- 0:00Speaker 1: A hard up San Pedro fishing skipper finds his young
- 0:03Speaker 1: daughter unexpectedly entering his life. That is the waterfront situation
- 0:09Speaker 1: at the center of Lux Radio Theatre's adaptation of MGM's
- 0:12Speaker 1: nineteen forty one comedy drama Barnacle Bill. On April first,
- 0:18Speaker 1: nineteen forty six, in episode five hundred twenty one, Wallace
- 0:22Speaker 1: Bery and Marjorie Maine recreated their film roles as Bill
- 0:26Speaker 1: Johansson and Marge Cavendish. Beery's daughter, Carol Ann plays Virginia
- 0:33Speaker 1: with Bill's debts, local fishing interests, a three masted schooner,
- 0:37Speaker 1: and Marge's hopes for him. All in the harbor current.
- 0:41Speaker 1: The story moves through San Pedro's working waterfront, and now
- 0:46Speaker 1: our story begins luck present Hollywood.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Allus Radio Theater brings you Wallace Bury, Marjorie Main, Noah Berry,
- 1:07Speaker 2: and Carol Lamberry in Barnacle Bill, Ladies and Gentlemen, your producer,
- 1:14Speaker 2: mister William.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Keeling readings from Hollywood Ladies and Gentlemen. There comes a
- 1:24Speaker 3: knocking on our door tonight. A seafaring character whose name
- 1:28Speaker 3: is famed in song and story Barnicle Bill. While he
- 1:33Speaker 3: may not be identical with the gentleman who vowed to
- 1:36Speaker 3: sail the sea until I crow, fight and square and
- 1:40Speaker 3: chew and smoke. He certainly has many of the lusty
- 1:43Speaker 3: and contagious manners of his namesake, and no one could
- 1:47Speaker 3: better portray the role of such a character than Wallace Bery.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Wally appears co starred with Marjorie Man, his brother Noah,
- 1:56Speaker 3: and his daughter Carol Lamb in Metro Boulder Male's boisterous
- 2:01Speaker 3: comedy Barnacle Bill asaga spiced with sentiment and humor, and
- 2:06Speaker 3: sparked by the excitement so inherent in the lives of
- 2:10Speaker 3: those who seek their fortune by the sea, matching brain
- 2:14Speaker 3: and muscle with the elements in keeping with that spirit
- 2:18Speaker 3: of resourcefulness afloat. Many of you probably saw in a
- 2:22Speaker 3: recent issue of Life magazine the photograph of a young
- 2:25Speaker 3: American wife sailing to join her husband overseas. Plainly visible
- 2:31Speaker 3: in her open suitcase are the gifts she's taking to
- 2:34Speaker 3: her husband's family. One is can goods and the other
- 2:39Speaker 3: is two packages of luck flakes. And I'm sure that
- 2:43Speaker 3: when that young bride meets her in laws for the
- 2:46Speaker 3: first time, that friendly gift of luft flakes will do
- 2:50Speaker 3: much to break the Ice, as well as to recommend
- 2:53Speaker 3: her as a housewife of distinction. We're off to the
- 2:57Speaker 3: pungent coast of California and the first stack Sambonnicle Bill,
- 3:01Speaker 3: starring Wallace Bury in the title role and Marjorie Mayne
- 3:05Speaker 3: as Marge Cavendish, with Noah Berry as Adam Kelly and
- 3:10Speaker 3: Carol Ann Berry as Virginia.
- 3:20Speaker 4: Like a bra.
- 3:23Speaker 5: Sladder, like a flysy that you like a big.
- 3:34Speaker 6: Tis you will last.
- 3:44Speaker 5: You.
- 3:51Speaker 3: It's been nearly six months and Bill Johansson sat in
- 3:55Speaker 3: Margie Cavendish's Paula and rendered that parting duet with her Brenda,
- 4:01Speaker 3: meaning to tell a pause. But now on the bow
- 4:04Speaker 3: of his dilapidated fishing boat, Bill's returning.
