SPEAKER_00: What happens when you take a love of food, a passion for culture, and a deep knowledge of cannabis and you toss them all into one bowl?
1:22
SPEAKER_00: You get Bite Me, the podcast that explores the intersection of food, culture, and cannabis and helps cooks make great edibles at home.
1:29
SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Margaret, a certified gangier, TCI certified cannabis educator, and I believe your kitchen is the best dispensary you'll ever have.
1:37
SPEAKER_00: Together we'll explore the stories, the science, and the sheer joy of making safe, effective, and unforgettable edibles at home.
1:44
SPEAKER_00: So preheat your oven and get ready for a great episode.
1:48
SPEAKER_00: Let's dive in.
1:50
SPEAKER_00: Well, friends, today I have something a little different for you today, a cannabis confessions.
1:55
SPEAKER_00: I did one of these a little while ago.
1:57
SPEAKER_00: This one I originally recorded for the Bite Me Cannabis Club.
2:02
SPEAKER_00: And I have had the opportunity to interview a number of the members of the club.
2:06
SPEAKER_00: But Wayne, Wayne is special.
2:09
SPEAKER_00: And Wayne has been a longtime listener of the show as well and a big supporter.
2:13
SPEAKER_00: So I'm really excited to release this episode with all of you because I think it's really great to hear the voices and perspective of regular folk who are out there in the world as cannabis consumers.
2:25
SPEAKER_00: Because if there's one thing I've learned from doing this show for six plus years, is that cannabis consumers come in all walks of life.
2:34
SPEAKER_00: So if you're just tuning in for the first time today, thank you so much for being here.
2:38
SPEAKER_00: And if you've been a longtime listener, again, I appreciate you.
2:41
SPEAKER_00: I appreciate all of you because this show wouldn't exist without the listeners of Bite Me.
2:46
SPEAKER_00: And of course, if you're interested in doing your own cannabis confessions, reach out.
2:50
SPEAKER_00: I would love to hear from you because I I love talking to people.
2:53
SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's one of the reasons why I started this show in the first place, because I've had the opportunity to interview so many incredible folks.
2:59
SPEAKER_00: So with that, my friends, give a big welcome to Wayne.
3:08
SPEAKER_00: The recording has started, and we are here today for another episode of Cannabis Confessions.
3:14
SPEAKER_00: And I am joined by longtime listener of the podcast and also member of the Bite Me Cannabis Club.
3:21
SPEAKER_00: Wayne, and I guess I just uh stole your thunder a little bit because I was my first question was going to be what's your name?
3:29
SPEAKER_00: What do you like to go by?
3:30
SPEAKER_00: But perhaps if you have any nicknames you'd like to share with us or what you'd like to go by, that would be a good time right now.
3:36
SPEAKER_01: You know, that's the funny thing about having the name Wayne.
3:40
SPEAKER_01: There's never any nicknames.
3:42
SPEAKER_00: Right.
3:42
SPEAKER_01: There's never a reshortened version.
3:44
SPEAKER_01: I mean, you know, Margaret could be considered a Maggie.
3:47
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
3:48
SPEAKER_01: Or a Maggie.
3:50
SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes.
3:51
SPEAKER_01: No, there's nothing short for Wayne.
3:53
SPEAKER_01: Or Timothy would be a Tim.
3:55
SPEAKER_00: So did you you never got called anything as a kid, or like in in high school, there was never never any kind of like a shop teacher calling me Boeno.
4:03
SPEAKER_01: Boeno.
4:04
SPEAKER_00: Oh.
4:05
SPEAKER_01: Boeno.
4:06
SPEAKER_00: I can see why you didn't keep that nickname.
4:09
SPEAKER_00: It doesn't really roll off the tongue the same way.
4:11
SPEAKER_00: It's not very uh professional in certain contexts either.
4:14
SPEAKER_01: But well, I'm not a professional kind of guy, so yeah.
4:17
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
4:17
SPEAKER_00: Well then maybe it does work, but I will not be calling you Bo Boain or Boeno.
4:21
SPEAKER_01: Boino.
4:22
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
4:23
SPEAKER_01: I haven't heard that since 1982.
4:25
SPEAKER_01: No, 81.
4:27
SPEAKER_00: Wow, that's been a minute then.
4:28
SPEAKER_00: I hope that's a good walk down memory lane, but in any case.
4:33
SPEAKER_00: Uh Wayne, where do you live generally?
4:36
SPEAKER_00: And is cannabis legal where you are?
4:39
SPEAKER_01: I live in New York State.
4:40
SPEAKER_01: Yes, cannabis is quite legal.
4:42
SPEAKER_01: And I live near the Rochester area.
4:44
SPEAKER_00: Excellent.
4:45
SPEAKER_00: So you are one of the lucky ones that gets to live in a legal jurisdiction that really uh does make cannabis easier to access, as you and I both know, being both legal jurisdictions.
4:57
SPEAKER_00: And can you share the story of your first experience with cannabis and maybe how your relationship with cannabis has evolved over time?
5:06
SPEAKER_01: Wow, you want to take the way back train, huh?
5:09
SPEAKER_01: Okay, let's go back to 1980, I believe.
5:14
SPEAKER_01: Okay.
5:15
SPEAKER_01: Maybe 1980 was the first time I smoked.
5:17
SPEAKER_00: Right.
5:18
SPEAKER_01: And it was uh yeah, still hanging out with my buddy, and uh we decided, you know, he's like, Hey, I got this stuff from my brother.
