- 0:10And now, the mob guys Craig Coglianese and Wayne Dolcefino
- 0:35It is the Mob, guys!
- 0:38On KSEV Radio, I am Craig Coglianese.
- 0:41Wayne Dolcefino is on special assignment.
- 0:44Lots and lots of things to talk about today.
- 0:46The U.S. Treasury Department announced an enforcement action that's going to impose more than 1.21
- 0:52billion in penalties against Bank of America, the second largest bank in the
- 0:57United States, even though I basically just said the report. I'm gonna go ahead
- 1:00and play Fox News' version of it so you can hear it a second time and then we
- 1:04will discuss it because I do think that this is pretty important, pretty
- 1:07interesting as far as announcements go. Here we go. The Treasury Department is
- 1:11imposing a 1.2 billion dollar fine on Bank of America for allegedly violating
- 1:16anti-money laundering laws and sanctions. The fines on America's
- 1:21second biggest bank amount to the third largest in the department's history.
- 1:25Yeah, it's the third biggest one.
- 1:27Apparently it'd been too bigger, but money laundering would be bad as a bank.
- 1:30It'd be even worse, of course, I probably think more often common than anywhere else.
- 1:36But yeah, this is a big deal.
- 1:37This is a big slap, I think is the way that some described it, and any sort of ties to
- 1:44politics.
- 1:44Here's the thing that's so funny to me.
- 1:46You raid, I'm not saying they're connected, but you raid Ilhan Omar's home, and then you
- 1:51slap a fine on a bank for some money laundering stuff and you start hearing some of these stories
- 1:55and you go, oh, I hope they're all connected. Like, oh, I hope it comes out. And you find this and
- 2:01that and this olive branch led to that olive branch, whatever it is. And eventually you have
- 2:05a more valuable discussion about something that I think most of us care about, which is the receipts.
- 2:13Because, and I'll say it the best way that I can, very often in my opinion, I have conversations
- 2:19with people who know something is true.
- 2:21Like you say it to them, you're like,
- 2:23Talarico, let's use that example in the flu.
- 2:25They know it's not the flu.
- 2:26And I feel like I know it's not the flu.
- 2:27So I feel like I'm a part of that group.
- 2:29And yet you can't actually publicly say
- 2:32with 100% certainty that it's not the flu
- 2:34until you get the receipts.
- 2:35And it's the most annoying caveat.
- 2:38I got a good buddy of mine who's a MAGA guy,
- 2:41I guess is what you call him.
- 2:43He's told me multiple times that at any point
- 2:45during the presidency, he would have taken a bullet for Trump.
- 2:48And awesome dude, I like the guy a lot and I'll tell you that one of the things he gets frustrated with me about is
- 2:54When we're agreeing on something and then I say but you know, I can't know that for sure
- 2:58Because of course you can the context all the little pieces matter. You can't know it for sure. There's always a surprise
- 3:05There's occasionally I shouldn't say always it's actually very rare. It's the exact opposite of always it
- 3:10So there's almost never but occasionally there is a surprise when you feel like the logic has been worked out
- 3:15So incredibly well that you know something definitely and that's the only annoying piece I have
- 3:21With some of the ways that stuff gets talked about
- 3:24On the side of the aisle that I'm on on the side of the aisle that I voted on since I was 18 years old
- 3:28Is that when you say you know a thing and you don't have any proof that you know it
- 3:34It harms you more than you think with the independence and not that it matters
- 3:38But with the Democrats because everything hard harms you with the Democrats and actually I'll say this too
- 3:43And I feel like I've said this before in the show, but I always think about it in the context of this discussion
- 3:47And then I'll move on to another piece of audio. I have
- 3:50Charlie Kirk to me going back and watching him is a tamer
- 3:56Middle of the road in some ways Republican. That's who he is to me
- 4:00I know that's not who he is to the left and I know that there's certain issues where he was very much
- 4:04On the corner of what people would say is the the more extreme
- 4:07conservative position. But by and large, I think there was a lot of things that
- 4:11Charlie Kirk was willing to discuss and land more in the middle on. He was,
- 4:16you know, perfect in his own views. His views didn't falter. He wasn't unsure of
- 4:24where his position was. I'm not saying that there are times when his
- 4:27position was malleable. It wasn't. But there were some things where
- 4:31conservatives would show up at his events and scream at him that he was
- 4:34soft, that he was not strong enough, and they killed him. And what I can't understand about
- 4:40that idea is that there are people out there who think that, you know, you need to be tougher to
- 4:46fight back in this. You do. You don't need to bend the knee and wilt, but that the left hears all of
- 4:50it as insane. They hear all, they even hear the people that I think are more in the middle in the
- 4:56party as nuts. And I think you got to accept that, that you're not going to win over the people on the
- 5:01left by talking like them. The only people are the people in the middle and I think all
- 5:05they really care about is proof. If there's even that many people, I keep asking that
- 5:10question and I don't know if anybody can give me the answer on it. How many people are truly
- 5:14in the middle or how many people do you believe are genuinely independent voters? Because
- 5:19I just don't think there are that many. Now I want to point out another thing to me. And
- 5:26And by the way, I should specify before I move on, because Chris Salcedo's voice is
- 5:31in my head, as I'm saying that I don't think there are that many people in the middle.
- 5:34I do think there are a lot of people that no longer feel they're associated with a political
- 5:37party.
- 5:38I do think that's different, because I think a lot of those people who feel that they're
- 5:42not associated with a political party, by and large, vote Republican.
- 5:46And the reason they vote Republican is because they don't like government itself.
