- 1:36Speaker 1: yell out. You can't zero me in the days and
- 1:40Speaker 1: weeks to come. Now, let's get to Sunday's rollercoaster ride.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers entered the game oh and two at Paul
- 1:49Speaker 1: Brown Stadium with losses in two thousand and nine and
- 1:51Speaker 1: two thirteen and the three time MVP. Got off to
- 1:56Speaker 1: a slow start on Sunday. Rogers back to pass, forced
- 2:00Speaker 1: to scramble to the right, running toward the near side,
- 2:02Speaker 1: the Fires went down field, intercepted by chitubay A Wooja,
- 2:06Speaker 1: running up the sideline to the forty toward the middle
- 2:09Speaker 1: of the field to the fifty. The Packers forty five
- 2:12Speaker 1: gets tackled at the green bay forty two by offensive
- 2:16Speaker 1: lineman Billy Turner. Chitubay A Wouja picking off a pass
- 2:21Speaker 1: intended four to Vante Adams. And running it back into
- 2:26Speaker 1: green Bay territory. The Bengals weren't able to take advantage
- 2:29Speaker 1: of the i NT, but the next time they got
- 2:31Speaker 1: the ball, they got on the scoreboards. Joe back at
- 2:34Speaker 1: the nine in the shotgun first and goal from the four.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Burro extends the hands, catches the ball, looks to pass,
- 2:40Speaker 1: fires caught Bacti Riy touchdown Bengals as he peeled out
- 2:46Speaker 1: to the right, caught it around the two and took
- 2:49Speaker 1: it past the pylon for the touchdown. It was seven
- 2:52Speaker 1: nothing Cincinnati at the end of the first quarter, but
- 2:54Speaker 1: Rogers answered with a seventy five yard touchdown drive second
- 2:58Speaker 1: and ten from the Cincinnati twelve, Rogers stomps the right foot,
- 3:02Speaker 1: catches a shoulder high snap, throws left, caught by dylon
- 3:05Speaker 1: tight ropes the sideline, hits the pylon, touchdown. Green Bay
- 3:12Speaker 1: lost coverage on Dylan aj Dillon's twelve yard grab made
- 3:16Speaker 1: at seven six, and it stayed seven six when Mason
- 3:20Speaker 1: Crosby missed the extra point. Crosby made a forty four
- 3:24Speaker 1: yard field goal on the Packers next drive to give
- 3:26Speaker 1: Green Bay a nine to seven lead, and late in
- 3:28Speaker 1: a half, that lead grew when Rogers aimed for his
- 3:32Speaker 1: favorite target, Aaron Jones lined up behind Aaron Rodgers tightly
- 3:36Speaker 1: bunched formation. Rogers throws it into the end zone and
- 3:40Speaker 1: it is caught. Now the ball pops out late. The
- 3:42Speaker 1: touchdown signal is given. Adams with the catch. Trey Wayne's
- 3:47Speaker 1: in coverage after Adams went out of bounds. The ball
- 3:50Speaker 1: popped out, but the official there threw up his arms
- 3:53Speaker 1: to say touchdown. Davante Adams, the NFL leader in receptions
- 3:57Speaker 1: going into the game, finished with eleven catches for a
- 4:00Speaker 1: career high two hundred six yards. Here's a wouje and
- 4:05Speaker 1: what the Bengals did to try to stop Rogers two
- 4:08Speaker 1: Adams everything, you know. We tried a lot of things. Obviously,
- 4:13Speaker 1: great players, great connection between those two. He has some
- 4:17Speaker 1: row coverages, we have some double coverages, we have some
- 4:19Speaker 1: single dove coverses. We had quarters, we had man we
- 4:22Speaker 1: had zones, we had we had everything. The touchdown pass
- 4:25Speaker 1: made it sixteen to seven with sixty seven seconds left
- 4:29Speaker 1: in the half, plenty of time for Burrow to answer.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Fifty seconds left. Shotgun snapped to Burrow. Good protection. He's looking,
- 4:36Speaker 1: he's looking scrambling right, still looking Burrow is gonna step
- 4:40Speaker 1: into a deep ball finals down field for Chase. Yeah,
- 4:44Speaker 1: he does. Look at twenty the ten the bullet touchdown Bengals.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Joe Burrow waited and waited and waited, and eventually delivered
- 4:57Speaker 1: a strike to Jamar Chase for a touchdown with thirty
- 5:02Speaker 1: six seconds left and a half seventy yards from Burrow
- 5:06Speaker 1: to Chase. It was Jamar's fifth touchdown in five NFL games.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Scrambled drew something we work on that practice ended up
- 5:15Speaker 1: happening in the game. I've seen Julle run out to
- 5:17Speaker 1: the other side of the field. I just cut my
- 5:20Speaker 1: eyes on Julian ranted on the side like he did.
- 5:22Speaker 1: How tough was that all that? Dau looked like it
- 5:24Speaker 1: almost was right by his handy he touched it all way.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I don't think he touched that at all, to be honest.
- 5:29Speaker 1: It went straight through his arms, just like a distraction
- 5:33Speaker 1: drie really. Chase finished with six catches for a career
- 5:35Speaker 1: high one hundred and fifty nine yards, and the Bengals
- 5:38Speaker 1: trailed sixteen fourteen at the half. After winning the coin
- 5:42Speaker 1: toss and deferring for the ninth consecutive game, the Bengals
- 5:46Speaker 1: got the ball to begin the third quarter. They hit
- 5:48Speaker 1: scored on their first drive of the second half and
- 5:51Speaker 1: every game this season, but that streak ended versus Green Bay.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Joe Mixon back in it running back, he bake a
- 5:58Speaker 1: toss sweep to the left in trouble, flings it down
- 6:02Speaker 1: field and it is intercepted. He was trying to float
- 6:05Speaker 1: it down inside the twenty fraudent Tate and Adrian Amos,
- 6:10Speaker 1: the Packers' safety, intercepts and goes down at the seventeen
- 6:13Speaker 1: yard line. The Packers turned that pick into points. A
- 6:17Speaker 1: forty four yard field goal by Crosby gave Green Bay
- 6:19Speaker 1: in nineteen fourteen lead. Going to the fourth quarter, the
- 6:23Speaker 1: Packers were on the verge of going up by two scores,
- 6:26Speaker 1: as they had at first and goal at the six,
- 6:29Speaker 1: but the Bengals defense got a stop, forced Crosby to
- 6:32Speaker 1: kick a short field goal, and the margin was eight.
