- 0:00Alright, let's run it. Bound Bound Banger management
- 0:04Fantasy Hockey podcast. Woo woo.
- 0:09I was gonna do a funny one to to mess with you but I forgot.
- 0:12OHS, I'm so used to just being normal.
- 0:16This is That's OK. That's OK.
- 0:19Kevin is still not here y'all. But Morgan Riley's healthy, so
- 0:24he is now lonely in that basement.
- 0:25Oh my goodness, I'm actually editing that out.
- 0:31Don't censor me. Goodness, shame, shame.
- 0:40OK, Coolio, not Coolio, but Coolio because I don't know what
- 0:44else to say. Welcome in to Bangor Management,
- 0:47the fantasy Hockey podcast with your host Jake, former Kevin and
- 0:52me. And Josh, I'm sorry, let me wait
- 0:58in Tobago management, the fantasy hockey podcast with your
- 1:02favorite host Jake, Josh and Kevin, who is with us in spirit
- 1:06again, he's fine. I don't know why we keep making
- 1:10these jokes, but the more. You say he's fine, the more it
- 1:13seems like he's not funny. Absolutely fine.
- 1:16You been feeding him regularly. We actually have that that out.
- 1:21That's crazy. That's so fine.
- 1:25Madness. Maybe we will because listeners
- 1:29already know that we're unhinged, but yeah, yeah.
- 1:32So yeah, he will be back for next week's episode, the news
- 1:37and mailbag episode. So he will be returning.
- 1:40All is, All is well. All is well today, though.
- 1:43Very. Sad.
- 1:44This is credits of like, like the end credits of those Marvel
- 1:47movies where they tell you which characters are gonna be
- 1:49returning. So it's like Kevin will be
- 1:50returning. Kevin is Thanos he's collecting
- 1:54people on his IR like they're Infinity stones and he was just
- 1:57too depressed to come suppose today Yeah exactly.
- 2:00That's right. That's really what happened.
- 2:03So it's sad that he's missing this one because especially as a
- 2:06trio, it's like so great to record this, but we're
- 2:09definitely gonna be reading his selections for him.
- 2:11It's our week 4 by low sell high episode.
- 2:14Always a great time here. So, you know, keep, keep at it
- 2:20with us. So I've the way that that we, we
- 2:22really kind of, I just want to like hammer this home is that
- 2:25these are players that we're recommending to buy low on and
- 2:28sell high on self-explanatory, but there won't necessarily be
- 2:31an immediate turnaround. So starting next week, we're
- 2:34going to be reviewing how our players performed on a two week
- 2:39rolling basis. So for instance, my buy low last
- 2:41week was Hagel. Hagel still sucks.
- 2:43OK, I haven't in my 2 main leagues, but I'm big on that
- 2:47turn around. I think it's going to happen, so
- 2:51yeah. I mean, yeah, you gotta give it,
- 2:52you gotta give it some time. Like if sometimes we'll
- 2:54recommend a bio cell high and then we record the next episode
- 2:57and the guys played like one or two games from now to then.
- 2:59So exactly, it's hard to crown ourselves a winner or loser in
- 3:02terms of, you know, such a small period of time.
- 3:04So I think 2 weeks is a good amount of time to kind of check
- 3:06in on how we're doing with our previous ones.
- 3:08So we'll start. Then reassess every two weeks
- 3:10because after two weeks you'll buy low is still buy lowing then
- 3:14maybe it's just not. Necessarily, but I mean, that'll
- 3:17be what we talk about, right? Let's say hey go still isn't
- 3:19doing well by next week, then we can discuss will be like, is he
- 3:22still a buy low? Was this a miss and all that
- 3:25kind of fun stuff. So we'll discuss that on a on a
- 3:27two week basis. Yep, and it's gonna add another
- 3:30element to it to make it more useful for the listener.
- 3:32So yeah, stay tuned all year we're gonna be with you bringing
- 3:36your content lost on Spotify, Apple podcast, where ever you
- 3:40get your podcast, rate us five stars and the link to all the
- 3:44socials and the link tree in the podcast description.
- 3:47Come join the. Discord Join us on Discord.
- 3:50I never get to say it. He is always you and Kevin Pump
- 3:58in the discord, but I'm there too.
- 4:06That was that was actually crazy.
- 4:10I was like, did I say it wrongly?
- 4:13Kevin usually loves correcting me after I give my explanations
- 4:16and I was like. No, I just wanted to say it.
- 4:20Yeah, yeah. So, so listen to Josh and join
- 4:24our Discord. It's a great place to be.
- 4:28Very fun, engaging with everyone who's been in there so far.
- 4:31So yeah, we're just, we want to grow that community and there's
- 4:35a lot of fun discussions going on over there.
- 4:38Trade advice starts at questions, people to buy low,
- 4:42sell high on. I guess that's the same thing as
- 4:43trade advice, but you'll see it's a great place to be and
- 4:45it's gonna really help you win your fantasy leagues.
- 4:47I'm pretty sure that most of our listeners said that they're atop
- 4:51their leagues 3 weeks in, so that's.
- 4:54As they should be, otherwise we disown you.
- 5:03Just kidding. Alright, let's start with some.
- 5:06JKJK Yeah, alright. But you all better win.
- 5:09Yeah, let's start with Joshua's. Bye Lo.
- 5:14All right, my buy low for this week is Evan Bouchard of the
- 5:19Edmonton Oilers. Bouchard I mean this is a big
- 5:21topic that a lot of people are talking about, so I felt it was
- 5:24important to mention. I definitely do believe in the
- 5:26bounce back. He went pointless in the first
- 5:28six games of the season before going back-to-back games with
- 5:30the power play assist. Not that he didn't blow up to,
- 5:33you know, immediately bring everyone back into not being
- 5:36worried about him, but still, it's nice to get on the board.
