1:27
Speaker 6: the show and another rainy day as we kick off
1:30
Speaker 6: fall officially today. Metro News meteorologist Brian Hughes, who, by
1:33
Speaker 6: the way, is going to join me Later in the show,
1:35
Speaker 6: says we're going to have showers and storms off and
1:37
Speaker 6: on today. Temps of a low 70s. Rain continues tonight
1:40
Speaker 6: and tomorrow. Lows of a low 60s. Tonight, highs of
1:42
Speaker 6: a low 70s again tomorrow. By Thursday, we should move
1:45
Speaker 6: the rain out. High around 79. Friday, great looking day.
1:49
Speaker 6: Temps around 70 and looking good for high school football
1:52
Speaker 6: Friday night and for Saturday as well. Of course, Marshall
1:55
Speaker 6: has their homecoming game on Saturday. Sunny, high in the
1:58
Speaker 6: upper 70s. 60s for Saturday. Pretty good stuff. As I said,
2:01
Speaker 6: Brian's going to join me later in the show. And
2:03
Speaker 6: you can download the Metro News television app for Brian
2:05
Speaker 6: and his team of weather pros. Follow along on social
2:08
Speaker 6: media as well. Speaking of media, in the world of media,
2:11
Speaker 6: shots fired from the president as he said he would
2:14
Speaker 6: be banning some media outlets, CNN, MSNOW, and Politico, among them,
2:19
Speaker 6: from covering him at the White House. And now, some
2:22
Speaker 6: other entities have come out, including Fox News, siding with
2:26
Speaker 6: the folks that were banned. So, uh, We're going to
2:28
Speaker 6: talk to big brother, Burke Allen, about that. He, of course,
2:31
Speaker 6: of Allen Media Strategies. We've got several things I want
2:34
Speaker 6: to get to in the news and your calls and texts.
2:36
Speaker 6: Guarantee Bank Hotline, 304-345-5858. Tony DeTaylor, text 304-935-5008.
2:43
Speaker 7: Welcome.
2:44
Speaker 6: And now our good buddy from the city of Nitro,
2:46
Speaker 6: Joe Stevens. Good morning, sir. Welcome to the show.
2:49
Speaker 8: Good morning, Dave. And I bet them boys.
2:52
Speaker 6: How about them cowboys?
2:55
Speaker 3: Yeah.
2:55
Speaker 6: I mean, You know, here's the thing. That first game,
2:58
Speaker 6: I thought, my gosh, this team is terrible. And especially
3:01
Speaker 6: in light of the fact that the Giants just got
3:04
Speaker 6: annihilated by the Rams last night. But the Cowboys look
3:06
Speaker 6: pretty good against Tony the Taylor's team from Washington. He
3:10
Speaker 6: doesn't like calling them the commanders. He's a Redskins guy.
3:12
Speaker 6: So the boys look good. The offense is great. The
3:17
Speaker 6: defense sucks. Same as last year.
3:19
Speaker 8: Same as last year, you know, just rinse and repeat.
3:23
Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly right. Now, I got some things going on
3:25
Speaker 6: in Nitro that we want to talk about, but I
3:28
Speaker 6: understand you're at the State Tourism Conference now, is that right?
3:31
Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm sitting out here in the breezeway kind of thing,
3:35
Speaker 8: and watching the Elk River kind of flow on by.
3:38
Speaker 8: It's three days of talking tourism, one of the leading
3:42
Speaker 8: industries here in the state of West Virginia.
3:45
Speaker 6: You know, the governor came out yesterday and had some
3:46
Speaker 6: pretty impressive numbers as far as tourism goes. We have
3:49
Speaker 6: a story posted about it at wvmetronews.com, but things are
3:53
Speaker 6: looking pretty good as far as the dollar amounts coming
3:55
Speaker 6: into West Virginia for tourism.
3:58
Speaker 8: Very strong, Dave, and it's across the board. from the
4:01
Speaker 8: eastern panhandle to the northern panhandle, down to southern West Virginia,
4:05
Speaker 8: here in Charleston, Tim Brady with the Charleston CBB and
4:09
Speaker 8: everything and the events that are coming in here into
4:11
Speaker 8: the Kanawha Metro Valley area. It's pushing the needle upward.
4:17
Speaker 6: And of course, I mean, the tourism here in the Valley,
4:20
Speaker 6: as you said, you got Kelly Steele, who does a
4:22
Speaker 6: great job in Putnam County, got Megan Archer and the
4:25
Speaker 6: folks in Huntington with their And the Chambers of Commerce
4:28
Speaker 6: and Tourism, they all kind of work together in this.
4:30
Speaker 6: And we've got a team of winners, not the least
4:32
Speaker 6: of which is you, you know, for Nitro. And you
4:36
Speaker 6: guys continue to have so much going on, Joe. I
4:38
Speaker 6: was thinking about this earlier. I should just give you
4:39
Speaker 6: a daily slot on my show just to talk about
4:41
Speaker 6: things going on in Nitro.
4:44
Speaker 8: No, we want to keep the ratings continuing to climb,
4:47
Speaker 8: so we'll not do that. But, you know, Tim Brady
4:50
Speaker 8: welcomed everybody to Charleston yesterday morning, and he made a
4:54
Speaker 8: very good point. in the Kanawha Metro Valley area, how
4:58
Speaker 8: all the various CBBs and Chamber of Commerce work extremely
5:02
Speaker 8: together for the goal of one, and that's to bring
5:05
Speaker 8: people here in the region. If they see one region,
5:09
Speaker 8: they visit another and another. So it's a collaboration and
5:13
Speaker 8: an effort that it's working.
5:15
Speaker 6: Indeed it is. And you've got a couple things going
5:17
Speaker 6: on you want to talk about in the city of Nitro. Tomorrow,
5:20
Speaker 6: the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association, some of my favorite people, are
5:23
Speaker 6: coming to town for a mobile clinic. Talk about that.
5:26
Speaker 8: Well, first off, don't let the rain tomorrow send you
5:31
Speaker 8: away with your pets that might need to be vaccinated
5:34
Speaker 8: because it's their new mobile clinic. And it will be
5:38
Speaker 8: in Nitro tomorrow from 9 until 3. And the mobile
5:42
Speaker 8: clinic will be located in the parking lot of the
5:46
Speaker 8: Nitro library. It won't be in the library. but, you know,
5:49
Speaker 8: I mean, people sometimes show up for something when we
5:52
Speaker 8: have going on in the parking lot and they go
5:54
Speaker 8: into the library. No, if you need to go in
5:56
Speaker 8: the library, that's fine, but it'll be outside and they
5:59
Speaker 8: will be offering vaccinations, the various different forms of vaccinations
6:03
Speaker 8: that the pets will be needing, you know, and like
6:07
Speaker 8: flea medications also. And you can also get your animal
6:10
Speaker 8: microchipped for $ 25. So it's just, I really like the
6:16
Speaker 8: fact that the Humane Association, the Charleston Humane Association, is
6:20
Speaker 8: taking it to the people now and really working with
6:24
Speaker 8: them to make sure that their family pets are up
6:28
Speaker 8: to speed on all their vaccinations. And I really like
6:31
Speaker 8: the microchipping scenario.
6:33
Speaker 6: Oh, yeah, absolutely. We're talking to Joe Stevens from the
6:35
Speaker 6: city of Nitro. What are the hours for this event tomorrow?
6:39
Speaker 8: Again, it'll start at 9 o'clock and go until about
6:42
Speaker 8: 3 o'clock. And easy access into the parking lot. It's
6:47
Speaker 8: a huge parking lot. But you will go inside the clinic.
6:51
Speaker 8: You'll be outside of the weather, inside from the weather,
6:55
Speaker 8: as it may be, and be taking care of that.
6:58
Speaker 8: One thing, please remember, it will be cash only tomorrow.
