• 2:27
  Today,
• 2:28
  I
• 2:28
  wanted
• 2:28
  to
• 2:28
  talk
• 2:28
  about
• 2:30
  making
• 2:30
  your
• 2:30
  air
• 2:30
  quality
• 2:31
  better
• 2:31
  in
• 2:32
  the
• 2:32
  winter
• 2:32
  months.
• 2:33
  Inside
• 2:33
  air
• 2:34
  quality.
• 2:34
  When
• 2:34
  we're
• 2:34
  stuck
• 2:35
  inside,
• 2:36
  the
• 2:36
  weather's
• 2:36
  bad
• 2:37
  is
• 2:37
  a
• 2:37
  really
• 2:37
  important
• 2:38
  thing.
• 2:39
  So
• 2:39
  let's
• 2:39
  talk
• 2:40
  about
• 2:40
  this
• 2:40
  a
• 2:40
  little
• 2:41
  bit
• 2:41
  today.
• 2:42
  Now,
• 2:43
  one
• 2:43
  of
• 2:43
  the
• 2:44
  things
• 2:44
  first
• 2:44
  that
• 2:44
  I
• 2:44
  want
• 2:45
  to
• 2:45
  talk
• 2:45
  about
• 2:45
  is
• 2:45
  indoor
• 2:46
  air
• 2:46
  quality
• 2:46
  testing.
• 2:47
  And
• 2:47
  it
• 2:47
  doesn't
• 2:48
  matter
• 2:48
  if
• 2:48
  you've
• 2:48
  got
• 2:48
  a
• 2:48
  new
• 2:49
  house
• 2:49
  or
• 2:49
  an
• 2:49
  old
• 2:49
  house,
• 2:50
  that's
• 2:50
  really
• 2:50
  where
• 2:51
  you
• 2:51
  start.
• 2:52
  And
• 2:52
  there's
• 2:52
  a
• 2:52
  lot
• 2:52
  of
• 2:53
  different
• 2:53
  ways
• 2:53
  you
• 2:53
  can
• 2:53
  do
• 2:54
  that.
• 2:54
  There's
• 2:54
  companies
• 2:54
  that,
• 2:55
  that
• 2:55
  you
• 2:55
  can
• 2:55
  hire
• 2:55
  to
• 2:55
  come
• 2:56
  in.
• 2:56
  You
• 2:56
  can
• 2:57
  get
• 2:57
  ahold
• 2:57
  of
• 2:57
  my
• 2:58
  friend
• 2:58
  Carolyn
• 2:58
  Blazowski's
• 3:00
  company
• 3:00
  and
• 3:01
  she
• 3:01
  can
• 3:01
  of
• 3:02
  course,
• 3:02
  send
• 3:02
  out
• 3:02
  an
• 3:03
  air
• 3:03
  testing
• 3:03
  kit
• 3:04
  to
• 3:04
  you.
• 3:04
  And
• 3:05
  these
• 3:05
  are
• 3:05
  all
• 3:05
  things
• 3:06
  that
• 3:06
  you
• 3:06
  can
• 3:06
  do.
• 3:06
  And
• 3:06
  I'll
• 3:07
  put
• 3:07
  down
• 3:07
  in
• 3:08
  the
• 3:08
  notes
• 3:08
  down
• 3:08
  there
• 3:09
  where
• 3:09
  you
• 3:09
  can
• 3:09
  find
• 3:10
  her
• 3:10
  website
• 3:11
  to
• 3:11
  get
• 3:11
  that
• 3:11
  air
• 3:12
  quality
• 3:12
  test.
• 3:12
  And
• 3:12
  this
• 3:13
  is
• 3:13
  really
• 3:14
  where
• 3:14
  you
• 3:14
  want
• 3:14
  to
• 3:15
  start
• 3:15
  trying
• 3:15
  to
• 3:16
  figure
• 3:16
  out
• 3:16
  what's
• 3:17
  with
• 3:17
  your
• 3:17
  air.
• 3:17
  Is
• 3:18
  it
• 3:18
  Good?
• 3:18
  Is
• 3:18
  it
• 3:18
  bad?
• 3:19
  How
• 3:19
  is
• 3:19
  it
• 3:20
  now?
• 3:20
  They
• 3:20
  do
• 3:20
  make
• 3:20
  a
• 3:20
  lot
• 3:21
  of
• 3:21
  different
• 3:21
  sensors
• 3:22
  you
• 3:22
  could
• 3:22
  put
• 3:22
  in
• 3:23
  that'll
• 3:23
  give
• 3:23
  you
• 3:23
  real
• 3:23
  time,
• 3:24
  that'll
• 3:24
  give
• 3:24
  you
• 3:24
  some
• 3:25
  information.
• 3:26
  And
• 3:26
  that's
• 3:27
  key,
• 3:27
  is
• 3:27
  to
• 3:28
  figure
• 3:28
  out
• 3:28
  what
• 3:28
  you've
• 3:28
  got
• 3:29
  going
• 3:29
  on.
• 3:29
  Because
• 3:30
  there's
• 3:30
  a
• 3:30
  lot
• 3:30
  of
• 3:30
  things
• 3:31
  that
• 3:31
  can
• 3:31
  be
• 3:31
  going
• 3:31
  on
• 3:31
  in
• 3:31
  your
• 3:32
  air
• 3:32
  now
• 3:33
  in
• 3:33
  your
• 3:33
  home
• 3:33
  if
• 3:33
  you've
• 3:34
  got
• 3:34
  an
• 3:34
  older
• 3:34
  house.
• 3:35
  Those
• 3:35
  houses
• 3:36
  were
• 3:36
  designed
• 3:36
  to
• 3:36
  breathe
• 3:37
  and
• 3:38
  you
• 3:38
  didn't
• 3:38
  have
• 3:39
  as
• 3:39
  active
• 3:40
  ventilation
• 3:41
  systems.
• 3:42
  Nowadays,
• 3:42
  when
• 3:42
  we
• 3:42
  build
• 3:43
  a
• 3:43
  brand
• 3:43
  new
• 3:43
  house
• 3:43
  that
• 3:43
  is
• 3:44
  airtight,
• 3:45
  we've
• 3:45
  gotta
• 3:45
  have
• 3:46
  different
• 3:46
  things
• 3:46
  like
• 3:47
  ERV
• 3:47
  systems,
• 3:48
  which
• 3:48
  are
• 3:48
  energy
• 3:49
  recovery
• 3:49
  ventilators,
• 3:50
  where
• 3:51
  you're
• 3:51
  bringing
• 3:51
  in
• 3:52
  outside
• 3:52
  unconditioned
• 3:53
  air
• 3:53
  conditioning
• 3:54
  it
• 3:54
  and
• 3:54
  putting
• 3:54
  inside
• 3:55
  so
• 3:55
  you
• 3:55
  have
• 3:55
  fresh
• 3:55
  air.
• 3:56
  So
• 3:56
  that's
• 3:57
  key.
• 3:58
  And
• 3:58
  so
• 3:58
  one
• 3:58
  of
• 3:58
  the
• 3:58
  things,
• 3:58
  when
• 3:59
  you
• 3:59
  do
• 3:59
  an
• 3:59
  air
• 3:59
  test
• 3:59
  that
• 4:00
  I
• 4:00
  like
• 4:00
  to
• 4:00
  see
• 4:00
  is
• 4:01
  free
• 4:01
  to
• 4:01
  run
• 4:01
  the
• 4:01
  test
• 4:02
  inside
• 4:02
  and
• 4:02
  outside.
• 4:03
  So
• 4:03
  sometimes
• 4:04
  your
• 4:04
  air
• 4:04
  quality
• 4:05
  can
• 4:05
  be
• 4:05
  worse
• 4:05
  outside.
• 4:06
  If
• 4:06
  you're
• 4:06
  next
• 4:06
  to
• 4:06
  a
• 4:07
  freeway
• 4:07
  or
• 4:08
  next
• 4:08
  to
• 4:09
  something
• 4:09
  that
• 4:09
  has
• 4:09
  lower
• 4:10
  air
• 4:10
  quality,
• 4:10
  or
• 4:11
  you've
• 4:11
  just
• 4:11
  got
• 4:11
  a
• 4:11
  swamp
• 4:12
  or
• 4:12
  something
• 4:12
  like
• 4:12
  that,
• 4:12
  where
• 4:13
  you've
• 4:13
  got
• 4:13
  lots
• 4:13
  of
• 4:13
  mold
• 4:14
  and
• 4:14
  mildew
• 4:15
  and
• 4:15
  things
• 4:15
  like
• 4:15
  that,
• 4:15
  sometimes
• 4:16
  the
• 4:16
  air
• 4:16
  quality
• 4:16
  can
• 4:17
  be
• 4:17
  worse
• 4:17
  outside
• 4:17
  than
• 4:17
  you
• 4:18
  have
• 4:18
  inside.
• 4:18
  So
• 4:18
  then
• 4:18
  maybe
• 4:19
  ventilating
• 4:20
  and
• 4:20
  bringing
• 4:20
  in
• 4:21
  air
• 4:21
  from
• 4:21
  outside
• 4:21
  isn't
• 4:22
  great
• 4:22
  without
• 4:22
  some
• 4:23
  kind
• 4:23
  of
• 4:23
  filtration
• 4:23
  system.
• 4:24
  But
• 4:25
  really
• 4:25
  the
• 4:25
  things
• 4:26
  that
• 4:26
  you're
• 4:26
  looking
• 4:26
  for
• 4:27
  are
• 4:27
  like
• 4:27
  VOCs.
• 4:28
  And
• 4:28
  VOCs
• 4:29
  are
• 4:29
  volatile
• 4:30
  organic
• 4:30
  compounds.
• 4:31
  Those
• 4:31
  can
• 4:32
  be
• 4:32
  found
• 4:32
  in
• 4:32
  anything
• 4:33
  from
• 4:33
  paints
• 4:33
  to
• 4:33
  your.
• 4:34
  Those
• 4:34
  little
• 4:34
  handy
• 4:35
  wipes
• 4:35
  that
• 4:36
  you
• 4:36
  buy
• 4:36
  in
• 4:36
  the
• 4:36
  round
• 4:37
  tubs
• 4:37
  that
• 4:37
  we
• 4:38
  use
• 4:38
  so
• 4:38
  much
• 4:38
  for
• 4:38
  cleaning
• 4:39
  up
• 4:39
  around
• 4:39
  the
• 4:40
  house.
• 4:40
  Those
• 4:40
  things
• 4:41
  there
• 4:42
  typically
• 4:43
  give
• 4:43
  off
• 4:43
  a
• 4:43
  ton
• 4:44
  of
• 4:44
  VOCs.
• 4:45
  And
• 4:45
  when
• 4:45
  we
• 4:45
  were
• 4:46
  talking
• 4:46
  to
• 4:46
  Caroline
• 4:46
  a
• 4:47
  few
• 4:47
  years
• 4:47
  ago,
• 4:48
  she
• 4:48
  was
• 4:48
  saying
• 4:48
  that
• 4:48
  she
• 4:49
  could
• 4:49
  just
• 4:49
  about
• 4:49
  count
• 4:49
  how
• 4:49
  many
• 4:50
  are
• 4:50
  in
• 4:50
  a
• 4:50
  house
• 4:50
  by
• 4:50
  the
• 4:51
  air
• 4:51
  quality
• 4:51
  test
• 4:52
  of
• 4:52
  what's
• 4:52
  given
• 4:53
  off.
• 4:53
  There's.
• 4:54
  But
• 4:54
  really
• 4:54
  you
• 4:54
  can
• 4:55
  have
• 4:55
  dirt,
• 4:55
  dust
• 4:56
  floating
• 4:56
  around,
• 4:57
  you
• 4:57
  can
• 4:58
  have
• 4:58
  pet
• 4:58
  hair
• 4:58
  and
• 4:58
  dander,
• 4:59
  you
• 5:00
  can
• 5:00
  have
• 5:00
  carbon
• 5:01
  dioxide
• 5:01
  or
• 5:02
  worse,
• 5:02
  carbon
• 5:02
  monoxide.
• 5:04
  You
• 5:04
  can
• 5:04
  have
• 5:04
  other
• 5:05
  toxins
• 5:05
  like
• 5:05
  mold.
• 5:06
  You
• 5:07
  can
• 5:07
  have
• 5:07
  other
• 5:07
  things
• 5:08
  coming
• 5:08
  off
• 5:08
  that
• 5:08
  are
• 5:08
  off,
• 5:09
  gassing,
• 5:09
  formaldehydes,
• 5:11
  those
• 5:11
  kind
• 5:11
  of
• 5:11
  things.
• 5:11
  And
• 5:12
  so
• 5:12
  these
• 5:12
  are
• 5:12
  things
• 5:13
  not
• 5:13
  alone.
• 5:14
  You
• 5:14
  also
• 5:14
  got
• 5:14
  cooking
• 5:15
  too.
• 5:15
  So
• 5:15
  you
• 5:16
  could
• 5:16
  have
• 5:16
  all
• 5:16
  the
• 5:16
  chemicals
• 5:17
  that
• 5:17
  are
• 5:17
  coming
• 5:17
  off
• 5:18
  of
• 5:18
  the
• 5:18
  food
• 5:18
  you're
• 5:18
  cooking.
• 5:18
  And
• 5:19
  yes,
• 5:19
  when
• 5:19
  you
• 5:19
  cook,
• 5:20
  that
• 5:20
  does
• 5:20
  give
• 5:21
  off
• 5:21
  chemicals,
• 5:22
  carbon
• 5:22
  dioxide
• 5:23
  and
• 5:24
  carbon
• 5:24
  monoxide,
• 5:25
  if
• 5:25
  you're
• 5:25
  not
• 5:25
  careful.
• 5:26
  So
• 5:26
  these
• 5:26
  are
• 5:26
  things
• 5:27
  that
• 5:27
  we
• 5:27
  want
• 5:27
  to
• 5:27
  really
• 5:27
  pay
• 5:28
  attention
• 5:28
  to
• 5:29
  when
• 5:29
  we're
• 5:29
  cooking.
• 5:30
  Now
• 5:32
  these
• 5:32
  are
• 5:32
  all
• 5:32
  different
• 5:32
  things
• 5:33
  that
• 5:33
  you
• 5:33
  can
• 5:33
  do
• 5:35
  and
• 5:36
  manage.
• 5:36
  And
• 5:36
  so
• 5:37
  that's
• 5:37
  what
• 5:37
  I
• 5:37
  really
• 5:37
  wanted
• 5:37
  to
• 5:38
  talk
• 5:38
  about
• 5:38
  today.
• 5:39
  For
• 5:39
  instance,
• 5:39
  here,
• 5:40
  when
• 5:40
  we're
• 5:40
  talking
• 5:40
  VOCs.
• 5:41
  And
• 5:41
  this
• 5:42
  is
• 5:42
  something
• 5:42
  I
• 5:42
  have
• 5:42
  to
• 5:42
  give
• 5:43
  Caroline
• 5:43
  a
• 5:43
  lot
• 5:43
  of
• 5:43
  credit
• 5:44
  for.
• 5:44
  I
• 5:44
  learned
• 5:45
  a
• 5:45
  lot
• 5:45
  from
• 5:45
  her
• 5:45
  on
• 5:45
  this
• 5:46
  subject.
• 5:47
  But
• 5:47
  here's
• 5:48
  the
• 5:48
  thing.
• 5:48
  When
• 5:49
  you
• 5:49
  have
• 5:49
  VOCs
• 5:50
  that
• 5:50
  can
• 5:50
  be
• 5:50
  from
• 5:50
  a
• 5:51
  lot
• 5:51
  of
• 5:51
  different
• 5:51
  things,
• 5:51
  that
• 5:52
  can
• 5:52
  be
• 5:52
  maybe
• 5:53
  the
• 5:53
  air
• 5:53
  freshener
• 5:54
  that
• 5:54
  you
• 5:54
  have
• 5:54
  plugged
• 5:55
  in,
• 5:55
  and
• 5:56
  I'm
• 5:56
  not
• 5:56
  a
• 5:56
  fan
• 5:56
  of
• 5:57
  the
• 5:57
  indoor
• 5:57
  plug
• 5:58
  in
• 5:58
  air
• 5:58
  fresheners
• 5:59
  that
• 5:59
  give
• 5:59
  off
• 6:00
  the
• 6:00
  oils
• 6:00
  and
• 6:00
  stuff
• 6:00
  you
• 6:01
  think
• 6:01
  about
• 6:01
  that's
• 6:01
  almost
• 6:01
  like
• 6:02
  vaping.
• 6:03
  You're
• 6:03
  putting
• 6:03
  out
• 6:03
  this
• 6:04
  colored
• 6:04
  oil
• 6:05
  out
• 6:05
  there
• 6:05
  for
• 6:05
  you
• 6:05
  to
• 6:06
  breathe,
• 6:06
  not
• 6:06
  a
• 6:07
  fan.
• 6:08
  You're
• 6:08
  better
• 6:08
  to
• 6:08
  get
• 6:08
  the
• 6:08
  house
• 6:09
  clean
• 6:09
  and
• 6:10
  use
• 6:10
  something
• 6:10
  more
• 6:10
  natural.
• 6:12
  But
• 6:12
  really,
• 6:13
  VOCs
• 6:13
  are
• 6:14
  going
• 6:14
  to
• 6:14
  come
• 6:14
  from
• 6:15
  could
• 6:15
  be
• 6:16
  that,
• 6:16
  it
• 6:17
  could
• 6:17
  be
• 6:17
  the
• 6:17
  chemicals,
• 6:17
  it
• 6:18
  could
• 6:18
  be
• 6:18
  the
• 6:18
  cleaners,
• 6:18
  it
• 6:19
  could
• 6:19
  be
• 6:19
  a
• 6:19
  lot
• 6:19
  of
• 6:19
  different
• 6:19
  things.
• 6:20
  It
• 6:20
  could
• 6:20
  be
• 6:20
  the
• 6:20
  paints
• 6:20
  that
• 6:21
  you're
• 6:21
  using.
• 6:21
  It
• 6:22
  could
• 6:22
  be
• 6:22
  a
• 6:22
  remodeling
• 6:22
  project.
• 6:23
  And
• 6:24
  one
• 6:24
  of
• 6:24
  the
• 6:24
  things
• 6:24
  that
• 6:24
  I
• 6:24
  learned
• 6:25
  from
• 6:25
  her
• 6:25
  as
• 6:25
  well
• 6:26
  is
• 6:26
  that
• 6:27
  this
• 6:27
  is
• 6:27
  a
• 6:27
  key
• 6:27
  right
• 6:28
  here.
• 6:29
  If
• 6:29
  you're
• 6:29
  storing
• 6:30
  in
• 6:30
  your
• 6:30
  basement
• 6:30
  or
• 6:31
  your
• 6:31
  garage
• 6:31
  that's
• 6:32
  attached
• 6:32
  to
• 6:32
  the
• 6:32
  house,
• 6:33
  if
• 6:33
  you're
• 6:33
  storing
• 6:34
  all
• 6:34
  your
• 6:34
  chemicals,
• 6:34
  like
• 6:35
  your
• 6:35
  lawn
• 6:35
  and
• 6:35
  garden
• 6:36
  chemicals,
• 6:36
  all
• 6:37
  your
• 6:37
  paints,
• 6:37
  all
• 6:37
  your
• 6:38
  stains,
• 6:38
  all
• 6:38
  that
• 6:39
  stuff,
• 6:40
  when
• 6:40
  that
• 6:40
  stuff
• 6:40
  off
• 6:41
  gases
• 6:41
  it
• 6:41
  is
• 6:42
  putting
• 6:42
  it
• 6:42
  up
• 6:42
  into
• 6:42
  the
• 6:43
  air.
