- 0:00Speaker 1: Carly Rae Jepsen in Call Me Maybe. And I've mentioned
- 0:02Speaker 1: this before, Christine. If that song came out today, it
- 0:04Speaker 1: should be Text Me Maybe. Because when someone calls you,
- 0:06Speaker 1: are you annoyed? I'm like, no, don't call.
- 0:08Speaker 2: No, no, no, not answering that.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Just text me. It can be done in text. 106.7
- 0:14Speaker 1: Light FM, Cubby, Christine. Producer Kristen producing our show as usual,
- 0:18Speaker 1: doing a fine job behind the scenes. And here we go.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Labor Day weekend kicking off. I do the show with
- 0:23Speaker 1: you guys. Yes. And then I'm going to hit the road.
- 0:25Speaker 1: I'm leaving here at 10 a.m. That's my goal.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Okay, wow.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Maybe 9.45. Depends on when Helen gets here.
- 0:30Speaker 2: When is the boss listening? I think that's... Never.
- 0:33Speaker 1: We can leave now. How about now? No, the boss
- 0:37Speaker 1: actually loves our show, and I believe he's tuned in
- 0:39Speaker 1: from 6 to 10 every day. Yes, thank you. So
- 0:41Speaker 1: I'm going to go home to East Brunswick, and then
- 0:43Speaker 1: I'm going to get the kids and the wifey, and
- 0:45Speaker 1: we're doing our road trip Labor Day weekend down to
- 0:48Speaker 1: Virginia Beach. To see some family. Nice. I'm just dreading
- 0:51Speaker 1: the turnpike, as I mentioned yesterday.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Because you were saying between 1 and 6.
- 0:55Speaker 2: No, the busiest time now today is noon to 6.
- 0:59Speaker 1: And I'll be in the thick of it. Okay. But
- 1:00Speaker 1: what I'm hoping for, you know how they say like
- 1:02Speaker 1: Wednesday before Thanksgiving, the airports are crazy? Yes. I have
- 1:06Speaker 1: flown on that Wednesday, and it hasn't been that bad. Right.
- 1:10Speaker 1: I'm like, okay. The TV news hyped it up. And
- 1:14Speaker 1: I'm hoping maybe I'll be like smooth sailing today.
- 1:17Speaker 2: It could happen.
- 1:17Speaker 3: Yeah. Oh, this is nothing.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Maybe they scared everybody and everyone's like, okay, I'll leave now.
- 1:22Speaker 2: And then you're the only one out there.
- 1:24Speaker 1: That's what I'm thinking.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Maybe Turnpike South right now is kind of busy. Get
- 1:27Speaker 1: it over with.
- 1:28Speaker 2: That's what it is.
- 1:29Speaker 1: So how's my TV star doing? Thank you, Cubby. I
- 1:33Speaker 1: saw a cameo appearance of you. And so there's two
- 1:37Speaker 1: things going on here. First of all, I saw you
- 1:38Speaker 1: on TV. And second of all, the story you mentioned
- 1:42Speaker 1: here on Light FM a few days ago has really
- 1:44Speaker 1: gotten some traction.
- 1:45Speaker 2: I am so happy, thrilled, honored that the news networks
- 1:51Speaker 2: are picking up on our story in Utley, New Jersey.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Where I told you, you know, I feel like we're
- 1:56Speaker 2: the little community that could. There's a warehouse that's going
- 1:59Speaker 2: up right next to our residential community.
- 2:02Speaker 1: And this is an old bank that got sold.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Yeah, the property's been sitting for a couple of years,
- 2:07Speaker 2: and it's going to be sold to a warehouse. You know,
- 2:09Speaker 2: we're talking 18-wheeler trucks and four loading bays.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Noise nonstop.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Right in the middle of houses.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Right.
- 2:16Speaker 2: I mean, right there. Like, just changing our life completely
- 2:20Speaker 2: if this goes ahead. So we went to a board
- 2:22Speaker 2: meeting on.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Wednesday.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Wednesday. Thank you. What day is it again?
- 2:27Speaker 3: I'm with you.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Because I've gotten no sleep because of this, too. Went
- 2:31Speaker 2: to the board meeting so that the, you know, it's
- 2:34Speaker 2: like public hearing. First we hear from their side, then
- 2:37Speaker 2: we're supposed to be able to speak. We didn't even
- 2:38Speaker 2: get to speak because... We're still hearing from the client
- 2:42Speaker 2: side and their lawyer.
- 2:43Speaker 1: They're taking their time, aren't they?
- 2:44Speaker 2: Oh, this is going to go on a while.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Right.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Until like the public's really tired and we have to
- 2:48Speaker 2: go home because we can't talk anymore. So I hung
- 2:50Speaker 2: in there as long as I could. Didn't get a
- 2:52Speaker 2: chance to speak. But then I'm driving home yesterday and
- 2:56Speaker 2: I see NBC News out there and they're covering the story.
- 2:59Speaker 2: So I was like, whoa. So I went around the
- 3:01Speaker 2: block and just kind of walked over and I didn't
- 3:04Speaker 2: want to ruin the shot. You know, they were filming.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Just stood off to the side. I was like, oh,
- 3:08Speaker 2: I recognize these people from the meeting. So now we're
- 3:10Speaker 2: getting to be buds.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Okay.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Because we are, you know, we have a common cause.
