Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: The MATTERCOPA kids. They're now safe, they're in the hands
- 0:02Speaker 1: of ordering A Tamadiki, but they'll now face a lengthy
- 0:04Speaker 1: court and reintegration process could take years. So what do
- 0:08Speaker 1: we do in the meantime? Jane cele Child Matters CEO
- 0:11Speaker 1: with Me Live Jane, Good morning.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Good morning, Ryan.
- 0:14Speaker 1: You reckon it's time to leave this story alone.
- 0:17Speaker 2: I absolutely do. I think it's understandable why there's been
- 0:19Speaker 2: such a big story. But these children are not public property.
- 0:23Speaker 2: We do not have to know everything about them and
- 0:25Speaker 2: about their lives or we need to know is that
- 0:27Speaker 2: they're safe and that they're will and it's really a
- 0:29Speaker 2: question of social responsibility.
- 0:31Speaker 1: A lot of people on the text machine that are
- 0:33Speaker 1: fired up about this. This morning I mentioned we were
- 0:35Speaker 1: going to talk Ryan. It's healthy to debate and ask
- 0:37Speaker 1: questions for people to understand and find the truth. That
- 0:40Speaker 1: is the tenor of the text. What do you reckon?
- 0:43Speaker 2: No? I disagree. I think there's not an interest for
- 0:45Speaker 2: these children. They have got a lengthy reintegration into their
- 0:49Speaker 2: new reality and time to build their new lives that
- 0:53Speaker 2: will be years in the making, and so for them
- 0:56Speaker 2: to be public property or for that to be part
- 0:58Speaker 2: of a public story is not how you for those children,
- 1:01Speaker 2: and I don't think that we have a right to
- 1:03Speaker 2: that In this age of reality TV. I think sometimes
- 1:05Speaker 2: the boundaries get blurred, but we have to do what's
- 1:08Speaker 2: in the best interest of these children.
- 1:10Speaker 1: What's worse because people are talking about it and are
- 1:12Speaker 1: going to talk about it and will be interested in it.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Is it worse for the media to do that or
- 1:17Speaker 1: for social media to fill the void?
- 1:20Speaker 2: Well? I don't thinking stop social media, can you? I
- 1:23Speaker 2: think responsible reporting around us and I think we've sent
- 1:25Speaker 2: some good reporting is very important, but again we don't
- 1:29Speaker 2: need to know the details. It's not in the children's
- 1:31Speaker 2: interests after what they've been through. I don't think as
- 1:34Speaker 2: much to us that we've given some space and some
- 1:36Speaker 2: privacy from there on, all.
