- 1:45to get to this morning. Charleston City Council. Last night everything was cracked
- 1:49up to be, but there was a lot more that came out of city
- 1:52council meeting, just a shouting match that went on. So I'm going to
- 1:57talk about that with counselmen from Ward for Mary Moore is going to be here
- 2:00a little bit later on to talk about that. Plus Ashley offered Glance from
- 2:04the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce will be stopping by and this weekend the West
- 2:07Virginia Auto Show at the Coliseum the Convention Center. We're going to spend some
- 2:09time talking about that as well. Let me welcome into the show for the
- 2:13second straight day, Charleston Mayor Amy Goodwin, Mayor good One, Good morning,
- 2:16welcome back, Good morning to the good company with Ashley and Laine.
- 2:21Great company. And you well you put me at the end. I like
- 2:23that. We knew that it was going to be contentious last night at City
- 2:28Council. One point you were forced to clear the council chambers my words now
- 2:31because people don't know how to behave in public. At the end, council
- 2:37opting to table the issue that was asking for a call from the City of
- 2:40Charlestay request to cease fire in the Israeli Hamas War. Your thoughts, Yeah,
- 2:46so, you know, as I mentioned yesterday, but Shirley Worthy of
- 2:51repeating the majority of Council at the end of December sent a letter to Senator
- 2:55Capitove, Senator Mansion and congress Woman Miller are representatives to say we've support our
- 3:01Muslim community was part of Jewish community, and please, please please work to
- 3:07find a peaceful solution to this horrific tragedy that's going on. And because council
- 3:15felt the majority of council and I felt that that was the best way in
- 3:19which we could show our support. Uh, there were a few handful of
- 3:22council members that said no, they wanted a resolution. Uh, they wanted
- 3:28more direct even though that's not really the process in which we work. And
- 3:31so yes, we had and have had since the end December, pac chambers
- 3:36of folks who were there uh to express their feelings and their thoughts and you
- 3:40know, emails and calls and text, which, by the way, is
- 3:43part of our job is to listen to our constituents. But what isn't something
- 3:49that we're not going to do in city council is you know, by the
- 3:53way, David, there were six other items on City Council. A lot
- 3:55of hard work goes into every the first and third Monday of every month.
- 4:00Sometimes the meetings are only an hour, sometimes they're ninety minutes, sometimes they're
- 4:02thirty five minutes. But I'll promise you this, every single thing on that
- 4:05agenda takes a lot of time. Because the work that we are to do
- 4:10for the citizens in the City of Charlestown, we're all on that agenda last
- 4:13night, growing the East End, creating jobs, working to train our firefighters,
- 4:20taking care of our roadways. By the way, those were also on
- 4:24the agenda last night, and we're not talking about that today. Towards the
- 4:27end of council, as you alluded to, there was a lot of yelling
- 4:30and screaming and from the public. And I've not had to do this but
- 4:35one other time in my five years of being here my job as a mayor.
- 4:40I'm also the chairwoman of council. I chair the meeting and council members
- 4:45could not speak, we couldn't hear one another because it's a pretty small room.
- 4:48You've been in that, it's not a huge room. And so towards
- 4:53the end of council, by the way, the majority of the work had
- 4:55already been completed, and council members have an opportunity to give remarks, or
- 5:00most of the time they give announcements on things that they're doing, or committees
- 5:02or things that are up. Yeah or yeah, hey, I want to
- 5:05make mention you know, I know you're getting ready to have council member More.
- 5:08He's excellent of doing that and the work that he does on the West
- 5:12side. But we literally couldn't hear anybody, and so we had to clear
- 5:15the chamber. And I hate to do that because I want everybody to know
- 5:18people's voices are heard, and we are listening, and we have been listening,
- 5:23will continue to listen. But what I can't have in council is a
- 5:30setting where, by the way council members you know, have told me before
- 5:33and after, I felt afraid. I was scared. It's so tumultuous,
- 5:40and we've got to get you know. I spend a little bit of time
- 5:43at the end saying we've got to be respectful, we've got to be kind
- 5:46to everyone, and we've got to treat everyone with kindness even if we disagree.
- 5:50Yelling and screaming and intimidating folks is no way to work with someone.
- 5:56And I think the person who said that best is actually count remember More.
- 6:00At the end of end of the meeting, he did a beautiful job and
- 6:03I think expressing what a lot of folks felt, which was, you know,
- 6:08we love so many members of our community, and I promise you our
- 6:11head and our hearts are always in the right place. Our head and our
- 6:14hearts are always in the right place. It was a difficult time talking about
- 6:16difficult things, but we've got to keep order. We're there to do the
- 6:19people's work. And again the councilble More is going to join us a little
- 6:23bit later on the show. I want to switch gears here Mayor. It
- 6:26was announced it because the structural and electrical issues, the Municipal Auditorium will be
- 6:30closed into a further notice what was discovered and where do we go from here?
