big money into some
- 1:30:38Speaker 3: of the areas that they lack, and those areas haven't
- 1:30:41Speaker 3: been great. But I agree with you on I kind
- 1:30:43Speaker 3: of liked Mims in the draft.
- 1:30:44Speaker 2: Lash.
- 1:30:45Speaker 3: Yeah, he's going to be a good player.
- 1:30:46Speaker 4: He's kind of last year's Josh Simmons. You know, injuries,
- 1:30:49Speaker 4: short lifespan in college. So let's see what happened.
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: Kakara in Jacksonville says, remember Fred's theory on cold Strange.
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: I think it actually applies perfect ly to Travis Hunter.
- 1:31:02Speaker 2: Let's try him out wide receiver. If he fails, worst
- 1:31:04Speaker 2: case scenario is that he's an All Pro cornerback. What
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: do you think about that? Is that? Did I say
- 1:31:08Speaker 2: that about col Strange?
- 1:31:12Speaker 14: So?
- 1:31:12Speaker 3: I think it was Isaiah winning his floor. His floor
- 1:31:16Speaker 3: was an All Pro guard. He might have said pro Bowl, Pro.
- 1:31:19Speaker 8: Bowl guard, pro Bowl.
- 1:31:20Speaker 2: Yeah, that's his floor.
- 1:31:21Speaker 4: He's actually playing guard now in Miami and he ain't
- 1:31:23Speaker 4: a Pro Bowl.
- 1:31:25Speaker 2: Well I always heard, yeah, they stunted his growth.
- 1:31:31Speaker 3: See, but that you know what? Miami is an example too,
- 1:31:33Speaker 3: Like it was like the fastest way to rebuild, the
- 1:31:35Speaker 3: fastest way you gotta build in the trenches. Well, Miami
- 1:31:39Speaker 3: is not a Super Bowl winning team by any stretch,
- 1:31:41Speaker 3: but they have rebuilt themselves into a playoff team. Right.
- 1:31:44Speaker 3: They made the playoffs the last two years. They didn't
- 1:31:46Speaker 3: make it this year, but close enough.
- 1:31:49Speaker 2: They win football games.
- 1:31:50Speaker 4: But they always get their butts kicked.
- 1:31:51Speaker 3: No, but I'm just saying they went They went from
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: the worst team in the league to a playoff team
- 1:31:57Speaker 3: in like three years, not by fixing the train. They
- 1:32:00Speaker 3: did it by getting weapons. Yeah, you can do it
- 1:32:03Speaker 3: different ways.
- 1:32:04Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:32:04Speaker 3: I mean they ignored the trenches, which that's a problem.
- 1:32:10Speaker 3: So you can't get over the humpany only plays half
- 1:32:12Speaker 3: the games.
- 1:32:12Speaker 4: Yeah, but every time they play, Miami plays a contender.
- 1:32:17Speaker 4: You know their record yep, even with healthy two against
- 1:32:19Speaker 4: like good teams, it's terrible. It's because they get their
- 1:32:22Speaker 4: butts kicked in the trenches like they can't I would agree,
- 1:32:25Speaker 4: and they can't move the.
- 1:32:26Speaker 3: But would you be happy right now to be Miami
- 1:32:29Speaker 3: right now? I'm not talking about forever. I'm talking about
- 1:32:32Speaker 3: right now. I'd be much rather be Miami and then say, hey,
- 1:32:35Speaker 3: we get a couple offensive linemen, we fix some things
- 1:32:38Speaker 3: over here, and we can be a contender.
- 1:32:40Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:32:41Speaker 4: I think that team is soft, so I worry about
- 1:32:44Speaker 4: I agree with I don't think they're going anywhere because
- 1:32:46Speaker 4: of that.
- 1:32:47Speaker 3: You're missing my point, right, I'm talking about the caliber
- 1:32:49Speaker 3: of team forgetting a close out. They got to the
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: point where they were one of the worst teams in
- 1:32:54Speaker 3: the league when Brian Flores and now they have a
- 1:32:59Speaker 3: talented roster that's missing important pieces and they can't be
- 1:33:02Speaker 3: a contender until they get those. The Patriots are light
- 1:33:05Speaker 3: years away from that.
- 1:33:06Speaker 4: And they'll keep drafting Chop Robinson's and stuff like that.
- 1:33:10Speaker 2: Yeah, he's not listening.
- 1:33:12Speaker 3: You know what he's doing.
- 1:33:13Speaker 4: He's doing because I wouldn't.
- 1:33:14Speaker 3: He's being and okay, but if he's being intentionally obtuse.
- 1:33:18Speaker 2: He's saying that.
- 1:33:18Speaker 4: Okay, they say that you can get then change the
- 1:33:21Speaker 4: If you're telling me that I am running the team
- 1:33:23Speaker 4: from this point on.
- 1:33:26Speaker 3: They're going to draft three All Pro offensive linemen just
- 1:33:29Speaker 3: to suit your needs.
- 1:33:30Speaker 4: I'm telling you that you're good. They will. They will
- 1:33:33Speaker 4: go into this year's draft and they will do none.
- 1:33:35Speaker 3: They might screw it up, and that's I want to
- 1:33:37Speaker 3: be their person the personnel chief. I'm telling you, they
- 1:33:41Speaker 3: went from a terrible team personnel wise to a good
- 1:33:43Speaker 3: team personnel wise. They're not a great team yet.
- 1:33:46Speaker 2: And think about think about how close do they'd be
- 1:33:48Speaker 2: if they were you.
- 1:33:49Speaker 3: They did that without addressing the trenches. Somehow now, which
- 1:33:52Speaker 3: is the only way to do it.
- 1:33:53Speaker 2: That's how you shut them.
- 1:33:55Speaker 4: No, I still disagree. Okay, I don't want any I
- 1:33:58Speaker 4: don't want anything to do with Themami, and you want.