7:01
Speaker 8: There's not Wi-Fi access where they will be. So it
7:05
Speaker 8: will be cash only tomorrow for any of the vaccinations
7:08
Speaker 8: that you need for your animals. And you can start
7:12
Speaker 8: charting so that they can let you know when you
7:15
Speaker 8: need them moving forward.
7:17
Speaker 6: Yeah, and again, it's going to start about 9 tomorrow morning.
7:19
Speaker 6: Hats off to the folks at the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association
7:22
Speaker 6: for making this available. And as you said, Joe, taking
7:24
Speaker 6: it to the people. I really like the convenience aspect
7:27
Speaker 6: of that. It's 9.15, the Dave Allen Show on 580 Live,
7:29
Speaker 6: brought to you in part by Morgan & Morgan. If
7:31
Speaker 6: you're injured... Hire Morgan & Morgan, America's largest injury law firm. Now,
7:35
Speaker 6: you've got a big event going on for the RC cars,
7:37
Speaker 6: the remote-control cars, I understand, this weekend.
7:40
Speaker 8: I tell you what, last year we brought them into
7:42
Speaker 8: town for the chili cook-off, and we had them over
7:45
Speaker 8: on 21st Street, and they were everywhere. I mean, everywhere.
7:49
Speaker 8: You heard this buzzing. I thought there were drones around,
7:52
Speaker 8: but there were remote-control cars just everywhere. And TJ, the
7:57
Speaker 8: owner of Pizza— to the pit crawl zone, and the
8:00
Speaker 8: pit in Nitro came to the CVB and said, I'd
8:04
Speaker 8: like to put an event on at Ridenour Lake. And
8:09
Speaker 8: we said, sure. After I saw what happened at the
8:12
Speaker 8: chili cook-off, I said, heck yeah, let's do it. So
8:15
Speaker 8: he's already got about 200 entries into this event that'll
8:19
Speaker 8: be happening Saturday at the Ridenour Lake Preserve, and it'll
8:24
Speaker 8: be happening over on Shelter 5, which is on the
8:26
Speaker 8: back side, right at the main trailhead. They have, for
8:30
Speaker 8: about two or three weeks now, they have been constructing
8:33
Speaker 8: courses for this event, bringing in a lot of rocks,
8:37
Speaker 8: a lot of stone and everything. It's often to the side,
8:41
Speaker 8: and I tell you what, they were out there practicing
8:45
Speaker 8: the other day. It was just a lot of fun
8:47
Speaker 8: to watch these remote-controlled cars, trucks, what have you, climbing
8:52
Speaker 8: up the rocks and doing what they do best. Have
8:56
Speaker 8: some fun.
8:57
Speaker 6: Well, and I tell you, this thing is huge. I mean,
9:01
Speaker 6: this whole remote control thing across America, I've got a
9:03
Speaker 6: couple of my buddies that are into this. If you
9:05
Speaker 6: think this is something that is just for kids, I mean,
9:09
Speaker 6: people spend a lot of money on these cars, and
9:11
Speaker 6: people love to come out to these events.
9:14
Speaker 8: And you know what? They take it serious. I mean,
9:17
Speaker 8: they really, really do. And what I did see when
9:21
Speaker 8: we had it on 21st Street, they will help each other.
9:24
Speaker 8: It's like, Everybody else, everybody is everybody else's pit crew.
9:29
Speaker 8: And I don't think there'll be any, it won't be
9:31
Speaker 8: any fighting in this pit crew scene this week that
9:35
Speaker 8: we had in NASCAR.
9:36
Speaker 6: Was that wild or what, man? I mean, with Josevar
9:40
Speaker 6: and Blaney going at it after. And look, I'm a
9:43
Speaker 6: NASCAR fan going, Joe, going way back. And I mean,
9:47
Speaker 6: NASCAR over the last couple of years has been pretty boring.
9:49
Speaker 6: I'm not going to lie to you. All the cars
9:51
Speaker 6: look exactly the same. They change sponsors every week. So
9:54
Speaker 6: you can't go out, you know, with the STP car
9:56
Speaker 6: or the good wrench car like we had for so
9:58
Speaker 6: many years. But they never.
10:00
Speaker 1: that.
10:01
Speaker 6: And especially in Bristol, which, you know, is iconic in
10:04
Speaker 6: and of itself. I didn't, I was already asleep because
10:06
Speaker 6: I'm old, uh, but I did see the, uh, highlights
10:09
Speaker 6: the next morning. And I thought, man, that's, that's good
10:12
Speaker 6: stuff right there.
10:14
Speaker 8: You, without a doubt. And you need to go and
10:16
Speaker 8: check out, uh, the, uh, podcast from, uh, from Denny
10:22
Speaker 8: Hamlin yesterday. He had Ryan Blaney on it talking about it,
10:26
Speaker 8: and Ryan was just straight up, you just got to
10:28
Speaker 8: go watch it to see what I'm talking about and everything.
10:31
Speaker 8: And he told the world, I'm about to do something,
10:34
Speaker 8: and he did it.
10:35
Speaker 6: He did, indeed. And I'll say this, Josavar throws a
10:40
Speaker 6: pretty mean right punch.
10:42
Speaker 8: I tell you what, when you're 6'3, 210 pounds or so,
10:44
Speaker 8: you can pack it.
10:48
Speaker 6: Yeah, and I give him credit for having the helmets off.
10:50
Speaker 6: You know, one of my heroes, Ric Flair, was down there,
10:54
Speaker 6: and they asked him if he had any advice to
10:57
Speaker 6: give to NASCAR racers. And I think this was actually
11:00
Speaker 6: before the fight about cutting promos and how to do
11:03
Speaker 6: it correctly. And Ric said, take your helmet off. And
11:06
Speaker 6: this goes for football, too. If you're going to fight,
11:08
Speaker 6: take the helmets off. Be a man, which I thought
11:10
Speaker 6: was kind of cool. All right, so this event is, again, Saturday.
11:14
Speaker 6: And give us all the details on it again.
11:17
Speaker 8: Okay, it'll start around 9 o'clock, and it'll go until
11:20
Speaker 8: they're done racing. There's no end time on it. It's
11:23
Speaker 8: located at the Rodnauer Lake Preserve over at the main trailhead,
11:27
Speaker 8: which is right there at Shelter 5. You go across
11:30
Speaker 8: the dam and just follow the road around. It'll take
11:33
Speaker 8: you right to it. TJ and the Pit Crawl Zone
11:36
Speaker 8: will be having everything set up, and registration will be
11:40
Speaker 8: going on. If you've got any questions or you need...
11:44
Speaker 8: If you need some more information, you can go to thepitcrawlzone.net.
11:49
Speaker 8: That's thepitcrawlzone.net. Or you can check out their Facebook page,
11:57
Speaker 8: and you can get all the information there, David. It'll
11:59
Speaker 8: be a lot of fun.
11:59
Speaker 6: Yeah, sounds like it. All right, Joe, enjoy the rest
12:01
Speaker 6: of the tourism conference. Pick us up some swag while
12:03
Speaker 6: you're there, will you?
12:05
Speaker 8: Always, my friend, always.
12:06
Speaker 6: And the tourism secretary, Kayla Kessinger, will be on Mitra
12:09
Speaker 6: News Midday today. So I'll throw that out there. Hey, Joe,
12:12
Speaker 6: it's always a pleasure, man. Keep doing great things in Nitro.
12:14
Speaker 6: We'll talk soon.
12:16
Speaker 8: Be safe, my friend. Be safe.
12:18
Speaker 3: All right.