- 6:33Yeah, you bet so. End of last year we engaged an engineering
- 6:39firm, as you heard me say, in the state of the city.
- 6:41And by the way, we've been planning this for months. Get somebody in
- 6:44there and tell us, hey, she's beautiful. We have loved her for
- 6:47eighty five years. Municipal Auditorium. She's going to need a lot of work.
- 6:50Tell us where we stand right now, how much work is she going
- 6:55to need? Because as we begin to reimagine her, revision her, how
- 7:00much is it going to take in that process. Engineers are required to dave
- 7:04if they find something that they call a life safety issue, right, something
- 7:11that is wait, hold on, stop the train everybody off. This is
- 7:14a bigger problem than hey it looks like the foundation is cracking, or oh
- 7:17hey you know this this bathroom will need all new plumbing or all new This
- 7:23was an electrical component, one of the main one to the municipal auditorium,
- 7:28significant challenges with it, and so we had to shut it down. This
- 7:33was not an Amy Goodwin decision. These were experts in the field. We
- 7:36met yesterday and it was determined that we had to shut it down, cut
- 7:43off power. And then now what we're doing is looking at the short term
- 7:47and long term plans of what we do as we move forward. You know
- 7:51what I said last night, and this is definitely worth repeating. I'm not
- 7:56going to dump a whole bunch of money into a municipal auditorium. And if
- 7:58the end of the day, this report comes back, which I hope to
- 8:01have in a couple of weeks that says it's a it's you're going to spend
- 8:05tens of millions of dollars fixing it when you should just gut it or tear
- 8:09it down. Or I'm not saying that's what we're gonna do, but there
- 8:13does come a time and that these this is public's money. So I have
- 8:18to be very careful about how much am I going to put in and what
- 8:20is the return on investment that I'm going to get out of it at the
- 8:24end of the day. The only announcement came on the very day when it
- 8:26was announced a comedian Kevin Hart would be coming to the Communist body. And
- 8:30this is yes. And I will say this if it shows us one thing.
- 8:35It shows us this we need immunist auditorium and a structure very much like
- 8:39it. There's been a lot of folks saying that's you should have them at
- 8:43the coliseum, or you should have them at the I don't know very much,
- 8:46but over the five years I have learned now through experts, these are
- 8:50the venues that people want. They don't want to go to a thirteen thousand.
- 8:54Comedians generally speaking, want smaller value. They want smaller venues. They
- 8:58look for those venues. Of course, he could do well the cast,
- 9:01so of course that's not the setting in which they choose. By the way,
- 9:03we don't choose it. We say hey, we have this, Oh,
- 9:07yes, that's what I want. So they made the choice. Yeah
- 9:09it's not art. Yes, they look at this facility and go. It's
- 9:13the seats, by the way, It's a lot of things. It's the
- 9:16amount of seats, it's the close tightness, it is the dates, it's
- 9:20the time, it's the travel route in which they're going. There are a
- 9:24lot of stars that have to align Dave to get somebody like him. But
- 9:26what it shows is we get the big acts. This investment in a new
- 9:33municipal auditorium is absolutely worth every single penny because we can pull in these type
- 9:37of shows. We now have the relationships to do that. That's why you're
- 9:41seeing all of these great names come through and oh, hey, by the
- 9:45way, this is on the hiels of Djokoy and Chappelle and you know,
- 9:48so many other artists that are coming in and we're real proud of it.
- 9:50The one thing I will not do, though, is put somebody in a
- 9:54building when somebody says to me, who's an expert in their field, this
- 9:58isn't safe. We got to fix this first. Yeah, let me do
- 10:00this and then and then we'll let you go. TC Energy it was announced
- 10:03have today we'll be moving from Kanas City to downtown to build a sixty million
- 10:07dollar facility on the on the Boulevard, give me about thirty seconds on that.
- 10:11It's a beautiful building. We're so happy to have hundreds and hundreds of
- 10:15their employees Number one to keep TC Energy. So we're thankful that they are
- 10:18still here in the city of Charleston and to have all of their employees in
- 10:22the downtown area. You know, after the announcement was official, so many
- 10:26of them called and said, I'm so excited. This is exactly what we've
- 10:28wanted. We want to be downtown. So many folks, you know,
- 10:33like you and I, work long hours. They want to go out during
- 10:35the day, go have breakfast, meet somebody for lunch that you know,
- 10:39they want to have that great downtown setting and in that block. Think about
- 10:45all of the great development that's happening. So it's a it's going to be
- 10:48a game changer again for downtown Charleston is just thriving right now. All right,
- 10:52Mayor, I appreciate you stopping by and on short notice this morning,
- 10:56but I felt we need to have you back, so so thanks, thank
- 10:58you. Thanks again. It is nine to eighteen a Dave Aland show in
- 11:01five any Line Bright Team part by our Bridge Valley. Are you interested in

- 11:18a Bridge Valley dot eedu slash apprenticeships. Today Ashley offered Glance as the executive
- 11:22director of the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce and she joins us now. Ashley,
- 11:26good morning, Welcome to the show. Tay, Good morning, Dave.