- 1:34:01Speaker 2: Quarterback getting talent, help me, it's nothing to do.
- 1:34:05Speaker 3: They wanted to be Miami. But I'm telling you how
- 1:34:08Speaker 3: quickly you can get to respectability regardless of players.
- 1:34:13Speaker 2: Okay, they have talent in the wrong places.
- 1:34:16Speaker 4: Like they have great top end talent. If you want
- 1:34:18Speaker 4: to draft those players for your fantasy team, cool. If
- 1:34:21Speaker 4: you want to win football games in the NFL way
- 1:34:25Speaker 4: to do both? No, not really a playoff game.
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: What do you want to get to the playoffs?
- 1:34:30Speaker 3: You go four and thirteen?
- 1:34:32Speaker 4: Okay, last couple of years, Yes that is true. But
- 1:34:34Speaker 4: like I would not want to be in their.
- 1:34:36Speaker 3: Position, but I want to be in their position. I'm
- 1:34:39Speaker 3: telling you I want to be out of the Patriots position.
- 1:34:41Speaker 3: I would.
- 1:34:43Speaker 19: Differently than the Patriots the last two years. Go get
- 1:34:46Speaker 19: your shiny toys. It's not shiny toys. I want talented players.
- 1:34:50Speaker 19: I don't care what position they play. I don't care
- 1:34:53Speaker 19: if their.
- 1:34:53Speaker 2: Lineman, and.
- 1:34:56Speaker 3: If if the best choice is Will Campbell, I want
- 1:34:59Speaker 3: Will Campbell like, I'm not opposed to linemen, right, I'm
- 1:35:03Speaker 3: just that email was perfect. If you get talent and
- 1:35:06Speaker 3: your team, you hit on your players.
- 1:35:08Speaker 4: Yeah, I just think the difference it just we can
- 1:35:11Speaker 4: move on from the Dolphins thing. I just like picking
- 1:35:13Speaker 4: on the Dolphins, but I think that.
- 1:35:14Speaker 3: Which is completely transparent. It's just a division team that
- 1:35:17Speaker 3: you hate and you refuse to give them any credit.
- 1:35:19Speaker 4: I give them slight credit. But I just don't want
- 1:35:21Speaker 4: to be a regular season team that there's no that's fine,
- 1:35:23Speaker 4: that wins nine games with my quarterbacks healthy, but otherwise.
- 1:35:26Speaker 3: A lot of teams like that. But but right now
- 1:35:29Speaker 3: you're the Carolina Panthers. I don't want to be that.
- 1:35:31Speaker 4: How we go throw them a parade?
- 1:35:33Speaker 8: How many?
- 1:35:34Speaker 4: How many regular how many regular season games?
- 1:35:37Speaker 8: It's a parade.
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: It's okay, much rather go for go hang the bach,
- 1:35:42Speaker 3: rather go much rather go. We go to the press
- 1:35:45Speaker 3: box against a team that didn't play.
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: Okay, let me let me, let me, let me rephrase
- 1:35:50Speaker 2: the whole thing. Yeah, let's go back four years ten say,
- 1:35:53Speaker 2: over the last four years, the Patriots have gotten some
- 1:35:57Speaker 2: high end talent at these shiny positions that you talk about. Yes,
- 1:36:01Speaker 2: and right now, where record wise and competition wise the
- 1:36:06Speaker 2: same as Miami, where all we need is to build
- 1:36:09Speaker 2: up the trenches. Would you like to be in that
- 1:36:11Speaker 2: position right now where we've got high end talent at
- 1:36:15Speaker 2: some key positions.
- 1:36:16Speaker 3: Okay, how do you think.
- 1:36:18Speaker 2: Pittsburgh is building from the inside out?
- 1:36:21Speaker 3: First? Pretty good? You think Pittsburgh's pretty good in the trenches.
- 1:36:24Speaker 3: What are they missing? Quarterback shiny toys, the same spot
- 1:36:30Speaker 3: that Miami is. They ain't going anywhere. They ain't gonna
- 1:36:32Speaker 3: win a playoff game. They haven't won a playoff game
- 1:36:34Speaker 3: in a long time.
- 1:36:35Speaker 4: That's true.
- 1:36:36Speaker 3: Same thing.
- 1:36:37Speaker 8: And I.
- 1:36:39Speaker 3: Want to be good players, that's all. And I don't
- 1:36:41Speaker 3: want to get more good players to get me championship
- 1:36:44Speaker 3: left and.
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: Hopefully one of our best players is the quarterback.
- 1:36:47Speaker 3: Well I write correct, I don't want to get there
- 1:36:50Speaker 3: and then have rock party and then he gets then
- 1:36:52Speaker 3: he really loses.
- 1:36:54Speaker 4: I'm really in trouble. That's the case. I think. The
- 1:36:57Speaker 4: other big thing, just like in this particular draft, because
- 1:37:00Speaker 4: we are in we're not making up players. It's not
- 1:37:02Speaker 4: Madden where we can just like create players out of
- 1:37:05Speaker 4: thin air. In this particular draft, I strongly feel that
- 1:37:09Speaker 4: there's not a big separation in talent from I would
- 1:37:13Speaker 4: say probably three to four to like twelve ish. It's
- 1:37:17Speaker 4: all kind of the same player. People feel that in
- 1:37:20Speaker 4: terms of level of talent. So in this draft, position
- 1:37:24Speaker 4: and positional value is kind of a big deal because
- 1:37:28Speaker 4: in other drafts you could sit there and say, Okay,
- 1:37:30Speaker 4: we don't want to take this guy because we're going
- 1:37:33Speaker 4: to take the blue chip receiver.
- 1:37:35Speaker 3: I just need them to be right.
- 1:37:37Speaker 4: But but but my point is is that in this draft,
- 1:37:41Speaker 4: I would say that best player available is kind of
- 1:37:44Speaker 4: non existent because they're all kind of the same level
- 1:37:47Speaker 4: of talent. So you need the best player available for
- 1:37:50Speaker 4: your particular situation.