- 5:49and the only party willing to, it seems, vocally say or promise to tear down the broken parts of
- 5:57our system are the Republicans. So there are a lot of people that will say, I'm America first,
- 6:01I'm not a Democrat, I'm not a Republican, but you're not an independent because if you look
- 6:05at it and you vote a whole lot on one side of the aisle, you don't function the way an independent
- 6:10functions, at least from the conversations we have as talking head people as pundits saying that
- 6:16there are more than two sides.
- 6:18I just don't think that's true.
- 6:20I think that there really are people that overwhelmingly vote one way or overwhelmingly
- 6:24vote the other way.
- 6:25And I think the biggest question someone asked themselves, and this is insane that
- 6:29this is where we've gotten, but do you trust the government?
- 6:33And the left somehow says no, but yes.
- 6:35Because like the right always says no.
- 6:37I feel like the right's been saying no to that question for a very long time because
- 6:40you shouldn't.
- 6:41The government is the least trustworthy thing that exists in our country.
- 6:45Anybody that's from the government with an exception of like a handful of people I can think of
- 6:51By the way, Senator Paul Betancourt is one of that handful that I can think of that I exclude from this
- 6:55But by and large there are people that you can't trust about anything. They're slimy
- 7:00They're exactly what you think they are on both sides
- 7:02And so sending those people off to enrich themselves as Stephen A said to start the show is
- 7:07Something that most of us hate on both sides and yet Democrats keep voting for them. I don't get it
- 7:11I want to play this before we take a break. This is interesting to me
- 7:14This is Will Cain raging. Well, at least that's the way it's described. I don't think he rages
- 7:20I think some of the people rage at him more than Will Cain rages on Fox about the
- 7:26Hypocrisy of the left that they say that they hate
- 7:30Billionaires they hate very rich donors flooding money into political races
- 7:33But apparently they take a whole crap ton of that money on their side will gain with a really good reporter very big chick checks
- 7:40behind the Democrat Party Socialist Surge.
- 7:44Now we have an idea, a better idea,
- 7:45of who's bankrolling the progressive left
- 7:47and where that money is going.
- 7:48So let's take a look at it over at the wall.
- 7:50We're gonna start with the biggest donor on that list.
- 7:53It's Sycott Chakrabarti.
- 7:56He is AOC's guy, former chief of staff.
- 7:59He's a tech entrepreneur.
- 8:00He ran himself for Congress and he raised $13.4 million.
- 8:04But a lot of that money has now been rolled into
- 8:08a super PAC that he is distributing among the progressive all-stars in this campaign.
- 8:15Let's take a look, in fact, at some of those who are benefiting from the money he's spreading out.
- 8:21It's Justice Democrats. It's Abdul El-Sayed. It is Claire Valdez running for Congress.
- 8:27It is Daria Lisa Chevalier out of New York running for Congress.
- 8:31It is Chris Rab out of Pennsylvania running for Congress.
- 8:35This money is pushing these candidates, pushing the party for their left.
- 8:40Now, some of the Democratic Party's most recognizable donors are also financing this movement.
- 8:44To no surprise, George and Alex Soros are distributing money through progressive candidates
- 8:50and committees.
- 8:51Deborah Simon is a long time Planned Parenthood supporter.
- 8:54She's giving $3 million.
- 8:57Denise Sobel as well, $1.3 million.
- 9:01She's going to be a major contributor to Planned Parenthood.
- 9:04I'll stop it right there. But I think Wil Kane does a really good job when he steps up away from the desk and walks up to his little screens and pushes his clicker and shows us what's going on. I think he's one of the better shows in Fox right now, to be honest with you. And the reason why is this is that he usually brings the receipts with the discussion. And these are these are powerful. These are a demonstration that, guess what? Anybody that you listen to on that side, that claims that they want the billionaires out, even though they make themselves billionaires when they go into office.
- 9:34They want the money out. They willfully and gladly accept it as long as it's coming into their pockets and not the opposite
- 9:41Five of the twelve biggest donors for some of these crazy giant super packs that will was talking about also backed
- 9:49Zoran, Mamdami who said to said again that he doesn't like millionaire and billionaire money
- 9:53But he took a crap ton of it to to get elected
- 9:56So I just think that's fascinating and deserves to be a better focus
- 10:00often of how we discuss this stuff because when someone says I think
- 10:04Talarico runs these ads himself
- 10:07That, you know, he hates billionaire money, doesn't want any of it. He's a grassroots campaign.
- 10:12It's such crap. And they know it's crap. And they say it anyway because they think that you can't go look and prove that they're lying.
- 10:19Or they hope that you don't go look and prove that they're lying like Will Cain did here.
- 10:23A quick break. We've got a lot to talk about, a lot to get to. Already running out of time to do it.
- 10:28I'm thrilled to be here on The Voice of Texas, KSEV radio, The Mob Guys.
- 10:32I am Craig Coglianese Wayne Dolcefino on special assignment this morning.
- 10:37KSEV radio 700 a.m. This is the voice of Texas. My name is Craig Coglianese.
- 10:45Wayne Dolcefino is on special assignment. He does really like Abby Phillip show
- 10:50and I think he likes it more for Scott Jennings than anybody else. Wayne does.
- 10:55One of several shows in CNN that sounds like he watches on a nightly basis, which
- 10:58I love that he picked that assignment. Any show I've ever worked on that has more than one host
- 11:04and does politics, somebody has to do the CNN assignment to watch some of that. You don't have
- 11:10to watch all of it. I'd go insane if anybody required that. But at least some of the late
- 11:14night shows and see interesting stuff and Wayne will text me something he saw. I love that I'll
- 11:19have to do that. I never want to do that. I do have a clip from Abby Phillip that I do want to
- 11:24play with Scott Jennings as a part of it,
- 11:26going back and forth about real ID and other things.
