- 0:00Speaker 1: New Today.
- 0:01Speaker 2: In a confusing new social media post, President Trump appears
- 0:04Speaker 2: to be comparing himself to former President Obama. On Saturday,
- 0:08Speaker 2: Trump posted these side by side photos of him and
- 0:11Speaker 2: his predecessor when they were young. This comes just days
- 0:14Speaker 2: after Obama criticized Trump for spending too much time talking
- 0:18Speaker 2: about him instead of focusing on the major issues affecting
- 0:21Speaker 2: this country.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Fuck you, you got to ask him what it is
- 0:26Speaker 3: that the.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Obsession?
- 0:29Speaker 3: The obsession, I know what it is, Yeah, I obviously
- 0:32Speaker 3: you know.
- 0:33Speaker 1: I have a room in his rent free as a suite.
- 0:37Speaker 1: The idea that I'd be worrying about.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Came before, somebody who came before, and me trying to
- 0:42Speaker 3: measure it, you know, like, what's he done today? It
- 0:45Speaker 3: shows me somebody who's not focused on the American people
- 0:48Speaker 3: and the job they're supposed to do.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Let's bring in my best weekend friend, Reverend El Sharpton,
- 0:55Speaker 2: president of the National Action Network and host of MS
- 0:57Speaker 2: now is Politics Nation of the fact that Obama was
- 1:01Speaker 2: laughing there, because it's just the whole thing is just nuts.
- 1:05Speaker 2: The sweet that he seems to occupy. What are your
- 1:08Speaker 2: thoughts about that and why Obama is even addressing it?
- 1:11Speaker 1: Because he usually stays above the fray.
- 1:14Speaker 4: Well, my thoughts are that President Trump cannot get over
- 1:19Speaker 4: the fact that he had to succeed a man that
- 1:23Speaker 4: clearly had more ability, background, a sense of.
- 1:30Speaker 2: President presidential exactly.
- 1:32Speaker 4: Sense of presidential behavior, and could handle pressure in a
- 1:37Speaker 4: calm way that he can, and was better educated, better
- 1:42Speaker 4: background in terms of he coming from nothing and achieving something,
- 1:46Speaker 4: and he's black, and all of the things that Trump
- 1:50Speaker 4: has tried to represent in life. And I've fought with
- 1:53Speaker 4: him for years. Trump when he's a private citizen, Obama.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Has proven to be wrong the things.
- 2:01Speaker 4: That he stood for that he tried to play to
- 2:04Speaker 4: the American public and the business community. Here one way,
- 2:09Speaker 4: Obama proves that with some effort and with doors open.
- 2:13Speaker 1: People can achieve something.
- 2:15Speaker 4: So everything Trump really has built his life around as
- 2:18Speaker 4: a businessman and then as a political figure, Obama has
- 2:23Speaker 4: proven to be wrong, so that he just can't live
- 2:27Speaker 4: with that. And I think the reason President Obama addressed it,
- 2:31Speaker 4: he was, you know, the question was raised about it.
- 2:34Speaker 1: He just opened his library and I was there.
- 2:38Speaker 4: He doesn't even talk about Trump in private. I've been
- 2:41Speaker 4: around President Obama for the last several years on many occasions,
- 2:45Speaker 4: even social occasions. Sometimes I've never heard him say anything
- 2:49Speaker 4: about Trump. But Trump must find a way to attack Obama.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I mean, if there is.
- 2:55Speaker 4: A glee club, Yeah, if it's a glee club contest
- 3:00Speaker 4: and one choie wins over another, he'll mention Obama. I
- 3:05Speaker 4: mean there's some obsession there, and I think he's deeply
- 3:09Speaker 4: rooted from him growing up in Jamaica, States all the
- 3:12Speaker 4: way to now. He never got over an insecurity and
- 3:15Speaker 4: Obama brings that out of him the site.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Being President of the United States and duly elected two times,
- 3:21Speaker 2: just like Obama. Well, let's talk about, speaking of elections,
- 3:25Speaker 2: the Democrats and the Democratic Socialists here in New York
- 3:28Speaker 2: City which enjoyed major wins. Look at these three. All
- 3:31Speaker 2: three of them were backed by Mayor Mom Donnie. They
- 3:34Speaker 2: won their primary elections barring any other political surprises. In fact,
- 3:38Speaker 2: they will likely win in November. Right, They're going to
- 3:40Speaker 2: join the one hundred and one hundred and twentieth Congress in January.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Does this give you a sense an idea of where
- 3:47Speaker 2: the party is going? I mean you have to wonder,
- 3:50Speaker 2: is this just a New York City phenomenon. New York
- 3:52Speaker 2: City may have a different makeup than the majority of
- 3:55Speaker 2: the rest of the country, or at least those places
- 3:57Speaker 2: between the coasts, or do you think this is something
- 4:00Speaker 2: that will fly nationwide.
- 4:01Speaker 4: I think it is indicative of a feeling of a
- 4:04Speaker 4: lot of voters that they want to see some change
- 4:07Speaker 4: in terms of.
- 4:09Speaker 1: What is to be the issues.
- 4:11Speaker 4: Affordability is a concern the whole international forays being too
- 4:17Speaker 4: close to one side as opposed to another when we're
- 4:21Speaker 4: looking at obvious atrocities.
- 4:24Speaker 1: And I think that the.
- 4:26Speaker 4: Democratic Socialist DSA has been able to speak the issues
- 4:30Speaker 4: that challenges the party that they must address. But I
- 4:35Speaker 4: don't think that it is the earthquake that everyone says
- 4:40Speaker 4: because they're people even in New York, or that one
- 4:44Speaker 4: or dissembly candidate in the same district that the DSA
- 4:48Speaker 4: congressional candidate won he.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Kept his seat.
- 4:52Speaker 4: So I think that it is a wake up call,
- 4:55Speaker 4: it is not a uniform dismissal.
- 4:58Speaker 1: And I think that it is good for.
- 5:00Speaker 4: The party because there needs to find some balance between
- 5:04Speaker 4: those that are saying, remember how average Americans are living,
- 5:08Speaker 4: remember working class people, and it must be this balance.
- 5:12Speaker 4: And I think that leaders of the party like Hakeem
- 5:15Speaker 4: Jeffers will seek to try to find that balance. Sometimes
- 5:19Speaker 4: it's not the it's sometimes it's the antithesis and the
- 5:23Speaker 4: thesis that finds the synthesis
