- 0:46native, real estate investor, former founder
- 0:49of Lady Jet Set, and the owner -editor of The
- 0:52Scout Guide, Jupiter, and Palm Beach Gardens.
- 0:54Known for connecting people and supporting local
- 0:57businesses, Bethany has turned challenges into
- 0:59opportunities through resilience and reinvention.
- 1:02Please welcome Bethany to the show. I'm so happy
- 1:05for you that you're here. Thank you for having
- 1:07me. This is such an honor. I'm so glad you're
- 1:11here. You are the queen of... reinventing, innovating,
- 1:15just like getting things done in the most, what
- 1:21seems to be to me a flawless way. But let's talk
- 1:25about that. You started a company years ago called
- 1:28Lady Jet Set, which kind of like rent the runway,
- 1:31right? Where you were doing clothing, couture.
- 1:34And that evolved to... real estate. I don't know
- 1:40how that was correlated. And then it's just out,
- 1:42so like, I want to know the story, how A went
- 1:46to B to C. Yeah, I love that. Thank you for having
- 1:49me. So I did grow up here in Jupiter, Palm Beach
- 1:52Gardens, but my passion has always been design,
- 1:55fashion. I've always been a lover of... people
- 1:59and relationships and pretty things. And I decided
- 2:02early on, I wanted to create a business that
- 2:04I felt like it should exist for other women.
- 2:07And so I created Lady Jet Set, which is high
- 2:09-end rental where you could rent it, but we would
- 2:11deliver it to destination. So in 2017, that was
- 2:16my first entrepreneurial experience in how do
- 2:19you start a company? And I just dove in headfirst.
- 2:23And basically I found out early on The best way
- 2:26to create a company is think about what you wish
- 2:29existed and just go after it. Don't let your
- 2:32fears get in the way. And you will learn along
- 2:34the way. So for three years, you know, blood,
- 2:37sweat, and tears into creating a new company.
- 2:41And then COVID hits. And I thought, oh my gosh,
- 2:44I just created my dream company, like fashion.
- 2:47All I did was pretty dresses and travel. And
- 2:50I thought, this is it. This is my dream company.
- 2:54But I learned in those three years of creating
- 2:57a company, how much logistics go into, you know,
- 3:01you can't just have a good idea. It has to have
- 3:04execution. It has to be profitable. And so. After
- 3:08that was kind of taken away from me and COVID
- 3:10and some personal issues with a divorce and all
- 3:13that, I realized, you know, creating a company,
- 3:17it can't just be your dream and it can't just
- 3:19be a good idea. It really has to have execution
- 3:22and profitability. So I decided what would be
- 3:27the most profitable decision to make moving forward
- 3:31with financial situation that I have. And everything
- 3:35that I read, and my greatest advice is there's
- 3:39a podcast or a book for everything that you don't
- 3:41know. Right. And I remember somebody said to
- 3:43me, you have no idea how to do business. And
- 3:46I thought. I can't believe you just spoke that
- 3:52over me. And second of all, well, you're kind
- 3:55of right, but also why can't I, why can't I learn
- 3:58business? There's a book or a podcast for everything.
- 4:00So I was like, I'm going to learn business. And
- 4:03I realized that the most profitable at the time
- 4:06was real estate. So I'm like, you know what?
- 4:08I'm going to dive into some real estate flips.
- 4:10It wasn't my passion at the time. Back to what
- 4:13my most passionate thing is, design and people
- 4:16and connections and relationships. So the whole
- 4:19time I'm doing real estate investment, I'm still
- 4:22kind of just praying to God, you know, I would
- 4:26love to do something that is my passion. And
- 4:28I just remember early on listening to a podcast
- 4:32and hearing about, you know, there's going to
- 4:34be a new version of you every five to seven years.
- 4:41grow with it, learn the new you and be flexible
- 4:46with that. Be okay with changes and become your
- 4:49best version of yourself in that process. So
- 4:52grow with it, learn, read, listen to podcasts.
- 4:54And I was just like, you know what? I really
- 4:56want something to come to me that would be more
- 4:59passionate design or people or connections. And
- 5:03the Scout Guide was presented to me and it just
- 5:05felt like right up my alley because it's such
- 5:08a beautiful. print publication, but focusing
- 5:12on businesses in my beloved hometown and connecting
- 5:16our community. I love this. So tell the listeners
- 5:19if they're not familiar, what exactly is the
- 5:22Scout Guide? Yeah. So it's a beautiful once yearly
- 5:25print publication that features our local businesses.
- 5:29And the concept behind the Scout Guide is connecting
- 5:33our community, not just, you know, if you open
- 5:36a magazine and you're like, oh, ad, ad, ad. advertisement.
- 5:39No, the Scout Guide came together because it
- 5:42was all about how can we showcase our most amazing
- 5:45businesses, but not just businesses, the story
- 5:48behind them. Who is the owner of this lifelong
- 5:52mom and pop restaurant? Let's get to know them
- 5:55and their story. What if they came from Italy
- 5:57and they put $5 into this spot and now it's the
- 6:01best local Italian restaurant? And how can we
- 6:04get our community to know that story so that
- 6:08we now support that business. Because as we know,
- 6:11it's really the story that sells, not an advertisement.
