- 0:00Galatians chapter 2. Let us pray.
- 0:08We thank you, Lord, for today. We thank you, God, for all of
- 0:14the many blessings that you've already poured out on us today.
- 0:18Thank you for life, thank you for breath, thank you God for a
- 0:22sound mind, and thank you God for hands and feet and eyes,
- 0:28eyes and ears. Thank you God You've made all of
- 0:33our organs work together inside of our body that we're not even
- 0:36aware of. How that all is intricately
- 0:39interwoven, Father, and it is a miracle.
- 0:43And it is worth you being completely praised over.
- 0:48And you do it for sinners and Saints alike.
- 0:52You do it for the just and the unjust alike.
- 0:54You make it rain on the same fields of those who curse your
- 0:59holy name and those who bless your holy name.
- 1:02And so God, you are a wonder working God.
- 1:06You are far and exceedingly greater than any of the combined
- 1:12knowledge of all humanity put together.
- 1:15You are such a greater mind than any kind of computer program
- 1:21that we could put together. Father, you are more powerful
- 1:25than anything that is in this world, and greater is he who is
- 1:29living in us than he who is in this world.
- 1:31And so, God, we stand on the basis of the blood of Jesus
- 1:35Christ covering us. We stand on the cornerstone, the
- 1:39chief cornerstone. We build our lives upon Christ
- 1:43Jesus. We know that we will inherit
- 1:46eternal life. We know that we have been marked
- 1:49by the Holy Spirit as a down payment in the same resurrection
- 1:54power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead lives inside of
- 1:58us. And where you are, we will be,
- 2:01we will be caught up to be with you in the clouds.
- 2:04And there we will be with you forever more.
- 2:06And so God, we want to rule and reign with you.
- 2:09We want to be the high priest God of our homes.
- 2:12We want to see you lifted up high over all government, over
- 2:17all entities, over all principalities.
- 2:21Father, we tear down any strongholds of opposition in the
- 2:25name of Jesus Christ. Lord, I pray that you will give
- 2:31us a supernatural zeal for your house.
- 2:34Lord, I pray that we'll consecrate this temple.
- 2:37Lord, we kick out and drive out the money changers and all of
- 2:42the idol worship got all the merchandisers got all of the
- 2:47mammon and the love of mammon. God, I pray that we'll Kick It
- 2:51Out into the streets and burn it.
- 2:52All pride and vanity, God, all self seeking, all cowardice.
- 2:57God, we drive it out into the streets and burn it.
- 3:00Father, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, let the Holy
- 3:04Spirit fill this temple with your glory.
- 3:10Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, who is, who
- 3:23is to come. Blessed be the name, Yeshua.
- 3:34We worship you today in spirit and truth.
- 3:37We're asking today for a greater measure of your love and mercy
- 3:41and joy. Inexpressible, Father.
- 3:45Father, us. Lord, I pray that you'll help us
- 3:50to love well. Father, I pray that you'll
- 3:55increase the joy in our lives. God, I pray for the peace of you
- 4:01God, It only comes from you God through a relationship with
- 4:06Jesus. God, I pray that we can be
- 4:10patient and not try to outpace you God and cause you to Co sign
- 4:15on things that we've already decided in our hearts what we're
- 4:18going to do, whether you're in it or not.
- 4:20Help us not to grow impatient. God help us to wait well in the
- 4:24middle God, while you pull out the draws.
- 4:27Help us not to resist you, God, but to be patient and all of our
- 4:32afflictions that you're producing, the perseverance in
- 4:36our lives, God and the character, Lord.
- 4:40God, I pray for meekness. Help us to bridle all of our
- 4:48authority that you've given us. Help us God, not to just make a
- 4:52point, but help us Lord, to make a difference in this world.
- 4:57God, help us to be gentle and not rough with others.
- 5:00Help us Lord, to wait for the proper time to speak a word that
- 5:06pricks and cuts the right way. God not breaks people down, not
- 5:11tears them down, Father, but I pray that we'll edify and build
- 5:15each other up, Lord, with the gentleness that you've given us.
- 5:24Lord, I pray that you will help us to have self-control.