- 3:14Speaker 2: And I watched them do the interviews I offered in
- 3:16Speaker 2: case they wanted to talk to me. They already had
- 3:18Speaker 2: a lot of footage. But yeah, I'm in the B-roll. Right.
- 3:21Speaker 2: And you're in the meeting.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I see you in the meeting.
- 3:23Speaker 2: And then I didn't realize I was on camera the
- 3:24Speaker 2: whole time in the meeting. And do I look cranky?
- 3:27Speaker 1: No, you look serious. I was. No, you look like
- 3:30Speaker 1: you really care. I do.
- 3:32Speaker 2: And the things that were being said were making me
- 3:34Speaker 2: angry and concerned. So that's what you see on my face.
- 3:38Speaker 2: If you have to know me to see me because
- 3:41Speaker 2: it goes pretty fast. But thank you, NBC News, for
- 3:44Speaker 2: covering this. NJ.com also showed up and I was talking
- 3:48Speaker 2: with them as well. They're covering the story. So I
- 3:51Speaker 2: know News 12 has covered the story. Light FM is
- 3:54Speaker 2: covering the story.
- 3:56Speaker 1: No warehouse in Nutley. Do you think you can do it?
- 4:00Speaker 1: I know you have a long way to go.
- 4:01Speaker 3: I know, Cubby.
- 4:02Speaker 2: That's the thing.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Does it feel like an uphill battle? Yeah, it does.
- 4:05Speaker 2: I've always wondered about these public hearings. Do they work?
- 4:09Speaker 2: Do they make a difference? Does the board really listen
- 4:11Speaker 2: to what residents want and need? Is that the right
- 4:16Speaker 2: fit for that area? It's clearly not.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Well, you're getting involved, and that's what it takes. So
- 4:21Speaker 1: I'm wishing you good luck, man. And I guess maybe
- 4:24Speaker 1: you think he'll know an answer this year, or no
- 4:28Speaker 1: one really knows, right?
- 4:29Speaker 2: We didn't even know about this, so this was the
- 4:32Speaker 2: first meeting I've been to, and it's been through some
- 4:34Speaker 2: planning stages, so it could be close to being done.
- 4:38Speaker 2: I hope we can stop it. There's another meeting coming up.
- 4:41Speaker 2: I'll be without sleep again in a couple of weeks.
- 4:43Speaker 2: I'll let you know.
- 4:43Speaker 1: All right. Well, you know what? You're always great on
- 4:45Speaker 1: the radio, but when you have no sleep, it's even better.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Okay.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Coming up, we got two pretty cool things.
- 4:51Speaker 4: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 4:55Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Okay.
- 4:57Speaker 2: I need to tell you two things.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Cubby and Christine's. Two pretty cool things.
- 5:03Speaker 1: How cool is this, Christine Nagy? Harry Potter will make
- 5:06Speaker 1: its first ever appearance during the 100th Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Thursday,
- 5:12Speaker 1: November 26th.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Very nice.
- 5:14Speaker 1: That's huge, right?
- 5:14Speaker 3: Yes.
- 5:15Speaker 1: So Macy's and HBO Max have unveiled a brand new
- 5:18Speaker 1: float inspired by the upcoming HBO original series Harry Potter
- 5:21Speaker 1: and the Philosopher's Stone. Now the float will focus on
- 5:24Speaker 1: one of its most recognizable spaces, Hogwarts Great Hall. The
- 5:29Speaker 1: design is intended to evoke one of the hall's grand
- 5:32Speaker 1: holiday feasts, complete with the iconic sorting hat. And all
- 5:36Speaker 1: four Hogwarts houses will be represented. You got Gryffindor. You
- 5:41Speaker 1: got Hufflepuff. You got Ravenclaw. You got Slytherin. And fans
- 5:45Speaker 1: will get an early glimpse before Thanksgiving. The float is
- 5:47Speaker 1: scheduled to make its official public debut during a Macy's
- 5:50Speaker 1: Studio preview event on November 17th. Nice. All right, so
- 5:54Speaker 1: November is a big month for this whole thing. Yes,
- 5:56Speaker 1: of course. What do you have?
- 5:57Speaker 2: I hope you held on to your CDs, Cubby, because
- 6:00Speaker 2: everything old is new again.
- 6:01Speaker 1: I actually have.
- 6:02Speaker 3: You have?
- 6:02Speaker 1: Not all of them, but I have a fair amount.
- 6:04Speaker 2: They're making a very surprising comeback. Now, we know people
- 6:08Speaker 2: have been into vinyl for quite some time now, right?
- 6:10Speaker 2: But vinyl is expensive. So suddenly we're seeing a jump
- 6:14Speaker 2: in CD sales. So anybody who was kind of making
- 6:18Speaker 2: fun of you for maybe still having them, we get
- 6:21Speaker 2: the last laugh. Experts say CDs are benefiting from lower prices,
- 6:25Speaker 2: affordable all-in-one players. and renewed interest in listening to full
- 6:29Speaker 2: albums rather than an algorithm and what it may serve
- 6:32Speaker 2: up next. So, yay. CDs are here.
