Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome to On Base.
- 0:01Speaker 2: I'm your host, Mookie Betts, and today we have two-time All-Star,
- 0:04Speaker 2: two-time Silver Slugger, 2021 World Series Champion, and Braves third baseman,
- 0:10Speaker 2: Austin Riley.
- 0:11Speaker 1: What's up? How you doing, brother? I'm good. Appreciate you
- 0:13Speaker 1: having me. You know what?
- 0:14Speaker 2: You know you're special because we're in the studio today.
- 0:17Speaker 2: You know, we usually have a hotel room, but for you,
- 0:20Speaker 2: we're here in the MLB studio, so hopefully you you
- 0:25Speaker 2: got to make this a good one okay.
- 0:27Speaker 3: I'm gonna try my best no promises um.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Okay so bro to start off we uh first of
- 0:33Speaker 2: all do you like the abs challenge system first of
- 0:37Speaker 2: all you don't like it so why don't you like
- 0:39Speaker 2: it personally i don't like it because you know this
- 0:42Speaker 2: game's already as hard as it is right and i'm
- 0:45Speaker 2: trying to hit 100 yeah with you know three different
- 0:48Speaker 2: fastballs four seam two seam now cutters and sweeping sliders
- 0:54Speaker 2: and I'm just trying to make contact.
- 0:56Speaker 3: And now all of a sudden I got to play
- 0:58Speaker 3: umpire a little bit. And, you know, especially like big situation,
- 1:01Speaker 3: you know, we had one not long ago. It's like,
- 1:03Speaker 3: I think in Minnesota, it was strike three, runner on
- 1:08Speaker 3: first and second. Should have, it was a ball, should
- 1:10Speaker 3: have challenged it. And now it's like, I got to
- 1:12Speaker 3: answer to the media after the game. It's like, man,
- 1:16Speaker 3: you know, I get like, you know, the whole concept
- 1:18Speaker 3: of it is like the big misses, but you know,
- 1:20Speaker 3: when it's, 0.2 inches off the plate and I didn't call,
- 1:24Speaker 3: you know, whatever it may be. Um, so yeah, I mean, I,
- 1:28Speaker 3: I get the whole standpoint of like, you know, the
- 1:30Speaker 3: big misses, but from just the, the human element of
- 1:34Speaker 3: the game, um, I, I'm not.
- 1:37Speaker 2: The biggest fan. I, I, I definitely understand that. Well, you,
- 1:41Speaker 2: you know how many challenges you have this year?
- 1:44Speaker 3: It's probably, I'm going to say four, five, five.
- 1:48Speaker 1: You're one for five. Not very good. It's not. It's okay, though.
- 1:55Speaker 1: But we play this game. It's called Make the Call.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:58Speaker 2: And so what we'll show is pitches. You've got to
- 2:02Speaker 2: guess if it's a ball or strike. You're one for
- 2:04Speaker 2: five this year in your challenges. And so if you
- 2:07Speaker 2: go one for five here.
- 2:08Speaker 1: You won't. You'll be in last. I'll be in last place.
- 2:10Speaker 1: You'll be in last place.
- 2:11Speaker 2: So three for five has been the best. We've had
- 2:15Speaker 2: a bunch of guys at three for five. And then
- 2:18Speaker 2: two for five, you'll be. battling for last so two
- 2:22Speaker 2: five so i gotta get three right so you gotta
- 2:24Speaker 2: get three at least at least three right okay all
- 2:26Speaker 2: right so if you miss gotta answer a question if i.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Miss again okay yep all right let's do it.
- 2:35Speaker 2: That's a strike strike yeah that was pretty quick okay
- 2:39Speaker 2: so nice it's a good start one for one okay
- 2:44Speaker 2: that's a tough one you uh a lot of guys
- 2:47Speaker 2: say in and out is not as hard as up
- 2:49Speaker 2: and down.
- 2:50Speaker 3: In and out's not as– see, for me, in and
- 2:52Speaker 3: out's harder than up and down.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Oh, okay. There you go. Got lucky. That may be
- 2:59Speaker 1: why you're one for five in challenges, bro. Okay.
- 3:02Speaker 4: All right.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Next one. You got to remember this pitch. That's a ball.
- 3:06Speaker 1: You remember the pitch? I actually remember it getting over challenged. Cheater. Oh,
- 3:11Speaker 1: my gosh. Okay. I'm paying attention. All right. All right.
- 3:17Speaker 1: That's good. I'm glad you remember that. Point one. Point one. See,
- 3:20Speaker 1: that's the one. The human eye can't see that. Yeah,
- 3:23Speaker 1: you can't see that. That's all. Everybody's guessing at that point.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Okay, so next one. You're two for two, bro. Strike.
- 3:31Speaker 1: It's got to be a strike. Got to be. Right?
- 3:34Speaker 1: But because it's so obvious that it's a strike. It's
- 3:36Speaker 1: probably a ball. It may be a ball. But you
- 3:38Speaker 1: call it strike, though, right? Yeah, strike.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Three for three. I think this is the best start
- 3:46Speaker 2: we've had so far. This is the best start. I
- 3:48Speaker 2: could do that in the game.
- 3:50Speaker 1: I know, right? But you can't do both. You can't.
- 3:54Speaker 2: You're not going to be able to hit and like
- 3:56Speaker 2: to your point, you know. But you'll know the one
- 4:00Speaker 2: that's two inches, two, three inches off.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I know that one. Yeah. But the one that's close,
- 4:03Speaker 1: like to your point, I don't even know.
- 4:06Speaker 3: No.
- 4:07Speaker 1: There's been one time I challenged a high pitch and
- 4:09Speaker 1: I was like, dang, I know it's a strike.
- 4:11Speaker 2: And it was like two inches above your own. And
- 4:13Speaker 2: so I get exactly what you're saying.
- 4:16Speaker 1: All right. Next one. Ooh, I'm going ball.
- 4:25Speaker 5: Ah.
- 4:26Speaker 1: They didn't want you to be great, bro. That's fine.
- 4:28Speaker 1: That's fine.
- 4:28Speaker 3: I'll take three. It's already a win for me.
- 4:30Speaker 1: All right. So I'm picking it and I'm reading it.
- 4:34Speaker 1: You're answering the question. And answering it. All right.
- 4:36Speaker 3: What is the craziest game you've ever been a part of? Ooh,
- 4:41Speaker 3: that's a tough one. Craziest games probably was a game.
- 4:49Speaker 3: five of the world series um you know we had
- 4:55Speaker 3: to win one more um and Duvall ended up like
- 5:00Speaker 3: I think it was like first or second inning he
- 5:02Speaker 3: hits a opposite field grand slam and it was like
- 5:05Speaker 3: the loudest couldn't even hear yourself think and I was
- 5:08Speaker 3: like I was like this is this is it like
- 5:11Speaker 3: we're doing this and I ended up not we ended
- 5:14Speaker 3: up they ended up coming back and and uh and
- 5:16Speaker 3: beating us but it's like That whole, like, just, like,
- 5:19Speaker 3: rollercoaster of emotions of just Grand Slam.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Like, second inning.
- 5:23Speaker 3: We go up four or five, whatever it may have
- 5:26Speaker 3: been at the time. You just kind of was like,
- 5:29Speaker 3: it's happening. And, you know, they ended up coming back
- 5:32Speaker 3: and pushing the game six.
- 5:34Speaker 1: But that was nuts.
- 5:35Speaker 2: That's, like, when you go through emotions like that, that's
- 5:38Speaker 2: got to be hard. Like, to get that high emotionally
- 5:43Speaker 2: and then to finish the rest of the game and then.
- 5:47Speaker 2: i don't know tell me about it like is that
- 5:48Speaker 2: is that hard.
- 5:49Speaker 3: I mean yeah i mean you you know you've obviously
- 5:52Speaker 3: won multiple world series you've been a part of a
- 5:54Speaker 3: world series run and and just like you said every
- 5:57Speaker 3: every moment to just like it seems like everything when
- 6:01Speaker 3: you're getting a cup of water when you're getting like
- 6:02Speaker 3: it's like everything's like magnified and and just like the
- 6:05Speaker 3: the energy there so it's like to hit it i
- 6:08Speaker 3: mean and one to hit a grand slam in the
- 6:09Speaker 3: world series i mean that's that's pretty sick and and
- 6:12Speaker 3: i remember being on third base and and not being
- 6:15Speaker 3: able to hear yourself think or anything.
- 6:17Speaker 1: It's just like you said.
- 6:17Speaker 3: And then they ended up coming back and beating us
- 6:21Speaker 3: that game. So it was just like, you know, after
- 6:24Speaker 3: the game, you're like, you're so, you know, mentally tired.
- 6:28Speaker 3: And it's just like exhausting and all great at the
- 6:30Speaker 3: same time.
- 6:31Speaker 1: It's just, it's hard to explain.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:33Speaker 1: And it's like.
- 6:35Speaker 2: You're tired, but then you can't really go to sleep because,
- 6:38Speaker 2: you know, you got the adrenaline going and then, You
- 6:41Speaker 2: got to get ready for the game the next day.
- 6:43Speaker 1: And it's just a lot. Oh, it's a lot. It
- 6:45Speaker 1: becomes a lot. It's worth it, though. It is worth it. Okay,
- 6:47Speaker 1: so we got one more. All right, come on. Let's
- 6:51Speaker 1: go for the win right here. I'm going ball. Down. Down, right?
- 6:55Speaker 1: I think so. Oh, wow. Austin Riley, top of the leaderboard.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Four for five.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Come now.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Shout out to you, bro. That's what I'm talking about, bro.