- 6:14And so the purpose of The Scout is to show the
- 6:18story behind the business in a beautiful print
- 6:20way. It really is a gorgeous book. I think it's
- 6:23beautifully done. And we'll put a photo up for
- 6:26the folks to see as well. You have never done
- 6:32any sort of publishing or writing or printing
- 6:35before, right? That's not your background at
- 6:37all? Well, no. I mean, I did get my degree in
- 6:40graphic design. Oh, you did? Okay. Actually,
- 6:42my goal in school was I'm going to go to New
- 6:44York and I'm going to be in a magazine. It was
- 6:46all like about the Devil Wears Prada to me. Yeah,
- 6:48yeah. Fashion and pretty dresses and somehow
- 6:52I will have, you know, the Gucci hand -me -downs
- 6:55one day doing a beautiful print magazine. But
- 6:57to me, I associated that. I associated that with
- 7:02magazine. Okay. But I had kids early, so never
- 7:05did I imagine I would end up being the editor
- 7:08and owner of a... publication, but here we are.
- 7:11That's awesome. So did you live in New York?
- 7:13No, never left Jupiter Florida. So you've always
- 7:16been here. You're actually a Floridian? Yes.
- 7:19My daughters go to the same school that I went
- 7:21to. It's really sweet. So I don't meet many people
- 7:24that are born in Florida. I always tell my son,
- 7:26I'm like, you're the only Floridian I know. So
- 7:28now there's two of you. Unicorns. That's cool.
- 7:31Unicorns. So I want to dive into something. I've
- 7:34heard you say this, and I think it's a nice I
- 7:38think it's a nice way to live life with these
- 7:43words in your head, or at least it's a good piece
- 7:46of advice I'd like to share with people. So you've
- 7:50said you could be better or bitter. And so if
- 7:54you talk about that better or bitter moment.
- 7:58Did you have any professional setbacks ever or
- 8:01personal ones that you'd like to discuss? And
- 8:03what were those hurdles? What made those decisions?
- 8:07And how did you get to where you are now with
- 8:11that in mind, with the better or bitter? Yeah,
- 8:14so true. Well, after starting Lady Jet Set and
- 8:17then, you know, I felt that I was at the peak
- 8:21of my life. I had started this dream company
- 8:24and it was on the verge of taking off. Actually,
- 8:27we were speaking with Shark Tank. It was actually.
- 8:30Really? Yeah. And they, I'll never forget the
- 8:33email I get. We're going to have to cancel our
- 8:34flight to come down to meet you because this
- 8:37virus that's going around and we're not sure.
- 8:39where it's going from here. And I'm sitting in
- 8:42my showroom, three bedrooms full of $1 million
- 8:45of beautiful designer ski wear and ball gowns
- 8:50and dresses and thinking, oh no, like this world
- 8:54might be shutting down. And a week later, the
- 8:57world just shuts down. And there goes my entire
- 8:59concept of my business, travel, and then even
- 9:02further some personal things. So walking through
- 9:05that journey of basically Every dream of professional
- 9:09and personal thing kind of just being taken away
- 9:13from me, not my choice. And, you know, hearing
- 9:17advice from somebody, I believe it was a Christian
- 9:20counselor I was talking to or a podcast I was
- 9:21listening to. And she looked at me and said,
- 9:24you know, Bethany, everybody will go through
- 9:27a crazy hard challenge in life. And what's even
- 9:29more challenging is when the challenge is something
- 9:32that. is not what you wanted or something that
- 9:35didn't even have anything to do with a mistake
- 9:37you made or something you did wrong. It's a challenge
- 9:40that just something completely ruined your life,
- 9:43got taken away from you. You get the choice in
- 9:46that moment. Like here's the next version of
- 9:48your life coming up, coming up 2 .0. You get
- 9:52the choice. Do you want to become bitter or better?
- 9:54Nice. And we all know that person that just walks
- 9:57around life with like, woe is me, poor me. Do
- 10:00you know what happened to me? And I was like,
- 10:02wow. you know what? I'm going to become the best
- 10:05damn version of myself. Those are such powerful
- 10:08words, though, if you really think about it,
- 10:10because so many people, like you just said, are
- 10:12walking around saying, poor me, for no reason
- 10:16at all. It actually blocks the blessings that
- 10:19are supposed to come your way for 2 .0. And if
- 10:22you can just learn how to be okay with the punch,
- 10:26roll with the punches, but also... like the reward
- 10:30that comes with it. When you make yourself so
- 10:32proud, like I did it. I just, I went through
- 10:35that and now maybe it's not what I want right
- 10:38away, but the version of the next version of
- 10:40me is coming and it's going to be the best version
- 10:42of me. That's, and it's great advice. I feel
- 10:45like I'm so in the daily grind that I don't.
- 10:48I give myself a lot of time to think anything
- 10:52really at these days anymore. Think negative,
- 10:55think positive. I do think a positive a lot and
- 10:56I try to share positivity because I think life
- 10:59is too short to not. And I feel like those are
- 11:04just great words of wisdom for any entrepreneur
- 11:07or anybody in general to hear those words because
- 11:10you're all going to go through struggles. It's
- 11:12like your decision to do what you're going to
- 11:14do with it, right? Absolutely. You know, you've
- 11:17built businesses. I mean, you've done quite a
- 11:20bit in a short amount of time, all while having
- 11:22two little girls, right? Yes. And how old are
- 11:26they? 11 and 13. And they're like stunning. They're
- 11:30like little mini -me's, like little copy and
- 11:33pastes of you. And that's so nice, though, for
- 11:37them. You know, for us, we're both moms. And
- 11:40I think it's nice for our children to see. us
- 11:43hustling and see us working really hard and building
- 11:46things and being a part of the community and
- 11:48I think that's really good you know sometimes
- 11:51I get the mom guilt because I'm not home and
- 11:54I'm working or out to dinner I'm doing the things
- 11:56but I'm like you know at the end of the day I
- 11:58always remind him I do this for you honey yeah
- 12:02and I told him even just the other day I said
- 12:04you know we're here in the midst of the summer
- 12:07the kids are just going back to school and it's
- 12:09like You know, you have to take those moments
- 12:12and make the time and really make a conscious
- 12:14effort, I think, and to play that role as a parent
- 12:18or a mom specifically and as a business owner.