- 6:35Speaker 1: When Cincinnati got the ball back with about eleven minutes
- 6:38Speaker 1: to go, Burrow and the Bengals went to work, putting
- 6:42Speaker 1: together a thirteen play seventy five yard drive to tie
- 6:47Speaker 1: the game. Two receivers left, one right, Burrow hands it
- 6:50Speaker 1: off mix and bouncing it wide to the right, cuts
- 6:52Speaker 1: back and takes it into the end zone. Touchdown. Bengals
- 6:58Speaker 1: three twenty seven on the clock. Now they will line
- 7:01Speaker 1: up and go for two to try to tie this game.
- 7:05Speaker 1: The Bengals trying to tie it with a two point conversion.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Burrow catches the shotgun snap he's back to throw, moving
- 7:10Speaker 1: to his left, throws toward the back of the end
- 7:12Speaker 1: zone by Hivens on the back line of the end zone.
- 7:17Speaker 1: It's a two point conversion and the Bengals have tied
- 7:21Speaker 1: it with three twenty seven to go. The euphoria was
- 7:25Speaker 1: short lived. On the Packer's next play, Aaron Jones ripped
- 7:29Speaker 1: off a fifty seven yard run, setting up a field
- 7:32Speaker 1: goal try for the lead with about two minutes to go.
- 7:36Speaker 1: This will be a thirty six yard try from the left.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Hash Crosby's kick is up, it is no good. Crosby
- 7:43Speaker 1: missed from thirty six yards. His streak of twenty seven
- 7:48Speaker 1: consecutive made field goals going back to December twenty ninth,
- 7:54Speaker 1: two thousand nineteen comes to an end at the best
- 7:58Speaker 1: possible time for Cincinnati. The Bengals got the ball and
- 8:02Speaker 1: picked up two quick first downs, Then on third and
- 8:06Speaker 1: five at the green bay forty two. They elected to
- 8:09Speaker 1: run the ball and somajp Ryan got tackled at the
- 8:12Speaker 1: thirty nine. It was Evan McPherson's turn to try to
- 8:15Speaker 1: win the game. Twenty six seconds left in regulation, the
- 8:19Speaker 1: Bengals will line up an attempt a fifty seven yard
- 8:22Speaker 1: field goal to take the lead. This would tie the
- 8:24Speaker 1: franchise record for longest field goal. Huber looks back at McPherson,
- 8:29Speaker 1: staring at the rookie kicker just twenty two years old.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Now the snap to put down, the swing of the
- 8:34Speaker 1: right leg, the kick on its way. It hits the
- 8:37Speaker 1: upright man bounces to the right. No good. McPherson's miss
- 8:43Speaker 1: gave Rogers the ball near midfield with twenty one seconds
- 8:46Speaker 1: to go. He fired a twenty yard bullet two adams,
- 8:49Speaker 1: giving Crosby a second chance to be the hero. Three
- 8:52Speaker 1: seconds on the clock. The snap, the kick, It has
- 8:55Speaker 1: the distance. It is no good. He missed it wide left.
- 9:02Speaker 1: After making twenty seven in a row. Crosbie has a
- 9:07Speaker 1: streak going in the other direction. He's missed too straight
- 9:10Speaker 1: and this game will go to overtime. The Bengals won
- 9:14Speaker 1: the toss to begin overtime, of course they did, but
- 9:17Speaker 1: their first play in ot was a disaster. Burrow extends
- 9:22Speaker 1: the hands, catches the snap from Hopkins, stands tall in
- 9:24Speaker 1: the pocket. Short pass picked off. The Packers are running
- 9:28Speaker 1: it back and the tackle made at the seventeen to
- 9:32Speaker 1: Vandre Campbell had the ball thrown right to him. I'm
- 9:36Speaker 1: not even sure who the intended receiver was. Terrible pass
- 9:40Speaker 1: by Joe Burrow, and the Packers are in position to
- 9:42Speaker 1: win this game. To Burrow's credit, he made the tackle.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Had it been a pick six, the Packers would not
- 9:48Speaker 1: have needed to call on Crosbie for another game winning
- 9:52Speaker 1: field goal try. Here we go, the snap, the kick
- 9:56Speaker 1: kit's on its way. It is no good. Oh my gosh,
- 10:02Speaker 1: I don't believe what I have just seen. Mason Crosbie
- 10:05Speaker 1: can't believe it either. He misses three straight after making
- 10:11Speaker 1: twenty seven in a row. Total disbelief from fans rooting
- 10:17Speaker 1: for either team here at Paul Brown Stadium. Let's face it,
- 10:21Speaker 1: the Bengals had gotten lucky. Now it was up to
- 10:23Speaker 1: them to take advantage of it. A twenty one yard
- 10:26Speaker 1: passed to Chase moved them into Packers territory. But on
- 10:30Speaker 1: third and two at the Green Bay thirty three, Joe
- 10:33Speaker 1: Mixon was stopped short of a first down. So after
- 10:37Speaker 1: three miss field goal tries by Crosby and a miss
- 10:40Speaker 1: from fifty seven yards away by McPherson, the Bengals rookie
- 10:44Speaker 1: got another chance to win it. From forty nine yards out.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Cuba ready for the snap from Clark Harris. He extends
- 10:51Speaker 1: the right hand, catches the ball, puts it down to kick,
- 10:53Speaker 1: is on its way. It hits the upright. That is
- 10:57Speaker 1: no good. Oh my gosh. Five missed field goal. Unbelievable?