- 5:38But Edmonton as a whole has been off to a very slow start, going
- 5:414-3 and one in their first eight games.
- 5:43And I mean, this is kind of stuff like this happens when you
- 5:46make the finals 2 years in a row, right?
- 5:48And you've got that Stanley Cup fatigue, minus the Stanley Cups,
- 5:51unfortunately, but. Cupless Stanley Cup fatigue.
- 5:55Exactly, but it makes sense to go off to slow start.
- 5:58They have the 6th best power play in the league even Despite
- 6:01that slow start and Bouchard is a key part of it.
- 6:04This isn't one of those power plays that the defenseman never
- 6:06touches the puck. This is a blue shirt is a big
- 6:08big part of it. I'd say he's the third most
- 6:10important guy on there after McDavid and Draisaitl.
- 6:12Obviously. Another part of it is Hyman is
- 6:15expected to be back November 1st that was recently announced.
- 6:17So I expect their power play and even strength production to get
- 6:20even better. Bouchard shots and blocks are
- 6:23even higher than last year and his shots are in goal are elite
- 6:25from a defenseman of 3.4 so far this year.
- 6:28So it's not like he's just giving you straight gross.
- 6:30He's giving you signs of life. He's going to bounce back in a
- 6:32big way, so if you can get him now, now it's the best time to
- 6:35try. Yeah, and and honestly, like I
- 6:39I, I drive to dry saddle in the first round and like he's been
- 6:43good, but he hasn't been like elite dry somewhat.
- 6:46Yeah, expect, you know, and maybe Harman is just a lot more
- 6:49important to this team than we whether we thought I mean.
- 6:53I think it's necessarily just timing.
- 6:54I think that's a nice thing to think that will be a boost, but
- 6:57I don't think that's it. I think sometimes get off to a
- 7:00slow start. I don't think this is new for
- 7:01Edmonton. I had him drive Seattle last
- 7:03year and they like I said, there is some seek there and playing
- 7:07nonstop for almost three years straight.
- 7:09So that definitely is part of it.
- 7:11It's also it's not just fatigue, right?
- 7:13It's kind of the mindset of you just came from playing the most
- 7:17intense high level, you know, the Stanley Cup playoffs, like
- 7:21the intensity was there, the stakes were so high and then you
- 7:25have to come back to playing game one of the regular season.
- 7:28It's kind of it's hard to kind of get back into that mindset,
- 7:31right as a mental thing. So it'll take some a bit of time
- 7:33to get back into. But I have 0 doubt that
- 7:35Bouchard, I mean, he was drafted as probably the fourth highest
- 7:38defencemen in most leagues is probably McCarty, Hughes and
- 7:41then Warenski, Bouchard, something like that.
- 7:44So he's gonna be that value. And if the person who has him is
- 7:48panicking, that's a great time to jump on that.
- 7:50Some targets that I'm looking at is that you can use to get
- 7:53Bouchard, looking at Adam Fox, Thomas Harley, Charlie McAvoy,
- 7:57Morgan Riley. Obviously these are all guys who
- 7:59are ranked a lot lower than Bouchard, but they're all off to
- 8:02pretty hot starts. I highly doubt anyone's going to
- 8:05win for one of those with you. Obviously that would be ideal,
- 8:07but but if you can give that defenseman plus a little bit
- 8:11more to get Bouchard, I think it's super worth it and I think
- 8:13it's very possible to get it done.
- 8:16This is gonna add a tremendous amount of value to your team.
- 8:19The only one on this list that you mentioned was gonna score as
- 8:21many points is Fox, and even at that I think Bouchard's a much
- 8:26better bet to score more points. Yeah, right.
- 8:28And Fox, but he's the only one who he doesn't shoot as much.
- 8:30As non-existent exactly so you can clearly tell that there's
- 8:34some positive regression due for Bouchard because he has been
- 8:37shooting as you mentioned quite a bit actually and these rules
- 8:40are just not going great. And you know, like to to add the
- 8:43Hyman thing into this is like when Hyman's net front like he's
- 8:46getting in that goal, he's face and he's like, there's a much
- 8:49higher chance that the Bush bomb succeeds if they have someone
- 8:53screening like look, Tomashek, like I had high hopes when I
- 8:57drafted him, like her picked him up like right at the start of
- 9:00the season, dropped them right away.
- 9:01I mean it's not the same thing now says that's the hymen of it
- 9:07all is a small part of the equation.
- 9:08Edmonton starts slow that this happened last year.
- 9:11Like I was trying to buy low and dry subtly ended up getting like
- 9:13the most goals in the league so. Yeah.
- 9:18Bouchard has absolutely no competition for that power
- 9:23player 1. Wallman got the big contract.
- 9:25Ignore that he's a defensive defenseman.
- 9:27Nurse, no chance. Echo, no chance.
- 9:29It's like Bouchard is gonna be a huge part of the offence for
- 9:33Edmonton and I think this is a fantastic, fantastic buy low
- 9:37even. Like probably you're gonna have
- 9:41to give the players you mentioned plus, but I think that
- 9:44that others don't really know how bad Edmonton usually starts.
- 9:48So to be able to pull something like that off, I don't even
- 9:52think the plus has to be too. Much that's the plus has to be a
- 9:55lot lower than it would have to be if Bouchard was starting off
- 9:57as high as you would expect him to.
- 9:59So I think just the gap is a lot smaller right now in a lot of
- 10:02people Bouchard owners minds. So you can make it happen at a
- 10:05much cheaper price. For sure.
- 10:07I mean, like, I'm just thinking like Bouchard was drafted the
- 10:11beginning of the third round in our league.