12:19
Speaker 6: So we are going to take a break. When we
12:20
Speaker 6: come back a little bit later on, Burke Allen, Allen
12:23
Speaker 6: Media Strategies, is going to join us to talk about
12:25
Speaker 6: this whole dust-up with the president banning MSNOW, Politico, and CNN,
12:30
Speaker 6: and now others coming out and saying, well, you know what,
12:33
Speaker 6: if that's the way you want to be, then we're
12:34
Speaker 6: not coming either, including Fox News. And now the president
12:37
Speaker 6: is starting his own, and this was announced last night,
12:40
Speaker 6: his own television platform. Trump TV. And you're going to
12:43
Speaker 6: love the slogan of it, which I'll get to a
12:45
Speaker 6: little bit later on. We'll cover that. Plus, Brian Hughes,
12:48
Speaker 6: Metro News meteorologist, is standing by next. Back after this
12:51
Speaker 6: on The Voice of Charleston, WCHS.

15:42
Speaker 6: Didn't know if you'd be on the air today or
15:44
Speaker 6: not after disagreeing with the president on policies. I'm still here.
15:49
Speaker 6: Still here. Dex says, good for Tony the tailor not
15:51
Speaker 6: going along with caving to the bullying tactic known as
15:55
Speaker 6: political correctness. By the way, the people that demanded the
15:58
Speaker 6: names of the Redskins and Indians be changed did so, quote,
16:01
Speaker 6: on others' behalf. Not even members of those tribes and
16:04
Speaker 6: members of those tribes had no problem with the name.
16:06
Speaker 6: So people just need to sit down, shut up, stop
16:09
Speaker 6: looking for things to be offended and complain about. By

Speaker 6: the way, as an alum, I got to say Sissonville,
16:14
Speaker 6: you better not ever cave to the mob and change
16:16
Speaker 6: your name. You will always be the Indians, says the texture,
16:20
Speaker 6: much like Hurricane. Those of the Hurricane have said they
16:22
Speaker 6: will always be the Redskins. And the words Tony the
16:24
Speaker 6: Taylor and political correct would never be in the same
16:27
Speaker 6: sentence at all. Let's bring in now Metro News meteorologist
16:30
Speaker 6: Brian Hughes. How you doing, my friend?
16:33
Speaker 2: Well, I'm sitting on the Ohio River watching the floodwaters
16:38
Speaker 2: go by.
16:39
Speaker 6: Okay, so where are you and how bad is it
16:40
Speaker 6: where you are?
16:42
Speaker 2: Well, I'm in Point Pleasant, and we've got a number
16:45
Speaker 2: of our thermal boats with the American Thermal Association that
16:47
Speaker 2: are down here.
16:48
Speaker 7: We were going to be in Pomeroy.
16:50
Speaker 2: Have a great wrap-up to the festival season for this weekend,
16:54
Speaker 2: but Mother Nature is always in charge. So, you know,
16:57
Speaker 2: we've obviously had over the last week, we've had just
17:01
Speaker 2: a ton of flash flood warnings.
17:03
Speaker 7: All across the region.
17:04
Speaker 2: You've heard them on the radio, you've seen them on TV,
17:07
Speaker 2: and they've just been a problem. Matter of fact, this
17:08
Speaker 2: is probably going to end up as being the most
17:12
Speaker 2: warned year in the National Weather Service history for the
17:15
Speaker 2: state of West Virginia.
17:16
Speaker 6: The most warned year. That's interesting. That's an interesting way
17:20
Speaker 6: to put it.
17:21
Speaker 2: And most of it's on the flash flood side, you know,
17:24
Speaker 2: but barely, you know, it's been a few tornado warnings
17:26
Speaker 2: and a lot of it's going to be flash flooding. So, Thankfully,
17:30
Speaker 2: it's in different places than it has been over the
17:32
Speaker 2: past couple of years, so that's at least the good
17:34
Speaker 2: news out of it. But we still have the sprinkles
17:37
Speaker 2: that are wrapping up this morning. We do expect more
17:39
Speaker 2: rain to return as we head into the seeding and tonight.
17:43
Speaker 2: Matter of fact, you know, looking at the forecast models
17:46
Speaker 2: even right now, you know, you've got stuff that fires
17:49
Speaker 2: up around the Kanawha Valley as we.
17:50
Speaker 7: Get into the.
17:52
Speaker 2: Really, we've got some thunderstorm chances close to it, probably
17:55
Speaker 2: south of us as we go into this afternoon by 5,
17:58
Speaker 2: 6 o'clock and into the mountains. Very similar to what
18:00
Speaker 2: we had yesterday afternoon and evening.
18:02
Speaker 12: And then.
18:03
Speaker 3: Oh, goodness.
18:04
Speaker 2: Going into your Thursday, that's when, excuse me, Wednesday, tomorrow, Wednesday,
18:10
Speaker 2: that's when we have more widespread showers and storms returning.
18:13
Speaker 2: We could see, on average, about half an inch for
18:16
Speaker 2: the day tomorrow. But then after that, man, Mother Nature
18:19
Speaker 2: does turn on the You know, the Chamber of Commerce days.
18:23
Speaker 2: We're going to see temperatures because, listen, everybody wants Chamber
18:26
Speaker 2: of Commerce days. But we're going to go for temperatures
18:29
Speaker 2: on Thursday at 69.70 and then 69.68 for your Friday, Saturday.
18:36
Speaker 2: All dry Thursday on into the first part of next week.
18:39
Speaker 6: Looking good for high school football Friday night. I know
18:41
Speaker 6: Marshall's got their homecoming Saturday afternoon, so the weather's looking great, right?
18:45
Speaker 7: Oh, that's an early day. It is an early day
18:47
Speaker 7: for homecoming.
18:48
Speaker 8: It is.
18:48
Speaker 1: It is.
18:49
Speaker 7: It really is. But it's going to be great weather.
18:52
Speaker 2: So any of your college football Saturday stuff, whether you're
18:54
Speaker 2: going to be at Marshall or you're going to be
18:55
Speaker 2: up there at the Oklahoma State game with the Big
18:57
Speaker 2: 12 opener with the Mountaineers, great, great weather. But, you know,
19:02
Speaker 2: as you go into it, think about this. For that
19:04
Speaker 2: night game up there in Morgantown, if your head's there.
19:06
Speaker 2: You're definitely going to need the jackets, the jeans, sweatshirts,
19:08
Speaker 2: stuff like that, because overnight lows starting Friday morning all
19:12
Speaker 2: the way into the weekend are going to be in
19:13
Speaker 2: the mid to upper 40s around the region.
19:15
Speaker 8: All right.
19:15
Speaker 6: I want to ask you a dumb question because that's
19:17
Speaker 6: what I do better than anybody, Brian, okay? So today's
19:21
Speaker 6: the first day of fall. I think it's officially like 8.05
19:24
Speaker 6: this evening, right? Is that what I read? Yes, that
19:26
Speaker 6: is correct.
19:27
Speaker 8: Okay.
19:27
Speaker 6: So why does the season have something to do with
19:31
Speaker 6: the moon, the stars? I don't know, something like that.
19:33
Speaker 6: But why does it change? Because here's the reason I
19:36
Speaker 6: say that, the date of when the change of the seasons.
19:38
Speaker 6: Because I used to tell people tomorrow's my birthday, cheap plug.
19:42
Speaker 6: And I used to say to people, oh, my birthday
19:44
Speaker 6: is the first day of fall. Well, it's not this year.
19:47
Speaker 6: So why does it change?
19:49
Speaker 8: Well, it changes.
19:50
Speaker 2: Only because of the way the gravitational forces work with
19:55
Speaker 2: the Earth and the sun. And the moon has a
19:58
Speaker 2: little issue in that.
20:00
Speaker 7: But they always circle around the same areas, roughly.
20:03
Speaker 2: And it just changes because of the way the magnetic
20:05
Speaker 2: patterns are for the poles as well as the gravitational
20:09
Speaker 2: forces across the entire solar system.
20:10
Speaker 6: I knew you would know this because you know stuff.
20:14
Speaker 7: I know some really stupid things.