- 7:06Speaker 1: That's what I'm talking about. Trust your gut. Yes. Remember that.
- 7:11Speaker 1: It's really what it comes down to. Yeah, yeah.
- 7:13Speaker 3: It's like how many times have I been like, even
- 7:15Speaker 3: like pitches that I'm like, ah, it's like my initial
- 7:18Speaker 3: reaction was like challenge it. I ended up not and
- 7:20Speaker 3: ended up being I should have challenged it.
- 7:22Speaker 1: It's like, trust your God. Well, in this game, you
- 7:25Speaker 1: got to try it. Try it today and see, buddy.
- 7:27Speaker 1: We'll see. We'll see.
- 7:28Speaker 5: All right.
- 7:28Speaker 2: So you guys have been playing great. What's been a
- 7:32Speaker 2: huge part of you guys turning it around?
- 7:34Speaker 3: You know, obviously last year was one of, you know,
- 7:36Speaker 3: just a year you try to forget. And we had,
- 7:39Speaker 3: you know, brought a lot of guys back. You know,
- 7:41Speaker 3: we made some ads. I think just.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Guys are having, you know, more years that they're used to.
- 7:49Speaker 3: You know, Ozzie's having a great year. Mike's having an
- 7:51Speaker 3: unbelievable year. Oli's doing his thing. And, you know, like
- 7:55Speaker 3: I said, the ads that we've made, you know, Dubon
- 7:57Speaker 3: has been absolutely huge for us.
- 8:00Speaker 1: He's a baller. Baller.
- 8:01Speaker 3: He's one of a kind. You know, Dom right at
- 8:05Speaker 3: the beginning was great. You know, like I said, I
- 8:08Speaker 3: think we're just kind of getting back to what we're
- 8:10Speaker 3: capable of doing, and guys are having years that they're
- 8:14Speaker 3: supposed to have. And, you know, from a pitching standpoint,
- 8:17Speaker 3: you know, pitchers are doing their job. I know there's
- 8:19Speaker 3: been a lot of talk of, you know, we should
- 8:20Speaker 3: have added and this, that, and the other. And, you know,
- 8:23Speaker 3: that's all great and speculation and talk. But, you know,
- 8:27Speaker 3: guys are going out there and doing their job from
- 8:29Speaker 3: a pitching standpoint. So I think, you know, we're getting–
- 8:31Speaker 3: Timely hits. You know, there's been ebbs and flows of
- 8:35Speaker 3: the year. You know that. We're going to have that.
- 8:38Speaker 3: I think it's just, you know, a group of guys
- 8:41Speaker 3: that have one common goal. They want to win. They're
- 8:43Speaker 3: not selfish. They don't care what their roles are. And, yeah,
- 8:47Speaker 3: I mean, like I said, it's been a fun year
- 8:50Speaker 3: so far.
- 8:50Speaker 1: And I was talking to Bryce.
- 8:53Speaker 2: I had him on the show, and he kind of mentioned,
- 8:56Speaker 2: you know, I had asked him who he thought the
- 9:00Speaker 2: biggest rival would be. for them yeah and i he's
- 9:04Speaker 2: he mentioned that you you guys play the the heat
- 9:07Speaker 2: most heated games mets are probably their biggest rival right
- 9:11Speaker 2: but uh you guys played the the most heated games
- 9:14Speaker 2: going back and forth would you agree with.
- 9:16Speaker 3: That i agree i think like first off when i
- 9:18Speaker 3: came in is like you know it's probably the mets
- 9:20Speaker 3: and i think historically it's it's been the mets you
- 9:23Speaker 3: know you think about like i think chipper named one
- 9:25Speaker 3: of his kids after the met stadium.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Like um.
- 9:29Speaker 3: But here, you know, especially after 21, 22, 23, like
- 9:32Speaker 3: those postseason games that we had and here recently trying to,
- 9:36Speaker 3: you know, they won the division the last two years.
- 9:39Speaker 3: I think historically it's the Mets, but here recently, the last,
- 9:43Speaker 3: you know, three, four, five years, it's.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Definitely been the Phillies.
- 9:46Speaker 2: And what is it about them? Is it just like
- 9:47Speaker 2: you know that they're going to come in? They got
- 9:49Speaker 2: a really good ball team. Yeah, really good ball club.
- 9:52Speaker 2: They're a really good team, no doubt about it.
- 9:56Speaker 3: It's gotten close here recently in the division, and I
- 10:01Speaker 3: think there's something about them playing– in Philly in a
- 10:06Speaker 3: postseason game, going to that stadium.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Um, it's, it's hostile. Yeah. It's hostile. My wife, my
- 10:11Speaker 1: wife won't go back. Oh really? No, no, she will not.
- 10:15Speaker 3: It's, it's, um, and I, you know, personally, I love
- 10:18Speaker 3: playing there because it is hostile. They do not like
- 10:20Speaker 3: us whatsoever.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Um, that's what makes it fun.
- 10:23Speaker 3: 100%. You, you want to play those games. So, um, I, yeah,
- 10:27Speaker 3: I definitely agree with him.
- 10:28Speaker 1: That's hilarious.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Uh, and then for you personally, you've been, uh, you've
- 10:32Speaker 2: had a good August. They call you, uh, August Austin.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Did you know that? I did not. August Austin.
- 10:39Speaker 3: I guess if you look at my numbers, they're not
- 10:41Speaker 3: bad throughout my career in August.
- 10:43Speaker 1: I guess so.
- 10:43Speaker 2: I mean, you know, I guess that's a good nickname
- 10:46Speaker 2: to have, you know, whatever it is, what it is.
- 10:48Speaker 2: And I know you were talking to Chipper back in
- 10:51Speaker 2: July earlier this year during BP and you have him
- 10:55Speaker 2: around and I'm sure a bunch of other people, but
- 10:57Speaker 2: Chipper in specific, like what has he done for you
- 11:00Speaker 2: or you know, is he just someone you kind of
- 11:02Speaker 2: talk to, you call when you're going through something, do
- 11:04Speaker 2: you ask him questions?
- 11:06Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, for sure. Okay, so what do you,
- 11:08Speaker 1: he's always there?
- 11:10Speaker 3: He's there, you know, once a home, you know, once
- 11:12Speaker 3: a home series, you know, he pops in and out, and,
- 11:14Speaker 3: you know, for me, the biggest thing that I've, like,
- 11:17Speaker 3: gained from him is just the approach and mental side
- 11:21Speaker 3: of the game, that chess match that, you know, he
- 11:23Speaker 3: was so good at, and Nowadays, like I said, everybody's
- 11:29Speaker 3: throwing 100. It's a four seam, it's a two seam,
- 11:31Speaker 3: it's a cutter. You've got guys coming out of the
- 11:33Speaker 3: pen that are throwing three different fastballs. How do I
- 11:37Speaker 3: game plan for that? I think he's been really good
- 11:41Speaker 3: at that. I naturally have a slide in my load.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Him being able to.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Talk to slow feet, lower body stuff, trying to keep
- 11:51Speaker 3: my head as still as possible. Um, that's, that's what
- 11:54Speaker 3: I've really valued, you know, you know, learning stuff from him. Um, and,
- 11:58Speaker 3: and like from a hitting standpoint, um, I say he's,
- 12:02Speaker 3: he's one of the best to ever do it.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Has he ever brought up like how much the game
- 12:06Speaker 2: has changed from when he played to now?
- 12:10Speaker 1: So how do you balance that? Because somebody like Chipper, right? Awesome. Yeah. Great.
- 12:16Speaker 2: You name it, he's done it. And then you put
- 12:20Speaker 2: it into today's game. Like, do you, does the things
- 12:23Speaker 2: that he say that worked for him then work now?
- 12:28Speaker 1: I think so.
- 12:29Speaker 3: Just because I think it's just more about, like, keeping
- 12:31Speaker 3: it simple. And I think that's what you have to do,
- 12:34Speaker 3: you know, in today's game is keep it simple. You know,
- 12:38Speaker 3: I think he talks a lot about just, like, keeping
- 12:41Speaker 3: the swing and the move short and quick. And I
- 12:45Speaker 3: think that that's really valuable. So, yeah, I think so. And,
- 12:48Speaker 3: like I said, he'll say it's like the game's changed. Um,
- 12:51Speaker 3: it's a lot, you know, it's a lot harder now,
- 12:52Speaker 3: I think. And, and, um, but yeah, I think just
- 12:56Speaker 3: like from a simplicity standpoint of how he talks about,
- 12:59Speaker 3: you know, your moves and, and how to, you know,
- 13:02Speaker 3: attack a hit or pitcher is, is, is, is similar
- 13:05Speaker 3: for sure.
- 13:06Speaker 2: And then having Acuna back, what's it been like, uh,
- 13:08Speaker 2: having him back? I know he was out for a
- 13:09Speaker 2: little while. Like what, when he comes back, what does
- 13:12Speaker 2: he bring? to the lineup, to the field, to everything
- 13:15Speaker 2: for you guys?
- 13:16Speaker 1: A lot.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Um, you know, it's tough to replace a Ronald. Um,
- 13:20Speaker 3: I've said that multiple times. It's just what he can do. Um,
- 13:23Speaker 3: not only just like presence in the box, you know,
- 13:26Speaker 3: for a pitcher, just, you know, have him at the
- 13:28Speaker 3: top of the lineup. You know, if he gets on,
- 13:30Speaker 3: you know, a walk, he gets on base next, you know,
- 13:31Speaker 3: he's on second and, and, um, you know, he can
- 13:34Speaker 3: flip a, he can flip a game really quick. Not,
- 13:36Speaker 3: not with just one swing of a bat. Um, With
- 13:39Speaker 3: his speed, with his arm.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Yeah. We just saw him do it in Milwaukee. That
- 13:43Speaker 1: was nasty. Yeah, it was gross.