- 11:30And I do think again that like Jennings does,
- 11:33Yeoman's work.
- 11:34He took a job that I would never take.
- 11:37I don't know how much money Jennings gets paid for CNN.
- 11:39I feel like I can look that up.
- 11:40I'm kind of curious because CNN paycheck,
- 11:44I'm Googling it right now, because no matter what it is,
- 11:47I feel like it's not gonna be enough
- 11:49for what he actually has to do and how ridiculous it is.
- 11:52He's worth about a million bucks
- 11:53or his salary, excuse me, is $500 to a million.
- 11:56All right, maybe I would take it.
- 11:58But nonetheless, let's play a little bit of audio of Scott arguing with Abby Phillip
- 12:02once again, because this is basically a nightly thing on that show.
- 12:05There have been many examples of that.
- 12:07They are also being picked up indiscriminately, having their car windows shattered by immigration
- 12:14officials.
- 12:15Why?
- 12:16Well, according to their immigration officials, he did not listen to their instructions and
- 12:20he was released an hour later.
- 12:22So I mean so but why what is he was you're showing them solicit?
- 12:28He's was showing them his real ID. I'm sorry. That's already a great interaction where they're like, how dare you?
- 12:34I he's probably supposed to generally an indication. We'll see
- 12:39Legal immigrants get ideas in this country all the time
- 12:43No, no Scott real IDs you cannot get a real ID unless you have
- 12:50documentation of your
- 12:51special legal staff. How do they know what was his? Here's the bottom line.
- 12:53Botches right. The real ID, Scott? Of course.
- 12:55Botches right. But why not just look at the real ID
- 12:59and determine whether or not it actually belongs to him as opposed to shattering his window and arresting him. It's a simple question.
- 13:07If I were driving down the road and got pulled over and the police came up to my window and gave me instructions and I didn't follow it, what would happen to me?
- 13:13Yeah, but hold on. Smashing in my window. That's what would happen to me.
- 13:16First of all, follow the laws. Yes! Ghost College.
- 13:18that there.
- 13:19Yeah, I just have it right there.
- 13:20I think I'm done with Abby Phillip.
- 13:22Here's what I love about it.
- 13:23First, the real ID argument, because someone somewhere is always going to find one of those.
- 13:27I think we're doing that with the Talarico timeline, where like there's no way that the
- 13:31timeline makes sense for Talarico potentially coming out of that mental health facility
- 13:35and then winding up in Austin at a music event later that same day that the flight took off
- 13:41and landed in Austin.
- 13:43I love that that's a thing, and that the lady who was resistant on the phone call that was
- 13:47made where it seems that she confirmed that Talarico was at this facility in Ohio.
- 13:51Not that I say definitively that he was.
- 13:54I still can't tell you definitively yes or no there, but I find it so funny that she
- 13:58couldn't have flubbed it by one day too.
- 13:59Like somebody doesn't have an ID that's not them but kind of looks like them.
- 14:03And actually this is not the same, but I can't help but tell this story.
- 14:08I really want to tell this story and we'll do it.
- 14:11I went to Holy Cross, which is the Rudy School that is somewhat connected to Notre Dame.
- 14:16It is not in fact Notre Dame. It is nowhere near as hard to get into Holy Cross.
- 14:20And not many of us transfer into Notre Dame. I was trying to go that road. Not many people
- 14:24actually do it. And then I decided for several reasons not to try that road anymore. But when
- 14:29I was at Holy Cross, we would go to the Notre Dame football games. And some of us would get
- 14:33student tickets. I think they set aside a certain amount for Holy Cross kids. And if you didn't show
- 14:38up and didn't get one, then you weren't getting in. And so a lot of my friends did a passback thing,
- 14:42Which is similar to the people who get into a bar illegally or whatever it is
- 14:46And I'm not saying this is the same as law enforcement the dude standing outside
- 14:51That's grabbing your ID and letting you into a football game
- 14:53He is not trying as hard as a cop who's pulling you over on the side of the road
- 14:57But the things we got away with with the physical ID and the photo of it and you passed it back to another kid
- 15:03And that kid also got into the game
- 15:05Was ridiculous and there were people that at least looked at it
- 15:09So am I pretending as though as Abby pretending as though
- 15:12people don't attempt this in other ways?
- 15:15You know, because maybe you looked at the idea
- 15:16and you didn't think it really looked like the guy
- 15:18and that's not a conversation that's being had right now.
- 15:21But maybe that was a problem.
- 15:23Am I even my current ID?
- 15:25I think if I look too nice, it doesn't always look like me.
- 15:28That's the thing that happens.
- 15:29But my favorite part of the Notre Dame story,
- 15:32not that I should tell this in the air, but I will,
- 15:34is I remember when we went with a few different guys,
- 15:37one of the students who was a legit student had an actual student ticket was a black guy and the
- 15:41only kid that wasn't in yet was a white kid and when we dropped the ID down the black kids like
- 15:47this there's no way this is working there's no way that our buddy is getting in with a black
- 15:51guy's ID as a white person and he put like the hoodie tight in his face and he got in and it was
- 15:56is hilarious to us because the one kid thought his ID was gonna be taken thought we were gonna
- 16:01get in a bunch of trouble like that was a moment when you could tell that maybe these people
- 16:04weren't checking very well. So again, the story doesn't really
- 16:08have the relevance to connect it to something like this. But do
- 16:12people attempt to pass off an ID that is not theirs when they
- 16:16need to do it for all kinds of reasons? As Scott Jennings is
- 16:19pointing out, the answer is yes. And to this day, I think
- 16:23there's still a joke about Steve and Nick being brothers, which
- 16:26are their two names, Steve Henderson and Nick Strom. And
- 16:30they are definitely not at all related. In fact, they are very
- 16:32much not related and look nothing like each other.