- 11:28Always glad to be here with you. Sorry running a little bit behind
- 11:31this morning, but want to give you your time because you get a great
- 11:33program over there. You folks have been taking part in a program for some
- 11:37time called Dress for Success, where you've collected gently used business type clothing items
- 11:41to be given to those who need a hand up to help them in their
- 11:45search for work or in some cases a better job, or maybe a promotion
- 11:48or something to that nature. You're back at it again, talk about the
- 11:52program and what can people do to help absolutely sore. At the Putnam Chamber
- 11:56of Commerce, we have a network of women and one of their community service
- 12:00initiatives each year is to partner with Dress for Success River Cities to do clothing
- 12:05drugs. So this is women's clothing and we collect it once a quarter at
- 12:09Area thirty four. Dress for Success has locations in Huntington and in Charleston,
- 12:16but nothing in Nothing for drop off in Putnam County, so we like to
- 12:18be able to offer that at our location, Area thirty four once a quarter.
- 12:24So tomorrow is our first drive of the year and we'll be collecting items
- 12:31from seven am until four pm and then we will take those and drop them
- 12:35off to the team at Dress for Success River Cities. And their mission is
- 12:41to empower women to achieve economic independence spids, providing them a network of support
- 12:48and professional attire and then any development tools they may need to thrive. So
- 12:54it goes hand in hand with our network of women and what their mission is
- 12:56and so we're always proud and happy to support the cost. So if you
- 13:01have any items and it can be professional attire, we're always looking for scrubs
- 13:07as well as nice work appropriate jeans and if you have any questions, you
- 13:13can always call our office or Jessica, the director of Dress for Success River
- 13:18Cities with questions and if you drop Mavet Area thirty four that's located just off
- 13:24the tafe. You come from Charleston off the Tay's Valley exit, take a
- 13:26right and it's between the holiday end of the Army's location, home of the
- 13:30best coffee shop in the valley by the way, Putnam Provisions and Driven.
- 13:33So stop behind see Connie and getting to get yourself a cup of coffee and
- 13:37something much more while you're there. Quickly, I don't want to get into
- 13:41specific names, Ashley, but talk about some success stories you've seen over the
- 13:45years that you've witnessed since the Network of Women's been taking part in this.
- 13:50You know, there have been countless success stories. And one of the things
- 13:56that Jessica does a really great job at is sharing those stories on Dress for
- 14:00Success with social media Facebook and Instagram. But you know, one of the
- 14:05things that we're always really able to help people do if not only provide them
- 14:07with the clothing. You know, going to a job interview is intimidating enough,
- 14:13and if you don't have, you know, the clothes that you're comfortable
- 14:16in or that fit well or that are appropriate for that job, you know
- 14:20that always makes it a little bit more difficult, so to be able to
- 14:22provide those at no cost to the clients and something that's really important. But
- 14:26additionally, you know, Dress for Success can help them with different things like
- 14:33their resume building, interview skills, things like that. Another thing too,
- 14:37David, Dress for Success is a partner and goes hand in hand with a
- 14:41new initiative that our Putnam Chamber network of women started this year called the Comeback
- 14:45Club. And what the Comeback Club is is it is an initiative to connect
- 14:48women to the resources available to them as they need to re enter the workforce.
