- 0:17Speaker 2: We are yet to see any evidence that backs up
- 0:19Speaker 2: the claims Winston Peters is making about the Indian FTA.
- 0:22Speaker 2: He said yesterday that he's seen documents.
- 0:25Speaker 3: The National Party has just changed his course, no doubt
- 0:28Speaker 3: due to poor Pauline. Immigration policy settings are being made
- 0:32Speaker 3: more restrictive in a way that which targets India and
- 0:35Speaker 3: India alone.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Now we've asked New Zealand first if we can see
- 0:38Speaker 2: those documents. We're being told no. Apparently we have to
- 0:40Speaker 2: get them from National Edwin Paul is the chair of
- 0:43Speaker 2: the India New Zealand Business Council and is with US
- 0:45Speaker 2: High Edwin.
- 0:47Speaker 4: Cure, Heather, Good to be with you and your listeners again.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Good to talk to you. Have you seen the documents?
- 0:52Speaker 4: Nah? I haven't.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Would you have expected to?
- 0:57Speaker 4: No? I don't have to.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Why not?
- 1:01Speaker 4: Basically?
- 1:02Speaker 5: I mean it was a good conversation you're having earlier. Right,
- 1:05Speaker 5: So it's all the drama and the theater around the elections.
- 1:08Speaker 5: I think there's a told politically motivated hyperbolay. The agreement
- 1:14Speaker 5: is well negotiated and better than that, it's it's scrutinized
- 1:19Speaker 5: even more and it's passing through all due processes, and
- 1:23Speaker 5: at this time I think these allegations unsubstantiated.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Okay. So are you saying that you do not believe
- 1:30Speaker 2: what Winston is saying?
- 1:32Speaker 4: Yes, Scotley, why not.
- 1:35Speaker 5: Because we I personally am the Council has had insights
- 1:40Speaker 5: before as to how this whole thing panned out. From
- 1:43Speaker 5: the time it was announced to now, we've had quite
- 1:45Speaker 5: some visibility on what it is. And I think for us,
- 1:49Speaker 5: the source of truth is actually our chief negotiators response
- 1:55Speaker 5: to the Parliamentary subcommittee, and he had all the answers,
- 1:59Speaker 5: and we know what exactly what the trade agreement is.
- 2:03Speaker 4: So I think it's unsubstantiated.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Okay. So even if it's unsubstantiate, and even if proof emerges,
- 2:09Speaker 2: do you think the Indian government is going to get
- 2:12Speaker 2: wind of this and not like what they're seeing?
- 2:15Speaker 4: I think they're equally aware.
- 2:17Speaker 5: I mean, everybody knows the personalities and characters involved, and
- 2:22Speaker 5: they know it's election here and this was kind of expected.
- 2:25Speaker 5: I would, in fact expect the hypeability to increase over
- 2:28Speaker 5: the next few months.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Okay, Edwin, thank you so much for talking us. I
- 2:31Speaker 2: appreciate ed and Paul Indian New Zealand Business Council Chair.