20:16
Speaker 8: Okay.
20:17
Speaker 9: No, you know what?
20:18
Speaker 6: This stuff is important. So I was just always wondering that.
20:21
Speaker 6: How do they decide that? Because it's always, but it's
20:23
Speaker 6: always either the 22nd or 23rd. Am I safe in
20:25
Speaker 6: saying that?
20:27
Speaker 3: Yes.
20:28
Speaker 2: Well, sometimes they give you the 21st, 22nd, and then,
20:30
Speaker 2: you know. 20 seconds is usually the day.
20:32
Speaker 8: Okay.
20:33
Speaker 7: You have 21st and 23rd that it can land on.
20:35
Speaker 2: But, you know, this is all about the moment that sun,
20:39
Speaker 2: the sun's angle is directly over the equator.
20:43
Speaker 7: So that's what it's all about.
20:44
Speaker 8: All right.
20:44
Speaker 7: Crossing that boundary line.
20:46
Speaker 13: Okay.
20:46
Speaker 6: So getting back to the weather we've had with, I mean,
20:49
Speaker 6: it's like nonstop. It's like I'm driving into work this
20:51
Speaker 6: morning and I just get hit with about South Charleston.
20:53
Speaker 6: So like just a, I mean, like buckets of rain
20:55
Speaker 6: coming down. And I'm thinking, is this normal? I mean,
20:59
Speaker 6: you said this is going to be the most warned weather.
21:02
Speaker 6: few months we've had maybe in weather history. But I mean,
21:04
Speaker 6: are we getting an abnormally huge amount of rain or
21:09
Speaker 6: does it just seem that way? And is it is
21:11
Speaker 6: this normal? Because to me, it ain't. But you're the
21:14
Speaker 6: weather guy.
21:15
Speaker 7: It is not normal.
21:16
Speaker 2: As a matter of fact, you know, we're going to
21:18
Speaker 2: go into the winter with a surplus of rain, and
21:21
Speaker 2: we're going to make it through winter most likely with
21:23
Speaker 2: a surplus of rain, because when you're in super El
21:25
Speaker 2: Nino years, super El Nino years, that's what you get.
21:29
Speaker 2: You get an overproduction of rain across the eastern part
21:32
Speaker 2: of the country.
21:33
Speaker 7: And then, you know, the only thing about our territory.
21:36
Speaker 2: Is we are the dividing line between polar air pollution,
21:39
Speaker 2: and then that southern air that comes up out of
21:41
Speaker 2: the Gulf of Mexico.
21:42
Speaker 7: And we're sort of a fighting line.
21:44
Speaker 2: We're essentially a Mason-Dixon line for the weather gods. And
21:49
Speaker 2: with that you have polar air that can cross down
21:53
Speaker 2: to the deep south. But then one of those storms,
21:55
Speaker 2: as it comes up and over that, that's when we
21:57
Speaker 2: can have those massive storms. And that's what you see
22:00
Speaker 2: in 2016.
22:01
Speaker 7: You go back.
22:01
Speaker 2: To the big super storms. Those were in super El
22:06
Speaker 2: Nino years. So Mother Nature can surprise us, but it might.
22:09
Speaker 7: Be just a muddy, wet winter.
22:12
Speaker 6: Let's talk about the fall forest fire season. I mean,
22:14
Speaker 6: it'll be here before you know it with all the rain.
22:16
Speaker 6: We don't know what the next few weeks are going
22:18
Speaker 6: to hold. Well, actually, probably you do. But normal people
22:20
Speaker 6: don't know what's going to happen over the next few weeks.
22:22
Speaker 6: Is that alleviated some of the talk of fall forest
22:26
Speaker 6: fires with all the rain we've had?
22:28
Speaker 2: It absolutely has. I mean, this is one of those
22:31
Speaker 2: times that you go, wow. We're going to have a
22:33
Speaker 2: heck of a leaf season, leafy season. So when you
22:38
Speaker 2: look at what we've got as far as the shower
22:42
Speaker 2: and storm chances going into even next week, this week
22:44
Speaker 2: and the next week, we're dry all this weekend. But
22:46
Speaker 2: as we get in the middle and into next week,
22:47
Speaker 2: there's a couple.
22:48
Speaker 7: Of shower chances to come back.
22:49
Speaker 2: But for the fall fire season, we are looking at
22:54
Speaker 2: a limited problem. You will still have those dry days
22:57
Speaker 2: when you get that north wind and it dries things out.
23:00
Speaker 2: But it's not going to be what it's been over
23:01
Speaker 2: the past few years.
23:02
Speaker 6: And yesterday, and we'll let you go, we had on
23:05
Speaker 6: midday yesterday a county commissioner from Lewis County. And man,
23:08
Speaker 6: those poor people up there, they got hammered again and
23:10
Speaker 6: they just keep getting it. I think she said that
23:12
Speaker 6: was the fourth flooding event. Commissioner Queen said on the
23:16
Speaker 6: show yesterday that was the fourth flooding event that they've
23:18
Speaker 6: had in the last little bit. Those people just can't
23:20
Speaker 6: catch a break up there.
23:22
Speaker 7: They can.
23:24
Speaker 2: Because we've had a number of flash flood warnings after
23:27
Speaker 2: that event.
23:29
Speaker 7: When we were looking at that, I was talking to the.
23:31
Speaker 2: Head of the EAS, the West Virginia Emergency Alert System,
23:35
Speaker 2: and that is our chief engineer for West Virginia Radio Corporation.
23:38
Speaker 7: He goes, I did a test, and just in the.
23:40
Speaker 2: Morgantown market alone, over the first half of the severe
23:43
Speaker 2: weather season, we had had over 230 emergency alert notices
23:49
Speaker 2: that went out. That is unparalleled it's never happened in
23:52
Speaker 2: our company's history so you know we're we're in for
23:55
Speaker 2: it and we are seeing when you go look at
23:58
Speaker 2: over the past 50 years the lineup of uh of
24:01
Speaker 2: weather events you will see coming out of southern ohio
24:05
Speaker 2: towards that clarksburg area back there in the lewis-upshire counties
24:08
Speaker 2: you'll see a target there's just a line that you
24:11
Speaker 2: can almost draw there that we've had events over the
24:14
Speaker 2: past uh over the past number of years.
24:15
Speaker 6: And really for the past 50 years are we going
24:17
Speaker 6: to uh point and say it's climate change brian because
24:19
Speaker 6: you know that gets everybody riled up and you'll fill
24:21
Speaker 6: up my text line if you say it is.
24:24
Speaker 2: I will tell you this all you have to do
24:27
Speaker 2: is ask your great grandmother great grandfather or grandmother grandfather
24:30
Speaker 2: or your mother and say now.
24:33
Speaker 7: Back in the day was the weather like this and
24:35
Speaker 7: they will tell you no and those are the people that.
24:38
Speaker 2: You pay attention to it because listen we have the
24:41
Speaker 2: data that shows that climate has changed And it's just
24:46
Speaker 2: a minute change, but there's a chance it all swings
24:49
Speaker 2: back the other way over the next 60 to 100 years.
24:51
Speaker 6: Okay. That's why I like talking to you, because you
24:55
Speaker 6: have common sense. You know, that's why I like, I mean,
24:58
Speaker 6: you got common sense. That's why we like to have
25:00
Speaker 6: you around. That's all you have to do.
25:02
Speaker 8: Talk to the old folks.
25:04
Speaker 7: They will tell you what's going on.
25:05
Speaker 6: Well, the problem is, Brian, I am the old folks now.
25:07
Speaker 6: That's the problem. You know, I am the old folks.
25:11
Speaker 6: I'm getting older, especially tomorrow. I expect a gift from you.
25:14
Speaker 6: Metro News meteorologist Brian Hughes, man, be safe out there
25:17
Speaker 6: in all seriousness, and we'll talk soon. Thanks a lot.
