- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the three OT where we talk all
- 0:04things Major League Baseball. Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate
- 0:10Reyes. It.
- 0:11All. Starts right now.
- 0:16Welcome back to the three OT presented by Sea Kick this
- 0:18episode 508 I'll be your host Kyle Korne.
- 0:20I'm here with my Co host Nate Reyes.
- 0:28Nate. This swag is here.
- 0:31Oh my goodness, ladies and boys and gents and gentlemen all the
- 0:39like. This is nice this.
- 0:43Peep the merch. Oh my, you're not watching on
- 0:47YouTube? Get it figured out please.
- 0:49Peep the merch. It's in.
- 0:53Here's the Gray one. We don't have the white 1 yet.
- 0:57Still on the way. The road.
- 1:01Look at that, The road. Oh my.
- 1:06The Road Uni. Swagger.
- 1:10Really. We got the curveball snap back,
- 1:13the don't go chasing. This thing, this thing might be
- 1:17the deal of the century right here.
- 1:19The green under brim, I mean, my goodness.
- 1:22Yeah, yeah, get my ugly mug close to the camera.
- 1:26About that. Look at that Sharp.
- 1:31That's nice. That's nice.
- 1:34It does come flat, Billy. You got to do a little work, but
- 1:37that's all right. That's how you know it's a good
- 1:39bill. It's going to stay.
- 1:43Look at us man, just upgrading new year.
- 1:46That looks good. That looks really good.
- 1:51That's about the only positive thing going on right now
- 1:53because. Pretty much.
- 1:55I mean, it's February. See much.
- 1:57It's February, which means, you know, there's going to be Major
- 2:00League Baseball played this month, but supposedly there is
- 2:04nothing, nothing going on. So much so that we're headlining
- 2:12this episode with the signing that happened multiple days ago.
- 2:17I'm just going to go ahead and out ourselves.
- 2:19People are going to. She can be transparent.
- 2:21That's why we're that's why we're here.
- 2:24We're we're headlining this episode with a deal that
- 2:28happened on Thursday for a 40 year old pitcher who will
- 2:33probably see the mound for half of the year when it's all said
- 2:36and done this year. So that's the state of free
- 2:39agency. But you know what, we're going
- 2:40to make it. We're going to, we're going to
- 2:41have a good time. We got a draft.
- 2:43Best believe there's a draft. We got a draft on deck.
- 2:46The people, the people are loving the drafts, man, I I'm
- 2:49not even going to lie. I love that they love it because
- 2:52I love it. I have a bone to pick with the
- 2:55with the people, by the way, on the results of the votes because
- 2:59I if if last week or if last episode, if last draft was not
- 3:04an indication that I just managed to wipe the floor and
- 3:10the people can see that, then I don't know.
- 3:12I don't know what what else. What are you saying occurred?
- 3:15What happened exactly? Well, I mean, I was just, I'll
- 3:18be honest with you, I was monitoring the results and now
- 3:22that I'm actually checking the poll on the IG story right now
- 3:25and it seems like a people caught some sense.
- 3:27So I think I'm in good shape, but I, we're, we're going to
- 3:29need to maybe address that later in the show because these,
- 3:33these, these polls should not be this close, especially when you
- 3:36look at last last draft. Anyway, let's just get right
- 3:40into it because I want to talk some, I want to talk some draft.
- 3:45I want to, I want to, I want to do some draft.
- 3:47I want to talk some draft, I want to win some draft.
- 3:52As I mentioned, Max shares are 40 years old in agreement on a
- 3:58one year, 15 and a half, $1,000,000 contract with the
- 4:01Blue Jays. Yeah, that's about it.
- 4:05So let's do this draft. No, look, so you've got a,
- 4:12you've got a 40 year old, you've got a 40 year old arm here who
- 4:17is more than likely going to be slotting in as your 4th or 5th
- 4:21arm in the rotation, Correct. Is that a fair assumption?
- 4:27Yeah, Gosman won. Brios 2.
- 4:32Basset 3. And then Bowden, Francis.
- 4:40Four Manoa and and Max Scherzer interchanging.
- 4:46I don't know if Manoa remains in the picture moving forward.
- 4:49I'm. Going to go ahead and take my
- 4:51chances with a a 40 year old Max Scherzer over an Alec Manoa.
- 4:54I said what I said. I'm not taking it.
- 4:56Back, I do concur, yeah, yeah, dude, I mean, look, we were we
- 5:08were on some of these teams about, you know, having zero
- 5:11movement, not doing anything. This is something this is
- 5:17something $15 million flyer. I don't know.
- 5:25I can't imagine too many, too many Canadians purchasing AA1
- 5:30year 18 to 21 start Max Scherzer jersey, but you never know.
- 5:40So good for the Blue Jays getting getting a little
- 5:43something that's available who it's out there.
- 5:47You think you're going to see more Manoa jerseys in this in
- 5:49the in the crowd this year, more shares or jerseys?
- 5:52I had more Manoa just because of like the carry over from a few
- 5:55years ago. Yeah, but you wouldn't want to
- 5:57be seen dead. In that jersey, right?
- 5:59You're not you're not going to rock that.
- 6:02It's tough. It's hard to say he's not.
- 6:04Yeah. He's just, it's been a big, big
- 6:06disappointment, big fall off. It's been rough.
- 6:11But I don't know, man. Like I can't be super negative
- 6:15about them making some movement, doing a little something.
- 6:20He's coming off a year Scherzer, that is where he made just nine
- 6:23starts, went two and four with a 395.
- 6:27Didn't make his first start of the season until June 23rd.
- 6:32Coming off of a surgery to repair a herniated disc, which I
- 6:37don't know if you've ever had that.
- 6:38I haven't had that, but that does not sound like a pleasant
- 6:42time. How does how do you get it
- 6:46unherniated? How does one get a hernia?
- 6:51How does a disc become herniated and how do you unherniate that
- 6:56disc? Probably a surgery.
- 7:01You just unherniate it. Just push it back in.
- 7:04Just push it back in that slot. I tell you what, I'm being on
- 7:10this side of 30. I'm learning.
- 7:12I'm quickly, quickly learning. We.
- 7:14Could learn about a herniated. No, no, no, no, no.
- 7:17I'm not putting that out there. I'm not putting that in the in
- 7:20the out there for that to to manifest.
- 7:24It's it's in the realm of possibility.
- 7:26I'm not putting that out there in the universe.
- 7:27What I am going to say though is being on this side of 30, I'm
- 7:30quickly realizing just how much your day can be thrown off the
- 7:36track. Sure.
- 7:38If you even have the slightest pain in your back.
- 7:41Sure. I mean, there, there are a few
- 7:45things that can ruin a day. I mean, you could be life could
- 7:49be good. You could have just gotten a
- 7:51bonus. The family's healthy, the
- 7:54family's happy. But I tell you what, if you wake
- 7:57up on the wrong side of the bed with a little bit of a tweak in
- 8:00the back, none of that matters Could set you back, pun
- 8:04intended. Nothing, nothing will do that to
- 8:08you like a, like a, some back pain.
- 8:12Unreal. So I feel for Scherzer, but you
- 8:16know, pun intended, he's not going to have that weight on his
- 8:19back that he has to really carry any sort of load.
- 8:25Because I, I don't think there's going to be much expectation.
- 8:27I mean, sure, if you're going to give a guy 15 and a half million
- 8:30dollars, there's there's some expectation that you're going to
- 8:32at least have to take the ball, which as we talked about, has
- 8:36been a little bit of a question mark with Scherzer given the the
- 8:39nature of his injuries the last last handful of years.
- 8:42But for him, your primary goals should just be to take the ball
- 8:47to stay healthy to to shore up the back end of that rotation.
- 8:53And if not, if nothing else, if, if, if you fall short on those
- 8:57goals, just be a presence in that, in that pitching room, be
- 9:03a presence in that clubhouse and, and, and teach these guys
- 9:09what they need to. I mean, you put Matt, you put
- 9:12Scherzer and, and Bowden Francis in the same room.
