- 1:01Mark thing is a pretty big deal for Elon Musk at this point.
- 1:04Recently. He rolled out the Eight dollar
- 1:06per month paid plan, so you can get an official checkmark, the
- 1:10blue check mark for your Twitter profile, which is a great idea
- 1:13if you want to make sure that people have a credit card and
- 1:16that they can pay eight dollars a month.
- 1:17But that didn't seem to go too. Well, because people were paying
- 1:21the, $8 pretending to be other people pretending to be other
- 1:25entities, pretending to be large companies and just recently
- 1:29elected On musk pulled the plug on that program.
- 1:32Nobody can buy the 8 dollar check mark anymore for a little
- 1:35bit but Elon said that he's working on a tentative rollout
- 1:40for a new check mark type of scheme.
- 1:42Companies will get a gold checkmark, government officials
- 1:45will get a great check mark and then there's got to be something
- 1:48in between as well as for prominent accounts in the blue,
- 1:52check mark will be dedicated to individuals even if they're not
- 1:56celebrities so people like yourself Mike.
- 2:00Health can buy the 8 dollar check mark still but we don't
- 2:02know what the deal is with the other checkmarks.
- 2:05Do companies have to pay for a gold check mark more than likely
- 2:09they do. In government, officials will
- 2:12probably get the gray check mark because their government
- 2:15official and they probably have to do some sort of a government
- 2:17ID to prove who they are so they can get that check.
- 2:20Mark, Elon Musk said sorry for the delay but they're figuring
- 2:24it out because this is a kind of a new company Elon is building
- 2:27here. It's not the same old Twitter.
- 2:30R as we're used to there's a big shake-up going on.
- 2:32So he's trying to figure things out and you have to live fast.
- 2:35Die young, kind of strategy. Get these things out of the way.
- 2:39Maybe you break some stuff along the way, but that's how you
- 2:42learn, that's how he builds. All of his company's SpaceX, is
- 2:46a huge, proponent of building something, and then going
- 2:50through the process of figuring out why it broke if it broke.
- 2:54So, say, if something has a red on the Launchpad rapid,
- 2:57unscheduled disassembly, The Launchpad to blows up, then
- 3:01they're going to figure out why it blew up.
- 3:03And then of course they're going to make those changes.
- 3:05So, that's kind of what's happening with the Twitter,
- 3:08check marks and that in such an extreme scale as a rocket
- 3:11exploding. But Elon is said they're working
- 3:13on it. And individuals may have a tiny
- 3:16logo showing that they belong to an organization if they're
- 3:21verified by the organization. Here's an example.
- 3:24If you are the CEO of Best Buy and you have a regular Mark.
- 3:30But you may also have a small logo or some sort of little tab
- 3:36or something that shows that you are the CEO of Best Buy or that
- 3:40you work for Best. Buy, it could be a cool thing
- 3:42that you're, you know, that you're actually verified with
- 3:45that company and that you're not a faker and that's what Ilan has
- 3:48been working on for a while now, he's been hoping that Twitter
- 3:51would do by themselves is to say, hey, we know that people
- 3:55impersonate Elon Musk all the time, we know that there's
- 3:57crypto scammers out there all the time, Every time Elon post
- 4:01anything, there's a million crypto scammers out there that
- 4:05are saying you just won 10 million Bitcoin.
- 4:08All you have to do is send us, the 0.01 Bitcoin and we'll send
- 4:12it to you'll, send it the million Bitcoin and they get
- 4:15away with it. I'm sure some of them make a
- 4:17little bit of money from it. But now Elon is trying to take
- 4:20that away from them, which is a great thing, because if you want
- 4:23this to be a centralized place for people to communicate, you
- 4:27need to trust the people that are around, you need To trust it
- 4:30there. The actual people when Elon Musk
- 4:32took over Twitter, there were over 7,500 people working there.
- 4:37And now, Twitter has around 2,700 employees, the workforce
- 4:42has shrunk, but Elon Musk said, he cut the fat of the company
- 4:46and he's going to start hiring again.
- 4:47And during an all hands meeting with Twitter employees must said
- 4:51that the company is done with layoffs.
