• 1:25
[SPEAKER_00]: As again, we keep growing, we keep going, and we keep growing every single day.

• 1:35
[SPEAKER_00]: James Clear simply amplifies, he magnifies the reality that you and I have been equipped to not only take big steps in life, because sometimes you know the opportunity present to several, we can take huge, huge steps in life.
• 1:48
[SPEAKER_00]: But then there are oftentimes, if we are just individuals who are just trying to get it out the mud every single day, we've got to take small steps.
• 1:56
[SPEAKER_00]: And those small steps every single day, they build discipline and they build atomic habits that help us reach the goals that we have set for ourselves and for our families.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm going to show you at the end of the episode how you can win a free atomic habits book that will help you build.
• 2:26
[SPEAKER_00]: to become the person that you will want to become.
• 2:29
[SPEAKER_00]: As we get started this, go ahead and have a word of prayer.
• 2:31
[SPEAKER_00]: As we move forward together, God, we thank you for a day that was not promised to us.
• 2:37
[SPEAKER_00]: We thank you for a day that is filled with gladness, that is filled with hope, and that is filled with your love.
• 2:43
[SPEAKER_00]: I pray now that you would help us.
• 2:44
[SPEAKER_00]: I pray for my friend right now, who is continuing to grow and develop in life.
• 2:49
[SPEAKER_00]: They may be discouraged right now.
• 2:51
[SPEAKER_00]: Let them know that they are on the right path.
• 2:53
[SPEAKER_00]: I pray for my friend right now, who may be struggling just with life in general.
• 2:58
[SPEAKER_00]: I hope and pray and I believe by faith that as they hear the words today that you've given to me to share on this podcast episode that they would know for a well that there is still something on this earth for them to do.
• 3:12
[SPEAKER_00]: Bless us now, we pray in your name, Amen.
• 3:15
[SPEAKER_00]: Today we want to talk about a super, super important topic and it's specifically how to turn
• 3:25
[SPEAKER_00]: How in the world can we flip a loss?
• 3:28
[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, where I was growing up in the neighborhood, they used to talk about how people in life takes, we take an ale, like, oh man, I took an ale today.
• 3:36
[SPEAKER_00]: What does taking an ale mean?
• 3:38
[SPEAKER_00]: That means sometimes in life, we launch or we embark upon something that we don't win at.
• 3:44
[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, it's funny to me that as I look at LeBron James, who's a huge topic right now with his son, Brani James, being not only that this is a different phenomenon, not only his Brani James in the NBA, he's on the same team with his daddy.
• 4:01
[SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of people are saying, man, LeBron James is winning.
• 4:05
[SPEAKER_00]: But you don't know how many losses he says.
• 4:08
[SPEAKER_00]: He and Brani had to take before he got to a place where they could be on the same team.
• 4:14
[SPEAKER_00]: One loss he talks about is how Ronnie James had a health setback doing his freshman season at U.S. how he had some hot challenges.
• 4:24
[SPEAKER_00]: That was an ail that he took, but he turned that ail right that loss into a win.
• 4:31
[SPEAKER_00]: and he fulfilled his dream of making it to the NBA.
• 4:35
[SPEAKER_00]: But grief recovery Institute, I recently did a report, and it says there's 70% of people experience at least one significant loss in their lifetime.
• 4:47
[SPEAKER_00]: He might hear what I'm saying.
• 4:49
[SPEAKER_00]: Grief recovery Institute did a survey, and the stats suggest that 70% of people
• 4:58
[SPEAKER_00]: Experience at least one now.
• 5:02
[SPEAKER_00]: There are people that experience is the experience two five ten but 70% of people experience at least one Significant what's significant the loss of a loved one the loss of a job of financial sit back or hardship the loss of a spouse The loss of a child
• 5:27
[SPEAKER_00]: 70% of people experience at least one significant loss in their lifetime.
• 5:35
[SPEAKER_00]: And of course, as you're listening to the show today, I'm sure you can recall at least one loss in your life.
• 5:44
  [SPEAKER_00]: And sad but true.