- 4:07Speaker 7: To Port Pico.
- 4:09Speaker 3: His partner labels manfuly at the oars of a rowboat
- 4:13Speaker 3: slowly towing the fishing boat in the dock.
- 4:16Speaker 6: Hey, why don't you have me with you?
- 4:20Speaker 5: Yeah? Help you? Did you ever hear of a captain
- 4:23Speaker 5: desserting his ship. I'm just setting here until my vessel
- 4:26Speaker 5: sinks from under me. That there's murder tradition, Pico.

- 18:31Speaker 5: but I can get along without it. I guess now
- 18:34Speaker 5: here you you'd be nice and plank jenny like your pa.
- 18:38Speaker 4: Hello, honey, would you really like to stay here with me?
- 18:44Speaker 8: I don't know. I thought my father wanted me. He
- 18:48Speaker 8: gave me his boat. That's why I came out here.
- 18:50Speaker 8: But now I know I did it just so I
- 18:52Speaker 8: wouldn't have to pay his bill.
- 18:54Speaker 4: Who in the world ever told you that whether he's
- 18:59Speaker 4: the word of truth in there isn't I reckon? I
- 19:01Speaker 4: ought to know?
- 19:03Speaker 11: Say you ought to heard your pep talk about you
- 19:08Speaker 11: prouder in a cucumber?
- 19:10Speaker 4: What prouder?
- 19:12Speaker 7: Now?
- 19:12Speaker 11: Look, child, your path ain't no great shakes to look at.
- 19:16Speaker 11: But fat boy's got some good qualities down underneath.
- 19:19Speaker 8: Oh, I know, I'm sure he has.
- 19:22Speaker 6: Look.
- 19:22Speaker 8: Can I set the table for you?
- 19:23Speaker 5: Oh?
- 19:23Speaker 4: You know you don't need to bother, but I'd like
- 19:26Speaker 4: to hold me.
- 19:27Speaker 8: I can keep pause from my paw.
- 19:29Speaker 4: Well, you'll be all right, honey. And you know there's
- 19:33Speaker 4: some other ways we can help him. Your pap don't
- 19:36Speaker 4: know it, but what he needs in his life is
- 19:39Speaker 4: a woman.
- 19:40Speaker 8: Well I'm not exactly a woman.
- 19:43Speaker 4: Oh well, you'll do all right, now, I'll help you.
- 19:45Speaker 8: Do you think you'll ever be assuring enough? Seat?
- 19:48Speaker 11: Well, with both of us concentrating on him, there's no
- 19:50Speaker 11: telling what's going to happen.
- 19:52Speaker 4: Now, let's see tomorrow Sunday. How do you like to
- 19:54Speaker 4: go to church? Honey? You mean, oh, and specially your
- 19:58Speaker 4: paw become a nice room to me the preacher.
- 20:00Speaker 8: Don't you think, Oh that'd be wonderful.
- 20:03Speaker 4: Yes, sir, there's no telling what's gonna happen.
- 20:08Speaker 9: Like a blood can halt.
- 20:11Speaker 4: Needs bloodness like the floors nay.
- 20:19Speaker 6: Boo.
- 20:32Speaker 14: Our stars will return in XT two a bonnacle bill.
- 20:35Speaker 14: In just a moment, say lebby, what are the stars
- 20:38Speaker 14: going to wear in the Easter parade?
- 20:40Speaker 15: Well, starting from the ground up, I'd say anyone who
- 20:42Speaker 15: owns a pair of nylons will have them on that day.
- 20:46Speaker 12: The stars guard their nylons like gold, you know, just
- 20:48Speaker 12: like the rest of us.
- 20:50Speaker 5: That must mean luxe care.
- 20:51Speaker 12: Oh naturally, because lux cut runs way down.
- 20:54Speaker 5: Imagine a movie star with a run clout.