- 4:53Everyone is good for now. They're actively recruiting
- 4:56roles in engineering and sales. Current employees are in Courage
- 5:00to make referrals for people that they think would be able to
- 5:03do the jobs and Twitter usually has these roles open to the
- 5:06public as their hiring but I dug in and I couldn't find any on
- 5:10the company's website. I believe this is in the very
- 5:13early stages of Twitter 2.0 which is going to be an Elon
- 5:17Musk company going forward and that they're going to be trying
- 5:21to hire from within the people that they trust and not outside
- 5:24influences on Monday. Elon Musk had an
- 5:27all-hands-on-deck Her employee meeting after about 1,000 people
- 5:34left the company they resigned because they didn't want to do
- 5:37the quote, extremely hard core cultural reset, that's going to
- 5:41be happening at the company. He was taking questions from
- 5:45people that work there. They asked a lot if he was going
- 5:48to move the company from San Francisco to Texas, and then
- 5:53allowed went on to say. If we want to move the
- 5:55headquarters to Texas, I think it will play into the idea that
- 5:58Twitter has gone from being Left wing to right wing which is not
- 6:02the case. This is not a right-wing
- 6:05takeover of Twitter. It is a moderate Wing takeover
- 6:08of Twitter and Elon wants to make this a place where everyone
- 6:12can gather and express their ideas.
- 6:14He's a free speech absolutist, of course, that's what he said
- 6:18in his own words, he acknowledges that there's been a
- 6:22lot of mistakes during his takeover of Twitter.
- 6:25He acknowledges that it's fine. Things will stabilize over time.
- 6:29He also said significant portions of the technology stack
- 6:33need to be rebuilt from scratch and by setting up engineering
- 6:36teams, in Japan, India, Indonesia, and Brazil this can
- 6:41all happen and he wants to somewhat decentralize things as
- 6:45well wants to encrypt a direct messages, which is a great thing
- 6:49for people that send a lot of messages on Twitter.
- 6:52Apparently, your Twitter messages aren't encrypted Ilan.
- 6:55Said they plan on using the company signal to encrypt.
- 7:00All of your DMs on Twitter in the future.
- 7:02In, here's something you might not know about Twitter because
- 7:05Elon Musk brought this up in the meeting.
- 7:07And I wasn't 100% sure about this either.
- 7:10So he said it may seem as though Twitter is u.s.
- 7:13Centric but if anything it's Japan Centric.
- 7:16There are roughly the same number of daily active users in
- 7:19Japan is there are in the u.s. despite the fact that Japan has
- 7:23one third of the population of the United States and during the
- 7:26town hall meeting Elon Musk addressed to Twitter employees,
- 7:31concerns about their compensation going forward.
- 7:34SpaceX is a privately held company in a way things work.
- 7:38Is it every six months, there's a liquidity event where the
- 7:40company buys back shares and also invite new investors to buy
- 7:43shares and will be able to operate Twitter in the same way.
- 7:47And Elon Musk said there's a lot of new things that he wants to
- 7:50bring to the table with Twitter. One of them is to be able to
- 7:52bank on Twitter, send the money back and forth and also P
- 7:56creators on the platform. So say somebody who are Has 90
- 8:001103 YouTube subscribers. Like myself, the show is brought
- 8:05to you by backblaze, I use back place to back up my podcast.
- 8:09My video files, all of my writing stuff, and all my
- 8:12photos. And you get unlimited computer
- 8:14backup, for Macs and PCs for just $7 a month.
- 8:18You can backup your own documents photos videos.
- 8:20Drawings projects, all of your data and access your backed up
- 8:24data from anywhere in the world using the web app and you can
- 8:28access the files on your mobile. To iOS Android apps all covered.
- 8:32And this is the cool part. This is my favorite part.
- 8:33You can restore it by mail, a hard drive will come to your
- 8:36house with all your data shipped to your door.
- 8:39It could come to your business to and you can restore return
- 8:42refund program so you can buy a hard drive restore, send the
- 8:45hard drive back within 30 days and get a full refund.
- 8:48So basically they ship you this hard drive and then you ship it
- 8:52back and you don't ever pay for it which is the perfect program
- 8:55for somebody who has huge files. You don't want to waste days and
- 8:58days, downloading Terabytes and teraflops of data.
- 9:02And if you're worried about accidentally, deleting your
- 9:03files to bucks extra month, you can increase your retention
- 9:07history to one year, and I use it for all of my video.
- 9:10Files comes in super handy. So seven dollars plus two
- 9:14dollars nine dollars a month and you get everything backed up.