- 5:28Help us not to just speak whatever we comes into our
- 5:32minds, but help us to be slow to speak and slow to anger God,
- 5:36quick to listen. Lord God, I pray that you will
- 5:43help us to exude all of the fruits of the Spirit.
- 5:46Lord, help us not to succumb to negativity and backbiting and
- 5:51gossip, slander. God help us not to give in to
- 5:56the ways of this world, Lord, the ways that are totally
- 6:00acceptable amongst those who do not belong to you or have your
- 6:04heart. God, even those who call
- 6:06themselves Christians and believers, but they're operating
- 6:10within the same realm, in the same spirit of the world.
- 6:14God, I pray that we'll be called out and caught up with you.
- 6:17Father, I pray that we do not become debased and deplorable in
- 6:23our speech and in our actions here on this earth.
- 6:27God, I pray that you will help us to finish this race well.
- 6:31We love you, King Jesus, open our hearts and our minds up to
- 6:35your word. I decrease as you increase, and
- 6:38it's all about you. King Jesus, we love you, and
- 6:41it's in your holy and precious and powerful name that I pray.
- 6:47Amen. Let's start in verse one.
- 6:52Then 14 years after, I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas
- 6:58and took Titus with me also. So here Paul is going to talk
- 7:05about some of his companions that he traveled along with.
- 7:09And we can see this is the behind the scenes at the first
- 7:14council here at Jerusalem. And Titus was a best friend of
- 7:18him, and Barnabas was a great companion.
- 7:22So 14 years after Paul had received his conversion on the
- 7:31road to Damascus and had received from the Lord and had
- 7:36not gone and received any of his doctrine and theology from them,
- 7:44they had already started to talk about the very things that Paul
- 7:47had received on his own. And you can see it's one spirit
- 7:51and it's congruent. And here's what you need to
- 7:54understand, friends, is that all unrevealed prophecy, all
- 7:59unrevealed visions, all unrevealed dreams will line up
- 8:06perfectly with the revealed will of God.
- 8:11If someone is preaching or teaching or talking or
- 8:18propagating another gospel, if someone is speaking something
- 8:25that does not line up perfectly with the revealed will of God,
- 8:30it is not from God, friends. And here Paul received from our
- 8:34Lord Jesus Christ, and it was very much confirmed here at this
- 8:45council in Jerusalem, that God was the one that gave it to him,
- 8:49and not man, because God had revealed the exact same things
- 8:53to the apostles. To I went up by revelation, and
- 8:58communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among the
- 9:03Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation less by
- 9:08any means I should run, or had run in vain.
- 9:12So Paul here was wise enough to get the apostles aside out of
- 9:18all of the view of the congregation, and he pulled them
- 9:23aside and he spoke to them the things that he had received.
- 9:28And he did not want them to feel inferior or that he that Paul
- 9:35was not wanting to have to correct them on their theology.
- 9:41And think about that for a second, friends.
- 9:44These men walked with Jesus for three years.
- 9:48Can you imagine them having to be corrected by someone who did
- 9:52not walk with Jesus for three years but had received a divine
- 9:56revelation from God? How embarrassing that would have
- 10:00been to these apostles in Jerusalem.
- 10:03And Paul was wise enough to counsel them apart and outside
- 10:09of the view of the congregation. And Paul did not want them, if
- 10:17he did have to correct them for their hurt feelings and their
- 10:24offense, and perhaps them lashing out at Paul to cause
- 10:30anybody to think less of him and his ministry.
- 10:33So Paul took them aside, and very wisely conferred with them
- 10:38all the things that he had learned from God, and allowed
- 10:41them to munch and to wrestle with his words and his doctrine
- 10:46and his theology. Three.
- 10:51But neither Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled
- 10:56to be circumcised. So here Paul is going to touch
- 10:59on a little point that he was desirous to write to the
- 11:08Galatians for this very point here, that they were trying to
- 11:13Judaize the new converts who were Gentiles by telling them
- 11:19that they needed to adhere to all the strict Jewish law.