- 20:57Speaker 15: At Colbert for instance, you know she's just This's won
- 21:00Speaker 15: the Fashion Academy's award for the best Dressed Woman on
- 21:02Speaker 15: the screen, on.
- 21:03Speaker 14: The screen or off the screen. I've never seen Claudette
- 21:05Speaker 14: look less than perfect, and it's.
- 21:07Speaker 15: All her own good taste. Remember those stunning clothes she
- 21:10Speaker 15: wears and Tomorrow Is Forever She selected practically all of
- 21:13Speaker 15: them herself. Directors say, she not only knows what looks
- 21:17Speaker 15: well on her, but knows what clothes will help the
- 21:19Speaker 15: mood of.
- 21:19Speaker 14: The scene that's important than the picture, like Tomorrow Is Forever,
- 21:22Speaker 14: where there are so many tense emotional situations.
- 21:25Speaker 12: Yes, and perfect clothes. Care is important too.
- 21:28Speaker 15: Suppose Claudette got a stocking run when she's pleading with
- 21:31Speaker 15: Orson Wells, who plays the part of her first husband.
- 21:34Speaker 12: But international studios watch out for things like that.
- 21:37Speaker 15: They specify luck for stockings as well as all other
- 21:40Speaker 15: nice washables.
- 21:41Speaker 14: Lux care really does make stockings last longer. Hundreds of
- 21:45Speaker 14: scientific strain tests proved that stockings washed with LUs didn't
- 21:49Speaker 14: go into runs nearly so quickly as those washed with
- 21:51Speaker 14: strong soap or rubbed with cake soap.
- 21:53Speaker 15: So no matter what kind of stockings you're planning to wear,
- 21:56Speaker 15: in the Easter parade, prolong their life with lux care.
- 22:00Speaker 14: You can make your lux go further too, if you
- 22:02Speaker 14: use only as much as you need to make rich suns.
- 22:05Speaker 14: Lux contains vital material, so don't waste it. Here's mister
- 22:09Speaker 14: Keeley at the microphone.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Our curtain rises on Act two of Barnacle Bill, starring
- 22:15Speaker 3: Wally Berri in the title role and Marjorie Maine as
- 22:18Speaker 3: Marge Cavendish, with Noah Biri as Kelly and Carol Anne
- 22:23Speaker 3: Berry as Virginia. Margie's campaign to reform Bill has borne
- 22:29Speaker 3: a sudden and startling result.
- 22:32Speaker 5: She's actually succeeded in getting him to church.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Margie and Virginia beam happily as they join Bill in
- 22:40Speaker 3: the closing and.
- 22:43Speaker 5: We shall fabre Die.
- 22:46Speaker 7: Bringing in the scene. In the scene, we shall ratie.
- 22:58Speaker 5: Ing Ma.
- 23:07Speaker 3: It's two hours later now, and with the Minister as
- 23:11Speaker 3: a guest for Sunday dinner, Marjie, her father and Virginia
- 23:15Speaker 3: wait hopefully for Bill.
- 23:19Speaker 5: Coming.
- 23:19Speaker 16: How long we got to wait for that biscuit weaver? Hush,
- 23:23Speaker 16: don't shush me, that's his priches. I could eat the shock.
- 23:27Speaker 16: Where do you suppose William is now attack in a
- 23:30Speaker 16: silly question. He stopped off in the saloon. My father
- 23:34Speaker 16: wouldn't go near a saloon.
- 23:36Speaker 5: I should hope not, especially on the Sabbath.
- 23:39Speaker 9: Bill, ain't that choosy?
- 23:41Speaker 5: Now?
- 23:41Speaker 4: Hush up, Paul. Bill took the players just last night,
- 23:44Speaker 4: the New Virginia.
- 23:45Speaker 8: He promised me, he promised me.
- 23:50Speaker 5: That's William, now, isn't it. Listen he's singing.
- 23:54Speaker 9: Higher than a close near to work.
- 23:59Speaker 8: They know how as?
- 24:01Speaker 5: Oh hello, Shitney, Hello, what have you been?