- 9:14I mean, that's a, that's a wealth of knowledge that he
- 9:18should be taken advantage of. And like I said it, if, if he
- 9:20goes out there and just falls flat and if the back just
- 9:23becomes an issue, if the, if the, the elbow starts barking,
- 9:27OK, then just be, be the Max Scherzer, the old Sage Max
- 9:32Scherzer that, that I'm, I'm certain he's capable of being.
- 9:35And you'll maybe you're not going to bring 15 and a half,
- 9:38$1,000,000 worth of value in that sense, but you'll still be
- 9:41bringing value, which I think is important for the Jays.
- 9:44Yeah, I mean, I think I got to give a little more credit to
- 9:50their offseason. Like if you run down the list,
- 9:55I'm not going to sit here and say that like Max Scherzer's the
- 9:58cherry on top, but the addition of Jeff Hoffman, which a little
- 10:04bit of back and forth on, on his physical, there were some teams
- 10:07that kind of backed off. So I'm interested to see if
- 10:12teams were correct or incorrect about that.
- 10:15If he does stay healthy though, I think we could be looking at
- 10:18this at the end of the year as a very, very underrated move.
- 10:21Sneaky good AD the trade of Andres Jimenez, Anthony
- 10:27Santander, Max Scherzer. I think there's a lot of there's
- 10:35a lot of teams around the league that would be fairly happy with
- 10:38that offseason. Well, let's not forget they've
- 10:40got, call it two weeks. I, I, I believe Vladdy set a
- 10:45deadline. He, he essentially informed the
- 10:48team. Look, I think you've got, I
- 10:49think what he said was that you've got until the start of
- 10:54spring trip, pitchers and catchers like the 17th, I think
- 10:56was the date he gave. For an extension.
- 11:00To get to make an extension happen.
- 11:02So if they're done, if they're done externally, they still may
- 11:08not be done internally. So I mean, if you could, if they
- 11:10could somehow, which I again, I don't think it's going to
- 11:13happen. I don't think Vladdy wants to be
- 11:14in Toronto anymore. I've, I've been saying that for
- 11:17a, a number of weeks and months now even at this point.
- 11:19But if if for whatever reason you're able to make something
- 11:25work, bring locking in Vladdy for however long.
- 11:30Going back to your point of this being.
- 11:33A. A respectable offseason.
- 11:35I think that that would hold true.
- 11:36I I mean, I think it holds true now, but if you can lock in, if
- 11:39you can lock Vladdy, get. That done, this is a this is an
- 11:43A minus offseason if you if you lock him down long term.
- 11:48And let's not forget. A minus on that.
- 11:50Let's not forget name we talked about recently, Boba Shet if he
- 11:53has a bounce back like the the Blue Jays.
- 11:56I know we've sort of waffled on them a little bit this
- 11:59offseason. Given we haven't pancakes,
- 12:00that's for sure. It's definitely been more waffle
- 12:03than pan. Yeah, definitely more waffle
- 12:04than pancake, but it it was just one of those scenarios where
- 12:07they're just trying to throw money at anybody and everybody
- 12:10and they're finally starting to get their feet on the ground and
- 12:12starting to catch a little bit of traction in that in that
- 12:14sense. So yeah, I mean, when it's all
- 12:17said and done, once Opening Day arrives, we could be looking at
- 12:21this as a as a very the momentous offseason for the Jays
- 12:26and and their immediate future. You got to have you got to have
- 12:29things go right. They got to have things go right
- 12:32to compete in the at least you got to have Gosman be back in
- 12:37that Sion conversation like he has the stuff to do.
- 12:40You got to have brios be what he's got to have one year where
- 12:46it was like, all right, this was worth it.
- 12:48This trade was worth it. Bassett at this point is just
- 12:53got a chew innings. You have, you know, one more
- 12:58Goodyear out of George Springer. Like, there's certain there's a
- 13:01lot that needs to go, right? But it's not like crazy to see
- 13:08it happening. It's not crazy to consider that
- 13:10this team could compete. Not to not to steal any Thunder
- 13:15from our, our upcoming Hot takes and predictions, our annual Hot
- 13:19takes and Predictions episode. But given the state of the
- 13:22offseason for the Blue Jays that we're talking about right now
- 13:24and sort of dissecting if this was it, say the Vladdy extension
- 13:29doesn't happen, which really doesn't hold much relevance to
- 13:33this question anyway. But where, where do you slot the
- 13:37Jays in at this moment? If if the season started
- 13:40tomorrow, if the rest of the American League East is has done
- 13:43what they're going to do and not another move was made, which I
- 13:46don't think is the case elsewhere in that division.
- 13:49I think some there's maybe some trades that could trickle in and
- 13:53then obviously there you still got some elite names out there
- 13:56free agent wise, they could find their way to the division.
- 13:59But if it started tomorrow, where do you slot the Jason?
- 14:06Above the race, I think the offense will be better than what
- 14:11the race currently have going on.
- 14:22I think they're pitching right now, looks to be in better shape
- 14:26than the Orioles and if you have bounced back years, if you had
- 14:34good, good years out of that offence, I think that I think
- 14:38the Jays offence could compete with an Orioles offence.
- 14:44But I think I still give the edge to the youth, so I'm going
- 14:47to give him the four spot. That's yeah, I was.
- 14:50I was kind of flirting with that third spot, but I'd even though
- 14:59I'm I'm down on on Baltimore's pitch rotation specifically
- 15:03right now, I still give the advantage.
- 15:05I I think that line up can still.
- 15:08They can still bang and those guys aren't even in their prime
- 15:10yet. Yeah.
- 15:11So yeah, I think right now they're slotted at 4, but.
- 15:16Like I think there's a significant gap between 4:00 and
- 15:195:00, right? A tighter gap between 3:00 and
- 15:224:00, but that. This whole this whole scenario
- 15:26is based on if the season starts tomorrow, if you somehow make
- 15:29something happen for Alonso, if. Bregman.
- 15:33Or if you go out and if if the the waiting game between
- 15:37Bregman, the Red Sox and even the Astros and throw the Tigers
- 15:40and that makes it that if that all goes stale and the Blue Jays
- 15:44sweep in and and grab Bregman. Or, like I said, Alonso.
- 15:50Yeah, we can start having a more serious conversation about.
- 15:52I think we're comfortably looking at the bare minimum.
- 15:55They're in the division. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:00Interesting place to be, but the, the, the Scherzer move, it
- 16:05got me thinking and I put, I put out a, a TikTok on it actually,
- 16:10and was received shockingly well.
- 16:12I, I mean, I'd, it was just a thought that I had that I wanted
- 16:15to, you know, put out into the universe.
- 16:18But people seem to. Hanging out.
- 16:20Hanging out in the driver's seat.
- 16:22Hanging out in the car on my lunch break.
- 16:25But the thought that I put out there as I was thinking.
- 16:29Eat alone in your car. Oh yeah, dude, it's glorious.
- 16:33Have you ever done that? All the time I just.
- 16:36I just thought I was the only one.
- 16:38You you set your phone up, watch a show.
- 16:40Absolutely. Nobody's bothering you because
- 16:43nothing is. Delightful.
- 16:45Nothing is worse than taking your lunch break and you're
- 16:48clearly sitting at your like if if you are eating at your desk,
- 16:51you're sitting there, you're very clearly eating lunch and
- 16:53people come up to you and they're like talking, talking
- 16:56projects and and to. Do list.
- 16:57I'm like no like did you see that e-mail?
- 16:59Like no I didn't. No because of my car.
- 17:03I'm looking at the sandwich actually, but yeah, the car.
- 17:06Low recline after you, after you crush the Sammy.
- 17:10Quick little power nap. Turn the show up a little bit or
- 17:13turn it down for a little nap. Good for you.
- 17:15I thought I was alone in that camp.
- 17:17Makes me feel better. No, you, you and I like no, but
- 17:22the thought that I put out there as I was thinking about the
- 17:24Scherzer acquisition and I, I was thinking in the same vein.
- 17:27The the recent Verlander one year deal.
