- 0:07Speaker 1: The season with Peter Schrager is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio.
- 0:28Speaker 2: It's got to be a topic there.
- 0:29Speaker 3: They have to acknowledge it. They're obviously seeing it. And
- 0:32Speaker 3: I thought Roger Goodell during his press conference earlier in
- 0:35Speaker 3: the day dismissed it as well.
- 0:37Speaker 2: It does seem.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Like you're talking about someone with a tinfoil hat and
- 0:41Speaker 3: a truther saying the league is rigging this. The league,
- 0:44Speaker 3: the script, the script, the script. But it's become this
- 0:46Speaker 3: topic that just hasn't stopped over the last seventy two hours,
- 0:49Speaker 3: especially going back if you want to go back to
- 0:52Speaker 3: last week during the game against the Buffalo Bills that said,
- 0:56Speaker 3: I had the rare opportunity to be with these guys
- 0:58Speaker 3: off Mike as we were setting up to get ready
- 1:01Speaker 3: to go on stage. I was just chatting with Mahomes
- 1:05Speaker 3: and Kelsey and Andy Reid and Harrison Butker, and this
- 1:09Speaker 3: was like the energy right here. It was just all
- 1:11Speaker 3: of us just hanging out and it's not this crazy
- 1:14Speaker 3: lights on and question and interrogation post game, and we
- 1:19Speaker 3: were talking about everything from the young guy stepping up
- 1:22Speaker 3: to what Mahomes a Mavericks fan thought of Luca and
- 1:26Speaker 3: the trade, and then Kelsey was joking around saying, dude,
- 1:29Speaker 3: I had to watch Lebron leave as a Cavs fan
- 1:32Speaker 3: and he had to come all the way back again.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Maybe Luca comes back in ten years and you guys
- 1:36Speaker 3: win with Luca and we're all laughing. But the vibe
- 1:39Speaker 3: with this Chiefs team from top to bottom because interviews
- 1:43Speaker 3: with Brett Veach and with a lot of the assistant coaches,
- 1:46Speaker 3: there is an experience and there is a hey, we've
- 1:49Speaker 3: done that, we've done this, we've been there, we've done
- 1:51Speaker 3: that type feel. But also there's different guys on this
- 1:55Speaker 3: team than in past years. Kareem Hunt is back on
- 1:58Speaker 3: this team looking for his first Super Bowl win. DeAndre
- 2:01Speaker 3: Hopkins that stuff really matters. They want to get Dap
- 2:04Speaker 3: that Lombardi Trophy, and of course you think about what
- 2:07Speaker 3: they want to achieve with historic, historic lens with this
- 2:11Speaker 3: So I feel like Kelsey put that out there, we're
- 2:14Speaker 3: fishing a barrel. We're gonna chop at that. But it
- 2:18Speaker 3: obviously is a topic. But I do think that this
- 2:21Speaker 3: team knows going into this game that there are far
- 2:24Speaker 3: greater sights than silencing the fans. About whether the refs
- 2:27Speaker 3: are helping them out. You think of him running in
- 2:30Speaker 3: the snow and slapping his helmet and yell. Yet that
- 2:33Speaker 3: isn't the dynamic of Saquon last night, And it's not
- 2:36Speaker 3: really the dynamic of Saquon off the field. Great, great
- 2:40Speaker 3: young man, obviously very composed, very calm, but like I tried,
- 2:44Speaker 3: I went to the Giants thing, he wasn't entertaining it.
- 2:47Speaker 3: There was a fan who said, you know, do you
- 2:49Speaker 3: have a message to Giants fans? It went viral in
- 2:51Speaker 3: New York because he's like, I still have a lot
- 2:53Speaker 3: of love for you, guys, I still have a lot
- 2:55Speaker 3: of feel for you. He he is locked in. And
- 2:59Speaker 3: Kyle made the point, I guess last week, Saquon's never
- 3:03Speaker 3: won it, Pop Warner, He's never woned high school, He's
- 3:05Speaker 3: never won a com and this is the furthest he's
- 3:07Speaker 3: ever gotten in an NFL season. He truly feels locked
- 3:11Speaker 3: in right now. I asked him, I said, you know,
- 3:14Speaker 3: Earl Campbell, Barry Sanders, so Danian, Tomlinson, these guys never
- 3:18Speaker 3: got to a super Bowl. Do you have a second
- 3:20Speaker 3: to even acknowledge just how far you've been. He's like
- 3:22Speaker 3: I never look at it that way. I am more
- 3:24Speaker 3: concerned about coming home with the Lombardy and then we
- 3:26Speaker 3: can look back on it after that job is done.
