- 0:06Speaker 1: All right here he is, Ken Rosendahl, our senior citizen insider.
- 0:11Speaker 1: That is welcome.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Ken.
- 0:13Speaker 1: I haven't seen you since. I haven't seen you since
- 0:14Speaker 1: the All Star Game, the All Star Break where you
- 0:17Speaker 1: graced us with your presence on set. I just want
- 0:20Speaker 1: to know, for the people out there that don't understand,
- 0:22Speaker 1: what time do you need to be done?
- 0:23Speaker 3: Ken?
- 0:23Speaker 1: Because I have never seen someone so worried about an
- 0:27Speaker 1: exact time just to go eat a salad.
- 0:32Speaker 4: That is a gross misatorization characterization of what that was.
- 0:37Speaker 4: And also I'm not a senior citizen just yet getting closer,
- 0:40Speaker 4: I get it, But aj, would you like to talk
- 0:42Speaker 4: about anything factual today where you just like to engage
- 0:45Speaker 4: in some of your personal myths.
- 0:47Speaker 1: They're not missed. I saw you, I saw that Caesar
- 0:50Speaker 1: you ate Ken. It's not my fault that you were hungry,
- 0:52Speaker 1: uh going? All right, KeNH let's get into it. Ady
- 0:57Speaker 1: Rushman on the Io, you wrote a column about being
- 1:00Speaker 1: trade possibilities. He was the one of the ones listed.
- 1:03Speaker 1: How does this hurt him and the Orioles? And then
- 1:06Speaker 1: what are the other catchers that are possibilities of being traded?
- 1:08Speaker 1: Because there's some teams out there, maybe the White Sox
- 1:11Speaker 1: with Kyle Teo. We don't know how hurt he is
- 1:12Speaker 1: after last night.
- 1:14Speaker 4: Well, I wrote about three all star catchers and Rushman
- 1:17Speaker 4: was one of them, Shay Langeleiers was another, and then
- 1:20Speaker 4: Hunter Goodman of course being the third, and just the
- 1:23Speaker 4: chances of them being traded. Now. The reason I wrote
- 1:26Speaker 4: this was because a lot of people are speculating that
- 1:29Speaker 4: with the Yankees in need of a catcher, they're gonna
- 1:32Speaker 4: go after these guys, and people just list names this
- 1:34Speaker 4: time of year. Hey, here are the catchers are gonna
- 1:36Speaker 4: be available? Well, in each circumstance, they're not necessarily available
- 1:41Speaker 4: and not likely available. And I'll start with Rushman. So
- 1:45Speaker 4: here's a guy who now has been on the IL
- 1:47Speaker 4: five times in less than four hundred days, right, a
- 1:51Speaker 4: little more than a year, and that's not good. This
- 1:54Speaker 4: will likely take him to the deadline or past the deadline.
- 1:58Speaker 4: The Oils have played batter they've won seven of eight,
- 2:01Speaker 4: so they're not going to be as inclined to sell
- 2:04Speaker 4: just to this moment anyway. But the real issue with
- 2:07Speaker 4: Rushman is that he is a free agent after next year,
- 2:10Speaker 4: the lockout year, and when you're the Orioles you probably
- 2:14Speaker 4: have one of two choices. Well, you do have one
- 2:17Speaker 4: of two choices. You sign him to an extension or
- 2:19Speaker 4: you trade him. It might be that neither happens. It
- 2:22Speaker 4: might be that they don't get an extension done because
- 2:24Speaker 4: he's this close to free agency. And it might be
- 2:27Speaker 4: also more logically, even they don't trade him, not now,
- 2:31Speaker 4: because he's injured, and also because they seem to be
- 2:35Speaker 4: somewhat in the race. They are in the race, so
- 2:38Speaker 4: he's not going to go. I wouldn't think unless the
- 2:40Speaker 4: team is willing to take a chance on a guy
- 2:42Speaker 4: who's been on the IL three times this year already.