- 14:52So there's anyone out there that has been out of the workforce and has
- 14:56a skills or has a gap on their resume and they're just looking for some
- 15:00help because they're not getting any interviews, have them give us a call at
- 15:03the Putnam Chamber and we can get them set up with employers, we can
- 15:07get their resume updated, get them clothing, and connect it to some of
- 15:11our partners like Dressed with Success and the Core program at Marshall and a couple
- 15:16of the really great programs that are going on out there that can really help
- 15:20them get back to work quickly give us your contact information or people want more
- 15:24information, Ashley, absolutely give us a call at the Putnam Chamber office our
- 15:28number three oh four some five seven sixty five one zero, or they can

- 18:56gala with a masquerade theme. That's Thursday night. Lisa Hunt is with the
- 19:00show and she joins us. Now, Lisa, good morning, welcome to
- 19:03the show. Good morning, thank you for having me. This is just
- 19:06one of those big events Lisa, that Charleston looks forward to every year and
- 19:10it's back again. Yes, it's a great way for everybody to come in
- 19:15and see all the different manufacturers in one site with no pressure. So we
- 19:19love for people to be able to come out. And I mentioned the gala
- 19:22on the Thursday evening. I think proceeds are going to benefit Good News Mountain
- 19:25near Garage just as always one of those highlights of the year around here as
- 19:29well. Well certainly. I mean it's a great way to preview this show,
- 19:33have everybody come out or you know, raise some great money for a
- 19:37good you know, a good cause. And as for the show itself,
- 19:41Lisa, it sounds kind of cliche to say this, but it is bigger
- 19:45and better than ever. It really is. Yes, I mean we've added
- 19:48some extra things. Not only do we have the cars there, we also
- 19:52have motorcycles, RVs, ATVs, boats, So just to give everybody a
- 19:56little bit of something and One of the things I like about too is that
- 20:00you can go and yeah, you can see the dream vehicles. You know,
- 20:03you've always got your vehicles that the working folks can only dream about having
- 20:07one day and classic cars, but there's actual vehicles there that normal people drive
- 20:12too, that everyday people you know, pick up trucks and just irregular sedans
- 20:18and vans and things that people drive on a regular basis. It's an opportunity
- 20:21to take a look at those as well. Oh, certainly, and you
- 20:23have knowledgeable staff there that can go over all the features and benefits. I
- 20:27don't know about you, but when you get a new vehicle, a lot
- 20:30of times there's so much in there anymore that you need somebody to be able
- 20:33to help you, you know, learn all the things that you can do,
- 20:34because when you can see those conveniences, it's just amazing. So it's
- 20:37just great to have a knowledgeable staff there with no pressure, just being able
- 20:42to show you all the different things that the vehicle can do and what are
- 20:45some of the side things that are in addition to vehicles. Because I know
- 20:48every year they had certain displays they've had, you know, the best of
- 20:51the of the of the the muscle cars and things of that nature over the
- 20:56years, is anything anything special along those lines this year? So we will
- 21:00have classic cars, and we are going to have some ATVs and motorcycles.
- 21:06Sunday will be extra phone for the kids, so we'll have bounce houses and
- 21:11costume characters, fire engines and police motorcycles. So and for the big kids,
- 21:17Like I said, I mean playing with ATV's motorcycles. Tho. These
- 21:19tractors are always fun toys for us. So I mean it's just a little
- 21:23bit of something for everyone. Indeed it is. Again we're talking with Lisa

- 21:56another thing that I hear people talk about, Lisa when it comes to this
- 22:00is they like to go sometimes and look at the newest vehicles and don't necessarily
- 22:07be pressured with salespeople. And with all you know, my brother in law
- 22:11sales cars, so you know, I'm you know, big love to all
- 22:14of our auto dealers out there, but sometimes people do like to go and
- 22:17they like to have a chance to open them up, sit down without saying,
- 22:19Okay, I'm just looking at the new at the new Silverado, for
- 22:23example, I don't necessarily want to buy one. That's a draw that brings
- 22:26people in as well, right, And I know sometimes even for women,
- 22:32you know, they just want to be able to have some knowledge and be
- 22:34able to see everything, and especially moms are working people, I mean,
- 22:38anybody. But to be able to have all the vehicles under the same rooms
- 22:42so you can see the cargo space, the features, everything right there,
- 22:47the different models. It just makes it very convenient because it's all in one
- 22:49spot. And like I said, the staff that's there is there to answer
- 22:52your questions. They're not trying to push you into anything, but just want
- 22:56to help you be able to know more about the vehicles. A wonderful experience.
- 23:00I always enjoy the auto show. I like to be able to see
- 23:04if your golf clubs are going to fit in the back of a car,
- 23:07if you're gonna be able to put a stroller, if this car is going
- 23:10to hook up well for my Apple play. You know, just different things
- 23:14like that just make it nice. I mean, everybody wants to be able
- 23:15to see how the backup camper a camera is if we're going to be pulling
- 23:18a trailer. I mean, there's just different things that you're looking for in
- 23:22your vehicles. Everybody has something different that they're wanting and this gives them that
- 23:26the opportunity to see it. And what is a price for your mission?

- 25:10TEX says David Mayor Goodwin and council members want to be involved at international diplomacy,
- 25:15they should apply for a job at the US State Department and stop wasting
- 25:18city government time. Well, I mean again, the resolution was tabled,
- 25:22uh and it was brought up by some by some citizens, and so you
- 25:30know, if you if you see it as a waste of time, perhaps
- 25:33it was. I'm one that feels it was a waste of time. That's
- 25:34just me personally. Uh, but they have to address what is being brought
- 25:38up. So let me see Texas. Why did the mayor kick a citizen
- 25:45journalist out of the meeting? Nothing transparent about moving to silence a critic.
- 25:51I don't have any I was not at the city council meeting last night.
- 25:53I did watch it online last night, and I'm and I'm gonna be honest.