5:25
SPEAKER_01: Wanna try it?
5:26
SPEAKER_01: And it was like, sure, why not?
5:29
SPEAKER_00: And that was the first time I uh partook of the devil's lettuce, the wacky tobacky, yes, you see how many, uh, how many of those uh slang terms we can fit into this one episode.
5:42
SPEAKER_01: Okay, we can try that, yeah.
5:44
SPEAKER_00: But so you must have had a good time then.
5:47
SPEAKER_01: Like if you grass was good, man.
5:49
SPEAKER_00: The grass was good, right?
5:51
SPEAKER_00: Another one in and so you smoked the first time with a friend who got it from uh a sibling, which is yeah, he stole it from his brother.
6:01
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, not an uncommon story because uh yeah, I think the first person that did cannabis confessions actually also said that they had they snuck a little bit of weed from an aunt or uncle or something like that.
6:13
SPEAKER_01: So yes.
6:15
SPEAKER_00: Um, but how has your relationship with with cannabis evolved since the late 1900s?
6:24
SPEAKER_01: Wow.
6:26
SPEAKER_00: I know I've heard a lot of people reference uh that time period is late 1900s, and um it does definitely make me feel old too.
6:34
SPEAKER_01: But well, you know, if we go back to a little bit further back into the 70s when we used to have carnivals, you know, you throw darts at balloons and they pop, you know, and you could win things.
6:45
SPEAKER_01: One of the first things I won was a cannabis, you know, legalized marijuana poster.
6:49
SPEAKER_01: And my parents actually let us hang it up down in our basement.
6:52
SPEAKER_01: And it was like wow, it was one of those black light posters, yeah.
6:57
SPEAKER_00: Your parents were way more progressive than mine were.
6:59
SPEAKER_01: They would have oh no, they don't they were not they were just like it's the kids, let them do it.
7:04
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, whatever.
7:06
SPEAKER_00: Kids will be kids, yeah.
7:08
SPEAKER_01: They're not they're not gonna smoke it, they don't know what the heck that means, right?
7:13
SPEAKER_00: Little did they know, yeah.
7:14
SPEAKER_01: So that's going back to the 70s, so I guess that's really way back era.
7:19
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
7:20
SPEAKER_01: But before some of us were a twinkle in their parents' eyes.
7:26
SPEAKER_00: But has like how has your relationship with cannabis evolved over time?
7:30
SPEAKER_01: Over time.
7:31
SPEAKER_01: Um I was always worried that I because I had jobs where they're gonna drug test me.
7:37
SPEAKER_01: Right.
7:37
SPEAKER_01: So I didn't usually partake in it.
7:40
SPEAKER_01: Um once in a great while I would, you know, just a here and there spot in it.
7:44
SPEAKER_01: But then when I'm gonna, you know, New York State decided to go legal, I said, let's re-embrace this because I liked it before.
7:51
SPEAKER_01: Let's bring it back into my life.
7:53
unknown: Right.
7:54
SPEAKER_01: I use it a lot now for my you know, microdosing to help for joint pains and swelling and things of that nature.
8:00
SPEAKER_00: Right.
8:01
SPEAKER_00: So you went from were you chronic back in the day, like when you were a kid?
8:05
SPEAKER_01: I was a kid back in high school, yeah.
8:07
SPEAKER_01: I was pretty yeah, yeah.
8:10
SPEAKER_00: Well, you and me both, so I can't really can't say anything about that.
8:14
SPEAKER_01: But then toward my senior year, I I had to give it up because I worked full time in my senior year.
8:22
SPEAKER_00: Right.
8:22
SPEAKER_00: And you weren't allowed to use cannabis, or like did they drug test?
8:25
SPEAKER_01: No, I didn't drug test, but he was very military.
8:29
SPEAKER_01: Right.
8:30
SPEAKER_01: And he could tell, and I was like, Yeah, better not do this.
8:34
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, keep the job.
8:36
SPEAKER_00: Right.
8:36
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I guess that makes sense.
8:38
SPEAKER_00: I mean, personally, I've had like cannabis has been a part of my life for most of my my adult and pre-adult life, teenage years, I guess, but it my cannabis usage has ebbed and flowed over the years for sure.
8:51
SPEAKER_00: So uh I can appreciate that, you know.
8:54
SPEAKER_00: Sometimes life just uh just does its thing.
8:58
SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
9:00
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the years preceding 19, yeah, the pre years preceding 1982, like 80, 81.
9:05
SPEAKER_01: I was pretty much a stoner, but uh and then 82.
9:09
SPEAKER_01: Well, late 81, early 82, I had to give it up because like I said, I was on a work co-op program.
9:14
SPEAKER_01: I would go to school half a day and then I would spend the rest other half of the day working.
9:18
SPEAKER_00: Right.
9:19
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
9:19
SPEAKER_01: Maybe you know, making money.
9:22
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
9:22
SPEAKER_00: So now it's like you incorporate it pretty well into your daily routine.
9:26
SPEAKER_01: Yes, I do.
9:27
SPEAKER_01: I've I've learned, you know, through uh your podcast and through reading of things.
9:32
SPEAKER_01: I learned how to, you know, kind of minimize the dosages.
9:35
SPEAKER_01: I know what is my tolerance levels before it starts to affect me in uh in ways that you wouldn't want to be found working.
