- 0:01For someone beginning with meditation, every aspect of the
- 0:05process raises a question. One of these questions relates
- 0:09to the body. The eventual goal is to attain a
- 0:13state where by meditation can occur regardless of what the
- 0:17body is doing, or how it is positioned.
- 0:21However, this is not usually the way things start out.
- 0:25SRI, aurobindo responds on this point, the practice of Yoga
- 0:30Nidra is widely discussed. In modern yoga circles.
- 0:35This involves attaining a lying-down posture for the body
- 0:39and then systematically relaxing.
- 0:41All the limbs muscles and calming the breath.
- 0:46Such that a state of deep relaxation and meditation can
- 0:49result. This practice frequently leads
- 0:53to a state of sleep, as the mind, the breath and the body
- 0:58all are habituated to treat such actions as an invitation to
- 1:03sleep. If one attempts meditation while
- 1:07walking or standing, there is an increased level of alertness to
- 1:11the outer world, as well as physical reactions, required to
- 1:16remain standing or moving, And these are habitually treated as
- 1:21an invitation to the Consciousness.
- 1:23Moving, outwards to the external world.
- 1:28It is thus that the seated posture becomes the most
- 1:31recommended one for those starting with meditation.
- 1:35There are many recommendations for specific asanas to be
- 1:38attained and specific ways of sitting to be followed.
- 1:43But the main issue for starting meditation should be a
- 1:47comfortable seated posture. That can be held motionless for
- 1:51some time. While the Mind moves its focused
- 1:54inward or upward Eventually, as the practice of meditation
- 2:01deepens, in the being, you can take place anywhere under any
- 2:05circumstances. The Seeker, however, should be
- 2:09prepared for steps or stages to reach this result.
- 2:14SRI aurobindo writes quote. The sitting motionless posture
- 2:19is the natural posture for concentrated meditation.
- 2:23Walking and standing are active conditions.
- 2:27It is only when one is gained the enduring rest and passivity
- 2:30of the Consciousness that it is easy to concentrate and receive
- 2:35when walking or doing anything else.
- 2:39A fundamental passive condition of the Consciousness gathered in
- 2:43itself is the proper poised for concentration and a seated
- 2:48gathered in mobility in the body is the best position for that.
- 2:53It can be done, also, lying down, but that position is too
- 2:57passive tending to be inert rather than gathered.
- 3:02This is the reason why Yogi's always sit in an off center When
- 3:06can a custom oneself to meditate walking standing lying but
- 3:12sitting is the first natural position and quote reference SRI