- 13:44Speaker 2: And Lara, he's really fast. Like, that play. I mean, look, like,
- 13:50Speaker 2: you know, that's a really fast runner.
- 13:53Speaker 1: So I had a really good view of this because it's, like,
- 13:55Speaker 1: angled of me at third. So I was like, please go.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Please go.
- 14:00Speaker 3: I was like, he's going to throw a bullet right here.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Yeah. And it was. It was sick. That's like a
- 14:06Speaker 1: flat-footed throw right on the money.
- 14:09Speaker 3: He's got a long– and I'll tell you this. His
- 14:11Speaker 3: ball's coming– because I'll be the first to tell you,
- 14:13Speaker 3: I've missed a lot of balls from him at third
- 14:16Speaker 3: because it's a different animal.
- 14:19Speaker 5: Really?
- 14:19Speaker 1: When he comes out. Even last night. I think it
- 14:22Speaker 1: was last night.
- 14:23Speaker 3: It's like a ball so hard to catch because it's coming.
- 14:26Speaker 1: I mean, he's got a little tail on it. It's
- 14:27Speaker 1: just– He spins it really good.
- 14:30Speaker 2: I mean, it's just hard to– To your point, we
- 14:33Speaker 2: had a perfect view of that throw yesterday, and it just, yeah.
- 14:38Speaker 3: And you're short now. It's like those balls that are
- 14:40Speaker 3: coming in hot, short hops.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:43Speaker 2: It's a challenging throw. It's hard to catch. And then
- 14:46Speaker 2: I want to talk about another teammate, Olsen, you know,
- 14:49Speaker 2: since he's. He's came over. He's made a big difference. Well,
- 14:53Speaker 2: not a big difference, but a huge impact, should I say.
- 14:56Speaker 2: He's having another great season, you know, hitting a bunch
- 15:00Speaker 2: of homers, getting hits and whatnot.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Like, what has he added since he's come over? I mean,
- 15:04Speaker 1: just I think.
- 15:06Speaker 3: The perfect explanation of just, like, consistency. I mean, he's obviously,
- 15:13Speaker 3: you know, has over 900 games consistently played.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:20Speaker 3: It just, you know, he shows up every day. You know,
- 15:22Speaker 3: his routines is really, really impressive. You know, he's a
- 15:26Speaker 3: student of the game. You know, he's in the computer watching,
- 15:30Speaker 3: you know, pitchers trying to get an edge. And, yeah,
- 15:35Speaker 3: I mean, just the production, I mean, for itself. I mean,
- 15:37Speaker 3: he's going to hit 30 homers. He's going to drive
- 15:40Speaker 3: in close to 100 ribbies, if not more. I mean,
- 15:42Speaker 3: it's just– from a you know just taking it from
- 15:45Speaker 3: a manager standpoint knowing that you can plug him in
- 15:48Speaker 3: every day knowing you know what you're going to get
- 15:49Speaker 3: i think that's one of the most valuable things in
- 15:53Speaker 3: in our in our.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Game today have you learned taking anything from him um
- 15:57Speaker 1: as far as seeing how consistent he is and what
- 15:59Speaker 1: he and how he works like have you been.
- 16:02Speaker 3: Yeah i think i think i tried i tried to
- 16:05Speaker 3: i try to take something from from everybody it just
- 16:07Speaker 3: and you know for him it's just how he approached
- 16:09Speaker 3: the game every day and just, you know, he's going
- 16:11Speaker 3: to go through his ebbs and flows. And I think
- 16:13Speaker 3: the really good hitters, when you look at, you know,
- 16:16Speaker 3: what they do on a daily basis, whether they're, you know,
- 16:20Speaker 3: 10 for 10 or 0 for 10, it's like they
- 16:21Speaker 3: stay the same. And he's really good at that. And
- 16:26Speaker 3: like I said, I try to model that, you know,
- 16:28Speaker 3: try not to change, you know, it's crazy. It's like
- 16:30Speaker 3: when things are off, it's normally not as far as
- 16:33Speaker 3: you think it is. And it's like understanding how to
- 16:37Speaker 3: keep that, that focus and, and not forget that. Um,
- 16:42Speaker 3: I think, like I said, I think he's really, really
- 16:43Speaker 3: good at that.
- 16:44Speaker 2: What does he do to, to play that many, like
- 16:47Speaker 2: that many games in a row? Like, is there, does
- 16:49Speaker 2: he drink coffee or, you know, what is it, what
- 16:52Speaker 2: is it like to, to show.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Up for 900 games in a row? Uh, is it,
- 16:57Speaker 1: is there a secret that you see or anything?
- 17:00Speaker 3: No, I think he takes really good care of his
- 17:01Speaker 3: body and, and, um, You know, he always talks about,
- 17:05Speaker 3: I play for the tie, whatever it may be. And,
- 17:10Speaker 3: you know, I think he understands how to, you know,
- 17:13Speaker 3: he's obviously done it a long time, so I think
- 17:15Speaker 3: he's got a routine. And, yeah, you know, a lot
- 17:19Speaker 3: of it's a mindset. It's just like understanding, it's like, hey,
- 17:22Speaker 3: I'm showing up every day. I'm not going to feel 100%.
- 17:23Speaker 3: There's going to be days where I feel 80%, 75%.
- 17:28Speaker 3: But knowing, you know, at that point, I think he
- 17:30Speaker 3: has an idea of how, he can still be productive.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Um, so I think, like I said, a lot of
- 17:35Speaker 1: it's mindset.
- 17:36Speaker 2: What do you do on the days that you, when
- 17:39Speaker 2: you feel, you know, 75, 80%, you got in at
- 17:41Speaker 2: two in the morning.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:43Speaker 3: What do you do those days? You know, for me, it's, it's, um,
- 17:45Speaker 3: a lot of just recovery stuff. I try to, you know,
- 17:49Speaker 3: especially when we're on the road, um, try to lay
- 17:52Speaker 3: around and stay in bed as long as possible. Um,
- 17:55Speaker 3: I got two boys at the house and, and, uh,
- 17:57Speaker 3: at home at, you know, you try to be as
- 17:59Speaker 3: present there as possible. But like I said, certain times,
- 18:01Speaker 3: you know, whether it's, getting in the recovery boots, you know,
- 18:05Speaker 3: maybe a 20-minute nap right before the game.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Those are a beauty.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Yeah, the 20-minute naps are key sometimes. You know, I
- 18:16Speaker 2: was talking to Mizorowski on here, and he said he
- 18:20Speaker 2: never feels good. So it's weird to hear that Olsen
- 18:24Speaker 2: plays 900 games and– I mean, obviously, he doesn't feel
- 18:28Speaker 2: good all the time, but you have to feel good.
- 18:30Speaker 1: A lot to play that many games. Oh, yeah, for sure.
- 18:33Speaker 1: But then Mizorowski says he feels like 75%. All the time?
- 18:35Speaker 1: He does 104?
- 18:35Speaker 5: Exactly.
- 18:35Speaker 1: We just faced him. I was like, it's not fair.
- 18:37Speaker 3: Oh, it's like.
- 18:42Speaker 1: How do you not feel good and you're bumping 104? Yeah,
- 18:46Speaker 1: that's crazy. But it is what it is.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Another pitcher, Chris Sale, obviously, since he's come over, he's
- 18:50Speaker 2: been dominant. I got to play with Sale, and I
- 18:52Speaker 2: know how much of.
- 18:53Speaker 1: A beautiful person he is. Oh, he's great.
- 18:56Speaker 2: You know, he brings everything to the clubhouse, especially, you know,
- 19:02Speaker 2: not on the diamond, but in the clubhouse.
- 19:03Speaker 1: He's hanging out. He's talking.
- 19:06Speaker 2: But I really love him because when he's pitching, you
- 19:10Speaker 2: can't tell.
- 19:11Speaker 1: No.
- 19:13Speaker 2: He's the same person all the time. And I really
- 19:15Speaker 2: enjoy that about pitchers. But obviously he's having another great season.
- 19:21Speaker 2: What's it like having him from your perspective?
- 19:23Speaker 1: I'll say that I.
- 19:24Speaker 3: Was scared of him when he first came up.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Oh, really?
- 19:25Speaker 3: Because, you know, you hear the stories. And he's told them, like,
- 19:28Speaker 3: as far as, like, in Chicago where he cuts the jerseys.
- 19:31Speaker 3: And so I was like, I was like, I'm going
- 19:32Speaker 3: to be my P's and Q's. I'm going to just
- 19:34Speaker 3: kind of stay.
- 19:35Speaker 1: In my lane.
- 19:37Speaker 3: But he's like, man, he's the complete opposite. He's like
- 19:39Speaker 3: the best teammate. And like you said, it's like, Obviously
- 19:42Speaker 3: what he does, he's a bulldog on the mound. It's like,
- 19:45Speaker 3: you know, he he um you want him in the
- 19:47Speaker 3: game in big moments and and obviously you know for
- 19:50Speaker 3: me he's a he's a hall of famer no doubt
- 19:52Speaker 3: um but you know i think the the biggest thing
- 19:55Speaker 3: is just like you said when the days he's not
- 19:57Speaker 3: pitching he's engaged with with teammates and you know he's
- 20:00Speaker 3: he's you can talk to him even like on his
- 20:02Speaker 3: start days you know some pictures you don't you don't
- 20:04Speaker 3: talk to you don't look at um you know he's
- 20:07Speaker 3: he's out there you know he's still having a good
- 20:08Speaker 3: time on his start days and And, um, just like
- 20:12Speaker 3: I said, an unbelievable human, um, great teammate, you know, he's,
- 20:16Speaker 3: he's hilarious in his own way. Um, and it's just,
- 20:20Speaker 3: you know, he's been a, he's been a treat to,
- 20:22Speaker 3: to play with for sure.