9:47
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
9:48
SPEAKER_00: Well, I like the idea of microdosing too, because it's that also the idea of like getting that minimum effective dose.
9:54
SPEAKER_00: Like you don't need massive doses to really benefit from the usage of cannabis.
9:58
SPEAKER_01: Right.
9:59
SPEAKER_00: And sometimes I feel like in certain circles in the cannabis world, you know, it's um a lot of heavy cannabis use, which works for some people, but for a lot of people, uh, it's really not necessary.
10:10
SPEAKER_00: You're spending a lot of money and like just blasting your body with a ton of cannabinoids that you probably don't need to, like that minimum effective dose, if you can find that, that's uh really smart.
10:20
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
10:21
SPEAKER_01: That's what I try, you know, and then and occasionally, you know, if you want to step it up a little bit, let's say you're gonna have a want to have a good better time.
10:27
SPEAKER_01: I'm not really much of a drinker.
10:29
SPEAKER_01: Matter of fact, the other night I went out to the racetrack with my my wife and my brother and sister-in-law, or my sister and brother-in-law, and I got a drink, and I thought, oh, I'll just have I'll just have a drink.
10:42
SPEAKER_01: And I took two sips.
10:43
SPEAKER_01: I'm like, not feeling like alcohol.
10:46
SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
10:47
SPEAKER_01: I just set it aside and just but you know, a couple of cookies would have been better, right?
10:52
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I make small cookies.
10:54
SPEAKER_01: I'm not one of these guys that makes the big six-inch cookie, and then you gotta try to cut it up into pieces.
11:00
SPEAKER_01: I just go right ahead and make the little teeny cookies, a little eight-ounce cookie, you know, or not even eight ounce, eight grams.
11:05
SPEAKER_01: The crew, the whole cookies, eight grams.
11:07
SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's a small, it's about the size of a quarter, right?
11:10
SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
11:11
SPEAKER_00: So they're they are like literally really small.
11:13
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I make you know, and I'll make what I make uh 72 the other day in a single batch.
11:19
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I gave away 54 of them.
11:22
SPEAKER_00: Right.
11:23
SPEAKER_01: My wife's girlfriend, she's having problems, and I was like, Yeah, give her a pick of these.
11:28
SPEAKER_00: Well, the nice thing about cookies too is you can take them to a place like the racetrack if you want and consume that instead.
11:34
SPEAKER_00: It is really a shame that you know, in those venues, that's pretty much the only thing available, even though, like, I mean, in Canada, it's been legal for six years, and still you can't buy cannabis beverages or any kind of cannabis products at a place like that.
11:49
SPEAKER_00: And that's a shame.
11:51
SPEAKER_01: We have um we have some dispensaries that have just opened up along, you know, not too far from me.
11:56
SPEAKER_01: I haven't been into them yet.
11:57
SPEAKER_01: I've never ever been in a dispensary.
12:00
SPEAKER_01: Oh, really?
12:01
SPEAKER_01: Never, yeah.
12:01
SPEAKER_00: Oh, cannabis confessions.
12:03
SPEAKER_00: Here we go.
12:05
SPEAKER_01: Sorry, never been in a dispensary, grow my own.
12:08
SPEAKER_00: Right, yeah.
12:09
SPEAKER_00: Are you curious about going into them?
12:11
SPEAKER_00: Like is it just you just haven't gotten around to it yet?
12:13
SPEAKER_01: I just really haven't gotten I haven't gotten around to it because I really haven't felt the need to.
12:19
SPEAKER_00: Right.
12:19
SPEAKER_01: But uh, you know, it I I am gonna eventually go in there and see what kind of uh other things they sell besides just weed if they sell cannabis beverages and things like that.
12:30
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they should.
12:31
SPEAKER_00: I mean, do they they have like that's legal in New York, like cannabis beverages and all that stuff?
12:37
SPEAKER_01: Um, I haven't paid too much attention to it, but um far as I know it is.
12:41
SPEAKER_00: Right.
12:42
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
12:42
SPEAKER_00: The beverages are a pretty interesting, a pretty interesting product in my opinion, just because they they sort of replace that alcoholic beverage when you're out doing things socially.
12:53
SPEAKER_00: Because I I know sometimes people get a little weird when you're like, oh, I'm not drinking tonight or whatever.
12:57
SPEAKER_00: And they're like, Oh, come on, just have one, it'll be fine.
13:01
SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, Well, if I have one drink, I'm flirting with a hangover.
13:06
SPEAKER_01: I understand it.
13:07
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it would be nice to like, you know, instead have that cannabis beverage.
13:11
SPEAKER_00: So I think you should check them out.
13:12
SPEAKER_00: That is my recommendation.
13:14
SPEAKER_00: But I also don't go to dispensaries a whole ton myself either, but it is kind of a treat, and it's nice when you live in a legal place, you have you do have the access if you want that uh and they just built one right really close to my daughter's uh tattoo shop studio.
13:29
SPEAKER_00: Right.
13:29
SPEAKER_00: Oh, nice, nice.
13:31
SPEAKER_00: So you really don't have any excuse now, so you're gonna have to go check one out and report back.
13:35
SPEAKER_00: But now, do you have a favorite method of consumption?
13:42
SPEAKER_01: Mainly cookies.
13:43
SPEAKER_00: Okay, so edibles is your thing, yes, it is.
13:46
SPEAKER_01: Okay, occasionally you'll catch me with uh you know smoking a little, you know, right, but not often.