• 5:46
[SPEAKER_00]: The old edit says, if you haven't experienced a loss just yet, if you haven't experienced a trial, just yet, just keep living.
• 5:55
[SPEAKER_00]: The first significant loss I ever had in my life that I can recall was when I was 12 years of age.
• 6:01
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, at 12, of course, you're really only concerned with your friends, you're only concerned with maybe some toys, if you enter that at that age, maybe you're only concerned with, at my point, I was playing outside a lot at 12.
• 6:15
[SPEAKER_00]: The only thing I was concerned with was living in my little bubble that I created for myself.
• 6:21
[SPEAKER_00]: But lo and behold, a week before my 12th birthday, my grandmother passed away.
• 6:29
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, on my birthday, March to 28th, you would think that I will be preparing for candles and balloons or birthday cake.
• 6:37
[SPEAKER_00]: None of that happened on my 12th birthday.
• 6:42
[SPEAKER_00]: Because that week, my family and I had experienced the greatest loss up until that point.
• 6:48
[SPEAKER_00]: And that was the death of my maternal grandmother.
• 6:52
[SPEAKER_00]: and just because of timing, her funeral services actually ended up being on my actual 12th birthday.
• 7:03
[SPEAKER_00]: No cakes, no parties, no balloons, we're at a funeral.
• 7:10
[SPEAKER_00]: And as we're at that funeral, it's funny because I was interesting, I should say, because I forgot that it was my birthday.
• 7:18
[SPEAKER_00]: I was so, I was so, I guess, devoid of, or trying to feel that void in my life in that moment, that I didn't realize that it was my birthday.
• 7:31
[SPEAKER_00]: Therefore, I didn't care if we celebrated or not because I was mourning the loss on my grandmother.
• 7:40
[SPEAKER_00]: Now I don't know what your loss may have been in life.
• 7:42
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what your loss that you've recalled or recounted at this point.
• 7:45
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what that loss looks like.
• 7:48
[SPEAKER_00]: But oftentimes, you hear people say to themselves, man, I'm going to do something significant because that's what the loss of that love one or that individual who passed away would have wanted me to do or somebody may have lost a job.
• 8:01
[SPEAKER_00]: And they said, you know what, I'm coming back stronger and harder.
• 8:04
  [SPEAKER_00]: You know why?
• 8:05
[SPEAKER_00]: Because I don't want them to think that my life ended because they fired me from that job.
• 8:08
[SPEAKER_00]: All you hear people say, man, I had a financial hardship.
• 8:12
[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm going to ensure that I never have another financial hardship by making sure I have multiple strings of income.
• 8:18
[SPEAKER_00]: The bottom line is this, many individuals are most individuals that go through a significant loss.
• 8:23
[SPEAKER_00]: They overcompensate or they find themselves doubling down and responded at loss because sometimes in life, loss, setback, and all those hardships makes things more clear to us.
• 8:41
[SPEAKER_00]: It puts things in perspective for us.
• 8:46
[SPEAKER_00]: It often pulls us to a place where we begin to think about man.
• 8:50
[SPEAKER_00]: Wow, life is not what we thought it was going to be.
• 8:53
[SPEAKER_00]: Man, wow, I've got to double down and make sure I make full use of today.
• 9:01
[SPEAKER_00]: In other words, as we look at our lives, as we look at what's ahead of us, as we look at what's behind us, behind us, we go to ask ourselves, are we using our time wisely and have we put ourselves in position to turn a loss into a success?
• 9:23
[SPEAKER_00]: Now what do you mean by that Eugene?
• 9:25
  [SPEAKER_00]: I'm glad you asked.
• 9:26
[SPEAKER_00]: Most times, as we think about turning a loss into success,
• 9:32
[SPEAKER_00]: It hinders on the fact that we've got to have the proper perspective to do that.
• 9:40
[SPEAKER_00]: In other words, in order for me to look at a loss as a game, don't miss this, don't turn the episode off just yet.
• 9:49
[SPEAKER_00]: In order for me to look at a loss as something that's going to work in my favor, I have to have the proper perspective on life.