- 17:30I'm sitting there going, we're looking at a time that is
- 17:36rapidly approaching where the top 10 strikeout leaders list
- 17:41like all time. We'll be frozen in time forever.
- 17:48Because as it stands right now, you're going to have, you're
- 17:51going to have Verlander and Scherzer.
- 17:54And I mentioned in the video like it's, it's one can assume
- 17:57that these guys are just going to ride out one year deals for
- 18:00as long as teams are willing to pay them and as long as they're
- 18:02willing to pitch because they've had their, they've had their
- 18:05history of injuries. And, and you know that even if
- 18:08guys feel as though they're capable of, of continuing their
- 18:10career, they don't want to, they don't want to push their body to
- 18:13a point where it's going to affect their long term health
- 18:16and, and quality of life. So it's very possible that even
- 18:19if a guy like Scherzer or Verlander feels as though
- 18:23mentally he would, he would be capable of, of continuing that
- 18:27physically. They just don't want to do it.
- 18:28So you. Imagine you're younger.
- 18:31Yeah, yeah. But I mean, you can imagine that
- 18:33those those two runs will be ending rather shortly.
- 18:38But as it stands right now, they're going to be sort of
- 18:41duking it out to see who finishes 10th.
- 18:44And then after that, you've got Kershaw, who let's just go ahead
- 18:50and assume is not going to crack the top ten because, I mean,
- 18:54we've been talking about potential retirement for Kershaw
- 18:56for the last. Yeah, it's just body wise.
- 19:01Body. I don't think he gets to 40I.
- 19:05I don't even think he gets to 38.
- 19:07I mean, people were talking about his retirement after the
- 19:102020 title, like, oh, what a way to go out.
- 19:13And here we are heading into the 2025 season.
- 19:17So let's just go ahead and say that that that's not going to
- 19:19happen. And then after.
- 19:20Currently sitting at 21 with 2968 strikeouts so he's in 21st
- 19:27place for that. And then after that you've got
- 19:30Sale who's 35. He's 49th on the list at, at
- 19:342414. So I mean, if you get, say he
- 19:41goes to 40, which I don't think he is, because if you recall,
- 19:45he, they, they were asking him after winning the Cy Young that
- 19:49he, he was close to retiring, like he was on the verge of
- 19:52retiring before deciding to come back and you got to go and he
- 19:58goes out and wins a Cy Young. So even if you got one or two
- 20:01more years of dominance from Chris Sale like we've seen in
- 20:03years past, I'd, I'd, I don't see that stretching until he's
- 20:0740. So sales not really an option.
- 20:10And then after that, Garrett Cole is the really it.
- 20:13That's that's really it. Yep, Yep.
- 20:16Charlie Morton is next. Just 82nd he's 40 Lancelin after
- 20:22that 37 you Darvish 37. They're way down there.
- 20:26They barely crack 2000 strikeouts.
- 20:30You're right, dude. I mean, I do think it really
- 20:33depends on next year's health and how many starts they're
- 20:38going to make. I wouldn't go.
- 20:41You can't chalk these guys up for 200 strikeouts a year
- 20:44anymore. But if if Verlander can can
- 20:50sneak 120 a 140 strikeouts, he moves into like a very much
- 21:00safer 8th place, you know what I mean?
- 21:07And then Scherzer can potentially sneak into 10.
- 21:09So you may see a point where like a a Walter Johnson from the
- 21:13nine spot is bumped out. But yeah, I I can't go Kershaw.
- 21:19I definitely can't. Garrett Cole is a is a maybe.
- 21:24He is definitely a more of a strikeout pitcher.
- 21:27I still feel like he kind of holds on to that like old school
- 21:31starter mentality that he wants to go as long as he can in
- 21:34games. He's 33.
- 21:37I mean, these are all these are all maybes, but when I was
- 21:39looking at this list, I'm like Garrett Cole of the options
- 21:42available, seemed like the the most certain.
- 21:48I feel like he gets there. I feel like he gets the 3000
- 21:51strikeouts. I just don't know if he gets in
- 21:58the top 10. I mean, because even if Gerrit
- 22:00Cole pitches till he's 40, that's what, 6-7 years?
- 22:06Let's chalk him up for 170 strikeouts over 8 years.
- 22:12That's 1360. So 1360 + 2251.
- 22:18I guess over almost 3600 strikeouts that would be.
- 22:22Which would put him on the back end of the the top there or the
- 22:25the bottom half range of the top. 10678 range.
- 22:29Yeah, so I. I think he could get in there.
- 22:33And that might those those number, those estimates may be a
- 22:35little ambitious, but I mean, even an even a notch down, I
- 22:38feel like he safely gets in. But the great, the bigger
- 22:42picture here is just that with the the way that the game is
- 22:45changing, it's going to be interesting to see what other
- 22:49statistical categories get locked in because wins who I
- 22:55mean, say, say what you will about the statistical category
- 22:58of wins, it's, it's rapidly losing value if it hasn't
- 23:03already lost complete value. Like I just it it, it doesn't
- 23:06matter as much as it used to and it it makes sense as to why
- 23:10that's the case. But you look at wins not being
- 23:13much of a factor, you look at. I'm I'm looking at this hits
- 23:19list, I don't think that's moving.
- 23:22Where are we? I don't think it's moving.
- 23:24Where are we at on the hits list?
- 23:26Brother, the only the closest active hits list guy is Freddie
- 23:34Freeman in 164th place. That's insane.
- 23:40After 15 years in the league, he's currently 34 years old.
- 23:46A little over 2200 strike, 22 hits.
- 23:49Sorry. 2200 hits. Jose Altuve down to 177 on the
- 23:53list. He's 14 years in the league.
- 23:56Andrew McCutcheon is 208th on the list.
- 23:59Albert Pools was the last to he's literally 10th.
- 24:02He was the last to crack that top ten list.
- 24:04And that, yeah, I don't, I don't think that game's that list is
- 24:07changing and. I think, I don't think it's
- 24:09changing like the the mentality of giving guys a shot has
- 24:13drastically changed to where it's let them let them get in
- 24:17the league earlier. Let's sign these guys to a
- 24:22younger cheaper contract at 222324 years old.
- 24:29And then at that point the way the league is going, like most
- 24:35of these guys aren't going to hit a big time contract at 33
- 24:42whenever that first contract expires.
- 24:45Like I just, I don't see much value happening around a 34 to
- 24:5337 year old hitter enough to where they can stay in a lineup
- 24:57and have the opportunity to get 100 and 4000 and 50 knocks in a
- 25:03season. Like those days are just gone.
- 25:06Those guys have quickly become role players or they're still in
- 25:12the line because they have some pop left and they're not rolling
- 25:16out 150 a 160 hits anyway, right?
- 25:19You're hoping for 2530 home runs out of those types of guys, IE
- 25:25Paul Goldschmidt, right? Like you're not looking at these
- 25:28guys to put up hits there. I mean, and, and much less
- 25:32playing. Look at the top ten dude.
- 25:35Just I'm not going to go names. I'm just going to tell you the
- 25:37number of years, number of seasons these guys had to play
- 25:40to be in the top. 1024 Seasons 24 Season 23/22/2020 Seven
- 25:47seasons 21/23/22 years in the league you're Those days are
- 25:54done, the league you get. Younger and you're, you're
- 25:57seeing these guys get shipped out the the turnover is going to
- 26:01become much more. 100%. You're not going to see guys
- 26:04play into their 40s. The two names that I'm looking
- 26:07at here that have that played less than 20 years was Ichiro.
- 26:14He played nineteen seasons. Rod Carew, Lou Brock, 19 seasons
- 26:19Wade Boggs, You're talking guys that are in the 20s to 31st
- 26:23ranking in the overall hit category.
- 26:26The hits list is toast. It's done the not just that
- 26:32aspect, but at the way the game is valued in the way they get
- 26:36the way the home run in the. The three outcomes have have now
- 26:40affected the hitter's approach. Strikeouts don't matter to a
- 26:46hitter anymore. That hit list is 100% being
- 26:50untouched. Well, what about this name?