- 12:23It's a struggle, I think, that a lot of people
- 12:26don't talk a lot about. Yeah. The juggle struggle.
- 12:29It really is. It really is. So let's talk about
- 12:33like community building versus entrepreneurships,
- 12:36because I know that you have hosted events, I
- 12:38think, or you've chaired events, but I feel like
- 12:41you're always out in the community. You know,
- 12:43you and I are similar, I think, where we like
- 12:45meeting our neighbors and helping our community
- 12:47grow. Yeah, I think that's what it's all about.
- 12:50You know, with anything in life, whether you
- 12:54are a mom looking for the best pediatrician for
- 12:58your child or you're hosting an event and you
- 13:00want to find that, I think that our community.
- 13:04relies on each other. And you can see that through
- 13:06group pages like Jupiter Mamas. We all rely on
- 13:10each other. What would you say is your best experience?
- 13:13And so what that tells us in any business, or
- 13:16even if you're not a business owner, is that
- 13:19our word of mouth is everything. And so even
- 13:23if you are running a business that has to do
- 13:26with print advertising or digital marketing or
- 13:28sales or restaurant, The word of mouth is the
- 13:32most powerful. And so what that means is that
- 13:35we need to rely on the words of mouth that are
- 13:38going around town, right? So we can only do so
- 13:42much as one human being. But what happens when
- 13:44we get 110 business owners in the same room and
- 13:49we are getting them on the same page? Hey, will
- 13:52you support each other? Will you become each
- 13:55other's advocates? Because we know that word
- 13:58of mouth is the most powerful. And that happens
- 14:01through when we get to know each other, through
- 14:03the community, through the story. So through
- 14:06these events, you know, not only are you getting
- 14:09to meet somebody, but now you're seeing. wow,
- 14:12I didn't know that that was the chef of the restaurant.
- 14:15I did not know that that boutique was owned by
- 14:18that mom and she's got four kids. I didn't even
- 14:20know that. But now I want to go support that
- 14:23boutique. Now I want to go support that restaurant.
- 14:26Now I want to go support that business because
- 14:28you're getting to know their story. And that's
- 14:31what happens when you combine our community business
- 14:35owners. And it's just so important. We kind of
- 14:38get lost in the digital world. But the personal
- 14:42relationships, that's never going to be something
- 14:44I can take away because we need it. Yeah. Oh,
- 14:47100%. You need a human interaction and that,
- 14:50you know, knowing people, meeting people. I do.
- 14:53I thrive on it. And it's the most powerful for
- 14:56business. Any ROI, any return, any business will
- 15:00tell you when I get on the phone with them, I'll
- 15:02ask them, what has been the most successful for
- 15:04you in your business? Because I know they're
- 15:07not going to say, putting my business in a print
- 15:09publication. I already know that. No, you know
- 15:13what they say? Word of mouth. I already know
- 15:15that because you're right. That does work. That
- 15:17is where we tie in everything. When you tie that
- 15:21in to be a part of everything that you do in
- 15:23your business, and when you make that the most
- 15:25important part, then you realize our community
- 15:28events are so important. And they are. And what
- 15:31I love specifically about our area, jupiter to
- 15:35cuesta it's like the cutest tiniest town and
- 15:38it's just hopping off gardens uh i do really
- 15:42have a sense of because i'm from new york originally
- 15:45and i'm here 15 years now and that's it was funny
- 15:48because it's like i did the similar things in
- 15:52new york when i lived there i was always out
- 15:54and about i'm still i'm still the same person
- 15:56i've been all these years and i feel like i kind
- 15:59of like tapped out like on long island not the
- 16:02city but i'm like I felt like I knew everybody,
- 16:05but I loved it. And I'm like, I want to go conquer
- 16:08another area and move to Florida. And then I
- 16:11had my son and all that. But it's just, it's
- 16:14a really nice town because I can go anywhere.
- 16:16And especially like our local businesses here,
- 16:18I cannot speak enough about them because as you
- 16:22said, whether it's a boutique, whether it's a
- 16:24restaurant, whether it's even a jewelry store
- 16:26here. I mean, we have a lot of really good, I
- 16:30don't feel like we're inundated with big, huge
- 16:32corporate. spaces and businesses. And I'm like,
- 16:36that makes me so happy because I do want to meet
- 16:39the owner. Like Lady Jetside is a great example.
- 16:42I rented from you a couple of times and I would
- 16:44rather support you than Rent the Runway. I don't
- 16:48know Rent the Runway. I don't know them. Or Amazon
- 16:50or Fast Fashion, which is the greatest waste.
