- 0:00Welcome to Pomoja Podcast, a ministry of Life
- 0:03of Christ International. Join us weekly for uplifting
- 0:07encouragement, true stories, and conversations
- 0:11centered around faith, family, and purpose. I'm
- 0:15your host, Barry Mwamba, and today I'm bringing
- 0:18you a heartfelt and honest story, a marriage
- 0:22journey that many of you may find echoes of in
- 0:25your own lives. So settle in. As we walk through
- 0:29the years, the challenges and the triumphs of
- 0:32a relationship that has truly stood the test
- 0:35of time. Marriage is one of life's greatest callings
- 0:42and one of the covenants the enemy fears the
- 0:45most. That's why the devil works tirelessly to
- 0:48diminish and destroy it, twisting what God designed
- 0:52to reflect his love and unity. In our premiere
- 0:55season of Pomoja Podcasts, we began exploring
- 0:58this sacred covenant through a personal story,
- 1:02my own, shaped by my father's wisdom, and refined
- 1:06through 18 years of lessons, grace, and endurance.
- 1:10Our first episode, The House in the Middle of
- 1:13the Forest, focused on finding the right partner
- 1:16and discovering that beyond every outward quality
- 1:20or charm, The true foundation of marriage is
- 1:23being led by God through the Holy Spirit. Today,
- 1:28in this second episode, we'll go deeper. We'll
- 1:32uncover the mystery of the house, why the windows
- 1:35were sealed, why the door was locked, and why
- 1:39the air inside remained warm. Each of these details
- 1:43carries a revelation about covenant, commitment,
- 1:47and divine connection. The very ingredients that
- 1:51keep a marriage not just alive, but anchored.
- 1:57When Trouble Starts It didn't take long for the
- 2:02honeymoon to fade. Our first real fight came
- 2:06only a few weeks after the wedding, and I still
- 2:09remember it vividly. We were shouting. I threw
- 2:12my wedding ring across the room, yelling, You
- 2:16lied to me! The truth is, I wasn't truly angry
- 2:20at my wife. I was confronting the reality of
- 2:23two imperfect people learning to share one life.
- 2:26The time of romance was over. The time of revelation
- 2:30had begun. Flaws began to surface. Personalities
- 2:34clashed. Habits we once ignored suddenly felt
- 2:38unbearable. It was as if my wife was saying,
- 2:42campaign time is over. I already won you. and
- 2:45now you can't go anywhere. In that moment, I
- 2:49felt trapped, like I was in a deep hole, a prison
- 2:53with no way out. I honestly can't remember what
- 2:56the argument was about, but I can still recall
- 3:00the tone, the body language, the words, none
- 3:04of which were loving or respectful. And I remember
- 3:07thinking, if this is marriage, I'll seek a divorce
- 3:12the first chance I get. Thank God I picked that
- 3:15ring back up later that night. And thank God
- 3:18for our Godparents, a pastoral couple who stood
- 3:22with us before and after our wedding. They didn't
- 3:25just teach us about marriage, they walked with
- 3:28us through it. The Exercise That Changed Everything
- 3:34During that first conflict, our Godparents gave
- 3:39us a simple but powerful exercise. Write down
- 3:42the things you hate, and the things you love
- 3:44about your spouse. So we sat down, each with
- 3:48a piece of paper, and when we started reading
- 3:50them aloud, something shifted. The anger broke.
- 3:54Smiles returned. We were reminded that the things
- 3:57uniting us far outweighed the things dividing
- 4:01us. That exercise planted a seed, one of forgiveness,
- 4:05growth, and maturity. I'll never forget what
- 4:08my godfather told me afterward. Do you think
- 4:12you're the first husband to throw his ring away?
- 4:14Even pastors have done it, and 30 years later,
- 4:18they're still married to the same wife. At the
- 4:21time, I probably thought, that won't be me. But
- 4:25here I am, 18 years later, still married to the
- 4:28same woman, sharing a story of God's faithfulness
- 4:32through perseverance. My mother used to say anger
- 4:44is a visitor so our it comes and it goes Don't
- 4:48make decisions or speak while you're angry because
- 4:51when anger leaves you'll regret what stays God
- 4:55knows how many times we said things we should
- 4:58never have said while angry harsh words that
- 5:01wounded deeply broke trust and Opened the door
- 5:04for the enemy to enter yet deep inside. We both
- 5:08knew We were better than that. We knew that no
- 5:11matter how painful things got, our marriage was
- 5:15worth fighting for. So we refused to give up.