- 6:35Speaker 1: It's kind of cool, but you don't get that crackling
- 6:37Speaker 1: like you do with vinyl.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Vinyl is beautiful, but vinyl is like, it's expensive.
- 6:41Speaker 1: It is expensive.
- 6:41Speaker 2: It's like 40 bucks an album or something.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. I tell you what, in honor of your story,
- 6:45Speaker 1: I will play the next song after this break off CD. Oh, okay.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Okay? All right, I thought you were going to say vinyl,
- 6:51Speaker 2: but yeah, do CD.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, do CD. Light FM.
- 6:53Speaker 4: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 6:57Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Cubby, Christine, Kristen, we're here. Happy Friday. Getaway Friday. So,
- 7:03Speaker 1: every winter, the country looks to Puxatawney Phil for a
- 7:07Speaker 1: glimpse of hope, Christine. Will winter rage on for six
- 7:11Speaker 1: more weeks, or will spring deliver us from misery a
- 7:14Speaker 1: little early?
- 7:15Speaker 2: Right.
- 7:15Speaker 1: So.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Phil is the predictor of that.
- 7:17Speaker 1: That's in February.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Yes.
- 7:19Speaker 1: But now we have a new predictor. We have a lobster. Yeah.
- 7:27Speaker 1: What's going on? Like, what does this lobster do?
- 7:29Speaker 2: Don't question Patsy Pete. He is going to predict whether
- 7:33Speaker 2: we have six more weeks of summer or an early winter.
- 7:38Speaker 2: So Patsy Pete lives in Belfast, Maine, and he gets
- 7:42Speaker 2: pulled from the bay, brought ashore, and chooses between two squirrels.
- 7:46Speaker 2: One predicts six more weeks of summer. Another picks in
- 7:49Speaker 2: early winter. And apparently this clairvoyant crustacean has been doing
- 7:54Speaker 2: this for quite some time. He communicates his prophecy to
- 7:58Speaker 2: a select group of local residents. They will then turn
- 8:00Speaker 2: and tell us what he had to say. So that
- 8:03Speaker 2: is happening this weekend. We're waiting for his prediction.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Okay. And I wonder if it'll be on TV like
- 8:09Speaker 1: Phil is, you know, will there be a whole like
- 8:11Speaker 1: chant going on?
- 8:12Speaker 2: It doesn't seem like that's happening. Maybe more of a
- 8:15Speaker 2: local thing, but you know, we're spreading the word. We'd
- 8:17Speaker 2: like to make them world famous.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Passy Pete.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Passy Pete.
- 8:20Speaker 1: The lobster.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:22Speaker 1: That will be eaten probably on Tuesday.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Does his claw go or does he like crawl towards it?
- 8:27Speaker 2: I don't know exactly what he does.
- 8:28Speaker 1: And do you want six more weeks of summer or
- 8:31Speaker 1: do you want an early fall?
- 8:32Speaker 2: I'm ready for fall.
- 8:33Speaker 3: Me too. Yeah.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm ready for fall too. All right, your weather today, though,
- 8:36Speaker 1: it's hot, sunshine, high 86.
- 8:39Speaker 4: More Covey and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 8:42Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Embarrassing moment last night. Rutgers Scarlet Knights football. They had
- 8:48Speaker 1: their first college game of the year. And they were
- 8:52Speaker 1: 29-point favorites over University of Massachusetts. 29-point favorites. It was
- 8:58Speaker 1: supposed to be a walk in the park, Christine.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:01Speaker 1: They got beat 37-21 by a team that didn't win
- 9:04Speaker 1: a game last year. UMass beat Rutgers last night 37-21. Again,
- 9:09Speaker 1: Rutgers was favored to win by 29 points. They got
- 9:14Speaker 1: beat 37-21.
- 9:14Speaker 2: They're just getting started. Like I said, long way to go.
- 9:19Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Oh, boy. Anyway, happy Friday. It's a big getaway day.
- 9:24Speaker 1: I got my road trip to Virginia Beach with the family.
- 9:27Speaker 1: We'll be in the thick of it. Think about me
- 9:30Speaker 1: around 1130 noon.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Wish you all the best.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Hopefully we're moving on the turnpike.
- 9:34Speaker 2: I hope so, yeah.
- 9:34Speaker 1: I don't know for sure, but usually like a six-hour drive.
- 9:38Speaker 1: So I'm hoping it's six hours and not eight hours.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Right.
- 9:42Speaker 1: You told me you're staying local this weekend?
- 9:44Speaker 2: We are, yes, because you guys are leaving. Everybody's going
- 9:47Speaker 2: to be gone. We'll enjoy the city. Thank you.
- 9:49Speaker 1: It is nice, by the way. It is. On like
- 9:51Speaker 1: Memorial Day weekend.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Yes, when it's quiet. When it's quiet. So yeah, Eric
- 9:55Speaker 2: and I are coming in. We are going to see
- 9:57Speaker 2: Titanic for the third time. Again. I love this show
- 10:02Speaker 2: so much. And he loves it, too. It makes us
- 10:04Speaker 2: so happy. That joy lasts for days.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Well, it's ending soon, too.