25:19
Speaker 9: Okay.
25:20
Speaker 2: Sounds good.
25:20
Speaker 6: Thank you.
25:21
Speaker 7: All right.
25:21
Speaker 6: It is 27 minutes away from 10 here on a
25:24
Speaker 6: Tuesday morning. What is this show? It's the Dave Allen Show.
25:27
Speaker 6: That's what it is. And we're brought to you by
25:29
Speaker 6: Huston's Pizza, where this month you can get a large
25:31
Speaker 6: 18-inch pepperoni pizza and an order of meatballs $ 24. 99. Find
25:35
Speaker 6: your nearest Huston's for delivery, dine-in, or pickup at hustonspizza.com.
25:38
Speaker 6: It is true what Brian said, though. There are people
25:41
Speaker 6: that will say, and my grandparents have all passed, my
25:44
Speaker 6: parents have passed, but they will say things like, well,
25:48
Speaker 6: I want to snow like we used to have. I
25:50
Speaker 6: want the big old snow. And I don't know that
25:52
Speaker 6: the weather is any different. I think just the way
25:54
Speaker 6: we react to it is a little bit differently. I
25:58
Speaker 6: think so. And look, I don't get into these debates
26:01
Speaker 6: with people. I am a believer in Hear me out,
26:04
Speaker 6: and I've said this on the air before. I'm a
26:06
Speaker 6: believer in climate change. My jury is out, especially when
26:10
Speaker 6: I talk to people like Brian Hughes, as to how
26:12
Speaker 6: much we actually have to do with it. And as
26:14
Speaker 6: Brian said, another 50 years or so, it could swing
26:17
Speaker 6: back the other way. And if you want something that's,
26:22
Speaker 6: I guess, on the positive side, to my knowledge, I'll
26:24
Speaker 6: look it up during the break, no named Atlantic hurricanes
26:28
Speaker 6: this season for the first time in a long time.
26:29
Speaker 6: I'll get the exact data, but there was no named
26:31
Speaker 6: Atlantic hurricanes. full-fledged hurricanes. And we're still in hurricane season,
26:35
Speaker 6: I think, through November, but none this year. And it
26:38
Speaker 6: was predicted to be a very, very active hurricane season.
26:41
Speaker 6: Turns out that was not the case. 26 minutes away
26:44
Speaker 6: from 10, a text says NASCAR started the downhill plunge
26:47
Speaker 6: after the death of Dale Earnhardt that had the final
26:50
Speaker 6: nail in the coffin when Jr. retired. I would say something.
26:54
Speaker 6: I would say something for that. Text said, don't let
26:57
Speaker 6: Republicans take away your freedom of speech. Let them know
27:00
Speaker 6: it's not going to happen. around here. Text, Dave had
27:06
Speaker 6: the perfect slogan for the new Trump TV network, Trump News,
27:09
Speaker 6: stupidity at its best. Text, no ship or military base
27:16
Speaker 6: should be named after this draft-dodging president. It dishonors those
27:20
Speaker 6: who actually served in the military. Also, his name should
27:23
Speaker 6: not be along that of President Kennedy. President Kennedy was
27:26
Speaker 6: a war hero. If you have any doubts, just watch
27:28
Speaker 6: the movie PT-109. That's pretty much word for word what
27:32
Speaker 6: Danny Jones said on the show yesterday. We're going to

30:24
Speaker 6: South Charleston, Texas. NASCAR is back, baby. Carson Hosovar is
30:29
Speaker 6: leading the way. So over the last few days, the
30:32
Speaker 6: president announced he was banning MSNOW, formerly MSNBC, Politico, and
30:38
Speaker 6: CNN from the White House. And they say they're suing,
30:41
Speaker 6: and now even Fox News correspondents are calling him out
30:43
Speaker 6: on it. Now the White House is talking about doing
30:46
Speaker 6: something called Trump TV to distribute his own feed. abc
30:51
Speaker 6: cbs nbc declined to cover recent briefings and you know
30:55
Speaker 6: it's bad when fox news comes to the defense of
30:58
Speaker 6: cnn here to talk about it media expert president of
31:01
Speaker 6: allen media strategies big brother burke allen how you doing
31:04
Speaker 6: my friend welcome to the show.
31:05
Speaker 3: Man that's quite a build-up i'm just a logan county
31:09
Speaker 3: boy that's who.
31:09
Speaker 6: I am logan county boy in nashville right now with
31:13
Speaker 6: our friend of the network del nora what's del nora
31:15
Speaker 6: doing uh down in nashville Hey, we.
31:18
Speaker 3: Were at the Grand Ole Opry Sunday night, which is
31:20
Speaker 3: kind of cool, man. She was nominated for a bunch
31:22
Speaker 3: of Josie Music Awards, and that's the biggest independent artist
31:26
Speaker 3: event in the country. And I think they said there
31:29
Speaker 3: were 101,000 nominees this year. And so she made the uppercut.
31:34
Speaker 3: And as they say, it's an honor to be nominated.
31:37
Speaker 3: And so was our company, by the way, which was
31:39
Speaker 3: kind of cool, an artist management company. And I'm kind
31:42
Speaker 3: of glad I'm not in Washington, D.C. this week. Because
31:45
Speaker 3: that whole town is just, they're a tither. You know what,
31:50
Speaker 3: they're in a wad over this whole thing with the
31:53
Speaker 3: press being banned from the press pool.
31:55
Speaker 6: Okay, so let's take us back here. I mean, the
31:57
Speaker 6: president called out CNN, MSNOW, as I said, formerly MSNBC
32:01
Speaker 6: and Politico, basically saying, you know, they can't ban him
32:05
Speaker 6: from covering him because all the stuff's available online. But
32:08
Speaker 6: banning them from, I guess, being live in person, right?
32:13
Speaker 3: Yeah, so here's the thing. To most people, I would assume, David,
32:17
Speaker 3: this looks like it's an inside baseball, who really cares story,
32:21
Speaker 3: and CNN and MSNL got what's coming to them. But
32:26
Speaker 3: this isn't really about liking a network. It's about the
32:30
Speaker 3: public's right to know what's going on. So, you know,
32:33
Speaker 3: when this administration or any administration picks winners and losers
32:37
Speaker 3: in access, the losers are us, the people, because we
32:42
Speaker 3: lose that transparency. And once you credential the press as
32:47
Speaker 3: a whole, you know, if you say one can come in, well,
32:49
Speaker 3: you can't yank access away. over the coverage you don't like.
32:54
Speaker 3: That's the First Amendment concern, right? So, you know, retaliation
32:58
Speaker 3: for reporting is a line that.
33:01
Speaker 8: You can't normalize.
33:02
Speaker 3: And I think you hit it on the head when
33:04
Speaker 3: you said that the solidarity thing for Fox News, that
33:07
Speaker 3: is the headline, because that signals this is bigger than
33:12
Speaker 3: any partisan media. There's no question that MS now leans
33:15
Speaker 3: way to the left and CNN leans pretty far to
33:18
Speaker 3: the left. But when the folks at Fox come in
33:21
Speaker 3: as part of this press pool and they and other
33:24
Speaker 3: competitors stand together, that's a warning sign that this precedent
33:27
Speaker 3: is pretty dangerous for everybody.
33:29
Speaker 6: Well, and I have to give an apology to the
33:31
Speaker 6: folks at Fox because I said that yesterday, I said
33:35
Speaker 6: that I did not predict that Fox News would actually
33:38
Speaker 6: come to their defense, and they did. They actually did.
33:41
Speaker 6: So big, big props to the folks at Fox News
33:43
Speaker 6: for doing that, for basically coming and saying, look, we
33:47
Speaker 6: stand in solidarity. Then there was that moment yesterday, I
33:50
Speaker 6: don't know whether you saw this or not, but I
33:52
Speaker 6: guess the president wasn't mic'd up properly, and he was
33:56
Speaker 6: attempting to give a speech and all you heard was
33:58
Speaker 6: the helicopter sounds. Maybe that's part of the whole thing.