- 3:29Speaker 3: So he's not really enjoying the moment like we would expect.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Maybe if he's looking around and thinking, wow, I was
- 3:34Speaker 3: playing in front of an empty giant stadium last year
- 3:36Speaker 3: and look at this now.
- 3:37Speaker 2: He's not in that mind frame, Jamie. He is dialed in.
- 3:41Speaker 2: We like Miles Garrett.
- 3:42Speaker 3: He's a great ambassador for the sport. He is a
- 3:45Speaker 3: different kind of player than just all ball. He's got
- 3:48Speaker 3: interest outside of football, and he's done it the right way.
- 3:50Speaker 2: You know, he's an eight year veteran.
- 3:52Speaker 3: I thought like, wow, he's in his fifth year, six er, no,
- 3:54Speaker 3: eight years, just twenty nine years old, still can play
- 3:57Speaker 3: in the prime of his career, and I see him
- 4:00Speaker 3: as still the top pass rusher in the NFL, maybe
- 4:02Speaker 3: the most dominant. So you're telling me that he's available
- 4:07Speaker 3: and really the money and Mike hasn't gotten into all
- 4:10Speaker 3: the contracts stuff like, you know, it's a twenty five
- 4:13Speaker 3: million dollar number, which sounds like it's wild. But if
- 4:17Speaker 3: you're telling me that Nick Bosa makes more, I mean
- 4:20Speaker 3: I think Garrett's right there. If he gets traded, he'll
- 4:22Speaker 3: probably want an extension. I would think teams are gonna
- 4:25Speaker 3: line up to give a first round pick for Miles Garrett.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Then if you're a Cleveland you suddenly have the number
- 4:30Speaker 3: two overall pick, and there's this kid up, Duel Carter
- 4:32Speaker 3: coming out of Penn State. Do you do the old
- 4:35Speaker 3: Justin Jefferson move with Minnesota And that's a different caliber
- 4:38Speaker 3: of player.
- 4:38Speaker 2: But they had Stefan Diggs.
- 4:40Speaker 3: He was unhappy they moved him, and then they immediately
- 4:43Speaker 3: just drafted someone in his replacement and said, Okay, well
- 4:46Speaker 3: got rid of him. We could draft this guy, and
- 4:48Speaker 3: this guy might be better. And it was Jefferson. But
- 4:51Speaker 3: for Cleveland, what a mess. You have one of the
- 4:54Speaker 3: best players in football entering really the prime of his career,
- 4:57Speaker 3: still can do it at that level, and he's a
- 4:59Speaker 3: true ambassador of the town in the city and he's saying,
- 5:02Speaker 3: I don't want to play another down for this team.
- 5:04Speaker 2: A shame. And yet we've been down these roads before.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Okay, there's countless cliches and football talk about establishing the run.
- 5:13Speaker 3: I think has to be more than establishing the run.
- 5:15Speaker 3: I think the Eagles need to run all over the
- 5:18Speaker 3: Kansas City Chiefs, and Saquon needs to be the exact same.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Guy that he has been this entire playoff run.
- 5:25Speaker 3: If Saquon gets going and has one of these type
- 5:29Speaker 3: of games, they can beat the Chiefs.
- 5:31Speaker 2: In fact, they will beat the Chiefs.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Tak Kwon Barkley has been an absolute legend this season,
- 5:37Speaker 3: and his playoff performances have been perfectly fitting for a
- 5:41Speaker 3: regular season that was historic. He has gashed the Rams,
- 5:46Speaker 3: the Commanders, and of course in the wildcard round, got
- 5:49Speaker 3: it going when they had to win that game as well.
- 5:52Speaker 3: I'll say this about the prospect of him.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Doing this stuff.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Kyle brought this up last week and it shocked me.