- 16:52That's how I think. And that's what I think our
- 16:54community is well aware of. I agree. I think
- 16:58the residents in Jupiter. crave to support each
- 17:02other. When we find out, like in Jupiter Farms,
- 17:06when we find out that a business is closing and
- 17:09we rally, that's like, oh my gosh, no, we don't
- 17:13want to see that. We want to rally around each
- 17:15other. And I'll never forget, I saw on Jupiter
- 17:17Mamas a post that said, I ran into the owner
- 17:20of Rosa's Popsicles, the ice cream off of Indiantown,
- 17:24and a sweet son and father started it. And they
- 17:28said they're having to shut down because they're
- 17:30not doing well. And she said, can we all rally
- 17:33around and support? And I was like, let's do
- 17:36it. And I took that. I reposted it on our page.
- 17:40I'm like, everybody, let's go. How can we support
- 17:42them? How can we go? Who wants to see a business
- 17:45close their doors because they didn't have community
- 17:47support? And that is what's so beautiful about
- 17:50Jupiter Palm Beach Gardens. Living here my whole
- 17:53life, seeing that we crave that, we support that.
- 17:56We're never going to want to see the Starbucks
- 17:59take out the mom and pop coffee shop. 100%. And
- 18:02that's what I love about this town. And what
- 18:04I love, one of my favorite quotes is, don't New
- 18:06York our Jupiter. Because we, that was - I'm
- 18:09your 15 years now. I'm already like a resident,
- 18:12all right? So let me have it. I know. No, but
- 18:17when you see that go into the businesses, it
- 18:19really does make it special because - You can
- 18:22guarantee every business owner has the same mindset,
- 18:26and that's what makes it even more powerful because
- 18:27they all do rally around each other. You don't
- 18:29want to see you close. We all want to see each
- 18:32other not just thrive but literally succeed to
- 18:35the end. So restaurants are one of the businesses,
- 18:39one of the industries that— It's hard. It's rough.
- 18:44Yeah. It's rough. They're running on very, very
- 18:46little profit margins. Food costs are up. Their
- 18:49insurance is through the roof. They're every
- 18:51which way, you know. And I love that you have
- 18:55in the Scout Guide some features of restaurants
- 18:58which were beautifully designed by which artist
- 19:01was it? Kirsten Sadlier. She drew this beautiful.
- 19:05Top taste of town. That's gorgeous. That's absolutely
- 19:08gorgeous. And I love, so they can put features
- 19:10in the guide. Is that correct? The restaurants
- 19:12can? Okay. Yes. And so what are your, you're
- 19:15a flavored diner. Have you worked in a restaurant
- 19:17ever? I sure did. You did? Growing up, yes. Tell
- 19:20me. This episode is sponsored by Altima Caviar.
- 19:24Experience exceptional. Visit them at Altima Caviar
- 19:28.com. I was a waitress at, let's see, 15 years
- 19:32old, my first job at CR Chicks North Lake.
- 19:35I got to know the owners, Chris and Rick, and
- 19:38helped them. I watched them build even now that
- 19:40I think they have eight locations. And every
- 19:43single time I walk into a CR Chicks, I know.
- 19:45I used to work the commissary. I know how fresh
- 19:48this food is. I know the owners. They're two
- 19:51amazing dads, locals. Their kids grew up here.
- 19:55And so it's really special to see that. Then
- 19:58I worked in West Palm Beach at Brewzzi and
- 20:01Nick and Johnny's. Bart was serving, bartending?
- 20:04Yes, serving. Serving, okay. But no, I actually
- 20:07have such a special place in my heart for restaurants
- 20:10in Jupiter and Palm Beach Gardens because growing
- 20:12up here, when I was going to Jupiter Christian
- 20:16right on Indiantown, The restaurants that we
- 20:18had, I think the nicest restaurant that we had
- 20:21was The Food Shack. I remember thinking everybody
- 20:25loved it, but that was like the one fine dining
- 20:28you went to. There was no 1000 North. There was
- 20:29no Beacon, Jetty's, UTK, like all these new spots.
- 20:33So I love fine dining and I love eating out.
- 20:37To see these new restaurants come, I am just
- 20:40like, yay! more options for me. But also like,
- 20:44we need to make you succeed. We need to make
- 20:46sure that you, that this is successful because
- 20:48to me, it's so exciting to see new restaurants
- 20:51come. We, I feel like, and you of all people
- 20:54can speak to this. So when I used to visit my
- 20:58grandfather, he lived in Jupiter and Stewart
- 20:59in 96. So I came here when I was a teenager and
- 21:04me seeing the evolution from then to now is insane,
- 21:07right? So for you, who was actually like born
- 21:09and raised here, I think it's so cool that we
- 21:12have this evolution. We have a huge, we have
- 21:15a food scene. Yeah, we do. I mean, we just got,
- 21:17Michelin came here last year. We have some serious
- 21:20restaurants in this county. Yes, we sure do.
- 21:22Like, no joke, celebrity chefs. Yep. Like, it's
- 21:25actually incredible. So you. participate as a
- 21:28flavored diner. Oh yeah, absolutely. So it's
- 21:31like, tell me like what your... August, September
- 21:33is my favorite month in Jupiter because, you
- 21:36know, as with the real estate and post COVID,
- 21:39we've seen such an influx of New Yorkers in California
- 21:43moving down here, which is great, fine. Like
- 21:45we, that's, it's been amazing for our businesses,
- 21:48right? Because it's helped our businesses grow.
- 21:51It's helped us be able to build and grow new
- 21:54restaurants because As Jupiter locals, we're
- 21:58aware we need more restaurants. People from New
- 22:00York are moving down here and they're craving
- 22:03good high -end quality food. So September is
- 22:07my favorite because one, we get our town back.