- 26:00I want to say I was shocked by what I saw, but I
- 26:03really wasn't because I suspected it was gonna happen. As I said, I
- 26:07had a conversation and kind of off the record conversation with a city council person,
- 26:11not Larry Moore, by the way, It's gonna be on the show
- 26:12a little bit later on another city council person last week, and they said
- 26:15it was coming. I mean, and and I hate that it turned into
- 26:21a Jerry Springer episode, but that's basically what it was last night, and
- 26:26it really it's very I mean, you know, Counsel with Pat Jones,
- 26:30if you go back and you can watch the video. We've been playing the
- 26:33audio from it all morning, and Counsel with Pat Jones is speaking about why
- 26:37it is that Charleston is being asked to get involved in an international crisis and
- 26:42people just start shouting him down. I mean, what the hell? This
- 26:45is not the way America works. Okay, there there is a sense of
- 26:51decorum that has to happen here, folks, and that's not it. And
- 26:55I think the mayor was completely right in what she did last night. I
- 26:57don't always agree with mayor a good one. Mayor and I known each other
- 27:00for years and we've gone ahead to add a couple of times. But I
- 27:03will say, you got add the coorum. I mean, you have to
- 27:06have some sort of decorum and having people shouting and things like that while a
- 27:10council person is trying to speak is not the way to do it. I
- 27:12blought her for what she did last night. Texas going back to the Municipal
- 27:17Auditorium, I may be wrong, says a texture, but isn't the Municipal
- 27:21Auditorium a registered historic landmark? Can it be torn down even though it's a
- 27:26historic landmark? I mean talking about tearing it down is a little bit,
- 27:30a little bit soon. Right now, We're gonna have to wait and see
- 27:33what happens on that But I don't know the answer to that question. Texas.
- 27:37When Charleston wins, Charleston going to get housing built that's not three hundred
- 27:41thousand dollars or more homes to low income multifamily building, says a texture Texas
- 27:51day. The protesters at Charleston City Council meeting are out of control. They
- 27:55must realize that this is America, not the Middle East. Thanks, says
- 27:59a tex TEXTA says strangely convenient that the municipal auditorium suddenly shut down days before
- 28:06a well known conservative and spiritual based speaker was set to host an event there.
- 28:11Text says, do we need the auditorium more than a swimming pool in
- 28:15the mall? Says a texture. Texter says America's lost two great patriots,
- 28:23country singer and songwriter Toby Keith and retired New York firefighter Bob Beckwith. He
- 28:29was the firefighter who stood with President Bush at Ground Zero on September fourteenth,

- 32:30that on the show yesterday. Charleston City Councilman from ward for Larry Mories Here,
- 32:35Councilman Morgan, morning, Welcome to the show. Good morning, Dave.
- 32:37Thanks for having still talking about the city council meeting last night, council
- 32:42opting to table the resolution calling for the ceasefire in Israel. It got so
- 32:46out of hand that the mayor had to clear the council chambers and and counsel
- 32:52when you gave it impassioned speech. And I'm paraphrasing greatly here where were those
- 32:58people when you, folks and others, we're out doing the work in places
- 33:02like the West Side. Explore your comments on that a little bit further.
- 33:06Well, like I know a few people had donated to the to the cause
- 33:10of when we had the gas leakage. With a gas outage, I mean,
- 33:14and we appreciate that, but it's been so many other incidents of like
- 33:16violence, and we're trying to get our neighborhoods saved. Like I said,
- 33:20we were trying to get a grocery store, we were trying to change the
- 33:22school name, all that stuff that was going on over there. We never
- 33:25see none of these people, and they only show up when it's benefiting them.
- 33:30And like I said in the meeting, as me being a city councilman,
- 33:34I am passionate about my neighborhood, but I'm also passionate about the city
- 33:37of Charleston and about everybody's struggle. And I can be passionate and be and
- 33:42be passionate for you too. In the same instance, council council member Beth
- 33:47Currents asked for a the tabled resolution to be brought back and said that the
- 33:52and again I'm kind of paraphrasing you, that the majority of people in Charleston
- 33:55wanted this. Has Has that been your experienced counselor, because again, I
- 34:00don't live in Charleston, but I work here. Here's at least six or
- 34:01seven days a week, and I know what I hear on the phones and
- 34:05what I see on the tax line. That's not what I have been hearing.
- 34:07But you're here in town, you live in Charleston, you tell me
- 34:10what it is is that people are for like de cease for her because nobody
- 34:14wants to see people being getting killed, as in kids and elderly people.