- 20:23Speaker 1: And then you got Strider back this year. I'm showing
- 20:25Speaker 1: that helps a ton. Yeah. What's he like?
- 20:28Speaker 2: I've never, I've never gotten to really talk to him.
- 20:30Speaker 3: So Strider's kind of, you know, he's obviously, you know,
- 20:32Speaker 3: injured right now and, and, you know, hopefully we get
- 20:34Speaker 3: him back at some point, but, um, He's kind of
- 20:37Speaker 3: that other end of the spectrum.
- 20:38Speaker 1: He's on the other side. Yeah, he's very routine-oriented, very
- 20:45Speaker 1: P's and Q's. So would you go talk to him
- 20:48Speaker 1: before the game or no? I would maybe say early.
- 20:52Speaker 1: It depends on what time it is.
- 20:53Speaker 3: When he first gets there, yeah, I'll ask him a question,
- 20:56Speaker 3: but then it's kind of like it seems like you know,
- 20:58Speaker 3: after he, you know, eats his lunch, he's, you know, he's,
- 21:01Speaker 3: he's locked in and just kind of like, Hey, let.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Him do his thing. Yeah. Just a wave. Like, Hey, Hey,
- 21:06Speaker 1: throw him the ball. Hey, go get them pal.
- 21:08Speaker 3: Uh, but like you said, it's like some people, you know,
- 21:12Speaker 3: operate different and that's how he gets going. And, and, uh,
- 21:15Speaker 3: you know, another great teammate as well. So, um, you know,
- 21:18Speaker 3: everybody has their, their way of getting going.
- 21:20Speaker 1: All right. And then, uh, Walt Weiss, tell me about him.
- 21:23Speaker 2: I mean, he's a new skipper this year and, um,
- 21:28Speaker 2: He's kind of taken you guys through not playing well
- 21:32Speaker 2: to playing well. How has he been through the whole process?
- 21:36Speaker 3: He's been unbelievable. He's been just great, really. Whenever they
- 21:41Speaker 3: were going through that whole deal of who was going
- 21:44Speaker 3: to be our manager, if we were going to stay in-house,
- 21:46Speaker 3: that's who I wanted. I've obviously been with him my
- 21:50Speaker 3: whole career when he was with the bench coach.
- 21:54Speaker 1: But just super knowledgeable of the game.
- 21:55Speaker 3: He's kind of got that nice blend of of old
- 21:58Speaker 3: school a little bit, but also understands the new school
- 22:01Speaker 3: of the game and, and how to just like mesh
- 22:04Speaker 3: that and how to, you know, I had a really
- 22:07Speaker 3: good conversation because obviously, you know, had a, you know, not,
- 22:10Speaker 3: not a very good year and, and had a really
- 22:12Speaker 3: good conversation with him early on about a month or
- 22:15Speaker 3: so ago of just like, you know, chasing, kind of
- 22:18Speaker 3: chasing old fields of 21, 22, 23. And, and, you know,
- 22:21Speaker 3: he gave me some advice of, you know, he, he
- 22:23Speaker 3: did that in his career and, and how you can
- 22:25Speaker 3: kind of run down a rabbit hole and how it
- 22:27Speaker 3: can spiral and, And so it kind of changed my
- 22:29Speaker 3: perspective on, on hitting a little bit of just, you know,
- 22:33Speaker 3: my body's changed.
- 22:34Speaker 1: I've had a wrist injury.
- 22:36Speaker 3: I've had a lower abdominal injury and, you know, my,
- 22:39Speaker 3: like I said, my body's changed. So it's like trying to,
- 22:42Speaker 3: trying to not learn my swing, but just like understanding
- 22:45Speaker 3: that old feels and old cues, you know, they may
- 22:48Speaker 3: not work now. It's like how to, how to find,
- 22:52Speaker 3: find what works for me. And that's been, that's been,
- 22:54Speaker 3: like I said, something from, from him has been huge
- 22:57Speaker 3: for me. And there's just no panic. I mean, the
- 23:01Speaker 3: man's got cauliflower here. It's like, you don't want to
- 23:03Speaker 3: mess with him.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Speaking of cauliflower, you know he does, he taekwondo.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Yeah, he's, I mean, you saw the brawl we had
- 23:09Speaker 3: with the Angels.
- 23:11Speaker 1: He probably, he was all in on that. Oh, yeah.
- 23:14Speaker 3: I mean, like I said, just an unbelievable perfection of
- 23:18Speaker 3: form tackle right here.
- 23:21Speaker 1: And I got snipered. from the top deck.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Yeah i fell did you okay so you're in the
- 23:26Speaker 2: middle of that like and when you go down like
- 23:29Speaker 2: what are you thinking did you get stepped on at.
- 23:31Speaker 3: All yeah so i think it was mateo and i
- 23:33Speaker 3: talked to mateo i was like man i was like
- 23:36Speaker 3: immediately i was like man my buddies are gonna absolutely
- 23:38Speaker 3: ride me on this.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Um oh he pushed you down yeah um.
- 23:45Speaker 3: But now i i you know I played with Solaire,
- 23:48Speaker 3: so he's like a big teddy bear.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Oh, really? Oh, yeah.
- 23:51Speaker 3: So this was like, was not expecting that whatsoever. And then,
- 23:56Speaker 3: like I said, Walt just, you know, forearm tackling.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Yep. Yeah, you just, you don't mess with Walt.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Oh, so do you think, like, if there was a
- 24:07Speaker 2: big league manager fight or whatever, like, he would have
- 24:14Speaker 2: to be one of the favorites, right?
- 24:16Speaker 1: I mean, cause he did. He's my one, one. If
- 24:18Speaker 1: you're a black belt in Taekwondo.
- 24:20Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 24:21Speaker 1: I mean, have you seen his forearms?
- 24:22Speaker 3: He's got like two baseballs right here.
- 24:26Speaker 1: He works out all the time. Yeah. He's in the
- 24:28Speaker 1: gym every day. He's in the gym every day.
- 24:29Speaker 3: When we first get there, he's in the gym getting,
- 24:31Speaker 3: getting after it.
- 24:32Speaker 1: So, uh, good for him. Yeah. Right.
- 24:34Speaker 2: I want to talk a little bit about the vibes
- 24:35Speaker 2: in the clubhouse. I know like, like we mentioned earlier, uh,
- 24:40Speaker 2: Dubon is a beautiful human. Um, And I know he
- 24:44Speaker 2: kind of, can you tell me about Doobie's Disco?
- 24:48Speaker 1: Doobie's Disco?
- 24:49Speaker 2: Doobie's Disco. Do you know about, like, I guess he
- 24:52Speaker 2: came in in the clubhouse.
- 24:54Speaker 1: He had music. He had sage. He had a disco ball, lights,
- 24:58Speaker 1: all that stuff. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, so can
- 25:01Speaker 1: you tell me? He's all about the vibes. Vibes. He's
- 25:03Speaker 1: a big vibes guy. Big vibes guy.
- 25:05Speaker 3: You know, he's very engaged. And, yeah, he came in
- 25:09Speaker 3: one day. You know, he carries around this big, he
- 25:13Speaker 3: carries it on the bus too. Like this big speaker.
- 25:16Speaker 3: That's about this big. That's got wheels on it. And he,
- 25:18Speaker 3: he lugs that thing around. Uh, so does Dom Smith.
- 25:21Speaker 3: So we got one at the front of the bus,
- 25:22Speaker 3: one of the back.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Of the bus. Oh, you got two. Yeah. Are they connected? Uh, no, no.
- 25:28Speaker 1: So you got two different music. Sometimes. Yeah.
- 25:30Speaker 3: We try to, we try to, you know, one at
- 25:32Speaker 3: a time, but you know, um, but no, like I said, just, um,
- 25:37Speaker 3: unbelievable vibes. He's, uh, he's, he's, He's a beauty.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Yeah, that's all you can really say.
- 25:46Speaker 3: He's a beauty.
- 25:47Speaker 1: I do want to ask about Ella's Fellas. Ella's Fellas? Okay.
- 25:54Speaker 1: I mean, tell me about Ella. Like, that's you guys? Like,
- 25:57Speaker 1: you guys love Ella Langley?
- 25:59Speaker 3: Ella Langley.
- 25:59Speaker 1: She's good. I don't want to get in trouble with
- 26:01Speaker 1: my wife. Oh, well, I mean, like, the music. Yeah,
- 26:03Speaker 1: the music's great.
- 26:04Speaker 3: You know, all his walk-up songs. One of his walk-up
- 26:07Speaker 3: songs is Ella.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Okay. And she was played. She had a concert here.
- 26:12Speaker 1: And you guys all went? We were on the road. Oh,
- 26:15Speaker 1: you were on the road. Our wives went. Okay, of course.
- 26:17Speaker 1: So they got to enjoy it.
- 26:19Speaker 3: But no, I think there was a shirt that was
- 26:21Speaker 3: made that said Ellis Fellows.
- 26:24Speaker 1: We wore it around, but nothing crazy.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Do you guys have another artist like that that you
- 26:30Speaker 2: always listen to?
- 26:33Speaker 1: No, we bounce it around. You have to. Money Mike's
- 26:37Speaker 1: on the aux. Oh, he's on the aux. Yeah, so
- 26:39Speaker 1: he's on the aux in the clubhouse. It's not Doobie.