- 2:45Speaker 4: But then the question becomes, Okay, what is his future
- 2:48Speaker 4: with the Orioles. The president Baseball Operations, Michaelias has said
- 2:53Speaker 4: he wants Adley Rushman to be an Oriole forever. Well,
- 2:56Speaker 4: there's a way to get that done, and it's by
- 2:58Speaker 4: sounding him to an extension.
- 3:00Speaker 3: These three guys, they're all all stars, they're all kind
- 3:04Speaker 3: of pushing themselves in different directions. Is there a chance
- 3:08Speaker 3: that at this time of year teams go exactly what
- 3:12Speaker 3: Michael Liah said, like we want him forever? He says no,
- 3:16Speaker 3: and then the trades start happening or is it just eh,
- 3:20Speaker 3: we'll see and then maybe obviously it's all value but extension. No,
- 3:25Speaker 3: then we're gonna trade you.
- 3:27Speaker 4: Eric at the All Star break, I actually thought that
- 3:30Speaker 4: would be the case with Rushman, and for the reasons
- 3:34Speaker 4: sort of that, I just stated that he's coming toward
- 3:36Speaker 4: the end of his service with them. It's a year
- 3:38Speaker 4: plus remaining, and they weren't at the time looking like
- 3:42Speaker 4: a team that was going to be in contention. So
- 3:44Speaker 4: if you're not in contention, you tried the extension. If
- 3:48Speaker 4: he doesn't take the extension, then maybe you trade him
- 3:50Speaker 4: with them in contention with them now, with him now hurt,
- 3:54Speaker 4: it's a different equation. Now Langeliers is in a different circumstance,
- 3:59Speaker 4: two years of control remaining past this one, and the
- 4:02Speaker 4: A's want to keep momentum going. Now obviously they've lost
- 4:07Speaker 4: momentum again, They've lost fifteen of seventeen, seventeen of nineteen,
- 4:11Speaker 4: have lost track. And you would say, perhaps, well, he's
- 4:15Speaker 4: a Scott Boris client, he's probably not signing an extension.
- 4:19Speaker 4: Why not just move him. Well, for one thing, they
- 4:21Speaker 4: don't have much depth in their system at Catcher for another,
- 4:25Speaker 4: And this is maybe more important, they're opening that new
- 4:28Speaker 4: ballpark in Las Vegas scheduled in twenty twenty eight. That
- 4:31Speaker 4: would be Langalier's last year with the team. They want
- 4:35Speaker 4: to go into that ballpark with a contending club. It's
- 4:38Speaker 4: hard to see right now, but they're playing at that
- 4:40Speaker 4: minor league ballpark, which is Coresfield West, and by twenty
- 4:44Speaker 4: twenty eight maybe it'll be in a better place. That's
- 4:46Speaker 4: their intention, So trading Langoliers to them doesn't make a
- 4:51Speaker 4: lot of sense right now. Now. The caveat always with
- 4:54Speaker 4: these guys, with anybody is make a good enough offerer.
- 4:57Speaker 4: You can get the player with Hunter Goodman, and that's
- 5:00Speaker 4: the case as well. What the Rockies are trying to
- 5:03Speaker 4: do is figure out, okay, which guys who are here
- 5:06Speaker 4: right now will be part of our next ninety win team.
- 5:10Speaker 4: And you might think, ah, the Rockies I never went
- 5:12Speaker 4: in ninety games. No, they're going to in ninety games
- 5:15Speaker 4: at some point, and they're under new management now, Paul
- 5:17Speaker 4: de Podesta and Josh Burns, and they want to build
- 5:20Speaker 4: toward that. So is Goodman or should he be a
- 5:24Speaker 4: part of that? With three years of control remaining, you
- 5:27Speaker 4: would think that within those three years, they should be
- 5:29Speaker 4: making progress toward ninety wins. At the same time, if
- 5:32Speaker 4: you can get an offer where you get multiple pieces back,
- 5:36Speaker 4: that could help accelerate that timeline or make it easier
- 5:39Speaker 4: to get to you consider it. I don't expect it
- 5:43Speaker 4: to happen. Hundred Goodman's having an amazing year has a
- 5:45Speaker 4: lot of value to the Rockies, but it's certainly something
- 5:49Speaker 4: that I'm sure why no, they're getting inquiries on what
- 5:54Speaker 4: if you can actually have it all?