- 9:17He's a mind for up to a year. And if you use the URL back,
- 9:21place.com slash Ilan, you get a fully featured 15-day.
- 9:26No credit card required, free trial, check it out.
- 9:29I play with it. Start protecting yourself from
- 9:31potential, bad times, back your stuff up.
- 9:34It's recommended by the New York Times ink macworld PC World.
- 9:39Life wire wired, Tom's guide and I defied mac and more and it's
- 9:42recently been listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange under be
- 9:45lze. So you know they're legit back
- 9:48plays is committed more than ever to bring an easy and
- 9:51affordable data storage that you can trust don't be that person
- 9:54that forgot to back up their important files.
- 9:56We've got your back sign up for a free 15 day.
- 10:00No credit card required. Go there.
- 10:02Sign up. I you with it.
- 10:04It's really powerful. It is really easy to use.
- 10:07So go to back plays.com / heel on back plays.com Ilan,
- 10:13backblaze.com, be Lon. Could I take some of those
- 10:17subscribers over to Twitter and start making a little bit of
- 10:19money over there? There's a possibility that I
- 10:22could do that. Could I bring 10,000 people from
- 10:24YouTube to Twitter as a possibility, a very slight
- 10:28possibility, but There is a possibility that I could bring
- 10:31in a little bit of extra Revenue every month from my Twitter
- 10:34channels. So there's one thing that Elon
- 10:37was talking about paying the Creator's.
- 10:39You might be able to make a decent living on Twitter because
- 10:42right now on Twitter, everything is free.
- 10:44You can sure you can super subscribe to somebody or if I
- 10:47don't even know what it's called super follow somebody or
- 10:49whatever and you get x amount of dollars per month from that
- 10:52person. But that's not.
- 10:55There's no monetization really on the Twitter platform other
- 10:58than that and you can't really make a living.
- 10:59On Twitter at this point you can use it as one of your Social
- 11:02channels to show your reach and get sponsorships.
- 11:05Sure. But that also takes a sales team
- 11:08or to reach out to companies that you're interested in to get
- 11:11them to pay you something for your reach now.
- 11:14Ilana said thinking about doing something along the lines of
- 11:17YouTube where you can make money from the platform by just
- 11:20posting videos. Maybe they'll run an ad in a
- 11:23pre-roll, a post roll and a mid-roll.
- 11:26So you have three ad placements during the videos that would
- 11:29It'd be great. Now, are there going to be video
- 11:32editing tools on Twitter in the future, kind of competing
- 11:35directly with YouTube? I don't see that happening
- 11:38anytime soon with the slim down engineering team that Ilan has,
- 11:42I mean, it was 7400 people and the internal systems of Twitter
- 11:46and now it's about 2,700 people and building something like that
- 11:50out. It could take a long time but
- 11:53possibly these new people that are coming in, could fill that
- 11:57role maybe there is people that are coming into it.
- 11:59Is the financial situation people that are coming in to do
- 12:03the monetization and also people coming into the engineering to
- 12:08use the platform for creators. Now, another part of this is
- 12:12pretty important part of it for creators.
- 12:15How do you get paid? And there are a few things that
- 12:18you'll on mentioned about how creators could get paid in the
- 12:21future. You said, recently in a tweet
- 12:23that there's a possibility, he could be integrating crypto into
- 12:27the platform. He said he wants to do that in.
- 12:29The past he said that and he said that there's a possibility
- 12:33that, you know, Bitcoin or Dogecoin possibly, Dogecoin
- 12:37would be funny because it's kind of it's a meme coin but I think
- 12:41something more stable like etherium, or maybe a stable coin
- 12:45or maybe, you know, a way for them to bring Bitcoin to the
- 12:49platform and make the transactions pretty seamless and
- 12:52very quick because I mean, as a Creator, I know what it's like
- 12:56to wait. 30 days for your money on YouTube, If As a Creator say
- 13:01if I post a video on Twitter and I'm going to bring this up to
- 13:04Ilan, I'm going to Tweet him and say, hey, can we get paid the
- 13:06same day because there are other platforms out there that do
- 13:09that, there are some some podcast platforms that actually
- 13:12do. That, one of them is Anchor and
- 13:14whatever you do with your anchor podcast, you get paid within 24
- 13:18hours and you can get your money out immediately.