- 1:37:52Speaker 3: To need the guy that turns out to be the
- 1:37:54Speaker 3: best player available. Because I understand what everybody says about
- 1:37:58Speaker 3: this draft, and Fred, you're a big proponent of this.
- 1:38:02Speaker 3: Everybody says four, five, ten, twelve, sixty, same. It ain't
- 1:38:06Speaker 3: gonna work out that way. Two or three of those
- 1:38:10Speaker 3: guys that get picked out of those fifteen spots are
- 1:38:12Speaker 3: gonna be much better than the rest. You need to
- 1:38:14Speaker 3: find the one that's much better than the rest, right,
- 1:38:18Speaker 3: because it doesn't work in a vacuum where all players
- 1:38:20Speaker 3: are equal. That's how they're all rated. I agree with Evan.
- 1:38:23Speaker 3: That's how everything I've read, that's how they described this draft. Yeah,
- 1:38:27Speaker 3: and it's even a bigger gap once you get to
- 1:38:29Speaker 3: like twenty to fifty. Yeah, people think is basically the same.
- 1:38:33Speaker 3: It ain't gonna work out that way. And one of
- 1:38:35Speaker 3: those receivers that gets drafted there's gonna be Terry McLaurin
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: and another one's gonna be Nikhil Harry.
- 1:38:39Speaker 4: Correct.
- 1:38:39Speaker 3: You gotta make sure you find out which one's McLaurin, right.
- 1:38:42Speaker 4: I agree with you. I just there's two things that
- 1:38:45Speaker 4: are that are coming out about about this draft a lot,
- 1:38:48Speaker 4: and one of them is, you know, about the positional value.
- 1:38:51Speaker 4: Will Campbell guard tackle that sort of thing? And the
- 1:38:53Speaker 4: other thing that is big is trading down. And to
- 1:38:56Speaker 4: both those things, you know, I've kind of already made
- 1:38:59Speaker 4: my point about Campbell thing. But to the trade down people,
- 1:39:03Speaker 4: you can't just make up a trade, right, like, people
- 1:39:06Speaker 4: have to be interested in wanting to trade up for
- 1:39:09Speaker 4: your pick. And then if you trade down to let's
- 1:39:12Speaker 4: say nine, which is a popular trade down with New
- 1:39:15Speaker 4: Orleans right now, and the Patriots are at four, you
- 1:39:18Speaker 4: need five other guys to go between four through eight,
- 1:39:21Speaker 4: so that your guy makes it to nine. So who
- 1:39:24Speaker 4: is going from four to eight? That's pushing Will Campbell
- 1:39:28Speaker 4: down to nine.
- 1:39:29Speaker 2: Well, I think a lot of the trade down people
- 1:39:31Speaker 2: don't care. They have a lot of guys that they're
- 1:39:34Speaker 2: willing to take at nine and that's the point.
- 1:39:36Speaker 3: And that's okay, Yeah, as long as you get a
- 1:39:38Speaker 3: guy that's really good, right right, because there will be
- 1:39:41Speaker 3: a difference between five six some of those A couple
- 1:39:44Speaker 3: of those plays are going to be really good and
- 1:39:45Speaker 3: a couple of them are. It's just the way it is.
- 1:39:47Speaker 3: Every year.
- 1:39:48Speaker 4: I just hear a lot of the value isn't there,
- 1:39:51Speaker 4: so I take them at eight, but I wouldn't take
- 1:39:53Speaker 4: them at four. And it's like, okay, but in this draft,
- 1:39:56Speaker 4: there's not the depth in the top ten that's gonna
- 1:39:59Speaker 4: push those players down to eight. So there's no quarterbacks.
- 1:40:04Speaker 2: Well, I think they're saying I'd rather have two players
- 1:40:07Speaker 2: of equal value than one player because they're all the same.
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: How you getting two because you're you're trading down. You're
- 1:40:13Speaker 2: picking up an asset, right, Yeah.
- 1:40:15Speaker 3: But there's not gonna be an equal value you're gonna get. Well,
- 1:40:17Speaker 3: you're gonna swap spots and get like a second round pick.
- 1:40:19Speaker 2: Yeah, and maybe I can get lucky and you get two.
- 1:40:22Speaker 3: Good and you're not getting two first round but you can.
- 1:40:25Speaker 2: You get volume, and maybe you know, because everyone's about equal,
- 1:40:28Speaker 2: maybe I can get two good players instead of one.
- 1:40:31Speaker 4: I hear what you're saying. I just I think you
- 1:40:33Speaker 4: have to be prepared in this type of draft that
- 1:40:35Speaker 4: if you do make a trade down like that, there's
- 1:40:38Speaker 4: a very good chance absolutely that you are not going
- 1:40:41Speaker 4: to get your guy. And I think it's just like
- 1:40:43Speaker 4: a foregone conclusion, like oh, let's just trade down to
- 1:40:45Speaker 4: eight and we'll just draft Campbell then yeah, no, I
- 1:40:48Speaker 4: and it's.
- 1:40:48Speaker 3: Like it's just as easy that you trade down and
- 1:40:51Speaker 3: end up with cold Strange instead.
- 1:40:52Speaker 2: Of I think it's Patriots fans we have to go
- 1:40:54Speaker 2: into this draft thinking stay put, just pick your guys,
- 1:40:58Speaker 2: pick your players.
- 1:40:58Speaker 4: That's how I feel, because I just feel like things
- 1:41:02Speaker 4: like positional value, I think are going to matter more
- 1:41:04Speaker 4: in a draft like this where all everyone's kind of
- 1:41:08Speaker 4: stacked vertically the same. Yeah, and so now it's like
- 1:41:11Speaker 4: we need to tackle, we need a pass rusher, we
- 1:41:13Speaker 4: need a wide receiver, and it's just going to kind
- 1:41:15Speaker 4: of go as a Flavors draft more than it is
- 1:41:18Speaker 4: going to be.