- 5:56Speaker 5: And I'm talking about mint Mobile taking the premium wire
- 6:00Speaker 5: lists bouginess crats, but then bringing it to the transparency
- 6:04Speaker 5: in pricing and the affordability in pricing.
- 6:07Speaker 3: They're going to lay everything out there with a cheap
- 6:10Speaker 3: bill that you know what everybody can handle right now.
- 6:14Speaker 5: You can even bring your current phone and your number.
- 6:16Speaker 5: If you're thinking about it and you're like, I'm worried
- 6:18Speaker 5: about that, No worries. They have you covered because they're
- 6:21Speaker 5: able to convert people all the time to the Mintmobile way.
- 6:24Speaker 5: Go to mintmobile dot com slash territory. That's mintmobile dot
- 6:27Speaker 5: com slash territory. Cut your wireless bill of fifteen bucks
- 6:30Speaker 5: a month at mintmobile dot com slash territory.
- 6:32Speaker 4: That's it.
- 6:33Speaker 5: There's no catch upfront payment of forty five dollars for
- 6:36Speaker 5: three months, ninety dollars for six months, or one hundred
- 6:38Speaker 5: and eighty dollars for twelve month. Plan required fifteen dollars
- 6:41Speaker 5: per month equivalent taxes and fees extra initial plan term
- 6:44Speaker 5: only greater than fifty gigabytes may slow when network is busy.
- 6:48Speaker 5: Includes up to twenty gigabyte hotspot capable device required availability,
- 6:52Speaker 5: speed and coverage varies see mintmobile dot com.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Right.
- 6:56Speaker 3: The Yankees have been a team that have been connected
- 6:59Speaker 3: to right and Jeffers because they want right handed hitting catching.
- 7:03Speaker 3: They're both the two guys. Goodman and Shay Langliers are
- 7:07Speaker 3: both right handed hitting. But none of those three Jeffers,
- 7:10Speaker 3: Goodman or Sang Langliers received very well. And that's what
- 7:15Speaker 3: the Yankees value. Are there other teams that are looking
- 7:20Speaker 3: for this type of catcher, an all star type of
- 7:22Speaker 3: hitting catcher that is okay overlooking just the average receiving numbers.
- 7:28Speaker 4: The Rays are looking for a catcher. They've been looking
- 7:31Speaker 4: for a catcher ever since they didn't draft Buster Posey
- 7:34Speaker 4: in two thousand and eight or whatever it was. They've
- 7:36Speaker 4: had some catchers over the years. Anito was one that
- 7:39Speaker 4: were good for a time, but it's really been a
- 7:41Speaker 4: black hole for them. That's one team, and the Dodgers,
- 7:45Speaker 4: I don't expect that they would go for a number
- 7:46Speaker 4: one type catcher, but with Smith out Will Smith, they
- 7:49Speaker 4: might look for a complementary piece to Dalton Rushing. Now,
- 7:53Speaker 4: when you mentioned the framing and the receiving aspect of it, yes,
- 7:57Speaker 4: all teams factor that in. Now in the Yankees case,
- 8:01Speaker 4: they've got a catching coach Tanner Swanson, who is highly regarded,
- 8:04Speaker 4: who does really good work with catchers, who has worked
- 8:07Speaker 4: with Jeffers before he was in Minnesota. So there is
- 8:11Speaker 4: some connection there. And there's also the possibility that with
- 8:15Speaker 4: different voices in a guy's ear, he might do things
- 8:19Speaker 4: a little bit differently and improve his receiving aspect. You
- 8:22Speaker 4: might say, well, wait a second, these guys are in
- 8:24Speaker 4: the big leagues, are not changing that much. We see
- 8:26Speaker 4: big leaguers change all the time, and we see them
- 8:29Speaker 4: improved in the big leagues all the time, So it's
- 8:31Speaker 4: not impossible, all right.