34:01
Speaker 6: You know, I don't know. Let me play devil's advocate
34:05
Speaker 6: here for a moment, Burke. OK, so.
34:07
Speaker 3: All right.
34:07
Speaker 6: So what you're saying is, is that, you know, the
34:11
Speaker 6: president is saying these folks cannot or are not allowed
34:14
Speaker 6: to cover him. OK, but what would be to play
34:18
Speaker 6: devil's advocate here? I mean, it's not like they as
34:20
Speaker 6: I said in the opener, they sound like they can't
34:22
Speaker 6: report anything. They can get the news on what he's
34:27
Speaker 6: saying by watching one of the other networks, by watching
34:30
Speaker 6: online or something like that. So my point is, is
34:34
Speaker 6: it just plain devil's advocate here? I mean, the news
34:39
Speaker 6: is still there to be reported on whether they're in
34:40
Speaker 6: person or not.
34:43
Speaker 3: Yeah, you're right. And there are a couple of things
34:45
Speaker 3: that you should understand, right? So one of them is
34:48
Speaker 3: that this comes down to logistics. The press pool is
34:51
Speaker 3: there because there's literally a limited amount of space to cover, right?
34:58
Speaker 3: So there's one outlet, and they rotate them out, does
35:01
Speaker 3: the TV feed, and then they distribute that information to everybody.
35:05
Speaker 3: And one or two photographers will shoot, and then they
35:07
Speaker 3: distribute those photographs to everybody. So it's a space and
35:10
Speaker 3: logistics and a money thing because it costs money. hundreds
35:13
Speaker 3: of thousands of dollars whenever the president mobilizes to send
35:16
Speaker 3: people out with him. So there's that. But let me
35:18
Speaker 3: put it in. You're a big football guy, so I'll
35:21
Speaker 3: put it in a sports analogy. And we both grew
35:24
Speaker 3: up in Logan, so we may or may not have
35:26
Speaker 3: seen this. When people think the ref is picking the teams,
35:30
Speaker 3: they stop believing the score, right? And that's what's happening here. Transparency,
35:35
Speaker 3: you know, this White House, We'll tell you this about
35:39
Speaker 3: President Trump. He is a master marketer. That guy can
35:43
Speaker 3: come up with a slogan that sticks, you know, MAGA,
35:46
Speaker 3: you know, make America great again. And, you know, when
35:49
Speaker 3: we talked about the one big, beautiful bill and this
35:52
Speaker 3: fake news thing that has stuck in America's.
35:55
Speaker 6: Psyche for 10 years, fake news has been around for 10.
35:58
Speaker 6: I mean, the term fake news has been around for
36:00
Speaker 6: over 10 years now.
36:01
Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's him, right? And so he comes up
36:04
Speaker 3: with that stuff. But transparency is the antidote to fake news, right?
36:10
Speaker 3: The more access, the more facts... The more sunlight all
36:15
Speaker 3: of us see, then the less opportunity there is for
36:18
Speaker 3: fake news. You don't shut down fake news by cutting
36:21
Speaker 3: some reporters out of there. This is a power move.
36:24
Speaker 3: They want to control how they frame stories up by
36:27
Speaker 3: controlling who's in the room and having that direct access.
36:33
Speaker 3: So who's the loser? Well, the American public are, because
36:36
Speaker 3: if nobody is in there covering him with a balance,
36:40
Speaker 3: the fair balance thing, then we're left in the dark.
36:43
Speaker 3: So that's the bad news there.
36:44
Speaker 6: All right. And now it was announced last night, Trump TV.
36:48
Speaker 6: This is the actual name here. Trump TV, the essentials station.
36:53
Speaker 6: And this is their tagline. Watch the Trump administration's biggest
36:57
Speaker 6: moments all in one place. Top videos, major remarks, and
37:01
Speaker 6: must-see highlights streaming 24-7 and updated in real time. Stay
37:05
Speaker 6: informed and stay up-to-date. End quote. That is the slogan.
37:10
Speaker 3: Sure. And that will energize the Trump base. But it
37:13
Speaker 3: also creates a bigger story than whatever the message of
37:16
Speaker 3: the day is, right? So just him saying that will eclipse...
37:22
Speaker 3: what's actually happening out there, especially if it's something that
37:24
Speaker 3: they want to bury under the rug. If you ever notice,
37:29
Speaker 3: this administration does something that every administration has done since
37:32
Speaker 3: I started my company 26 years ago, Allen Media Strategies,
37:35
Speaker 3: and that is they will, if there's something they really,
37:38
Speaker 3: really don't want to talk about, But they have to.
37:41
Speaker 3: They put it out Friday afternoon at 5 o'clock. They
37:44
Speaker 3: know that normal Americans are going about with their weekend,
37:48
Speaker 3: and the press coverage will be really, really low. That's
37:51
Speaker 3: the old way of controlling the messaging. This new Trump
37:54
Speaker 3: initiative is another way. But I'll say again, Fox News
37:57
Speaker 3: standing with the competitors tells you this precedent is pretty risky,
38:01
Speaker 3: even if– If you're an ally, because what happens when,
38:05
Speaker 3: you know, it's a slippery slope, right? When they go
38:08
Speaker 3: back in and say, well, we don't like this coverage,
38:11
Speaker 3: so we're going to ban you guys next. So that's
38:13
Speaker 3: why this whole thing is going to end up in court.
38:17
Speaker 3: The process matters as much as the outcome does. Without
38:19
Speaker 3: notice of process, that's a big deal. Due process, clear
38:22
Speaker 3: standards will protect both the press but also the presidency.
38:27
Speaker 3: There's something good to be said of all that.
38:29
Speaker 6: Well, and let me just say this. One of the
38:32
Speaker 6: things that I think this administration has been very good at,
38:35
Speaker 6: Burke– and again, we're talking to Burke Allen of Allen
38:37
Speaker 6: Media Strategies– is creating diversion. And all the talk has
38:42
Speaker 6: been about gas prices, diesel prices, about the war in
38:45
Speaker 6: Iran that's becoming more and more unpopular every day, about
38:49
Speaker 6: how unpopular the president is now getting to be among Republicans.
38:52
Speaker 6: He's got an incredibly low approval rating among, obviously, Democrats,
38:57
Speaker 6: but a low approval rating now with independents and so
39:02
Speaker 6: on and so forth. How much of when he does
39:03
Speaker 6: these outrageous things is him just trying to create a diversion?
39:09
Speaker 3: I think that is certainly a part of it. I
39:12
Speaker 3: will also tell you, having, again, been in that city,
39:15
Speaker 3: I have a West Virginian in exile in Washington, D.C.,
39:19
Speaker 3: and that's kind of a sympathetic thing, right? That's why
39:21
Speaker 3: I sneak out and go to places like Nashville as
39:23
Speaker 3: much as I can or come back to West Virginia, which,
39:25
Speaker 3: by the way, a quick aside, I'm coming to Charleston
39:28
Speaker 3: on Monday, and I'm bringing these classic TV people in
39:31
Speaker 3: that you guys have done that promotion with, which is
39:33
Speaker 3: going to be a lot of fun.
39:33
Speaker 6: Yeah, we're going to talk about that, but continue your
39:35
Speaker 6: thought on the president, and we'll talk about why you're
39:37
Speaker 6: coming to town.
39:40
Speaker 3: So I think part of it is a diversionary tactic,
39:43
Speaker 3: but part of it is this president is dogged in
39:47
Speaker 3: getting what's important to him out into the public marketplace.