- 11:02Speaker 1: Does anybody want to win this football game? After drilling
- 11:06Speaker 1: game winning field goals and each of his first two
- 11:08Speaker 1: home games, mc pherson failed on two attempts to make
- 11:12Speaker 1: it three games in a row, and he was shocked
- 11:15Speaker 1: that his overtime try was no good. Honestly, I was
- 11:18Speaker 1: celebrating before the bowl. I guess curved to the left.
- 11:23Speaker 1: But for me, what I saw as I struck it
- 11:25Speaker 1: really well, um and I saw it going right down
- 11:28Speaker 1: the middle, so I kind of I guess you could say,
- 11:30Speaker 1: I kind of know whenever it's gonna go in. And
- 11:32Speaker 1: that was one of those moments and saw us kind
- 11:34Speaker 1: of celebrating with with Kevin whenever it when it hit
- 11:39Speaker 1: a hard left, and so I thought there was no
- 11:43Speaker 1: chance I was really missing left. Um. If anything, I
- 11:47Speaker 1: thought the win was bowling left or right, And so
- 11:48Speaker 1: I guess that that, as you could say. The when
- 11:54Speaker 1: the ball turned left kind of caught me off guard,
- 11:57Speaker 1: And honestly, I thought the rest were playing a game
- 11:59Speaker 1: with us. Whenever I saw I look down there and
- 12:01Speaker 1: they were doing the no good motion. Honestly thought they're
- 12:06Speaker 1: playing a game, because I shrugged really well and I
- 12:08Speaker 1: was real confident that it was going through. The Packers
- 12:10Speaker 1: got the ball at their thirty nine and two big
- 12:12Speaker 1: pass completions by Rogers gave his teammate of fifteen years,
- 12:17Speaker 1: Mason Crosby, one more try, a forty nine yard try
- 12:22Speaker 1: to win it in overtime. Crosby's kip on its way,
- 12:26Speaker 1: it is good, and the Green Bay Packers win it
- 12:31Speaker 1: twenty five to twenty two. Here are Chittabay, a Wouge
- 12:35Speaker 1: and Zach Taylor on a crazy overtime defeats. Ridiculous. Man,
- 12:40Speaker 1: I don't want to go through that too many more times.
- 12:42Speaker 1: But uh, that's that's why we love it. That's what
- 12:45Speaker 1: we love the game, you know, um, obviously being in
- 12:47Speaker 1: it you get to feel the raw emotion. But as
- 12:51Speaker 1: a fan of the game and a fan of just competition,
- 12:57Speaker 1: you know, you don't want to be in any You
- 12:58Speaker 1: want to be in a position. You want to want
- 13:00Speaker 1: to be the ones in a closing game and closing
- 13:03Speaker 1: it out. That thing was a roller coaster. Sometimes they
- 13:06Speaker 1: didn't know how we ended up in the situation where
- 13:08Speaker 1: were in. You know, probably they felt the same way
- 13:09Speaker 1: on their sidelines. But I just told our guys, I
- 13:13Speaker 1: know exactly what kind of football team we have now
- 13:14Speaker 1: if there's any questions about what type of fight we have,
- 13:17Speaker 1: what type of energy we have, what type of love
- 13:19Speaker 1: we have for each other. And I know that the
- 13:21Speaker 1: people that are with the game today, the people that
- 13:22Speaker 1: are watched on TV, they should be proud of this team.
- 13:25Speaker 1: And it's gonna come down to some last second place
- 13:27Speaker 1: and sometimes we'll make them, sometimes we won't. But this
- 13:31Speaker 1: team's gonna fight to the end against the great teams,
- 13:33Speaker 1: great quarterbacks. And I believe in our guys and this
- 13:36Speaker 1: is going to serve us well. Over the course of
- 13:37Speaker 1: the season, the Bengals went toe to toe with a
- 13:39Speaker 1: team that's gone thirty and seven in the last two
- 13:42Speaker 1: plus seasons. But a loss is a loss, and in
- 13:46Speaker 1: the AFC North, you can't afford to lose when a
- 13:49Speaker 1: win is in your grasp. Here again are a Woojia
- 13:53Speaker 1: and Taylor. Personally, I think that was the toughest football
- 13:56Speaker 1: game I've been a part of, just the length of physicality,
- 13:59Speaker 1: the assignment of going against a team like that. So
- 14:04Speaker 1: I think we were started to learn about ourselves. It's
- 14:07Speaker 1: going to be a great film to correct. Disappointed, but
- 14:10Speaker 1: I think everybody's looking in the right direction. We expected
- 14:13Speaker 1: to win this game going into it. We expected, as
- 14:15Speaker 1: it point out, we didn't need a moral victory to
- 14:18Speaker 1: show us that that we're capable of beating great teams
- 14:20Speaker 1: in this league. We just want to win them, you know,
- 14:23Speaker 1: want to put ourselves in better positions. But again, sometimes
- 14:26Speaker 1: when it comes down to something like that, that's just football.
- 14:29Speaker 1: You know. There's there's a lot of teams that each
- 14:31Speaker 1: week walk off the field and they feel like there's
- 14:33Speaker 1: just an inch here there that would have made the
- 14:35Speaker 1: difference in today just didn't go away. And again, it
- 14:39Speaker 1: hurts to lose, but we got to pick ourselves up
- 14:41Speaker 1: and go on the road next week and go and
- 14:42Speaker 1: go play great game against Detroit, but winless Lions are next.
- 14:46Speaker 1: They fell to and five with a two point loss
- 14:48Speaker 1: in Minnesota. Now time for postgame analysis for my broadcast
- 14:52Speaker 1: partner Dave lappa Lap. Just when you think you've seen
- 14:56Speaker 1: it all, you have not five consecutive missed field goals
- 15:01Speaker 1: between the end of regulation and overtime before Mason Crosby
- 15:04Speaker 1: delivers the game winner. The Packers tried to hand it
- 15:07Speaker 1: to the Bengals late and Cincinnati was not able to capitalize. Yeah,
- 15:11Speaker 1: I mean, no one wanted to win that football game.