- 1:41:18Speaker 2: Like I can tell you for the draft show that
- 1:41:20Speaker 2: we do, I will not be wearing a tux. This
- 1:41:23Speaker 2: isn't that. This isn't that type of draft. Now, we're
- 1:41:26Speaker 2: not going to be getting the course. I'm not going
- 1:41:27Speaker 2: to be wearing a tux. It's more of a workman
- 1:41:29Speaker 2: like draft. I might be wearing a blue Quala.
- 1:41:32Speaker 4: This is this is socks for Christmas draft.
- 1:41:36Speaker 3: This is this socks for your draft for a long time,
- 1:41:38Speaker 3: and you brought me to that side, the Will Campbell's side.
- 1:41:42Speaker 4: And it's not just Will Campbell, but if it's Mason Graham,
- 1:41:45Speaker 4: it's Mason Graham. But like this is a little less
- 1:41:47Speaker 4: This is not your This is not the shining new
- 1:41:50Speaker 4: toy draft like that might come next year hopefully, you know,
- 1:41:54Speaker 4: but that this is a socks and underwear for Christmas dress.
- 1:41:57Speaker 2: That's exactly right, Blue Kuala, Let's see, Michael writes him.
- 1:42:02Speaker 2: We're going to pick on Evan a little bit more here,
- 1:42:04Speaker 2: he says. Following the Patriots victory at Cincinnati, the esteemed
- 1:42:08Speaker 2: Evan Lazarre stated that he believed Stevenson was in the
- 1:42:10Speaker 2: conversation with McCaffrey and others for best impact running backs.
- 1:42:14Speaker 2: Fast forward to today. Would you trade in or otherwise
- 1:42:17Speaker 2: draft to replace Stevenson? Maybe Drake skuy Hampton.
- 1:42:21Speaker 4: I don't remember saying that, but I don't remember saying that.
- 1:42:24Speaker 3: I remember saying that.
- 1:42:27Speaker 5: I don't remember saying that, I'm gonna go with doesn't
- 1:42:29Speaker 5: sound like Evan, But.
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: We were all kind of high after that game and
- 1:42:34Speaker 2: Stevens run.
- 1:42:36Speaker 3: He had a great game. Yeah, did anybody ever consider
- 1:42:39Speaker 3: him one of the best running backs in football?
- 1:42:42Speaker 16: Bee?
- 1:42:42Speaker 2: Well, I think he said impact players.
- 1:42:44Speaker 3: That's Christian McCaffrey's. I mean, that's that's a different I
- 1:42:47Speaker 3: don't know.
- 1:42:48Speaker 5: I would address it a big.
- 1:42:49Speaker 3: Boy he said it.
- 1:42:51Speaker 5: I would take a swing on a on the draft
- 1:42:53Speaker 5: pick this year, for sure.
- 1:42:54Speaker 3: I heard them talking on one of my shows yesterday
- 1:42:56Speaker 3: about the possibility of trading Herman Seers.
- 1:43:00Speaker 2: I think everything's on the table. That's it right now.
- 1:43:03Speaker 4: That's another tough one though, in terms of and Zoe
- 1:43:05Speaker 4: were talking about the contract, like they just signed him
- 1:43:08Speaker 4: to this contract. So he's doing a lot of money
- 1:43:10Speaker 4: on that contract.
- 1:43:11Speaker 3: But he's easily tradable, But what's the value going to be?
- 1:43:14Speaker 4: It's already a devalued position, and on top of that,
- 1:43:17Speaker 4: now he's being paid well to play that position.
- 1:43:21Speaker 2: Is it worth well if you're just looking for assets
- 1:43:24Speaker 2: because you're thinking of bundling to go up, you know,
- 1:43:26Speaker 2: maybe that's the.
- 1:43:27Speaker 4: Fifth if you get a fourth or fifth round pick,
- 1:43:29Speaker 4: what like? Do would you rather just have Hermandra Stevens,
- 1:43:32Speaker 4: Oh yeah.
- 1:43:32Speaker 3: I'm just saying if you were helpent on trading him, sure,
- 1:43:35Speaker 3: And I think that what they were doing, you know,
- 1:43:37Speaker 3: in Beatle and Zoe's defense, Beatle was sort of talking about,
- 1:43:42Speaker 3: you know, the style and depending on how they're going
- 1:43:44Speaker 3: to run the ball too right, you know, is Josh
- 1:43:46Speaker 3: going to go to that traditional gap power stuff that
- 1:43:50Speaker 3: Evan talks about all the time, And you were talking
- 1:43:52Speaker 3: about it with Rabes like, probably want to keep Stevenson.
- 1:43:56Speaker 3: He's more suited to Jess.
- 1:43:58Speaker 4: I definitely hope they are going that.
- 1:44:00Speaker 2: Now.
- 1:44:00Speaker 3: If they stick with the zone stuff, then maybe you
- 1:44:03Speaker 3: move on because I don't think he's really suited to it.
- 1:44:06Speaker 2: Good point eight five five PATS five hundred is the
- 1:44:08Speaker 2: eighth tp X hotline. Josh is in Tennessee. What's up, Josh? Josh?
- 1:44:17Speaker 2: You're calling from Cold Strange land. Josh now going once
- 1:44:22Speaker 2: twice three, he's gone. We'll go to Agaam. Patty's there.
- 1:44:26Speaker 2: What's up, Patty?
- 1:44:28Speaker 15: What's up?
- 1:44:29Speaker 10: Everyone?
- 1:44:29Speaker 5: Hey, hey, hey, Paul and Evan.
- 1:44:32Speaker 10: That is a great fight. We need more of that
- 1:44:34Speaker 10: in the show.