39:52
Speaker 3: He wants to talk about what he wants to talk
39:55
Speaker 3: about and what he's comfortable talking about. And he– look,
39:59
Speaker 3: the guy loves the camera. He loves to be in
40:02
Speaker 3: front of the press, but he wants the messaging to
40:05
Speaker 3: be what he wants it to be. And a great
40:08
Speaker 3: example also came yesterday, and it didn't get as much
40:11
Speaker 3: coverage because of this whole thing. The president was in
40:13
Speaker 3: New York City, and he sat down with Mayor Mondami,
40:15
Speaker 3: who could not be more politically opposite. Those two guys
40:19
Speaker 3: would not normally get along, but President Trump wanted to go.
40:24
Speaker 3: He was in New York for the United Nations thing.
40:26
Speaker 3: He wanted to be in Gracie Manchin. And I can
40:29
Speaker 3: guarantee you that people that advised him said, Mr. President,
40:33
Speaker 3: it's a bad look for you to be hanging out
40:35
Speaker 3: with Mondami and being nice to him and all that.
40:37
Speaker 3: But the president wanted to do what the president wanted
40:39
Speaker 3: to do, and by damn, he was going to do it.
40:41
Speaker 2: Yep.
40:42
Speaker 6: All right. Burke, I always appreciate your insights out on
40:45
Speaker 6: media strategies. I do want to talk about why you're
40:47
Speaker 6: coming to Charleston. We've got an event coming up on
40:49
Speaker 6: the 28th. That's Monday over at Capital Market. An opportunity
40:53
Speaker 6: for people to come out to Capital Market and meet Mr.
40:55
Speaker 6: Kathy Garver, who was Sissy on the show Family Affair, Mrs. Gilligan,
41:00
Speaker 6: Dream of Denver, and Julie McAuliffe, who was on the
41:02
Speaker 6: show Growing Pains, also Sharknado. They're coming to Charleston for
41:06
Speaker 6: an autograph session. Talk about it.
41:08
Speaker 3: Yeah. So if you're a classic TV fan, this is
41:10
Speaker 3: going to be a lot of fun. The truth of
41:12
Speaker 3: the matter is I'm coming in for some Tudor's biscuits
41:14
Speaker 3: and pepperoni rolls. Oh, yeah. This is a side reason
41:17
Speaker 3: to be there. So, yeah, if you watch Family Affair,
41:20
Speaker 3: and I caught the syndicated reruns when I was a kid,
41:23
Speaker 3: that show is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, amazingly.
41:27
Speaker 3: And Sissy has been, or Kathy Garber, who played Sissy,
41:29
Speaker 3: has been in the news a lot. Because back then,
41:31
Speaker 3: they wouldn't allow her to wear... a scandalous miniskirt, which
41:34
Speaker 3: was all the rage in the late 60s on the show.
41:36
Speaker 3: So Entertainment Weekly's been talking to her about that. She's
41:39
Speaker 3: coming back to the East Coast. She's still an actor.
41:41
Speaker 3: She's on TV and commercials and movies all the time now.
41:45
Speaker 3: But she's coming back to the East Coast to do
41:47
Speaker 3: a couple of appearances. One is in Charleston. And she
41:49
Speaker 3: and Dreama Denver are buddies because, of course, Dreama was
41:52
Speaker 3: married to Bob Denver, played Gilligan on Gilligan's Island. And
41:55
Speaker 3: Dreama did a whole bunch of TV shows and movies
41:58
Speaker 3: back in the day. And then they're teaming up with
42:00
Speaker 3: Julie McCullough. And Julie is the coolest thing. She's a
42:03
Speaker 3: West Virginian by choice. She now lives down in Mercer County,
42:08
Speaker 3: and she was on Growing Pains back in the 80s
42:10
Speaker 3: and Sharpnado. And Dave, I heard that she was also
42:15
Speaker 3: a Playboy Playmate back in the 80s. I don't know.
42:17
Speaker 3: I just read the article.
42:19
Speaker 6: I have to research that.
42:21
Speaker 3: I think you probably should. I mean, it's the right
42:23
Speaker 3: thing to do as a media professional.
42:24
Speaker 8: Oh, yeah.
42:26
Speaker 3: Those three ladies are going to get together, and we're
42:28
Speaker 3: going to do a little interview with them, and audience
42:32
Speaker 3: members will get asked Q & A questions, and then
42:36
Speaker 3: you can get selfies done, and they'll have books and
42:38
Speaker 3: pictures and all that kind of stuff that they can sign.
42:40
Speaker 3: It's just going to be a fun thing. It's kind
42:42
Speaker 3: of like the Golden Girls on tour.
42:43
Speaker 6: Yeah, and it's going to be at Capital Market. starts
42:47
Speaker 6: at 4 o'clock in our station, WCHS. We're going to
42:50
Speaker 6: be a big part of that. I'm going to be there.
42:51
Speaker 6: I think Coop's going to try to come over. I
42:52
Speaker 6: know he's on the air now. They get that new time,
42:55
Speaker 6: so maybe he will be able to come over. Maybe
42:57
Speaker 6: he and Weekly will be over there as well. But
42:59
Speaker 6: it's 4 until 6. There's no tickets needed on Monday.
43:03
Speaker 6: No tickets needed. Just show up and get to meet
43:06
Speaker 6: these people and ask them questions. It'll be a good time.
43:08
Speaker 6: Thanks for helping. Thanks for working with us to put
43:10
Speaker 6: this together.
43:11
Speaker 3: Well, it's going to be a blast. And by the way,
43:14
Speaker 3: if you would like to do a little something nice
43:16
Speaker 3: for the town, the ladies asked about the food bank there.
43:19
Speaker 3: And so if you bring a non-perishable food item and
43:21
Speaker 3: donate it to Union Mission, that would be appreciated. Not required,
43:25
Speaker 3: but bring it along and let's gather some food for
43:27
Speaker 3: folks back there in Canola Valley.
43:29
Speaker 6: And if anybody wants to go inside Capital Market and
43:31
Speaker 6: buy Burke and I dinner at Soho's, we'd be all
43:33
Speaker 6: about that. I'm just saying.
43:35
Speaker 3: No argument there.
43:36
Speaker 8: All right.
43:37
Speaker 6: Burke Allen, Allen Media Strategies. We will talk soon. Definitely.
43:40
Speaker 6: I'll see you on Monday, big brother. Thanks a lot.
43:43
Speaker 3: My pleasure. Always good to chat with you, buddy.
43:45
Speaker 6: All right.
43:46
Speaker 3: 951.
43:46
Speaker 6: Again, that event is going to be at Capital Market, 406.
43:48
Speaker 6: And it is Mrs. Gilligan, Dream of Denver. Fast, lovely,
43:54
Speaker 6: lovely lady. I've known her for a number of years.
43:55
Speaker 6: Kathy Garver. who played Sissy on the show Family Affair,
43:58
Speaker 6: and Julie McCullough. I did not realize that she was
44:02
Speaker 6: a West Virginian by choice. She chose to move here.
44:04
Speaker 6: She was on the show Sharknado and on Growing Pains.
44:08
Speaker 6: No charge permission. Just come on out and enjoy it
44:11
Speaker 6: and talk to these fine ladies. Get some selfies and whatever.
44:13
Speaker 6: 4 till 6. And it's happening Monday at Capital Market, Texas.
44:17
Speaker 6: Florida guy here, Dave. First Amendment protects the fake news
44:21
Speaker 6: media outlets from government censoring what they publish. Does not
44:24
Speaker 6: mean the president, no matter what the party, has to
44:26
Speaker 6: give every journalist unlimited access to the Oval Office. I
44:30
Speaker 6: don't think that they're asking for unlimited access to the
44:34
Speaker 6: Oval Office. I mean, I will take a little issue.