- 15:13Speaker 1: It'ston like down the stretch, it was crazy. They were all,
- 15:18Speaker 1: you know, other than Crosby had one that was like,
- 15:21Speaker 1: what from forty yards or something like that, or thirty
- 15:23Speaker 1: thirty six or something. He missed one that was kind
- 15:27Speaker 1: of makeable. But thirty six thirty six yard that he missed.
- 15:30Speaker 1: That one surprised me. But all the others, you know,
- 15:32Speaker 1: you're talking about forty nine to fifty five yard field goals.
- 15:36Speaker 1: I mean they're they're not real easy makes. But in
- 15:41Speaker 1: today's NFL, the kickers are so good, your expectations are
- 15:46Speaker 1: I mean, shoot, the fifty. That's like the old forty
- 15:50Speaker 1: two yard field goal. Fifty yard field goal these days.
- 15:53Speaker 1: And I'm telling you a boy, I commented during the
- 15:57Speaker 1: game that both kickers probably wanted to measure the distance
- 15:59Speaker 1: between the upper rights. They were just just missing hitting uprights,
- 16:02Speaker 1: clanging off of uprights and a just a tough, tough day.
- 16:07Speaker 1: McPherson learned a lot today. I mean, that's a that's
- 16:11Speaker 1: a guy. The kickers tonight will not sleep a wink,
- 16:14Speaker 1: There's no question about that. And there's not a whole
- 16:16Speaker 1: lot of guys who are gonna get great. I'm on asleep.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Nobody's gonna sleep eight hours tonight, and I can tell
- 16:20Speaker 1: you that they're all gonna be. You close your eyes
- 16:22Speaker 1: and literally, Dan, it's unbelievable. I remember it's happening to me.
- 16:25Speaker 1: Close my eyes and my balls became projector lenses and
- 16:29Speaker 1: you were seeing plays that could have gone changed the
- 16:32Speaker 1: outcome of the game. And this is one I can't
- 16:36Speaker 1: remember a game that has as many plays in it.
- 16:39Speaker 1: You know, when you're factor in special teams, offense, defense,
- 16:42Speaker 1: it's like there's probably twenty plays that if any one
- 16:46Speaker 1: of them went the other way, it's a different football game.
- 16:49Speaker 1: How about Evan McPherson leaping into the arms of Kevin
- 16:53Speaker 1: Huber on his last field goal attempt because he thought
- 16:55Speaker 1: it was good. He sees the no good signal and
- 16:58Speaker 1: he thought they were joking. That's how good he felt
- 17:00Speaker 1: about that kick. That thing hook It looked like it
- 17:03Speaker 1: was dead center and it kept hooking, hooking, hooking. The
- 17:06Speaker 1: amount that that thing hooked down the stretch was unbelievable.
- 17:09Speaker 1: And I think that because he kicks it so straight.
- 17:12Speaker 1: I think he was stunned. I don't know if it
- 17:14Speaker 1: was a breeze. I don't know what it was that
- 17:16Speaker 1: took that football, but it moved it from the middle
- 17:18Speaker 1: of the uprights to that upright big time in the
- 17:22Speaker 1: last twenty yards that had traveled. I mean, Zach Taylor
- 17:26Speaker 1: was talking about it in the locker room after the game.
- 17:29Speaker 1: He was shocked how much that field goal moved in
- 17:32Speaker 1: the final few yards when it was in the air.
- 17:34Speaker 1: There were a lot of plays in this game. First
- 17:36Speaker 1: drive of the second half, it was third down and two.
- 17:39Speaker 1: They threw an incompletion. It was fourth down and two
- 17:41Speaker 1: they went for it. That got wiped out by a penalty.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Too many situations in this game where the Bengals could
- 17:46Speaker 1: have moved the sticks and failed to do it. Yeah,
- 17:49Speaker 1: I thought that there third and short. I mean, at
- 17:52Speaker 1: one point in the first half there were one for
- 17:54Speaker 1: seven on third down, third and one, third and two,
- 17:57Speaker 1: third and three, third and four. You know, we're four
- 18:00Speaker 1: of the seven attempts on third down, and they weren't.
- 18:03Speaker 1: They weren't converting, they weren't keeping the drives alive. And
- 18:06Speaker 1: I thought that was going to be a big factor.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Obviously when you're playing against number twelve Aaron Rodgers, keep
- 18:11Speaker 1: drives alive, convert on third down, you know, melt the clock,
- 18:15Speaker 1: you know, during the course of the football game, might
- 18:17Speaker 1: mean one less possession, one less opportunity. So I thought
- 18:21Speaker 1: two things. I thought their third down non execution in
- 18:24Speaker 1: the first half was painful. And I thought the fact
- 18:28Speaker 1: that they didn't take advantage of the turnover they got
- 18:30Speaker 1: nothing out of it. They got great field position at
- 18:32Speaker 1: the forty six yard line or something that went backwards
- 18:35Speaker 1: and got nothing in punt the football. And the interception
- 18:38Speaker 1: in the first half that Joe Barrow had green Bay
- 18:41Speaker 1: got three points out of So, you know, in a
- 18:42Speaker 1: game that tied at the end of regulation, twenty two,
- 18:45Speaker 1: twenty two that the turnover situation the game. Even though
- 18:49Speaker 1: the turnovers were even, Green Bay came out plus three
- 18:53Speaker 1: in terms of points on those turnovers, and in a
- 18:55Speaker 1: game like that, that was big. But boy, you look
- 18:58Speaker 1: at Aaron Rodgers too. Dan Again, this guy's like drifting
- 19:01Speaker 1: to his left with his feet side by side, sideways,
- 19:05Speaker 1: like shuffling to his left and throws a rope back
- 19:07Speaker 1: to his right, you know, to cob in a in
- 19:10Speaker 1: a porthole, you know, a tight, tight window. It's like,
- 19:13Speaker 1: how the heck does a guy do that? Just shoulder
- 19:16Speaker 1: and arm strength, you know, and the accuracy and the
- 19:19Speaker 1: ability to throw it with some juice on it. He's
- 19:22Speaker 1: I think I have yet to see a quarterback that
- 19:25Speaker 1: has more arm talent than this guy. I really, this
- 19:28Speaker 1: is the third time I've seen him in person, and
- 19:31Speaker 1: every single time in at different stages of his career,
- 19:34Speaker 1: and every single time he'll make a wow are you
- 19:36Speaker 1: kidding me? Throw? Patrick Mahomes is the only guy that
- 19:40Speaker 1: comes close for the ability to throw with a wide
- 19:42Speaker 1: variety of angles, you know, side, arm, over the top, whatever,
- 19:45Speaker 1: and still deliver a good strike. And I still think
- 19:47Speaker 1: Rogers is even better. Yeah, I think at a comparable age,
- 19:52Speaker 1: Rogers and Mahomes were like, but this guy's now, he's
- 19:55Speaker 1: thirty nine years old, thirty seven, thirty seven, thirty seven
- 19:59Speaker 1: and doing at such an unbelievable level. And that's the thing,
- 20:02Speaker 1: you know. Zach Taylor mentioned it in the pregame show,
- 20:04Speaker 1: and I think it's worth repeating that not only is
- 20:07Speaker 1: this guy that type of physical talent, still, it's like
- 20:10Speaker 1: having an offensive coordinator in your huddle and at the
- 20:13Speaker 1: line of scrimmage, and Pratt was talking after the game.