- 10:12You don't need to give anything near that.
- 10:15Like no. Exactly addition, you know, so I
- 10:19really, really like it. All right, let's move on.
- 10:21I'm gonna read Kevin's choice for his bi lo, all right?
- 10:25I'll do his sell high. Wonderful alright of the Tampa
- 10:30Bay Lightning we have a goaltender Andrei Vasilevsky, so
- 10:34I'm gonna be speaking about this from Kevin's perspective because
- 10:36he. Likes to do the voice.
- 10:39If I yes, you want to like try to sound like Kevin.
- 10:49Yeah, that's what great. That was great.
- 10:52No, you're good. You're good.
- 10:55It's not what you think it sounds like.
- 10:57No, no, no, I was just doing his, like his.
- 11:00I know, alright. He let me see if I could bring
- 11:04some like Kevin flair into this. He doesn't have like a very
- 11:07memorable voice though. That's the only problem.
- 11:10Alright, let me see if I told you that no, this is not going
- 11:16to work. Just go normal.
- 11:18Alright, if I told you this top three drafted goalie, a
- 11:22perennial fantasy superstar. Kind of nice.
- 11:26Nice for the Kevin. Would be on a tap a team that
- 11:30has only won one of their opening seven games and that
- 11:34Vasilevsky would be winless. Oh my God, what a long sentence.
- 11:37I know six starts. I don't think you would believe
- 11:40me before the season. Wow, OK, that was a no wonder he
- 11:44could do the number one. Yeah, exactly.
- 11:47Speaking in that like with no punctuation.
- 11:49Lungs of a champ. Yeah, honestly he currently has
- 11:52a 3.41 goals against average 8.885 save percentage.
- 11:56These are horrible numbers for Vasilevsky.
- 11:58Very true Kevin with the climate.
- 12:02What the climate the goalie is OK with the climate of the
- 12:04goalie position for four with the climate policy position is
- 12:09in for fantasy right now. OK kinda cool.
- 12:12With all the injuries and under performances, the chance to
- 12:16scoop up Vass like this doesn't come around very often.
- 12:19True. With how open the division is
- 12:22right now, we all think Tapa is the best team here and should
- 12:25probably end up first. This Tampa team is poised for a
- 12:28bounce back. We've seen Kucherov and Hagel.
- 12:30Yep, start very slow and could even missed games.
- 12:34Once the teams are as clicking, it'll be a natural sequence of
- 12:37events for Vasilevsky to go back to being elite.
- 12:40Guys like this are not always available, but right now,
- 12:43winless after almost three weeks into the season, there's an
- 12:46opportunity and there's very few names I wouldn't trade for
- 12:49Vasilevsky right now. I want to nickname right now.
- 12:54Yeah, well, that's Leski right now, no.
- 12:59OK cool. I'm not at all worried about his
- 13:02goalie stats or the team's potential to win.
- 13:04The only goalie I would for sure want above him is Hella Buck.
- 13:08Fair enough there Kevork. Good one for one targets.
- 13:12Logan Thompson, Stuart Skinner, UC Saros Eager Cistercian for
- 13:16Vasilevsky, plus interest. Yeah, I mean, I agree with
- 13:21everything he's saying. I will say I'm not sure at this
- 13:25point, I don't know if I'm still sold on Tampa is number one in
- 13:28the division. I think they should easily be
- 13:30way better than they're doing right now.
- 13:31So that I don't disagree with, but sounds like it's gonna cook
- 13:35for the have. So it'll be hard to dismantle
- 13:37us. But all that to say, no, this is
- 13:39obviously crazy. Like Maslowski is ranked the
- 13:41second best goalie in every league before the season started
- 13:45and he didn't just stop, you know, forget how to play goalie,
- 13:49right? And it's not like the team in
- 13:50front of him got drastically where it's like dealing with any
- 13:52big injuries. It's not anything like that.
- 13:54Cooper still a great coach. They're going to be fine.
- 13:55He's going to bounce back. And like Evan said, this is a
- 13:58very, very rare opportunity to grab a goalie like this.
- 14:03So I like his targets. I mean, I don't think anyone's
- 14:06gonna do these one for once. I think you're obviously gonna
- 14:09have to throw in a bit more. I think honestly, you could
- 14:12target him with some better goalies.
- 14:14Like I have Darcy Kemper. I sent an offer of Kemper Plus
- 14:16for Vasilevsky and got rejected. But still, you know, it was
- 14:19worth the shot. I think there's like Chesterton
- 14:23for Vasilevsky Plus I think is really solid because you're
- 14:26seeing starting put up unreal performances and the Rangers
- 14:29team in front of him is just not helping him out at all.
- 14:31Obviously things are gonna be really good this year.
- 14:33Manchester is gonna be good this year, but vessels he's gonna be
- 14:35better. Yeah.
- 14:36So I don't think you need like obviously if you can pull it off
- 14:39with one of these goalies he listed, it's dream scenario.
- 14:42I just think there's no one in the right bar whose mind who's
- 14:44taking Stuart Skinner or Staros for Vasilevsky.
- 14:47So you obviously have to add in a big plus or aim with choose
- 14:52your top goalie and who you drafted, let's say 3-4 rounds
- 14:55past Vasilevsky and use him to try and get Vasilevsky.
- 14:59Obviously it feels bad because you're hopefully your top
- 15:01goalies performing pretty well and basketball even garbage, but
- 15:04like, that's how you that's how you pull off a trade like this.
- 15:07You're gonna still have to pay up to get someone this elite.
- 15:09No one's trading away their second round pick or sometimes
- 15:13even first round pick for pennies after three weeks, but
- 15:16they might be willing to trade him for less than they would
- 15:18have before the season started with how bad he's been.
