Latest / Sri Aurobindo Studies / Biological Energy Developed from Food and from Other Sources

- 0:02People are not generally consciously aware of the energy
- 0:05interchanges that take place to fuel their bodies and drive
- 0:09their life energies. They understand that they need
- 0:13to eat food as a form of fuel for their energy, and they count
- 0:17calories that are produced by various food sources.
- 0:21Clearly, the connection between matter in the form of food and
- 0:26energy in the form of life action and biochemical processes
- 0:31is recognized and accepted. We also recognize that
- 0:35Einstein's famous equation about the convertibility of matter and
- 0:39energy in physics also holds true in the field of life.
- 0:45And for most people, the entire subject of life energy comes
- 0:49down to food and various stimulants.
- 0:54Stimulants provide an artificial short term apparent energy boost
- 0:59not by bringing in new energy sources, but by prodding the
- 1:03biochemical systems to over produce compared to their
- 1:07natural status. In fact, stimulants tend to
- 1:11eventually weaken the system by using stored energy for short
- 1:15term requirements at the expense of longer term balance, Wellness
- 1:21and harmonious functioning of the body.
- 1:25Food, of course, has its limitations as an energy source.
- 1:29There may be insufficient food or it may be of poor quality
- 1:34where it may have offsetting side effects depending on its
- 1:37composition and purity. The ability to convert food into
- 1:41life energy also tends to weaken over time as various organ
- 1:46systems reduce their efficiency in action through wear and tear.
- 1:51Thus, we see the decline of the bodily systems, eventual
- 1:56weakening of the organs and the immune system, and the advent of
- 2:01disease, suffering, and eventual death.
- 2:06There are other sources of energy, and those who have
- 2:09figured out how to access and utilize them can find ways to
- 2:13extend both the length of life and the health and Wellness
- 2:17experienced during that time. Certain yogic practices, and in
- 2:22particular hatha yoga and the practices of pranayam, can
- 2:27dramatically benefit the body both short and long term.
- 2:32Some individuals have learned how to draw energy from others,
- 2:36and there are cases of individuals being drained or
- 2:39exhausted after meeting with such an individual.
- 2:43Those people tend to thrive at the expense of others, but the
- 2:47only issue here being the fact that energy sources other than
- 2:51material food actually exist. Some people are energized by any
- 2:56subject that holds their interest, by joyful or uplifting
- 3:00experiences, or through emotional interactions of a
- 3:04positive nature. This is actually part of a vital
- 3:08interchange that occurs all the time, although mostly unnoticed.
- 3:14Spiritual practitioners also frequently report the descent of
- 3:18a force coming down from above the head and filling their being
- 3:23with force, light, or energy. This represents yet another way
- 3:29that energy interchange can take place other than through the use
- 3:32of food, the mother notes quote. Some people don't know how to
- 3:38receive the forces at all. These live on the energies
- 3:42concentrated in the body, for there is some concentrated
- 3:46energy in all the cells of the body.
- 3:48They live upon that, but after some time they are drained out
- 3:53completely. If they don't know how to
- 3:55recuperate, when they have spent all the energies which were
- 3:58concentrated inside them, either they fall I'll or they never
- 4:03recuperate them. So this cannot last very long.
- 4:08It lasts the average lifetime of human beings, and yet at the end
- 4:13of a certain number of years, they are no longer able to make
- 4:17the same effort or to produce as much, or as, above all, to make
- 4:22any progress. End Quote Reference Sri