13:55
SPEAKER_01: If I do, it's a one-hitter, then usually I'll pack a one-hitter and take one of those and do a sneakotope.
14:01
SPEAKER_01: Right back to the 70s.
14:02
SPEAKER_01: So that usually sneaketokes, not the one-hitters.
14:05
SPEAKER_00: Right, yeah.
14:06
SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, as an edibles fan, I can appreciate that too.
14:10
SPEAKER_00: So uh you're in the right spot when it comes to biting me in the show about edibles.
14:14
SPEAKER_00: It's no wonder that you found me if you like edibles that much.
14:18
SPEAKER_00: Um has cannabis helped you manage any challenges in your life?
14:23
SPEAKER_01: A lot of shoulder pain and hip pain.
14:25
SPEAKER_00: Okay, so some physical pain.
14:27
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's actually I don't have much pain at all now.
14:31
SPEAKER_01: Also, is it a little better than when I uh if I'll take and you know a little bit of THC just before I do a workout into gym and stuff, or you know, I have a home gym, I don't work out at a box gym.
14:45
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so I I usually take and you know try to give myself a little bit if I can.
14:51
SPEAKER_00: Is this like the microdosing again?
14:53
SPEAKER_00: Like you're just doing micro doses to me.
14:55
SPEAKER_01: I'll have a cookie before you know an hour before I start to work out, and yeah, then I'll go work out, and it seems to help me with focus.
15:02
SPEAKER_00: Right.
15:05
SPEAKER_01: I think my wife and probably children would tell you I have a bit of ADD.
15:09
SPEAKER_00: Right.
15:10
SPEAKER_01: This kind of helps you focus, right?
15:12
SPEAKER_01: It does.
15:13
SPEAKER_01: I mean, most people will tell you they'll get the stoner will get focused on something like his hand for an hour.
15:20
SPEAKER_01: Wow, man, that's cool.
15:22
SPEAKER_01: Right.
15:23
SPEAKER_01: Think about how them fingers work.
15:26
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
15:26
SPEAKER_00: So do you ever combine your tape, like your cookies?
15:29
SPEAKER_00: Like, do you do a ratio or are they usually just THC?
15:33
SPEAKER_01: Well, I don't have a really accurate way to measure because I don't right.
15:38
SPEAKER_01: I'm measuring stuff that I've grown, and my stuff has been crossbred with who knows what.
15:43
SPEAKER_01: So because I have my own seeds.
15:45
SPEAKER_01: That's why I call it my ditch weed.
15:47
SPEAKER_00: Okay, right, right.
15:49
SPEAKER_00: So you're not you're not really sure if there's a ratio or not.
15:52
SPEAKER_01: No, I don't know what the ratio would be, but I do check to see if I do have, you know, if what if it's either C D B or THC, because I use my T check to check it to see what I'm looking at.
16:03
SPEAKER_00: Right.
16:03
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
16:04
SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, uh cannabis and exercise do pair well, very well together, as long as in my experience, you don't take too much.
16:13
SPEAKER_00: If I take too much, then uh then you want to sit down.
16:15
SPEAKER_00: Then I want to lie down.
16:16
SPEAKER_00: I'm usually lying down on my workout mat instead of actually like exercising.
16:20
SPEAKER_00: So, you know, the microdosing is I forget what they call that pose.
16:24
SPEAKER_00: I think they call that corpse pose, at least it's true.
16:27
SPEAKER_01: Yes, that's what they call it.
16:28
SPEAKER_00: And uh that's exactly what it looks like.
16:31
SPEAKER_00: So yeah, but the microdoses work really well.
16:34
SPEAKER_00: And I mean, I use cannabis for low back pain because you know I'm a certain of a certain age and it feels like everybody over a certain age has low back pain or shoulder pain or whatever, like there's always something.
16:46
SPEAKER_01: Well, Margaret, you need to start working on your core muscles.
16:49
SPEAKER_00: Oh, I've been told that before.
16:50
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, pull that tight and make that spine feel really good.
16:54
SPEAKER_00: I wish that was the problem, but that is not the issue.
16:57
SPEAKER_00: It's uh something else altogether.
16:59
SPEAKER_00: But the topicals also work really well.
17:02
SPEAKER_00: Do you use topicals at all?
17:04
SPEAKER_01: Uh occasionally I do.
17:05
SPEAKER_01: I use like I'll I'll take some of my uh my oils and I'll just use them as the topical.
17:12
SPEAKER_00: Right.
17:12
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
17:13
SPEAKER_01: Like just my MCT that's been introduced.
17:16
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I see.
17:17
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I it's funny because I always think about using like I make a lot of topicals, and at the end of the day, you could just use MCT oil, coconut oil, olive oil, like right on whatever's aching.
17:29
SPEAKER_00: Uh, and it's kind of the same thing, you don't have to get too fancy, but sometimes I like to get fancy, so I make them into other things.
17:35
SPEAKER_01: But yeah, you can use dry skin too.
17:37
SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes, and in the cold climates, that's really important.
17:42
SPEAKER_01: Wouldn't know about that.
17:45
SPEAKER_01: Not in Canada, right?
17:47
SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, well, okay.
17:49
SPEAKER_00: I've yeah, uh it's the air is so dry here right now, it's brutal.
17:53
SPEAKER_00: But as I'm itching my arm because I'm my skin's too dry, probably, but it's hard to hard to stay on top of.