- 11:23And the law was only put in place to show us our need for
- 11:28Jesus Christ and the fact that we could never behave our way
- 11:32into heaven. We could never keep the entire
- 11:35law. And no matter how much you
- 11:37tried, it actually compounded into more and more and more
- 11:41sinfulness, friends. And that is what Paul is
- 11:46desirous to show them, and he's using the object lesson of
- 11:50Titus, who was not compelled to be circumcised even though he
- 11:55was widely accepted as a convert and a believer of our Lord Jesus
- 12:02Christ. So Paul is going to touch on
- 12:04this here in this chapter for and that because of false
- 12:10brothers unawares were brought in who came in privately to spy
- 12:14out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus that they might
- 12:18bring us into bondage. That's what these heretics and
- 12:22these apostate churches and teachers and leaders are trying
- 12:27to do, is lead people back into bondage, friends.
- 12:31And when you come to the Lord Jesus Christ, it is freedom in
- 12:36whom the sun sets. Free is free indeed.
- 12:39And we're not bound by the law, friends.
- 12:42He completely fulfilled the law. He did not come to abolish it,
- 12:46but to fulfill it. And in Christ we can know that
- 12:49we know that we know that. We know that when we take our
- 12:52last breath, none of our sins will ever be counted against us.
- 12:57Praise God, Hallelujah. And these legalists, these
- 13:01fundamentalists, they want to creep in and they want to start
- 13:05teaching that it is our behavior that makes God more pleased with
- 13:10us. And far be it from us to ever
- 13:12fall into these camps where we get beguiled unawares by silly
- 13:18little petty paper mache leaders who are teaching the doctrine of
- 13:24demons. Friends, far be it from us, it
- 13:28is grace and grace and grace alone, friends, that gets us
- 13:33into the throne room of God. It is only by what Christ did
- 13:37and not by anything that we do. But when we figure that out, it
- 13:42will make us want to do the things that please Him.
- 13:47And it is not because we have to, but it is because we want
- 13:50to. Friends, big difference 5 to
- 13:57whom we gave place by subjection.
- 14:01No, not for an hour. That the truth of the gospel
- 14:07might continue with you. So he's saying, don't even give
- 14:11them a foothold, don't even allow them the time of day.
- 14:16It is by their words that they are condemned, friends, and it
- 14:21is by our words that we are justified.
- 14:23And we can know that it is just if I'd never done it, just if
- 14:29I'd never committed that sin, and that Jesus Christ paid it
- 14:33all. And all the wrath of God was
- 14:36poured out at the cross of Christ, friends.
- 14:41And here these people are creeping in, telling the others
- 14:45that they must behave their way into heaven by keeping the
- 14:49kosher diet, by being circumcised.
- 14:52And there is no difference in our day with this Jewish Roots
- 14:56movement and the legalists and the fundamentalist friends who
- 15:00try to preach legalism and try to preach works based salvation.
- 15:07And it is garbage and it was garbage then and it's garbage
- 15:11now. It is only by the blood of Jesus
- 15:14Christ that will ever enter into the Holy Presence of God
- 15:19Almighty. 6 But of these who seem to be somewhat whatsoever
- 15:30they were, it makes no matter to me.
- 15:32God accepts no man's person, for they who seem to be somewhat in
- 15:39conference added nothing to me. So he's saying that God is not
- 15:45the respecter of man. He does not look at the outward
- 15:48appearance. He's not worried about what man
- 15:51thinks about him. God is the great I am, and He
- 15:58does whatever He pleases. Friends, that is what you need
- 16:04to understand. It is only by God's grace that
- 16:09we are saved and that we are chosen and predestined and
- 16:14elected, friends. And we fall down prostate at His
- 16:18feet. And we thank Him completely for
- 16:22choosing us and for saving us and for giving us enough
- 16:26wherewithal and mental fortitude to understand and to reason to
- 16:31come and to actually grasp the truth of our salvation and to
- 16:37walk in that reality, friends and that identity, friends.
- 16:42And we should be the most gratitude, the most gracious.
- 16:48We should have the most gratefulness friends when we
- 16:53realize what God has called us into.