- 34:19We're all for that. We want the violence to end and that and what
- 34:22it is. I guess if a certain group, if you're not doing it
- 34:24the way they wanted to be done, they take it as an offense and
- 34:28that you don't care. That's not far from the truth. Like I'm people
- 34:31in the city councils were compassionate. I mean, majority of us, we're
- 34:36all for the peace. We wanted to stop. We want, we want
- 34:39it to end. But I guess it's a group. If you're not doing
- 34:42it the way they wanted to do it, they consider you not wanting or
- 34:45not helping. Do you think that the mayor did the right thing in clearing
- 34:49the council chambers last night? Yeah, because it got to the point where
- 34:52you were there, so you know, I was watching. So I mean,
- 34:53it's like City Council was supposed to be a civil spot and you should
- 34:58we follow the Masonic rules and you're not supposed to, you know, interrupt
- 35:00while you know why in session we had council members speaking and the people were
- 35:08screaming while he was talking. Counsel Pat Jones. It was at the end
- 35:12of the meeting where the council people get an opportunity to speak about something that's
- 35:15on their mind or to many times as Mayor and I talked about order to
- 35:19thank people for a certain projects. Then Counselman Jones was speaking and uh and
- 35:24and asking the question basically, why is Charleston City Council getting involved in international
- 35:29issues of why are we masked to do this? And and I mean,
- 35:32and it was it was, it was. It was pretty intense. So
- 35:36I mean, people screaming and yelling, and that's not how you change hearts
- 35:40and minds counseling. I mean, and then like, well, even before
- 35:43that, when we were doing like I had, I was going to think
- 35:45about saying yes to untabling the vote. So a few people started voting and
- 35:51a few people said no, and people started booing this that's for a roll
- 35:53call, yeah, a roll call vote. And I was, you know,
- 35:55because I had made it. I had talked to some people on the
- 35:58phone earlier that day and I was like, you know, I was gonna
- 36:00go say yes, you know, to untable it. And then when people
- 36:04start saying no and they start booming and screaming, I was like, man,
- 36:07this is I mean, it's it's this is not like I worked in
- 36:09a middle school and it's I've seen more decorum and a room full of middle
- 36:14school kids than in our city council last night, and it was it's just
- 36:17it's unbearable. I mean to think that, Dave me and you can agree
- 36:22to disagree. I can let you talk and I don't have to agree with
- 36:25it, but I'm not going to over over talk you scream and yell at
- 36:29you while you're speaking that's just that's is one of the most rudest things I
- 36:32can think you can do to people. Like everybody has a spot to talk.
- 36:35I will never cut anybody off, no matter you know. I'll let
- 36:37you speak and then maybe I'll come to a form that i can't say what
- 36:43I want to say. But I'm not going to cut you off a screaming
- 36:45at you and yell and called you names, and that's not it's not it's
- 36:46not right. They refer to you as a murderer. Well, the first
- 36:50meeting we had, the first time, when the first table, when the
- 36:53first table to unbuild, and they got our right and they were calling us
- 36:58murderers and blood was on our hands and all that, and that that hits
- 37:00hit me hard because if you've never come to my neighborhood and been through what
- 37:07I've been through, grew up what I've grown up, and seen what I've
- 37:08seen. I work every day in the school system to help kids and try
- 37:13to keep them off the path I've and I've lost kids to sinceless acts of
- 37:16violence, and I've seen I lost kids to the streets, kids to jail.
- 37:21And uh, when you say that a murderer to me, I mean
- 37:23that, and it hit my heart and that it been weighing on me ever
- 37:27since that that day they said that, and you don't know me, you
- 37:30don't even come to my neighborhood to see what we fight like. We've had
- 37:34stop the violence, block parties, we do, book bad giveaways, we
- 37:38do. I'm always in the streets, were always trying to talk to people.
- 37:42I got, Me and my friends, we always just trying to steer
- 37:44them in the right direction. For y'all to come in and just be like
- 37:47murderers and bloods on your hands. I mean, you don't even come to
- 37:52my neighborhood. You don't even understand. You don't even know what I've been
- 37:53through. You don't even understand what I've been through my life. You don't
- 37:57And just to say that to somebody that's that was just trigger and instdraumatizing to
- 38:00me. That's what you said. Again, we're talking to the councilman,
- 38:02Larry Moore. You you stated that last night that looking to and by the
- 38:08time that you got to speak, I think that the chamber had been had
- 38:12been emptied pretty much except for the council members and the media. Uh.
- 38:15But but you said to those people that I think at one point you said
- 38:19something to the effect of I wish they were still here so they could hear
- 38:22this. So I'm giving you the opportunity now in case they are listening,
- 38:24which I think they probably are. So what would you say to those people?