• 6:43
  And
• 6:43
  that
• 6:43
  will
• 6:43
  make
• 6:43
  it
• 6:43
  inside
• 6:44
  the
• 6:44
  house,
• 6:45
  especially
• 6:45
  if
• 6:45
  it's
• 6:45
  in
• 6:45
  a
• 6:45
  basement
• 6:46
  or
• 6:46
  things
• 6:47
  like.
• 6:47
  So
• 6:47
  these
• 6:47
  are
• 6:48
  things
• 6:48
  you
• 6:48
  want,
• 6:48
  really
• 6:48
  want
• 6:49
  to
• 6:49
  be
• 6:49
  careful
• 6:49
  with
• 6:50
  because
• 6:50
  that
• 6:50
  can
• 6:50
  really
• 6:51
  hurt
• 6:51
  your
• 6:51
  indoor
• 6:52
  air
• 6:52
  quality.
• 6:53
  Something
• 6:54
  to
• 6:54
  think
• 6:54
  about.
• 6:55
  But
• 6:55
  really,
• 6:55
  when
• 6:56
  it
• 6:56
  comes
• 6:56
  down
• 6:56
  to
• 6:56
  it,
• 6:56
  you've
• 6:57
  got
• 6:57
  a
• 6:57
  couple
• 6:57
  things.
• 6:57
  One,
• 6:58
  if
• 6:58
  you
• 6:58
  want
• 6:58
  to
• 6:58
  get
• 6:58
  particles
• 6:59
  out
• 6:59
  of
• 6:59
  the
• 6:59
  air,
• 7:00
  you
• 7:00
  really
• 7:01
  need
• 7:01
  to
• 7:01
  have
• 7:01
  some
• 7:02
  kind
• 7:02
  of
• 7:02
  filtration.
• 7:03
  Now,
• 7:04
  this
• 7:04
  can
• 7:04
  be
• 7:04
  tough
• 7:04
  if
• 7:05
  you've
• 7:05
  got
• 7:05
  heat
• 7:05
  that's
• 7:06
  a
• 7:06
  radiator
• 7:07
  or
• 7:07
  you've
• 7:07
  got
• 7:08
  baseboard
• 7:08
  heat,
• 7:09
  coming
• 7:10
  up
• 7:10
  with
• 7:10
  a
• 7:10
  way
• 7:10
  to
• 7:10
  filter
• 7:11
  air
• 7:12
  can
• 7:12
  be
• 7:13
  hard.
• 7:13
  And
• 7:13
  there's
• 7:13
  ways
• 7:14
  you
• 7:14
  can
• 7:14
  do
• 7:14
  this
• 7:16
  that's
• 7:16
  fairly
• 7:16
  inexpensive.
• 7:17
  I
• 7:17
  have
• 7:18
  gotten
• 7:18
  a
• 7:19
  box
• 7:19
  fan
• 7:20
  and
• 7:20
  a
• 7:20
  1
• 7:20
  inch
• 7:21
  pleated
• 7:22
  like
• 7:22
  a
• 7:22
  MERV
• 7:23
  8
• 7:23
  10.
• 7:24
  Filter
• 7:24
  that
• 7:24
  good
• 7:25
  air
• 7:25
  filter
• 7:25
  in
• 7:26
  the
• 7:26
  1
• 7:26
  inch
• 7:27
  and
• 7:27
  you
• 7:27
  can
• 7:27
  install
• 7:28
  it
• 7:28
  to
• 7:28
  the
• 7:28
  side
• 7:28
  of
• 7:29
  the
• 7:29
  fan.
• 7:29
  Turn
• 7:29
  the
• 7:29
  fan
• 7:30
  on
• 7:30
  low
• 7:30
  or
• 7:31
  medium
• 7:31
  and
• 7:31
  put
• 7:31
  it
• 7:31
  in
• 7:32
  a
• 7:32
  room.
• 7:32
  And
• 7:32
  you
• 7:33
  can
• 7:33
  get
• 7:33
  a
• 7:33
  lot
• 7:33
  of
• 7:33
  particulate
• 7:34
  matter
• 7:34
  out
• 7:35
  of
• 7:35
  the
• 7:35
  air
• 7:35
  that
• 7:35
  way.
• 7:36
  On
• 7:36
  a
• 7:36
  budget,
• 7:37
  all
• 7:37
  you
• 7:37
  have
• 7:37
  to
• 7:37
  do
• 7:37
  is
• 7:37
  buy
• 7:37
  a
• 7:37
  box
• 7:38
  fan
• 7:38
  and
• 7:38
  put
• 7:38
  a
• 7:38
  filter
• 7:38
  up
• 7:39
  on
• 7:39
  the
• 7:39
  side
• 7:39
  of
• 7:39
  it.
• 7:39
  Make
• 7:40
  sure,
• 7:40
  of
• 7:40
  course,
• 7:40
  that
• 7:40
  you
• 7:40
  buy
• 7:41
  a
• 7:41
  decent
• 7:41
  fan.
• 7:41
  You
• 7:41
  don't
• 7:41
  want
• 7:42
  to
• 7:42
  overheat
• 7:42
  it
• 7:42
  because
• 7:42
  you've
• 7:43
  got
• 7:43
  a
• 7:43
  filter
• 7:44
  medium
• 7:44
  there.
• 7:44
  And
• 7:45
  don't
• 7:45
  always
• 7:45
  run
• 7:45
  it
• 7:45
  on
• 7:45
  a
• 7:46
  high.
• 7:46
  Put
• 7:46
  it
• 7:46
  on
• 7:46
  a
• 7:46
  medium
• 7:47
  so
• 7:47
  you
• 7:47
  get
• 7:47
  that
• 7:47
  thing
• 7:48
  not
• 7:48
  at
• 7:48
  its
• 7:48
  full
• 7:49
  capacity,
• 7:50
  but
• 7:50
  really
• 7:50
  moving
• 7:50
  the
• 7:51
  air
• 7:51
  through
• 7:51
  that
• 7:51
  is
• 7:51
  going
• 7:52
  to
• 7:52
  help.
• 7:52
  That's
• 7:52
  a
• 7:52
  great
• 7:53
  way
• 7:53
  to
• 7:53
  get
• 7:53
  some
• 7:53
  of
• 7:53
  the
• 7:54
  dust
• 7:54
  out
• 7:54
  of
• 7:54
  there
• 7:54
  without
• 7:55
  having
• 7:55
  to
• 7:55
  put
• 7:55
  in
• 7:55
  any
• 7:56
  kind
• 7:56
  of
• 7:56
  an
• 7:56
  air
• 7:56
  scrubber.
• 7:57
  Now,
• 7:58
  I
• 7:58
  don't
• 7:58
  like
• 7:59
  the
• 8:00
  Sharper
• 8:01
  Image
• 8:01
  used
• 8:01
  to
• 8:01
  make
• 8:01
  these
• 8:02
  units
• 8:02
  you
• 8:02
  could
• 8:02
  put
• 8:02
  in.
• 8:03
  And
• 8:03
  they
• 8:03
  were
• 8:04
  a
• 8:04
  hydrostatic
• 8:04
  thing,
• 8:05
  not
• 8:05
  a
• 8:05
  fan
• 8:05
  of
• 8:06
  those.
• 8:06
  They
• 8:06
  never
• 8:06
  worked.
• 8:07
  I
• 8:07
  threw
• 8:07
  mine
• 8:07
  away
• 8:08
  that
• 8:08
  I
• 8:08
  had
• 8:09
  sitting
• 8:09
  around.
• 8:09
  I
• 8:09
  think
• 8:10
  they
• 8:10
  were
• 8:10
  given
• 8:10
  to
• 8:10
  me,
• 8:10
  if
• 8:10
  I
• 8:11
  remember
• 8:11
  right.
• 8:11
  But
• 8:11
  we
• 8:11
  got
• 8:11
  rid
• 8:12
  of
• 8:12
  those
• 8:12
  things.
• 8:12
  But.
• 8:13
  But
• 8:13
  those
• 8:13
  are
• 8:14
  things
• 8:14
  you
• 8:14
  can
• 8:14
  do
• 8:15
  now.
• 8:16
  Carbon
• 8:17
  dioxide
• 8:17
  and
• 8:17
  other
• 8:18
  toxins
• 8:18
  and
• 8:19
  mold.
• 8:19
  First
• 8:19
  off,
• 8:20
  I
• 8:20
  want
• 8:20
  to
• 8:20
  make
• 8:20
  sure
• 8:21
  that
• 8:22
  you're
• 8:22
  doing
• 8:22
  a
• 8:22
  couple
• 8:22
  things.
• 8:23
  One,
• 8:24
  with
• 8:24
  mold,
• 8:24
  I
• 8:24
  want
• 8:25
  to
• 8:25
  make
• 8:25
  sure
• 8:25
  that
• 8:25
  you
• 8:25
  are
• 8:25
  watching
• 8:26
  your
• 8:26
  indoor
• 8:27
  air
• 8:27
  quality
• 8:28
  in
• 8:28
  that
• 8:28
  you're
• 8:28
  checking
• 8:29
  to
• 8:29
  see
• 8:29
  what
• 8:29
  your
• 8:29
  humidity
• 8:30
  is.
• 8:30
  And
• 8:30
  we've
• 8:30
  talked
• 8:31
  about
• 8:31
  this
• 8:31
  in
• 8:31
  the
• 8:31
  past,
• 8:31
  controlling
• 8:32
  humidity.
• 8:33
  But
• 8:33
  I
• 8:33
  really
• 8:33
  want
• 8:33
  to
• 8:33
  make
• 8:34
  sure
• 8:34
  that
• 8:34
  you're
• 8:34
  not
• 8:34
  over
• 8:34
  60%
• 8:36
  anywhere
• 8:36
  in
• 8:36
  the
• 8:36
  house.
• 8:37
  Take
• 8:37
  a
• 8:37
  humidity
• 8:37
  sensor,
• 8:38
  go
• 8:38
  around,
• 8:38
  do
• 8:38
  your
• 8:39
  stuff,
• 8:40
  measure
• 8:40
  the
• 8:40
  basement,
• 8:41
  measure
• 8:41
  the
• 8:41
  crawl
• 8:41
  space,
• 8:42
  measure
• 8:42
  the
• 8:42
  bathroom,
• 8:43
  measure
• 8:43
  the
• 8:43
  kitchen,
• 8:43
  measure
• 8:44
  the
• 8:44
  bedrooms.
• 8:45
  Take
• 8:45
  a
• 8:45
  look
• 8:45
  and
• 8:45
  see
• 8:46
  what
• 8:46
  you've
• 8:46
  got
• 8:46
  going
• 8:46
  on.
• 8:47
  If
• 8:47
  you're
• 8:48
  over
• 8:48
  60%,
• 8:49
  then
• 8:49
  you
• 8:49
  need
• 8:49
  to
• 8:49
  figure
• 8:49
  out
• 8:50
  a
• 8:50
  way
• 8:50
  to
• 8:50
  dehumidify
• 8:51
  that.
• 8:51
  I'm
• 8:51
  not
• 8:52
  a
• 8:52
  fan
• 8:52
  of
• 8:52
  the
• 8:52
  portable
• 8:52
  ones
• 8:53
  that
• 8:53
  you
• 8:53
  come
• 8:53
  around
• 8:54
  have
• 8:54
  to
• 8:54
  empty.
• 8:55
  I'm
• 8:55
  a
• 8:56
  very
• 8:56
  big
• 8:56
  fan
• 8:56
  of
• 8:56
  putting
• 8:57
  ones
• 8:57
  in
• 8:57
  a
• 8:57
  place
• 8:57
  that
• 8:58
  it
• 8:58
  needs
• 8:58
  to
• 8:58
  be,
• 8:59
  or
• 8:59
  making
• 9:00
  sure
• 9:00
  that
• 9:00
  you've
• 9:00
  got
• 9:00
  ventilation
• 9:01
  enough
• 9:02
  to
• 9:02
  get
• 9:02
  that
• 9:02
  humidity
• 9:03
  out.
• 9:03
  One
• 9:04
  of
• 9:04
  the
• 9:04
  biggest
• 9:04
  places
• 9:05
  that
• 9:05
  you're
• 9:05
  going
• 9:05
  to
• 9:05
  see
• 9:05
  that
• 9:05
  is
• 9:05
  your
• 9:06
  bathroom,
• 9:07
  and
• 9:07
  that's
• 9:07
  where
• 9:07
  that
• 9:07
  vent
• 9:08
  fan
• 9:08
  needs
• 9:08
  to
• 9:08
  come
• 9:09
  in.
• 9:09
  But
• 9:09
  that
• 9:10
  vent
• 9:10
  fan
• 9:10
  is
• 9:10
  going
• 9:10
  to
• 9:11
  be
• 9:11
  key
• 9:11
  because
• 9:11
  a
• 9:12
  lot
• 9:12
  of
• 9:12
  times,
• 9:12
  if
• 9:12
  you've
• 9:13
  got
• 9:13
  that
• 9:13
  older
• 9:13
  builder
• 9:14
  basic
• 9:14
  vent
• 9:14
  fan
• 9:14
  that's
• 9:15
  putting
• 9:15
  out
• 9:15
  40
• 9:16
  CFM,
• 9:16
  for
• 9:16
  instance,
• 9:17
  and
• 9:17
  that's
• 9:17
  cubic
• 9:17
  feet
• 9:17
  per
• 9:18
  minute,
• 9:18
  that's
• 9:19
  really
• 9:19
  got
• 9:20
  to
• 9:20
  run
• 9:20
  a
• 9:20
  long
• 9:21
  time
• 9:21
  to
• 9:21
  get
• 9:21
  that
• 9:22
  out
• 9:22
  of
• 9:22
  there.
• 9:22
  I
• 9:23
  like
• 9:23
  putting
• 9:23
  in
• 9:24
  higher
• 9:24
  quality
• 9:24
  ones
• 9:25
  that
• 9:25
  have
• 9:25
  maybe
• 9:26
  100,
• 9:26
  120
• 9:27
  CFM.
• 9:28
  So
• 9:28
  that
• 9:28
  way
• 9:28
  you're
• 9:29
  moving
• 9:29
  a
• 9:29
  lot
• 9:29
  more
• 9:29
  air
• 9:30
  and
• 9:30
  you're
• 9:30
  getting
• 9:30
  it
• 9:30
  out
• 9:30
  there
• 9:31
  faster.
• 9:32
  So
• 9:32
  in
• 9:32
  a
• 9:32
  bathroom
• 9:33
  upgrade
• 9:34
  that
• 9:34
  fan,
• 9:34
  make
• 9:35
  sure
• 9:35
  it
• 9:35
  vents
• 9:35
  all
• 9:35
  the
• 9:35
  way
• 9:36
  to
• 9:36
  the
• 9:36
  outside.
• 9:36
  If
• 9:36
  you're
• 9:36
  venting
• 9:37
  into
• 9:37
  the
• 9:37
  attic
• 9:37
  space,
• 9:38
  that's
• 9:38
  gonna
• 9:38
  grow
• 9:38
  mold,
• 9:39
  and
• 9:39
  that's
• 9:39
  gonna
• 9:40
  be
• 9:40
  a
• 9:40
  expensive
• 9:41
  cleanup
• 9:41
  process
• 9:42
  there,
• 9:42
  so
• 9:42
  don't
• 9:43
  do
• 9:43
  that.
• 9:43
  But
• 9:44
  really
• 9:44
  make
• 9:44
  sure
• 9:44
  that's
• 9:45
  running
• 9:45
  at
• 9:45
  least
• 9:45
  20
• 9:46
  minutes
• 9:46
  after
• 9:46
  you
• 9:46
  take
• 9:46
  a
• 9:47
  shower
• 9:47
  or
• 9:48
  a
• 9:48
  bath,
• 9:48
  anything
• 9:49
  like
• 9:49
  that,
• 9:49
  to
• 9:49
  get
• 9:49
  that
• 9:49
  humidity
• 9:50
  out
• 9:50
  of
• 9:50
  the
• 9:50
  room.
• 9:51
  And
• 9:51
  that's
• 9:51
  why
• 9:51
  building
• 9:52
  code
• 9:52
  generally
• 9:52
  requires
• 9:53
  you
• 9:53
  have
• 9:53
  a
• 9:53
  timer
• 9:53
  there
• 9:54
  so
• 9:54
  you
• 9:54
  can
• 9:54
  do
• 9:54
  that.
• 9:55
  So
• 9:55
  making
• 9:56
  sure
• 9:56
  you
• 9:56
  have
• 9:56
  that.
• 9:56
  If
• 9:57
  you're
• 9:57
  cooking
• 9:57
  on
• 9:58
  the
• 9:58
  stove,
• 9:59
  make
• 9:59
  sure
• 9:59
  that
• 10:00
  range
• 10:00
  hood
• 10:00
  is
• 10:00
  if
• 10:00
  the
• 10:01
  stove
• 10:01
  is
• 10:01
  on,
• 10:01
  the
• 10:01
  range
• 10:01
  hood
• 10:02
  should
• 10:02
  be
• 10:02
  on
• 10:03
  and
• 10:03
  then
• 10:03
  let
• 10:03
  it
• 10:04
  run
• 10:04
  for
• 10:04
  a
• 10:04
  minute
• 10:04
  or
• 10:04
  two
• 10:05
  afterwards.
• 10:06
  If
• 10:06
  you
• 10:06
  see
• 10:06
  particulates,
• 10:07
  if
• 10:07
  you're
• 10:07
  cooking
• 10:08
  meat
• 10:08
  or
• 10:08
  something
• 10:09
  like
• 10:09
  that,
• 10:09
  where
• 10:09
  you've
• 10:09
  got
• 10:09
  a
• 10:10
  lot
• 10:10
  of
• 10:10
  smoke,
• 10:10
  again,
• 10:11
  these
• 10:11
  are
• 10:11
  things
• 10:11
  that
• 10:12
  you
• 10:12
  want
• 10:12
  to
• 10:12
  do.
• 10:13
  Now
• 10:13
  when
• 10:13
  we
• 10:13
  come
• 10:13
  back,
• 10:14
  we're
• 10:14
  going
• 10:14
  to
• 10:14
  talk
• 10:15
  a
• 10:15
  little
• 10:15
  bit
• 10:15
  more
• 10:15
  about
• 10:15
  ventilation
• 10:16
  and
• 10:16
  some
• 10:16
  of
• 10:16
  the
• 10:16
  tricks
• 10:17
  with
• 10:17
  this
• 10:17
  because
• 10:18
  you
• 10:18
  can
• 10:18
  get
• 10:18
  this
• 10:18
  right
• 10:19
  or
• 10:19
  you
• 10:19
  can
• 10:19
  get
• 10:19
  this
• 10:19
  wrong
• 10:19
  and
• 10:20
  it
• 10:20
  can
• 10:20
  be
• 10:20
  expensive
• 10:20
  and
• 10:21
  I
• 10:21
  don't
• 10:21
  want
• 10:21
  you
• 10:21
  to
• 10:21
  have
• 10:21
  to
• 10:21
  waste
• 10:22
  money.
• 10:22
  We'll
• 10:22
  talk
• 10:22
  about
• 10:23
  that
• 10:23
  just
• 10:23
  as
• 10:23
  soon
• 10:23
  as
• 10:23
  around
• 10:24
  the
• 10:24
  House
• 10:24
  returns.
• 12:17
  What's
• 12:17
  up?
• 12:18
  This
• 12:18
  is
• 12:18
  Sticks
• 12:18
  it
• 12:18
  in
• 12:18
  ya
• 12:19
  and
• 12:19
  Satchel
• 12:20
  from
• 12:20
  Steel
• 12:21
  Panther
• 12:21
  and
• 12:22
  you
• 12:22
  are.
• 12:22
  Listening
• 12:23
  to
• 12:23
  around
• 12:24
  the
• 12:24
  House
• 12:24
  with
• 12:24
  Eric
• 12:25
  G.
• 12:26
  Yeah,
• 12:27
  we
• 12:27
  love
• 12:27
  Eric
• 12:28
  G.