- 16:58And Paul here saying he's not worried about what others think
- 17:02about him. He only has an audience of 1, 7
- 17:11But contrary was when they saw that the gospel of the
- 17:17uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the
- 17:22circumcision was unto Peter. So Paul was preaching to the
- 17:28Gentiles. Peter was preaching to the Jews.
- 17:32That's what is referenced there in verse 7-8.
- 17:36For he was for he that wrought effectually in Peter to the
- 17:41apostleship of the circumcision. The same was mighty in me toward
- 17:46the Gentiles. So Paul had a heart for the
- 17:49Gentiles, and Peter had a heart for the Jews. 9 And when James
- 17:56Cephus, John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace
- 18:01that was given to me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right
- 18:07hands of fellowship, that we should go unto the heathen, and
- 18:12they unto the circumcision. So here Paul is talking with
- 18:17James the brother of our Lord Jesus Christ, Peter, who is the
- 18:24rock, and also to John the beloved.
- 18:30And here Paul was extended a warm handshake of fellowship
- 18:38into the ministry of the apostles, and they Co signed on
- 18:44his ministry, and they were very glad that he was called to the
- 18:49heathen, so that they could stay and work out their ministry to
- 18:55the Jews, and expound upon the things to all the circumcised.
- 19:01And they were welcoming of it, they were accepting of it, and
- 19:06it pleased them enough to welcome him into fellowship.
- 19:11And they saw that God was working mightily in his life and
- 19:15that he had received all of his instruction from the Lord Jesus
- 19:19Christ himself. 10 Only they would that we should remember
- 19:26the poor the same which I also was forward to do.
- 19:30We know that Paul's heart was to take up collections for the poor
- 19:35in Jerusalem, where the groundswell all started for all
- 19:38of create Christianity. Friends, that's what you need to
- 19:42understand in Paul's heart was already bent towards the poor,
- 19:46and so should ours. But whenever these apostles
- 19:49examined Paul, the only thing that they could try to encourage
- 19:54him with was, hey, just remember the poor.
- 19:57Don't just make it about all of this grace and peace stuff.
- 20:03Make sure you actually are practical in your faith.
- 20:10And just remember what James, the brother of our Lord Jesus
- 20:15Christ said when he said that faith without works is dead.
- 20:20And that is what is referenced here, that Paul needed to have
- 20:24some kind of outward expression and proof of what he inwardly
- 20:31was teaching. 11:00 But when Peter was come to Antioch, I
- 20:45withstood him to the face because he was to be blamed.
- 20:51So here what you need to understand is we need to have a
- 20:54little bit of context. So here Paul comes in and he
- 21:02sees Peter and Peter's already received before he went and
- 21:08talked to Cornelius whenever the sheet was let down with all the
- 21:12unclean animals and God had told him to get up to kill and to
- 21:16eat. And Peter said no.
- 21:18And then he said don't. God told Peter don't call
- 21:20anything unclean that I've made clean.
- 21:24And it was this whole big process that got Peter to
- 21:27understand that it wasn't about keeping the kosher dietary
- 21:32restrictions and he didn't have to propagate circumcision and
- 21:38have to tell all of the gentile converts to go and cut the
- 21:42foreskin off. And Peter already knew all these
- 21:45things, but because of Peter's flesh, and we could see it here,
- 21:51Peter was trying to be pleasing of the Jews that were coming in.
- 21:56And Peter was telling the gentiles who were usually at
- 22:02this little potluck festival, this little eating and the
- 22:06communion that would have taken place, Peter took them aside and
- 22:11told them that they were not allowed to sit at the same table
- 22:14with these prominent Jews that had come in.
- 22:16And Paul witnessed it. And Paul here is going to oppose
- 22:21him to his face and tell Peter, listen, what you're doing in
- 22:26this moment is you are subconsciously telling all of
- 22:31the Gentile converts that they must keep all the Jewish customs
- 22:36and rituals in order to become saved.
- 22:40And that is not what God has given to us.
- 22:46And Peter was wise enough to accept it here, friends.
- 22:53And we are eternally blessed because of Paul's boldness to
- 22:57speak up and against what Peter was doing.