- 13:21So say if I write and do a podcast and say if I make 10
- 13:25bucks for that podcast. Yeah, maybe that might be a
- 13:28logical thing 10. Dollars, you know what, if you
- 13:30make a hundred dollars in that podcast, the hundred dollars if
- 13:33it's the day before you have to pay your bills and you're like,
- 13:37well, I'm a little bit short, those hundred dollars go a very
- 13:41long way in the grand scheme of things.
- 13:44So if that's a possibility at the payout, like immediate
- 13:46payout, whether it's Bitcoin, whether it's USD, whether
- 13:50whatever it is directly to your bank account, use stripe partner
- 13:54with somebody like that so you can get your pay out
- 13:56immediately. I think that would be a great
- 13:58option for Going forward as a Creator myself.
- 14:02I have two podcasts have a YouTube channel.
- 14:04I'm starting another YouTube channel for coding, you know,
- 14:07and there's there's numerous ways that I can make money from
- 14:10all this stuff but if Twitter was another one that would be a
- 14:13huge, huge deal. Now there is also a little bit
- 14:17of drama with Engineers leaving. There's long tenured engineer's
- 14:21people that have been there since the beginning are leaving
- 14:24some with more than a decade of experience or leaving.
- 14:27And there's corporate leaders that are Leaving Twitter, CEO,
- 14:31the CFO and chief legal officer, were all removed.
- 14:35On the first day that Elon took charge elon's top advertising
- 14:40and content partnership. Leaders have either resigned or
- 14:44been fired by Elon and there's critical teams throughout the
- 14:48company that have just been gutted by the layoffs.
- 14:51And people have just left. They fled because they don't
- 14:54know the certainty of their positions in the future.
- 14:57Usually, this happens, it's a corporate.
- 14:59Right? When you go from one company to
- 15:02another company, if you gut the company that you're going into,
- 15:05you already saw from the outside, what's wrong with the
- 15:08company? You see, 7400 people, seventy
- 15:11seven hundred people, something like that and then you think hey
- 15:14we're going to have to pay these people.
- 15:16A lot of money and what do they actually do?
- 15:18You know, I've been in corporate situations.
- 15:20I understand that sentiment. What are these people actually
- 15:22do? Why are these people here?
- 15:24And the people that he gutted? Well, he asked for some of them
- 15:28to come back as well and he's He's reached out to them, the
- 15:30companies reach out to them and hopefully they get Fair
- 15:33compensation. If they do come back, very fair
- 15:35compensation. If they do come back, if not, I
- 15:37hope that they all, you know, leave with the best interests
- 15:41going forward and hopefully they find employment pretty soon
- 15:44because, no matter what you think of Twitter or Elon or the
- 15:47people involved, it looks like the future for Twitter is coming
- 15:51together. The whole ecosystem of Twitter
- 15:55is starting to happen in elon's Mind's Eye and I'm excited.
- 15:59I did about it. I think it could be a great
- 16:01platform. I also think that the user base
- 16:04on Twitter is what Ilan bought. He didn't buy the technology
- 16:08because he said most of it has to be Rewritten, right?
- 16:11So some of it can probably stay the user.
- 16:15Base of people is what he bought.
- 16:17He bought people that are active on a social media platform and
- 16:21the fact that he can just integrate those people into his
- 16:24new product very easily. I think that's going to be a win
- 16:27for Twitter, and it's going to be a win for Eli.
- 16:29On and I believe since it's a privately held company he'll get
- 16:32investors private investors. This see his vision even more so
- 16:36than with the 45 billion dollar price tag that was initially set
- 16:40for the Twitter's purchase. I think there's going to be more
- 16:43investors coming in. I think there's going to be
- 16:44around next spring once he builds out the infrastructure
- 16:48and once he builds out the actual product and shows the
- 16:52offerings of Twitter and the future, maybe he renames it to
- 16:55x.com because he said x.com forever and he's always wanted
- 16:59to build. Something like this and this
- 17:00could be the opportunity for him to transfer everything over.
- 17:03It's going to be an exciting few months coming up and I'll have
- 17:06all the information for you. So please stay tuned.
- 17:09Please hit subscribe. So you can get all the Elon Musk
- 17:12information directly delivered to you on whatever podcast
- 17:16platform you're listening on, thank you so much for listening.
- 17:18My name is Will Walden and take care.