- 15:22I totally concur on this one. The thing with his targets, the
- 15:28issue is that they were definitely drafted way way way
- 15:32way later. Except for historical.
- 15:34Of course, Exactly. So that's really like the
- 15:37problem is that you're now in a position where the guy who took
- 15:42Vasilevsky is probably, you know, sacrifice taking a great
- 15:48forward. Yeah.
- 15:50And the way that I would actually look at this is that
- 15:53although I totally agree with Kevin's analysis here, if you're
- 15:56gonna try to buy Vasilevsky, I would consider giving valuable
- 16:00forward instead. That's what I would think.
- 16:03It's like, yes, like that shifts the buyer's identity on their
- 16:07team. We're generally 0G guys, but I
- 16:11think that you can give someone who's like a very reasonable,
- 16:17that overperforming guide to get Vasilevsky and it wouldn't be
- 16:20like totally far off. Like, would you give, let's say
- 16:25you needed the goaltending help, OK.
- 16:27Yeah. Like just just in general, would
- 16:29you give Mika's about Nejad for Vasilevsky?
- 16:33Easily every single day of the week.
- 16:34And I think that that could maybe get done.
- 16:36Yeah. I don't think that's so crazy,
- 16:38right? Yeah.
- 16:40Would you give Eric Sinek for Vasilevsky?
- 16:43Yeah, yeah. There you go.
- 16:45You know what I'm saying? Like.
- 16:46This is 100%. Huge element to your team and
- 16:48Vasilevsky will like. If you're buying Vasilevsky
- 16:51anyways, I think that the way to look at it is that.
- 16:54You're not. Clocking in for goalies.
- 16:56Yeah, I mean, look at look at Kevin's like targets toss in
- 16:59give the Skinner plus Zibanejad for Vasilevsky.
- 17:02There you go. You know, like that's that could
- 17:05possibly get done. I don't even know if you need to
- 17:06give dinner. That's what I'm saying though.
- 17:08You know what? I.
- 17:08Mean no ones gonna trade away Vasilevsky and not get a goalie
- 17:11in return. True, true.
- 17:13I just even. And also you don't want to take
- 17:14on an extra goal you necessarily obviously everyone's teams in a
- 17:16different spot, but usually I would assume that it would be a
- 17:19goalie for goalie, but you'd. Have to pass or nice even, like
- 17:23I don't know. I mean, I guess do you think
- 17:25Skinner over Spencer, just out of curiosity?
- 17:28Um, that's really on the receiver of the offers, how they
- 17:31view people, you know, like I think I prefer Skinner dispenser
- 17:34night, but Spencer night might have more trade value right now
- 17:36with how well he's been. Doing there you go.
- 17:38So I think that can be a part of it.
- 17:40You know, like you can really give like the the crux of the
- 17:45trade being a good forward, like the ones that we just mentioned.
- 17:48You know what I mean? Alex Tuck.
- 17:49Alex fucks another one who I feel like I mean, he's a good
- 17:52player. He's gonna get you the short
- 17:53hand points to and what not, but.
- 17:55No brainer when a guy like Vasilevsky's available give
- 17:58these guys off. Easily.
- 17:59What I would do is give a forward who's overperforming,
- 18:02plus my second best goalie, who let's say it's like, you know,
- 18:05you have like a Logan Thompson and a, I don't know, like Jeremy
- 18:09Swagman. I would keep Sure Thompson.
- 18:11I'd give Swamin and Erickson back if this is an option and
- 18:16try to get back Vasilevski. Don't think that's so crazy.
- 18:19It's not that crazy, but if the person counters with the Tom
- 18:22Thompson and Ericsson neck from asking, I'm still doing that.
- 18:24Honestly, yeah, fair, fair. Because Vasilevsky is gonna is
- 18:28gonna be able to win you goalie categories pretty much all year.
- 18:33But he's pretty much like he's the only guy who's in the
- 18:35conversation of like hella buck, you know, like, like for the
- 18:38past few years. So we can't forget that.
- 18:40Obviously he's off to a rough start, but he is that that good.
- 18:43So I would give a lot to be able to get him.
- 18:45And I think there's a I think there's a really good
- 18:48opportunity here. Let's move on to your Bilo.
- 18:51Yes, my bi lo is and you know the intro I'm about to give to
- 18:57him. I know I've done this before and
- 19:00it's because he's been a bi lo in the past and if you look at
- 19:03how he ended up performing last year, you're very happy owning
- 19:07this player on this team. It is the Matchbox 20 lead.
- 19:13Let's see how far we've come. Smooth featuring Santana Robert
- 19:17Thomas OK, let us dive into this now that my incredible intro is
- 19:25over all right at the time of this recording, Saint Louis
- 19:28effing sucks. OK, they're running 12th lowest
- 19:31in the league for goals four. I was very high on them coming
- 19:35into the season and we spoke about this in our previous
- 19:38streamers episode. Realistically, like they just
- 19:41love doing this. I don't know why it's super
- 19:44annoying, but hey, they start slow and then they end up
- 19:46amazing. Including the year they won the
- 19:48cup. Since the COVID year, Comics has
- 19:50exceeded a point per game in three of his last Four Seasons
- 19:54for the Blues. As bad as things are looking and
- 19:56the goals scored column right now, it's even worse than goals
- 19:58against. I think similar to the Ducks and
- 20:02other teams that want to win games, they're not a shut down
- 20:05team. They're gonna find a way to win
- 20:07and it's gonna be by scoring goals.
- 20:09It's not going to be by shutting down teams defensively.
- 20:12OK, so this offence runs through Thomas.
- 20:15He's easily their best offensive player.
- 20:18And I anticipate a bounce back very, very soon.