- 20:17Speaker 1: He said, Man, I'm telling you, this guy came to
- 20:19Speaker 1: the line of scrimmage in total control, changing players left
- 20:22Speaker 1: and right. Whatever we got in he had an answer
- 20:24Speaker 1: to it. He had the answer to every every question
- 20:26Speaker 1: in the test. And you know, it's it's just when
- 20:29Speaker 1: you're playing with a guy like that, it just gives
- 20:32Speaker 1: you so much confidence. It really does. I mean, man,
- 20:35Speaker 1: he just he raises everybody else's boat, you know, in
- 20:39Speaker 1: terms of the level of performance, because you just feel
- 20:42Speaker 1: like you're unbeatable when you're playing with a guy like that.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Let's talk about the other quarterback, Joe Burrow. We found
- 20:47Speaker 1: out after the game he was taken to a local
- 20:49Speaker 1: hospital for a possible throat contusion. I've never heard of
- 20:53Speaker 1: that before. Bruised throat. Now, we happened to see him
- 20:56Speaker 1: walk out of the stadium as we were going into
- 20:58Speaker 1: the studio to record this podcast, and he looked okay.
- 21:01Speaker 1: I mean, he didn't appear to be in any sort
- 21:03Speaker 1: of excruciating pain. But that doesn't sound very pleasant. Yeah,
- 21:08Speaker 1: I mean, I've heard of fractured trachia. You know, how
- 21:12Speaker 1: does that must how must that feel? You know, I've
- 21:15Speaker 1: heard of a damaged Adam's apple, and you know, fractured
- 21:18Speaker 1: trachy and things like that. And I guess if he
- 21:20Speaker 1: got hit in the throat somehow by somebody's hand or whatever,
- 21:23Speaker 1: that you know, they know it's bruised. They just want
- 21:26Speaker 1: to see how badly and if there's any cracks or
- 21:28Speaker 1: anything else going on in there. So if you have
- 21:30Speaker 1: a you know, a fractured trachia or something, you know,
- 21:33Speaker 1: now it's tough to I mean, you're gonna be guttering.
- 21:36Speaker 1: You're gonna be uttering guttural noises, you know, for for
- 21:39Speaker 1: cadences and stuff. You know that that that might be
- 21:42Speaker 1: a little bit weird. But we're putting the cart way
- 21:44Speaker 1: before the horse. Hopefully it's it's nothing more than, you know,
- 21:47Speaker 1: make sure check all the boxes and make sure that
- 21:50Speaker 1: you know that that he's able to go. How did
- 21:53Speaker 1: you think he played? I think he played, you know, okay,
- 21:57Speaker 1: I mean he totally lost track of Campbell. And I
- 22:00Speaker 1: asked Zach, I said, was that a case where receiver
- 22:03Speaker 1: and quarterback round different pages? And he goes, I don't
- 22:05Speaker 1: really think so. I have to look at the tape
- 22:08Speaker 1: to make sure. But he said, you know, I think
- 22:10Speaker 1: he just lost track of the foundery, lost track of Campbell.
- 22:13Speaker 1: And that's the easiest interception Campbell's ever gonna have. There's
- 22:17Speaker 1: no question about that. But Zach was not expecting the
- 22:20Speaker 1: linebacker from the opposite side of the formation to drift,
- 22:24Speaker 1: you know, like he did, to the middle of the
- 22:25Speaker 1: football field like that, and that was obviously a huge play,
- 22:29Speaker 1: pivotal play. It seems strange in a game where a
- 22:33Speaker 1: receiver on the opposite team had two hundred and six
- 22:35Speaker 1: yards to single out somebody in the secondary for having
- 22:38Speaker 1: a great game. But chittabay O Wooje continues to show
- 22:42Speaker 1: what an excellent signing he was. No question, I mean,
- 22:45Speaker 1: he just he flashed you know he jumped off when
- 22:48Speaker 1: they watched the tape, he's going to jump off the
- 22:50Speaker 1: tape coverage. Tackling the interception was a great play. I mean,
- 22:55Speaker 1: he's got to write to that spot on the football
- 22:57Speaker 1: field as well. And he turned, he found the ball first,
- 23:00Speaker 1: and there was some you know, checking fighting going on
- 23:01Speaker 1: and all that, but he's he's in better position. He
- 23:04Speaker 1: ran the route better than the receiver did. So there's
- 23:06Speaker 1: no call on that. There's no flag on that. And
- 23:08Speaker 1: he made a great play. And again they didn't. There
- 23:11Speaker 1: was not complimentary football played there. A Woozia makes a
- 23:14Speaker 1: hell of a play, gives them the ball, you know,
- 23:16Speaker 1: at the forty six yard line, and they get nothing, zero,
- 23:19Speaker 1: not even a first down out of the darn thing.