17:59
SPEAKER_00: I am curious though, because you have been like a cannabis consumer for well, I guess more recently, but also throughout your life.
18:08
SPEAKER_00: Is there is there a cannabis myth or misconception that you would like to set the record straight on based on your own experience?
18:17
SPEAKER_01: Yes, donors don't all walk around going, uh yeah, that's very true.
18:24
SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of high-functioning people out there that can consume cannabis.
18:28
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, not everybody becomes brain dead, right?
18:31
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh, I would totally agree with that.
18:34
SPEAKER_01: I cannot stand that my because my brother always teases me about it.
18:38
SPEAKER_01: He goes, My brother, the stoner.
18:40
SPEAKER_00: Oh, really?
18:41
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, does he not consume cannabis then?
18:44
SPEAKER_00: No, no, you can't convince me, eh?
18:47
SPEAKER_00: Is he?
18:48
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, really?
18:49
SPEAKER_00: What what is his what is the source of his fear?
18:52
SPEAKER_01: I have no idea.
18:53
SPEAKER_00: No, okay.
18:55
SPEAKER_01: I just said he goes, No, no, don't give me that.
18:58
SPEAKER_01: Or he'll be green, he'll snag a cookie out of the cookie jar, he'll get halfway through it.
19:02
SPEAKER_01: He goes, This isn't one of those cookies, is it?
19:04
SPEAKER_01: I'm like, no, no, it's not green, it's not been decorated green, right?
19:09
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I also and people ask me that all the time too, like, oh, it's unfused, is it?
19:14
SPEAKER_00: And sometimes I have to like check myself because it it I find it a little annoying sometimes, only because as a responsible cannabis user, I would never let somebody consume something without knowing that there's weed in it.
19:26
SPEAKER_00: Like that would just be irresponsible.
19:28
SPEAKER_00: So the assumption that I would dose them without telling them is kind of like, come on, creat, sister, preach.
19:35
SPEAKER_00: Like, what do you who do you think?
19:36
SPEAKER_00: Who do you think I am?
19:37
SPEAKER_00: What kind of person do you think I am?
19:38
SPEAKER_01: But yeah, you're not an 18-year-old kid.
19:41
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
19:42
SPEAKER_00: I'm a responsible adult and I don't want to cause anybody any harm.
19:45
SPEAKER_00: So of course I'm gonna let you know.
19:48
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it's funny though, because my sister doesn't consume cannabis either.
19:53
SPEAKER_00: And she did, I remember we smoked once together like way back in the day, and I she didn't enjoy it basically, and that kept her from it her entire life, and she's coming around a little bit now to the thought of experimenting with like low-dose edibles or low-dose beverages.
20:11
SPEAKER_00: Um, but we haven't gotten there yet, so maybe one day.
20:15
SPEAKER_00: No pressure though.
20:16
SPEAKER_01: Teach her the rule of three, which is to try things three times.
20:21
SPEAKER_01: The first time you may not like it, right?
20:24
SPEAKER_01: Second time you may like it, the third time you will probably like it a lot more.
20:29
SPEAKER_00: Right.
20:29
SPEAKER_00: The first time you're scared, the second time you're unsure, and the third time it's like, hey, well, we got number one under the belt, and uh, I mean, it was like I said, a long time ago.
20:40
SPEAKER_00: And I did I know anything about weed or anything back then?
20:44
SPEAKER_00: Absolutely not.
20:45
SPEAKER_00: Did any of us I was probably not the best person to be, but I mean that's like what happened with a lot of people, right?
20:50
SPEAKER_00: Like you somebody's just like, Hey, I got this stuff.
20:53
SPEAKER_00: Do you want to try it?
20:53
SPEAKER_00: And that's how it kind of works out.
20:55
SPEAKER_01: But yeah, like back in the day, I mean, we got our weed in a bale, right?
21:00
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
21:01
SPEAKER_01: You know, it came floating in, you know, somebody broke it up and it was full of twigs and sticks and right, yeah.
21:07
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it wasn't much flour in there, but occasionally you find it and be like, Oh, I got.
21:11
SPEAKER_00: Got a flower in the bag, right?
21:13
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
21:14
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I definitely feel like I'm in a better place now to guide my my sister in a more positive experience with what I know now versus what I knew then.
21:23
SPEAKER_00: And probably the same for your brother if he ever changed his mind.
21:26
SPEAKER_01: But he won't.
21:28
SPEAKER_01: He's my older brother.
21:29
SPEAKER_01: He ain't gonna change his mind.
21:30
SPEAKER_00: Right.
21:31
SPEAKER_00: Oh well.
21:31
SPEAKER_00: I guess he's got to put up with the the lazy stoner stereotype that he keeps trying to push on to.
21:37
SPEAKER_00: But I know per from I know from knowing you that you're the furthest thing from a lazy stoner.
21:42
SPEAKER_00: And I agree with you that that stone that stereotype really needs to die because uh it's just not true.
21:50
SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's always exceptions, of course, there is a lazy stoner out there because they're just a lazy person.
21:55
SPEAKER_00: Like that's that's exactly that's just what it is.
21:59
SPEAKER_00: But I have met so many incredible people in the cannabis industry that are doing really cool things, and you don't you can't accomplish those things if you're lazy, so right.
22:10
SPEAKER_01: And look at Chee Chin Chong.
22:11
SPEAKER_01: If they were really as lazy as they make their show out their themselves out to be in the shows, I mean they wouldn't have the millions that they do.