- 1:44:35Speaker 2: Yeah, Audrey says, bravo to all of you, and it
- 1:44:37Speaker 2: came fire and laughter is back. Well done, so Audrey approves.
- 1:44:42Speaker 10: Great.
- 1:44:43Speaker 13: Great.
- 1:44:44Speaker 10: You guys were talking about like the game growing internationally
- 1:44:48Speaker 10: and possibly like getting you know, players to come out
- 1:44:51Speaker 10: come over here from other countries. Do you think that's
- 1:44:54Speaker 10: a good avenue to try and like maybe like get
- 1:44:58Speaker 10: off inensive lineman sort of like develop offensive line because
- 1:45:02Speaker 10: it seems like here in America, like with the growth
- 1:45:05Speaker 10: of seven on seven.
- 1:45:06Speaker 15: We've were seen a lot of skill guys, like a
- 1:45:08Speaker 15: lot of cornerbacks, wide receivers, but it just seems to
- 1:45:13Speaker 15: be that the online talent seems to be brest. You know,
- 1:45:16Speaker 15: it doesn't seem to be there like it used to be.
- 1:45:19Speaker 15: And I'll take it off fair.
- 1:45:20Speaker 2: Guys, Okay, yeah, I mean, if you're big and you're
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: fairly coordinated, a guy like Dante Scarnecia can mold you
- 1:45:30Speaker 2: into probably a good offensive lineman and but you've got
- 1:45:34Speaker 2: to have the measurables, and you know, like I said,
- 1:45:36Speaker 2: you have to be somewhat coordinated. Yeah, yeah, sure, I.
- 1:45:39Speaker 4: Was a Sea Bass was in that category. Like he
- 1:45:42Speaker 4: played in college, but he didn't play a ton of American.
- 1:45:45Speaker 2: Football, like two years at Houston or something like that.
- 1:45:47Speaker 4: Yeah, but he was six y six and could move
- 1:45:50Speaker 4: and talk.
- 1:45:51Speaker 5: I think.
- 1:45:51Speaker 9: So those are the countries you kind of have to target, though,
- 1:45:53Speaker 9: like your Germany's, like American Samola, places like that. I
- 1:45:57Speaker 9: find those big because like frankly, I don't think you're
- 1:46:00Speaker 9: going to find them in Brazil.
- 1:46:01Speaker 2: But yeah, Germany.
- 1:46:04Speaker 4: Let me a kicker, Yeah, a big guy.
- 1:46:08Speaker 2: Justin's in Kansas City. Hey Justin?
- 1:46:11Speaker 20: Hey, what's going on guys?
- 1:46:12Speaker 3: Hey?
- 1:46:15Speaker 20: So a quick question. I know that like kind of
- 1:46:20Speaker 20: the smart thing quote unquote to do is at fourth
- 1:46:25Speaker 20: grab abdul Carter. Uh, if he's available. I'm a big
- 1:46:29Speaker 20: Travis Hunter guy. If that guy's available, I don't think
- 1:46:31Speaker 20: he's going to be available. But how long do you
- 1:46:36Speaker 20: think that it is justifiable to kind of kick the
- 1:46:41Speaker 20: can down the road when it comes to offensive tackle
- 1:46:43Speaker 20: and wide receiver, because it already feels like it's been
- 1:46:46Speaker 20: a very long time, you know, like with Trent Brown,
- 1:46:49Speaker 20: it felt like that was kind of a stopgap with
- 1:46:51Speaker 20: wide receiver. It feels like he failed for like a
- 1:46:54Speaker 20: very long time in drafting wide receivers. Sometimes I have
- 1:47:00Speaker 20: been asking the question lately that like, is best player
- 1:47:05Speaker 20: available still the best route when building a football team
- 1:47:10Speaker 20: in every single instance? You know, Like I understand that,
- 1:47:14Speaker 20: like we get into positional value and whatnot. But I
- 1:47:20Speaker 20: let's say, hypothetically, Will Campbell can be like Nate Solders
- 1:47:23Speaker 20: like and Abdul Carter is like this, like perennial all
- 1:47:26Speaker 20: Pro player like Nate Solder is not considered to be
- 1:47:32Speaker 20: an amazing all time Patriot, but he gave you something
- 1:47:36Speaker 20: that was extremely reliable that you didn't have to worry
- 1:47:39Speaker 20: about that offensive tackle position. Like how valuable is it
- 1:47:42Speaker 20: to just not have to worry about these positions anymore?
- 1:47:48Speaker 3: Yeah, it seems like a lot, I mean, I mean yeah,
- 1:47:52Speaker 3: I would just ask, justin do you have examples of
- 1:47:55Speaker 3: what you think as times where they aired by taking
- 1:47:58Speaker 3: the best player available as opposed to to filling a
- 1:48:01Speaker 3: need or vice versa.
- 1:48:03Speaker 20: I'll give you one Specifically, I think that Christian Gonzalez
- 1:48:07Speaker 20: is a way better player than like Jackson Smith and
- 1:48:10Speaker 20: the Jagbob. But I think we would feel more secure
- 1:48:15Speaker 20: as a team if we had a guy like j
- 1:48:18Speaker 20: Jackson the Jacobs.
- 1:48:21Speaker 3: It's a good example. When did that they got the
- 1:48:23Speaker 3: better player? Oh, I think you can make an argument
- 1:48:27Speaker 3: that Jackson Smith and Jig is a better player than
- 1:48:30Speaker 3: Christian Gonzales. I think you could easily make that argument.
- 1:48:32Speaker 3: I think you can make it the other way, just
- 1:48:33Speaker 3: as just as easy Gonzales is better than him. But
- 1:48:37Speaker 3: which one of them would be better for.
- 1:48:39Speaker 20: The team that like? I think the consensus is that
- 1:48:42Speaker 20: Christian Gonzalez is like a top five to seven corner
- 1:48:47Speaker 20: and Jackson Smith the Jigs is not necessarily there yet.
