- Lucas: And welcome back to Learn Swedish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 80! Lucas: I know! Can you believe it? Eighty episodes of Swedish. Luna: It's crazy. And I feel like I can actually get by now. Well, a little. Lucas: That's exactly the goal. Today we're going to a place you'll probably visit: the post office. Luna: Oh, good. I've been meaning to send a postcard home. Lucas: Perfect. So let's start with: Jag vill skicka ett brev. Luna: Jag vill skicka ett brev. Lucas: Exactly. It means 'I want to send a letter.' Jag vill — I want, skicka — send, ett brev — a letter. Luna: So if I want to send a postcard, could I say Jag vill skicka ett vykort? Lucas: Yes! Vykort is postcard. So, Jag vill skicka ett vykort. Same structure. Luna: Nice. Jag vill skicka ett vykort. Lucas: Now, to actually mail it, you need a stamp. In Swedish: Jag behöver ett frimärke. Luna: Jag behöver ett frimärke. I need a stamp. Lucas: Right. Ett frimärke — a stamp. It's an ett-word. Luna: So if I need two stamps: Jag behöver två frimärken. Lucas: Exactly. Plural: frimärken. Luna: Okay, I think I can handle that. Lucas: Then the postal worker might ask: Vart ska brevet? Where is the letter going? Luna: Vart ska brevet? Lucas: Yes. Vart means 'where to'. So you could answer: Till England, or Till USA. Luna: Till Sverige? That's 'to Sweden'. Lucas: Perfect. So: Vart ska brevet? — Till Sverige. Luna: Simple. What if I'm sending a package? Lucas: Good question. For a package, you might be asked: Hur mycket väger paketet? How much does the package weigh? Luna: Hur mycket väger paketet? Lucas: Väger means weighs. Paketet is the package. Luna: So I'd need to know the weight. Could I say: Jag vet inte? I don't know. Lucas: Absolutely. Or you can put it on the scale and say: Ett kilo. One kilo. Luna: Hur mycket väger paketet? Ett kilo. Lucas: Exactly. And if you're sending it somewhere specific: Jag vill skicka paketet till Sverige. Luna: Jag vill skicka paketet till Sverige. Lucas: Yes. That's useful if you're abroad. Luna: I feel like I could actually do this now. Let me try a little scene. Lucas: Go for it. I'll be the postal worker. Luna: Hej! Jag vill skicka ett brev. Lucas: Hej! Vart ska brevet? Luna: Till USA. Jag behöver ett frimärke. Lucas: Here you go. That's one stamp. Luna: Tack! How did I do? Lucas: You were perfect. Really natural. Luna: Aww, thanks. This is fun. Lucas: It really is.
