INDIA’S TRADE PLATEAU
India’s finance minister says trade talks with Washington may have reached a plateau.
Nirmala Sitharaman said in remarks reported Monday that the negotiations are still ongoing. She said India would like to believe both sides have reached a plateau “beyond which giving or taking might be very very difficult.” The trade balance is very much in India’s favour, she said. Washington is trying to address its imbalance through other means, and tariffs have become a weapon.