- 1:48:49Speaker 20: I think he can get there.
- 1:48:50Speaker 3: But I think it's a different a different animal you're
- 1:48:53Speaker 3: asking about. I wouldn't put Gonzales in that company yet, But.
- 1:48:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I just I kind of disagree. It was a
- 1:49:03Speaker 2: lot more receiver your original premise justin about the Patriots
- 1:49:06Speaker 2: kicking the can down the road. When it comes to why.
- 1:49:08Speaker 3: They've certainly done that at tackle, I don't think they've
- 1:49:10Speaker 3: done it every summer.
- 1:49:11Speaker 2: They just missing they're whipping.
- 1:49:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean they just took one that really the
- 1:49:16Speaker 3: first pick that they had a choice of anything, they
- 1:49:18Speaker 3: took a wide receiver.
- 1:49:19Speaker 2: Last year, right, exactly right.
- 1:49:21Speaker 3: I mean you had to take Drake may Att three, right,
- 1:49:24Speaker 3: So the first pick that they had an option, they
- 1:49:26Speaker 3: took a wide receiver and they missed. Yeah, just what
- 1:49:29Speaker 3: three or four years earlier they took a wide receiver
- 1:49:32Speaker 3: in the first round and missed, right.
- 1:49:33Speaker 6: And they were pursuing free agent wide receivers last year
- 1:49:36Speaker 6: as well and missed. But I think the tackle example
- 1:49:38Speaker 6: is a great one, and that's what we went into
- 1:49:40Speaker 6: that last season thinking they've ignored this position. There isn't
- 1:49:43Speaker 6: even really an attempt. And I mean, go back to
- 1:49:46Speaker 6: Isaiah Win. I think that's kind of where it started
- 1:49:48Speaker 6: to unravel a little bit.
- 1:49:49Speaker 2: Is projecting him a little bit of I started unraveling
- 1:49:52Speaker 2: with Joe Toney.
- 1:49:53Speaker 4: Yeah, but isaiahen was even before that.
- 1:49:55Speaker 2: It started unraveling with Joe.
- 1:49:58Speaker 3: I think it was Isaiah Win.
- 1:50:00Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, fair enough.
- 1:50:01Speaker 3: But I think you tried to draft your next left tackle,
- 1:50:04Speaker 3: like you had somebody, you know, with Matt Light and
- 1:50:06Speaker 3: with Nate Solder, and you have the next one and
- 1:50:08Speaker 3: he missed.
- 1:50:09Speaker 6: Owt agreed, you got Trent Brown on the straight and
- 1:50:10Speaker 6: narrow for a year. That was maybe a fool's goal
- 1:50:13Speaker 6: that you were buying into.
- 1:50:14Speaker 5: You tried to do it again. It didn't work out
- 1:50:15Speaker 5: the same way.
- 1:50:16Speaker 3: But they haven't really tried since.
- 1:50:18Speaker 5: Yea, they haven't. That's why I agree with it was
- 1:50:20Speaker 5: certainly not last year.
- 1:50:21Speaker 3: The caller, I forget the caller's name now from Kansas
- 1:50:23Speaker 3: City was Justin. Justin, Justin and Kansas City.
- 1:50:25Speaker 2: I agree with him.
- 1:50:26Speaker 3: I think they've kicked that can down the road too much.
- 1:50:29Speaker 6: Yeah, with tackle, that's why it's appealing to just stabilize it.
- 1:50:33Speaker 6: And you know, if it is like a Ronnie Stanley
- 1:50:35Speaker 6: is a little sure, but like you just get a
- 1:50:37Speaker 6: guy there where you're like, that is our left tackle come.
- 1:50:39Speaker 6: You know, whatever happens, rain or shine, this is going
- 1:50:42Speaker 6: to be our guy next year. But like one other
- 1:50:44Speaker 6: point us talking about this, the key's popping in my
- 1:50:46Speaker 6: head is like you're never done.
- 1:50:47Speaker 5: You're never like the.
- 1:50:48Speaker 6: Offensive lines all set and then somebody goes down week
- 1:50:50Speaker 6: to U training camp and you're scrambling. I think it's
- 1:50:53Speaker 6: as much about getting the program back in shape, really
- 1:50:55Speaker 6: having coaches that you believe in and being able to
- 1:50:58Speaker 6: withstand the inevitable injuries that are going to all of
- 1:51:00Speaker 6: a sudden change it. You're just you're never also our personnel.
- 1:51:03Speaker 6: We're all set, we're good. Let's just ride at the
- 1:51:04Speaker 6: super But.
- 1:51:05Speaker 3: If you could get it to the point where, you know,
- 1:51:08Speaker 3: use your Stanley and maybe they draft the tackle too.
- 1:51:13Speaker 3: And now, like Kayden Wallace is sort of like a
- 1:51:15Speaker 3: third tackle type and inside you know you have David
- 1:51:20Speaker 3: Andrews back at center and wan who you feel pretty
- 1:51:23Speaker 3: good about it, right guard? I like the idea of
- 1:51:27Speaker 3: now I have Cole Strange or Leyden Robinson or whoever
- 1:51:32Speaker 3: else you want to put into the you know, Ben Brown,
- 1:51:34Speaker 3: does he have any flexibility to play center? Or you
- 1:51:37Speaker 3: know Jake Andrews, you guys mentioned earlier in the show.
- 1:51:40Speaker 3: I feel a little bit better about those are my third, fourth,
- 1:51:43Speaker 3: and fifth options as opposed to I got to start
- 1:51:45Speaker 3: Ben Brown and de Madre Jacobs and Vederian Lowe.
- 1:51:48Speaker 6: That's all I'm asking this year is like, can we
- 1:51:50Speaker 6: just get Leyden Robinson up to a serviceable level? Can
- 1:51:52Speaker 6: we just get Kayden Wallace up to a serviceable level?