- 22:10I don't have to fight my restaurants for reservations.
- 22:13I'm like, knock it off. Get me in my favorite
- 22:15spots. I eat out a lot. So it's amazing in September
- 22:20to see. not only with a passion and the heart
- 22:23behind, let's make sure our restaurants, our
- 22:26businesses don't even ever have to deal with
- 22:28a slow month, but also it's a great opportunity
- 22:31because there's such a local love here, including
- 22:33me. I'm a local resident. We get our town back.
- 22:37Now is my chance. I'm like, yes, now I get to
- 22:39go. back to all these restaurants where I know
- 22:42it's hard in December to get reservations and
- 22:45go explore and try these new flavor menus. And
- 22:50I love, love, love the flavor menus you guys
- 22:53put together. It's truly always my favorite picks
- 22:56from the restaurant, from the menu. But the way,
- 22:59the price point that you've got together, even
- 23:02as a local, it makes it like a no brainer to
- 23:05just go out and eat every day. I'm always like,
- 23:07so otherwise I'm going to Whole Foods and I'm
- 23:11buying $195 worth of groceries to cook for two,
- 23:16wasting it all. I'm not a big leftover fan. Or
- 23:20go get this flavor menu for what, like a great
- 23:24price point for two of us. And all incredible,
- 23:27you've got incredible restaurants on here. Truly
- 23:30some of my favorite, all my favorites. Top tier.
- 23:32I mean, we've got 1000 NORTH, Capital Grill.
- 23:36I love the V&E Restaurant Group is on board. Salute Market.
- 23:41I don't know if you've been there. We've got
- 23:44like really, really – Cafe Chardonnay has been
- 23:47doing it since we started Flavor almost 20 years
- 23:50ago. They are like the OG. They are the most
- 23:51iconic OG. Yes, they are. How fun is that? When
- 23:54you look at that, it just makes me so proud as
- 23:57a local. Like you made it. And you know what
- 23:59helped them make it? Local love, supporting them
- 24:03and being a part of everything that they're doing.
- 24:05And that's what I love what Flavor does. But
- 24:08also – You've done it in such an amazing way
- 24:10where as a local, I genuinely can't wait to try
- 24:14these menus. I love that because I actually really
- 24:17deep in my heart want it. I cry like dirt. You're
- 24:21talking about COVID before we had restaurants
- 24:24that had to close, right? Everybody did. Industries
- 24:27closed, like not specific to restaurants. I can't
- 24:29take it away from other industries, but like.
- 24:31I cried. I was crying. Because you know that
- 24:35it's a mom and dad behind that business. It's
- 24:38not a corporate industry. It's a local family.
- 24:42And to see any business shut down because they
- 24:45don't have the local community support is, one,
- 24:48unnecessary. Two extremely heartbreaking. Yeah.
- 24:51So, I mean, thankfully, all the ones that I work
- 24:55with, we got through it and we were I was reading
- 24:58state orders. We were like I was finding loopholes.
- 25:01I'm like, here, you guys, we can do this. We
- 25:03can do that. We got very creative. There was
- 25:07great lines everywhere, but we did it. Yeah.
- 25:09So, OK, let me ask you some locally. Where are
- 25:12your your favorites in Palm Beach County for
- 25:16Girls Night? Ooh, girls' night, I would say.
- 25:23And it could be anywhere in Palm Beach County.
- 25:26I'm loving Riverhouse lately, 1000 North. Stage
- 25:29has a fun. But Seminole Reef Grill, have you
- 25:32seen their girls' night lately? I haven't. They
- 25:35have the martini stack. Caesar salad, french
- 25:38fries, and espresso martini. That's a fun girls'
- 25:41night. That's a new favorite. I'm in on that.
- 25:43I'm 100 % down for that. Date night? 1000 North.
- 25:47Yeah. To me, it's just so special seeing the
- 25:51water and the lighthouse. Are you a member? Yes.
- 25:55Okay. Do you spend more time upstairs or downstairs,
- 25:57though? Actually, we love going upstairs just
- 26:00to have, like, maybe that quiet, like, a little
- 26:03after -dinner cocktail or to bring some friends
- 26:06up there who maybe are from out of town and just
- 26:10go, like, have you seen the lighthouse at sunset?
- 26:12Have a cocktail and then go down for... A great
- 26:15dinner. They have a great flavor menu. Yeah,
- 26:18they do. They really do. I actually noticed something
- 26:20recently. I'm going to keep going here, but I
- 26:22noticed recently about myself. Like, I like...
- 26:25um like the dark male vibe restaurants isn't
- 26:29it funny so like cozy i love a thousand north
- 26:31i love the butcher's club like think about these
- 26:34are all like very masculine looking like i also
- 26:37like rouse side yeah oh polar room yeah that's
- 26:40another one exactly boom boom boom that's my
- 26:42vibe of my favorite like where i want to go eat
- 26:45dinner i want to go Dark and moody and all that.
- 26:47Cozy. Cozy. Yeah. I also like the light and airy.
- 26:51Yes. I like the Palm Beach spots too. I like
- 26:53the colony. I like all that. But it really is
- 26:56so funny because I realized that recently I was
- 26:57giving somebody recommendations. They're all
- 26:59very masculine designs, aren't they? I go, you're
- 27:02right. They are. That was so interesting to me.