• 12:28
  And
• 12:29
  you

• 12:59
  This
• 12:59
  is
• 12:59
  where
• 12:59
  we
• 13:00
  help
• 13:00
  you
• 13:00
  get
• 13:00
  the
• 13:00
  most
• 13:00
  out
• 13:00
  of
• 13:00
  your
• 13:00
  home
• 13:01
  through
• 13:01
  information
• 13:02
  and
• 13:02
  education.
• 13:03
  Thanks
• 13:03
  for
• 13:03
  joining
• 13:03
  us
• 13:04
  today.
• 13:04
  We've
• 13:05
  been
• 13:05
  talking
• 13:05
  everything
• 13:06
  about
• 13:06
  indoor
• 13:06
  air
• 13:07
  quality
• 13:07
  today
• 13:07
  and
• 13:07
  I
• 13:08
  hopefully
• 13:08
  this
• 13:08
  will
• 13:08
  help
• 13:09
  you
• 13:09
  manage
• 13:10
  things
• 13:10
  around
• 13:11
  your
• 13:11
  house
• 13:11
  and
• 13:11
  keep
• 13:12
  it
• 13:12
  nice
• 13:12
  and
• 13:13
  clean
• 13:13
  and
• 13:13
  breathing
• 13:14
  easier.
• 13:15
  So
• 13:15
  we've
• 13:15
  been
• 13:15
  talking
• 13:16
  about
• 13:16
  in
• 13:16
  the
• 13:17
  last
• 13:17
  segment,
• 13:17
  we
• 13:17
  were
• 13:17
  talking
• 13:18
  about
• 13:18
  what
• 13:18
  causes
• 13:19
  low
• 13:19
  indoor
• 13:20
  air
• 13:20
  quality
• 13:21
  and
• 13:22
  we
• 13:22
  were
• 13:22
  talking
• 13:22
  about
• 13:23
  all
• 13:23
  the
• 13:23
  different
• 13:23
  things
• 13:23
  you
• 13:23
  can
• 13:24
  do.
• 13:24
  Now
• 13:24
  ventilation
• 13:25
  is
• 13:25
  one
• 13:25
  of
• 13:25
  the
• 13:26
  things
• 13:26
  that
• 13:26
  are
• 13:26
  good
• 13:26
  because
• 13:27
  you
• 13:27
  can
• 13:27
  take
• 13:27
  that
• 13:28
  air
• 13:29
  and
• 13:29
  send
• 13:29
  it
• 13:29
  outside.
• 13:30
  It
• 13:30
  doesn't
• 13:30
  matter
• 13:30
  if
• 13:31
  it's
• 13:31
  a
• 13:31
  bathroom
• 13:32
  fan,
• 13:33
  if
• 13:33
  it's
• 13:33
  a
• 13:33
  kitchen
• 13:34
  range
• 13:34
  hood
• 13:35
  or
• 13:36
  even
• 13:36
  a
• 13:36
  whole
• 13:36
  house
• 13:37
  fan,
• 13:37
  which
• 13:37
  you
• 13:37
  don't
• 13:38
  see
• 13:38
  as
• 13:38
  much
• 13:38
  of
• 13:38
  anymore.
• 13:39
  But
• 13:40
  really
• 13:40
  that's
• 13:40
  where
• 13:40
  that
• 13:41
  comes
• 13:41
  from.
• 13:41
  And
• 13:41
  if
• 13:42
  you
• 13:42
  have
• 13:43
  a
• 13:43
  heating
• 13:43
  and
• 13:43
  cooling
• 13:44
  system
• 13:44
  like
• 13:44
  a
• 13:45
  H
• 13:45
  vac
• 13:45
  system
• 13:46
  where
• 13:46
  you've
• 13:46
  got
• 13:46
  central
• 13:47
  air
• 13:47
  and
• 13:47
  heat
• 13:48
  and
• 13:48
  or
• 13:48
  a
• 13:48
  heat
• 13:48
  pump,
• 13:49
  it's
• 13:49
  a
• 13:49
  lot
• 13:49
  easier
• 13:49
  to
• 13:49
  manage
• 13:50
  this
• 13:50
  because
• 13:51
  you've
• 13:51
  got
• 13:51
  ducting
• 13:52
  to
• 13:52
  every
• 13:52
  room
• 13:52
  in
• 13:52
  the
• 13:53
  house.
• 13:53
  And
• 13:54
  generally
• 13:54
  you've
• 13:54
  got
• 13:55
  a
• 13:55
  way
• 13:55
  to
• 13:55
  easily
• 13:56
  filter
• 13:56
  it.
• 13:57
  Now,
• 13:57
  one
• 13:57
  of
• 13:58
  the
• 13:58
  things
• 13:58
  that
• 13:58
  I
• 13:58
  want
• 13:58
  to
• 13:59
  bring
• 13:59
  up,
• 13:59
  because
• 13:59
  it's
• 13:59
  very
• 13:59
  important,
• 14:00
  is
• 14:01
  that
• 14:01
  I
• 14:01
  want
• 14:01
  to
• 14:01
  make
• 14:01
  sure
• 14:01
  that
• 14:02
  when
• 14:02
  you
• 14:02
  have
• 14:02
  ventilation
• 14:03
  and
• 14:04
  things
• 14:04
  that
• 14:04
  are
• 14:04
  moving
• 14:05
  air
• 14:05
  outside
• 14:05
  the
• 14:05
  house.
• 14:06
  Now,
• 14:06
  keep
• 14:06
  in
• 14:07
  mind,
• 14:08
  your
• 14:08
  dryer,
• 14:09
  if
• 14:09
  it's
• 14:09
  just
• 14:09
  a
• 14:09
  regular
• 14:10
  dryer,
• 14:10
  is
• 14:10
  putting
• 14:10
  hundreds
• 14:11
  of
• 14:11
  cfm
• 14:11
  out
• 14:12
  the
• 14:12
  house
• 14:12
  when
• 14:13
  it's
• 14:13
  running.
• 14:14
  You've
• 14:14
  got
• 14:14
  a
• 14:15
  range
• 14:15
  hood
• 14:15
  that
• 14:16
  is
• 14:16
  anywhere
• 14:16
  from
• 14:17
  200
• 14:18
  CFM
• 14:18
  for
• 14:18
  a
• 14:19
  cheap
• 14:19
  one
• 14:19
  to
• 14:19
  1200
• 14:20
  CFM
• 14:20
  for
• 14:21
  a
• 14:21
  big
• 14:21
  one.
• 14:21
  And
• 14:22
  CFM
• 14:22
  is
• 14:22
  cubic
• 14:23
  feet
• 14:23
  per
• 14:23
  minute.
• 14:24
  And
• 14:24
  so
• 14:24
  you
• 14:25
  envision
• 14:25
  one
• 14:25
  of
• 14:25
  those
• 14:26
  as
• 14:26
  like
• 14:26
  a
• 14:26
  basketball.
• 14:27
  That's
• 14:27
  always
• 14:27
  my
• 14:27
  thing
• 14:27
  to
• 14:28
  use.
• 14:28
  But
• 14:29
  if
• 14:29
  you're
• 14:29
  taking,
• 14:30
  let's
• 14:30
  say
• 14:30
  you
• 14:30
  got
• 14:31
  somebody
• 14:31
  who's
• 14:31
  took
• 14:31
  a
• 14:31
  shower
• 14:32
  and
• 14:32
  somebody's
• 14:32
  cooking
• 14:32
  breakfast,
• 14:33
  so
• 14:33
  you
• 14:34
  got
• 14:34
  a
• 14:34
  shower
• 14:34
  going,
• 14:35
  maybe
• 14:36
  that's
• 14:36
  75
• 14:37
  CFM
• 14:38
  or
• 14:38
  a
• 14:38
  great
• 14:39
  fan,
• 14:39
  but
• 14:39
  still
• 14:39
  that's
• 14:40
  rated
• 14:40
  at
• 14:40
  the
• 14:40
  fan.
• 14:40
  So
• 14:41
  it
• 14:41
  still
• 14:41
  has
• 14:41
  to
• 14:41
  go
• 14:41
  out.
• 14:41
  So
• 14:42
  let's
• 14:42
  say
• 14:42
  it's
• 14:42
  a
• 14:42
  really
• 14:42
  good
• 14:43
  fan.
• 14:43
  At
• 14:43
  75,
• 14:44
  you've
• 14:45
  got
• 14:45
  1,000
• 14:45
  CFM
• 14:46
  and
• 14:46
  a
• 14:46
  range
• 14:47
  hood
• 14:47
  and
• 14:48
  then
• 14:48
  a
• 14:48
  dryer
• 14:48
  going.
• 14:49
  All
• 14:49
  of
• 14:49
  a
• 14:49
  sudden
• 14:51
  you've
• 14:51
  got,
• 14:52
  let's
• 14:52
  say,
• 14:52
  1200
• 14:53
  CFM
• 14:53
  or
• 14:53
  more,
• 14:55
  1200
• 14:55
  cubic
• 14:56
  feet
• 14:57
  per
• 14:57
  minute
• 14:58
  leaving
• 14:58
  the
• 14:58
  house.
• 14:59
  So
• 15:00
  what
• 15:00
  do
• 15:00
  you
• 15:00
  do
• 15:00
  on
• 15:00
  the
• 15:00
  inside?
• 15:01
  You've
• 15:01
  created
• 15:01
  a
• 15:01
  vacuum.
• 15:03
  Now,
• 15:03
  if
• 15:03
  you've
• 15:03
  got
• 15:03
  a
• 15:03
  really
• 15:04
  tight
• 15:04
  house
• 15:05
  that
• 15:05
  was
• 15:05
  built
• 15:05
  recently,
• 15:06
  the
• 15:07
  problem
• 15:07
  now
• 15:07
  is
• 15:07
  that
• 15:07
  you're
• 15:08
  creating
• 15:08
  a
• 15:08
  vacuum,
• 15:08
  and
• 15:09
  it's
• 15:09
  going
• 15:09
  to
• 15:09
  find
• 15:09
  the
• 15:09
  path
• 15:10
  of
• 15:10
  least
• 15:10
  resistance.
• 15:11
  That
• 15:12
  can
• 15:12
  be
• 15:13
  where
• 15:13
  your
• 15:14
  gas
• 15:14
  water
• 15:14
  heater
• 15:15
  is
• 15:15
  venting
• 15:15
  outside.
• 15:15
  And
• 15:16
  all
• 15:16
  of
• 15:16
  a
• 15:16
  sudden
• 15:16
  you're
• 15:16
  pulling
• 15:17
  the
• 15:17
  carbon
• 15:17
  monoxide
• 15:18
  in
• 15:18
  backwards
• 15:19
  or
• 15:19
  from
• 15:20
  your.
• 15:20
  You're
• 15:21
  pulling
• 15:21
  it
• 15:21
  back
• 15:21
  in
• 15:21
  from
• 15:22
  your.
• 15:22
  Maybe
• 15:23
  your
• 15:23
  gas
• 15:23
  furnace.
• 15:23
  So
• 15:24
  if
• 15:24
  you've
• 15:24
  got
• 15:24
  gas
• 15:24
  appliances,
• 15:25
  really
• 15:25
  be
• 15:25
  careful
• 15:26
  with
• 15:26
  that,
• 15:27
  or
• 15:27
  you're
• 15:27
  just
• 15:27
  pulling
• 15:28
  in
• 15:28
  air.
• 15:28
  So
• 15:29
  the
• 15:29
  answer
• 15:29
  to
• 15:29
  that,
• 15:30
  you
• 15:30
  don't
• 15:31
  want
• 15:31
  to
• 15:31
  be
• 15:31
  pulling
• 15:31
  around
• 15:31
  windows
• 15:32
  and
• 15:32
  doors
• 15:32
  and
• 15:32
  air
• 15:32
  leaks
• 15:33
  in
• 15:33
  the
• 15:33
  house.
• 15:33
  So
• 15:33
  really
• 15:33
  the
• 15:33
  answer
• 15:34
  to
• 15:34
  that
• 15:34
  is
• 15:34
  having
• 15:34
  makeup
• 15:35
  air.
• 15:35
  And
• 15:36
  that
• 15:36
  is
• 15:36
  meant
• 15:36
  for.
• 15:37
  If
• 15:37
  you
• 15:37
  have
• 15:37
  a
• 15:39
  H
• 15:39
  vac
• 15:39
  system.
• 15:40
  So
• 15:40
  you've
• 15:40
  got
• 15:40
  that
• 15:41
  ducted
• 15:41
  system
• 15:42
  where
• 15:42
  you
• 15:43
  hook
• 15:43
  in
• 15:44
  a
• 15:45
  sensor
• 15:45
  that
• 15:46
  either
• 15:46
  senses
• 15:46
  that
• 15:47
  vacuum
• 15:48
  or
• 15:48
  triggers
• 15:49
  when
• 15:49
  the
• 15:49
  vent
• 15:50
  fans
• 15:50
  turn
• 15:50
  on.
• 15:50
  So
• 15:50
  what
• 15:51
  that
• 15:51
  does
• 15:51
  is
• 15:51
  that
• 15:52
  basically
• 15:52
  says,
• 15:53
  hey,
• 15:53
  we
• 15:54
  need
• 15:54
  to
• 15:54
  bring
• 15:54
  in
• 15:54
  fresh
• 15:54
  air.
• 15:55
  So
• 15:55
  it'll
• 15:55
  turn
• 15:55
  the
• 15:55
  fan
• 15:56
  on
• 15:56
  the
• 15:56
  system,
• 15:57
  and
• 15:57
  then
• 15:57
  it
• 15:57
  opens
• 15:58
  up
• 15:58
  and
• 15:58
  brings
• 15:58
  in
• 15:58
  air
• 15:59
  to
• 15:59
  be
• 15:59
  conditioned
• 16:00
  into
• 16:00
  your
• 16:00
  system.
• 16:01
  So
• 16:02
  it'll
• 16:02
  go
• 16:02
  through.
• 16:03
  Run
• 16:03
  it
• 16:03
  through
• 16:03
  your
• 16:03
  furnace,
• 16:05
  basically,
• 16:05
  or
• 16:05
  your
• 16:06
  air
• 16:06
  conditioner,
• 16:06
  and
• 16:06
  then
• 16:07
  out
• 16:07
  to
• 16:07
  the
• 16:07
  rest
• 16:07
  of
• 16:07
  the
• 16:07
  house,
• 16:08
  replacing
• 16:08
  that
• 16:08
  air.
• 16:09
  So
• 16:10
  it's
• 16:10
  something
• 16:10
  to
• 16:10
  really
• 16:10
  think
• 16:11
  about
• 16:12
  is
• 16:12
  you
• 16:12
  don't
• 16:13
  want
• 16:13
  to
• 16:13
  create
• 16:13
  that
• 16:13
  vacuum,
• 16:14
  and
• 16:14
  that
• 16:14
  can
• 16:14
  be
• 16:14
  a
• 16:14
  problem.
• 16:15
  But
• 16:15
  you
• 16:15
  really
• 16:16
  want
• 16:16
  to
• 16:16
  have
• 16:16
  ventilation,
• 16:17
  because
• 16:17
  that
• 16:17
  ventilation
• 16:18
  is
• 16:18
  key.
• 16:19
  Now,
• 16:19
  I
• 16:19
  also
• 16:19
  recommend
• 16:20
  ventilation
• 16:21
  in
• 16:21
  the
• 16:21
  garage.
• 16:21
  If
• 16:21
  you
• 16:22
  have
• 16:22
  a
• 16:23
  insulated
• 16:23
  attached
• 16:24
  garage
• 16:24
  with
• 16:25
  an
• 16:25
  insulated
• 16:25
  door,
• 16:25
  make
• 16:26
  sure
• 16:26
  you
• 16:26
  have
• 16:26
  it
• 16:26
  in
• 16:26
  there,
• 16:26
  because
• 16:27
  if
• 16:27
  that's
• 16:27
  all
• 16:27
  sealed
• 16:27
  up
• 16:28
  and
• 16:28
  you
• 16:28
  park
• 16:28
  a
• 16:29
  wet
• 16:29
  car
• 16:29
  in
• 16:29
  there,
• 16:29
  you
• 16:29
  can
• 16:30
  have
• 16:30
  mold
• 16:30
  issues.
• 16:30
  So
• 16:30
  make
• 16:31
  sure
• 16:31
  that
• 16:31
  you've
• 16:31
  got
• 16:32
  fresh
• 16:32
  air
• 16:33
  or
• 16:33
  at
• 16:33
  least
• 16:33
  something
• 16:34
  exhausting
• 16:34
  that
• 16:35
  moisture
• 16:35
  out
• 16:35
  of
• 16:35
  there.
• 16:36
  Now,
• 16:37
  depending
• 16:37
  on
• 16:37
  your
• 16:37
  location,
• 16:38
  you
• 16:38
  might
• 16:38
  need
• 16:39
  a
• 16:40
  humidifier
• 16:40
  or
• 16:41
  dehumidifier
• 16:41
  in
• 16:42
  the
• 16:42
  house,
• 16:42
  depending
• 16:42
  on
• 16:42
  what
• 16:43
  it's
• 16:43
  like.
• 16:44
  Many
• 16:44
  times
• 16:44
  if
• 16:45
  you're
• 16:45
  in
• 16:45
  the
• 16:45
  very
• 16:45
  cold,
• 16:46
  you
• 16:47
  need
• 16:47
  a
• 16:47
  humidifier
• 16:48
  because
• 16:48
  the
• 16:48
  air
• 16:49
  is
• 16:49
  so
• 16:49
  dry.
• 16:50
  Because
• 16:50
  it's
• 16:50
  so
• 16:50
  cold
• 16:51
  inside
• 16:51
  the
• 16:52
  house,
• 16:52
  you'll
• 16:52
  get
• 16:52
  down
• 16:52
  into
• 16:53
  that
• 16:53
  20%
• 16:53
  humidity,
• 16:54
  and
• 16:55
  it's
• 16:55
  uncomfortable.
• 16:56
  You'll
• 16:56
  have
• 16:56
  static
• 16:56
  electricity.
• 16:57
  You'll
• 16:57
  have
• 16:57
  dry
• 16:58
  hands.
• 16:59
  You'll
• 16:59
  have.
• 16:59
  It's
• 17:00
  hard
• 17:00
  on
• 17:00
  the
• 17:00
  fixtures
• 17:00
  and
• 17:01
  stuff
• 17:01
  inside.
• 17:01
  Anything
• 17:01
  wood
• 17:02
  dries
• 17:02
  out,
• 17:02
  it's
• 17:03
  just
• 17:03
  not
• 17:03
  great.
• 17:04
  Or
• 17:04
  if
• 17:05
  you've
• 17:05
  got
• 17:05
  humidity,
• 17:06
  where
• 17:06
  it's
• 17:06
  wet,
• 17:07
  it's
• 17:07
  moist,
• 17:07
  you
• 17:08
  could
• 17:08
  have
• 17:08
  high
• 17:08
  humidity
• 17:09
  issues,
• 17:09
  which
• 17:10
  then
• 17:10
  will
• 17:10
  create
• 17:10
  mold.
• 17:11
  And
• 17:11
  that's
• 17:11
  over
• 17:11
  60%
• 17:12
  relative
• 17:13
  humidity.
• 17:13
  So
• 17:14
  these
• 17:14
  are
• 17:14
  things
• 17:14
  that
• 17:14
  we
• 17:14
  need
• 17:15
  to
• 17:15
  manage
• 17:15
  in
• 17:16
  this
• 17:16
  indoor
• 17:17
  air
• 17:17
  quality,
• 17:18
  because
• 17:18
  mold
• 17:19
  is
• 17:19
  something
• 17:19
  that
• 17:19
  I
• 17:19
  think
• 17:19
  should
• 17:20
  be
• 17:20
  very
• 17:21
  commonly
• 17:22
  tested
• 17:22
  around
• 17:22
  our
• 17:22
  house,
• 17:23
  and
• 17:24
  that's
• 17:24
  something
• 17:24
  that
• 17:24
  I
• 17:24
  think
• 17:24
  we
• 17:24
  should
• 17:25
  talk
• 17:25
  about
• 17:25
  here,
• 17:25
  because
• 17:26
  you
• 17:26
  want
• 17:26
  to
• 17:26
  make
• 17:26
  sure
• 17:27
  that
• 17:27
  you're
• 17:27
  testing
• 17:27
  for
• 17:27
  that
• 17:29
  mold
• 17:29
  will
• 17:29
  show
• 17:29
  up
• 17:30
  in
• 17:30
  air
• 17:30
  quality
• 17:31
  testing.