- 5:59Speaker 3: It was one of the stats that I said, WHOA,
- 6:02Speaker 3: These Bagnolo's defenses don't allow teams to run the ball.
- 6:07Speaker 3: If you look at the most rushing yards versus the
- 6:09Speaker 3: Chiefs in the playoffs since twenty nineteen, that.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Is a good six year span.
- 6:16Speaker 3: No one has broken the century mark, not a single player.
- 6:20Speaker 3: I'm here saying Saquon can go for one fifty one
- 6:22Speaker 3: seventy five, two hundred, because that's.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Just what he does.
- 6:26Speaker 3: That's insulting to that defense and the Chiefs commitment to
- 6:29Speaker 3: stopping the run. I know, Mahomes and Kelsey is sexy
- 6:34Speaker 3: to talk about. I know for years it was about
- 6:36Speaker 3: Tyreek Hill, and I know in the last couple of
- 6:38Speaker 3: years it's been like, Wow, the Chiefs just always find
- 6:40Speaker 3: a way on offense. The real story of the twenty
- 6:43Speaker 3: twenty five Chiefs has been their defense. Eight sacks against
- 6:48Speaker 3: the Texans, stopping Josh Allen and James Cook when it
- 6:51Speaker 3: mattered most last time in their game in the AFC
- 6:53Speaker 3: Championship Game, and now it's going to be stopping Saquon.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Sequon's that dude. He has been going absolutely wild this season.
- 7:00Speaker 3: No one's been really able to contain him. One defense
- 7:03Speaker 3: might be able to. It's the Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas
- 7:06Speaker 3: City Chiefs Jalen Watson were number thirty five. You don't
- 7:09Speaker 3: hear his name a lot, but they look at him
- 7:11Speaker 3: as an absolute dog at the other side of Trent McDuffie.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Jalen Watson roll the footage if we got it.
- 7:18Speaker 3: I don't know if we do, but he's a Chief
- 7:19Speaker 3: stud corner, one of these young defensive backfield players.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Thank you, Jamie for a company me here.
- 7:26Speaker 3: If you're outside of Kansas City, you probably don't know
- 7:28Speaker 3: the work that Watson does in that building. Speaking with Spags,
- 7:32Speaker 3: speaking with that defensive group on Monday Night's opening night,
- 7:36Speaker 3: his name kept on coming up, Absolute stud it's mcduffy
- 7:41Speaker 3: on one side, it's him on the other.
- 7:42Speaker 2: I think he's gonna make a play.
- 7:44Speaker 3: He's gonna have to cover either DeVonta Smith or of
- 7:46Speaker 3: course AJ Brown, and he's gonna make a play.
- 7:48Speaker 2: That is my game changer, the name that no one's
- 7:51Speaker 2: talking about.
- 7:52Speaker 3: And I think there's gonna have to be another option
- 7:54Speaker 3: besides Kelsey. And in recent weeks we've seen players like
- 7:57Speaker 3: Xavier Worthy step up and make plays in Kareem Hunt. Sure,
- 8:00Speaker 3: but I'm looking at a three time First Team All
- 8:03Speaker 3: Pro and a potential Hall of Famer who who is
- 8:06Speaker 3: thirty two years old and embarking upon his first Super
- 8:09Speaker 3: Bowl appearance. Sunday afternoon, as everyone was flying into New Orleans,
- 8:13Speaker 3: this tweet ran across my timeline and I had to
- 8:16Speaker 3: share it with the show. This is from DeAndre Hopkins
- 8:19Speaker 3: as he was getting ready to prepare for his first
- 8:22Speaker 3: ever Super Bowl week.
- 8:23Speaker 2: To all the kids out.
- 8:24Speaker 3: There living in small towns and small houses with single parents,
- 8:27Speaker 3: to the kids who see violence, who see loss, who
- 8:29Speaker 3: don't get the resources that deserve, but who still have
- 8:31Speaker 3: big dreams.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Know that I was a kid in your.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Exact shoes, and this week I'm playing in the super Bowl.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Don't give up, work hard, keep believing where you start
- 8:41Speaker 3: doesn't determine where you end. And there was another moment
- 8:44Speaker 3: from DeAndre thoughtful, introspective Monday Night's opening night. Brandon Marshall,
- 8:49Speaker 3: the former wide receiver, is having fun with the Chiefs
- 8:52Speaker 3: players and says, hey, you're a really fashionable guy.