- 10:09Speaker 2: It's closing September 20th. I'm telling you. Everyone, please see
- 10:13Speaker 2: this show. It is the funniest thing I've ever, ever seen.
- 10:16Speaker 1: I'm very convinced. I really want to see it now.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Time is running out.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:21Speaker 1: I can't do it this weekend, obviously.
- 10:23Speaker 3: I know.
- 10:23Speaker 1: And then maybe, no, I can't do it next weekend
- 10:26Speaker 1: because we have something going on in Pennsylvania. So I
- 10:28Speaker 1: could possibly do it on the... You said 20th?
- 10:32Speaker 2: It's closing on the 20th. I think there's specials coming up, too,
- 10:35Speaker 2: like a two-for-one Broadway week special coming up. Listen, you
- 10:41Speaker 2: need to laugh. We need some fun. This show is it.
- 10:43Speaker 2: And you've been telling.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Me, like my all-time favorite movie, I really like slapstick humor.
- 10:48Speaker 1: So Airplane, 1980 Airplane. Yes. My favorite movie of all time.
- 10:52Speaker 3: Yes.
- 10:52Speaker 1: That shaped my sense of humor.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Uh-huh.
- 10:54Speaker 1: That just kind of like dry humor. wacky randomness. And
- 10:58Speaker 1: you said it's almost like airplane.
- 10:59Speaker 2: That's how it feels to me. It's that kind of humor.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Yes.
- 11:02Speaker 2: When I'm trying to describe it to you, it's all
- 11:04Speaker 2: of that because there's so many pop culture references in it.
- 11:08Speaker 2: It's so timely. It's so funny. It's as though Celine Dion.
- 11:13Speaker 2: We're on Titanic, and she's telling the story from her
- 11:16Speaker 2: point of view, but the movie version of Titanic.
- 11:18Speaker 1: All right.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Okay, so you know the movie really well, so it's
- 11:21Speaker 2: not making light of what really happened to people.
- 11:24Speaker 3: Correct.
- 11:24Speaker 2: But it's just the- If you.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Know Titanic, the movie- Yes. You will be rolling, apparently. Yes.
- 11:30Speaker 1: All right. Yeah, I love it. What are you doing
- 11:33Speaker 1: this weekend? 44363, you know my plans, you know Christine's plans.
- 11:36Speaker 1: I believe producer Kristen is staying local as well. but
- 11:40Speaker 1: we want to hear from you, the Light FM listener, 44363.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Can you give us a text and tell us what's
- 11:45Speaker 1: happening with you this weekend? All right, Christine, what's happening
- 11:48Speaker 1: in the headlines coming up?
- 11:49Speaker 2: You know, we're going to check out all the news
- 11:51Speaker 2: and some of us are celebrating the end of summer.
- 11:54Speaker 4: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 11:58Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 11:59Speaker 1: 7 o'clock at Light FM with Cubby and Christine in
- 12:01Speaker 1: the morning. Producer Kristen. Oh, thank you Pop-Up Bagels. They
- 12:04Speaker 1: delivered bagels and they are fueling us at this current moment.
- 12:07Speaker 2: They are so good. Thank you Pop-Up Bagels.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Thank you. Pop-Up Bagels. Remember Pop-Up Video.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Pop-up bagels.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Okay, nice jingle.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 12:16Speaker 2: It's a good plan for them.
- 12:17Speaker 1: And again, pop-up bagels, you're amazing. Christine has all the headlines.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Good morning, Christine.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Good morning, Cubby. And I know we're talking about the
- 12:24Speaker 2: getaway weekends, Labor Day. Right now we are dealing with
- 12:28Speaker 2: high gas prices. AAA is checking in, and they said
- 12:31Speaker 2: this is the first Labor Day where we've had gas
- 12:33Speaker 2: prices over $ 4. 40. Yeah, $ 4. 14 is the average. They said
- 12:36Speaker 2: a year ago it was $ 3. 20. It looks like there
- 12:44Speaker 2: has been some better news. Two survivors have been rescued
- 12:48Speaker 2: from the rubble nine days after that devastating flood roared
- 12:52Speaker 2: through a mountain town in Nepal. We lost over 1,200
- 12:55Speaker 2: people in that tragedy when a wall of water went
- 12:59Speaker 2: crashing through the mountain town, and they were able to
- 13:02Speaker 2: find two survivors yesterday.
- 13:03Speaker 1: I saw a headline that says, Miracle in the Mud.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the way to put it.
- 13:08Speaker 1: So hopefully we can have more of these miracles.
- 13:09Speaker 2: I hope so, too. Posthumous interview with feminist icon Gloria
- 13:13Speaker 2: Steinem is now available to watch on Netflix. They filmed
- 13:17Speaker 2: this as part of their famous Last Word series, which
- 13:20Speaker 2: showcases well-known figures being interviewed prior to their passing. Tributes
- 13:24Speaker 2: have been pouring in. I know he had lights here
- 13:27Speaker 2: in New York City in her honor yesterday. Horizon Organic
- 13:30Speaker 2: Dairy is recalling more than 5,300 cases of chocolate milk.