- 20:21He's never had a lead peripheral categories other than face offs.
- 20:24I wouldn't expect that to change.
- 20:25But this feels like a really good time to buy low on a point
- 20:28per game player at his cheapest value.
- 20:30That is gonna be all season. So some of the names that I'm
- 20:34about to mention may seem quite low, especially compared to
- 20:37where you drafted Thomas, but especially because he doesn't
- 20:41have the Bangor category floor. I think you could trade them for
- 20:44Thomas and it's reasonable that it may get done.
- 20:47Nick Schmaltz, Elias Lindholm, Roope Hintz and Leo Carlson.
- 20:52No, I like this a lot. A lot.
- 20:54Obviously Thomas, like the thing that kind of holds them back is
- 20:58that he's not the best at back catch other than faceoff wins,
- 21:01right? He doesn't shoot much, doesn't
- 21:02hit, doesn't block, but in terms of the points and power play
- 21:05points, but especially the points, he's easily over a point
- 21:07per game and he's not doing anywhere near that right now.
- 21:10So definitely, definitely I like your targets.
- 21:15Nick Schmaltz would be the ultimate sell high buy low like
- 21:17that would be an unreal flip. Elias Lindholm too, absolutely
- 21:21Leo Carlson 2 Rubens is the interesting one because he's
- 21:24really over performing right now.
- 21:26So he's definitely a sell high. But I just wonder if you can aim
- 21:29higher than Thomas with hints. But you know what, I think if
- 21:32you sent him to Thomas, that gets done.
- 21:34And if you just, you know, tell me right now, which one would I
- 21:37rather have on my team rest this season I'm taking Thomas.
- 21:39So all that being said, I do think the other three are like
- 21:42way bigger wins for you, but also less likely to necessarily
- 21:45get done. But but I like all these targets
- 21:48and I like Thomas a lot as a target.
- 21:49Saint Louis is not going to be this bad the whole year.
- 21:51My only thing with Saint Louis at first is that they have that
- 21:55split power play, right? So obviously whichever play
- 21:57Thomas is on is the 1A, but that takes away a lot of opportunity
- 22:00when it's so split. But with how bad they've been
- 22:03doing, Monty has been shaking up the lines a lot and he really
- 22:06loaded up on that power play 1. So if that starts clicking, then
- 22:10that can be really huge for them and huge for Tomas.
- 22:12So all that being said, I fully agree on the buy low and I love
- 22:15the the targets you put. Yeah, and I'm putting my money
- 22:18where my mouth is by keeping Cam Fowler around, which is awful
- 22:25because he has been horrible, but the whole Saint Louis team
- 22:28has been horrible. So my way of looking at this is
- 22:30that I'm really hoping and I'm confident that there's going to
- 22:36be a big bounce back for the Blues.
- 22:38Very not gonna be this bad. They might not be as good as you
- 22:41thought they were gonna be, but like, they're not gonna be this
- 22:43bad. Well, yeah, if you could buy low
- 22:46on Thomas right now, I think it's a good, good time.
- 22:49Do you agree with the I know you spoke about hints and schmaltz,
- 22:54Lindholm and Carlson. I feel like they're like less
- 22:57sell high ish than the others because the others have been
- 23:00performing really well. But I'm.
- 23:01Still, I mean, Lindholm definitely like Dinos come back
- 23:03to Earth a little bit, but he started off super hot and
- 23:05Carlson's been really good and I think that.
- 23:08Done. Maybe a?
- 23:09Little. It depends on the league owner
- 23:12obviously and like you might have thrown a little bit more,
- 23:14but I think those are huge ones if you can get those done.
- 23:17Yeah, absolutely. OK, let's begin with your cell
- 23:20high. Which are not really.
- 23:22So high I mentioned it. Before, yeah.
- 23:25That's right. My cell high is Spencer Knight.
- 23:29We actually spoke about night on our mailbag episode, but he is
- 23:32the clearest sell high goalie I've seen in a long time.
- 23:35He's got three wins in six starts and his averaging 1.97
- 23:38goals against average, .937 save percentage and 29.5 saves per
- 23:42game. Chicago is currently 9th in the
- 23:44league standings, but they will finish bottom 7 in the league
- 23:47again this year. I don't feel I almost put bottom
- 23:49five. I was like I'll cover my cover
- 23:51my butt a little bit, put bottom 7 just so it's not as not as
- 23:56easier to be right. But honestly I'm expecting
- 23:59bottom 5. They're off to a really hot
- 24:01start and have some exciting young names providing some
- 24:03flashy value to start the season.
- 24:04But their decor is still awful and young players are very
- 24:07inconsistent over the course of a long season.
- 24:09Chicago is not a good team. I know they're starting off fun,
- 24:12but let me just tell you, they're not good.
- 24:13Spencer Night, a great goalie, but this is not his year.
- 24:16And I know that's crazy with how well he's doing, but it's just
- 24:18it's not gonna maintain like this.
- 24:19This is a clear, clear, clear cell high.
- 24:22The more he plays well, the better of a cell high he is.
- 24:25Don't convince yourself that this is gonna happen all season
- 24:27because it's not. Here are some targets I'm
- 24:29looking at. Linus Omark.
- 24:31They've been he's been really awful so far.
- 24:33So I think this can absolutely get done.
- 24:35Andre Vasilevsky obviously would have to do night plus, but
- 24:38Vasilevsky's been really bad. Jacob Markstrom, I think New
- 24:41Jersey is going to be really good this year and Markstrom is
- 24:43injured, but he should be back within a week or two.
- 24:45So I like this as an opportunity to to try and get that done.