- 5:19But God, hallelujah. But God, one day he visited
- 5:23my heart. He pulled me out of the tomb I had
- 5:26buried myself in. He picked me up, changed my
- 5:30heart, and restored the love I thought I had
- 5:34lost. He gave me a new heart, humble. tender,
- 5:38filled with the Holy Spirit. Since then, I've
- 5:41learned to discipline my tongue, to speak life
- 5:44and peace instead of anger and destruction. When
- 5:49the anger finally left, we realized something
- 5:52profound. What united us was far greater than
- 5:55what divided us. That became our first real lesson
- 5:59in commitment. Not the kind you feel, but the
- 6:02kind you choose. The human tendency. Human nature
- 6:10has a strange habit. We magnify the flaws of
- 6:14others while minimizing our own. We focus on
- 6:18the 20 % that divides us, forgetting the 80 %
- 6:22that unites us. Love is not blind. It's gracious.
- 6:26It sees imperfection and chooses to stay anyway.
- 6:31I've seen many marriages fail because people
- 6:34chase that missing 20%. Only to discover that
- 6:39the new person also carries the 80 % they tried
- 6:42to escape. Don't abandon what's whole because
- 6:46of what's missing. Nurture, communicate, grow
- 6:49through weaknesses. If you want a clean house
- 6:52and your spouse struggles with that, don't fight.
- 6:55Find understanding. Divide responsibilities.
- 7:00work together. You cannot destroy a home over
- 7:03what divides you, especially when there's so
- 7:07much more that unites you. The Field of Two Souls
- 7:13Marriage is a field, a place where two different
- 7:18souls must learn to cultivate one life together.
- 7:22Finding common ground is the soil of harmony.
- 7:25but that soil must be watered with humility,
- 7:29love, and prayer. These common grounds are earned
- 7:32through tears, forgiveness, and the guidance
- 7:35of the Holy Spirit, because the truth is, compromise
- 7:39feels like loss until you realize it's actually
- 7:42gain. Matthew 19 verses 4 to 6. Have you not
- 7:47read that He who made them at the beginning made
- 7:50them male and female, and said, For this reason
- 7:54a man shall leave his father and mother, and
- 7:57be joined to his wife, and the two shall become
- 8:00one flesh? So then they are no longer two, but
- 8:04one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together,
- 8:09let no man separate. Marriage, as Jesus said,
- 8:13was never meant to be broken, even in moments
- 8:16of betrayal. Forgiveness is still God's first
- 8:20language. When sin entered the world, God did
- 8:23not abandon us. He found common ground through
- 8:27blood. Forgiveness. He established reconciliation
- 8:31through the cross and sent the Holy Spirit to
- 8:34empower us to remain faithful. Marriage mirrors
- 8:38that same divine pattern. When something breaks,
- 8:43God's model is not escape, it's restoration.
- 8:47It's a living example of how heaven meets earth,
- 8:50where mercy triumphs over mistakes, where grace
- 8:54rebuilds what pride tears down, and where forgiveness
- 8:58becomes the fragrance of true love. That's why
- 9:02in the parable of the house, the windows are
- 9:05sealed. to guard against intrusion, the door
- 9:09is locked, to preserve trust and the warm air
- 9:13remains, symbolizing the constant presence of
- 9:17the Holy Spirit who keeps love alive, even when
- 9:21the fire seems dim. Remember, marriage is not
- 9:26built by perfect people. but by persistent love
- 9:29under God's covering. If your home feels cold,
- 9:33reopen communication. If your windows are fogged
- 9:36with misunderstanding, wipe them with humility.
- 9:38And if your heart feels distant, lock your door
- 9:41again, not to shut each other out, but to shut
- 9:44the world away until love is rekindled inside.
- 9:50Next time on Pamoja Podcast, we will explore
- 9:53the enemies of marriage, inner and outer. We'll
- 9:56uncover how unseen forces, attitudes, and external
- 10:00influences work to divide what God has joined
- 10:03together and how the Spirit of God equips us
- 10:06to stand united in faith for love that endures
- 10:10all seasons. Thank you for listening to Pamoja