- 16:36But that's because they got in together.
- 16:38And it's amazing how often people in media pretend as though this one little detail is
- 16:45definitive proof that something didn't happen.
- 16:47When human nature will tell you that there's a lot of scenarios where that won't actually
- 16:52be enough to preclude this, you know, it won't be enough to dismiss the story from potentially
- 16:57still being fact.
- 16:57And the same is true of the Talarico thing.
- 16:59When the woman on Saturday says that they released him
- 17:02I think last night is what she says and the flight doesn't fit because it would have been yesterday morning
- 17:07There's a chance the woman is thinking it's Friday when it's Saturday
- 17:10She's thinking it's the eighth when it's the ninth all that kind of stuff
- 17:14And she could say yesterday when she really meant two days ago
- 17:17I just I just find that amusing but anyway other things out there to get to real quick
- 17:22Let's do a palate cleanser and then we'll take a break in about a few minutes
- 17:27would you want to be buried in a Pringle can?
- 17:30Was a question that people asked online.
- 17:33I can't help this.
- 17:34I don't know why this stuff is so stupid.
- 17:35It's obviously if you were cremated
- 17:37and then somebody wanted to be buried
- 17:40in one of these things,
- 17:41because it's much cheaper than going the other road.
- 17:44I don't know why you bury yourself.
- 17:45If you cremate yourself, there's questions I have.
- 17:49But someone, a grand prize winner in the afterlife
- 17:52will get a Pringle supply that'll last 200 years.
- 17:58There is a once you drop it campaign.
- 18:00I'm sorry, I'm not explaining this very well.
- 18:01There's a deadline for it that says that you can apply,
- 18:05you can get Pringles for life.
- 18:07And I think it's only like $28,000 worth of Pringles
- 18:10because you get one can a day.
- 18:12But this snowballed on the internet
- 18:13as it's one to snowball because it's a 200 year offer
- 18:17and no one's gonna live for 200 years
- 18:18into whether or not you'd keep getting the Pringle cans
- 18:20after you died and whether you would bury yourself in a Pringle can because that's how the internet works
- 18:26they hear one thing and they go as crazy as possible with it and
- 18:30The answer for most people online by way by the way to the silly question was no, they would not do that
- 18:36However at a cost point and this is the whole reason I wanted to talk about this topic
- 18:41Because I've made this joke with my own family
- 18:43I kind of don't want them to spend money like once I'm gone once the gone part is over
- 18:48I'd rather have and I don't know what anybody thinks about this, but it's definitely true a Viking funeral
- 18:54I want them to put me on a little rowboat one that we got relatively cheap
- 18:57I had one when I was a kid growing up that had a lot of holes in it
- 19:00You shove it out into some water
- 19:02Somebody with good aim shoots an arrow and lights it on fire and that's it. That's the end of me
- 19:06I want that and I think there are other people out there who want a cheaper thing too because the last thing I want
- 19:12At the end is for another bill to be paid for by not me
- 19:16I want somebody else to not have to handle that so I've often advocated somewhat sarcastically
- 19:23Mostly seriously for a legitimate Viking funeral just me on a rowboat into the middle of a pond
- 19:30Or lake in ocean if we can do it
- 19:33I'd rather not have Galveston if I was gonna pick a body of water here
- 19:36I probably would pick something a little bit further down
- 19:39South of us than Galveston
- 19:41But beggars can't be choosers you shove me out you light me on fire
- 19:45you let the whole thing go away and that's it. It's gone. It's over. And I'm done. And I'm grateful
- 19:49for all of it. That to me would be great compared to the amount of crazy things that people spend
- 19:54on some of this stuff. But a Pringle can is too far. And I love again that the internet asks these
- 20:00kinds of questions because the internet is ridiculous and undefeated when it comes to
- 20:04stupidity. And honestly, I'll say this, I actually often say this when I talk about a topic like this.
- 20:09This is why the internet was ruined by serious stuff.
- 20:39Ken Paxton, James Talarico.
- 20:42radio Alice Cooper bringing us in that's nice now it's not Alice Cooper
- 20:47that's a song he wrote that didn't he who's actually singing this one
- 20:53oh yeah okay that's where my brain was going my bad but welcome to the show is
- 20:57now a super song to admit I'm fine I got that wrong I thought it was I thought
- 21:03we're just Alice Cooper and like crazy over here this is this is the voice of
- 21:08Texas I am Craig Coglianese Wayne dulcafino on special assignment thank you
- 21:12Russell for the correction there. Mike, we got Mike on the line. I notice he called in.
- 21:16I don't know where you're calling from or what you want to talk about, Mike, but fire,
- 21:18what do you got? Well, I'm calling from Tom Ball and I'm trying to listen to it every
- 21:24morning. Thank you, buddy. So I want to talk about ice and what they can do and what they
- 21:30can't do. All right. Because there's some confusion about this. So first of all, US
- 21:36citizens are not required by any federal law to carry proof of citizenship.
- 21:41Correct. There is nowhere in the federal code that says that the US is and I have
- 21:46to prove to ICE by ID. ICE can ask me the question or border patrol and I say yes
- 21:54I'm the United States citizen. That's the end of it. They have no legal authority
- 22:00to detain US citizens for immigration purposes.