- 13:34Speaker 2: The FDA says the company warns it could be spoiled.
- 13:38Speaker 2: People were saying, like, they were puffing up the little containers. Yeah,
- 13:42Speaker 2: so if you see that happening, don't drink it. It
- 13:44Speaker 2: might be spoiled. In sports, we had the Mets and
- 13:47Speaker 2: Yanks off last night, both in action tonight. Mets will
- 13:49Speaker 2: face the Giants. Yankees taking on the Padres.
- 13:52Speaker 3: U.S.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Open, Venus and Serena Williams play their first round doubles
- 13:56Speaker 2: match tonight. And, yeah, Labor Day is considered the unofficial
- 14:00Speaker 2: end of summer, and a lot of people are sad, but...
- 14:04Speaker 2: There's a huge percentage of people who are saying, no,
- 14:06Speaker 2: I'm okay with it. And here's some of the reasons.
- 14:08Speaker 2: They're saying, your clothes won't be sticking to you anymore.
- 14:12Speaker 2: The kids are going back to school. And maybe there's
- 14:15Speaker 2: been some... people in bathing suits wearing Speedos that they
- 14:20Speaker 2: don't need to see anymore.
- 14:21Speaker 1: We're three for three. I agree on all of those.
- 14:23Speaker 1: But you know what? As soon as it gets, I'll
- 14:25Speaker 1: enjoy the cooler weather for a minute. Yeah. And then
- 14:28Speaker 1: we'll be complaining about the cold.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Yes, absolutely. But this should be a nice season. Fall
- 14:32Speaker 2: should be nice.
- 14:33Speaker 4: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 14:37Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Cubby and Christine here with producer Kristen. And I want
- 14:41Speaker 1: to talk about grilling because I feel like we talk
- 14:43Speaker 1: about grilling mainly on Memorial Day weekend. Mm-hmm. Fourth of
- 14:47Speaker 1: July weekend and this weekend.
- 14:49Speaker 3: Yes.
- 14:49Speaker 1: It's a big, grilly weekend.
- 14:50Speaker 2: It is. And like reflecting, I was just asking you,
- 14:53Speaker 2: you didn't talk about grilling that much this summer. We didn't.
- 14:56Speaker 1: You picked up on that?
- 14:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Because you're right. Yeah. I didn't grill as much as
- 15:01Speaker 1: I normally do.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Usually you're a grill master.
- 15:02Speaker 1: And I really got into it in the last couple
- 15:04Speaker 1: of years. And it's funny you said that because in April,
- 15:06Speaker 1: I remember thinking to myself, I'm going to run out
- 15:08Speaker 1: of propane. I got to get a backup tank ready
- 15:11Speaker 1: to go because nothing is worse than when you're grilling.
- 15:13Speaker 1: And then the flame goes out. You don't have a
- 15:15Speaker 1: backup tank. And I thought in April, I knew it
- 15:17Speaker 1: was already running low. I said, there's no way I'm
- 15:19Speaker 1: going to make it through the season. So I'm going
- 15:20Speaker 1: to get my backup tank. I never got to the
- 15:22Speaker 1: backup tank.
- 15:23Speaker 3: Wow.
- 15:23Speaker 1: So I really didn't grill that much.
- 15:25Speaker 3: I don't know why.
- 15:26Speaker 2: It seems like everybody's saying this. The summer somehow got
- 15:28Speaker 2: away from us.
- 15:29Speaker 1: I don't know what it is, man.
- 15:30Speaker 2: We missed a lot of stuff. But do you want
- 15:32Speaker 2: to hear what people are grilling in other states, Cubby?
- 15:34Speaker 1: Interesting. Do I want to hear all of it?
- 15:37Speaker 2: Do you want to? Or are you having breakfast? These
- 15:41Speaker 2: are what's popular to grill in other states, like Alaska.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Moose burgers.
- 15:46Speaker 1: I don't know if I've ever had one. I don't
- 15:48Speaker 1: think I have.
- 15:48Speaker 2: I would feel bad. Colorado has, and I can't really
- 15:54Speaker 2: describe them completely, but Rocky Mountain oysters. Do you know
- 15:58Speaker 2: what they are?
- 15:59Speaker 1: No.
- 16:00Speaker 2: They're parts of a bull.
- 16:02Speaker 3: What?
- 16:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Like the... Yeah, like that.
- 16:06Speaker 2: They're parts of a bull. Okay. Florida, what, are we
- 16:09Speaker 2: going back?
- 16:10Speaker 1: The Nads?
- 16:12Speaker 2: Excuse me, sir. Florida and Louisiana, they're grilling up gator. Okay. No,
- 16:18Speaker 2: just passing that.
- 16:19Speaker 1: But I'm sure, real quick, just to cut you off
- 16:20Speaker 1: for a minute.
- 16:20Speaker 2: I know, I lost you at Colorado, I know.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Well, no, I'm going back to the moose, actually.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Oh, you're going, okay, back to Alaska.
- 16:25Speaker 1: When you're grilling, like, you know, moose burgers, I'm sure
- 16:28Speaker 1: when they are presented to you, they look like a hamburger.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Like a hamburger.