- 8:34Speaker 1: I just want to know, Ken, if you had to
- 8:37Speaker 1: rank these three in the most likely to be traded,
- 8:41Speaker 1: because none of these three to me seem like would
- 8:43Speaker 1: be god retchmen to me would be one, just because
- 8:45Speaker 1: they have Asio already there, but the Rockies don't have
- 8:48Speaker 1: another catcher. The A's don't really have another catcher that's
- 8:51Speaker 1: there and already established and ready to go. So would
- 8:54Speaker 1: it be Richman one, Goodman two, Langelier's three? Or is there?
- 8:59Speaker 1: Am I wrong here?
- 9:01Speaker 4: Angie? I wouldn't even venture a ranking at this point
- 9:04Speaker 4: because frankly, I don't believe any any of them is
- 9:07Speaker 4: getting traded at this deadline. Now in the offseason, with Rushman,
- 9:10Speaker 4: with the lockout looming, maybe then that becomes a more
- 9:14Speaker 4: serious conversation, depending upon how the Orioles finished, and the
- 9:18Speaker 4: other two guys I don't expect will be traded at all.
- 9:20Speaker 4: I don't know that any team will meet the price
- 9:23Speaker 4: of the respective clubs that they would have to do
- 9:27Speaker 4: to get either one of those players, So I wouldn't
- 9:29Speaker 4: rank them. I would say all or unlikely, which is
- 9:32Speaker 4: kind of why I wrote it, so people can look
- 9:34Speaker 4: at this and say, WHOA, Maybe the Yankees aren't getting
- 9:38Speaker 4: those guys. Maybe the Rays aren't getting those guys. It's
- 9:40Speaker 4: going to have to be others.
- 9:43Speaker 3: All right, Let's go to the national leagues where the
- 9:45Speaker 3: Braves are fighting off the Phillies keeping them at bay.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Whatever it is, where's their focus going to be at
- 9:52Speaker 3: this trade deadline? Because you will look at the team
- 9:54Speaker 3: and you say, there's a few holes to a really
- 9:56Speaker 3: good team that could make them an elite team.
- 10:00Speaker 4: It's funny. Eric friday I wrote and reported that the
- 10:04Speaker 4: Braves focus at that time was offense. They were concerned
- 10:08Speaker 4: about their offensive consistency over several weeks, and while starting
- 10:13Speaker 4: pitching certainly has been in need. Going back to the
- 10:15Speaker 4: off season, they felt that they had a number of
- 10:18Speaker 4: internal options, guys coming back on rehabilitation assignments, things like that,
- 10:24Speaker 4: where they would have choices. They still might, but it
- 10:27Speaker 4: still seems to me, as it has seemed from spring training,
- 10:31Speaker 4: they need a starter capable of starting a playoff game.
- 10:35Speaker 4: Alexandthopolis listed that as their number one need in the
- 10:39Speaker 4: offseason and never addressed. It still hasn't addressed. It still
- 10:43Speaker 4: seems to me that's a big need. Their offense right
- 10:45Speaker 4: now is in a better place. Austin Riley has finally
- 10:49Speaker 4: come alive here, Acuna is coming back, so I would
- 10:53Speaker 4: think their focus has to be pitching despite what I
- 10:56Speaker 4: was told last week and despite what I wrote, it
- 10:59Speaker 4: just seemed to me that Bryce Elder pitched better last night.
- 11:02Speaker 4: That was good. But they got to keep this going.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Oh, the Phillies are right on their tails, Kenny, so
- 11:09Speaker 1: they got to win every game. The Phillies have been
- 11:12Speaker 1: playing really well. They beat the Dodgers last night and
- 11:13Speaker 1: they've they've closed that gap down. So it's gonna be interesting,
- 11:16Speaker 1: which is good. Good for the game, not good if
- 11:18Speaker 1: you're a Braves fan. If you're Claudia, she's a little
- 11:20Speaker 1: bit panicked because the Braves might be in trouble. But
- 11:22Speaker 1: there was another team we thought was dead and buried,
- 11:24Speaker 1: the Red Sox, not that long ago. Here they are, Kenny,
- 11:27Speaker 1: fourteen game winning streak. You have no athletics, big board,
- 11:31Speaker 1: Wilson controller Sonny Gray were in the top ten most
- 11:33Speaker 1: likely to be traded. Has this changed their mind and
- 11:36Speaker 1: now they're gonna be buyers?
