- 0:15Good afternoon wonderful explorers welcome to
- 0:18another episode of the psyche explorer with me
- 0:20Matt Morris. I hope you are well I hope this
- 0:23day whatever day you're listening to this on
- 0:26Finds you well finds you bright finds you beautiful.
- 0:30I am sat on a beach. Well, I'm actually sat behind
- 0:34it's in Sanju because I It felt cool to visit
- 0:38today. I've had the past couple of days off because
- 0:41of a bad back. I think it's an occupational hazard.
- 0:44I've had this a couple of times over the past
- 0:48year or so where my lower back just gives way
- 0:50and I hobble around like an old man. I know I'm
- 0:52in my 40s now, but still I feel I'm a little
- 0:55bit too young to use a stick. Although some of
- 0:58the themes I've had over the past couple of days,
- 1:00I could really have you use a stick to help me
- 1:02get around. And I woke up today and I thought,
- 1:04ooh. I feel so much better. I feel like I can
- 1:08move and walk without, I don't know, my vertebrae
- 1:11reverberating up my back in painful shards. So
- 1:17I thought, I'm going to come to the beach. And
- 1:19I knew I was going to take my recording stuff.
- 1:22And if you can hear the wind in the background,
- 1:24I do apologize. My microphone I plugged in actually
- 1:27makes it sound much worse. So I'm just recording
- 1:29this live on my phone. And I'm hoping the sound
- 1:33quality will be okay. But I was driving here
- 1:37and I was listening to a podcast as I do and
- 1:40I was listening to this guy and he was saying
- 1:42that practice is so important and for him meditating
- 1:48every single day like two or three times a day
- 1:50to pull a card, pull tarot cards or oracle cards
- 1:55regularly is really important to him. He has
- 1:58quite a rigorous set of rituals that he goes
- 2:01through. He was also talking about research and
- 2:06study, and he was saying you must always study,
- 2:08you must always learn more. And as I was driving
- 2:13to this beautiful beach that I am on, driving
- 2:18along country roads, narrow, windy country roads,
- 2:25I thought, I don't do any of this, and the thought
- 2:29struck me. Am I a bad psychic? or just a lazy
- 2:35one. I really want you to help me out on this
- 2:40one. I'd love some feedback. Am I the only one
- 2:44out there who doesn't do any of this sort of
- 2:46stuff, who doesn't do the rituals, who doesn't
- 2:50meditate every single day, who listens to the
- 2:53occasional podcast, but I'm such a bad lazy reader,
- 2:58like I listen to a couple of shows and they're
- 3:00always recommending new books. I love reading,
- 3:05but I really need to be in the mood for it, and
- 3:06I'm very rarely in the mood for it. I find TikTok
- 3:14Live utterly horrendous. For anyone who's just
- 3:20seen the recent story that I put on, I've only
- 3:22just discovered TikTok Live. My word. My word.
- 3:26That's all I can say. Wow. And I'll talk about
- 3:31that in another episode, I think, because that
- 3:32was pretty shocking, the stuff that I saw on
- 3:34there. But podcasts do resonate with me. Well
- 3:39-crafted podcasts do listen. Sorry, not do listen.
- 3:46Sorry, I got distracted there slightly. It's
- 3:50a danger of recording on my phone. I got a text
- 3:55message from Amazon delivery. Sorry, I had to
- 4:00reply to that quickly. Now, what do I mean by
- 4:04lazy? I don't mean that as a criticism. I don't
- 4:07mean that to say that I don't care, that I am
- 4:15not fussed. I'm nonchalant about this. I think
- 4:17the fact that I put these episodes out every
- 4:19two weeks shows that this is a big part of my
- 4:23life. I go to circles regularly. shows I am committed
- 4:28to this, but I have to be honest, I maybe don't
- 4:34put as much effort into this as possible, but
- 4:36then I also need to remember that when I'm living
- 4:38a life, I'm human, and I've said this many a
- 4:41time before, we are here to live lives, we are
- 4:44here to have life -y lives, and we're here to
- 4:48be human, we are human. So what does my practice
- 4:51actually look like? Every Wednesday, I go to
- 4:56Nicola Gigi's circle. She was on episode 12,
- 4:59I believe it was. I thoroughly recommend you
- 5:02go back and listen to episode 12 with Nicola
- 5:05Gigi. She talks about circles, she talks about
- 5:08her development and how, what striking was how
- 5:13everyone's development is different. She found
- 5:17a mentor and she stuck with that mentor for like...