- 26:41Speaker 3: Doobie's on the bus, he will, like in the back.
- 26:45Speaker 3: But in the clubhouse, it's Money Mike.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Money Mike. And he's got it dialed in. He's dialed in.
- 26:50Speaker 1: He's dialed in. He looks like he would have it
- 26:53Speaker 1: dialed in. He had to get.
- 26:55Speaker 3: The voice going. Whatever genre you want, he's got it.
- 26:59Speaker 1: He's good at it. Okay, and then I know.
- 27:03Speaker 2: You guys have like a player of the game situation
- 27:05Speaker 2: where I guess after the game you had to make
- 27:08Speaker 2: a putt.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Yeah, make a putt. Okay, so tell me how did
- 27:11Speaker 1: that start? So that's Ole's idea. Okay. And it was
- 27:14Speaker 1: just like one of those things where, you know, after
- 27:16Speaker 1: games we just weren't doing anything.
- 27:17Speaker 3: It was like, hey, good job. And Ole was like, man,
- 27:19Speaker 3: we got to get the boys together. So we got
- 27:23Speaker 3: a big chain. We got like a coat that says
- 27:26Speaker 3: player of the game and one end of the clubhouse
- 27:29Speaker 3: to the other end.
- 27:30Speaker 1: How long of a putt is this? gotta be like
- 27:34Speaker 1: a 40 yeah.
- 27:34Speaker 3: It's probably close to 40 foot um and you know
- 27:38Speaker 3: pick the you know maybe one maybe two maybe three
- 27:41Speaker 3: depending on the situation of the game uh everybody gets
- 27:44Speaker 3: a putt and if you make it you may or
- 27:47Speaker 3: may not get some cash for.
- 27:48Speaker 2: It so do you have to everybody has to put
- 27:50Speaker 2: in to the pot or like how does that work.
- 27:52Speaker 3: How does the pot work so Ole supplies it oh
- 27:55Speaker 3: just Ole supplies yeah and then if.
- 27:56Speaker 1: You miss you uh you gotta put 20 in.
- 27:59Speaker 2: So it's a nice little fun game so what's the
- 28:01Speaker 2: biggest pot that's been won so far.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Shoot, it's been a couple grand. A couple grand. Nice.
- 28:10Speaker 1: And have you made a putt? Oh, yeah. Don't ask
- 28:13Speaker 1: all that about it. Oh, okay. Well, no, I want
- 28:17Speaker 1: to ask you about it. Okay, so tell me about it.
- 28:19Speaker 1: You got in. You were feeling good. You got over
- 28:21Speaker 1: the putt. Tell me about it, bro. Yeah, I mean,
- 28:25Speaker 1: you're locked in. Everybody's lined up watching. Oh, yeah, everybody's
- 28:28Speaker 1: lined up watching it.
- 28:30Speaker 3: And our clubhouse is a little right-to-left breaker. I've learned
- 28:35Speaker 3: that over the few putts. And, yeah, I think I
- 28:40Speaker 3: made two or.
- 28:42Speaker 1: Three in a row. Oh, did you? And I was like, bro,
- 28:44Speaker 1: come on, you got to stop making them. That's hilarious.
- 28:48Speaker 1: So has anybody else made any?
- 28:51Speaker 2: Like when Acuna putts? Because I'm assuming he's not a golfer.
- 28:56Speaker 3: No.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Just assuming. You know, not to throw shade, but like,
- 28:58Speaker 1: you know, love Ronnie, love Ozzie.
- 29:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:02Speaker 1: I mean, we've hit some chairs. No, they're nowhere near it. Yeah,
- 29:07Speaker 1: it's a little tough. Okay.
- 29:09Speaker 3: You know, if you play golf, you typically.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Are going to be close. For sure.
- 29:12Speaker 3: And, you know, we've had some guys just absolutely blow
- 29:15Speaker 3: it by. You know, it's all fun and games. Yeah,
- 29:18Speaker 3: for sure, for sure. And if you really make a
- 29:21Speaker 3: bad putt, you might get booed a little bit. All right,
- 29:24Speaker 3: but at least you're going to play the game. All right,
- 29:26Speaker 3: we've got a break in the action.
- 29:27Speaker 2: This is the Heart of the Fan Hotline presented by
- 29:30Speaker 2: Panda Express. The heart of authentically cooked American Chinese cuisine.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Do you eat Panda Express? I love Panda. Love Panda.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Love Panda. Wow, okay.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Uh so there's a a voicemail um that they're going
- 29:43Speaker 2: to ask us a couple questions um we got uh
- 29:46Speaker 2: john from connecticut.
- 29:49Speaker 5: Hey mookie it's john from connecticut I saw a tweet
- 29:53Speaker 5: the other day that talked about your stat line with
- 29:56Speaker 5: the Red Sox and your stat line with the Dodgers
- 29:58Speaker 5: through 794 games. The stat lines are pretty similar. Which
- 30:03Speaker 5: version of yourself do you think is the better overall player?
- 30:09Speaker 1: Oh, it's a great question, John from Connecticut.
- 30:16Speaker 2: I don't really know. I mean, you know, I feel
- 30:19Speaker 2: like I'm, Two different people. When I was at the
- 30:22Speaker 2: Red Sox, I was much younger, so I was way
- 30:24Speaker 2: more dynamic. Hit leadoff, so... You know, I was running
- 30:30Speaker 2: ceiling bases, doing a whole bunch of other stuff. And now,
- 30:32Speaker 2: the game is just... My game is just completely different.
- 30:36Speaker 1: I would probably have to say... The better overall would
- 30:41Speaker 1: probably have to be... As a Red Sox, I would
- 30:46Speaker 1: probably say. I was... just still.
- 30:49Speaker 2: A more basis more dynamic um than now i feel
- 30:52Speaker 2: like i've been um pretty good as a dodger too
- 30:55Speaker 2: but i guess with it being so close um you
- 31:00Speaker 2: know they're pretty consistent which i try and hang my
- 31:02Speaker 2: hat on it's being consistent right just like olsen we
- 31:05Speaker 2: all want to be consistent because it's it's the name
- 31:08Speaker 2: of the game yeah that's what the game is you
- 31:10Speaker 2: know so uh but yeah i would say probably as
- 31:13Speaker 2: a red sock do we have another question.
- 31:16Speaker 4: Hey, what's going on, Mookie? This is Brian. Wanted to
- 31:18Speaker 4: ask you, if you were MLB commissioner for a day
- 31:21Speaker 4: and you were able to change three different things in
- 31:25Speaker 4: anything for today's game, what would they be and why?
- 31:28Speaker 4: Go Dodgers.
- 31:31Speaker 1: You got to help me with this one. I already
- 31:32Speaker 1: got one whenever you're ready. Oh, go. You pop it off.
- 31:35Speaker 1: Change it back to seven-inning doubleheaders. Oh, seven-inning doubleheaders was huge.
- 31:40Speaker 1: So huge. Oh, man, I remember that. They were great. Yeah,
- 31:43Speaker 1: they were great. Nobody really minded playing doubleheaders. No, you were, like, honestly, like,
- 31:48Speaker 1: kind of begging for some doubleheaders. Yeah.
- 31:50Speaker 3: It's, like, it's different than 0 for 8 or 0
- 31:54Speaker 3: for 9.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Than 0 for 6. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 31:57Speaker 3: And as I said, we play every day. It's, like,
- 32:00Speaker 3: seven innings is a lot better. It's crazy, two innings,
- 32:03Speaker 3: but it makes a world of a difference.
- 32:04Speaker 1: It makes a world of a difference. Just a seven-inning game.
- 32:06Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 32:07Speaker 1: I mean that. Touch me. Yeah. Okay. So that's one.
- 32:10Speaker 1: I wholeheartedly agree with that.
- 32:12Speaker 2: I think I would go with the, uh, I think
- 32:14Speaker 2: I would go with like the break, the all-star break
- 32:16Speaker 2: being a week.
- 32:17Speaker 1: I think I would want that to be a week,
- 32:19Speaker 1: you know.
- 32:19Speaker 2: Just to, cause it's long enough to like, as soon
- 32:24Speaker 2: as your brain starts to get into rest mode, you're
- 32:29Speaker 2: right back, right back to it. So, um, you gotta, um,
- 32:32Speaker 2: confuse yourself. And now, um, I don't know what the
- 32:36Speaker 2: last one would be. I would say, you don't have
- 32:47Speaker 2: any more?
- 32:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I got another one. All right, let's go. I'm
- 32:50Speaker 1: saying the getaway days. Oh, yeah. No later than like
- 32:56Speaker 1: 3 o'clock. No, no, no. It's got to be a
- 32:58Speaker 1: day game.
- 32:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:59Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Because we have, yeah. Two hour delays. There's another one.
- 33:03Speaker 5: Okay.
- 33:04Speaker 3: We just get a bunch of rain here, so.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. I don't know what that is. We don't
- 33:09Speaker 1: have rain. So, yeah.
- 33:10Speaker 2: But I definitely understand that, the delays and whatnot. But
- 33:15Speaker 2: for sure, the night games to get away. Because there's
- 33:19Speaker 2: so many times you'll get in at 2 and 3
- 33:21Speaker 2: in the morning.
- 33:21Speaker 1: No doubt. And then have to.
- 33:23Speaker 2: You're changing time zones, didn't have to play that day.
- 33:25Speaker 2: And it's not really that day that it affects you.
- 33:27Speaker 2: It's really the next couple days.
- 33:29Speaker 1: For sure. So I would definitely say, yeah, those three
- 33:33Speaker 1: are good. I like it. It's good to get some stuff,
- 33:35Speaker 1: some good stuff. You may have yourself a job at
- 33:38Speaker 1: the front office.