- 38:30Man, I'm just like we can we have to be able to agree
- 38:35to disagree, but we have to have a common groundhere. We can talk
- 38:37to each other and get things fixed. Because when you come in and you
- 38:39throw allegations at people and screaming, yell at people without knowing them or know
- 38:44what they've been through, you don't know their heart, and it's just it
- 38:47goes left and it turns people off. And I mean, the thing of
- 38:51it is, we're all for peace. We want peace. You know,
- 38:54you were upset about the letter that we sent to the Congress, but to
- 38:58our state senators, and they didn't like it because I guess the letter didn't
- 39:00have cease fire in it. But we want peace for everybody instead of coming
- 39:06back and just talking to us like you come in and yelling and scream and
- 39:09not all the group is like that, but you have a few that come
- 39:13just to cause the cause, cause havoc and it's just the way man,
- 39:17you it's the corem on how you just you had those situations and like me
- 39:22as being a marginalized person myself, man, and you do accusations at me
- 39:25and say things like that, you don't know what I go through it every
- 39:30day in my life. I go through stuff that some of these people can
- 39:31never imagine going through. And it's me being a city council member. I
- 39:37still deal with stuff that y'a wouldn't have to deal with ever in y'all's life.
- 39:39And to come to me and then call me a murderer and I mean,
- 39:43it's just and never spoke to me like I said, they don't even
- 39:45come to our neighborhoods, don't even live in our neighborhoods, and I mean
- 39:49we have events or in some cases they don't live in the state. Yeah,
- 39:52yes, And that's one things too. And I talk about that because
- 39:53I said, like last night, Counselman Mike Furrer was walking off the building
- 39:59and lady yell than him and called him a coward and he had voted yes
- 40:01on untabling it. And I was like, so, y'all just came just
- 40:06to argue and yell. You didn't even pay attention to what was going on
- 40:07in the meeting. And that's that's troubling too, because sometimes you align yourself
- 40:12with people that make it worse for your calls. Yeah, and I and
- 40:17I think it's a good point what you said is everybody once wants piece in
- 40:22that region. I mean most normal people do. But as I have a
- 40:27text to the show here and somebody said, what exactly is them passing this
- 40:30going to accomplish over there? If the city of charge, I mean,
- 40:34it's not like, as I said, they're going to get a piece of
- 40:37paper and go, oh, well, Charleston, West Virginia wants us to
- 40:38stop this? Yeah, I mean I don't know. I mean that's like
- 40:42I said, it's beyond me. And I mean, like if we do
- 40:45it, And I asked a question I wanted to ask the ask serious question.
- 40:47I said, like, what's the solution? Say, say we signed,
- 40:50we send a piece the cease fire letter and nothing happened. What's the
- 40:54next move? What's the solution? What's going to be the next move?
- 40:57And I mean I can't really hear anything, but we just get you that.
- 41:00I mean, like you got to have a plan. I mean,
- 41:01if plan A doesn't work and need a plan B playing C, D F.
- 41:05I mean they need to there's no plans just coming here. We just
- 41:07get to get yelled at well counseling more. I appreciate you taking time out
- 41:12of your schedule to be here. And by the way, congratulations because since
- 41:16I think since I've had you on the show, if you've been on since
- 41:19in or not you you were named assistant principal, yes, sir, at
- 41:22Capitol High School, So I don't think they could have got a better person,
- 41:25you know, I appreciate you to do that. Any final words before
- 41:30we before we cut you loose, because I know you got to get back
- 41:31to school. So any any final words that that that you'd like to to
- 41:37say, maybe to those who are disappointed that there the that it was table
- 41:42not taken back up last night, Well, I just want to say man
- 41:45as a city man, like I said last NK to meeting, I represented
- 41:49Ward four of the West side of Charleston, but I represent the city of
- 41:52Charleston and for us to make the city better, to get anything done,
- 41:54we have to work together. Sometimes you we have to be able to agree,
- 41:58to disagree, but to work together to come to a common ground.
- 42:00To fix issues and solve things. When we divide it, when nobody wins.
- 42:06When the family feuds, nobody wins. But we have to come to
- 42:08a piece a place of working together in the green stuff. Like I said

- 46:07Texas. Congratulations to Counselman More on his new job. I wish I could
- 46:10have viewed his impassioned speech, but the mayor kicked out the citizen journalist who
- 46:15was live streaming. Well, I wasn't there, and I watched it on
- 46:17the live stream, so again I don't know about this. I wasn't there.
- 46:22I watched it like a lot of you folks did on the on the
- 46:25live stream. I watched the entire thing, including his speech, which is
- 46:29why I reached out to Councilman More. Uh, text, said my guy.
- 46:35But for real, what would the letter do? Nothing? Nothing?
- 46:37It would do absolutely nothing. That's the whole point of this. Tex says,
- 46:44What rights is the legislature planning to take away from women this month?
- 46:47Stop the war on women? Says a Texter programming notes. Tonight, the
- 46:54leading four Republican candidates for governor will meet in a debate at Glade Springs.
- 47:00Patrick Morrissey, Macwarner, Chris Miller, Moore, Capita will all be there.