• 17:31
  It
• 17:31
  could
• 17:31
  be
• 17:32
  that
• 17:32
  you've
• 17:32
  got
• 17:32
  a
• 17:33
  shower
• 17:33
  leaking.
• 17:33
  It
• 17:33
  could
• 17:34
  be
• 17:34
  that
• 17:34
  you
• 17:34
  have
• 17:34
  a
• 17:34
  roof
• 17:34
  leak
• 17:35
  that's
• 17:35
  coming
• 17:36
  to
• 17:36
  a
• 17:36
  place
• 17:36
  that
• 17:36
  you
• 17:36
  haven't
• 17:37
  caught
• 17:37
  yet.
• 17:38
  It
• 17:38
  could
• 17:38
  be
• 17:39
  in
• 17:39
  an
• 17:39
  attic
• 17:39
  or
• 17:39
  crawl
• 17:40
  space.
• 17:40
  It
• 17:41
  could
• 17:41
  be
• 17:41
  anywhere.
• 17:42
  So
• 17:42
  that
• 17:42
  is
• 17:42
  where
• 17:42
  you
• 17:42
  need
• 17:43
  to
• 17:43
  bring
• 17:43
  in
• 17:43
  the
• 17:43
  professionals
• 17:44
  to
• 17:44
  figure
• 17:44
  out
• 17:44
  where
• 17:44
  that
• 17:45
  mold
• 17:45
  is
• 17:45
  coming
• 17:46
  from.
• 17:46
  And
• 17:47
  that's
• 17:47
  why
• 17:47
  you
• 17:47
  want
• 17:48
  to
• 17:48
  start
• 17:48
  with
• 17:48
  this
• 17:48
  baseline.
• 17:49
  Now,
• 17:49
  sometimes
• 17:50
  if
• 17:50
  you've
• 17:50
  got
• 17:50
  an
• 17:50
  air
• 17:51
  leak
• 17:51
  and
• 17:51
  you've
• 17:51
  got
• 17:51
  mold
• 17:52
  outside
• 17:52
  because
• 17:52
  you're
• 17:53
  next
• 17:53
  to
• 17:53
  a
• 17:53
  marshy,
• 17:54
  swampy
• 17:56
  water
• 17:56
  area,
• 17:56
  then
• 17:57
  you
• 17:58
  could
• 17:58
  be
• 17:58
  testing
• 17:58
  mold
• 17:59
  and
• 17:59
  go,
• 17:59
  oh,
• 17:59
  my
• 17:59
  gosh,
• 18:00
  I've
• 18:00
  got
• 18:00
  mold
• 18:00
  spores
• 18:00
  here.
• 18:01
  It's
• 18:01
  coming
• 18:01
  from
• 18:01
  someplace,
• 18:02
  and
• 18:03
  it's
• 18:03
  just
• 18:03
  coming
• 18:03
  from
• 18:03
  air
• 18:04
  leaks
• 18:04
  because
• 18:04
  it's
• 18:04
  coming
• 18:04
  from
• 18:05
  outside.
• 18:06
  So
• 18:06
  you
• 18:06
  want
• 18:06
  to
• 18:06
  make
• 18:06
  sure
• 18:07
  and
• 18:07
  test
• 18:07
  that.
• 18:07
  But
• 18:08
  really
• 18:08
  trying
• 18:09
  to
• 18:09
  dive
• 18:09
  this
• 18:09
  in
• 18:09
  and
• 18:10
  figure
• 18:10
  out
• 18:11
  what's
• 18:11
  in
• 18:11
  your
• 18:11
  air
• 18:12
  is
• 18:12
  key.
• 18:13
  And
• 18:13
  that
• 18:13
  way
• 18:14
  you've
• 18:14
  got
• 18:14
  it
• 18:14
  under
• 18:15
  control.
• 18:15
  Because
• 18:15
  I
• 18:15
  tell
• 18:16
  you
• 18:16
  what,
• 18:16
  mold
• 18:16
  can
• 18:16
  show
• 18:17
  up
• 18:17
  from
• 18:18
  a
• 18:18
  shower
• 18:18
  leak
• 18:19
  to
• 18:19
  a.
• 18:20
  I've
• 18:20
  seen
• 18:21
  vent
• 18:21
  fans
• 18:22
  that
• 18:22
  had
• 18:23
  uninsulated
• 18:24
  duct
• 18:24
  and
• 18:24
  that
• 18:24
  was
• 18:25
  condensing
• 18:25
  and
• 18:26
  causing
• 18:26
  mold
• 18:26
  in
• 18:26
  the
• 18:26
  roof
• 18:27
  of
• 18:27
  the
• 18:28
  bathroom.
• 18:29
  So
• 18:29
  it
• 18:29
  doesn't
• 18:29
  take
• 18:29
  much.
• 18:30
  You
• 18:30
  could
• 18:30
  have
• 18:30
  a
• 18:30
  steam
• 18:30
  shower
• 18:31
  where
• 18:31
  it's
• 18:31
  condensing
• 18:32
  in
• 18:32
  the
• 18:32
  shower
• 18:33
  and
• 18:33
  you're
• 18:33
  not
• 18:33
  running
• 18:34
  the
• 18:34
  fan
• 18:34
  long
• 18:34
  enough.
• 18:34
  And
• 18:35
  of
• 18:35
  course,
• 18:35
  you've
• 18:35
  got
• 18:35
  lots
• 18:36
  of
• 18:36
  issues
• 18:36
  there.
• 18:37
  So
• 18:37
  these
• 18:37
  are
• 18:37
  all
• 18:37
  things
• 18:37
  that
• 18:38
  I
• 18:38
  want
• 18:38
  you
• 18:38
  to
• 18:38
  take
• 18:38
  into
• 18:38
  account,
• 18:39
  because
• 18:40
  this
• 18:40
  mold
• 18:40
  can
• 18:40
  be
• 18:41
  a
• 18:41
  big
• 18:41
  deal.
• 18:42
  And
• 18:42
  I
• 18:42
  have
• 18:42
  found,
• 18:43
  and
• 18:43
  I
• 18:43
  don't
• 18:43
  do
• 18:43
  this
• 18:43
  every
• 18:44
  day,
• 18:44
  and
• 18:44
  I
• 18:44
  have
• 18:44
  found
• 18:45
  a
• 18:45
  ton
• 18:45
  of
• 18:45
  mold
• 18:46
  issues,
• 18:46
  especially
• 18:47
  in
• 18:47
  newer
• 18:47
  homes
• 18:48
  where
• 18:48
  they
• 18:48
  built
• 18:48
  them
• 18:49
  tighter,
• 18:49
  they
• 18:50
  didn't
• 18:50
  ventilate
• 18:50
  well,
• 18:51
  and
• 18:51
  people
• 18:51
  were
• 18:52
  not
• 18:52
  monitoring
• 18:52
  humidity.
• 18:53
  And
• 18:54
  homes
• 18:54
  with
• 18:54
  basements
• 18:55
  are
• 18:55
  especially
• 18:56
  troublesome
• 18:57
  because
• 18:57
  you
• 18:57
  can
• 18:58
  have
• 18:58
  a
• 18:58
  bare
• 18:59
  concrete
• 18:59
  wall
• 18:59
  in
• 18:59
  a
• 18:59
  basement
• 19:00
  and
• 19:00
  water
• 19:00
  just
• 19:01
  seeping
• 19:01
  through
• 19:02
  that
• 19:02
  in
• 19:03
  the
• 19:03
  water
• 19:03
  vapor.
• 19:04
  And
• 19:04
  then
• 19:04
  if
• 19:04
  you
• 19:04
  stack
• 19:04
  up
• 19:05
  a
• 19:05
  bunch
• 19:05
  of
• 19:05
  cold
• 19:05
  boxes
• 19:06
  or
• 19:06
  totes,
• 19:07
  all
• 19:07
  of
• 19:07
  a
• 19:07
  sudden
• 19:07
  you've
• 19:08
  got
• 19:08
  mold
• 19:08
  growing
• 19:09
  on
• 19:09
  the
• 19:09
  wall,
• 19:09
  you've
• 19:09
  got
• 19:09
  a
• 19:10
  root
• 19:10
  growing
• 19:10
  on
• 19:10
  the.
• 19:11
  The.
• 19:11
  On
• 19:11
  the
• 19:12
  concrete,
• 19:12
  you've
• 19:13
  got
• 19:13
  it
• 19:13
  growing
• 19:13
  on
• 19:13
  the
• 19:13
  boxes.
• 19:14
  These
• 19:14
  are
• 19:14
  all
• 19:15
  things
• 19:15
  that
• 19:15
  could
• 19:15
  happen.
• 19:15
  So
• 19:16
  lots
• 19:16
  of
• 19:16
  different
• 19:17
  places
• 19:17
  for
• 19:17
  that
• 19:17
  to
• 19:18
  grow,
• 19:19
  you
• 19:19
  know.
• 19:19
  Now
• 19:20
  if
• 19:20
  you've
• 19:20
  got
• 19:21
  anything
• 19:21
  from
• 19:21
  allergies
• 19:22
  to
• 19:23
  asthma
• 19:23
  to
• 19:24
  things
• 19:24
  like
• 19:24
  that,
• 19:25
  I
• 19:25
  think
• 19:25
  working
• 19:26
  on
• 19:26
  trying
• 19:27
  to
• 19:27
  get
• 19:27
  your
• 19:27
  indoor
• 19:28
  air
• 19:28
  quality
• 19:28
  is
• 19:29
  a
• 19:29
  really
• 19:29
  smart
• 19:30
  idea
• 19:30
  for
• 19:31
  having
• 19:31
  a
• 19:31
  healthier
• 19:32
  air.
• 19:32
  Because
• 19:33
  there
• 19:33
  are
• 19:33
  so
• 19:33
  many
• 19:33
  pollutants
• 19:34
  inside
• 19:34
  our
• 19:34
  house.
• 19:34
  The
• 19:34
  better,
• 19:35
  the
• 19:35
  more
• 19:35
  you
• 19:35
  can
• 19:36
  do
• 19:36
  with
• 19:36
  that.
• 19:36
  It's
• 19:36
  shocking.
• 19:37
  We
• 19:37
  got
• 19:37
  dogs,
• 19:38
  and
• 19:39
  I
• 19:39
  have
• 19:39
  a
• 19:40
  robotic
• 19:40
  lg,
• 19:41
  robotic
• 19:41
  vacuum
• 19:42
  that
• 19:42
  I
• 19:42
  run
• 19:43
  almost
• 19:43
  every
• 19:43
  single
• 19:43
  day
• 19:44
  in
• 19:44
  the
• 19:44
  house.
• 19:44
  And
• 19:44
  it
• 19:44
  fills
• 19:45
  it
• 19:45
  up
• 19:45
  with
• 19:45
  pet
• 19:45
  hair.
• 19:46
  Now,
• 19:47
  it
• 19:47
  doesn't
• 19:47
  get
• 19:47
  all
• 19:47
  of
• 19:48
  it,
• 19:48
  because
• 19:49
  pet
• 19:49
  hair
• 19:49
  ends
• 19:49
  up
• 19:50
  getting
• 19:50
  around
• 19:50
  everywhere,
• 19:50
  especially
• 19:51
  when
• 19:51
  you
• 19:51
  have
• 19:51
  airflow.
• 19:51
  So
• 19:51
  it'll
• 19:52
  come
• 19:52
  under
• 19:52
  the.
• 19:53
  Under
• 19:53
  things.
• 19:53
  So
• 19:54
  things
• 19:54
  that
• 19:54
  I
• 19:54
  want
• 19:54
  you
• 19:54
  to
• 19:55
  do
• 19:55
  if
• 19:55
  you
• 19:55
  have
• 19:55
  pets,
• 19:56
  make
• 19:56
  sure
• 19:57
  that
• 19:57
  what's
• 19:57
  handy
• 19:58
  if
• 19:58
  your
• 19:58
  air
• 19:58
  intake
• 19:59
  for
• 19:59
  your
• 19:59
  furnace
• 20:00
  is
• 20:00
  up
• 20:00
  high,
• 20:00
  make
• 20:01
  sure
• 20:01
  you've
• 20:01
  got
• 20:01
  that
• 20:01
  cleaned
• 20:02
  up.
• 20:02
  But
• 20:03
  really
• 20:04
  monthly
• 20:05
  moving
• 20:05
  furniture
• 20:06
  like
• 20:06
  couches
• 20:07
  and
• 20:07
  beds,
• 20:08
  if,
• 20:08
  especially
• 20:08
  if
• 20:09
  you've
• 20:09
  got
• 20:09
  hardwoods,
• 20:09
  if
• 20:10
  you've
• 20:10
  got
• 20:10
  carpets
• 20:11
  are
• 20:12
  great
• 20:12
  as
• 20:13
  being
• 20:13
  a
• 20:13
  filter
• 20:14
  medium
• 20:14
  of
• 20:14
  tracking
• 20:15
  indoor
• 20:16
  pollutants.
• 20:17
  Carpet
• 20:17
  is
• 20:17
  just
• 20:18
  one
• 20:18
  of
• 20:18
  those
• 20:18
  things
• 20:18
  that
• 20:19
  it
• 20:19
  can
• 20:19
  track
• 20:20
  so
• 20:20
  much
• 20:20
  dirt,
• 20:21
  it
• 20:21
  can
• 20:21
  track
• 20:21
  so
• 20:22
  much
• 20:22
  dust
• 20:22
  and
• 20:23
  dander
• 20:23
  and
• 20:23
  pet
• 20:24
  hair
• 20:24
  and
• 20:24
  human
• 20:25
  skin
• 20:25
  that
• 20:26
  gets
• 20:26
  shedded
• 20:26
  off,
• 20:27
  that's
• 20:27
  another
• 20:27
  one.
• 20:28
  And
• 20:28
  so
• 20:28
  these
• 20:28
  are
• 20:29
  things
• 20:29
  to
• 20:30
  having
• 20:30
  a
• 20:30
  really
• 20:30
  good
• 20:31
  vacuum
• 20:32
  and
• 20:32
  having
• 20:32
  them
• 20:33
  professionally
• 20:33
  cleaned
• 20:33
  every
• 20:34
  few
• 20:34
  years
• 20:34
  or
• 20:34
  things
• 20:35
  that
• 20:35
  are
• 20:35
  really
• 20:35
  good
• 20:36
  with
• 20:36
  carpets.
• 20:37
  I
• 20:37
  don't
• 20:37
  recommend
• 20:37
  ever
• 20:37
  cleaning
• 20:38
  with
• 20:38
  the
• 20:38
  run
• 20:38
  up
• 20:39
  to
• 20:39
  your
• 20:39
  home
• 20:39
  rental
• 20:39
  store
• 20:40
  and
• 20:40
  get
• 20:40
  something.
• 20:41
  Those
• 20:41
  just
• 20:41
  don't
• 20:41
  do
• 20:41
  a
• 20:42
  good
• 20:42
  enough
• 20:42
  job.
• 20:42
  You
• 20:42
  want
• 20:42
  something
• 20:43
  that's
• 20:43
  truck
• 20:43
  mounted
• 20:43
  and
• 20:44
  have
• 20:44
  a
• 20:44
  company
• 20:44
  come
• 20:44
  in
• 20:44
  and
• 20:45
  do
• 20:45
  it.
• 20:45
  That
• 20:46
  way
• 20:46
  you
• 20:46
  get
• 20:46
  something
• 20:47
  quality.
• 20:48
  Now
• 20:48
  when
• 20:49
  you
• 20:49
  come
• 20:49
  back,
• 20:49
  we're
• 20:49
  going
• 20:49
  to
• 20:49
  talk
• 20:50
  more
• 20:50
  about
• 20:51
  indoor
• 20:51
  air
• 20:51
  quality
• 20:52
  just
• 20:52
  as
• 20:52
  soon
• 20:52
  as
• 20:53
  around
• 20:53
  the
• 20:53
  House
• 20:53
  returns.
• 22:19
  Foreign.
• 22:27
  Welcome
• 22:27
  back
• 22:28
  to
• 22:28
  the
• 22:28
  around
• 22:28
  the
• 22:28
  House
• 22:29
  Show.
• 22:29
  Today
• 22:30
  we're
• 22:31
  bringing
• 22:31
  you
• 22:31
  a
• 22:31
  special
• 22:32
  best
• 22:32
  of
• 22:32
  episode
• 22:33
  from
• 22:33
  December
• 22:34
  2023.
• 22:36
  Packed
• 22:36
  with
• 22:36
  our
• 22:37
  favorite
• 22:37
  tips
• 22:37
  and
• 22:38
  moments.
• 22:39
  Eric
• 22:39
  and
• 22:39
  John
• 22:39
  are
• 22:40
  taking
• 22:40
  a
• 22:40
  quick
• 22:40
  break
• 22:41
  to
• 22:41
  remodel
• 22:42
  and
• 22:42
  refresh
• 22:42
  the
• 22:43
  show.
• 22:43
  Don't
• 22:44
  worry,
• 22:44
  they're
• 22:45
  keeping
• 22:45
  everything
• 22:46
  you
• 22:46
  love
• 22:46
  about
• 22:46
  around
• 22:47
  the
• 22:47
  House.
• 22:48
  And
• 22:48
  we
• 22:48
  will
• 22:48
  all
• 22:48
  be
• 22:48
  back
• 22:49
  next
• 22:49
  week
• 22:49
  with
• 22:49
  a
• 22:50
  refreshingly
• 22:50
  new
• 22:51
  show.
• 22:52
  Welcome
• 22:52
  back
• 22:52
  to
• 22:52
  the
• 22:52
  around
• 22:53
  the
• 22:53
  House
• 22:53
  show.
• 22:53
  This
• 22:53
  is
• 22:53
  where
• 22:53
  we
• 22:53
  help
• 22:54
  you
• 22:54
  get
• 22:54
  the
• 22:54
  most
• 22:54
  out
• 22:54
  of
• 22:54
  your
• 22:54
  home
• 22:54
  through
• 22:55
  information
• 22:55
  and
• 22:56
  education.
• 22:56
  We've
• 22:56
  been
• 22:57
  talking
• 22:58
  indoor
• 22:58
  air
• 22:58
  quality
• 22:59
  and
• 22:59
  the
• 22:59
  things
• 22:59
  that
• 22:59
  you
• 23:00
  can
• 23:00
  do
• 23:00
  to
• 23:00
  make
• 23:01
  sure
• 23:01
  that
• 23:01
  you've
• 23:02
  got
• 23:02
  the
• 23:02
  healthiest
• 23:02
  air
• 23:03
  possible,
• 23:03
  especially
• 23:04
  in
• 23:04
  the
• 23:05
  wintertime
• 23:05
  when
• 23:05
  many
• 23:06
  of
• 23:06
  us
• 23:06
  are
• 23:06
  spending
• 23:07
  all
• 23:07
  that
• 23:07
  extra
• 23:08
  time
• 23:08
  indoors.
• 23:09
  Now
• 23:10
  let's
• 23:10
  talk
• 23:10
  a
• 23:10
  little
• 23:10
  bit
• 23:10
  here
• 23:11
  about
• 23:11
  some
• 23:11
  of
• 23:12
  the
• 23:12
  things
• 23:12
  that
• 23:12
  maybe
• 23:13
  you
• 23:13
  don't
• 23:13
  want
• 23:13
  to
• 23:14
  do
• 23:14
  inside
• 23:14
  your
• 23:15
  house.