22:19
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's a great example.
22:22
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, all I mean they got the gummy line going now and all that stuff.
22:27
SPEAKER_01: It's like, holy cow, these guys are making money hand over fist, right?
22:31
SPEAKER_01: Still just playing the stupid lazy stoner.
22:33
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they did play up that quite a bit back in the day, but they were like you said, anything but and they've been working ever since then, like and like you said, they don't they don't achieve that kind of success without hard work.
22:46
SPEAKER_01: No, and look at Snoop Dogg, yeah, another great example too.
22:50
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he makes a fortune.
22:52
SPEAKER_01: Um, we got Mike Tyson.
22:54
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's he's into the business and he's making a fortune.
22:58
SPEAKER_01: There's tons of people that are stoners that make money, right?
23:03
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I like that you mentioned Snoop Dogg too, because uh I do I like a lot of the stuff that he's doing.
23:08
SPEAKER_00: Partnering up with Martha Stewart was probably a stroke of genius, even though they're not really doing cannabis content together, but just I don't know, just that kind of partnership is so unusual that it makes it really fun.
23:20
SPEAKER_01: My yeah, yeah, even my wife who's and doesn't partake in anything cannabis, she loves Snoop Dogg.
23:26
SPEAKER_01: She's like, he's my favorite, right?
23:29
SPEAKER_01: I love seeing him on TV.
23:31
SPEAKER_01: He reminds me so much of my cousin or my nephew.
23:34
SPEAKER_00: I'm like right.
23:36
SPEAKER_00: Really?
23:37
SPEAKER_00: That's interesting.
23:38
SPEAKER_00: But now, for yourself, does cannabis play like a big role?
23:42
SPEAKER_00: I mean, you've mentioned sort of personal wellness through working out, but does cannabis play a role in like your creativity or social connections?
23:50
SPEAKER_01: Um none of the people I hang out with do cannabis.
23:56
SPEAKER_00: None of them do the pot.
23:58
SPEAKER_01: I'm the only stoner, I guess.
24:02
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
24:03
SPEAKER_00: So does that mean that you don't do tend to not like do it around them because of that?
24:08
SPEAKER_01: Oh, I'll eat a cookie before I go out and see a like I have a friend who does has a band.
24:13
SPEAKER_00: Right.
24:14
SPEAKER_01: Probably's got several bands, but anyways, he's in a band, and I'll get invited out to these functions to go see and play in a bar, and I'll make sure I have a cookie or two before I go out, and then you know, I'll hang out and watch him play and do his stuff and things.
24:29
SPEAKER_01: He knows, he just he just accepts it and he's like, Right, why isn't Wayne have a drink?
24:33
SPEAKER_01: Because Wayne doesn't drink.
24:35
SPEAKER_00: Right, right.
24:36
SPEAKER_00: That's interesting because I also tend to be one of the few people in my friend circle that uses cannabis as well.
24:43
SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure how that happened, but here I am.
24:49
SPEAKER_01: Everybody needs the lazy stoner in their group, you know.
24:54
SPEAKER_00: Except I'm killing that stereotype.
24:57
SPEAKER_00: So I I don't uh I'm not gonna arrest on that.
24:59
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I mean I'm I'm self-employed, I have my own business.
25:03
SPEAKER_01: I really don't think I'm that lazy.
25:05
SPEAKER_00: No, no, I know I absolutely know that you're not, but it's just interesting that like sometimes I wish I had friends that were more into it, and I know that they're curious, they have some curiosity about it and stuff, but I don't have any friends that are like regular users that I that I know of, and I kind of wish I do sometimes.
25:25
SPEAKER_01: I don't have family that does it either, and yeah, neither do I.
25:28
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so we're kind of like in the same boat, it's like one per household, maybe.
25:33
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
25:35
SPEAKER_00: But I wonder, yeah, I guess it is what it is.
25:37
SPEAKER_01: So I'll just I shouldn't say I don't have uh my son, uh my son my uh my eldest son, he does partake in cannabis.
25:47
SPEAKER_01: But uh as a matter of fact, the when the first person to get me some wheat, I asked him, I said, Can you go now that New York has gone legal, can you go to your your supplier and bring me back a couple of different ones?
25:58
SPEAKER_01: I want to try a couple of different flavors and see how they are.
26:01
SPEAKER_00: Oh, really?
26:02
SPEAKER_01: I can't tell the difference between flavors.
26:04
SPEAKER_00: Right.
26:05
SPEAKER_01: I can't tell the flavor profiles, but you know.
26:08
SPEAKER_01: How are you how are you consuming it when you're well back then when it first started, it was smoking them out of a bong or yeah, bong in a bowl, whatever thing like that.
26:16
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, trying it that way, but um, and then you got me into the dynavap.
26:21
SPEAKER_00: Yep.
26:22
SPEAKER_01: Um, I still can't taste the much of a difference between them at all.
26:26
SPEAKER_01: The dynavape is very much easier on the lungs than a bowl.
26:32
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because you're vaporizing it basically.
26:35
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, because I personally found that kind of the same.
26:38
SPEAKER_00: Like I never really got super into bong smoking, but smoking joints.
26:43
SPEAKER_00: I I mean, I can pick out some of the flavors, but I find that the dry herb vaporizer is really where that stuff shines.
26:51
SPEAKER_00: If you're chasing terps, um, that's what I find.