- 16:32Speaker 1: But just the fact that we know it's a moose....
- 16:35Speaker 2: In Alaska, what if a moose is walking by? Aren't
- 16:37Speaker 2: you going to feel bad?
- 16:38Speaker 3: Like, oh, sorry.
- 16:39Speaker 1: But what about the cows and hamburgers?
- 16:42Speaker 2: I don't want to think about it.
- 16:43Speaker 1: We're kind of used to that, right? Is that why
- 16:45Speaker 1: we think differently?
- 16:45Speaker 2: I would feel awful, yes. Maine and Massachusetts, they're grilling
- 16:49Speaker 2: up lobster. And we just talked about that lobster who's
- 16:51Speaker 2: going to predict whether it's going to be a longer
- 16:55Speaker 2: summer or winter. Please don't.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Yeah, Maine has a lobster, if you didn't hear, that
- 17:00Speaker 1: predicts if it's going to be a longer summer or
- 17:02Speaker 1: a quicker fall.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:03Speaker 1: It's almost their version of Puxy Tiny Phil.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Yes. Passy.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Passy the lobster.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Yeah, Passy. Don't grill him. Maryland, they grill up crab,
- 17:11Speaker 2: Montana elk, Rhode Island clams. South Dakota, pheasant, Wyoming, bison.
- 17:19Speaker 1: It's funny, like these are states right kind of close
- 17:21Speaker 1: by and it sounds like they're like countries away.
- 17:24Speaker 2: I know it does.
- 17:25Speaker 1: It does.
- 17:26Speaker 2: I guess that because that's what is available to them,
- 17:29Speaker 2: like they have more of that. I don't know a burger,
- 17:32Speaker 2: a chicken, a hot dog looks good to me.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Just keep it simple, right?
- 17:35Speaker 3: Yeah, please.
- 17:35Speaker 1: If you ever had a moose burger or a bull nuts,
- 17:39Speaker 1: can you give us a text at 44363? What is it?
- 17:41Speaker 1: What is it? The thing?
- 17:42Speaker 2: Rocky mountain oysters.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Rocky mountain oysters, which are essentially bull.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Yes.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Nuts.
- 17:48Speaker 3: Yep. All right.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Hit us up at 44363 light FM.
- 17:51Speaker 4: More Cubby and Christine and the great music variety you
- 17:54Speaker 4: expect next on light FM.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Light FM with Cubby and Christine producer, Kristen and your
- 17:59Speaker 1: chance to win right now. And it's Flashback Friday, Christine.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Fun. Okay.
- 18:03Speaker 1: We're going to play a clip of a song. You
- 18:05Speaker 1: identify it. Title, an artist. Now, with this one today,
- 18:09Speaker 1: I want to give a couple of hints. Okay. Number one,
- 18:12Speaker 1: it's from the 90s. And it's a remake of an
- 18:15Speaker 1: 80s song. But both songs were huge. The original was
- 18:20Speaker 1: huge in 81. And this one was huge in 97
- 18:23Speaker 1: slash 98. Wow.
- 18:25Speaker 2: You're giving us a lot.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Okay. I'm really breaking it down for you. Here is
- 18:29Speaker 1: the clip.
- 18:30Speaker 3: A general, a doctor, maybe an emcee.
- 18:33Speaker 1: All right. 1-800-222-1067. One more time.
- 18:37Speaker 3: A general, a doctor, maybe an emcee.
- 18:39Speaker 1: And if you get it right, what do you win?
- 18:41Speaker 2: A pair of tickets to see Sara Bareilles, Friday, September
- 18:44Speaker 2: 18th at Radio City Music Hall. Tickets available now at Ticketmaster.com.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Or what song is that that Cubby's playing?
- 18:50Speaker 3: A general, a doctor, maybe an emcee.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Title and artist.
- 18:54Speaker 4: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 18:58Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Flashback Friday, 106.7 Light FM. Thank you for having us on. Cubby, Christine,
- 19:03Speaker 1: and Kristen. So, a little while ago, we gave you
- 19:06Speaker 1: a clip of a 90s song. You identify it, and
- 19:09Speaker 1: you win title and artist. Here we go, if you
- 19:11Speaker 1: missed it.
- 19:11Speaker 3: A general, a doctor, maybe an emcee.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Hi, Light FM. You know that song? Justice for Life.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Just the two of us by who?
- 19:19Speaker 3: Will Smith.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Will Smith is correct.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Will Smith, you've got it.
- 19:22Speaker 3: Congratulations.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Originally done in 1981 by Bill Withers and Grover Washington
- 19:28Speaker 1: and then redone in 1997 slash into 98 by Will Smith. Christine,
- 19:34Speaker 1: what do we have for our winner here?
- 19:35Speaker 2: You've got a pair of tickets to see Sara Bareilles Friday,
- 19:38Speaker 2: September 18th at Radio City Music Hall. Thank you. I'm
- 19:41Speaker 2: so excited.
- 19:42Speaker 1: What's your name and where are you from?
- 19:43Speaker 2: My name is Jennifer. I'm from Middletown.
- 19:45Speaker 1: All right. Hold on one second. We'll get your info.