- 5:20I think it was like 10, 15 years before she even
- 5:23stepped into a circle. So every Wednesday I go
- 5:27to her circle. Most Sundays I try and go to Dana
- 5:32Willey's City in the Power meditation. And there's
- 5:37also another online open circle that I try to
- 5:40do at least once a week. I try and get on a few
- 5:44more if I... have a week like I have this week
- 5:46where I've been off ill or I've been off or I'm
- 5:49not working, I've rained off maybe. And that
- 5:51is the higher house circle. That can be found
- 5:54on Facebook. It's a good space to practice because
- 5:59there are people from all over the world there.
- 6:02Apart from that, that's about it. I don't meditate
- 6:07very often. I try and squeeze in a meditation
- 6:10before I go to bed once or twice a week. but
- 6:13I invariably fall asleep and my other half comes
- 6:16to bed, phones me with my headphones on, slack
- 6:19-jawed asleep sitting up on the bed with a bit,
- 6:26maybe a bit of drool coming out of my mouth.
- 6:28There you go, a bit of a mental image for you
- 6:30to try and erase. Do I read? No, not really.
- 6:36I really wish I did. I've got several books on
- 6:39the psychic and mediumship work and spirituality.
- 6:44Do I read them? No, no, I don't. Do I listen
- 6:47to podcasts? Yes, that is something I do. I regularly
- 6:50listen to many podcasts. Apart from that, though,
- 6:55I don't really do much else. You see these online,
- 6:58though, and I listen to people and it... You'd
- 7:01be forgiven for thinking they were constantly
- 7:04plugged in, they were constantly meditating,
- 7:06they were constantly reading, they were constantly
- 7:10practicing. I just don't think it's realistic,
- 7:13if I'm honest. There does seem to be this pressure,
- 7:20and whether this pressure is self -imposed, which
- 7:22I've spoken about many times before, or whether
- 7:26you feel this pressure as well, that... We as
- 7:30practitioners, or yeah, practitioners, straight
- 7:35away I use that word and I pause because I'm
- 7:37not giving people like page readings. I'm not
- 7:41someone who goes out there and does this for
- 7:44a living. Am I a practitioner? Well, yes. Yes,
- 7:47I am. So you, if you are practicing any form
- 7:50of spirituality, then you are a practitioner
- 7:52as well. And I implore you to give yourself that
- 7:56permission to say that. But as I'm listening
- 8:03to this podcast on the way to this speech today,
- 8:07there is a sense of, oh, I'm not good enough.
- 8:10Oh, I'm doing it wrong. Because this person has
- 8:13their podcast and they're telling me that they
- 8:16do it in a certain way. And if I need to improve,
- 8:18if I want to improve, I've got to do it in a
- 8:20certain way. And that's not healthy, is it? It's
- 8:24really not. Forcing you to go... forcing you
- 8:31to practice in a certain way, encouraging you
- 8:37to practice in a certain way, because no one's
- 8:39forcing you to do anything, but encouraging you,
- 8:45framing things in a way that if you don't do
- 8:48this, then X, Y and Z is not going to happen.
- 8:54That's not healthy, that's not good. This needs
- 8:59to be natural. Everyone is different. Everyone
- 9:02practices in a different way. I read people in
- 9:04a different way to how you might read people.
- 9:07Your practice can be very vastly different to
- 9:10mine and that's okay because forcing your practice
- 9:14down a route that is not natural to you is only
- 9:18going to, I suspect, is only going to delay your
- 9:23development, is only going to... make you feel
- 9:26more rigid is going to make you feel uncomfortable.