- 33:38Speaker 3: I don't know if I want that one.
- 33:42Speaker 2: I want to talk a little bit about the World Series,
- 33:46Speaker 2: your World Series runs. Being a World Series champion, like
- 33:49Speaker 2: when you walk around, Like, does that, does that feel good?
- 33:53Speaker 2: People talk and bring it up all the time.
- 33:55Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, they, they do.
- 33:56Speaker 3: And, and it's, it's the ultimate goal. I mean, it's
- 34:00Speaker 3: what you play the game with. I mean, I think
- 34:02Speaker 3: back in, you know, my little self, you know, in
- 34:06Speaker 3: the backyard, it's like three, two, two outs, bottom of
- 34:08Speaker 3: the ninth world series. It's like, you know, it's, you
- 34:11Speaker 3: dream of it as a little kid and, and to
- 34:13Speaker 3: be able to, to win one, um, you know, nobody
- 34:17Speaker 3: can ever take that from you forever.
- 34:18Speaker 1: It's like your wheelchair, your world series champion forever.
- 34:21Speaker 2: What do you think, um, you know, through that whole
- 34:24Speaker 2: run was like the, the, the main thing that you
- 34:27Speaker 2: guys did or something that happened that helped, um, propel you.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Guys through the whole thing. Man, if you, if you remember,
- 34:34Speaker 1: we were, we weren't very, we were not in a
- 34:37Speaker 1: good spot, like leading up into August. Yeah. You were
- 34:39Speaker 1: 51 and 52. Yeah.
- 34:40Speaker 3: And it's just, we got hot at the right time. Um,
- 34:45Speaker 3: and you know, Rosario, Solaire, the acquisitions that we got
- 34:48Speaker 3: at the trade deadline and Duvall and, and, um, yeah,
- 34:52Speaker 3: I mean, we just had some key guys get hot
- 34:55Speaker 3: at the right time. Um, and, and ultimately that's what,
- 34:59Speaker 3: what it's about in the, in the playoffs.
- 35:01Speaker 1: Yeah. And jock shoot the pearls. I mean, the pearls.
- 35:05Speaker 3: Yeah. Like I said, I think we, we had some
- 35:07Speaker 3: guys get hot at the right time and got some,
- 35:09Speaker 3: some big key hits and, and pitched, um, really well
- 35:13Speaker 3: at the right time I mean that's about you know
- 35:16Speaker 3: I think you can hang your can you hang your
- 35:18Speaker 3: hat on that that run for us.
- 35:19Speaker 2: And you named all the guys that came but you
- 35:21Speaker 2: guys had Freddie yeah Ozzie Dansby and yourself in the
- 35:26Speaker 2: infield and like you guys were rocking and rolling really
- 35:30Speaker 2: really all year but like at the right time you
- 35:34Speaker 2: guys were rocking and rolling that's got to be you
- 35:36Speaker 2: know you've played obviously you know for the Braves and
- 35:39Speaker 2: whatnot and you've had different infielders but that's gotta be
- 35:42Speaker 2: one of the best infields you've ever.
- 35:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:44Speaker 3: That, that, that core, like I said, with Freddie, Ozzie, Dansby, me, um, yeah,
- 35:49Speaker 3: that's a really, really good infield at the, at the time. And, and, um,
- 35:54Speaker 3: you know, I, I think about like, you know, it
- 35:55Speaker 3: seems like everybody had big key hits, you know, Freddie,
- 35:58Speaker 3: you know, against Milwaukee, the Homer, um, against Hader. It's,
- 36:02Speaker 3: you know, Dansby, Homer, you know, back-to-back Homers, him and, um,
- 36:07Speaker 3: you know, Solaire against, against Houston.
- 36:10Speaker 1: Um, Yeah, I had a couple big key hits. Ozzie
- 36:13Speaker 1: had a couple big key hits.
- 36:14Speaker 3: Yeah, it was just an overall team effort that just
- 36:19Speaker 3: got hot.
- 36:19Speaker 1: That's how you win. I mean, and, you know, what's
- 36:22Speaker 1: crazy is that's when Acuna got hurt. And when he
- 36:26Speaker 1: got hurt, like, what was it like? Because, you know,
- 36:29Speaker 1: from the outside, it was like, oh.
- 36:31Speaker 3: That's punching the gut.
- 36:32Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Like, when Acuna's hurt, like, they're not– not that they're
- 36:36Speaker 2: not good, but that's– You can't replace that.
- 36:38Speaker 1: Yeah, like I said, you can't replace. You can't replace Ronnie.
- 36:41Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? Yeah. But you didn't. How
- 36:43Speaker 1: did that feel, should I say, when he went down?
- 36:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I remember, like it was yesterday in Miami when
- 36:48Speaker 3: he went down. And, you know, I felt like we
- 36:52Speaker 3: were starting to kind of get where we wanted to be.
- 36:54Speaker 3: And then you take that blow. It's, like I said,
- 36:58Speaker 3: it's a gut punch. And, you know, you start kind
- 37:00Speaker 3: of questioning, you know, how things are going to, you know,
- 37:02Speaker 3: play out.
- 37:04Speaker 1: And, you know, you kind of go back to it.
- 37:06Speaker 1: It's like jock.
- 37:07Speaker 3: Solaire, Eddie, Rosario, it's like those guys stepped up huge
- 37:12Speaker 3: for us in the outfield. And Duvall, like I said,
- 37:16Speaker 3: it's just stepping up.
- 37:18Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what it is.
- 37:19Speaker 2: You know what's crazy is thinking about it now, like
- 37:23Speaker 2: it took, you know, four different guys to have big
- 37:29Speaker 2: moments and were– that was the way to replace Acuna.
- 37:34Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? It takes four people to
- 37:37Speaker 2: replace one guy. But, I mean, again, to your point,
- 37:41Speaker 2: you know, it's always going to be a team effort,
- 37:43Speaker 2: and it's always going to be, you know, something like that.
- 37:46Speaker 1: You remember Solaris Homer, the over the tracks?
- 37:51Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 37:51Speaker 1: Do you know how far it went? I don't remember
- 37:54Speaker 1: how far it went. I remember watching this, too. Oh, yeah. Yeah,
- 37:59Speaker 1: I was like, good gosh. They said 440. I think
- 38:02Speaker 1: that's got to be 500.
- 38:03Speaker 3: Yeah, there's definitely with StatCast and some homers that I've
- 38:08Speaker 3: seen hit over the years, I'm like, there's no way.
- 38:11Speaker 1: It didn't go further.
- 38:13Speaker 2: I remember watching that homer, and I think I knew,
- 38:16Speaker 2: I'm like, they're getting too many big hits at the
- 38:23Speaker 2: right time. You could watch in really any game, you
- 38:28Speaker 2: could say like, oh, man, they got a two-out hit
- 38:30Speaker 2: in the third inning.
- 38:32Speaker 1: They got another one out or whatever in the fifth inning.
- 38:34Speaker 2: Like, they're probably going to win this game because they're
- 38:36Speaker 2: winning all the moments.
- 38:37Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure. You guys won a lot of moments.
- 38:39Speaker 2: I do want to say again, I think I've said
- 38:42Speaker 2: it on air, you know, about Matzik, Tyler Matzik.
- 38:46Speaker 1: And, you know, because he played a huge part in–
- 38:51Speaker 1: He gave his career that year pretty much. Yeah, yeah,
- 38:53Speaker 1: which was unreal.
- 38:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:56Speaker 5: Unreal.
- 38:57Speaker 1: Real. Yeah, I know that inning you're talking about.
- 38:59Speaker 3: That inning, it was.
- 39:01Speaker 1: I mean, it wasn't even just that inning because it
- 39:03Speaker 1: was throughout the whole playoffs and everything. He did it
- 39:06Speaker 1: all for that whole year, really.
- 39:09Speaker 2: But, like, I don't know what he did or what
- 39:13Speaker 2: came on him, but dude, that was unreal what he did.
- 39:18Speaker 2: Did he ever say anything? I don't know if it
- 39:22Speaker 2: was just.
- 39:24Speaker 3: Because, I mean, I think he was He had sat, like, 94, 95, like,
- 39:27Speaker 3: throughout the season, and I think he was, like, pumping, like... 98, 99.
- 39:32Speaker 1: But it was– It's like invisible.
- 39:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:36Speaker 1: And he's through fastballs. Yeah.
- 39:37Speaker 3: And you knew it was coming. We see some guys
- 39:39Speaker 3: like that today. It's like, you know what's coming. It's like,
- 39:43Speaker 3: I still can't hit it. I still can't hit it.
- 39:45Speaker 3: It was, like I said, he pretty much– gave his
- 39:47Speaker 3: career for that run right there.
- 39:50Speaker 1: Did he ever talk about it or talk about what
- 39:54Speaker 1: he did? Not like in a boasting, you know, whatever way,
- 39:57Speaker 1: but like, you know, that was really cool or, man,
- 40:00Speaker 1: that was awesome what I did. Not really.
- 40:03Speaker 3: Like I said, pretty humble guy. He just wanted the
- 40:06Speaker 3: ball and went out there and did it. And like
- 40:11Speaker 3: I said, to me, really that inning alone right there
- 40:15Speaker 3: was one of the bigger– moments in that run.
- 40:19Speaker 2: As you were going through that inning and you saw
- 40:22Speaker 2: it kind of unfolding and you saw, like, okay, they
- 40:24Speaker 2: can't hit it, what were you– because.
- 40:27Speaker 1: Being on the other side. Was it runner on third?