44:36
Speaker 6: With that, I don't think it's unlimited access that they're
44:39
Speaker 6: asking for. The Dave Allen Show on 580 Live is
44:41
Speaker 6: brought to you in part by the Charleston Dirty Birds
44:43
Speaker 6: Trick or Beat. 107.3 The Beat coming to Goldmark Ballpark Thursday,
44:47
Speaker 6: October 29th. Two sessions, one 6-7, the other 7-30 to 8-30.
44:51
Speaker 6: Presented by Salango Law. Now admission is free, but you
44:54
Speaker 6: must have tickets to enter. And tickets will be available
44:57
Speaker 6: at our studios at 1111 Virginia Street East in Charleston
45:00
Speaker 6: the week of October 12th. Check out DirtyBirdsBaseball.com or 1073TheBeat. com
45:05
Speaker 6: or The Beat social media if you need more information.
45:09
Speaker 6: We'll take a break. Come back after this on The
45:11
Speaker 6: Voice of Charleston WCHS.
45:15
Speaker 1: Brought to you by the Eric J. Tarr Family Businesses.
45:18
Speaker 3: Eric J.
45:19
Speaker 1: Tarr Family Businesses have been creating jobs in West Virginia
45:22
Speaker 1: since 1997.
45:24
Speaker 17: The savings are on all summer long at Walker Chevrolet
45:28
Speaker 17: in Nitro. Listen, if you're planning on dragging that old
45:31
Speaker 17: worn-out ride up and down the turnpike one more time,
45:34
Speaker 17: just don't. This is the time to upgrade and make
45:37
Speaker 17: that next trip in comfort and style. This summer, Gene
45:41
Speaker 17: and Ryan have loaded down the lot with inventory, both

48:01
Speaker 6: Some tragic stuff locally yesterday. A child was struck and
48:04
Speaker 6: killed by a vehicle in South Charleston last night. It
48:07
Speaker 6: happened around 730, as reported by Metro 911 near the
48:10
Speaker 6: McCorkle Avenue and Rock Lake Drive intersection. Tragic situation story
48:15
Speaker 6: posted at WVMetroNews.com. And information has come out now that
48:19
Speaker 6: it is believed that the young person killed was a
48:23
Speaker 6: 12-year-old Dunbar middle school student.
48:26
Speaker 1: Students.
48:26
Speaker 6: And again, we have a story posted WVMetroNews.com. Two people
48:30
Speaker 6: killed in a head-on crash of a Dunbar toll bridge yesterday.
48:33
Speaker 6: Happened around 310 yesterday afternoon, and there were actually other
48:37
Speaker 6: crashes because of that crash that did get the bridge
48:40
Speaker 6: opened back up after seven last night. Story and pics
48:42
Speaker 6: available WVMetroNews.com. A new council member in Charleston, Jessica Hudson,
48:48
Speaker 6: was sworn in as a council member in Ward 18
48:49
Speaker 6: in replacing Pam Berka, who had resigned over health concerns,
48:54
Speaker 6: or to try to get her on the show. We
48:55
Speaker 6: have a story about the replacement, though, at WCHSnetwork.com. A
48:59
Speaker 6: text says, oh, good, Trump TV, nothing like the brain-rotted MAGAs.
49:06
Speaker 6: I'm sorry, there's nothing the brain-rotted MAGAs need more than
49:08
Speaker 6: government TV channel dedicated to praising Trump. How are people
49:12
Speaker 6: still supporting Donald Trump, says a texter. Text says, Donald
49:17
Speaker 6: Trump is an embarrassing doofus. Text, the so-called leftist media
49:22
Speaker 6: is really quite centrist. They're corporate capitalists who just happen
49:26
Speaker 6: to have more accepting social stance. Look how they ran
49:29
Speaker 6: Bernie off. Look how they're tiptoeing around the DSA. They
49:32
Speaker 6: want their money just like the conservative media outlets, says
49:36
Speaker 6: a texter. And somebody Sent me a series of memes here.
49:39
Speaker 6: Appreciate that. One I read, it says, if you're still
49:42
Speaker 6: relying on CNN, MSNBC, or ABC for your news, you're
49:46
Speaker 6: not staying informed. You are being manipulated, according to a
49:50
Speaker 6: texter via meme. Well, remember, Fox News was the one
49:53
Speaker 6: that testified in court. They weren't a legitimate news source. Text,
49:57
Speaker 6: would you blindfold yourself and eat whatever someone fed you?
50:00
Speaker 3: No.
50:00
Speaker 6: Stop letting the media do it to you, says a texter. Uh,
50:07
Speaker 6: good God, just say this is a completely unjustified attack
50:11
Speaker 6: on the first amendment and freedom of the press. Uh,
50:14
Speaker 6: you and Burke Allen can't speak plainly on this.
50:16
Speaker 3: Okay.
50:17
Speaker 8: All right.
50:17
Speaker 6: It is a, it is a unjustified attack on freedom
50:22
Speaker 6: of the press. There you go. That's kind of what
50:25
Speaker 6: I thought we were saying. Text, West Virginia has the
50:29
Speaker 6: lowest job participation than all states and one of the
50:31
Speaker 6: worst education systems. And we've had the lowest job force
50:35
Speaker 6: workforce participation rate since the 1980s. Text, Dave just wanted
50:39
Speaker 6: to know where the GOP is going to have constitutional burning.
50:42
Speaker 6: I have one they can burn, says a texter. Text
50:47
Speaker 6: Julie McCullough is still active in film. She acts in
50:49
Speaker 6: projects produced by JC Film Studios, a faith-based production company,
50:53
Speaker 6: features other stars like Dean Cain and Kevin Sorbo. They
50:56
Speaker 6: filmed in Bridgeport a lot. Great exposure for West Virginia. Actually,
51:00
Speaker 6: I think I knew that because I think I've interviewed
51:01
Speaker 6: somebody from the company, not necessarily her, but I'll get
51:04
Speaker 6: to talk to her and Kathy Garver and Dream of
51:08
Speaker 6: Denver later. coming up on Monday over at Capital Market.
51:11
Speaker 6: Hope to see you there. We'll start about 4 o'clock.
51:13
Speaker 6: There's going to be a public meeting tonight about the
51:15
Speaker 6: Clean Seas Project in Bell. Now, that is set for
51:18
Speaker 6: 6 tonight at the Belltown Hall. It's located at the old,
51:21
Speaker 6: it would be, the old 84 Lumber location. That's where
51:24
Speaker 6: the plant would be or the facility. It would burn
51:28
Speaker 6: plastic feedstock to create synthetic gas, and then it would
51:34
Speaker 6: be used and then sold. The last meeting there was
51:37
Speaker 6: a packed house, so if you have questions, comments, or
51:39
Speaker 6: concerns about the meeting, it is tonight at the Belltown Hall.
51:44
Speaker 6: All right. Coming up later today, Metro News Midday 13 News.
51:47
Speaker 6: And tonight, live anchor Amanda Barron and me, powered by
51:49
Speaker 6: Salango Law. Loaded up show. Jeff Jenkins has the news.
51:52
Speaker 6: Dave Wilson wrote commentaries here. The new tourism secretary for
51:55
Speaker 6: the state of West Virginia, Kayla Kessinger. On the show today,
51:58
Speaker 6: State Senator Mike Oliverio. Chris Dickerson will talk about the
52:01
Speaker 6: latest class going into the Marshall Journalism Hall of Fame.
52:04
Speaker 6: Teresa Morris, executive director of the Alzheimer's Association and former U.S.
52:07
Speaker 6: attorney Will Thompson, all on the show tonight. Coming up today,
52:10
Speaker 6: Metro News, Midday 13 News, and tonight, live anchor Amanda Barrett,
52:13
Speaker 6: alongside me, Dave Allen, powered by Solango Law. Ryan Nicholson
52:16
Speaker 6: was our producer for this show today. Thank you so much.
52:18
Speaker 6: I will see you tomorrow. Until then, have fun. Love somebody.