- 26:53What about that name? People ask in the comments on on
- 26:57this TikTok that I'm referencing.
- 26:59I'm seeing a lot of people throughout the name like there's
- 27:01a there's a comment here. Paul Skeens is our last hope.
- 27:04Terex, Google's name I saw thrown out there.
- 27:07Spencer Strider. Look, the issue is phenomenal
- 27:11pitchers, great power punch out, strike out type pitchers.
- 27:16The issue is Spencer Strider, for example, already 2 Tommy
- 27:20Johns under his belt. I, I would never wish this upon
- 27:25him, but a guy like Paul Skeens, you, you have to imagine that
- 27:28he's more than likely not going to make it through his entire
- 27:30career unscathed in that regard. So you combine that with the
- 27:34fact that with, with multiple facts.
- 27:37One, these guys are not going to be pitching into their 40s
- 27:40because again, the game's getting younger.
- 27:42The turnover at that stage and and guy's careers is, is going
- 27:45to, I would have to imagine begin sooner, begin earlier.
- 27:49So you're not going to necessarily see these guys reach
- 27:52that stage of their careers. And then additionally, the way
- 27:57that the game is evolving, you're going, you're, you're not
- 28:00going to see guys unless Major League Baseball steps in which
- 28:05they, we, we talked about it what a couple months ago, how
- 28:09we're, they're, they're proposing the idea of setting
- 28:12inning minimums for starting pitching.
- 28:14As it stands right now, though, with the way that the game
- 28:17values starting pitching, it's not the highest it's ever been.
- 28:20It's probably the lowest it's ever been as as we see starters
- 28:25go shorter and shorter into games.
- 28:28As good as these guys are, like a skiing, a scooble, so on and
- 28:32so forth. Even I I saw Wheeler and Nola
- 28:34mentioned in there as well. As good as these guys are, they
- 28:38they're just not going to be able to amass the body of work.
- 28:42And it's not because of anything that they've done.
- 28:44They could go out and throw. They could go out and and reach
- 28:46their quote, UN quote pitch like their innings limit that their
- 28:51friend that their respective team has set for them, say like
- 28:54they they come in and say, Scoobs, we only want you going 7
- 28:58Skiing's we only want you going sixth in the third.
- 29:02Even if they reach that mark every single time, they're not
- 29:06going to have they're they're just not going to have the
- 29:09length of career that would allow for those types of numbers
- 29:12to help them reach those marks. So again, sort of big picture
- 29:17here, putting a bow on it. The the strikeout top ten list
- 29:22is is soon going to be locked forever and people say, well,
- 29:26everything is slick, cyclical, sure, but it it I would imagine
- 29:34it's not going to be once once we sort of reach the end of this
- 29:36list of names that we talked about, you know, Verlander, not
- 29:42Kershaw necessarily, but a guy like Eric Cole.
- 29:44Once we reach the end of that list, it's it presumably is not
- 29:47going to be changing in our lifetime.
- 29:49Even if it even if the game does evolve comes back to, you know,
- 29:54valuing guys like this, it's not going to be in our lifetime.
- 29:56So for all intents and purposes, lists such as this you
- 30:00mentioned, the hits list some other statistic statistical
- 30:03categories not going to be changing.
- 30:05Yeah, I mean, like, it's just the way the game, it's the way
- 30:08the game shifts. It makes me wonder what's crazy.
- 30:17I feel like the most reachable top ten list is home runs
- 30:22because of how valued it is. It's kind of like in the NBA,
- 30:25how valued the three-point is. Like the three-point top ten
- 30:30list. I would, I, I'm not even going
- 30:33to look it up, but I would guess there's a lot of names that are
- 30:36in that category that have all been within the last 1520 years
- 30:42of, of playing in the NBA. So majority of the names on that
- 30:45top ten list are in that category.
- 30:48So I think that there could be if you're going to continue to
- 30:50see baseball valuing the home run, yeah, I would say that list
- 30:57is probably the most reachable compared to some of these
- 31:02others. You know who the closest active
- 31:04player is on that list to crack in the top ten in home runs.
- 31:09Without looking active player. Active player.
- 31:23I'm trying to think, I feel like it's a.
- 31:28Is it like an obvious one? Yeah.
- 31:34Yeah. But I mean, I, I could see like
- 31:36I could see somebody overlooking this as they look to maybe more
- 31:40quote UN quote obvious names. Trying to think of like older
- 31:45hitters older. I'll give you a hint, he's on
- 31:51the outside of the top 50 looking in.
- 31:55That's outside of the top 50. That's where we're at with,
- 31:58with, with that pursuit. Outside of the top 50, I don't
- 32:06know why I'm struggling with this.
- 32:08I don't Nah. He plays for your team.
- 32:15Stan. Giancarlo Stanton, at age 3415
- 32:19years in the league, has 429 home runs, currently sitting at
- 32:2351st on the all time home run leaders list.
- 32:28Yeah, I think he broke in late though, didn't he?
- 32:37Well, 15 years. He was 20.
- 32:45Yeah. After that, after that, you got
- 32:47Mike Trout. Yes.
- 32:48I mean, it's, it's really interesting to see.
- 32:52I was going to say Mike Trout, by the way.
- 32:53That's where I was leaning. Yeah.
- 32:55It's just interesting to see how some of these lists are going to
- 32:59be locked in for some time because it is as likely is it as
- 33:05likely as it is that the home run leaders list could change
- 33:09sooner than say some of these other stats.
- 33:13You have to, you have to remember pitching is getting the
- 33:18like pitching is getting more difficult for hitters, like it's
- 33:23becoming more of a challenge. It's becoming better, it's
- 33:25becoming faster and and the league is having to make
- 33:29accommodations. You know, we, we go a few years
- 33:32back, they were throwing out the idea of shall we move the mound
- 33:35back, things like that. So as as good as these these
- 33:39hitters are, as as the like the as impressive of feats as we're
- 33:45seeing from these guys, balls getting hit harder, farther
- 33:49pitching is also improving. It's also trending upwards.
- 33:55So you know, all that to say, sort of rant over.
- 33:58But it's it's just interesting to see to see how the evolution
- 34:02of the game is affecting the trajectory of potential history
- 34:06being made. That's all.
- 34:07Yeah, going back to that home run conversation real quick, I
- 34:10was looking at Juan Soto just like I was like, let's grab a
- 34:16young hitter who we know has hit a decent amount of home runs,
- 34:20currently at two O 1. So he's averaging 35 home runs a
- 34:24year. So I was like, even if we keep
- 34:27that average and we give him 12 more years because he's only 25,
- 34:31let's give him 12 more years of averaging 35 home runs a year,
- 34:35which is crazy. That would give him 6/21 at the
- 34:40end of his career. Which would put him 8th behind
- 34:47Ken Griffey, which is, which is extremely impressive.
- 34:56But even then, like, you're just cracking the top ten, basically.
- 35:00Yeah, Yeah. Wow.
- 35:02Anyway, enough top ten talk. I I just wanted to dive do a
- 35:08little bit more of a deep dive into that that TikTok I put out,
- 35:10which by the way, get a little more active on TikTok.
- 35:13So a little shameless plug for that if you're.
- 35:15Not you're still following that. Go head up to TikTok.
- 35:18Nate and I were actually just talking before we hopped on.
- 35:20I think we're going to we're going to sort of make some
- 35:23tweaks to the type of content we're putting out there.
- 35:25We're we're finding a little bit of a groove on on things that we
- 35:30want to put out there. So be on the lookout for some
- 35:32unique content that you're not going to necessarily find here
- 35:35on the podcast. But what you are going to find
- 35:39on this podcast are some drafts. But before we get to that, but
- 35:48but before we get to the drafts, we got some quote.
- 36:22All. Right, buddy, this is tough.
- 36:29This is tough. New whiteboard.
- 36:33No. Same one, same one.
- 36:35Didn't make the return. Nah, wasn't worth it.
- 36:39It was like $5. I'm going to give you a little
- 36:42context with this quote, and then I'll give you the episode
- 36:48and year after the quote. This is wild.