- 23:21Speaker 1: So at that point, complimentary football was an issue. And
- 23:25Speaker 1: you know, you start the football game off, it takes
- 23:27Speaker 1: you till the end of the first quarter to score
- 23:29Speaker 1: seven points. Again, these these slow starts. The better team
- 23:33Speaker 1: you play against, the more you're gonna put yourself behind
- 23:36Speaker 1: the eight ball. If you don't come out of the gate.
- 23:38Speaker 1: You know, in a perfect world, you come out of
- 23:39Speaker 1: the gate strong. And then at the end of the
- 23:41Speaker 1: football game, you still have enough juice to be physical
- 23:44Speaker 1: and finish the thing, you know, with a flourish kind
- 23:46Speaker 1: of deal. That's when you're playing really good football and
- 23:50Speaker 1: they're having you know, frantic finishes and all that sort
- 23:53Speaker 1: of thing. But they're putting themselves behind the eight ball
- 23:55Speaker 1: too much with these slow starts. It's impossible to feel good.
- 23:59Speaker 1: It's a Bengals fan after you lose a game like that.
- 24:01Speaker 1: But I'm trying to remember my mindset going into the game.
- 24:04Speaker 1: I said that they need to go toe to toe
- 24:07Speaker 1: even if they don't win. They need to go toe
- 24:10Speaker 1: to toe with a team like Green Bay to show
- 24:12Speaker 1: that they are legit, that they can be in the
- 24:15Speaker 1: hunt for a playoff spot. They did that. It was
- 24:19Speaker 1: a game they should have won, though considering the things
- 24:21Speaker 1: that fell into their lab. Yeah, there's no doubt. And
- 24:23Speaker 1: when you look at the personnel, I'm telling you this
- 24:26Speaker 1: is a huge win for green Bay because they came
- 24:30Speaker 1: in limpen and gimpen. You know, they were like the
- 24:32Speaker 1: Johnson and Johnson bandage group, and they licked those wounds.
- 24:37Speaker 1: And I'm telling the offensive line, I think they're coach magnificently.
- 24:42Speaker 1: And then you still have to go out and play
- 24:43Speaker 1: and they were taking defensive linman on with short sets
- 24:46Speaker 1: and they were playing their butts off, and Aaron Rodgers,
- 24:49Speaker 1: you know, created an extended plays when there was some leakage.
- 24:53Speaker 1: I mean, he's great at that. But really, I thought
- 24:56Speaker 1: that offensive line played more than adequately. I thought they
- 25:01Speaker 1: showed that they all belonged to the National Football League.
- 25:04Speaker 1: And that's the thing is when your roster, your roster depth,
- 25:08Speaker 1: it's not like you fall off a cliff. Now, baktri
- 25:12Speaker 1: you know, as good a left tacklers in the game,
- 25:14Speaker 1: you're going to miss a guy like that. But when
- 25:16Speaker 1: you have guys that can you know, are more than
- 25:18Speaker 1: adequate replacements, you know, it's like and they even lost
- 25:22Speaker 1: the replacement to Baktiri and they're still out there operating efficiently.
- 25:26Speaker 1: When you have that kind of thing going on, you
- 25:28Speaker 1: got a damn good football team. And for them to
- 25:30Speaker 1: come in and I think they've got respect for the
- 25:33Speaker 1: Cincinnati Bengals, I think they might even have more respect
- 25:35Speaker 1: or at least as much respect when the game's over.
- 25:37Speaker 1: For them to come and travel and win that football game,
- 25:40Speaker 1: I think it's going to be big for them and
- 25:43Speaker 1: for the Bengals to be in the situation to win
- 25:45Speaker 1: it multiple times and not be able to get it done.
- 25:49Speaker 1: That one's going to be a tough one to get over.
- 25:51Speaker 1: You know, you talk about compartmentalize, amnesia, move on, easier
- 25:56Speaker 1: said than done. You know, this one, it's going to
- 25:59Speaker 1: be a mental and physical challenge to do. Because they
- 26:03Speaker 1: played a lot of minutes in a football game. Green
- 26:06Speaker 1: Bay feels a heck of a lot better physically now
- 26:08Speaker 1: because they won that game than the Bengals do after
- 26:10Speaker 1: losing a game like that that you could have and
- 26:12Speaker 1: should have won the football game. The run through the
- 26:15Speaker 1: NFC North ends next week. They played the Vikings, the Bears,
- 26:19Speaker 1: and the Packers. They've got one team left, the Lions,
- 26:21Speaker 1: who are winless after two point loss in Minnesota, and
- 26:25Speaker 1: you got to beat their Lions. But you know, the Lions,
- 26:28Speaker 1: they haven't won a football game, but they've been in
- 26:30Speaker 1: a few. You know, it's there's no gimmis in the
- 26:33Speaker 1: National Football League. And one thing about the Detroit Lions
- 26:36Speaker 1: when you watch tape on the Lions now, they come
- 26:39Speaker 1: to play physically. Their head coach is a psycho. Matt
- 26:43Speaker 1: Campbell is an absolute psycho. So he demands that so
- 26:47Speaker 1: you're gonna get that. I mean, when that game's over,
- 26:50Speaker 1: it's going to be oh man, when you're in the locker,
- 26:52Speaker 1: I remember that hit. Oh yeah, You're gonna have to
- 26:54Speaker 1: come out and be physical. And then that's going to
- 26:56Speaker 1: be the big challenge, you know, after losing the way
- 26:59Speaker 1: you lost to the Green Bay Packers, Detroit lost obviously
- 27:02Speaker 1: a game they could have won, maybe should have won
- 27:04Speaker 1: as well. Who's going to be able to bounce back
- 27:07Speaker 1: the quickest and the best? That might be a big
- 27:10Speaker 1: factor in who puts a W in the left hand
- 27:13Speaker 1: column Next week, there's a quick reminder to join Lapping
- 27:16Speaker 1: Me for the Bengals game Plan Show on Wednesday night

- 27:50Speaker 1: fun facts with Riley Reef from Parkston, South Dakota, in
- 27:53Speaker 1: the southeast corner of the Mount Rushmore. State population about
- 27:57Speaker 1: fifteen hundred. Tell us a little bit about growing up
- 27:59Speaker 1: in Parks and what you love about home. Just the people,
- 28:03Speaker 1: great Midwestern people, down to earth. Man. I couldn't imagine
- 28:08Speaker 1: growing up anywhere else. I'm still this day. I got
- 28:10Speaker 1: a big following in my hometown, and I owe a
- 28:14Speaker 1: lot to a lot of people in that town. And
- 28:17Speaker 1: you know, it's a small town, like you said, a
- 28:18Speaker 1: lot of people. They know a lot about you, but
- 28:21Speaker 1: they're also that's also a good thing. I mean, people
- 28:23Speaker 1: take care of one and one another, and uh, yeah,
- 28:26Speaker 1: I'm real Uh take a lot of pride in coming
- 28:30Speaker 1: from Parkson. Did you grow up with a lot of
- 28:32Speaker 1: family nearby. Yeah, my mom was one of nineteen so
- 28:37Speaker 1: family reunions were big, you know, stuff like that. And
- 28:41Speaker 1: family's real big to me and see them quite often.