- 24:49Mackenzie Blackwood on that same vein of injured goalies, there's
- 24:52a lot of, you know, questions with Blackwood because
- 24:53Wedgewood's been so solid. But there's no doubt in my mind
- 24:56that at the very least block what's going to be the 1A and
- 24:58Colorado could potentially win the Presidents Trophy this year.
- 25:00So these are all targets I think could get done.
- 25:02The hardest one will be Vasilevsky like that you'll have
- 25:05to add. But the other three there is a
- 25:06chance where you can just straight up send it one for one
- 25:08and the owner accepts it. So I think this is a really,
- 25:11really good opportunity. And you have Spencer night on
- 25:13your team. I would be doing everything I
- 25:15can to try and sell high on him. Yeah, I mean, well said.
- 25:18He's just been so good. Like this is ridiculous.
- 25:21Yeah, it's crazy. I mean, it's it's it's not
- 25:25sustainable for the best goalie on the best team, right?
- 25:29Yeah. So let's already just pretend
- 25:32that this is a decent year for Chicago and they're gonna be
- 25:36fighting for a playoff spot. And, you know, Knight, who was
- 25:39supposed to have been elite, was drafted, made no sense by
- 25:42Florida super high, and then they signed off.
- 25:44But that's a conversation for another time.
- 25:46And then like all that, everything goes in his favor.
- 25:50It's still a sell high, right? Yeah.
- 25:53And I I think that like, you know, you're you're putting
- 25:56targets here that are realistic to get done.
- 25:59Vasilevsky's gonna be plus, as you mentioned.
- 26:01But it's like all of them I'm easily confident having
- 26:05overnight. There's not many starting NHL
- 26:08goalies that I would want on my night over, you know what I
- 26:12mean? Like exactly.
- 26:13There's probably the, I mean like, like at this point, like a
- 26:18rather night over Montana, because who knows what's gonna
- 26:20happen with Dobesh. Yeah, I take night over any of
- 26:23or most of the tandem guys. But in terms of, like you said,
- 26:26like a guy who's getting the starting like workload like
- 26:29Knight is, there's very few that I would not take overnight.
- 26:32Exactly. And you can aim like way higher
- 26:36for those guys now than the ones that you mentioned that you will
- 26:40be in a few weeks when the. Blackhawks slow down.
- 26:43And the Blackhawks will slow down.
- 26:45Not, you know, this. This is not even trashing on
- 26:48them by any means. It's just one.
- 26:49The roster is just not there for them to be in a team with
- 26:52playoff contender and they're just performing so, so well.
- 26:55And especially it runs through night.
- 26:58So to be able to keep up numbers like a 937 under two goals
- 27:03against average 29.5 saves per game, like that's clearly,
- 27:07clearly a streak. So yeah, dynasty, keep them
- 27:11absolutely keeper league. You probably picked them up and
- 27:14he wasn't drafted. Keep him for sure the draft
- 27:17where you're dropping a new team every like Oh my God, selling
- 27:20yeah, absolutely. All right, so it's.
- 27:22Having me do Kevins cell high. So we've got Adrian Kempe of the
- 27:28LA Kings. Last year he averaged .9 points
- 27:31per game, 2.9 shots, 1.2 hits. This season if you open his game
- 27:34log right now he's basically a top ten player in fantasy with
- 27:371.4 points per game. Two points per game over the
- 27:39last week and he's averaging over three shots and hits a
- 27:42game. This is an astronomical fantasy
- 27:45performance as a late and we love Kempe, but these numbers
- 27:47are too good and the power play has been on fire.
- 27:49The biggest discrepancy is the hits.
- 27:51He's arguably averaging two hits more than his normal average
- 27:54which is not sustainable. The thing with campaign is that
- 27:56we know he's a great fantasy asset.
- 27:58Last year he was a buy low for a few episodes as well, but we're
- 28:00at the point where we called him underrated for fantasy for so
- 28:02long that now he does have some name value to him.
- 28:04I think you can flip him in two ways.
- 28:06One in a package to get a top two round pick or two in a deal
- 28:10where you get 2 great players. Some guys I would target to sell
- 28:13him for. Kucherov is the main first round
- 28:15target who hasn't been a stud that you can realistically get.
- 28:18I also like Kaprizov or Rantanen.
- 28:20You won't get these guys one for one, but these guys are usually
- 28:22unattainable. But with how Kempe is playing,
- 28:24nothing is out of the question. I also like doing a trade for
- 28:27Panarin Plus in a 2 for two where you get some upgrades.
- 28:29Stutzel and Jarvis same thing, Tage plus as well.
- 28:33So this is all makes a lot of sense what Kevin's saying here
- 28:37with Kempe, he's performing out of his mind I would say.
- 28:42I think we all kind of agree. You generally don't want to be
- 28:44the one receiving more players in a trade.
- 28:47So I would definitely prefer to do this A+, especially this
- 28:50early. So I definitely prefer to do
- 28:51Tempe Plus for one of those top guys.
- 28:52And with how he's been playing, yeah, you can go for one of
- 28:54those top guys. Thing is, Tempe already was
- 28:56probably drafted in what, round four in a lot of leagues, maybe
- 28:59even round three if in some leagues, probably around 4,
- 29:02let's say. So go around 4 guy who's
- 29:05performing, like over performing is a very reasonable piece to
- 29:09get around one guy who's underperforming.
- 29:12So I think it's definitely possible.
- 29:13Obviously like depends what you throw in with him, but but yeah,
- 29:17that would be a great, great, great sell high.
- 29:19Yeah, I, I, I love this. I think it's fantastic.
- 29:22He's been so, so good. It's also a contract here.
- 29:26Like he's clearly playing for it, you know?
- 29:28I mean, I really think that adds to it.
- 29:30He's just, he's playing big minutes, doing amazing things.