- 23:03And this uncomfortableness is what needed to happen in this
- 23:08moment. And God used Paul mightily to
- 23:12correct Peter in his error. 12 For before that certain came
- 23:22from James, he did eat with the Gentiles, but when they were
- 23:26come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were
- 23:31of the circumcision. There it is, friends, the fear
- 23:35of man must go. We are to please God and God
- 23:39alone. We are to listen to God and God
- 23:42alone. We are not to go against what
- 23:45the Bible tells us to do. And if we'll get in the Word of
- 23:50God, if we'll study the Word of God, if we'll learn the Word of
- 23:53God, if we'll own the Word of God, if we'll live the word of
- 23:58God, the fear of man will leave friends.
- 24:01And here Peter is operating in the spirit of fear.
- 24:05Far be it from us, friends. 13 And the other Jews disassembled
- 24:14likewise with him in so much that Barnabas also was carried
- 24:19away with their dissimulation. So that is what you need to
- 24:23understand is that Peter told all of the Gentile converts in a
- 24:29roundabout way that they were not worthy to eat from the same
- 24:34table and to take of the communion of our blessed Lord's
- 24:38body and blood friends. And in a way, he was showing
- 24:43them that they were not actually saved.
- 24:46And Paul had enough fortitude to actually speak up.
- 24:51And we are called to do the same.
- 24:54Friends be men, act like men, rise up.
- 24:57It is high time to stop being little boys, to stop being
- 25:01animals, to stop being feminine friends, but to rise up and to
- 25:07actually speak out against the things that are going on in our
- 25:12time and our day. And we will give an account for
- 25:15all the times that we shrunk back in cowardice and fear of
- 25:21man. 14 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly, according
- 25:32to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all,
- 25:38If you, being a Jew, live after the manner of Gentiles, and not
- 25:44as do the Jews, why do you compel the Gentiles to live as
- 25:50the Jews? He's calling Peter a hypocrite.
- 25:54And here there's a little nugget that you need to see the truth
- 25:59of the gospel. That is what we need more than
- 26:02anything. Friends, the truth of the good
- 26:04news of our Lord Jesus Christ propagated all over this entire
- 26:10world. The Gospel Shoes of Peace ran
- 26:13all all over every continent and every people group.
- 26:17Friends, that is what we need more than anything.
- 26:19We do not need to try to say it's the Bible plus something
- 26:24else. The Bible plus a denomination,
- 26:28the Bible plus another book, Bible plus another teacher, The
- 26:34Bible plus another pastor preacher, the Bible plus.
- 26:38Our preferences, the Bible plus. Musical styles the Bible plus
- 26:44what you wear and what you dress up as.
- 26:45The Bible plus anything equals bondage, friends.
- 26:51It is the gospel that we need more than anything else,
- 26:57friends, and Paul rightly corrects Peter by telling him,
- 27:03Do not put that bondage back upon them. 15 we who are Jews by
- 27:14nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles, 16 knowing that a man
- 27:22is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of
- 27:29Jesus Christ. Even we have believed in Jesus
- 27:34Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ
- 27:42and not by the works of the law. For by the works of the law
- 27:47shall no flesh be just, If I'd so that is what you need to
- 27:51understand is that the Jews must come in the same way that the
- 27:55Gentiles come in. The Jews cannot rely upon the
- 28:00law to get them into the fold and into the salvation.
- 28:05It is only by the blood of Christ that we are made right
- 28:08with God. We are made at one with God and
- 28:12we are just if I'd in God friends with God and through
- 28:20being covered by the blood of Jesus Christ.
- 28:24It is just if I'd never done it. That is all you need to
- 28:28understand about this word here justified.
- 28:33You need to understand that we will stand before God Almighty
- 28:37as if we have never sinned if we are covered in the blood of
- 28:41Jesus. And here Paul is letting Peter
- 28:46know that the Christian is dead to the law, that it's sentence
- 28:51has been executed. Friends, no flesh will ever be
- 28:57justified by the works. We will be rewarded by the
- 29:03works, but we will not be saved by the works. 17 But if while we
- 29:14seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found
- 29:21sinners, is there for Christ the minister of sin?