- 24:05Speaker 4: You've got a breath stum enough to drive a pylon,
- 24:08Speaker 4: and the minister's.
- 24:09Speaker 5: Here, Reverend, permit me to congratulate you on your sermon
- 24:13Speaker 5: this morning. I was I was just tell the boys
- 24:16Speaker 5: dollar the slued Oh.
- 24:19Speaker 6: After all your problems?
- 24:21Speaker 5: Oh what everybody chicking on me for?
- 24:24Speaker 9: You brought your word.
- 24:26Speaker 8: That's the worst thing anybody can do.
- 24:28Speaker 11: Now, you got a tears, you're nre low down sea
- 24:32Speaker 11: cow you come here, Marcie, you let go my ear?
- 24:36Speaker 4: Not a put off getting drunk on Sunday.
- 24:38Speaker 5: Pop collar off, Baker, turn me loose.
- 24:40Speaker 4: You get your head under that spot here, here's water
- 24:45Speaker 4: something you normal thing about?
- 24:46Speaker 5: Stop at Mark, stop at that hole, Stop at my honey.
- 24:51Speaker 5: This is sheer madness. Jenny, Is that that you? Jenny?
- 25:08Speaker 5: What you're doing? Jenny, I'm I'm awfully sorry about what
- 25:16Speaker 5: happened this afternoon. Shee what you're thinking about.
- 25:21Speaker 8: I'm thinking about Grandpa? What about grands I'm thinking I'd like.
- 25:27Speaker 5: To do just what he did, cast me out or
- 25:30Speaker 5: go ahead if he gets stuck out trying to help you.
- 25:34Speaker 8: I'm thinking about when Grandpa got sick the last time.
- 25:38Speaker 8: The doctor told him you never get out of bed again.
- 25:41Speaker 8: That night, Grandpa got up and went out to his boat.
- 25:44Speaker 5: But you just said he was ailing.
- 25:46Speaker 8: That didn't matter because he was a sea captain. The
- 25:49Speaker 8: sea captains don't like.
- 25:51Speaker 7: To die and bick.
- 25:52Speaker 5: That's right, we don't sick as he was.
- 25:55Speaker 8: He went out to sea all alone. Nobody ever saw. Oh,
- 26:02Speaker 8: I think that's a beautiful way to die.
- 26:04Speaker 5: Oh that's a fine thing to be talking about. You're
- 26:08Speaker 5: too young to why what what would I do without you? Jimmy? Oh,
- 26:15Speaker 5: that's crazy? Whatever made you?
- 26:18Speaker 8: Don't you start crying now?

- 26:23Speaker 5: as all. And I wasn't crying either. Something just flew
- 26:27Speaker 5: in my eye, Jinny, I'm going to get myself a job.
- 26:33Speaker 5: I'm going to go to work.

- 29:20Speaker 18: Dick Kelly ad Dixon checked the waits for us.
- 29:23Speaker 5: I'd be suspicious, but Bacon did it. He's always been

- 35:09Speaker 5: have to go downstairs in the water because you was
- 35:12Speaker 5: the one that left the sea cocks open.
- 35:14Speaker 9: That's why how many times I want to tell you

- 37:34Speaker 4: Sitting in the parlor like yeah.
- 37:38Speaker 5: Yeah, guys, Mark, would you sing that best song again,
- 37:43Speaker 5: just just for old times sake?
- 37:46Speaker 4: My sure, Bell kind of like it myself, you know.
- 37:49Speaker 5: It's it's so soothing the way you sing it.

- 38:30Speaker 5: Amazing talents all wrapped up in one little woman.
- 38:34Speaker 4: Oh I'm a really talented.
- 38:39Speaker 5: You know, Margie. When I get my book, I'm going
- 38:42Speaker 5: to get an organ just like this year. And then,
- 38:45Speaker 5: if I'm lucky enough, I'm going to marry a woman
- 38:48Speaker 5: like you, and I'll have her sing that song to
- 38:52Speaker 5: me every night before I go to sleep.