- 29:34I think that beyond his and Kevin's right to be ambitious
- 29:40with it, you absolutely should be.
- 29:42But I would even settle for like a little bit lower and be at
- 29:47ease with it because of how insane Kempe, right?
- 29:50Like, would you rather hypothetically Kempe or Kyle
- 29:59Conner? Connor.
- 30:01No, she not a first round pick though right?
- 30:03Like that's the difference. Yeah.
- 30:05And I feel like like that's like the one thing with his with his
- 30:09targets is that these are first round picks.
- 30:11So as you mentioned, you package them, that's great.
- 30:14But I even think that you can you can still aim a little bit
- 30:17lower and be happy with the return.
- 30:19Kemp is an awesome player though.
- 30:20He's never breaks fantasy. That's what he's doing right now
- 30:24and that's why we expect it to slow down.
- 30:26But he's he's absolutely somebody who I'd love to have on
- 30:31my team. So you know, he was drafted in
- 30:34the fourth round in our league of record to give you like a few
- 30:37names in in the third round, like Mitch Marner, right?
- 30:41Like God I actually think you could realistically even flip
- 30:43one for one vibes. That would be.
- 30:45Much, which is super cool, you know, I mean, I drafted Philip
- 30:51Forsberg. At this point, I think I just
- 30:52rather compete than Forsberg. So don't do that.
- 30:54Yeah, but how? About maybe that's what that's
- 30:58what Kevin was saying in his in his second part, right?
- 31:00If you do want to do that one for two, you can maybe get
- 31:02Forsberg plus for Kempe. Yeah, exactly.
- 31:04One Crazy Horse got drafted higher, yeah.
- 31:07Exactly. Last question I would have with
- 31:08this one. Would you rather Bouchard or
- 31:10campaign rest this season? I think I would probably take, I
- 31:16mean can be going to get more points.
- 31:18Bush is gonna get more power play points, Bush is gonna get
- 31:20more shots and blocks, companies gonna get more hits.
- 31:24So but I think from a defenseman spot it's more valuable.
- 31:27So I would take Bouchard. There you go, and I.
- 31:29Think you get Bouchard plus? Yes, absolutely.
- 31:32And I love that target. That's actually a really, really
- 31:35good one. Yeah, exactly.
- 31:37So that could be a really fun. Yeah, look how crossing
- 31:40together. Exactly, exactly.
- 31:42As you know, we finish each other sandwiches all the time.
- 31:45Exactly. Alright, Jackie, take us home.
- 31:48Yes, my cell high is Matthew Schaefer of the New York
- 31:53Islanders. Here's the good news for Shaver
- 31:56so far this season, he's gone off to a super hot start.
- 31:59Literally tied the record for longest point streak of any
- 32:01defenseman ever to start as an Angel career.
- 32:04Incredibly high draft pedigree to a team that will absolutely
- 32:08give him big minutes all year if they want to try and win games.
- 32:12And last but not least, he's. Already getting power play, 127
- 32:16minutes and they. Got There you go.
- 32:18That's like incredible for a defenseman, you know, rookie
- 32:23defenseman, that's insane. Here's the bad news for
- 32:26Schaefer. Everything that I just said.
- 32:30So let's get into this. Rookies are always, always
- 32:33streaky. It always happens.
- 32:35And it's even more of like an elaborate, you know, thing with
- 32:40defensemen. Yeah, people may see his
- 32:42production and think that it could be sustainable all year
- 32:45because he was drafted first overall and because last year
- 32:48Hudson absolutely broke out and won the Calder.
- 32:51The difference 1 Montreal last year had a better team than the
- 32:54Islanders this year. And two, Hudson was 20 years old
- 32:57and Shavers 18. This is a massive difference in
- 33:00hockey terms and one that's definitely gonna prove to be
- 33:03very impactful throughout the year.
- 33:05Not to mention that D'Angelo still might get a few looks on
- 33:07power play one this year, especially if they start losing
- 33:10a few games, which they will, and they want Shafer to develop
- 33:14more defensively. Obviously Shafer is the future
- 33:17of the Islanders team and I have little doubt that he's going to
- 33:20be considered a top demon in the league in a few years.
- 33:22But at the time of this recording, he's it like
- 33:25basically a point per game and that just that's just not gonna
- 33:30happen. He opened like after the six
- 33:32game point streak. I mean, obviously that's going
- 33:34to affect the averages, but like it's it's there's no way.
- 33:38So this is far from anything remotely sustainable.
- 33:40And if he finishes the season with 50 points in 82 games as a
- 33:43rookie, that's 18 years old. That's a massive accomplishment,
- 33:47but it's a far cry from basically the 80 game 80 point
- 33:50pace that he's currently on. If you own Shafer, especially in
- 33:53a bangers league where I expect little to no production in
- 33:56peripheral categories all year, I would be trading him as fast
- 33:59as I can. Lastly, and this is especially
- 34:02true for Rudolph leagues, if you're in a keeper or dynasty
- 34:06league, definitely keep him similar to Spencer Night because
- 34:09next year and the year after that he's going to be awesome.
- 34:11But yeah, if your league draft every year, sell him ASAP.
- 34:14Now some good targets to sell him. 4.
- 34:17Michael Sergachev, Victor Hedman, Mackenzie Weeger.
- 34:21Only in bangers leagues. Just disclaimer and interesting.
- 34:25Very curious about your thoughts on this Moritz cider now you
- 34:30listen to and are a host on this podcast.
- 34:32You have cider. You're not accepting that, but
- 34:35like. Yeah, of course, but no.
- 34:36Yeah. So like, first of all, I love
- 34:38everything you said here. This is so this is such a good
- 34:41one. This is really, really good.