- 19:47Speaker 1: So Christine, we haven't heard this song in a while.
- 19:49Speaker 2: I know.
- 19:50Speaker 1: We used to play it.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Yes.
- 19:51Speaker 1: And I want you to listen to it because you
- 19:53Speaker 1: probably haven't heard it in a while. There's a lot
- 19:54Speaker 1: of 90s references.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Oh, fun.
- 19:55Speaker 3: Okay.
- 19:56Speaker 1: You'll hear CD-ROM mentioned, PCs mentioned, and Will Smith, he
- 20:02Speaker 1: redid this song with a focus on fatherhood. after he
- 20:05Speaker 1: had his first child. Here we go, just the two
- 20:07Speaker 1: of us from 1998 on Light FM. Now, Dad is
- 20:10Speaker 1: a very sensitive subject.
- 20:12Speaker 4: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 20:15Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Getaway Friday, 106.7 Light FM, Cubby, Christine, and Kristen. And
- 20:20Speaker 1: because moms are rarely, rarely lazy, today is a day
- 20:24Speaker 1: where moms are encouraged to take as much time away
- 20:29Speaker 1: as you can. A much-needed break. Be lazy today. It's
- 20:32Speaker 1: National Lazy Moms Day. Oh, okay. So if you're a
- 20:35Speaker 1: mom and you're never, ever lazy, today, do it.
- 20:39Speaker 2: Producer Kristen, are you hearing this? Yep. She's like, yeah,
- 20:43Speaker 2: good luck with that. But yes. She's like, never happened.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Will never happen. And my wife slash mom, she has
- 20:50Speaker 1: a tough job today because I'll be driving and she'll
- 20:53Speaker 1: be in the passenger seat as we go six hours
- 20:56Speaker 1: to Virginia Beach, Virginia to see family. Road trip. And
- 20:59Speaker 1: the kids are in the back and our kids are
- 21:01Speaker 1: pretty good. Naomi Miles, you're going to be good today, right?
- 21:03Speaker 1: But if not, mom has some surprises that will keep
- 21:08Speaker 1: them occupied.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Oh, I love that.
- 21:10Speaker 1: If they start losing their patience.
- 21:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Mom is really, really good at like packing the car
- 21:14Speaker 1: with just, hey, you guys, if you're quiet the next
- 21:17Speaker 1: 10 minutes, you'll get this.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Look at this.
- 21:20Speaker 2: Oh, she's good.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Coco's good. But it's a tough job when you're the
- 21:23Speaker 1: passenger with two people in the back that are kids
- 21:25Speaker 1: because you know you're the one that can only do
- 21:27Speaker 1: anything because you're driving. So anyway.
- 21:30Speaker 2: So I'd rather be driving actually in that situation.
- 21:32Speaker 3: Shh.
- 21:34Speaker 2: You've got the good seat.
- 21:35Speaker 3: That's why I like driving.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Yes.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Where are people going this Labor Day weekend?
- 21:39Speaker 2: I'm glad you asked, Covey, because we happen to have
- 21:41Speaker 2: a little list here of the most popular spots in
- 21:44Speaker 2: the U.S. for Labor Day weekend. Beautiful Seattle, Washington is
- 21:48Speaker 2: number one.
- 21:48Speaker 1: That's a hell of a road trip.
- 21:50Speaker 3: It is.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Most people are flying.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Right. These aren't necessary just road trips. Exactly. They're kind
- 21:54Speaker 1: of all-encompassing, right?
- 21:55Speaker 2: This is the most popular cities for Labor Day weekend.
- 21:58Speaker 2: It's Seattle, Orlando, always, Boston.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Is up there.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Take that little side trip to Salem. It's fun. Um, Denver, Colorado. Okay.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Random, but I like it.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Yeah. New York, New York, baby. I mean, we're in
- 22:12Speaker 2: the heart of it.
- 22:12Speaker 1: This is the Mecca, right?
- 22:13Speaker 2: That's number five at number six is Chicago. It's followed
- 22:17Speaker 2: by Anaheim because we love Disney, Las Vegas, Anchorage, Alaska.
- 22:22Speaker 2: That would be cool.
- 22:23Speaker 4: All right.
- 22:23Speaker 2: And Atlanta, Georgia, man.
- 22:25Speaker 1: I can't believe it's here. You know, I know end
- 22:27Speaker 1: of summer.
- 22:28Speaker 2: This is like the last getaway. And then back to business.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Do you remember? I brought this up last year. Do
- 22:33Speaker 1: you remember like this weekend would be the Jerry Lewis
- 22:36Speaker 1: Labor Day telephone?
- 22:37Speaker 2: I certainly do.
- 22:38Speaker 1: And to me as a kid, when I saw that,
- 22:40Speaker 1: I was like, this is it. School's coming, man.
- 22:42Speaker 2: The anxiety was kicking for me.
- 22:44Speaker 1: And I was always blown away. I would go to bed.
- 22:46Speaker 1: I would see Jerry Lewis in his bow tie hosting
- 22:49Speaker 1: the MDA telephone. And I wake up the next morning.
- 22:53Speaker 1: And then he was all, like, out of sorts.