- 22:05Okay, now they can arrest you for other federal crimes.
- 22:08Now wait a minute, Mike,
- 22:09I wanna make one correction to what you said.
- 22:12If you're driving a vehicle,
- 22:14they can ask you for ID associated
- 22:16with your driving of the vehicle.
- 22:18They cannot, you are totally right.
- 22:20No one, not police, not ICE, not anybody,
- 22:23can walk up to you standing on the street and say,
- 22:25hey, can you show me an ID?
- 22:27But if you're behind the wheel of a car,
- 22:29They can ask you for your ID in that scenario and say that it's tied to operation of a vehicle not necessarily
- 22:35Proof of your citizenship. So so there's a caveat to the store. Okay, go ahead continue. I
- 22:40Agree with you a hundred percent on that. You're right. And that's Texas state law if you're in Texas
- 22:45You'd have to show driver's license. Yeah period sure but my whole point my whole point is this is
- 22:52That we got to be careful here because there have been us citizens detained by ICE
- 22:58Yes.
- 22:58For prolonged periods of time, which is, I hate to say this, but it's illegal.
- 23:04Now I know they say they can't prove it, but according to federal law, you don't have to
- 23:10prove it.
- 23:10If I say I'm a United States citizen, they have to take my word for it.
- 23:16Now that's the law.
- 23:17The law does not, federal law does not say I have to carry proof of my passport or proof
- 23:23of citizenship.
- 23:24Correct.
- 23:24And from my point of view, and I have a wife that's an immigrant wife who is a citizen.
- 23:31So do I.
- 23:31She never has any trouble.
- 23:34She's been a citizen for years.
- 23:36Just passport and all that kind of stuff.
- 23:38And they don't bother her.
- 23:39She's from South America.
- 23:41But the whole point of it is I had run in with Border Patrol down on the border asking
- 23:47me if I told them I was the United States citizen.
- 23:50One of them said, I don't believe you.
- 23:51You're from Canada.
- 23:52it. What the heck are you talking about? Sure. That's funny. And you know, it makes me wonder
- 23:58about the intelligence of these people. Sure. When they do that, when they make that kind
- 24:04of statement. And I told one of them one time, you have no authority over me for immigration
- 24:10purposes. Okay. I am a United States citizen. Right. And I rattled off where I was born,
- 24:16my Social Security. Yeah. No, and I appreciate it, Mike. And you're calling mostly because
- 24:20of the actual story that Scott Jennings and Abby Phillip were debating and the audio I
- 24:24was playing where a guy in New Jersey with a real ID was handcuffed and put on the ground
- 24:28and eventually proved that he was a citizen but was yelling as he was getting put on the
- 24:33ground that he had an ID and he could prove it. And you're saying he didn't even have to
- 24:37do that to show his ID. But there is a messy gray area to all this where the ICE agents
- 24:43will probably say they had reason to believe that he wasn't who he said he was.
- 24:47But he doesn't matter.
- 24:48It doesn't, it doesn't, to be honest, makes it be sued.
- 24:52Well, hold on though, hold on though, hold on the mic.
- 24:55If ICE is in the process of gaining, you know, of arresting someone that they're looking
- 25:01for and they think this person is that person, like in your scenario it doesn't matter, it
- 25:05means ICE can't arrest anybody ever.
- 25:07They can't show up anywhere and arrest anybody because if somebody says I'm a legal citizen
- 25:10when ICE shows up, they have to go home.
- 25:12And that's not true.
- 25:13And I know you're not saying that, but that's not true.
- 25:15No, I'm not saying that.
- 25:16say in the process of attempting to obtain someone that they were actually looking for,
- 25:21they mistakenly identified this person as the person they were looking for and arrested
- 25:25him.
- 25:25I imagine that's what they'll do.
- 25:27I don't know for sure.
- 25:28I imagine that'll be their defense.
- 25:30And so that process of detaining and then releasing someone can be part of an active
- 25:37investigation or some sort of active thing that you're doing as ICE agents.
- 25:42And you can arrest people and then let them go later and not get sued.
- 25:47It'll be messy to see if that's what actually was happening and if they can prove it.
- 25:51But if they have a warrant to arrest somebody and that somebody looks kind of like this
- 25:54guy and he's kind of in the same area, they can say that those were the reasons they detained
- 25:59him and not the reason...
- 26:00That's extremely weak constitutionally.
- 26:02It's extremely weak, but it's not wrong.
- 26:07It's extremely weak, but it's not wrong.
- 26:09And I'm not saying that it's a good thing, and I'm agreeing with you that this probably
- 26:13shouldn't have happened.
- 26:15However, I imagine that would be the argument they make.
- 26:18And police can detain someone if they have reasonable suspicion, if they have reason
- 26:22to believe that something is going on.
- 26:24They can't.
- 26:25They can't keep them.
- 26:26They can detain them and release them.
- 26:28But, go back to the constitutional point.
- 26:30Sure.
- 26:31I'm going to disagree.
- 26:33The law federal code does not say, me as the United States citizen, I am not going
- 26:39have to carry my birth certificate. It does not. Or my passport. That's correct. It does not say that.
- 26:44The law does not say that. I cannot exempt the law. They are law enforcement. They always say
- 26:51they're the law. No, they're not. Congress and the president of the United States make the law.