- 34:42One other thing that I like about selling high on Schaefer,
- 34:45like the kind of thing that you can sell the person you're
- 34:48trading with on is the fact that he is a rookie, right?
- 34:52He has no historicals to compare to.
- 34:55And he was the first overall pick.
- 34:56So he has all that hype around him.
- 34:58But it's like when you have a guy like that, there's always
- 35:00the question mark of he could be anything, you know, he could be
- 35:02the next kill Makar, he could be whatever, right?
- 35:04So he. Could even be a boat.
- 35:06Yeah, exactly. Could be keeping a boat.
- 35:08So that's it. Why don't you treat him for the
- 35:10guaranteed boat? And you know, you saw the other
- 35:11person on how he could even be a vote, right?
- 35:14So yeah. And I, I love that the targets
- 35:16you put I love like Sergachev and Hedman, cause like you
- 35:18didn't put any ridiculous targets, you know, like those
- 35:20are really, really good targets, but they're really good players.
- 35:23They're gonna be sick for you. But it's not like you put Macar,
- 35:26Quinn, Hughes, even though he was starting off.
- 35:27So that's obviously not gonna happen.
- 35:29But you put reasonable ones, Um, weaker for sure weaker got
- 35:32bumped off power play one. But in a bangers league, I'd
- 35:34still take him over Schaefer and yeah, no, I love the Sergachev
- 35:381. He started slow.
- 35:38He's popping off now, so the chance to do that might be
- 35:41slipping away, but but it's still good to try headmen.
- 35:44All of Tampa started off. So like we said, siders an
- 35:46interesting one. I think that he started off
- 35:49really slow and you know what, there might be some cider owners
- 35:52that'll do it. I would never do it.
- 35:53Obviously this is banger leagues we're talking about, but and
- 35:56then non banger league. I mean, I would still I would
- 35:58then I would still do it. I would still prefer slider to
- 36:01Schaefer, the non bangers because I think Detroit has one
- 36:03of the top five power plays in the league.
- 36:05But and I don't trust the Islanders offence a long term,
- 36:09but in a bangers league, it'll be harder to swing this.
- 36:12But yeah, I like it as a target. If you can pull it off, you
- 36:14know, it's always good to have one kind of shoot for the stars
- 36:16target because at least in this case, he is performing really
- 36:20poorly. So it's possible.
- 36:21And yeah, no, Schaefer, there's no way he's going to keep this
- 36:24up. Like you said, there's no real
- 36:25perhaps there. So I will say it's not like he's
- 36:28not going to become a guy that you want to drop at any point in
- 36:31the season, Like he's gonna be solid all year.
- 36:34It's just he's not gonna be this good and no matter what.
- 36:37For where you drafted him, I'm assuming no one reached on him
- 36:39too high. So for where you drafted him,
- 36:41congratulations. You got a sick pick for where
- 36:43you drafted him, right? Yeah.
- 36:45But if you could turn that into, you know, it's always about
- 36:47getting as much value as possible.
- 36:48If you could sell high on him, now, now is the time to do it.
- 36:50So definitely agree with everything you said.
- 36:53Yeah. So at the time of this
- 36:55recording, right, seven points in eight games is just 72 point
- 36:58pace. That's there.
- 37:00There's no way. Like it's just not happening.
- 37:02Yeah, it's also the Islanders, right?
- 37:04Like it's not like he's on offensive juggernaut of a team.
- 37:07Yes, exactly. And and you know, the other
- 37:10thing I didn't even mention is but the last year he played 17
- 37:15games in the OHL, I think he had some injury issues and he got 22
- 37:17points. And you know, like clearly they
- 37:21see that he can be a generational defenseman and he
- 37:25can I mean, he looks amazing on the ice, but it's really, really
- 37:29difficult to do anything above 50 points as a defenseman, as
- 37:34like a stud defenseman in the NHL.
- 37:36So that's why I wanted to put these realistic targets.
- 37:38You're not you're not getting the top 2.
- 37:40Even Bouchard who started super slow.
- 37:43I feel like the Bouchard or the Werenski owner, deli owner, you
- 37:46know, but these guys are outside of the top five and I sider know
- 37:50for bangers leagues. But the point aspect of it all,
- 37:54I feel like it's, it's just a bit more sustainable, you know,
- 37:57Bouchard do. Do you think anyone would
- 37:59consider Schaefer plus for Bouchard?
- 38:02I mean, obviously depends what the plus is.
- 38:04I think there's there's a world where you can pull it off for
- 38:06sure. Yeah, I I love cider.
- 38:09Like I would love to have cider on my team.
- 38:11And because he started so slow and even in the I mean, you've
- 38:14been complaining about this a lot that hits the hits just not.
- 38:17There, the hits actually are coming.
- 38:19It's more the blocks at this point that aren't there.
- 38:21Yeah, but the hits are. The hits are coming.
- 38:23And he's shooting more, which is nice too.
- 38:24It's really the points in the blocks aren't there.
- 38:26But it's gonna turn around for sliders, so if you can pull this
- 38:30off it would be great. So that's it.
- 38:33I, I mean, look, I, I, I picked him up in my points league,
- 38:36which is awesome for me cause yeah, it's a keeper league.
- 38:40So that's crazy Points league. Like, yeah.
- 38:42I can't believe he wasn't drafted in a keeper league,
- 38:44that's wild. Yeah, yeah, I know.
- 38:45It's because nobody. Nobody expected this for sure.
- 38:49Exactly. But it's happening.
- 38:51Like it is just gonna fall off and then look, I'm gonna keep
- 38:54him if I can, unless I'm like a contender and I can flip him to
- 38:57someone for value. But at the end of the day, like
- 39:00for a bangers league especially, I have no interest in owning lot
- 39:03of interest in selling him if I. Can yes.