26:55
SPEAKER_00: And the first time I tried the dynamap, I was kind of blown away because I was just like, this is what everybody's talking about.
27:00
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
27:01
SPEAKER_01: Well, speaking of chasing turps now, when I'm making my edibles, yeah, and I go into decarb, one of the things I like to do is I don't like mine to get baked off.
27:11
SPEAKER_01: Because when you've taken put all your weed out on a sheet of cookie sheet and then put it in the oven, you're burning off a lot of the terps and the different flavor profiles.
27:20
SPEAKER_01: So, what I take is I make sure I put mine in the jar and I seal that jar and then make sure when I cook after I'm done cooking it in the jar, I'll bring it out and let it cool in the jar.
27:29
SPEAKER_01: That way they all have a chance to reconstitute on top of those leaves.
27:33
SPEAKER_01: Right.
27:34
SPEAKER_01: Then I can take and you know, if I'm gonna make butter or whatever, I can then take and I'm gonna have all of those flavor profiles from the weed, and I'm gonna put, you know, then I don't believe it's just the THC that helps or the CBD that helps with the joint pains and stuff.
27:50
SPEAKER_01: It's all the hot little cannabinoids that are you find in the chirps and everything else.
27:57
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the on-powered effect.
27:58
SPEAKER_01: Yes, I like to have a full profile of that plant in my cooking.
28:03
SPEAKER_00: Right, right.
28:05
SPEAKER_00: That actually brings me perfectly to my next question, which is what was your first attempt at edibles like?
28:12
SPEAKER_01: Like oh my first attempt, okay.
28:15
SPEAKER_01: We're going back to the 80s again.
28:18
SPEAKER_00: Oh, you tried them way back then, because I don't think I tried making edibles until like I mean 10 years ago.
28:24
SPEAKER_00: I had never tried edibles at all until yeah, yeah.
28:30
SPEAKER_01: Well, I grew up in a little podunk town, you know, it's a little farming community, so we didn't have there was no internet.
28:37
SPEAKER_01: Uh there was no there wasn't a lot of magazines or pot shops or anything like that.
28:43
SPEAKER_01: So, you know, I didn't have a lot to go on.
28:46
SPEAKER_01: You didn't go to the school library to look up how to do edibles, right?
28:52
SPEAKER_01: Or how what to do with cannabis, it just wasn't in the school library, right?
28:56
SPEAKER_00: No, no books on making edibles in the school library.
29:00
SPEAKER_00: Outrageous.
29:01
SPEAKER_01: No, you know, you couldn't go down to the uh home ec teacher and ask her either.
29:05
SPEAKER_01: So my first attempt was I do took and I bought some weed and I took and I ground it all up into a fine, you know, to a put a pretty fine powder as best I could, and I mixed it into uh brownie batter, and that was my very first one pot brownies.
29:23
SPEAKER_00: So you didn't decarb it, you didn't infuse it, you just threw it right in the batter.
29:27
SPEAKER_00: How did that taste?
29:29
SPEAKER_01: Woody.
29:30
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was tasting pretty green, I bet.
29:33
SPEAKER_00: Did you get high from it?
29:35
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we did get a little high.
29:37
SPEAKER_01: It wasn't like we were expecting, you know.
29:39
SPEAKER_01: It was like, oh, you know, I could have got more use out of that weed if we just smoked it.
29:44
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you would have for sure, because you skipped all the uh you skipped a lot of the important parts.
29:50
SPEAKER_01: Like I said, yeah, didn't you have the knowledge?
29:53
SPEAKER_00: Well, honestly, I've I've talked to a lot of people who did uh do you remember, did you ever do firecrackers?
30:00
SPEAKER_00: That was basically they would like grind up weed and put them on a cracker with peanut butter and then nuke them in the microwave.
30:07
SPEAKER_00: And I think you know, nuking it would decarb the weed a little bit, but I I also heard they tasted pretty gross.
30:13
SPEAKER_00: But a lot of people did that back in the day, apparently, too.
30:16
SPEAKER_00: So it's kind of a similar thing.
30:18
SPEAKER_00: People just didn't know.
30:19
SPEAKER_00: Like, I mean, we do have the luxury of an abundance of information now.
30:22
SPEAKER_00: So those, you know, people just didn't know back then.
30:26
SPEAKER_00: Because you're right.
30:27
SPEAKER_00: I remember some of the books that I had on the subject of cannabis, they were few and far between, and now I've got like a shelf full of cannabis cookbooks, which didn't exist back then.
30:39
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's always a hard thing, too.
30:42
SPEAKER_01: Being the only one in the house that consumes, and people keep giving you cannabis cookbooks.
30:47
SPEAKER_01: It's like oh, I'd love to make these meals, but who's gonna eat them?
30:53
SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, you could infuse them with CBD.
30:56
SPEAKER_00: I do that sometimes, or you could just make the food and eat it yourself, which isn't very communal, but uh you could do that.
31:07
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I could go make microwave meals and put them in the freezer.
31:11
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
31:13
SPEAKER_00: I mean, I I do understand what you mean though, because I have several cookbooks.
31:17
SPEAKER_00: I just got a new one actually that I really enjoy, and there's so many savory recipes in it.
31:22
SPEAKER_00: Oh, but like again, I'm the I also the only one that consumes in my household, so it's kind of hard to like make a meal that you're gonna get blasted on and then be like, Well, why don't you make it C B D, Margaret?