- 22:55Speaker 2: And sweaty.
- 22:56Speaker 1: And sweaty.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:57Speaker 1: And his tie was long gone.
- 22:58Speaker 2: Right, right.
- 22:59Speaker 3: And I was.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Still going. I remember going to Mom and Dad going,
- 23:02Speaker 1: you mean to tell me he was up all night?
- 23:03Speaker 1: They were like, yeah, he was up all night. I
- 23:05Speaker 1: could not wrap my head around a guy being on
- 23:08Speaker 1: TV all night long. Right. But those were the days.
- 23:10Speaker 2: It was great, yeah.
- 23:11Speaker 4: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 23:15Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Donna Summer, as we wrap up summer. Labor Day weekend,
- 23:19Speaker 1: 106.7 Light FM. Cubby, Christine, producer Kristen. And what were
- 23:24Speaker 1: this summer's biggest flops at the box office? I'll tell
- 23:26Speaker 1: you about that in just a second. But what are
- 23:29Speaker 1: people going to be watching this weekend if they go
- 23:30Speaker 1: to the movie theaters?
- 23:31Speaker 2: The runaway hits of the summer could be still like
- 23:34Speaker 2: at the box office this weekend. We still expect Spider-Man
- 23:37Speaker 2: Brand New Day to be number one for its sixth
- 23:41Speaker 2: straight week.
- 23:43Speaker 3: Right.
- 23:43Speaker 2: And the Odyssey is still going strong and they're going
- 23:46Speaker 2: to keep it in IMAX a little bit longer through
- 23:49Speaker 2: September 30th. And that's expected to come in second in
- 23:53Speaker 2: a new movie this week by any means will be
- 23:55Speaker 2: opening as well.
- 23:56Speaker 1: So what's the opposite of the Odyssey and Spider-Man? Those
- 24:00Speaker 1: are the two big ones of the summer.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:01Speaker 1: What were the big summer flops? I'm going to throw
- 24:03Speaker 1: some at you, Christine. Let me know if you remember
- 24:05Speaker 1: any of these. Okay. Do you remember the hype on
- 24:07Speaker 1: live-action Moana?
- 24:09Speaker 2: I do, yes.
- 24:10Speaker 1: There were some commercials about it.
- 24:12Speaker 2: There was a lot, yeah.
- 24:13Speaker 1: The movie was made for $ 250 million. Globally, it made
- 24:15Speaker 1: $ 315 million. So technically... It won. It beat the budget.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:23Speaker 1: But they thought it would be a lot more. It's
- 24:25Speaker 1: gone down in the books as a flop.
- 24:27Speaker 3: Oh, wow.
- 24:28Speaker 1: The Breadwinner. I don't know if you remember seeing the
- 24:30Speaker 1: commercials for this movie. I think Mandy Moore was in it.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Okay.
- 24:34Speaker 1: It was made for $ 25 million. It made $ 20 million.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Supergirl was made for $ 170 million.
- 24:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:38Speaker 1: It made $ 126 million. Wow.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Wow.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Some of these I remember hearing the commercials for and
- 24:48Speaker 1: then I totally forgot about it. Like Mortal Kombat 2.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Didn't Kara, wasn't Kara like dying to see that, our
- 24:54Speaker 1: friend Kara? Remember when Mortal Kombat, she wanted to go
- 24:57Speaker 1: see it? I thought I could have sworn she was
- 24:59Speaker 1: one of our friends that had to go see it. Well,
- 25:01Speaker 1: I know some people are into it. Yeah. But it
- 25:02Speaker 1: was made for $ 80 million and it grossed $ 129 million.
- 25:07Speaker 1: So you think, okay.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a profit.
- 25:09Speaker 1: That's a profit. But it's in the books as a
- 25:11Speaker 1: flop because they expected over $ 200 million. And The Death
- 25:15Speaker 1: of Robin Hood. That was made for $ 20 million, and
- 25:20Speaker 1: it made $ 9 million. Oh, last one, Animal Farm. I
- 25:23Speaker 1: don't remember Animal Farm, but that was made for $ 35 million,
- 25:27Speaker 1: and globally it made $ 6. 5 million.
- 25:31Speaker 3: Wow.
- 25:31Speaker 2: And see, you're saying what the budget is to make
- 25:33Speaker 2: the film. Then there's all the promotion and everything they
- 25:36Speaker 2: put into it.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Maybe that's why they call some of these a flop,
- 25:39Speaker 1: even though they made a profit.
- 25:40Speaker 3: Right.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Yeah. But anyway, text us if you saw any of these. 44363,
- 25:45Speaker 1: and we have a giveaway, don't we, now? Yes, we do.
- 25:47Speaker 2: We have a pair of tickets to see Disney World's
- 25:50Speaker 2: Collide concert tour featuring stars from the Descendants, Zombies, and
- 25:53Speaker 2: Camp Rock films. Now, November 7th at Barclays Center, November
- 25:57Speaker 2: 8th at UBS Arena, or November 10th at Prudential Center.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Tickets on sale now at Ticketmaster.com, or you can give
- 26:03Speaker 2: us a call.
- 26:03Speaker 1: We'll take caller 10-1-800-222-1067.