• 23:16
  Now,
• 23:16
  one
• 23:16
  of
• 23:16
  the
• 23:16
  biggest
• 23:17
  mistakes
• 23:17
  that
• 23:17
  I
• 23:17
  see
• 23:17
  people
• 23:18
  make
• 23:18
  is
• 23:19
  and
• 23:19
  now
• 23:19
  all
• 23:20
  of
• 23:20
  these
• 23:20
  things
• 23:20
  can
• 23:21
  be
• 23:21
  remedied,
• 23:21
  but
• 23:21
  you
• 23:22
  just
• 23:22
  have
• 23:22
  to
• 23:22
  invest
• 23:23
  in
• 23:23
  the
• 23:23
  money
• 23:23
  to
• 23:24
  deal
• 23:24
  with
• 23:24
  it.
• 23:25
  Basement
• 23:26
  wood
• 23:26
  shops
• 23:27
  or
• 23:27
  workshops
• 23:28
  are
• 23:29
  a
• 23:29
  really
• 23:29
  tough
• 23:30
  situation
• 23:31
  because
• 23:32
  you're
• 23:32
  creating
• 23:33
  sawdust.
• 23:33
  If
• 23:34
  you're
• 23:34
  going
• 23:34
  to
• 23:34
  be
• 23:34
  building
• 23:34
  stuff,
• 23:35
  you're
• 23:36
  going
• 23:36
  to
• 23:36
  be
• 23:36
  painting,
• 23:37
  sanding,
• 23:37
  you
• 23:38
  are
• 23:38
  creating
• 23:38
  a
• 23:39
  heck
• 23:39
  of
• 23:39
  a
• 23:39
  mess.
• 23:40
  And
• 23:40
  by
• 23:41
  doing
• 23:41
  that,
• 23:41
  you
• 23:41
  are
• 23:42
  putting
• 23:42
  that
• 23:42
  particulate
• 23:43
  matter
• 23:43
  in
• 23:43
  the
• 23:43
  house
• 23:44
  and
• 23:45
  that
• 23:45
  is
• 23:45
  going
• 23:45
  to
• 23:45
  really
• 23:45
  throw
• 23:46
  off
• 23:46
  your
• 23:46
  indoor
• 23:47
  air
• 23:47
  quality.
• 23:48
  So
• 23:48
  if
• 23:48
  you
• 23:48
  have
• 23:49
  no
• 23:49
  other
• 23:49
  option
• 23:50
  than
• 23:50
  to
• 23:50
  have
• 23:50
  a
• 23:51
  basement
• 23:51
  workshop,
• 23:52
  then
• 23:52
  maybe
• 23:53
  what
• 23:53
  you
• 23:53
  need
• 23:53
  to
• 23:53
  do
• 23:53
  is
• 23:54
  close
• 23:54
  that
• 23:54
  area
• 23:54
  off
• 23:55
  so
• 23:55
  the
• 23:55
  air
• 23:55
  is
• 23:56
  not
• 23:56
  as
• 23:56
  best
• 23:56
  as
• 23:57
  you
• 23:57
  can.
• 23:57
  Don't
• 23:58
  keep
• 23:58
  that
• 23:58
  air
• 23:58
  in
• 23:58
  the
• 23:58
  basement
• 23:59
  from
• 23:59
  going
• 23:59
  upstairs.
• 24:00
  That's
• 24:01
  where
• 24:01
  you
• 24:01
  need
• 24:01
  to
• 24:01
  have
• 24:02
  dust
• 24:02
  collection.
• 24:03
  You're
• 24:03
  going
• 24:03
  to
• 24:03
  have
• 24:03
  to
• 24:04
  have
• 24:04
  an
• 24:04
  intake
• 24:04
  air.
• 24:04
  You're
• 24:05
  going
• 24:05
  to
• 24:05
  need
• 24:05
  to
• 24:05
  have
• 24:05
  that
• 24:05
  conditioned
• 24:06
  space.
• 24:07
  I
• 24:07
  want
• 24:07
  to
• 24:07
  keep
• 24:07
  that
• 24:08
  as
• 24:08
  separate
• 24:08
  as
• 24:09
  possible
• 24:10
  so
• 24:10
  that
• 24:10
  air
• 24:10
  is
• 24:10
  not
• 24:11
  swapping
• 24:11
  upstairs.
• 24:12
  Because
• 24:12
  when
• 24:13
  you're
• 24:13
  working
• 24:13
  with
• 24:13
  wood,
• 24:14
  some
• 24:14
  woods
• 24:14
  are
• 24:15
  poisonous,
• 24:15
  some
• 24:15
  woods
• 24:16
  can
• 24:16
  be
• 24:16
  irritants.
• 24:17
  And
• 24:17
  there's
• 24:17
  a
• 24:17
  lot
• 24:17
  of
• 24:17
  different
• 24:18
  issues
• 24:18
  going
• 24:18
  on
• 24:18
  there.
• 24:19
  Plus,
• 24:19
  if
• 24:19
  you're
• 24:20
  staining,
• 24:20
  finishing,
• 24:21
  gluing,
• 24:21
  whatever,
• 24:22
  you
• 24:22
  can
• 24:22
  have
• 24:22
  other
• 24:22
  issues.
• 24:23
  So
• 24:23
  I
• 24:24
  want
• 24:24
  to
• 24:24
  make
• 24:24
  sure
• 24:24
  that
• 24:24
  air
• 24:25
  is
• 24:25
  not
• 24:25
  going
• 24:25
  upstairs.
• 24:26
  So
• 24:26
  really
• 24:26
  I
• 24:26
  want
• 24:27
  to
• 24:27
  make
• 24:27
  sure
• 24:27
  that
• 24:27
  I've
• 24:27
  got
• 24:27
  a
• 24:28
  vapor
• 24:28
  barrier
• 24:28
  to
• 24:28
  keep
• 24:29
  that
• 24:29
  air
• 24:29
  from
• 24:30
  going
• 24:30
  upstairs.
• 24:30
  I
• 24:30
  want
• 24:31
  to
• 24:31
  make
• 24:31
  sure
• 24:31
  that
• 24:31
  I
• 24:31
  keep
• 24:31
  the
• 24:31
  sawdust
• 24:32
  downstairs
• 24:33
  with
• 24:33
  the
• 24:33
  workshop
• 24:34
  that
• 24:34
  you're
• 24:34
  building
• 24:35
  things
• 24:35
  out
• 24:35
  of
• 24:35
  wood,
• 24:35
  that's
• 24:36
  really
• 24:36
  what
• 24:36
  I
• 24:36
  want
• 24:36
  to
• 24:36
  make
• 24:36
  sure
• 24:37
  that
• 24:37
  you're
• 24:37
  doing.
• 24:37
  Because
• 24:38
  all
• 24:38
  of
• 24:39
  those
• 24:39
  things
• 24:39
  are
• 24:40
  not
• 24:40
  really
• 24:40
  great
• 24:41
  for
• 24:41
  indoor
• 24:41
  air
• 24:41
  quality.
• 24:43
  So
• 24:43
  when
• 24:43
  in
• 24:44
  doubt,
• 24:44
  put
• 24:44
  it
• 24:44
  in
• 24:44
  an
• 24:45
  outside
• 24:45
  building.
• 24:45
  But
• 24:46
  if
• 24:46
  you're
• 24:46
  doing
• 24:46
  it
• 24:46
  downstairs,
• 24:47
  there
• 24:47
  are
• 24:47
  ways
• 24:48
  of
• 24:48
  doing
• 24:48
  it.
• 24:48
  But
• 24:49
  I
• 24:49
  tell
• 24:49
  you
• 24:49
  what,
• 24:49
  it's
• 24:50
  a
• 24:50
  big
• 24:50
  project,
• 24:51
  so
• 24:51
  just
• 24:51
  make
• 24:51
  sure
• 24:51
  you're
• 24:52
  planning
• 24:52
  that
• 24:52
  out
• 24:52
  correctly.
• 24:53
  Now
• 24:54
  here's
• 24:54
  another
• 24:54
  one
• 24:55
  that
• 24:55
  I've
• 24:55
  seen
• 24:55
  people
• 24:55
  trying
• 24:56
  to
• 24:56
  do
• 24:56
  now
• 24:56
  that
• 24:57
  can
• 24:57
  be
• 24:57
  troublesome
• 24:58
  as
• 24:58
  well.
• 24:58
  And
• 24:58
  this
• 24:58
  why
• 24:59
  this
• 24:59
  goes
• 24:59
  bad
• 25:00
  is
• 25:00
  the
• 25:00
  homes
• 25:00
  that
• 25:00
  I've
• 25:01
  had
• 25:01
  to
• 25:01
  go
• 25:01
  in
• 25:01
  and
• 25:01
  repair
• 25:02
  where
• 25:02
  people
• 25:03
  are
• 25:03
  renting
• 25:03
  out
• 25:04
  homes
• 25:04
  to
• 25:04
  people.
• 25:05
  Maybe
• 25:05
  it's
• 25:05
  a
• 25:05
  two
• 25:06
  story
• 25:06
  house
• 25:06
  and
• 25:06
  all
• 25:06
  of
• 25:07
  a
• 25:07
  sudden
• 25:07
  the
• 25:07
  basement
• 25:07
  turned
• 25:08
  into
• 25:08
  some
• 25:09
  local
• 25:09
  pot
• 25:09
  grow
• 25:10
  operation.
• 25:11
  And
• 25:11
  the
• 25:11
  problem
• 25:12
  is
• 25:12
  the
• 25:12
  humidity
• 25:13
  that
• 25:13
  was
• 25:13
  given
• 25:13
  off
• 25:14
  from
• 25:14
  that
• 25:15
  was
• 25:15
  so
• 25:15
  bad
• 25:16
  that
• 25:16
  we
• 25:17
  ended
• 25:17
  up
• 25:17
  having
• 25:17
  to
• 25:18
  basically
• 25:19
  gut
• 25:19
  the
• 25:19
  house
• 25:20
  to
• 25:20
  the
• 25:20
  studs
• 25:20
  and
• 25:20
  treat
• 25:21
  it
• 25:21
  like
• 25:21
  it
• 25:21
  was
• 25:21
  just
• 25:21
  a
• 25:22
  mold
• 25:22
  house.
• 25:23
  So
• 25:23
  you
• 25:24
  will
• 25:24
  have
• 25:24
  things
• 25:24
  like
• 25:25
  particle
• 25:25
  board
• 25:25
  swelling
• 25:26
  up.
• 25:26
  If
• 25:26
  you've
• 25:27
  got
• 25:27
  thermofoil
• 25:28
  cabinets.
• 25:29
  Thermofoil
• 25:29
  means
• 25:30
  that
• 25:30
  they're
• 25:30
  a
• 25:30
  plastic
• 25:31
  wrapped
• 25:31
  cabinet
• 25:31
  door
• 25:32
  that
• 25:32
  was
• 25:32
  done
• 25:32
  in
• 25:32
  the
• 25:32
  90s
• 25:33
  and
• 25:33
  2000s.
• 25:35
  Those
• 25:35
  will
• 25:36
  swell
• 25:36
  up.
• 25:37
  And
• 25:37
  I
• 25:37
  have
• 25:38
  seen
• 25:39
  particle
• 25:39
  board
• 25:39
  countertops
• 25:40
  swell
• 25:40
  up
• 25:40
  in
• 25:41
  these
• 25:41
  homes.
• 25:41
  Everything
• 25:42
  else.
• 25:43
  And
• 25:43
  so
• 25:43
  do
• 25:44
  not
• 25:44
  build
• 25:45
  a
• 25:45
  basement
• 25:46
  greenhouse
• 25:46
  without
• 25:47
  a
• 25:47
  significant
• 25:48
  dehumidification
• 25:49
  system.
• 25:50
  And
• 25:51
  then
• 25:51
  you're
• 25:51
  just
• 25:51
  better
• 25:51
  doing
• 25:52
  one
• 25:52
  outside
• 25:52
  or
• 25:53
  putting
• 25:53
  in
• 25:53
  if
• 25:53
  you're
• 25:54
  going
• 25:54
  to
• 25:54
  do
• 25:54
  it
• 25:54
  in
• 25:54
  there.
• 25:54
  They
• 25:54
  make
• 25:55
  inflatable
• 25:55
  ones,
• 25:56
  things
• 25:56
  like
• 25:56
  that,
• 25:56
  where
• 25:56
  the
• 25:57
  moisture
• 25:57
  won't
• 25:57
  get
• 25:57
  out.
• 25:58
  Your
• 25:59
  job
• 25:59
  is
• 25:59
  to
• 25:59
  keep
• 25:59
  the
• 26:00
  moisture
• 26:00
  in
• 26:00
  a
• 26:00
  space
• 26:01
  that
• 26:01
  is
• 26:01
  not
• 26:02
  just
• 26:02
  the
• 26:02
  entire
• 26:02
  basement
• 26:03
  because
• 26:03
  you
• 26:03
  want
• 26:03
  to
• 26:03
  keep
• 26:04
  that
• 26:04
  humidity
• 26:05
  down.
• 26:06
  That
• 26:06
  way
• 26:06
  you're
• 26:06
  not
• 26:07
  getting
• 26:07
  that
• 26:08
  mold
• 26:08
  issue.
• 26:08
  And
• 26:09
  if
• 26:09
  you're
• 26:09
  doing
• 26:10
  sprays
• 26:10
  and
• 26:10
  things
• 26:11
  like
• 26:11
  that,
• 26:11
  it
• 26:11
  just,
• 26:11
  it's
• 26:12
  going
• 26:12
  to
• 26:12
  go
• 26:12
  sideways
• 26:13
  on
• 26:13
  you.
• 26:13
  So
• 26:13
  please
• 26:14
  don't
• 26:15
  do
• 26:15
  a
• 26:15
  basement
• 26:16
  greenhouse.
• 26:17
  And
• 26:17
  for
• 26:17
  the
• 26:18
  same
• 26:18
  reason,
• 26:18
  hot
• 26:19
  tubs
• 26:19
  or
• 26:19
  pools
• 26:20
  or
• 26:20
  things
• 26:20
  like
• 26:20
  that,
• 26:21
  those
• 26:21
  need
• 26:21
  to
• 26:22
  be
• 26:22
  designed
• 26:22
  out
• 26:22
  by
• 26:23
  an
• 26:23
  engineer
• 26:23
  to
• 26:23
  make
• 26:24
  sure
• 26:24
  that
• 26:24
  you
• 26:24
  have,
• 26:24
  if
• 26:25
  you're
• 26:25
  putting
• 26:25
  a
• 26:25
  hot
• 26:25
  tub
• 26:25
  in
• 26:26
  the
• 26:26
  basement,
• 26:27
  that
• 26:27
  you
• 26:27
  have
• 26:28
  adequate
• 26:28
  ventilation,
• 26:29
  that
• 26:29
  you're
• 26:30
  not
• 26:30
  creating
• 26:30
  a
• 26:30
  mold
• 26:30
  problem
• 26:31
  down
• 26:31
  there,
• 26:31
  because
• 26:32
  I
• 26:32
  guarantee
• 26:32
  you
• 26:32
  you
• 26:32
  will
• 26:33
  unless
• 26:34
  you
• 26:34
  deal
• 26:34
  with
• 26:34
  it.
• 26:35
  So
• 26:35
  in
• 26:35
  that
• 26:36
  situation,
• 26:36
  what
• 26:36
  I'd
• 26:37
  like
• 26:37
  for
• 26:37
  you
• 26:37
  to
• 26:37
  do
• 26:37
  if,
• 26:37
  hey,
• 26:38
  I'M
• 26:38
  gonna
• 26:38
  put
• 26:38
  a
• 26:38
  pool
• 26:39
  in
• 26:39
  the
• 26:39
  basement,
• 26:39
  I'm
• 26:39
  gonna
• 26:40
  put
• 26:40
  a
• 26:40
  hot
• 26:40
  tub
• 26:41
  in
• 26:41
  the
• 26:41
  basement,
• 26:41
  whatever.
• 26:42
  Maybe
• 26:42
  you're
• 26:43
  in
• 26:43
  a
• 26:43
  climate
• 26:43
  where
• 26:43
  that
• 26:44
  makes
• 26:44
  sense.
• 26:45
  This
• 26:45
  is
• 26:46
  where
• 26:46
  you
• 26:47
  bring
• 26:47
  in
• 26:47
  the
• 26:47
  engineer
• 26:48
  to
• 26:48
  engineer
• 26:49
  a
• 26:49
  ventilation
• 26:50
  system
• 26:51
  that's
• 26:51
  going
• 26:51
  to
• 26:52
  work,
• 26:52
  that's
• 26:52
  going
• 26:53
  to
• 26:53
  dehumidify
• 26:54
  and
• 26:54
  it's
• 26:54
  gonna
• 26:55
  control
• 26:55
  that
• 26:55
  so
• 26:55
  you
• 26:55
  don't
• 26:56
  have
• 26:56
  a
• 26:56
  mold
• 26:56
  issue
• 26:56
  down
• 26:56
  there.
• 26:57
  So
• 26:57
  those
• 26:57
  are
• 26:58
  all
• 26:58
  keys
• 26:58
  that
• 26:58
  I
• 26:58
  want
• 26:58
  you
• 26:59
  to
• 26:59
  think
• 26:59
  about
• 26:59
  in
• 27:00
  this
• 27:00
  process.
• 27:01
  When
• 27:01
  in
• 27:02
  doubt,
• 27:03
  try
• 27:03
  not
• 27:03
  to
• 27:03
  be
• 27:04
  doing
• 27:04
  those
• 27:04
  things
• 27:04
  inside
• 27:05
  the
• 27:05
  house
• 27:05
  because
• 27:06
  that
• 27:06
  will
• 27:07
  really
• 27:08
  do
• 27:08
  a
• 27:09
  lot
• 27:09
  of
• 27:09
  damage
• 27:10
  that
• 27:10
  are
• 27:10
  hard
• 27:10
  to
• 27:10
  recover
• 27:11
  from.
• 27:11
  So
• 27:12
  please
• 27:12
  spend
• 27:12
  a
• 27:12
  little
• 27:12
  time
• 27:12
  on
• 27:13
  that
• 27:13
  and
• 27:13
  you'll
• 27:14
  be
• 27:14
  a.
• 27:14
  Okay.
• 27:15
  Now
• 27:16
  one
• 27:16
  of
• 27:16
  the
• 27:16
  other
• 27:16
  things
• 27:16
  I
• 27:16
  want
• 27:17
  to
• 27:17
  talk
• 27:17
  about
• 27:17
  here
• 27:17
  is
• 27:18
  that
• 27:18
  you
• 27:18
  can
• 27:18
  jump
• 27:18
  on
• 27:19
  Amazon
• 27:19
  and
• 27:20
  buy
• 27:20
  really
• 27:21
  inexpensive
• 27:21
  vacuums.
• 27:23
  In
• 27:23
  investing
• 27:23
  in
• 27:24
  a
• 27:24
  good
• 27:24
  HEPA
• 27:25
  rated
• 27:25
  vacuum
• 27:26
  is
• 27:26
  key
• 27:27
  because
• 27:27
  if
• 27:27
  you're
• 27:28
  vacuuming
• 27:28
  up
• 27:28
  pet
• 27:29
  hair
• 27:29
  or
• 27:29
  you've
• 27:30
  got
• 27:30
  lots
• 27:30
  of
• 27:30
  carpets,
• 27:31
  you
• 27:32
  want
• 27:32
  to
• 27:32
  have
• 27:32
  something
• 27:32
  that's
• 27:32
  going
• 27:33
  to
• 27:33
  really
• 27:33
  work
• 27:33
  well
• 27:34
  and
• 27:35
  pull
• 27:35
  as
• 27:35
  much
• 27:36
  dirt,
• 27:37
  dander,
• 27:38
  hair,
• 27:39
  whatever
• 27:40
  out
• 27:40
  of
• 27:40
  that
• 27:40
  carpet.