- 9:33And as uncomfortable as sometimes this work is,
- 9:37especially when you get nose, especially when
- 9:39you feel like you're falling flat on your face,
- 9:42you need to deep down have the confidence to
- 9:48know that you're doing it your way. I came here
- 10:07today. I've been thinking the past couple of
- 10:10days, if I can feel like I can walk around without
- 10:15the need of a stick, then I will come to the
- 10:19beach. And maybe, and this is not something I
- 10:24do regularly, you know, the beach is 20 minutes
- 10:27from my home. I very rarely come here, and if
- 10:30I normally come here in the winter because in
- 10:32the summer it is jam packed full of tourists.
- 10:35so I avoid it like the plague. But I've come
- 10:38here today on this April spring day. Hopefully
- 10:42you can hear the birds in the background singing,
- 10:45the waves in the background crashing against
- 10:47the beach. And I'll post some pictures on my
- 10:53Instagram. But I just woke up this morning, I
- 11:01knew I needed to come here. And I followed that
- 11:04tug. I pulled on that string that was tugging
- 11:09me. I followed it to the beach. And maybe this
- 11:13is my sort of ritual. Maybe this is my ritual.
- 11:15I don't need to burn incense. I don't need to
- 11:19pull a daily card. I don't need to meditate every
- 11:22single day. Because just following my intuition
- 11:27and doing what I feel like I want to do... and
- 11:31I have a free day is a ritual in itself. It's
- 11:36my kind of ritual. I wonder if I'm a slightly
- 11:50lazy because I'm also a massive procrastinator.
- 11:54I'm the world's biggest procrastinator. If a
- 11:58bill needs paying, a credit card, whatever it
- 12:03might be, I will put it off and put it off and
- 12:05put it off and put it off until the very last
- 12:07minute that I have to. And even then, I've been
- 12:14known to still put it off. I spoke to you in
- 12:23my last solo episode about mentorship. As I speak,
- 12:28nothing has happened on that front yet. I've
- 12:29reached out to a couple of people and I've not
- 12:34really chased anything up because of my procrastination.
- 12:40And I sit here and I wonder, well, actually,
- 12:42when does waiting for it to come, when does that
- 12:47procrastination become avoidance? And I have
- 12:50to remind myself that sometimes... The phrase
- 12:54my mum used to use all the time was, you need
- 12:57to be in the driving seat of your own life. You
- 12:59need to get in the driving seat, Matt. I'm guilty
- 13:03of not doing enough of that, that I just wait
- 13:10for it to happen. I need to be more proactive
- 13:15in that. I need to be more active in that. Even
- 13:21the naturally gifted musicians still need to
- 13:25practice. And that's not me saying that I'm an
- 13:27incredible medium or anything like that. That's
- 13:29not... It's just fact that everyone needs to
- 13:33practice. Everyone needs to... You can't just
- 13:37say you're a medium and do it. You need to practice.
- 13:40You need to hone your skill. I need to remind
- 13:45myself I need to do that more often rather than
- 13:48just hoping it's going to happen. I also put
- 13:53things off because of time. You know, I sat there
- 13:57most nights with my other half on the sofa and
- 14:00there is this guilt I feel that if I take myself
- 14:02to go and practice, to go and meditate, to go
- 14:05and do some online circle, I'm neglecting Simon
- 14:09that I'm not spending enough time with him. And
- 14:15if you feel that, trust me, you are not alone.
- 14:17I feel it with you, especially when that other
- 14:21half doesn't get it on the same level as I do.
- 14:24And they're supportive. He wants me to do it.
- 14:27He's happy for me to do it. But at the same time,
- 14:31he doesn't quite get it. And that's fine. That's
- 14:34absolutely fine. But actually... As I lean into
- 14:38that, my dear listener, I think, well, actually,
- 14:41when I do go and practice, when I do go and do
- 14:44this stuff, it's when I really want it, it's
- 14:46when I really need it. And remember my episode
- 14:50about meditation. The meditation doesn't have
- 14:53to be sitting cross -legged on a yoga mat saying
- 14:58om. Meditation can be anything you like. It can
- 15:03be gardening. It can be watching your kids sleep.
- 15:10It can be something that is repetitive. I personally
- 15:17find power washing really necessary. When a client
- 15:20says to me, Matt, can you please jet wash my
- 15:23patio? Yes, absolutely I can. It is the most
- 15:26therapeutic piece of gardening help I can give
- 15:30a client because just something about watching.