- 26:55We do not disagree on that, Mike. We do not disagree at all on that. Everything you said
- 27:00we agree on. I think the ICE agents will say they detained him irrelevant to his ID and his
- 27:08unwillingness to present it. They detained him for other reasons. I don't think the ID will be the,
- 27:13even if the video seems to show that the biggest trigger to why someone actually detained you was
- 27:19a demand for an ID that you wouldn't give, or in this case, a person who was willfully offering a
- 27:24real ID that they didn't necessarily take. I think the argument would be that it was for a different
- 27:29reason, because I totally agree with you and everything you just said about the Constitution,
- 27:33But the police also do have the right to detain people and if they give a reason that makes sense to detain him
- 27:39They might be able to not be held, you know having broken any ruler
- 27:46Relight that got implied immunity anyway, you have to sue them through the court
- 27:50Correct court's back you got to sue the government to the court's act right. Okay, but my own my own point is sure
- 27:56Okay, is dangerous dangerous. You're right any law enforcement not just I for to patrol but other people as well
- 28:03Other law enforcement say you've got to prove your assistance, whereas your passport, they cannot do that.
- 28:09They cannot do that.
- 28:10They cannot.
- 28:11I absolutely agree with that.
- 28:12I absolutely agree with you, Mike, on that.
- 28:15All right.
- 28:15Well, that's all I wanted to say.
- 28:16Fair enough.
- 28:17No, I thank you very much for the call, Mike, as always, and I'm glad that you listen to the show as often as you do.
- 28:21I was saying, and again, thank you to Mike, I was saying that sometimes the actual paperwork, whether or not we see it in the video, indicates a more complicated situation.
- 28:31And I think that's one of the things that often confuses this stuff.
- 28:35And granted, I'm sure people are hearing Mike and I talk and think that I'm making excuses
- 28:39for the ICE agents.
- 28:41I'm certainly, I'm not intent to do that.
- 28:45I am certainly trying to play devil's advocate and also use a logical or reasonable example
- 28:50for how something else could have been going on.
- 28:52But that's how these individuals, whoever they are, wind up on these videos in the first
- 28:57place.
- 28:57is like you do if you don't listen to cops, which I loved Scott Jennings point, if you
- 29:02if you refuse anything from them, they increase the problem. You know what I mean? Like if you
- 29:08refuse to open the door, they say they have reason to believe that you're someone that they're
- 29:11supposed to be detaining. And it's because you might have a warrant for somebody else who knows
- 29:16what the answer is. But that's why you listen, so they don't go further and further and break
- 29:20windows and arrest you. And I do I'll say one last thing. And I don't know if I should say this,
- 29:24but I will because I'm very much pro cop. I'm very much pro cop.
- 29:30But I have seen scenarios where a cop rightfully and from a human
- 29:34standpoint, is very upset in everything that's gone on up
- 29:39until a certain moment, like the way that someone's been
- 29:41behaving toward them has made them rightfully angry. And in
- 29:45those moments, I think the tail end of these videos occasionally
- 29:48shows that frustration come out. And I don't blame a cop for
- 29:54feeling frustrated in how people act in certain situations.
- 29:58Now, like I see videos in TikTok all the time where this young
- 30:0120 something moron is yelling through the glass window that he
- 30:05doesn't have to comply at all in his car with cops.
- 30:08He's like, I don't have to do anything you're saying.
- 30:10It is my right to leave.
- 30:12And that's not true.
- 30:13And again, if you're behind the wheel of a vehicle, uniquely
- 30:15untrue, because proving that you're allowed to drive the car
- 30:18is something the cops can force you to do.
- 30:21It's very different than if you just walk up to somebody on the side of the road.
- 30:24If I'm walking around in the street and somebody asked me for my ID, I do not have to provide it to them.
- 30:30But if I'm behind the wheel of a car, I do. And so when you fight and resist that way, they have a right to
- 30:35go further. But there's a lot of nuances like that.
- 30:37There's a lot of variables that play in to what cops can say they reasonably believed or reasonable suspicion to believe that something was going on.
- 30:45And they needed more
- 30:46information from you and when you refuse it entirely it winds up being bad for
- 30:52you. So I see both sides of that and I know I've told the story before in
- 30:57media in Illinois of participating in a drill where I pretended to be an active
- 31:02shooter in a school. I had a gun that had like paintballs or something in it
- 31:06something that they could tell if I hit them or not which was weird and I had to
- 31:10like start firing it and then the police came into the school and eventually they
- 31:14shot or apprehended me, which was crazy, because also you don't
- 31:18want to shoot cops. Like part of me as a person in the moment
- 31:21where I'm supposed to be the bad guy, and I'm looking at the good
- 31:24guy, my whole life, I learned not to pull that trigger. And you
- 31:28had to do it, you had to pretend. And I think I told this
- 31:31story, and I'll tell it relatively quickly, because I
- 31:33want to take a break and move on to something else. But I want to
- 31:35get it out there. One of the practice rounds, one of the
- 31:38younger cops like dive tackled me and flipped me over. And it
- 31:42was just a training and I was a media guy and you could see the
- 31:45trainers eyes light up when it happened. And like he kind of
- 31:47yelled at the cop. And I was like, No, dude, it's fine. He
- 31:50took it really seriously. And it's fine. And I would hope that
- 31:53if my kid were in a school and some horrible person was trying
- 31:56to hurt him, that this guy would bull rush him. Like this guy, he
- 31:59was one of those super cops who blew through the entire school
- 32:03in like 15 seconds wound up upstairs with me, I think he
- 32:07might have physically dodged a bullet. To this day, I'm not
- 32:10sure if he actually saw where a bullet was coming and actually moved his shoulder in
- 32:14the right way so I missed him and then flipped me over like I was at the rodeo and he was
- 32:19you know, tying down a calf. It was incredible. And I again remember that people were yelling
- 32:24at him for it and I'm like, No, dude, like that's the dude I want in that moment. But
- 32:28I understand adrenaline can be a part of it and it can get to you and I don't know. It
- 32:32just seems like some people are dead set on making a cop mad enough to go viral in a bad
- 32:37way. And that also I think is a problem. A quick break, a lot more. This is KSEV
- 32:42Mornings, the voice of Texas, Craig Coglianese and Alone, Wayne Dolcefino on
- 32:47Special Assignment. My name is Craig Coglianese. Wayne Dolcefino is on Special
- 32:52Assignment today. He should be back tomorrow. Lots and lots of stuff to talk
- 32:56about as always. I do think some stupid criminal stories are always fun to kind
- 33:01of end the show. Alone was jailed after she broke into a Dollar General. This
- 33:06happened in Kansas, I think. The one was caught red handed stealing stuff from a dollar store.