- 38:55Speaker 4: I'm attractive there.
- 38:56Speaker 5: Yeah, But I guess ma's much sense in talking. How
- 38:59Speaker 5: am I want to get? Get that? They're kind of
- 39:02Speaker 5: a vote?
- 39:03Speaker 4: Why I thought you was buying three sisters?
- 39:05Speaker 5: Yes, I am, but you know it's it's the hardest
- 39:09Speaker 5: thing in the world doing business with them. They're big bankers.
- 39:12Speaker 5: That their rate of interest in scandalss. Why I'd be
- 39:16Speaker 5: just working for a heartless corporation, not for the woman
- 39:20Speaker 5: I love. Bell.
- 39:22Speaker 4: I ain't gonna let you do it.
- 39:23Speaker 5: You ain't gonna let me do work March.
- 39:25Speaker 4: Work for no heartless corporate.
- 39:28Speaker 5: Oh no, no, honey, I guess I'm I'm doomed.
- 39:33Speaker 4: Oh no, yea, Because if it wouldn't embarrass Yourn, I'd
- 39:41Speaker 4: like to loan you that money.
- 39:42Speaker 5: Must March.
- 39:44Speaker 4: I got the money for you.
- 39:45Speaker 7: That's after.
- 39:48Speaker 5: I can't I can't believe that. I couldn't believe it
- 39:51Speaker 5: unless I fell it in my hand.
- 39:53Speaker 4: Well, here it is Bell. It's for you.
- 39:56Speaker 5: Gosh, oh gee, ain't that a lovely shade of green?
- 40:02Speaker 5: March honey, yeh March honey. Uh, pucker up the lips
- 40:11Speaker 5: of yours. They're all up. Yeah yeah, Margie, m hm.
- 40:21Speaker 5: Let's let's whistle at their song. Honey.
- 40:35Speaker 14: We pause now for station identifications. This is CBS, the
- 40:38Speaker 14: Columbia Broadcasting System. Our stars will return with Act three
- 41:03Speaker 14: in a moment. Every year a new starlets rise in Hollywood,
- 41:07Speaker 14: some faith, but others shine more brightly. Every year, our
- 41:11Speaker 14: studio scout Libby Collins, has brought one of Metro Golden
- 41:15Speaker 14: Mayer's most promising young players yesternight as our guests. She's
- 41:19Speaker 14: Dollothy Patrick, long and blue eyed, with talent to match.
- 41:24Speaker 14: How did you get started in the movies?
- 41:25Speaker 5: Are they talent?
- 41:27Speaker 7: Scout?
- 41:27Speaker 8: Saw me in a little theater play in Hollywood, mister Keary.
- 41:30Speaker 12: The next day I was signing a contract without a
- 41:32Speaker 12: screen test.
- 41:34Speaker 5: Quite a compliment I soon made one.
- 41:36Speaker 20: MGM was casting for The Green Years, and I'd read A. J.
- 41:39Speaker 20: Cronin's book and thought it would make a magnificent picture.
- 41:42Speaker 5: What part would you test it? Bod?
- 41:44Speaker 20: Are they the role that Beverly Tilet finally got but
- 41:47Speaker 20: all of us are happy that she got it. She's
- 41:49Speaker 20: perfect as Tom Drake's sweetheart.
- 41:51Speaker 3: That's very generous of you, and I understand that MGM
- 41:54Speaker 3: has plans for you.
- 41:55Speaker 20: Yes, they're casting me in the new Jerome Current picture.
- 41:59Speaker 20: But I hope sometime I can list of Charles Colbrin.
- 42:02Speaker 20: He's really sucurbed in the Green years his grandfather.
- 42:04Speaker 3: Gow Tell me, Darthy, now that you're on the road
- 42:07Speaker 3: to success, what are you going to buy that you've
- 42:09Speaker 3: always wanted?
- 42:12Speaker 12: Laugerie.