- 1:51:55Speaker 5: Can we?
- 1:51:55Speaker 6: I mean the ship's probably sailed on city, so but
- 1:51:58Speaker 6: those kind of guys can just one, Yeah, maybe two
- 1:52:00Speaker 6: of those, that's all.
- 1:52:01Speaker 5: I'm asking one or two.
- 1:52:02Speaker 2: Sheriff in town and his name is Doug, Doug Maroon.
- 1:52:06Speaker 3: I don't think Frank will come up with what is
- 1:52:10Speaker 3: Reggia Hammond?
- 1:52:11Speaker 6: But it's just a great example of that position group.
- 1:52:13Speaker 6: Because I've been here, you know, six seasons now, it's
- 1:52:16Speaker 6: been a different group every single year, different coaches. There's
- 1:52:19Speaker 6: no stability there coaches, there's no consistency and message. And
- 1:52:22Speaker 6: you realize how valuable that was, and then you get
- 1:52:25Speaker 6: away from it and you realize this year is a
- 1:52:27Speaker 6: blow up again, just like last year was, and you're
- 1:52:29Speaker 6: just trying desperately to find that stylity.
- 1:52:31Speaker 2: Sam's in Connecticut. Hey, Sam, Sam is no longer in Connecticut. Willson,
- 1:52:37Speaker 2: Kentucky will love us all right, Hello.
- 1:52:43Speaker 20: You on a forklift.
- 1:52:47Speaker 3: I want to pay attention.
- 1:52:51Speaker 14: What about Burden at nine?
- 1:52:54Speaker 4: What did he say?
- 1:52:55Speaker 8: Luth?
- 1:52:57Speaker 4: But he is a head case man like you gotta
- 1:53:00Speaker 4: had a tough year. You gotta really make sure that
- 1:53:02Speaker 4: that some of the you know, diva wide receiver stuff
- 1:53:05Speaker 4: that he showed last year, like none of it's like
- 1:53:08Speaker 4: doesn't seem to be anything too serious, but just had
- 1:53:10Speaker 4: some meltdowns on the sideline and took him himself out
- 1:53:13Speaker 4: of games and stuff like that, so you gotta clear him.
- 1:53:16Speaker 4: And oh yeah, I mean it's definitely frustration because he
- 1:53:21Speaker 4: wasn't getting the ball, but I mean that's still that's
- 1:53:23Speaker 4: always going to.
- 1:53:23Speaker 3: Be part of a disappointing year in general.
- 1:53:25Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, he's Uh, he's an intriguing prospect. I love
- 1:53:30Speaker 4: Luther Burden on film, but I like.
- 1:53:32Speaker 3: Him a lot.
- 1:53:32Speaker 2: A guy driving around a forklift.
- 1:53:35Speaker 6: I don't think he's a little bit when we start
- 1:53:38Speaker 6: working how field, the whole segment about forklift.
- 1:53:41Speaker 9: The hands free on speaker, it's a good question.
- 1:53:43Speaker 3: Good player player, I like him.
- 1:53:47Speaker 2: Kyle and Pembroke has an over under off season over
- 1:53:51Speaker 2: under game like it off season. Let's see trades by
- 1:53:55Speaker 2: the Patriots one and a half.
- 1:53:56Speaker 3: Over for the whole off season.
- 1:53:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess over over over call calls per show
- 1:54:02Speaker 2: about Hunter versus Carter ten and A Hay already done that. Yeah,
- 1:54:11Speaker 2: Campbell's arm length thirty two and a Hay Next Sunday,
- 1:54:14Speaker 2: I'll find please, I can't get here enough.
- 1:54:16Speaker 4: I'm going to measure the guy's arms myself at this point,
- 1:54:19Speaker 4: Like Jesus, tell me how long the arms are?
- 1:54:24Speaker 8: How long?
- 1:54:24Speaker 3: These are the things they keep them up.
- 1:54:25Speaker 2: At over on bringing measuring, I say, over conversations about
- 1:54:33Speaker 2: washers and dryers four and a half.
- 1:54:35Speaker 3: Unfortunately over I think we might be.
- 1:54:38Speaker 2: Everybody knows why.
- 1:54:40Speaker 9: That's usually once my favorite interior designer I follow, Just
- 1:54:44Speaker 9: like redid a whole client's laundry. It's not even like
- 1:54:48Speaker 9: a laundry closet. It's a huge room. Speed queens.
- 1:54:51Speaker 2: There you go, there you go, there you go.
- 1:54:54Speaker 3: That's where the designers go.
- 1:54:55Speaker 6: You clean out your driver, you know what to look vacuum.
- 1:54:59Speaker 6: Is that something a home owner should do? Well, they
- 1:55:02Speaker 6: will do that, but can't I just get a way
- 1:55:04Speaker 6: to get what events?
- 1:55:05Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 1:55:05Speaker 5: Your dry Yeah take a leaf. Oh geez, that's an
- 1:55:10Speaker 5: interesting idea.
- 1:55:11Speaker 2: Not the one that you scoop out with your hand.
- 1:55:13Speaker 2: I'm talking about the one that goes to.
- 1:55:14Speaker 9: The actual events.
- 1:55:15Speaker 2: How do you do that?
- 1:55:16Speaker 3: You stick a little something in the.
- 1:55:21Speaker 4: Stick things?
- 1:55:21Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:55:22Speaker 4: I think it was.
- 1:55:24Speaker 3: Yeah, you should. You should clean it out a little bit.
- 1:55:28Speaker 3: But even if you have to, you know, take off
- 1:55:31Speaker 3: the you know, detach. It is the word I'm using.
- 1:55:34Speaker 3: Words are heard. That's why we don't write your.
- 1:55:37Speaker 4: Writers, Paul anymore your works.
- 1:55:40Speaker 2: Finally, Lawns Mode by Evan Hey.