- 36:53We were talking. I'm going to turn this into,
- 36:56sorry not to interrupt, What's the what's the jeopardy?
- 37:01I'm going to turn this into jeopardy.
- 37:02I'm going to write my answer. OK.
- 37:04And show it we were talking about top 25 under 25.
- 37:11I remember this episode. We're going Korea number one.
- 37:18I'm keeping that. Hold on, is this the quote?
- 37:21Yeah, OK. We're going Korea number one.
- 37:24I'm keeping that. But yeah, looking at it, I got
- 37:27to keep Bregman at 2:00 and then Ben attend Benintendi 3, so I'm
- 37:33bumping Walker Buehler. This is episode 41, January
- 37:4431st. 2019 Wow, you want to talk about aging like milk?
- 37:51Sending it back. Well, it's not our fault.
- 37:55I mean, that was just the state of baseball.
- 37:57Like Benintendi was a was a was a dude back in the day.
- 38:01Yeah. Oh my goodness.
- 38:03I mean, Bueller too. Wow.
- 38:05Yeah, dude, I you stumped me on this one.
- 38:10I mean, I know all of these are always coin flips.
- 38:12Because I noticed this was a short, this is a tough quote
- 38:15because there was so much back and forth during this
- 38:17conversation. And so I, I tried to kind of
- 38:22keep it. But yeah, I wanted to, I wanted
- 38:24to try a little little stumper out there.
- 38:29Wow. We're going Korea, number one.
- 38:31I'm keeping that. But yeah, looking at it, I got
- 38:34to keep Bregman at 2:00 and then Benintendi 3, so I'm bumping
- 38:39Walker Buehler. This sounds like a This sounds
- 38:44like a Nate quote. Ding Ding, Ding.
- 38:53And you said this was? This was 19, so this would have
- 38:59been when. Just to give you an idea, I, I
- 39:06if you want, I can kind of read through 'cause I have the script
- 39:10from from when we were reading it.
- 39:20Let me go back. Just just crazy to see some of
- 39:25these names and like us not being totally, totally in.
- 39:30So 25, Jose Peraza, 24, Brad Keller, 20.
- 39:45I think we kind of skipped past the names.
- 39:47I don't know. Oh, 23 was Shane Bieber, 22
- 39:54Yohan Moncada, 21 Josh Hader, 20 Ian Hap.
- 40:01God, Yohan Moncada dude, that's the name that keeps me up at.
- 40:03Night now it's crazy that he fell off.
- 40:06I would have loved for that to pan out. 19 was Harrison Bader.
- 40:1218 was Miguel and Duhar. 17 was Jack Flaherty, 16 Willy Adamus,
- 40:1915 Ozzy Alby's, 14 Matt Olson, 13 Alberto Mandisi, 12 Gleber
- 40:27Torres, 11 Jose Brios, 10 was Benintendi. 9 was Shohei. 8 was
- 40:41Juan Soto. OK, now we're we're catching a
- 40:44little steam here. 7 was Herman Marquez, 6 Bueller, 4 Correa, 3
- 40:53Bellinger, 2 Acuna, then one was Bregman.
- 41:01Wow, right. And if I if I recall, this
- 41:06wasn't our crafted list, right? Wasn't this in reference to like
- 41:10a this? Was like an actual yeah, it came
- 41:12out. I think it was like ML BS.
- 41:15It was ML BS post. Wow, isn't that crazy?
- 41:21Insane this. Is this is what our our topic
- 41:25for the episode so. I was the state of the state of
- 41:28baseball. Yeah, wild, huh?
- 41:33Look how quickly the game could change like names on that list.
- 41:37I don't think we really understood Ronald Acuna quite
- 41:41yet and we clearly weren't paying attention to Shohei
- 41:46enough yet because he he had come in.
- 41:48But like, we were still on that like Japanese Babe Ruth
- 41:52narrative or like, I don't know if we're ready to give him that
- 41:54yet. Rightfully so, but you know, he,
- 41:57he he made it happen. And look at look at the
- 42:00narrative now, you know. Yeah, that that's just a good
- 42:04reminder. We're not here to, we're not
- 42:05here to report. We're just here to react.
- 42:07We weren't, we weren't putting that list out.
- 42:09We were just responding to to what had been put out into the
- 42:11universe. That's right.
- 42:15Speaking of the universe, we've got quite a lot of names out
- 42:21there to pull from in this in this draft on deck.
- 42:28It is the rookies of the year drafts.
- 42:33I'm excited for this one dude. There's some, there's some dudes
- 42:39in this one. So for this draft, the Rookies
- 42:43of the Year draft, we're choosing from all previous
- 42:46Rookie of the Year winners, otherwise known as the Jackie
- 42:50Robinson Award winners. How are we doing positions?
- 42:57How do you want to do this? Do we just want to go like name
- 42:59for name or do we want to just like a traditional, traditional
- 43:06draft? Yeah, how do we do this?
- 43:12I, I feel like we just go straight up and you you can fill
- 43:16out. I mean, we, you'll still have to
- 43:17fill out a, a, a diamond for sure.
- 43:20But it there's no, we don't need like a, a randomizer or anything
- 43:26like that. You just kind of you got to fill
- 43:28it out. OK.
- 43:29Does that work? Yeah.
- 43:31As far as positions go, do we have to like put them in the
- 43:35position they played that year? I mean, we can leave it up for
- 43:40interpretation, but I mean, if if a guy's an outfielder, if
- 43:44he's sort of known as an outfielder, you stick him in the
- 43:46outfield. But I mean, we can, we can, we
- 43:49can leave it up to the chat, you know, like if there's a if
- 43:52there's something that's sort of up for interpretation, we can
- 43:57leave it to the chat. All right.
- 43:58So if we're going, if we're going traditional draft rules
- 44:03here style, I should say structure, fill out, fill out a
- 44:09line up. You got 3 outfielders for it.
- 44:11Is that how you want to do it? 3 outfielders, 4 infielders,
- 44:13pitcher, catcher and ADH. All right.
- 44:19And you won, didn't you? I did I I confirmed with the
- 44:23pole on the story and I was able to come out Victoria.
- 44:29So I'm back on top with that first pick.
- 44:34It's been a minute since I had that.
- 44:38In fact, I don't think I've had a first pick in these drafts
- 44:40since we started this recent round of drafts that we started
- 44:45a couple weeks ago. So this is new territory for me.
- 44:49But with that said, my first pick, oh, well, no, no, there's
- 44:58no way of knowing there. I was going to say the whole
- 44:59like war thing, top thing. There's no way of knowing, but
- 45:05my first pick is going to be none other than the say Hey Kid
- 45:20himself. I cannot believe you were going
- 45:22to do that. I cannot believe you're going to
- 45:25do that. That's so annoying.
- 45:28I cannot believe I'm getting swooped the first freaking pick.
- 45:32Oh yeah, because there's no talent left.
- 45:35You're right. I mean, the the rest of this
- 45:36list sucks. What are we talking about?
- 45:39Give me Willie Mays. I hate you.
- 45:43For my outfield, I mean, I think I just won the draft right
- 45:46there. I hate you.
- 45:52You're so annoying. I get back-to-back picks.
- 45:57Yeah. So, I mean, good, enjoy, enjoy
- 46:01having your second and third pick of these of these names.
- 46:04And I'll admit, like there's a lot of names to pick from the
- 46:07it's very possible we may overlook somebody.
- 46:09But I'm going to make sure I'm going to do my best to ensure
- 46:11that that doesn't happen, at least on my part.
- 46:14Yeah, I can't speak for you, but.
- 46:16I get back-to-back picks. Yeah.
- 46:20Snake draft Derek Jeter and Cal Ripken, junior.
- 46:24Wow. That's that's a solid start.
- 46:31Yeah, You know, is this your, is it the best start that you could
- 46:35have had? Absolutely not.
- 46:37Who just for just for clarification, are you going?
- 46:41Who's your first pick of those two?
- 46:44Jeter, just because it's me. Your Jeter guy.