- 11:38Speaker 4: I would say it's definitely changing their mind. Now things
- 11:41Speaker 4: can change still over the next eleven or twelve days,
- 11:45Speaker 4: and the Red Sox could go the other way again,
- 11:46Speaker 4: though it certainly doesn't look like at this point they're
- 11:48Speaker 4: gonna lose another game. The rest of the season. But
- 11:51Speaker 4: I would expect, yes, at this point, that they will
- 11:53Speaker 4: buy and not sell. They could do a little of both,
- 11:56Speaker 4: but Sonny Gray's been crucial to what they've done, and
- 11:59Speaker 4: Wilson Contra I don't know that he was ever really
- 12:02Speaker 4: a serious trade candidate. He has another year left and
- 12:05Speaker 4: he's been such a huge part of their offense and
- 12:08Speaker 4: really their overall team chemistry. So I do see them buying,
- 12:14Speaker 4: and what the need is is clear. It's offense, it's
- 12:17Speaker 4: a right handed bat, and I know they're scoring now
- 12:19Speaker 4: and they're playing much better. And for all of us,
- 12:21Speaker 4: including myself, who were very critical of their president of
- 12:24Speaker 4: baseball Operations or their chief baseball officer, Craig Breslow, what
- 12:28Speaker 4: is happening with them is kind of the way he
- 12:30Speaker 4: laid it out in certain respects. They're getting great pitching
- 12:33Speaker 4: and Suarez not coming off the il tonight but perhaps tomorrow.
- 12:37Speaker 4: He's been a part of that. Of course, they've got
- 12:40Speaker 4: the young kids that they've developed themselves, and even without
- 12:44Speaker 4: Crochet they're starting. Pitching has been an absolute strength, and
- 12:47Speaker 4: it's enabled them to build a foundation for this pitching
- 12:51Speaker 4: defense thing that they were trying to do. So great
- 12:54Speaker 4: for the Red Sox. It's good to see Fenway alive again,
- 12:57Speaker 4: and it's cool to see this whole thing turn around.
- 13:00Speaker 4: And it's just proof again. Aj. We talk and we
- 13:03Speaker 4: talk and we talk, and I write and I write
- 13:05Speaker 4: and I write, and a lot of times I'll be honest,
- 13:08Speaker 4: I evidently don't know what I'm talking about.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Well, I'm actually gonna bring up one of the things
- 13:14Speaker 3: you said on our show was Craig Breslow, because of
- 13:17Speaker 3: some of the things have gone on, might be on
- 13:19Speaker 3: the hot seat. Now does he act like a GM
- 13:23Speaker 3: that's on the hot seat? You talked about Dana Brown
- 13:26Speaker 3: possibly on the hot seat, so he could be very
- 13:28Speaker 3: aggressive in making moves, even though Jim Crane hamstrung him.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Could Craig Breslow will be all of a sudden, this
- 13:33Speaker 3: GM that's gonna move like a GM on the hot
- 13:36Speaker 3: seat and be this Dave Dombrowski that we want to see.
- 13:40Speaker 4: Eric. Gms don't often operate as if they're on the
- 13:44Speaker 4: hot seat. And what I mean by that is the
- 13:47Speaker 4: way they go about it and the lip service they
- 13:50Speaker 4: give anyway, is that they're trying to do at all
- 13:52Speaker 4: times what's best for the organization, and if they do
- 13:55Speaker 4: that and things work out, then okay, they'll be safe.
- 14:00Speaker 4: Expect Reslo to operate differently because of what's been written
- 14:04Speaker 4: said about him, because of Sam Kennedy, their team president,
- 14:07Speaker 4: calling the team's play and embarrassment last month. What I
- 14:11Speaker 4: expect is him to do what he thinks is best.