- 42:13Speaker 20: I love pretty splits and nineties Chivarry pinks and blues
- 42:17Speaker 20: and yellows.
- 42:18Speaker 12: But you can be sure I'll take good care of
- 42:20Speaker 12: them with luck if that interests mister Kennedy.
- 42:23Speaker 14: Indeed it does, Dorothy. You know, even girls on a
- 42:25Speaker 14: budget can have more pretty laingurie if they give under
- 42:28Speaker 14: things gentle lux care.
- 42:30Speaker 12: Isn't that right, Libby, Perhaps you better explain that to Kennedy.
- 42:33Speaker 5: Well.
- 42:33Speaker 14: Scientific washing tests showed that dundees washed with a strong soap,
- 42:37Speaker 14: hot water, and rough handling so looked faded and dragged.
- 42:40Speaker 14: Those washed the luxe way stayed color fresh and lovely
- 42:43Speaker 14: three times as long so instead of spending money just
- 42:46Speaker 14: to replace faded dundees, you can.
- 42:48Speaker 5: Buy a new one.
- 42:49Speaker 12: That is, you send no more than you would otherwise.
- 42:51Speaker 14: Right, so you can feel as glamorous as you please
- 42:54Speaker 14: without being extravagant. Lux keeps ondaes lovely so much longer
- 42:58Speaker 14: it's worth waiting for. Thank you for coming tonight, Dorothy,
- 43:02Speaker 14: And a suggestion to our radio audience. If you can't
- 43:05Speaker 14: get luck the first time you try, try again. More
- 43:08Speaker 14: is on the way. We'll return you now to mister
- 43:11Speaker 14: William Keeley.
- 43:13Speaker 3: After our final curtain, you're invited backstage for a brief
- 43:16Speaker 3: chat with tonight's stop. Here's the final act of Bonnacle Bill,
- 43:21Speaker 3: starring Wallace Berry as the gentleman in question, Marjorie Mayne
- 43:25Speaker 3: as Marge, with nor Biy as Kelly, and Caroline Berry
- 43:30Speaker 3: as Virginia. It's the following morning, and stretched out on
- 43:39Speaker 3: the docks of his newly acquired schooner, Bill Johansen watches
- 43:44Speaker 3: as Pico paints the format, but in his heart as
- 43:47Speaker 3: a cold terror, for he's led Marge to believe that
- 43:51Speaker 3: he'll marry her. Bill is a most unhappy character.
- 43:55Speaker 6: Hey Peter, why don't you never help me?
- 43:58Speaker 5: To work, cause I'm saying and Pico, you and me
- 44:01Speaker 5: are getting out of here. We're going to the south
- 44:03Speaker 5: Sea Island.
- 44:03Speaker 7: What kind of dog?
- 44:05Speaker 16: You know?
- 44:06Speaker 5: I always had my heart set on the South Seas. Well,
- 44:10Speaker 5: that's where we're going. All I'm worrying about is getting
- 44:16Speaker 5: provisions and stuff to trade to them their natives down there.
- 44:19Speaker 7: Well you mean like bes and calicoes.
- 44:21Speaker 5: Yeah, lollipops, umbrellas. It would take just about treat under dog,
- 44:25Speaker 5: but with a company. And keep your mouth shut. Get
- 44:30Speaker 5: back to that paint. Can hello, Jimmy, come on the board, Joe,
- 44:34Speaker 5: get up. Yeah, I've been working like a dog.
- 44:38Speaker 8: What to tell you about?
- 44:42Speaker 5: Phil Man?
- 44:42Speaker 14: The boys was thinking how you could turn the schooner
- 44:45Speaker 14: into a refrigerator boat. Muite, easy, refrigerator boat? You mean
- 44:48Speaker 14: going after them tone the boats buying a fish. Sure,
- 44:52Speaker 14: Kelly made a fortune doing it, and so can you.
- 44:54Speaker 14: You treat a square bill. We'll buy the ice and
- 44:56Speaker 14: upright on chairs. So that's a swell idea.