- 46:47Yeah, Wow, what a fall off. I got to say Willie Mays to to
- 46:51Jeter. I think I think in terms of, I
- 46:54think in terms of first picks. Yikes.
- 46:58All right, I'm going to go with my next rookie of the year pick.
- 47:04I am going to go. Wait, So I why am I forgetting
- 47:19this? So I get back-to-back picks now,
- 47:20right? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 47:21OK. Oh boy.
- 47:23From here on out, it's just back-to-back picks.
- 47:26Is that how it's always been with these drafts?
- 47:27Why do I not remember being like that?
- 47:31Is that how we've done the last few drafts?
- 47:35Why does that not sound right? It doesn't sound right.
- 47:44Right. Am I crazy?
- 47:46That's it. This is what two person drafts
- 47:51does to you. It messes with your brain.
- 47:52No, hold on. Wouldn't we?
- 48:01What the heck? Help me out here.
- 48:05What? I don't think we always do.
- 48:06Back-to-back. Back-to-back pigs.
- 48:11Wouldn't it just be flip flop like back and forth?
- 48:14One would think. But we've done back-to-back
- 48:20picks in these recent. Drafts what?
- 48:22I feel like it makes sense for me to have back-to-back picks
- 48:24after the first pick, right? What is happening right now?
- 48:38Why like we've done back-to-back picks before, like the snake
- 48:42draft and it made sense, but why is it, why is it not clicking
- 48:46right now that what happened? Let me look at the last draft we
- 48:51did. I'll keep scrolling here.
- 48:56Oh, you know what it was? It was because it was a.
- 49:01It was a predetermined category, so you had to start the new
- 49:07category if you didn't the category before.
- 49:11So like for the state draft, you would start first on a state and
- 49:15then I would get to start. Does that make sense?
- 49:18Sure. Yeah.
- 49:22So like if if you like West Virginia, you started with
- 49:25George Brett. I went Bill Mazeroski.
- 49:26So I went second there, but then I started first on North Dakota.
- 49:30The next one. So technically, yeah, it's no.
- 49:35No, this because this is a traditional draft, we're only
- 49:38doing, we're all we're just alternating because there's no
- 49:42category. No, no, no, I, I think it just
- 49:45goes back and. I think it's back and forth
- 49:51after this. But why would you get
- 49:57back-to-back picks it it would just alternate?
- 50:01Now it alternates. I think you're making this up.
- 50:04I I am. Can we figure this out though,
- 50:09because this is, I mean, we're talking like the, the, the front
- 50:13of the draft here. So this is, this is important
- 50:15because I mean, this is where it's it's won or lost here now,
- 50:23dude, we're way overthinking this.
- 50:27It's just alternating. So you need to take off your
- 50:31Ripken pick. That's messed up man.
- 50:34No, because I got first pick. You get second.
- 50:37No, we're way over thinking this.
- 50:39It think about it like you're you're selecting a team in
- 50:42backyard baseball. You, you don't, you just you
- 50:44make a pick, the other team makes a pick, you make a pick.
- 50:46So we're way over thinking this. Am I?
- 50:48Taking Cal Ripken off because you're taking Cal Ripken.
- 50:52No, I haven't even thought about that.
- 50:54I'm I'm simply trying to figure out like.
- 50:56Which? Turn it is.
- 50:57I have thought about it, but that's not who I'm picking.
- 51:08Actually, no, you're right. I'm absolutely taking you're.
- 51:10Such a jerk. Dude, Cal Ripken with my second
- 51:13pick. Yeah, OK, so that makes me feel
- 51:17better. The only reason we're not doing
- 51:19snake draft is because there's not a predetermined category.
- 51:21We're just whatever, bro. This is traditional.
- 51:24This is traditional draft order. What a steal.
- 51:32Cal Ripken out of out of Nate's grasp.
- 51:35Just snatched. It's just, I think it's rude,
- 51:40but you do you. You do you.
- 51:56I want I want Albert pools. As.
- 52:03Your, I don't know, see, that's what I'm asking is like back in
- 52:06the days the left fielder. Well, OK, he's for this
- 52:11exercise. He's not a left fielder.
- 52:13He's either going to be your your infielder.
- 52:14Or your TH. I'll put it on the field.
- 52:20That's your second pick. I'm going to go with.
- 52:34I'm going to go with. My next pick will be.
- 52:51There's so it's like it's legit like ranking one A1B1C.
- 52:59One, it's like the whole thing one.
- 53:02Z Yeah. Man.
- 53:14You know what? You know what's encouraging
- 53:16about this list is that more, more than not went on to have
- 53:23great careers. Yeah.
- 53:26I mean, you're really only seeing a couple flops here.
- 53:29Yeah. Give me.
- 53:34Like Giovanni Soto in 2008, Tough, tough, tough year for the
- 53:42NL. That year, I guess, give me.
- 54:00Bro, the song's over this. Is tough OK, I'm I'm not going
- 54:05to overthink this. Give me.
- 54:18Give me Mike Trout in the outfield.
- 54:20You're so annoying with this. You're so annoying.
- 54:26Give me Mike Trout in the outfield.
- 54:28The amount Oh, I don't understand how you're doing this
- 54:32to me. Here's the thing.
- 54:56What's the thing? The reason it took me so long is
- 54:59because they're still just a list of names available, so it's
- 55:08not as if I'm just leaving you with scraps, OK?
- 55:13I have an A preset order in my head of what I like.
- 55:17You've got a draft queue. Yeah, I'm going to queue it up.
- 55:23Not to influence the jury by any stretch, but I.
- 55:28Mean, yeah, this is the only thing you do is influence the
- 55:33jury? No freaking time.
- 55:35Hey, you have every right to to to share your piece.
- 55:39I don't think that's legal. You have every right to share
- 55:41your. Piece.
- 55:41It should be put out blindly. No, no name attached to it.
- 55:45What does that matter? Because maybe there's some
- 55:49favoritism happening. Nate, the people love you.
- 55:52I don't know what you're talking about clearly, because if, if
- 55:55the favoritism exists, it it exists for you because I've I've
- 55:59lost all but maybe a couple of drafts since we've ever done
- 56:03drafts. Whatever, give me shohei DH.
- 56:07Yeah, I figured. Just because I did not think he
- 56:12was going to make it back to me. That was my plan.
- 56:15It was my child and Shohei. Give me, give me.
- 56:41Wow. Stacked.
- 56:44The 90s are stacked. Give.
- 56:52Me Eric Karos in 92 What are we doing .4 war?
- 56:59Give me Jackie Robinson on my infield.
- 57:02Sure. Not bad.
- 57:26Man. You have some classic names
- 57:29unfortunately. I sure do.
- 57:33I don't. I don't really.
- 57:38Yeah, yeah. Lacking a little bit there.
- 57:48Wow. I'll take he grows all right
- 57:54outfield. Putting him in your outfield,
- 57:59yeah. Where was the where was the what
- 58:07year was he 63? Where was the Where's the
- 58:14breakdown? What you mean?
- 58:19Positionally. Just positionally.
- 58:26I mean I know he was a first basic a decent amount.
- 58:30I just I was. Just like how much he played.
- 58:32I was just curious as he I can, why can I never find the
- 58:34positional breakdown? You just got to go down a little
- 58:37bit further. Standard fielding.
- 58:45Oh, that's right. Maybe I need to put him in.
- 58:53He's all over the place. No, I mean, I really don't care.
- 58:57You really could slot him in anywhere.
- 58:58I was just. Curious.
- 58:59You really could. So you put him in the outfield.
- 59:01Yeah, I'm putting him in the outfield.
- 59:03All right, so that's your 4th pick.
- 59:06My 5th pick I'm going to go. Some names on here.
- 59:28Give me Marty Cordova throwback Marty Cordova throwback name
- 59:36give. Me.
- 59:38What do I need? What do I need here?
- 59:41One outfield spot left, two infield spots left and your DH.
- 59:50And a picture. Give me man, I need.
- 1:00:22Give me, give me Johnny Bench behind the dish.