- 27:05Okay. Favorite waterfront location? Probably
- 27:08Riverhouse. Riverhouse. Okay. I always lean toward
- 27:12beach spots. I don't even think of that, but
- 27:15good call. Good call on that. There's something
- 27:17about watching those boats go by. I'm like, take
- 27:19me with you. Where are we going? It's literally
- 27:23take me with you. Happy hour? Actually, ARA
- 27:28and Beacon have had a good happy hour. ARA and
- 27:32Beacon are solid. Good choices. Good choices.
- 27:34Did you ever go to Topside? Oh, yes. Topside's
- 27:36fun. Yeah. I feel like it's underrated. I feel
- 27:39like a lot of people aren't even like remembering
- 27:41to go there. Yeah, that's a good idea because
- 27:43it's more like you feel like you're on vacation
- 27:45when you go there. Yeah. I like Topside. I think
- 27:47it's fun and it's vibey and it's cute up there.
- 27:50I'm going to go there later. Yeah. Okay. And
- 27:53finally, fine dining. Can't repeat answers. Yeah,
- 27:57exactly. Well, for the fine dining, I really
- 28:00do like to make it down to Palm Beach. Me too.
- 28:03The The Polo Lounge. Oh, my gosh. That is just. It's
- 28:07really great. Incredible. Have you been to Tutto Mare?
- 28:10Yes. Yeah. Oh, my gosh. You know what Tutto Mare
- 28:13is to me? It's like a St. Bart's vibe. Yeah.
- 28:16It is kind of like another feel like you kind
- 28:19of feel like you're on vacation. Great food.
- 28:22You kind of like escape into. Another zip code
- 28:25for a minute. So I saw Ramona from The Real Housewives
- 28:28when I was there. Oh, yeah. I love her. Yeah,
- 28:29recently. Actually, speaking of The Real Housewives,
- 28:32do you want to play a little game? Yes. Okay.
- 28:34That's fine. You have to answer really fast,
- 28:36though. It's like a rapid fire. Okay. Okay. Real
- 28:39Housewives or Shark Tank? Shark Tank. Sunrise
- 28:42or sunset? Sunset. Favorite travel destination
- 28:44you've ever visited? You go there a lot. One
- 28:48thing people are surprised to learn about you?
- 28:51Oh, that. My first entrepreneurial business was
- 28:55fashion in 2017. That would not shock me. Not
- 28:58one bit. Your daughters would describe you in
- 29:01three words as? Loving, motivated, selfless,
- 29:07and sometimes cranky, if they're not messy. Aren't
- 29:14we all? What is something you're still afraid
- 29:17to try? Ooh, expanding, going bigger. Yeah. doubling
- 29:23down maybe taking on two doing a second doing
- 29:26a third like afraid of that time management yeah
- 29:30but learning how to manage your time has been
- 29:33one of the coolest things I've learned being
- 29:37okay to delegate what you think you're good at
- 29:40with somebody else and being able to scale up
- 29:43I feel like You would probably do okay with expanding.
- 29:49But I think, because I have the same fear. Everyone's
- 29:51like, would you? I was like, oh, maybe I'll do
- 29:53a Flavor Nantucket. You should. Flavor Chicago.
- 29:56Flavor whatever. Actually, I thought about that
- 29:57the other day. Really, anywhere in the country
- 29:59that wants and needs a restaurant mom. But then
- 30:01you deal with the quality management, right?
- 30:02Well, the good thing is, like, in theory, Nantucket,
- 30:05or I'm just using that as an example, would be
- 30:07not September. Correct. Because they're busy
- 30:09September. So they would probably be in, like,
- 30:11March or April. Seasons. And then I'm like, oh,
- 30:14that sounds like a lot of work. But I think what's
- 30:17important for me at least, and I think for you
- 30:19too, is to have the most incredible people by
- 30:22your side and cheering you on and working for
- 30:26you, working with you, and having that support
- 30:29system. Honestly, without my support system,
- 30:31I wouldn't be here. It's so true. There's no
- 30:34way. I couldn't. It's so true. It's impossible.
- 30:36Building up your dream team. That's everything.
- 30:38That's what it is. Honestly. It truly is. And
- 30:42I think you could do 10 scout guides. I love
- 30:46that. And you know, it's funny. I was afraid
- 30:48to even take on this one. And my sister challenged
- 30:51me. She's like, why don't you write down your
- 30:52fears and just realize that those all just live
- 30:56in your head. Yeah, they do. Your sister, your
- 30:59twin, we have to say just Leonie. She's an identical
- 31:02twin. Identical twin. My best friend. Do you
- 31:04read each other's minds? You know what? We're
- 31:07so in sync that it's scary. She sent me a text.
- 31:10I'm like, I actually had a dream that I was supposed
- 31:12to message you about that. Did you just like
- 31:14read my mind or meet me in my dreams? It's eerie.
- 31:18We'll show up in the same outfits. It's crazy.
- 31:20Well, you share like literal DNA. So I feel like
- 31:24that makes sense. You're like kind of like the
- 31:26same person. It really is wild. That's really
- 31:29cool though. So you have any weird twin stories
- 31:31though? Oh, yeah, the funniest twin story. We
- 31:34both have like a spray tan membership at a local
- 31:37spray tan. And I didn't know we both went in
- 31:40and bought like the same spray tan package. And
- 31:44we both went in the same day within five minutes
- 31:49from each other. So my sister went in before
- 31:51and she said, hey, okay, well, this girl that
- 31:54ran the desk didn't know we're identical twins.