- 40:30Speaker 1: Runner on second and third?
- 40:33Speaker 3: Something like that.
- 40:33Speaker 2: It was something like– yeah, it was second and third,
- 40:37Speaker 2: I think. And, you know, as an infielder, I know, like, okay,
- 40:41Speaker 2: they can't see this. They're not hitting this. And very
- 40:44Speaker 2: rarely do you ever really see– somebody throwing a pitch that.
- 40:48Speaker 1: Nobody can hit.
- 40:50Speaker 2: Like at some point, you know, maybe a guy didn't
- 40:53Speaker 2: hit it, but then the next guy, you know, he's
- 40:54Speaker 2: going to foul off or do whatever.
- 40:56Speaker 1: Like we weren't touching it, you know? So like, what
- 40:59Speaker 1: were you, what was going through your mind? For me,
- 41:01Speaker 1: it's like, you know, you kind of play it by outs.
- 41:04Speaker 3: It's like, all right, we just got to figure out
- 41:06Speaker 3: a way to get like a pop-up or a strikeout
- 41:08Speaker 3: and then field, keep this here. And then it's like, bam, strikeout.
- 41:12Speaker 3: It's like, okay, let's just get us one more. It's like,
- 41:14Speaker 3: so you're just like, You're self-talking, pumping me up, trying
- 41:19Speaker 3: to pump him up without saying anything. And then, like
- 41:23Speaker 3: I said, it happens again, and then he does it again. Really,
- 41:27Speaker 3: it's like, I can't believe it happened.
- 41:31Speaker 1: Not that. There's other ways.
- 41:34Speaker 2: Usually you get a punchy, and then you may get
- 41:37Speaker 2: a handful fly or something.
- 41:41Speaker 1: Three punchies. Man, that was awesome. It was crazy.
- 41:45Speaker 2: And, honestly, like, being on the other side, you know,
- 41:49Speaker 2: on the side, obviously, that it happened to, at the time,
- 41:52Speaker 2: it sucked. But I can definitely take a step back
- 41:55Speaker 2: and say, like.
- 41:55Speaker 1: Dude, that was awesome. Like, that was not me to
- 42:00Speaker 1: be here. Yeah, like you said, you kind of appreciate
- 42:03Speaker 1: the moments. Yeah, you did, for sure, for sure.
- 42:05Speaker 3: In that game.
- 42:05Speaker 1: For sure.
- 42:06Speaker 6: And then I want to go a little bit on
- 42:08Speaker 6: the– in 2020, we had a battle in the CS
- 42:13Speaker 6: in– first of all, the bubble, did you enjoy the bubble?
- 42:17Speaker 1: Uh, no.
- 42:18Speaker 3: Cause I'm like, I have like ADD. I can't sit still.
- 42:22Speaker 3: It's like, I'm confined in this, this bubble. Um, yeah,
- 42:26Speaker 3: it drove me nuts.
- 42:28Speaker 1: It wasn't, it wasn't a whole lot of fun, but, uh,
- 42:31Speaker 1: you know, you gotta do what you gotta do. That's right.
- 42:33Speaker 2: I remember what was weird was we were playing against
- 42:35Speaker 2: each other, but then we were staying with each other
- 42:38Speaker 2: at the, at the hotel.
- 42:39Speaker 3: So it was like, So you see, you know, you
- 42:41Speaker 3: just face the guy who just struck me out, and
- 42:43Speaker 3: I see him next day getting coffee.
- 42:44Speaker 2: Yeah, like, I don't really want to talk to you
- 42:46Speaker 2: right now, but, you know, as a dude, as a
- 42:48Speaker 2: part of it, you know, we're going to talk and
- 42:51Speaker 2: do whatever we need to do. I remember so much
- 42:57Speaker 2: about that battle.
- 42:58Speaker 1: I thought we were going to lose. You guys, I mean.
- 43:01Speaker 1: What did we get? We went up three. I think
- 43:03Speaker 1: it was 3-1, and I'm like, golly. You guys were rolling. Yeah.
- 43:08Speaker 1: How did you feel? How did you guys feel, you know,
- 43:10Speaker 1: through the bubble at that time? It was tough.
- 43:13Speaker 3: Like I said, going up 3-1 against you guys, it's
- 43:17Speaker 3: like I said, one of those things that's like, man,
- 43:19Speaker 3: we just got to win one more.
- 43:21Speaker 1: One more. One more. And that one more is so hard.
- 43:25Speaker 1: So hard. It's so hard.
- 43:26Speaker 3: Because in those moments, it's like I talked about earlier,
- 43:28Speaker 3: it's like everything is magnified. Everything has like, everything has
- 43:33Speaker 3: pressure on it. And, you know, I was, shoot, I
- 43:37Speaker 3: was 23, um, at the time and I was playing,
- 43:41Speaker 3: I think left field some, um, had a misplay out there.
- 43:45Speaker 3: I had a base running error that kind of big
- 43:47Speaker 3: call that cost us, um, you know, got doubled off.
- 43:50Speaker 1: So it's like, you know, you look back.
- 43:51Speaker 3: At those moments and it's like, it has a lot
- 43:53Speaker 3: of learning experience and, and, you know, it helped me.
- 43:56Speaker 1: Later, later on.
- 43:57Speaker 3: But, you know, I think about it's like Mark Akis,
- 44:00Speaker 3: that was his last year. It was like, you know,
- 44:02Speaker 3: you know, he played the game so long and, And,
- 44:04Speaker 3: you know, you want to win for those guys that
- 44:07Speaker 3: have put all that time in. And it's like, you know,
- 44:09Speaker 3: some of those mental errors that I had, it's like,
- 44:11Speaker 3: you know, you kick.
- 44:12Speaker 1: Yourself a little bit. But, yeah, it was a crazy experience.
- 44:17Speaker 3: You know, kudos to you all for going after it.
- 44:21Speaker 1: Was that your first game seven?
- 44:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:23Speaker 2: How were you going into that game seven? Because I
- 44:27Speaker 2: remember going into that game seven, and I'm like, whew. Like,
- 44:32Speaker 2: you know, it's easy to say– You know, it's just
- 44:36Speaker 2: game seven. You know, it's another game, whatever. But it's
- 44:40Speaker 2: like it's different.
- 44:40Speaker 1: When you have to win. Like you have to win.
- 44:42Speaker 1: You have to win today. No doubt.
- 44:44Speaker 2: And there's nine innings. There's 27 outs. Like you cannot
- 44:47Speaker 2: mess up at all. Like, you know, so having that
- 44:49Speaker 2: pressure was– I was nervous.
- 44:52Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. You know, so like for you. Definitely nervous.
- 44:54Speaker 3: I think it's natural, but it's– like you said, it's
- 44:57Speaker 3: like if I don't win this game, I'm going home.
- 44:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 45:00Speaker 3: And so it's like you said, I think just the
- 45:03Speaker 3: added pressure of of trying to get that knock, do
- 45:07Speaker 3: too much. And you know how it goes. It's like,
- 45:10Speaker 3: you know, you got to stay inside yourself. And, you know,
- 45:15Speaker 3: we didn't get those timely hits and, you know, ultimately
- 45:18Speaker 3: went home. But like I said, a lot of pressure.
- 45:22Speaker 3: Like I said, it's all part of it. And, you know,
- 45:27Speaker 3: learning curve, learning experience, and you just try to take
- 45:30Speaker 3: that and grow from it.
- 45:32Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. I want to talk a little bit about, um,
- 45:36Speaker 1: playing with Freddie. We've both gotten to play with Freddie.
- 45:39Speaker 1: He was probably your first example of someone that shows
- 45:43Speaker 1: up and plays every day. For sure. What did you learn,
- 45:47Speaker 1: you know, from Freddie that you, that applies to you now?
- 45:50Speaker 3: You know, just the, like I said, kind of similar to,
- 45:53Speaker 3: to Olsen, just the consistency. Um, you know, I was,
- 45:56Speaker 3: I was, you know, just coming up and, and obviously,
- 45:59Speaker 3: you know, playing, playing with him early on. It's, it's, um, Yeah,
- 46:04Speaker 3: I caught myself not wanting to disappoint him. It's like,
- 46:07Speaker 3: you know what I mean? It's like he was the guy.
- 46:11Speaker 3: He was the face of the franchise. And coming up,
- 46:14Speaker 3: it's like, man, I just wanted to do right by it,
- 46:18Speaker 3: make sure I did right by him. But at the
- 46:24Speaker 3: same time, it's like he was always there. He was
- 46:27Speaker 3: a great teammate. And just being able to learn from him,
- 46:31Speaker 3: it's just like– you know, trying to, you know, that
- 46:37Speaker 3: was like my first real experience I talked about earlier.
- 46:39Speaker 3: It's like seeing the consistency in, in, um, in a
- 46:44Speaker 3: cage routine of just like how it's almost like stubbornness
- 46:48Speaker 3: of just like, you know, whether you're going well or
- 46:50Speaker 3: going not, he's like, I'm staying the same. Um, and
- 46:52Speaker 3: I remember actually I was struggling a little bit. I
- 46:55Speaker 3: can't remember what year it was. Um, but I'd, I'd
- 46:59Speaker 3: played well. And then I'd kind of gone through a
- 47:01Speaker 3: cold streak and snit was going to give me a day. And,
- 47:03Speaker 3: Freddie's like, come here, Austin. So we went to Snit's office.
- 47:06Speaker 3: I was like, oh, gosh, what's going on? And Freddie
- 47:11Speaker 3: vouched for me. He's like, he needs to be playing today.
- 47:12Speaker 3: He's like, he's our guy. He needs to be playing
- 47:14Speaker 3: every day. And, of course, we didn't win that battle.