- 1:55:43Speaker 4: I don't have a lot to.
- 1:55:47Speaker 5: Choose not to May was when we get into the moment, right.
- 1:55:50Speaker 4: Man, I'm never going to love that one.
- 1:55:52Speaker 3: I don't think I'm never going to have to mow
- 1:55:53Speaker 3: my law. There's so much ice on my grass.
- 1:55:56Speaker 5: It's like a skating drink out.
- 1:55:57Speaker 3: There's huge, huge piles of ice.
- 1:55:59Speaker 2: It comes back, it always comes back right now. It's dormant, dormant.
- 1:56:06Speaker 2: It's not suffering. It's dormant.
- 1:56:09Speaker 4: Is it like Ted Williams, like.
- 1:56:12Speaker 3: It's cut off head in cryogenics?
- 1:56:16Speaker 2: Neil and New Brunswick's dormant, dormant, subtle thing some down
- 1:56:27Speaker 2: Neil and New Brunswick. Does anyone know if Merrill Hodge
- 1:56:29Speaker 2: took a victory lap. I still hope he's wrong in
- 1:56:32Speaker 2: the long term. But is it true that he said
- 1:56:34Speaker 2: that Drake May is a coach killer and any team
- 1:56:36Speaker 2: at traft him will be firing their coach. That's exactly
- 1:56:39Speaker 2: what happened, not because it's Drake May. Actually I'm very
- 1:56:45Speaker 2: hopeful for Drake May. But he also had the most
- 1:56:48Speaker 2: over over hype one not one and nine season in
- 1:56:52Speaker 2: NFL history, in which he had ten interceptions nine fumbles.
- 1:56:56Speaker 2: If a Jets rookie did that, we'd be calling it
- 1:56:58Speaker 2: a bus. We can see the potential, and I sincerely
- 1:57:01Speaker 2: hope with more help and better coaching, it's going to happen.
- 1:57:05Speaker 2: The team has two seasons to decide if they want
- 1:57:07Speaker 2: to give him fifty million dollars a year. Also, do
- 1:57:10Speaker 2: you have any veteran quarterbacks you'd like to see come
- 1:57:12Speaker 2: in this offseason?
- 1:57:14Speaker 4: The team has more than two seasons to decide whether
- 1:57:16Speaker 4: they're going to give him fifty million.
- 1:57:18Speaker 3: Maybe three?
- 1:57:18Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean the fifth year option will be between
- 1:57:20Speaker 4: the year three and four, right, so at least.
- 1:57:23Speaker 3: Have that's if he works, you want to that's that's
- 1:57:26Speaker 3: what that's when you re up him.
- 1:57:28Speaker 4: After pretty easy assumption with the fifth year option, I think.
- 1:57:31Speaker 8: What do we do?
- 1:57:32Speaker 3: What do we feel about a veteran backup?
- 1:57:34Speaker 4: All set?
- 1:57:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm kind of don't need.
- 1:57:36Speaker 5: It, kind of disinterested. I think you still need an arm.
- 1:57:40Speaker 3: Do you think Joe Milton's the backup?
- 1:57:42Speaker 5: I hope so, I'd like to give him every chance
- 1:57:43Speaker 5: to be. I wouldn't assume that's the case.
- 1:57:45Speaker 6: I think I'd still bring somebody in, but it'd be
- 1:57:47Speaker 6: more like a not a Jacobe Brissette, but somebody even more.
- 1:57:51Speaker 2: How much? How many games do you think they're gonna
- 1:57:53Speaker 2: win this year? Like, let me rephrase that if you
- 1:57:56Speaker 2: were if you were Mike Rabel, how many games do
- 1:57:59Speaker 2: you think he thinks they could win this year? Because
- 1:58:03Speaker 2: if they're gonnat, If he thinks they can win like
- 1:58:06Speaker 2: eight to nine, then I think a veteran backup is
- 1:58:09Speaker 2: more important. If he thinks it's gonna be still overbuilding,
- 1:58:12Speaker 2: then I don't worry about it.
- 1:58:13Speaker 6: Then Yeah, I'd say six to seven, and yeah, be
- 1:58:16Speaker 6: okay right with with somebody just to put.
- 1:58:18Speaker 3: A little competing more than four can I just so
- 1:58:23Speaker 3: like some progress? It's all I'm looking for.
- 1:58:26Speaker 4: I just wonder even less about the backup quarterback position,
- 1:58:29Speaker 4: Like would it help Drake to have a Brian Hoyer?
- 1:58:33Speaker 4: And I'm not I'm just throwing that out there because
- 1:58:35Speaker 4: he's done it Joe right, Like would that help him
- 1:58:39Speaker 4: with the whole thing?
- 1:58:40Speaker 3: I would say, if you're not convinced that Joe Milton
- 1:58:42Speaker 3: can be the backup, then I think you need to
- 1:58:43Speaker 3: get one right.
- 1:58:44Speaker 4: But I'm less worried about that then, like, does he
- 1:58:48Speaker 4: need somebody that isn't Josh McDaniels that can he can
- 1:58:51Speaker 4: maybe go to for for guidance and for advice and
- 1:58:56Speaker 4: you know that sort of stuff. I think Brian Hoyer,
- 1:58:58Speaker 4: you know, was has been big in that kind of
- 1:59:01Speaker 4: capacity in the past for young quarterbacks and these but
- 1:59:04Speaker 4: working with and I don't know if it's necessarily him necessarily,
- 1:59:07Speaker 4: but someone like that who has no, no doubt in
- 1:59:11Speaker 4: his mind that he is not pushing for any playing time, right,
- 1:59:14Speaker 4: Like we're talking about a true clipboard holder type right, Yeah.
- 1:59:18Speaker 2: All right, Well that's gonna be it for this edition
- 1:59:20Speaker 2: of the show. Alex has to get working on the newsletter.