- 1:00:30Sure, sure. I don't like your dismissive
- 1:00:34tone. Too bad, deal with it.
- 1:00:42Good luck. Good luck searching for scraps
- 1:00:45behind the dish after bench. Yeah, Mike Piazza is a real bum.
- 1:00:51Well, I mean, you're talking about the greatest of all time
- 1:00:54to not the greatest of all time. So, comparatively speaking.
- 1:01:13Man oh man do I want to pull the trigger on some guys.
- 1:01:27You know, you know, it'd be interesting.
- 1:01:29And in fact, I'm going to do this just because you I, I made
- 1:01:33the note earlier about how more than not of this list went on to
- 1:01:38have great careers. I'm going to create, I'm going
- 1:01:41to, I'm going to list out the career wars that these guys have
- 1:01:46massed and see what the discrepancy is.
- 1:01:48I like that. I'd like to see the before and
- 1:01:50after or not before and after but results between the two.
- 1:01:58Shout out 2001 man, give me Ichiro in the outfield.
- 1:02:00Oh, good pick. Good pick.
- 1:02:04I'm not going to lie, I I don't even think I remember seeing him
- 1:02:08on here, No. Isn't that there's like a weird
- 1:02:10header? Yeah, separates 2001.
- 1:02:13That's what it was. Kind of makes you scroll past
- 1:02:15all. Right.
- 1:02:17So that's. 7.7 war that year, that's crazy.
- 1:02:23Dude, Mike Trout with a 10/5. Is nuts, yeah.
- 1:02:28Give me I've got this draft in a chokehold right now.
- 1:02:40I. Feel pretty good all.
- 1:02:49Right. Give me.
- 1:03:02Man, this is tough. Wally Moon.
- 1:03:09Now that's 1954. Bob Grimm and Wally Moon.
- 1:03:14Classic. Give me, I'm going to put.
- 1:03:46Give me, give me Bryce Harper on my infield all.
- 1:03:59Right. I was curious on when that name
- 1:04:04was going to go for you. That's my 6th pick.
- 1:04:11Give me Tom Seaver on the bump. Good pick, Good pick.
- 1:04:16I was. I was keeping him in the hopper
- 1:04:19just in case he felt too late, but that's a good pick up.
- 1:04:22So that's your 6th pick. It's already back to me.
- 1:04:26Give me, give me, give me Fernando Mania
- 1:04:50on the bump. OK, respect.
- 1:05:01What year was that? That was where'd he go 8181 a 5
- 1:05:12three that year, which I think it goes without
- 1:05:26saying, but I mean, we're taking these guys just like it's it
- 1:05:34goes beyond the scope of just a rookie year.
- 1:05:36Like, I don't, I don't expect anybody to judge this through
- 1:05:39the lens of like, oh, how they do the rookie year because.
- 1:05:45I hear you on that argument. Does that make sense?
- 1:05:47Sure, I'm going to hit you with a more recent name.
- 1:05:57Here you got pulling the trigger.
- 1:06:08Here, I think I'm going to pull the trigger.
- 1:06:10I'm going to put Aaron Judge in my outfield.
- 1:06:11OK, I mean, it's not your worst pick, so that's your 7th.
- 1:06:19All right, so we checking in here.
- 1:06:22I need an outfielder, an infielder and ADH.
- 1:06:28You need 2 infielders and a catcher.
- 1:06:33All right, so an outfielder, an infielder and DH.
- 1:06:35That's easy enough. Let's see what we got left here.
- 1:06:39Give me. You know what I'm about to do.
- 1:07:02Do you know what I'm about to do?
- 1:07:03What? Are you about to do?
- 1:07:14I'm I'm literally going to win the draft right here.
- 1:07:20You think, and you know why? Why?
- 1:07:26Because I'm going to pull out from underneath.
- 1:07:32You don't piss me off because I got somebody.
- 1:07:39I'm going to pull out from underneath you the
- 1:07:40aforementioned next best option for catcher, and I'm slotting
- 1:07:46him in my DH. I'm putting Mike Piazza.
- 1:07:49At my DH, that's fine. You're just out here playing
- 1:07:53games. That's.
- 1:07:54All I'm playing chess while you're playing checkers.
- 1:07:58That's fine. I'm going to put Frank Robinson
- 1:08:00in my infield. That's fine.
- 1:08:02Go ahead and put Buster Posey behind the dish.
- 1:08:05That's solid. What's wrong with Buster Posey?
- 1:08:08Nothing, right? Hey, no, no slander towards
- 1:08:10Buster Posey. But when we're talking about,
- 1:08:12when we're talking about Johnny Bench and Mike Piazza on the
- 1:08:15same team, A. Lot of slander.
- 1:08:17Speaks for itself. All right, so you're putting.
- 1:08:24Frank Robinson in the infield. So that leaves you with one
- 1:08:27infielder and a catcher. I need an infielder and an
- 1:08:30outfielder. Give me, I mean, I could.
- 1:08:35I'm playing with house money at this point.
- 1:08:39Let's see here. Who do I want to round out this
- 1:08:43team? That was a good pick, by the
- 1:08:48way. I don't know if I mentioned
- 1:08:49Frank Robinson. Thank.
- 1:08:50You. I had my.
- 1:08:51Own surprise there wasn't more respect thrown my way for that.
- 1:08:55No, no, for sure, for sure. I was just still riding high off
- 1:08:59the Piazza pick. Give me.
- 1:09:16Oh, oh, no, don't it. No, no, no, stop.
- 1:09:20You don't even know. You don't even know.
- 1:09:26Give me Rod Carew on my infield. Solid.
- 1:09:42You need an infielder and a catcher.
- 1:09:52I mean, look, I I don't want to gloat here, but do do I even
- 1:09:59need to put the graphic out? I feel what There's nothing
- 1:10:03wrong with this team that I've got.
- 1:10:05There's absolutely nothing wrong with what.
- 1:10:07There's nothing wrong with your team, but if you just look, look
- 1:10:12across the way here, I mean stacked I I had a 3000.
- 1:10:27Because you swooped 3 names from me that were absolutely going to
- 1:10:31be picked. I had a it's.
- 1:10:33All out just who went first? I had a 3000 hit guy and Rod
- 1:10:38Crew was my 9th pick. My second to last pick if that.
- 1:10:44If that doesn't win a draft I don't know what does.
- 1:10:46Did Rock Crew ever see timeout in
- 1:10:59the outfield? Barely 1978.
- 1:11:06It's all the time. Yeah.
- 1:11:09It's all the time, all right? All right, well, maybe just to
- 1:11:18buy myself a little bit more time.
- 1:11:21Oh, I'm back and forth between two names.
- 1:11:28I've just, just because of just because of the number of rings
- 1:11:38and success, I am going to put Buster Posey behind the dish.
- 1:11:43But Thurman Munson was a hard consideration.
- 1:11:49Cut short, you know. Yeah, I mean, I'm, I'm not going
- 1:11:51to lie, I feel like you got to, I got you got to play to the
- 1:11:53voter. And and while I'm sure there's a
- 1:11:57percentage of people that would appreciate the Thurman Munson
- 1:11:59vote. Yeah.
- 1:12:01I feel like you got to go recency bias here.
- 1:12:04So that's your 9th pick? My 10th and final pick, needing
- 1:12:10an outfielder, I'm going to go. I think I know.
- 1:12:22Do you? I'm going to go.
- 1:12:42Can I put him out there? Can I put him out there?
- 1:12:47Oh, shoot. Can't do it.
- 1:12:55You're trying to squeeze something in.
- 1:12:58Actually, no. If we're if we're following our
- 1:13:00rules, he is listed as such. Is that fair?
- 1:13:04It's cool. Give me with 521 career home
- 1:13:13runs, a Hall of Famer, an MVP and obvious Rookie of the Year
- 1:13:25or my final outfield spot. Give me Willie Lee Mccovey.
- 1:13:31Respect. My goodness, my goodness.
- 1:13:52Wow, what a day. This was all about who goes
- 1:13:56first. It really wasn't.