- 47:02It starts with five point thirty Hoppy Kerchival. We'll be doing the moderating
- 47:07and we will carry the audio of the debate at wv metronews dot com.
- 47:12So if you want to listen in now, Hopy's taking the day off.
- 47:15He's prepping for the debate tonight. Dave Wilson will be in the host chair
- 47:19today, but on this show tomorrow, we're going to continue to talk about
- 47:23this weekend's auto show at the Coloseuma Convention Center. Plus Brad McIlhenny is going
- 47:28to join us to give us a review of tonight's gubernatorial debate. I am
- 47:32looking forward to taking that in tonight's and this is really going to be their
- 47:37first debates. You know, they've had some forums and some discussions, one
- 47:42of those in Morgantown back in December. Attorney General Morris he didn't take part
- 47:45in. He is going to be in this one, and there's actually going
- 47:47to be several of these coming up from what I understand, and Hoppy will
- 47:52be moderating this one. Tonight. I am going to be listening intently tonight
- 47:55and then Brad and I will talk about it tomorrow. Texas Cities should send
- 48:01a letter to Hamas demanding that they unconditionally surrender to stop the violence that they
- 48:07started to begin with, says a Texter. Texter says Davi, this council
- 48:14meeting was as bad as Trump supporting Hamas because he didn't like the Israeli leader.

- 48:43members. Story posted at wv Metronews dot com this couple from Sissonville who were
- 48:51arrested and charged with child neglect. We all recall the story for allegedly keeping
- 48:57two of their adoptive kids locked in a chef have each posted bond two hundred
- 49:02thousand dollars apiece. In fact, Gene Whitefeather and Donald Ray Lance are the
- 49:08people here and they are charged with felony gross child neglect creating a substantial risk
- 49:15of injury. Now, we all heard this story going back to October,
- 49:21and we talked about it in length on the show here, and the neighbors
- 49:25said that they had repeatedly called CPS and nothing was done. Eventually, the
- 49:30police did get involved and they found these two adopted kids living in Squalor in
- 49:37a shelter and their adoptive parents. Whitefeather and mister Lance were taken into custody
- 49:45and that was in That was in early October. Now White Feather's bond conditions
- 49:52allow for her to be released only to home confinement, and the judge cheers,
- 50:00uh I guess, saying that she is considered to be a flight risk,
- 50:04whereas mister Lance is not. Stories posted about it at wv metronews dot
- 50:08com. Okay, I'm not gonna get into it. I'm not gonna get
- 50:16into a name calling thing here. But somebody says was a citizen journalist and
- 50:20it mentions the person's name. I If so, then removal is completely understandable.
- 50:24Since I don't I don't know. I don't know. Again, I
- 50:27don't get into citizen journalists, I you know, not a kind of do
- 50:30it the professional way. Uh. Well, I don't know. I don't
- 50:34know if you consider what I do professional here or not. I just have
- 50:36fun, That's basically what I do. But I don't know. I again,
- 50:39I wasn't there. I was watching the video like a lot of people
- 50:43were online. Uh. And and and it was it was just I was
- 50:50again, like I said earlier in the cheffe, I wasn't surprised at what
- 50:52I saw because because we knew it was gonna happen. I mean it was
- 50:57it was stated. Uh in my conversation with the city council person last week,
- 51:00they said that this was going to happen, that they were going to
- 51:04turn up the heat on this. Well it got you nowhere. As matter
- 51:06of fact, if you go back and you listen to my interview with counselman
- 51:09more, he was considering untabling the amendment. He was considering that until they
- 51:15started getting screamed at and called murderers and then the Again, I keep using
- 51:22the analogy of the Jerry Springer Show. Then the Jerry Springer Show broke out,
- 51:25so so yeah, and then the people, according to More County Counselman
- 51:31Moore, were yelling at people like Counselman Pharaoh who voted for it, who
- 51:37voted to untable it, and calling them shame. They didn't even know who
- 51:39the people were. And that's when you get into out of state people and
- 51:44things of that nature. So just a mess, just a mess at all.
- 51:47Tex says Dave. I'm currently at war with a family of squirrels in
- 51:52my attic, wondering if you could maybe put a word in for me to
- 51:53city council. Thanking you in advance on that notes we are going to go.
- 52:00Thanks again to Counselman Larry Moore from Ward four. Also to marry Me
- 52:05Goodwin for making a return appearance to the show today. Actually offered glance for
- 52:08the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce for stopping by, and also the folks on
- 52:13the West Virginia Auto Show as well. We're gonna spend a little bit more
- 52:15time on the show tomorrow talking about the Auto show. Plus again Brad mclhenny's
- 52:19going to join us to discuss the gubernatorial debates for the leading Republican candidates all
- 52:23at Glade Springs tonight five thirty. You can listen to the audio at wv