- 14:14Speaker 4: Same with Michael Elias in Baltimore. Now, what they end
- 14:18Speaker 4: up doing might not turn out to be what's best,
- 14:21Speaker 4: and it might turn out to be a mistaken who knows,
- 14:23Speaker 4: also might turn out to be great. But generally speaking,
- 14:28Speaker 4: guys don't try to save their jobs at the deadline.
- 14:30Speaker 4: That's not how they work, and it's a credit to
- 14:33Speaker 4: them actually, because they know what they have to do
- 14:36Speaker 4: is keep the organization's best interests in mind. I know
- 14:39Speaker 4: there are exceptions to this. I'm sure there are over
- 14:41Speaker 4: the years, but generally speaking, I don't see GM's presidents
- 14:45Speaker 4: of Baseball operations chief baseball officers operating like that.

- 15:51Speaker 1: Ken. A couple of teams I want to ask you about.
- 15:53Speaker 1: One is the Padres, who are I think forty nine
- 15:55Speaker 1: and fifties sitting there at forty nine and fifty right now?
- 15:59Speaker 1: Not great? I mean they have a lot of pieces.
- 16:01Speaker 1: And then the other one is the Blue Jays, who
- 16:03Speaker 1: almost were again six inches away from winning the World
- 16:06Speaker 1: Series last year. Are these teams going to be sellers?
- 16:09Speaker 1: Is there a move out there? Dylan cieslaws last night
- 16:11Speaker 1: for the Blue Jays. Is there a move out there
- 16:13Speaker 1: that could put both fault these teams back into playoff
- 16:16Speaker 1: not only playoff contention, but World Series contention.
- 16:21Speaker 4: It's tough to see right now with both those teams,
- 16:23Speaker 4: AJ and both those teams right now, if you had
- 16:26Speaker 4: to guess, would be trending towards selling the Padres. This
- 16:30Speaker 4: morning I checked their playoff odds were like nine percent,
- 16:33Speaker 4: not very good at all. Now. The difference with them
- 16:36Speaker 4: is they're run by a President of Baseball Operations AJ Preller,
- 16:40Speaker 4: who doesn't seem to take into account the odds against him.
- 16:44Speaker 4: He will fire, and he will try his best to
- 16:47Speaker 4: put a playoff caliber team on the field almost no
- 16:51Speaker 4: matter what the odds are. Now, could this year be
- 16:53Speaker 4: the exception? It certainly could be the exception, and it
- 16:56Speaker 4: probably should be the exception based on the way they've played.
- 17:00Speaker 4: Their offense just hasn't been good enough. The rotation is
- 17:02Speaker 4: still full of questions. Maybe they get paveda back and
- 17:06Speaker 4: must grove back and it's a better look, but it's
- 17:09Speaker 4: tough to see. The Blue Jays it's kind of the
- 17:12Speaker 4: same thing. Haven't hit all year and vlad Junior still
- 17:16Speaker 4: does not have a home run at Rogers Center. No
- 17:20Speaker 4: home runs at home this season for lad Junior, it's
- 17:23Speaker 4: hard to believe that that's possible. And it's not just
- 17:25Speaker 4: on him. They've missed Addison Barger, They've had Alejandro Kirk
- 17:31Speaker 4: out for a while, come back not that good or
- 17:33Speaker 4: not that good offensively, they just haven't clicked the way
- 17:36Speaker 4: they have in the past. So I could see them
- 17:39Speaker 4: selling too, and it would be surprising and maybe things
- 17:42Speaker 4: change over the next eleven days in each case because
- 17:45Speaker 4: we've seen just look at the Red Sox as an example,
- 17:49Speaker 4: it's really two weeks that this has happened. Over before
- 17:53Speaker 4: this fourteen game streak, no one was saying, wow, the
- 17:55Speaker 4: Red Sox, so it can change really quickly.
- 18:00Speaker 3: All right, Well, then, who are the Jays' most valuable pieces?
- 18:03Speaker 3: Is it Gosman is a Dalton Varshow in the defensive
- 18:07Speaker 3: center field aspect? Or is there something that I'm not
- 18:09Speaker 3: thinking of that's got an expiring contract?
- 18:12Speaker 4: Varshow has an expiring contract. He would be one. Springer.