- 8:55Speaker 2: What are you going to wear to the super Bowl?
- 8:57Speaker 3: And DeAndre Hopkins, who is so introspective now and is
- 9:00Speaker 3: such a just a man of confidence but also one
- 9:04Speaker 3: with his truthest feeling, says, my dad died in nineteen
- 9:07Speaker 3: ninety two. He was five months old and his father
- 9:10Speaker 3: passed away and left him just a few belongings and
- 9:13Speaker 3: one of them was a vintage mink coat.
- 9:16Speaker 2: A vintage mink coat, and.
- 9:17Speaker 3: DeAndre Hopkins said, I always said I'll only get to
- 9:20Speaker 3: wear that thing if I am getting to the super
- 9:23Speaker 3: Bowl or if it's my wedding day. Well, I'm not
- 9:26Speaker 3: getting married anytime soon, so DeAndre Hopkins is going to
- 9:29Speaker 3: be rocking his late father's mink coat as he walks
- 9:33Speaker 3: into Super Bowl Sunday, and he brought it with him
- 9:36Speaker 3: down here to New Orleans.
- 9:38Speaker 2: This is all very very real.
- 9:41Speaker 3: For Hopkins thirty two years old. I'm not saying it's
- 9:44Speaker 3: his last stop, but this was a guy who was
- 9:46Speaker 3: a first team All Pro from twenty seventeen to twenty nineteen.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Has bounced around the league the last few years, and
- 9:51Speaker 3: he hasn't had that mega game for the.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Chiefs just yet. But when I tell you speaking.
- 9:55Speaker 3: To the players on Monday night about the other guys,
- 9:59Speaker 3: DeAndre Hopkins' name keeps on coming up as a player
- 10:02Speaker 3: that they're not only playing four, but as a player
- 10:04Speaker 3: who can lead them to the ms land one more time.
- 10:08Speaker 2: It's a different Chiefs team than other years.
- 10:10Speaker 3: DeAndre Hopkins is one of those reasons why an incredible story.
- 10:14Speaker 3: He's gonna be rocking the MiG coat from his late father,
- 10:17Speaker 3: and I think he's going to have to play a
- 10:18Speaker 3: big game if the Chiefs are going to get by
- 10:20Speaker 3: the Eagles on Sunday. I look at the Chiefs and
- 10:24Speaker 3: I look at Kelsey and Mahomes, and when they first
- 10:26Speaker 3: got together in twenty seventeen, and the first really started
- 10:29Speaker 3: playing in twenty eighteen they were still finding themselves, and
- 10:31Speaker 3: then twenty nineteen on it has been.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Hit after hit after hit after hit.
- 10:35Speaker 3: They have defined that generation. They've also grown. I say,
- 10:39Speaker 3: Boys to Men are Kelsey and Mahomes. You think about
- 10:43Speaker 3: the nineties, and you think about it started with Motown Philly,
- 10:46Speaker 3: so you had just a little taste of it in
- 10:48Speaker 3: ninety one, and then in ninety two they come out
- 10:51Speaker 3: end of the Road and then it's all make love
- 10:53Speaker 3: to you.
- 10:53Speaker 2: It's one sweet day. It's of course on bended knee.
- 10:56Speaker 2: I mean, there's just hit after hit after hit.
- 10:58Speaker 3: I look at these guys and the irony is I
- 11:00Speaker 3: went Kansas City Chiefs for Boys to Men, not Philadelphia
- 11:04Speaker 3: Yearshladelphia Roots. I just think about the group of a
- 11:10Speaker 3: generation for me in the nineties was Boys to Men
- 11:13Speaker 3: and they spanned the entire decade.
- 11:15Speaker 2: And then the team of a generation for this current
- 11:17Speaker 2: era are these guys. So that is it.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Of course, we can go a million different directions with
- 11:22Speaker 3: which Boys to Men's song best describes the canvasity chase.
- 11:25Speaker 3: But I'll let that up to you guys. And hopefully
- 11:27Speaker 3: it's not end up the road.
