- 0:00When we examine the question of thought forms,
- 0:04we recognize that people usually want to imply that
- 0:07a thought is able to turn into some kind of physical
- 0:10reality, purely through the power of thought. This
- 0:15however is one element of the question, but not the
- 0:18only element. Thought forms have a variety of
- 0:22mechanisms for being created and effectuated. Whenever
- 0:27we conceive of an idea, a plan, an invention, a
- 0:31creative direction, we are creating thought forms at
- 0:35the mental level, on the mental plane if you will.
- 0:39These forms, in order to be
- 0:41effectuated in the world, can act either purely on
- 0:45the mental level, can influence and create a
- 0:48force on the vital level, or can directly work on
- 0:52creating a physical form. How
- 0:55this happens is really the ultimate question. Most
- 0:59people have a constant array of thoughts, flitting
- 1:02in and out of their mind. They
- 1:05generally have very little focus or power, and tend
- 1:08not to go very far in terms of effectuation or
- 1:11any detailed manifestation. Those
- 1:15who focus on an effort of some sort, such as a
- 1:17scientific, creative, artistic, emotional, vital
- 1:23or physical activity, channel and concentrate
- 1:26specific thought forms to carry out that effort. The
- 1:31action may be developed through a process of
- 1:33externalization, a communication process,
- 1:37whether oral, written, or communicated through some
- 1:41form of visual, tactile, or olfactory, etc. Converting
- 1:48a thought form into any form of actual communication
- 1:51in the external world is one means of effectuating
- 1:55it. The great writers, composers,
- 1:59artists of the world, functioned in this manner.
- 2:03We can actually trace the
- 2:04influence of particular thought forms through
- 2:07history, when we work to identify, for instance, the
- 2:11influence of Plato, the influence of the Vedic
- 2:14Rishis, the influence of Confucius, the influence of
- 2:18Shakespeare, and the influence of Leonardo Da
- 2:22Vinci, Nicola Tesla, Albert Einstein, Shri Orobindo, or
- 2:27any other individual whose work has clearly influenced
- 2:31the development of humanity in a meaningful way.
- 2:35Another method does not involve
- 2:37external action, but rather the focus of the will
- 2:41power, or the innate power of the mind to create
- 2:44vibrations and disseminate them. The
- 2:47action of the silent will is one that many people
- 2:51have experienced through history, and people
- 2:54sometimes remark about the intensity of a certain
- 2:57person or atmosphere as that person is concentrating
- 3:01his force. Certain spiritual traditions, such
- 3:06as Tibetan Buddhism, put a strong emphasis on the
- 3:10training and development of powers of mind, such as
- 3:13through extensive and detailed visualization
- 3:16processes as part of their practice. It
- 3:20is reported that some advanced practitioners are
- 3:23able to create an actual, physically visible or
- 3:26palpable formation in this way. Tibet's
- 3:30great yogi, Milarepa, was reported to have appeared
- 3:34in a physical form and provided a last teaching
- 3:37prior to his death to various disciples in diverse
- 3:41locales, all at the same time appearing in his
- 3:46rainbow body. The use of mantras has been
- 3:50known to create intense thought forms, even when
- 3:53not verbalized, that can influence events in the
- 3:57world simply through the power of the concentrated
- 4:01thought. The entire issue of the power
- 4:05of a curse, or a blessing, on an individual revolves
- 4:09around the power of thought. There
- 4:12are instances recounted in the great scriptural texts
- 4:15of how formations were consciously created to harm
- 4:19another individual. If that individual was able to
- 4:23reject that force, it would rebound upon the center, as
- 4:28it had a power of effectuation that could not
- 4:31be denied. It should be noted that
- 4:37harnessing brain waves for an external result is now
- 4:40an accepted part of Western medical science, as there
- 4:44are advances that harness an individual's brainwaves
- 4:47to operate artificial limbs or operate a computer. As
- 4:53this science develops, it is certain to show that
- 4:56brainwaves, in and of themselves, are powers
- 4:59unseen yet real and effective in the world. A
- 5:06disciple asks, quote, how can human thought create
- 5:10forms, end quote. The mother notes, quote, in the
- 5:15mental world, human thought is constantly creating
- 5:18forms. Human thought is very creative in
- 5:21the mental world. All the time when you are
- 5:25thinking, you are creating forms, and you send them
- 5:28out in the atmosphere and they go and do their work.
- 5:32Constantly, you are surrounded by a
- 5:34heap of small formations. Naturally,
- 5:38there are people who can't even think clearly, so they
- 5:41form nothing at all except faint eddies. But
- 5:45people who think clearly are surrounded by a heap
- 5:47of little forms, which sometimes go out to do
- 5:50some work in others, and when one thinks of them
- 5:53again, they return. And we have instances of people
- 5:58who are troubled by their own formations, which return
- 6:01constantly as though to take possession of them, in
- 6:05which they can't get rid of because they don't know
- 6:08how to undo the formations they have made. There
- 6:11are more cases of this kind than one would think.
- 6:15When they have made a
- 6:16particularly strong formation for themselves, you see
- 6:19relatively, this formation is always tied up with the
- 6:23one who makes it and returns to knock at the
- 6:26brain to receive forces and ends up by truly acting as
- 6:31a necessity. It is a whole world to know
- 6:34when truly lives in ignorance. One
- 6:38has powers one doesn't know about, so naturally one
- 6:41uses them very badly. One uses them somewhat
- 6:45unconsciously and very badly. I
- 6:49don't know if you've ever heard of Madame David Neal,
- 6:51who went to Tibet and has written books on Tibet, and
- 6:56who was a Buddhist, and Buddhists, Buddhists of the
- 6:59strictest tradition, do not believe in the divine, do
- 7:03not believe in his eternity, and do not
- 7:06believe in gods who are truly divine, but they know
- 7:09admirably how to use the mental domain. And
- 7:14Buddhist discipline makes you a good master of the
- 7:17mental instrument and mental domain. We
- 7:20used to discuss many things and once she told me,
- 7:23listen, I made an experiment. She
- 7:26had studied a bit of theosophy also. She
- 7:29said, I formed a Mahatma. With
- 7:33my thought, I formed a Mahatma. And
- 7:36she knew this has been proved that at a given
- 7:39moment mental formations acquire a personal life
- 7:43independent of the fashioner, though they are
- 7:47linked with him, but independent in the sense
- 7:50that they can have their own will. And
- 7:53so she said to me, just imagine, I had made my
- 7:57Mahatma so well that he became a personality
- 8:00independent of me and constantly came to trouble
- 8:04me. He used to come, scold me for
- 8:07one thing, give me advice for another, and he wanted
- 8:11to direct my life. And I could not succeed in
- 8:15getting rid of him. It was extremely difficult. And
- 8:18I didn't know what to do. So
- 8:21I asked her how she tried. She
- 8:24told me how she said he troubles me a lot. My
- 8:26Mahatma is very troublesome. He
- 8:29does not leave me in peace. He
- 8:32disturbs my meditations. He hinders me from working.
- 8:36And yet I know quite well that
- 8:38it is I who created him and I can't get rid of
- 8:40him. Then I said, that's because you
- 8:44don't have the trick. Mother
- 8:46laughs. And I explained to her what
- 8:48she should do. And the next day, I used to
- 8:52see her almost every day in those days, you see,
- 8:55the next day she came and told me, ah, I am freed
- 8:59from my Mahatma. Laughter. She had not cut the
- 9:04connection because that's of no use. One
- 9:07must know how to reabsorb one's creation. That
- 9:11is the only way to swallow up again one's formations.