- 18:16Speaker 4: I don't know that he'd have much value. He would
- 18:18Speaker 4: be another, and certainly Gospin would be a guy that
- 18:23Speaker 4: would get a lot of attention if they put him
- 18:25Speaker 4: out there. They also have some bullpen pieces, lesser guys
- 18:29Speaker 4: that they could trade. I'm not exactly sure what it
- 18:32Speaker 4: would look like for them, but listen, there's talent on
- 18:36Speaker 4: that team, obviously, and there are players that could be
- 18:39Speaker 4: traded and maybe bringing them something back. It's just if
- 18:42Speaker 4: you're the Blue Jays coming off a World Series bid,
- 18:46Speaker 4: a World Series appearance, it's hard to do. It's hard
- 18:49Speaker 4: to give up and say, man, we can't be that
- 18:52Speaker 4: team that we were last year, only I don't know,
- 18:54Speaker 4: nine months ago. So it's going to be really interesting
- 18:57Speaker 4: to see how they play this.
- 19:00Speaker 1: A lot of pressure, a lot of pressure. Remember last
- 19:01Speaker 1: year this time, you know, the front office there was
- 19:04Speaker 1: on the hot seat. John Schneider was on the hot seat.
- 19:06Speaker 1: And then they turned it around. I mean kind of
- 19:08Speaker 1: like the Red Sox they fired their manager. Breslo was
- 19:10Speaker 1: on the hot seat, and now here they are in
- 19:11Speaker 1: playoff contention. So it's crazy how one fourteen game winning
- 19:14Speaker 1: streak can turn everything around. Ken It really is crazy.
- 19:17Speaker 1: That's that's what that's what they're hoping for. But sho
- 19:21Speaker 1: heo Tani. Everyone's saying, oh, he's gonna win the cy
- 19:23Speaker 1: Young I kept saying he's not because he's not going
- 19:25Speaker 1: to pitch enough. He's not going to be out there enough.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Now he's skipping starts. He's got a bad left knee.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Is there a little bit of worry on the Dodgers
- 19:32Speaker 1: in that they might actually have to go out and
- 19:33Speaker 1: get more starting pitching.
- 19:36Speaker 4: There has to be some concern and there has to
- 19:38Speaker 4: be some thought of that. Now they're downplaying this. They're
- 19:41Speaker 4: saying they're just playing for the long haul. And he
- 19:44Speaker 4: was throwing I think as recently as yesterday or the
- 19:46Speaker 4: day before, even with this issue that he has, which
- 19:50Speaker 4: he said is mechanically related. He needs to figure out
- 19:52Speaker 4: how to deal with this while pitching. That said, what
- 19:56Speaker 4: is their priority, always their priority is October. So what
- 20:00Speaker 4: they want to do is get him as healthy as
- 20:02Speaker 4: possible to pitch and hit in October. It's the same
- 20:05Speaker 4: thing they're doing, just on a different scale with Snell
- 20:08Speaker 4: and with Glass. Now they're pointing all toward the postseason.
- 20:12Speaker 4: That said, could they use another starter to protect themselves. Yes,
- 20:16Speaker 4: they probably could. It's just that Andrew Friedman, their president
- 20:20Speaker 4: base Operations, hates overpaying at the deadline, and for starting
- 20:25Speaker 4: pitchers they usually have to overpay. So I don't know
- 20:28Speaker 4: how aggressive they'll be. They've got options. Eric Glower has
- 20:31Speaker 4: been really good for them. River Ryan's been up and
- 20:35Speaker 4: down in the minor leagues with a hamstring issue, but
- 20:38Speaker 4: he's rehabbing and he's apparently trending well. They can do
- 20:42Speaker 4: some things and be okay as long as they get
- 20:46Speaker 4: to the playoffs, which they will. Remember, they have this
- 20:48Speaker 4: huge cushion, so I don't know that they'll feel the urgency.
- 20:52Speaker 4: And everyone's wondering, I'm sure, Okay, what about schoogle for them?