• 10:00
[SPEAKER_00]: In other words, we were born in this world, and we were takerous before we were ever givers.
• 10:07
  [SPEAKER_00]: Where's the milk?
• 10:08
  [SPEAKER_00]: Where's my this?
• 10:08
[SPEAKER_00]: Where's my son right now?
• 10:10
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh man, that's my toy.
• 10:11
[SPEAKER_00]: That's my, I mean, it could be my pet, that's my, that's, those are my eggs.
• 10:15
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, no, your plate is over there, son.
• 10:17
[SPEAKER_00]: My, my, we think that everything is ours.
• 10:21
[SPEAKER_00]: In many times, we never ever get to a place where we understand the power of loss and that things are not ours until we finally lose something or lose hand-long, what we thought was ours.
• 10:35
[SPEAKER_00]: So there are people right now who don't, who have yet to understand the power of turning our loss into a success because we haven't lost anything just yet.
• 10:52
[SPEAKER_00]: But sometimes, a loss can be deemed a blessing for us.
• 10:57
[SPEAKER_00]: There are people who I know, man, who got a better handle on God and his presence in the lies, athlete lost something significant.
• 11:08
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, it's not to say that what they lost was evil, what they lost was poison, or what they lost.
• 11:14
  [SPEAKER_00]: No, it's sometimes, though,
• 11:16
[SPEAKER_00]: God can work through a loss to get our attention, not that he purposefully allows the loss to happen, but he does allow it to happen sometimes to help us get back in line with him.
• 11:32
[SPEAKER_00]: The American Psychological Association tells us this.
• 11:36
[SPEAKER_00]: individuals who actively build resilience are 50% more likely to recover from significant loss and achieve success in the following years.
• 11:50
[SPEAKER_00]: So how do we turn loss into success?
• 11:56
[SPEAKER_00]: The first way we do it, if we've got to stop living in denial and acknowledge that we actually
• 12:08
  [SPEAKER_00]: don't miss this.
• 12:09
[SPEAKER_00]: The sometimes people think that, hey, the way that I can process this loss is to act like it's still here.
• 12:15
[SPEAKER_00]: No, you're setting yourself back.
• 12:19
[SPEAKER_00]: The first step in our turning that loss into a success or turn that loss into a gain or turn that loss into a blessing is to acknowledge.
• 12:32
[SPEAKER_00]: And to process the loss.
• 12:36
[SPEAKER_00]: And there are several ways that individuals process the law.
• 12:39
[SPEAKER_00]: So, several ways that people go through the process of acknowledging that law and one way is by practicing meditation and reflection.
• 12:48
[SPEAKER_00]: They reflect on the fact that, hey, there's a law that took place.
• 12:51
[SPEAKER_00]: There are some emotions that are here and I would encourage you oftentimes the acknowledgement and the process piece can be better handle if there's a therapist or a counselor in place to kind of help us move forward.
• 13:07
[SPEAKER_00]: and learn what to do with those feelings and those emotions that we are now acknowledging after the loss, or we angry, or lost the job.
• 13:18
[SPEAKER_00]: Some of you right now, you're the bread winner.
• 13:21
[SPEAKER_00]: They cut back on hours at work.
• 13:23
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh man, I'm losing some money.
• 13:25
  [SPEAKER_00]: What do I do?
• 13:28
[SPEAKER_00]: do I stay angry and still be broke or do I use now that that realization that hey I can't depend these folks can do anything they want to on this job I've got to find another way to get another stream of incoming this house so I never feel the the weight or the blow of that financial gap that has not been created because of loss of hours.
• 13:52
[SPEAKER_00]: If I've lost a love in my life, I've got to acknowledge the fact that, hey, this person was a blessing in my life, this person was, listen, and it's not, it's not co-hearted, but we realize and recognize sometimes in life that things and people are in our lives for a reason, for a season and sometimes in the lifetime.
• 14:11
[SPEAKER_00]: So, I've got to acknowledge, hey, that there are some relationships in my life, not so much it's somebody passed away, but some relationships actually die in our lives.