- 47:18Speaker 3: I got the day off. But, you know, like I said,
- 47:21Speaker 3: having a guy like Freddie in your corner and pulling
- 47:24Speaker 3: for you, you know, that means a lot to me.
- 47:27Speaker 2: I would say, yeah, I mean, yeah, I think it
- 47:29Speaker 2: is stubbornness. Like as far as he's so stubborn to
- 47:33Speaker 2: his– routine like he will not change it for anything
- 47:37Speaker 2: whether it doesn't matter what he went through last night
- 47:41Speaker 2: right now earlier today like.
- 47:43Speaker 3: It's the same it's the same i think that's a
- 47:45Speaker 3: big reason why he's 300 hitter.
- 47:47Speaker 2: Yeah for so long you know and you know even
- 47:51Speaker 2: now i learned from him you know just watching him
- 47:53Speaker 2: and talking to him and yeah i mean there's i
- 47:58Speaker 2: haven't really had much of an ink that kind of
- 48:01Speaker 2: example you know I've had a lot of different examples
- 48:03Speaker 2: but that kind of example um it's it's much appreciated
- 48:07Speaker 2: you know and so I really feel like that's something
- 48:10Speaker 2: that I can uh that can take home and then
- 48:12Speaker 2: seeing him play first base you know I hadn't really
- 48:15Speaker 2: uh played infield at all and so all I really
- 48:18Speaker 2: know is Freddie and so I see how good he is.
- 48:22Speaker 1: Over there I mean you just if you throw it
- 48:25Speaker 1: anywhere in the vicinity. I've been spoiled. I've had Freddie.
- 48:28Speaker 1: I've had Matt.
- 48:29Speaker 3: It's like catch the ball, throw it over there, and
- 48:31Speaker 3: it's going to be caught.
- 48:32Speaker 1: It's going to be caught. It doesn't matter. That's such
- 48:35Speaker 1: a good feeling. You know what? And honestly, I feel
- 48:37Speaker 1: like that makes you make better throws. Oh, yeah, for sure.
- 48:41Speaker 1: There's no pressure.
- 48:42Speaker 3: It's like I said, all I've got to do is
- 48:43Speaker 3: catch it and get rid of it, and nine times
- 48:46Speaker 3: out of ten, it's going to be an out.
- 48:47Speaker 1: It's going to be an out.
- 48:48Speaker 3: It's like now you're able to slow everything down a
- 48:51Speaker 3: little bit, and I've been spoiled for sure.
- 48:54Speaker 1: Yeah. Before I let you go, I want to go to,
- 48:59Speaker 1: we're both from the South. Yeah. Right. And I want
- 49:02Speaker 1: to play this game called Southern or Not. Okay. All right.
- 49:06Speaker 1: So we're going to have some phrases up here and
- 49:09Speaker 1: we got to guess if they are. You playing this too? Yeah,
- 49:15Speaker 1: I'm playing. I'm playing. I feel like I kind of
- 49:16Speaker 1: lost my, you still have your accent. Yeah. My accent
- 49:19Speaker 1: is mine.
- 49:20Speaker 3: I think especially when i go home in the off
- 49:21Speaker 3: season it kind of grows.
- 49:22Speaker 1: Real bad.
- 49:26Speaker 3: Don't piss down my back don't piss down my back
- 49:29Speaker 3: and tell me it's raining it's got to be southern
- 49:33Speaker 3: i think.
- 49:33Speaker 2: That's southern that's got to be southern yeah yeah that's
- 49:38Speaker 2: for sure Don't lie to me about something that's obviously happening.
- 49:41Speaker 1: I haven't said that, but like. I've never even heard
- 49:43Speaker 1: of it. I mean, but I get it. And because
- 49:47Speaker 1: we get it, it's Southern. Exactly. Exactly. Busier than a
- 49:51Speaker 1: one-eyed cat watching two mouse holes. No, I don't think
- 49:55Speaker 1: that's Southern. No, that's just a. Somebody made that up.
- 49:58Speaker 1: That's just a saying. Yeah. Somebody. There's no way that's Southern. What?
- 50:02Speaker 1: Very busy. Very busy. Must be from like Arkansas or something. Yeah,
- 50:07Speaker 1: that's deep south. I'm not from the deep south. I'm
- 50:10Speaker 1: just regular south. Yeah. Okay. A couple more. He took
- 50:16Speaker 1: the horse's saddle and wore it himself. Took the horse's
- 50:20Speaker 1: saddle and wore it himself. Starting to question my southerness. Yeah,
- 50:26Speaker 1: I don't know if I'm a southern anymore. I don't
- 50:28Speaker 1: think so. Yeah, I'm going no. I'm going to go no.
- 50:31Speaker 4: No.
- 50:32Speaker 1: Fake. Okay. Yeah. Okay. All right.
- 50:34Speaker 4: All right.
- 50:34Speaker 1: Okay. Two more.
- 50:36Speaker 2: I'm going to go see a man about a dog.
- 50:41Speaker 2: I'm going to go see a man about a dog.
- 50:47Speaker 2: I ain't never heard that before.
- 50:49Speaker 1: I'm saying no. I'm saying let's go fake. For real.
- 50:54Speaker 2: What you say when you're leaving but don't want to
- 50:56Speaker 2: tell people where you're going.
- 50:58Speaker 1: I'm going to go see a man about a dog.
- 51:01Speaker 1: You talk to these southern people. Yeah.
- 51:02Speaker 2: Where are these people? Who are these Southern people that
- 51:07Speaker 2: you talking to?
- 51:08Speaker 1: God. Okay. One more. Let's see. Last one.
- 51:12Speaker 2: He's milking a cow with his hands tied. I just
- 51:18Speaker 2: visually thought of that.
- 51:19Speaker 1: Yeah, right? And I don't know. Go a bunch of
- 51:21Speaker 1: different ways with this. I'm going to go. Oh, man.
- 51:26Speaker 1: You know what? Yeah. I mean, you throw cow in there.
- 51:29Speaker 1: Let's go Southern. I think so. It's so off the wall.
- 51:32Speaker 1: I'm going real. Fake. Oh, of course. You're going real. What?
- 51:36Speaker 1: It's fake. Okay. Well, it is what it is. Before
- 51:39Speaker 1: I let you go, man, I do a food review
- 51:42Speaker 1: of each city.
- 51:44Speaker 2: We've had the best thing, which was the Puerto Rican-inspired
- 51:49Speaker 2: hot dog from the Pirates.
- 51:50Speaker 1: That was the best? Fire.
- 51:51Speaker 3: Fire?
- 51:52Speaker 1: It was great. Really? And it was cold, too. So
- 51:55Speaker 1: I can only imagine when it's hot, fire.
- 51:58Speaker 2: So if you want to go to Pittsburgh, whenever you
- 52:00Speaker 2: go to Pittsburgh, if.
- 52:01Speaker 1: You like hot dogs. What was it called again?
- 52:03Speaker 2: The Puerto Rican inspired hot dog. I don't remember what
- 52:06Speaker 2: all was on it, but it was, it was good.
- 52:08Speaker 1: It was nails. It was nails. And I don't even,
- 52:10Speaker 1: I'm not a big hot dog guy.
- 52:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not, but I'll have to try it here.
- 52:16Speaker 1: I mean, they rap about it, sing about it.
- 52:20Speaker 2: Um, we're going to go with, uh, the magic city
- 52:23Speaker 2: lemon pepper wings, you know, have you had those before?
- 52:26Speaker 1: Oh yeah. Yeah.
- 52:27Speaker 2: I think everybody, I mean, but, uh, so we're going
- 52:30Speaker 2: to go with them and, uh, We got to give
- 52:34Speaker 2: a food review.
- 52:35Speaker 1: Alright, let's try the Wangs. You want to get you one?
- 52:43Speaker 1: Magic City Wings. This is a really good wing. I'm
- 52:54Speaker 1: a big wing guy, so yeah. What would you give this?
- 53:01Speaker 1: I mean, for it to be Hot at 11 o'clock
- 53:04Speaker 1: in the morning. What was Magic City doing? Yeah. And?
- 53:11Speaker 1: I'm giving it a nine. I'll give it a nine, too.
- 53:13Speaker 1: That's pretty. I think the Magic City Lemon Purple Wings,
- 53:18Speaker 1: those hit. We'll have to get those for some lunch today. Mm-hmm.
- 53:22Speaker 1: I think I'm going to give it a nine, too.
- 53:25Speaker 1: Those are really good. So if you're in Atlanta.
- 53:29Speaker 2: Let me show you Swing by Magic City to go
- 53:31Speaker 2: get you some wings.
- 53:35Speaker 1: And take you some cash, too.
- 53:37Speaker 2: So, anyways, brother, thanks for coming on, man. I know
- 53:41Speaker 2: we have our Doolin' Dodger. Shout out to the Doolin'
- 53:45Speaker 2: Dodgers out there. And then I'm just really getting able
- 53:49Speaker 2: to see you. You know, I actually knew about you
- 53:51Speaker 2: before you came up to the big leagues.
- 53:54Speaker 1: Doolin'? He.
- 53:55Speaker 2: Told me about it. He was like, hey, Austin's coming up.
- 53:58Speaker 2: Make sure when you see him, you talk to him,
- 54:00Speaker 2: take care of him.
- 54:00Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Oh, Timmy. What not. Yeah, oh, Timmy, yeah.
- 54:03Speaker 2: So it's just been awesome to see from the other side,
- 54:07Speaker 2: see where you started, see where you're going now.
- 54:09Speaker 1: Appreciate it. See where you're headed. And I wish nothing