- 20:55Speaker 4: This is what they do right, hang around the backboard,
- 20:58Speaker 4: then dunk on the entire sport. They don't necessarily want
- 21:02Speaker 4: to do that. It'll be interesting to see how aggressive
- 21:04Speaker 4: they are on it. If it becomes a thing.
- 21:08Speaker 3: I should say, yeah, yeah, how much was that knee
- 21:14Speaker 3: directly related to just pitching? The swelling in it that
- 21:18Speaker 3: they had to take down, and the mechanics because he's
- 21:21Speaker 3: still hitting and there's a lot of twisting and hitting
- 21:23Speaker 3: and you know, so there's a fear. Is there any
- 21:27Speaker 3: talk of him possibly taking a break completely or just
- 21:31Speaker 3: from the hitting and not from pitching.
- 21:34Speaker 4: I don't know how much of it relates to either
- 21:37Speaker 4: of those skills. There is talk of him not pitching
- 21:41Speaker 4: for some time. That was Dave Roberts quote. He will
- 21:43Speaker 4: not pitch for some time, taking a break from hitting.
- 21:47Speaker 4: It doesn't seem necessary, but obviously if it becomes in
- 21:51Speaker 4: a Dodger's mind something that would benefit o'tani and accelerate
- 21:55Speaker 4: the healing process here, why wouldn't they do it. They've
- 21:58Speaker 4: got this huge lead, they're not caught by anyone in
- 22:01Speaker 4: that division. All those teams are flawed in one sense
- 22:04Speaker 4: or another, so they could really act as cautiously as
- 22:08Speaker 4: they want with him. And they've taken some cautious steps
- 22:11Speaker 4: here simply by stopping and pausing the pitching. So I
- 22:15Speaker 4: don't know they answered exactly to what is causing this
- 22:18Speaker 4: and how it's playing out for him. But at the
- 22:21Speaker 4: same time, the Dodgers are going to slow play it,
- 22:23Speaker 4: and they have every ability to slow play it because
- 22:26Speaker 4: of the cushion they've built.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Ken. Thank you very much for joining us, by the way,
- 22:31Speaker 1: in case you didn't hear. I don't know if you
- 22:32Speaker 1: saw the opening the show, but I helped coach Team
- 22:35Speaker 1: USA Baseball and we went four and oh my team
- 22:37Speaker 1: did Ken, so congratulate me. Thank you for the congratulations.
- 22:41Speaker 1: And also we called the kids to the front of
- 22:44Speaker 1: the bus and we asked them their favorite team and
- 22:45Speaker 1: their favorite player. I was shocked at this. Of the
- 22:48Speaker 1: twenty two kids, we had, not one said show hey,
- 22:51Speaker 1: not one said show hey. I couldn't believe it. I
- 22:54Speaker 1: could not believe. It's not one kid. Yeah, I mean
- 22:58Speaker 1: there was.
- 22:59Speaker 4: It was.
- 22:59Speaker 1: It was. It was everybody else. It was dependent on
- 23:02Speaker 1: where they were from. Braves guys, you know, had their
- 23:05Speaker 1: braves people, you know, so the southeastern guys had their people.
- 23:07Speaker 1: There was some kids from Tampa that said some raised guys.
- 23:10Speaker 1: There were some kids from up north that had Phillies guys,
- 23:13Speaker 1: the West coast guys. Though it was, it wasn't show hey.
- 23:16Speaker 1: And I was shocked that the kids from like La
- 23:18Speaker 1: didn't say show hey.
- 23:19Speaker 4: O Tani and it is surprising and Aja, I have
- 23:22Speaker 4: to say congratulations. Obviously you're the next great manager in
- 23:25Speaker 4: Major League Baseball. After managing these.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Children, Ken Ken, They're eighteen years old. Ken I don't
- 23:32Speaker 1: understand they're not sure they can vote Ken. Okay, thank you,
- 23:36Speaker 1: Thank you, can go back to your Caesar salad. Thanks.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Hopefully we got you out on time. It's one thirty five.
- 23:42Speaker 1: And make sure you check out Ken on Fair Territory,
- 23:45Speaker 1: Mondays and Thursdays on the ft YouTube page.