- 1:13:59It really was Willie Mays. Come on, you, I don't think you
- 1:14:07would have. Would you have gone cow pick #2
- 1:14:09if I didn't immediately go cow pick #2?
- 1:14:12Be honest. He was I'll I'll say this, he
- 1:14:17was not going to fall lower than three for me.
- 1:14:20He was either going to be my second or third pick.
- 1:14:23It was it was either going to be Willie and then maybe Trout and
- 1:14:28then cow, but he was not going to.
- 1:14:31He was not. I mean, it wasn't like I climbed
- 1:14:34the board to get him. He he was, he was going to be
- 1:14:36there one way or another for me. Yeah, it's going to be my
- 1:14:42second. And you knew that that changed
- 1:14:45the whole, but I don't. Want to hear?
- 1:14:46No, I don't want to hear the whole it's all about who went
- 1:14:48first when you literally went with Jeter as your first pick.
- 1:14:52Nothing wrong with that. There's nothing wrong with that,
- 1:14:54but like. The number 4 on the list of top
- 1:14:57ten hits of all time. I get it, but like. 5 readings.
- 1:15:04You could have made the argument.
- 1:15:05In fact, it's probably not I. Probably could have got them
- 1:15:07later. Yeah, like you could have, you
- 1:15:09could have went with like a pool holes for example off the top
- 1:15:13and that would have been a better fit I think for a first
- 1:15:18pick. But you went Jeter so.
- 1:15:21The whole drop off for the infield.
- 1:15:22The whole going first thing kind of goes out the window.
- 1:15:27Yeah, I just, I didn't think you were going to go Willie Mays.
- 1:15:29I didn't think you were going to Scroll down.
- 1:15:32I didn't think I was going to go Willie.
- 1:15:33Mays, I thought you were just going to get stuck.
- 1:15:35My goat. You didn't think I was going to
- 1:15:38go Willie Mays? I didn't.
- 1:15:49There's a bit of a drop off in the infield.
- 1:15:56Would you have snagged Mccovey if he was still on the board?
- 1:16:00Probably not, to be honest. Really.
- 1:16:02Yeah, I guess I just didn't really think numbers with
- 1:16:09Mccovey. I didn't really.
- 1:16:12Yeah, that, that's more because. That's like a surprise name that
- 1:16:14I don't think most people are like 521 home runs, you know?
- 1:16:19Yeah, that's going to be one of those picks where like if if you
- 1:16:22know ball, if you know ball, that's a good pick.
- 1:16:25But I I will admit there's probably there was probably a
- 1:16:28sexier pick I could have gone with probably, probably
- 1:16:32certainly sealed the deal, but. I don't think there's anything
- 1:16:35wrong with it. Oh man.
- 1:16:39Well, I guess there's not much point in holding out much
- 1:16:46longer. I still think I got a good team
- 1:16:48by the way, but I don't think I'm going to get too much love
- 1:16:53for it. Let me just confirm.
- 1:16:55I don't think I'm going to get a ton of love for it because I I
- 1:16:59liked him. He's one of my favourites to
- 1:17:02watch so if you don't agree I don't care.
- 1:17:08I'm going to. I'm going to round it out with
- 1:17:09Scott Rowland in the infield. All right, Hall of Famer there
- 1:17:19you have it. All right, so recapping,
- 1:17:22recapping the the drafts here in order.
- 1:17:28Kyle with Willie Mays. Nate with Derek Jeter second
- 1:17:33pick. Kyle with Cal Ripken second pick
- 1:17:35for Nate. Albert Pools 3rd pick for Kyle.
- 1:17:39Mike Trout third pick for Nate. Shohei Otani 4th pick for Kyle.
- 1:17:44Jackie Robinson 4th pick for Nate.
- 1:17:46Pete Rose 5th pick for Kyle. Johnny Bench 5th pick for Nate.
- 1:17:52Ichiro Suzuki, otherwise known as Ichiro, 6th pick for Kyle.
- 1:17:57Bryce Harper 6th pick for Nate. Tom Seaver 7th pick for Kyle.
- 1:18:02Fernando Valenz Valenzuela 7th pick for Nate.
- 1:18:05Aaron Judge, 8th pick for Kyle. Mike Piazza, 8th pick for Nate
- 1:18:10Frank Robinson, 9th pick for Kyle.
- 1:18:12Rod Carew, 9th pick for Nate Buster Posey and final pick for
- 1:18:17Kyle. Willie Mccovey and final pick
- 1:18:21for Nate. Scott Rolen.
- 1:18:28I'm excited to pick first for whatever draft we do, whatever
- 1:18:32draft we do next. I'm sure.
- 1:18:35Hey, here's your chance to influence the the the jury.
- 1:18:39You all, you you're. Saying I mean this, that's why I
- 1:18:42started just going newer, just started going a little newer.
- 1:18:46That's why that's why Aaron Judge happened.
- 1:18:50That's why Buster Posey happened.
- 1:18:51Just started going for the newer, the newer, younger
- 1:18:54listener out there who maybe is new to Ball and is preferring to
- 1:19:01vote on a team that they've all you know for the most part
- 1:19:04watched. No disrespect towards any of
- 1:19:06these other names to really take any of these names because
- 1:19:10obviously I mean, to win a rookie of the year in baseball
- 1:19:13is impressive in and of itself. But some names in particular
- 1:19:19that maybe you could you could raise some questions on Ronald
- 1:19:25Acuna Junior being left off the list.
- 1:19:26I thought you might have gone there.
- 1:19:28I thought that's who I thought you were doing for instead of
- 1:19:30Acuna. Yeah, it was either Makovia or
- 1:19:32Acuna. Let's see who's the other one.
- 1:19:39Mark McGuire, depending upon how you feel about that got left off
- 1:19:42the list. Nomar Garcia, Parra.
- 1:19:43Another name, Pedroia. Jeff Bagwell.
- 1:19:48Doctor Willis, what's your name? Yeah, I mean the the list,
- 1:19:53Darrell Strawberry, the list goes on.
- 1:19:57Eddie Murray was still left. Eddie Murray was a consideration
- 1:20:00for me, Dwight. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:20:06Lou Whitaker. Some good names on here.
- 1:20:11Good names. Carlton Fisk.
- 1:20:17Some names on here. Anyway, another draft in the
- 1:20:21books. If the offseason continues to be
- 1:20:26this slow, you're going to get a lot more draft.
- 1:20:28Well, I mean, let's just call like it is.
- 1:20:29You're going to get a lot of draft content from us moving
- 1:20:31forward until the season starts anyway.
- 1:20:33But we're we might get a little, we might get a little weird with
- 1:20:37these drafts if, if we're going to continue to progress.
- 1:20:40I like, I didn't mind this, I didn't mind this, but I do like
- 1:20:43the categories. I think the categories throw in
- 1:20:46wrenches versus just an outright draft that it's.
- 1:20:49Like, yeah, I just wanted to mix it up a little bit.
- 1:20:52Yeah, I like, I like some categories that I think we got
- 1:20:56to add in. Sometimes you got to try
- 1:20:58something to new to know what you really like.
- 1:20:59And I think I think you're right.
- 1:21:01I think we do like the snake style category, randomizer type
- 1:21:04draft. So we'll keep that in mind
- 1:21:07moving forward. But I will get a, I'll work on
- 1:21:09getting this graphic out, get the poll out there and let
- 1:21:13people vote. But I think we already know the
- 1:21:16result. But anyway, that's all I really
- 1:21:17got, unless you got anything else for the folks.
- 1:21:21Oh, hit the merch on the shop link in BIOS these jerseys like
- 1:21:28they're actually like it's quality made like this is a nice
- 1:21:31jersey. So you know if you just want
- 1:21:34something casual respect throw it on someone ask you what's up
- 1:21:39this hat. This lid is top tier.
- 1:21:43This is a top tier lid, so Kyle rocking the rope hat.
- 1:21:48There's a lot of options out there.
- 1:21:50The The drip has been turned up a notch in the recent present
- 1:21:55so. Classic recent present.