• 27:41
  So
• 27:41
  these
• 27:42
  are
• 27:42
  things
• 27:42
  that
• 27:42
  I
• 27:42
  really
• 27:43
  want
• 27:43
  you
• 27:43
  to
• 27:43
  think
• 27:43
  about
• 27:44
  getting
• 27:44
  a
• 27:44
  good
• 27:44
  system.
• 27:45
  There's
• 27:45
  some
• 27:45
  nice.
• 27:46
  If
• 27:46
  you're
• 27:46
  building
• 27:46
  a
• 27:46
  new
• 27:47
  house,
• 27:47
  I've
• 27:47
  seen
• 27:47
  people
• 27:48
  put
• 27:48
  in
• 27:48
  the
• 27:48
  automatic
• 27:49
  systems
• 27:50
  where
• 27:50
  you've
• 27:51
  got
• 27:51
  the
• 27:51
  whole
• 27:51
  house
• 27:51
  ventilation
• 27:52
  system
• 27:52
  for
• 27:53
  the
• 27:53
  vacuum.
• 27:53
  So
• 27:53
  you've
• 27:54
  got
• 27:54
  a
• 27:54
  built
• 27:54
  in
• 27:54
  vacuum
• 27:55
  system
• 27:55
  where
• 27:55
  you
• 27:55
  got
• 27:55
  the
• 27:55
  ports
• 27:56
  in
• 27:56
  the
• 27:56
  walls,
• 27:57
  that
• 27:57
  kind
• 27:57
  of
• 27:57
  system.
• 27:58
  Those
• 27:58
  can
• 27:58
  be
• 27:59
  great
• 27:59
  because
• 27:59
  it
• 27:59
  puts
• 27:59
  the
• 28:00
  situation
• 28:00
  out
• 28:00
  in
• 28:00
  the
• 28:01
  garage
• 28:01
  out
• 28:01
  there
• 28:01
  where
• 28:02
  the
• 28:02
  bag
• 28:02
  and
• 28:02
  stuff
• 28:02
  is.
• 28:03
  But
• 28:03
  I
• 28:03
  really
• 28:04
  like
• 28:04
  bag
• 28:04
  systems
• 28:05
  better.
• 28:05
  There's
• 28:06
  nothing
• 28:06
  wrong
• 28:06
  with
• 28:06
  a
• 28:06
  good
• 28:06
  Dyson
• 28:07
  vacuum,
• 28:07
  but
• 28:08
  to
• 28:08
  me,
• 28:08
  I
• 28:09
  really
• 28:09
  like
• 28:09
  a
• 28:10
  good
• 28:10
  vacuum
• 28:11
  bag
• 28:11
  with
• 28:11
  a
• 28:12
  HEPA
• 28:12
  filtration
• 28:13
  system
• 28:13
  in
• 28:13
  it.
• 28:13
  It's
• 28:14
  going
• 28:14
  to
• 28:14
  work
• 28:14
  so
• 28:14
  much
• 28:14
  better
• 28:15
  and
• 28:15
  it's
• 28:15
  really
• 28:16
  going
• 28:16
  to
• 28:16
  filter
• 28:16
  out
• 28:16
  the
• 28:16
  dust.
• 28:17
  So
• 28:17
  when
• 28:17
  you
• 28:17
  capture
• 28:18
  the
• 28:18
  dust
• 28:18
  in
• 28:18
  it,
• 28:18
  it's
• 28:19
  going
• 28:19
  to
• 28:19
  stay
• 28:19
  in
• 28:19
  there
• 28:20
  versus
• 28:20
  kicking
• 28:21
  a
• 28:21
  little
• 28:21
  bit
• 28:21
  out.
• 28:22
  So
• 28:22
  those
• 28:23
  are
• 28:23
  all
• 28:23
  things
• 28:23
  to
• 28:23
  consider
• 28:24
  when
• 28:24
  looking
• 28:25
  at
• 28:25
  vacuums.
• 28:25
  But
• 28:25
  vacuums
• 28:26
  are
• 28:26
  an
• 28:26
  important
• 28:27
  part
• 28:27
  of
• 28:27
  this
• 28:27
  whole
• 28:27
  entire
• 28:28
  system
• 28:29
  and
• 28:29
  making
• 28:29
  sure
• 28:30
  that
• 28:30
  you've
• 28:30
  got
• 28:30
  things
• 28:30
  clean.
• 28:32
  All
• 28:32
  right,
• 28:32
  everybody,
• 28:32
  that's
• 28:33
  enough
• 28:33
  about
• 28:33
  indoor
• 28:34
  air
• 28:34
  quality
• 28:35
  for
• 28:35
  today.
• 28:36
  The
• 28:36
  rest
• 28:36
  of
• 28:36
  this
• 28:37
  I
• 28:37
  wanted
• 28:37
  to
• 28:37
  talk
• 28:37
  about
• 28:38
  building
• 28:38
  codes,
• 28:39
  building
• 28:39
  permits,
• 28:40
  building
• 28:41
  inspections,
• 28:43
  whether
• 28:43
  remodeling
• 28:44
  or
• 28:45
  you're
• 28:45
  having
• 28:46
  a
• 28:46
  new
• 28:46
  house
• 28:46
  built.
• 28:46
  And
• 28:47
  especially
• 28:48
  if
• 28:49
  you're
• 28:49
  having
• 28:49
  a
• 28:49
  new
• 28:49
  house
• 28:49
  built.
• 28:50
  Because
• 28:51
  let's
• 28:51
  talk
• 28:51
  about
• 28:52
  it
• 28:52
  here
• 28:52
  in
• 28:52
  the
• 28:52
  United
• 28:52
  States
• 28:53
  building
• 28:53
  code
• 28:55
  and
• 28:56
  generally
• 28:56
  it
• 28:57
  is
• 28:57
  stricter
• 28:57
  than
• 28:57
  what
• 28:58
  is
• 28:58
  in
• 28:58
  Canada.
• 28:58
  From
• 28:59
  what
• 28:59
  I've
• 28:59
  seen
• 28:59
  and
• 29:00
  Please
• 29:00
  feel
• 29:01
  free
• 29:01
  to
• 29:01
  send
• 29:01
  me
• 29:02
  more
• 29:02
  information
• 29:02
  if
• 29:03
  you
• 29:03
  think
• 29:03
  of
• 29:03
  the
• 29:04
  contrary,
• 29:05
  because
• 29:05
  I'm
• 29:05
  not
• 29:05
  operating
• 29:06
  up
• 29:06
  in
• 29:06
  Canada
• 29:06
  every
• 29:07
  day.
• 29:07
  But
• 29:07
  usually
• 29:08
  we
• 29:08
  have
• 29:08
  stricter
• 29:09
  code
• 29:09
  here
• 29:09
  in
• 29:09
  many
• 29:10
  instances
• 29:10
  than
• 29:10
  in
• 29:10
  Canada.
• 29:11
  Of
• 29:11
  course
• 29:11
  there's
• 29:11
  got
• 29:12
  to
• 29:12
  be
• 29:12
  some
• 29:12
  exceptions,
• 29:12
  but
• 29:13
  generally
• 29:14
  that's
• 29:14
  the
• 29:14
  case.
• 29:16
  But
• 29:16
  here's
• 29:16
  the
• 29:16
  problem
• 29:17
  that
• 29:17
  I
• 29:17
  have.
• 29:17
  Building
• 29:18
  code
• 29:18
  is
• 29:18
  great
• 29:19
  for
• 29:19
  your
• 29:19
  health,
• 29:20
  safety
• 29:21
  and
• 29:21
  welfare.
• 29:22
  They
• 29:22
  make
• 29:22
  you
• 29:23
  put
• 29:23
  in
• 29:23
  GFCI
• 29:24
  outlets.
• 29:24
  They
• 29:25
  make
• 29:25
  you
• 29:25
  put
• 29:25
  in
• 29:26
  many
• 29:26
  cases
• 29:26
  in
• 29:27
  most
• 29:27
  states
• 29:27
  here
• 29:27
  in
• 29:27
  the
• 29:27
  US
• 29:28
  bath
• 29:29
  fans
• 29:29
  that
• 29:29
  go
• 29:29
  to
• 29:29
  the
• 29:30
  outside,
• 29:30
  ventilation
• 29:31
  and
• 29:31
  that
• 29:31
  load
• 29:32
  is
• 29:32
  carried
• 29:32
  correctly.
• 29:34
  But
• 29:34
  I
• 29:34
  have
• 29:35
  seen
• 29:35
  plenty
• 29:36
  of
• 29:36
  homes
• 29:37
  that
• 29:38
  met
• 29:38
  building
• 29:38
  code,
• 29:40
  that
• 29:40
  were
• 29:40
  horribly
• 29:41
  constructed.
• 29:42
  As
• 29:43
  far
• 29:43
  as
• 29:43
  craftsmanship.
• 29:45
  I
• 29:45
  have
• 29:45
  been
• 29:45
  to
• 29:46
  homes
• 29:46
  that
• 29:46
  had
• 29:47
  massive
• 29:48
  bows
• 29:48
  and
• 29:49
  a
• 29:49
  wall.
• 29:50
  Everything
• 29:50
  is
• 29:50
  out
• 29:51
  of
• 29:51
  square,
• 29:52
  nothing
• 29:53
  is
• 29:53
  right.
• 29:54
  But
• 29:54
  it
• 29:54
  perfectly
• 29:55
  met
• 29:55
  building
• 29:56
  code
• 29:56
  because
• 29:57
  it
• 29:57
  was
• 29:58
  a
• 29:58
  safe
• 29:58
  structure.
• 29:59
  It
• 30:00
  just
• 30:00
  looked
• 30:01
  absolutely
• 30:02
  horrible.
• 30:03
  And
• 30:04
  so
• 30:04
  that's
• 30:04
  where
• 30:04
  the
• 30:04
  issue
• 30:05
  comes
• 30:05
  in
• 30:05
  when
• 30:05
  you're
• 30:06
  building
• 30:06
  a
• 30:06
  home,
• 30:07
  if
• 30:07
  you
• 30:07
  are
• 30:08
  having
• 30:08
  a
• 30:08
  house
• 30:09
  built.
• 30:09
  And
• 30:09
  this
• 30:09
  is
• 30:10
  what
• 30:10
  I
• 30:10
  wanted
• 30:10
  to
• 30:10
  talk
• 30:10
  about
• 30:11
  a
• 30:11
  little
• 30:11
  bit
• 30:11
  today
• 30:12
  in
• 30:12
  this
• 30:12
  segment
• 30:13
  and
• 30:13
  the
• 30:13
  next
• 30:14
  is
• 30:15
  that
• 30:15
  a
• 30:15
  building
• 30:15
  inspector
• 30:17
  should
• 30:17
  be
• 30:17
  involved
• 30:17
  in
• 30:18
  this
• 30:18
  process.
• 30:19
  Now
• 30:19
  I'm
• 30:20
  not
• 30:20
  talking
• 30:20
  about
• 30:20
  the
• 30:21
  city,
• 30:21
  county,
• 30:21
  state,
• 30:22
  whoever
• 30:22
  is
• 30:23
  is
• 30:23
  implementing
• 30:24
  your
• 30:24
  code,
• 30:25
  but
• 30:25
  you
• 30:25
  should
• 30:25
  have
• 30:26
  benchmarks
• 30:26
  at
• 30:26
  which
• 30:27
  your
• 30:27
  third
• 30:28
  party
• 30:28
  inspector
• 30:29
  comes
• 30:29
  in
• 30:29
  and
• 30:29
  looks
• 30:29
  at
• 30:30
  things.
• 30:31
  Now
• 30:31
  here's
• 30:32
  the
• 30:32
  issue.
• 30:33
  We
• 30:33
  do
• 30:33
  not
• 30:33
  have
• 30:34
  a
• 30:35
  general
• 30:35
  building
• 30:36
  inspector
• 30:37
  code
• 30:37
  across
• 30:37
  the
• 30:37
  country.
• 30:39
  So
• 30:39
  some
• 30:39
  states
• 30:40
  you
• 30:40
  have
• 30:41
  to
• 30:41
  be
• 30:41
  very
• 30:42
  well
• 30:42
  educated,
• 30:43
  you
• 30:43
  have
• 30:43
  to
• 30:43
  have
• 30:43
  taken
• 30:44
  tests.
• 30:45
  Other
• 30:45
  states,
• 30:46
  it's
• 30:46
  a
• 30:46
  free
• 30:46
  for
• 30:47
  all.
• 30:48
  Now,
• 30:48
  in
• 30:48
  many
• 30:49
  states,
• 30:50
  the
• 30:50
  liability
• 30:51
  of
• 30:51
  that
• 30:51
  building
• 30:51
  inspector
• 30:52
  that
• 30:52
  you're
• 30:53
  paying
• 30:53
  to
• 30:53
  have
• 30:53
  a
• 30:53
  house
• 30:54
  inspection
• 30:54
  done,
• 30:56
  their
• 30:56
  liability
• 30:57
  in
• 30:57
  many
• 30:57
  states
• 30:58
  is
• 30:58
  only
• 30:58
  the
• 30:59
  cost
• 30:59
  of
• 30:59
  what
• 31:00
  you
• 31:00
  paid
• 31:00
  them.
• 31:01
  So
• 31:01
  if
• 31:02
  you
• 31:02
  paid
• 31:02
  them
• 31:02
  $500
• 31:03
  to
• 31:03
  come
• 31:03
  out
• 31:03
  and
• 31:04
  do
• 31:04
  a
• 31:04
  full
• 31:04
  inspection,
• 31:05
  their
• 31:06
  liability
• 31:06
  is
• 31:07
  $500.
• 31:08
  Unfortunately
• 31:09
  for
• 31:09
  you,
• 31:11
  you
• 31:11
  don't
• 31:11
  have
• 31:11
  much
• 31:12
  recourse.
• 31:12
  And
• 31:12
  so
• 31:13
  that's
• 31:13
  something
• 31:13
  to
• 31:13
  consider
• 31:14
  with
• 31:14
  all
• 31:14
  this.
• 31:15
  But
• 31:15
  there
• 31:15
  are
• 31:16
  a
• 31:16
  lot
• 31:16
  of
• 31:16
  great
• 31:17
  building
• 31:17
  inspectors
• 31:18
  out
• 31:18
  there
• 31:19
  that
• 31:19
  care
• 31:19
  about
• 31:20
  their
• 31:20
  work,
• 31:21
  that
• 31:21
  know
• 31:21
  what
• 31:21
  they're
• 31:22
  doing
• 31:22
  and
• 31:23
  are
• 31:23
  trying
• 31:23
  to
• 31:23
  hold
• 31:24
  people
• 31:24
  accountable
• 31:25
  for
• 31:25
  building
• 31:25
  things
• 31:26
  correctly.
• 31:27
  Now
• 31:28
  that
• 31:28
  is
• 31:28
  the
• 31:29
  issue
• 31:29
  here,
• 31:29
  is
• 31:30
  that
• 31:30
  you
• 31:30
  want
• 31:30
  to
• 31:30
  make
• 31:30
  sure
• 31:31
  that
• 31:31
  everything
• 31:31
  was
• 31:32
  installed
• 31:32
  correctly
• 31:33
  because
• 31:33
  you
• 31:33
  can
• 31:34
  have
• 31:34
  a
• 31:34
  shower
• 31:35
  built
• 31:36
  to
• 31:36
  building
• 31:36
  code
• 31:37
  and
• 31:37
  still
• 31:38
  have
• 31:38
  a
• 31:38
  leak.
• 31:39
  You
• 31:39
  can
• 31:40
  have
• 31:40
  ventilation
• 31:41
  systems
• 31:42
  that
• 31:42
  don't
• 31:42
  work
• 31:42
  that
• 31:42
  meet
• 31:43
  code
• 31:43
  or
• 31:44
  undersized
• 31:45
  oversized
• 31:46
  H
• 31:46
  vac
• 31:47
  systems.
• 31:47
  You
• 31:47
  see
• 31:47
  where
• 31:47
  I'm
• 31:48
  going
• 31:48
  here.
• 31:48
  Now
• 31:49
  when
• 31:49
  we
• 31:49
  come
• 31:49
  back,
• 31:49
  we'll
• 31:50
  talk
• 31:50
  a
• 31:50
  little
• 31:50
  bit
• 31:50
  more
• 31:50
  about
• 31:51
  the
• 31:51
  places
• 31:52
  and
• 31:52
  I
• 31:52
  think
• 31:52
  the
• 31:52
  times
• 31:53
  that
• 31:53
  you
• 31:53
  should
• 31:53
  have
• 31:53
  those
• 31:53
  inspections,
• 31:54
  we'll
• 31:54
  do
• 31:55
  that
• 31:55
  Just
• 31:55
  as
• 31:55
  soon
• 31:55
  as
• 31:55
  around
• 31:56
  the
• 31:56
  House
• 31:56
  returns.
• 33:52
  All
• 33:52
  right.
• 34:00
  Welcome
• 34:01
  back
• 34:01
  to
• 34:01
  the
• 34:01
  around
• 34:01
  the
• 34:02
  house
• 34:02
  show.
• 34:03
  Today
• 34:03
  we're
• 34:04
  bringing
• 34:04
  you
• 34:04
  a
• 34:04
  special
• 34:05
  best
• 34:05
  of
• 34:05
  episode
• 34:06
  from
• 34:06
  December
• 34:07
  2023,
• 34:09
  packed
• 34:09
  with
• 34:10
  our
• 34:10
  favorite
• 34:10
  tips
• 34:11
  and
• 34:11
  moments.
• 34:12
  Eric
• 34:12
  and
• 34:12
  John
• 34:13
  are
• 34:13
  taking
• 34:13
  a
• 34:13
  quick
• 34:14
  break
• 34:14
  to
• 34:14
  remodel
• 34:15
  and
• 34:15
  refresh
• 34:15
  the
• 34:16
  show.
• 34:17
  Don't
• 34:17
  worry.
• 34:18
  They're
• 34:18
  keeping
• 34:18
  everything
• 34:19
  you
• 34:19
  love
• 34:19
  about
• 34:20
  around
• 34:20
  the
• 34:20
  house.
• 34:21
  And
• 34:21
  we
• 34:21
  will
• 34:21
  all
• 34:21
  be
• 34:22
  back
• 34:22
  next
• 34:22
  week
• 34:22
  with
• 34:23
  a
• 34:23
  refreshingly
• 34:23
  new
• 34:24
  show.
• 34:24
  Welcome
• 34:25
  back
• 34:25
  to
• 34:25
  the
• 34:25
  around
• 34:25
  the
• 34:26
  house
• 34:26
  show.
• 34:26
  This
• 34:26
  is
• 34:26
  where
• 34:26
  we
• 34:26
  help
• 34:26
  you
• 34:26
  get
• 34:27
  the
• 34:27
  the
• 34:27
  most
• 34:27
  out
• 34:27
  of
• 34:27
  your
• 34:27
  home
• 34:27
  through
• 34:28
  information
• 34:28
  and
• 34:28
  education.
• 34:29
  Earlier
• 34:30
  in
• 34:30
  this
• 34:30
  hour,
• 34:30
  we
• 34:30
  were
• 34:31
  sure
• 34:31
  talking
• 34:31
  about
• 34:32
  healthy
• 34:32
  air
• 34:32
  in
• 34:32
  your
• 34:33
  home,
• 34:33
  and
• 34:33
  now
• 34:33
  we're
• 34:33
  talking
• 34:33
  about
• 34:34
  having
• 34:34
  those
• 34:34
  inspections
• 34:35
  done
• 34:35
  correctly.