• 14:20
[SPEAKER_00]: And we gotta say to ourselves, man, what was the purpose for that?
• 14:23
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, man, wow, here are the lessons that I learned.
• 14:26
[SPEAKER_00]: Here are the things that that relationship taught me.
• 14:28
[SPEAKER_00]: Here are the things that that situation taught me that I'm going to take and apply those lessons to my life for the rest of my life.
• 14:34
[SPEAKER_00]: Even though they may not be here, the lessons will be here for a lifetime.
• 14:40
[SPEAKER_00]: So the first way to turn a loss into a success or turn a loss into a blessing and to shift my perspective.
• 14:50
[SPEAKER_00]: It's to acknowledge and process the loss.
• 14:55
[SPEAKER_00]: The second way that I can turn that loss into a success is to now set new goals for my life.
• 15:07
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I lost the job.
• 15:09
  [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, cool, got it.
• 15:11
[SPEAKER_00]: And I understand the pain, the power, and 2020, I got a new job.
• 15:21
[SPEAKER_00]: And man, I was excited about this new job.
• 15:24
[SPEAKER_00]: I was excited about being in charge.
• 15:27
[SPEAKER_00]: I was excited about the new responsibility.
• 15:30
  [SPEAKER_00]: I wasn't excited about the drive.
• 15:34
[SPEAKER_00]: But I was excited because, hey, there were some new things that were happening in my life.
• 15:38
[SPEAKER_00]: And I was excited about turning over to a new chapter, turning over to a new page in my journey in life.
• 15:47
  [SPEAKER_00]: And then COVID hit.
• 15:50
[SPEAKER_00]: That job dried up, like the red sea.
• 15:55
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that new job.
• 15:56
[SPEAKER_00]: I thought I was having and keeping mine now.
• 15:59
[SPEAKER_00]: I had a child on the way.
• 16:01
  [SPEAKER_00]: I'm I'm I'm brand new in my marriage.
• 16:03
[SPEAKER_00]: Man, listen, that thing happened and it shook me to my core.
• 16:10
[SPEAKER_00]: Now I could sit there and be like, oh man, I'm mad at the company, math organization, upset at COVID, upset at God.
• 16:17
[SPEAKER_00]: I could sit there in my house, eat Twinkies, eat honey buns, all day long, and just waste time.
• 16:22
[SPEAKER_00]: That's what most people do.
• 16:25
[SPEAKER_00]: We find ourselves experiencing a significant loss.
• 16:30
[SPEAKER_00]: So we spend time with picking up vices, picking up habits.
• 16:35
[SPEAKER_00]: That's going to damage our health, how health we pick up connections.
• 16:39
[SPEAKER_00]: That's going to damage our our our ability to love properly and to move forward.
• 16:45
[SPEAKER_00]: Oftentimes we pick up things that were not help us, but that will actually hurt us.
• 16:51
[SPEAKER_00]: So I could have sat there and while I load in my sorrow of losing this job.
• 16:59
[SPEAKER_00]: Because I made plans to leave one job, go to this new job, the job closed.
• 17:07
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm wasn't there for all the way.
• 17:11
[SPEAKER_00]: I decided then to set some new goals.
• 17:16
  [SPEAKER_00]: This number two.
• 17:18
[SPEAKER_00]: If you recall, if you're with me, if you're rocking with me today, you recall that the first way to turn a loss into a success, turn a loss into a blessing is to acknowledge that I lost something, don't ignore it, be real, keep it 100 with yourself, but then number two, after I've processed that loss, it's time, I gotta set some new goals.
• 17:43
[SPEAKER_00]: What's you going to do now, bro?
• 17:45
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh Eugene, okay, you lost your job.
• 17:48
[SPEAKER_00]: Ooh, we cry for two nights.
• 17:50
  [SPEAKER_00]: That's cool.
• 17:52
[SPEAKER_00]: I like Thai tribut song.
• 17:54
[SPEAKER_00]: Thai tribut has a song.
• 17:55
  [SPEAKER_00]: Nice little beat too.
• 17:56
[SPEAKER_00]: I listen to it in the gym when I'm lifting weights.