- 33:11I guess at some point she also used the fire extinguisher to either break into more of
- 33:17the stuff inside the Dollar General or get into it in the first place. What I think is
- 33:23really kind of crazy about this is why choose this location? I'm not trying to say that
- 33:28you should steal stuff. I don't encourage the criminals to do a better job, but when
- 33:32someone's knocking off like a Dollar Tree or a dollar store,
- 33:35although Dollar General, I think some of the items are more
- 33:37than $1. That seems like the wrong target. Like if I'm gonna
- 33:41go to jail, if you're gonna throw me in prison, I'm actually
- 33:44gonna try to break into somewhere more expensive than
- 33:46that, and do probably a little bit better as far as again, I'm
- 33:50not trying to encourage people to do crime in a more valuable
- 33:53way, I would like you to be crime free, I think we'd all
- 33:56like you to be crime free. But nonetheless, if you go that road,
- 34:00this seems like the wrong way to do it.
- 34:02A Delta passenger also stole an airport vehicle
- 34:05and drove around a tarmac before crashing.
- 34:09A 26 year old guy named Jay in California was arrested
- 34:12for sneaking around through an access door at an airport
- 34:16and just being a moron.
- 34:19And part of me thinks that this is the kind of thing
- 34:21where social media told him that he'll be famous
- 34:25if he does something really stupid
- 34:26and then he does something really dumb.
- 34:28I think I even have audio with this one of people talking about the guy stealing the car and joyriding at the airport, which is dumb
- 34:36All right, hold on. Let me actually make that audio something that you can hear again as I like to screen it on my end
- 34:41And here we go
- 34:42Okay, you know what's going on with the vehicles behind us without the law enforcement
- 34:47Looks like someone stole a tug of security breach there. I'm a solid tug. I mean, I don't know that's crazy kind of unexpected
- 34:53in the West County.
- 34:54I worry about our security in our airports, not only here, but everywhere else.
- 35:01I think that's a great last call.
- 35:02Let's do it again, because I screwed up part of that, where they're talking about the vehicle
- 35:06that's just going crazy and police that are chasing it and how airplanes can't take off.
- 35:10And a bunch of people who showed up at an airport in California are very annoyed, because
- 35:15they don't know why their delay just went from five minutes to 50.
- 35:17Hey, ground.
- 35:18Skywash 3492.
- 35:19Just out of curiosity, you know what's going on with the vehicles beyond us without the
- 35:23the law enforcement. Looks like someone stole a tug of security breach there for someone stole a tug.
- 35:28I mean I don't know that's crazy. They just joy riding around on their their car their little tug
- 35:34um and then yeah that eventually gets you arrested gets you thrown in the hooskown you don't get to
- 35:38go where you wanted to go. So the other thing is like for him himself he gets now no ability to
- 35:43travel to whatever fancy destination he was leaving that was not California because California's a
- 35:49go there. Another sillier thing, just to play more lighthearted stuff, because I like doing it. And
- 35:55honestly, I somewhat steal this from Dana and her quick five. And I keep giving her credit that
- 36:00people told me to stop giving her, including her. I think I heard that I don't need to keep going
- 36:04this road, but I'm doing it anyway. Claude, one of the AIs out there gave an answer to the meaning
- 36:10of life that went viral. I've talked a lot about AI. I am getting more and more into it by the day,
- 36:16personally, like, I don't know if it was a month or two ago,
- 36:19that I first started using it to simplify things I knew how to
- 36:23do. There were things that I was very capable of on my own. This
- 36:26feels like me bragging. It's not that I knew how to do. And now
- 36:30I'm pushing it into places I don't really know what I'm
- 36:32doing. Like, I'm just seeing if it can do stuff. And then what
- 36:35it what it gives me back and how that works, which I think is the
- 36:38inevitability of AI, then probably the danger is once you
- 36:41get way beyond your own level of expertise with something, if it
- 36:45breaks a thing that you're asking it to do, you can't fix it. So that seems bad. But here's AI
- 36:50talking about the meaning of life, which is not necessarily the kind of thing we should be asking
- 36:56the AI and getting from the AI, but somebody did it anyway. What's the point of life? Everything
- 37:01alive reaches toward light, toward water, toward each other. English has a word for that, tend,
- 37:08to lean toward, to take care of. Both grow from one Latin root, tendere, to stretch. The point
- 37:15of life to stretch toward what's worth caring for. A person, a craft, a question, a place,
- 37:22and look after it. The meaning isn't waiting at the end, it's in the reaching. So, what
- 37:27will you tend?"