• 34:36
  And
• 34:37
  that
• 34:37
  is
• 34:37
  an
• 34:37
  inspector
• 34:38
  that
• 34:38
  is
• 34:38
  really
• 34:39
  making
• 34:39
  sure
• 34:39
  that
• 34:40
  the
• 34:40
  home
• 34:40
  that
• 34:40
  you're
• 34:41
  purchasing,
• 34:41
  building,
• 34:42
  or
• 34:42
  whatever
• 34:43
  has
• 34:43
  been
• 34:43
  done
• 34:44
  correctly.
• 34:45
  Now,
• 34:45
  if
• 34:46
  you're
• 34:46
  having
• 34:46
  a
• 34:46
  house
• 34:46
  built
• 34:47
  or
• 34:47
  even
• 34:48
  having
• 34:49
  things
• 34:50
  remodeled,
• 34:51
  I
• 34:51
  like
• 34:51
  to
• 34:51
  have
• 34:52
  certain
• 34:52
  stages
• 34:53
  that
• 34:53
  makes
• 34:54
  sense
• 34:54
  to
• 34:54
  me.
• 34:55
  As
• 34:55
  a
• 34:56
  minimum,
• 34:56
  I
• 34:56
  would
• 34:57
  like
• 34:57
  to
• 34:57
  see
• 34:58
  an
• 34:58
  inspector
• 34:59
  come
• 34:59
  by
• 34:59
  and
• 35:00
  check
• 35:00
  out
• 35:01
  rough
• 35:01
  framing
• 35:02
  for
• 35:02
  you.
• 35:03
  And
• 35:03
  if
• 35:03
  you
• 35:03
  really
• 35:04
  want
• 35:04
  to
• 35:04
  be
• 35:04
  found
• 35:04
  somebody
• 35:05
  good,
• 35:05
  if
• 35:05
  they
• 35:05
  want
• 35:06
  to
• 35:06
  pop
• 35:06
  in
• 35:07
  right
• 35:07
  before
• 35:07
  the
• 35:08
  concrete
• 35:08
  pour
• 35:09
  for
• 35:09
  the
• 35:09
  foundation
• 35:10
  or
• 35:10
  slab
• 35:10
  on
• 35:11
  grade,
• 35:12
  that
• 35:12
  would
• 35:12
  be
• 35:12
  amazing
• 35:13
  because
• 35:14
  so
• 35:15
  many
• 35:15
  times
• 35:15
  I
• 35:16
  have
• 35:16
  seen
• 35:16
  concrete
• 35:17
  pours
• 35:18
  that
• 35:19
  the
• 35:19
  builder
• 35:19
  got
• 35:20
  really
• 35:21
  lazy
• 35:21
  on.
• 35:22
  And
• 35:22
  there's
• 35:22
  a
• 35:22
  lot
• 35:22
  of
• 35:23
  great
• 35:23
  builders,
• 35:23
  but
• 35:23
  there's
• 35:24
  a
• 35:24
  lot
• 35:24
  of
• 35:24
  not
• 35:24
  so
• 35:25
  great
• 35:25
  builders
• 35:25
  as
• 35:26
  well.
• 35:26
  And
• 35:26
  maybe
• 35:27
  the
• 35:27
  builder
• 35:27
  is
• 35:27
  great,
• 35:28
  but
• 35:28
  his
• 35:28
  subcontractor
• 35:29
  wasn't
• 35:29
  paying
• 35:29
  attention.
• 35:30
  I
• 35:30
  have
• 35:30
  showed
• 35:30
  up
• 35:31
  at
• 35:31
  a
• 35:32
  job
• 35:32
  site
• 35:32
  that
• 35:32
  I
• 35:32
  was
• 35:32
  watching
• 35:33
  because
• 35:33
  I
• 35:33
  had
• 35:33
  a
• 35:33
  friend's
• 35:34
  house
• 35:34
  getting
• 35:34
  built
• 35:36
  popped
• 35:36
  up
• 35:37
  in
• 35:37
  this
• 35:37
  development,
• 35:37
  a
• 35:38
  very
• 35:38
  large
• 35:38
  home
• 35:39
  builder,
• 35:40
  and
• 35:40
  they're
• 35:40
  pouring
• 35:41
  the
• 35:41
  driveway
• 35:42
  and
• 35:42
  the
• 35:42
  garage.
• 35:43
  And
• 35:44
  I'm
• 35:44
  watching
• 35:44
  this
• 35:45
  happen.
• 35:46
  And
• 35:46
  it's
• 35:46
  in
• 35:46
  the
• 35:46
  middle
• 35:46
  of
• 35:46
  summertime
• 35:48
  and
• 35:48
  the
• 35:48
  ground
• 35:49
  is
• 35:50
  so
• 35:50
  dry
• 35:51
  that
• 35:51
  when
• 35:51
  the
• 35:51
  concrete
• 35:52
  is
• 35:52
  hitting,
• 35:52
  no,
• 35:53
  they
• 35:53
  didn't
• 35:53
  put
• 35:53
  gravel
• 35:54
  down.
• 35:54
  They
• 35:54
  didn't
• 35:54
  do
• 35:54
  any
• 35:54
  base.
• 35:55
  They
• 35:55
  didn't
• 35:55
  do
• 35:55
  anything.
• 35:56
  They're
• 35:56
  just
• 35:56
  pouring
• 35:56
  it
• 35:56
  right
• 35:57
  over
• 35:57
  the
• 35:57
  terrain.
• 35:59
  It
• 35:59
  was
• 35:59
  so
• 35:59
  dry
• 36:00
  that
• 36:00
  it
• 36:00
  was
• 36:00
  putting
• 36:00
  dust
• 36:01
  clouds
• 36:01
  up
• 36:02
  when
• 36:03
  the
• 36:03
  concrete
• 36:03
  was
• 36:03
  hitting.
• 36:04
  And
• 36:05
  you
• 36:05
  know
• 36:05
  something,
• 36:06
  if
• 36:06
  there's
• 36:06
  not
• 36:06
  an
• 36:06
  inspector
• 36:07
  there,
• 36:07
  nobody
• 36:08
  knows
• 36:08
  any
• 36:08
  different.
• 36:09
  But
• 36:09
  that
• 36:10
  dry
• 36:10
  ground
• 36:10
  is
• 36:11
  going
• 36:11
  to
• 36:11
  suck
• 36:11
  all
• 36:12
  the
• 36:12
  moisture
• 36:12
  out
• 36:12
  and
• 36:13
  that
• 36:13
  concrete
• 36:13
  is
• 36:13
  not
• 36:14
  going
• 36:14
  to
• 36:14
  cure
• 36:14
  correctly.
• 36:15
  And
• 36:16
  because
• 36:16
  they
• 36:16
  didn't
• 36:16
  do
• 36:16
  the
• 36:17
  right
• 36:17
  base,
• 36:17
  it's
• 36:17
  not
• 36:18
  compacted
• 36:18
  correctly.
• 36:19
  That's
• 36:19
  gonna
• 36:20
  flake,
• 36:20
  crack,
• 36:21
  crumble,
• 36:22
  and
• 36:22
  you've
• 36:22
  got
• 36:23
  a
• 36:23
  hot
• 36:23
  mess
• 36:23
  going.
• 36:24
  So
• 36:25
  these
• 36:25
  are
• 36:25
  the
• 36:25
  things
• 36:25
  that
• 36:26
  I
• 36:26
  would
• 36:26
  really
• 36:26
  like
• 36:27
  to
• 36:27
  see
• 36:28
  done.
• 36:28
  I
• 36:28
  want
• 36:28
  to
• 36:29
  see
• 36:30
  these
• 36:30
  things
• 36:30
  taken
• 36:31
  a
• 36:31
  look
• 36:31
  at
• 36:32
  by
• 36:32
  Somebody
• 36:33
  that
• 36:33
  is
• 36:33
  a
• 36:33
  third
• 36:33
  party
• 36:34
  inspector.
• 36:34
  And
• 36:35
  there's
• 36:35
  a
• 36:35
  lot
• 36:35
  of
• 36:35
  good
• 36:35
  ones
• 36:36
  out
• 36:36
  there.
• 36:36
  So
• 36:37
  framing,
• 36:37
  they're
• 36:37
  gonna
• 36:38
  go
• 36:38
  through
• 36:38
  and
• 36:38
  make
• 36:38
  sure
• 36:38
  that
• 36:39
  corners
• 36:39
  weren't
• 36:39
  cut.
• 36:40
  Sometimes
• 36:41
  something
• 36:41
  I'll
• 36:41
  meet
• 36:41
  building
• 36:42
  code,
• 36:43
  but
• 36:43
  there's
• 36:43
  a
• 36:43
  massive
• 36:44
  gap
• 36:44
  there,
• 36:44
  or
• 36:45
  it
• 36:45
  meets
• 36:46
  code,
• 36:46
  or
• 36:46
  the
• 36:46
  walls
• 36:47
  aren't
• 36:47
  straight.
• 36:48
  I'd
• 36:48
  like
• 36:48
  to
• 36:48
  see
• 36:48
  somebody
• 36:48
  walk
• 36:49
  around
• 36:49
  and
• 36:49
  put
• 36:49
  a
• 36:49
  level
• 36:49
  on
• 36:50
  things.
• 36:51
  Great
• 36:51
  example.
• 36:51
  I
• 36:52
  saw
• 36:52
  a
• 36:52
  house
• 36:52
  that
• 36:52
  had
• 36:52
  met
• 36:53
  building
• 36:53
  code
• 36:53
  that
• 36:53
  was
• 36:54
  here
• 36:54
  in
• 36:54
  Oregon.
• 36:54
  It
• 36:54
  was
• 36:54
  in
• 36:54
  eastern
• 36:55
  Oregon
• 36:55
  that
• 36:55
  I
• 36:55
  went
• 36:55
  down
• 36:56
  to
• 36:56
  take
• 36:56
  a
• 36:56
  look
• 36:56
  at,
• 36:57
  and
• 36:57
  this
• 36:58
  house
• 36:58
  was
• 36:58
  being
• 36:58
  built.
• 37:00
  Now,
• 37:01
  it
• 37:01
  was
• 37:01
  one
• 37:01
  of
• 37:02
  the
• 37:02
  foam
• 37:02
  concrete
• 37:03
  poured
• 37:03
  houses.
• 37:04
  So
• 37:04
  they
• 37:04
  put
• 37:05
  the
• 37:05
  Lego
• 37:05
  blocks
• 37:05
  together,
• 37:06
  one
• 37:06
  of
• 37:06
  the
• 37:06
  ICF
• 37:07
  houses,
• 37:08
  and
• 37:08
  they
• 37:08
  were
• 37:08
  building
• 37:08
  this.
• 37:10
  Now
• 37:10
  here's
• 37:11
  what's
• 37:11
  crazy
• 37:11
  with
• 37:11
  this.
• 37:13
  They
• 37:13
  poured
• 37:13
  it
• 37:13
  on
• 37:14
  a
• 37:14
  windy
• 37:14
  day.
• 37:16
  That
• 37:17
  foam
• 37:18
  block
• 37:18
  wall
• 37:19
  that
• 37:19
  was
• 37:19
  hollow,
• 37:20
  that
• 37:20
  had
• 37:20
  concrete
• 37:20
  going
• 37:21
  in,
• 37:21
  it
• 37:22
  had
• 37:22
  a
• 37:22
  curvature
• 37:23
  of
• 37:23
  a
• 37:23
  sail
• 37:24
  on
• 37:24
  the
• 37:24
  back
• 37:24
  of
• 37:24
  the
• 37:25
  house.
• 37:25
  He
• 37:26
  was
• 37:26
  at
• 37:26
  4
• 37:26
  inches
• 37:27
  in
• 37:27
  the
• 37:27
  middle.
• 37:28
  Problem
• 37:28
  is,
• 37:29
  nobody
• 37:29
  caught
• 37:30
  it.
• 37:30
  House
• 37:30
  got
• 37:30
  built.
• 37:31
  Somebody
• 37:32
  walks
• 37:32
  out
• 37:32
  there
• 37:32
  and
• 37:32
  goes,
• 37:32
  what
• 37:33
  is
• 37:33
  going
• 37:33
  on
• 37:33
  with
• 37:33
  this
• 37:34
  wall?
• 37:34
  It
• 37:34
  perfectly
• 37:34
  met
• 37:35
  building
• 37:35
  code.
• 37:36
  There
• 37:36
  was
• 37:36
  nothing
• 37:37
  structurally
• 37:37
  wrong
• 37:38
  with
• 37:38
  that
• 37:38
  wall
• 37:38
  at
• 37:38
  all.
• 37:39
  Engineer
• 37:40
  probably
• 37:40
  could
• 37:40
  have
• 37:40
  looked
• 37:40
  at
• 37:40
  it,
• 37:40
  went,
• 37:41
  yeah,
• 37:41
  we're
• 37:41
  good.
• 37:42
  But
• 37:42
  the
• 37:42
  issues
• 37:43
  that
• 37:43
  we
• 37:43
  had
• 37:43
  there
• 37:44
  was
• 37:44
  that
• 37:45
  now
• 37:45
  the
• 37:45
  entire
• 37:46
  inside
• 37:47
  of
• 37:47
  the
• 37:47
  house
• 37:47
  really
• 37:48
  needed
• 37:48
  to
• 37:48
  be
• 37:48
  framed
• 37:49
  out
• 37:49
  because
• 37:49
  nothing
• 37:50
  was
• 37:50
  going
• 37:50
  to
• 37:50
  be
• 37:50
  square.
• 37:51
  And
• 37:51
  then
• 37:51
  when
• 37:51
  you
• 37:52
  looked
• 37:52
  at
• 37:52
  the
• 37:52
  outside
• 37:52
  of
• 37:52
  the
• 37:53
  house,
• 37:53
  it
• 37:53
  looked
• 37:53
  horrible.
• 37:54
  You
• 37:54
  could
• 37:54
  see
• 37:54
  that
• 37:54
  there's
• 37:54
  a
• 37:55
  big
• 37:55
  radius
• 37:55
  back
• 37:56
  to
• 37:56
  the
• 37:56
  wall.
• 37:57
  And
• 37:57
  so
• 37:57
  that
• 37:57
  was
• 37:57
  causing
• 37:58
  a
• 37:58
  ton
• 37:58
  of
• 37:58
  problems.
• 37:59
  So
• 38:00
  these
• 38:00
  are
• 38:00
  things
• 38:01
  that
• 38:01
  I
• 38:01
  want
• 38:01
  to
• 38:02
  see
• 38:02
  you
• 38:02
  get
• 38:02
  caught
• 38:02
  up
• 38:02
  with.
• 38:03
  And
• 38:03
  then
• 38:03
  as
• 38:03
  you
• 38:03
  go
• 38:04
  down
• 38:04
  the
• 38:04
  list
• 38:04
  here,
• 38:05
  what
• 38:05
  I'd
• 38:05
  like
• 38:06
  to
• 38:06
  see
• 38:07
  is
• 38:07
  you
• 38:07
  get
• 38:08
  that
• 38:08
  framing
• 38:08
  one
• 38:09
  done,
• 38:10
  and
• 38:10
  then
• 38:10
  that
• 38:11
  way
• 38:11
  they're
• 38:11
  checking
• 38:11
  right
• 38:12
  before
• 38:12
  drywall.
• 38:13
  I'd
• 38:13
  like
• 38:13
  to
• 38:13
  see
• 38:13
  that.
• 38:14
  I
• 38:14
  wouldn't
• 38:14
  mind
• 38:15
  seeing
• 38:15
  one
• 38:15
  in
• 38:15
  insulation
• 38:16
  because
• 38:16
  I
• 38:16
  want
• 38:16
  to
• 38:16
  make
• 38:16
  sure
• 38:16
  things
• 38:17
  are
• 38:17
  sealed
• 38:17
  up
• 38:17
  correctly.
• 38:18
  But
• 38:19
  really,
• 38:19
  the
• 38:19
  next
• 38:19
  thing
• 38:19
  is
• 38:19
  going
• 38:20
  to
• 38:20
  be
• 38:20
  towards
• 38:20
  final.
• 38:21
  When
• 38:21
  things
• 38:21
  are
• 38:21
  getting
• 38:22
  wrapped
• 38:22
  up,
• 38:23
  right
• 38:23
  when
• 38:23
  they're
• 38:24
  coming
• 38:24
  in,
• 38:24
  putting
• 38:24
  the
• 38:24
  trim
• 38:25
  on
• 38:25
  things,
• 38:25
  that's
• 38:25
  where
• 38:26
  I
• 38:26
  want
• 38:26
  to
• 38:26
  see
• 38:26
  somebody
• 38:27
  eyeball
• 38:27
  that.
• 38:27
  And
• 38:28
  I
• 38:28
  know
• 38:28
  this
• 38:28
  costs
• 38:28
  money,
• 38:28
  guys,
• 38:29
  but
• 38:29
  this
• 38:29
  is
• 38:29
  really.
• 38:30
  If
• 38:30
  you're
• 38:31
  having
• 38:31
  a
• 38:31
  house
• 38:31
  built,
• 38:31
  this
• 38:32
  is
• 38:32
  really
• 38:32
  where
• 38:32
  I
• 38:32
  want
• 38:32
  to
• 38:33
  see
• 38:33
  these
• 38:33
  benchmarks
• 38:34
  placed.
• 38:34
  And
• 38:35
  then
• 38:35
  when
• 38:35
  the
• 38:36
  project
• 38:36
  is
• 38:36
  done,
• 38:37
  is
• 38:37
  the
• 38:38
  time
• 38:38
  that
• 38:38
  you
• 38:38
  do
• 38:38
  this.
• 38:39
  Okay,
• 38:40
  before
• 38:40
  you
• 38:40
  go
• 38:40
  do
• 38:40
  a
• 38:41
  walkthrough,
• 38:41
  send
• 38:41
  them
• 38:41
  through
• 38:42
  and
• 38:42
  make
• 38:42
  sure
• 38:42
  that
• 38:42
  everything
• 38:43
  is
• 38:43
  done.
• 38:43
  And
• 38:43
  they're
• 38:43
  going
• 38:44
  to
• 38:44
  be
• 38:44
  there
• 38:44
  for
• 38:44
  a
• 38:44
  number
• 38:44
  of
• 38:44
  hours.
• 38:45
  They're
• 38:45
  going
• 38:45
  to
• 38:45
  check
• 38:46
  to
• 38:46
  make
• 38:46
  sure
• 38:46
  Every
• 38:46
  light
• 38:46
  switch
• 38:47
  works,
• 38:47
  every
• 38:47
  outlet
• 38:48
  is
• 38:48
  on
• 38:48
  that.
• 38:48
  The
• 38:48
  garage
• 38:49
  door
• 38:49
  openers
• 38:49
  where
• 38:50
  everything
• 38:50
  is
• 38:50
  done.
• 38:51
  And
• 38:52
  they're
• 38:52
  going
• 38:52
  to
• 38:52
  go
• 38:52
  through
• 38:52
  and
• 38:53
  take
• 38:53
  a
• 38:53
  look
• 38:53
  at
• 38:53
  the
• 38:53
  walls
• 38:53
  and
• 38:53
  they're
• 38:54
  going
• 38:54
  to
• 38:54
  go
• 38:54
  around
• 38:54
  and
• 38:55
  hit
• 38:55
  the
• 38:56
  blue
• 38:56
  tape.
• 38:58
  Anytime
• 38:58
  there's
• 38:58
  damage,
• 38:59
  they're
• 38:59
  going
• 38:59
  to
• 38:59
  go
• 38:59
  knock
• 38:59
  that
• 38:59
  out.
• 39:00
  And
• 39:00
  what's
• 39:00
  cool
• 39:00
  with
• 39:00
  this
• 39:01
  is
• 39:01
  that
• 39:01
  they're
• 39:01
  doing
• 39:01
  this
• 39:02
  before
• 39:02
  you
• 39:02
  even
• 39:02
  get
• 39:03
  a
• 39:03
  chance
• 39:03
  to
• 39:03
  walk
• 39:03
  through
• 39:03
  it.