- 28:46Speaker 1: So I know you love hunting and fishing. Do you
- 28:48Speaker 1: have an all time best hunting and fishing story? You know,
- 28:52Speaker 1: there's a lot of them that come to mind, just
- 28:55Speaker 1: being out with my dad, you know, my brothers, good friends.
- 29:01Speaker 1: Some of the funnest memories I have were before high
- 29:03Speaker 1: school football games, going out dove hunting. That was that
- 29:05Speaker 1: was always fun. And now that I, um, you know,
- 29:09Speaker 1: I didn't have any money when I was younger to
- 29:10Speaker 1: have have good hunting dogs. We had dogs, but they
- 29:14Speaker 1: weren't really hunting dogs. But uh, Spain, will take my
- 29:17Speaker 1: dogs out now and watch some more because it is
- 29:19Speaker 1: really a treat. We're doing fun facts with Riley Reef.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Your dad was a wrestling coach and you were an
- 29:24Speaker 1: all time great high school wrestler in South Dakota one
- 29:28Speaker 1: twenty one and one with three state titles, and it
- 29:31Speaker 1: surely would have been four if not for an injury
- 29:33Speaker 1: or senior year. What did that experience and that success
- 29:37Speaker 1: do for you? I I credit all my where I'm
- 29:41Speaker 1: at now to wrestling. Uh you know, it's tough, physical,
- 29:45Speaker 1: I had great coaches, great teammates, and uh you know
- 29:48Speaker 1: it was it was. It wasn't so much so physical,
- 29:51Speaker 1: it was the mental aspect of being a wrestler. And
- 29:54Speaker 1: I still think that helps me today and it's caring
- 29:57Speaker 1: me to where I'm at and uh, you know, just
- 30:00Speaker 1: the grind, you know, never stop attitude. Parkston is not
- 30:04Speaker 1: far from the border of Nebraska. Minnesota and Iowa. You
- 30:07Speaker 1: choose to be you chose to become a Hawkeye. What
- 30:09Speaker 1: was the best part of your college experience. My teammates, um,
- 30:13Speaker 1: the coaches, winning games. We had a good group of guys,
- 30:16Speaker 1: and uh, you know, I had a lot of fun
- 30:19Speaker 1: at Iowa and I won't change at one bit. I mean,
- 30:21Speaker 1: I'd do that all over in Harben. We learned from
- 30:24Speaker 1: your former Iowa teammate Mike Daniels that you started out
- 30:27Speaker 1: on the defensive line before they move you to the
- 30:29Speaker 1: oh line. How'd you feel about it at the time.
- 30:32Speaker 1: I wasn't too happy. I when I first arrived, I
- 30:36Speaker 1: got the number seventy seven. It was in my locker,
- 30:38Speaker 1: and I was kind of mad because I was like,
- 30:41Speaker 1: that's not a defensive lineman number. Now it's one of
- 30:44Speaker 1: my favorite numbers, but you know it was obviously it
- 30:48Speaker 1: worked out for the best, and uh, you know, they've
- 30:50Speaker 1: seen something in me and the rest is history. I
- 30:54Speaker 1: I used to think offensive linemen were slow, fat and lazy,
- 30:57Speaker 1: and now I think, I mean, being around him, they're
- 30:59Speaker 1: the best on the team. Man. They're fun, they're you know,
- 31:01Speaker 1: we're tightening it and uh yeah, yeah, there's no position
- 31:05Speaker 1: group like it. No position group that's more close knit
- 31:08Speaker 1: than the O line. It's unique fraternity. What is it
- 31:11Speaker 1: about you guys together that click so much. Yeah, you
- 31:16Speaker 1: just get a bunch of guys that that depend on
- 31:20Speaker 1: each other. And uh, you know, if if one guy
- 31:23Speaker 1: has a really good game and one guy has a
- 31:25Speaker 1: really bad game, it's I mean, it's your your judge
- 31:27Speaker 1: is won. And uh, you know that's just it's a
- 31:31Speaker 1: it's a bond, right. Um, I don't I don't really
- 31:34Speaker 1: know how to how to phrase it, but uh, it's
- 31:37Speaker 1: pretty special in a part of an offensive line room,
- 31:39Speaker 1: that's for sure. We're doing fun facts with Riley Reef.