• 17:58
[SPEAKER_00]: It's called Only One Night, though.
• 18:00
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you could cry, but only one night, though.
• 18:03
[SPEAKER_00]: You could be mad, but only one night, though, right?
• 18:06
[SPEAKER_00]: You could be upset, but only one night.
• 18:10
  [SPEAKER_00]: Tomorrow's a new day.
• 18:13
[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, there's a Bible script that hinges on this.
• 18:16
[SPEAKER_00]: It says weeping may endure for a night, but you gotta wake them and look for some joy in the morning time.
• 18:24
[SPEAKER_00]: So after you say after you process and ignores their loss, what new and exciting smart goals are you setting for yourself?
• 18:37
[SPEAKER_00]: And we know that smart simply is the acronym for specific goals, specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time bound goals.
• 18:52
[SPEAKER_00]: What action plans are we putting in place once again to say that I don't know another gentleman who Who put all of his eggs as they say back in the day.
• 19:02
[SPEAKER_00]: He put all of his eggs in one basket.
• 19:04
[SPEAKER_00]: He depending on this one stream this one job and that job folded And he said to himself, man, I'm going to put myself in position Set some new goals for me and my family So if ever I were to lose another job
• 19:21
[SPEAKER_00]: I've got some things in place, I can fall back on.
• 19:24
[SPEAKER_00]: Third thing that you've got to do if you want to turn losses into successes, you've got to learn how to leverage support networks.
• 19:38
[SPEAKER_00]: So, oftentimes, you forget and you neglect the fact that you've got a community of people and one community is called the Grow Squad we hear.
• 19:47
[SPEAKER_00]: But you got to leverage your support networks, connect with supportive individuals who have always been in your corner.
• 19:53
[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes you've got to say to yourself, I've got to eat some as they say, humble pie and tap in.
• 20:00
[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes when I'm going through a loss, I've got to connect with people that I know have my back.
• 20:05
[SPEAKER_00]: That I know have my best interest at heart and get sometimes helped me move forward.
• 20:12
[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes these individuals can help me reposition myself.
• 20:16
[SPEAKER_00]: to get a better job, to get better income, to put myself in a new light to attract new business or whatever the case might be.
• 20:23
[SPEAKER_00]: I got a leverage, my support networks.
• 20:27
[SPEAKER_00]: And ensure that I am lining myself up and putting myself in position to move forward, to go and to move even higher, and to experience, check this out, new success in your life.
• 20:47
[SPEAKER_00]: So am I saying, we should minimize loss?
• 20:49
  [UNKNOWN]: No.
• 20:52
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm saying that everything that happens in our lives, don't miss this, has the potential to be fuel to help you get to somewhere greater.
• 21:03
[SPEAKER_00]: everything that happens in our lives.
• 21:05
[SPEAKER_00]: Do you do you realize all the people that have lost in life that have lost?
• 21:09
[SPEAKER_00]: They've been in and I don't want to test this this topic today or ever really, but there are some individuals who have been in the race for certain political offices and elections and they've gone back several times out one, two, three, four and then finally on whatever time, I was listening to the day two, missed USA or Miss America, one of those winners of 2016.
• 21:33
[SPEAKER_00]: And she was talking about how she tried to go and win the pageant, and this was her last attempt.
• 21:41
[SPEAKER_00]: In other words, before 2016 or after 2016, there was an age limit on who could compete.
• 21:50
[SPEAKER_00]: And she was in the last year of eligibility.
• 21:53
[SPEAKER_00]: And she put everything she turned all those losses.
• 21:56
[SPEAKER_00]: She had lost for six years in a row.
• 22:02
[SPEAKER_00]: She gone to the pageant, she'd gone to whatever that next level was to try to enter into the, and she lost six times in a row, so on the seven times, she said, you know what, I'm going to take every lesson that I've ever learned in all six losses.
• 22:17
[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm going to pack these them together and come together with a full proof plan that I'm determined to win on the seven times.
• 22:26
[SPEAKER_00]: I guess what, yep, you got it right on a seven
• 22:34