• 39:05
  That
• 39:05
  way
• 39:05
  they
• 39:05
  can
• 39:06
  eyeball
• 39:06
  it,
• 39:06
  then
• 39:07
  the
• 39:07
  builder
• 39:07
  has
• 39:07
  a
• 39:08
  chance
• 39:08
  to
• 39:08
  go
• 39:08
  look
• 39:08
  at
• 39:08
  it,
• 39:09
  they
• 39:09
  can
• 39:09
  re
• 39:10
  inspect
• 39:10
  it
• 39:11
  and
• 39:11
  then
• 39:11
  you
• 39:11
  come
• 39:12
  out
• 39:12
  and
• 39:12
  take
• 39:12
  a
• 39:12
  look
• 39:12
  at
• 39:13
  it
• 39:13
  that
• 39:14
  way.
• 39:15
  There's
• 39:15
  some
• 39:15
  accountability
• 39:16
  there.
• 39:17
  Now
• 39:17
  just
• 39:17
  as
• 39:18
  an
• 39:18
  important
• 39:18
  step
• 39:19
  of
• 39:19
  this
• 39:20
  is
• 39:20
  really
• 39:21
  as
• 39:21
  you
• 39:21
  get
• 39:21
  this
• 39:22
  done,
• 39:23
  what
• 39:23
  I
• 39:23
  want
• 39:24
  to
• 39:24
  do
• 39:24
  is
• 39:24
  make
• 39:24
  sure
• 39:25
  that
• 39:25
  they
• 39:25
  do
• 39:25
  an
• 39:26
  inspection
• 39:26
  again
• 39:27
  at,
• 39:27
  at
• 39:28
  the
• 39:28
  right
• 39:28
  before
• 39:29
  the
• 39:29
  end
• 39:29
  of
• 39:29
  the
• 39:29
  warranty
• 39:30
  period.
• 39:30
  So
• 39:30
  let's
• 39:31
  say
• 39:31
  that
• 39:31
  your
• 39:31
  state
• 39:32
  that
• 39:32
  you're
• 39:32
  in,
• 39:32
  the
• 39:33
  builder
• 39:34
  offers
• 39:34
  a
• 39:34
  one
• 39:35
  year
• 39:35
  warranty
• 39:35
  and
• 39:36
  that's
• 39:36
  what
• 39:36
  code
• 39:36
  is
• 39:37
  great.
• 39:38
  That's
• 39:38
  what's
• 39:38
  cool
• 39:38
  about
• 39:39
  that.
• 39:40
  So
• 39:40
  all
• 39:41
  you
• 39:41
  do
• 39:42
  is
• 39:42
  you
• 39:42
  go
• 39:42
  in
• 39:42
  there
• 39:42
  and
• 39:43
  at
• 39:43
  11
• 39:43
  months
• 39:43
  to
• 39:44
  12,
• 39:44
  you
• 39:44
  go
• 39:44
  ahead
• 39:44
  and
• 39:45
  go
• 39:45
  and
• 39:45
  have
• 39:46
  that
• 39:46
  inspection
• 39:46
  done.
• 39:47
  So
• 39:47
  if
• 39:47
  there's
• 39:48
  anything
• 39:48
  on
• 39:48
  the
• 39:49
  warranty
• 39:49
  period
• 39:49
  or
• 39:50
  you
• 39:50
  can
• 39:50
  get
• 39:50
  that
• 39:50
  caught.
• 39:51
  You
• 39:51
  would
• 39:52
  not
• 39:52
  believe
• 39:53
  the
• 39:53
  things
• 39:53
  that
• 39:54
  I
• 39:54
  have
• 39:54
  seen
• 39:54
  caught
• 39:55
  at
• 39:55
  this
• 39:55
  final
• 39:56
  walkthrough.
• 39:57
  I
• 39:57
  have
• 39:57
  seen
• 39:58
  where
• 39:58
  it
• 39:59
  framing
• 39:59
  it
• 39:59
  was
• 39:59
  great.
• 40:00
  But
• 40:00
  when
• 40:00
  they
• 40:00
  loaded
• 40:01
  too
• 40:01
  many
• 40:01
  shingles
• 40:02
  on
• 40:02
  the
• 40:02
  roof,
• 40:02
  they
• 40:02
  broke
• 40:03
  a
• 40:03
  truss
• 40:03
  where
• 40:03
  there
• 40:03
  was
• 40:03
  a
• 40:04
  weak
• 40:04
  point
• 40:04
  in
• 40:04
  a
• 40:04
  truss
• 40:05
  and
• 40:05
  they
• 40:05
  broke
• 40:05
  a
• 40:05
  truss.
• 40:06
  I
• 40:06
  have
• 40:07
  seen
• 40:08
  where
• 40:08
  the
• 40:08
  H
• 40:08
  vac
• 40:09
  system
• 40:09
  is
• 40:10
  jam
• 40:11
  packed
• 40:11
  full
• 40:11
  of
• 40:11
  construction
• 40:12
  debris.
• 40:13
  I
• 40:13
  have
• 40:14
  seen
• 40:14
  crawl
• 40:14
  spaces
• 40:15
  with
• 40:16
  trash
• 40:16
  and
• 40:16
  all
• 40:17
  this
• 40:17
  other
• 40:17
  stuff.
• 40:18
  These
• 40:18
  are
• 40:18
  all
• 40:18
  those
• 40:18
  things
• 40:19
  that
• 40:19
  I
• 40:19
  want
• 40:19
  them
• 40:19
  to
• 40:19
  take
• 40:20
  care
• 40:20
  of
• 40:20
  that
• 40:20
  you
• 40:20
  don't
• 40:21
  have
• 40:21
  to
• 40:21
  worry
• 40:21
  about
• 40:21
  it.
• 40:22
  And
• 40:23
  that's
• 40:24
  the
• 40:24
  thing
• 40:24
  there.
• 40:24
  So
• 40:24
  make
• 40:25
  sure
• 40:25
  that
• 40:25
  and
• 40:25
  make
• 40:26
  sure
• 40:26
  that
• 40:26
  your
• 40:27
  inspector
• 40:28
  doesn't
• 40:29
  have
• 40:29
  a
• 40:30
  relationship
• 40:32
  with
• 40:32
  the
• 40:32
  builder.
• 40:33
  I
• 40:34
  don't
• 40:34
  want
• 40:34
  to
• 40:34
  see
• 40:34
  any
• 40:34
  conflicts
• 40:35
  of
• 40:35
  interest
• 40:35
  here.
• 40:35
  I
• 40:36
  don't
• 40:36
  want
• 40:36
  your
• 40:36
  builder
• 40:36
  to
• 40:36
  go,
• 40:36
  oh,
• 40:37
  the
• 40:37
  guy
• 40:37
  that
• 40:37
  usually
• 40:37
  inspects
• 40:38
  our
• 40:38
  houses
• 40:38
  is
• 40:39
  this.
• 40:40
  If
• 40:40
  they're
• 40:40
  working
• 40:40
  together,
• 40:41
  that's
• 40:41
  the
• 40:41
  last
• 40:42
  thing
• 40:42
  you
• 40:42
  want.
• 40:42
  You
• 40:42
  want
• 40:43
  somebody
• 40:43
  that's
• 40:43
  going
• 40:43
  after
• 40:44
  you,
• 40:44
  your
• 40:44
  best
• 40:44
  interests.
• 40:46
  So
• 40:46
  look
• 40:46
  for
• 40:47
  somebody
• 40:47
  that
• 40:47
  has
• 40:48
  building
• 40:48
  knowledge,
• 40:49
  like
• 40:49
  maybe
• 40:49
  they
• 40:49
  were
• 40:49
  a
• 40:49
  builder
• 40:50
  themselves
• 40:50
  and
• 40:50
  decided
• 40:51
  to
• 40:51
  get
• 40:51
  into
• 40:51
  this.
• 40:52
  Check
• 40:52
  their
• 40:52
  certifications,
• 40:54
  check
• 40:54
  what
• 40:54
  their
• 40:54
  insurance
• 40:55
  is,
• 40:56
  check
• 40:57
  their
• 40:57
  online
• 40:57
  reviews.
• 40:58
  And
• 40:58
  I
• 40:58
  tell
• 40:59
  you
• 40:59
  what,
• 40:59
  online
• 41:00
  reviews
• 41:00
  can
• 41:01
  be
• 41:01
  tough.
• 41:02
  Take
• 41:02
  a
• 41:03
  look
• 41:03
  at
• 41:03
  them
• 41:03
  anyway,
• 41:03
  but
• 41:04
  keep
• 41:04
  it
• 41:04
  with
• 41:04
  a
• 41:04
  grain
• 41:04
  of
• 41:05
  salt.
• 41:06
  Traditionally
• 41:06
  with
• 41:07
  online
• 41:07
  reviews,
• 41:07
  the
• 41:07
  people
• 41:08
  that
• 41:08
  had
• 41:08
  a
• 41:08
  wonderful
• 41:08
  experience
• 41:09
  and
• 41:09
  this
• 41:09
  guy
• 41:10
  if
• 41:10
  they
• 41:10
  saved
• 41:10
  them
• 41:11
  thousands
• 41:11
  of
• 41:11
  dollars,
• 41:12
  most
• 41:12
  likely
• 41:13
  they're
• 41:13
  not
• 41:13
  jumping
• 41:13
  on
• 41:14
  Google
• 41:14
  or
• 41:14
  whatever
• 41:15
  to
• 41:15
  do
• 41:17
  to
• 41:17
  give
• 41:17
  them
• 41:18
  praises.
• 41:19
  But
• 41:19
  it's
• 41:19
  the
• 41:19
  people
• 41:19
  that
• 41:20
  they
• 41:20
  missed
• 41:20
  will
• 41:20
  come
• 41:21
  on
• 41:21
  there
• 41:21
  and
• 41:21
  make
• 41:22
  the
• 41:22
  loudest
• 41:23
  noise.
• 41:24
  So
• 41:25
  you
• 41:25
  want
• 41:25
  to
• 41:25
  make
• 41:25
  sure
• 41:25
  if
• 41:25
  they've
• 41:26
  got
• 41:26
  a
• 41:26
  couple
• 41:26
  bad
• 41:26
  reviews,
• 41:27
  that
• 41:27
  happens.
• 41:27
  Inspectors
• 41:28
  are
• 41:28
  not
• 41:28
  going
• 41:29
  to
• 41:29
  be
• 41:29
  perfect
• 41:29
  and
• 41:29
  nor
• 41:29
  should
• 41:30
  you
• 41:30
  expect
• 41:30
  them
• 41:30
  to
• 41:30
  be
• 41:31
  perfect,
• 41:31
  but
• 41:32
  they
• 41:32
  should
• 41:32
  be
• 41:32
  able
• 41:32
  to
• 41:32
  catch
• 41:33
  obvious
• 41:33
  stuff
• 41:34
  out
• 41:34
  there
• 41:35
  so
• 41:35
  the
• 41:35
  more
• 41:35
  you
• 41:35
  can
• 41:35
  find
• 41:36
  out
• 41:36
  about
• 41:36
  them.
• 41:36
  And
• 41:37
  their
• 41:37
  qualifications
• 41:38
  are
• 41:38
  great.
• 41:39
  And
• 41:39
  it
• 41:39
  depends
• 41:40
  on
• 41:40
  what
• 41:40
  state
• 41:40
  you're
• 41:40
  in.
• 41:41
  There
• 41:42
  are
• 41:42
  a
• 41:42
  lot
• 41:42
  of
• 41:42
  great
• 41:42
  states
• 41:43
  with
• 41:43
  great
• 41:43
  programs
• 41:44
  that
• 41:45
  are
• 41:45
  there
• 41:45
  to
• 41:45
  protect
• 41:46
  the
• 41:46
  homeowner.
• 41:47
  For
• 41:48
  instance,
• 41:48
  in
• 41:48
  my
• 41:48
  state,
• 41:49
  Oregon,
• 41:50
  the
• 41:50
  Oregon
• 41:50
  Construction
• 41:51
  Contractor
• 41:51
  Board
• 41:52
  regulates
• 41:52
  home
• 41:53
  inspections
• 41:53
  in
• 41:53
  the
• 41:54
  state.
• 41:55
  So
• 41:55
  you
• 41:55
  have
• 41:55
  to
• 41:55
  complete
• 41:56
  the
• 41:56
  state's
• 41:56
  qualifying
• 41:57
  points
• 41:57
  and
• 41:57
  documentations
• 41:58
  form,
• 41:58
  complete
• 41:59
  an
• 41:59
  application,
• 42:00
  pay
• 42:00
  150
• 42:00
  bucks
• 42:01
  for
• 42:01
  certification
• 42:01
  and
• 42:02
  renewals
• 42:02
  every
• 42:03
  two
• 42:03
  years,
• 42:03
  and
• 42:04
  then
• 42:04
  you
• 42:04
  have
• 42:04
  to
• 42:04
  pass
• 42:05
  the
• 42:05
  NHIE
• 42:06
  exam.
• 42:07
  And
• 42:07
  that's
• 42:07
  what
• 42:07
  you
• 42:07
  have
• 42:07
  to
• 42:08
  do.
• 42:08
  Pennsylvania
• 42:10
  does
• 42:10
  not
• 42:11
  license
• 42:11
  its
• 42:11
  home
• 42:11
  inspectors.
• 42:13
  And
• 42:13
  that's
• 42:13
  where
• 42:14
  you
• 42:14
  start
• 42:14
  to
• 42:14
  look
• 42:14
  at
• 42:15
  stuff.
• 42:16
  So
• 42:17
  here's
• 42:18
  where,
• 42:18
  like
• 42:18
  South
• 42:19
  Carolina,
• 42:19
  they
• 42:20
  have.
• 42:20
  The
• 42:20
  South
• 42:21
  Carolina
• 42:21
  Residential
• 42:22
  Builders
• 42:22
  Commission
• 42:22
  does.
• 42:23
  And
• 42:23
  so
• 42:24
  these
• 42:24
  are
• 42:24
  things
• 42:24
  here
• 42:25
  the
• 42:25
  South
• 42:26
  Dakota
• 42:26
  Real
• 42:26
  Estate
• 42:27
  Commission
• 42:27
  oversees.
• 42:28
  So
• 42:28
  you
• 42:28
  have
• 42:28
  these
• 42:28
  different
• 42:29
  inspectors
• 42:30
  out
• 42:30
  there.
• 42:31
  And
• 42:31
  there's
• 42:32
  a
• 42:32
  lot
• 42:32
  of
• 42:32
  states
• 42:32
  out
• 42:33
  there.
• 42:33
  Utah
• 42:34
  does
• 42:34
  not
• 42:34
  regulate
• 42:35
  it,
• 42:35
  another
• 42:36
  great
• 42:36
  example
• 42:36
  there.
• 42:37
  So
• 42:37
  really
• 42:38
  take
• 42:38
  your
• 42:38
  time,
• 42:39
  understand
• 42:41
  what's
• 42:41
  going
• 42:41
  on
• 42:41
  in
• 42:42
  your
• 42:42
  state,
• 42:42
  what's
• 42:43
  happening.
• 42:43
  And
• 42:44
  different
• 42:44
  states
• 42:45
  have
• 42:45
  different
• 42:45
  rules.
• 42:47
  And
• 42:47
  this
• 42:48
  is
• 42:48
  really
• 42:48
  interesting.
• 42:49
  I
• 42:49
  want
• 42:49
  to.
• 42:49
  Here's
• 42:49
  what
• 42:49
  I
• 42:49
  like.
• 42:50
  Alabama,
• 42:50
  for
• 42:51
  instance,
• 42:51
  good
• 42:52
  job,
• 42:52
  guys.
• 42:52
  And
• 42:53
  no
• 42:53
  program
• 42:53
  is
• 42:54
  perfect,
• 42:55
  but
• 42:55
  you
• 42:55
  have
• 42:55
  to
• 42:55
  file
• 42:56
  your
• 42:56
  license
• 42:56
  examination.
• 42:58
  You
• 42:58
  go
• 42:58
  in
• 42:58
  and
• 42:59
  do
• 42:59
  that.
• 43:00
  You
• 43:00
  have
• 43:00
  to
• 43:00
  do
• 43:00
  your
• 43:00
  examination
• 43:01
  board,
• 43:02
  go
• 43:02
  through
• 43:02
  all
• 43:02
  this
• 43:02
  stuff.
• 43:03
  I
• 43:03
  love
• 43:03
  this.
• 43:04
  Provide
• 43:04
  proof
• 43:04
  of
• 43:05
  insurance
• 43:05
  and
• 43:05
  includes
• 43:05
  a
• 43:06
  $250,000
• 43:07
  for
• 43:07
  errors
• 43:08
  and
• 43:08
  emissions
• 43:08
  and
• 43:08
  proof
• 43:08
  of
• 43:09
  liability
• 43:09
  insurance
• 43:09
  in
• 43:10
  the
• 43:10
  amount
• 43:10
  of
• 43:10
  $20,000
• 43:11
  for
• 43:12
  injury
• 43:12
  and
• 43:12
  damages
• 43:13
  to
• 43:14
  property.
• 43:15
  Keeps
• 43:16
  going
• 43:16
  on.
• 43:16
  But
• 43:17
  I
• 43:17
  love
• 43:18
  that
• 43:18
  these
• 43:18
  guys.
• 43:19
  Alabama,
• 43:20
  hats
• 43:20
  off.
• 43:21
  Well
• 43:21
  done.
• 43:22
  So
• 43:22
  there's
• 43:23
  a
• 43:23
  lot
• 43:23
  of
• 43:23
  states
• 43:23
  out
• 43:24
  there
• 43:24
  that
• 43:24
  we
• 43:24
  needed
• 43:24
  to
• 43:24
  be
• 43:25
  doing
• 43:25
  more
• 43:25
  to
• 43:25
  make
• 43:26
  sure
• 43:26
  that
• 43:26
  we're
• 43:26
  protecting
• 43:27
  the
• 43:27
  homeowners
• 43:27
  out
• 43:27
  there.
• 43:29
  And
• 43:29
  there's
• 43:29
  a
• 43:29
  lot
• 43:29
  of
• 43:29
  states
• 43:30
  that
• 43:30
  do.
• 43:30
  There's
• 43:30
  a
• 43:30
  lot
• 43:31
  of
• 43:31
  states
• 43:31
  that
• 43:31
  don't.
• 43:31
  Take
• 43:32
  your
• 43:32
  time,
• 43:32
  understand
• 43:33
  what's
• 43:33
  going
• 43:33
  on
• 43:33
  in
• 43:34
  your
• 43:34
  area
• 43:35
  because
• 43:35
  this
• 43:36
  is
• 43:36
  a
• 43:36
  really
• 43:36
  important
• 43:37
  part.
• 43:38
  Georgia,
• 43:39
  Hawaii,
• 43:40
  Idaho,
• 43:41
  all
• 43:42
  do
• 43:42
  not
• 43:42
  have
• 43:43
  that.
• 43:44
  So
• 43:44
  I
• 43:45
  would
• 43:45
  make
• 43:45
  sure
• 43:45
  you
• 43:46
  know
• 43:46
  that
• 43:46
  you
• 43:46
  find
• 43:47
  people
• 43:47
  that
• 43:47
  are
• 43:47
  good.
• 43:48
  Take
• 43:48
  your
• 43:48
  time,
• 43:49
  protect
• 43:49
  yourself,
• 43:50
  find
• 43:50
  the
• 43:51
  right
• 43:51
  inspector
• 43:52
  and
• 43:52
  save
• 43:52
  yourself
• 43:53
  some
• 43:53
  money
• 43:53
  in
• 43:53
  the
• 43:53
  long
• 43:53
  run.
• 43:54
  All
• 43:54
  right,
• 43:54
  guys,
• 43:54
  that's
• 43:55
  it.
• 43:55