- 31:42Speaker 1: So they gave you the number seventy seven as a
- 31:44Speaker 1: dead ringer that you were going to be an O lineman,
- 31:46Speaker 1: and it obviously did work out. You became a first
- 31:49Speaker 1: round draft pick. Describe your draft experience. You know, I
- 31:53Speaker 1: I left school a year early. Um, you know, trained
- 31:58Speaker 1: at Iowa with coach Doyle and combine, you know all
- 32:02Speaker 1: that stuff. It was. It was a lot um but um,
- 32:07Speaker 1: you know, I was very thankful for the Detroit Lions
- 32:09Speaker 1: organization for drafting me and the Ford family had a
- 32:12Speaker 1: great five years there. And then Ford in Minnesota and
- 32:15Speaker 1: now now I'm here, and uh, you know, I'm awfully
- 32:19Speaker 1: honored to be in this league. I mean, it's it's
- 32:21Speaker 1: hard to to get in this league and it's hard
- 32:23Speaker 1: to stay in this league. So you know, heads off
- 32:26Speaker 1: to a lot of good teammates, coaches and uh, you
- 32:29Speaker 1: know family for support during those four years in Minnesota
- 32:32Speaker 1: or head coaches. Mike Zammer, he recently called you one
- 32:35Speaker 1: of his favorite guys of all time and said he
- 32:38Speaker 1: was willing to share the codes to his hunting lodge
- 32:41Speaker 1: and even opened up the fridge if he wanted to
- 32:43Speaker 1: drink his beer. Describe that relationship. I love Zim Zim.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Uh you know, he's tough. He's a wrestler, you know,
- 32:52Speaker 1: at heart, and uh, you know, he wanted the best
- 32:54Speaker 1: out of us and every day. You know, he might
- 32:57Speaker 1: have been hard on us, but you know he knew
- 33:00Speaker 1: what had to be done. Sim's a great coach. Everybody
- 33:02Speaker 1: knows that. And I really appreciate him. You know, we
- 33:06Speaker 1: had some good years there and uh, you know, yeah,
- 33:10Speaker 1: I got a lot of respect for him. During training camp,
- 33:14Speaker 1: offensive line coach Frank Pollock asked Anthony Munio's and Dave
- 33:17Speaker 1: Lapham to address the offensive labman after practice one day,
- 33:20Speaker 1: and you genuinely seemed almost awe struck. Was that the case? Absolutely? Um,
- 33:27Speaker 1: you know, any guys that have played before me, I know,
- 33:29Speaker 1: I know what they did. They set a foundation. Uh
- 33:32Speaker 1: you know, it goes back the you know, the x's
- 33:35Speaker 1: and knows might change a little bit, but the technique
- 33:37Speaker 1: and stuff. I mean, I mean, it's it's evolving, but
- 33:40Speaker 1: they they set the foundation on how offensive linemen you know,
- 33:43Speaker 1: how they work, how they do this stuff, and uh,
- 33:46Speaker 1: you know, to pick their brain or listen to them talk.
- 33:49Speaker 1: I mean, it's it's it's awesome. I love talking to
- 33:51Speaker 1: any offensive linemen. You know, they get it. They know
- 33:54Speaker 1: they know how bad it sucks sometimes. So you know,
- 33:57Speaker 1: you just appreciate when guys take time out of their data,
- 33:59Speaker 1: you know, of us. A few pointers, all right, a
- 34:01Speaker 1: few wild card questions for Riley Reeve. Who is your
- 34:05Speaker 1: all time favorite athlete in any sport? I'll probably say
- 34:10Speaker 1: Tim Brown from the Oakland Raiders. I remember him, I
- 34:13Speaker 1: had I got one of his cards when I was younger,
- 34:14Speaker 1: and uh, you know it come to I liked him
- 34:18Speaker 1: at the time, but I come to respect him even
- 34:20Speaker 1: more once you get older and you're in this professional
- 34:22Speaker 1: you know, probably him. That one definitely caught me off guard.
- 34:26Speaker 1: I thought you might go with Dan Gable. I like
- 34:28Speaker 1: Dan Dan too. Is there anything you like to splurge on?
- 34:35Speaker 1: Probably hunting and fishing stuff. You mentioned your hunting dogs.
- 34:39Speaker 1: Are they expensive? No, I mean yeah they are. The
- 34:44Speaker 1: prices are going up on dogs nowadays. But yeah, I
- 34:46Speaker 1: mean they're they're just uh, they're bread locally around South
- 34:51Speaker 1: Dakota and just find a good pedigree. If you could
- 34:54Speaker 1: meet anybody in history, athlete, actor, statesman, whoever it might be,
- 34:59Speaker 1: who would person by Teddy Roosevelt? You know you'd like
- 35:04Speaker 1: to hunt fish? And uh, yeah, I think he's an
- 35:06Speaker 1: interesting character. Maybe him. All right, you are the first
- 35:09Speaker 1: person to ever go with Teddy Roosevelt to answer that question.
- 35:12Speaker 1: I love it. All right. Last thing, and now that
- 35:15Speaker 1: you mentioned the Tim Brown thing, this all makes sense
- 35:17Speaker 1: because I read that as a kid you were a
- 35:19Speaker 1: Raiders fan because of the Mailman. Can you explain, Yeah, Well,
- 35:24Speaker 1: my dad was a Raiders fan too, and we'd always
- 35:27Speaker 1: get the My mom was a Vikings fan, so we'd
- 35:29Speaker 1: get the Vikings Vikings game. But then we'd usually get
- 35:32Speaker 1: a West Coast game, and you know, sometimes we catch
- 35:37Speaker 1: Raiders on and that's how I became a Raiders fan.
- 35:40Speaker 1: And the mailman was always harpening on me about the
- 35:42Speaker 1: Raiders too. But yeah, um, I just like the like
- 35:46Speaker 1: the atmosphere that I've seen on TV. And I've never
- 35:48Speaker 1: been to a game that I played there, but uh,
- 35:51Speaker 1: you know, I just like the you know, the fans
- 35:54Speaker 1: and they were tough, they're they're physical and stuff like that.
- 35:57Speaker 1: I appreciated that you'd fit in in the black hole.
- 36:01Speaker 1: I don't know about that. You don't have to put
- 36:05Speaker 1: on all the makeup. You just have to be rowdy.
- 36:06Speaker 1: In any case, I really appreciate your time. Best of
- 36:09Speaker 1: luck the rest of this year. It's great to have
- 36:11Speaker 1: you on the team. We appreciate it. Thank you. That's