- 45:00Speaker 5: I mean you do it? Oh, sure, yeah, I'll do it.
- 45:02Speaker 5: Sure you're not well, I'll go make arrangements for the
- 45:05Speaker 5: ice right away.
- 45:07Speaker 8: Wait, I tell March Gosh, she'll be as proud of
- 45:09Speaker 8: you as I.
- 45:11Speaker 7: Did. I think now we're never going to get to
- 45:14Speaker 7: the South Sea.
- 45:14Speaker 5: We're shoving off, just like I said, How are you
- 45:17Speaker 5: How we're going to get the Calaquois in the umbrella?
- 45:19Speaker 5: How from Adam Kelly? He's going to buy him for it?
- 45:22Speaker 5: Feel you crazy again? When Kelly finds out that we're
- 45:25Speaker 5: in the fish business here, borrow us three hundred dollars
- 45:27Speaker 5: just to get rid of the competition, you preache, my fellow.
- 45:32Speaker 21: But Genny going to get one big disappoint No, no,
- 45:36Speaker 21: she won't feel bad. Why I might even take her
- 45:40Speaker 21: with us to the South Seas. I want to finish
- 45:42Speaker 21: up that mast. I'm going to town and can do
- 45:44Speaker 21: some high find.
- 45:55Speaker 22: Hey be all these boxes full of cal cos we

- 59:41Speaker 5: faith each to the other, and have declared same by
- 59:44Speaker 5: joining their right hands. I now pronounced that you are
- 59:47Speaker 5: husband and wife. You may fain the bride with you? Well,

- 1:00:24Speaker 14: Do you have a big family dinner on Sundays? It's
- 1:00:27Speaker 14: good to see the folks, isn't it? But don't you
- 1:00:29Speaker 14: sometimes wish you could serve dinner on paper plates? All
- 1:00:33Speaker 14: morning you're in the kitchen making a pie, stuffling a chicken. Afterwards,
- 1:00:37Speaker 14: there's a mountain of dishes to wash, what with Grandma
- 1:00:39Speaker 14: and Grandpa's sister Lil and Fred and their young Betty Junior.
- 1:00:43Speaker 14: Your husband and yourself. If your menu includes fruit, sherbet, roast, chicken,
- 1:00:47Speaker 14: dessert and coffee, you'll have at least seventy three pieces
- 1:00:51Speaker 14: of silver and dishes to wash. Quite a stack. But
- 1:00:54Speaker 14: do you know that less than two tablespoons and Lux
- 1:00:57Speaker 14: Flakes will do all those dishes?
- 1:00:59Speaker 5: Pretty thrift? Isn't it that rage?
- 1:01:01Speaker 14: You could wash the dishes for over twenty big Sunday
- 1:01:03Speaker 14: dinners with just one big box of Lux Flakes, and
- 1:01:07Speaker 14: lots more dinners than that when your family's down to
- 1:01:09Speaker 14: normal size. A big box of Lux does all those
- 1:01:12Speaker 14: dishes because it goes further. Tests prove that an ounce
- 1:01:16Speaker 14: of Lux Flakes actually washes up to twice as many
- 1:01:18Speaker 14: dishes as an ounce of any of ten other leading soaps.
- 1:01:22Speaker 14: And no matter how many dishes you have to wash,
- 1:01:24Speaker 14: Lux will help your hands stay soft and smooth and lovely,
- 1:01:29Speaker 14: even if strong soaps have left your hands red and rough.
- 1:01:32Speaker 14: Just changing the gentle Lux for dishes will make them
- 1:01:35Speaker 14: lovely again. Why not change the Lux for your dishes?
- 1:01:39Speaker 14: Here's your producer, mister William Keeley.
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: Oh, thanks for the four star performance. Go to that

- 1:03:00Speaker 5: and Van Johnson two out of three, two out of three. Well,
- 1:03:05Speaker 5: then it was three out of five, four out of seven,