- 15:34a jet of water, clean, a grubby, mossy patio
- 15:39slab into something shiny and pretty. Oh, there's
- 15:42something beautiful about it. So meditation doesn't
- 15:45have to be this going upstairs and sitting in
- 15:48the power and doing whatever it can be. Something
- 15:54else, and that something else can be whatever
- 15:56you want it to be, as long as it is calming,
- 16:00it quiets your mind. Maybe that is just watching
- 16:03TV, just switching off, just going off into a
- 16:05La La Land. Maybe that's reading. Maybe that
- 16:09is listening to music for you. I invite you to
- 16:15think about your own version of your practice.
- 16:21Do you feel under pressure to do more? Again,
- 16:26using that phrase that I'm at risk of overusing
- 16:29here. Is it self -imposed guilt that you don't
- 16:33do enough? Do you do too much? There's that spectrum,
- 16:37there is that opposite spectrum. I'd love to
- 16:41know, I'd love to hear what your thoughts are
- 16:43on this. It's only going to be a short one today.
- 16:47I'm going to end this episode with one small
- 16:50commitment, a little low effort experiment for
- 16:53the next few weeks. I'm not trying to become
- 16:56a disciplined spiritual practitioner. at all,
- 16:59I'm just gonna try one tiny thing to see if it
- 17:04changes anything at all. And that thing, oh this
- 17:11is gonna be painful, oh okay, well I'm gonna
- 17:13do it. I'm gonna set my alarm for 15 minutes
- 17:19earlier than normal. So I'm gonna set my alarm
- 17:23for 6 45 a .m. I'm going to get up and I'm going
- 17:28to do a meditation. Five, ten minute meditation
- 17:31every morning until my next solo episode. And
- 17:36I'm going to see if that makes any difference
- 17:39whatsoever. So, my dear listeners, I'm throwing
- 17:45this out to you as well. Is there anything that
- 17:48you feel you need to do more of? Is there anything
- 17:50you feel you need to do less of? Is there anything
- 17:54that you feel guilt? or pressure into not doing
- 17:58enough of. Come back, and I'll tell you if I
- 18:02actually did it. It's all very well saying it,
- 18:06but I've got to do it. So yes, so starting...
- 18:10God, do I do it on the weekends as well or do
- 18:11I just do weekdays? What should I do? I really
- 18:14like a line on the weekends. I'll tell you what,
- 18:18weekends I will find... extra space, an extra
- 18:21slot of time to do a five minute meditation and
- 18:24on the weekdays I will set my alarm for 15 minutes
- 18:27earlier to get up and do a meditation. So are
- 18:33you a lazy psychic? Do you have a practice or
- 18:37do you just wait for things to arrive? Tell me
- 18:41which one are you and Is there something that
- 18:45we can do together? Is there a meditation that
- 18:48we can do daily together? Are there cards that
- 18:52we can pull each day? If there's something we
- 18:54can do together, then I'd love to know. Reach
- 18:57out to me. You can find me at the .psychic .explorer.
- 19:01Instagram, Facebook, threads, and TikTok. Let
- 19:04me know. I'd love to hear your thoughts. I'm
- 19:08gonna draw this episode to a close. The next
- 19:11guest episode is the wonderful Kelsey Anderson.
- 19:14You've heard me talk about her a couple of times.
- 19:16She came on to talk about travel, actually, and
- 19:20this is sort of before I have my... Right, I
- 19:22wanted to do a reset. We recorded it before I
- 19:26have my little reset of just talking about people's
- 19:29journeys. But actually, I think travel and journeys
- 19:31is so relevant that... Her conversation is really
- 19:38lovely. I really enjoyed it. So I'll be going
- 19:40out in two weeks' time, so listen out for that.
- 19:44And I wish you, my dear listener, all the very
- 19:48best at exploring on your path, on your travel.
- 19:51And I'll leave you with the sounds of the Norfolk
- 19:54Coast, sending all my love. Take care, guys.
- 19:58Bye.