- 29:28God forbid. Here's another one of Paul's
- 29:31coined phrases, God forbid. And it's always connected to the
- 29:37most heretical sayings. If grace abounds in sin, maybe
- 29:44we should sin all the more. And Paul says God forbid, and
- 29:50here he's saying, is Christ the minister of sin?
- 29:53Because it's in the sinfulness that Christ has glorified.
- 29:57He says God forbid that to ever happen.
- 30:00And it goes back to what I've said 1000 times.
- 30:03Friends, if you're abusing grace, you do not know Him, But
- 30:09if you know Him, you will want to do the things that please
- 30:13him. 18 For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make
- 30:25myself a transgressor. The law never justified anybody.
- 30:30The law only pointed to our desperate need for Jesus Christ.
- 30:36That was the purpose of the law from the beginning all the way
- 30:39to the cross of Christ is to point to the fact that we could
- 30:43never save ourselves. 194I through the law, and dead to the
- 30:55law, that I might live unto God. So we know that Jesus Christ
- 31:01fulfilled the entire law, and if we will come and attach
- 31:06ourselves to Jesus, all of his righteousness, all of his
- 31:10purity, all of his sinlessness is our inheritance.
- 31:16Friends, we live unto God, and we stand before God holy because
- 31:23of what Jesus did, not because of anything that we do. 20 I am
- 31:33crucified with Christ. Nevertheless, I live yet not I,
- 31:40but Christ lives in me and the life which I now live in the
- 31:46flesh. I live by the faith of the Son
- 31:49of God who loved me and gave Himself for me.
- 31:58Jesus Christ loved us before we were ever even born, friends.
- 32:04He chose us before the foundations of the earth,
- 32:10friends, and it pleased God to crush Him so that you and I
- 32:16could be made right with Him and we can go to be with Him
- 32:21forevermore. And to live is Christ, and to
- 32:30die is gain. If you have breath in your
- 32:32lungs, the sole purpose of your entire entire being is to
- 32:38glorify God in the highest and to live a life of worship unto
- 32:44Him. Every act, every menial act that
- 32:47you do is unto God as worship to the King of kings and the Lord
- 32:52of Lords, and we live for him and not for self.
- 33:01We'll end on 21. I do not frustrate the grace of
- 33:08God, for if righteousness comes by the law, then Christ is dead
- 33:15in vain. Christ's death is in vain.
- 33:21If we're trying to work our way into heaven, if we're trying to
- 33:25measure where we stand with God by all of our external things,
- 33:31then Christ and his sacrifice is for nothing and it means
- 33:35nothing. And there will be many who stand
- 33:38before God and say I perform miracles in your name.
- 33:43I cast out demons in your name, I prophesied in your name.
- 33:48And he will say, depart from me, for I never knew you.
- 33:51That is people who are trying to work their way into heaven.
- 33:55That is people who are steeped in legalism, friends, And it is
- 34:00just as dangerous as liberalism. It is just as dangerous as those
- 34:06that preach another gospel, who are trying to say that the Bible
- 34:11plus something else or or people who try to omit parts of the
- 34:16Bible are equally as dangerous, friends.
- 34:19It is the complete, inerrant and fallible Word of God from
- 34:23Genesis to Revelation that has the saving power.
- 34:26Friends, it is the blood of Christ that makes us at one with
- 34:32God and justifies us. It is not by any of our works so
- 34:39that man can boast. That is what is referenced here
- 34:47in this chapter. I hope that you've been blessed
- 34:49by it. What an amazing paramount verse
- 34:59chapter here in God's Word that we get to come in and to study
- 35:07and to pick apart. And there's so much that could
- 35:09be referenced and said, but suffice to say that Christ is
- 35:15enough. Suffice to say that it is faith
- 35:24in the Lord Jesus Christ that saves us.
- 35:28Friends, It is not by trying to externally work out and show
- 35:35others how super spiritual we are.
- 35:39Is Christ enough? I pray that you've been blessed
- 35:47by it. I know I sure have.
- 35:50I love you, praying for you and we'll see you back here
- 36:00tomorrow. God bless you.