31:37
SPEAKER_00: I do sometimes, but I need to get some more C BD weed because I have run out there.
31:42
SPEAKER_01: We go.
31:44
SPEAKER_01: I don't grow C BD weed.
31:45
SPEAKER_00: So yeah, yeah, I don't either.
31:48
SPEAKER_01: I I get it but that's funny, you can buy that online.
31:51
SPEAKER_01: So I have bought that before.
31:53
SPEAKER_01: CBG.
31:54
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, CBG seems to be a pretty, I shouldn't say a hot new cannabinoid, it's been around for a long time, but a lot more people seem to be talking about it and the positive effects from it.
32:03
SPEAKER_00: So I'm kind of curious to experiment with that once more, too.
32:06
SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I mean, the lucky thing is if you don't grow CBD weed specifically for something, you can go out and find it, which is why legalization or some kind of decriminalization should be for everybody so that we all have access.
32:18
SPEAKER_00: But a lot of people don't agree with me, unfortunately.
32:22
SPEAKER_00: So so here we are.
32:24
SPEAKER_01: Um I was thinking I'd like to try to find some of the K weed.
32:28
SPEAKER_00: The K weed.
32:29
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the what is it, THC K or T T C D B K or something?
32:33
SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
32:34
SPEAKER_00: I don't know that one.
32:35
SPEAKER_01: It's a dietary one.
32:37
SPEAKER_00: Oh, THCV.
32:39
SPEAKER_01: Is it V?
32:40
SPEAKER_01: I thought it was K.
32:41
SPEAKER_00: No, no, the THCV.
32:43
SPEAKER_00: I've heard people talking about that too.
32:45
SPEAKER_00: I haven't been able like, and not just because they say it's an appetite suppressant, but a lot of people have reported that it's uh really energetic, but not like a not like a cerebral high, because sometimes those energetic cultivars can also make you a little a little paranoid sometimes.
33:03
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I've given salar diesel for that.
33:06
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and but the THCV is supposedly an appetite suppressant, but also give you some energy.
33:12
SPEAKER_00: And I'm very curious about it.
33:14
SPEAKER_00: I would like to try that.
33:16
SPEAKER_00: Right?
33:17
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it would be great workout weed.
33:19
SPEAKER_00: So you don't eat the snacks afterwards and then you get a good workout because you have that like boost of energy.
33:24
SPEAKER_00: But I haven't really found it like plentiful in the market yet here where I am.
33:30
SPEAKER_00: So you'll have to look at your that's another reason for you to go check out your local dispensary, yeah, and check out the seed shops too.
33:37
SPEAKER_01: Maybe I can grow it.
33:39
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's a that's a good point.
33:41
SPEAKER_01: It's ridiculous the price they get for seeds, though.
33:44
SPEAKER_00: I know, I know.
33:46
SPEAKER_01: Oh, ten dollars a seed.
33:47
SPEAKER_01: Say what?
33:48
SPEAKER_00: I know, and then you're hoping that it works out, like will it germinate?
33:52
SPEAKER_00: I mean, usually they're pretty good, but yeah, there's a lot of steps between that.
33:57
SPEAKER_01: Sometimes I have a problem with them.
33:59
SPEAKER_01: You know, you do the little tissue paper in the water, you get it to sprout, and it's got that little one-inch tube, and then you put it in the soil gently and everything, and then it gets about half an inch up in the ground out of the ground, and then dies on me.
34:11
SPEAKER_01: Like, really?
34:13
SPEAKER_00: I know I'm doing that right now.
34:14
SPEAKER_00: I have uh six little seedlings, and four of them have popped up out of the soil, and they're just still really tiny, but they're a long way off from being viable.
34:25
SPEAKER_00: So we'll see.
34:26
SPEAKER_00: I didn't buy those seeds though, those ones were gifted to me.
34:29
SPEAKER_00: So, because yeah, seeds do get really expensive.
34:32
SPEAKER_00: But THCV, something worth checking out for anybody listening.
34:36
SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna check that out and the CBG.
34:38
SPEAKER_00: You've given me some homework today, Wayne.
34:40
SPEAKER_00: So that's wonderful.
34:42
SPEAKER_00: And as we wrap up tonight, I am curious what would surprise people about you.
34:51
SPEAKER_01: Um, most people don't think I don't know.
34:54
SPEAKER_01: I looked, I look very straight laced.
34:56
SPEAKER_01: Most people don't think I even smoke.
34:58
SPEAKER_01: They look at me like you you do marijuana.
35:02
SPEAKER_00: You do the pot.
35:03
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
35:04
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
35:05
SPEAKER_01: I smoke grass, man.
35:07
SPEAKER_00: Right.
35:08
SPEAKER_00: A little the jazz cabbage.
35:10
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, jazz cabbage.
35:12
SPEAKER_00: Well, you know, I think sometimes unless you're wearing like I don't know.
35:17
SPEAKER_00: Oh, I do the drug rug.
35:19
SPEAKER_00: You know what those sweaters are?
35:21
SPEAKER_01: I have one.
35:22
SPEAKER_00: I used to have one too.
35:23
SPEAKER_00: I don't know what happened to it, but yes, I can look boho.
35:26
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but if you're not dressing l like the stereotype, then you know, people, especially of a certain age, don't look like they should be cannabis consumers.
35:36
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
35:36
SPEAKER_01: So then I still have the old cannabis or arm wraps.
35:42