- 31:56she kept using my sister's package as mine. So
- 32:00my sister comes in, she's like, okay, I'm going
- 32:02to get the clear spray tint, whatever. I come
- 32:04in five minutes later and I asked for the exact
- 32:07same thing. Well, meanwhile, me and my sister
- 32:09have never spoken about this. And she looks at
- 32:10me and she goes, again, another one? And I was
- 32:15like, yeah, like no idea what she's talking about.
- 32:18So I leave and my sister's like, oh yeah, I just
- 32:21got a spray tint. I was like, oh my gosh. So
- 32:24we went back in. Turns out my package was empty.
- 32:27My sisters had none taken away from it. This
- 32:30chick thought we were coming in the same person
- 32:33for like two spray tans in one 10 -minute session.
- 32:37It was funny. And you're just like, yeah, I'm
- 32:39here again. It's funny how many people in town
- 32:42don't know we're identical twins, so they'll
- 32:44confuse us. I can actually really tell you both
- 32:46apart. Yeah, but we have such differences. But
- 32:49if you don't know that we're a twin, there's
- 32:51such a resemblance there that it makes it. Crazy.
- 32:54I had ordered a special delivery for you. Oh.
- 32:59What do we have here? Just walking on in here.
- 33:02All right. I'm going to get you your gift all
- 33:04set up. But in the meanwhile, I have to finish
- 33:07my rapid fire with this. Okay. Okay. So because
- 33:11we're both into fashion, I have to ask you, though,
- 33:14what's your favorite designer brand? And it could
- 33:16be, like, I have some very obscure, like. quiet
- 33:21luxury ones. I'm curious if you tell me yours.
- 33:24Okay. For clothing, Retrofête and PatBO by far.
- 33:28Retrofête's collection is like, I need everything.
- 33:31Bags, Chanel, Gucci, YSL. But you know, my new
- 33:35favorite designer that's making this crazy strong
- 33:37comeback appearance is Miu Miu. I know. I want
- 33:42everything. I have to tell you a funny story
- 33:44about this. So I'm one of these people, if it's
- 33:46something is trending, like I'm just not doing
- 33:49it. I'm like, nope. Nope. Nope. And Miu Miu sunglasses.
- 33:54And their little cowboy hats. Their straw cowboy
- 33:56hats. I want everything. But everyone's getting
- 33:57them. And I'm like, I'm not wearing the same
- 33:59sunglasses as everybody else. I'm refusing to
- 34:01do this. I know. I'm going to cave in six months
- 34:03when this trend is over. That's what I do. Right.
- 34:06So it's so funny. So I started this new thing
- 34:08that I think you'll appreciate. Okay. Whenever,
- 34:12when I've been traveling, I have been purchasing
- 34:15a handbag. From where I am. I love that. So when
- 34:20I went to London, I got – It's the best thing
- 34:22you can do. Do you know this brand? It's called
- 34:23Delvaux, but I'm probably saying it wrong. It's
- 34:27the oldest leather goods house in the world,
- 34:30older than Hermès. No way. And you know what?
- 34:33They probably do the leather for high -end designer
- 34:37companies. They're from Belgium. Wow. And I –
- 34:40I'm obsessed with this brand. I love that. It's
- 34:43a beautiful piece. And I purchased my handbags
- 34:47to collect them. Exactly. But also every time
- 34:50you pick that up, you remember that amazing travel
- 34:52destination. And so what else did I get? I did
- 34:58Poland when I was in Paris. Do you ever get Poland?
- 35:01No. Crazy, crazy expensive. I feel like it's
- 35:07attainable, and the leather is beautiful. I did
- 35:10a lot of research on all the leathers. Ooh, I
- 35:11want to see. This could be a separate podcast.
- 35:13We could have a purse fashion podcast. Absolutely.
- 35:17I'm down for it, 100%. But I think people don't
- 35:20realize, yes, I'm completely into food and our
- 35:23food scene, but I have a serious problem. I think
- 35:25food, fashion, and travel go all together very
- 35:27collectively. I have a weird thing with the leathers,
- 35:29actually. We like bougie, so I'm going to wrap.
- 35:33up this episode with a bougie little surprise
- 35:35for you. Wow. So I brought a little surprise
- 35:39for you. Oh my goodness. So this episode is actually
- 35:42sponsored by Altima Caviar. Wow. And I want you
- 35:47to try it because I hope you like caviar. I love
- 35:49caviar. Oh my gosh, yes. I mean, here, I'm going
- 35:52to pass it over to you. Look at that beautiful
- 35:55packaging. This is their amber, and the whole
- 35:58tin is for you. No way. Here's your little Mother
- 36:01of Pearl spoon. You could kick that home with
- 36:04you as well. The little Van Cleef spoon. Are
- 36:05you kidding me? Wow. And do they deliver this?
- 36:09They deliver. They're local. Let's talk about
- 36:11local. Oh, my gosh. Palm Beach based. Wow. Yes.
- 36:17Oh, my gosh. That is so smooth and, like, buttery.
- 36:23Wow. I'm finding caviar popping up a lot. Who's
- 36:25having a party at my house tonight? Me. Wow.
- 36:30They have these little jet packs, too, for you
- 36:32to bring on the airplane with you. And it comes
- 36:35with a little eye mask. It's the cutest thing.
- 36:37Will you send me that? That is so cute. Look
- 36:40how cute. I know. It is amazing. Ways to elevate
- 36:43your travel. Luxury. Caviar. Like, who wouldn't
- 36:46want to take caviar on your plane? I'm bringing
- 36:48it. How sweet. Thank you. You're welcome. I am
- 36:52bringing my little jet pack with me when I go
- 36:55away next month. I'm so excited. Oh, my gosh.