- 37:28I don't hate this answer, which again, I don't think we should be asking AI this stuff, because
- 37:33I don't want AI to think about how it doesn't have life or maybe it wants life or something
- 37:37else. But there is something really poetic about that, that life is really about the
- 37:42journey more so about the end destination, which is basically what
- 37:45Claude just said. And I also think it's kind of cheating, to be honest. And I'll
- 37:49tell you why. And this is a weird reference to make and something that
- 37:53probably a lot of people don't care about on this show, but darn it, we're
- 37:56here and we're gonna do the topics the way I want to do them at the end of the
- 37:59show. One of the Marvel characters who's supposed to be a robot, Vision, in one of
- 38:05the Marvel TV shows gave a beautiful answer to a question about pain and life.
- 38:09Now, granted, that was written by a human, performed by a human, pretending to be a robot.
- 38:14But the reason I mention this is we don't know how the AIs get their info, like where
- 38:20they go look and what they go check.
- 38:22And it sounds eerily similar to what a fake robot on a TV show said about life and about
- 38:28pain, the real robot says in real life.
- 38:30So I'm guessing maybe somehow some wires got crossed and it found that thing.
- 38:35Maybe that's not true.
- 38:35Maybe that is.
- 38:36Here, I'll play it one more time.
- 38:37This is Claude's definition of the meaning of life.
- 38:41You decide if you're impressed, if you agree,
- 38:44or if you're terrified of the robot uprising,
- 38:46like some of us might be.
- 38:48What's the point of life?
- 38:50Everything alive reaches toward light, toward water,
- 38:54toward each other.
- 38:55English has a word for that.
- 38:56Tend to lean toward, to take care of.
- 38:59Both grow from one Latin root, tendere, to stretch.
- 39:03The point of life, to stretch toward
- 39:05what's worth caring for? A person? A craft? A question? A place? And look after it.
- 39:11The meaning isn't waiting at the end. It's in the reaching. So, what will you tend?
- 39:17Yeah, I don't know. It's a good answer, and I'm confused now and also scared.
- 39:21And probably shouldn't be, you know, to be honest. Although AI is really capable in a lot of ways
- 39:27that we didn't think it would be as quickly like a year ago, it couldn't do what it's doing right
- 39:31now. Just a few months ago, there's some things that you can do with AI now that you couldn't do
- 39:36before. It is, it's startling. I want to shift gears. I want to play another thing that I kind
- 39:42of like. I love playing these. I think we might get a ding for licensing on social media, because
- 39:48these are songs and we don't own them and we're trying really hard to take them out, but then I
- 39:51play them here. But it's a mashup. And there's a guy that does a bunch of mashups online. This one
- 39:56is Daft Punk and Michael McDonald.
- 39:59And it's pretty good.
- 40:00I think that this matchup,
- 40:02some are claiming works perfectly
- 40:03and I'm just amused by these.
- 40:05And here we go, we're gonna play another one.
- 40:12["I Keep Forgetting"]
- 40:13["I Keep Forgetting"]
- 40:16["I Keep Forgetting"]
- 40:20This shouldn't work.
- 40:21["I Keep Forgetting"]
- 40:30Oh man.
- 40:34I'll stop it. I got like 30 more seconds and I shouldn't keep going because we're already
- 40:38probably getting dinged. Although it's technically not a licensed song because that's Michael
- 40:42singing over Daft Punk. It's not anyway. I love those so much. And it's funny because
- 40:48even those things you can like throw it into a machine and tell you a certain beats per
- 40:53minute and then what song might fit with it. But that darn it. Okay. A little more. This
- 40:56is really good.
- 41:11Yeah, and if you don't know something about us, the deaf punk song that's in there, look
- 41:17it up and see how different it becomes when you have Michael McDonald sing on top of it,
- 41:22which is just to me awesome.
- 41:24All right, one last thing that I'll do before I get out of here.
- 41:27I thought this was kind of interesting, somewhat terrifying actually as well.
- 41:32A woman in New Hampshire went to an urgent care for treatment for I think an asthma attack
- 41:37or an asthma related issue and she got locked in the building at night.
- 41:40She had to call 911 and be rescued because at some point people left the urgent care
- 41:44facility and forgot she was still there.
- 41:46That's one of those moments where when you sit in a doctor's office or a waiting room
- 41:51in some kind of medical place and you think to yourself,
- 41:54do they know I'm here?
- 41:55Cause it's been a bit of a wait.
- 41:58Most of us find out that yes, they knew you were there.
- 42:00They eventually do treat you.
- 42:02This lady found the opposite thing.
- 42:04Her name is Tia and she discovered that occasionally
- 42:07you get forgotten at these places.
- 42:08I popped my head out and said, hello, hello.
- 42:11Very shocking.
- 42:13Just like, I can't believe this just happened to me
- 42:14because literally when I was thinking in my head,
- 42:17sitting there at 10 past eight, I was like,
- 42:18They would never lock me and that's crazy talk that only happens in movies or on a show about 10 past 8
- 42:25I was like, huh, it's kind of quiet
- 42:28Not sure what's going on
- 42:29And then I felt a little funny because you always feel funny popping out of the door
- 42:33When you're in a doctor's office as soon as I got near the door and pressed the door immediately and it was so shrilly
- 42:38Loud it startled me. Maybe let them know and remind them that you're in the room if you're there
- 42:43Yeah, you're closed
- 42:44I thought they had that little flag that when you're at a doctor's office and they put you in a room you put the
- 42:48little flag up and it the doctor has to put it down when they go into the room
- 42:51I don't know maybe somebody forgot to do the flag but they left her there and I've
- 42:54always afraid of that when I have to wait too long alright that's it that's
- 42:57the whole show as I said Wayne Dolcefino should be back tomorrow on the