- 36:57And where can you get that? On their website.
- 36:59You can buy it online? So it's AltimaCaviar.com.
- 37:01Wow. And you can get the jet pack there. You
- 37:02can get small tins. That's incredible. Larger
- 37:04tins if you're having a party. I did it at holiday
- 37:07time. They have a great pack, too. So if you're
- 37:09having a lot of people over, you can get all
- 37:11different varieties. That was the smoothest melt
- 37:13in your mouth. Wow. It's so good, right? Okay.
- 37:16You'll have to send me that website. I find like,
- 37:18honestly, and I know this, let me try to be relatable
- 37:21here. I feel like. I've seen a lot of people
- 37:24use caviar in restaurants in lieu of maybe a
- 37:27salt even. I've seen some in pastas with caviar
- 37:31on top, and I've seen a lot of caviar pop all
- 37:34over, and I feel like it's trending right now.
- 37:36Oh, it's like how truffle started out. Yes. And
- 37:39it's actually more of a statement. It's almost
- 37:42like bottle service at a club. Did you just order
- 37:45caviar? It's a luxury statement. It does, you
- 37:50know, we were just actually in St. Barts. We
- 37:52just ordered caviar and they brought us table
- 37:53service and they, you know, now it's caviar menus
- 37:56where you can pick the finer ones. You immediately
- 37:59know the finer ones, but yeah, you're right.
- 38:02It's, it is like this trending, but it's actually
- 38:07so good for you. It is good for you. It's actually
- 38:11very healthy for you. Yeah. So shout out to Altima
- 38:13Caviar because we are trying to stay healthy
- 38:15over here. How exciting. I can't wait to try
- 38:18it. Live through life. Be healthy. Yeah. How
- 38:21cool. I am going to wrap up here with one question
- 38:25for you. Okay. I'm going to show you a picture
- 38:28of this woman. And I want you not knowing her
- 38:33to give her three pieces of advice just based
- 38:37on her photo. Okay. Okay? Okay. You're so funny.
- 38:53It's so true because I think that every decision
- 38:57we make needs to be like, what would that five
- 39:01or 10 year version of us have? Because it's so,
- 39:04our life can go by in like a blink of an eye.
- 39:07And we really should be making those decisions
- 39:10like, In five years from now, will I look back
- 39:13and be proud of that? Yeah. So I look at that.
- 39:17I'm like, don't let the fear stop you. And just
- 39:24because you're not good at something, you know,
- 39:26I had someone say to me, you have no idea how
- 39:29to do business. And I thought that meant, oh,
- 39:33my gosh, I need to be stuck as. a housewife,
- 39:36or I need to be stuck only doing what I think
- 39:39I'm good at. And it's such a lie from the enemy
- 39:43because we are made for so much. The potential
- 39:47inside of us is God -given. God created the entire
- 39:51universe and that lives inside of us. And that
- 39:54means we can start any business that we want.
- 39:57If it's a passion of yours, if it's even... glimmer
- 40:00of an idea, why can't you go start it? It's just
- 40:04every day, start with something. What does it
- 40:05take to start a business? You don't know? There's
- 40:08a podcast for that. There's a book for that.
- 40:10Learn it. Learn it. Just because you don't know
- 40:13it, don't let that become your identity of like,
- 40:16this is who I am. I'm only meant to be a housewife.
- 40:19I'm only meant to be a mom. I'm only meant to
- 40:21be good at what I'm known at. Why can't you become
- 40:26the best business owner? Why can't you become
- 40:29the best entrepreneur? Why can't you become the
- 40:32best motivator? And it just starts with wanting
- 40:35it and getting rid of those fears. And I think
- 40:37the best advice is to write down those fears
- 40:41because half the time they live in our head and
- 40:44what happens inside of our head only happens
- 40:46with us. And we have to get that out. And half
- 40:49the time when you get that out, you allow like
- 40:53God to come in and say, you know, that's a lie,
- 40:55right? Do you actually think that's going to
- 40:57happen? Do you actually think people are going
- 40:59to think you're a failure? Do you actually think,
- 41:01and so what if you fail? You'll get back up again.
- 41:04You're known as a girl that started a company.
- 41:06Good for you. So that's, I think, my biggest
- 41:09advice is don't let fear stop you and don't let
- 41:14somebody tell you what your identity is. You
- 41:17are a joy and an inspiration. You're the best.
- 41:21And I want to give you a quote since you shared
- 41:24yours earlier. And the one I was told when I
- 41:28was starting my marketing company in 2018 or
- 41:30previous to that was it was an older woman I
- 41:34knew and I met just in my work world. And I said,
- 41:39well, what if I fail? And she looked at me and
- 41:43she said, but what if you fly? It's so true.
- 41:46And I live by that every day because even if
- 41:50we fail, we're going to get back up again and
- 41:52again and again. Yep. Thank you so much for being
- 41:56here. I had such a wonderful time with you. I
- 42:00know. And check out Bethany with the Scout Guide.
- 42:04There's really awesome opportunities. I think
- 42:07everyone either should be advertising in it or
- 42:09just picking it up, reading it, having it on
- 42:12the coffee table. It's beautifully done. And
- 42:14congratulations to you. Thank you. And you too.
- 42:17You're doing an amazing thing. And we have a
- 42:19lot of food to eat next month. I know. We got
- 42:20to make these reservations. Let's do it. Thanks
